A girl who I had a big crush on gave me a pirated tape of this in 1995. I didn’t know it was pavement but I listed to it a lot. It was a nice blast from the past!
I loved this when I was 15, now I’m sadly, significantly older than 15 I can see it’s a bit repetitive. On a rope is great everything else is ok
Another curiosity. How does this warrant inclusion? It isn’t original, compelling or even competent
Grindcore is not everyone’s cup of tea but I have friends in grindcore bands so I have heard a lot. It’s not my favourite but sometimes it scratches a particular musical itch

Fun but the skits just drag the rating down
Top 20, maybe too 10 album for me
All his songs are stolen from better artists and he is a paedo
Some good riffs but nothing else is worth the energy
I must be getting old. Thought they were shit when I was a kid but it’s not bad
wtf was that!
It’s ok nice enough voice but I wouldn’t revisit
Was absolutely inescapable when it was relevant I never got the hype
Putting his massive ego and highly problematic personality aside (which is hard because he is a massive piece of shit) I can see why this is considered highly but it doesn’t move me
Like a lot of modern pop music it feels bland
Weird aunt poetry
I think this is the 4th Joni Mitchell album and frankly I do not understand why she has this much material on this list. Is any of it truly groundbreaking or deserving? It’s weird post hippie folk
It takes a lot of skill to make something this shit with a group of talented musicians
Ginger baker was a totally pointless addition to this record! Nice to hear some different music on this list!
It’s ok, not bad but not great
I thought this must be a repeat because I swear I had heard this a few weeks ago but I think all the albums from Elvis Costello and the attractions sound the same
It’s the same variation of a song again and again
Painfully 90s electronic beeps and boops
Like hot chip but not as good
Not bad but not sure why it is on this list
Doesn’t feel like it quite gets going and falls short of its own potential
Just does nothing for me
Boring and derivative! I cannot understand how this makes the list!
The singles were unavoidable in 2001, they weren’t great then and time hasn’t improved them
For a very influential album it is amazingly shit!
This is just not good and I can’t remember it being important when it was released. No idea why this makes the list
Starts with something for the weekend which is, meh at best and it’s all downhill from there
Was sitting in the sun while listening to this, which is definitely the right atmosphere
Queens best album? Maybe, maybe not, but it is great!
Starts dull and lifeless and somehow goes downhill from there
When I was 5/6 I would walk around my house singing these songs because my sister was a big fan. So it was very nostalgic listening!
Had to search around and found this on YouTube. Good house music is not always easy to find but this is great!
Folk is not my thing but there are is some interesting musical ideas in this
I like nick cave and the bad seeds but this is not their best work and im not sure why it’s on this list
Bad poetry with mediocre music
I couldn’t understand a word of it but this was great!
The first time I saw this artist was reading a cbeebies bedtime story. The reading of that kids book was much more entertaining than this
Not offensive but also not good
Couldn’t stop bobbing my head or tapping my feet
I have long loved hardcore punk and Bad Brains are the keystone band in that scene
Listen to the Iggy mix and this album is fantastic! Good old fashioned dirty rock and roll
In the age old question of Beatles or Stones I would also say Zeppelin. This is probably my favourite Rolling Stones album but it’s just good not great
Eclectic but awesome!
I first heard PJ Harvey on the John Peel show in probably 1991 and have long been a fan!
It was ok for what it was. 60s pop is not my thing
These are classics for a reason!!
I haven’t listened to this front to back since my teens. Like most double albums there is some bloat but even the weaker songs have interesting musical or lyrical ideas (or are just plain weird)
It was ok, not mad it’s on the list but not my thing
I knew this was on the list thanks to the Reddit group, so I had pretty low expectations going in. Surprisingly it’s actually worse than I thought. His flow is weak his rhymes are asinine the music is poor. Sadly I can’t give a negative score
Pleasant pop not super inspiring
Never listened to much reggae and this is new to me but it’s great! Will be listening to this again (and again!)
Is it pretentious? Yes, yes it is but I still love it!
One of my ex girlfriends loved this album and would play it all the damn time!!!! Dusty’s voice is incredible!
It was fine not good not really bad but just ok
There was a lot in here. Felt like he had been collecting songs for a long time and finally decided to record all of them! Some good some bad most were pretty ok
Was i expecting rock opera over the top production and performance? Yes. Did i expect to enjoy it as much as I did? No Fun, ridiculous album
I’m all for experimental electronic jazz but wtf
I don’t think I have heard any of these tracks before and they were all killer no filler!
Dull! I have no idea why this was so lauded at the time of release it’s uninspired musings and sparse guitars just do nothing for me
Really good funk/jazz 4.5
After some digging around I found the full album. It wasn’t worth it
Love this album!
Somehow this passed me by at release. Enjoyed it, some parts didn’t connect but enjoyable, interesting songs
I had heard some of these songs but never the full album. It’s just not that great. I know this “revolutionised” production but it is massively over produced which distracts from the core of the songs buried in there
Meh was fine I guess but made me think of dentist waiting rooms
A girl who I had a big crush on gave me a pirated tape of this in 1995. I didn’t know it was pavement but I listed to it a lot. It was a nice blast from the past!
Shit!
This is the 2nd divine comedy album that has come up and it’s worse than the other one. No idea why this is in the list!
Moments of absolute brilliance with some mediocre sections. Pretty much sums up most of Yes’ output
I was shocked how much I enjoyed this. I was aware of the hits (who isn’t?) but it was cheesy and enjoyable
It was ok some good sections and lyrics but not really engaged through parts
It still sounds good and I remember when this was released!
Some mediocre elements surrounded by mostly crappy music
I remember my wife loving this when it was released but I don’t recall ever listening to it, which is a shame because it’s great
Reggae from Birmingham hating on thatcher is always worth a listen
Perfect for a sunny Sunday afternoon, or a dentist office
Some good parts but generally not enjoyable
Bland with sparks of good music, but the good is spread pretty thin
1st half is immense 2nd half is really really good even if some of the sonic experiments don’t quite land
I never gave this a chance when it came out, and that was a mistake it’s full of great tunes!
Generic Brit R&B
I listened to this when it came out and recall enjoying it but I just have been depressed because it is good but I don’t think I’ll listen again
Not exactly the jam, and that is a problem
Some songs are really good but back to back you realise how shallow it all is. It feels a little over produced and lacks authenticity. I know they are looked down upon by the hardcore metal/punk crowd and I kind of get it
Sounds like a demo tape but one of the more interesting folk albums this list has thrown my way
Great album but the songs went on longer than most needed.
I knew most of these songs and they are all great. Definitely a movement starting record and undoubtedly vital
Bob Dylan does nothing for me, actually that’s not quite true. Bob Dylan makes me bored. Is it important? Sure I guess, enough people say it is but, no thanks
Great voice and some songs are great
It’s jazz designed to make you hate jazz
No idea why this is in the list. Just seemed weak all around
Incredible songwriting
Thought it was misogynistic, homophobic and not great when it was released but it has aged poorly.
Failing high school French probably impeded my enjoyment
This is very late 90s boring pop
Definitely needed some editing to tighten up some of these. There is a great album buried in here somewhere
!!!it’s shit!!!
This sounds best driving through a northern town in the rain
It’s been years since I listened to this front to back and it’s still just as good now as it ever was
Could have been great, it wasn’t
My mum would play this on long car journeys, I must have heard this dozens of times!! Weird and good!
Reminds me of nights out as a student in the soulless clubs full of posers
It’s ok. I remember when it came out with all the NME hype but I always felt it lacked something but not sure what
Good memories of the early 90s and listening to this on copies cassette!
Marvin Gaye is always good but this isn’t the best
Music made by committee and is as soulless as you expect from that
Nice voice but music is a bit shit
Pretty good probably won’t listen to it again
Dill just does nothing for me
Incredible voice but most songs are just ok
I don’t have a specific number for how many bongos are too many bongos but this is pretty close
Starts good but the trails off
I loved this when it came probably because I was a 14 year old boy. Listening back objectively this was when Metallica starting to decline musically. Its good but not great
Nothing interesting or new
Pretty solid but nothing groundbreaking
It’s not bad but it is boring. I guess you have to be in the right mood for it
Meh weird folk is still folk and it sucks
Occasionally hints that good songs are in there but did not enjoy
For ambient music it was good I guess being in the right mood for it would probably help too
Listenable but not great
This was interesting, but not in a good way, felt like it was a joke gone wrong
Good quality grime but lags in places
Wtf!
I always find with jazz I love it and think it’s an incredible or I think it’s fucking wank. This is a masterpiece
Fun, weird, interesting
I enjoyed it much more than i expected to
It’s fine sad beck is sad
All killer no filer
Like most prog there are great songs hidden within, but needs a good producer to cut the crap out.
Never really understood The Whos popularity, they have a few good hits but this was just bad from start to finish
I loved the monkees as a kid so this was weirdly nostalgic, it’s not great but it is fun
This came out when I was 18 and it was an important moment in music at that time. Still holds up
Him being an ego manic, nazi asshole aside, this just isn’t very good and I cannot understand why people think he’s worth listening too
Van Morrison is obviously a bit of a crank weirdo but he can make some good tunes
David Gray once hit on my girlfriend in a bar in Manchester in front of me. She laughed in his face and told him to fuck off. When I said did you know who that was? She replied he’s that sad boy singer and he’s a twat. She was right
I know this list has a strong UK bias but how is this on the list!
Racist white man steals all his best licks from black musicians and somehow makes it bland.
I loved this when it first came out and haven’t listened to it for so so long, which is a shame because it’s still brilliant
It’s good but it’s the same good thing again and again and again and again and again
I didn’t realise I needed a 12 min version of papa was a rolling stone but I did
Good relaxing walking music. No great highs or lows just good
My favourite Bowie album is always changing but it’s currently this!
Great album for dark winter nights
I like it but it does not deserve to be on this list
East 5/5. Phenomenal debut album by one of the best bands to ever do it
This album was very important to 16 year old me and is still in my regular rotation.
Surprised how much I enjoyed this!!
Surprised this amateurish debut made the list.
Roooooootttsssss blooodddyyyy rooooottttsss
Some great songs some mediocre and some just did nothing for me
This is an album made by the worst human being at a party who decides everyone needs to hear his insipid fake spiritual songs about “his journey”. What a terrible pile of wank
Tedious
Not my favourite album by Prince, but still great funky, inventive tunes
Sadly just as relevant today as it was 30+ years ago Still a great aggressive indictment of the American dream
They clearly are all talented musicians but zzzzzzzzz
I had heard of Hanoi rocks but never actually heard any of the music. Now that I have heard it I’m unimpressed
It’s not complex, it’s not subtle but that’s the charm
Good for what it is, solid songwriting and good arrangement but leaves me cold
Some good songs some bland songs but having this on cd got me laid in university so I should probably score it higher!
I have a vague recollection of hearing some of these before but it’s blandness overwhelms any memory
Sympathy for the devil is good everything else is very meh
Another one of those albums where i question why it is in the list. It’s ok but boringly early 2000s indie
Some fantastic songs in this compilation. Funky, proggy Brazilian bossa nova is a lot of fun
I am not a fan of soulless pop music but there were some solid tunes on here but feels over engineered at times
Great voice not great off broadway tunes
Great voices mediocre songs
Music was great lyrics were a little boring
Lots of good ideas spread thin across the entire album
Rave music really needs to be heard in a dark club full of people. Listening while driving to work made me feel old and made the music sound weak
There are too many bland 60s rock albums on this list!
I expected more from REM but this did nothing for me
I have already heard this a bunch of times and enjoyed but but my 5 year old Was on the car while I was listening and he loved it
Some great songs some artsy for the sake of artsy songs
Great voice but the songs and production just don’t hit the mark for me
Tainted love is amazing everything else veers from ok to meh
Not the best recording quality and most Motörhead song are pretty similar. But it’s still a great album that deserves to be cranked up
My younger brother loved drum and bass and i do not. The only time it makes sense is in a dark sweaty club with some chemical enhancement
I’m sure I have had an orbital album show up already. This list absolutely does not need more bland early 90s Electronica
Massively dated, good beats but let down by weird adolescent lyrics
I remember when this came out and it had some catchy tunes but to me they don’t hold up to repeat listens
This is my second favourite Radiohead album and in my personal top 30 favourite albums. It was quite a departure at the time but it rewards for repeat listens
Weird but enjoyable. I don’t think I have heard any of his music but I have definitely heard his name before
Hasn’t aged well but some little nuggets of good ideas tucked away in some songs
I listen to this a few times a year. Still as good now as it was 30 ish years ago
I lived in Oxford at the time they got big and you would see them in pubs and kebab shops a lot. Nice guys but this does not deserve to be on the list. It’s good but not as good as the debut and it makes no sense at all for it to be here
Pretty good in parts
My first girlfriend would listen to this and the spin doctors non stop, it is not a good combination of generic 90s “alternative” rock
Starts with their biggest hit and it’s a slow tumble into mediocrity after.
I really like this as background music while doing tasks, it’s good but while sitting quietly and listening it just doesn’t quite reach great
I never really understood psychedelic music I guess because I wasn’t off my head but this just doesn’t do much for me
I had never heard of this and after listening to it once I’m going to try and forget it
Good for a debut but not great
Good for synth pop but goes on too long
I know it’s cool to hate country but this is just a perfect example of why country gets hate. Musicianship is good but lyrics and tone are terrible, misogynistic shite
Proto Brit pop had some good ideas sprinkled in but not enough to make it enjoyable
My mum had this on vinyl so listening again after 30 ish years I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it
Psychedelic music always sounds similar and this is a tedious entry to the genre
Always enjoyed the music and crazy riffs but Dave mustains voice always grated on me. Still good dumb thrash fun though
Great opening (probably their best song) but downhill rapidly
This is a debatable 5 for me It’s loud, punk, noise but musical and interesting, a little repetitive but not in a bad way
Boring generic and forgettable
I didn’t know his music but I heard this guy was a massive twat. Turns out music written by a reprehensible nobhead is also shit
Never heard of this but really enjoyed it
I was never a fan of U2, the hits/singles were always ok but not great and i never got the hype. Listening to this made me question how they are so big. This was just dull and felt made by committee
I kept waiting for it to get better after weak start but it never peaked its head above mediocrity
Lots of good ideas in this demo tape, oh it’s actually the finished product? Oh, feels like a bunch of good ideas but not fully fleshed out songs
Good vibes but not for me
Some excellent sections but more fell flat than soared
I have no idea how this is on the list. Yes it’s better than kid rock but that’s not difficult. This has no musical or cultural significance
This sounds very familiar to me, I just have had this on a cassette tape but not knowing who it was.
Generic 60s white guy rock. Uninspired
I listen to this once or twice a year it’s not perfect but i need to sit back and immerse myself in this occasionally as it evokes great memories
It was ok, some sections had moments of greatness but not enough to salvage a good rating
I hadn’t listened to this in a long, long time and in my mind it was one of the weaker SOAD albums. It might not be their best work but it’s still great
I like the blues but a lot of songs end up similar in sound and structure. This has enough variety to raise it above the average blues album
If someone asked me to make generic early 90s rock I would make this
I like billy bragg but I wouldn’t normally sit down and listen to one of his albums. This is good stuff
Easy 5. A sophomore album that sounds like a greatest hits compilation
Surprisingly good and surprisingly horny
I haven’t listened to this front to back in over a decade and I had forgotten how good and cohesive it is. Great album no weak links
One of my sisters loved this so I, naturally for a younger sibling hated it reflexively. But it’s good, strong well written songs and he has a great voice
It’s fun and campy but the songs are actually good
If this is what country music sounded like maybe I would like it!
Nice voice, kinda boring
Cool jazz for cool cats
Johnny Cash at his flawed best. Probably one of the best live albums, the crowd (inmates) are like another instrument and add a depth to the recording often missed in other live recordings
Good and interesting
Pretty good but not as good as their debut
Sledgehammer was played to death on MTV but I hadn’t listened to the rest of the album until now. It’s good and obviously Peter Gabriel is a great musician and artist but it just didn’t grab me
Some of my high school friends loved industrial music but I never gave it a chance. That was a mistake, this is great
My mum would play this a lot on car journeys so it is ingrained in my brain. Is Paul Simon a bit of a twat? Probably! Is this bordering on cultural appropriation? Quite likely, but it’s catchy and introduced some African artists to the wider world
This was hard to get through because I was so bored
The smiths are great, morrisey is not
It’s good, it’s not my thing but I enjoyed spending time listening
Vocals were meh music was also meh not terrible but a one and done listen
I didn’t realise prog flute was a thing. I don’t recall ever hearing any jethro Tull before but this was pretty good
By far Lennons best post Beatles work. I but pretentious a bit arrogant and pretty raw
Scottish proto indie had some potential but didn’t reach it with this
Pretty vanilla and pretty boring
The sum is better than the parts on this alt rock classic
Def leppard became a joke to us 90s alternative kids and this hasn’t aged well but it is much less terrible than I expected going in
Weird and whimsical but not in a good way
A classic for a reason. Political poetry and funky beats
Another boring indie album
Björk is weird but not in a fake forced way. I appreciate the artistry but it doesn’t always work for me but this album deserves repeat listens
Starts ok with some promise but soon runs out of steam
Grindcore is not everyone’s cup of tea but I have friends in grindcore bands so I have heard a lot. It’s not my favourite but sometimes it scratches a particular musical itch
Generic and it just seemed to go on and on and on. Don’t know if it was because I found it boring but it seemed to never end!
Found it after some searching. I really enjoyed this I was vaguely familiar with throwing muses but not sure I have listened to more than 1 or 2 songs.
I felt like I had heard all of these songs before but I realised that a bunch modern bands have been very very influenced by this!
I generally like Jack Whites music but I wasn’t keen on this when it came out and it hasn’t aged well
Good but not great, hard to follow rumours and this falls well short
I like it but I don’t love it. Feels like something is missing from it but I can’t put my finger on what
Probably Brian Enos most accessible music. Good stuff
Elvis is back but it wasn’t worth it
Not a big Neil young fan but there was plenty to like on this
Taylor Swift gets a lot of hate and I get it but some of these songs are pretty damn catchy. It’s not the music I like but I can see the appeal
I don’t like country typically but this guy has a good voice and the album was short and to the point which is always appreciated!
Synth pop is 1979! Clearly influential just not great
Fun and interesting. This is the type of music I was expecting to find on this list , not crap like kid rock!
It’s pretty good, starts well but I was fading towards the end
Background music but good background music
It triggered my tinnitus but there was some good stuff buried in there it was just hard to pull out
Meh. Felt like an early 90s high school riot girl/ folk band in which everyone can kind of play an instrument but doesn’t know how to play together
Welsh rock with a twist. Pretty good
Not sure how to describe this, indie kids trying to make a lofi dance along extended instrumental. Either way it kind of works, kind of
My grandfather hated buddy holly, I don’t know why. Anyway the hits are ok everything else feels like filler
It’s not always easy separating the artist from the art and Morrissey is a massive twat. His songs are the equivalent of that moaning old man in the pub who you can avoid
When I was 16 I loved this. I’m. Not sure it’s aged well but it’s still pretty good
Phenomenal voice. Nostalgic listen as my mum loved aretha
Bit shit but different
Folk in general does nothing for me and this just epitomises the genre.
Wait, this isn’t a parody of country music?
Most songs feel 5mins longer than they need to be
Boring theatre kid shit
She has a great voice but it’s a bit sparse production and lacks a hook to keep me engaged
Is it folk, country, Americana? Not terrible as background coffee shop music but sitting down to listen in my car just found myself not paying attention
The hits are fantastic the filler is poor
I always thought they were Scottish and that’s why they sound so miserable. Not bad some good but not great songs
Freebird is good everything else falls short
I always associate Slade with drunk Christmas sing alongs but this we pretty solid
I have never knowingly listened to this album but a lot of the songs were familiar but then I realised they all sound the same. I’m not a fan and I have never really understood the hype
I listened to this when it came out because the hype was massive. There are some excellent parts and some really boring parts. After listening again today I won’t be revisiting this again
Just didn’t seem to get going, complete background music
I didn’t think I liked dark synth music. It turns out I don’t like people trying to copy Gary numan
I have to be in the right mood for elvis Costello and clearly I wasn’t today. It was kind of boring
I’m not sure how to feel about this. I had friends in bands as a teenager who sounded like this but less boring. So it’s familiar but sounds like teenagers first attempt at making music
I have listened to this on and off since the 90s. It definitely rewards repeated listens and good headphones and is generally best enjoyed loud. Can sound a little sad emo shoegazy, because it is
Found on YouTube but not sure this is an essential album or worthy of a second listen
I have listened to some fIREHOSE before and I like it although none of these songs stand out but they are good
You know what you’re going to get with zz top. The hits are good the other filler is so similar to each other it’s hard to tell them apart
Just uninteresting
I have a lot of Welsh friends who love this. I just find it amateurish and tedious
I loved this when I was 15, now I’m sadly, significantly older than 15 I can see it’s a bit repetitive. On a rope is great everything else is ok
It’s too long as a result the pacing isn’t great but it has high highs
I like her voice the songs are generally pretty good but nothing ascends to greatness.
Bjork was always different and while I appreciate a non standard album this just didn’t work for me. I’m glad there are artists doing this kind of weird shit though!!!
Boring
Kept waiting for it to get interesting, it never did
Ebbs and flows from great to wtf
The 2nd Tim Buckley album this month and it is as tedious as the other
Music was fantastic and a live album showcases the peak talents of everyone but the emcee yapping and length bring it down to 4 stars
I had never heard of this! Weird and cool and definitely doing their own thing
I reflexively dislike country music but I gave this a fair chance and it was shit
I do not like U2, I always found them pretentious but not in a good way. But this is very good
I was born in Manchester and spent most of my early life away from the city so I’m biased in my judgement of a lot of Manchester bands from this era. Saying that, I always loved the happy Mondays and they always felt like the best of the Manchester bands of the time
Sad goths actually make some pretty good tunes
It was ok, nice to have some non western music. Shame he is a piece of shit though. Trying to separate the art from the artist isn’t always wasy
Angry northern man shouts at the world!
The most interesting part of this was the album cover
This is the second Stephen stills album in a row for me. I really hope there are no more. This was duller than the other one
Sad Lou reed is sad
Great beats great lyrics which could also be from 2025 not 1991
Buffalo stance is great everything else sounds like pure distillation of 1989 music
This could have been a great 45min album but it felt watered down by the length
I had it on in the background and forgot it as soon as I heard it
Pretty cool, does not sound like it’s older than me!!
Mood music and the mood is “why am I still on hold”
Great guitar and bass tone and really well produced but, just didn’t grab me
Interesting and a worthy addition to the list.
I really didn’t enjoy the previous Tom waits album that was generated so I went into this with some trepidation but I mostly enjoyed this
Good, if slightly childish
It sounds good but treading familiar tropes and sounds
This just doesn’t do anything for me
Generic pop but because Madonna is attached it makes this list. It’s not great
I was once sat in the pub with my friends and we were talking about our “type” in women. I stated I didn’t really have a type but then all of my friends pointed out that my last 3 girlfriends all looked exactly like Sheryl Crow! Anyway, music is ok her voice is great but overall a bit bland
Buzzcocks were the joyful in their punk and were probably the most fun of the big punk names
I started with low expectations and was rewarded with a mediocre attempt at southern rock. It has no right being 90mins
She has a good voice but this is a bloated mess.
I listened to this under blue skies and sunshine which is not at all the right type of weather for this.
Wtf
I don’t get Lou reed, sure the album has some charm but that is all Bowies production, clearly I’m missing something
Bowie being Bowie, not his best but that is a very high bar
I was very skeptical at the time when the drummer from nirvana was releasing an album. But I loved its rawness and sound and I was at Reading festival to see them in one of their first gigs. Colour and the shape is the best album foos made but, to me, this is second
One good song does not make an essential album. I remember all the hype at the time of release and 20 something years later I still don’t get it
Sounds like someone described the cult to AI and it spat this out
So light and summery it becomes insubstantial
I like a few slipknot songs but I had never heard this album. It was too long poorly produced and mixed. If I was an angry 14 year old I would probably like it a lot more. It had great potential but didn’t climb above mediocre
I generally don’t like live albums but this is great
The year this was released was the year I moved away from England moving overseas. This has a deep nostalgia to me and I’m a big fan of PJ Harvey
If I had heard this independently from this list I would have thought it was a group of semi talented teenagers who just need a little guidance. But to find out this was their 4th album and on this list is shocking.
I’m not generally a hip hop fan and I was aware this is highly regarded but I had never listened to it before. It grabbed me quickly and wouldn’t let go go
Lots of great ideas but not cohesive or coherent
Feels soulless at times
Freedom 90 is by far the best track everything else is meh
Charismatic funky rap is my favourite type of hip hop
Noisy but musical, sludgy but coherent. I love this album
I haven’t listened to this front to back in a long long time. Classic for a reason
Likely is a complete masterpiece in a club full of people but sounded a bit meh when I was driving my car
Sorry Ms Raitt but this was shit
I’m pretty sure my sister had this on tape. Pretty nostalgic
I enjoyed it but it hasn’t stuck in my head so I’ll be unlikely to revisit
everything you want in a hardcore punk album. Fast, aggressive, and doesn't overstay its welcome
Smooth easy listening and generally good songs
Muse has always been a weird band for me. I enjoyed their more rock focused earlier stuff when they were clearly still trying to find their feet. But this album forward felt too polished, shiny and soulless
It’s nice, not great not terrible, easy to listen to
I dismissed Duran Duran because my sister loved them and I was a punk/metal kid. But this is fantastic, the bass work on this is phenomenal. Clearly the music snob child I used to be was an idiot
Started to get bored pretty quickly
Atmospheric but I began to lose interest
Post punk classic, I had this on a multiple copied cassette tape so not the best sound quality but it still grabbed me
I was being bouncing between this is great and this is weird I think I settled on “at least it’s interesting”
Dad rock, probably grandad rock at this point
No stand outs
I generally like noise rock if it is energetic and coherent. This has moments where it is just plain fun and others where I’m not sure what they were thinking. I’ll likely listen again to this as I feel it needs more than one go through
I remember when this was released and nothing sounded like it. It spawned a lot of imitators and it hasn’t aged well
Strongly reminded me of my teenage years and a girlfriend who loved teenage fan club. I always thought they were ok but nothing groundbreaking
I listened to this driving home from work with blue skies and warm sunshine and I feel that was the right atmosphere for this!
This is the first kind of country music I ever heard and it has likely soured my opinion on the genre because this is a giant steaming pile of shit
Very easy on the ears but maybe a bit too easy, starts to feel dull
I don’t get it
Started out with some mild promise but got slowly worse
I was 15 when this was released and I can still sing all the songs and play half of them on guitar. Instant classic
I kept waiting for some revelation as to why this was included because it started so weak, but it started weak and if possible, got worse
Sorry Brian but I just don’t get the appeal
I knew some of the hits but never listened to a whole album. This is really good especially for a debut!
Love the music but Dave mustaines voice always grated on me
Unremarkable. Musically good lyrically meh
It sounds like the kinks, I don’t really like the kinks
Damn, this was sexier than I expected. I know it has that reputation and it absolutely justifies it!
I always thought the band name was pretentious nonsense and I never listened to them but I mostly enjoyed this
Some great songs and some weird stuff mixed in
wtf was this! Not the bee gees I expected
I’m listening to this is high temperature and high humidity with a cold drink in one hand, so that might be effecting me judgement. But this is cool bossa nova jazz
It never seemed to get going, just cruising along being bland
I was a rock/punk/metal kid who thought if it didn’t have loud guitars it was worthless. Then, of all people, my mum handed me this on tape and told me to listen. It’s still in my regular rotation to this day
Weird mismatch of genres
The first REM Album I heard and still sounds great
Still sounds fresh nearly 50 years later but gets repetitive
The problem with most psychedelic music is that it’s not as good as this so pales in comparison
Found on YouTube. Interesting and different but not my usual music taste. Definitely worth a listen but I won’t revisit
I can see the ideas behind this but it just doesn’t quite work
Was really enjoying this then I realised how long it was and started to drift off. Was great for the first 45 mins
Boring techno is still boring with non western instruments
Great voice, weird music but in a good way
Not bad but missing something tk make it great
This was so hyped on release and it was shit then and shit now
There are too many Bowie albums on this list but this is great
Another curiosity. How does this warrant inclusion? It isn’t original, compelling or even competent
Obviously a very talented artist and I really like some of these songs but I start to drift off and lose interest about half way through
Another case of separating the art from the artist. This felt revolutionary when it came out but took me a few listens to get it
Bests were good, the idea was interesting but didn’t quite pull it iff
Meh
I do not get bob dylan, I have tried but he really does nothing but make me regret owning the ability to hear
Expected a lot more from this but it never seems to get going just plods along in mediocrity
Ac/dc basically have one song but that one song is good. Back in black is a better album but this is great
Kind of boring but I generally find Bruce Springsteen to be boring but this is a touch more dull than normal
Black Francis is better than frank black
Feels like 2 mini albums stuck together! Good stuff though
I struggled with this it started ok but I was getting bored quickly and it then I drifted off
Interesting and I liked it but this will need repeat listens to really dig in
Chill but average
Good but messy
I once saw skunk anansie at reading festival as a teenager. I remember them having a ton of energy. The energy of that comes across in this album, but I think I prefer the debut one
The music is good but billy corgan is a terrible frontman with an awful voice (and by all accounts is a massive twat)
After listening to each track I instantly forgot it
Bjork makes music for Bjork but this was interesting enough but didn’t make me want to revisit
Zero bad tracks and a fitting farewell
Fun but lacks something
Fun parts but no re listening potential for me
This was massive when it was released and you couldn’t escape it. I thought it was boring at the time and more so now
There are too many Neil Young albums on this list. I think the is the last of them for me and it’s easily the best
Forgettable
Not bad but didn’t live up to the excellent cover
Why are there so many Neil Young albums on this list!!!! I just don’t get it
First learned of this the same way most people did, via nirvana unplugged. So I got this on tape and was disappointed. Re listening for the first time in a long time and it’s still disappointing
The reason I started this project was to find hidden musical gems. It hasn’t always worked that way but this is great. So different from my usual music but hooked me in
It’s ok, some songs are close to great but don’t quite cross the threshold
Hasn’t aged well, if it was ever current it is now a weird historical snapshot
Inoffensive and boring
This was absolutely everywhere as I was finishing university. You couldn’t escape his shiny head. The music is ok, not my kind of thing but reminds me of a good time in my life
Some great songs some absolute garbage
