Reviews (page 2 of 13)

Deserves 1-star for the first track alone. There's nothing here for me.

I really don't care for this album. Lyrically uninteresting, which would be okay if the production could carry the project—but it can't. DNF'd

sounds like shit

I don't get it. Every single song on here literally has the same drum beat. Listening to this album was like going to a job you hate. You feel like you have to do a good job but it's not a pleasant feeling. At one point I stepped outside for about 30 seconds and when I came back in I thought it was still the same song. But no, it had gone on to the next song. That pretty much sums up the entire album.

Took me all of about 3 minutes to listen to today’s album. I started the song, listened for about 15 seconds, fast forwarded to the middle of the song and listened for about 15 seconds, and then skipped to the next. I hate electronica and no album is going to change my mind on that.

Hated this then, hate it now

Should be an option for zero stars. So interesting to me that so many rate this so highly. Different strokes.

i am not sad to have missed that the first time around.

No pienso escucharlo.

Didn’t like it

Brilliant, brilliant album. Love me some Prodigy. One of my very early music memories is watching Top Of The Pops when Firestarter got to Number 1. The song and accompanying video blew my little mind. Unfortunately the BBC banned it afterwards. Complete and utter Bastards that they are lol. As for the album itself, for me there’s nothing even close to a dud track. The three singles are definitely the stand outs but the likes of Minefields and Narayan more than hold their own. It’s been a year or two since I’ve listened to this in full and bloody hell I loved revisiting it. Top Track - Breathe, my favourite Prodigy track by a mile

hey bro... check out this crab....... what is there to say that hasn't been said already?? its the fuckin prodigy!!!! this album might as well be a "best of" compilation cos it's got basically all the best tracks they made since their mid-90s pivot to a big beat/electropunk sound. "firestarter", "smack my bitch up", "breathe", "mindfields", "narayan"..... i guess "spitfire", "girls" and "omen" are absent but this really is the bulk of the hardest big beat bangers they put out since the genre shift. even as someone who much preferred their earlier acid-infused breakbeat hardcore/techno stuff, i still don't think there's a single bad track on here. the 56 minute runtime is more than justified. absolute album of all time for sure. take these stars lads. rip keith flint...... ;_;7

Brutal!!

So hitting this album after a long streak of Doves, Ride, Willie Nelson’s Stardust, and The Byrds Sweetheart of the f*ing Rodeo, felt like making land after a long time at sea. In this land they understand complex rhythm and deep and resounding bass. Hallelujah! I almost wanted to cry. I DID dance! F* yeah!!! I almost wanted to give it a 5 out of my sheer joy. I don’t care what Maxim is saying. It’s really part of the rhythmic layers and the lyrics’ explosive nature are meant to be EXPLOSIVE, just like the beats that drop. It works. In fact it works so well, I AM giving it a 5. 5 Boolean: TRUE

Solid hits and the sound of an era . This album is amazing and one of the better commercial electronic albums within the then popular Big Beat genre (along with the Chemical Brothers Exit Planet Dust/Dig Your Own Hole). Favorite tracks: Diesel Power, Mindfields and Narayan. 5/5

I fucking love The Fat of The Land. I have for decades at this point. It knows exactly what it is, what it wants to do, is unapologetic about it and completely nails the landing for good measure. It completely ruined raves for me before I was even old enough to go to them, as most I've been to don't have near enough the energy this packs. More this please.

This is what i imagined the club to be like

Remember this being huge when it came out and a bit surprised to hear it still stands up. They never managed to take this anywhere but other bands took this approach to popular dance music. Surprised that this deserves its place on musical and influence grounds, but it does

RIP Keith

A must for techno/big beat lovers.

Rate: 10/10.

Awesome

Fantastic album.

9.5/10

oh hell yeah, sorry I'm advance to my friends and family, y'all gunna be hearing this a bit more. 5

Impressive how fresh this sounds all the years later 4.5*

This is still one of the best r cords when it comes to electronic music. These guys were making insane beats. A timeless classic.

The Prodigy's magnum opus.

9/10… big beat / industrial / *1997

Heavy Drums und Heavy Rap, feier ich.

Dude this was so awesome. This one just really checks all my boxes personally. It’s catchy both in melody and in beats. The breakbeats and synth lines are bangers from front to back. Idk how I’ve never heard this before. I’m a huge fan. Just a fuckin good time from beginning to end.

Fuck. Yes. My mum is a huge Prodigy fan and I have their Music for the Jilted Generation CD (maybe their best work) so there wasn't any question whether I was going like this or not. As for this album, I already knew it was going to peak with it starting with Smack My Bitch Up and Breathe. Firestarter is on here too. But I also found new tracks to love: Diesel Power, Mindfields, Narayan and Fuel My Fire. Some tracks maybe ran on for a bit too long but I didn't mind all too much. They've got such a strong, captivating sound. 5/5

The Prodigy's third best album, but still an absolute masterpiece that deserves at least 5 stars Part of the soundtrack of my teenage years. It really is a perfect album.

5/5 Loved it. Truly iconic. Such a treat listening to this again

What an album. A thumping journey from start to finish. No skips. 5 star!

Superb

Masterpiece

It's one of the best albums from the 90s. I know, I was there.

This review is going to be more riddled with bias than a ship is riddled with barnacles. This album was an absolute mainstay of my childhood; seeing that Firestarter music video aged 7 or 8 blew my mind and sent me spiraling through EDM and Electronic music for the next two decades. Coming out the other side in my 30s, not much of it survived in my music taste today, but this still sits on one of many thrones in my taste. Before I rattle off my favourites, it feels important, wherever possible, to say RIP Keith Flint. I always saw him as an Electronic Johnny Rotten, a maverick through and through who brought pure energy and joy to everything he did and a said to be gentleman off-stage. Beyond what everyone already knows in "Smack my Bitch Up", "Firestarter" and "Breathe", all of which boast dance floor-filling power, I want to highlight "Diesel Power" with it's unique industrial meets hip hop blend and the mysterious "Narayan" which Flint's voice sounded more beautiful than chaotic like the other tracks. All in all, a landmark album really, bringing EDM right into the mainstream without compromising any of it's soul. In the west, it didn't matter what crowd you belonged to, Prodigy did such a great job of art stealing and blending that they managed to get everyone jumping.

Not my favourite genre, but you can’t really do much better than this! This album is packed with hits all the way through. Very catchy and easy to sing along to after a few listens. Fun fact: Fuel My Fire is a cover originally made by the grunge-band L7. Favourites: Smack My Bitch Up, Climbatize, Breathe, Mindfields and Firestarter.

This shit fucking rips and I love it. Put me in a great mood

awwwwww yeah baby. quintessential electronic right fucking here. this album either makes you want to get up and just start moshing right then and there. either that or booting up an FPS from the late 90's or early aughts. it's assuredly what they were listening to while making it, too. genuinely think if you don't like this album you're either lying for attention or have dogshit music taste. 10/10 FAVOURITE SONGS: YOU COULD LITERALLY SPIN A WHEEL WITH THE NAMES OF THE TRACKS ON THEM AND I'D SAY I'D LIKE IT EVERY SINGLE TIME

Najs. Fucking gold

la nostalgie frappe fort

bayıldım ya bayıldım açar açar dinlerim hazırlanırken

I know this is ridiculously high ranked compared to a lot of albums here that are really formative to their genres, display an insane level of artistry, or can generally be referred to as the GOATs. However... I like big beat a lot, and I think its dated-ness adds to its charm, and I don't find any of it annoying, and this has been my default "throw it on and get shit done" album for years now. Sorry! :-)

I forget how much I love Breakbeat music until I listen to it every once in a blue moon and remember it's the best EDM genre out there. Maximum funny sounds. This one adds a rapper to it and makes it the even bester EDM genre out there.

Electronic dance goodness, this album hit the late 90's and early 2000's hard enough to seep into my awareness without me realizing it and probably informed a lot of what I enjoy about electro rock/ punk. Repetitious but in a way that works straight into my head and every song flows straight into the next with some decent variety between them to differentiate. Love the most popular songs as well as the songs I hadn't heard before.

Listened to it again and again. Forgot how great this album is — and “Mine Field”.

Now That’s What I’m Fucking Talking About!

Everything about this album still fucking rules. Smack My Bitch Up and Firestarter are still all timers, while Breath and Fuel My Fire are a bunch of fun. Honestly, this is an all thriller no filler album. Also the cover is legendary. Crab.

Ya know what this fuckin slapped today, it's just great. I think even though The Prodigy are massive they're kinda underrated, this holds up as one of the best of the decade IMO. WELL DONE LADZ

This is a great album

1000000000/10

quite possibly the hardest album cover in all of existence. and good songs

Goes so hard

Quality beats, great ideas and wicked noises. Makes me want to move. Easy 5

sorry but i'm british i have no choice but to give this five stars it's my duty

There's something totally unique about the Prodigy. So fun and experimental. I really enjoyed this Album.

Right, this one was a major staple of my teenage years but it's a hard one to review. Let's start with the ugliness and the very unfortunate misogynistic opening track. Man was this unnecessary. As a teenager who loved this album, I bought into the excuses they made. "It's just a sample, we didn't say that ourselves." "Of course, it's not meant to be taken literally." "Watch the video! It had a twist at end. See?? Not misogynistic now, right??" But as an adult who knows better now, these excuses are all pretty cringeworthy and I have to accept that it's just a toxic song, whether or not they intended it to be. Then there's the album title, which is a reference to military spending over social services. Sure. Edgy. But here's the thing. Take out the toxic sample of one song and the rest of the album is incredible. It's like an industrial punk album laced with electronic breakbeats. Keith Flint was one of those iconic lead singers who caused panic in parents because he was so weird looking and had that double mohawk haircut that looked like devil horns. I had never heard an album quite like this before, where the synths and drum machines felt as terrifying at heavy metal guitars and the music would occasionally break down into rambling psychedelic trips before ramping up the angry energy again. The album can send you to spaced out dream with "Narayan" and then race from danger with "Firestarter" before bringing you back to a heavier version of the punked out "Fuel My Fire". Through in deep hip hop influences in songs like "Diesel Power" and the album is (nearly) perfect. So yes, adult me is much like to skip the first track, but I still reveal in the nostalgic energy of my high school years with the rest of the album. It's a classic that I will always love. Well, 9 out of 10 tracks anyway. In a way, it feels like a very fitting final album for this challenge.

Amazing

ALBUNAZO PARA GENTE COOL. SI ESCUCHAS ESTO SOS ALGUIEN COOL.

As fantastic as I remembered

love this era

Masterpiece

Glædelig nostalgisk gensyn! Den her kørte på konstant repeat hos mig tilbage i slut 90'erne/start 00'erne. Et perfekt album fra start til slut.

Another all time classic. So powerful and edgy. For me, The Prodigy and Faithless stand head and shoulders above everything else in this genre, and this album is the absolute pinnacle. 10/10.

The Prodigy are one of the few bands of this type where I have enjoyed watching them develop their sound. When this came out I was blown away by the sheer aggression coming from the tracks. As I say, a good song has to make me feel something, this album mostly ticks that box. After revisiting this album after many years. I had forgotten how long some of the songs were, but that is not a big criticism though. Quality tunes across the board.

Literally the sound of my childhood

Classic

Standard

really loved this one. punk rock

438/1089 - When I first heard the Prodigy as a kid I was blown away by how they made those sounds. I also thought the guy said "bake sale" instead of "exhale."

This fucking bangs and that's all there is to it. Sometimes music really is just that simple.

This. Fucking. Rips. An excellent example as to how repetition can be used as a stylistic choice in music; you notice and feel the more subtle changes /because/ there’s not many, if any, big changes. Moreover, it’s the perfect dance music for cyberpunk dystopia, so I’d argue it’s aged very well. Also, that album cover is golden. 10/10, would get addicted to ketamine to appreciate more fully.

CACETADA

That opening track is super nostalgic feel like I have heard it a lot growing up at least the instrumental. Most of the tracks do not have the same oomf or the same sheen, in my opinion. 3.5/5

Awesome. Just awesome. All timer.

THAT video fucked me up as a kid - in all fairness, 12 years old shouldn't have been awake at 2 am on a school night to watch "banned" videos but eh. amazing album.

BRILLIANT.

Classic of its genre

If you don't like The Prodigy there's something wrong with you. Liam Howlett churned out classic track after classic track for several years (let's be fair, he was the driving force musically, no disrespect to the others). This album is full of classics, not just the 3 more "well known" tracks that hit the charts. Listening to this instantly took me back to my late 20's - and they were the best years of my life!!!!!

This is #day585 of my #1001albumsyoumusthearbeforeyoudie challenge, and… just yesterday, I was eating crab sticks and couldn't suspect that this record would land next. The Fat of The Land, baby. Just so you know, as a kid of the '90s, Prodigy was an indispensable name in my listening habits, whether you were into rock or electronics (I did both). As Metal Hammer once put it, this record is the point at which rave culture collided with metal culture. And I think this kind of ambivalence is the band's whole phenomenon. All singles, particularly "Breathe," are some of the biggest tunes of the era. "Narayan" turned out to be a delicious deepcut. This is a 5 out of 5, of course. Looking forward to #day586.

Way better than I remember.

Highlights: Smack My Bitch Up, Breathe, Diesel Power, Funky Shit, Serial Thrilla, Mindfields, Firestarter Tasty production all the way. Hit after hit - pure blast! The damn bass everywhere is just so nasty - rip to everyone listening to this on a laptop speaker. Funky Shit samples the Beastie Boys which I found it to be a nice touch cuz I love them too. It also has a bunch of these Jet Set Radio-esque sounds which I find cool. Narayan has a very cool combination of flowing bass and sound effects but I'm not sure if it's really a highlight - it's kinda long and long songs are always a bit sus. It feels cool as a part of the record, but not standalone. But that is ok, since this record has a great flow. It's a really thought out concept with minimal filler. It could carry a party on its own. I never heard Serial Thrilla before, but it was love at first sight. Climbatize was interesting because it was a rare instrumental - the thing is I either expected more of them or none at all. I can see a rave record consisting of a lot of instrumentals, but for it to have only one was weird to me and it kinda killed the flow. That's why the closing part was overall a bit weaker. But when the flow was on, it had a lot of great transitions between songs. If this came out fresh today I would have this on repeat for at least a week. Also, it has such a wtf cover but it works - a great album can't be great without a cool cover.

This took me back, still an incredible album, amazing bass throughout, every track a banger

I totally get it why it gets ranked so high.

This was cool Felt like I was in a sci-fi movie P.S best while high

It feels like all the meandering, overlong, repetitive techno the early 90s led to this. Prodigy produced a truly impressive electronic record. Edgy, gritty, and punk rock aesthetics shine through in a space often dominated by more dance forward sounds. Almost a complete inversion of Daft Punk's Homework, Fat of the Land provided a techno that utilized harder and heavier musical styles creating something unique and all their own.

Yes please

Beatific

Yeahhhhhhh!!!! A true nineties classic. I usually bitch when they put dance music here, but Prodigy are different. I mean sure this works incredibly well at the club (not on this album, but Out of Space is the best dance song ever) but the music also works great for album listening. The songs are super danceable and energetic but they also have narrative and progress and incredible dynamics. This really fuses all of the nineties dance music with some rock sensibilities and makes for a great listen. The dark industrial atmosphere takes me back to abandon warehouse raves in the best of ways. Five stars one of the best of the nineties.

Still amazing

BANGER AFTER BANGER

What could you possibly say that hasn't been said before? An absolute juggernaut of dnb.

Yes the soundtrack of my youth, driving around with this on my car stereo parcel shelf shaking from. The bass on my 6x9's

When half the songs are already in your Liked Songs playlist, you know you're in for a good time during your mandated listening.

Banger

HYPEEEEE

Sadly I am drunk Apparently a lot of these songs were put in movies because of the influence it had GREAT album for the background of a MTG Commander night 🙂‍↕️🥳🥳

Smack my bitch up

This rocked

Absolute class

One of my favourite dance albums. Amazing production, great vocals and some timeless classics. The world is a poorer place without Keith Flint and The Prodigy in it

hell yeah dude

Super! Nice and heavy!

Love the Prodigy, iconic

every song is the same but it WORKS

Лучшая песня: Smack my bitch up Худшая: Narayan Классика, что уж говорить

You don't like to dance you say? You don't need ecstasy to dance. But you do need to play this loud. Yes, louder than normal loud. Then maybe, just maybe, you will dance.

I might have squealed a bit when I saw this album come up. I've owned it since the day it was released, and it still holds up remarkably well. Some absolute classic bangers on here. Hard to be objective about one of my favorite albums of all time. May be the easiest 5 stars I've given yet.

Listened in the car to and from my parents. Finally after a bunch of boring, safe, or otherwise just pleasant music I get something that gets me blood flowing! From front to back it's just dripping in violent, angry, post-Thatcher British energy and I couldn't get enough. Still feels like listening to the future and I'm dancing in the club on Omega in Mass Effect 2. Almost 30 years later and maybe we need to start praising the Firestarters again. A classic.

Rave apocalypse in a leather jacket. Rating: 4.6/5 Short Review: This album is pure adrenaline. Loud, aggressive, and built for chaos, it feels like running through a city at night with your heart in your throat. Favorite Track: Breathe. Snarling, unhinged, and impossible to ignore.

I remember when I was younger and we all shared an iTunes account, my brother had downloaded Smack My Bitch Up and I thought I'd get in trouble if I listened to it. I can see now I was missing out on some great music. Can't help but wonder what else I've missed out on because I didn't like swear words 😔

Quel banger!?

really good

i’ll be really disappointed if i found out that while making me my parents didn’t listen to this

This is one of the best electronic/techno albums in existence, if you ask me. The 1-2 starting punch of "Smack My Bitch Up" and "Breathe".. then "Funky Shit", "Mindfields", "Firestarter", etc.. it's just a blast from start to finish. Liam Howlett is a creative genius, and his beats are simultaneously catchy, aggressive, and in-your-face.

Geniaal album!!! Dus slayy !!!

Great album of curious new sounds.

Fantastic album.

Oddly enough I could have sworn I reviewed this album already? Let me check…. No I guess not. I guess I just listen to this a lot. At least lately. So what’s that tell you? I also see that I mentioned prodigy 3 times in my album reviews. Not bad. I’ll need to check Bowie….yikes. So ya, this album. If dance or trance or whatever music this is classified as had a dark side, this is it. The beats hit hard, there is anger in the vocals and if you have seen these guys anywhere, you know that they mean business. For the genre, this is the top. So that’s how I will treat it. Even the instrumental tracks keep you engaged. Choice cut: Diesel Power

Fuck yeah!

Wow what a ride this album was, straight adrenaline the whole entire time. This whole album gave me Hotline Miami vibes and I am so for it, feels like something that would feature in the games. As far as electronic albums go this is something I would love to hear at raves and I can totally see the influence on future artists especially in the "Dubstep" and more modern electronic artists. One of my two problems with this album that keeps it from scoring up higher is some of the songs really don't know when to end, like it'll still be going strong and then just cut off and I was there was some kind of closer to each song. My other complaint is the album is a tad bit too long, I wouldn't cut any one song but I feel like by the time I got to Fuel My Fire I was done with the album. I am really surprised I didn't hear this one sooner but I am glad I checked it out now rather then later.

Soll ich jetzt den Breakbeat zünden? 🔥

Classic breakbeat anthems

After days of bluesy rock bands from across the decades, having this roll along was rad.

Where's crab rave?

Dance club classic from my youth. Played it three times during the day, felt like dancing.

God hearing this album was a great, still bummed that I didn't get to see them in the US tour before Keith passed away, rest in peace firestarter

Banger after banger

Another Prodigy classic. They’ve got their foot on the gas the whole way through as they delve into a slightly more aggressive sound. Honestly I have no idea how I’d rank their first three albums, all amazing. A couple of the songs run a bit long for me on the back half but the album is primarily filled with hits. This is their best album cover as well, iconic. Rating: 4.8

absolutely fire. this shit is like crack. standout tracks: smack my bitch up, breathe, narayan, firestarter

One of my favorites in the 90s. Nothing in the list so far sounded anything like it. I guess i dont always have the energy for this but when i do this is so cool.

Banger after banger. A classic electronic album that any fan of the genre needs to hear.

Every single track on this album is a hit. The aggressive tracks on this defined a lot of the sound I remember from the later 90s.

techno

🙌🙏🙌🙏🙌🙏🙌🙏🙌🙏🙌🙏🙌

It’s great!

This is a total masterpiece. I have loved this album since 1997.

It's just unhinged fun and danceable energy, full of memorable hooks and beats, yearly listen mandatory

Ett helt mästerligt album. Skickade antagligen gruppen in i allmänhetens medvetande med låtar som Smack My Bitch Up och Firestarter. Ve

MASTERPIECE!

I listened to this three times in a row. It's so fun! I've always known 'of' prodigy, but never listened to a full album all the way through. Is all electronic music this good??? anyway, 5 stars, gonna bang this one often.

I'm so happy to go from the completely flaccid Steely Dan to rock hard and throbbing The Prodigy. This is an album that really defined a genre in the late 90's and held prevalence well into the 2000's. With this album I think, high school, Unreal Tournament, CKY, that crappy movie Swordfish with John Travolta, Halle Berry and Hugh Jackman, and Blade. This album blends EDM and rock/punk in such a great way that really amps you up. Yeah, the style is a bit outdated now, but these songs went so hard at the time and were revolutionary by combining heavy rock with rave culture, and they fit so well.

I like the crab on the album cover. Electronica hasn't been my favorite genre, but this has vocals that keep it interesting. I would say this type of electronica is definitely more palatable to me. I would probably listen to any of these songs again and if someone ever wants an electronica album to listen to, I can recommend this one. Mostly for the crab.

This is a great album. Love to listen to it during a workout

Wall to wall bangers.

Incredible album that stands the test of time

always loved this album

Time travelling to1997 i was only 17 and i remember as a huge Prodigy fan that i had bought this album on cd and that i had to work hard to raise money to do so.Good memories.Big Beat with a punkish attitude and a lot of great sampling from Liam and Keith's first time doing vocals for 4 legendary tracks.Maxim did 2 i think. The samples in this album are quite eclectic and shows clearly Liam's influences.I'll try to name all of them,as some were not mentioned in the album's credits. Smack My Bitch Up samples Bulls on Parade by Rage Against the Machine (1996),a riff by Kool &The gang's Funky Man,bass and drums of In Memory Of by Randy Weston (1973) and the vocals of Give the Drummer Some by Ultramagnetic MC's (1988).The video caused a small havoc for women's rights as it was considered as a misogynist one.At times you get a meditation vibe especially with the female oriental vocals.A banger. Breathe samples the video Fx from A Game of Chess Is Like a Sword Fight from Shaolin and Wu Tang (1981)(wait,i rated this whole album already!),Johnny the Fox Meets Jimmy the Weed by Thin Lizzy (1976),and The Rill Thing by Little Richard (1970).Punkish addictive vocals by Keith on top.Genius. Diesel Power samples The Fuz and Da Boog by Fuzzy Haskins (1976),P.S.K. - What Does It Mean? by Schoolly D (1985)(wu tang influences again),The Manipulator (Dub Version) by Mixmaster Gee and the Turntable Orchestra (1986).The few secs intro reminded me a bit of Air's Sexy Boy intro.Great oldscool guest rhyming by Kool Keith. This one is more like a hip hop track with heavy electronics.Absolutely fantastic. Funky Shit samples the vocals from Root Down by Beastie Boys (1994),horn sample of the Theme From S.W.A.T. by Rhythm Heritage (1975),The Fuz and Da Boog by Fuzzy Haskins (1976),and the Break! vocal sample from B-Boyz's 2,3,break song.Funky ,aggressive and powerful as hell.Modulation ''show off ''skills by Liam. Serial Thrilla contains a reversed sample of Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana (1991),a riff from Selling Jesus by Skunk Anansie (1995),and a sample from Nil by Autechre (1994).I.m pretty sure i hear 4 other samples as well but let's leave it to that,Electro-punkish outcome with Keith on vocals again.Be careful with loudness in this one especially at the end. It's like your laptop is having a seizure haha. Mindfields samples Amen, Brother by The Winstons (1969),basic riff is from Hip's Trip by John Barry (1974)(James Bond OST),King Kut by Word of Mouth feat. DJ Cheese (1985).From Big Beat to Breakbeat. One of my favourites. Narayan guest vocals are from Crispian Mills of Kula Shaker 's fame(somewhere in the middle the Narayan line vocal transforms into a mystic mantra). It also contains samples from Sport by Lightnin' Rod feat. Kool & the Gang (1973),CRYING OUT by Spectrasonics Virtual Instruments (1995)and the amazing piano is a sample from Josephine by The Milwaukee Coasters (1968).I remember back in 1997 that the piano hooked me from the beginning and that instantly made Narayan my top tune from this album. Firestarter samples the vocals from Close (To the Edit) by Art of Noise (1984),the wah wah guitar riff of S.O.S. by The Breeders (1993),and drums from Devotion (The Voice of Paradise Mix) by Ten City (1989).I think i have this one and Breathe as cd singles somewhere..This is the punkiest track of all.I still remember how scary Keith was in the video. Climbatize samples a horn riff from The Horn Track by Egyptian Empire (1991),Won't Get Fooled Again by The Who (1971), and the drums from Air Drums From Outer Bongolia by Jedi Knights (1996) who wanted to sue Prodigy for that ,but XL company of the Prodigy bought the rights from the original song Bongolia by the Incredible Bongo Band ,so they sued Jedi Knights instead,-Ha-.And they were not the only ones. This track is also a favourite. There is a certain funkyness and a hidden psychedelia.Kudos to Liam again for gluing the puzzle in a genius way. Fuel My Fire is a cover of Fuel My Fire by L7 (1994) and has also samples from Katmandu by David Whittaker (1993).Sorry not Firestarter, this one is the punkiest song in this album. Also a favourite and what a closing song! They were named as electronic punks for a reason. 5/5

Could have sworn we’ve had this before but one I don’t mind listening to regularly. I remember as a kid listening to firestarter on totp and thinking ‘if this is music I want no part of it’ and then hearing again and suddenly being all in. I must have got angrier. Probably a 4.5 that I’ll round up

Always knew the Prodigy, but never listened to a full album of their's. I didnt expect to like this album as much as I did! Super energetic and a ton of fun! It does feel like it drags a little towards the back half but nothing to fully take me out of the experience. I'd probably rate it a 4.5/5 but have no issue giving it the full 5/5

Very good album, 101 of break beat and drum and bass music and UK music at all.

4.5 Fuck it it's creeping into 5* territory. Forgot how good this was. Funky shit through to Mindfields drags slightly but other than that it's banger after banger after banger. Makes me wish I didn't rinse this dry as a young teenager before my rave days, which are now sadly long gone. The best tracks are the less known ones. Narayan, Climbatize etc. phenomenal stuff.

I fucking love this album, it’s in my collection - Keith Flint🙌 RIP

This is probably my favourite electronic record ever. They blend electro with punk and funk so well, it's just a non-stop bop. Every track just makes me want to jump from my seat. I love it!

Bombastic, big sounding album that was the ultimate bridge of heavier rock music with the fast tempo rave/electronic music scenes crossing together perfectly.

Amazing

so epic

Classic anthems! Nostalgia

*Smack My Bitch Up: song titles to bring home to your family. never heard these guys before but this is sweet, so different from anything I've gotten on the list so far. reminds me of Celldweller or Blue Stahli *Breathe: so so so cool. feels like a precursor to Linkin Park *Diesel Power: bass is fat every song. sick twist on a boom-bap beat. blew my mind drastically fantastically *Funky Shit: boss fight music. synth sounds like that tube toy that you turn upside down Serial Thrilla: it feels like all the different elements should clash but it just works somehow. maybe it works because it all clashes. a bit repetitive though *Mindfields: that first break when the bass drops in goes crazy. still goes a little sick in the head the second time. BEST shot *Narayan: 9 minute song, locking in. The Mars Volta ass vocals. that chorus is gonna be stuck in my head for days Firestarter: came in so much more British than I was expecting. vocals kinda kill this one for me *Climbatize: like this one *Fuel My Fire: like this one too. it's lowkey bad but good bad. the "you liaaaaaaaar WEEooWEEooWEEooWEEoo" part eats and licks the plate clean sounds like so many things I've heard but also nothing I've heard at all. big fan of this album __ SCORE: 8/10 ADDED TO PLAYLIST: Smack My Bitch Up, Breathe, Diesel Power, Funky Shit, Mindfields, Narayan, Climbatize, Fuel My Fire

Easy and immediate 5 for me. Already knew and loved this album. "Smacked my Bitch Up" into "Breathe" into "Diesel Power" is a fantastic run, and most everything else here is really good too. "Fuel My Fire" is maybe the only weaker spot here.

Classic, dirty, electronic dance masterpiece. 5/5

At last! After a few weeks of soul, folk and rock, an album that makes me truly FEEL something! Settle down people with smutty minds - you know what I mean! It's loud and intimidating but you want it louder. You want to be immersed in the aggression and strange, unsettling sounds and sequences and it reminds you of all the things that piss you off and how fucked up everything is at the moment. And you just bounce all over the place before emerging at the end, completely regulated. It's just genius! Apart from the three singles, Narayan and Climbatize are brilliant and bookend Firestarter brilliantly. There's no real filler to be honest. A consistent stomper! Thank you.

GOLD GOLD GOLD!

I know every single note of this album. The CD lived in my player for days in college. Beyond the controversy that the band loved to court, it's an absolutely awesome, asskicking album. Still holds up almost 3 decades later. Must play at max volume.

OMFG what an album.

Wow. I did not expect to like this album as much as I did. It comes out of the gates hitting the gas and never lets up. Dynamic and exciting electronic with heavy rock elements that hypes you up and sustains interest throughout. Highly recommend. The singles and "Diesel Power" are highlights.

There are so many bangers on this album. The music is driven, fast and energising.

Smack my bitch up!!!

Amazing, one of the albums of my life! Forgot how good smack my B up was!

Amazing album that has that mid-90s fun dance music feeling. Lots of good samples. Vocals all sound like they would scare your parents if they heard this coming out of your room. Breath has an iconic synth bass line

underrated album cover

Banging

British Daft Punk! Makes me want to rave 🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀

Einfach nur geil. Auch nach fast 30 Jahren noch.

Really enjoyed this album! Great fun mix of electronic and rock!

The album that saw metal heads throwing shapes, and ravers jumping into circle pits. From the outrageous sample from Ultramagnetic MC’s Give the Drummer Some, hooking Smack My Bitch Up, to the literally incendiary Firestarter with the distorted guitar and pounding drum beat, via the hip hop beats of Diesel Power and the trippy Mindfields, Fat Of The Land is a landmark crossover album that Liam & the gang have never bettered. RIP Keef- the best rave dancer turned singer and the literal life of the party.

Yes, clubbing in the nineties!

It got real Funky real quick

still holds up 26 years later

Cracking album. Makes me wish I could still go to raves.

Another famous work -- may be biased here again since know it from my teens if not from the childhood -- never knew the electronic music might strike like this, and still holds its power after all this years.

Probably the most well known album of The Prodigy and for good reason in my opinion. High energy and solid songs throughout

Man this is a banger. Taking rave and acid and adding a dose of industrial noise, anger and metal and turning all the dials up to 11. This could have been a mess but it turns into a seminal album where every track is brilliant and there is no filler. Yes, you can take offense at the lyric sample from the first track and no one defends it. An all time classic

A tremendous return to form for The Prodigy. From the opening strains of Smack My Bitch Up to the mystic rhythms of Narayan this is a pulsating journey into the minds of a group at the absolute peak of their power.

Brilliant

Perfection

Banger after banger after banger. I don't feel I even need to listen to this one but I did. Because it's a modern classic. I first got into the Prodigy when they were doing Experience. In fact I saw them live with a bunch of ravers doing that album. When Music for the Jilted Generation came out, we listened to it incessentantly. It's fascinating to hear the progression through those two albums to this one which was so innovative. There are some iconic tracks on there (Smack My Bitch Up, Firestarter, Breathe) but my favourites are some of the less known ones (Diesel Power, Narayan). This album brings back so many memories but it's also a complete good time. Couldn't be anything less than five stars.

Better than Coldplay

Sublime

La techno, paura. Che gaso. Voglio il vinile.

A dream come true.

Superb. Cannot fault this. Just brilliant from beginning to end. I was worried it wouldn't hold up having two huge singles right at the beginning but it really did. No filler. Structured like a perfect live set. Crab.

This album still absolutely kicks it. So fun and bolshy. Of its time in a fun way. Nostalgic for me for several periods of my life, and I think also just a solid album. Well structured. Entertaining. Well put together, exciting, mid-90s (popish, rapish)rave. Playing at shock value in a way I find myself throughly respecting looking back at how rave culture was perceived at the time. Tbf this came out a month or two before my 15th birthday when i was already obsessed with their hits off this and Music For The Jilted Generation, and loving it in that teen way and then again later as a raver through my late teens, 20s and 30s defo plays into it, but yeah. It does exactly what it sets out to do with aplomb. Banger.

Really good production. High energy. Listened 3 times

How can you deny this album's awesomeness???!!!

Maturing is realizing you like The Prodigy a lot more as an adult than you thought you did in 1997 when you were 12 years old. To be fair, I always thought “Firestarter” was a cool song.

So stoked I got to see them perform live this year.

Great alternative alvum from 97. Considered their best.

Outstanding

Iconic

Still as great as it was when I first heard this in the 90's! The energy is intense.

Firestarter is the lullaby what German parents sing to their children. 😍 https://youtu.be/zcOhrtAFc-Y?si=LiuUQRmCBvabrpni

When this album came out it was huge. Everyone was listening to smack my pitch up and wearing shirts and baseball caps with ants. Music video aired only when the sun went down and of course cassettes with Mr. Crabs on the cover.

Snap my picture 📸

A step up in quality and thrusting Keith Flint into the limelight saw The Prodigy elevated into the big time for this album. The brilliant singles of Breathe and Firestarter are stand out tracks but some real gems in Mindfields and Narayan too. Brilliant live and a unique blend of dance and rock - all hail The Prodigy.

I very much doubt there is an album that sounds so big, energetic, and in your face as this on this list. Combines punk, rock and dance in a beautiful way no-one has bettered….yet. Is it their best album, well it’s got the most hits, so maybe. Does it matter, not really. It’s not cerebral, it’s purely to get you pumped, feeling big, and dancing. And it delivers big time. I get it’s kind of hard to understand this if you haven’t been exposed to it (or repetitive beats in general) in its live setting. Listening to this album I’m back in the Brixton Academy a few years ago, with them doing their first gigs after Keith’s death. I have NEVER experienced a vibe, the togetherness or energy like it (and I was sober). The whole place, and I mean everyone, front to back madly going for it for 90mins (would never happen for a rock band). Sweatier than a teenage boys forehead after viewing the Littlewoods catalogue lingerie section it was.

01) Smack My Bitch Up - 10,0 02) Breathe - 10,0 03) Diesel Power - 10,0 04) Funky Shit - 9,5 05) Serial Thrilla - 9,5 06) Mindfields - 9,5 07) Narayan - 9,5 08) Firestarter - 10,0 09) Climbatize - 9,5 10) Fuel My Fire - 9,5 TOTAL: 9,70 (97/100) Current ranking: 13/659 I'm the trouble starter, punkin' instigator Psychosomatic, addict, insane Blows your mind drastically, fantastically Oh my god that's some funky shit!

Fantastic album. The tracks are contagious, adrenaline pumping to cosmic, kind of the pinnacle of the genre for me.

Still brilliant 28 years on.

Top 5 of all time, and definitely my hype up album. The singles are great, but IMO diesel power should get more credit

This album aged remarkably well. If I was into this style of music in the late 90s, I would have been a huge fan.

BREATHE WITH MEH!!!! favorite track: breathe

Hell, yes. I remember being so excited for this to come out. Bought it from Our Price. It’s still an absolute banger from start to finish. Such thrilling energy

Loved it. It's like a mix of rap and techno here and there. Clearly discovered a band im going to listen to now.

I guess if you like this sort of music this is an absolute classic. If you don’t then you probably don’t like it. I fall into the first category so it’s a 5 from me.

I've listened to quite a lot of EDM through the years, and this together with Jilted Generation are THE albums of the genré

Good, but I really like this kind of music

Almost every song still holds up, mindfields and breathe are works of art

Perfect

I once listened to Narayan while I was tripping on a train and didn't realise it had been looping for half an hour.

I'm an elder Millennial and listening to this album with headphones on helped me understand what nostalgia truly is. It's just... it's a little bit weird that I get nostalgic about shit like The Prodigy and Rammstein, right? 10/10 time machine back to the simpler times of being a freshman in high school, will definitely keep listening whenever I'm in the mood to forget about the 21st century for a while.

5 stars, mainly for nostalgic reasons. I remember listening to Narayan while riding on a particularly gnarly fairground ride age 14. It blew my mind then and it still does

Brilliant! Enjoyed seeing them on Glastonbury this year too!

Every album has a time and a place. For The Prodigy's "The Fat of the Land", that time is Anytime, and that place is Anywhere. No matter how your day/week/month/year is going, put this on and you are in a happy place.

got it

hát ez EPIC shit bassza meg.

I had a lot to do yesterday. Last day in Paris before the return home for the hibernation. Had a guy come to set-up the new WiFi box - which led me to get little sleep as I kept waking up thinking I had missed him. Then I had to book a work trip for September, answer emails and make progress on a paper. Also had to cancel the old internet, eat lunch, set up driving stuff, clean, sort the CDs, buy trousers for a wedding. Then fit in a dinner with my roommate in Belleville. This album provided the perfect soundtrack to what was an action-packed day. Had been on my list of to-listens recently, so was very happy to see it. It didn't disappoint - indeed, the energy it provided was perhaps unrivaled from any music I've heard previously. Made me think I could have done even more... Of course, Smack My Bitch is in rather bad taste and their explanation for it was not altogether very convincing. But it is an incredible song (on Spotify the video shows up when playing the album, didn't expect to see breasts on that of all apps lol) The run from Narayan to Climbatize via Firestarter is incredible. The ENERGY! It's not a perfect album, but it cannot but receive a 5* from me.

Brilliant album and one I already have.

A powerful, cinematic rush. Energizing, emotional, and impossible to sit still to. This is electronic music with real thought and craft behind it, balancing raw aggression with atmosphere. Perfect for imagining yourself in a high-stakes movie scene.

Nonstop banger after banger. Still goes hard 28 years later.

Electronica with the swagger of Rock N Roll & the sneer of punk. All 10 songs on The Fat of the Land are absolute bangers, one of the songs Smack My Bitch Up created a good deal of controversy as a result some radio stations refused to play it, some shops refused to stock it some shows refused to have The Prodigy on as guests and even had a then newly neutered , creatively dry group of Beasties Boys request for Smack My Bitch Up to not be played during The Prodigy's set at the1998 Reading festival where both bands headlined that year. Ironic coming from a band that wanted to title their debut album, 'Don't Be a Faggot!' BTW I love The Beastie Boys & I'm just having a jab at their late 1990's "enlightened" selves. The Fat of the Land is one of the finest albums ever released to dance to, make sweet love to or even to have a threesome that you might later regret. That's solid 5 stars territory for me!

Surprisingly hard to listen to the whole thing before giving 5 stars.

this is in my big beat 10, plus in a 1001 albums to listen before burial. Well deserved accolades 5 big beat stars

Oh my god that's the funky shit! Top 10 favorite album of all time. The definition of pumped. This is one of those albums that defined a genre. Electronic music wouldn't be what it is without The Fat Of The Land. Breathe and Firestarter blew peoples' minds when they dropped. The music video for Smack My Bitch Up literally only aired at midnight on MTV. RIP Keith Flint

At least 5 mega songs, whole album is great

One of my absolute favourites.

Firestarter!

# Playlist Track - Mindfields # Notes - This is a BLAST. - +1 for iconic album cover. - There are less-than-stellar moments, like the "Narayan" dragging itself a bit too long and the weird glitchy sounds that make me thing the computer froze. - Still, giant banger. Full of explosive energy and absolutely crazy cool tracks.

жиир

Absolutely electric. I think if I’d discovered this when I was younger I would have been absolutely obsessed, which does somewhat surprise me as I’ve always known of the prodigy and their songs but never dived much into them

Prodigy, what is not to love!

Fire classic.

As a massive fan of The Prodigy already I've listened to this album countless times back to back. Great pacing throughout, from fast-paced bangers like Breathe, Firestarter and Smack my Bitch Up to the slightly more relaxed Mindfields and Narayan. Easy 5 stars.

This album will get your heart pumping like the beats. Brilliant memories of when this first came out and living life.

имба.

Know this since ages. Love it to death

I didn't realize I would know so many of these songs. Nice to get another 90s electronica album after one last week too.

One of the best drum and bass albums and hasnt lost its shine

What a slapper. I remember bringing this to Amanda Sullivan’s 13th birthday pool party in 1997 and everyone loved it but Amanda’s dad was like what the fuck are you guys listening to lol

Really enjoyed this - some iconic tracks and good dance tunes in between.

Stirring stuff, I remember the day I purchased this.

Kæmpe banger album

Was great vibes

It's dark. It's light and airy at times. It makes me want to dance. Great party record. EDM isn't for everybody and it's certainly not my favorite type of music, but this one is just undeniable.

I enjoyed a lot this album

This album makes me feel like I'm living in the Matrix and I'm absolutely here for it. I'm LOVE drum & bass and this album is peak that.

Back in 1996... I was driving from Tampa to Atlanta... a song came on the radio... that song was NOT playing on any station in Tampa... and it was "Firestarter"... i had not heard anything like it... and even though it was not really my style or cup of tea... it sounded like a HIT to me... it was like punk rock... but it was Dance/Electronica too... as i predicted, to myself, The Prodigy, or just plain Prodigy to us Americans... burst on to the USA music scene and became MTV staples... i think they had a couple hits in their home UK before that song... "Breathe" was the next song i heard by them... and it was even better to my ear... and some young folks i was coaching tennis to at the time, had this album, and brought it over... they were flabbergasted i knew of the group and the record... but i had only heard two songs... they put the CD in, and the first song, "Smack My Bitch Up" came through my stereo speakers... and i KNEW these mofos were kings of their genre... it had the impact of a heavy metal or Led Zeppelin record... but also had the funky danceability of the best of the electronica genre... when something is original... and makes you shake that tail feather... it's always going to be ranked very highly... every track on it is strong... the three songs, i mentioned before are the best of them... i have to give this album... five stars... that may surprise some...

So original

Repeat listen

I thought this was gonna be crab rave at first because of the cover lol. Extremely fun album though and surprisingly diverse. Prodigy managed to cover electronic, dance, hip-hop, and rock in one album which genuinely was a nice suprise! The music even without lyrics had a lot of personality and just genuinely was fun to listen to all around. This album definitely deserves its spot the on the list. Favorite Tracks: Diesel Power, Mindfields, Narayan, and Breathe.

I remembered this as good not great Turns out every song is great not good Just fantastic Now let’s boot up Wipeout 2097

One of the best albums ever

Just wall to wall bangers with no breaks, how can you not just dance around like an idiot listening to this.

I ran twice my best previous distance (nearly 10k) listening to this. Absolutely electrifying. Go crab go!

I had forgotten how much I enjoy this album.
