classic stuff

I mean, was there any other choice and 5 stars? Still probably the greatest pop record ever.

Unschlagbar!

one of the best albums of all time.

awesome idk what else to say

September 3, 2021 I had no idea so many songs I'd heard before were on this album - a classic pop record for sure!

Even the bad song is great

Classic album

A masterpiece

One of the greatest pop albums of all time

A classic

This is obviously a classic album and is absolutely stacked with hits. The production is incredible, and the arrangement has aged very well. However, I would be remiss not to mention that in light of the renewed allegations of child sexual abuse against Michael Jackson, it's difficult to listen to this music as a non-involved listener. I can't say for certain what did or didn't happen, but the persistence of these allegations is troublesome to say the least.

Looking at the track list, HOW is all of this on one album. Stacked.

Classic decade defining album

Great throwback, don’t remember if I went through the full album before.

Overall, a fantastic and groundbreaking pop album, with 5 of the 9 songs as super hits. PYT is probably my favorite on the album. The song Thriller itself should get special mention for the video, which changed music television forever.

There is a reason this is the biggest album of all time. And there is a reason he is the biggest star of all time. Incredible album, full of classics

Lets start with the single most successful album of all time. I have this on original release vinyl record!

Rating: 10/10 Best songs: all

Love this album, always have. Quincy Jones and MJ rule.

Was good

What a great album. Had never listened to the whole thing before. Every song is worthy to sing along.

perfect

Easy 5.

Obviously. This album is a top 5 for me.

bloody amazing

-Funky -Holds up over time -Unique songs

Just looking at the track list before listening this is likely a 5 😂 looks like it's got a lot of bangers.

Hit after hit after hit

Platinum 80s Album

Thriler, Billi Jean y Beat it de un disco de 9 canciones... like

Great time listening to this yesterday 🕺

Absolute belter of an album

Sailed through it. A wonderful album.

9 thumbs up

yeah easily one of the albums of the 20th century

Discazo. "The Lady in My Life"

Easily one of the greatest albums ever that should be a benchmark across popular genres on how to create a masterpiece product.

Micheal Jackson has just an otherworldly vocal talent. Half of this album is 8/5 stars and those are the songs you know. The other half is a solid 3/5. It’s just fun delicious pop. I’d probably say 4.5/5 but I’ll round up!

classics all around

🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

MJ is such a goat I saved 75% of this album. So many genres in a cohesive piece, all bangers

Amazing

This was one of my first favorite albums. It is so good from start to finish.

Don’t kid yourself this is a 5-star. Hard to separate the personality from the music, but I did.

Adding more words about this album can of be a worthwhile expenditure of time. Had the LP when it came out. Looking at the playlist again I was surprised at how long the songs were.

I have this album, like who hasn’t. As an artist he was extremely talented.

Anyone who doesn't give 5 is just ignorant...

Great listen. The Girl Is Mine is always a good listen. True classic.

I mean...

epic epic epic!

This is the jam. Hard not to have heard all of these songs hundreds of times. I never owned this album though so it was good to listen straight through. Classic.

Tons of classic songs on here. Enjoyed it way more than I thought I would

king stay the king

This album has many hit songs from the king of pop. What a fun album to listen to.

I mean come on. So many classics.

One of the best 3 track runs on an album

King of pop

Problematic artist, inspired album

What else is there to say about the king

An all time classic by the king of pop, already in my collection.

Genius

Brilliant

An all-time classic.

9/10 pretty sick album! i was a bit worried at first because of the mildly underwhelming opener and lame ass The Girl Is Mine (why the fuck are mj and paul mccartney competing for the same girl aint paul like 20 years older than mj is) but it picked up pretty quickly after. u already know how cool the middle three tracks are, but there are some kinda awesome deep cuts too!! human nature is super dreamy, and p.y.t. is rly slick and has some kinda weird vocal effects i didnt expect from 1982?? theres a REALLY sick synth in the chorus too, idk how to describe it but youll know it when you hear it. baby be mine is a jam too. honestly billie jean is in my bottom 4 of this album? most of this album is pretty solidly either a 9 or 10 but billie jean is bordering on an 8, the melodies are really really fucking good but it's a little spare for me. and yeah i probably wont be returning to the closer either. this could be a really solid album if a couple lame songs vanished from existance, never to return. lost to the void...FOREVER..................................... cool album

i’ve heard this before, almost perfect. i prefer off the wall though

Like half bangers and half boring ones that aged appropriately. But the bangers are certified classics so 4.

Love him or hate him, this album slaps. It's infectiously catchy. This album reeks of "the 80s" and yet it sounds unlike any other 80s music. Unless you've lived under a rock you've definitely heard some of the songs here, no matter how old you are. The drums and the bass definitely do a lot of lifting to make the songs in this album stand out, alongside Micheal's iconic voice. The song Thriller is definitely a standout for me. I've listened to it my entire life and yet it still sounds fresh. And of course we've got Van Halen absolutely shredding it on Beat It, cause why not, right? Micheal and the people involved know their people well, and everyone involved are absolute perfectionists, and it shows all the way through the album. 4.5/5 I think. Great album

Micheal Jackson was one of the best pop artists there was

Just insane good on a lot of levels. Well produced. Decently written. Great guests. About as good as pop for mass production can get. Pulling themes and sounds from Motown, disco, and even into a little darker soul for an outstanding mix across the album. 4+

Thriller to Human nature is 5/5, the switch from The girl is mine to Thriller is jarring.

An undoubted classic I was not interested in when it came out and have never been interested in it. To my mind, Billie Jean and Wanna Be Startin Something are the only songs that truly hold up. (The latter of which, tellingly, was actually written during production of Off the Wall, which I think has to be considered Jackson's peak, musically.) Never listened to this album except as singles on the radio. The Lady In My Life is a shockingly terrible song.

6.29.26 pretty crazy that half of the songs on this album are all-time classics. probably the most influential pop album of all time like. and i am, obviously, a fan of any and all paul mccartney, even at his cheesiest Favorite Song: Thriller Rating: 4.5/5

Damn, sometimes you forget why they called him the king of pop

Solid pop album, although the sequencing feels a little funky to me.

solid hits

I think it’s fair to acknowledge two things simultaneously: the album changed popular music forever, and the questions surrounding Jackson’s personal life are serious and unsettling.

Very good, short but sweet

So I've finally come back to the first artist I ever loved! I remember listening to Smooth Criminal from the age of like, 3! Weirdly though, it took until this challenge to finally come to approaching a full album, and to be completely honest... I don't know if I just wasn't in the mood, but I'm not too impressed to be honest. There are definitely great cores to each song, with Michael's voice being amazing throughout, but to be honest I found several songs, even Beat It (until the guitar solo) to get quite repetitive to the point I started feeling like the loop was almost missing something. The song with Paul McCartney was quite corny in my opinion, but it was an interesting idea. My favourites though were Billie Jean and PYT by far, which are both amazing songs. I don't know, maybe I'll have to come back to this, but I definitely think it was a bit overrated when looking at AOTY.

Great album, first time listen and plan to listen again

V good

Made polishing copper enjoyable

359/1001 Michael Jackson - Thriller Heard before? ❎ Revisit? ❓ The hits on this are huge and very enjoyable. The rest of it, on the whole are good. I've never really reached for a Michael Jackson record and whilst I did really enjoy it, I don't think I'd gravitate towards it.

Goated

The three big hits are huge, and carry the whole album. I'm not a fan of the other songs too much. But damn it's impossible not to dance when listening to this music.

I get it.

PYT (Pretty Young Thing) Baby Be MIne The Girl Is Mine Human Nature

Teehee

Look it's one of the most iconic albums of all time but I am once again applying the Nonce deduction policy. P.Y.T is a bit too on the nose. Fave track: Billie Jean

Astonishing that this album contains a song as perfect as Beat It and a song as appalling as the Girl is Mine.

Wanna be startin' somethin' - 4 Baby be mine - 3 The girl is mine - 2 Thriller - 4 Beat it - 5 Billie jean - 5 Human nature - 2 P.Y.T. (pretty young thing) - 3 The lady in my life - 3

Yeah it's classic MJ!

Not the biggest Mj fan, but thriller, beat it and Billie jean is an insane 3 song run

Definitely an iconic album with so many great songs. How many of these tracks can most of the world identify in just a few bars? Incredible. I do think the banter between McCartney and Jackson at the end of "The Girl is Mine" is real cringeworthy, but other than that, pretty solid. Highlights: "Beat It" and "Billie Jean"

Fajny, będzie częściej latał

This was honestly such a classic but still my first time listening to the entire album.

It's very nice, didn't like 2 but still an 8

Possibly the hardest album to enter with an unbiased viewpoint on the list. I did my best to tell myself I was listening to an R&B album by an artist I’d never heard of, but that only works so well. These songs are classics for a reason any way you cut it. Is it songwriting on the level of more rock adjacent albums? No, but I’ve always respected those who can create such timeless, catchy, infectious melodies. Personally, I always preferred MJ’s next two albums when songs like “Dirty Diana” and “Give In To Me” showed a rawer side. Still, this gets four stars from me. There is some inexcusable 80s cheese here and Sir Paul makes a bad song terrible on “The Girl is Mine.”

Would buy

It’s great, what else can you say. Paul Beatle even showed up and said hi. He’s a pedo though and the last three songs were boring ah

I have already discussed the contentious nature of Michael Jackson the person with "Off the Wall", so I won't discuss this further. Focusing on the music only, this album contains hit after hit. Four out of the eight tracks on this album are truly genre defining hits. One of which "Thriller" redefining the culture of the music video. The other four are hits in their own right. I would love this album if was only for the bassline to "Beat It." But that is what happens when you bring together amazing songwriters, super talented musicians and one of the most talented vocalists of the 20th century. 4.400

well ngl first albun of mj and i am lowk into it

Practically a best of! Very strong! Every song is an absolute banger. We'll most songs.... Ignoring the fact that The Girl is Mine is an absolute stinker and P.Y.T being very of its time it's a solid album

Bad, Beat it, Thriller, bangers de bangers. Pero Baby be mine y That girl is mine, 10/10.

The songs were amazing and they took me back in time

It's undoubtedly iconic. MJ's performance, vocal ability and merging of genres are at their pinnacle here with so many hits on one album. But where the album lags, it LAGS, and I unfortunately am not the biggest fan of his style (great as I know it is).

Mixed feelings looking back on this album which I appreciated in my youth, despite my disdain for pop at that time. Timeless songs and performances.

Obviously a classic. But “Off The Wall” is the better album. Sure “Thriller” has the hits but the album isn’t as cohesive and the Paul McCartney cut is underwhelming. This cannot be a 5 for those reasons.

Some good tunes

Full of some of the biggest hits of all time, but production is just a touch thin and "80s" sounding to get the full five stars.

You can't deny that the singles from this LP are some of the recognizable songs ever. The problem with all Michael Jackson LPS now is that they are somewhat tarnished by the revelations of his life and the activities that happened at the Neverland ranch. Billie Jean, Beat it, Thriller, Wanna be starting something, r enough to give this four stars but the rest of the songs can be taken or left

what else can i say that hasnt been said about this album before

Favourite tracks: Billie Jean, Remember the time

Fav song: Billie Jean

Banger after banger after banger...a classic. 4.75 rounded down to a 4.

Unfortunately, Michael Jackson made some great music. Banger after banger. If I'm evaluating purely based off the music, 4.

Got this album on the same day I read an essay decrying the whitewashing of MJ in his recent biopic. I have never looked into the accusations against him in detail, but as a rule, I believe victims, especially kid victims. I don’t think you can understand this music without paying attention to the fact that this was a very hurt human who also hurt other people very much. And as when I got “Bad,” my attention goes back to: what exactly are the conflicts in MJ’s songs about? My son when in the car as I listened, and he asked me, “What kind of creature is Thriller about?” Heck if I know, but surely it’s some version of MJ itself. And: “Who does he want to beat it?” Same story. Even when you listen to a song like “Scream” — generally understood as a response to the scandals — it sounds like something more complex and self-directed is going on. I used to love this music. Today I am more detached. I like that my son knows what “Thriller” is, but I don’t want him to even know who MJ is. I don’t want to offer even a hint of an apology. If I ever realize my long-imagined research project to understand his significance, it will have to be about who we all are that we let this happen among us, not about the man himself. I still can’t look him in the eye.

What to tell about Thriller? The bestselling album of all time. One of the most praised albums ever, by Michael Jackson, the King of Pop. And still, I don't get the profound respect some people have for this album. For sure, it's a pretty decent album... more than that, it's really good, a very enjoyable record. But it's not flawless, it's far from being perfect, and it's a very 80s album, for the good and the bad. So, first things first, the album doesn't have a great opener. It kicks off with a very danceable, up-beat track. Sure, it starts building the atmosphere, but it's a song that is not impressive. It's, again, a very 80s song. Also in the way it is unnecessarily enlarged until it becomes pretty repetitive. I understand it was a thing of the 80s, such a common practise, but it's the first flaw I can find in this album. Many songs are enlarged without an actual purpose. Does it imply the songs are bad? No, for sure, but some songs are not that great to really "deserve" to have their choruses repeated twenty times. Billie Jean is an example of a great song in which that repetition does not distract, does not become an issue. But other songs really suffer from that. And another issue I can find is how outstanding some songs are. There is a moment in the album in which even the production seems to change, the funkiness and the ballads stop to open a new section: the greatest hits. And it's something very noticeable. It's great to have those tracks, but they make the rest of the album feel smaller. And that's not something that favours the listening experience. So, it is such a great record, all the songs are pretty nice, and some are really big, actually, even atemporal if you will. But there are, for sure, better parts than others. Anyway, it is such a funny and pretty enjoyable album to listen to.

almost five, a couple fillers

South Park really ruined Jackson for me (well, that and the allegations) Still, even if the whole thing has a shadow over it and at times as aged pretty badly (the 80s tones that is), damn if these aren't some amazingly produced and written songs. There's barely a wasted note (except maybe Macca and Michael arguing about a girl)

Michael's music has never truly been for me, in the sense that it's not something I would throw on to listen to on my own, but I cannot deny it is good! Listening to this album all the way through was enjoyable. He really did just have it!

9 / 10

My 7 year old self loved this album. Listening to it now I realize some of these songs are terrible, like The Girl Is Mine. Still has several great songs, though.

This is the first album I ever bought and released on the week I was born... The talent of Quincy Jones can not be understated. The song writing is impeccable. The song with Paul McCartney is an abomination. I assume the lyrics aren't by MJ or they would be about Choo Choo trains and playing with wee boys and monkeys. This is probably the pinnacle of pop. MJ has a voice that will span many generations to come. He will always come with a caveat. Unfortunately there are two stinking ballads on the album.

A point of contention between myself and the wife is I don't love MJ music. I still recognise it's good, just don't love it.

He's got some good bops, but this comes down to personal taste

it's a classic, idk how i hadn't listened to it in its entirety before today. 4/5 :)

Excellent, consistent pop tracks.

One of the all time top releases of my youth. Owned this one on album. Definitely some of the tunes come across as a bit dated / 80s today. But still just a bunch of monster hits. 4.5

4/5 Lots of amazing songs but there are some songs I didn’t like. Favorite Song: Billie Jean or Human Nature

Its a fun listen but its really abouth it. "Billie Jean" is a 10/10 song. I think this album suffers of the same thing all a pop album suffers of. Wich is filler songs. Their not that bad here but you know... Its still fucking fillers.

It’s a fairly perfect record with multiple bulletproof singles. Slight docking of points for the inevitable context created with modern ears and a problematic legacy

This was a classic then and is a classic now. Five out of nine songs were hits. The rest weren’t great, but would’ve been reasonably good for any other musicians albums.

So many iconic songs. The Paul McCartney duet really was a stinker, but the bangers buoyed everything else enough.

I did not think anything of Micheal Jackson before this. Maybe it’s just because he is “trending” right now, but I find myself absolutely loving his music. It’s getting me completely jazzed.

On the Rowling scale this album gets a single star but musically it's always a thrill.

Interesting how the three singles I know and love are all back-to-back on this album while the rest I had never heard before. There are some other hits on here, but some flops as well. The Lady in My Life felt like a weak closer, but I think I could've liked it more at a different spot in the album. Probably will give this 4 stars for the bops.

Michael Jackson - Thriller I don't really consider Thriller a 5-star album for a few reasons, though I probably wouldnt argue with anyone who thought it was. It's inarguably huge and influential and the quality is top notch. But there are a few things that make it impossible to get to the top. The biggest is: The Girl is Mine. How two of the biggest artists in the world could write such an unequivocally terrible song is confounding, especially since Say Say Say is perfectly fine. And yet… and yet. Then there are the two (yes, only two) non-hits. Both are absolutely fine, neither would feel like filler on an album that wasn't Thriller, but they still chip away a bit. And then there are the hits proper… PYT is fun, but it feels rushed. Human Nature is lovely but a little heavy handed. And the title track? Well, this is blasphemy maybe, but it works best with the video. The video is what made that song huge, and rightly so. But if that video never existed, it would not be the mega hit it is. And the video is not on the album. That all said, I also don't know that I would trust someone giving this less than a four. It's probably closer to a 4.5. It lives up to its hype most of the time. Again, the non-singles are still fine songs, and there aren't many of them. Thriller is a silly conceit but does have an absolutely killer groove behind it. Billie Jean is timeless, Beat It rips, Wanna Be Starting Something is the platonic ideal of a dancefloor packer. This album is the reason later Jackson albums have no curation… no one is gonna tell the man who created Thriller that maybe he's wrong about his musical direction

A classic

Better than the last one that I heard

still baffling to me how similar beat it sounds to weird al's eat it but i guess the world is just ok with that?

Classic album. A rare album where the singles are the skips due to being played endlessly in our day to day.

Thriller Beat it Billie jean

Classic record. I know it super well so I tried to listen to the lyrics mostly. Not great.

Definitely a 9/10 but something in me prevent's it from being a 10

listened to while dancing and cleaning up my room so good?

It’s fine . Some absolute classic songs but a few ok ones

This album is a mix of some of the best pop singles ever and some really generic bubble gum outdated songs. 3.5 but I'll round up to 4.

king of pop. triple of thriller, beat it, and billie jean in the middle of the record

Pretty damn iconic pop album, I can see why the singles were chosen as singles but so many interesting motifs you can see in pop music today 4.5

Heard it

First time listening to Mickael Jakson fully and expanding my knowledge than just knowing the most famous ones. Listening to more than 'Beat it', 'Thriller' and 'Billie Jean' was so nice! I would not call it a perfect album as for my liking, but perfctly 7/9 of the songs are a 5 out of 5 for me!

Some of it is fantastic, some of it really hasn't stood the test of time. But its number one on my top 10 albums by dead paedophiles.

LOVED IT :D

4.5 Very, very, very good

Problematic dude but can't deny how great this album is

Some of the best songs of all time. But is it a perfect album cover to cover? Can’t give it a 5 but it’s better than a 4.

Loved this, must have listened 3 times over. Would be 5 star but I took one away because of how lame "the girl is mine" is

Songs I was familiar with were great. The ones I haven't heard were not as good and would be skipped to get to the good stuff

Overall, I’d give this album a 4/5; with enjoyable and memorable melodies, fairly well-written lyrics, and next-level 80’s production, this album is a great snapshot of pop music in the 1980’s, and still holds its ground today. Aside from the iconic place the album and artist hold in history, the musicality is something to be admired, with Jackson, Jones, and the members of Toto working together to create a piece of popular art, and Van Halen’s cheeky solo on “Beat It” solidifying its place in rock history as well.

Smooth smooth smooth album, just don’t absolutely love it on my first full listen

Classic for a reason, the 3 track run of thriller into beat it into billie jean is up there with the best. I think the girl is mine is overhated and is better than a few other songs on here 4.5

I do really like this album. It’s popular for a reason and it sounds great. I own this record and listen to it a lot and will continue to do so.

Favorite track(s): Wanna Be Startin' Somethin', Baby Be Mine, Thriller, Beat It, Billie Jean Heard before Previous rating: 7/10

His most iconic and my personal favorite of his discography. The flow throughout the songs just perfectly harmonize with the melody that he goes for throughout the album.

good album but it drags on a little bit the slow songs are weak points 3.5 stars

The singles really do stand out above the rest of the songs here by a large margin, but that's not to say the deep cuts weren't enjoyable either. It was my first time hearing them and enjoyed them for the most part so I'll for sure be returning to this. Really crisp production, amazing vocals, catchy hooks... There's just a charisma to it that is hard to beat. 4/5

Some bangers on here, but not into the slower 80s sound.

y excelente qué mas se puede decir?

HOP OFF THE GIRL IS MINE paul mccartney i will defend your honor

8/10. classic

Review - this is a lot better than Bad. It's making me realise I have no idea where different MJ hits fall in his career. Thought this and Bad were basically the same era but they're about 5 years apart? Anyway, Thriller, Billie Jean, and PYT make a great album regardless of any other songs. Rating - 8/10 Need to hear? YES

Banger after banger. Def like the energetic ones more than the slow songs tho

genuinely such a classic album, amazing hits like billie jean and pyt. maybe not entirely my tastes, as most songs aren't gonna end up in my playlist, but i can understand why mj became as big as he did

Over half of this album are absolute hits and it was fairly impossible to avoid this for a long period of time. Ten year old me is pretty psyched, but in 2026 there are some things that stand out. More noticeable on the non-hits is the production. It sounds so early 80s. The Quincy synths sound pretty dated to these ears. It's laughable that Macca and Michael were beefing over a girl. But there's the EVH solo and riffs. You can't hear Thriller and not think of Vincent Price or the zombie dance. All in all a solid album I'll never listen to in it's entirety again. Justice for Leon Kompowsky.

A classic for a reason, its got all sorts of funk to it that u don't see much of these days and its just all-round good, its Micheal Jackson that alone says alot

Iconic album, and I prefer a lot of the smaller songs to the hits, the hits are great ofcourse but there are some other gems on here. 1. Human Nature 2. The girl is mine 3. The Lady in my Life

This album is pretty solid. I don't really understand how The Girl Is Mine made it onto the album, yet alone being made the first single. And I'm going to be completely honest, this may be controversial, but I'm never like P.Y.T.

great album with someones of the best singles in the history

Classic

hit after hit after hit

I'm not a huge fan of Michael Jackson but I really like this album

4.0 Firstly always try and separate the art from the artist. Admittedly I can't always do that. For some reason with MJ I can, the potentially bad logic being that it was after his peak years he went off the rails. Anyway. A seminal outing, but perhaps overplayed in my youth. Lots of hits, but the album doesn't feel as cohesive as it would do. The singles sound a bit disjointed and are mostly plonked one after another. The deeper cuts are better than I remember, Baby Be Mine and the closer are pretty decent. Title track I've never got fully on board with, feels like a gimmick. Very good album, but not entirely sure it's his best.

Absolutely PERFECT voice for pop. The album starts off funky and poppy and dancy and then Human Nature comes on and I transcend. I'm only giving it 4 stars because I don't see myself listening to the album on the regular. But I added Human Nature to my playlist.

ICONICCCCCCC

Great album. I saved 5/9 songs.

vabbè adoro, michael jackson icona sempre

-wow is this a fun album -not only iconic and well-known but such a fun listening experience Fav: Beat It like duhhhh

I want to give it a 5 because it’s my childhood memories and some of the songs are beyond amazing but I don’t actually love every song and ya know…..

It’s really good. The problem is that the hits, at least in my opinion, are a good chunk better than the rest. And the song Pretty Young Thing makes me feel gross knowing… information about MJ. Normally I can separate the art from the artist and all that, but come on man. He’s saying “Pretty Young Thing.” Thats weird.

Overall it’s a great album with some fantastic songs. Not a fan of Human Nature and although The Girl is Mine, is melodic, its lyrics and performances are undeniably cringy, so a 4 for me.

Although I'm not a massive fan of Michael Jackson, I do like several of his songs and most seem to be on this album. This album contains some classic tracks.

Some of the most danceable hot of all time. The only reason this doesn’t get 5 stars is because of that terrible floating turd “the girl is mine.” Whose idea was that?

9/10 banger alert weewooweewoo She’s just a girl who thinks that I AM THE ONE

I love that it goes from a song where Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney clearly want to have a threesome with each other straight into Thriller.

this was the album of my parents generation. my mom can still vividly recall the day she saw the thriller video released in DC. paul mccartney disappointed me on his song

The hit singles really are hits but the rest of the album was not quite at the same level for me.

Hmmm. Men fan.

Great classic.

This is a great album. Every song on it could be the best song on a different album. And I love a Paul McCartney feature. Four stars. (Favorite track: Billie Jean.)

There is no denying the outsized cultural impact of this album. When the "Thriller" video was released on MTV it was an event. Michael went from a superstar to a mega super star. The good songs on this record are good. There are some forgettable tracks, but the Michael Jackson phenomenon was more than just the music: it was the whole aesthetic.

The heart of this one is unparalleled in the dance pop realm. Favorite track: Beat It

This brought back some memories. Who can forget how popular some of these songs were. And with such memorable videos on MTV! I'd forgotten some of the songs on Thriller; it's clear why this is a classic.

This is some amazing pop music. Great, catchy songs. Good compositions and production, even though 80's pop is not exactly my favourite. But most of all, Michael Jackson's vocals are unbelievable. Obviously some of the songs are extremely popular, like "Thriller", "Beat It" and "Billie Jean" (amazing song run, by the way). This record has the formula for an excellent pop album, so I'm not surprised it's the best selling of all time even if it's not exactly to my taste. By the way, every time I hear "the kid is not my son" in "Billie Jean", that one meme in Spanish comes into mind. "¿Tú quieres una manzana?" 4/5 for personal preference, but I think it's a fantastic pop record.

Strange feeling is to realize i never heard this album in full before. Well, it's definitely good, but not as good as 90's Jackson.

Buen comienzo, mucho hit. Igual discazo

Docking this a point for the girl is mine, some great singles though

Tämä klassikko levy putosi ainoastaan hittiensä, ”Thriller”, ”Beat It” ja ”Billie Jean”, muuten aika tasapaksuja biisejä. Noi hitit on kyllä todella hyviä!

A Quincy Jones production perfection. Pretty much every song is a banger. Youd be living under a rock if you havent listened to this. Fun fact: Human Nature was written by yacht rock legend Steve Porcaro from Toto. QJ heard the demo and loved it, and MJ ended up recording it. Also Eddie Van Halen plays the guitar solo on Beat It. Theres a Paul friggin McCartney duet. And one more gem: Vincent Price does the speaking track on Thriller. What an album.

Never been a fan of a couple of these songs but the rest of the world disagrees with me. But I do really like most of the album

An impactful, legendary classic of an album that truly deserves its flowers. Just about every song had the capacity to be a massive hit. His mellow songs are just as good as the more upbeat dance tracks.

I don't think I had ever actually listened to this cover to cover. I had one of his greatest hits records back in the CD era and spent a lot of time with that instead I guess. I thought this would be an easy 5 but I found it to have enough slight ups and downs that I don't want to give it a perfect score. Obviously it is a monumental record, but nothing gets obligatory 5s from me just for being important.

Of two minds: 1 -- If you aren’t paying the prince of pop his due for his magnum opus what game are you playing here? 2 -- The Girl is Mine and The Lady in My Life are both bad in a very regrettable way. I think if you just cut those songs I'd give this a 5. I guess Nick had it right by sticking to the Greatest Hits album, in this case.

Fast perfekt

It's a classic for a reason. The run of Thriller through PYT is kind of insane. Human Nature is a beautiful song; I wish this album had one more introspective song like that, but I respect that it's a tight 42 minutes of mostly upbeat dance songs. Very approachable album for being ~such a big deal~.

Very catchy. Didn't realise how many hits were on this one

heehee

3/9 bekannt 7,5/10 Beste Songs: Beat it, Billie Jean, thriller

My favorite Michael album! PYT is a stand-out track for me.

I need to remove my opinions about Michael Jackson’s personal life in order to review this album because it’s really about the music and there’s some really great music here. Starting off strong with Wanna be Startin’ Somethin’, you can immediately hear that the production quality is fantastic. The lyrics are a bit odd. It’s at times inspirational and at times just kind of really dark so it’s a bit of a question lyrically for me. But it’s really fun to to listen to with what I hear to be a Latin inspired sound with the horns it’s a really fun song. Moving on to Baby be Mine. It hits me right away that it sounds like a Luther Vandross track and I kind of wish it was. I like this song and Michael sings it well, but the style of it I think would be better in Luther’s voice. The Girl is Mine. Ugh. Why? Two great artist together on a stupid song. Moving on to Thriller the title track which is iconic. Combined with the accompanying video it’s groundbreaking. The production on this song is amazing love it. Beat it is another iconic pop song bringing a little bit more of an edgy rock sound for Michael Jackson. Really great song and became an 80s anthem. Oh Billy Jean. This song really bugs me as a woman. Playing into that old trope of the scheming women just out to trap a man. It’s hard to like. Objectively it sounds good but the lyrics stink. Human nature is a really beautiful track. It’s really beautifully mixed I love the production on it. It’s really nice to listen to however, when you dig down into the lyrics you realize this is a really beautiful song about a guy who just wants to hook up and justifies it that it’s just the way human nature. It doesn’t ruin the song for me that the lyrics are a little ick. It makes me wish that this beautiful song spoke about human nature in a different way. Maybe a missed opportunity to make a really impactful song. Before I revisited the track, PYT, I just thought in my head out of memory that I kind of liked it and remembered it was catchy. But, I realized really quickly that the lyrics really gave me the ick. My knowledge of Michael Jackson’s problematic relationships with children creeped back into my mind. Hard to avoid with these lyrics. Some of the backing vocals like the loud grunt is just weird and it made this song really cheesy so not my favorite. The last track the lady in my life is just a full cheese fest and I didn’t really like it. I don’t usually go into this much detail on my reviews but this album is such an iconic album and revered as such a masterpiece that I really wanted to kind of deep dive, and we familiarize myself with each track. I think production wise this a masterpiece in pop music. Lyrically overall, I give it a C. I think Michael Jackson is a gifted vocalist and can move his voice through his songs in a beautiful way. Personally his voice does not resonate with me in terms of emotional connection. I find his voice thin and lacking depth.

Decent 4. This is an iconic album. So many great songs on here and the production is amazing. It’s very nostalgic; I had many dance routines to songs on this album. I also feel that this album has influenced modern pop significantly. With that being said, there are definitely some songs lyrically that I don’t connect to. My faves are “Wanna Be Startin’ Something” and “Thriller.”

For the most part, this is a really good album. I’ve Al sways thought The Girl Is Mine was a stupid song that doesn’t for on the album. And the title track sounds good but I do t like the juvenilelyrics and the cheesy sound effects. However once you hit Beat It, the rest of the album is awesome. Billie Jean, Human Nature and PYT are all great and I think The Lady on My Life is a nice ending to the album.

hit after hit lowk

This album is like most of Michael Jackson's albums, there are some MASSIVE hits and the rest is just blah. Still, the hits on this one are iconic, plus anything with Vincent Price gets a couple extra stars.

Michael is not my favorite. But this album you have to rate at least a 4. It's history.

🥇pretty young thing 🥈beat it 🥉human nature HM: wanna be startin somethin, baby be mine, thriller, billie jean

What can I say that hasn't been said? I'm putting it in the high 4's, but we're gonna round that down for all the... you know.

Listened Before?: Yes Pros: God this album really is banger after banger. Cons: Human Nature lol.....just not a fan of that song Songs Added to Playlist: Wanna Be Startin' Somethin', Thriller, Beat It, Billie Jean, PYT

All Killer. All Thriller. Absolutely legendary. Except I have an irrational dislike for "the girl is mine".

Took a star off for The Girl Is Mine. But what an album besides that!

Poppy, catchy, groovy, and funky, lots of great hits on here and as an album it was still enjoyable. 8/10, Favorite Song: Billie Jean

This good for morning homework and wake up for good mood of all day

It's Michael Jackson. I love the song Human Nature.

Even with some filler you can’t deny the thrills.

Feels weird not to be adding Thriller to the playlist when it's the title track but..... it's not my favourite! Think this is a 3.5. When it's great it's great, but when it's not it's.... just fine. What is that Paul McCartney song all about please Songs added to playlist: - Wanna Be Startin' Somethin' - Beat It - Billie Jean - P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing)

Impressive resume for this album: best selling album of all time, with 7 of 9 songs reaching the top 10. Great job. But personally I didn't love it, and I'm rating everything on here subjectively, so this ends up right on the line between 3 and 4. The synth-heavy 80's pop sound never worked for me, but some of these songs are saved by being catchy as hell. Specifically the Thriller/Beat It/Billy Jean run is good enough that I enjoy them despite the vibe (although whenever I hear "Beat It" I wish it were Weird Al's "Eat It," but credit to the source for being a fun song in its own right). The rest of the album I'm happy to never hear again. I guess we'll go with a 4 out of respect for that trio of songs, but barely. 3.5

A lot, lot better than Bad, some of his best songs on here. A couple of duds - I mean, Pretty Little Thing didn't age well at all l, did it? Never been a fan of Billie Jean either. But everything else I enjoyed - even that one with Paul McCartney isn't anywhere near as bad as other people make it out to be. A high 4.

Should be 4.5 because, let's face it, The Girl is Mine and Lady in My Life are not good songs.

Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney collaborated on Thriller, I didn't know that was real. It's also the worst song on the album. How are any of those things true? Undoubtedly some legendary stuff on here, having this all release at the same time must've been insane at the time. 'Beat It' really made me miss when guitars existed in pop music, remember when pop music had guitars? I don't I was born in 2006. Purple Rain is charting in the top 20 rn lmao 'Billie Jean' is emptier than it existed in my head, I really thought there was more going on instrumentally from the times I've heard it before, his vocals being tight and clean aids in that feeling too. This was the first time I'd given my full attention to 'Pretty Young Thing' too, and it's convinced me that the perfect way to experience this album is in the background at a bar. He's reaching the tip of his vocal range and doing vocal exclamations to make the otherwise standard pop structure feel fresh but he's being held back by the overly clean production. So in conclusion Baby Be Mine is the best song on Thriller. :)

THRILLER (day one): Rating: 8.9 FAV: Baby be Mine, The girl is mine

Some absolute all timers on here, but also some average songs. Incredibly groovy, so much so that it inspired me to pick up my bass guitar for the first time in years! PYT makes me cringe terribly, even if the music is awesome.

Fun album, decent amount of substance, but not my fav. I can see why people rate it so highly, but it doesn't quite work out for me.

It's honestly ridiculous that Wanna Be Startin Somethin, Thriller, Beat It, Billie Jean, and PYT are all on this album. I thought for a while about whether this deserves 5 stars. Ultimately I think this is probably the benchmark for a pop album and still sounds amazing 40+ years later. Timeless.

A classic, what specially interested me was the iconic music videos, its references are inescapable in pop culture even today.

Almost good enough to forgive the alleged noncery

Say what you want about Michael Jackson, but he was one hell of an entertainer. This album was the one that really brought him to everyone's (including my) attention, and made him a world-wide star, though it could be argued that was as much down to the phenomenal music videos and dance routines as anything else. With seven out of the album's nine tracks hitting the singles charts, including the titular "Thriller", "Billy Jean", "Wanna Be Startin' Something", and "Beat It", this was an album that exploded, and in my opinion rightly so. But... In retrospect, it feels a bit dated. It feels like it's still holding on to the disco wave of the 70s to some degree, and it's just not hitting the right buttons for me. Definitely a good album, but I can't give it more than 4 stars.

Undeniably an all-time great pop record with so many memorable hits. It's not really my type of music, but even I can't help but find myself getting way into most of the tracks on here. The only thing keeping it from being a 5 are some of the slower tracks, particularly "The Girl is Mine" which I found pretty bad. 4/5

I'm so close to giving this 5 stars. I'm not a fan but do recognize his talent. The thing holding me back from a 5 is that between the all time great songs are some duds that were written by other people. That's not to take away from the vast talents he has but those songs just bring it down a whole notch. Kinda like what Buddy does to the Elf choir.

how did I not know that Paul McCartney was on this

I have a lot of love for this album of my youth. Nearly perfect pop music, though the last song is skippable.

What an album! I already knew all but 2 of all the songs already, a lot of classic MJ

- he aint called king of pop for nothing - quite literally got up and boogied

Only wasn’t familiar with a couple of the songs

Höhepunkt(e): The Girl Is Mine und die bekannten Klassiker Tiefpunkt(e): Keine Rating: 8/10

This is objectively good but I've listened to thriller 100 to many times

It’s just never really clicked. I recognize how insane this collection of songs is, and I don’t know if I can think of another artist whose arguably 3 biggest hits are back-to-back on an album. But the MJ squeals, signs and grunts just piss me the fuck off. In my heart this is a 3 but I’ll give it the bump out of respect. JAMON

Oops all bangers. Side one does lack a little bit though.

I enjoyed the hits

I so want this album to just keeping with the energy of Wanna Be Startin Somethin', close, but it's not like he couldn't have done it. I count it as 5 great songs, Human Nature included, Thriller not, and Billie Jean is one of those transcendent brilliant songs that's just in a class of its own. But The Girl is Mine? Shudder.

This album brings me back to middle school. My friend burned me a copy of this CD and I listened to it A LOT when I was maybe 12 or 13. I'm not an MJ super fan by any means, but when you have only a few CDs they end up getting lots of listens haha. I do think this is a great album and has no bad tracks. Crazy to think that Thriller, Beat It and Billie Jean are all from the same album. I've heard those songs a bit too much to enjoy them anymore (except Thriller - still iconic), so I now prefer the rest of the album. People are slandering The Girl Is Mine in the reviews, but that's one of my favourite songs from the album. I think it's a fun duet and I'm a big fan of Paul McCartney. I would give this album a five because I think it's objectively very good and it's nostalgic, but Michael Jackson weirds me out so I'm giving it a four.

Low 4? Not a big MJ fan but obviously a huge record. Feels more like a greatest hits than a cohesive record and I love Paul but the duet feels out of place

What else to say as this is iconic. Love the production from Quincy Jones, too.

Phenomenal album, although i do prefer Off the wall

Might have made it to 5 if not for that cringey duet with Paul McCartney

The Girl is Mine The Lady in My Life -1 Every other song's a banger.

Not a no-skip album, but still damn good.

The hype is valid

-1 for The Girl Is Mine

All bangers. Didn't realize all of these songs came from Thriller. Listened to nearly all individually as singles.

Exquisite production by Quincy and the vocal harmonies are immense. The best use of a minimoog on bass ever. The worst song on this album was cowritten by Paul McCartney!

A lot of classic MJ songs.

Listened to it b4 but didn't catch "Baby be mine" wich was the greatest surprise of this relisten. Even though it has thriller, beat it and billie jean back to back to back im keeping my 5's to the no skip albums.

Jackson wanted to create an album where “every song was a killer,” and I think he did. That said, this feels more like a collection of hits than a coherent album.

Yea it's a 4
