Reviews (page 6 of 14)

So much cool, weird stuff on here. One of my favorite 60’s projects yet. I can definitely see why this is such a loved classic. I’ll have to come back to this a few more times soon; I expect my appreciation to only grow the more I return. 1 listen Favorite Track: Light My Fire

Expectation: -> A classic album. Looking forward to this. After listening: -> I don't have a list of my favorite 1967 songs, but if I did I'm pretty sure that Light My Fire and Break on Through would be top-5. Those two timeless gems carry this album to a 4. Not in awe of the rest of it, but it's listenable. Track ranking: Fire Break Whisky Soul Crystal Fox Take It Looked Back Door The End End of the Night

finally some good 60s music. I think they do get better from this album but it's still really good

It was a good album with a lot of variety. Some real great songs there but also some that weren’t as good.

kinda sounds like the beetles, i enjoyed it

so strange for me. but it's good

Classic sounds of the 60s

Excellent riffs. Loved the nostalgia.

Echoing sounds, an album I will come back to

This was really good classic rock good singing

I'm of the opinion that Jim Morrison is a little overrated in the pages of rock history. I just never fully locked in with whatever vibe he had going on. Putting Morrison aside though, Ray Manzarek has been one of my keyboard heroes for a long time; his organ and piano make up the backbone of the band's sound on most songs and I'm here for it as the big reason I come back to this band at all. 8/10.

8.5/10 I love everything going on here but I especially liked 'The Crystal Ship', I think that sound works for them really well.

-Beginnung of the album less interesting, middle to end tho>>>

muy buen album, me sorprendio la cantidad ed hits y the doors como banda que solo tenia de nombre 3.5o4/5

Humoured, Joyous, Dancing.

7.5/10 Best songs: Break On Through (To The Other Side), 20th Century Fox, The End This album started very strong, but after a few songs the shine started to wear off. I'm an increasingly big fan of psychedelic/experimental rock, which is absolutely what the Doors are doing here, but it sort of gets repetitive/isn't as appealing as the album progresses. I have to say, though, if the entire album were like The End I'd probably consider it the best album of all time - outrageous, compelling, frustrating, passionate, enthralling. Nevertheless, the album is quite good.

Jim Morrison my beloved

They like that Hammond don’t they? 7/10

Great album do love The Doors even if Jim Morrison was a complete bellend

✌️✌️very 60s but I didn’t love the Alabama song - low 4

Oh this is the end dans Apocalypse Now

Love this! Have never listened to the whole album

Exceptional debut. So original, even now. Musically amazing, it can be deep and then whimsical.

Eerste indruk: Lekkere psychedelische rock. Best toegankelijk. Mystieke sfeer vaak. Nog eens de lyrics aandacht aan besteden

I prefer Iron Butterfly when it comes to extended organ pieces, but I can't deny I enjoy them when I listen to The Doors.

Absoluter Klassiker

So many excellent songs on the album.

Powerhouse of a debut album. Established the organ sound for the rest of their careers.

Rating:★★★★ Good album. Songs sounded a bit repetitive sometimes with the organ sound. Classic hits and a few new one's I haven't heard. Overall good.

4/5 Really enjoyed the songs but I would still skip some if I was listening to it on my own. Favorite Song: The Crystal Ship

My rating 3.6. What debut!

I can sometimes find myself impatient with The Doors, and it did happen at times with this album, but they have such a distinctive sound that you can’t help but feel nostalgia and appreciation at the same time. Break in through’s intro to the album is iconic, and within 20 seconds The Doors are in their signature funk carried through the whole album. This album reminds me of a Saturday night spent in Trisha’s, people clamouring over each other, half proven gossip spreading like wildfire, whilst the band unpretentiously carries on in the corner at their leisure. Alabama Song sounds like something out of a Wes Anderson film (maybe it really was on one of the soundtracks). Overall, the album lacks some variety, but it is a quintessential Doors listening experience and you will not be disappointed.

Had already heard this one but i feel way more receptive to it's energy at this juncture.

Would I listen again: yes I really like the organ throughout the album, tracks were groovy! Alabama song was a bit weird but also liked their strange lyrics

Rock music is like a human body; it should probably have organs.

Not bad! I liked it a lot at first but less so after a few listens.

L'album a vieilli mais moins que son âge réel, des chansons sont très longues sans vraiment ajouter quelque chose mais cela reste du classic rock, et du très bon

So many classic tracks

This album is a real mixed bag. The End is an amazing song. Break on Through (To the Other Side) and Light My Fire are fantastic....and then there's a lot of pretty paint-by-numbers psychedelic pop, e.g. Twentieth Century Fox, I Looked At You. Generally very good, but I wish they'd had better quality control.

Big fan

I actually got this album on CD in the 90s from my brother, so I've listened to it several times. I don't remember a few of the tracks, though, so I must have gotten bored and skipped that song, which sounds like something 15-year-old me would have done. Overall, this is a solid, classic 60s rock album that gives me a lot of nostalgia, but there are enough weird filler tracks to prevent a 5-star rating from me. Some of the tracks were weirdly long, and I really did not like the last track on the album at all.

Clássico.

I enjoyed this album. I have heard several songs previously but have never listened to the entire album. Lots of good songs and no real duds. Overall, I would listen to it again and possibly buy the album

Soft but fervent. I probably would have joined a cult for this album.

Never heard of them BUT I KNOW THIS SONG!!!! Break on through makes me think about Christ, but the verse about the gate made me look back, but its a very nice song. Good instrumentals and very 60s. 7.5 of 10 Soul kitchen reminds me of Hell´s Kitchen. A nice song, builts up a atmosphere of past midnight, but i dont know. 7.8 of 10 A very low on Crystal ship. A good melody and a lyric that makes me think of Jesus. Very ahead of its time. 9 out of 10 20th centrury is a nice song, i thought about LA for a minute. I would like to be like that, she seems cool(if i understood right). 8 de 10 I didnt understand Alabama, but the final is very good(the last seconds) 7 de 10 Light my fire is different and have a nice sound, but the lyrics are just not matching much with me, stills a good song. One of the longest songs. The riffs in the middle are the charms. 7.8 de 10 Back door man is about cheating, i can relate this to Basílio. Have a nice instrumental tho. 6.5 out 10 Makes me think of my walk with Christ in I looked at You! Remember me of another song in this album, but its nice. 7.5 de 10 Vessels of Glory and Fury on End of the Night. Calm vibes, i like it. 8.4 de 10 Take it as it comes have a nice lyric and a nice sound. A great final sound(for me). Eclesiastes e o tempo, uma coisa bem Salomão. 9 out of 10 A very 60s album, but with remarkable and inovative songs. It was a nice shot. 4.1

I've always generally liked The Doors, but having now listened to many other albums from this time period does deepen my appreciation for them. I can see why they really would have stood out at the time, they really had their own unique sound and style right out the gate. The songs do start to blend together a bit as they really have their gimmick, but still a very solid record overall.

I really enjoyed this one, more so than L.A. Woman.

It was very good but not a 5*, some songs are just OK

1967. Debut studio album. Has since been recognized as a landmark of psychedelic rock and one of the most influential albums of the 1960s. Robby Krieger had only been playing the electric guitar for a few months when he was invited to become a member of the band.

Always a classic

You know, I was pre-emptively worried that I wasn't going to like this.To a modern ear, most of the classics feel overdone and played to death. I've already been spoiled by many renditions over the radio. The doors, however, do feel like a breath of fresh air. They don't stick to one formulaic song beat: they experiment and let the music carry them onwards. Alabama Song is my favourite, it's just so -out- there. And the End isn't the 11 minute slog I was dreading it to be. But, it still suffers from some of the prosaic lyrics of the time. Overall though, quite good!

This is the end of our time with the doors for this list. It is indeed quite the debut. The song structures are varied and still pleasant to listen to. There is time for expansive dreamscapes and small straightforward rock. I do love me some driven organ sounds with frantic drums. And it all just works. The only song that took me out somewhat is the beginning of the alabama song.

An iconic album, and a debut album that almost defies criticism. However, taking off the rose tinted glasses, it almost as good as it's reputation. Some tracks are a little weak, and personally I find The End to be an overblown, overlong slog. Easy four star, but not the faultless classic that many claim.

Personally not my type of genre but the album was quite goid

sure the lyrics are overrated but this is still a great blues/pysch rock record

When I first started life under P2P and mp3 downloads, it was hard to find full albums organized in good quiality; eventually I found someone who had some Hendrix, Bowie and Floyd. The top 3 I listened to was Hendrix debut, DSOTM and this album. So many catchy songs, hilarious that this was such a contraversial and baned album back in the day. Almost perfect, a 4.4 for sure. I like LA Woman better

Solid album, classic

Fantastic debut album. Some real bangers. Soul Kitchen is an insanely underrated song. Alabama Song aged poorly but Jim Morrison isn’t alive to catch the heat so it’s fine.

Kinda Doors-y ya know. I'm kinda Doors-y. Vibes super fun and chill and I just gave Abba a 4.....

Really enjoyed it and think it flowed well as an album

My favourite album by them. Timeless

Chill music, with good taste. Remembers me to the music of breaking bad

Doors on Doors. Hyvin erikoista meininkiä, yhtäkkiä iskelmää, sitten taas rokkia. Aina tykännyt.

Very good. More upbeat than expected

Love da organ

Gran álbum, potencialmente el mejor hasta el momento, dicho esto, tampoco me fascina del todo. 8/10

So much better and fully formed than LA Woman it makes the latter feel like an aberration. Except for Riders on the Storm. That one still goes. Best: Break On Through, Soul Kitchen, Alabama Song, Light My Fire, End of the Night, The End.

This sounds hella evil. Not in a griffith or Anton chigurh way but in a sick Dracula way. I don't have much to say because I haven't been able to put my upmost attention to the album but "Light My Fire" is a pretty tight song. So far this is kinda somewhere in between the Beatles and the Police. Yep and I did not finish but it was lovely and I'll give it another chance on another day. I was going to write it earlier but in the songs of the middle of the album I swear that I could hear a "House of the Rising Sun" by The Animals vibe strung into it. I wonder if that was just the vibes of bands in the 60s or the Doors kinda just relayed parts of other music at the time into their stuff(wow it's almost as if that's what artists do) Anyways cool asf and it reminds me of Ace's friend Elliot who had a t-shirt of The Doors

Legendary. And probably only could have worked in the 60s. Great instrumentals, excellent vocalist, don't expect too much from the lyrics. The album falls short for me a few times and they're all due to Morrison trying too hard to be edgy. So...the usual for this band.

Great album but not as perfect as I think it is when im not actively listening to it. Still close to 5 but not there

I don't feel like I care much for later The Doors anymore, but I've still got a soft spot for this album, particularly "The Crystal Ship." Just an absolute banger of a rock album.

I know you’re supposed to like get a super legendary album every day on this site, but this is actually the first time I’ve gotten 3 absolutely insane albums in a row. So that’s fun! And this album’s awesome. Just some really great psych rock with some occasional insanity, most notably the closing track which DOES blow everything else out of the water. “Light my fire,” while a little overrated, does indeed astound, as does “Break On Through (To The Other Side).” The rest of the album is really awesome, very easygoing psych rock, which I enjoy and appreciate greatly. Overall an enjoyable affair, and an appreciated one for today’s listening experience. 9.1/10

Not a huge fan of The Doors, but I enjoy this. Some classics on here, and the rest isn't bad at all.

From an album I never heard of yesterday to one I'm quite familiar with today. I got this on CD back in high school. I revisit a handful of these songs a decent amount, but haven't listened to the album straight through in a while. I've always enjoyed the blend of soul, jazz, and psychedelic that the Doors had in their brand of classic rock. And that organ! There are definite highlights here -- Break on Through, Light My Fire, and The End (which is my favorite track instrumentally though the ridiculous lyrics take away from the overall experience for me) -- but each song plays it's own role in propelling the album forward and nothing feels like filler. Definitely somewhere in the 4/4.5 range for me.

Sometimes it's hard to believe an album is someone's debut because of how perfect it shows who the band/artist is

Really tough to rate. There is some insanely good songs here. The first two tracks, light my fire, the end I guess.. Feel like they belong on a 5 album for sure. But then it all feels a bit disjointed to me and it's definitely not as comfortable a listen through as I feel it should be. Would be a 5 for me if the through line /continuity feel was just a little bit stronger

Blues meets psychedelic pop and it works. Morrison was a weird dude. The later performances went off the rails but this album is pretty great.

Decent

Loved it

no sabia q era album debut!! no pasa desapercibido, me gusta, es interesante. psicodelico muchas favs

BREAKOUT. Crazy debut.

Classic album that is absolutely deserving to be on this list. I don't consider myself to be a hardcore Doors fan, but it's hard to deny the impact that their music has had on the world. And this album makes a for a great workday soundtrack. I'm glad that I finally sat down and listened to this one cover to cover.

I'm surprised at how much I liked this and realize that I need to listen to The Doors more often. Sure enough there are some deep tracks on the 2nd half that I'm totally unfamiliar with and almost all are a pleasant surprise. And of course there are a few completely essential tracks on here. Very good audio quality.

Nothing else like it in '67. Nothing like it still -

Weird the drums are panned hard left. Very atmospheric album. Whiskey Bar was not for me

😮‍💨😮‍💨

I think I liked Morrison Hotel more but this was still fire. The Doors have taken me some time to come around to but I get the hype now.

8/10 The Doors are an interesting band in that they almost have this quintessential 60s hippie rock sound, but it also has a slight edge of psychedelic darkness to it that became more prominent across their records. This debut record is probably their most poppy, but it still has that little twisted side that allows it to stand above more generic examples of the genre and have more of a lasting appeal, particularly when coupled with some really great hooks. In fact, this album is so stacked with songs that have timeless and engaging hooks that when we listened to this over family breakfast, Steph thought I'd put on a greatest hits rather than their debut album. They sure knew how to put a pop song together. That being said, while it's an really great record, for me it does have a few drawbacks to it. Firstly, there are times when it's a bit sloppy from a playing point of view, with slightly iffy timing and out of key notes scattered around here and there. While that does lend itself to the hippie vibe, it does get a little distracting in places. Also, they have a tendency to either be done with a song after two and a half minutes, or on the couple of occasions that they don't, dragging it on for possibly a little too long. Not that I don't like those songs, it just feels a bit all or nothing and could possibly have been a touch more satisfying had they met somewhere in the middle. Perhaps I'm nitpicking a little there. Apart from the above mentioned bits of playing, the band are generally great at building a solid vibe in each of the tracks, and that vibe does a great job of balancing the record and allowing Jim Morrison to do his thing. Interestingly, Morrison is actually quite restrained in his approach to vocals, leaving plenty of space for the band and rarely overdoing things, but also allowing for a good range of dynamic and intensity across his performances. His charisma and swagger are undeniable, even if his lyrical poetry is more moody sixth former than Dylan Thomas. But he sells it so well and I believe that he really believes in the art of what he's saying, even if I'm less convinced, but that's good enough for me. Break On Through (To The Other Side) - This has that very 60s hippie sound, but there's a twist if darkness to it too that gives it an interesting edge. It's the depth of the reverb and the slightly crazed delivery of the vocal from Jim Morrison that really do it. It's a classic track and holds up really well. Soul Kitchen - It's a slightly drifting and lazy verse that's full of that 60s hippy vibe again, before launching into something more intense for the chorus. The bass line is pretty good here and carries things along well, playing well against the rhythm of the organ. Another solid track. The Crystal Ship - Things remain more in that lazy, relaxed vibe from the verses of the previous track. There are some nice progressions in there and it has a cool attitude to it, but it's ultimately not the most interesting song. Twentieth Century Fox - Things pick back up again a little now with a return to the quintessential 60s hippie sound that makes it sound a bit like incidental music from and Austin Powers film. But it's got a great hook in the chorus. The playing, as with much of the record actually, is a little on the loose side, but it kind of works with the aesthetic. Another good song, but I always imagine it to be quicker than it actually is. Alabama Song (Whisky Bar) - Another classic now, and despite being a cover, it very much feels like it belongs to The Doors now. The switch in rhythmic emphasis and vibe between the verse and chorus is brilliant. It's a creepy little song in some ways, but that's delivered not only through the vocal but through the musical choices too, feeling a little like off kilter fairground music. Morrison gives it that side of menace through his delivery too, but it manages to do all that while also delivering quality hooks. Light My Fire - The Doors' most well known song? Possibly. The vibe is great, the organ and guitar solos are super cool, even if they do meander a tiny bit and aren't the cleanest performances, but everything gathers together to be more than the sum of its parts. There's some great drumming on this one too. But the key is that lead vocal, which is brilliantly delivered and has a fantastic hook. Back Door Man - This is a cover, but the band deliver it with such excellent swagger that the tone and delivery is all Doors. The organ line is great and again, they conjure up such a chilled and engaging vibe that it's hard not to groove along to it. Jim Morrison has just got an attitude and charisma that shines through on tracks like this. I Looked At You - The interweaving lines of the organ and guitar are great here during the verses and everything just hooks together for a fantastic chorus. They don't hang around on ideas for long though, do they? Great vibe, quality hooks and done in just a shade over two minutes. Great. End Of The Night - Back to something a little trippy and creepy. It's very evocative and the drifting nature of the tonal elements gives it an uncertainty that's really interesting. The crescendo of intensity is great and adds another level of weirdness and dynamic to the track. This is one that could possibly have worked even better in an extended version that had more time to ebb and flow, but it's solid nonetheless. Take It As It Comes - Another excellent chorus here. There's a good energy to this track but also some nice dynamic range too that allows that chorus to burst out of the speakers and really shine. And again, done in a flash. The End - When they decide to do a longer track, they do go for it, don't they? It's quite loose and meandering in places, with some of the playing feeling a tiny bit sloppy, but it all works into the vibe of slightly twisted and uncomfortable edginess. This has been noted as a pivotal piece of music for subsequent genres including goth, prog, psychedelic and acid rock. It's not really background music, but it's stuffed full of charisma and if you listen to this with focus, it can really grab you and press down on you in a very interesting way.

Gran disco. Entretenido, todas las canciones están bien. Tampoco creo que sea una maravilla, eso sí The End es increíble.

A classic 60's album. I love the heavy use of organ and Jim Morrison voice. Mostly good stuff. No filler. "Light my Fire" is such a great song. This song is were the organ shines the most on this album.

3.5 stars pretty good album. Only new light my fire and break on through previously. But really enjoyed The Crystal Ship and Twentieth Century Fox. Don't know how I didn't notice before but Morrison kinda sings like the guy from cake where he isn't really signing, moreso talking in rhythm.

increible álbum, estilo parecido a lo Beatles, lógico por la época, pero con sus diferencias. no es repetitivo ni molestan las canciones largas, gran guitarra y bajo.

I listened to this album a lot when I was a kid for some reason. Still love it.

Love the Doors!

Classic Album, everybody should listen to it but due to the age, the dynamic range is so so..

Pitchfork: Rolling Stone: Top 500 Albums #86 (2023) Best Songs Break On Through (To the Other Side) Soul Kitchen The Crystal Ship Alabama Song (Whisky Bar) Light My Fire The End

Honestly a really good album although this isn't the type of music I usually listen to, I quite enjoyed several songs on this track.

It's aged a bit for sure and online communities have made the prospect of liking The Doors a bit cringe, but this is an historic album.

There were vibes def a like dancing/doing hw if I could i would prob give 3.8

Iconic with good reason. Several deeply influential songs in quick succession, with the tracks bulking out the album complimenting their more successful siblings well. Admittedly The End was a touch gratuitously long (that is to say, blessed with a 10 minute run it struggles to do much with) and Light My Fire being somewhat shrill through my headphones (a personal limitation), but that only hurts the album slightly. Good show lads.

*Love they keyboards and the hit songs are incredible *Gets a little too proggy at times

It's 4.5 but not 5

Tätä on tullut kuunneltua jo kasarilla, kun luin Jimin ”No one gets here out alive” elämäkerran. Diggasin bändistä tuolloin paljon, nykyään tulee aika vähän kuunneltua. Tämä on hyvä esikoisalbumi, paljon hyviä biisejä.

What an opening track for your band. That and Light my Fire are the standouts here. I think this is and excellent, consistent debut album but doesn’t quite get to a 5 for me. You can really hear the Geese influence on some of these songs.

Legendary tracks separated by some drunken blues filler…I think these guys might do drugs…

Great!

Good reminder of how amazing oldies is.

wow i am so happy i was introduced to this album. that was really good and better than i was expecting.

4.5 stars or higher

Some classic songs and some decent songs as well. Morrison’s voice is iconic no matter what I think of the lyrics or his general personality. Extremely influential as well. All of those factors pushes it to 4 stars even though I’m not their biggest fan. Rating: 4.0

Not as put together as their later albums but The Doors are undeniable.

soul kitchen is a vibe i fw the psychedelic rock

One of my favourite 60s albums. Break on Through - Light my Fire - The End. Great edgy production. Note to Alabama Song - although I prefer Bowie’s rendition. Goes west lyrically on occasion - but no denying the genius of Morrison

Probably would give 3.5 if I could do halves but enjoyed more than the 3 star ones so giving it 4.

Chanson préférée : The End Mention honorable : End of the Night. Je pense pas que je connaissais, j'aime le coté trippy (et, bonus, M. Ray Manzarek se fait plus discret avec son instrument du démon).

Jim Morrison is horny. Ray Manzarek is playing the keyboard as if his life depends on it. and me? i'm vibing. hard. chansons préférées : Soul Kitchen, The End, Take It As It Comes mention honorable : le fait que The End soit la première toune a avoir été décrite comme étant du "gothic rock"… une décennie avant l’émergence du post-punk. talk about Jim Morrison being a proto-goth king #gothfather

What an album, still feels so modern and experimental but also so fun to listen to. Love the doors fr

Shockingly inventive at every turn. Light My Fire and The End are this album's crown jewels, meandering and amorphous as they are. The plush psychedelia is compelling without ever yielding to the rock cliches of the 60s.

Great album, some real classics on this one. Have listened to it before. Really enjoyed it.

Feel like i am in a wood paneled room and its dark outside and there is a lamp in the corner that has a deep yellow hue and the carpet is shag and these guys are playing right in front of me and also there is a majestic orgen in the other corner.

The sound of the Doors, to me at least, is quite singular in pop music. The driving sound of Manzarek's classic 60's electric organ, Krieger's oft-overlooked fantastic guitar playing and jamming, Densmore, also overlooked, great drumming. The music is great with this band, but also seems fixed in that era. And then of course the iconoclast that is Morrison, a great singer in his own right and a fine lyricist, perhaps a bit too self serious. Would have been interesting what time would have brought to this band had they not halted when they did. This album itself has some of their best, from Break on thru, to their classic Light my fire, and of course The End, played famously in Apocalypse Now (one of my favorite movies). I feel like this band (and Morrison) has had a big influence on rock-n-roll style and life. 4.

This album is really front heavy. The first seven songs are all bangers. Soul Kitchen has always been the standout for me. The other songs are fine and I don't mind The End as much as many other people seem to - but those last four songs definitely take it down a notch for me,

Great album, so much more acid organ than I remembered…

The Doors – The Doors (1967) On Day 78, The Doors finally brought back the soul and concept I’ve been looking for. The chemistry between the band is incredible, and it’s showcased perfectly during the long, experimental journey of "The End," which feels like a masterclass in musical tension. The blend of rock and blues throughout the LP is great, and I loved the jazz-infused Bossa Nova vibe of the title track. High-energy standouts like "Break On Through" and "Twentieth Century Fox" kept the iron hot, while the atmospheric depth of the longer tracks provided a real cinematic experience. This is great stuff, a definitive 4/5 with a strong possibility of growing into a 5 later on.

Kinda fun. Imagine was funny and better than Gal Gadot.

Perfect album for a rainy day

i wasn't sure what this album would be but im not disappointed. the shorter songs are great but the two long ones are a bit too long for me fav song: Twentieth Century Fox

>Produced by a Rothchild >Lead singer dies suspiciously Checkmate liberals

Iconic album. Such a great debut and some absolutely awesome tracks.

Favorite songs: Break On Through, Soul Kitchen, Light My Fire, The End

Heard a couple of songs off this record, lot of memories in the car with my dad with the big hits. Break on Through and Soul Kitchen are great. Good album especially for a debut. I was never a huge doors fan, but would recommend for people looking for this style and sound. 7.5/10

Cool album, but doors has a better records

My wife and I went to Paris on our honeymoon. My wife wanted to take in one of the most romantic cities on earth. I wanted to visit Jim Morrison’s grave. I found it in the maze of Pere Lachaise by following the sound of a very drunk Frenchman singing Doors songs. It seemed fitting.

7/10. Fav Track - Break on Through Some top notch dad rock

I really liked this one!

The Gypsies had no homes, and the Doors had no bass. Don't let that scare you, let that free you. Rounding up because The End and particularly its placement in Apocalypse Now is pretty cool.

The Doors’ debut is iconic even if I think only three songs really shine on this record. That’s not to say that every other song is bad or weak, but I don’t think the other material has as much of a stronghold as Break On Through, Light My Fire and The End. The latter two take up a good chunk of the 43 minutes and they fuckin’ bang to the bank. I guess if I had another song to note: Backdoor Man’s a nice cover. The Crystal Ship and End Of The Night provide that late-night spooky vibe. And I sure think 20th Century Fox and Alabama Song provide some quirk. None of those songs have a thing on the big three though. I would give it a 9 just for those songs being on here, but I must grade it considering how I feel on the full album. It’s cool, it’s influential, it’s an 8.5 rounded down (8/10, 4/5 on this scale…but let’s be honest, The End is a 10/10)

Good album. Not quite my style. Clearly influential.

It's the Doors...it's great!

If I was this horny, I probably would have died at 27 too. Break on Through, Light My Fire, and Back Door Man are such heaters. Great album.

Logan said in his review of The Band I think that he doesn’t really like the organ sound in rock music, but it gets me going. The band does great work here, but I think they get even better with time, peaking at the end with all of L.A. Woman. Jim Morrison obviously has this incredible, hypnotizing presence. I dig this, but there are a couple of more minor tracks.

Break on thru, light my fire, back door man, this is the end …Rock n Roll at its finest. Not my cup of tea anymore but a nostalgic listen no doubt!

A little silly and self-serious, but there’s no denying they were onto something.

Morrison's crooning and Manzarek's organ lead the way through a classic set. It is one of the greatest debut albums of all time. This is just a great record.

SORRY GUYS I LIKE THE DOORS :(

Classic stuff

A couple classics on this one on Break on Through, Light My Fire and The End. Falls just short of a 5 for me as outside of those I can't see myself listening to the whole album on the whole again, but those 3 prop it up quite a bit.

its ok

Fun mysterious vibes. Reminds me of some of The Rolling Stones songs.

Best Track - "Light My Fire"

Solid debut album. Most songs are great

Two albums from The Doors in two weeks? Love it. Not as good as Morrison Hotel IMO, but it's still got Break on Through and Light My Fire. The End is hilariously long but at least they made it the last song.

Love the rasp in the vocals for this opening track. Aggressive fry especially for the time this album was released. Quick bitesized track with fun synth leaves you wanting more from the rest of the record. Soul Kitchen immediately gives you exactly what the first track left you waiting for, prominent synth with a staccatoed bluesy guitar riff following along on top. Energetic chorus brings in the same push in the vocals as the first track but with a bit less fry and a bit more control. Definitely a hint of rasp coming through on the first syllable or two. Laidback and simple blues inspired riff. Sloppily played and unclean high notes give it a bit more character. Compared to the opening track this one lasts for an eternity. And that’s not a bad thing. Major slowdown with The Crystal Ship. Potentially feels like too dramatic a decrease in tempo so early in the album after those two very energetic openers. Dramatic instrumental piano makes up for the absence of guitar. Psychedelic lyrics make this track feel a little dreamy, easy to get lost listening to it. Smooth blues guitar licks return immediately with Twentieth Century Fox. DRAMATIC entry of bass in the chorus is really entertaining, jarring in the best way. I literally made a face. Guitar is really being tied in well with the synth in this album, they almost blend, specifically around the end of the solo in this song. I’m not a huge fan of synth but this album is making it work. Alabama Song starts with an immediately whimsical riff that gets even more whimsical when it introduces some instrument that I couldn’t even name, not sure if it’s just synth being played quickly or if they’ve literally pulled out a triangle for this track. Lyrics are silly. Weakest on the album so far, just feels a little too silly to be a serious listen. Light My Fire continues the whimsical synth of the previous track in its intro. Hailed as one of the best tracks on the album I’d maybe be more likely to agree if the synth didn’t sound so much like I was watching the last act of a circus. Great chorus vocally, but definitely felt a little let down by the silliness of the synth. But if quirky is what they’re going for they’ve done it. Maybe not well, but they’ve done it. Jesus I’m only halfway through? Zoned out thinking this was the outro. Nice little sliding guitar solo woke me back up. For a guitar solo of this length I’m not sure how keen I am on the tone? It feels somehow rushed, but not technical, and slow, but not soulful, at the same time? Really don’t think there was enough happening in this track to warrant a 7 minute playtime. The screams in the intro to Back Door Man immediately picked me back up after the disappointment of the last track. Sounds like they’ve ditched the whimsical synth in favour of something more mature sounding backed up with some aggressive sounding muted guitar. This feels like a properly soulful guitar solo. It’s slow, it’s not overly technical, there’s beautiful mellow tone, the lead tracks so well over the rhythm section. I really really enjoyed that one. It’s short enough to leave you wanting a lot more but not so short you feel like you’ve missed out. GREAT lead walkdown in the outro. LOVED this track, one of my favourites. Real beach/island vibes coming in with I Looked At You. The descending progression in the pre chorus followed by the harsh rasp in the chorus is such a fun contrast. Lyrics are lighthearted and remind me something of a dapper dan band for some reason. This is fun track, I like it. End of The Night starts off immediately with discordant notes. Gives it a much darker feel, especially when followed by much more mellow and much more drawn out vocals. Return of that dreamy sound introduced in the The Crystal Ship. Sad guitar solo. An almost underwater feel to this track, maybe because of the flanger coming through on the guitar’s tone. Take It as It Comes carries on a similar feel to the previous track, definitely feels like a follow-on, albeit it at a higher tempo. Again, circus-like synth. Used a bit better here I feel, almost feel like it picks up tempo throughout its melody, kind of makes things a bit tense. In for a long outro to this album with a 12-minute track, aptly named with the on-the-nose title “The End”. Prominent snare gives this track an almost snake-like feel if that makes sense. It’s slinking. Even more so with the use of that rattle. Beautiful Arabic sounding guitar in the lead. Really wish I could remember the term for that scale but it’s out of my head right now. It’s so subtle in the background too. This track really lets the drums take prominence. Again just an extremely psychedelic dreamy song. Look at that, there’s the line “ride the snake, the snake is long”. Clearly they were intentional with that snake-like feel in the intro. Aggressive and nonsensical vocals and shouting in the outro. I actually really like this from the vocalist. It’s fun and gives a lot of energy to an otherwise lethargic (I don’t mean this in a bad way) song. Longest review yet? I’m on a plane. Lots of time on my hands. This is also overall just a phenomenal album with enough variety while sticking to a central theme that there’s a lot to talk about. Shining star of this album is probably Soul Kitchen while Alabama Song or Light my Fire were potentially some of the weaker tracks for me personally. Loved the album as a whole, first 4 star.

classic

My introduction to The Doors was through some weird compilation album called Weird Scenes Inside the Goldmine. A very dodgy pressing which made my Marantz stereo sound like shit. Despite this start I did discover a band that I really enjoy and appreciate. This album is another solid 4 stars for me. Fave track is The End. So much drama.

Gonna go with a 4. There's some very good music here, but it all feels like it's trying too hard.

Good album. Been meaning to do a doors deep dive for a while now. Some of the songs are a little too long for my tastes but the overall sound is nice. 8/10

organ and jim morrison lol

Great debut from one of the most iconic bands of the late 60s.

Liked but not loved it. Some phenomenal tracks but they can't escape the circus music allegations

Feels like listening in a dusty saloon, or a sweaty New Orleanians bar. Vivid and rousing and electrifying!

Incredibly close to a 5 but didn’t stick the landing

i like that it sounds like the doors

Very tough to listen with fresh ears. I’ve heard every song on this record many times. Jim Morrison’s voice and the musical stylings of the band are hypnotic. I’m not a person who thinks Morrison was a poet of his generation or anything, but the man had charisma. Good listen. Didn’t really develop any new opinions. But fun. 4/5

Album #63 The Doors: The Doors Wonderful 60s psychedelic rock, probably the poster album for the scene alongside Jimi Hendrix’s “Are You Experienced” and The Beatles’ “Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band”, out of the three, however, The Doors' self-titled debut may well be my favourite. At the time it came out, it was the most raunchy and offensive album to go mainstream, practically redefining what popular music would look like. The Beatles had already introduced experimentation into the mainstream with songs like Tomorrow Never Knows, but they hadn’t explored such taboo themes like looking for little girls and whiskey bars, as well as someone killing their father and fucking their mother. Jim Morrison is, of course, an enigma in and of himself; many people feel as though he is just some mindless junkie, or perhaps someone trying to maintain the appearance of an out-of-control rock star, but considering how his life ended, I think it’s fair to say that he really lived that shit. Almost all of the songs on this album have aged well, with many still being culturally relevant. The final track “The End’ is certainly the most ambitious, it reminds me of The Velvet Underground’s “Sister Ray”, in its length and subject matter, both also coming out around the same time. Psych bands today still take massive influence from The Doors, for better or for worse, because it often doesn’t hit the same when some rich kid from New York uses their parents' money to rent a studio and do their best Jim Morrison impression, but the youth of today treat it like they are reinventing the wheel… Either way, a one-of-a-kind, magnanimous album and a definite favourite of mine. Similar to Who’s Next in that it just isn’t quite a 10 due to the fact that, since some tracks are so good, it outshines the others, which, though unfair, results in a mild detraction in its score. Best Songs: Light My Fire, The End, The Crystal Ship Worst Song: Back Door Man Score out of 10: 9.5

Really good. Amazing first album. Almost a greatest hits. The last couple songs slow things down and im not rhe biggest fan of the meandering and divisive The End

This album is the pinnacle of the 70s and makes sense why this is my dad's favorite band.

Detta var eit bra lytte-album å ta opp igjen i pappa sin hifi-krok! Aktiverte dansefoten min!

This was a good rock album. It didn’t have the crazy psychedelic singing that many rock albums do, and the guitar was really good. I genuinely enjoyed this album; nothing was great, but a lot was good.

This was pretty cool! I grew to like this sound more and more as the album went on. Felt very much like Blues Rock, but there were definitely other influences there too. My one criticism would be that it sounds a bit dated, but I suppose you can't fault them for not being ahead of their time. I should listen to more of The Doors. Favorite Track: Light My Fire

This album really sounds as it looks, Jim Morrison never dissapoints and this project shows, the guitars, bass and vocals have one of the best chemistry i've seen in a long time. I had a lot of fun listening to this, but i have to admit that some of the tracks didn't feel as memorable as the rest of the album, but the ones that are memorable make up for it a 100%. Track Ranking BoT (10/10) Soul Kitchen (8.9/10) TCS (7.1/10) TCF (8.5/10) Alabama Song (6.5/10) Light My fire (9/10) Back Door Man (9.1/10) I looked at you (7.9/10) End Of The Night (8.6/10) Take It As It Comes (9.5/10) The End (10/10) Overall Rating: 9/10

Buen disco. The End es The End.

very strong start

Such a cool smooth album.

I'm a Doors fan, not a rabid one, but my parents tell me I was likely conceived with "Light My Fire" spinning on the turntable. I was in the belly when my parents saw them live in early 1968. "Break On Through" is an utter classic, pure rock goodness. "Soul Kitchen" is a radio staple as is "Crystal Ship", "Twentieth Century Fox", "Alabama Song", Back Door Man" and "The End". You toss in "Light My Fire", a Mt Rushmore rock & roll classic, and you essentially have their greatest hits. This one hits it out of the park, no track has fewer than 19M listens! "Break On" has 420M and "Fire" has 380M! This truly deserves it's spot on the T1001. It's a rock royalty album, likely in the Top 25. 4+ stars

This is my first Doors album of the project. Though the lyrics aren't that good(Jim Morrison a poet? Really?), the album is good musically. The main star of the show is the organ, with numerous solos and a big role in the songs' hooks. However, the drumming is great, and the guitar suits the songs despite being less prominent than the organ in many songs. The lengthy solos in "Light My Fire" were somewhat tedious, but the rest of the songs had very little flaws beyond the bad lyricism.

pretty good

Bra energi, men noen av låtene hindrer fra 5 stjerner.

Back door slaps

Could be a 5 eventually. Really good.

4,5 - Natürlich ein absolutes Brett, aber es fehlt mir persönlich an DEM Highlight, um 5 Sterne zu bekommen. Ansonsten aber ein grandioses Album. Highlights: Soul Kitchen, Light My Fire

This is an incredible psych rock album! I've always really enjoyed what I've heard from The Doors, but never sat down and listened through an album until starting this list. I am so glad I listened to this one, probably a new favourite!!!

For a debut it's chock full of hits. More so in the first half, though it does end with The End, which I found to be pretty strong. I'm usually back and forth on The Doors, but this was a good one.

The Doors score really high on the "vibes" rating. The late 60's, California, bluesy, drunken poetry sway is perfected right out of the gate with this album. The problem is sometimes the vibes alone just aren't enough to carry a bands whole career. I think if you look too closely it's possible to not be persuaded into thinking The Doors are that special of a band. I think Morrison reputation as a poet was disproportionate to his ability as a poet. Sure there is a level of creativity, and impressive that this music was revived as mainstream but at its heart is a riff on blues music that came decades before it. This particular album by The Doors I do think was this band at their best.

This is just a quintessential psychedelic rock album full of unique, fuzzed out guitar, some haunting organ, and Jim Morrison’s absolute insane weirdness. Break On Through is probably one of the strongest album openers ever and the End is probably one of the strangest closers. Once again, it’s been ages since I’ve listened to the Doors, but I loved diving into this again!

Somehow had never listened to this album all the way through (the 1960s are a blind spot for me), and it pretty much lived up to the hype! Really creative musically, I thoroughly enjoyed all but two songs. The hits are the hits, but my favorites were “Twentieth Century Fox” and “The End.” A very solid 4/5

Love how there is a variety of styles throughout the album. From heavily deconstructed to something melancholic

Solid album, though it doesn't quite light my my fire.

Great debut album with multiple culturally important songs.

This group to me is like training wheels on your rock&roll bicycle. They were integral in the early stages & I really dug them for a long while. But eventually I took them off & threw them in a corner of the garage & rarely thought about them since. Aside from a small handful of exceptions I’ve really had no use nor patience for them. And so I approached this album with a little annoyance & impatience and a sprinkling of pleasant nostalgia. What fun it was tho!! Surpassed my expectations. I had a great time with this relisten. And gee-damn this album is packed! 4stars

7.5/10

dosta dobro, prvi put da sam zapravo preslušo u cijelosti. ima doduše nešto slabijih stvari

9,4/10

The Doors!

The hammonds give this album so much depth, so many classic songs. Wow. I will be going back to this one...

legende ja, aber naja.

Ein Klassiker und eine der wenigen hörbaren 70er Scheiben.

i mean, yeah, obviously, a fucking all-timer

I don't love Morrison's voice but some weird little fun stuff going on, spooky carnival vibes. Solid 4

Feel like I've hardly listened to the Doors for years but what an astonishingly strong album this is. Almost unbelievable that it's their debut. Pretty much the definition of 'all killer, no filler'.

Great start from what has become an overated band. It's ok, but that's it.

I’m not actually a doors fan but this was nice

Krieger’s guitar tone is one of my favourite noises in music and Morrison’s voice is iconic. Deserves the praise and then you get to The End and it’s this gorgeously big track that drives forward for the run time. Gives it an entire extra star.

i heard about them, its not the type of music im used to but it was cool, i like it

I'm not totally enthralled by this, but I liked it a lot more than Morrison Hotel. Highlights: "Break On Through (To the Other Side)," "Twentieth Century Fox," and "Light My Fire."

I LOVED THIS ALBUM SO MUCH (the end was so random and I loved it, such a cool band too)

I really enjoyed this album. I knew some of the songs by the doors, but none of those were on this album. They gave an amazing psych rock album that has elements of blues and even some jazz influences with the way the instruments improvise of each other in their solos. Sonically, they have such a unique sound in their music and the utilization of the organ works so well in this album. This album definitely deserves to be on this list.

Loved it, always knew of the doors but never gave them a full listen.

Not my fav sound, esp the style of vocals But the guitar work feels very much like the beginning of modern guitar work - like the strokes even like in the first song I heard geese taking some inspiration in 2112. Wow, really love the guitar work. It’s a funny arrangement with the organ, and the vocals take getting used to, but they feel like solid songs that have a good mix of jam band elements - of which it felt like maybe they were a precursor to jam band style music. I also heard a lot of really interesting harmonic stuff that sounded very Indian-inspired. Better then The Who 🤣

4.5 stars another album I LOVE. the best Doors album front to back...I get why a lot of people don't like the band, but I love them. they had such a unique sound. and had such a cultural impact on the 60's. Favorite song: Soul Kitchen

Didn’t realize how many the doors songs I actually knew.

Quite liked most of it. The lengthy solos still annoying.

A really good album, I was expecting to give a 5 but a 4 is more appropriate. A solid overall sound, but a lot of the tracks didn’t grip me as much as I thought they would. Still worth a few listens, but not the impact I remember.

I loved this. It’s kinda weird and trippy but also extremely catchy and each song really gets you stuck in a groove. I really like Jim Morrisons delivery, and matched with the dark psychedelic instrumentals, it’s quite transfixing. I loved hearing Alabama Song, which I recognised from The Worlds End but had no idea it was by The Doors. It’s a weirdly erotic album which creates this scene while you’re listening that really affected me. Loved it

This is my first album. The Doors has that 70s vibe with some rock. I really like these songs Soul Kitchen and Crystal Ship.

70s rock vibes

sound track: twenty century fox, light my fire, I looked at you, take it as it comes masterpiece, probably im biased im in love with Jim Morrison his voice is hypnotic forever classic yet not everyones cup of tea

Bunch of songs i remember my grandpa listening to, so i really like it and enjoy the instrumentals

very good debut album

This is amazing. Feeling transcended. The piano in The Crystal Ship- I can just picture myself falling in love with the keyboardist at the concert.

Can't complain. This is really a fantastic debut album. Enjoyed each and every song. Was only familiar with the hits. Now I'm glad I've listened to new songs ( at least new to me ) by The Doors.

The entire album is consistently high quality. I love the organ and Morrison's voice. But it isn't quite up to the highest level for me. Maybe it's a bit dated.

7.5/10

Iconic.

After listening to LA Woman and being surprised by how much that didn’t sound like the Doors I was familiar with, I was glad to listen to this and hear more of what I expected the Doors to be. Several familiar songs in this album (Light My Fire, Break on Through) a few new ones that were decent, and a few that I needed to skip. Overall decent. (4)

This album is not served well by a 1-5 scale. It needs a radar chart with stats like organ (5), lyricism (2), cohesion (3), hits (4), filler quality (2), fucking stupidity (3). There's stuff to like here, a lot more than the other doors album I rated, but it's also just...I don't have the vocabulary to describe this kind of thing. The things that make it good also make it bad - like, the musicianship is pretty tight but it also has that edge of control punk-ish thing going, which is probably a lot of where this album gets its reputation and swagger. The End, on the other hand, is tedious as hell. Whatever, definitely something someone should have listened to, like it or not.

Lots of rock, lots of recognizable songs even though I've never really purposefully listened to the Doors. "The End" was a bit indulgent I thought but the rest of the album was good.

This album caught me at a good time - I watched The Graduate for the first time this week and watched Last Night in Soho last week, so I'm in a late 60s mood. I will be playing some of these songs while writing in my diary in a dimly lit room thinking I'm incredibly cool. Stand out tracks (all 5/5) - Break on Through (To the Other Side) - Light My Fire - The End

I've always had a soft spot for The Doors, I'm not sure why. Their music just feels good. Wait is that an explicit marker on the last song? Oh dear god... Top: Light My Fire (has this always been 7 minutes long???) Not Top: I Looked At You

Great keyboard/piano playing, loved Jim Morrison with the lyrics and vocals, top three songs were light my fire, break on through (to the other side), and I looked at you, and the worst song was good but just wasn’t better than the rest which was Alabama song (whiskey bar).

The Doors have a very unique style. I like it, this album as a whole is a good listen.

This album has got to go down as one of history’s greatest. Plays more like a greatest hits than a freshman EP. Astonishing that this is the album they came into the scene with.

The doors can have some really repetitive lyrics but their tunes are just so iconic and lisenable

En rekke klassiske sanger. Stinn av kul og alternativ attitude, og det funker.

Country meets classic organ style rock. Favourites: crystal ship, light my fire

was very surprised and i really liked the album

I don’t know what to say, it’s definitely good but I need more time to digest

Quintessential rock of the era - sex, drugs, freedom. Love the prominence of the organ and drum set.

Yah this album is an all time classic. It’s chock full of massive decade defining hits. It could also be argued that this album is one of the greatest debut albums of all time. The only problem I have with this album is that side a is infinitely better than side b and I kinda think side b is a let down. The only song on side b that I liked was End of the night, but it wasn’t mind blowing like every single song on side a. If this album was released as an ep and it ended with light my fire it would be one of the most untouchably perfect albums of all time.

Enjoyed most songs but some didn't age well

I had this on vinyl! I really enjoyed it- the instruments take center stage in this album

Classic

An early fascination brought to my attention from my drunk uncle when I was very young - absolutely timeless record! Dangerously beautiful. Plus I got a big boy crush on Jim Morrison, just like everyone else. ⭐⭐⭐⭐

How is this album nearly 60 years old? First listened 25 years ago, still hits. You can almost smell the marijuana in the air as you stare at beautiful Jim Morrison singing through the haze.

Pas mon préféré mais y'a les classiques. 3.75

I was off that specific age when The First came out in the early 90s and for a brief moment every Gen x kid thought that JM was a transcendent visionary and not a drunken lout. It was cool because we had someone to hang all our medicine poetry and cringe song lyrics on. Then we learned the truth, grew up, and realized that he was a mediocre (at best) poet and that Ray M was the glue of this band that had been emulated to the point of parody. But that doesn't take away from the raw power that the first couple Doors albums eliminate. They were visionary and unique and there is a reason this sound is so associated with that era. They're a decent rock band that became legendary and that's more than most can ask for.

Klassiker. Nevnes alltid når det diskuteres tidenes debutalbum, med god grunn. Hørt 26.12.25, på vei til Blårock for å se Manchester United - Newcastle. United vant 1-0 etter noe så sjeldent som et Dorgu-mål.

Break on Through // The Crystal Ship // Light My Fire // I Looked at You // The End 4.5/5

AWESOMEEE

Lots of well-composed, classic Christmas songs

Класика

So classic

This was a very enjoyable album with a lot of weird songs- as I'm starting to get into the habit of saying, it didn't make me ascend to heaven or anything like that, but it was a lot of fun with some nice jazzy rock odd stuff going on

Varenda låt är en banger, men något gör att det inte är jättespeciellt för mig

Good- not sure how often I’d want to relisten

fajne przyjemne podobało mi się

Better than I rembered actually

Great debut album by a great band. Some tracks really aren't the best in their discography, but it still is one of the best debut albums ever published by a rock band.

Está bueno, me parecen canciones conocidas y agradables. No está entre mis favoritos pero aún así me copó bastante.

Listened on 12/16/2025

When The Doors made the radio scene, the disc jockeys played the song, "Light My Fire" constantly and although I think it is a quintessential rock and roll song, I can only listen to it once in a while. Best song: "Alabama Song (Whiskey Bar)" and worst song was, "The End" as it just seemed to go on and on and on.

Classic doors album, the first half is really strong. Other than the two big hits, I’m a big fan of crystal dhip , Alabama song, soul kitchen. The first half like insaid is really strong The second half is where I feel it starts to fall apart. End of the night, I looked at you doesn’t have much strength to them, but The End is a great long jam that I think is a great closer Not perfect, but still berry worthwhile

Bad poetry, excellent drums and organ

I didn't know a lot these songs were the doors!

Surprisingly good.

Jim Morrison has a haunting voice that fits with the music really well; The Doors LOVE the organ in their songs omg; the jam at the end of "Light My Fire" was cool; I didn't realize how many hits were on this album; least favorite song was probably "The Crystal Ship"; I was initially skeptical of "The End" because it was eleven minutes, but wow

The end is peak

Really quite good. I had heard it was great and it matched that. Will return

Organ heavy old school rock n roll, morrison drives for sure

Great debut! Dark and dancey; poetic funk with a brit-pop blues sound. Morrison sounds possessed; a voice you crave more from.

I mean, it's The Doors' self-titled. If you haven't listened to it, what are you doing? They took 60s blues and psych rock and just put such a fun and unique spin on it. From the melodies to the arrangement and the vocals, everything is so good. The intro has such a memorable riff and fun energy, always puts me in a good mood. Soul Kitchen also has a killer melody and guitar parts. The Crystal Ship has such crazy energy radiating from it, it's so cool. Light My Fire is honestly one of my favorite songs of all time. Again just so much fun to listen to, while also being really impressive. I love the bassline, amd of course the keyboard and guitar solo is just sick as fuck. The End is such a perfect closer, the song feels like being on shrooms and they are slowly overtaking your entire body. While all songs are great, some are not as memorable as others and I guess that is my only complaint. Still, Incredible record and one of my favs from the 60s.

The are popular for a reason, all were my tops songs off the album: The End, Light my Fire and Break on Through. Kinda spooky. Can’t imagine hearing this body of work when it came out for the first time. Could be fun at times, but also is quite dark, brilliant song writing sprinkled in.

Iconic. It's one of those albums that is truly innovative and unique, changing the trajectory of music to some degree. Cool and edgy in a real way. Side 2 has some weaknesses, although those deep cuts still have something to offer. Maybe it just seems weak in light of the strengths like Light My Fire. The album still sounds good, still spooky and weird and dirty.

A fun psychedelic trip that transcends its time.

Fun classic rock album
