not a fan especially with Leadbelly and blues hard to justify Zeppelin sometimes?
pleasantly surprising, back half gets better after 'since I've been loving you'
Personal note; as a 6 year old my dad put my brother and I in the centre of the lounge and arranged the 4 speakers of his new quad system around us and played LZ2…. LZ3; 1. Immigrant Song 2. Since I’ve been loving you 3. Bron-Y-Aur Stomp
I see why they went a slightly different route after this one. It feels a bit forced by round 3 and they are really stretching those last few songs to get in a whole album. Concept became a nice way to redefine this band. It's ok. Fun but a bit forced. That first song fucking rules though.
Favorites: Immigrant Song Friends Since I've Been Loving You
An undeniably phenomenal album opener, and great music throughout. God that voice is grating.
Pretty good but not my favorite by them
Been pretty skeptical about Zeppelin albums with my experiences, mostly due to the length but this was an overall enjoyable projects with some songs I was even able to take away to listen to again in the future.
Country fried Zeppelin. Bouncy. Lighter. Since I’ve been living you swings bluesy and then goes different. Tangerine good.
Still can’t get into Zeppelin Fav songs: Immigrant Song Saved a song: N RYM: Y (#1,066)
Immigrant song is good, the rest is meh
Immigrant Song was good, the rest was a bit dull wasn't it? I only knew Immigrant Song from School Of Rock for the longest time.
A 3 for 3. More acoustic but still rocking. Not my favorite overall of there’s but some excellent tracks
these dudes rock. unfortunately a little frontloaded. peaks with immigrant song, and the back half is some good rock and roll but it doesn't REALLY get me goin
Rating: 6/10 Never heard Led Zeppelin III before (I’m sure we will get every album they’ve ever made on this list). These are decent songs and the album length doesn’t overstay, but I think the band is just a touch overrated for how much they’re revered. Still much better though than all of the classic rock of the next 15 years that they influenced
Immigrant Song goes hard but the rest is a chill banjo sesh as I phase in and out of consciousness to the sound of incomprehensible wailing vocals somewhere off in the distance 6/10
Certainly they have better albums, right? Not terrible though. 6 Lord of Lightning vs the Balrog out of 10 Lizard Wizards
"Tangerine," one of like four songs I can play in its entirety on the guitar. I think at some point I would have lied that this is my favourite Led Zeppelin album. It's not, though I don't know what is. Houses of the Holy? What's the one where Robert Plant goes "AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHYYYYYYYYAAAAAAAAAA"?
Didn’t hit as hard in the backend
Maybe Zeppelin just isn’t for me but I’m glad I know this one start to finish now. Just always a bit one-note.
Bangers only at the beginning but most of the rest was pretty forgettable
I thought we’d already had this but no, we had a different Led Zeppelin album that sounded the same.
Decent 3,5
Strong country and folk inspirations, which admittedly are not my cup of tea. I do appreciate the blues rock on "since I've been loving you". I liked the first half, but from gallows pole onward the country/folk influences take over and I started nodding off. I don't think the singers voice really fits this more quiet style of music I'd give the first half a 4.5 and the second half a 2.5. overall that rounds out to a 3.5. Because i dislike albums that arent cohesive in quality I'll go with a 3. However, I have found some new songs I am adding to my catalogue.
Favorite track(s): Immigrant Song, Since I've Been Loving You, Gallows Pole Heard before Previous rating: 7/10
Led Zeppelin would be a top tier band if that annoying guy would stop singing and just let the sick guitar riffs flow.
Pretty good, Immigrant song carried
Not my favourite Zep album. Immigrant Song the only real stand out for me. However, worth a listen…
6/10
Not a big fan of rock but I liked Immigrant Song
Not as good as I was hoping for, but still good.
I like this one, but it is not my favorite Led Zeppelin album. I remember my parents having this on vinyl and it being the only LZ one we had so I am very familiar with it, but I prefer II and IV.
Well there’s immigrant song, and I kind of liked tangerine, but as usual I find Zepp just fair to middling. The blues tracks are done better elsewhere and I’ve never been a fan of the vocals. Not worthy of making this list IMHO
Three stars.
Good but some of it is a tough listen
Surprisingly disliked immigrant song the most out of the album. Friends 11/10
I like the Immigrant song. Although I don’t usually like rock, this was very listenable.
I wasn’t that big a fan of the more acoustic tracks
Blues
[6/10]
Thoroughly enjoyable I loved how it seems like every song had a different feel
Listened on my train to Trenton from Norfolk. Started off strong with a song I knew—Immigrant Song. I enjoyed Since I’ve Been Loving You. That’s the Way reads queer tbh. My listening was interrupted by a call from Alyssa. Gonna rate this album a solid 6.5/10.
Not the best Zeppelin, but still ok
Classic rock. I can jam.
Ahh the Led Zeppelin folk album. Some cool songs, some forgettable ones. Overall a good addition to the Zep discography. My left ear really loved that last song.
This is clearly not Zeppelin’s best album, but it’s still a Zeppelin album. 3/5 in my books.
Not my favorite band but a decent album.
'Immigrant Song" is a great thesis statement, "Out on the Tiles" their struttiest, "Tangerine" a sleeper great tune that makes me happy every time I hear it. The maypole folk songs are good, but not what I board a heavy dirigible for. A lot of the rest is nice enough bluesy soundtracky mood pieces I've publicly thought might be Pink Floyd until the vocals hit.
great album
Not my favorite Zeppelin. Though Since I've been loving you and that's the way we're highlights on here that I forgot about. Oh and immigrant song is pretty awesome. One and two and 4 are just so consistent and physical graffiti and houses of the holy also have more bangers.
Cool.
FAVO: Celebration Day, Tangerine
Pretty fun to listen to. The talent behind the group is incredible. Jimmy Page’s guitar playing is a masterclass of music performance, and the roaring drumming of John Bonham never ceases to amaze. That being said, this album isn’t exactly my cup of tea, but I will not deny it is an incredible piece of music.
-this is the second Led Zeppelin album i’ve heard from here this week and i’m not complaining bc shit’s fire. they’re a band that has seriously grown on me and this is another really cool album -i love how Loud and Intense the whole thing is. 3.5 for now but could definitely grow on me more -Favorites: Immigrant Song, Gallows Pole
Man bekommt was man erwartet oder befürchtet
Schwächer als Led Zeppelin II
It's great.
I’ll just say what I mean and hope it doesn’t come off like it sounds in my head: I’ve never thought of Zeppelin as “cool”, precisely because I most associate the group with people with comparatively low personal grooming standards. As it happens, the only thing that stinks is my attitude. I owe some dudes an apology. “Immigrant Song” is an ice cool blast of proto-Madchester, proto-Beastie Boys white man funk that sounds like a theme tune for a TV show about a superhero with the power to blow shit up just by winking suggestively at it. There’s no guitar solo in that one, which feels like a refreshing bit of restraint from the lads. Conversely, the record’s other highlight “Since I’ve Been Loving You” is effectively an extended, gloriously textured guitar solo. It sounds, for me, like a night spent with a superhero who can blow shit up just by winking suggestively at it. The rest of the record does what Zeppelin does; which is to say – a lot for a lot of people, but not a lot for me. Still, I’m grateful for having had another long held assumption dismantled – Zep’s cool. Wink wink.
classic 3.5/5
It's fine, I dont get the hype.
immigrant song and since ive been loving you are incredible, otherwise it's cool music but nothing special tbh
This album has some great, foundational sounds and iconic individual songs, but I don't think I'd go back to listen to this as an album again. The hit singles off this album shine much brighter on their own than this album does as a collective, not to say that the music itself is bad. A solid listen for one time through, though.
7/10
I have said in previous reviews that I have never really ‘got’ Zeppelin but I actually enjoyed listening to this one. Not the most clever lyrics but sang with feeling to be sure!
I was not looking forward to Led Zeppelin albums. I figured there had to be a few of them, possibly more than a few. The only record of theirs I willingly listened to when I was younger was IV, and I mostly enjoyed it. But I had never gotten into them the way so many people my age did back in the 70's and 80's, constantly hearing the band on rock radio stations (later called classic rock radio stations I suppose). I couldn't stand Robert Plant's screeching voice over bluesy rock riffs. I do like his voice when he's not trying to hit those notes, but it felt like every song was an excuse to get that sound out of him. When this album started I totally felt the same way, thinking I'd be trashing this in my review. But the truth is, I actually liked some of the songs I'd never heard before. They were understated (by their standards) and not just bashing you over the head with the drums, guitar, and that voice. Of the ten songs on the record, I actually liked about five of them. There was only one, Tangerine, that I really enjoyed and would consider listening to again (but not enough to put on a playlist), but they weren't bad. If this is how the rest of their albums go, I guess I'll think they're not too bad and the radio hits were the outliers.
Out of their first 5 albums, this is the weakest out of them all. Sure, it's got some great tracks and some legendary ones, but on the whole, it falls far short of what was given to us in Led Zep IV or even close to Led Zep II's masterful work. 3 out of 5 stars
Not a huge fan of the vocals, but most tracks are nice.
definitely not my fave led zeppelin
"aaaAAAAAH AHHHHHH" 3/5
I like getting the Led out every now and again this is a good album. Nice riffs I like the slow down versions and less manic stuff where Plant shoes off his voice. Not a patch on IV but still a good one.
pretty good
Nothing that Led Zeppelin does is bad, but this isn’t my favorite record of theirs. It starts really strong with Immigrant Song and then kinda just treads water for a while. 3.6/5
Some decent songs and some boring ones
Immigrant Song is a banger, wasn't bothered about the rest really!
I think this rating is just a reflection of personal aversion to rock. Tracks to Track: Immigrant Song
"That's the Way" is mooi, desalniettemin.
Revisiting this record after more than 50 years finds that I have moved on way past this classic sound. Immigrant Song is still vibrant, and Celebration Day remains interesting but the rest of this largely folk rock record is, frankly, dull.
I recognize these songs from commercials
Not my favorite band, nor my favorite album from them but still, it's a good classic and I enjoyed the acoustics.
Not my favorite of theirs
Immigrant Song is a strong opener from which it fizzles out and never recovers. If I wanted twangy mandolins and folksy ballads I wouldn't be listening to Led Zeppelin.
I’ve never been blown away by led zeppelin and this is no exception. I enjoyed most of the songs except the closing track, but it’s not somethinf I would come back to. My fave song was tangerine, seemed a bit more intimate than anything else I’ve heard from them. 3/5
Sounds terrific, but doesn't really tingle my jingle, if you know what I mean. Like it's got that special sauce, but what do you expect me to do with it, eat it like soup? 3.5/5
Immigrant song is one of the great Zeppelin songs, though I was surprised how folky and acoustic the rest was. Very nice.
Love Zeppelin but this one was not for me. Take out Immigrant Song and this would get a 2.
Not my favourite Zeppelin album. I liked immigrant song, out on the tiles, tangerine and that's the way. I think the second half was much better or at least what I felt like more.
They might possess some virtuosity but there's no way I'd let these grubby freaks make me a sandwich
they could never make me form an opinion abt this album. deeply unmoved.
Somewhere in the middle as far as Zeppelin albums goes. Not as bad as their last two, not as good as IV, HotH, and the good stuff on PG.
Starts off strong with Immigrant Song, then kind of loses steam right after. Just ok.
Easy to listen to.
Nieuwe bangers voor mij waren Out on the tiles en That's the way.
I’ve heard a lot of Zep over the years - mainly just the hits. I figured I’ve heard all the band has to offer: competent rock music, slick execution, tight production. It’s all here on 3. Let it not be said that Led Zeppelin aren’t a great rock act. On listening to 3 for the first time, the above impression holds up. This was good! I enjoyed this more than I had expected to - certainly more than Physical Graffiti. I also admire the balancing on these tracks - especially Immigrant Song. The musical elements are just so distinct. They sound so clear on a nice set of headphones. I love how much energy the band put into their music. Thing is, their songs live and die on those musical elements. Lyrically I don’t get the sense that Robert Plant has a lot of depth as a writer. Immigrant Song is a good case - the song is killer, but the lyrics, while full of evocative references to Valhalla, are all a bit directionless and feel thrown in because they just sound cool. All the aside, it’s a strong 3 for 3. ✨
Honestly I could leave this. I don’t think it’s their best and maybe I’ve just grown tired of Led Zeppelin
A couple of memorable songs and a good blues but not their best
(Immigrant Song ends) YOU LIKE THAT?!!! THEN LET’S GOOOOO!!!! (Gets out acoustic guitar)
Not even in my top 3 Zep albums!
3.5 stars I feel like I’m failing this challenge on some level by not fully appreciating Led Zeppelin. Am I too old to get into them? Should I have gotten into them as a young impressionable youth? Am I just too much a dummy to appreciate the musicianship? Well, anyway, I enjoyed this album but it didn’t set me on fire. Immigrant Song though, what a way to open an album. It’s good every time. My cousin, who is Swedish-Finnish on the other side of the family, said this song makes her think of her people - “we come from the land of the ice and snow” - so now I always just think of her ancestors as marauding Vikings when I hear that opening war cry. The rest of the first half didn’t live up to the excitement of the opening song. I actually really enjoyed the folky country second half.
I liked this more than Led Zeppelin II. It was very folksy, very acoustic, less aggressively horny (as far as i could tell). I think in my review of 2, I said it was the "acoustic" Zeppelin record. I think I got my albums confused. This is definitely the acoustic Zeppelin album and it's better for it. Page really nows how to strum an acoustic guitar. It's so rhythmic and intense. And when he gets the slide going, it's a lot of fun. The Immigrant Song rocks. I hope it's pro immigration. Friends has a great little acoustic riff. Celebration Day has a great little electric riff. Since I've Been Loving You is this massive blues rock epic. I enjoyed it. Gallows Pole has a fun renaissance fair vibe. I dig it. Tangerine is a very pretty acoustic track. Maybe my favourite song on the album? It hints towards Going to California for sure. I didn't know it going into this album. Bron-Y-Aur Stomp is a fun driving folk track. Hats off to (Roy) Harper has some wicked slide guitar. The guitar playing in general on this track rocks. Final note: i feel like this review seems very glowing and in some ways it is. But I also found this album didn't really stick with me, and isn't something I'd just throw on. I dunno. Maybe I've changed and Zeppelin is no longer my thing. On paper, it's a 3.5... but i'm going to round down because I struggle to connect to it.
I've rated other Led Zeppelins highly. This really fell apart after Immigrant's Song, which, to be fair, is such an epic knock out with such a long cultural shadow ... 2.5 or so
A side has all of the hits. B side is full of experimental deep cuts that don’t seem to flow well together.
Good album. Never has been my favorite of theirs, though.
Underwhelming. Only one truly great song
A side is good, flip side a bit too folky for my taste.
It got this very 70s sounding rock, which is nice, but there’s something missing for me. Not a huge fan of acoustic music. I love stuff like synthies in the background or whatever, something like that would make it complete in my opinion (but yes I know back then synthesizer were just invented and thus not very widespread…or maybe Led Z. just didn’t wanna use it lol). So yeah… too “acoustic” for me, too little electric sound + a high voice, which is kinda cool, but exhausting at some point.
Tangerine is really the only standout track for me on this one. There are some interesting bits and pieces here and there but doesn't hold up.
If you haven’t heard Les Zeppelin, how could you possibly have enough of a musical background to even find this list? “Immigrant Song” is one of the best rock songs ever. The rest of the album is classic, but loses a bit from the over-played status of Zeppelin.
This was fine. Immigrant song is a classic. The vocals kind of grate after a while. I can no longer listen to Led Zeppelin without hearing Henry Paker's impression
Liked some of the songs, others weren’t mine for sure, but overall liked it.
klasika, bolji nego što se sjećam mada opada malo pri kraju, since ive been loving you dobra ali i dalje malo previše
It’s another Led Zeppelin. It’s not bad, but it’s not amazing.
19/1001 Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin III Heard before? ✅ Revisit? 🫳 Led Zeppelin III has one of the greatest opening tracks of all time, however I forgot just how top heavy this album is. After Since I've Been Loving You, it kinda all goes downhill for me. Yes, they're experimenting with the sound on the latter tracks, but they don't work for me.
Two favourited songs.
You know what's better than III? IV.
It was fine. I’m not a huge Led Zeppelin fan. Tangerine and That’s the Way were my favorites aside from Immigrant Song which was the only song I knew going in.
It’s ok; def not the best, 2nd best, or 3rd best Zep album…
Kind of subdued
Best rhythm section ever. Guitarist is good but steals all his best ideas. Singer has a hobbit fetish.
I'm 1018 albums deep and these are the bands/musicians this list has failed to make me a fan of: Led Zeppelin, David Bowie, Elvis Costello, Nick Cave, The Byrds. I don't hate Led Zeppelin, they just do nothing for me.
WHAT a way to start an album ‘Immigrant Song’ is. I always preferred Led Zeppelin II as a teen and they’ve fallen by the wayside quite a bit as I’ve grown up. Why do I think this album is acceptable but Deep Purple is not? I appreciate how stripped back it is, it allows its self to breathe a lot more. It really reminds me of later, less garagey White Stripes. They’re both in ‘It Might Get Loud’ so that may be less of a coincidence. This album does drift a bit as it goes on, but I like how’s it not Blues Rock All The Time. it’s not Clapton thank God. There’s one song on here that’s total crap. I like the cover too. 3.
Last time I rated an album I forgot to write a review. Anyway... I tried listening to this 11 months ago (to the day) and I recall not enjoying the first few songs (bar Immigrant Song) and so I came into this with that memory still lingering. Unfortunately, a listen this time didn't particularly change my views of the first few songs (bar Immigrant Song). I think I definitely prefer Led Zepp's folkier stuff, and I figured out I really don't like the blues-y stuff much at all. Too much slide guitar for me to be enjoyable. Was going to be a 2, but I did enjoy the B-side a lot more. But I think there's a reason I hadn't heard of nor listened to most of these songs before. Definitely one of the weaker Led Zepp albums, but still overall a 3/5 stars.
Peaks with the first song
Honestly I was surprised how unimpressed I was with this one when I revisited it. The blues songs, played well of course, are nevertheless somewhat desultory, and the folk-based songs - typically talked about as the defining sound of the record - are a bit hit and miss. It certainly pales substantially versus II and IV, perhaps that its biggest problem.
When Zep officially became “music to play D&D to”
It was fine. I do like “Tangerine” an awful lot.
Liked this but just not connecting with it on the level most people seem to. LZ has all the elements that I should love but I just never want to listen to them. Immigrant song is the clear stand out here but the album never really hits the same height after.
i looooove led zeppelin
Yup, that's certainly another Led Zepp album. I don't know why they don't connect with me. Maybe their omnipresence over the years. Maybe just Robert Plant's voice. Even mentioning Roy Harper's name didn't do it for me. Looking back, I've given two other albums 3 points, and thinking back, I may have been a bit generous.
It's a shame that this album starts with Immigrant Song, because that builds up a lot of promises that the rest of the album completely fails to deliver. A banger of an opener, then a load of acoustic noodling that just puts me off.
It's a good album. They have better but they released three albums in a year and a half so it seems like they were running out of steam a bit with this one. It feels like a bunch of tracks that would have been B sides for their first two albums. It's an enjoyable listen. If you like Zeppelin you will love it. If your on the fence it's not going to move the needle.
To me, it’s not as strong as I, II and IV, but close enough, though. There are some real bangers on here
A great band for sure, but there’s something off putting to me about Robert Plant’s voice.
First ever full listen. What a great album.
Once again - greatest hits album made by Led Zeppelin might be the best records in the history, but their respective releases are quite troublesome, as is this album. Immigrant Song and Since I've been Loving You go straight to the pantheon of greatest songs, the rest is an annoying slugfest - very skippable. I know I might commit sacrilege by saying that, but overall Led Zeppelin is just a solid band with quite a few great songs and many below average ones.
Pretty good but far from their best album. Big fan of Immigrant Song, Tangerine and Bron-Y-Aur Stomp, but the tracks in between were just okay.
Interesting vocals.
Immigrant Song just flat-out rocks. Tangerine and That's the Way were nice.
Dramatisch maar Very nice
Rock, 1970 -> 3
This is good, because of course it is, because it’s Led Zeppelin. This one is a little too psychedelic for me though. I preferred the more structured albums (Led Zeppelin II) and the harder rock and roll (Physical Graffiti).
listened while walking down a highway shoulder. downloaded 1,4,5,6,7&8
Classic band not the best songs
immigrant song- overplayed. but okay. 6 friends- 6 celebration day- 5 since ive been loving you- 5 out on the tiles- 5 gallows pole- 5 tangerine- this album is so fucking long dude. 5 thats the way- 4 bron y aur stomp- 5 hats off to roy harper- 5 very boring
So much drama in every performance. It works though. Not the best zeppelin album but pretty darn close.
Immigrant song og Since I’ve been loving you, hadde jeg hørt før. Begge to fantastiske låter.
The weakest of the first four I reckon
The blues-y side of Zeppelin really comes out on this one. A great album.
Great start with immigrant song to kick it off. Amazing musicians who can’t do much wrong.
why does the lead singer of zeppelin sound like Jack white
Wow I thought I would hate this, and I actually quite enjoyed it! Shocking
Things I like +5 stars for the 'The immigrant song' +3 stars for 'since I've been loving you' +3 stars for 'Tangerine' Things I don't like - 2 stars for 'hats off to Roy Harper' - 4 stars for 'non-consentual' sex play with fish (google led zeplin + mud shark) - 2 for Jimmy Page for underage relations. = +3 I usually bang on about judging the art, not the artist, I have made an exception to my rule today.
Since I’ve Been Loving You is an all-time favourite track of mine, it has a funny and memorable anecdote to go with it, but the story is not appropriate for a public review!! 😳 All 3 stars are for that track. The pedal squeaking is endearing rather than annoying, but once you hear it, you can never unhear it! Not as big a fan of this album as the other 2 Zeppelin albums we’ve had so far, and still gets a minus star for the band members being pervy creeps.
Listens: 2 Standout Tracks: Since I've Been Loving You, Immigrant Song, Gallows Pole Since I've Been Loving You has a great blusey feel to it. It's probably the pinnacle of the album for me. I've heard Immigrant Song before, and so it helped that it was the first song on the album for me - to get into mindset of 70s hard rock, but it feels... overplayed somehow? I've heard it (or renditions of it) in at least two movies: Thor Ragnarok and The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.
Honestly, I've never listened to a lot of Led Zeppelin. I actually thought I might like it more just because of how huge they are, but it really wasn't for me. Some great moments, but as a whole, it didn't pull me in.
...
I am a fan and there are some great tunes on this but there's some dead air as well.
It isn't their best album to date, but still has some classics
Obviously I've heard of the band, but only one of the songs was familiar to me. I wouldn't listen again, but it was enjoyable.
There are 5/6 amazing songs on this, since I've been loving you is one of my all time favourites tracks... But there are also a bunch of stuff that also exists in a very meh kind of way. Since we're judging whole albums I have to knock it down a bit. I think my "out of 5 stars" ratings are very inconsistent
A good one, but not a great one. Medium three. Faves: immigrant song, and i have always loved tangerine for some reason.
Decent album but got a little boring towards the end
2/1001 It's okay overall. I don't like how whiny the singer is. Immigrant song was a great start (and the only track I kind of liked), unfortunately the rest of the album isn't as good.
Only got a portion of the way through this album. It reminded me of the things I love about Rainbow, but didn't quite land with me. Will return to finish it.
I'm not sure if the apathy I have towards a large chunk of Led Zeppelin's discography stems from all the '70s (and beyond) LZ clones, whom I dislike more than LZ themselves. I mean, I've always been very clear that I disliked Robert Plant as a frontman, so by extension, I'd dislike everything he spawned to a greater degree. He's easily one of the least interesting of the big early '60s and late '70s rock vocalists. I just don't like his style, his adlibs, nor the way he pieces together his melodies - they just do not work for me. And the music here, like with LZ 2, lacks a certain punch that I'm always hoping for out of these records, a punch that would be absolutely necessary to make Plant's vocals work, imo. Some interesting and genuinely solid moments still. 'Friends' went in a sort of eastern direction instrumentally, which made it stick out in the mix. And I think 'Since I've Been Loving You' is one of the band's best songs, with that soaring guitar and the drama behind the whole thing. It works really well as an LZ "long song". 'Tangerine' is nothing more than your average LZ slowballad, though I enjoyed how out of character it felt for the band at times. It almost reminded me of a slower track off of The Rolling Stones 'Sticky'. And I certainly enjoyed it more than the following slower acousitic cut, 'That's the Way' (though I did enjoy that guitar tone hanging in the background of this one). I enjoyed the blusier tracks on this album more than I usually do from Led Zepplin, especially the off-kilter closer 'Hats off to (Roy) Harper' Not bad by any means, but just another record in this band's catalogue that reaffirms my very lukewarm feelings towards them. And that's fine.
Better than I expected but not my kind of thing
Good, not great imo. Hard to compete with Zeppelin 4 which would follow. Definitely more fleshed out than Zeppelin 1 though, which we’ve also listened to already. To this albums credit, it’s very textured, with just the right amount of unique instrumentation - if there’s anything it has over Zep 4, it’s that. Also to this albums credit, it doesn’t concern itself with trying to sound like the Beatles. We had a BeeGees album from around the same time Zep 3 came out and it was sooo similar to a late Beatles record at points. Zep 3 is its own thing, going for its own sound. “Since I Been Loving You” is my not obvious pick to listen to from this record. Nothing here is bad, nothing here amazed me though
3.5
This is actually not my fav of the zep albums but still enjoy it. I liked reading about the subtle turn into folk music and use of the mandolin. Seems apt for the early 70s.
As soon as the music starts on this album, it's an amazing journey offered by Led Zeppelin to our hears with different styles. Really a pleasant album…. But I’m pretty sure that’s not the best one of Led Zeppelin (only 3 stars due to that )
Immigrant song is a classic and Tangerine is great. Since I’ve Been Loving You quite a track. The first half is pretty solid in all. However, I’m not a fan of the vocals. He sings great and has a great voice, but I don’t think they sound good, and that’s why I’ll probably never listen to the album in its entirety again.
gun to head i couldn’t tell you the difference between led zeppelin, acdc, aerosmith, guns n’ roses, and the rolling stones
3.5
Since I've been loving you is great
Liked it more than I thought I would. Favourite track: Tangerine
Really enjoyed the variety on this album. Album starts super strong with a great four song run, the first stumble in the track listing for me is Out On The Tiles which is fine but not up to the bands usual standards. The layered vocals on the hook/ refrain is quite weak and tinny and the ooh yeah repeat line is a bit predictable and annoying by the end of the song. Other than that I think the last two songs are the other weak points in the album, a shame to end on a low note after the blistering opening track. Album is overall pretty great and I like the variety in the songs, not as much experimentation of later albums but not as tight rock and roll as some of the other albums, leaving this one in an unusual spot. It’s still good but not outstanding, overall 3.5/5
The music is good and varied, but who cares what the songs are about?
This album is kind of disappointing. I really like "Immigrant Song" and I kinda like "Since I've Been Loving You", but the rest of the album is just "meh". I expected more.
A really nice album but I'm not a huge fan of them
Familiar i listen to led zeppelin somwtimes
Immigrant Song makes a great start to the album, but the rest of the songs are drastically different. The folk influence/acoustic focus takes away from the impact Led Zeppelin’s sound usually has, and they don’t adapt to match it very well. There are still some great sections and riffs throughout the album, but they happen in spite of the overall sound direction, not because of it.
Probably my least favorite of the first 4 Zeppelin albums. it’s not bad by any stretch, just pales in comparison to it’s predecessors/successors
Good stuff
My first Led Zeppelin album. Honestly not a favorite for me personally- I could hear the influence traditional american rock had on the album, but a lot of the songs started to sound the same to me. Overall- decent but not much stood out
Good album. Wouldn't be their best for me. Stand out song - Immigration song
It's alright but I wasn't blown away and I probably won't return to this album again of my own volition. Nothing on here really caught my attention. Standouts Immigrant Song 3/5
I have never listened through this album completely and I've listened to a couple new-to-me Led Zeppelin songs, what a treat!
Some songs I like on here. Enjoyed the more stripped down tunes. Needed a few more stand out songs, but overall pretty good. 3/5 Might listen again
i like it when they folk
Great album, never loved Led Zepp
They're very good at what they do.
i had nr IV last week, and the process went the same way with nr III. didn’t particularly enjoy. on a second listen, i enjoyed it a lot. and now i feel like i never want to listen to them ever again. i’ve never come across a band before that has made me feel so indecisive haha.
Favorite Track: Immigrant Song
A classic.
So yeah, if you're a full-on rock fan, this is the shit. It's what led the way for many that followed. But. It's not that markedly different from their debut, which is also on this list and it does feel like they're ovrrrepresented a bit. But then... I'd rather have another LedZep album than yet another album from Simon and/or Garfunkel.
Music that my mom likes
This album starts of with the Immigrant song, one of the greatest rock songs ever if you ask me. Its a hard song to follow and this album has some songs that I would rather skip but that's mostly to get to some of the other really good songs still left on the album. Its a really mixed bag for me but all and all I enjoyed it as a whole with some great stand out songs.
This was a surprisingly tough album for me to get through. The strangest part being that this album is pretty standard when it comes to runtimes and was competent on the whole. However, for some inexplicable reason, I'd tap out almost immediately whenever I'd try to put this on. Led Zeppelin are one of the bands I've had in the deepest reaches of my backlog and this isn't a very promising start, I must admit. On the bright side, these guys singlehandedly invented my favourite make of song: the 5+ minute-long rock epic, so I'm still open to giving these guys a go. I definitely have to as far as this list is concerned. Immigrant Song is a track that I've become pretty familiar with in passing, though I was expecting the song to be a lot more substantial than it wound up being. Maybe throw in a sick minute-long guitar solo and an epilogue as the invaders move towards new pastures and we'd be talking, but I was pretty shocked to discover that it ends abruptly after 2 1/2 minutes. Regardless, it still stands as the best song on the album by a wide margin. The rest of the album is comprised of tolerable acoustic tunes that all blend together, which was a twist I was not expecting.
The hits were amazing. The rest of the album, I was distracted and didn't really pay that close attention. Which to me says.. I wasn't a huge fan.
Wow! Starts so strong with Immigrant Song, which I know so well, but then ramps down from there. My lean is definitely towards their later stuff, so it's interesting to listen to the turning point.
Some classics that I grew up hearing, fine to listen to, but not something I'd seek out.
This is a good album, but I can’t rate it very high knowing there are better Zeppelin albums out there. It seems like it’s mostly on the list because it’s a departure from LZ I/II, which were pretty straight-ahead ass kicking blues rock. I like straight-ahead ass kicking blues rock. Frankly if John Bonham isn’t trying to destroy his drumset, then why listen to LZ?! Nary a bad song on this record, but nothing that elevates it for me.
One of my rotating fav zep albums, 3stars
In my review for Led Zeppelin IV I stated that Led Zeppelin did not miss on their first four albums. I forgot about 3. This one was a slump in the first four albums. There’s a few great songs on here, the rest are b-sides at best.
2.5. Boring boomer shit as per usual.
I don't know how to put into words the thoughts I have on Led Zeppelin. They're very enigmatic for somebody who didn't grow up listening to them. I feel like a lot of people say the like Zeppelin because they think they're supposed to. There's lots of musical talent to appreciate here but there's also something...lacking and I don't quite know what it is.
We were thinking about going to see the Led Zeppelin documentary that’s in cinemas just now. So I stuck a playlist with early stuff on and listened to some of this again. It seemed that all the good stuff was on the other albums though. A bit too much noodling around here for my taste again. In other news, we decided not to see the film.
Good bluesy rock with the occasional folk influence. Immigrant song and since i've been loving you are the top songs.
Starts as a 5, dips to a 2, lands at a 3.5
Good album I saved 3 songs. I like the instrumentals they have in the band and the drummer is great.
dontt know much about the history of this specific band up until this point but its obvious whatever they communicated wasnt being accepted by whoever
Better than expected
The best guitar album we've had by far, enjoyed this one.
Not my favourite LZ album
Liked this
2.8 best track - immigrant song , by miles
Best song of the album was the first song. Felt pretty plain to me.
A solid rock album, sort strong with Immigrant Song, and has som other hits and nuggets (Since I've been Loving You , That's the Way) but of rme not one of their better works (See LedZepplin, Houses of the Holy, physical Graffiti)
Had Led Zeppelin II two days ago so wasn’t expecting Led Zeppelin III so soon. Led Zeppelin II blew me away but this one was a bit underwhelming. Immigrant Song is a banger way to start an album but it wasn’t quite as entertaining as Led Zeppelin II. It was still a solid album but probably because I had LZII so recently, it was hard to get that one out of my mind and I kept comparing it to that
3- Stars (7/15)
Mid Zeppelin.
One monster song, the rest good/not great. Immigrant Song is a stud, and I do love it. The rest is easy listening with a lean towards the Blues.
Iconic start to an album.
How you gonna start an album with an absolute fucking banger like Immigrant Song then roll into nothing but sleepy time snoozers. This album gave me the equivalent of rock & roll blue balls. 2.5 ⭐️ rounded up for Immigrant Song
Some good tracks on here but must confess I’m not a huge fan of Led Zeppelin’s
“Immigrant Song” is probably my favorite Zeppelin song. It n my least favorite Zeppelin album. Rest of this album is filler.
Great album, however Led Zeppelin have a lot of other albums that outshine this one. It starts off really strong with "Immigrant Song" but it goes a bit downhill from there. "Since I've Been Loving You" is a real banger as well though.
Second album (1/2/25) is Led Zeppelin III. To this day all I really know about Led Zeppelin is the shit I know from playing guitar for like a decade. Stairway to Heaven, Immigrant Song, etc. The hits, yknow? That, and it's one of those kinda... lughead hard rock albums that seemed to define the 70s. Never was big on it growing up but half of doing this is trying to broaded my horizons! Roxy — Today at 6:02 PM Listening to Since I've Been Loving You, it's just a remember that I've always had a weird relationship with blues. As a guitarist and bassist I have this massive respect for the genre, but actually listening to it... Feels like homework, I guess. This isn't much different, unfortunately; it's technically good, but I don't enjoy it lmao Roxy — Today at 6:15 PM Of course, then the rest of the album is much folkier... Which you would think I would like, considering my alt-country preferences, but like... This just feels very RenFair (derogatory).
I mean - not as good as II, but solid.
gonna give this a 3 but its more of a 3.5 tbc hard rock vocals over folk rock is a cool experiment. like most hard rock i get the appeal but it doesn't really do much for me. ngl the more folk influenced tracks were my favorites on this album
Nothing comes close to Immigrant Song + Since I've Been Loving You.
I am not a Led Zeppelin fan. I've attempted discography listens over the years and find Zeppelin generally lacking. This record, though. This is definitely Zeppelin's most restrained record, as most of the tracks are acoustic or on the more quiet or laid back side. The sequencing on this album is insanely good. Songs that don't seem like they should follow each other work inexplicably well. The transition from "Immigrant Song" to "Friends", followed by the zany rocker "Celebration Day", effectively. closing the first suite The slow build of "Since I've Been Loving You" reintroduces the album, though this is the kind of thing I don't like about . "Out on the Tiles" swaggers "Tangerine" just...feels good. Nostalgic and heartfelt. The only disappointment is the last two tracks, but they almost completely put me off.
Godt album, men skærebrænderen gør bare ikke noget særligt for mig.
Very solid.
pretty cool loved immagratin sonf
all reality this album is fucking weird, doesn't have real flow, it's just songs mish mashed together that being said i fucking love this album
Love Led Zeppelin although III isn't as strong as some of their other work I don't think Robert Plant's voice really suits the folk style of a lot of these songs, it's a bit intense and works better in the heavier tracks for me This is certainly not bad though, some of the guitar playing is amazing and any band willing to evolve their style and try different things should be commended. Suppose I just can't help comparing it against II, IV and Physical Graffiti which are classics
Going into this and I wonder if I’m going to keep my opinion that Led Zeppelin makes great songs that are just too long. Well I was totally wrong. I really only feel that way with Since I’ve Been Loving You. Liked That’s the Way.
Gut aber nix besonderes beginnt gut
I'm conflicted on this one. The only song I was familiar with was Immigrant Song (and WHAT a song), so I was excited to hear the rest of the album. It opens so strong with Immigrant Song, but then nothing really grabbed me after that, so I decided to give it a second listen. Second time through I found Friends, Tangerine, That's the Way and Bron-Y-Aur Stomp were stronger (better? more interesting?) than on my initial listen. This one is definitely not my favorite Led Zeppelin album.
Hard and folky rock from 1970.
A few great songs, a few meh songs
aaAAAA a bastaaaaaaaaaaaa
16-year-old me was a fan, opinion unchanged after this listen! Since I've Been Loving You, Bron-Y Aur, Immigrant Song 👌🏻
Not really my style
Fine. Drones on a bit and blends into one. Fave: Out on the Tiles
Great album!
Never been a fan of Led Zeppelin and this has not changed that. Don't hate it but don't care about it.
I enjoyed it more than I expected, hopefully it will grow on me
Immigrant Song and then the other stuff
It was alright
50 That's the Way: Vibras a música de fondo. 35
11/17
The folk songs are actually pretty good but I still can’t stand the hard rock voice. I’m sorry. Favorite song: That’s the way Least favorite song: Celebration day
6/10 Some hits, some misses Very consistent album
4 songs in had me feeling like it is no surprise at all why this was my dad's favorite band when he was young. The first half of this album is absolutely ridiculous. I don't like "Tangerine" at all, and the back half gets a little too folksy for me personally, but it's still pretty good (if you remove "Tangerine").
I'm not sure I'm a massive fan of the enhanced Bluesy elements of this album. It's weird, I feel like I should enjoy this album more than I do and I've tried very hard to do just that but it's not clicking. Like most albums I've had on this list, it's just meh. Nothing really stands out at me - Immigrant Song was good when I first listened to it a few years ago but the more I listen to it the more tedious it gets. I'll always respect Led Zeppelin for the inspiration they've given for so many great bands. I'm sure there'll be an album or two of theirs I'll like more.
S'a pretty cool album all in all, but I feel like it could have given a little more. Best Song: Since I've Been Loving You Worst Song: Hats Off To (Roy) Harper
I enjoyed the range they present here, they are very versatile and willing to dive deep to explore different genres. It's also its biggest flaw because it feels very uneven. Torn between a 3 or 4, but... Best song: Tangerine Worst song: Hats off To (Roy) Harper
6/10 immigrant song is good, the rest of the album is underwhelming. The more I listen to led Zeppelin, the less I like them. 11-04-2024
Revisiting this after many listens as child/teen. John Paul Jones & John Bonham (Squeak King pedal appearance!) are the only reasons I'd ever enjoy Led Zeppelin these days. They both sound good here as usual. They are moving towards the Led Zep "Folk" style on 1/2 the tracks which is not my preference for them.
Nice old school rock
Not my favorite Led Zeppelin album in fact I believe it to be a weaker album for the group. It starts with an incredible high not only for it to taper into some of the groups more forgettable tracks.
6/10 Highlights: Immigrant Song Since I've Been Loving You Tangerine Friends
This is another classic for those times when I'm in the right mood. Still a few I hadn't heard before, but it's very easy to get through.
feel crazy. despite my relatively anti-rockist tastes and inexorable state of zoomerism, i love Led Zeppelin's hits. "Immigrant Song" is iconic. "Out on the Tiles" rocks. "Tangerine" is surprisingly effective. "Bron-Y-Aur Stomp" is ok enough to put on a playlist. then every single one of their deep cuts sounds the exact same. it's either a kinda meh flowerchild folk song, an even more meh blues jam, or weird genre attempts like "The Crunge" or "D'yer Maker"* on later albums. people hold enough stock in these deep cuts to rate them relatively high on RYM and put it near 3.96 (as of 10/21/24) on the evil known as 1001 Albums, but i just don't get it. "Immigrant Song" is incredible, but surely it's not enough to turn this album into a classic? i am glad that nobody is excusing "Hats Off to (Roy) Harper", though. awful, awful song.
My first time listening to Led Zeppelin. Just expected more due to the hype around this band.
I do love Led Zeppelin but I think this album is carried by the immigrant song. Which probably carries it to a 3, but if I was to remove one LedZep album from The list it would be this one.
A couple of stand-out songs, but mostly 'meh'.
Very classic album. Some great tracks.
Besides the intro, this is Led Zeppelin, the band known for their hard rock songs, without the hard rock. It’s good, but not much compared to their other material. I’d call it a successful venture into a more acoustic sound but one I’m not too crazy about.
I liked that they went in a different direction here, but, not my cup of tea.
Pleasantly suprised. It's not as annoying as I remember, still slightly annoying though.
This was fun, but it peaked early. Immigrant Song and Gallows Pole are always awesome but the rest of the album just felt kinda like a mess. I am a huge Zeppelin fan, but I don't love this album. Three stars.
Since I've Been Loving You - very viby, sick guitar solo Immigrant Song - classic
Time for father rock. I’m actually jacked up because this first song is one of the coolest rock songs to come out of that time. Lyrically, musically, vocally. “Goes hard” as the kids say. Friends??? Cool minor guitars. I don’t know man. How do you describe good music. I prefer describing garbage. I mean it’s going too long. It’s a good song that probably require drugs to enjoy minutes 2 through 4. Although the outro into the manic intro of the next track is cool. NICE. Some wicked blues riffing and excellent vocals as per. Good song again. It’s hard to wax poetic when I’d rather tear a strip off of something. Man this is best played blaring out of an old drunk guys expensive speakers in his 900,000 dollar house. I think. I have only imagined that scenario. Although I have heard drunk dads with whiskey enjoy the hell out of this song. Hey. I like it at work too. It gets a little wanky, but listen, if I was at a concert AND drunk. This would be a 5-bagger. As of now, it’s not. This one has a nice melody accompanied by muddy and driving guitars/drums. I like this one. Goes pretty hard. Meh. This one is pretty boring for being about the gallows. Filler track. Got to hit that 40 minutes. I guess. I know nothing about music, writing or the intersection where the two shall meet. Everybody run, Jimmy Page found bluegrass instruments. These next two songs get a combo review because they held into each other for me. Better. Still in weird Americana territory somehow, but this is cool at least. Have to remember this is almost 60 years old. Jesus. 9: this Better. Still in weird Americana territory somehow, but this is cool at least. Have to remember this is almost 60 years old. Jesus. This is OK. Honestly, not the greatest either, but remains enjoyable and at least a little hard rocking. Even though they copied Greta Van Fleet, these Lead fellows sure can play. This album is a strange one. I expected it to hit far harder. It still hit and the great songs are truly great but there was something missing that I may look for on their earlier efforts. 3 HIGHLIGHTS: Immigrant Song, Out on the Tiles,
Highlights: Immigrant song, Celebration Day, Since I've been loving you, Out on the tiles, Tangerine -Exactly what I'd expect from a Led Zeppelin album -Great guitar work -All of the songs have that Led Zeppelin feel to them -All the songs are good, but nothing really that interesting besides the highlights -Some parts sound weird because of the weird use of keyboards they do Rating:7/10
Liked Physical Graffiti better even though it was way too long. Maybe it's because I had two of these in a row but these all just sound like jam band songs and it gets so redundant for me. Since I’ve Been Loving You might be the best.
It's ok. Couple of songs you would know, but definitely not a stand out Zepplin album.
Yeah it was okay.
Rocky vibe, once again not really my preference
This album has one helluva opener. High energy kickoff. They show their blues chops with tunes like Gallows Pole.
Immigrant song is just heavy rock perfection. Its been a part of my life since I was a kid. Rest of the album doesnt quite get all the way up there. Except for their version of "The Maid Freed from the Gallows", Gallows Pole. Great.
I love Zeppelin, so of course I enjoy this album. But in comparison to the rest of their catalog, for me, this is in the bottom tier of Zeppelin albums alongside Presence and In Through the Out Door. Some standout tracks, and I like the dynamics of the album, but overall doesn't hold a candle to the behemoths of the Zeppelin catalog (namely II, IV, and Physical Graffiti)
Good: since I've been loving you. Boring: rest
Okay album. Not a fan of the vocals but the backing is great
This is between a 3 and a 4 for me. It's got some huge hits on it, and then it's got some ok stuff. I think I might actually be losing my affinity for Robert Plant's wailing.
Led Zeppelin is a complicated figure in popular music. They lifted a LOT from black artists without due credit, and owe a lot to people who never saw just compensation, but at the same time I consider many songs of theirs my favorites. Most of those fall on LZ4 and Physical Graffiti, but LZ3 has some good stuff. Hell, I'd say LZ3 is almost better than LZ4 due to the more well-rounded nature of it. That "almost" comes from Immigrant Song. I could never hear the song again and it'd be too soon. I overplayed this song to hell and back, and I feel less than nothing hearing it now. Besides that, though, there's a lot of solid cuts. Celebration Day and Out on the Tiles are the two highlights I found, but pretty much everything that isn't Immigrant Song was a good time. Solid listen overall. If it had a Kashmir or a When The Levee Breaks, it might go even higher, but as is it's just an occasional runback.
3/5
Immigrant Song slaps, the rest of the album cant quite reach it
First Song Good. Otherwise, Slow.
