Not the stereotypical sound of Zeppelin but demonstrates how versatile and diverse their discography actually was. 5 decades later and still the wonder they were. I think the songs lose the momentum of Immigrant Song, but overall a diverse album of sounds and a great listen in a good run time.
Interesting mix of many different styles/genres, not what I expected. But certainly not bad either. In the end though, the lack of a couple powerhouse songs and the missing red line makes this only a 4 star album

Since I Been Loving You is a keeper but the rest of the album is nowhere near that good. Still, this is way above whatever bar is used to pick the best 1001.
After two albums full of balls-to-the-wall hard rock, Led Zeppelin starts its third outing with a shining example of the same-and then says “okay, enough of that, let’s get weird.” From swampy delta blues to sprightly English folk, Zeppelin broaden their horizons and have a damn good time doing it.

Not my favorite Led Zeppelin album, but a solid one for sure. Coming off of an ambient music album, this is pretty freaking great.

I was going into this album blind. I haven't properly listened to Led Zeppelin before, although they are constantly recommended to me, primarily from my brother. I wasn't expecting the album to sound the way it did. My ignorant perception of Led Zeppelin is that they only do hard rock. I was surprised that the album seemed to become more folk rock oriented as it went on which is right up my alley. The album began in the hard rock vein, opening with 'Immigrant Song' (the only song I recognized from the album). 'Since I've Been Loving You' presents itself as very "Janis Joplin-esque". A slow blues rock number which is worth every one of its seven minutes. Folk Rock emerges as the dominant theme with the later half of the album, particularly with the trilogy of 'Tangerine', 'That's The Way', and 'Bron-Y-Aur Stomp'. Throughout the entire album the famously highly regarded musicianship of the band is in full force. Aggressive guitar and bass tones paired with tight and purposeful drumming are an awesome pairing with Robert Plants unique vocals. This was a good album. FAVORITE SONGS: - Since I've Been Loving You - Gallows Pole - Tangerine - Bron-Y-Aur Stomp 4.25/5

this has much less of the major issue i had with led zeppelin II, so much more of this is original, and the blues that they stole is more properly credit and obviously more of a tribute than a rip-off led zeppelin really finds themselves here, to pretty fabulous results. it's not their fault, but the punch of immigrant song has been ruined over the years due to its inclusion in commercial products like thor ragnarok (jack black singing it in school of rock is okay) out on the tiles is an underrated zeppelin classic - holy shit the lead guitar on that one is so cool. my main issue with this one is that robert plant is a little more grating here than on other albums. he's such a talent, but he's so often scream-singing here that it starts to get on the nerve a bit i like the more acoustic direction on a few of these tracks, especially bron-y-aur stomp. page is such a great guitarist, so hearing him bust out an acoustic is awesome and a big change of pace from a lot of early zeppelin much better than lz 2. hats off gents
My least favourite of the first four Led Zep albums. That said, worth it alone for the epic "Since I've Been Loving You".

notes - third album by led zeppelin (duh) - performed and produced by the band, sent off to engineers for mix and master - the band wanted a big change, used more acoustic guitars, open tunings - love that you can hear little elements like the squeaking kick pedal, guitar pick noise, and amp buzzing - adds to the vibe - the acoustic direction is great, and they do a really good job of translating what works in their louder songs to that type of arrangement - john bonham takes a back seat on this album for the most part, which is a shame but hes great at knowing when and when not to play fav - since ive been loving you - those last couple minutes… chills Least fav - Out on the tiles - sounded like the band was going back to what they knew would work 4.5/5
This is a really good album. The songs are high quality on an individual level. However, something is lacking for me and I feel light I’m splitting hairs. It could be that I measure them by their other albums that are stupendous. But I am not excited consistently by this album. I’m giving it a 4, and I feel kind of bad about it.
Ahh the "acoustic Zeppelin album" (as was poorly nicknamed by friends in middle school) - this was a slow burn if you grew up on "THE CLASSIC HITS" on radio but damn this is so much better than a "superset of zeppelin" on the radio any day. Maybe it's the lack of overkill from old DJs, but likely it's the variety in here that I enjoy. Sure we start off with one of those short hard rock classics in "Immigrant Song" but "Friends" is a really odd change of pace - and a fantastic one. Odd and semi-off-putting chords create this almost Middle Eastern droning effect. Love it. Aside from Friends, the rest of "first side" isn't too out of character - I'm not a big fan of "Since I've Been Loving You" - bluesy yeah yeah we get it get on with it already. Far too long and uninteresting. But surrounded by a few great rockers it's not unfamilar Zeppelin. But the real changes start with "Gallows Pole" through the rest of the album - a lighter touch (meaning laying off the electric guitars / big drums) and some mysterious and lovely chord progressions - very folky and very much *not* bombastic. There's nothing I actively dislike on the album, but I just can't quite bring myself to give it a 5 - perhaps primarily Plant's voice has always been a bit much to take at times and although it's *mostly* perfectly mixed on this album, his blues warblings i'm just all done with by "Hats of to Harper." Overall this is among my favourite Zeppelin works - especially the first 4 cut sequence from side 2 - and I'm not convinced they got much better after this. 9/10 4 stars.

Another chance to drag out some vinyl and listen to it, a nice reissue gifted to me by my brother long ago, complete with the recreated spinning image wheel. Zeppelin goes straight back to my musical roots as a high school intellectual stoner, and I still love the music unironically, unsophisticated though this taste may be.

The immigrant song slaps
Rock, 1970. This is not a Led Zeppelin's masterpiece like I or IV, but it's definitely one of their best projects and it contains also one of their biggest hits "Immigrant Song". Great record.
I'm not much of a Led Zep fan but this really worked for me.

I haven't really listened to a full album by Zeppelin (aside from the 2 I already had on this list) in a while so I'm going by memory a bit. This is a continuation of Zeppelin improving. I think the first album is pretty "meh" but the second was a bit better. There's some absolutely great songs here, including one of myvall time favorites from the band: That's The Way. Not to say that the rockers like Immigrant Song and Out on The Tiles aren't great, because they are. I like this album a lot. The the next 2 albums are peak Zeppelin to me, but this one is damn good.

More experimental in their sounds and a bit of a departure but some cool stuff. Surprised how much acoustic guitar from Jimmy is on this album. Still shreds.

This album is known for bringing out the lighter and more whimsical side of Led Zeppelin. I know I spent many hours in my youth listening to the acoustic oriented songs on what used to be called side 2. But Immigrant Song hits as hard as anything in the Led Zep canon, and Since I’ve Been Loving You still thrills me with its peaks and valleys, the full band hitting crescendo after crescendo and Jimmy Page taking that solo at what feels like breakneck speed. Such fun. Sandwiched between the releases that gave us Whole Lotta Love and Stairway, this album may seem overlooked. But it’s a real gem.
Probably the zeppelin album I like most
I prefer IV but this has some Great songs, the Classic "Immigrant Song" and "Gallows Pole" are both good songs. I also like the nod to another English Genius "Hats Off To (Roy) Harper.
I’ll confess to never having been to keen on Zep’s bluesier cuts. To my surprise however, this album demonstrates a versatility and nuance that I thought beyond this band. Side 2 of this album in particular really won me round. The folky stuff is really quite outstanding - sometimes understated and atmospheric before really indulging in some grandiose elements. Thoroughly enjoyed this, though Plant’s voice begins to grate after a while.
It opens with Immigrant Song, which has to be one of the greatest openers ever. After that it's great, but veers into turgid 12 string folk stomps a little too often to be brilliant.
This album is hygge. It is a cozy blanket with a caramel cappuccino around a camp fire.
I know this album is a classic but it just doesn't resonate with me. Yes, Immigrant Song is awesome, Tangerine is a great song, and the album is very technically sound... but I just didn't care by the end.
Said before, I’m not a big Led Zep fan, but… No denying how great Immigrant Song is with its charging rhythm and howls. And I really like the variety of folky, bluesy, and 70’s metal guitar. So that said, probably my favorite Led Zep record if I had to pick one.

Terrific piece of music. But maybe it's just the nostalgia talking. Remembering putting the record on the turntable, turning it on, wiping the dust off, putting the needle on the record, (and somehow still getting static noises)... but the anticipation of hearing the rush from the first song.
Enjoyable to really get an album that you know what you're going to get going in. This has more varied pacing, but excels with rock, blues and folks. Was really impressed by Since I've Been Loving You... haven't had much exposure to that and it is stellar. Tangerine and Immigrant Song are the clear other favorites. Very enjoyable.

great album, zepellin is really innovative
Always considered this one to be the weakest of the four self-titled albums. It still has the absolute bangers that are "Immigrant Song", "Tangerine" and "Since I've Been Loving You" and none of the songs are bad, so that really just speaks on how good the other self-titled albums are. These guys are truly legends in the citrus rock genre. Lemons, tangerines.. should have done a song about limes as well to complete the holy trifecta.

This is our second Led Zeppelin album on this list, and I find myself more impressed with this one even though the album was the other's predecessor. I may be paying more attention now or perhaps differently, more than 100 albums later, but I feel more expression and creativity here. A worthy addition to this list. There were some notable songs that stood out. if you're not clapping during "Bron-Y-Aur Stomp," then I don't know what you're doing. A shoutout to "Immigrant Song," which is such a classic banger of a song that deserves all its praise. It's definitely the hardest on the album. "Friends," which I maybe heard on the radio once or twice, stood out to me. I keep listening to it and finding more to enjoy about it. I thought "Bron-Y-Aur Stomp" would've been my favorite but "Friends" grabbed the title a few listens in. The guitar opening on "Celebration Day." The simplicity of "Tangerine." The songs are varied and enjoyable. some were okay to me overall, but nothing was bad.
Prior to 1001, this was one of my lesser liked (but still liked) Led Zeppelin albums. I would say that is still the case. That said, this is still a solid album which an amazing variety of instrumentation and vocal effects, and I have a new appreciation for it after listening to it in the scope of this project. Though it may not be a favorite album, Immigrant Song is hands down a favorite song from this album, and one of the best in Led Zeppelin's entire discography. Also, though maybe "underrated" is not the right word, I have always thought Gallows Pole doesn't get enough recognition; they manage to accomplish so much build up and excitement in a song with very minimal instrumentation. Bron-Y-Aur Stomp, as far as I'm concerned, is a secret sleeper agent banger on this album. Again, III is not my favorite, but Led Zeppelin makes it hard not to respect and appreciate their chemistry and inventiveness. What they do was cutting edge at the time, and it just WORKS.

Led Zeppelin II is the ultimate album. Following that is a difficult task, and III is a far cry from II. That being said, it's a different animal all together. Much more subdued, exploratory, but still cohesive. As a band, these guys are perfection. Every part of music is demonstrated to mastery with every song they perform, so it's impossible to not like this stuff even though they have peaks and valleys. What's great about III is that it builds and while you listen, there's a journey that goes out with a bang!

Probably the most eclectic of the Led Zeppelin albums, it contains the usual bunch of hard rockers interspersed with straight blues and a heap of folky acoustic material (that mostly works), part of it with a subtle middle-eastern bent, foreshadowing the direction some of the band’s music would later take. As with all Led Zep albums, III is a super solid record, and up there with their best, but often gets overlooked between their debut and Led Zeppelin II and IV.

Good, obviously. Tangerine and That's The Way are beautiful songs, Jimmy Page is just incredible, though there's not enough on this album to lift it above a 4 overall for me.

Solid album - didn’t blow me away, but I would listen to it again.
It's not got the big hits of Zep II or IV, but this is really good...lesser songs like Celebration Day and Out on the Tiles are really good, and then the bangers like Immigrant Song, That's the Way, etc. just round it out. Hats off to Roy is the only real dud on the album, and even it's not as bad as I remember.
It's all Led to me. Which means some I love and others just sound the same. Idk, I guess it's a solid 4 for me

The album that made Jimmy Page hate the press, simply because they couldn't understand why Zep went acoustic. Probably Cameron Crowe's favorite Zeppelin album. The highs (Immigrant Song, That's The Way, Tangerine) really soar, and are among the best of their catalog. The rest is something of a mixed bag, and a foretaste of the feast to come on the next album...

I've had a love/hate relationship with Led Zeppelin for a long time. Fortunately, this one is in my favorite albums of the group. The folkish songs on this record are phenomenal and Immigrant Song is a killer opener. Not a perfect album though, maybe the last 3 songs weren't needed. Anyway, it deserves 4 stars for sure.
Love me some Led Zeppelin. Truth be told, this is probably only my 5th favorite Zeppelin album (Top 4 are Physical Graffiti, Houses of the Holy, Led Zeppelin II, and Led Zeppelin IV, roughly in that order) but it's still great. 4 stars.

When you open your album with “Immigrant Song” it is really hard to follow that. Zeppelin needed 9 more tracks to fill the void but they do it here. If not for IV’s more solid lineup this would’ve been Zeppelins best album.

Don’t think I’ve ever listened to this album in full. Celebration Day has always been a favorite and makes me think of playing bass with Xan at 16. Ultimately still a tier below LZ II and Houses of the Holy in my opinion if only for the creativity of the songs. Still has that earlier LZ sound I like so much more than the albums after HotH.
This was my favorite Led Zeppelin record for years before I heard "Presence" and never looked back. "Since I've Been Loving You" is in the running for my favorite song by the band. You want to know what makes me feel like the Beatles were mortals more than anything? The fact that this record was released the same year as the last Beatles record. I like to think I would have thought "F the Beatles, this is the 70s and I'm a Led Zep man" the way Jimmy Page wanted. Not sure I would have. But, this and Black Sabbath drew a line in the sand. Not to mention Pink Floyd's "Atom Heart Mother." 1970 was a passing of the torch in some ways. Even the Stones had to find their way and work their asses off to make records that hung with the new class of insurgent rock bands. What an exciting time in music.
I love Led Zeppelin, but I really don't know much about them or their discography - which makes it hard to judge this album against their others. But - at the end of the day - they're the Zep, the album rocks. What more do I need to know?

Not their best but it is still really good. I love the latter half run from Gallows -> Bron Y Aur. So solid.
Most definitely the lesser of the better albums from Led Zeppelin (a distinguished list that includes 1 to 4 + Physical Graffiti). But lesser does not mean that it’s anything less than excellent, brimming as it is with classics (Immigrant Song) and signature blues tracks (Since I’ve Been Loving You).
Revenge of the Led. This was nice and boppy! I'm glad the generator made me listen to Led Zeppelin as I enjoyed this. Again I'm torn between a 3 or a 4, I wish the rating system was out of 10 tbh.

Led Zep's first two albums are great, but have quite rightly been regarded as rip-offs of classic blues artists, and they don't bring much of their own sound to the records. This is the first album where they really bring something different to the table, with a wide variety of styles blending together in a pretty perfect way

5 star album by any conventional scale but led gets judged on their own scale
Immigrant song is a hell of a way to start off an album. After that, this becomes a more straight ahead blues album with hard rock layered over it. It works pretty well, and there are plenty of classic songs on this album. One thing that was hard to keep out of my mind while listening to this is that the next three albums that they are going to put out are going to be IV, Houses of the Holy, and Physical Graffiti. This album is not as strong as those, but on its own it's very good. It's clear that this album is previewing where the band is going, but it's not quite there yet 4/5

Another superb entry by Led Zeppelin. Incredible how they could pop out these amazing records a year apart. This album is where LZ starts to explore other genres, blues here, funk there, and overall very much a blend of folk and heavy metal. It's hard to even hate the less interesting songs cause the band members all work so well together, not just the rhythmic drumming or Plant's delivery, but for me it's Page's guitar that firmly establishes him as one of the best, if not the best, guitarist of all time. The highlights of this album are "Immigrant Song", "Since I've Been Loving You", "Tangerine", "That's the Way", and "Bron-Y-Aur-Stomp." Half the album, not bad. "Since I've Been Loving You" is one of my favorite songs of all time; that masterpiece is enough for me to keep coming back to this album. Despite the fact this is my least favorite pre-Presence album, it just goes to show LZ has one of the most consistent discographies in music history.
A couple of gimmicky throwaway tracks… Hats Off should have been an instrumental. But the great Immigrant Song is only like the fifth-best one, and that’s really saying something. I saved several of these for permanent rotation, and I’m so glad I finally heard the drums on Out On The Tiles.

Not my favorite Zeppelin album, but awesome nonetheless. "That's The Way" has quickly become one of my favorite songs of theirs. Just like every Led Zeppelin albums, there are enough hits that can draw you in, that you end up listening to the whole record.
Love this group
One of Led's greatest songs kicks this album off and lets just say I've been waiting since the beginning of the year to review a Led Zepplin album. Three is not in the top albums for me but that is only because I was never as familiar with it as 1 or 2 or Physical Graffiti. After listening to it, I'd still keep it lower on my list only because I was always more a fan of their rock side than folk side but this is still a classic album.
FINALLY. We've made it through 242 albums before hitting our first from Led Zeppelin. Starting with III is interesting because this is personally my least favorite of the self-titled series, at least that was my perception going into it today. Coming out, I'm not so sure. This is a fantastic album, and I knew that going in, but so many more great songs than I recognized or remembered. Crazy that Immigrant Song is the biggest hit on here, I certainly don't think it's the best. An obvious departure from their usual hard rock fare to folksy blues. Lots of acoustic and sliding steel guitars. They really committed to a sound and overall it came out really well. I don't think this is on the same plane as the first two LZ albums, but damn it's also terrific. Favorite tracks: Tangerine, Hats Off to Roy Harper, Out on the Tiles, Immigrant Song, Since I Been Loving You. Album art: Love the cover, and seeing it here larger than usual illuminates incredible detail. Very lively and funky, feels organic in the way the music does as well. But the first four Zeppelin album covers are iconic regardless. 4.5/5

This album starts on a high with Immigrant song, but can't really follow it up - a lot of good riffs but not much that really reaches out and grabs me, although celebration day is close. I'd come back to this album for an enjoyable listen, but it's never going to be one of my favourites.
Plenty of bangers and still as full sounding
The album leads off with its best song. The Immigrant song sets the tone for the album, but none of the other songs live up to it, and leaves you a little disappointed. A lot more bluesy songs on this album.
I think this was one of my favorite Zeppelin albums at one point but I haven't listened to Led Zeppelin in a while. It's definitely a great record but I listening back this time it was a little underwhelming this time. I think there are two reasons * The recording quality leaves a bit to be desired. Sounds a bit thin in places (probably the first time I'm listening to this on a truly hi-fi audio setup) * It's a bit less bombastic than earlier Zeppelin albums. They definitely started to do more acoustic stuff and ballads. The is one of the things I used to really like about this album but probably I just wasn't in the mood for mellow Zeppelin this time out so not going to count this against it too much. Anyway, hard to rate this anything but a 4. A great record.
I genuinely cannot believe how good that album sounded. I played the first track expecting to hear hard rock, what I encountered was bluesy rock and a bit folky as well. My perception of Led Zeppelin has been totally overturned, and for the better as well

Obviously, the musicianship is faultless, and thankfully the professionalism here is part of the band's passion for an eclectic range of music. Yet one would like a more organic tracklisting; the division of the LP into electric and acoustic sides makes the album feel like slightly artificial, as if driven by guile as much as creativity. Also, and you may disagree, the cumulation and ordering of the acoustic tracks causes the last two tracks, Bron-Yr-Aur Stomp and Hats off to (Roy) Harper, to sound a little peculiar, like experiments that don't completely come off. Nevertheless, there's more than enough meat here.

Familiar Led Zeppelin sound, but also a bit of experimentation on this album. Not perfect, but lots to like, with Since I've been Loving You and Tangerine as particular highlights.

I've probably listened to this the second-most of all zeppelin albums, and for good reason. It's really good. Celebration Day and Gallows Pole are the standouts, and despite it being overplayed for 50 years and its presence in Marvel movies Immigrant Song still rocks pretty hard....

Sounds a lot like Greta Van Fleet! (Did I make you cringe?! :D ) More seriously, Zeppelin is great. Had not listened to this CD before, a bit of a departure from their popular stuff, had a lot of fun listening to this on repeat.
Didn’t have the magic of some other Led Zeppelin albums, but still a solid listen.

Opening with the immigrant song is so good. Probably my favorite opening of a Zepplin album. But I don't think it follows the flow of that super well. But man is it a good album. Always thought it was a weird folksy sorta rock, much different than their usual sound anyway. I like it, it's different, not in a bad way. It isn't my favorite Zepplin album.

i know a couple of their popular songs and i like dazed and confused. from this tracklist i only know immigrant song. which is so short btw. doesnt do much for me. second song: meh sound and i dislike the lyrics. synth at the end was delicious. LOOOOVE how it carried over into the next song. i like 'celebration day' a lot better in all possible ways. song fades out which is okay but ill be thinking about the previous transition forever. OH i do know this song too ('since ive been loving you'), love it. nice. love a long intro when its this good. next song is good too it was just the second song really that i didnt care about and even then the ending was cool. overall album is very listenable cause i like chill rock songs but i dont think its all that. didnt blow my mind but its good and perfectly enjoyable. i added 'since ive been loving you' to my playlist for songs over 7 plus minutes :)

My favorite so far is “since I’ve been loving you” it gives off a funkadelic soul type of song while still hitting that guitar making it a rock. I love it.
Was just in the right mood for this one. Enjoyed the majority of the tracks - I get a nice wave of nostalgia every time I listen to Led Zep. Probably one I'll come back to again
Solid start with Immigrant Song. By the 2nd song it feels like a solid 4. Love the blues / blue-grass influence of Led Zep, almost a bit slide guitar. And can tell how they've progressed through the last 2 albums to this one. 4/5
Love multiple songs from this gem. It is definitely not the best Zeppelin album, however, it has many highlights. I'd give it 9/10, however, as I can give it only 5 star ranking I am going to give it 4.
This album rips. Immigrant Song is a killer opening track. This era of music, and Led Zepplin in particular, is known for the excess, but you have to respect a 40 minute album.
It's Zeppelin, you know exactly what you're going to get. I did like this more than I usually like them though. I think doing a whole album here works better than the solitary songs I've heard before.

I had Led Zeppelin 1 come up yesterday, and I'm definitely still a fan of this one, but in comparison, it's not quite the masterpiece that 1 is. It seems more disconnected, and not all the songs are bangers. Still love it though!

Zepplin's great
I've heard this album a few times before, it's pretty varied and the songwriting is noticeably a lot better than most other rock from 1970. Zeppelin were ahead of their time, one of the few artists from this exact time that kinda DOES deserve to have a bunch of albums in this list. Everyone loves Immigrant Song etc, but big fan of all the 12-string acoustic stuff as well. Would get a 5 but some of the second half drags a bit. 4/5.

I mean, it’s Led Zeppelin. They’re a big deal for a reason. For me, the beginning and end of the album were gripping and the middle lost me a bit. I vibe heavily with the intro on Friends–who else can make acoustic guitars go that hard?? Other stand-outs were Bron-Y-Aur Stomp—which did indeed have me stomping and clapping—and Hats Off to (Roy) Harper with its insane production and heavy blues influence.

I'm not too upset that Led Zeppelin is seeming to be one of the bands that we will likely hear most of their discography by the time this is over. I think I like this slightly less than the last two that we've heard, but it was solid throughout, and the last three songs particularly piqued my interest. Strong 3 to a light 4

As a fan of Led Zepplin, I will honestly say this is not one of my favorites of theirs. Other than perhaps the Immigrant Song to me, I could pass over this album any day in favor of others. But I appreciate the relisten for this list.
The catchy songs didn't have anything to say, and the frilly songs weren't pretty enough to catch me as folk rock. For me this fell slightly tediously between two stools.

Led Zep! Have tried to get into them before (with I think IV?), but didn't succeed the first time. Dad loves them though, so there's gotta be something I'm missing. Another rock album, but more classic rock, which I'm not as familiar with. Feels wrong that III is #4. Feel like that's a missed opportunity. Also more numbered albums so yay. 21, 3. Starting with Immigrant Song. Best track: Tangerine 8/10 - Robert Plant isn't shouting on this one. Very nice acoustic track. Was apparently at the end of Almost Famous, which makes sense. Fitting as a credits song, which also happens to be my favourite. Since I've Been Loving You is epic. Think it's finally clicked on the third listen. Love the keyboards. Epic guitar solo. Actually really like it. Seems inspired by I Want You (She's so Heavy) to me if I had to guess (came out a year earlier. Something about the doomy-sounding slow guitar motif that goes through the song. Worst: Hats Off To (Roy) Harper - 3/10 - This was a 1/10 on first listen tbh. Barely sounded like a song. Weird demo guitar sounds paired with a baffling vocal effect. Kind of got it on the second listen, but doesn't really go anywhere and still don't like the vocal effect. Not my favourite. Understand Led Zep a little better now, but still struggled to get into it. Can't vibe with Robert Plant's voice that much. Especially when he's shouting. Got into the bluesy acoustic guitars on this record eventually. Think I am sorely missing context from their first 2 albums, as apparently this one is more acoustic than normal. Immigrant song is a rocker, even if the lyrics are a little cringy. Still probably have 3 more chances to fully understand them. Bad tracks are bad. Good tracks are good. Still willing to give them another shot. They've grown on me slightly. Final score: 6/10

Led Zeppelin III starts out very strong and ends up being a good but not great album, not nearly as great at Physical Graffiti or Led Zeppelin IV.

It's funny - got this the day after I got Led Zeppelin IV. It's definitely more uneven than IV, but overall a good listen. Immigrant song is definitely the highlight for me and I like Since I've Been Loving You.

Prefer the mellow ones. Vocals get a bit annoying when he’s constantly screeching. Immigrant Song is a headbanging intro 🤘 and Since I’ve Been Loving You and Tangerine stood out.

Immigrant song is great and pretty much carries the weight of the whole album. Other good songs too, but its still one of led zeps weakest albums. One i never actually feel like playing. 3.5

A mixed bag here for me, one song I already knew, a couple that were new to me that I liked, and some real stinkers. “Since I’ve Been Loving You” in particular just makes me want to listen to “Ball and Chain,” the superior version of this song. This was my second Led Zeppelin in a week. I'm normally not a classic rock guy, but this was ok.
Not quite what I was hoping it would be after loving their debut so much but it was good enough. Immigrant Song is overrated.
"Immigrant Song" is otherworldly, but the rest of the record are noodling (early experiments with synthesizers sound interesting just not very good). Always felt that this was by far the weakest of their "classic era."

Was disappointed to see this pop up as my first album. Then “Immigrant Song” started and I was like, “Hell yeah!” It went downhill until the end of Side A (“Out of the Tiles”), and then got better again. I like the rock stuff better than the folkier and bluesier stuff. But Bron-Y-Aur Stomp had me tapping my toes. Highlights: -Immigrant Song - Out on the Tiles - Gallows Pole - Bron-Y-Aur Stomp “Since I’ve Been Loving You” was an interminable slog. Album closer “Hats off to (Roy) Harper” - I like the experimental nature of it but it’s not fun to listen to. Love the cover art. Crazy how much Jack White took from all this!

I enjoyed it, but the songs got repetitive and the constant falsetto got old.
Immigrant Song carries, but to be honest I might prefer the folky songs outside of the rocky songs (besides Immigrant Song), because the hard rock songs felt weakly composed/performed to me.
i don't think i like classic rock very much
This one is pretty mid for me. While listening I mostly felt bored. The album tries really hard to be raw, emotional, and acoustic-heavy, but it comes off as exaggerated and overwhelming in a way that just feels dull. It’s very raw and scrappy, which can be a good thing, but here it feels messy rather than powerful. The lyrics are quite weak, and Robert Plant’s vocals often sound more strained and struggling than commanding and heavy like on their other records. Overall it just doesn’t hit like their best work. A few tracks do stand out and carry the album — especially “Immigrant Song,” “Out on the Tiles,” “Gallows Pole,” and “Tangerine” — but they’re not enough to save the whole thing from feeling like a bit of a letdown compared to other albums. Not one of their best by a long shot.
What I put down on my first listen: "More folk-rooted than their previous hard hitting records. Robert really carries with his voice." I remember it being more slow, but actually it's less intense than their first two records. Has more of an introspective mood for sure that's added by the folk rock sound of this album (3.5).
Of the pre-In Through the Out Door albums, LZ3 is the underdog. Anyone whose family had a copy was probably fascinated by it, with its rotating die-cut cover, but it's probably the one folks heard least. Sure, Immigrant Song is an iconic beginner, but even the other popular track, Gallows Pole, is among the lesser known hits. It was certainly spun less often than most of its peers. Maybe because it's an allegory for the corruptability of justice, maybe because it's of the “25 minutes to go” school of songs that just keep speeding up, unstoppable, anxiety causing. Immigrant Song is more classic, but Gallows Pole is probably one of Zep's better folk-adjacent songs. 3 also has Since I've Been Loving You, which is one of their purer blues songs and honestly my biggest surprises. “Hats Off…” also mines a similar bluesiness, but more of a slide guitar, folksong blues… there's more of that acoustic vibe on Side 2 than I would have expected from Zep. And there's also Out on the Tiles, which is pretty dramatically similar to Good Times Bad Times. Weird album all around for the boys. At this point, LZ3 is unsurprisingly at the bottom of the pack, outside of those weird stragglers at the end of their career that I'm simply not overly familiar with, but Zep did their thing well enough that that still nets them a strong ⭐️⭐️⭐️, maybe a 3.5. I'll be giving it another spin to get better acquainted, but it really is set apart from the best of the catalog
Expectation: -> Led Zeppelin is one of those bands that everbody loves but I don't really have an opinion either way. Maybe I form one today. After listening: -> Still mostly ambivalent and don't feel connected. Really liked some moments but most of this was just playing in the background while I did something else. I'm realizing that I never recognize when a Zeppelin song is playing on the radio or streaming. Immigrant Song is a standout on this album. 3.5, this album is technically very very good. The guitar work, whew. Aside from Immigrant Song, I like Friends and Since I've Been Loving You. I appreciate the artistry, but the band and their music don't resonate with me as much as I would like.
