Gorgeous - guaranteed to make my day lighter and get me to float and hum around - beach, samba and good vibes.

Nice listen

Really fun album to put on in the background and just feel the vibes.

A good album, I liked all of the songs but The Face I Love and The Parade (A Banda) the most.

Es una mezcla entre relajante y animado

Den lækre samba-jazz, clean vokal, og ren afslapning

Cute little Bossa-nova record that made my heart happy with the cover of “You didn’t have to be so nice”. Not complicated and not trying to break any boundaries, just a good listen

solo respeto a brasil por el fuchibol y el bossanova

Me gusta la música brasileña qué puedo decir

A great listen. There are slight clues to this being recorded live, and when they happen, it makes me realize how great the musicians are. I do wish there was a little more versatility to her voice, but I don’t think this album is to listen to while wearing headphones. It’s a great background music album!

It's hard to get wrong with bossa nova, especially with such a vibe.

J'adore la plage ainsi que la samba, c'est donc tout logiquement que j'ai beaucoup apprécié cet album

la françoise hardy du brésil

Too slow

Light and fun

This is some lovely samba music. This reminds me a lot of all the things I love about Saudade by Thievery Corporation (which has a lot of samba inspiration from Astrud clearly). Great for date night or just for some chill background noise.

A sweet and optimistic lil' album.

Album 286 of 1001 Astrud Gilberto - Beach Samba Rating : 4 / 5 Favorite Tracks : You Didn't Have to Be So Nice / Parade I like me some Bossa nova. Really wanted to give it a 5 but have to keep my senses. Just love the sound. Makes me want to dance. Small flashbacks of 60s & 70s game shows, for some reason. Love her voice.

Really fun and just a nice vibe. Didn’t like Parade but otherwise v good stuff

Música boa, música top. 4

I've always had a crush on Astrud. I love Samba too. This isn't the greatest album ever but in the genre this is one of the best. It's so smooth and effortless.

Ooooh ooooui j’aime! Ça réchauffe le temps de merde qui tombe sur nous!

Very pleasant, but not so varied. Plus points for making me discover the origin of "la banda" by Mina

Spotify described her as "honey-toned" and "lamb-like," which is pretty much on the nose. She's not going to belt out "Crazy On You" by Heart. The album felt like a soundtrack to a lost 60s movie. The whole thing was nice, although the kid duet at the end... I don't know if I would listen to that every single time. Still, nice change of pace and I'm always up for samba-esque stuff. Fun stuff.

chilled out, good vibes, sunny days!

Now this is some easy listening. It may be requisite that I'd be in the right mood to listen to this whole album, but when that happens man it hits the spot. Astrud is not someone that I'm familiar with, but there's no question that I'm a fan of this kind of music. Nothing goes above and beyond here, but at the same time I can't think of any real complaints. Highlight: Beach Samba Surprise Hit: Misty Roses

Beautiful vocals, lyrics in various languages (including English), the absolute sound of a summer's day - but served to me on a cold Scottish November night! A wonderful collection of songs, with a mildly irritating child turning up for a cameo half way through.

Helkkarin hyvää musaa! En oo varma onko just tää levy jotenkin Giberton tuotannon tärkein, mutta aivan upeeta matskuu. Carola on ottanut opikseen. 4/5

Apparently some critics said it was too “pop”. As someone not from Brazil it’s the right amount of pop for me. This showcases her voice beautifully.

Beach Samba feels like a mix of samba and blues, Astrud's voice es one of the most soothing Brazilian voices there is. A relaxing and beautiful album to enjoy. It reminds me of Copacabana!

Very pleased with this one. Nice tunes and some interesting melodies that didn’t always resolve the way I anticipated they would. A few of the songs were so light and airy there was barely anything there but most were pretty terrific

Really liked this album, the sambas were a great relaxing listen.

Good beach or summer vacation soundtrack

Big lover of bossa nova and samba, especially from this era. I thought this was a nice sweet album, though I do wish it was in Portuguese. 8/10.

Solid samba

Song with child made me tear up

Really nice voice, would listen to some of those songs again

Samba pra gringo ouvir

This was pretty chill and I really enjoyed it. Her voice is nice and soothing. Pretty close to a five, but just not quite there for me. My favorite song was My Foolish Heart.

Nice to have a femal artist finally. Love anything by the Gilberto family

Easy listening. I'm not sure it was super exciting

exceptional album, very plesant, nice overall, not 5 stars because I wasn't completely hooked, like didn't capture my attention

Didn't realize how deep the Astrud rabbit hole went but this album is incredible

Lovely tunes

I really enjoyed this one. She has a wonderful voice and the music was captivating! Very cool album!

It’s not “Girl from Ipanema”, but the vibe is the same and it’s just got that great “island cool” samba rhythm that makes for a nice listening experience. May not listen to it again because it’s an artist I don’t really know, but it deserved a good ranking.

Very, very relaxing. Soothing voice and calm samba beats. I was afraid it will get monotone, but it didn't.

Second Brazilian album in a week. Almost as good as Africa, Brasil. Very enjoyable and pleasant. Perfect morning music. The kids loved to dance to it as well. I like the classic romanticism of the lyrics. Flowers, birds and love. A warm breeze of naïveté and positivity. A nice break from the male rock lyrics about wanting to love a woman that have dominated this project so far. Best tracks: Stay, The Face I love, beach samba, You didn’t have to be so nice, Nao Bate O Corocao

Smooooooth. Unfortunate name.

Enjoyed

Bossa Nova. Jazz.

Amazing voice and talent

I always like some Bossa Nova! I appreciate being introduced to new artists like this

Astrud Gilberto makes me feel both sick and aroused at the same time. It's a rare feat. It reminds me of when I used to come home late from work, tired and soaked through after being covered head to toe with the jizz of the entire Chelsea first team and backroom staff. Man, it was a hell of a day, but boy did it make me tired and took its toll on my skin. Wouldn't change it for the world though.

A good album to put on the background if you just want to relax

A tasty little album full of tasty little bops, scrumptious (though it does leave me wishing for a bit more).

“Treasuring pop brevity, arrangement and open-heartedness I enjoy the shit out of this. It’s not a Motown greatest hits collection (but what else is?). ‘You Didn’t Have to Be So Nice’’s infant duet beats out Beyoncé and Shakira’s ones from the early 2010s no contest.“

Who doesn't love some Brazilian jazz?

Pleasant

A joyful, jovial, and relaxing album to listen to and it's one that I quite enjoy. Gilberto's voice is incredibly soft and it really fits well with the Brazillian-jazzy hybrid instrumentals, as well as the carefree, innocent lyrics that invoke tranquility and serenity.

Love love love

Jako lijepo i opuštajuće. Pusiti cu si ponovo

Really nice, peaceful and relaxing. Made for good cooking music! I don't know if I could see myself listening to this normally in many other scenarios, but it was certainly a nice one. I also thought Astrud's duet with her son Marcello in "You Didn't Have To Be So Nice" was really cute. Favourite: "It's A Lovely Day Today"

br tru

"You Didn't Have to Be So Nice" is overwhelmingly, heartwarmingly sweet and sincere. "Stay", "A Banda Parade", and "Não Bate O Coroção" were other standout tracks. A few (imo) fillers (Misty Roses, The Face I Love), but they're short so don't detract much. Not quite 5 stars but it's enjoyable and I'll likely listen again, so solid 4/5.

Wonderful stuff! That breezy, sensual Brazil sound.

Leuk wegdromen, meestal met bossa nova. Blijkbaar vind ik dat wel nog een leuk genre

Buen oldie bossa

I'm far from an expert on the genre, but this really feels like almost everything I would want from a bossa nova record. She has a very full voice and this album does a good job letting it take center stage. The only thing holding it back for me is that some of the weaker tracks can feel really disengaging, although most of the album is pretty consistent.

Bossa nova. Canta muy bien. Un 4.

Happy fluffy lovey gooey joyful stuff. Upvoting a star because I went and listened to Girl From Ipanema again.

Fukk yeah!!

Almost as nice as going to the beach in person!

Classic Gilbertoes samba

Canny. Some questionable choices - the circus thing was pretty bleak, but otherwise an enjoyable enough album.

I love me some bossa nova. Astrud has such a wonderful voice.

Pleasant

What a beach samba this was. Tanning outside this really is a sweet lil cool smooth sweat upbeat album to lightly relax to

What's not to like? Passed this one up on vinyl awhile back and now I regret it.

Astrud sait pertinemment qu'elle raconte n'importe quoi et se réjouit d'imaginer ses auditeurs européens claquer des doigts sur le rythme de ses mélodieux baragouinages. Bien joué Astrud.

Fun! Will listen again. Favorited one track. [insert articulate reasons why]

Chill, soft, and relaxing. Not incredible, but a nice 'sit on the beach with a beer' sort of sound.

Wahnsinnig abwechslungsreiches Album ohne vom Stil abzuweichen. Tolle Stimme. Tolle Mood. Mochte nur das Lied mit dem Kind nicht. Das erste Album, das mich überzeugt hat. Sims vibes

Some fun jazzy samba vibes. Pretty happy and good as a background for life.

Pleasant.

Hard to decide between 3 and 4 stars - I liked the atmosphere but it was ruined by a couple of tracks.

July 27, 2021 This lowkey sounds like elevator music but I'm into it??? Kind of a great listen for July.

Fantastic piece of late 60's "pop" jazz.

Rating: 8/10 Best songs: Stay, Parade, Oba, oba, Call me

Really nice album, super chill and the singer is great

Chill and good vibes

That's some 60s music.

So eine Art Lounge Musik aber gut

I am enjoying this album, though it is slower than what I typically listen to. I got a strong Christmas music vibes while listening to some songs. I quite enjoyed the album actually.

Good shit

Excelente voz que combina perfecto con el bossa-nova

Delightful

Perfect, sunshine and cocktail invoking easy listening.

Loved this!

pleasant listen and musically interesting if you listen closely, i'm not crazy about these songs though, especially the ones that arent bossa nova or samba. like why did they put a march on here. 4-

Great energy

Very chilly vibes, bossanova kind of

Muy bonito, con un ambiente tranquilo, se antoja una caipirinha a orillas del mar (?). Pienso que a Astrud Gilberto la conocía inconscientemente y también creo que tiene mucho sentido para mí que sea música sesentera. Me gustaron sobre todo "The Face I Love", "Canoeiro" y "My Foolish Love". Creo que otra de las pruebas de la despreocupación que se siente con este disco son los sonidos infantiles que se cuelan, como la canción que suena a feria (desfile, justo) y esa pequeña conversación con una niña. 8/10

This is way too short to be an album. 27 minutes? Really? It's nice, and I would definitely listen at a beach. But 27 minutes??

Incredibly pleasant to listen to

Lovely summer vibes from Brazil. Good mood samba album. Not the most ecstatic one but still spent an enjoyable moment listening to this short album.

Couple songs were a little weird. Classic bossa nova tho

A delightful slice of sunshine that took me right out of a damp west coast of Scotland summers day.

Perfectly good background music for a scene at a beach cabana.

Relaxing, very aptly named. Heavy bossa nova vibes. Ms. Gilberto's voice is very relaxed and relaxing, and I think I could throw this on while cooking or hanging out somewhere. It's very pleasant. Favorite tracks: "The Face I Love", "Misty Roses", "I Think of You"

Smooth and pleasant, if a tad boring. Samba and bossanova have never really done much for me. Kind of sounds like grocery store muzak.

7/6/26. Nice samba and relaxing vibe, Astrid’s vocals are on point in this. Pretty short album, but works since many of the songs are similar.

A little disappointed by this. Generally I love the vibe, but didn't feel there were any great tracks, and some of them like You Didn't Have to Be So Nice were pretty corny. 2.9/5

This album is exactly what the label says! Light and breeze, like a warm sunny day. It sounds like something you'd hear on an episode of Mad Man. It's cool, and timeless.

I found it so bad it was a novelty. Like listening to elevator music after one caipirinha too many. "Would you like a purple sea or a sky with candy stripes, or a watermelon tree ... I can get those things for you". Wait, what?

*Beach Somba* Every time I hear Bossa Nova music, i get taken back to 1965. The sights the smell, the memories come back vividly, I wasn't even born til four years later. I can't say I don't enjoy this music . In fact I'd like it quite a bit, especially the tone of her voice. It just reminds me of nostalgia. It reminds me of the days of I Dream of Jeannie. I guess it really only takes me so far, but I like it. One good thing about it is that the album is actually less than 30 minutes so I didn't get bored by it. But my favorite song from the project "Tu Mi Delirio", which was a bonus track, it's less bossy and more Jazzy. (6.9) ★★★

Her voice is great, but the song selection is lacking. 3 stars

very chill, good little album to have in the background!

Justement j'aime bossa.

Nice vibe Will I listen to again: 30%

Fun. So fun. Then - like a dream - the fun ends. Who's to say if it was even real.

I accidentally listened to Bebel Gilberto instead of this first, because I'm an incompetent. That was a shame because I rather enjoyed the blending of bossa nova and electronica, and when I went back to this it sounded a bit flat by comparison. Still a pleasant record to have playing in the background and I still have the younger Gilberto to look forward to in the future.

It was good, nice vibe. Probably wouldn’t seek it out.

It was fun, but it didn't really capture me like some of the other world music on the list.

It’s interesting. At this point - nearly 700 albums for me - these just kind of feel like, “hey, here’s an album for you to listen to.” Which is fine. I’ve stopped trying to figure out what the ultimate criteria for these might be. I don’t think a ton of thought has gone into the selection process. Which again is fine. So anyway. Enjoyed the album. 3.5/5

Astrud tiene mejores albumes 3

nice 3.5

Really relaxing

Listened Before? N Man... I bet if you like Samba this is one of your favorite albums (and artists). She's got the sound down, and the production is off the charts. To me, it was fine. Sounds like the 60s, looks like the 60s... I feel like I should be chillin' in an airport with shag carpet and ashtrays everywhere. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: The Face I Love

Relaxing Saturday morning with a cup of coffee. Enjoyed

There are some cool jazz parts, cool beach vibe parts and then some cheesy carnival parts. Astrud has a cool singing style, not overpowering just cool and on point. Overall I like the vibe of this album, could cut a couple tracks and it would have been a bit higher rated for me. Not going out to buy this but I will had a few songs to my beach playlist.

3 sterne

Not my normal listen so I don’t know exactly how to judge this but I did like it! Her voice was smooth with the guitar and flute, and I think there may have been an oboe in there at one point. The entire transcendent production placed me in a Costa Rica plaza drinking a cup of coffee and wearing a Panama hat while watching the dancers in the mid afternoon. My favorite musical track was Nao Bate o Corocoa, which made me want to get up from the coffee and dance in the streets with my hallucinations, though vocal favorite was her bouncy The Face I Love. Fun album.

Random thoughts: * This was pleasant enough and nice to have Astrud Gilberto on this list separate of the Getz/Gilberto "Girl From Impanema". * However, is this a must listen? Not really. 1001 bloat is real. * Banda/Parade was an interesting song. Also, the kid singing on "You Didn't Have to Be So Nice" was also ear catching. * The rest was Brazil/samba smooth. Nice but not necessary.

Pretty smooth, soft, samba. Nothing extraordinary, but it's pleasant enough.

Without reading any reviews here, I know there will be a lot of very dismissive reviews from people who can't be bothered with Samba & Bossa Nova music. That's fine, you do you. Bossa Nova scratches my brain just right, especially after a long busy day. There's nothing better for a pre-dinner cocktail hour on a Saturday evening, or to help transition from work to home mode. Especially if you can play it on a vintage turntable. Bossa Nova, and Astrud's voice in particular, overwhelm me with nostalgia for an era I missed by a generation or two. Astrud sang on the Getz/Gilberto version of "Girl from Ipanema" which, I would argue, made her the enduring voice of Bossa Nova music forever; if you need to explain the genre to someone with one song, I think you play THAT version of THAT song for them. Or you could play "Corcovado (Quiet Nights Of Quiet Stars)", also from Getz/Gilberto, and also sung by Astrud. Either way, hers is the voice they must hear to fully appreciate the genre. None of the songs here quite rise to that same level, but it's a lovely record made just as Bossa Nova was at peak popularity in America. If you enjoy the lightheartedness of "Parade (A Banda)" on this record, you should dig into Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass (who, sadly, aren't on this list). Worth finding an original vinyl copy. Also worth finding a dry Manhattan and an Eames chair.

A dated style for sure. This pales in comparison to the best of late-60s psychedelia and hard rock. But then, samba is pretty underrepresented on the list. And it's no worse or more internally repetitive than, say, reggae or 90s-electronic, both of which are heavily favoured over samba by Dimery. But man, albums like Beach Samba are still repetitive as heck. Why make an varied, sonically novel artistic statement when you can just release 44 minutes of (essentially) an extended song within a single genre? At times, it's a little hard to stay engaged. There are very few memorable melodies or hooks to speak of, no moments or developed themes (every song is 2-3 minutes, so no time is provided to allow a theme to develop/vary anyway). Though Stay is a decent opener, the fun really begins with the sophomore track, Misty Roses. Lovely jazzy, vibraphone-filled texture. The hook melody reminds me of something Ella Fitzgerald would've concocted (or, for that matter, covered). Canoeiro also stands out quickly for its oddly rushed, almost frantic flurry of drums and vocals. Honestly, I kind of love it. Though you start to notice around this point that the production (in all songs) is poor. Nao Bate O Corocao somewhat makes up for all previous sins with an excellent piano part. It's over after just 98 seconds. Why can't the whole album be piano jams? Preferably experimental ones? A man can dream. Parade (A Banda)... clearly listeners of Astrud Gilberto actively avoid relistening to this song, given its very low number of streams despite being only the 4th track (of 17) on the album. And it makes sense. The track contains nothing worth listening to, unless you're a fan of tubas, whistles, and 20th Century Fox-style drum intros. Later, You Didn't Have To Be So Nice... I guess having (what sounds like) a mother-child singalong is sweet enough – it certainly grabs your attention – but it also sounds kind of bad. At least pick a kid who can sing in tune. 3/5 Key tracks: Misty Roses, Canoeiro, Nao Bate O Corocao

175. nice

OK, not really my thing

I love Astrud voice so much. This is a good record. 3,7

Like her voice sm and that song with the kid was wholesome icl. High 3

Nice record. Flat, wooden vocals with an other-wordly accent, as was fashionable at the time. Um beijo.

One of those ones I always knew I was gonna get in the back of my mind. Did NOT expect it to be so early though. The big problem with this album is that it’s easy listening. When “Doopee Time” by Doopees did easy listening it was awesome because it had depth. It had influences that made it apparent that it wasn’t marketable and wasn’t meant to be listened to in an easy listening context. This is incredibly well written frankly, but it is completely straightforward in its genre, and that is a problem to me. Take “Misty Roses,” which is very pretty, but the instrumentation is annoying, plainly so. Or “Parade,” which uses marching band aesthetics to make a song, and I just don’t like it. Or the song she does with her kid, which just simply does not work in my opinion. There’s some bad, some good, but not enough stands out sadly. 6.4/10

This was smooth, easy listening all the way through. I had just listened to Bruno Mars’ new album for about the billionth time before putting this on, so his take on bolero and Latin jazz ended up being a pretty nice segue into this. The whole album has that same kind of relaxed, breezy feel, just a lot softer and more understated. I also thought it was sweet that she had her son sing with her on “You Didn’t Have to Be So Nice,” especially since I’m already a Lovin’ Spoonful fan. This isn’t something I’d rate super high, but it was an enjoyable listen

Love Astrud, but in spite of the title this isn’t her beachiest best. A bit orchestrated heavy and samba-literally, but still a solid outing.

That was a nice and relaxing one. Not much to note there other than I liked it and even though it's not phenomenal it hits the spot.

I love Astrud Gilberto's singing on Girl from Ipanema so I had somewhat high expectations of this, and honestly it was unfortunately less then I expected. I still love that kinda fragile singing Astrud brings to the songs here, but god this felt like the stereotype of Samba as background music. The lyrics were mostly floating between inane and bafflingly boring. This almost reminds me of the music of when Dick Debenedictis is told to score a lounge scene in an 70s tv show. it's never bad per say, but its entirely meant to melt into the background and not intrude on anything else. It feels like it was made for an era aware of the influence Samba had in America and, rather than trying to be its own cultural touchstone, was meant to appeal to American audiences as a result. The result of this is the most milquetoast samba album on the entire list. It also makes me worry that the reason the only Samba on here bares the Gilberto family name is due to them being percieved as bringing the music "over" to the anglosphere rather than the music standing on its own. Katie posts these to her bluesky so I do have a call to action for once: What other Samba albums should I be listening to to broaden my taste of the genre besides that from the Gilbertos? I really want to know because I've been loving this genre so far.

Decent listen

Well, what a pretty much completely random selection this is for one of the 1001 albums I must listen to before I die!! Gilberto's voice is lovely, and her performance on "The Girl from Ipanema" (NOT included on THIS album) is certainly one of the iconic musical moments of the 1960s. The songs here range from wistful to whimsical. But I wouldn't necessarily classify them as overly memorable. If you're trying to make sure you include something with that samba sound of the sixties, I guess this checks that box.

This sounds like the music that was played in a department store fragrance section to the women shopping there wearing their in season dresses and beehive hairdos. Somewhere in the sporting section a small black and white tv is playing a news story about riots.

A bit of an odd choice of album to showcase Astrud, whose airy bossa nova helped lead the wave of this extraordinarily popular movement in the 60’s for me her debut from a couple of years earlier is much more significant, followed by Look to this Rainbow in 1966. But Beach Samba is still representative of the sound, though La La some of the peppy arrangements of the debut, and the songs are simply not as good. Bossa Nova can divide a room, some “get” its existential sadness and mellow reflection, others hear elevator music and run screaming. I’m of the former, but do understand the latter. On this record, particularly. On the plus side, Stay and Canoiero and the title track capture some Bossa magic, whereas much of the rest of it is a bit, um, bland. Not her best and well worth going back to her self titled debut to understand why the music was so popular in its day.

No. 179 43 minutes of relaxing, well crafted bossa nova. I can’t imagine being mad about having to listen to this.

Naw, this was cool. Soothing, easy listening.

Nice chilled album, love the Bossa nova beat. One or two tracks that sound a bit “immature “ but overall a good summer vibe

I've nothing bad to say about this album really, in fact I rather quite liked it. However it's just so easy to listen to, it sort of blends into the background.

Soft Latin ish

Didn't mind this as background music to work to

I went in expecting to enjoy this as much as I have Joao Gilberto albums, which I have loved so far. This was also a nice collection of Bossa Nova, but was definitely more on the cheesy side (the march, the songs sung by children). The singing was nice though and the songs good enough.

Wanted to like this more than I did. But it was ok. Chill. Relaxing. 3

I’ve heard this before, but it’s been many years. She’s doing some of the bossanova she does so well, and some loungey stuff (good in fact) and a saccharine pop song (not so good in fact) and a sousa march (kinda ok in fact). It’s an extremely chill album for having a cocktail to.

A very chill, easy-going listening experience. Nothing particularly exciting about it, but it is nice overall.

Solid background working music, dead on three stars, don't know enough to know why it's here over similar albums.

It was fun

Inoffensive, I like Bossa Nova so this is a 3/5.

Overall I quite enjoyed this. A little eclectic and I’d probably have preferred something a little more based around bossa nova and samba throughout. Good to see a little Portuguese in here though. Enjoyable, but I’m unlikely to listen again.

This is nice. 3 stars. I would like to hear a detailed explanation as to why this needs to be on a list of albums you must listen to before you die. As stated above this is nice and that's about as far as it needs to go.

Listenable but not my thing.

I love love love Bossa nova and this album has great bones. But some of the accents turn more big band and swing at times. Which takes me out of it a bit. What appeals to me about Bossa nova and Astrud's lovely vocals is the low energy, light, acoustic guitar. And this album has too much horns and high energy segments that to me in a sense dull the Bossa and turn up the swing. Which is fine if thats your thing. But I like mine more muted and simple.

Nice album to chill to (not my genre btw, so 3 stars)

A delight to listen to but nothing remarkable like fluff.

That parade song was out of place and terrible. The rest was pretty chill though.

Soothing but kinda meh…

Just your standard 'world music' entry. Nice music, but not gonna hit the right spots no matter what

This was a fun album. It sounded more like a soundtrack than just a pure album, for some reason, but with a little bit of sunlight to accompany it it was delightful.

Sounds like a nice Saturday afternoon at a fancy wine bar with a view to the water.

This was a good short listen. A bit repetitive in spots but something I’d happily put on for a dinner party. 3/5

As much as I love bossa nova and Astrud Gilberto’s voice, this album feels bland. Like a tamed, Americanised version of the original. You feel like you know what she’s capable of and it’s not here. There are some gems still, Beach Samba, I think of you and Nao Bate o Corocao, these three raise the overall rating from a 2 to a 3-

Pensé que me iba a gustar más. Hay una canción donde canta con un niño (asumo que es su hijo) y es muy tierna.

Vibey. Good background music

Some weird stuff that doesn't really work but otherwise just inoffensive

Never heard of Astrid Gilberto Never heard Beach Samba Never heard of he singles No idea what to expect and was presently surprised. Her voice is looking mited in range, but it's got character. The parade song should have been chopped.

3.5 It’s the lady from “Girl from Ipanema,” and the whole album kinda has the vibe of that song. Does that sound good to you? If so, you’ll enjoy this. It’s very listenable, but a little shallow.

Astrud Gilberto's voice is beautiful and clear. I am surprised I have never heard of her. I enjoyed this album.

Beautiful but boring

I didn't know her. Gentle voice and nice music. A good album.

63/100. Definitely lives up to the title by giving off some major summer vibes. It’s a great record to have on in the background during a sunny day.

Idk if I’m a big bossa nova fan but it’s not bad.

#74/1001 🇧🇷 A lovely listen on a Spring Saturday morning with sunlighy streaming in through the windows. I'm aware of Gilberto's work but not this album. Now somebody pass me a Pina Colada. Best tracks: Stay, Misty Roses, Oba Oba.

I love Bossa Nova and I admit she was decisive in making th egenre known in the US and then the world through Jao and Stan Getz with little credits. Yet I don't feel anything for this album other than the the label easy listening. The feminist in me will save the note just of the carrer acknowledgment.

A recurring theme with the jazz/ jazz related albums on this list is they are all well executed, but not my thing. Swinging bossa nova sounds with a strong Space Age Bachelor Pad/ Don Draper party vibe that are perfectly fine. The Parade song is not good, and the Loving Spoonful cover was a choice.

Stay 3.3 Misty Roses 3.1 The Face I Love 3.4 A Banda (Parade) 3 Oba, Oba 3.3 Canoeiro 3.2 I Had the Craziest Dream 3.3 Bossa Na Praia (Beach Samba) 3.4 My Foolish Heart 3.1 Dia das Rosas (I Think of You) 3 You Didn't Have to Be So Nice 2.7 Não Bate O Coração 3 Score: 3.15

Not a genre I'm terribly interested in (or familiar with) but Big Ears is in a couple of weeks so I'm opening my mind! This was pleasant background music while working - and it was over in a flash! - but reading her Wikipedia page I was reminded that Astrud Gilberto sang "Girl from Ipanema." I think the album with that song on it (the Stan Getz album that is also included in the 1001 albums) is the only one I really needed to hear before I died. But this was fine.

Its ok

Lovely and smooth.

Her voice is very, very pleasant.

Pretty chill. She does have a voice like honey.

Vesela gospodja daa-dadadadada-daa

Astrud Gilberto's 'Beach Samba' is essentially a selection of easy-listening bossa nova tracks about roses, dreams, feelings and fanfare. It's inoffensive, straightforward and basic 60s pop music, and I have nothing more to say about it. It's fine.

good very um calm

This is exactly what this list is for. I didn't love this album, but it's something I would never have heard otherwise. Positive - her voice is super smooth and just pleasant to listen to. Most of the music is nice. Fair amount of variety. Negative - it was all a little safe, a little plain. Parade is dumb. You Didn't Have To Be So Nice is kinda cute once but I don't want to hear an untrained child sing. Overall, not in love with it, but it was kinda nice to listen to a couple times.

Nice but just that

An album called samba on the beach probably isn’t the best for a damp February morning, but here we are. And you know what? It’s okay. Light, airy. At times I could almost feel the sun on my face. Her voice is a gossamer thing fluttery thing and dances between the rhythms. A nice surprise

(63/100)

Back in time with these wonderful samba tunes. Time to remember on the good old days.

Bossa Nova a.k.a elevator music ! THe albums flows well and her voice too

a fine listen but nothing to write home about.

Smooth listening , a little boring.

A lovely Samba album from Astrud Gilberto, but an odd selection. This is a nice album, but she has several other albums from this same decade that are much higher regarded.

I appreciate whats going on here but its not really for me.

beautiful!

Nice cozy vibes.

01) Stay - 7,0 02) Misty Roses - 7,0 03) The Face I Love - 6,5 04) A Banda (Parade) - 6,5 05) Oba, Oba - 7,0 06) Canoeiro - 7,0 07) I Had the Craziest Dream - 6,5 08) Bossa Na Praia (Beach Samba) - 7,0 09) My Foolish Heart - 7,0 10) Dia das Rosas (I Think of You) - 7,0 11) You Didn't Have to Be So Nice - 7,0 12) Não Bate O Coração - 7,0 TOTAL: 6,88 (69/100) Current ranking: 497/815

The more samba-y stuff was nice, the rest was skippable.

Perfectly beautiful vibes that flow like beach waves and end with the tide. It's a little dated now and doesn't have the timeless quality of other Brazilian jazz but it's still quite lovely.

Pleasant listening. Very calming.

pleasant. spring. love. relaxed. good vibes. bossa nova.

Fun album

Fun vibes. Very Mad Men-ish. Especially lovely to play while driving through industrial districts on an overcast day

Nice smooth listening, I found it quite boring though. Music I could put on in the background maybe while I read or draw? I loved the flute in the background which bumps this up

Solid. I’m currently frozen solid. But solid.

Un petit aspect arrangements pour monde de licornes qui m'agace. Je recommande plutôt album 2026 de Kreator: Krushers of the World.

Encore du brésilien! D’après moi mon dimery pense encore à son premier amour de jeunesse qui était brésilienne

I thought I would enjoy this more than I did. Found it kind of boring tbh.

This was mostly very pleasant with a couple songs I could do without. Could come back to it, feels like a 3.5

Had some very strong songs but then the more mid stuff came and as a full album I can't rate it as high as I would some songs.

Very pleasant. I would like to samba on the beach. Really could've done without "You Didn't Have to Be So Nice," though. Creepy.

I could listen to it all day ... most of it. There are just a couple I would skip through, but over all I like it!

Enjoyable Samba album

Pretty solid intro to this kind of music, I thoroughly enjoy it. Doesn’t quite sound like the 60s, it really sounds contemporaneous, it’s good for it. Three thoughts.

Its really soft and nice. Not my vibe, but a vibe generally

Very relaxing, would listen to when studying or reading etc

Sounds like how smoking indoors at an airport must’ve smelled. Nice enough arrangements and her voice is lovely and conversational, but nothing knocked me over. Enjoyable but underwhelming. Could've done without "Parade (A Banda)". Felt like a weird interlude.

a bit boring but still warm and inviting. A couple fun tidbits here and there like I Think of You’s percussion and the parade song

Astrud has a lovely voice. I enjoyed this album.

Classic sound, great for an evening with mulled wine, or a beach bar with a cocktail. Samba isn’t usually my speed, but would put it on again

I like her vibe, this is maybe not the best of her stuff I have heard.

Another album I would have never listened to but glad I did

Something about the lazy rythms and overly sweet lyrics grates my nerves after a while. This is not a bad album, but I would never, ever, chose to play it outside of this list.

Okay, but my least favorite samba album on this list so far.

Excellent period samba. Good grooves. Will listen again

Some nice easy-listening. I’m not crazy about a lot of the tracks on this album but the production is nice and the studio band is stacked. The duet on “You Didn't Have to Be So Nice” is really cute. I like a lot of people involved on this album but it’s not my favorite output by any of them.

A good background album for the most part. The circus track and the duet with the child take away from what I feel to be the essence of the album.

Bouncy fun. Reminds me of jungle if they had a singer in there. 3/5

Favorite track(s): The Face I Love, Oba Oba, My Foolish Heart

Pleasant enough.

Very cinematic and relaxing. But some songs make me want to dance. A soothing voice and lovely musicality. Not something I’d regularly listen to, but this would be excellent to play at a dinner or set the mood for a late 60s party vibe. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

There's a certain blissful dreaminess to this style of music. The fluttering flutes and often unrushed vocals lend to a feeling of relaxation in the downtempo songs. For that I can see the general appeal, but I can't say I was really into this particular album. Like its fine, but its just fine. Standouts for me were My Foolish Heart, I Think of You, Misty Roses, and Oba Oba. This is a pleasant, high 3 for me.

Was never going to be anything other than a 3. Peaceful, quick, and never going to listen to it again

The yazz flute on this first song is sweet. Also love the xylophone mixed in. Started hot and trailed off for me. I think the song with her kid in it took me out of it a bit. High 3 though.

Lovely little sounds, uplifted by the most adorable cover.

This would probably have been better without the vocals. It's good background music, but the vocals are corny in a way only 60s pop can be.

This was really cute! I probably won't come back to it very often, but sometimes I'm in the mood for this type of vibe. My favorites are "Misty Roses", is it wrong to say that one reminds me of the Carpenters?. "Oba Oba" was fun also. "My Foolish Heart" reminded me of Laufey, I wonder if she listens to this album. "You didn't have to be so nice" was also really cute, a little duet with her son I'm assuming. I didn't really care for "Parade", It reminded me too much of "I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas" and was just repetitive. I want to put this at 4 for vibes, but if I'm being honest it's probably more like a 3.5 or a 3.75 on a good day. I wish this site had half stars.

Pleasant bossa nova, but a bit dull. I was hoping for more.

Great song picks and the music is great but the singing could be way better 3.4

2.5 stars This was light and simple. I enjoyed it, it was pretty and straight forward and short. It made me want to listen to more of this type of music that wasn’t trying to bring in the western influence. I don’t know that if rises to great lengths but definitely enjoyable and I’d listen again.

A bit boring. Background music, pretty chilled out but nothing special

The nicest sounding music I would love to take a nap too. Take a nice nap in the shade, you wake up this is playing from somewhere in the distance, curious you seek out the source of the noise and find a beach bar serving cold drinks. Life is good.

Slick, pretty and very mellow, a fine record.

Reminds me of riding in my parents station wagon as a kid…still hear some of this on Mom’s Muzak station in her car!

Bossa Nova is a genre that has been negatively impacted by all the background music played in cafes. BGM that often is mainstream hit songs remade into bossa nova covers, probably because it's suitable for the mood and it's royalty free. Astrud Gilberto is great don't get me wrong. I don't think I know any voice that is as calming as hers, and I enjoy listen to her front time to time. Great backing band too. But gotdamn all the Coldplay and Taylor Swift songs, I already dislike, remade into bossa nova covers. Thanks Starbucks etc, your coffee sucks too.

good background work music lol, pretty cool. The parade song is a bit jarring lmao

Nice enough, but all a bit backgroundy. I feel there are better examples of this genre.

Dont know whether it was because I listened to this directly after napalm death or not. But I enjoyed this a lot more than I expected to. It started off like lift music, but just grew into something more than that. Its a bit different to your standard Latin american. Nothing spectacular but nice easy listening. Worth 3 of anybody's points.

Melodijos primena stoneflower. Vienintelė nepatiko su tuo vaiku, parade irgi nelabai kokia.

I felt like it was the 60s in brazil

Fun easy listen.

Wikipedia says this is one of Astrud's less impressive albums in the 60s... so not sure why they chose this one. The first few songs are classic samba, until we get to Parade (A Banda), which is some sort of hybrid between parade samba and circus music which comes off pretty badly. You Didn't Have to Be So Nice is a little weak as well. I like samba but not sure I'll go back to this album. 3/5

Nice vibe. Parade is awful though.

Reminds me of Nancy Sinatra. Very 60's/poolside kind of music loungey/orchestral/at times .

No time fir the parade song and the whole thing comes across as a cash grab of the Yankee Dollar but it is a bloody good cash grab

Not a style of music I would seek out on my own but also nothing to be upset about being assigned. Good, easy listening with a Spanish flavor.

Super pretty melodies, great vibes. Don't think much will stick with me in the long run but this was a lovely start to my Friday and with it coming into the warmer months where I live I would not be opposed to putting this on again for some easy summer day listening. Faves: Misty Roses, Beach Samba, Canoeiro

very easy listening for memories of a time before I was around, still not sure where Ipanema is :P

I’m not familiar with bossa nova at all, so most of the songs sound kind of similar to me.

A very pretty album, though it doesn’t really engage me. The orchestral adornments are beautiful. Reminds me of Nat King Cole/crooner calibre string arrangement. I do love Brazilian guitar playing. Chords are interesting and there is some complex movement, musically it’s very sophisticated, but it still feels like background music to me. It was nice music to fold laundry and clean to, but not something that captures my attention enough to focus solely on. I will probably throw this on again while cleaning the house, but not in a ‘serious’ way?

I liked this - above all it was a pleasant listen

Coming not too far off from the Getz/Gilberto record, Astrud's release begins as an appealing rose in the shades of nostalgia. Naturally as the record progresses, it begins to wear off into more ballad territory, but it doesn't nip too much of its bud. I don't know what that last sentence means, but I know that I was trying to say. I do appreciate that song near the end where she sings with her son; it's a cute one. Overall, fine stuff to get to hear and it took me a good week to figure out an opinion. This is my opinion: (6/10, 3/5 on this scale)

The kid in “You Didn’t Have To Be So Nice” sounds like Orville the Duck

Nothing wrong with a little bossa nova.

chill album but worse than getz/gilberto

Love the jazzy samba vibes, and although Astrud doesn't have the greatest voice, it tonally fits the sound and era. My only gripe is the uneveness of the tracks. One minute I'm touring the 1960s Italian countryside, the next I'm in a collegiate marching band...What?!! Anyway, It mostly succeeds and with each track at 2 1/2 minutes tops, it's a pretty breezy listen.

I wish I knew how to dance
