READY TO KNOCK SOMEONES HEAD OFF AND RUN 10K BABY!!
Been a long time since I listened to this one. Held up well over the years. Start to finish great stuff.
This album just bangs man. It's impossible to not get hyped up while listening to it. I practically wore the CD of this OUT in high school.
Jamming. I like how exciting the electronic music is on this album, even if some of the songs are too long.
Fav songs: - Smack My Bitch Up - Breathe - Nayaran - Firestarter
90-tallet var syre!
Oh man one of my absolute favorites! These dudes are insane. Ridiculous live show. Blasting this in my '92 Corsica, windows down, nothing to worry about in the world. No other hard electronic band had the mainstream power like the Prodigy in those days. Their songs were rightly featured in some great films, and are still used to illustrate the frenetic action energy of a story.
I remember that broken nose every time.
Excellent album, soul affirming funky hip-hoppy metal rave. Hard, uncompromising, energetic, wonderful. Strong, British, full of a sort of anarchic liberty which is deeply satisfying. I remember hearing it for the first time as a child in the 90s and it absolutely blew me away. What a record
Probably the most well known Prodigy album. The Fat of The Land released in 1997 and even though I was pretty young at the time I still remember my compilation CD I had that had Breathe as one of the songs. That song and Smack my bitch up starts the album and I would say that they're modern classics that most people remember. The rest of the album also delivers tight beats, insane samplings and an intensity that's hard to match. The single Firestarter appears much later on the album and is easily as good as Breathe and Smack my bitch up. In my opinion The Prodigy didn't manage to create a follow up to this album until 2009 when they released Invaders Must Die.
Lively and upbeat. would recommend
If you don't like this album, the crabs will find you. To say "this music goes hard" would be an understatement, because I don't think anything has ever gone or will ever go "harder" than this. This is the hardest shit ever. Nintendo Ninja Turtles hard. Insert dick joke here.
Sick bruz
SICK AFFFF! Obsessed
Great album, unique sound
The lesson here is, whether you're making music or starting fires, be terrific at what you do. 5 terrific brachyuras out of 5 🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀
This was an instant classic, and it's the Prodigy at their best. I'm not a huge fan of the final track, "Fuel My Fire," but I don't hate it, either. Everything else is brilliant, especially "Mind Fields," "Narayan," and my personal favorite, "Diesel Power," (which features the underappreciated Kool Keith). Absolutely love this album.
The best album of its time & genre. I remember dancing to these songs at clubs, and it's my workout go-to. Running to this album is pure adrenaline. This album will always be a personal favorite.
Fuck yeah
listend 5 times in a row, and somehow it seemed to mellow a little more each time
<copy-paste> Wauw! Beste album blijft echter "Experience". *****
classic 90s album love it Firestarter and smack my bitch up are 90s bangers
Like nothing ive heard before
Fully bro
Love this album its so awesome
One of the very best electronica albums of all time.
Class
Wish I could have seen these guys. I love this album. Listened 50x
I absolutely love this album from start to finish. Back in the day, this was my first foray into electronica music.
all time banger. RIP Keith
Heavy, aggressive, artistic, textural, dance-able, consistent, varied. All at once, all the time, all the way through. Wow.
An absolute classic, fantastic energy and drive, catchy lyrics and beats and not a bad track on the album.
I fucking love big beat. This album is one of the best pioneers of that genre.
It's a classic. One of the defining records of the 90s.
Had this as a teenager. Totally forgot how awesome this album is!
Great album and Les really hits hard during this period.
All thriller, no filler. What a banger
Bit of a classic.
Smack My Bitch Up - 10/10 Breathe - 9/10 Diesel Power - 8/10 Funky Shit - 6/10 Serial Thrilla - 10/10 Mindfields - 7/10 Narayan - 9/10 Firestarter - 9/10 Climbatize - 10/10 Fuel My Fire - 5/10
I loved this album back in the late 90’s. It really hooked me on the electronica genre
What a start. RIP fellow park runner
A monster album with aggressive base and aggressive lyrics in the most part from Keith (RIP). Listen loud!
Controversial and infectious. Very 90's and hypnotic. This was around long before the Wokes were weeping into their Lattes and the Prodigy are a breathe of fresh air in turgid times. I need to play this every morning before I trudge to work to remind me there is life. 25 years on I struggle to think of anyone with as much energy nowadays. Glastonbury is full of comeback bands relying on past times and youngsters copying old masters. This is tremendous.
This album is great from start to finish. Such a listen
Tunes.
The Fat of The Land is a super high octane outing from Prodigy, in which you'd really expect no less. With the controversy of 'Smack my Bitch Up', it only saw to drive the popularity of the record itself and cement Prodigy as psych-electro gods. I know 'Breathe' is more about the pull that drugs can have, but it has been a part of my workout soundtrack for the better part of at least the last 20 years (which blows my mind!), and it always gets me to push further. Best: Breathe Worst: Narayan
One of them had his team win Isle if Man TT twice. Even Bob Dylan would get 5 stars if he had done that (but he didn't, he's just a fag). Anyways, Prodigy is cool
Perfection
The music and the album cover both go hard. Music gets better the louder it is
Outstanding. Great throwback to 20something years ago :)
1997 - Genre: Big Beat (Big beat is an electronic music genre that usually uses heavy breakbeats and synthesizer-generated loops and patterns – common to acid house/techno.)

Outstanding, still sounds fresh all these years later. An absolute belter of an album
Fuck yeah
Quintessential late 90s electro-rock dance music!
Partially just a nostalgic thing
Brilliant
While we nauseously headed towards the new millennia, The Prodigy settled the edge where the anxiety of what's next was conjoined with excitement and frustration and turned it into dance music.
The prodigy at their peak, a great album
Great album, never gets old
Amazing from start to finish.
I know this album from inside to out. It was a move towards the more hard edged sound that howlett wanted from the beginning. Getting away from the rave scene singalongs to using experimental cuts and beats. This album represents true creative freedom when not tied to shifting units.
This was the first album to make me realise dance music is great, as a nu-metal loving kid. Every track on this is still great. Best played loud in the car.
Seminal album from my Teenage years just disappointed to hear how much of the drumming was since. Should go look up if there any drum parts to these songs.
Loved it!
Troublesome track aside this was an album that soundtracked my younger wilder years and I love it
Epic!
noice
Classic tunes from beginning to end
Own it. Good stuff.
Banger from summer school.
Love itt
Fuck. Yes.
I know exactly where was when I listened to this. Loved it.
This is good but influenced a lot of bad imitations

Absolute banger. I bounced so hard this morning, I spilt my Earl Grey.
Legendary. The tracks released as singles, plus a few others, are the tentpoles holding the rest up. And they hold it all up high. But as a 7-8 track EP, with some of the ‘fat’ trimmed, it would have been perfect. Pretty close though.
Was not a fan of the guitar-heavy and shouty direction they took with this album and my favourite tracks are the ones that avoid this. But even then I still quite like it all, I just don't love it.
4 absolute bangers on this, therefore I must give it 3.5 rounded up to a 4, even though I'll never relisten beyond those 4 songs!
Erfitt að byrja plötu betur. Rúllar sjúklega vel í gegn öll saman. Set fjórar stjörnur þar sem hún er ekki öll sem heild eitthvað sem ég mun setja á en ég mun taka mörg lög af henni á playlista.
This is the second or third time I’ve heard this album and the first time it’s clicked for me. Of all the too-long English electronic records released in the ‘90s, this is the best.
Seminal, memorable, enjoyable. Can't really go wrong with this one, but I can't say it really gets me grooving (shocking I know), and it doesn't move me emotionally. Perhaps I underestimate what it truly brings in a live setting, even if that could apply to almost anything under specific circumstances... Likewise, it is in a way quite cinematic, but I do wonder if that is just cultural osmosis talking or if the songs themselves lend themselves to visions of myriad gritty and grimy scenes.
Man, this is a pretty damn good album
Great experience, be good music for driving or playing video games or something. Enjoyed this one
Cracking, classic 90s album here. Probably got all their best singles on it too. Enjoyed this coming up.
Back with another one of those block rocking beats!
One of my favorite bands. This album is a classic. Many bangers, especially "Smack My Bitch Up" and "Firestarter".
Really happy to see this one pop up after enjoying the previous album so much. Another really fun album with a lovely cover. I think I definitely preferred Music For a Gilted Generation, but this was still really great. Favourites: Breathe Funky Shit Firestarter
never heard of this before but really digging it. will be a great album to put on when I need to dig in and get a task done. fave tracks: funky shit, narayan, climbatize
Interesting one today. A bit long, but really good. I especially loved the heaviness of the drums here, it added a lot to the album as a larger experience. “Smack My Bitch Up” was a song I was already vaguely familiar with (we all know why), but the rest of the songs I was listening to for the first time. I can’t say I love the vocalist here, but his voice certainly fits the bombastic sound of the album. It’s at times aggressive, in-your-face, fast, and big. Pretty much every song is awesome, save for “Serial Thrilla” and “Mindfields,” neither of which I especially cared for. That being said it’s awesome, it’s iconic, and it has a lot of songs that are really worth listening to. 8.5/10
Relentless. Starts of with a banger and ends with one. Never really loses steam. Only downside is lyrically could be better. Great album to work out to.
Pretty good hard-pounding techno.
This sounds like soundtrack music from the 90’s and early 00’s. I like it, it’s main character music while I’m walking around today.
Kind of a 5, kind of a 4. It was the energetic album I needed to listen to while boarding a 6AM flight.
This album brought back so many memories. I've never listened to the whole thing before. So many great tracks. The overall sound really gets you going. Smack My Bitch Up, Breathe and Firestarter are the obvious tracks. Serial Thrilla and Fuel My Fire were also bangers.
Classic upon classic upon classic- "Smack," "Breathe," "Funky Shit," "Mindfields," "Firestarter." A very impactful album on my life- I remember discovering it in middle school and thinking how "underground" it was to listen to because it treaded into some edgy territory lyrically. The album still sounds so awesome and informed much of what happened in the years following in the dance music scene both across the pond and in the US alike.
It's a fairly one dimensional album but my word is it one funky dimension.
This an album that basically kicks the door open, throws a smoke bomb into the room, and starts blasting electronic chaos at full volume. This thing has energy from the jump, and it is absolutely one of those albums that feels wrong if you listen to it quietly. What makes it so fun is how many different sounds The Prodigy throws into the blender. It’s electronic, but it’s also got rock, hip-hop, punk attitude, and probably six other genres hiding in the walls somewhere. That being said, the formula does start to wear a little thin by the middle of the second half. The rhythms and structure can get repetitive, and after a while, some tracks start to feel like they’re running on the same engine with slightly different flashing lights. Even “Firestarter,” as iconic as it is, doesn’t feel quite as exciting on its own when surrounded by so much similarly explosive material. Thankfully, the album keeps introducing enough new sounds and textures to stop it from completely wearing out its welcome. Overall, The Fat of the Land is a banging, chaotic, highly caffeinated album that knows exactly what kind of monster it wants to be.
This is energizing and clever without crossing the line into inane. The lyrics and song names are scandalous or at least irreverent bordering on obscene which I’m certain is intentional. The take away is fun.

Favourite Songs: Breathe Firestarter
mid 90s
Every song had some pizzazz to it. Very close to a 5
What a banger of an album. Holds up.
Well... it's Prodigy. I'm not a huge fan of theirs, but it's hard to underestimate their contributions to the music industry.
Egentligen inte min bag, men helt genialt. Firestarter är en klassiker! Stark fyra.
Cool sound. Very high highs on this record. My closet to a five.
I'm listening to this and thinking...'damn but if this doesn't give Static-X vibes'. So I checked and yup, Static-X lists The Prodigy as influences. Noice.
As far as electronic goes - interesting and versatile
Give me this album, some neon fishnets and an ecstasy tablet and we got ourselves a good old fashioned rave. Honestly really liked the album. I don’t fully understand the genre but the energy is undeniable
This bring me right back to the 90s! These guys were the electronica group that you would hear on the alternative rock stations. They crossed the genre divide because they came hard!
This album still holds up 30 years later. The sound in unmistakable and unique. Love the energy and the vibe of this album.
Had always known the singles but enjoyed a lot of this album overall! Definitely worth listening to the whole album in full
My mum was a huge Prodigy fan and controversially influenced my older cousins into liking the prodigy (much to my uncle’s dismay). I was very aware of Breathe growing up but was more across their later albums (Invaders Must Die is so good). Anyway, I think this one of the great album covers, and the Expanded Edition which just adds in a bunch of extra crabs is even better. Breathe is menacing and intense and also thrilling (the music video with a large crocodile wandering through a house also scared me as a kid), and also some of the longer trancier tracks were also pretty cool. embarked on such a fun evening of listening to random 90s dance and rave tracks after this. I know it’s not really the general taste of this group but I do think everyone needs to listen to more dance music Mixed feelings about smack my bitch up because it does go hard and another one my mum loves to sing, but also they didn’t really need to say that
This is what you wanna hear at 7am in the morning. Now I have a headache but it’s worth it. I’m not a huge fan of their policy on smacking bitches up, but their pro-arson policy certainly has my vote.
10 songs Added to liked: -Breathe -Firestarter (Already there) P.S. The transition from Narayan to Firestarter slaps
I think the crab likes to batter women with his claw. I don't agree with the crab but I do find his music enjoyable.
So damn groovy and funky has some hip hop, Arabic, pop, rock elements. Crazy
The Prodigy is cool, but I get sick of it after a while. Stand-outs - Smack My Bitch Up - Breathe - Firestarter
Very familiar with the singles but had no idea how much this album rips as a whole. RYM: N Saved a song: N
good- electronic, super high energy, great for working out/warming up, also angsty and grungy, fun to be sassy to
8/10. Would hear at a really trashy houseparty or a montage for "Criminal Minds"
firestarteri önceden biliyordum ve bayılıyordum. genel anlamda aşırı derecede run lola run vibe'ı veren bi albüm, 90lar sonu 2000ler başı bu tarz fütüristik esintileri bulunan bpm'i fazla parçaları dinlemeye bayılıyorum. bazı parçalar albümdeki aşırı hoşuma gitmese de kulağımı bazen tırmalar gibi oldu, overall güzel. bi de bazı şarkılardaki beatlerin altyapıları da tekrara düşebiliyor
Fun album from the 90s. Brought back a ton of memories. I will listen to this again. 8.5/10 Top song Smack my bitch up
Classic electronic record. Showed how confrontational and aggressive electronic music could be instead of just dance/rave/party soundtracks.
Absolutely rad
this album is a blast. I was only really familiar with "Smack My Bitch Up" and was expecting the rest of this to be a sugar rush and nothing more. happy to report I was mistaken there. yes, it's designed for maximum pleasure, and there's plenty rush to be had, but there's more going on with these songs than just crowd pleasers. it's a great encapsulation of the electronic music trends happening during this period of the 90s -- breakbeats, mid-range hooks, in-yr-face vocals. the only track that felt overly dated and fell flat to me is "Breathe" -- the rest is fun, exhilarating, always pushing momentum forward. 4.5 for me.
Fun stuff.
🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀 Favourite track: Firestarter
In childhood, one way or another, Prodigy were everywhere and in everyone's collection — among fans of rap, electronic music, and rock alike. Classics, what more can I say?
I wonder if I didn't listen to the whole album because some songs were overplayed? Either way, I've been missing out, this was a pretty good album.
grandgary brainz
Some classics on here. The rest was alright, but just didn't hit quite as hard.
this is a perfect example of „don’t judge a book (or an album) by its cover” because i was so convinced i was gonna hate it. but instead i stumbled across an album which was very impressive in its rawness. i absolutely loved the production on these tracks, i think they were very nicely executed. this genre of music is almost completely new to me, as i usually reach for less „harsh”, you could say, music. i liked vast majority of the songs and „climbatize” was an out-of-body experience! my faves are „smack my bitch up”, „funky shit” and „serial thrilla”. i still haven’t decided on whether 3 or 4 is a better rating but given the fact that i didn’t think i was gonna like it and left the experience truly impressed, i’m gonna stick with a 4/5 for now

Siin peal suured hitid (nt "Firestarter", "Smack My Bitch Up", "Breathe"). 3.7/5
The fat of the album. Was good, strong bass, goodd for headbanging
Ok what was that but it was good
Hell yeah
Not exactly for me, but great infusion of Indian vocal textures. Definitely see the psychedelic rave touches and non-linear elements being sampled in songs (why would an aalap be in Smack my bitch up)
Don't think I'd listened to this in full before but it is a really good album. Not a huge fan of 90s electronic music usually but if you're in the mood not much beats this
I was never a fan of this growing up, but in a world of overprocessed digital music I've learned to like and even admire the rawness of this record. Plus a few of the tracks are by now absolute classics.
The Prodigy Fat of the Land - 4/5 - Excellent album that provides plenty of inspiration fusing the punk scene with underground electronic music, raw visceral energy of each track layered with superb production quality - matched with bombastic lyrical content, a benchmark for electronic music that was essential in delivering a cultural impact within the rave era and the mainstream, Liam Howlett offers an amazing use of samples as an artform - Especially within the albums singles, Firestarter, Breathe & Smack my B*tch up Verdict: 79-80/100. Absolute revolutionary piece that is deemed a masterpiece by many. I enjoy the edginess of the album as a whole as well as learning the story behind each detail, the samples stand out as a staple as well. I also wanted to add that Kool Keith absolutely elevates diesel power with his feature as well. An amazing project that I look forward to owning in my collection Favourite Songs: Smack My B*tch Up Breathe Diesel Power Narayan Firestarter
Good grief, did I really use to dance to these tunes back in the day? I must have been off my face. That's right, I was! Haven't heard it since then, so actually enjoyed hearing it again, though not an album I could listen to constantly.
8/10
Catchy hooks, thoughtful turns of phrase, iconoclastic. It’s not my type of thing but it’s good, I’ve known it more as meme or parody.
This is such a fun nostalgic sound! Reminds me of ssx tricky ! There's something fun about th drums and the sampled sounds !
pretty good electronic
A good album very different style from most other music but some good songs and not a boring album
Favorite track(s): Smack My Bitch Up, Breathe, Funky Shit, Firestarter, Fuel My Fire
the mezzanine beetle and fat of the land crab link up holy bangers highlights: smack my bitch up, breathe, diesel power 4/5
Hell yeah. So fun. Everything sounds awesome. Made me feel like Neo from The Matrix. 3.5

LET'S FUCKING (the 1995 cult classic united artists film hackers starring jonny lee miller angelina jolie matthew lillard fisher stevens and its accompanying soundtrack {+ a healthy dose of the 2001 cult classic introversion software game uplink} irreparably damaged my brain as a child; along with the other things) GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO 🥳👁️ liam howlett's a genius. underrated sampler and quite possibly the only man to make big beat seem like something meant to happen instead of EDM "fetch" circa 1998 (fuck you moby {fatboy/the chemical brothers/"big transgender fan" hideki naganuma occasionally get a shout at it}). we already s/o keith moon but let's shoutout another keith (RIP). and the other keith (the kool one). narayan earns every second of those 9 minutes. L7 cover is peak. 3.6-4.5. i'm willing to argue jilted generation's better (+ underworld does cooler things with the rock vocalist rave tunes concept). "coincidentally" both of these things are on the hackers soundtrack. also serial thriller is lowk a young gods song. that's all.
lfg ama ima mn mid pesni obache ima mn bangeri
I liked this more than I thought I would; it's a massive step up in quality from "Jilted". A strong four.
This is a good album, but maybe it's not as exciting as I remember it. It is really fun and The Prodigy have such a distinctive sound, of course - but it can get a bit samey :/
Good times staying up late to watch the uncensored version of the Smack My Bitch Up video on MTV! Of course you have the three big tracks on this album and the rest is pretty solid for what it is. I am between 3 and 4...rounding up for nostalgia. 3.5/5
I throughly enjoyed this album from The Prodigy. What can I say this album freaking rocks and it gets better and better everytime I listen to it. Such a strong electronic album with banger after banger track! This is an album I will definitely be jamming out to again soon.
This is very near a 5 though I feel the runtime makes it more of a stretch to get into. Nonetheless, The Fat Of The Land is a disc I should get my hands on. While not perfect all the way through, the stuff I like is cool to discover. The stuff I love, I have loved for years. Smack My Bitch Up is one of the best songs of the 90s straight up. I'm just not feeling that 5 tinge on this. The reason I felt it for Bonnie Prince was because that entire album consistently made me isolated and bony. This one gives its thesis and runs with it until a certain point where I'm like "OK, I get the message". But I do appreciate the vibe it gives off. Some epic skateboard moves must've been done to Firestarter. Rocket Power level shit, the funky shit. Nonetheless, all well regards on production and performance (8/10, 4/5 on this scale)
I like this, very original and great for work
One of their best albums, a few great tracks and the rest are OK, but still gets 4 stars from me.
Great album. A few timeless tracks.
one of the raddest albums ever
I appreciate the dumb, brash energy of this album. I miss this era of electronic music.
Liked IT.
This one was as awesome as I remember. Title aside, the opening track Smack My Bitch Up, hits you in the face and it just carries from there. I’ll come back with a better review later
Heart said 5 Reason said 4
There’s something to listening to this on the bleak English public transport that makes it feel like a soundtrack. Some seminal tracks here, I loved Narayan which was new to me. Hard to find many faults other than you could say it’s a bit repetitive but that’s just electronic music in general.
3.5
Great energy! Really helps with those cleaning tasks. The Prodigy always strike me as a live band but works just as well on record.
Real good! Never played it all before was surprised at how much I liked it. Bet its a great album to hear live! So many bangers! Will be purchasing the record.
For raves, for motivation or for kicking someine's head in: top tier. Its a 'Get some bollox about you' album. I wouldnt advise driving to it. Youd veer four lanes and end up in someones privet hedge. Eggs would also end up shot putted across the living room.
Love this album. Got some great songs on it Really helped me with my bike ride gave me that energy made me feel good
Blows your mind drastically, fantastically
Ready for a workout
I think I actually like this more today than I would have in 1997, thanks to my expanded affection for electronic dance music but also my deepening soft spot for (certain) sounds and vibes from this decade. I like the high-energy mix of techno rhythm beds and noises with hip hop and snarling punk. Sure, the thematic/lyrical content is perhaps dated (“Smack My Bitch Up,” “Funky Shit”), but it’s hardly the point and doesn’t take itself too seriously at any rate. It’s a fun set of block-rockin’ beats and a time capsule I can easily lose myself in.
Mmmm love The Prodigy, great album.
Definitely preferred the more industrial tone of Music for the Jilted Generation, but this was a great album that I thoroughly jammed out to.
Songs range from good to great without a miss
This takes me back to my early 20’s. This was an album that always went well with a workout. May need to try that again.
Rigtig rigtig fedt.
stadig fedt
Quite good, first half of the album was the most enjoyable. It got a little stale for me by the end but I'll definitely be listening to this one again. I'd give it about 75-80/100
awesome
Unlike other EDM on this list that the algorithm has graced me with, it's hard to imagine this one ever feeling dated. Raw, primal, totemic, it defined a generation. 4 - a great album, even among this list
Divertido
An incendiary listen that sounds just as ahead of its time now as it must have in 1997. There's never a dull moment on here, with Maxim and Keith Flint sounding perfect over top of Liam Howlett's acid breakdowns and breakbeat instrumentation. An essential album of the 90s.
Firestarter - the song that started it all.
British meathead shit. Gotta give it up.
A plane of existence that's very fun to ride out for the runtime. Great time
Less than 2 weeks after I revisited Music for the Jilted Generation, here I am revisiting this one. What a step-up, honestly. More immediate, more conscious of its runtime and what to do with it (a median 5-minute runtime for most of the songs, which are also far more energetic and rattling in my opinion) and more outwardly aggressive. The kind of music you run into brick walls to. All of the controversy surrounding "Smack My Bitch Up" be damned, it's a stone-cold classic and easily my favorite song here; impossible to separate from its incredible music video as well. Sometimes provocation is the key is a hit.
Nostalgia
Very fun beats/house with a few classics
damn breath is actually so fire and diesel power ok i don’t feel like listening anymore but ptetty good
i remember enjoying the videos at the time of this album's release. the album stands up as a decent punky-dancey electronic album. it's a little same-y sounding, but not completely. the non-single stuff i had never heard before was usually the more interesting stuff. "narayan" is particularly good, if not a touch long
Electronic music to game/party/b@ng to. Has some edge to it which I really like.
If it was the 90s & I’d heard this for the first time I’d think t was the coolest thing EVA
Holds up.
7/10 I can see what they were going for but it didn't leave much of an impression for me. It's electronic, it's dancey, but it's also kind of repetitive.
Look, you add a breakbeat to anything and it makes it sound instantly better, it’s just the rules. Just such an awesome album, exactly what I love from the 90’s. We didn’t need that misogyny tho.
I have somehow avoided listening to Prodigy albums until now, even though I’ve pretty much enjoyed all the songs I know by them, a curious omission to my listening history, which is also curious since I like similar acts. The big singles were unavoidable at the time, and I still remember channel 4 debuting the video to Smack My Bitch Up late one Friday night. I enjoyed the album which holds much of the same energy that the singles provide, but the best track on the album was its penultimate, Climbatize, which really ought to be the closer and is my main criticism for the album. That track could also be 3-4 minutes longer, which is saying something when it clocks in over 6 mins but I’d have happily listened for 10.
Breathe
never really knew this group but 2-4 songs from this specific album are on the charlie’s angels soundtrack. liked this one a lot, it’s not an album on the wall but it’s a no skip. really good focus music
Crab Rave This must be the inspiration for game soundtracks for years to come. It's a fun listen. 4 stars.
It was better when Keith wasn't singing. There I've said it and you can't make me take it back. It feels mean to give this only 3 stars as it has 3 iconic tracks but the rest of it is average at best. Oh f*ck it, it can have 4 stars, I'm feeling generous
this was honestly so epic.
I am a bit biased. I was born in 1981 and The Prodigy was very much part of the soundtrack of my formative years. I hadn’t listened to the album as a whole in ages and it was a blast to hear it again. I was going to give the album five stars, but on an honest relistening, soms songs felt like fillers and some tunes got repetitive. Still, take me back to a nineties party and I will dance to The Prodigy all night
Was never a fan of this band when they hit the US in my college years, but now I kind of dig it. Seems like jock jams for the thinking person.
7/10 – Good
It was definitely Prodigy
Oh this was surprisingly fun! Not sure about the lyrics to the first song, but each track was something I could see myself jamming out to in the gym or at the club or while crushing tasks at work. 8/10
- tän levyn kovimmat biisit on niin isoja järkäleitä että ihan sama vaikka muut raidat olis vaikka pieruääniä, tää albumi ansaitsee vähintään nelosen - mää rakastan prodigyä
High energy. Love the party crab on the album cover. Not my vibe, but I can appreciate it. Narayan was a bit too long for my rubbish attention span so I did skip the last 2 minutes. Might actually be good focus music for when I need to buckle down and do a task, will keep it in mind.
What a pleasant surprise getting this album!! It is very dear to me as it reminds me of a mundane but nice memory of my childhood. When I was little I remember my dad would work out in the basement and he would blast The Prodigy music including this album and it was his favorite. I would hear the music upstairs and jump around to it in my room. So this album not only holds bangers but it holds a warm spot in my heart as I’ll always associate The Prodigy to my dad. Also I fucking love the album cover so much. Would give 5 stars but giving 4 because I have to be in a specific mood to enjoy this type of music.
3,5 Highlights: Breathe, Firestarter
Indeed the funky shit is pretty funky
New Forms Roni Size
Absolute vibing bangers
ok i confess. i was only familiar with Smack My Bitch Up and Firestarter. but listen, those are classics ok? i honestly was expecting to love this more than i did. i still really like it, but the energy of earlier work has been sanded down to become more rock-like in sound and appeal. i'm glad some dance music that's actually fun is respected here, though. that's a real relief. deserves to be one of the 1001? yes! and add in Experience too. it's a really important moment in the development in rave music, significant because it's a *great* album in a genre that doesn't really care about the format. and it's probably the album i dance the hardest to when listening.
Tough to score this. It's not really my kind of music, but it was good paired with a gym session. Probably worth a 4 in that context, but I can't see me listening to it again in any other context. I'll go with a 3.5 rounded up.
Sounds like a ps2 racing game sound track. Songs sound pretty similar to each other.
Brum brum. Menudo clásico
Nice
Rounding up a little here because: (1) almost every song has a very cool 30 seconds or so, before in most cases taking too long to wrap up, and (2) the L7 cover is excellent.
Mye bra her! Svak for 90-talls breakbeats.
Great beats, this is a decent album. 3.5 stars
I hardly ever listen to this type of music but damn, I was jamming hard to this one. Great fucking vibe. Took me back to the 90's.
A one-note album, but it hits that note very well. Electronic music (I'm not going to guess the subgenre because frankly, I don't really care) that goes hard with booming beats, addictive rhythms and nonsense lyrics, never taking it's foot off the gas. It is pure catharsis: simple, stupid and fun. Make sure your subwoofer is in good condition and enjoy.
Nostalgic beats. So 2000s
This album slays! Slaps hard, but hard and fun too. It is difficult to define the prodigy sound because they blend so many different beats and textures that aren't used by most bands I can conceive of. In fact, I can't think one. They are their own animal. There is a fierceness and that deep bass groove that hammers and drives on tracks like Firestarter, Breathe, and Diesel Power. Other songs like Climbatize and Narayan have more expansive sonic pans and atmospherics. But in with the slamming bump and growl, there are also seemingly incongruent sounds that they somehow make work. They're almost jazz accents. If jazz were bombing the dancefloor.
Lovely stuff, if you’re raving.
Slaps. Two incredible bangers to start. Jams
This has held up a lot better than I expected, especially for a genre that didn’t necessarily lend itself that well to albums.
Coming back to The Fat of the Land after a long time, it still sounds undeniably powerful. Tracks like “Smack My Bitch Up,” “Breathe,” and “Firestarter” haven’t lost any of their impact. It’s electronic music with a punk attitude, and that raw energy is exactly why it still feels so cool.
the album starts and ends in an aggresive and violent tone but in the middle it tones down (just a little), gets a little more repetitive. i kinda wish it kept the super high energy throughout the whole album. the lyrics are whatever. nevertheless, the album is great, it's iconic. definitely not an album (or the band in general) that you just sit and listen to, you have to experience it, whether in a party, rave or a live show (which i did and it was amazing!)
This might be the single greatest work out album I've heard (tied with The Second Toughest in the Infants for favorite running album. Smack My Bitch Up and Breathe and both outstanding. I don't much care for the Diesel Power (not a huge Kool Keith fan these days) or Funky Shit. But when I'm running it's all good. 5 for exercising and 3 for casual headphone listening. 4/5
Honestly this was a refreshing album to get, far away from the usual dad rock or British punk on here. An iconic electronic sound of the 90s and early 00s, the tracks here were more recognizable than one would assume at first glance. Overall a fun listen
Strong start to this album with some incredible bangers. The second half is hit and miss, but held aloft by the hit track Firestarter. This is definitely an album worthy of this list, with a handful of impressive and famous tracks, as well as its iconic album art.
I wouldn't have expected to be into an album of this type of energetic electronic music. I know basically nothing of the context for this genre but this is great. Very fun, varied, heavy, punchy and high-energy. This is one of those albums that I probably would have never listened to had it not been for having embarked on this journey as I've never really thought to listen to this kind o music. Amazing production, which I assume is to be expected from electronica. 4/5 P.S.: like with many other people in this page, my very first thought when I first saw the cover of the album was the crab rave video. This cover picture is honestly amazing.
Started strong, fell off a bit after the first two songs but the pace picked back up at Firestarter. Overall an enjoyable listen.
Highlights - All of the below go very hard Breathe Funky Shit Serial Thrilla Firestarter The first song is obviously dodgy and I question it's reason to exist because it sounds like a beta of Firestarter. But the rest of the album is fine and the beats are infectious. I kinda love and hate his voice. It's super iconic, aggressive and powerful but also grating over the course of an entire album. I think I'd have liked this album more if: - I enjoyed his voice more/there was less of it - the album had less misogyny - it was a touch shorter Very low 4
Jaa lekkeeerrr
The Fat of the Lamb,
A very fun and energizing listen for another freezing cold morning. This electronica album has the vocal and rock elements that make the genre enjoyable to me. The band’s three biggest hits are on here (‘Breathe’ is easily the best one) and the other songs are mostly all good as well. There’s a couple songs on the back half that create a bit of a lull, otherwise this would have been in contention for a coveted 5; all that said, this is a strong 4/5. Other electronic/dance albums are going to have a hard time beating this one in my ears.
I've been listening to one song on this album for about 2 years now on my workout playlist. It's gotten me through some really hard workouts. Very good album.
Saw them in 1997 when this came out, amazing live band back in the day. Still holds up nearly 30 years later.
Any day of the week
Yeah, banger Fave track: Smack my Bitch Up
🦀🦀🦀🦀 / 🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀 4/5
Fantastic. Techno madness.
8 / 10
Yooo
15 seconds in, this is so my shit. I think you have to be in the right mood to enjoy this wall of sound. Fortunately, I'm in that mood most days.
Goes hard. Kinda like eurobeat but rap coded. 4/5
Still a propulsive and exciting album. Doesn’t quite sustain the quality across all the tracks but when it works, it works incredibly well!
Solid.
Maybe it's nostalgia, but this album is a jam. A lot of catchy beats and some big hits with "Breathe" and "Firestarter". Normally this kind of music isn't my thing, but it was fun and upbeat. 4/5
Some classic great tracks, fire starter is epic, smack my bitch up goes hard in th paint. Great for when you need some extra energy
Fav electronica album on the list so far, makes me wanna rollerblade real fast. Feeling generous today 3.6 stars
This is great hype music. Falls apart a bit on closer inspection but who cares!
Haven’t listened to this before, I started this project to widen my taste in music and this is what I was looking for, because I wouldn’t have stumbled upon it otherwise.
whole album reminded me of the move Thirteen (2003)
Amazing music. How did I not here about The Prodigy before?
Great vibe, an album with 3 massive tracks from my highchool life. Lots of fun, memorable and awesome production
Keith Flint died during my master’s year. The lecturer came to university the next day dressed as Keith Flint from the Firestarter video, complete with some hairpiece that resembled Keith’s devil horns. We were doing our best to stifle laughing at this man’s peculiar way of mourning since we could tell the death had a profound effect on him but fucking hell was that a tough 50 minutes. Anyway, 5 stars in a grotty UK nightclub, 4 stars elsewhere.
If I had been older when this first came out, I would have ate this up.
Digger det her, masse bangers. Shoutout til den beste konserten på UKA-15
Rule of Cool
Noise, but in a good way. Like something I'd hear in Jet Set Radio. I liked Mindfields and Fuel My Fire
One of the most terrifying albums ever to reach no. 1
Didn’t expect this to go down so well with two kids under 3 on St Stephen’s Day, but they loved it
This record bangs. Almost every record here slaps, and slaps hard. Favourite Track(s): Smack My Bitch Up, Breathe, Firestarter Least Favourite Track(s): Serial Thrilla, Minefields
Homogenes Konzept, its a crab, bedauerlicherweise kein individuelles herausstechendes Stück.
Absolute banger from 1997, powerful, unsubtle, dance meets punk/metal crossover. Their biggest seller - Keith flint made a huge difference. Has Dance music ever been so mainstream since…..?
