Easy listening but no tracks stand out
If you've heard one song off this album, you've heard them all. The tone is very melancholy, and if you're not in the right mood for it it becomes a chore to listen through. There's nothing terrible going on with the music itself but the songs feel ambient at best.
Pleasant to listen to but I feel like I'd appreciate this more if I was older and liked this sort of pop Also most of the songs are really similar, sorry :(
so boring
Hach, Sinatra. Dieses Organ. Unglaublich.
this was very slow and boring. i normally like some Sinatra but this was not it.
First of all, what a voice! But. While I do like Sinatra (and, in previous incarnations, bought a couple of his albums), I cannot claim the same about this particular album. It simply bores me to the point of not being able to distinguish between the different songs. I think this album is as outdated as the cigarette Sinatra is holding in the cover.
Never really been a fan
I thought I was going to like this, but sadly, I did not. It was too heavy on the vocals and the music felt like more of an after-thought. Too bad.
2.5/5
Has a good vibe, and sticks with it the whole time. First time properly listening to Sinatra. First song is probably my fav.
Boring actually. Every song sounds the same.
Frank's voice was beautiful, but the lyricism and instrumentals were too repetitive for me.
A Sinatra album with a good mix of tempos and valences? Just my thing. A Sinatra album comprising only downtempo crooners and woe-is-me love songs? Boring as hell.
Bit slushy.
My bias towards his voice doesn't blind me from the fact this a bit of a snooze fest.
Really boring
Didn’t mind this but it washed over me somewhat. Feel like I know it, even though I probably have not sat down and played this album as a whole before. Music from another time and place. Probably wouldn’t play again.
I quite enjoyed this in a passive way. I've never really understood Frank and the clamour to eulogise him. I confess to not paying too much attention to this. I was busy with other tasks and had it on in the background. But it was soothing. Wiki said it's a concept album. That completely passed over me.
I was really looking forward to this one. I had heard that it was the "first" concept album, and the concept seemed pretty good and moody. However, it really just drags on. The songs just kinda drag on, and the idea runs thin early into the album. Frank Sinatra has an amazing voice, I can't discredit that, but it's just not that interesting of an album. Highlights: 1, and 2.
This music is all that is everything that is wrong about 'Merica. Smoke filled lounges with stiff drinks, cool men and hot women. Sinatra commanded this scene. These days, he'd have to stand at the bar for an hour thinking about which of the 9 IPAs he wants to order.
This is SOOOOOOOO boring. It's not particularly melodic, there's no energy... everything is sterile, atmospheric, 50's soundtrack music with some dispassionate crooner moaning through an hour of music. It is great as background music if you had a 50's cocktail party planned, but it isn't enjoyable on it's own. A generous 2.
Didn't care for it at all. I think I cannot give it one star because it wasn't ear-clutching terrible....
This album is a snoozer. I’m not a big Sinatra person but these songs all sound really similar to me. Won’t be adding anything to my library.
Just gonna keep it short and simple. Yes Frank Sinatra is a legend in music. Not my thing but can understand why people like him so much. Every song sounds like a Christmas song, just not for me.
not his best
Not for me
Meh
Can't get on board with old blue eyes, definitely a product of its time.
I prefer my Frank with a bit of swing and some brass
Not for me
A darker frank Sinatra album
- Amer - Dijete Talijanskog migranta - NI TRUNKE IRSKE KRVI - Koristi "wee" kao izraz?????????? I think yer a wee bit boring Frankie boy.
Good one. Will relisten, and might put it on in a date night :)
arrangements were tight
No offense to old blue eyes, but I just don't dig this type of music. It's sort of creepy to me, like Charlie Brown Christmas music or something. He's no Sammy Paradise, that's for sure. 2 stars.
2/5 why can't i get frank sinatra as well? :(
Probably would enjoy this album more on a late Friday night. Not my style
Meh
Worth listening to only as an example of unimaginative and over-sentimental crooning.
It was ok
Kinda bland. A good nighttime album though.
Crooning, but no upbeat swing
I respect Frank & all...but there’s just way better albums from this era & genre I’m afraid. The tracks have not aged well and seem so dull now compared to so many other artists you could choose from. It’s a shame...2 Stars!
smooth but belongs to a bygone era
croony, nice if you like that sort of thing, found it boring really
croony, nice if you like that sort of thing, found it boring really
Nothing to this. Sound dated and boring
He's got a nice voice and stuff, but I found this pretty boring.
Nothing better than background music in a restaurant
Bo-ring. I guess Sinatra is a legend and all that, but I'm not a fan...
Chill.
Great at what he does, but only does the one thing on this album.
Not the Sinatra record I’d recommend
Not a Sinatra guy
Not my kind of music. Great for what it is I guess but not for me.
Snooze festival. Gave up by track three
welp Im not an old school guy in the slightest and this doesnt sound like its gonna do it for me. I get Sinatra classic yada yada but the first track is just kinda sleepy and boring to me. I didn't know an album could like make me fidgety? Idk man its just very boring and played out for me. I don't think I can finish this lol. There's just so much more interesting music I'd rather be listening to. I've heard shit like this in movies and TV for years to the point it's just kinda cliche to me.
He has a great voice, duh, but 50s music was super mellow, just a man singing with a orchestra.
i really appreciate sinatra but the album is just not for me
The award for the most obvious thing ever written on here should go to my next sentence. That Frank Sinatra fella has got a great voice. But this is just terrible music. Reminds me of a Tom & Jerry cartoon. Or Christmas. So many songs on here expressing his heart break in a very respectful but repetitive way. Get over it man. Can’t help thinking 2 things: 1) his voice is wasted on such shit music. But that’s not his fault. Great music hadn’t been invented back then! I’d love to hear him sing on a grunge album. 2) I wish some of the gangsta rappers would take a lead from dear old Frankie boy and talk about ladies with the same level of respect. No more bitches and hoes if you wouldn’t mind.
Many things keep me awake in the wee small hours, I hope to goodness this never does. Frank Sinatra possessed a great singing voice, but it is now from an era long past. It is so past its sell by date it is almost unlistenable. I can only think this sort of bygone rubbish will appeal to people who love Micheal Bublé. What a ghastly thought.
Boring
Welp. I knew it was only a matter of time before a Frank Sinatra album popped up, since there are 3 of them on this site. He comes from a much simpler time, like comparing preschool to doctorate level education. He was a vocalist. I enjoyed the background music more than what the vocalist contributed. Every song sounds the same. Boring and tedious. Fingernails on a chalkboard have more going on than this. I got more out of his Wikipedia page than listening to the album. Just ick. Zero stars.
I feel like I should give sinatra a 1 is unfair because he is so musically important but I'm going to because this shit was so boring and repetitive and unoriginal and has aged bad. Also he might have been in the Mafia and he beat and cheated on him wife.
Good, relaxing crooner tunes.
Please go away and do one forever Frank Sinatra. This is the single most boring, self-indulgent, lazy, uncreative, asinine, offensive and bad music I can imagine. I suppose I can at least imagine why all these women he's singing about left him, so that's good. But otherwise, it's just a million songs that last three weeks plodding along at one beat per day and all sounding identical.
He's much better in brash arrogant fly me to the moon mode, this is just like listening to a drunk moan about his ex for an hour. Bland crooning over gentle piano and whiny strings that's not even over the top and schmaltzy enough to be fun. It captures a melancholy mood well, but just ends being a boring downer.
Who was this for? I can’t imagine some sad lonely dude throwing this on the turntable in 1956, sitting down with his cheap scotch and remembering when he was beloved for fighting in WWII, only to spend the next ten years spiraling downward and taking it out on his kids…
Cloying, sentimental drivel.
Awful, it's the same whiny song over and over again. Couldn't stand to finish this.
sleepy and shmaltzy. And surprisingly, frank doesnt have that great a voice. A brutal listen
This dude really is a relic that should be forgotten, complete snore fest fossil, pack it up grandpa
Classic Sinatra: crooning. Not really my thing, reminds me of boredom
Not my type of music
Viel Schmalz
Made it halfway through the album. Where’s it going? They all sound the same, mopey shite. 1*
Ugh, another Sinatra album? "Songs for Swinging Lovers" was my first full-album listening experience to a Sinatra album, and after listening to this, I wished it had stayed that way. 50 minutes of whining is not my cup of tea, even done by with a sweet crooner's voice. Lyrically it's not engaging, and musically, it's all the same. Yeah, I know that people with untrained ears would say the same about metal albums, but hey, who wants to train their ears to this outdated, orchestral, slimy music? 1/5
Producer: bad news, Frank. We forgot to write any songs for the album Frank: no worry I can just croon random sentences. People will buy the album on the strength of my voice alone. Get the band to play whatever, mate. I’ll work it out. Producer: but what about actual tunes? Melodies, verse, chorus, verse etc? Frank: fuck that. I’m Frank Sinatra, I can do what I want.
Frank Sinatra is widely know to have connections to all sorts of unsavory underworld figures and mobsters of the time. After hearing this album and knowing of his success I can only surmise that there were credible threats out there that you had to like him. I cannot see how anyone in their right mind and not under duress would willingly listen to this schmaltz more than once. If there is a hell and I ended up there I am relatively sure this would be the soundtrack.
Blue eyes is back, with the same old dribble
So dull.
Dank piñata.
I had to stop listening because he was ruining some of my favorite jazz standards
Never been a fan of crooners, with their style of Pop Jazz vocals, and could never understand why Frank Sinatra was as popular as he obviously was. This rather boring album doesn't change that.
Boring crooning shite.
1- Stars (1/15)
has a christmassy feel to it. boring songs to be honest, but it was 1955
More interesting to read about then to listen to.
The sparse instrumentation consisting of muted horns, brushed drums and gentle strings frames the warm, weary vocals in late night intimacy fitting the lyrics describing the hearbroken limerent longing. While the described instrumentation and vocals seem sappy, the lyrics show a total lack of understanding the interpersonal dynamics of limerence.
I’ve always found Sinatra a tough listen when it comes to full albums. His style feels dated to me, and since this record was released in 1955, it naturally carries that weight of time. I’m not a fan of the crooner sound, but I gave In the Wee Small Hours a fair try today. Unfortunately, I didn’t enjoy it. The crooner/big band style just isn’t for me, and this particular album lacks the big, dramatic songs Sinatra is most celebrated for. Instead, it’s a collection of slow, melancholy tracks that all blur together, leaving the record feeling long, dull, and heavy in tone. That said, there’s no denying Sinatra’s voice. It’s powerful, commanding, and instantly recognisable—even if the material here didn’t connect with me. Favourite track: None really stood out as something I’d want to revisit. Least favourite track: Nothing was awful, but nothing left a lasting impression either. Album artwork: The iconic cover is great—moody, stylish, and evocative of the album’s tone.
Sinatra is a crooner and I get that this album was a new concept however I found the songs boring. Disappointed!
I usually love Frank Sinatra but this is dated and depressing.Couldn't wait for it to end. .
Essentially the same song over and over, about no longer enjoying the springtime or sunrises, questioning whether life is even worth living after being dumped/friendzoned. Vocally and musically nice, but for 90% of the time he doesn’t leave one octave or topic, so it really dragged on for me. Granted it’s a nice voice, but it was hard to empathize. It sounds harsh, but under the backdrop of a 1950's world and all its injustices, I found it hard to sympathize with all the tiny-violin-playing about an extramarital affair not working out. 1.5/5*
This album should be called Yawnfest of 1955. Boring crooner shit over sappy strings. Hated every second of it. 1001 album worthy: no - 93/171
I hate Frank Sinatra and I hate easy listening crooners. This soul-sapping dirge makes me lose the will to live. It's from a bygone age and I can't for the life of me imagine that anyone would still want to listen to this in the 21st century. Make it stop.
Wake me up when he's finished.
Is this christmas music?
Not for me
Nej. Detta var verkligen inte bra.
Nicht mein Genre! Langweilig!
Not a fan
incredibly dull
As boring as you would expect
Honestly, not my cup of tea. Down tempo and really really slow. Everything sounds like an old Disney soundtrack. It's not sparking anything in my but boredom.
Very boring. 1 or 2 songs like this ok but a whole album… not so. I couldn’t wait for it to be over. A lot of wining about some a loved one.
Dreary rubbish
Scumbag, woman abuser, also boring music
Ugh. Sorry not sorry, but music can hardly be more boring than that. 50 minutes of a guy slowly singing about heartbreak with a boring background music. I could have die without it.
Boring as fuck
No
Too sad for me
first i thought of cozy sunday evenings at home reading. but after two or three songs i couldn't, for the life of me, continue listening to it... aghhhhh
I don't understand how it was possible to make such music that literally sounds like one long. 1/5. I don't see the point in listening to Sinatra if it's not the winter before Christmas. Just whining
Sorry, Frank
A much loved singer. Just from a different time period for me
So far removed from my bag
No..... Just no..... Sinatra comes across in all his music as a desperate, thirsty fuck. Calm the fuck down Frankie, women are allowed to like other men. Why is Sinatra so fucking depressing? And why does all his music sound like Christmas music? Or Disney cartoon music? I am definately not a Sinatra fan. That whole 50's crooner/Broadway age of music that New York seemed to be steeped in just rubs me wrong. I really don't like it at all. Favourite songs: In the Wee Small Hours of the Morning.... I guess Least favourite songs: I Get Along Without You Very Well, I See Your Face Before Me, I'll Be Around, Ill Wind, This Love of Mine.... And others.... Thank Christ that's over..... 1/5
Listen other ?
Very open to a Sinatra album. Please tell me this isn’t it. Boring as hell and no classics
if there are 1001 albums in the world i need to hear before i die there's no way frank sinatra gets 2
Didn't like this at all
Slow, samey
FA CAGARE
I thought I liked Sinatra but this was pretty hard to get through. This album has a lot of songs (spoiler alert: they all sound the same) but thankfully they're all relatively short. This one is too much "dim the lights, pine over lady, sad jilted lover" vibe. His music will always be reserved for Christmas songs for me.
I think I fell asleep during this album...and I was driving. Not into this at all but I find it fun to sing everything I'm doing in Sinatra mode now. Perfect for old, broken hearted ladies.
It's music from another time. There's nothing wrong with that but it's not for me. I'm pretty sure this could have been a shuffle of the same 2 songs over and over and i wouldn't have noticed. I'm sure this captured the audiences 70 years ago, but nowadays a slow set of redundant romance songs is nothing but a time capsule to the past. Meh. I'm much more a fan of his upbeat big band stuff than the sappy love songs. 1.15 stars
Very dull, each song totally indistinguishable from the next
I haven't done any research but from hearing him pout and sulk all over this album because one of his wives had the gall to leave him, I can only draw the conclusion he loved monogamy. Poor Frank
Too old timey
Own a cd copy of this album, but that was a mistake. Superannoying music in every aspect.
Horribly slick, gets on my nerves completely.
Remove ya Frankie!
Incel type weepings to a Tom and Jerry type beat. I understand why it's here, just don't want to pretend it's any good
i dont like old-timey love music or whatever
This is just not my jam.
Two Sinatra albums in a week, how unlucky can you get. This time I lasted three songs
Frank is mij iets te 'glad to be unhappy'.
Etc etc. Goeie genade, wat is dit verschrikkelijk gedateerd. Slaapverwekkend saai
Like being punched in the head with boredom!
Boring AF
Snoozefest. Frank Sinatra obviously has bangers...where are they?? Why have the boffins chosen this dud album? Justify your approach to In The Wee Small Hours.
Boring
Franchement c'était un peu chiant
Usually listen to the new album right after lunch. Not good with this album. About put me to sleep. Thought all the songs ran together. Did not enjoy. No song stood out to me. I'll give it a 1 because the dude does have a great voice. Btw, Luke's mom would love this.
This is the Frank they give us?
Off the top - not a Sinatra fan. Never liked Crooners, never thought Dean Martin was cool. Mood Indigo was a skip, can't do it. As far as essential, I think it's important to listen to bad music in order to appreciate the good. DNF
I like Frank Sinatra. He sings amazing songs. But this album is depressing, boring and I dont find a reason to be included in this list.
This isn't interesting for the same reason Seinfeld isn't funny. To be honest, this album is to music lovers what the Gospels are to atheists: something we've never heard but are already weary of.
Not my thing at all
He has a lovely, distinguishable voice and for me quite nostalgic as I grew up listening to him because he was my parent’s era. However the album just got boring because every song sounded the same so sadly only 1*
not for me, something my Gran would like
boring
not my thing
Not my style
Gezapig.
Every song sounds the same. We get it, a girl broke your heart. Maybe this would be interesting if there were an arc to the album but it's non-stop blubbering. It seems to be an album designed for people who feel bad and want to sulk in that feeling...I don't see how this album can actually be enjoyed as a whole. It's just depressing, repetitive and boring. How much longer is this album and how many more times is he going to use that fluttering bullshit? I have to take a break. What a shit ending to a shit album. How many people killed themselves to this soundtrack? I wish I could give it zero stars
Not my cup of tea
1.5.
nostalgia for no one
Bloody hard going. Not a pleasant listen
Frank doing his thing. Not for me.
hi
