Reviews (page 7 of 14)

A favorite of mine that has been in my car CD player for months at a time, periodically

Classic.

Had this on tape as a kid and loved it. Still do. A couple of the slower songs are a bit schmaltzy but there are so many different approaches that it's constantly an interesting listen. PYT hasn't aged too well as a concept given... y'know... Vincent Price MVP. Love the Eddie Van Halen guitar solo on Beat It too. The Girl is Mine is notable for being the worst song on the album, which happens to be written by two of the best songwriters ever. Why does McCartney sing that one bit really low? Why did they think the talking bit at the end was a good idea? Despite how crap the song is there are a couple of bits where their skill shines through in the chorus.

Allerbeste pop album of all time weinig wat dit kan overtreffen Zo ontzettend veel classirkers op een album zou verboden moeten zijn

Undeniable

This is a classic pop album, solid listen front to back. With songs like thriller, Billie Jean, and beat it, Michael shows why he was the king of pop.

banger

Bopper

Such a fun album- really enjoyed singing to it in the car

One of the greatest albums of all time in my opinion, probably in the top 25. I wish the ratings were 1-10 instead and this would land at 9 since it's not going to be in my usual music rotation but for the purposes of 1-5 I'll rate this a 5.

#1 banger, bit repetitive, but he keeps it fresh. You're a vegetable. #2 Slow, kind of me. Good swing, and fun, but eh . interesting key change at the end. #3 banger. Paul is goat, great concept, very fun, great lyrics. #4 All time classic. #5 All time classic. #6 all time classic. #6 pretty good, slow. #7 PYT is such a bop #8 Meh

This is one of the greatest albums ever made, and certainly the best pop album of all time. The only track on this album I'm not a big fan of is "The Girl is Mine".

5*****

As perfect of an album you can find. A fun sound that The Weeknd is revisiting today. Throw it on at any party and get dancing and singing!

Classic

A perfect pop album. Hit after hit after hit, with good reason, danceable, fun from front to back.

Glorious

Thriller, Beat It and Billie Jean is as solid a 3 song block as you'll find. Now which of the 3 goes on the list

Classic

🫶🏼

I had forgotten how good this album was. He was genius for his time. Brought back many fond memories of wearing a single glove running around my backyard.

Lives up to being the best selling album of all time.

wanna be startin somethin - 90 baby be mine - 94 the girl is mine - 86 thriller - 98 beat it - 95 billie jean - 99 human nature - 94 pyt - 95 lady in my life - 85

Classic.

You can’t go wrong with Michael Jackson. It’s a classic for a reason. Great tunes.

Absolute perfection. What else is there to say?

one of my favorite albums of all time. funky and beautiful

Possibly, the best pop album ever…

Every track is a masterpiece. Can really figure out any negative sides from this album.

This album is the album of my early childhood songs Iike Billie Jean and Wanna be Starting something are some of the best pop songs ever released. This album means a lot to me. And I will not tolerate The girl is mine hate, it is a straight banger

Despite his personal failings - this is still an amazing pop album.

Typical classic of MichaelJackson 10/10

Let me be very clear: this rating is not for the singer (by this point we’re all well aware of what he did), but for this album’s place in pop history, and for the talented musicians, backing vocalists, songwriters, engineers and producers who helped create it. And also Vincent Price, who earns two stars on his own.

Classic Album. Buy it.

Legendary album. Its kind of a masterpiece of production and songwriting - Theres a reason why its like 34x platinum or whatever. 5/5

Certified banger. SHAMONE!

Todd I don't think I've listened to this from start to end. The ablum is very cohesive, I kinda forget when one song has ended and another started.

a true classic album! I mean it's Michael Jackson, it's his Magnum Opus

Thriller/Beat It/Billie Jean...in a row. does not get any better than that

This album has all the best Michael Jackson songs on it. An almost comical dud for me is 'The Girl is Mine' with Paul McCartney - the spoken section, in particular, is very very funny! It is so difficult to know how to feel about Michael Jackson, but for me, I just feel that his musical ability and hit-making skills are unparalleled. I'm going to give this five stars because it is a spectacular pop record, and if an alien came to this planet, it would be a great introduction to pop music. Even my baby was dancing!

The great by the most significant pop singer until today is not something I can evaluate.

The Girl Is Mine (with Paul McCartney), Thriller, Beat it, Billie Jean.

Legendär

7 great songs, 1 ok song, 1 bad song. This was about as easy a 5 star album as there could be.

- obviously i heard them all before, but thriller and pyt just always hit - short album tbh - they all slated tho

Legendary hits. Didn’t realize all these classics were on the same album.

Fact is that this is a no skip album with some of the most recognizable lyrics and cuts of all time

i dont know if kids were scared of the thriller music video because it was horror or because its michael jackson and they're kids incredible album though

wow famous record a giant in rnb genre

it really is that simple folks. 8 flawless tracks, and the lady in my life for fun. this is one of the greatest albums there is.

Controversial, but I love this album. I own it and I listen to it often. I can’t help that it is so dang good, even if the artist did terrible things.

Amazing album.

Who isn’t giving this a 5?

Banger after banger after banger. Even the songs that aren't that good in comparison to the hits are still fantastic. There is a lot to say about Jackson, but his musical talent is beyond reproach.

Stone cold classic.

good start, but the middle of this album is amazing. Thriller, Beat it, and billie Jean followed by PYT not far after should be criminal. It doesn’t take a music enthusiast to understand how great this album is. Micheal Jackson did not hold back at all and the pop music world was changed for the better because of it. The only reason this amazing album didn’t get a higher score is the first song was way too long, and there was a common theme throughout the album with that. Some songs were just too drawn out.

obviously masterpiece

Own on Vinyl

This is an absolute banger of an album today! 5/5 before even listening to it. I'm very familiar with it, and have heard it many times before. Looking forward to listening to it again! Thriller is Michael Jackson's swan song. This is peak fame for Michael, and he would spend the rest of his life trying to match the popularity of this record. The production costs for this album were in the vicinity of $750,000 which is insane. Off of the record, came 7 singles (out of 9 total songs), all of which charted in the top ten pop songs in the US. The first single (The Girl Is Mine, featuring Paul McCartney) was the weakest of them in my mind. Amusingly, the last single to get released was Thriller. The music video for Thriller was the first music video by a black artist that was ever played on MTV. The music video is basically a movie about a teenage couple, in which the female has a bad dream that the male is a werewolf/zombie. The filming costs associated with the 13 minute music video were in the ballpark of $500,000! The money was well spent, however, because (2 years after the albums release) the release of Thriller caused the total album sales to double!!! While promoting the single Billie Jean on the TV programme Motown 25: Yesterday, Today, Forever Michael did his famous "Moonwalk" for the first time, blowing people away with his choreography. The song Beat It features a guitar solo, which was recorded by Eddie Van Halen. Apparently while recording the solo, Eddie caused the monitors to catch fire! That's bad ass! Overall, an absolutely historic pop classic! You can not have a list of mandatory listening without having this record on it. This record sold over 70 million copies! One of the highest sales rates of any record, ever! What an absolute powerhouse! Unashamedly love this record! Favourite songs: Billie Jean, Thriller, Beat It, Wanna Be Startin' Somethin', P.Y.T (Pretty Young Thing), Human Nature, The Girl Is Mine Least favourite song: Baby Be Mine 5/5

Partially filled by nostalgia, partially by incredible, iconic banger after banger, with just the right number of wonderful slower songs mixed in. MJ knew how to craft the perfect album. He definitely deserved his King of Pop crown.

One of my favorite albums of all time. Even with Jackson’s troubled past, I can still acknowledge that he was a phenomenal artist.

One of the greatest pop albums of all time, what more can I say?

I don’t really feel the need to explain myself with this one.

Think this held the title of "most sold albums of all time" for a very long time, and understandably so. I also read that Michael Jackson and Quincy Jones' intent was to make a record "with just hit tracks". I think they succeeded pretty well in that. Probably everyone in the world has heard some song on this album at least once, and some artists could only dream of making one of these songs once in their life. There are some tracks (The Lady in My Life and The Girl Is Mine) that are definitely not on par with the rest, but otherwise it's just banger after banger.

A classic with no doubt

Thriller A total masterpiece of dance music. Almost every song is a perfect super hit. The girl is mine is so cheesy but still great

Not much to say. It’s the best selling record of All time and an objectively perfect record. It’s the reason music videos exist and arguably the most influential record of all time as far as the industry is concerned. Everything about it is top tier, writing, arranging, performance, production etc.

Jacko at his best, right from the first nots on the album through to the last track. Everything he did after this was compared to this and frequently fell short of thriller. It's a good album and deserves 5/5 as there isn't a bad track on the album, excellent production and the track layout flows well

This may be the easiest 5 stars I'll hand out... there is no surprise that this is the best selling album ever with 'Beat It', 'Bille Jean', and 'PYT' to name three.

RIP Michael

Perfecto.

i mean come on

Pop album GOAT prove me wrong

U cannot deny the jam

No mere mortal can resist the evil of the Thriller

Iconic - knew most songs going in, still great to listen to. Everything is a standout track. 5/1001 Listened 5/22/23

classic

Perfect album through and through. every single song go hard and it’s actually nuts.

What an incredible blend of rock, funk, and soul blended with pop. Truly one of those albums that deserves the recognition. So many classic songs that catch your attention as soon as the music starts. Hard to believe something like this can just be created by someone with that much talent. Just thinking about the dancing that accompanied this is mind blowing, because the music stands out so much by itself. I would love to own this album.

I'm somewhat ashamed to say that I don't think I've ever listened to this the whole way through. It's a masterpiece, but still not perfect I'd say. The Paul McCartney duet and the last song were a bit cringy I thought. Other than those though, it's a solid 9/10.

Probably one of the most hit filled albums ever, Thriller is jam packed with top 40 and top 100 hits. Production is exquisite and the songs iconic. Even people who didn't like Michael Jackson's previous albums or style, liked this album. It made him the King of Pop. It is the album that drove wider acceptance of black artists on MTV and among white audiences. About the only complaint is that packaging is bland. The cover image looks backwards toward the late 70s and not to the future of music that this album helped create.

Literally the first album I ever owned.

Very good, "bumping"

Speechless.

Simpelweg legendarisch.

Four stand-out tracks: "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'", "Thriller", "Bbeat It", and "Billie Jean", but then you have the naff "The Girl Is Mine" - even so, a stupendous album.

Seriously? You want me to rate this? One of the best selling records of all time. With 3 of the best pop songs of all time and like 5 more really good songs too??? Yeah. …. 5

Really good album top to bottom, the bangers are absolutely bangers, and I still found myself grooving along to the less known songs. Not sure what the Paul McCartney bit was all about though...

Makes sense why its the greatest selling album (studio or otherwise) of all-time. Never listened to it front to back like that. So clean, such tight production. Amazed really by how many hits are on one album.

There's a few average songs, but the album is a banger from the king of pop

OG King of Pop

Iconic album which had equally iconic videos to go with them. I remember my mate buying this when I was but a pup, and he complained because most of the tracks had already been released as singles, so there wasn't anything new in the album. I just thought it was class. Still a strong album that stands on its own over 40 years later.

Class album

It’s impossible for me to not do the thriller dance during the song.

Classic

a classic

Wow. Otro clásico

They don't make them like this anymore.

Classic

I never listened to this album all the way through (only the hits) and I was not disappointed. A great vibe for my day.

Du ved det jo godt, :^)

Most sold album of all time for a reason. Top-notch pop rock.

5/5 album without a doubt. It has everything. A duet with Paul McCartney, an Eddie Van Halen guitar solo, and a spoken word rap by Vincent Price! The only song I really didn't care for was Lady in My Life. Favorite song (and music video): Billie Jean

One of the greats. Might be getting bonus points of nostalgia. However, one of the few albums out of my genre comfort zone to really grasp my attention.

Id let him fiddle my kids

It's thriller. like come on. how can someone not like it. just like. thriller. if you don't like it how. like it's thriller how do you not like thriller. everyone likes thriller. I like thriller. good album.

NO MISSES THATS WHY HES THE GOAT ‼️ 10/10

Such a great album with so many iconic songs. A few songs that felt a little slow but worked great as beautiful ballads - just not the vibe always. So many songs stuck in my head and a great throwback overall.

It's Thriller! The well-deserved greatest selling album of all time. Every second of every track in the album is a bop, and the entire thing is probably the most influential album since Sgt. Pepper's, and considering we still have people in 2023 trying to emulate the "Thriller" sound, there's a good argument in saying it's moreso influential.

I'm parking everything and just rating the songs. One of the greatest albums of all time. It has sold more copies than anything else. It was a massive part of my childhood. Outstanding.

This is a masterpiece. Despite what you may think of him outside of the music, you can't deny how well crafted every piece of this is. If you're not going to give the credit Michael at least give props to Quincy Jones. This is the best pop record period.

Stone-cold classic. Thriller, Beat It, Billie Jean! Paul McCartney! If the Thriller video didn't scare you shitless as a kid in the 80s, what were you even doing?! NO ONE WANTS TO BE DEFEATED!!! EVH guitar solo! 1.3 billion streams! Ah, it's like a nice mellow come down. And back up again. And down. Wow. 5 / 5 stars.

I mean, it's Thriller

Can you imagine making an album where Thriller, Beat It and Billie Jean are all back-to-back and they're not even the only good songs on the album? I can't. What a ride.

Måske det mest ikoniske pop-album, bangers hele vejen igennem

5/5 This album was unbelievably huge when it came out. It was popular and consistently produced hits for nearly two years. Standouts: Billie Jean, Beat It, Wanna Be Starting' Something, PYT, The Girl is Mine, Human Nature, Thriller. Video Standouts: Billie Jean, Beat it and Thriller. These were all Major events!

A great album from start to finish

The king

One of best albums of all time

Different levels. It’s a five from me

Belter

Well needed change of scenery Easy 5* job

This album is a five. The triple snare drum into one of the grooviest riffs of all time to open the album on 'Wanna Be Startin' Somethin' is otherworldly People were actually telling man to 'Beat It' back in the day. Thriller, Billie Jean, even Paul McCartney does his ting on The Girl is Mine. Masterpiece. Fave track - P.Y.T

This is arguably one of the most important albums in pop's history, and I believe it is still yet to be topped.

A classic from top to bottom.

Legendary album by a bad man.

The GOAT! Front to back the album is a solid 10/10 with no skips. I didn’t realize it was only 9 songs and 42mins. Forty years later and this album sounds like it came out tomorrow.

I dalje jedan od najboljih pop albuma ikad. The girl is mine je užas😄ostalo su baš klasici.

More of an Off the Wall guy. But this is crisp. Quincy and the King of Pop. Don’t know how people dislike this.

I just confirmed that I love this album.

I have loved this album my whole life

an all around classic, not much i can say that hasn't already been said. i do prefer off the wall though.

One of the best albums of the 80s hands down. I’ll try make some lesser made observations on it’s craft. The sound of what sounds like rocks being struck apart on Wanna Be Startin’ Something is a startling metaphor for the unstoppable momentum of its mantra. The whole album is underrated lyrically, from Baby Be Mine’s “Won’t you stay with me until the morning sun? I promise you now that the dawn will be different, Lady can't you see that heaven's just begun, It's living here inside our hearts” and also Human Nature’s “four walls won’t hold me tonight” The Girl is Mine has gorgeous arrangement and the back and forth between Michael and Paul is endearing. The wolves howling at the start of Thriller signal the commitment to the bit, “you feel the cold hand and wonder if you’ll ever see the sun” is a great line. The back up vocalists on Beat It doing MJ ad-libs is a masterstroke. Billie Jean is a masterpiece of layering vocals, the background “he-he”s and “no-no”s, the “Don’t think twice! Hoo!”. The tongue flicks at the beginning. Human Nature is very romantic and whimsical lyrically, synths are beautiful. PYT’s synth squeal is irresistible, no wonder Kanye sampled it. The Lady In My Life has a beautiful ode to eternal love. Ignore the narrative that this album is hits and filler. A masterpiece from front to back.

I clearly remember listening to the radio in late 1982 and the announcer telling us that we were going to hear the first new single from the long-awaited new Michael Jackson album. It would be a duet with Paul McCartney and I was excited. The song was “The Girl is Mine,” I was 14, and, doggone it, it made me vomit. “Well,” I thought, “so much for that album.” It was then a surprise that for the whole next year, the soundtrack to our lives was most of the rest of the album. Apparently I wasn't the only one wondering, "What the hell were they thinking starting with that one?" There are a couple more sickly sweet songs on the album, but even so, as a whole it is a powerhouse of amazing, iconic songs (and videos) that changed the course of 1980s music. "Beat It" will always get me fired up. This album definitely made its place in history and there it rightfully remains forty years later...even if we'd all happily forgotten about that doggone girl and the cringy banter over her.

Summer of '83. In the high school auto shop building. Poking paper napkins through chicken wire tacked to a flat-bed truck, building a float for the Central Wyoming Fair and Rodeo Parade. A Thriller cassette is in a boom box. Each time a side ends, someone is there to flip it over and press play. When we get to that part of Wanna Be Startin' Somethin', everyone stops and yells "Yee Haw!" (Though the Apple Music lyrics tell me now it's "he ha." Whatever.) This was the soundtrack to our lives for more than a year. It changed everything and it meant a lot.

Thriller is a monster of a pop album, made by a monster of a man. I can’t resolve that here and struggle having both in my head at once. I’m totally comfortable with Quincy Jones’ production perfection. No wonder this remains at the pinnacle of pop.

Really nice. It has both chill night mood and dancing mood.

Awesome

"The Girl is Mine" sucks, and Michael Jackson as a human being was despicable, but this album is so historic you have to rate it a 5/5.

Paul McCartney really lost his shit in the 80s. The duet here is lame but when Thriller starts it is all forgotten.

Collection of absolute bangers. Like Phil Spector and Roman Polanski, a real example of the ethical dilemma in trying to separate an individual from their art.

One of a kind!

It still slaps and slaps hard. Nine songs, 7 of which were released as singles, and ALL SEVEN cracked the Billboard Top 10. You can make the argument that the other two songs would have been Top 10 Hits if they were also released as singles ("The Girl Is Mine", a duet with Paul McCartney which is the weakest song on the album, was the first single released, and that thing made it all the way to number 2, so Jacko and producer Quincy Jones were clearly on a roll). Vincent Price and Goddamn Eddie Van Halen make cameo appearances for crying out loud.

I was afraid this album would be like bad where I ended up actually disliking it but this shit was awesome. Every song was masterfully produced and the big hits are still great even though I’ve heard beat it and Billie Jean hundreds of times. Doesn’t get more 80s than this but also doesn’t get too much better than this.

It is a strange coincidence that this album was generated for me to listen to today, as it was less than a week ago that I was requested to review it on Instagram. I thought I’d recognise every song of this album based on the simple fact that he’s Michael Jackson, but I surprisingly do not. Songs I already knew: Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’, Thriller, Beat It, Billie Jean, Human Nature Favourites: Thriller, Human Nature, The Girl Is Mine It is very clear from this album why Michael Jackson was known as the Prince of Pop. His voice is incredible throughout (if a little funny at times with all the hee-hees) and his music remains very catchy and easy to sing along to. The Girl Is Mine stood out to me as a song I wasn’t remotely familiar with, yet really enjoyed. My only real criticism of this album is something that could only really be said with hindsight - P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing) does sound somewhat dodgy in light of the many very public allegations towards MJ.

Absolute classic. Iconic with very few forgettable moments. Probably has the most iconic three consecutive tracks of all time. Holds a special place in my heart. Truly a Thriller indeed

I already know most of these songs just looking at the album cause I grew up on this. There were a few that I didn't know. I looked up the history of a few of them on wikipedia, and Billie Jean makes a lot more sense now that I listen to the lyrics.

Fantastic album regardless of MJs later life choices. Always thought the enunciation on the song 'Thriller' was weird though. Sounds like he's singing "driller". Either way, great songs, even the terrible McCartney one.

5/5 so many bangers Wanna be starting something Baby be mine Thriller Beat it Billie Jean Human nature P.y.t

I haven’t listened to this album in a hundred years and it DID NOT DISAPPOINT. I would give it 5 stars ALLBE for Human Nature.

The first LP I ever bought, and still one of my favourite albums of all time. Pop music executed and produced to perfection.

Wtf... So many good songs and I'm only halfway through. Ok this is nuts.

It's Michael Jackson, how you gonna rate him anything other than 5 stars? Also he got a funny little tiger on him!

Love it.

I don't understand review bombing. If you don't like someone, or their politics or if you think they are a pedo - then don't listen. Why do you feel like you need to give it a bad review/score? Do you feel like you need to somehow keep other people from listening? Slag off. Thriller is a masterwork of pop music. It's not my preferred style, but it is demonstrably excellent.

I mean, come on. Thriller - one of the best selling albums of all time. In the mid 80s, when the radio was your main source of music, Thriller absolutely dominated. It was everywhere. Multiple songs popular at once - they were even selling single sequined gloves in a bun at the register at Penny’s in the Huntington WV mall. No, I didn’t get one. But I totally would have if it wouldn’t have shocked my mom. I don’t live every song on this, but most of them I do - still holds up 30 years later.

What more can be said? I’ll tell you what: Michael Jackson > Elvis

Un classique 4.90

This album is just phenomenal. It’s like, every song is perfect, then somehow the next song is even better, then the next song is somehow even better again? I honestly want to go back and remark some of my other rating because they don’t deserve to have the same 5 stars as this masterpiece. What genre is it? pop/rock/disco/80/soul/funk? It is the best album, ever.

Every track a classic ! He was a genius. 5*

I knew this would be a 5 when I got it, as I enjoy a lot of songs off of here already. I liked the songs that I hadn't heard before a lot, which I kind of didn't expect. Great album! My favourite songs were The Girl Is Mine, Baby Be Mine, and The Lady in My Life.

Perfect

This was close to a revolution. And it was nice listening to it again.

Favourite song: Human Nature One for the karaoke: The Girl Is Mine (a duet with one of either Shaun or Nick. I will be MJ or McCartney - I’m not fussed.) One for the car: Wanna Be Starting Something Here it is - my first 5. Had no choice. The wiki states MJ wanted to make an album where “every song was a killer” and Quincy Jones has absolutely bingoed it. Not a skip worthy song on it. Silly, really.

This gets 5 due to the bangers. The run of songs consisting of Thriller, Beat It, Billie Jean and Human Nature has to be the strongest run of songs possibly ever. Whilst I don’t like this album as much as the other 5s I have given, the longevity and absolute bangers in here outweigh songs like The Lady In my Life and The Girl is Mine. Favourite song - Billie Jean (makes me feel like a kid playing Vice City) One for karaoke - Beat It One for a run - Beat It

never heard Baby Be Mine or The Girl is Mine before and really like both of them!! lots of fun surprises on this album i knew it was going to be an awesome day as soon as i saw that this was my album today

This is the perfect pop album. An absolute masterpiece and incredibly consistent. Aside from all the singles the rest could have been singles. The high point of 80s production adds a beautiful listening experience. There's a good reason why this album sold so many copies and it still stands up.

Album is undeniably a masterpiece. 5 stars. Rating the music and not MJ himself.

Every track is a classic. Beat it, Billie Jean, Thriller, Wanna be starting something, everything was great to listen to.

Easy 5. I wore this record out as a kid. Probably the cassette too. Truly one of the greatest albums of all time. The beats, the blend of rock and pop and R&B, the lyrics, the varied vocals, the everything. There is such a range of song styles and yet every single one of them is a hit (well maybe not The Lady in My Life). But there are great artists whose greatest hits aren't as good as this album. What else needs to be said?

Wanna be starting, the girl, beat it,thriller, billie jean, pyt

Classic

Detta är pop.

Ignoring all the drama and ethical issues around Michael Jackson, this album is just too important to not give it a 5. Thriller, Billie Jean, Beat It, Baby Be Mine, P.Y.T., all on one album? Insane. The only blemish is the horrible “The Girl is Mine” with Paul McCartney. Almost worth knocking off a star for that, but we’ll keep it at 5, since this really is that much of a heavyweight of an album.

This album really has Thriller, Beat It, and Billie Jean back-to-back-to-back. Legendary. Best track: Billie Jean

In truth, this is my first time listening to Thriller from cover to cover. Is there a more iconic three-song run in an album than Thriller, into Beat It, into Billie Jean? I went into this album with high expectations, and even the songs I was not already familiar with were awesome. This is the easiest 5-star rating I've given so far.

Ok, so there are two thorny issues to contend with here. (1) The dubious behaviours of Michael Jackson throughout his life, from the bizarre to the (definitely not smooth) criminal, (2) the quite frankly absurd appearance of Paul McCartney on The Girl is Mine (instantly rendering it the weakest song on the album). Without those factors, this album would be an undeniable 5/5, certified gold-standard, all-time superlative superlative superlative superlative. Can we detach the artist from the art? In my view, whether one can or not, this is some of the finest music ever written, such catchy bass lines and crisp beats. For me, the music stands alone, and it's a solid 5/5.

The best selling album of all time

Fireeeee bro sheeeshh

I really didn't want to listen to any Michael Jackson albums, but I have a very fond place in my heart for some of these songs.

Ped😔

Innovative, groundbreaking.

Nothing to say, all good

Shame he's a nonce

It’s Thriller… Thriller.

Technically perfect

Classic.

Pretty much a flawless album

Rilluh! Rilluh! Rilluh!

no, _you're_ a buffet

Every single song slaps. Just repeat until you can’t. From start to finish, the whole album is youthful exhibetsnce, flirting, passion, angst, loss, victory, and so much more.

So many hits on this album. An all time great.

Classic. Only two songs I was like meh about.

listened to again nearly every song on this record was and still is an instant hit

It is hard to separate the music from the phenomenon that Thriller was. I tried to ignore everything extraneous to the music and the future freak show Michael Jackson became. I could quibble - Thriller gets a bit cheesy and the McCartney duet is not the best. I personally like Off The Wall better. None of that matters. This is great music. It is understandable that it is the greatest selling album of all time.

This album is the pop music champion. Almost every song was a hit. It also inspired music videos to become bigger and more over the top. Most of these songs have aged very well. I'd like to give this one a 4.5 but I have to round up as it launched Jackson into a completely other stratosphere.

Easy 5. Every song is an absolute banger and this plays like a greatest hits. Quincy and MJ really cooked up some fire on this one. Each song is distinct but the album feels cohesive. My favorites are PYT, Baby Be Mine, and Human Nature.

All hits no filler. Enough said

The guy can write pop songs that's for sure. Has songs to dance to, rock to, think about peacefully, whatever. MJ gives an incredible performance, displaying his extensive personality: loud, fast, and spontaneous, while also exposing several heartfelt or friendly moments. Production is the best among its era, original yet versatile and full of depth. Very electronic-driven but follows his disco formula (like a predecessor to Daft Punk), and deeply incorporates rock and soul. As much of a Beatles fan I am, it disappoints me to say that the only weak song is "The Girl is Mine" (only thing I like is the production). Every other song is an absolute perfect banger (or near to it)! Track ordering couldn't be much better (excluding "The Girl is Mine"), with the first two pulling in the audience, the mega hits in the middle, and the slower, more focused tracks at the end. Favorites: Thriller, Beat It, Human Nature, PYT

Immaculate. Nearly every song has its surprises, and the hits are the hits. I was unaware of Toto's involvement, but you can hear it, and it just barely works. The disco sound on Thriller is teetering.

there’s a reason this was the top selling album of all time, every song is a hit and they’re all good. love it

It's Thriller. I mean ... Edward Van Halen and 70 million fans weren't wrong here. 9/10 5 stars.

Grew up on this album. Actual vinyl album. Every single song on this is a hit. Say what you want about the man, but this is the gold standard of 1980's pop. Truly the King of Pop. Propbably my least favorite song on here is the title song, but even still, this entire piece of art is museum worthy. This was really great to listen to once again.

Album is on here for a reason, there's not a bad song on here. Michael Jackson continues to seduce me with his voice.

Michael. Thriller. Revolutionary.

An absolute classic album. Michael was the soundtrack to my childhood. 10 top 10s on this album, what more can you say.

My 8 year old self loved this more than anything. The art is great.

5 I’ve loved this album since 5th grade. The melodies, the beats, the bass. Quincy Jones’ touch is everywhere on this album. It’s so much fun and it’s so theatrical. So many songs on here are all-time classics. The 40th anniversary is this year and it’s absolutely worth buying on vinyl. Favorites include: All of them. Seriously. I love all of the songs on this and the 25th anniversary bonus tracks.

WAAY better than Bad nearly every song was great, even the slow-jams that I’m not a big fan of still hit really well favorite slow-jam was probably The Lady In My Life but yeah really great album - 10/10

9/10. Definitely a pretty good album, and the Best Michael Jackson album I've heard, but not quite a 10 for me

Pretty much every song is a hit. Pure genius. 10/10

This album is purely amazing! That’s no surprise coming from the KING OF POP! Every song on this album is a banger and that makes it a master piece! Every song is a standout!

BANGING ALBUM

Sample em 4:52 de Wannabe Startin. The Girls is Mine é linda!!!! Billy Jean sempre fantástica. Human Nature belíssima!!

Well here it is, the biggest selling album of all time. In a rare moment on this list where prestige and popularity converge. It's hard to see this album for what it was when it debuted because it now carries so much weight and significance just in terms of its reputation. Here's the thing though, Michael Jackson, love him or hate him took pop music superstar to a level that seemed impossible. The man himself will continue to puzzle us all, but musically - what a powerhouse. His evolution from child star to the king of pop is wild. His voice is a marvel - and when it comes to this album, the songs are all so, for lack of a better word, interesting. 7 of of these 9 tracks were charting singles. "You're a vegetable," in "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'" is curious. And there's a Billie Jean reference in that song too. Never heard that before! With Thriller, Jackson pioneered the new way to put a pop record together - heavy production, centralized vocals, catchy hooks, focus on singles, marketing and revolutionary use of music video. I'm curious who's more responsible for "The Girl is Mine," I mean, I am a devoted Beatles fan, and I love McCartney - but what the hell is this song doing on here, and why , and what and huh? The conversation part of that song is cringeworthy. It almost made me give this thing a 4/5, but most of my 5/5 albums still have duds on them, just not this big of a dud. But the other 8 make up for it in spades. There's tons to talk about with this album; I haven't even mentioned Billie Jean, Beat It, Thriller, or PYT yet. This is where the Moonwalk came from for Christ's sake! It's a 5 album - and I'm saying this as someone who's not a big solo Michael Jackson fan, but I can't deny the way this one pops!

I never owned it, but I'd certainly heard every song, many times. All killer, all thriller, no filler.

Great album. Lots of hits.

Thriller, Beat It, Billie Jean. What a 3-song combo! Thriller is a killer album.

I was 10 when it came out. Everyone of all ages seem to listen to this album, it was everywhere. At least in my lifetime no album or artist was ever bigger. I wasn't the biggest Michael Jackson fan but it was hard not to like this album or the videos during the golden age of MTV. I'm given it 5 stars not for the music per se but for everything that went along with it at that time.

The power of this record is undeniable even if it isn’t the style of music you enjoy. I’m not a fan of all of it but it was a juggernaut of hits with global reach and enduring impact.

There is a reason this is the best selling album worldwide, it’s awesome. This is truly the “King of Pop” with hit after hit. I am sympathetic to those who say it doesn’t really work as an album. But if decided I just don’t care. The high points are so high that the few low points or missteps are barely noticeable

I don’t have any reason to complain about it. Almost every song is a classic. I had never heard The Girl Is Mine before and I loved it. I found myself imagining being at one of his concerts during his prime. PYT!!!

Some huge songs on here. Is Mr Shrill a technical joke, or pure genius? I think both

The musical merits of this album are overshadowed by the hype and his unfortunate history. We are here to judge the album I believe? At the time I was pulled along by the rollercoaster too and loved it. There's nothing deep and meaningful here, it's supremely well produced and slick pop music with very little to match it. Every track is a hit.

Va akkurat da eg trengte i dag. Og shit så nostalgisk

This is an album that really- hands down, no argument - belongs on this list (for a change). Michael Jackson, who later was dubbed King of Pop, delivers an irresistible mix of Pop, Soul and R&B. Every track grooves, every track shines due to the production work of one of the true masters - Quincy Jones. The rhythm section is sometimes human, sometimes programmed, but always grooving. There is even the famous guitar solo on Beat It, played by Eddie Van Halen. And MJ himself delivers on almost every track. The songs themselves are fantastic as well, the only odd one out is The Girl is Mine - I find both the lyrics and their delivery by Jackson on that song to be quite cringeworthy. But apart from that, this album is a true, iconic classic. 4.5/5

There's a reason it was once the biggest selling album of all time. Pure pop perfection, start to finish.

Four Stars And A Half. Why not five stars? Let's be *a little* serious for a second: an album with a cheesefest such as "The Girl Be Mine" can't possibly boast deserving a five-star review. Especially when such cheesefest is on the third slot of said album. McCartney is to blame on this one too, but mostly, the real culprit is probably producer Quincy Jones here. He should just have put his foot down and *at least* change the ordering of the tracks. In a way, this dud also foretells everything that went wrong with Michael Jackson afterwards (it's part of "Hisstory" ha ha). So I guess you'd better listen to it *once*, and then just skip it everytime you spin this album again. Just a friendly piece of advice here... This minor debacle being out of the way now, the fact that everything else on *Thriller* is spot on, even with such an early misstep in the tracklisting, tells a lot about how important this record is overall. Production values AND songwriting here go hand in hand to give an avid amateur of groove the time of their life. Rarely have pop, funk, rock, disco and r'n'b been so intricately and artfully mixed together. This album is just the stuff of legend--not only for those eternal hits that made Michael Jackson as a solo artist enter music history through luxurious front gates (the title-track, "Billie Jean", "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'" or "Beat It"), but also for all those incredibly flawless arrangements driving the whole shebang to the max. This here is the best *blockbuster* album the eighties have ever given to the world, for which Jones can now be thanked a thousand times. Each rumbling bassline, each guitar lick, each beat, each comma--each raspy breath from Michael, even--is like a sonic dream come true. The care for details just leaves you speechless. And yet, just like many of those blockbuster movies from the same decade (by Steven Spielberg, Ron Howard or John Landis, who actually directed "Thriller"'s unforgettable video), the overall story this record offers you is also filled with a lot of charm and soul, as ludicrously grand and insanely ambitious as its settings are. The first record I had to review for this app was Jackson's aptly-named *Bad*. One of the very rare one-star reviews I have ever written for this project (please feel free to read it for yourself, for what it's worth). *Of course* I also had "Thriller" in mind as I wrote it, wishing I had had that one to review instead, if only to set the record straight about what I really thought about Michael Jackson as an artist. The circle is now complete. Now I can go on on this thing with a lighter mind (and with very open ears, that goes without saying... :) ...). In the meantime, I'll keep on trying to practice my moonwalk steps in my living room as I play this album again and again and again... Number of albums left to review or just listen to: 895 Number of albums from the list I find relevant enough to be mandatory listens: 56 (including this one) Albums from the list I *might* include in mine later on: 27 Albums from the list I will certainly *not* include in mine (many others are more important): 23

5.0 - The first cassette album I ever owned back when I was just 4. And 40 years later it still sparkles. Like everyone else on the planet, I've heard "Billie Jean" countless times and still think it's a banger. Same with "Beat It", especially Van Halen's guitar solo. "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'" sounds like something cooked up by Fela Kuti and it's non-stop bops. "P.Y.T" is another stone-cold jam. My only criticism is with "The Girl is Mine" - Paul McCartney stinks up the vibe and I just don't believe that the two of them would ever argue over a girl.

Michael Jackson is probably the ultimate case of art vs the artist. For years I didn't listen to his music initially because of the Neverland documentary and pedo allegations, and then just forgot about him for a while really. But damn I'd be lying if Thriller isn't a 5. Most artists would kill to have half of these songs in their career, let alone on one album. Just can't help getting down with it. My only critque is that it ends on The Lady In My Life, the weakest song by a mile.

I've quite enjoyed rediscovering this album. So many great songs, I just love the interplay between Paul and Michael on The Girl Is Mine. Thriller itself, oh man, that video clip!. Beat It, Bille Jean!

If ever there was a 5 this album is it! Perfect!

Well. Ok. Literally everyone in the world knows and loves this album. And also owns the CD somewhere in their house. Maybe except Wade Robson and James Safechuck. 5 regardless

We immediately start with a banger of an opening track. Honestly just off the opening track itself, 10/10. Song 2 is also a banger. Nice and mellow after track 1. Album still at 10/10. Third song is also mellow. Hmm. Maybe we should pick it up a bit, but it’s still so smoooth and jazzy. It’s just the opener was so explosive. I guess maybe we do need to chill out. Wait! A feature!! This song is incredible I take it back I was being foolish. Still at 10/10. OMG THRILLER! BABES. 10 OUT OF 10. NOT A SINGLE FLAW PLSSSS. Is there crack in this album? In this song? And now we go straight into Beat It??? Can this man let me BREATHE?? Guess what. 10. Out of. 10. Oh my dayyysssss. Billie Jean. Girl. 10/10. Next song. Much more mellow which is a needed break after the bangers. 10!10. Penultimate track. A groovy banger. Damn. Still at 10=10. Final song. Nice and slow to close out probably one of the best albums I’ve ever listened to. Why did it take me so long to listen to this album in its entirety? It’s brilliant. I al ways believed and agreed when people said this was one of the best albums of all time, but now I’m listening first hand. Truly, it’s incredible. I can’t really think of a single thought. I’ve loved the sub-45 minute listening experience. 10/10.

Muito bom, sonzao envolvente

I mean c'mon we all know this is great.

Michael really knew what he was doing

The pop culture this album spawned makes it worth the listen. No matter what you think of the person who made the music.

This deserves all the praise it gets

One of the greatest pop album period!

Ultimate Michael Jackson

Realmente muito bom. Gostei mais que o bad

One of the best ever!

banger

What am I supposed to do with this shit? I try so hard not to let an artist's personal life effect how I review their albums, but it's so hard not to think about it with Michael Jackson. Similar to how I had to Marilyn Manson's many allegations of domestic abuse, I'll soldier on. Obviously this album is incredible. It's not just that every song is good, virtually every song was a huge hit. This album begins with Wanna Be Startin Something, and that is one of the MINOR hits on this album. Any other album, that would be one of the most notable tracts, but by the time you get through Thriller, Beat It, and Billie Jean you forget all about it. This is unquestionably Quincy Jones's best work, and it's sad that so much of that is tainted by Micheal being a fucking pedophile It's a 5/5 album. It would be a lot easier to enjoy this album if Michael hadn't been everything that he was. but what can you do?

Awesome r&b/ pop album. Obviously this album is a bit tarnished by mjs late legacy, but it does not stop me from boosting to the album and appreciating it as a piece of music history

Ok so we are going to do the greatest pop album thats ever been made. Coolcoolcoolcool. Baby Be Mine has a couple wild transitions in the middle that caught me way off guard. The middle of this album is so stacked with hits that it is hard to ignore. I don't find it as good as Bad but better than Off The Wall if I had to do a shootout of MJ albums.

classic, very instrumental in advancing the music industry.

This is a great album

Melhor Música: Beat it

Saved Prior: Thriller, Beat It, Billie Jean, P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing) Not Saved: 9. The Girl Is Mine Saved: 8. The Lady in My Life 7. Baby Be Mine 6. Human Nature 5. Beat It 4. Wanna Be Startin' Somethin' 3. Thriller 2. P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing) 1. Billie Jean Overall Notes: No wonder this guy was a SUPERstar. He OWNS this album. Beats are so fun, performance is immaculate, I can't help but move to every song except the Paul McCartney duet, which was a little off-putting. Easy 5.

legendary album, probably one of the best ever produced, it's totally understandable why is it the best-selling one of all time. Outstanding production, legendary and unique vocal of MJ, versatile piece, one of my favourites and the best generated so far. No misses, just hits, 10/10

MJ, Paul McCartney, Eddie Van Halen, Quincy Jones, Vincent Price, and a couple of the guys from Toto walk into bar. The fuck did we think would happen?

5 stars for perfect album 0 stars for kiddy diddling

Incredible. MJ was a truly talented vocalist. RIP

Really, does it get much better than this?

The greatest selling album of all time. Released in 1983, the album had sold 32 million copies alone by the end of 1983. This is now incomprehensible in the digital, streaming music landscape we find ourselves in and will, simply, never be beaten. Alongside the units shifted, Thriller could lay claim to being the most influential album of all time, too. Every pop record since has tried to sound like Billie Jean. Pop stars couldn't now hope to make it big in the business without paying considerable attention to music videos and MTV airplay - Thriller broke the music video format and forced MTV to playing more tracks by black artists. Baby Be Mine and PYT set the template for R&B music. Beat It fused rock and pop in thrilling fashion. Throughout, MJ nails it with his incomparable vocal talents, honed by years of live performance. MJ was just 24 when Thriller was released. There is one excruciating moment on the record - the ill judged Girl is Mine has the listener mind boggled at the premise there is a woman out there besotted with both Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson, who sing about her in a limp, twee and corny style, deciding that a little improvised chit chat midway through the record would be fun. It’s not. It’s embarrassing for everyone. The best thing you could say for it is that MJ’s influence was so strong he could even get a Beatle on his record. That track and MJ’s troubled life almost docked this album a star, but it’s hard to discredit a cultural phenomenon and fail to acknowledge the enormous influence Thriller had on pop culture and, indeed, culture.

Classic! Somehow I had forgotten MJ did a duet with Paul McCartney.

Excelente

Undeniably brilliant pop. I'll never listen to it again, but can't think of a reason to deny it 5 stars.

Thriller is such an iconic album that it is almost difficult to separate it from the heights. That said, it is an incredible album and I think it firmly deserves its place in the top 25 or so of the most influential/significant albums of all time.

Thriller's all killer no filler

Wow. Haven't even pressed play, instant 5. That's three in a row, this list is on one right now. Of course I have this on vinyl. I gave Off the Wall a 5, knowing that there's only one album in MJ's catalog that I enjoy more. Thriller is a monstrosity of a pop album. Any listen to this album is just a test of whether I remember or recognize the three songs on here that I don't already know in my heart (which is the other six). One of the highest selling albums of all time, and for good reason. With any mention of Michael Jackson the discussion eventually turns to the nonce allegations, and tracks like "Human Nature" and "Pretty Young Thing" don't help keep things out my mind. But if you can live in denial for 42 minutes thing is loaded with bangers, like has anyone in pop made a song more potent than the titular "Thriller"? That song still gets the world hyped after 40 years. Can never defend MJ the man, but this album's GOATed. Favorite tracks: Thriller, Billie Jean, Wanna Be Startin' Something, PYT, Beat It, Human Nature. Album art: Iconic. The gatefold on the vinyl shows his other hand petting a tiger cub perched on his leg. This cover (and the album it denotes) will be known for generations. 5/5

Not much to say here. It's a classic album. Not a bad song to be found. I could nitpick some things about some songs but overall this album is just fun to listen to. It's great.

It is easy to see why this album is held in such regard in the music industry. It is full of chart-topping tracks and hugely influential deep tracks that influenced multiple genres from Rock to Rap through sampling. This album may be the most complete of Jackson's career.

Whether or not you agree with the accusations against him , this is one of the best ever Pop albums of all time. His sad life cannot be redeemed by this alone for sure but the music on here is at times beautiful and groundbreaking. Still one of the highest selling albums of all time. Love "Thriller" "PYT" "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'" in fact every track has it's merits. Great album rightfully here.

A fantastic album. Short sweet and full of classics

Come on, it's thriller baby

Second MJ album so far, after Bad. This was my original favourite when I was younger and Bad less so, and now it seems to have switched. The brilliant moments here far outweigh the occasional dodgy/dated bits.

Noooo that’s ignorant

Amazing start to finish.

Quality

Even the casual music fan can't deny the immensity of this album. Quincy Jones is the best.

12/03/2021 Today's Album: "Thriller" by Michael Jackson - This one is going to be fun. I love this album, but I am going to try to take a completely objective approach if its at all possible. Wanna be starting something is an energetic opener to this album, with a funky bass, tons of shakers and auxilery percussion, and of course Michael at what was pretty much the peak of his career spitting out great volcals. The colorful horns that are sprinkled around the track helps to shake things up and I like the extra vocals in the left channel. This song is also iconic for the chant around 4.5 minutes, which saying that I am reminded how long Michael's songs are. I would say the song drags on at the end but it really doesnt. The way the raw chant is isolated with the horns and percussion and then the beat is brought back to close things off is expert. Baby be mine is actually a track I hadn't heard before. It's a more low key track compared to most of the bangers on this album, but I actually think it lays out a really nice vibe and the chorus is so colorful with all of the funk instruments and the cowbell in the back. Michael as always has some of the best vocals around at the time and he is not holding back at all. The song doesn't really go anywhere too exciting but I thought it was solid if not just a little bit dragged out. The Girl is Mine with Paul McCartney is a great song. It's sort of silly the way the two are arguing over this girl, but it comes off as super charming and the backing instrumental is so soft and smooth it makes me float. Honestly a 10/10 song if you ask me. The way these two play off each other is amazing and they break up the song with the bridge in a way that makes the verses not get stale and I like when they just have a little chat before the ending vv cute lol. The next track is fucking Thriller. Like what tf am I going to say about Thriller its fucking Thriller. Okay now that I look at it the 2 tracks after are Beat it and Billie Jean, which are also like uncontested BANGERS so yeah i dont have much to say about them. Then Human nature is a nice come down from the excitement of the last track, with a ton of pretty and lush instrumentation just absolutely hugging Michael's voice. Another amazing track and one that I already love a ton. Then PYT is an exciting dance track with a ton of fun funky instrumentation and fun chipmunked vocals that have been sampled on a ton of songs. Super catchy chorus and extremely innovative for the time. Super great song to come right before the finisher of the album The Lady in My life. This song is a perfect way to tuck this album into bed after the insane highs it had gotten to. This album needs no review. It is Michael Jackson's magnum opus and in my opinion the most influential albums of the 80s. Score: 9.6/10 Masterpiece. Highlights: Every Song except Baby be Mine

This album is the pinnacle of pop and maybe music in general. Every song on this album is great. Pretty rare for an album to have every hit after hit like this one. 9.6/10

Heard most of the songs before! Short album completely iconic

Ah come on. I don’t need to do this. Anyway, in no particular order: Greg Phillianges; the red zip up jacket in ‘Beat It’; Ola Ray; Eddie Van Halen; Mr Quincy Jones; bunched up jacket sleeves; Paul McC genuinely relevant (even if not genuinely good) post Beatles; tiger print pocket square; Say Na Na Na - Na Na Na; Hot Rod Temperton; etc etc.

Niceee

Classic awesome pop that gets my feet moving.

The album.

Good, but what a nonce

Nine tracks and seven were hit singles. 80s pop distilled into one amazing album.

This album is a classic, and was the soundtrack for the entire early-to-mid 80s. Most younger people only remember the Michael Jackson who was a complete nut. But when this album came out, EVERYBODY listened to this album.

A classic. I'd forgotten how many excellent songs are on this album.

pretty cool. catchy song after catchy song. might have to listen to it again to really distinguish between them all

I dig it
