Reviews (page 2 of 13)
A fantastic first album from arguably the most recognizable Southern Rock band out there. This album has a lot of depth, which was unexpected on my end. Moving ballads, hard-rocking epics, and fun bluesy story-heavy songs all have their place on here. Even more impressive is how well it all comes together. Nothing feels out of sorts, and every song is good or *better.* The vocals, keys, guitar, drums, bass, everything is ridiculously well done for these guys who were still quite young at this point. They're certainly not virtuosos, but they're damn good and the fact that they wrote up this music as well obviates why they became popular. Normally I reserve 5 stars for something everyone can enjoy, and I do feel that Southern Rock can be a pit polarizing — if you don't like the iconic sounds that characterize it, you're just not going to enjoy them. But I would wholeheartedly recommend the entirety of this album to anyone curious about the band or genre.
I didn't like Mississipi kid, but the rest are just too good. An insane debut album, gonna go rewatch Dazed and Confused
Such a classic. 10/10

Clásico del rock and roll nene
(Pronounced 'Iks-'Chrēm-'Lē-'Géd)
Their best, never bettered.
Шикарнейший рок-альбом. Не ожидал, что понравится: это настоящий рок, блюз-рок, очень качественно записанный, здорово сведённый. Каждый инструмент приятно слушать. Понятно, откуда ноги растут у RHCP...
Great album. Made country rock what it is today. Free Bird was a great song to slow dance to in High School. The only bad thing about that song is that Jen-nay almost jumped from the hotel room balcony.
50% hits, that's an enviable track record. The weaker spots of the album are pretty weak but the hits are just classic. And what a great band - they all really jammed together.
All the best songs. All of them.
Wow, this album is brilliant and I can’t believe I’ve never listened to it in full before. The blend of rock, blues & country is a masterstroke and the song-writing is interesting & impactful from start to finish - no filler tracks to see here. The musicianship is second to none too, with some of the most iconic guitar work of the 70s. Overall this was super enjoyable and worthy of a 5 star review.
One of the great debut albums ever. Half of it are all time classic songs and the other 4 can still hold their own.
Possibly one of the best country/rock albums, no skips
Screw it. This is getting 5-stars. I’m ignoring the politics. This is the apotheosis of southern rock. Simple Man, Freebird? I’m judging the music here… “play freebird!” Not until I’ve heard the entire album first.
Let go all of your preconceived and mostly all incorrect assumptions about this band, what they represent and how they made music. This album is PURE classic rock - this album might be a near perfect example of the "genre" we call 70's/Classic Rock. If you can't appreciate that because of how you perceive them, i got nothing for ya. From the sweeping ballads, to the southern slide, the blues to the hard solos.
Swore I saw an eagle fly over me in Romsey while listening to this
Liked this one too
I ain't the one - 4 Tuesday's gone - 5 Gimme three steps - 5 Simple man - 5 Things goin' on - 4 Mississippi kid - 3 Poison whiskey - 3 Free bird - 5
I am not going to go on about the politics - it's been talked about enough. This album doesn't scream political to me. I am going to give it the stars for the art, not the artist.
This album has fucking Free Bird on it. Come on, you know it's getting 5 stars. Rest of the album is great, too, but FREE BIRD!!!!
Loved it. It reminded me a bit of early Aerosmith
Not the biggest Skynyrd fan, but can't deny this one. Only question is, why the FUCK isn't the extended version of Freedbird on here?!? 5
I typically scoff at Skynyrd.. but damn. This album has their best work (imo) and despite free bird being a joke at concerts, it still rocks
Great debut, fucking Freebird first time out? Cmon.
Definitely in top 5 greatest southern rock albums no doubt. Big part of childhood and discovering music. These days I do prefer Neil Young.. From 8 tracks 4 are classics and 3 of them are on side A with Free Bird ending the album. However side B has some great super bluesy and dirty deep cuts. Just rated 4.5 on RYM, but not exactly sure if I want to give 5 stars here, but I probably should, morning will be wiser than night, during which I am writing this review, Free Bird is playing now after all cmon
Some albums on this list have one truly great song on them, some have two, a few have three. This album has 4 songs that personally I think should be in the list of top 100 best classic rock songs of all time: "Tuesday's Gone", "Gimme Three Steps", "Simple Man", and "Free Bird", with "Free Bird" probably being a top 10 in the genre. Personally I've gone through this record many times and have always loved it through many different settings and eras in my life. My dad loved them so I listened to them when I was very young, my metal head friends and I loved them in high school, and now as a lot of my tastes have gotten softer a bit I still really love them, and this record in particular. "Simple Man" is a star, and it's one of those corny songs that's actually quite beautiful when you get past the idea that it's a bit dated. "Tuesday's Gone" is also really incredible. The melody plays so nice with the harmony, and the band couldn't be more in sync with eachother. Everything is super tasteful and nothing overshadows anything else. "Gimme Three Steps" is a great rowdy dancing tune, and "Free Bird" is one of the most American songs ever, with what might be the most famous guitar solo ever. Great album. One of the best classic rock albums ever.
Solid southern Rock.
I Ain't The One
This album fuckin slaps. From front to back, it's just so good, no skips. Free bird is simply legendary, some say they're still playing that solo to this day. Also Love the "gimme some baby" call out to a solo in Mississippi Kid, so good. But goddamn it did they have to fly that flag?
Tuesday’s Gone, Simple Man, and Free Bird are among the greatest rock songs ever written. In 2010 I saw “Skynyrd” (only original member guitarist Gary Rossington) at Summerfest with some high school friends. Unfortunately they performed Free Bird in front of a confederate flag and during the drive home my friend had to pee so badly he demanded we pull off the highway and when I told him to hold it he yelled that he would piss down my throat. Great night.
More than a solid debut, an all-time great album, even if some of these have been played a gazillion times. There's a reason for that.
Awesome debut album with some megahits. Ending on the Free Bird solo is class.
Classic album. Not much more today. Amazing mix of blues, bluegrass, rock. Immaculate
I loved this. Obviously know free bird, but this entire album was soulful, warming and fun. Definitely will be back to this
This debut album is the blueprint for Southern rock, a super confident three guitar army attack that's a total masterclass in grit and soul. It's insane that bangers like "Tuesday's Gone", "Simple Man", and "Gimme Three Steps" are all on the same first record. The music's got that killer blend of bluesy riffs, honky tonk piano, and Ronnie Van Zant's awesome, gravelly voice. And of course you got "Free Bird"! It's the highlight. Even if you've heard it a million times or think it's a bit of a joke, it's the perfect closer on this album. That four-minute guitar solo is pure, over-the-top awesome and it totally works, taking you to Southern rock nirvana that sums up the whole era. It's a nine minute masterpiece that's one of the best endings ever, finishing off an album that's still a super energetic cornerstone of American rock.
Top banana
Too many bangers in this album to give it anything less.
Nostalgia playing a heavy hand here, but this is solid throughout
Full Album Thoughts: Album Rating: 6.5 (S) Its crazy that 3 stone cold classics, which feel entirely different in tone, come from this, a debut album. There isn't a stinker song on here. This is a "listen straight through" album with the ultimate album closer. Of course this was going to be an S tier, I'm glad its the first! Track Thoughts "I Ain't the One" A The panning and the reverse and whatever else is being done on the drums in the intro absolutely gets me. I love Van Zant's gravel and howl. This deep bass doubled guitar riff, and overblown electric sound, while still having clean mixing so you can hear everything as its playing? A touch of honkey tonk piano? I live for this. This is the side of country, more bayou then haybale, that I can get down with. "Tuesday's Gone" B I cant say've heard this before? I wasnt really ready for the little organ sting here. We are getting a little too laid back, but the guitar twinkles, and has some blues hits in there... It inching towards Standard Country Song, but I find it endlessly more listenable. I think the vocal delivery has a bit more yowl than howl... I still find that grating. Its also a long song, and while it does develop to be more operatic with the string+piano section in the back half, im not sure THIS song needed the length (I see Free Bird as the closer and eagerly await it). "Gimme Three Steps" S I already liked this song, this was part of regular rotation on my background work mega playlist back in the day. A simple song told simply; comedic and catchy... what more could I ask for? Its got that instantly recognizable hook, a hell of a drive that just bounces along, and who doesn't love liberal use of cowbell? They knew they had gold on their hands, you get the chorus TWICE before its ever sung, just in guitar solo form, so you have two whole verses of build up in the story! Its the perfect GTFO song, it SOUNDS like a hasty retreat! Actually, I want to applaud the story telling even further: You have first verse, which is a recap of the night prior, then the second verse and chorus, which is a real time conversation, and the 3rd verse is THE SPLIT SECOND of the run to the door, as the song goes on time gets more and more compressed, until a whole verse spans just a moment. Its just excellent construction! "Simple Man" A Another classic that has escaped containment. The arpeggiated chords with the bass riff really help drive the song. The organ also lends a sense of the grandiose to the song, like a sermon being delivered. I worry that the lyrics are a bit preachy; I dont necessarily agree that a return to 'the simple things' is necessary, as I prefer to view things as complex and nuanced, with detail beyond what appears on the surface... but a plea to live "Authentically" without ostentatious trappings or delusions of grandeur... that I can get behind. I think I knock points off for being, say it with me, repetitive... the whole album has the "fade out ending" problem though. "Things Goin' On" A+ Yeah this is a finger picking good time. This is just fun for the band to play. Unexpectedly funky. I am not sure if the individual parts layer to make a greater whole, but those individual parts as they come and go just have me bopping in my seat. Did this need to be a 5 minute long jam song? No. Am I glad it is? Very Yes. Wild swing of an opener for a B Side. "Mississippi Kid" B This is very sparse, and very simple. It feels like spruced up generic folk blues song. Which it is. I think it leans to heavily on the highend, and really feels better when they bring the bass in halfway through. We just had a jam song though, idk if we need another. One of these days, this is going to be the Deep Cut to get covered in a Slowed Down Dark Trailer Version for some A24 movie mark my word. Weird ending too with the snare rattle? "Poison Whiskey" A Oh yeah we are back to funky organ hits and bass grove. Was this in a Rockband game? I wanna say maybe Rockband 3? I normally would complain about Country Tropes of the "gonna get me beer" but this is actually about the DANGERS of alcoholism... more in line with the tongue in cheek irish drinking songs of "this shit'll get you in trouble". The problem is I am having too much fun listening to the jazzy guitar and piano solos to care. "Free Bird" S Am I going to complain that this song is too long? You just simply do not get to do a Debut Album with a 9 minute closer. This did not need to be 9 minutes long. In a sane world this gets trimmed down and tightened up. All but the best bits get left on the cutting room floor. Therefor, after you remove everything unnecessary from the song, I think you can conservatively have a 9 minute long song. Free Bird is exactly what it needs to be. I dont even have words to describe the build up and then drop of this song, it is a magic trick to listen to. Its not a complex guitar solo, its THE Guitar Solo it needed to be. THIS is where you get grandiose self indulgent excess and it WORKS. Every rockband ever hopes they can EARN a "Freebird" and here Skynyrd is just doing it right out the gate.
Nice
Unlike meat & potatoes, a mirepoix, or a roux, Lynyrd Skynyrd doesn't exist for the foundation of anything else. If they're plain & simple, basic & a part of our everyday vicissitudes, they're this for themselves & only themselves, i.e., they're the nuts & bolts before they've been attached to a larger frame. It hasn't been seamless for this group to be taken seriously in the U.S. of A north, partly for political reasons, but mostly b/c 'Sweet Home Alabama' is an overplayed anthem that's essentially a parody at this point. But listen to their debut, & their effective combination of The Stones (Exile on Main St.) w/ Creedence will hit you like a delightful ton of bricks. 'Forget your lust for the rich man's gold / All that you need is in your soul.' That's leftist, right?
dammit I wish this album weren't so good
Very strong debut, based on a simple fact that nearly half the songs were pretty big hits.
Perfetto
freeeeeee birdddddd
Good
This is the classic southern rock. Obviously, this LP got a lot radio play on AM and FM stations. "Give Me Three Steps," "Simple Man, " "Tuesday's Gone," and, of course, "Free Bird" still receive a lot of airplay on current Classic Rock stations. I own this LP and it still gets a lot of play!
Genuinely brilliant rock album. Some truly great music here and some proper all time classics. Free Bird was my fav song of the album with Tuesday's Gone and Simple Man being my other highlights of the album. I Ain't The One was my fav first listen
Tops
Clásico del rock.
Entretenido, buen soundtrack para el día a dia
Yeah, would deffo listen again
It’s actually crazy how many classics are on this album and these aren’t just any classics. Some of these (Tuesday’s Gone & Free Bird) are all time rock songs. This is a 5 and it’s pretty clear.
I love Skynyrd, and this album has some of my favorites. Five stars.
Sensational album I’d say they are one of the most influential American rock bands.
Nothing but Cultural icon BANGERS - Freebird!
This is the whitest thing I’ve ever loved.
Just for the freebird guitar solo
MUY ICONICOS
Quintessential southern rock. Banger after Banger. No disrespect to Free Bird, but Gimme Three Steps might have one of my favorite riffs of all time. Easy 5!
Excellent
A few legendary songs that make this an all-timer, but all of the songs in between don't disappoint either. Amazing guitar riffs throughout and smooth rock vocals.
Depois disso, o country-rock nunca mais foi o mesmo. São músicas que se englobam muito bem em ambos os gêneros, tanto pra você ouvir num fim de tarde numa fazenda, quanto num motoclube. Muito bom HIGHLIGHTS: I Aint the One, Tuesdays Gone, Simple Man, Poison Whiksey, FREE BIRD 9/10
Tight, classic and iconic. No notes.
I really like Lynyrd Skynyrd… does that make me a bad person?? Super solid 4.7 Free bird…one of the best.
FREEE BIIIIIIIIIIIRD! And also some other Southern Rock classics.
5 Stars. Close to a perfect album with 4 all time great songs. "Gimmie Three Steps" is listed under the definition of Jam Sandwich. AND they give you "Free Bird," too. Get a grip with giving this less than 5. The review section here, predictably, has a bunch of know nothings spouting nonsense about racism. Classic low levels of human intelligence. Shoot me a message offline. I’ve got a bridge you might be interested in.
If you can listen to freebird and not give this a 5… it says a lot about you
I wish I could give it more stars, one of the best
Full disclosure: Lynyrd Skynyrd can suck my balls. White trash country bumkins that represent most of what I abhor about the South. Also, this is a classic album that brought several influences together to create southern rock. The story goes that the band holed up in a shed in the woods and sweat, drank, and practiced for days. You can hear that work in each song. This is a great album for seven douchbags. Influence 5. hits 5. Quality 5. Intangibles 4. I hate them; the music's pretty great 4.
By now this site gave me the pleasure of listening to excellent debut albums by The Killers and The Doors, but the opening from Lynyrd Skynyrd is something else entirely. The record is steeped in the spirit of the American South, instantly making you want to listen to it while driving a muscle car with a Confederate flag flying out the window. It's hard to pick a single song; every single one is worth its weight in gold. The brisk opening with I Ain't the One, the keyboard solo in Tuesday's Gone, the lyrics in Simple Man... But the epochal Free Bird, with its four-minute guitar solo, is still unrivaled. The band's star would set as quickly as it had risen: four years later, a plane crash would take the lives of frontman Ronnie Van Zant, two other musicians and their manager, and leave the remaining members physically and emotionally scarred. Lynyrd Skynyrd is now the Ship of Theseus; none of the original lineup remains. However, the artists' decision is clear: these great songs must live on.
Hatte eine sehr gute Zeit Simple man, Mississippi kid, free Bird
Honestly loved it.
Very nice. Simple Man and Tuesday's Gone are perfect.

One of my favorite albums ever. The best of what Southern Rock has to offer. It is a shame this is the only Skynyrd album on this journey.
I'm really enjoying the energy so far. You can tell this is blueprint for modern rock today.
Wow. I always liked David Bowie but never actually had a change to listen to it. This album is full of hits, no skipping, great for playing while being at home.
Skynyrd's debut is a quintessential southern rock album (it could be argued as THE southern rock album). The band had been polishing their repertoire for almost a decade before its release, and it shows. It's filled with confident swagger and every song could have been a single.
So many classics on this album, truly one of the better rock albums of all time
Another easy 5... so many songs with deep significance in my life :') Free Bird reminds me my favorite bar, where it was always part of the rotation... and I will never forget those afternoons I spent driving, with the sunset ahead of me, looking at the twilight, signing Tuesday's Gone at the top of my lungs
Arguably overplayed and redneck, one cannot deny the impact, cultural significance and staying power of this album. Though it does not meet my full stars litmus test of being a full on needle drop play through, I give it the benefit of the doubt for the round up. The sheer millions of lighters in the air and random shouts for “FREEBIRD” during many concert encores give it the necessary bump. 4.5/5
If you’re questioning this record, just reference the ridiculous yet hilarious commercial from 1987. “Hey man, is that freedom rock?” “Yeah, man.” Well, turn it up man!” Enough said.
Man, I did not think I’d be handing out a 5 for Skynyrd, but how can you not? SO loaded
This took me down a rabbit hole on Allen Collins. Such a tragic life and sad to think of how much more rock he had. Amazing debut album and I read they were together for 10 years before this came out so they had quite the inventory of songs and polished live performance. Overall this quite great with 4 songs that I can listen to over and over. The riffs and tone on Tuesday, simple man, gimme 3 steps and of course a most epic solo….greatness. 4.5
This album reminds me of your mom cuz it's STACKED. 4.5/5
Album #47: (Pronounced 'Leh-'Nérd 'Skin-'Nérd) - Lynyrd Skynyrd Genre (W): Southern rock, hard rock, blues rock Singles: Gimme Three Steps, Free Bird I have listened to this album once before. Thoughts?: I love the vocals, lyrics and the tight playing of everyone. I love their story of how they were so well-rehearsed and strict that they didn’t allow improvisations, every note was thought up until the last one. I love the dedication of a band like Lynyrd Skynyrd, and it’s a shame they got in the plane crash. Favorite songs: All of it!!
Good
Its lynyrd skynyrd
Not much I can say about Lynyrd Skynyrd that hasn't already been said, but holy smokes, I can't believe this was their debut album. Half of the songs in here are some of their greatest hits. Also, I will never not think about that one scene in Kingsmen when I hear "Free Bird." What a gem of cinematography.
This album raised me
I had no idea that I loved this so much! I've never listened to this album as a whole before even though I've heard most of the songs. It's great songwriting. All of the instrumentation is a great play between the guitars and the keys. The drums and bass are solid. Just some great musicians with awesome synergy making fabulous music. Freebird is so popular that it's almost a joke but I gotta admit that the way they kick it up and rock the fuck out of that song at the end is pretty epic.
It cracks me up that they named their debut the pronunciation of their name. This is such great southern rock, and Freebird made for a fantastic mid-day kitchen dance party. The hits on here are all so good (Simple Man made me weepy, I never listened closely enough to realize the lyrics are the advice his mom gave him). And my favorite 'new to me' song is Things Goin' On. A great protest song and I love the piano in it so much. There's really nothing not to love about this ... they rock it flawlessly from start to finish. Easy 5!
The most iconic southern rock album of all time. Not a single miss. One of the best songs ever made is on here, and I could be talking about 3 or 4 of them.
Never listened to this album before, Lunard Skynard to me is Sweet Home Alabama… which I’ve heard so many times I’d be happy if I never hear it again. But this is phenomenal and I will listen to it many many many more times
So many hits on this one. A great album. 5.0/5.0: Iconic
four iconic songs make up over half of the runtime. the other four songs exist in the shadow of the others but are good in their own right
Love this album. Haven’t listened in a while. Guitar intro on I ain’t the one is so good. The song writing and vocals are so good all the way through. Really cool keys too. Tuesday gone is an all timer. That guitar riff is so good. Super catchy. Awesome piano solo in the middle. Gimme three steps is another banger. Not as much commercial success as some of the others on the album, but just as good/catchy. Love simple man. 0 notes. One of the best songs I will ever listen to. It just hits. You want to sing every word. Things going on isn’t the best on the album but it’s another great song. Incredible piano. Vocals/guitar fire as always. Underrated guitar solo. Mississippi kid is such a good change of pace. All of the same great elements of the rest of the album but slowwwwed down. Love the guitar/bass combo. Harmonica solo🔥🔥. Poison whiskey is forgettable but you need a song like that to lead into free bird. What a way to end an album. This is a perfect song. Every single version you listen to, you never want it to end. Greatest guitar solo of all time. No other notes needed. I love this album. I honestly think it’s one of the best of all time. I could listen to it over and over again, and probably will for the next few weeks. It’s close to perfect, but I know there’s better out there so I can’t give it a 5/5. 4.8 stars.
Classic southern rock
Amazing debut album. I like the 1st song was "I ain't the One," 2nd song "Tuesday's Gone" and 3rd song "Gimme Three Steps" so 1-2-3. Gotta have "Freebird" up there as best ever close out to a debut album... and then just saw "Whipping Post" was also close out for Allman Brothers debut so good company to have! Wish I could have seen them. Generational talents and bangers. Oh... I saw a guy once 15 years ago yell "Play Freebird" ** 5 second pause ** "... by Lynyrd Skynyrd" haha, thanks for the full reference!
The 3 song stretch of Tuesday's Gone, Gimme Three Steps, and Simple Man could've released alone as an EP and it would still be an all time album. Considering that insane stretch starts with the 2nd track on their debut album, I don't know if it's possible to have a better entrance to the scene. I mean, what is there to really say? Half the songs on this album are certified rock classics. And the "lesser" tracks are still awesome with the bluegrass twang of Mississippi Kid or the old timey keys in Things Goin' On. In summary: I will go back to air guitaring Simple Man. 5.
No skips. No notes.
5! Gimme three steps after Tuesday’s gone and ends on free bird? Are you kidding me?
Love it, and especially glad I found gimme three steps
Such a good album. I had to double check I hadn’t accidentally clicked on their greatest hits because every song was good
“Oh, take your time, don’t live too fast Troubles will come and they will pass You’ll find a woman, yeah, and you’ll find love And don’t forget, son, there is someone up above” This is without a doubt the quintessential Country Rock album. The balance between slow ballad and upbeat riffs and solos combined with simple lyrics telling simple stories is perfect. In an era of poppy paint by numbers Country music dominating the genre it is great to revisit Lynyrd Skynyrd. They are so utterly authentic in their roots and blend their white Southern Country sound with elements of the Blues without ever feeling like they are in the mould of the white Blues plagiarists. The ballads on this record are largely my favourites. “Tuesday’s Gone” is an all time classic but “Simple Man” might be Skynyrd’s best song (I know for sure it is my mum’s favourite). Then you have “Free Bird” which is nothing short of iconic. Even today we have reached a point where the pre-solo and solo can be found soundtracking thousands of videos on Instagram and TikTok of people achieving some incredible feat. There is an obvious case to be made that it is the best guitar solo ever recorded and it is the embodiment of the stereotype of the obnoxiously long guitar solo. Skynyrd’s follow up “Second Helping” is also exceptional and contains their biggest radio hit in “Sweet Home Alabama”. However, this debut is another album which I inherited on vinyl from my parents and so it is that bit more special to me and just clinches it.
Free Bird
This album is Southern Rock bedrock. You could walk into any bar with a cover band and play any one of these songs and have the whole bar singing along with you. Distance the art from the people, folks. And stop viewing everything through today's lens. Amazing album, even the weak spots are good. And not written by 15 people, produced by 20. Let's see Beyonce do that. My rating: 5/5
I don’t know any of their stuff other than Sweet Home Alabama and I’m honestly shocked at how good this is. What a great debut. This has clearly been very influential (Chris Robinson wishes he was this good). I’ve been such a dilemma about how to rate this. Must be feeling generous
Kurde kocham ich no co ja mogę
This was absolutely fantastic, some of the best rock I have heard on my generator journey thus far
FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE BIRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRD YEAH! I love Gimmee Three Steps, and Tuesday's Gone as well. 4.5 rounded up, because, yeah, Free Bird! 5.
Wow, I didn't realize how many bangers were on this album. Absolutely killer album with hit after hit.
Epaaaa está buenazo, algunas muy country para mi pero las guitarras y los pianos me gustan
it’s softy music, i like this because it calms down. i think this album will be pleasant to listen to on quiet evenings
I hit play on his album in Spotify without looking at the track list to see what I was in for. Unless I am mistaken, I had never heard I Ain't the One on track 1. Then, it was immediately followed by 3 staples of classic rock radio, all of them huge hits. The next three tracks were also new to me, then the record closes with Free Bird. The four 'filler' songs sounded exactly like Skynyrd, but were also somewhat forgettable. It leaves me struggling to figure out how to rank this record. This is only my 23rd day of this challenge. I've heard a few really good albums, several kind of good albums, and a bunch that were ok at best. But the four songs are all time greats. I'm of the opinion that Free Bird is overrated. But it's still a pretty great song. So is Tuesday's Gone and Simple Man. Gimme Three Steps is a staple of classic rock radio. The strength of these songs alone raises the bar and makes this album an all time great.
🦅 Murica. Fuck yeah.
This is an outstanding debut album that has improved through time. Even though the three guitar army is given great credit, Leon Wilkeson's bass playing is outstanding, better appreciated by me now than when the album was first released.
Hell YEAH BROTHER
Could you imagine you and your buddies producing your first album ever and it’s got Tuesdays gone, Gimmie Three Steps, Simple Man and FREE BIRD.
10 🤠 You cannot listen to this album and not feel like you absolutely go on lift off to the moon for the last four minutes if you say that’s not true you are lying my friend
Listen to this morning. Good album, lots of their hits on it.
Awesome!
10/10 freebird
Classic southern rock, half the songs on the album are staples, and the others are all pretty good, except I didn’t ready care for Mississippi Kid. But the other songs are all great, so I have to give it 5 stars.
5/5 + Free Bird might be one of the greatest closer to an album all time + flawless track list + nice variety of different flavors of rock genres Fav: Free Bird, Simple Man, Poison Whiskey Least Fav: -
4.5
Way better than I remembered.
Free bird alone makes this 5 ⭐️
Excelente, som. Gostoso de ouvir. A minha preferida até o momento do desafio.
Im surprised how much I liked this.
Loved this. High water mark for that 70s production mojo, amazing songs and a super fun enjoyable listen. Can’t believe how good this is for a debut album.
Hard mash on that 5 star button.
Hell yeah, this album rules. Half of this album is high-power and incredibly memorable tracks, and it ends with the absolute barn-burner Free Bird. The music rocks hard, and the group's (arguably) best-known song isn't even on it. Free Bird, Tuesday's Gone, Simple Man, and Gimme Three Steps are great songs that make up for some of the less standout tracks in the middle.
Hell yeah. Now we’re talking! Brought me back to my southern roots as a kid growing up in burgeoning Norcross, GA. Good fuckin times. Enjoyed and appreciated the entire album. Hard to pick a standout song but I’ll go with “Things Goin’ On” - the piano and bass guitar got me good. Makes me feel sorry for anyone who didn’t spend a decent amount of time in the south. Gotta live it to really get it. 01-10-2026
Solid album. Several singles I already knew and the ones I hadn’t heard before, I liked a lot. Really enjoyed this one!
Wow what a classic! I’ve only heard this album once before but this listen definitely cements this as a must listen. This music really has its own style. I can’t believe this is only their first album as it sounds so fully formed. Now I’m very curious to hear where they went afterwards.
Absolute classic with possibly the best song ever written / recorded
Hit-dense banger of an album. Gimme Three Steps and Free Bird on the same album is a guaranteed 5. Simple Man is just cake. The other tracks were also enjoyable - felt like a more pure expression of the band than the pop hits.
so many bangers in one location. I was noticing the bluesy bass lines a lot more on the intentional listen
Oh HELL YES, what a starter! Basically every song on this album is a hit, I completely forgot these were all on the same album. Now, this isn't my favorite Skynyrd album, I think my favorite is probably Street Survivors, but its impossible to argue the strength of this album. This is one of the greatest debut albums of all time.
06/01/2025 Great album. Nothing more needs to be said. Spotify listeners: 16.6 million
What an impressive debut album. This has some of their classics that I already knew and some more songs that I quite enjoyed. No skips. Perfect length for an album.
A classic — can’t go wrong
There's a good reason music from Lynyrd Skynyrd's debut album was featured in many popular movies (i.e. Forrest Gump, Dazed and Confused, etc.): It's down-to-earth lyrics and absolutely impeccable musical talents; notably it's various now-legendary guitarists (i.e. Gary Rossington and Allen Collins); have been iconic for decades, and this album truely speaks for itself. I can only assume many people raised in the South in the past 30 years or so, could rarely imagine a better album to listen to on a countryside road trip. Classic selection and all around great music!
lynyrd skynyrd's debut. after pressing play it's not surprising at all to hear why this album reached the top 30 in the billboard charts for that year. this band is gonna come right to you and tell you all about themselves. i really liked a lot of what i heard. mixture of blues, hard rock... there's even a bit of orchestral stuff sprinkled in as well. it's always cool hearing debut albums where you can already hear a sound that's near-perfectly established. to be fair, from what i hear these guys had been playing well before this album, but even so, if you're looking for some fresh and engaging classic rock music? this album is a great pick.
I had to listen to this album all the way through six times because the abridge nine-minute version of Free Bird is too short for my liking so I immediately go watch the 11-minute version from the Oakland Coliseum in 1977 and then forget to do my review.
Classic. Reminds me of a roadtrip with the windows down.
There, now back to bands I know. I already knew Three Steps, Free bird and Simple man off of this album so I knew I would enjoy at least those, if not for all songs. But, pleasantly surprised at how well rounded out the album is.
I really love this album!!!!
I ALREADY LOVE THIS ALBUM! My fav is Free Bird and Simple Man, such an amazing album.
Has Free Bird. 5/5.
I LOVE LYNRD SKYNRD, no complaints, an amazing album 9.5/10
Free bird is on this 5/5
Rockzin clean demais, papo reto
Gefällt mir richtig gut!
Classic - amazing - Five all day long
Banger after banger, an album so good Free Bird is the last track
I never realized that most of their best were all on their debut album. It's hard not to love Free Bird. Plus, Tuesday's Gone, Gimme Three Steps and Simple Man are great tracks too.
Another masterpiece, simple man, free bird
It’s got it all. Groove, guitars, and guns.
LORD KNOWS I CAN'T CHANGE
It has so much depth
They only play the hits!
10/10
The piano is a nice addition to the rock nusic
Fakk ass
I've already listened to his album (36). One of my favorites. The grooves on this are insane.
classic beginnings
No notes!!
Instantly one of my favorite rock albums of the 70s. I never realized that half of the songs on this album were singles. Great hard, bluesy rock. Great guitar playing. They probably could have cut “Things Goin’ On” - it just doesn’t really stand out amongst the other tracks. But it’s still not bad. This album has enough really strong tracks to warrant a 5.
I don’t often have it on my mental list but this debut (Al Kooper produced!) is really a great album from start to finish.
Wow - wasn't expecting a 5, but this was almost a Greatest Hits level album. Knew almost every song, and the ones that were new were great.
Unreal album. So many fucking unbelievable songs on this, including Free Bird which just never gets old. A stone cold classic. Free Bird: Simple Man
Massive. It’s one of the best debuts. But I still can’t be fucking arsed to have the conversation. There is no greater ender to an album than Free bird. These southern boys loved riffs so much and the world is a better place for it. Best Song: Do I need to even put an answer here????
There’s something about this album that makes me feel wistfully nostalgic for a united version of America that no longer exists or maybe never did. It’s beautiful, culturally distinct, and delightfully earnest. Fantastic.
Just a classic album.
Such a solid album. It’s the vibe of a backyard barbecue on a summer day
This bangs, heard it dozens of times as a kid and I still love it to this day
Skynard and the Allman Brothers best Southern rockers of al time. But this album takes the prize from the opening song to Simple Man and the greatest country concert song of all time-Freebird. I would give this one a 10.
Got that stank on it.
One of the greatest debuts and a southern rock masterpiece. Skynyrd released great albums after this, but they never, in my opinion, reached the heights of this album. Gimme Three Steps, Tuesday's Gone, Simple Man, Free Bird... Yeah, they would've been legends even if they released only this album. 5/5
Music to kiss and/or fuck your sister to. Probably one of the greatest electric guitar focused albums ever made. 10/10
It doesn’t matter how overplayed any number of the songs from this album are, this shit goes so fucking hard. Seriously imagine cleaning up your act after multiple DUI related accidents just to immediately die in a plane crash. Must have been sitting on that piece of shit convair thinking man I should have kept taking Quaaludes.
This would have been really disappointing if the tracks on here that I didn’t know were shit. Thankfully they are decidedly not. Both sides are great, there are no skips. This is incredibly solid meat and potatoes hard rock with three of these songs being legit contenders for the best song to come out of 70s rock. There’s nothing particularly enlightening that I can say about this album that won’t sound wanky. The worst part about this is that I’ll never get to see these guys live. Highlights: Tuesday’s Gone, Simple Man, Free Bird
Amazing debut, 4 all time classic songs out of 8, and the others were solid also!
Easy 5
Freeeeeeee Biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiird! And so many other classics.
Great debut
Top tier southern rock.
Fantastoic
Good
Not your average southern rock. Simple Man, Tuesday's Gone, and of course the deservedly epic Freebird are standout tracks on this album. Southern twang oozes throughout this album but it is somehow not relegated to that genre. This is rock, pure and simple. It's honest, easy, and keeps moving after so many years.
Favorite tracks: Simple Man, I Ain't the One, Free Bird How was this their debut album? This is pretty much the definition of southern rock, and while it's not my favorite style of rock I really enjoyed this album. The composition was also great and kept me interested bouncing from harder rock to ballads, and of course ending on Free Bird (which is about twice as long as it needs to be, but is still a great listen)
Just about as good as it gets. An incredible first half of the album and the legendary Free Bird ends the album. What an amazing debut. RIP Ronnie & crew. 9.75/10 (4.875/5)
It should be no wonder that this band became and has remained as big as they have. I was surprised that songs that I knew so well were actually skynyrd songs, knowing mostly their later work. It was/ is great
Great album
5/5. A southern-rock classic, with so many great songs, including Free Bird, truly the best guitar solo ever, and that's not an exaggeration. Sure, some of the songs are not perfect but the album as a whole holds up even today. Even the lyrics ride that line of older progressive country and current (for the time) rock and roll themes. It's a great listen front to back and also a great road trip album too, no other notes, just jamming to free bird one more time. Best Song: Free Bird, Simple Man, Gimme Three Steps, Things Goin' On
Wonderful wonderful. Always associate with my mum and Free Bird but this is so much more fun and rock than that! Every song great.
One of the best southern rock albums, truly some great hits on this one and mainstreamed the genre. After not liking this band for some time, I came to grow a liking to some of their stuff and southern rock as a whole.
Damn. I didn't expect to give this a 5. Not exactly my taste. But I just can't deny how great it is. I obviously have heard all the hits before. And they're good. Can't deny the talent. And the rest of the songs are great too.
Yup, perfect Southern Rock record. These boys were shreddin'.
DNF'd. 3 tracks in this is not for me. Drunk Bob Dylan head ass
Despite Freebird being a bit of a meme at this point, it still absolutely kicks ass. Simple Man is a bit of a cliche as well but I can get get on board. Tuesday's Gone is in unironically just a great song and sprinkled thought those three rock giants are a handful of other well written and well performed blues inspires, southern rock hits. I almost feel weird about it, Lynyrd Skynyrd have become adopted as a symbol of southern values, many of which is I definitely don't share, but if I try to removed the preconceived notions of what (in the eyes of some) they represent, this is a real solid rock album that absolutely has its time and place and I would love to have as a part of my core collection.
If you don't love this album, I'm sure that we can't be friendly.
Named after a principal, these guys offer up a master class in Southern Rock on their debut. Heavily indebted to the blues but less jammy than the Allman’s, this album serves up a heaping helping of mouth-watering boogie (poison whiskey), savory Mountain/sabbath-ish hard rock (simple kind of man), and knife-sharp dual- guitar soloing (Freebird, anyone?). While the scope of this album shows a plethoric panorama of influences, the tone that drips off every word and note is pronouncedly proprietary.
Absolute bangers!
Heard free bird and simple man. Had no idea the whole record was a banger. What a debut
Yes, I daresay they were a bit redneck and racist but they're all dead and the music is fantastic.
Loved this album - solid rock. Includes classic hits like "Gimme Three Steps," "Simple Man," and the iconic "Free Bird".
Mainstay of southern rock
What a great album. I've never heard the whole thing before now. Definitely worth owning on vinyl.
FREEEEEEEEE BIIIIIIIRRRRRRD
That was really good.
Being Florida born and raised, there is an obligation here to respect my cultural heritage: flip flops, cut-offs, beer in koozies, lawn chairs, mosquitos and Lynyrd Skynyrd. Or in proper Floridian vernacular: I'll tell you what, this album is as good as the day is long.
Damn these guys were good.
Helluva debut album.
First off… it’s Lynyrd Skynyrd… classic. I would have to say the 70’s was a great era for albums that can be listened to front to back. The whole album has an amazing sound. Also has great hits like, “simple man”, and “free bird”.
great album
Excellent. One of my dad’s favourites.
What do I even say? Free Bird absolutely steals the show, however every other song is great in its own right. For the most this, this is everything I want in a rock album. Only thing holding it back is probably just some dull moments. I imagine after 2 or 3 listens, though, that I wouldn't feel that way anymore. This album truly has some amazing hits and some lesser known tracks that still hold together a really good listening experience.
gotta be 5 stars
Excelente!
Tuesday's Gone, Simple Man, and Free Bird all on a debut album? I mean come on!
Ja, een klassieker he. Foute dad-rock, maar dan op de goeie manier. 4.5
Man I didn't realize how much I was missing out on Lynyrd Skynard's music, especially when it comes to their debut album (Pronounced 'Lĕh-'nérd 'Skin-'nérd). I don't mean to be handing out 5 stars like candy but god damn have I just been listening to banger after banger after banger all week long, and Lynyrd Skynyrd's debut happens to be one hell of Rock album. I may not be too familiar with Southern Rock as a whole other than some of Creedence Clearwater's greatest hits, but this album is a huge collection of some of the best songs the genre has to offer. While I do respect Lynyrd Skynyrd for trying to show off a more friendly and "cultured" version of the south, I do not condone or respect any of their usages of confederate flag media as I find their reasoning to be wildly out of touch and downright stupid. With that being said these white boys from down in the boonies sure can make a tune or two. This album is full of that sweet southern charm oozing off of each track with the help of Ronnie Van Zant's powerful vocals and lyrical abilities and some of the best guitar parts the 70s has to offer all in one 43 minute project. We all know this project is a classic and a truly iconic piece of Rock, but man do I wish I realized that sooner. Oh well, now it will go down as one of my all time favorites and for damn good reasons.
Always skipped this band, and mostly thought i only know Alabama, but there are so many songs here i know. And given a deep spin, they bloom. Surely will listen to LS more now
Great album. Classics I didn’t know were Skynard
This Bird You Cannot Change 1001 Albums Generator 103 (08/25/2025) I'm going to be honest. I always mispronounce Lynyrd Skynyrd, even though they literally have an album that instructs the reader how to pronounce it. However you choose to say it, this is a wonderful album. There are four (count 'em FOUR) all time classic songs here, and the other four songs aren't bad either. Tuesday's Gone and Simple Man always get me kind of emotional (me and my mom danced to Simple Man at my wedding), while Gimme Three Steps is the most fun song on the whole thing, and Free Bird is of course an absolute classic of guitarmania. Other than these hits, the opening I Ain't The One is a lot of fun. Things Goin' On is just okay, but it's not bad. The acoustic Mississippi Kid is the only song I didn't really like, and Poison Whiskey almost proggy. Lynyrd Skynyrd's debut is a true titan of classic Southern rock. It's a 4.5/5, rounded UP to a 5/5! Favs: Tuesday's Gone Gimme Three Steps Free Bird Least Fav: Mississippi Kid
Southern Rock! Now we are speaking my language! Don’t think too hard! Close your eyes and enjoy. Just give me three steps… Might not objectively be a five star album, but I’m not sure that I can be objective about this one.
5/5 - Southern Rock in its purest form. - Boisterous and rowdy, fun - At times quiet and reflective - Blues-infused (truly) Good Ol' Boys - Hell of a debut record. Gimme 5 Stars.
A pure classic album, perfect for me!
I never think of this as one of the all time great rock albums but it’s pretty much all killer no filler. Contains three classics and the rest are pretty great too.
Tuesdays Gone, Simple Man, and Free Bird all on 1 album.
Free bird changed the Forza stunts forever
Really good. I did not know they made Simple Man, Tuesdays Gone, and I ain't the one. Great album i thought they were just Freebird
5. Doesn't really feel like a connected theme, more like a best hits album? But it's a great best hits album. Killer rock band
One of the greatest albums all time. No skips
that was amazing!
Free Bird!!!! Seriously awesome. Southern rock at its best. Track list reads like a "best of" album. Awesome guitar tones and playing, riffs galore, plenty of layering, and golden age guitar solos. Driving rock beats. Honkey tonk keys. Southern twinged vocals and lyrics. Get your lighter out and maybe they'll come out for another encore.
Well suck me sideways, that was incredible! Okay, so Sweet Home Alabama drives me nuts and I was ready to hate this album because that was my mental association with the band. I have been missing out! This album just shredded start to finish, will definitely be listening to Skynyrd more often. Turns out Happy Gilmore & Forrest Gump already exposed me to a couple of songs here already but start to finish this was just chef’s kiss 70s rock. 🤌
What can I say, this album blew my mind the first time I heard it back in college. I was going through my uncle’s vinyl’s. He passed from AIDS in the early 90’s, several years before I was born. Listening to his music was a way for me to get closer to him. I have a lot to say about this album—Gimmie Three Steps spoke to me under a queer listening, imaging myself flirting with some guy’s girlfriend. I can see a queer country reworking of that song in modern day and I always love singing along when it comes on. You can’t bring up Lynyrd Skynyrd and not talk about the Confederate flag and feud with Nike Young. I think the Drive-By Truckers did an excellent job examining this in their album Southern Rock Opera, getting to the root of “the southern thing” and how politicians weaponize racist symbols and policies to divide a region where nearly everyone’s neck is under the same boot. The real southern thing is seeding division among the people and breaking class solidarity so that everyone can be exploited—and I think the finger pointing that comes from northerners is just a hammer in that toolbox.
Solid front to back!
Being from Alabama, I obviously know about Lynyrd Skynyrd since one song in particular is definitely past the point of overplayed there. That said, I've never given their discography a shot beyond the hits. They definitely came out with a bang with this album and released some all time hits right from the get-go. Ending your debut album with "Freebird", of all song, is legendary. Throw in "Tuesday's Gone", "Gimme Three Steps", and "Simple Man" and you have a really solid album. This turned out to be an excellent album with some songs that I hadn't heard before and I think including it in this list was a good decision. They basically ARE southern rock.
sumple man free bird Tuesday s gone
A great album consisting of 4 absolutely outstanding songs and 4 other really good songs. You know which category each song goes into.
One of my new favourite albums... I knew it was going to be great as soon as I saw Free Bird on the tracklist. Everything about this is so well put together. The vocals, instruments and lyrics all compliment each other beautifully
Solid album. I like their sound - instrumentals are good and vocal work is fitting. 'Freebird' pushes this heavily into 5 star territory though. All time classic song!
A classic album full of classics
Easy listening. Loved hearing some hits I was familiar with and listening to stuff that was new to me. It got kind of country-ish near the end?
The single most stacked southern rock record. If they never made another record they are still hall of famers.
Pure rock n' roll bliss from a traveling family band.
Literally not a bad song on this entire album. Classics.
Every song is a rocker. Great guitar licks, the piano playing is incredible and the lyrics tell stories
Thanks to classic rock radio there are 4 songs off this album I don't need to hear again. The other 4 tracks are solid and enjoyable blues rock. As solid a debut album as there is.
Southern Rock - All the good stuff…. It has a mix of accessibility and musicality with toe tappers and power ballads all with poignant storytelling. Free Bird has an ethos around it that few can match.
Free Bird hits harder when it's the closer of a pretty solid sonic journey. I never knew how I felt about Lynyrd Skyns but it's offical now... I'm a Skynhead ....umm I mean I like this Skynyrd record. Two thumbs up.
Nice album while working on a Friday afternoon. Bright, warm, fun.
This has to be one of the greatest debut albums of all time. It only has 8 tracks, but half of them are iconic (even though Sweet Home Alabama isn't on this one). The other four are pretty good, too. The albums displays some pretty awesome musicianship, especially noticeable from the guitar parts. It takes until Free Bird for them to completely unleash, but they really lead you along the whole way through the album. Even the quieter tracks showcase some deft playing, and the piano-led Something Going On takes a break to have a different kind of fun. The vocals fit the music incredibly well, and the lyrics are clearly personal even if a bit simple at times. To me, the music also kept interest by dipping into bluesy rock and roll along with the more country southern-rough sound. It also had a good range, going from some pretty fast-paced tracks to slower ballads throughout. The second track of the album, Tuesday's Gone, was a 7+ minute ballad sandwiched between two much more upbeat songs. This variety carried all the way to the end, culminating in the combo of both that is Free Bird. I'm not sure you can get a much better closing track than that. The biggest detractor I can see for this album is the style and iconography that the band embraces. They are southern rock kings, showcasing everything that comes with that. Even though I enjoy the genre for the music, I can see how it would turn plenty of people off from the jump. Along with that, I would say that the music did blend a bit at times given the similarity of style, even with the variety they implemented. As a whole, this is an incredibly consistent-in-quality album that ranges from soft and heartfelt to upbeat and raucous. Even though it's a debut, it plays like a work made by musicians with years of writing and recording experience behind them. Several tracks are still iconic 50+ years later, and probably will still be 50+ years from now. Even the ones I hadn't heard before were good, and worked well with the tracks around them to make a complete album. There really are no bad parts, only parts that aren't as good as the others. And some of those others are top tier. I can conclusively say I found this to be a great album. Overall: 4.6/5
it’s an album with free bird and simple man. of course it gets 5 stars, all the other songs are real solid too
COS IM FREEEEEE BIRDDDDDD
What a debut album! Not only does it have the amazing 1-2-3 punch of Tuesday's Gone, Gimme Three Steps, and Simple Man, it ends with one of the most iconic rock songs of all time, Free Bird. And the rest of the album is in no way bad either. How could this not get 5/5?
"Pronounced" as it was affectionaly known at the time of it's release, gave the world Southern Rock. Southern Rock had been porculating in the Southern US for sometime and hints could be found in band's like The Allman Brothers southern blues rock. That was all under the covers. When Lynyrd Skynryrd's debut dropped, however, Southern Rock was suddently everywhere. The sheer number of Southern Rock classics on this album should alone make it one for the record books. Tuesday's Gone, Gimme Three Steps, Simple Man, and the iconic anthem Free Bird are still classic rock radio staples, more than 50 years after their release. Modern country rock bands, such as the Zac Brown Band still play these songs in concert, typically performing them faithfully with little intrepretation. Skynyrd only produced five albums before half the band died in a plane crash, with Pronounced Lynryd Skynrd, they came out swinging, making the most of their short time on earth.
As a young boy... a song came on the radio... what made it different was it was kind of country, yet ALL ROCK n ROLL... and... it was almost TEN MINUTES LONG!!! and they played the whole thing on the radio.... why... because how can you edit all the great parts in "Free Bird"... which over the decades has become a punch line, and a bit cliche... but, back then... it was magical... the vocals... the guitar ATTACK... solos flying in from everywhere... the piano, bass... and the DRUMS... it was ELABORATE, yet right... not a note of it could nor should be deleted... "Free Bird" was like Faces' "Stay With Me" or The Stones "Satisfaction" in the fact that all red blooded kids would immediately start belting out the chorus... and play air guitar to the solos... or air drums, which was the case a lot of the time lol... when you add a great opening track like "I Ain't The One" and then "Tuesday's Gone"... THEN you do "Gimme Three Steps" and "Simple Man"... wow... "Things Goin' On", "Mississippi Kid", and "Poison Whiskey" are not hits, but solid rock workouts... and country rock virtuosity... and then the record ends with "Free Bird" what more do i have to convey? FIVE Stars, son... it's a whole lotta fun... ya boi d
Very good album - great guitar playing and vocals, and epic tunes without being overly ridiculous. Just a good time. I was close to docking it to 4* because side 2 isn't quite as strong, but closing on Free Bird makes it all fine again. It's simply one of the best rock songs ever, full stop
Was perfect to get this in the summer, because is there any better grill out music in existence? Naturally, Tuesday’s Gone is best suited for playing golf with a hockey stick, and Freebird’s good no matter the season or setting.
4.5. Obviously great.
Not as good as live, but still pretty darn good. Turns out Free Bird is totally awesome. Thanks for suggesting I take another listen, Dad.
Non c'è che dire, gasano un botto. È come il folk dovrebbe essere. Da recuperare, anche in vinile se lo meritano.
Fantastic album! Never listened to it before, but I knew most of the songs. Radio, TV, Movies - this album is full of great songs.
Dude, it's got free bird on it, easy 5/5. Simple man and poison whisky are also timeless. but, for real. It's got free bird on it.
Drove through 3 states listening to freebird.
5 of 8 songs are classic rock staples. Billy Powell is amazing.
This album always hits me with a wave of nostalgia; it just reminds me of my dad. But even trying to hear it with fresh ears, I know I would still be absolutely floored. It's crazy to think this was their first major-label release. A straight-up classic from beginning to end.
Half the songs are classics. Hard to argue with that.
This is classic rock gold, I literally never even thought of this music as remotely racist until I read the top reviews. I have listened to Skynyrd for 20+ years. Are we expected to scrub the south from our history? Pretend it didn't happen? I'm allowed to listen to music that I enjoy. Do I support racism? No. I understand the time this music was made in and I understand wrong and right. Listening to Skynyrd isn't going to make me, or anyone for that matter, join the Proud Boys.
Classic full of classics, nothing else to say
Separating art from artist this album absolutely smacks
Excelente
Straight up classic rock album. No bad songs, no filter. Flows really well start to finish
5 out of 5. no notes.
The entire album is good, but would've given 5 stars just for freebird. Favorite track: freebird other picks: simple man, Tuesday's gone, I ain't the one
The album is pretty dang solid, first half is an absolute masterclass, then fades a little, but not too bad, and hammers it home with the classic free bird. This many mega hits on one album, dang!
Freeeeee Biiiiirrrrrrrddddd 🦅🦅🦅
Perfect
Best Song: Tuesday's Gone If you look at the track list, I think Lynyrd Skynyrd made an entire 50+career off of this album. Oh, Sweet Home Alabama isn't on it. The other four songs I know from them are on this one.
Pleasant surprise to see this one come up. Definitely belongs in everyone’s collection. True clasic.
Intro to classic southern rock from GA/FLA. Simple Man is a true gem.
I'm usually pretty harsh on American dad rock but this album is banger after banger.
Southern rock greatness.
Finally we got Tredegar. Everyone has been right forever, one of the best albums ever. 5/5.
After being burned out on skynyrd from high school days, I totally forgot how fucking awesome this album is. Great shredding, great grooving, legendary songwriting. As much as Free Bird seems like it would be an obvious pick for "most overplayed/overrated song of all time", it most definitely properly rated and played just enough. The songs slaps (and so does most of them on the record). This album is definitely a 5
This thing is loaded and after 10 years of avoiding the skynyrd I’m ready to ease back into it. They are so good at groovin on a blues rock track together. I actually look forward to a guitar solo from these dudes and their keyboardist really holds it together for them. Honestly this record is fantastic 5/5
Fettbra
One of the best classical albums of all time. Easily some of the best songs of all time.
