For a very influential album it is amazingly shit!

A girl who I had a big crush on gave me a pirated tape of this in 1995. I didn’t know it was pavement but I listed to it a lot. It was a nice blast from the past!

I loved this when I was 15, now I’m sadly, significantly older than 15 I can see it’s a bit repetitive. On a rope is great everything else is ok

Another curiosity. How does this warrant inclusion? It isn’t original, compelling or even competent

Grindcore is not everyone’s cup of tea but I have friends in grindcore bands so I have heard a lot. It’s not my favourite but sometimes it scratches a particular musical itch

This is the 2nd divine comedy album that has come up and it’s worse than the other one. No idea why this is in the list!

Moments of absolute brilliance with some mediocre sections. Pretty much sums up most of Yes’ output

Just uninteresting

I have a lot of Welsh friends who love this. I just find it amateurish and tedious

I loved this when I was 15, now I’m sadly, significantly older than 15 I can see it’s a bit repetitive. On a rope is great everything else is ok

It’s too long as a result the pacing isn’t great but it has high highs

I like her voice the songs are generally pretty good but nothing ascends to greatness.

Bjork was always different and while I appreciate a non standard album this just didn’t work for me. I’m glad there are artists doing this kind of weird shit though!!!

Boring

Kept waiting for it to get interesting, it never did

The 2nd Tim Buckley album this month and it is as tedious as the other

Music was fantastic and a live album showcases the peak talents of everyone but the emcee yapping and length bring it down to 4 stars

I had never heard of this! Weird and cool and definitely doing their own thing

I reflexively dislike country music but I gave this a fair chance and it was shit

I do not like U2, I always found them pretentious but not in a good way. But this is very good

I was born in Manchester and spent most of my early life away from the city so I’m biased in my judgement of a lot of Manchester bands from this era. Saying that, I always loved the happy Mondays and they always felt like the best of the Manchester bands of the time

Sad goths actually make some pretty good tunes

It was ok, nice to have some non western music. Shame he is a piece of shit though. Trying to separate the art from the artist isn’t always wasy

This is the second Stephen stills album in a row for me. I really hope there are no more. This was duller than the other one

Sad Lou reed is sad

Great beats great lyrics which could also be from 2025 not 1991

Buffalo stance is great everything else sounds like pure distillation of 1989 music

This could have been a great 45min album but it felt watered down by the length

I had it on in the background and forgot it as soon as I heard it

Great guitar and bass tone and really well produced but, just didn’t grab me

I really didn’t enjoy the previous Tom waits album that was generated so I went into this with some trepidation but I mostly enjoyed this

I was once sat in the pub with my friends and we were talking about our “type” in women. I stated I didn’t really have a type but then all of my friends pointed out that my last 3 girlfriends all looked exactly like Sheryl Crow! Anyway, music is ok her voice is great but overall a bit bland

Buzzcocks were the joyful in their punk and were probably the most fun of the big punk names

I started with low expectations and was rewarded with a mediocre attempt at southern rock. It has no right being 90mins

She has a good voice but this is a bloated mess.

I listened to this under blue skies and sunshine which is not at all the right type of weather for this.

I don’t get Lou reed, sure the album has some charm but that is all Bowies production, clearly I’m missing something

Bowie being Bowie, not his best but that is a very high bar

I was very skeptical at the time when the drummer from nirvana was releasing an album. But I loved its rawness and sound and I was at Reading festival to see them in one of their first gigs. Colour and the shape is the best album foos made but, to me, this is second

One good song does not make an essential album. I remember all the hype at the time of release and 20 something years later I still don’t get it

I like a few slipknot songs but I had never heard this album. It was too long poorly produced and mixed. If I was an angry 14 year old I would probably like it a lot more. It had great potential but didn’t climb above mediocre

I generally don’t like live albums but this is great

The year this was released was the year I moved away from England moving overseas. This has a deep nostalgia to me and I’m a big fan of PJ Harvey

If I had heard this independently from this list I would have thought it was a group of semi talented teenagers who just need a little guidance. But to find out this was their 4th album and on this list is shocking.

I’m not generally a hip hop fan and I was aware this is highly regarded but I had never listened to it before. It grabbed me quickly and wouldn’t let go go

Freedom 90 is by far the best track everything else is meh

Charismatic funky rap is my favourite type of hip hop

Noisy but musical, sludgy but coherent. I love this album

Likely is a complete masterpiece in a club full of people but sounded a bit meh when I was driving my car

everything you want in a hardcore punk album. Fast, aggressive, and doesn't overstay its welcome

Smooth easy listening and generally good songs

Muse has always been a weird band for me. I enjoyed their more rock focused earlier stuff when they were clearly still trying to find their feet. But this album forward felt too polished, shiny and soulless

It’s nice, not great not terrible, easy to listen to

I dismissed Duran Duran because my sister loved them and I was a punk/metal kid. But this is fantastic, the bass work on this is phenomenal. Clearly the music snob child I used to be was an idiot

Started to get bored pretty quickly

Post punk classic, I had this on a multiple copied cassette tape so not the best sound quality but it still grabbed me

I was being bouncing between this is great and this is weird I think I settled on “at least it’s interesting”

No stand outs

I generally like noise rock if it is energetic and coherent. This has moments where it is just plain fun and others where I’m not sure what they were thinking. I’ll likely listen again to this as I feel it needs more than one go through

I remember when this was released and nothing sounded like it. It spawned a lot of imitators and it hasn’t aged well

Strongly reminded me of my teenage years and a girlfriend who loved teenage fan club. I always thought they were ok but nothing groundbreaking

I listened to this driving home from work with blue skies and warm sunshine and I feel that was the right atmosphere for this!

This is the first kind of country music I ever heard and it has likely soured my opinion on the genre because this is a giant steaming pile of shit

I was 15 when this was released and I can still sing all the songs and play half of them on guitar. Instant classic

I kept waiting for some revelation as to why this was included because it started so weak, but it started weak and if possible, got worse

I was a rock/punk/metal kid who thought if it didn’t have loud guitars it was worthless. Then, of all people, my mum handed me this on tape and told me to listen. It’s still in my regular rotation to this day

Weird mismatch of genres

The first REM Album I heard and still sounds great

Still sounds fresh nearly 50 years later but gets repetitive

The problem with most psychedelic music is that it’s not as good as this so pales in comparison

Found on YouTube. Interesting and different but not my usual music taste. Definitely worth a listen but I won’t revisit

The reason I started this project was to find hidden musical gems. It hasn’t always worked that way but this is great. So different from my usual music but hooked me in

It’s ok, some songs are close to great but don’t quite cross the threshold

Hasn’t aged well, if it was ever current it is now a weird historical snapshot

This was absolutely everywhere as I was finishing university. You couldn’t escape his shiny head. The music is ok, not my kind of thing but reminds me of a good time in my life
