Reviews (page 7 of 7)
Just too ridiculously long. Cut out half the tracks and this would be a halfway decent album
Not for me
started off ok but is very monotone
Quite interesting, but for the most part, doesn't do it for me. Love the cover though. Best track Ole Mullholland.
So I remember seeing this album cover back in the 90’s, and I can tell you that it wasn’t something I was going to search out… Don’t ever recall hearing any of the songs from this album, so it was completely new to me… Was absolutely dreading this exercise based on my scaring from the album cover, and my angst was doubly amplified when I saw the album was over an hour long… Really??? Ugh… Anyway, given how low I set the bar, I was pleasantly surprised that it didn’t suck nearly as much as I thought it would… Still don’t get all of the excitement over “Whatever Happened To Pong?”, but there are several tracks towards the later half of the album that I thought were decent… Perhaps the most interesting vibe that I had while listening, was how several of the songs, sorta sounded like they would have fit right into the “Rocky Horror Picture Show” soundtrack… Not sure why I got that – but that occurred on multiple occasions, so who knows, anybody else get that??? Not sure that any of tracks rose above 4-stars on my 7-star rating system, but the tracks that stood out were – “Freedom Rock” “Fiddle Riddle” “Fazer Eyes” And the best track on the album IMO was “Big Red”… Definitely NOT on the same level of the albums that I have scored a 3 to date, but it’s definitely better than a 1… Nothing better than low expectations…
Not my thing
Not really my thing
Not a fan.
Yeah I can’t pretend to care about this. This brand of nerdy 90s alt rock never did anything for me.
Meh
I reckon if you had caught this album when it was released it could easily be something that fell into regular listening and became on of those albums you remember fondly. But this is the age of Spotfiy. You can access every piece of music Humanity has ever produced. It doesn't stand up to that sort of scrutiny.
Meh
Underrated all around artist
I dunno who this guy is.. he's pretty and the music feels juvenile pop.. I can't say that there's anything about it that grabs me. Bored now. 2 stars.
Okay. One or two catchy songs that jumped out at me. Otherwise just gimme the Pixies.
Too long. Some positive moments. Mostly chaotic. 2 stars.
The guitar work is great but the singing irritated me so much.
Pretty fine. The best parts of this reminded me of early Arctic Monkeys. I probably won’t revisit but not a terrible listen
Not my favorite. Kept thinking that this was used on Veronica Mars at some point because it reminded me of the vibe of the soundtrack to that.
Exposing a blind spot of pre-00s Alt/indie/punk rock that didn't break through to the pop charts. I have never heard of this guy before until looking into him. Made me realize how little i know of the Pixies and similar bands. While i don't know the specific songs, the actual music didn't sound all that foreign or off-putting as it's adjacent to other music that I enjoy (e.g. Nirvana). So with a little more familiarity i bet I'd appreciate it more, but as is it didn't move the needle much.
Rock, Punk, Altern., 1994 -> 2
meh just meh I dont see how this is even on this list and it was really boring I like a few of the songs but it was not a bad time just forgettable and I listen to it twice and nothing stayed with me I do not remember anything
I started and stopped this album many times. Once I finally got to ripping the band aid off, it felt like the album would never end. Most of these songs do not feel written so much as “worked out.” Like Frank Black found a chord progression and then kind of devised lyrics on top of it. Nothing offends my earbuds, per se, but very little actually appealed to me. The album’s saving grace is its production, which makes it pretty listenable. In fact, I liked it best when I stopped listening to the album and just heard it in the background of whatever else I was doing.
Not my thing! 2/5
OK full disclosure, I'm not a Pixies fan, but went into this with an open mind, and thought this was more enjoyable than I expected... and then the reggae song comes in and I am in actual hysterics. Fuck, there are still another ELEVEN songs after this? I curse the CD era
Never heard of Frank Black and it was a toss up between 1 or 2 stars....gave it 2 stars just for the beat in a few songs.
it was hit and miss, but mostly miss.
Somehow Frank Black never got on my radar. I know of The Pixies but haven't heard them. Sounds like standard 90s alt fare with some interesting additions. Not sure if this would have stuck for me in the day. Doesn't do much for me now. And 22 songs?! c'mon already. 2.7
Long. OK. not impressed
Listening to the Pixies without the rest of the band doesn't really make it much fun
Frenetically uninteresting
somewhat listenable
Ugh enough pixies already, 3 albums in 2 weeks.
Mehhhh
Ok. Former lead singer of Pixies!
Jotenkin tää ysärin kyyninen kapinahenki tuntuu nykyään lähinnä lapselliselta. 2/5
No thanks. I really don't like his voice, I don't really like the Pixies anyway, and this doesn't do much to change my mind. It's too long and has far too many songs that are so unremarkable as to immediately be forgotten, and it only gets a 2 instead of a 1 because it's not definitely bad, I just don't want to listen to it.
Like a Pixies record, but without the infectious energy. His voice isn't good enough for this more stripped back style of music and there's nothing that brings it back from that. 2/5.
It was alright
Really? Like is this good enough for the list? Okay... I'll give it a shot. I'm not feeling it. I like some of his music from the Pixies, but this isn't it.
Not for me.
Didn't listen much. Sound too much like just generic uninspired rock
Just noise. Not a fan.
Better than any pixies album tbf
Surely an album with a track called Thalassocracy has to be great, right? You'd be wrong, it's simply *alright*. This album isn't for me, but it's still a clear step down from the Pixies.
2.5
no this is nothing to me and it really just goes on forever huh
Not bad, not amazing
Nothing really stuck out on this one. Really missed the rest of the pixies.
Couldn't care less for this album, but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.
The first 7 songs were nice and the rest was generic alternative noises from the 90s. 7 songs out of 22 is not enough to reach a 3 stars. Not today. Sorry.
2/5. An interesting punk-rock album that doesn't go quite hard but isn't simple either. There are a lot of fun experiments on this one sonically but not sure I'm playing this one multiple times just cause it's hard to follow and stay invested. Like sure, it's weird but that's one of the main things it's got going for it. Not a bad listen but honestly a little too long, a solid 30 minute punk run of the best songs on this would be awesome.
Reasonable, somewhat generic, music.
Ehhh, 2.5/5, not my jam
Stick with the Pixies…
very jam-band... winey... some of it chills out, but... i can't wait for the album to be over.
Fine, boring.
The only good thing about these songs is that they're short.
not for me (2)
Not my style
i really didnt get this. feels like it’s either too weird for me or not weird enough.
Qué hueva.
the opening track starts with a driving and stirring riff but they dont stick with it and go into some crackity jones bullshit instead. the whole record is like this.
8th September 2023 Listened during the day while cleaning the house. Parents with Nick and Ana in the evening. Solid if unforgettable, some songs very Pixies some a bit more left field and heavier. 2.5 if I could.
This album doesn’t really challenge any genre, nor does it stand out from the rest in any meaningful way. But does it need to? I’d argue to be on this list, yeah it does. It’s harmless, and for that reason I’m just kind of bored by it. Sounds like it was a fun time to make. Some lyrics are fun, and Black relievers them in a way that keeps some tracks mildly entertaining, but meh. On to the next.
I’m guessing 1994 was a down year for teenagers.
very poor
This is the first one so far that I had never heard before, was sure I would love and could not wait for it to be over....The album is far to long and the genre blending, vocal and songwriting choices just never landed for me. Sorry Black Francis...
2/5
Look, I have this cd, but hadn’t listened to it for a long time. Black’s solo stuff has never grabbed me like The Pixies did. I played it through once this morning & it was interesting but not thrilling. I mean, I really enjoyed The Breeders’ stuff. Not happening here, though.
I've never been a big fan of Pixies. I will never be a big fan of Frank Black.
I wish I could way I enjoyed this but mostly it made me realize that I'm sick of listening to bands with singers that can't sing (there are SO MANY!!) - or maybe he can but chooses to do so badly? I am not that big on the Pixies in the first place so the frontman's solo project is just one more step removed.
Listened Before? N It was alright I suppose. I feel like a lot of the albums I've been getting recently are very same-y. Lots of uninspired alt-rock from both sides of the pond. I can't wait to get back to some unique stuff. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: Headache
A little long
The album is unmemorable. I don't believe I had ever heard the artist before. The music zeemed inconsistent. It wasn't great and was over an hour long. The songs themselves weren't particularly long but there was a lot of them.
Don't really get it.
Lidt for generisk, intetsigende 90'er rock
Decent rock that just diden't quite grab me
Wasn't quite surewhat I thought. The image didn't match the sound. Not unpleasant but got samey as I listened to more of it. Going to be hard and give 2*
Nah
Mostly garbage music. I found myself yelling "don't you care about notes?" after the first song or two. There were a few reasonable songs after that, I enjoyed "Calistan" and "Headache". These raised it up from one star to two.
Best Song: Speedy Marie. I appreciated the slower, more thoughtful production on this track. The singer has a really nice singing voice when he sings low and slow. Worst Song: Sir Rockaby. Didn't need the lullaby here. Overall: Another one of those alt albums where the artist just throws everything at the wall and hopes something sticks. It feels like they thought if they wrote a song, it needed to be on the album. That kind of desperate energy does little to improve the overall experience, which is 22 songs of just okay.
Quite enjoyable Like a few of the tunes … Anyone else getting a load of 90s american rockpunk?
Kinda generic dad rock that was didn't inspire any real feelings. 2.5
Fine
i have listened to three pixies albums so far; all were okay but didn't stand out that much. i wasn't even aware they were successful enough to have their frontman go solo! and i'm not entirely sure why. this music is fine but doesn't stand out so much and isn't as good as the pixies. the lyrics are unimaginative. it even seems unnecessarily long; it wasn't like frank black had that much to say so i don't know why teenager of the year is over an hour long. for what it's worth, the guitar was quite good here.
While this album was very 90s alternative through and through (something that I usually love), it was kind of boring. I felt like I was hearing a lot of pretty generic alternative sounds, and nothing stood out. This certainly doesn't top, add to, nor enhance the work of the Pixies...which, I guess it doesn't HAVE to, but I just kind of expect something special when a band member goes solo and makes it onto this project. Not bad, but nothing really to talk about.
It's fine I guess but it ain't no Pixies and didn't need a third of the songs
I didn't think much of this really. All over the place and too long. I like the Pixies but this really drove home for me how important Kim Deal's contributions are!
Interminable trash. Had I died yesterday, not having heard this album yet would not have been amongst my regrets. Maybe that's a little harsh. Bad Wicked World and a few other songs are ok. Album sure starts rough though.
Nothing special
First track was unlistenable. It got better but I still didn't like it.
Spotify played The Pixies after this and I didnt give that a 5, Frank, so how do you think this is going to end up?
I like frank blacks voice but I feel like he doesn’t do anything flattering for it
Had never heard of this, didn’t care to hear of it either.
Based on the cover I assumed it would be a comedy album or something so listening to it left me confused. How could this balding middle aged man be teenager of the year. I expected irony. Oh well. Sounded like generic mid 90s rock.
2.5 I have to be honest for an album that I enjoyed so much while listening, I’m surprised it didn’t leave more of a lasting impression. It had a cool sound but nothing remarkable. Plus idk why Frank Black creeps me out. I definitely feel like I need to listen again because I can’t pick out any particular favorites despite enjoying well enough.
2.5 Whatever DID happen to Pong? Pixies are one of my favorite bands, but I haven't listened to much of Frank Black's solo stuff. I thought I was digging this album, but then about halfway through I realized none of the songs had left any lasting impression on me... and when I finished, that was still the case. Like, while I enjoyed the overarching sound, I couldn't pinpoint a single moment in particular that stood out to me. So with that being said, this is probably the coolest unremarkable album I've ever heard, which in turn has made this really hard to assign a rating - I guess we'll go in the middle. Was going to bump up half a star because Frank Black, but took it back because it's a little too long. Would maybe listen again, but would probably opt to listen to a Pixies album instead. Favorite songs: ??? I straight up listened to this album twice and can't think of one individual song to highlight here
Generic alt rock. With his lyrics, he's trying to be as abstract as M. Stipe while being as clever as E. Costello and as cool as T. Waits, and not always hitting the mark. He sounds like the guy from the Pixies trying not to sound like the guy from the Pixies. It's not BAD, it's just not great. There is nothing essential about this LP. Pixies were vastly better. Get Kim Deal back.
Rating: 2.3
not my thing sorry, nto a fan of his voice
Pixies quite ok, but do not really need this one. Not bad, but not spectacular
This album really loses points due to its length. It starts off fairly strong and then sounds a bit directionless and "samey" which was a disappointment. I noticed a few reviewers mentioned that how by the end of the album, no song TRULY stands out... I completely agree! Well, maybe I'd point out Speedy Marie which gave me a surprising Bowie vibe at times, and was a quick breath of fresh air. "Whatever Happened to Pong?" the opening track, sounds very familiar and I really like the subtle rockabilly/surf rock influence, but it's over so quickly. That being said, there are moments that I can enjoy (at times it gets experimental like in Fiddle Riddle, some really good riffs, synths and melodies throughout) but they almost seemed fleeting, like I was grasping at them but they were done before reaching their true potential which made for a frustrating listening experience. I'd say at points I'd consider it a solid 3 or even a 4, but due to lack of highlights and an excess of filler songs I'll ultimately give it a 2.
Je me suis ennuyé
This was bad, not meaning good. A couple of songs towards the end were okay.
Overly long for a bland album. Nothing particularly bad, but nothing that stands out either.
The Pixies sound with some burrs sanded off doesn't do much for me. Teenager is arranged like a pop album, that is to say it arrives all at once but takes an hour to finish. Not bad, but I have no urge to dig back in.
Not as good as The Pixies. There were a couple of good tracks, but not enough to make it great. I kept stopping to listen to other things, to be honest.
Rather disappointing, to be honest
This felt very very long and disjointed. I kept checking to see how much more I had to go before I was done. Not a fan.
not good, not terrible
Was hard to have a decisive reaction to this album. It’s pretty long and the songs while they are all generally alternative it feels they vary throughout how the mesh together. The album felt a bit messy and like a compilation of songs the writer had ready to go. Nothing I would revisit. 4.2/10
generic
C’est ben trop long cet album.
Too long!
Meh not a fan. Lyrics are garbled and hard to comprehend. Not a fan of the sound. One or two songs were decent.
found it whiny and dull - a little light shining through here and there, but got bored listening to most songs
Some interesting stuff going on, even some synths & horns but it was always going to be a let down after the Pixies, more one-dimensional. 22 songs in just over an hour though…
I really like The Pixies, and I actually don't mind the general sound Black is going for here. But goddamn man, over an hour? Any enjoyment I was getting is gone before the halfway mark.
Better than expected. Couple of good songs. 2/5. I look forward to hearing it again.
Bit shouty for me.
While not exactly my thing, I can see the appeal here. Similar to a toned-down Chili's or Sublime.
While a bit bland, I didn't not like this album and almost gave it 3 stars. 90s rock isn't really my genre so I didn't mind the music or find it bad, but the album is unnecessarily long so it dropped down to 2 stars
It reminds me of all the good 90s music without any of the good. If you played this for someone as their first 90s experience they would think all 90s music is bad. It was missing excitement
I found this album to be fine but very forgettable.
I like loud obnoxious 90s rock music, but the level of "sameness" between each song made this one hard to get through.
malukoi do pixies
Eh, 90s alt rock. Goes too long and never really takes off, just meanders around. For over an hour. Also, is that him on the cover? Hideous. 2/5.
this was, y'know, fine. i liked him better as a pixie, but honestly, i didn't even like him that much then either. interesting for its time, in that there wasn't much that sounded like this - but it still, more or less fails to inspire overall
Outo levy.
Missed this one where it was new. Wasn’t really my scene, still mostly isn’t. Some tracks I enjoyed but the more screamy vocals don’t work for me. 2.5
The second solo album from Frank Black after leaving the Pixies was released in 1994 to mixed reviews, but eventually was regarded as his best album since the leave. The 22 alternative rock songs in this album went by quickly while listening to it, without any of them really sticking out to me. The music was great to listen to, but once was enough for me.
Peppy, but not Pixies.
it wasn't that enjoyable. But I like the passion.
Didn’t enjoy that at all.
meh
I will never listen to this again but not terrible just not for me so a 2 Juan Wayne..... "Piano it marks the good pace Ooh yeah, the good pace Don't know if it's right, but I like the bass So turn up the bass"
I'll go 2.5 stars.
Meh
A sprawl of styles but nothing sticks. The more albums we get through the more I want a theme or mood to run through the album and connect the songs together.
A collection of side project songs that done coalesce into a complete album thematically. Some good stuff but won't re-visit.
.
Meh
Long album. Enjoyable, but too long.
Sir Rockaby , Fiddle Riddle were my toe tapping favorites. Many of the others were too much too fast to enjoy. Black’s guitar skills are to be commended and again this was an album where I thought the drummer was phenomenal. I am not an alternative rock fan which is the only reason for a mediocre score. Wouldn’t purchase this for myself.
Raw and true, but not so good
Enjoyable, but nothing stand-out great. I hope there’s some Pixies later in the list. Music is good, but fairly same-same for the whole album
I'll be honest, I skipped some songs. Technically I did start them all though. But it's a lot and whiny so 👎 objectively not bad though.
Ei oikein mun juttu, pikkukivaa rokkia.
Nothing special. Parts of it seems like purposely bad.
Meh...
It's fine. Not to our taste.
absolut null
Alrigth wtf is this bullshit again. One of the worst cover ive ever seen with one of the weirdest name for an album Ive ever read. And ofc its an hour long album. "HeY lOoK aT uS wE mAkE wEiRd MuSiC" This shit sucks. But you just dont get it !!11!111!1 Its not suposed to be good its supposed be fun !!!1!11!1! Yeah im having a ton fun listening to basically a teenage band jam session with the most annoying vocalist known to earth. All the """"""""fun""""""""" wears out prety quickly. The songs starts to sound the same and it gets incressingly more annoying with each passing second. Hitler/5 (ITS ASS)
Borderline Unlistenable.
Now why would you make me listen to a solo album of the one guy in Pixies who kills the vibe of their music for me. The music itself on this album is just nothingburger 90s alt rock, not the worst thing I've heard. But there are way too many songs, the album had no business being over an hour long. For that alone I'm giving it a 1/5 because it pissed me off
Mer Hassan-rock!
I struggled hard to get through this one..
Well, now I know who had all the talent in the Pixies
3/10
I've heard of Frank Black because he was in the Pixies (where he called himself Black Francis) but that's about it. Not familiar with his solo work or anything else. After listening 3 times ... Wow - the first song about Pong is horrible. Not a good start. 2nd song - "Thalassocracy" - just a bad. "Headache" - kinda reminds me of the band World Party (in a good way). Was the title for "Freedom Rock" inspired by the old TV commercial from the 80s for the Freedom Rock compilation album with the 2 stoners? "Hey man, is that Freedom Rock? Well turn it up man!" That commercial is more entertaining than this song. This album is way too long. There are 22 songs and pretty much all of them are just as forgettable as the one before. Only song I ended up "liking" is Headache and being honest it's just an "ok" song - it's not a great song by any stretch. I almost liked "Fiddle Riddle" because the music was different but upon subsequent listens the lyrics just seem stupid to me. I tried to get into this - but could not. Just seemed like a bunch of throwaway songs to me. Just to compare to other stuff around this same time ... Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream from the year before (1993) is light years ahead of this in terms of quality music. Even Cracker - Kerosene Hat (also the year before, 1993) is SO MUCH better than this - it's not even close. Same with what Pearl Jam were doing with Vs and Vitalogy, Green Day - Dookie, Soundgarden - Superunknown. Liked songs on Spotify: 1/22 Rating: 1/5

👎🏻
Who voted for this idiot and his bullshit album? Hoping it’s an April Fools joke.
This sucks serious suckage.
There’s a lot of weird choices all over this album, and not in a good way. TLDNF
1.5?
Te lang, weinig inhoud, zegt me allemaal niet veel.
I feel like it look too long to convey what it wanted, but I did like the first song so 3/10
Starts of really annoying reaching into the second track. The rest is so basic... I don't know why this album is on this list at all.
I HATE this album cover and title and lyrics and tones. Total crap.
Uninteresting and repetitive. This album is like all the worst habits of 90s alternative rock and poprock mashed into one. Some of the lyrics really live up to the title of the album, being just so unbelievably simplistic and stupid. I do think there are some interesting musical bits to the album, but unfortunately they're just wholly overshadowed by the mediocrity that surrounds it.
Dosta lejm. Ne mogu dati više od 1/5, 1/10
absolutely terrible album. i made myself listen to all but the last 2 songs. it definitely should not be on this list. waste of time
Awful. Terrible. Literally the worst thing I've ever had the displeasure to be exposed to. Sounds like a bunch of crap songs Pulp decided were too shit to continue working on. Wish I could give this a zero.
Yeah not my usual style but found some I liked
Extremely hard to get through to the end. Don't understand its presence here. Sorry
Nothing without Pixies
Nah
why is everything going on all at once in every single song
The sound was unmistakable. A subconscious tic. A soft, sharp inhalation followed by a gentle clearing of her throat. This only ever preceded an expression of doubt and fear.
I could not even make it 30 seconds into the first track of this drivel.
Comes across as trying way too hard to be clever, like a college freshman taking his first Comp Lit class. Only works occasionally.
This album is chaotic, and I don’t like it. It was a very long hour.
I had never heard of Frank Black or his album Teenager of the Year before today, and honestly, I could have happily kept it that way. The album is long, meandering, and often dull. There are a couple of moments worth noting—“Freedom Rock” stands out as a genuinely strong track, and “Headache” is well-titled, as that’s exactly what I was left with after sitting through the rest. I can’t quite understand how this record made the list, and it’s not one I’ll be revisiting anytime soon. Favourite track: Freedom Rock Least favourite track: Pretty much the rest of the album Album artwork: A terrible cover that does nothing to improve things.
Frank was rank
This album was clearly named by a paedophile
Different group.
Headache
Sounds like Pixies demos. Indie Meh.
Oh hell no, awful
droning
Couldn't finish the album
i dont like this guy's style of singing at the start it's ok.......... nothing to note would prefer to not to listen to this stuff again is not my cup of tea.........
I can’t stand Frank Black.
Mediocre music with a sub par singer. So glad I had to listen to this before I died👎
Not my jam
Crappy garage band of the year…
god this was a frustrating listen. When I saw the cover I immediately thought I was going to dislike it, but once I saw it was Frank Black of the Pixies fame I thought it might be interesting (though my enjoyment of the pixies is mixed). This album was a mess. Bloated to all hell, with 90% of the songs being entirely uninteresting. I was the 10% that experimented with more loud rock elements was extended. Unfortunately this one doesn't make it to a favorable rating for me. 1.4/5 -> 1/5
Amazed that this got on the list. Couldn't even finish it
Couldn’t make it through the damn thing. Men need therapy if they think this is good.
Just couldn't get through this album. It was too noisy. How is this music?
sucks that this was awful
Frank Black / Pixies are the epitome of suck rock of the early 90s, and I mean that in a yes they are horrible way.
This list ... this 'Must listen to' ... He's pranking us, isn't he.
No a fan. There’s too much pixies content on here!
No. Just. No.
Überbewertet! Schon das Cover sagt mir: Nix! Habs trotzdem probiert.
Iggy Pop made headlines 25 years before with better songs so trying to be his clone is no success plan.
p724. 1994. 1 star. Average vocals, average songs, average playing. And it's a double album. Who decided this was essential listening?

Big chore of an album with nothing coming close to the best Pixies songs. First few tracks are absolute pain and torture and whilst it does become more listenable as it goes on it’s still about 20 tracks too long. 1.99 stars.
I really couldn't get into this. I honestly skipped over almost all of it.
Could not get past the chaos of noise. 1/10.
If I was christened Charles Michael Kittridge Thompson IV I would have felt blessed and the last thing I would have done was change it to Frank Black. But this critter did and that lack of judgement and sensibility is very much reflected in this collection of music. I say music in its loose sense because there is nothing here in this long procession of songs to interest me or offer anything new which is always something I hope for when I am given a previously unknown artist. 1/5 1/9/24
Not for me, thanks.
hard pass
Who is this? I’m gonna struggle to keep going with random nonsense
No
It had potential but kinda made my ears bleed

Good lord it was bad, I had a hard time getting through it
frank black is my opp
Did not like
What do you call this, talk rock? I mean, if you're going to make such a point of not singing melodically, at least have something interesting to say. This dude is fucking gross. This isn't interesting to me at all. It's hard for me to imagine anyone actually getting into this. There's nothing here.
So many really good musicians in the US. I wonder how Mr. Black made it into this List? - 0/5
Wholly and shockingly unremarkable...when not otherwise just terrible. I hated this album then, and I hate it now. Sounds like a talentless kid gifted some recording equipment and a budget. A few non-horrible songs (e.g. "Calistan") don't save the overall boring dogshit. Anything in the Pixies family tree should have suffered the fate of the Fangorn trees at the behest of Saruman. Tear them all down. 2/10 1 star.
I could't get into this at all. I thought the vocals sounded awful and off-key throughout the majority of the album.
This really gave me nothing
I’ve listened to this once before and did not enjoy it. Three songs in and I feel the same way again. The Pixies really just didn’t do anything nearly as interesting after breaking up. At least The Breeders and The Martinis were sort of doing different things than Pixies and were relatively better for it, but Black Francis/Frank Black sort of just seems like he wanted to make poppier Pixies songs here, and I think he at least succeeds at creating a Pixies-esque sound, which is not something that The Breeders or The Martinis seemed like they were really trying to do. However, it’s an unfortunate continuation of the downward trend that started with Bossanova. You’re better off turning this off and listening to Doolittle or Surfer Rosa.
Uhhhh Punk rock zonder energie
Garbage
I don't like the pixies, and it turns out because if this guy!
2/10
Definitely NOT. Salvaged ‘Fiddle Riddle’ from the hot mess of an album but other than that it's a tosser.
Didn't enjoy it, at times it was alright but mostly just mad yelling sounding
Going to need someone to explain to me why this isn't hot garbage, because that's exactly what it feels like to me.
Not my thing
A divisive album with inconsistent song quality and an experimental sound. It may appeal to die-hard fans but falls flat for me
Not my jam...
I understand the Pixies to be quite highly regarded, but this just did not cut it at all for me. It felt extremely bland, and I actually didn't manage to sit through the whole of it. Even though it was just an hour long it felt like I was listening to it the whole morning. Not in a good way.
Headache good. Rest ok.
This was far too long of an album, completely void of any consistency. After halfway through the terrible vocals started getting on my nerves just wanted it to end. "White Noise Maker" yes that's exactly what this album was. Booooring.....
Didn't really enjoy this. Aggressive and boring at the same time. Not to my taste, won't listen again.
Meh. First song didn’t seem to bad but after that I didn’t like it
pas trop écouté
Shit was ass
Yea this album is just annoying (its a pixies related thing after the good years of the pixies is not that surprising)
No
Miksi tääkin on näin pitkä??
Traagista.
Made it through it. I feel like no way this album is on this list if it wasn't for the Pixies pedigree.
Not for me. Enjoy the sound but not the lyrics. Can appreciate how clever they are nonetheless.
Not for me. I didn't see anything special in this.
Terrible
slightly dissonant kinda gritty ramblings. Dragged on and on. This is loading screen music for a C-tier skateboarding game.
Yuck
Didn't enjoy this one. Didn't finish it. 1/5 stars.
Terrible
Too punky…. Nope
What a dreadful noise. If I could give it 0 I would.
I quite like the Pixies. But this is one of the worst things I’ve ever heard. 1/5
Eh
Hey Frank, the 90's called. They want their award back. Apparently you were not a teenager at the time of the award and furthermore, your album isn't even listed under your "Albums" section, instead it is under "compilations". I don't know if that is because it is a collection of your worst songs. I won't ever find out. Frank Black, wearing all white, at least got me to write more than "How bout no" but I can't put any more words towards this.
Hard pass...

aweful
Gosh, two crap albums in a row. Pretty disappointed in this part of the selection algorithm.
