Classic
The thing that gets me the most with Hendrix is how consistently fantastic every song is. There's nothing that's boring, or unimaginative, or lackluster. Everything on this album is crisp and magical. Excellent psychedelic rock
It's JIMI - I have to laugh - who gives this LESS than a 5 - This should be a 10.
Genius. Several of his greatest songs are on this one.
I can't believe I've never listened to this album in its entirety. I understand why Jimi's considered one of the greatest. The chord progressions, the syncopation, the rhythmic delivery of his lyrics in addition to the lyrical content. The compliments and studio firsts continue. Perhaps subconsciously I knew of this, but Bold As Love being originally sung and written by Hendrix kind of blew my mind.
I really like how laid back it feels while still being relatively experimental. I enjoyed my experience, and everyone featured is just so talented.
life changing
Little Wing If 6 Was 9
Hard to get more influential than this master. Little Wing gets me every time.
I mean it's Hendrix how could it not be five stars. I knew a lot more songs on this album than I realized because I had never listened to it before in its entirety. It was a nice little gem.
Beautiful album, full of classic Hendrix blended with experimental psychedelic blues. One of the greatest albums of all time
Love love love
Smooth and dreamy, this is Hendrix at his best. Little Wing is so sadly short
Well, I liked all of these songs, even (especially?) the weird thing at the beginning. Brilliant songwriter. Good enough to open for the Monkees.
My favorite Hendrix record. Easy 5 stars.
5/5. It's just a fact that the first three Jimi albums are perfect. Although this one may have less hits and be less known in general, it still stands among the other two records, with a lot more psychedelic influence. The guitar playing as always is excellent, and even the song from the other member on vocals is great. Relative to the other two, it is the weakest but relative to albums in general, it's awesome. Best Song: Spanish Castle Magic, Bold As Love, If 6 Was 9, Castle Made Of Sand
Jimi is such an amazing guitar player (not saying anything new there). The bass and drums really drove the sounds too. The use of the right and left speakers for different sounds or moving the same sound back and forth created a unique spatial environment that put you in the room with the band.
He is unreal. Really wish he lived past 27.
The genius began here.
One of my favorites
This album is a great intro to Hendrix. More classic song structures and hints of the genius. Just enough classic songs to make this a 5. So much style and charisma in this project.
Not my favorite Jimi album but still full of great songs. Little Wing is in my top 5 of all time, and the only complaint I have about it is that I wish it was several minutes longer. This album continues the incredible synergy of the trio that make up the band; Mitch Mitchell's drumming in particular is absurdly good on this record. The fact that Noel Redding on bass handles a lot of the actual timekeeping on this record is brilliant. And of course Jimi's playing is it's own whole thing. The album runs through a lot of different tempos while maintaining Jimi's signature style, which one would expect. You could say this whole thing is just another Hendrix album, and it is. All of them are so good that it's a huge compliment. I dunno, there's basically I nothing I dont' like about this album. It's perfect.
Previously rated: Are You Experienced (5/5) Electric Ladyland (4/5) ****************************** Easy 5/5 here. Even filler tracks like She's So Fine go pretty hard. If that intro to Little Miss Lover doesn't pump you up, you are dead inside.
The Jimi Hendrix Experience's second five-star album of 1967 (talk about being on fire!) is a psychedelic masterpiece that should be in the library of anyone who has even a passing interest in having a well-rounded collection that properly represents the music of 20th century. Every bit as good as The Jimi Hendrix Experience's debut album (Are You Experienced?) that was released earlier in 1967. Has anybody ever released two stone cold classics in the same year besides Hendrix? Honest question.
lovelovelovethis album!!! a precursor for so much, and castles made of sand (+crosstown traffic) my fave Hendrix tune(S)
It's easy to dismiss Hendrix as a virtuoso guitarist, but this album proves there's so much more to him; it gets into Jimi's head and he gets into yours via stereoscopic effects and mega riffs. Almost auteur-like in its ability to take the album form and expand it beyond its limits.
Evig klassikar.
I love jimi hendrix
If this album were just 35 minutes of hummy noise and Little Wing, it would still get 5 stars.
I cannot believe this was made in 1967 holy shit. Jimi Hendrix basically invented the 70s.
This was originally my least favourite Hendrix album but after listening again I don’t even know if that’s a thing, they’re all definitely 5’s, every single song on here is just so good, Mitch Mitchell on drums goes insane and obviously the guitar is peak, even songs I didn’t like as much on previous listens like if 6 was 9 I completely changed my perspective on especially as the drumming goes particularly hard on that one. Also, the intro “exp” was a lot funnier than I remembered. Overall, I may as well just give it a 10.
Jimi Hendrix – Axis: Bold As Love (Review) Even in 2025, Axis: Bold As Love holds its weight—an undeniable soundscape that still pushes sonic boundaries. From the jump, the intro sets the tone: psychedelic, raw, and immersive. The second track absolutely hooked me—loved the energy, the layering, the journey it takes you on. “Wait Till Tomorrow” stood out with its storytelling and tight groove—classic Hendrix charisma. “Little Wing” is, as always, one of my favourites. It’s delicate but powerful, a spiritual moment in the album. Jimi paints emotion through every note, and it hits just as deep decades later. “If 6 Was 9”? That’s pure, unfiltered Hendrix. Rebellious, weird, and poetic. A statement track. And “You Got Me Floating” is banging—those upbeat drums and classic blues riffs are electric. The bassline practically forces you to move. Timeless. Hendrix still floats above most.
Is Little Wing really that short?
Erinomainen levy Hendrixiltä. Omaperäinen soundi ja loistavaa soitantaa. Kuin yksi pitkä jammailusessio, soitannassa on vapaa tunnelma. Eikä siltikään ammu yli kuten jotkin jo kuunnellut levyt (MBV), vaan on juuri sopivan kokeileva. Nyt täytyy antaa täydet pisteet.
Yep Doesn’t get much better than this. Awesome guitar work and great songs
This is the hundred fifth album I’m rating. I’ve never listened to a full Jimi Hendrix album before. Adding to my Playlist - Up from the Skies, Spanish Castle Magic, Wait Until Tomorrow, Ain’t No Telling, Little Wing, If Six was Nine, You’ve Got me Floating, Castles Made of Sand, She’s so Fine, One Rainy Wish, Little Miss Lover, and Bold as Love. Not Adding to my Playlist - EXP. All in all I liked 12/13 songs. Jimi is very good.
This isn't Jimi at his most concise, but it is Jimi at his most experimental. All of Axis: Bold As Love is just fun. You can tell they're having a good time, trying out new things, getting properly weird with it. I don't think it's the best Jimi Hendrix album, but that's a very high metric. 9.5/10
Very good never listened to from start to finish before. Really enjoyed this one
Really cool album, not sure much more needs to be said
An easy 5 stars! "Little Wing", "Castles Made of Sand", "Bold as Love", "Spanish Castle Magic"... Not comparable to anything else. Pure genius!
Classics are classics for a reason. This thing rips hard.
perfect
I found myself surprisingly unfamiliar with Jimi's legacy. This disk is brillint rock'n'roll. Hardly has songs on it that did not surprise me with the guitar playing or his vocals. It's both smartly crafted and exceptionally pleasing to the ear. Hands down, a masterpiece album here. Favourite song: Little Wing.
Woohoo!!!
Didn’t get a chance to listen so automatic 5
Favorite album of all time. The reason I have my Hendrix tattoo. A perfect blend of Chas chandlers pop sensibility with some of Jimi’s own songwriting voice coming through. 10/10 - no notes.
Again blown away by how modern and truly unmatched Jimi is, this album is just a joy to listen to. Rating: 4.5
Excellent but short
Good record. Not my jam, but I can appreciate the musicianship.
Jimi was amazing!
Jimi Hendrix was the primary force that made me want to learn how to play guitar.
Favorite jimi songs on this album.
Gold. I had no idea I only listened to a greatest hits. Even had some great songs that I didn't know before!
Amazing album, good extermination and mix of rock, blues, jazz and other influences. Added to the mix.
Just ask the axis...
For my money, the best Jimi Hendrix album. And now my living room looks funny with the Axis poster above my record player along side the Axis vinyl in my "Now playing" holder
Amazing.
So good. Little Wing is one of my favorite songs of all time (even though it's so short). This album is classic Jimi. His drummer is so good.
an album that highlights how absolutely tragic this man's early death was; he's not just a brilliant guitarist but also a brilliant songwriter. Little Wing is one of my favorite songs of all time (first heard the instrumental by Stevie Ray Vaughn); But there's classics abounding on this thing. Even the less famous songs, even the song that Noel Redding leads go down easy because the band is so effortlessly muscular. Again, that we only got three records and he died before fully transitioning into what would come next- the mind boggles at what could have been. If I were to lob one criticism at it- several songs are only 2-3 minutes long, and I really think they could have been doubled in length because Jimi can stretch any tune out and make it even more brilliant.
Sad loss to the world an amazing artist who died to early in life
The guitar work is impressive.
Absolutely iconic, the electric guitar finds a new soul in Hendrix's hands. Catapulting the music industry into the next age. Rock and psych and beauty.
Thanks to today's recommendation, I re-listened to Jimi's entire discography once again. After all, you don't open a good beer just to have a small sip, do you?
I love jimi
To play like that and sing at the same time. Mind blowing. A once in a lifetime talent.
Gosh this dude was a magician with a guitar, and I feel like I finally understand what people mean when they say the music was like colours. The list recently for me has been the gift that keeps on giving. 5/5
favs
love it, classic AF
It was terrific
Holy shitttttt this goes so hard. I know that only 2 albums ago I went on about how much I hate late 60s psychadelic rock, but this one is definitely an exception. To be fair, there are actually a lot of exceptions, many of which are on this list. It's just that they are diluted in so much shit that I almost forget they exist sometimes.
Diverse in excellent music styles!!
One of my all-time favorites, easy 5 stars. There was a considerable period of time when this was my favorite Hendrix album. I wore this thing out from about 1995 through 1998ish. It may just be my computer speakers but the production sounds worse than I remember it being.

Jimi Hendrix probably is the artist who played the biggest part of my musical awakening. I bought this album on discount when I was young and it absolutely changed the way I listen to music. For me, this is easily one of the best experiences.
I can only say that people who "don't get" Jimi Hendrix need their ears syringing.
Favourite Tracks: Little Wing, Spanish Castle Magic Honourable Mentions: Ain't No Telling, Up From The Skies, Bold As Love BANGER AFTER BANGER I'm a huge fan of soulful and groovy rock so this album was right up my alley on first listen. The entire album showcases Jimi's versatility by blending his background in R&B with influences from Jazz, Blues, and Psychedelic Rock. So many classic hip-hop songs have sampled his work, which speaks to how well his sound transcends the rock genre. Specially loved the guitar solo in Spanish Castle Magic :) Gonna go buy the vinyl now
Classic Jimi - "The album displays several musical styles and critics saw it as demonstrating Jimi Hendrix's growth as a songwriter." - Wikipedia
9/10. Jimi Hendrix was a musical master!!! Five stars!!! :)
Axis: Bold as Love is a dazzling, kaleidoscopic journey that proves Jimi Hendrix wasn’t just a guitar god — he was a visionary songwriter and sonic architect. Coming off the raw power of Are You Experienced, this album dives deeper into color, emotion, and imagination, showing Hendrix and the Experience expanding their sound in every direction without losing their edge. “Spanish Castle Magic” kicks the door open with grinding riffs and a psychedelic swagger that grabs you instantly. “If 6 Was 9” is defiant and weird in the best way — Hendrix’s anthem for the outsiders, full of fuzzed-out rebellion and cosmic cool. “Castles Made of Sand” is one of his most poignant, poetic tracks — delicate, tragic, and deeply human, showing his storytelling at its most refined. Then there’s “Bold as Love”, the perfect closer — a swirling, majestic finale that ends the album in a blaze of feedback and feeling. It’s Hendrix painting with sound, turning emotion into melody and distortion. Axis: Bold as Love isn’t just about guitar fireworks — though there are plenty. It’s about mood, texture, and depth. A true masterpiece that proves Hendrix could do everything, and make it all sound effortless. Favorite song: "Castles Made of Sand"
title track absolutely slaps
37/1089 - Suprisingly jazzy! Lots of variation in all the types of songs and the effects were cool.
Amazing. And I don’t normally enjoy bonus material, but learning about the phasing that so impressed Hendrix is fascinating. Great, great album.
Favorite Hendrix album.
Perfect masterclass on face melting guitar licks
Just because you're listening to him doesn't mean you're hearing him - Sidney Deane
Never listened to this before for some reason even though I really like his other two albums. This is just as good as the others, if not better. Bold as Love may now be my favourite Hendrix song. Fav tracks: Bold as Love, If 6 Was 9, Little Wing
Classic. Enough said.
4.5
Always enjoyed Jimi's music, just never felt i loved him the way many people do, but definitely respected him. Can't deny this was a great listen from start to finish though, he was killing it.
Beautiful and innovative songs with so much texture
feel like every song has something else to enjoy and unpack over multiple listens very good
Glad it didn't disappoint. Very solid first Hendrix listen.
Incredible album. Stories with strong summer of love themes. Favorites: - Little Wing - If 6 Was 9 - You Got Me Floatin’ - One Rainy Wish - Bold as Love
This is soooooo good. As far as I'm concerned, the more psychedelic Jimi is, the better! Liked Songs Added: Spanish Castle Music Little Wing Castles Made Of Sand One Rainy Wish Little Miss Lover Bold As Love
One Rainy Wish will forever be in my head. Jimi was good at arranging a song and making it an experience for those who chose to listen. His artistry is just unmatched to me, one of the rare artists I can just throw on at any time while in any mood. Love this album!
BEST SONGS: - Exp - Ain't No Telling - Little Wing - You Got Me Floatin' - Bold as Love
One of the great albums by Jimi Hendrix. Nothing more to say about that.
This album turned my brain inside out when I first heard it as an 8th grader in the late 60s. Some of it sounds a bit dated now - BUT - the entire album gets a boost to the top rating simply based on the fantastic track "Spanish Castle Magic" - it sounded amazing all those years ago and still sounds as fresh and energetic today.
A realização máxima do rock psicodélico
Near when we started this project I listened to a playlist called Electric Ladyland, and thought "wow none of this singing sounds like Hendrix, and the recordings sound very modern". I gave an album of Jimi Hendrix covers 4 stars and thought there were enough interesting & weird songs that I might revisit and call it a 5. That's hilarious. I haven't heard very much of this one before and it was real cool. Album cover is outrageous and cool, like the sort of brag that would look pathetic from anybody not at mythological status. Jimi could have straight up said "I am clearly a deity from outer space", and you'd have to go "well.. he's got a point there."
Anyone who says he’s not the greatest guitarist is either severely over- or under-thinking it.
Anything Hendrix is instant five stars for me. This album also got what might be the prettiest song ever - Little Wing. It's hardly a unique take to say Hendrix was the greatest guitarist ever. For me it's for this unique blend he had - he had a modern and interesting approach to the instrument, really taking its expressive powers forwards, while being extremely rooted in blues traditions. He had unique arrangements, effortless technique, while still creating popular songs that a lot of people could enjoy. He's super influential, but nobody can ever sound quite like him. In a sense, he also shaped the image of the guitar hero, the lead guitar legend as the main instrument in a rock band. By the way, Hendrix was also a tremendous rock-blues singer, full of expression. The band does so many different things, funky songs, psychedelic swing, it’s all extremely original, inventive and fun.
Joni changed the landscape of guitar, but he also wrote some fantastic songs. Every song on here is incredible (with the exception of the trippy first track). It must also be noted that this isn’t just a Jimi Hendrix album, it’s the Jimi Hendrix Experience. Mitch Mitchell and Noel Redding do not get enough credit. I’m especially enamored by Mitchell’s drums. He makes If 6 Was 9 work. Maybe another drummer could have done it, but in my ears he managed to stand out even playing next to the legend that was Hendrix, and that should be noted.
pretty good, I'll have to come back and listen to it again
Ah, my good old friend Mr. Paul Caruso, being spooky and awesome for almost 60 years running. Time was, in the old days, the heads wouldn’t even consider listening to your opinions about music until you had consumed this one thoroughly.
Such an underrated Jimi album. Not much in the way of singles that get airplay on the one for some reason, but that means you can jump in and almost hear it like new if you not familiar with it.
This is good - slightly insane but good.
Jimi.
Although Electric Ladyland might be everyone's go to album from Jimi Hendrix, fairly enough, I think Axis matches and even surpasses some of its strengths. The production is a lot cleaner, which perfectly serves some of the weird psychedelic riffs that Hendrix shows throughout the record. In terms of lyricism and vocals, as shown in songs like the iconic Little Wing or the beautiful Castles made of sand, Hendrix is at it best, and even Noel Redding takes the lead in a fun enough song. Overall a treat for every Hendrix fan and for everyone else for that matter.
Day 16: Axis: Bold as Love - The Jimi Hendrix Experience. The name "The Jimi Hendrix Experience" is not an arrogant label; they were quite the experience. Jimi Hendrix was one of the most influential guitarists of all time. He has inspired many individuals to pick up a guitar, as well as many guitarists to put down their guitars upon realization that they cannot play guitar quite like Jimi Hendrix. The psychedelia in the music is so intense that somebody like me, who has never done actual psychedelics, can still feel the effects of this album. To add onto that, I was playing Minecraft while listening to this album (perhaps I should've put it aside during the listen instead), and it really made the experience much cooler. During Hendrix's brief four-year career, he changed the world of music for the better, and the effects of his impact can still be felt today. The Jimi Hendrix Experience may only have three studio albums, but there is always a lot to discover inside of them. Personal Enjoyment: 5/5. How Much It Belongs Here: 5/5.
The spirit of the psychadelic era. Such a great sound. Hendrix's 'lazy' vocals are as much a part of that sound as his fabulous guitar work.
Boaah, Woa, quieek Es ist einfach bewunderswert, was man aus einer Gitarre alles rausholen kann.
Amazing album. This is the first album I've listened to so far that really feels like an album rather than just 10 or 12 songs. Although I wouldn't say there's a bad track on the album, some songs stood out more than others, like Little Wing, Spanish Castle Magic, and Castles made of sand are really outstanding.
Own
Legendary Jimi Hendrix. Amazing stuff, but not so magical as his (their) debut album
I love this little bit softer Jimi. Thoroughly enjoyable!
I love this album.
Easy 10
4.5/5
I think Hendrix builds on what made his debut great, plus introduces some new ideas. Highlights include "Spanish Castle Magic", "Little Wing", "Bold as Love", "Castles Made of Sand", "One Rainy Wish", "Up From the Skies". The only blight on it is the non-Hendrix sung "She's So Fine". Still 5 Stars though.
Possibly my less favourite of their 3 studio albums but still pretty phenomenal with toppity top tracks such as Spanish Castle Magic, Wait Until Tomorrow, If 6 Was 9, Little Wing and Bold As Love. Tracklist is very snappy, tight-knit and incredibly well sequenced and does stand up as a true classic of the decade. Magnificent blend of blistering metal, soft as silk balladeering and powerhouse psychedelia.
iconic
"Fall mountains—just don't fall on me." A dazzling stance threaded throughout, equal parts tolerant, vigilant, and free.
This is an album that should be listened to. I think a lot of guitar players from the 70's were trying to sound like Hendrix. 5 stars or A-.
December 9, 2024 (but also October 17, I peeked inside the present after getting Electric Ladyland🎁) The first listen was pretty absent-minded, as I knew I'd get a day down the line to focus on this album more. Today, I'm more impressed. Maybe it's bc I have headphones in, so I can better appreciate the wacky shit they were accomplishing with stereo panning and phasing The weird "If 6 Was 9", the poppy "She's So Fine" and "Wait Till Tomorrow", and the beautiful "Little Wing" and "One Rainy Wish" contribute to this rating. Perhaps my favourite Hendrix of the 3, although I certainly didn't feel that way two months ago... HL: "One Rainy Wish", "Little Wing", "Wait Till Tomorrow", "If 6 Was 9", "Castles Made of Sand", "Bold As Love"
a experience.
Little Wing is such a fantastic song, it’s almost a tease running at only 2 and a half minutes long. It got me thinking, this has to be up there as one of the best tracks at under 2 and a half minutes. White Stripes- Fell in Love With a Girl, The Smiths-Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want, Van Halen-Eruption. Anyways, this album is fantastic. The production of this album is excellent. Jimi is obviously magnificent, serving us up fuzzy, hazy riffs throughout. The band tight throughout. Castles Made of Sand is another classic and they finish strong with such a great closer with the title track. Great stuff 5 stars
A classic for a reason, Jimi Hendrix is a national treasure.
i loved this, such technical guitar skills, amazing
Amazing. So fa ahead of its time
I think this album is stunning. As a follow up to Are You Experienced, this album is both more experimental, but features more immediacy in the songwriting. The result is an album that sounds very contemporary and very beautiful.
Is this where we get the phrase, "Freak Flag"?
Fantastic
Axis: Bold as Love is the Jimi Hendrix Experience's second studio album. Their first album made him into an international star, and this follow-up only added to his renown as a brilliant guitar player, singer, and song-writer. Axis ranks highly on many "greatest albums of all time" lists. However, Hendrix's two other studio albums typically rank higher; making this stellar album in some way the weakest of his work - but there's nothing weak about this album. These songs have Hendrix's incredibly expressive guitar, like in "Little Wing" and "If 6 was 9," backed by his soulful, blues inspired rock. Jimi's technical mastery and his raw, open vocals helped shape the sound of psychedelic rock.
There really isn't a bad track on this album, I always wonder what Jimi would have gone on to do if he didn't pass away so young. Such a good record. Stand out tracks: - Spanish castle magic - Wait until tomorrow - Little wing - If 6 was 9 - Castles made of sand -She's so fine - One rainy wish - Bold as love
So good. Somewhere between the hit song / pop of “Are You Experience” and the far-outness of “Electric Ladyland”. I wish I could give it 10 out of 5!
Lovely stuff. Solid 5.
Almost every song is a pleasantly groovy experience. There might not be anything iconic on here, but it's still that amazing Jimi sound. I was put on a great trip that was tragically cut short after 38 minutes.
Super fun listen
Doesn’t make any sense that this came out in 67. Also, 3 5s in a row
Two of my alll time favorites in Little Wing and Bold as Love. Spanish Castle Magic, Castles made of Sand. Easy 5
4.6 2x
Jimi was a unique talent and the studio albums he made are some of the most innovative rock and roll ever devised.
Pistas destacadas (en mi opinión) One Rainy Wish y Bold as Love.
Jimi Hendrix is a legend.
Jimi Hendrix’s music is definitely the complete package. Every element stands strong on its own but also works together perfectly. I love the raw, dirty, and gritty feel that runs through his music. The drumming brings a lot of complexity with its clear jazz influences. The bass stays steadily in motion, holding everything together as Hendrix’s reverb-heavy, fuzzy, feedback-laden guitar tears it up. The blues influences in his riffs really add that extra layer of grit.
The song As Bold as Love is just one of the best.
I mean, It's Hendrix.
Trippy man. This is a great Hendrix album. Thanks for this app! 5/5
I don’t love it/it doesn’t mean as much to me as the debut, but I still absolutely love it. Jimi was the goddamn coolest. 5/5
Is there a better Hendrix album than this? I think not. Even 60 years later, it's just as revelatory as ever and continues to prove that Jimi was not only the best guitarist of his generation, but probably any generation.
Perfect album for a pizza party
Amazing album. Slightly weak opening couple of tracks but it picks up and doesn’t stop from Spanish Castle Magic onwards. 9/10
Awesome
Good songs, great players and not just the guitarist. Try listening to the version that comes with an interview attached - very interesting.
Yeah, this is the good stuff.
I'll never understand how this is universaly ranked ad Jimis 3rd best studio effort out of three. Experience was merely a collection of wannabe singles and hard rockin hits, which we all enjoy. While Ladyland was a tripped out psychedelic blues fest, bloated and meandering at times. Axis is the true masterpiece, front to back, a balanced effort, maximizing Jimis songwriting, riff execution, and a huge psychedelic soundscape.
Good this
One of my favorite album covers of all time. Crazy that this was put out in the same calendar year as Are You Experienced? Exp intro sets the stage for a full-on psychedelic experience. Stereo effects to make your head feel like its spinning and a pitched up interview about aliens. Dumps that energy completely and segues directly into a blues-psych jam in Up From the Skies. A wandering reverberation effect on the guitar keeps the psych theme alive with some dusty drum shuffling. Spanish Castle Magic is an all time Hendrix jam. Propulsive energy with everyone firing on all cylinders. Back to back fire with Little Wing and If 6 Was 9. The latter is in my top 3 Hendrix songs along with Castles Made of Sand.
5 stars baby. Amazing album.
Been awhile since I've listened to this one but it has some of my favorite songs by Hendrix ever. This is probably my favorite album by him and an easy 5.
Probably the pinnacle of studio album psychedelia. A couple of filler tracks, but the highs on this are so high. If you play guitar there's a 95% chance you've spent hours deconstructing and trying to master the stuff he's going here. The gorgeous chord extension playing on Little Wing & castles made of sand which is just probably as good as anyone will ever make a guitar sound, the emotive blues based playing on Axis, the fuzzed out wah rock of Spanish castle magic, the way he combines rhythm and lead playing on wait till tomorrow and so many others, the explosive funk of little miss lover, the panning reverse and swirling effects he plays with, the double-stops all over the place. His voice is great too, tender and warm, open and vulnerable, especially in comparison to the swaggering charisma of his other albums.
"Axis: Bold as Love"is the second album by the Jimi Hendrix Experience. The album was well-received critically with respect to their successfully combining several musical styles and Jimi's growth as a songwriter. It was produced by Chas Chadler who also produced the debut. It did very well commercially hitting #3 in the US and #5 in the UK. The album opens with a weird interview in "EXP" where a woman asks a guy about UFO's. The guy answers with feedback and distortion. We sort get somewhat of an answer in the next song "Up from the Skies." A groovy guitar and jazzy drums. Jimi as the the alien wants to know and learn about earth and its people. The band kicks it in on "Spanish Castle Magic." Guitar riff heavy. A clear bass by Noel Redding and great drumming by Mitch Mitchell. The song was inspired by a dance hall in Des Moines, Washington. The band shows its pop chops in "Wait Until Tomorrow." Slow, soulful guitar. Very catchy song including the backing vocals. Jimi really doesn't want to wait until tomorrow. Jimi and the band make it short and sweet again in the much-covered "Little Wing." A classic guitar intro. A glockenspiel. Soulful, bluesy. A beautiful guitar solo. Jimi said it was the impression of the Monterrey Pop Festival from the point if view of a girl. The band gives us a ballad in "Castles Made of Sand." A tuneful guitar open. A solid rhythm section. The solo includes a backwards-recorded guitar. The dreams you have tend to get destroyed. The album closes with "Bold as Love." Lots of guitar gymnastics going on hear. Arpeggios and phasing. A whirling, soulful guitar solo. Jimi compares the rainbow colors to people, music, nature and probably drugs. The one big take way for me on this album is that Jimi and his band can write and record short, very good pop songs (the band was rushed on the record especially in the mixing and Jimi thought they could have done better). They also successfully combine rock, blues, jazz and pop. The band is tight and Jimi is a force (but you know that). Lots of good to great songs here. A obvious must listen.
This album surpasses, "Are You Experienced". I think every track here is golden. It is one of my favorites and a definite desert island pick.
Jimi Hendrix is easily one of (if not the) greatest and more innovative guitarists of all-time. His ability to put pure emotion and soul into his sound puts him echelons above his peers with the same level of technical skill. This album is wall-to-wall sound with not a note being wasted or overdone.
Jimi was actually good, not Clapton... This album needs no review, if you're into music, you know how influential and how this changed the game. It's amazing what they did with just a 4 track studio...
I haven't really listened to Hendrix much over the years since I listened a lot in college. I'd forgotten the raw feel and the constant flow of unique and inventive sounds coming from his guitar. And the songwriting is great and varied. Most of the songs leave you wanting...more. I mean 2:25 for Little Wing?! Its as if he really didn't understand what he had there. This is a rock classic, a guitar standard. And I can see that guitarists would be mining his sound and ideas for the next 50 years. Timeless. I must go back and listen to the rest of his catalog.
Bold and experimental, with some of his strongest songs.
Gema
this one is real good
who else
What just happened? Jimi just blew through my mind. "Yeah, well, maybe. Maybe it was just a change of climate." Little Wing - I mean, come on. Damn, he was good. Imagine seeing him live ... just wow.
I lied down on the rug and closed my eyes to listen straight through and get the full experience, well as much as I could without the aid of some dodgy substance! What a trip. Back to '67 with Jimi, Noel and Mitch. On the swinging streets of London, in a psychedelic club, to a party, then to the sky, the stars and over a rainbow 🌈 Did guitar, bass, drums and voice ever sound more together and more wonderful?
Classic album I've heard many times over the years. Listened to this twice including in the campground at Mondegreen
The Experience were the perfect trio. Hendrix and Mitchell matched each other for fancyness and Redding kept it simple and anchored it.
5 Stars
Jim Hendrix' best studio album, containing some of his best tracks, e.g. Castles Made of Sand, Little Wing and Bold as Love.
Not a single miss on this album, some of the psychedelic elements werent my favorite but other than that the album was perfect. Songs like little wing are timeless classics for a reason.
Listening to this album was a breeze. No filler tracks except maybe the intro. Imagine having two 5 star albums (So far) by the same person. That's how good Hendrix was. I hope I have a great week. I'll give "Axis: Power of Love" 5 stars.
Opening the album with the talk of aliens, and then delivering that album in 1967 ... it makes you think. Even today it still has elements from coming from a different planet.
Unbelievable! I forgot how much I love Jimmy's voice! Haven't listened to this in forever, brought me back to college days when you were introduced to so much new music.
Of course 5! It would be strange indeed if you joined this 1001 community and didn’t want to hear albums like this (again) (and again). Enjoy!
I know almost every Hendrix song but I’ve never listened to full albums. This is a great album. I know people are over Hendrix, but he really was a master and pushed the limits so we have what we have today.
Album 490 of 1001 Jimi Hendrix - Axis: Bold As Love Rating : 5 / 5 I think I enjoy this one more than 'Are You Experienced'. Awesome all the way through.
He had a much more enjoyable voice than I ever really think about. This had some nice moments vocally that made me realize that fact.
One of those albums that’s literally stunning every time you hear it. The man was a gift from the gods that keeps on giving. Unique for many reasons; among them - the first track is the only dud.
Day203 - this album is full of wonderful songs. wait until tomorrow, little wing, castles made of sand and bold as love are going into my library
im a sucker for a good guitarist and the 60s style drumming
I don't think I've really ever gone out of my way to listen to Jimi. Will now!!
Five songs in my liked list, and I'm fussy. He was simply on a different plane to the rest of music, stolen from life and never ever replaced
Unlike Electric Ladyland and Are You Experienced? I wasn't familiar with this one, and so pleased to know it now. Fantastic stuff.
So damn good, probably my favorite Hendrix album. Spanish Castle Magic, Little Wing, Wait Until Tomorrow, Castles Made of Sand…this thing plays like a greatest hits collection it’s so stacked.
really good
So many hits on here, and even the non hits on this album have grown on me over time. Hendrix is one of my all time favorite guitarists and his lyrics are great too. Little wing is one of my favorite songs.
The opening track is extremely fitting. Jimi was from another planet!
Fantastic album.
Enjoyed every single minute.
Jimi is so Jimi. Primo mix of chill and power. Easy 5. PS! Yikes! I can't imagine having an album cover get shipped without the artist knowing 😅
I find I don't even listen to the vocals. I just want to listen to guitar solos
One of the GOATs
Brains 7 Heart 7 Cock 7
What a phenomenal record. So many great tunes and guitar playing unlike anyone else. Really excited for future listens of this album.
This album has some of Jimi's best songs but it also has some of his most "okay-iest" songs, so I am really debating between a 4 and 5 here. A lot of great solos and bluesy riffs. Bold as Love is a great closer 4.5 (This is probably closer to a 4 but Little Wing and Castles Made of Sand are too good)
Masterpiece 5/5
Just as good as, if not better than their debut.
Top 10. Not a song I don't enjoy, even the Noel Redding one (tho it's on the lower end of the Axis spectrum). You go, Paul Caruso.
A psychedelic journey into Jimi Hendrix's mind, filled with fuzzy guitars, cosmic lyrics, and mind-bending wah-wah. "Little Wing" is a classic, and the whole album hints at the magnificent Electric Ladyland to come.
There is just something about Jimi. His voice deep but perfect dictation and his snooth guitar playong vrry innovative and unique to this day. Experimental yet true to blues. Its just so diferent to all other shit happening at the same time. But what always surprises me is the drummer that dude is sooooo underrated and amazing.
It’s Hendrix! Some of the best poetry and definitely the greatest guitar playing ever.
What's interesting in that sophomore album from The Jimi Hendrix Experience is that its many highlights are slightly less iconic than the ones found in *Are You Experienced* and *Electric Ladyland*. And oddly enough, this is what makes it sound fresh after all these years, because those great tunes can be listened to for what they are, instead of others that you already know by heart through their uses for TV, commercials, videos or film soundtracks. It's easier to put yourself in the shoes of a rock fan in 1967, discovering the album for the first time. Not that this record doesn't have its share of memorable cuts, just like the two others quoted up there. There's the lively "magic" of the titular "Spanish Cstle". There's the delicate glockenspiel-addled ballad "Little Wing", quickly followed by the intricate bluesy lines of "If 6 Was 9". In the vein of "Little Wing" you also have "Castles Made Of Sand" (admittedly in a livelier mode, thnks to its upbet rhythms, impressive chord changes, and its "backwards-recorded" guitar solo) and also "One Rainy Wish", aptly couterbalanced by rockers "You Got Me Floatin'" and "Little Miss Lover". Even a deep cut such as the Noel Redding-led sixties ditty "She's So Fine" sees Jimi adding his trademark set of sparks through one of his hectic solos. And closing the proceedings, you have the catchy and moving track giving part of its name to the album, and building up to one of the most epic solos and psychedelic instrumental climaxes of the rock idiom (whose phasing sound has aged like fine wine, by the way). *Axis: Bold As Love* is often seen as a moodier offerring compared to the other Jimi Hendrix albums, probably because it starts with the low-key "Up From the Skies" (after that weird and tongue-in-cheek "Exp" intro"). It's true that when he croons and goes gentle there, Jimi displayed a subtlety and restraint he is not often associated with. But when this thing rocks, man, it *rocks*. Best of both worlds, even without the truly iconic stuff. Number of albums left to review: 160 Number of albums from the list I find relevant enough to be mandatory listens: 363 (including this one) Albums from the list I *might* include in mine later on: 212 Albums from the list I won't include in mine: 269
Cool
Spanish Magic Castle Little Wing If Six Was Nine Castles Made Of Sand One Rainy Wish Bold As Love
✨🤘🏻✨
Classic!!!
10/10
Love the sound of guitar because I play it and think it’s a beautiful instrument, and he’s a very good guitarist Also liked the other instruments, singing and beat.
One of my favorites. If 6 Were 9, Castles Made of Sand, Bold As Love, Spanish Castle Magic, Little Wing...are you kidding me with this songwriting?!?!? The Experience's second album, but the first where Jimi was given a budget and allowed to play around a little. I think this might have been one of the first "stereo first" rock albums. Beatles and Beach Boys were all mono first and then mixed to stereo later, often by others. Anyway, Jimi finally has the budget where he gets to overdub himself on this record so among other things you don't lose his rhythm guitar when he goes to olay lead guitar, and it sounds amazing. Rewards headphones.
he neva miss 10/10
Fantastique
This is a great album cover.
9 / 10 Un genio, sin más. No es solo un guitarrista, la música suena a algo que podría ser actual, no ha pasado de moda.
There's a reason it's called an experience. This album is a great ride from start to finish.
Another formative one. Wild that Jimi had so much guitar in him, but also a pretty impressive songwriter, composer, studio wizard. Lyrics can tend toward ... i dunno cheesy is not the right word, but whatever it is it is the best sort of that. Guitar and drums (mitch mitchell criminally overlooked drummer) are amazing, and bass keeps up. Hell noel even wrote a song. Amazing song structures - its wild that "innovators" later through today still havent really developed on ideas he was coming up with just messing around. If you have never in your life gotten chills on the solo to axis it is cause you have no soul. Sing on brother, play on drummer
Probably my favorite Hendrix record. I used to have it on vinyl but gave it up. Wait until tomorrow has one of my favorite grooves of any hendrix record. Castles made of sand and if six was nine are so trippy. Spanish castle magic rocks hard. Little Wing and Bold As Love may be his two best songs and they practically bookend the record. There is not bad hendrix records but this feels like the perfect combination of flashy playing, psychedelic tones and great songwriting.
Peppers y Magical Mistery Tour, Forever Changes y Da Capo, The Velvet Underground, Surrealistic Pillow,The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, The Doors, The Who Sell Out, Days of Future Passed, Disraelí Gears, Bee Gees´ First, Younger Than Yesterday, Evolution y Butterfly, I never loved a man the way i love you y Arrives, Something Else, Scott, Bee Gees´ First (en realidad el segundo), Wild Honey o Happy Together...
That was dazzling...
Oh delicious. Sweet Hendrix, sweet, expansive, thoughtful, expressive Jimi Hendrix. And Noel Redding and Mitch Mitchell. Up From The Skies, right off the bat we are doing jazz. Mitch tastefully brushing his kit, a little swing and a whimsical judgement on the future of humanity. Spanish Castle Magic. What a solo. Jimi's phrasing and the ease with which he plays outside while Redding keeps a steady harmonic bed for the solos to go anywhere. The end of the second solo has a little scream from Hendrix first on his guitar and then from his throat, and you know they are one. Wait Until Tomorrow. That clean tone is just pure ASMR, and he doesn't miss a note, everything is so perfectly placed. The groove is so lithe, I can literally hear his right wrist moving.
Just the opening track made me smile. That is humour we have not come to know Hendrix for. It all starts with the blues. But then the trio departs and it quickly gets funky. The drumming gets spicy. The guitar gets fiery. We get to the land of magic. A sense that this music is both from the world (the blues) and truly not from this world. This is the sound of multiple possible worlds captured at once. This is great, living, moving music. And yet. They were still learning to shape their power. Incredible, really.
A perfect album!! All- time great performances !
Very very good
Best so far. Wish I knew about this album 50 years ago
Such a great trio, all at the top of their game, bass guitar and drums, excellent. Jimi is such a genius.
pretty good
Nearly as good as Rory Gallagher Great stuff - pure 5/5 Absolutely love Spanish Castle Magic 😎 and If 6 was 9 😊 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Oh yeah, this is a bonafide classic. Perhaps not to the immediate smash that "Are You Experienced" was, but then you start digging deeper. Tracks like "Spanish Castle Magic", "Little Wing", "If 6 Was 9", the title track, and "Castles Made of Sand" showcase the rich blend of blues and psychedelia Jimi was able to conjure with his band. Granted, the album starts with the weird-ass spoken word intro that is "EXP", but it doesn't take long for Jimi's guitar to kick in and before you know it, you're "Up From the Skies." This album comes with a high recommendation.
Hendrix is god.
This record starts with the illusion that Jimi Hendrix descended down from a UFO, his guitar playing then goes on to transcend you to another world. It's just incredible! Also while we all focus on Jimi's guitar playing, the rhythm section here is immensely good as well. This record was so far ahead of its time, and along with Jimi's other records, it has inspired countless guitar players and songwriters. This is a masterpiece.
I've completed one year of this project and this was a pretty perfect way to cap it off. I know many of the cuts off of it already but have never listened in full. Excited for the next 365! 4.5/5
Wow. I've always loved the music of Jimi Hendrix, but this was an album I'd never listened to before. My mistake, I thought it was as good as anything else he's done. On my 'wants' list now and will be listening to it a lot more.
Yeah yeah, it's great
very cool
Cool Jimi Hendrix album. I listen to it from time to time. I like his first and third album better but this is also a stellar album.
Could be a Greatest Hits album. Favorite moments: Spanish Castle Magic, Castles Made of Sand, intro to Little Wing, outro to Bold as Love.
This is the one that made me realize Lenny Kravitz has been doing a horrible impression of Jimi Hendrix for his entire career. And shame on all of us for not calling him out on his shit. I believe I gave the other two Hendrix albums on the list the 5 ratings they both deserved. This one feels a tiny bit less, but not by much. It's Jimi's Sgt. Pepper, and I can't imagine what 1967 would have been like to play both albums back to back. It would have been mind exploding.
Hell yeah. What can I say? You can't go wrong with some Jimi Hendrix. I honestly don't know whether I liked Electric Ladyland or this one more. I might have to do some relistening, although I'll probably wait after I've also heard Are You Experienced before I do that. This album is just awesome. The sound, as is to be expected, is phenomenal. Jimi's guitar playing was incredibly ahead of its time and holds up very well. The rest of the sound is also amazing. I really like the drumming on songs like Spanish Castle Magic. The singing is good. The writing is solid. There's some loose connected theming here without the album feeling repetitive. This is just an all-time classic from a true legend of music. 5/5.
Listened 3/11/24. A classic. Wonderful sophomore release. I hear something g new every time I listen.
Også et album der var på KÆMPE rotation i min gymnasietid. Yndlings-Hendrix! Little Wing! Up From the Skies! Outro-guitarsoloen på Bold as Love! 🤌🤌🤌
Just happened to have downloaded it when my girlfriend came back into the room on a Saturday morning, I said hey what a crawl back into bed and listen to the Jimi Hendrix experience; so we did and it was good.
Hendrix is amazing
Jimi hendrix 5 reeten
Amazing songs as usual. They all have their own intricacies, but Little Wing, Bold as Love, and Castles Made of Sand stand out for me.
Little Wing is the best song ever written. Would be a 5 even if it didn't have One Rainy Wish, Castles Made of Sand or Bold as Love.
Pretty Standard.
Why would you care about the Beatles when this was happening? Noel Redding song a surprise banger.
How'd he learn to do that?
Guitar!!!
This is a flawless psychedelic blues album that doesn't put a single note wrong. The mastering is fantastic and gives an extra-dimensional quality that you just don't find in the modern day.
One of his best albums, psychy, bluesy, all around fantastic. One of the best albums ever made.
(Listened at work) Psychedelic rock can be hit or miss for me, but god this is a hit for sure. There are a bunch of songs I really liked: Spanish Castle Magic, Ain’t No Telling, If 6 was 9, Little Miss Lover, so I’d say it was a solid 4/5. …but fucking Little Wing. I can’t give this anything but a 5/5 just because of that song.
Dude really was just on another level. The guitar work is obviously incredible but Jimi also sells the vocals so hard.
Castles made of sand is Elton John vibes Mostly psychedelic Beatles vibes All of the music had great guitar instrumentals and great vocals lyrics are fun too Maybe I’ll give it a 5 for being so good 4.5/5
love this album
This is great, slightly more on the chilled/stoned end of the Hendrix oeuvre, but nonetheless awesome.
Near perfect, even the album art is groundbreaking.
4.5 - Absolutely love this and think he's another top guitarist of our generation. Why does little wing fade out? Why????
Enjoyed immensely. Puts me in a mood and pace to finish my tasks
Dynamite. Already have listened to it, and love it.
Absolute class. Truly one of the greats and little wing is one om my favorite songs ever made
5/5
Hendrix is one of the very few artists who should have every solo album he did on such a list. This is probably my favourite of his - little wing alone justifies this inclusion It’s an unfinished song - sketch really - but the rest of the album is just superb. Little wing shows his potential more than the widdly wow wow he is known for. But having said this there’s some brilliant stuff here. And really as life changing as Hendrix was, Mitch Mitchell excels. The bass, at least some of which was played by Noel Redding is more than functional. But the drums - for all the bombast of Moon and the force of nature that is bonham, Mitch is probably the most complementary of the great three. Hendrix isn’t my favourite guitarist though I suppose he’s up there. This album is, as the kids say, a banger.
In 1968 I started Law at Sydney Uni - off-campus at the Law School in Philip St. University wasn’t free but I had a Commonwealth Scholarship, for which I received $10.00 a week living at home allowance. I gave Joyce $6.00 of that for food and board. That’s 4 bucks a week to have fun. An album cost $5.25. I was still taping my music from Thompson Underground, and Jimi was featured a lot. But I’d actually heard the first 2 e.p.’s released in Australia, and been able to tape them. They were loaned to me by a ten pound pom named David Jones. I was trying to crack onto his sister Christine. I ended up liking the brother a lot more. He had great records. Anyway, so I knew most of the first album, “Are You Experienced” (1967) with the classics - Purple Haze, Fire, Foxy Lady, Manic Depression- and I had the single Hey Joe, so I was a bit of a fan. This album was released in January. In July I turned 18. I organised a piss-up on a Saturday afternoon, just with the New Breed - these were the 5 guys I hung out with at school. That was what the cool kids at school called us to take the piss out of us. But the name stuck. We got together at Chester Hill in my family home. I remember it was overcast. We sat around playing records. And I could now legally drink. Bob was the last one to arrive - on a bike, with much longer hair and a present for me under his arm - this record. It’s nothing like the earlier l.p. It’s so varied. I have to say I didn’t know what to expect after playing the first track - EXP - which was very experimental at the time. Lots of feedback and wild guitar. But that runs into Up From The Skies, the first single off the album, which has always been a favourite of mine.( Ellen McIlwaine did a beautiful cover version of it). It is unlike anything on his first album. Beautiful wah-wah on it. It was an album I had to listen to a lot. Preferably loud (Which wasn’t always easy at home). The other highlights for me are If Six Was Nine, which 2 years later was used so well in the film Easy Rider - areal youth anthem and the final track on side one ; Bold As Love - the final track, which to call psychedelic may be true but almost underplays it’s greatness - it has so many moods (Chrissie Hynde nailed it with The Pretenders in the early 90’s); and, above all, the majestic Little Wing, only 2&1/2 minutes long and for me, easily the most beautiful ballad Jimi ever wrote. Two years later, in 1970, Eric Clapton would record it in June for the Derek & The Dominoes album, which would be released in November. Jimi died in London, in between on September 18. He was 27. The New Breed live on and 5 of us still talk regularly.
Peter Prichard, co-owner of Scratches Records, shared his love of Jimi Hendrix with me when I was an impressionable teenager. When I was a penniless student, he let me tape a bunch of his Hendrix LPs, that I listened to obsessively (favourite record of that bunch: Jimi Plays Monterey - especially the way they tear through Killing Floor). And then when I started collecting records in the late 80s, there were lots of relatively inexpensive Hendrix vinyl around, so I bought a ton. All the studio albums and the posthumous collections, and compilations and live albums, and even some of the out-takes and pre-fame recordings on dodgy quasi-legitimate imprints. Loved them and listened to them a lot in my youth. These days, I don't dive quite as deep. I tend to stick to the studio recordings, a compilation of the best posthumous studio tracks, and a select few live records (Monterey, Band of Gypsys). The studio albums (and he only released three during his lifetime) are all special in their own way, especially because we know that they are albums basically as he wanted. Are You Experienced is a blast of raw energy, Electric Ladyland is the polished magnum opus, and Axis: Bold of Love sits somewhere in between. Peter was also a big fan of Axis, which rubbed off on me. The songwriting and playing is a bit more refined than Experienced, but more relaxed and playful than the ambitious perfectionism of Ladyland. Jimi has really found his own voice, but the pressures of fame and success still haven't overwhelmed him. If you look at footage of Jimi in the last year or two of his life, he just looks exhausted. But that weariness hasn't hit him at this stage. Peter had this theory that the master tapes of most of these songs didn't fade out, and there was another minute or two of Jimi stretching out at the end of each song, and one day the tapes might be released. Peter thought they might appear after Chas Chandler died, but to date, nothing on that front. Given that Jimi lost the master tape of side 1 in a cab (followed by frantic re-mixing), maybe the master tapes are also lost. Is this the most under-rated of Jimi's studio albums? Perhaps. It is less pyrotechnic than Experienced and less intricately arranged than Ladyland. But it has Little Wing and Spanish Castle Magic and If 6 Was 9 and the title track, all of which are classic songs. The rest of the record is slighter, but still fun. I've listened to the albums hundreds of times (although not all the way through in a few years). It was a joy to listen to it fresh, and I still hear new things. Five stars.
Jimi Dean Pork Sausage
It’s Jimi Hendrix. ‘Nuff said.
brilliant album from a brilliant mind. the band runs on all cylinders and this one grabs you and doesn’t let go. highlights: “spanish castle magic”, “you’ve got me floating”, “little miss lover”
Listened to this while painting an unventilated closet. Talk about psychedelic. Very groovy.
My favorite Jimi
Like Jimi Hendrix. Legendary status. Enjoyed this 👌
Simply good from start to finish.
probably my least favorite experience album (I don't think that's a hugely controversial opinion) but Jimi's worst is still better than many's best
Jimi Hendrix! 10/10
Blew me away
Really enjoyed this album. Not quite as high profile as Electric Ladyland but the music is just as good and at 40 minutes it's a highly cohesive album.
No one has done it better than Jimi
Doesn’t quite resonate like Are You Experienced, but an exceptional release nonetheless.
It's impossible to overstate the influence of Jimi Hendrix. There isn't much that can be said about him that hasn't been said before. The only unfortunate part is that his bandmates don't get more recognition. Noel Redding and Mitch Mitchell deserve a great deal of credit for their contributions to the sound of the earlier Hendrix albums. Fun Fact: Hendrix was discovered by his soon-to-be Manager, Chas Chandler, at the Greenwich Village nightclub, Cafe Wha? Cafe Wha? was founded and owned at the time by Manny Roth, uncle of Van Halen frontman David Lee Roth.
5 stars for Castles Made of Sand & Little Wing alone.
Appreciated the songs on this album much more listening to the entire thing front to back. Has my favorite jimi hendrix songs on it. 9/10
Sensational. My only criticism is that ‘Litte Wing’ is too short 🤣 That song is crying out for a lovely long dreamy guitar solo outro.
Three words - Jimi. Fuckin. Hendrix.
favourite song: castles made of sand banger!
5 stars before even listening :-) Ok ok, there are some lows, but the highs, Little Wing, Castles Made of Sand, Bold as Love are just fenomenal
I love the guy - even before the first note, I'm pretty certain this will get 5 stars from me! After listening, it sure does! Maybe not his best work, but light years ahead of most other albums by most other people. What a legend!
fantastic album. Jimi Hendrix is a master of creating engaging albums that hit hard and flow so well. Album didn't drag at all and was great song after great song. Truly one of the best albums. Extra points for the best album art ever
While not bolstering as many hits as Electric Ladyland, this album is the most cohesive, well crafted project between the two. Front to back enjoyed this one
You can never go wrong with Jimi Hendrix.
Great revisit. Excellent beginning to end
Muy buen disco de Jimmy Hendrix. Buenos temazos
