Reviews (page 10 of 13)

Well now.... What to say. Before getting into Creedence, a quick appreciation of the two albums that preceded it in my 1001 album list - 'Led Zeppelin II' and the Beastie Boys’ 'Ill Communication' – which, for some reason, I was unable to write reviews for on this platform. Both brilliant albums that have been formative to me at certain points in my life, so maybe it's better I don't review them and simply wax lyrical about their genius. I was able to give them both star ratings though, in any case - 4 for each. Mainly because Led Zep have one album I prefer beyond 'Led Zeppelin II' and Beastie Boys...well, I don't know?! Why not 5 stars?! I think I probably would revise that rating now, in hindsight. But maybe it’s because deep down I think ‘Hello Nasty’ is a better album. I’m still not sure if that’s true. Subconsciously it must be. But anyway, Creedence Clearwater. A band whose music it’s impossible not to associate with iconic films. In the case of ‘Cosmo’s Factory’, it’s ‘Lookin’ Out My Backdoor’, which instantly conjures up images of The Dude setting fire to his crouch in ‘The Big Lebowski’. Simply put, this is a loveable album. What makes ‘Cosmo’s Factory’ so enduring is the fact that it’s essentially an album of rock and roll standards, blues riffs and rockabilly covers, and yet there’s a pop signature to it that makes every song a joy to listen to. Even their ‘Heard it Through the Grapevine’ cover, which at 11 minutes long should be insufferable, somehow passes by in a sort of ephemeral doobie-smoke haze. Understandably, it wasn’t Creedence’s intentions to make an endless string of songs that were so goddam catchy. They pushed back against this image regularly. But perhaps a quote in the Wikipedia entry for ‘Cosmo’s Factory’ summarises this one best: "While San Francisco longhairs across the bridge scoffed at their commercialism, Creedence henceforth made a point of releasing double A-sides. And invariably both songs would have an uncanny knack of cutting through to all sections of the population." Perhaps it’s the combination of catchy riffs with John Fogerty’s unmistakable voice that cuts through songs with a sort of Manson family menace, but ‘Cosmo’s Factory’ remains an album you can turn to, randomly select a song from and always have your spirits lifted by. How many of their longhair contemporaries from ‘across the bridge’ can say that?!

Top down!

pretty good I liked the blues, not the country very much tho I’d give it a 7/10, maybe worth another listen

Leuk Rock 'n roll album

Another great CCR swamp rock album. Too bad fogerty couldn't do it on his own.

first 5 seconds great and then the rest too Good to run too Like a greatest hits

Excellent from start to finish. I love the long breaks and solos, particularly in "I heard it through the grapevine" and the first song "Ramble Tamble". Great lyrics in that one too. Great mix of CCR and tunes and covers

Right in my wheelhouse. Lot of distinct genres if you listen closely, which I definitely didn't do well enough on first listen, so this quickly shot up in score when I returned to it Already Saved: Up Around The Bend Saved After Listening: Ramble Tamble, Travelin' Band, Lookin' Out My Back Door*, I Heard It Through The Grapevine

Saved Prior: None Off Rip: Ramble Tamble, Travelin' Band, Ooby Dooby, Loookin' Out My Back Door, Who'll Stop The Rain, I Heard It Through The Grapevine Cutting Edge: None Overall Notes: Something for every kind of rock fan on this one, almost gave it a 5. I see the vision with these guys now.

Great easy listening rock, impossible not to like

If its good enough for the dude, its good enough for me. Ramble Tamble is an amazing opener as well.

Pretty good album

ccr again I guess

I Heard It Through the Grapevine

Lookin’ Out My Back Door – приятный, внятный, запоминающийся трек. Up Around the Bend

I knew all the famous ones off this album and they are all classics. The opener Ramble Tamble was the best of the ones I was unfamiliar with. Sets up the whole album. Loved it.

Rockin’ Good!

why is this vietnam bush speaking weird language??

Pretty good, we enjoyed it

For me this is Creedence's last great album, and boy do they go out with a bang. My favourite song on the album is Ramble Tamble, which I think was unlucky to not get the recognition as much as songs like Baba O'Riley, as it really is an epic album opener, very ahead of its time. Overall, this is a very fun album which I enjoyed very much, Fogherty's guitar is solid and sometimes spectacular. This album is full of charisma and holds defining CCR numbers as well as their more varied pieces, GREAT!

Another classic CCR album.

Pretty chill ngl I have heard some of those songs but didnt have a band to match them to

Great CCR album. A bit 12-bar heavy, but there are some classic hits.

John Fogerty has a voice that was born for rock n roll.

bluesy fun stuff prob would give it a 3.5 i’m gonna round to 4 tho bc it’s better than a 3

A decent album with some amount of variation in the different types of music.

Oright

Damn, I did not expect this one to be this good. Knew almost every song and enjoyed every one. Great blues, even if a little self indulgent at times. You go CCR!

Wry hood

Foot stompers.

Excellent!

Superb - I heard it through the grapevine is particularly good.

Classic rock n roll album full of southern style tunes. Almost all CCR’s hits are on this album and the others are still very enjoyable. 4 Stars!

Ramble Tamble! My favorite all time CCR song - a big psychedelic journey that's always stood out from their swampy catalogue. That plus an 11 minute Grapevine make this their best album for me. Who'll Stop the Rain reminds me of rain delays at Rainiers games, even though I think it's about politics. Fogerty and baseball are forever bound (put me in coach!). Some of the 50s ooby dooby business is an instant skip, but otherwise a near perfect album. A-

Interesting thing about this album, the only thing that matches the music being created by their contemporaries it at the time is the breakdown on “Ramble Tamble.” This album is weird because it sounds and feels like it is from the previous generation—roots music and R&B of the 50s and 60s. Should their countrifying of R&B standards lose any credit? Maybe, except for fogarty’s voice the songs aren’t doing anything revolutionary. However, the instant classics on this album like, “lookin’ out my back door” “run through the jungle” “up around the band” “who’ll stop the rain” and “as long as I can see the light” are undeniable, they are so good, that even though they sound like they should’ve been made 5 yrs earlier, they’re still monumental, timeless even. It’s the soundtrack to any late 60s early 70s and any Vietnam period piece. Now the question is: is the music soo evocative of the late 60s that it begs to be the soundtrack? Or is it that their use in film soundtracks has created the trope which made them the soundtrack for the late 60s. From my POV I can’t say. But it almost feels like the songs are simply that evocative. I’d cut the covers. A, 4.

I'm curious if Ashton's new whitewater employer has a minimum listening requirement of this album. "Ashton! How can you expect to paddle around the bend without getting in 10 'Up Around the Bend's in before 7am!". You must ponder perpetual motion to unlock that crystal day. They may be Berkeley boys cosplaying as southern swamp rats, but IDGAF, it's toe tappin' good tunes. Dip a paddle for me, Ashton.

I never owned any CCR but liked them. This album is mighty fine Bayou sound

Wow, what a unit! These guys really know how to build a song, mastering their compositions to bring everything together in perfect harmony. It may seem like simple rock on the surface, but the way these songs are played blows me away. Only hangups is that it loses some steam on Side B and singer Fogerty is not a favorite of mine. For a tight, all-around superb Swamp Rock record, this is your go-to.

Awesome album, so many good songs. Voice is epic

The first song was 4 minutes too long, and then it turned into a new song and that was cool. My favorite track Grapevine is about 8 minutes too long But still it's a 10/11 for me so far, if this song would just end then I can get to the last track. OMG 2:30 to go I am so tired of this noodling AMG seems to agree with me about grapevine: Unlike some extended instrumentals, this was dramatic and had a direction -- a distinction made clear by the meandering jam that brings CCR's version of "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" to 11 minutes. Ok maybe not agree, but it was too long Long as I see the light, is a great ending song. It sounds exactly what the last song of the night should sound like.

An unmistakably american sound from an era where Brit bands ruled. John Fogerty had the perfect voice for his rootsy music & he was a hit machine (5 on this album). I like the occasional changes in tempo, like in the lead off track. A nice version of Grape Vine but it didn't need to be 11 minutes.

Biggest sleeper genre for me - Swamp rock. I just love something about this sound and I literally cannot place it.

“Cosmo’s Factory” by Creedence Clearwater Revival (1970) Boomers’ delight. With lyrics from the hallucinatorily loopy (“Lookin’ Out My Back Door”) to the profound (“Who’ll Stop the Rain?”), CCR provides a colorful collage of intelligent entertainment. John Fogerty’s talents on lead vocal, lead guitar, harmonica, and even saxophone are on full display. This band is not afraid to include extended jams and tempo variations, lifting their arrangements above the standard top 40 dance along ho-hums. The Fogerty’s brothers’ duets on the choruses of “Up Around the Bend” and “Who’ll Stop the Rain?” are another fine example of ‘sibling blend’ that provides choral vocal cohesion. This is music that endeavors to make your head bob along, nearly always with success. Chord structures and lead licks are simple enough to inspire teenagers to play along, and we did. Virtuoso cowbell performance on “I Heard It Through the Grapevine” by Doug Clifford. Just kidding. (Actually, I’m not. Listen to the whole thing). This album takes you back, or (if you’re younger) gives you a good introduction to what it was all about as the 60s came to close. 4/5

It's very nice to listen some great classic like this.

Really really good tunes on this album.

That song did not need to be 11 minutes

Good album—reminded me of Uncle Tim.

I was never a fan of CCR or hillybilly music so I went into this with some trepidation. However, I was pleasantly surprised, Ramble Tamble had a nice jangly geetar and I was surprised at the number of classic hits I recognized - Looking out my back door, Who'll stop the rain and Up around the bend, but my favourite was the groovy vintage 10 speed with chrome forks and clip on pedals on the cover. If there were half stars I'd give it 3.5, but I'll round it up for its historical significance

Why is “I Heard It Through The Grapevine” 11 mins long?

Lots of favorites from my teens! I was 12 when this was released

cool one, straigth up full of hits

Really fun! Almost every song was great but the duds...oof. There were a couple rough ones for sure.

I wasn’t really looking forward to this one. My tolerance for Fogerty’s voice has about a three song limit, and I’ve heard the hits a million times. But holy shit “Ramble Tamble”! That’s a bold way to start a record and I loved it. More of that, please. Also, I had no clue that the unedited version of “Grapevine” was 47 minutes long. It’s a bit much.

I like an album that jumps through a bunch of genres - classic rock and roll, psychedelia, country, folk rock - good fun! Fave track - "Lookin' Out My Back Door", for the Lebowski connection, heh, which also probably pushes the whole album up to 4 stars. But that's just, like, my opinion, man.

Pretty chill album, easy listening Favourite song: I heard It Through The Grapevine

Creedunce Shitwater

Amazing. Probably my favorite CCR album. 9/10 1. I Heard it Through the Grapevine 2. Who'll Stop the Rain 3. Long as I Can See the Light

Fun album with a lot of great songs. And some Jam Band stuff too. Very pleasing.

terrific album

It’s ccr probably my favorite album from them

I love creedence

Great vocals, cool jams

This just has that classic album sound. It's almost impossible to go about your life without hearing a Creedence Clearwater Revival song given how synonymous their music has been associated with the 60s and 70s American Dream and general zeitgeist of the time but I don't think I'd heard a song from this album before. Despite that, it all felt nostalgic and familiar. Perhaps this is the strongest quality to CCR's music. Cosmo's Factory has a classic American sound. Songs like Lookin' Out My Back Door has a distinctly southern country sound while also keeping that typical rock and roll aggression of the era. Another thing I really appreciate about rock albums are their ability to sound introspective. It's easier to make an album of bops but managing to work in a few slow jams that fit in the context of the track listing is an accomplishment in and of itself. Long As I Can See The Light is a sexy ballad that shows off the soft side of Cosmo's Factory. Yes, it is difficult to differentiate some of these songs but it's important to remember this is an album from an era gone by where music was intended to be heard as a project rather than as individual singles. A closing note on the album; The quality of this album is really illustrated by how seminal it sounds. The melodies and grooves of CCR sound very familiar and that's because they've influenced so many more modern musicians across many genres. That's hugely impressive.

My rational stats brain tells me that if anything it's a sign of actual randomness (or at least pretty good pseudo-randomness), but this run of Credence strikes me odd because none of us are truly rational deep down. This is another good 'un, anyway.

Timeless, excellent tunes.

Could've done with another 20 minutes of Heard it through the grapevine, what a jam

Just a fantastic album

Epic! I Heard It Through the Grapevine is one of the best songs ever created.

Lots of classic songs. Mix of soul and western. Vocals are cool, have swagger and super distinct. Not a lot of diversity.

I really liked the style

I love Frank. I love Jobim. I love Bossa Nova. I love 60s orchestral arrangements. Sign me up

This album contains some of CCRs greatest hits. The album starts off strong with Ramble Tamble, which has a green grass and high tide guitar sound. The album does not tie the songs together. I can't seem to detect a theme to the album. I really liked this album.

Better than I anticipated. I didn't think I would enjoy it as much as I did, although a few songs were way too long.

I had a great time listening to this album. CCR's energetic, blues-heavy brand of rock is on full display throughout these 11 tracks, all of which are well-crafted and worth a listen. Some of the band's biggest hits, like 'Up Around the Bend', 'Lookin' Out My Back Door', and 'Who'll Stop The Rain' are all here, but even deeper tracks like 'Ooby Dooby' or 'My Baby Left Me' are delights to listen to. One of the biggest stand-outs here is John Fogerty's voice - he can really belt these tracks out, and the slightly gravel-y quality to his tone adds so much to the overall impact of the songs. Great album.

Classic, good, nice.

It's weird reviewing this album directly after the Black Crows album, because they are both white-boy blues albums. This, however, feels much more authentic. CCR seem much more like they are playing their version of the blues rather than doing an impression of the blues. This album starts out really strong with some songs that I wasn't familiar with, and then proceeds to get into a string of songs released as singles that I really enjoy, like Lookin' Out My Back Door, Run Though the Jungle, Up Around The Bend, and Who'll Stop The Rain. Honestly, the cover art may be the worst thing about this album. What in the hell were they thinking? 4/5

Lookin out my Backdoor - sehr bekannt, wusste bisher nicht von wem es Ist. Up around the Bend - auch von denen??? Whaaat?

Loved it, great stuff, keeping 5s for really amazing stuff

Excellent - added to the must buy list.

Very bleak and a hard listen. I appreciate the influence had on many of the bands I dig like Nirvana. An early indie inception of NIN. Lacks the teeth of it industrial baby. Isolation stands out.

Amazing music and a good selection of tracks, sadly no song stuck out to me that much but still an amazing record

Great album

You can smell the bourbon dripping off this. boogie woogie blues that’ll put a smile on your Face.

I love this band so much

A classic! Glad I got to discover more than just the hits here. I understand why my dad loved them so much.

There are things about the songs on this album that I can appreciate: the jangly guitar in Ramble Tamble, the way Before you Accuse Me sounds like the perfect soundtrack for a movie scene in a late night diner… etc. but overall, this does not at all sound like a cohesive album; it’s hard for me to imagine this is the same band from song-to-song; it just all sounds so disjointed to me.

The album's opening hints at an intention to take the folk sound down the progressive path that other contemporaries in adjacent genres were following, but from there that idea is abandoned and blues standards and folk progressions are explored; these are the language that the band knows in depth and uses to convey a message in which complexity is conspicuous by its absence and which aims to sound untouched by the passage of time.

Limp grapevine cover secured them a 3 instead of 4

I think all the 5 star reviews come from a certain demographic, you know who you are. It’s just not that good, love the vocals and one or two stand out tracks, but overall, it’s just average

This type of music is absolutely not for me but I do get it. Some of the songs are really great and it doesn't overstay. Easy 4 if I was 30 years older.

(3.5) proper American rock

I generally like it, but nothing grips me fully. The guitar sounds are nice and crips, even surprisingly modern at times but in a good way. I guess that's what a lot of indie and modern blues bands are emulating. The vocals sound angry, no other way to describe it. I just don't like the drum and the bass sound, I think the shallowness takes away from the great performance by the drummer and the bassist.

I'm just like the dude now. Really good, great performances and a really fun listen. On a different day could have been a 4 but yesterday it was a 3.5

I’ve always liked this album cover, but I prefer other albums by Creedence Clearwater Revival.

Decent record, maybe a bit too old school for me. I heard it through the grape vine is a banger though. 3 stars for me

I mean it’s good but there’s nothing particularly exciting here. However I did give one of their other offerings on here a 5 but that was so long ago I don’t remember much about it. This one is definitely not 5 star worthy. Long As I Can See The Light is the standout. Another one I want to give a 3.5

The songwriting is on point. But I'm not as passionate about 70's American blues-rock as you guys so I'm giving a generous 3.

fav songs: lookin' out my back door up around the bend who'll stop the rain i heard it through the grapevine energetic, tight, easygoing 60/100

Ok. Couldn’t listen to a whole album of it. Sounds very generic blues based rock (?) to me. Voice is a bit grating. Quite liked Ramble Tamble.

I quite like CCR, and always thought I should listen to them more. Didn't hate the album, but didn't really love it either. Definitely the CCR sound, but nothing massively new or interest to warrant a repeat listen.

Blues/roots/swamp rock is not a sound that I particularly love, but these people did write some really fun stuff in here. The album starts with a very interesting song, "Ramble Tamble". It has a great energy, specially thanks to the fantastic guitar riff, and a fascinating middle part that has a sense of progression as it feels like it gets bigger and bigger, until the return to the initial part. Really nice stuff. From here the record becomes a collection of more simple rock tunes that combine country, rock and roll and blues. They might be simpler in terms of structure and composition, but the artists have a lot of spirit and attitude, so there is not really a boring song in here. The variation in sound does also greatly contribute in not making this a monotonous experience. Now I should stop praising it before I might sound like an hypocrite. While I did have my fun listening to this, as I said in the beginning, I am not that enthusiastic for this type of sound, so I can't really say that I love it.

Had some good songs, a lot that sounded a lot like other songs as was the case I suppose but enjoyed it

Enjoyed it overall, realized I actually knew more of these songs than I thought. 7min intro song was a bit off-putting with a huge lull in the middle but a solid album, plus another 11min track later on dragged a bit. 3.25* Rounded down to 3*

Yeah this doesn’t really do anything for me. Has an overly commercialised country rock sound that’s just perfect for four-wheel drive ads.

It was good. The songs were too long and too short at the same time. Leah - 5/7 Leprechauns - Favourite - Ooby Dooby Austin - 5/7 Leprechauns - Favourite - Up Around the Bend

Chill classic rock

I knew a third of the album already, lots of 70s radio staples. CCR are one of those bands I pretty consistently enjoy without truly loving

Pretty good

mao lembroooooooooo

Best of Album: - Up Around The Bend - Who’ll Stop The Rain - Long As I Can See The Light

i liked the bluesy tone of this one. but it was disappointing that the first song was the longest and most interesting one

Another one that’s hard to rate because I’m sick of all the singles that I already know, but I’m sure if it was my first time hearing them I would feel differently. I did like the Ramble Tamble song, which was new to me.

"Cosmo's Factory" is a very American rock and roll blues. Heavily guitar-driven, it features some of CCR's most famous songs, such as the folk-rock "Who'll Stop the Rain". Yet some of the rockabilly and blues covers, such as "Ooby Dooby" and "Before You Accuse Me," are spirited but can feel slightly inessential, and more like major jam seshes. As a non-American I also feel that Fogerty's singing is a bit jarring. It is fine; there aren't really any skips. But it isn't something that I would listen to again

CCR gets a little repetitive for me (mostly due to vocals), but there were some great stand outs. “Travellin Band” and “Who’ll Stop the Rain” were great!

Good album, CCWR was on all the time when I was growing up, a 3/5 for me

Fine stuff. Delighted to have learned the term "swamp rock."

describe in what way this is not ska for boomers? other: a clear rebuttal to the times, rock and roll roots, americana distilled

very fun album, im not really a fan of the genre country/rock but this one is ok, nothing special but some tracks remained in my head. fun tracks, i dind't find bad tracks, enjoyable album. i really like the voice of the singer and also che guitar solo's.

very cool

Good album, awesome closer, wasn't ever the craziest on these guys but I'll throw this on again

Great jams.

When CCR is ON, like purestrain CCR firing on all cylinders, they could sell me a ketchup popsicle even if I were wearing white gloves. Unfortunately, while I get why the album has the songs it does, a lot of them are off. Before You Accuse Me and Ooby Dooby are misses, the Grapevine (a song I love) cover really is just too long, and already we've got about half the album axed. 5 star (hell, six star) with some edits, but ultimately I'll listen to the singles.

Top3 1: Run Trough The Jungle 2: Up Around The Bend 3: I Heard It Trough The Grapevine 3.5/5

Aikansa tuote :D

This isn’t really my taste but i can see why other people like it.

Northing special for me but pleasant enough listening.

Rock, Blues, 1970 -> 3

Some bands I know entirely through their greatest hits albums, but those I feel like I’ve heard endlessly. ABBA. Supertramp. Journey. Of course CCR. I don’t think I’ve ever heard of this album title or seen this cover before. But boy do I ever know those greatest hits.

CCR is legendary but, for some reason, just hasn't ever resonated with me.

Very much NOT my style of music but it’s serviceable for the time and for the genre

kinda funky! probably won’t be listening to often🥹

Some classics on here that I forgot were CCR.

It's fun rock n roll but a little too old school for me. I prefer the technical rock of the 70's over the southern boogie of the 60's.

Hehe I liked it

Good fun album. I wish I had a garage to blast this in. Not something I would listen to a lot but I am glad I experienced it

It's okay in a slice-of-60s-life sort of way. I like how they move into jam-band territory, with extended, free sections. It would be interesting to know how they connect to blues, country, Grateful Dead, etc.

quite mid but okay

So on the fence here because individually this album has so many great CCR songs that I love. But listening through from start to finish I didn't think it was such a strong album overall. A bunch of skips on here that don't compare to the highlight songs. I think I would revisit and rereview soon, but going with a 3 for now. Top Songs: Run Through the Jungle, Up Around the Bend, I Heard It Through the Grapevine

I like CCR, and some of my favorite tunes by them are in this album. generally though, the songs on this album I haven't heard before are that way for somewhat of a reason. I enjoyed it overall.

classic stuff but i've never been a huge fan...Who'll Stop the Rain is p good

Feels very classic 70s rock, some good tunes however I feel the covers I knew (particularly I Heard it Through the Grapevine) are just pale in comparison to the original

That's a hell of an opening track. Crossing between twengy country rock to a hard bluesy gam. Enjoyed this one more than expected. Second track is a more classic blues rock tune. Nice but not Revolutionary Track 3 has great vocals. And a good slide guitar solo. Ooby dooby is not my favorite. But a nice guitar solo Lookin out my back Door is a classic, and a super sweet country song. It demonstrates John Fogerty's ability to write anthems, and in so many genres. 6 is a short and heavy blues song. Liked it. 7 features great harmony vocals. It's a good refreshment to the sound. 8 a nice rendition of this classic rnb song. Good but not super necessary. Who'll stop the rain is a Fogerty classic and my favorite track on here. What a banger. 10, well, it's a massive song. And this version really does it justice. What a souly track to finish it up. Beautiful song. I still don't know what I feel about Creedence Clearwater Revival. On one hand, they are an objectively good band. They play great together,  and especially John Fogerty is a great songwriter with a rare ability of writing timeless songs. He just proved it again and again in those years. One the other hand, something about their "conservative" sound always put me a bit of. When it's country or folk it feels more right, but the white rock n roll they play, although they play it objectively well, doesn't do it for me. I'll give this a solid 3. It has many highlights.

Creedence progressively getting better with each album release. Cosmo's factory has got a good spread of music styles but still holds that swamp rock sound the band is known for. The album is pretty stacked with hit songs. I would drop the covers other than "Heard it Through the Grapevine." Their rendition is probably the best version of the song. Another solid record from CCR at 3.42 stars.

dad rock kings

Some really good tracks on this album (Lookin' Out My Back Door, their cover of I Heard It Through The Grapevine) and some really bad ones (Ooby Dooby). Overall, it's pretty good

Strong 5 to light 6, mid

Favorite Track: Lookin’ Out My Back Door Least Favorite Track: Before You Accuse Me (Take A Look At Yourself)

Zone out a fair bit. It's meh

So many sounded familiar to other songs which was kinda weird because I could never place where I had heard them.

I actually loved the way the song sounded. Was nice to listen to

She probably left you because you kept calling her 'Baby'. ... and WTF is that 'Ooby Dooby' track!? Rocking the MAGA vibe... that bluesy, country, southern rock thing just isn't for me. Heard before ❌️ Listened this time ✅️ Revisit ❌️ ★★★☆☆ (5/10) Total reviewed : 287 Already owned : 63 Purchased : 15 To buy : 3 Nope : 206

It was good

Weird record. It’s like a greatest hits album, with some covers tacked on. The songs holdup though, and JF really shines.

Very chill and vintage feeling. Feels like fall's mornings. Neutral colors... Lots of clouds without a glimpse of the blue sky... Having a coffee with bay biscuits while watching tv. It's neutral but a little depressing. Somewhat bizarre and a playlist an ex thief would listen to. Villain arc. A lone teacher man that uses a lot of scarves. Feels like England. Divorced man who Is alone 24/7. Chaotic and somewhat depressing. It doesn't have a lot of groove. It's clearly a little chaotic and seems to me like someone who doesn't show their feelings, fighting with their own thoughts and hiding it. Someone who isn't happy with their lives and have negative opinions about everything and everyone. Same man who sometimes feeds pigeons with bread. It's very percussive and doesn't have a lot of feeling. Up around the bend is the happiest song in the album. It feels like someone who smokes 🍁🪵🪾☕👞🚬 It wasn't memorable for me. I don't wanna listen to it never again. It's boring. Very boring. Doesn't feel like art.

I always find CCR heavier than I expect - I think in my head I confuse them with Crosby, Stills and Nash

General thoughts: I only knew CCR's greatest hits, and I’ll say this was a sad experience, though I'm sure they must have better albums. This album follows the style I had in mind, which it's cool; their essence is there. The opener was good too, a cool genre switch, but maybe the instrumental section overshadowed the other part too much. The vocals are raspy, raunchy, and powerful; he rarely goes to a higher register, but he is capable of it. Having got the eponymous album Lynyrd Skynyrd a couple of numbers ago, I see a clear similarity, actually, Lynyrd feels like CCR on steroids. Both are bluesy swampy country rock - Cosmo's Factory being more bluesy on the conservative side of things. That's one of my issues with this album. Another point of comparison is the guitar; they both have outstanding guitar sections and rely heavily on solos, making them shine. However, CCR can't save a song alone from the guitar, which Lynryd can - and that can make things worse somehow, sometimes. Example given: Heard It Through The Grapevine. A solid song which could have been 6 minutes and that's more than enough, instead it was dragged to eleven minutes in an album full of 2-3 minutes songs (and one 7), tanking the album experience and not really elevating the song standalone. Returning to the first point, it was sad that the best songs were the ones I already knew. Everything else feels very filler-like. Most of the songs are traditional blues tunes with no innovation, no outstanding lyrics, awkward drumming, and subpar production. The execution is good enough, but at least for this set of songs, it feels 8 years behind of what it should (This is 1970). Outstanding song(s):} Run through the jungle, Ramble Tamble Weakest song(s): My Baby Left Me, Ooby Dooby Cover: Chill, colorful, with movement, but still an ordinary lets-just-take-a-photo-and-call-it-a-day cover Real rating: 2.86

CCR is always a fun and easy listen for me. Such swampy and funky blues music with John Fogerty’s soulful vocals blasting. Sometimes the style and songs can get derivative.

Don’t care much for John fauxgerty, but this album rocks

I’m a little tired of the CCR, but enjoyed this nonetheless. All bangers, great hooks and unique swamp-rock sound. Credence stood the test of time, particularly this record.

Even though this type of music is about as far removed from my current tastes, this was not too bad of an album. This sort of music usually contains too much blues for me to get into it but somehow listening to an entire album did not feel like a drag. Although I don't plan on actively going out to look for more blues rock music any time soon.

Fun album. Really enjoyed the more rock n roll and blues rock songs. Root/country rock - not my jam

Fun record, I’d forgotten I’d listened to it this morning which is probably more a consequence of CCR being so prevalent in life

Becomes repetitive very fast. Just sounds like uncle music. And it's a crime that the 11 minute song is that long, it's not even that good.

3.5, not bad at all. Didn't know any of these songs.

Jammin and slammin

Rockalhada daquelas.

If I were in charge of the aux cord at a party where the majority of guests were over fifty, male, and from the generally southern part of the United States I would definitely put songs from this album on. It was chill. Travelin' Band gave me mega 'good golly miss molly' vibes and I think I like Mr. Revival's faster boogie songs. Lookin' Out My Backdoor, Who'll Stop the Rain, and Run Through the Jungle were my faves. I Heard it Through the Grapevine is 11 minutes long and you feel every inch of it! Cowbell was fun though. Like Bayou Country (my first-reviewed album!), I don't think this is /super/ my thing but I appreciate the skill and how it influenced later artists.

Decent album - not sure if you must listen before you die

This album was okay. Not my vibe, so it felt like a bit of a slog to get through after a couple tracks, but I can absolutely respect and see how they shaped so many bands and songs that came after them.

I liked this one a lot more than my other CCR album I've listened to on the list (Bayou Country.) Even though I do like this one more than Bayou Country, I just still see CCR more as a singles band rather than a band that has deep album cuts. This definitely has their trademarked swamp rock sound littered all over. I do have to say that John Fogerty is pretty good at writing absolute anthems. Highlight Song/s: "Lookin' Out My Back Door", "Up Around The Bend" and "Who'll Stop the Rain"

Great album with that distinct American sound. Preferred this over ‘Bayou Country’. Not sure I would listen to it a lot but perhaps I will find my way to it again. Rating: 3.5.

Está bien, no mucho más.

Cool tune

Good stuff! Even the spouse loved it.

This was great! I saved this one. More here than I was expecting

A brilliant album with some absolute classics of the early 70s, like Run Through the Jungle and Who’ll Stop The Rain. I love the drawn out opener, and the rework of Marvin Gaye’s I Heard It Through The Grapevine was so much fun. Really like Creedance but never done a full album listen through - Cosmo’s Factory got me in that funky Friday feeling!

My second Creedence Clearwater Revival album, and a pleasure to listen to overall.

3.1/5 Some absolute bangers on this album and then just some OK songs. Nice easy listening.

Solid album. Not too standout but good.

the songs were too long. guitar solos do nothing for me. very pleasant to listen to, albeit too boring at times. good old american road trip core. enjoyed it even more when i imagined myself one of the characters from that 70s show. eric foreman did approve, i'm sure. stand outs for me: who'll stop the rain, run through the jungle, up around the bend, long as i can see the light

funky country

Pretty bang average. Not a bad song just no that particularly stood out. Sounds like the transition between the 60s and 70s.

3-4 actually

why would you copy little richard’s tutti frutti and name it ooby dooby?

Fun rock album!

Decent 70s guitar, enjoyable. Didn’t last long in the memory though

Songs were deceptively long, but great instrumentals. Fairly sure Ramble Tamble has stairway to heaven lick in it (I’m sure that’s not new). Didn’t really remember many of the other songs, a nice experience but not a “YEAH PUNCH IT” kinda album for me.

It's Credence. I enjoyed the album, having heard a couple songs from it before.

Good classic sound

Mostly good

I like Neil Young bit this recording was a bit janky afaic

entertaining

Good singles, weak album.

another ccr album in a row. blue eyed soul v strong.

This was a weird one, and incredibly the second Creedence album we got in a row, so extra strange to compare them immediately. The good songs are really good (Run Through the Jungle, Who'll Stop the Rain), but some of the other ones really sound wrong. Travelin' Band is a straight up Little Richard rip off and it doesn't pretend to be anything else. Ooby Dooby is just bad, My Baby Left Me is really generic. The cover of Heard It Through The Grapevine is in the middle because they at least style it their way but it goes on for too long. For being their best selling album, it isn't nearly as good as "Green". The highs are high and the lows are low I guess.

All the CCR hits! Perfectly enjoyable nostalgia.

Good album

If it weren't for the bluesy and the 50s sounding Rock'n'Roll songs, this would have gotten 4 stars. I really like the "southern" vibe with the heavy grooves, but also the Rockabilly-tinged faster songs.

Traccia migliore up around the bend

Overall: Lots of classics in here that I grew up up listening to, and for good reason! Such a staple in the blues movement during the 60’s and 70’s. I had never listened to it all the way through and discovered Ramble Tamble is an absolute banger! Definitely some skips on here, but I genuinely can’t hate on CCR.

The opening track is soo oo good. After that it kind of falls down to a floating middle ground, without trying to sound too critical. Some good blues tunes there too. I enjoy listen to this album more than the first CCR album I reviewed in this generator.

Some very strong songs.

First second impression is that I know I'll enjoy this album. This type of music is not something I love to listen on repeat but it is enjoyable. I think it is too slow for me and there is a simplicity in the rhythm of the drums that make it hard to love for me personally. Solid 3/5 album

I think I prefer my CCR in the form of a Greatest Hits album. Although this one really did contain a sizable number of tracks that end up on that compilation anyway.

it's okay. fav track: I Heard It Through The Grapevine

Real mixed bag this, some absolutely amazing tracks (that opening song was insane) and more long winded blues-y noodling that this list seems to love (c’mon guys did the Grapevine cover really need to be 10 minutes?). 3.5 but leaning towards 3.

Violated the family ban long enough to listen through.

Solid! Maybe not my personal fave of all time, some songs stood out but maybe not something I am scrambling to listen to again any time soon.

it was fine! nothing really stood out to me, I think mostly just not my thing. I don't know if it was just the version I downloaded but there was a 2 minute silence at the end of heard it through the grapevine that made me think my music player broke

Solid album

Used to watch this podcast where one of the members said that listening to CCR gave seriously bad luck, and that was the only prior reference point that I had to them. No bad luck for me thus far! But I guess if anything shitty happens to me in the next few weeks I can blame it on listening to this album I guess... Pretty good! Was surprisingly familiar with some of the songs and melodies, not sure where I have heard them before though. 7/10

Some of these are ok, some of them are not. Not a bad album to have on in the car though

i'm not a big rock'n roll, blues, whatever guy so eh. but i see the appeal

Helt okej

Not a terrible album but it felt kind of boring and sort of basic. There were some great tracks in here those being some of the longer ones and I liked the great detail and riffs those had but other than that pretty stale album for me. 5/10, Favorite Song: Ramble Tamble

Pretty enjoyable bluesy album.

Just because I used to listen to this album when I was 6 But I am not so fond on it

The best of the 3 CCR albums on the list but still not amazing

The Marvin Gaye cover was cool. Thats about it, rest is fine?

Meh, alright.

A pretty fun album with a few very great tracks

Creedence Clearwater Revival – Cosmo's Factory Cosmo’s Factory is a rare case where I can fully admire the technicality and immaculate rockmanship without actually finding a favorite track. The production is undeniably top-tier, perfecting a vintage blend of country and rock that feels structured and intentional. John Fogerty’s vocal performance and the band's organic chemistry are triumphant in their execution, proving why this is a sophisticated inclusion on the 1001 list. However, despite the high-level musicianship, the album lacks those standout moments or cinematic hooks that give a record true lasting power in my rotation. It’s a really good technical achievement that I respect more than I love, a solid 3/5 that serves as a high-quality, though not essential, discovery.

3.5/5 This CCR Album was good but felt like the gas pedal was to the floor the whole time. Had so many great songs, but could have used a ballad or slow down in there. Also I heard it through the grapevine was unnecessarily long.

Favourite Songs: Long As I Can See The Light, Ramble Tamble

Classic Protest Rock ain’t for me. And his voice is super overrated.

6.5/10

A double certified Jason’s Deli Classic. It’s more of the same from the other album/s I have heard. Pretty iconic voice and a bunch of very talented musicians just not really my type of music. 6/10

Decent I would say - will listen for sure

This kind of felt like listening to a rockier version of Jools Holland's New Years Eve show, with loads of catchiness in the songs. I wouldn't say this is really my vibe though, but I had a pretty fun time listening to the album. Favourites would include "Ramble Tamble" and "Who'll Stop The Rain". Unfortunately, this version of "I Heard It Through The Grapevine" is WAY too long in my opinion so that is currently my least favourite.

I miss when songs were 4-5 minutes. The guitar licks and the drums were unstoppable.

Strong opener (the proggy bits without vocals). Album gave a mild pining for LSD. Grapevine is kinda heavy! Fun listen overall.

Best song is up around the bend

Something different but seemed similar to something I’ve heard before

Good fun, won’t be tempted to re-listen anytime soon, however. Standout tracks: - Ramble Tamble 4/5 - I Heard It Through The Grapevine 4/5

- I like the that they give instrumental moments in each song - it feels very American - I like when the songs really get into a more relaxed rhythm - I could listen to at a live bar - “Before You Accuse Me” sounds like it should be in a 60-70’s movie soundtrack

Its just okay i mean not bad for sure but yk

i feel like to me this is one of those "VERY" innovative rock albums from the early 70's that i should get but i don't cause everything else sounds like it from the time. i did like the bits where it went out of the norm and had bits of sax and stuff in it haha

This was definitely an enjoyable listen, and the band is undoubtedly one of the best of that era. Their sound is so iconic, being the sound of the South. His voice is great, and punches through well throughout the album. I'm definitely more of a fan of the hits on the album compared to the rest of the album, and that cover of I Heard It Through The Grapevine is respectable but nowhere near the level of quality of the soul artists that covered it prior. If I listened to this through the south it would have a higher rating but got a little tired of the sound by the end.

Several hits and a surprise with “Before You Accuse Me” - pretty cool but short & less depth.

This isn't my favorite kind of music but CCR probably does it better than anyone else, in my opinion. Strong 7/10

swamp rock is cool. not too much else to add. okay album.

I enjoyed it. Good 70s rock sound

⭐️⭐️⭐️

I mean, it's a really good album, has some major bangers and really 1-2 solid b-sides. It might be a little bit too american sometimes, but i understand it and embrace it in some of the tracks (Up Around The Bend 4example). For me it'ts a solid 3.5-3.75

classic 70's rock vibe. doesnt stand out too much to me, its not my vibe but i appreciate it. i do like the guitar riffs. those are so fun. who'll stop the rain was my favorite song.

A good listen, but won't make it into the rotation.

11 minute I Heard It Through The Grapevine jam 🔥

It was alright. My first foray into “swamp rock”. Wouldn’t pick it up again. Favorite song: cover of I Heard it Through the Grapevine.

country? mia favoritas fueron who’ll stop the rain y run through the jungle

1: Ramble Tamble: kind of a western vibe, mid modern cowboy esque? not bad, 7/10, gets better as you keep listening for sure 2: Before you Accuse me: i liked it :) 3: Travelin' Band: very upbeat, kinda reminds me of the Time Warp from RHPS 4: Ooby Dooby: another dance song I suppose 5: Lookin out the back door: forgettable 6: Run Through the Jungle: VIBE SWITCH i like this one Overall: Im on song 4 so far and its good but I don't think I'd listen to this on my own accord on song 6, maybe I would listen to it? I would have to be in a very specific mood I feel Ok done, overall I would give this album a solid 7/10. It was pretty good but I would just not put this on of my own accord but there are some bangers in there.

Decent album feels like every song belongs in sinners

While I usually do like this type of rock, this is a boring album. The track "I Heard It Through The Grapevine" is not as good as the Marvin Gaye version and way longer for some reason.

First album of 2026! This is a quality record I'm just not super into it. I feel like all CCR albums are kinda the same to me. Favorite track: Who'll Stop The Rain 3.5/5

Bit too bluesy for my taste

A nice continuing foray back in time to the 70s. While listening, I was surprised to read that I'm quite near the birthplace of CCR: El Cerrito, just north of Berkeley. (Cosmo's Factory was a warehouse space they practiced in.) How did a couple of Bay Area kids arrive at this Southern 'swamp rock' style--their spiritual home not the Bay but the Bayou? Growing up in a mostly immigrant community, I knew few folks who listened to music like this (my white friends were mostly listening to grunge). My first associations of CCR are in where I first heard them, pitch-perfect: Forrest Gump. The subsequent associations with Vietnam and the antiwar movement are perhaps what tie things back to their Bay origins. Here today in rainy Berkeley, on one street, we had coffee at an Arabic cafe, then lunch at a Chez-Panisse-alum's spot whose storefront reads, "No Musk No Bezos No Billionaire Nazis." Then lox, bagel, and pastrami at the packed Jewish delicatessen. CCR playing as the soundtrack of the day didn't quite fit the vibe, but nonetheless evoked many intertwining histories.

CCR is great - great balance and composition. However, this is one of those albums that I would prefer to listen live with all of the jamming.

Pretty good, hit and miss 6.5/10

I love creedence, another one that i grew up on because of dad. I’m not sure in this album though, i just think I’m not in the right mood for it right now.

- 70s - freedom, adventure - motivation music but not my style 8/10

Initial thoughts - Some pretty good Southern blues rock. Fairly generic, but I suppose that's more to do with the amount of people who were trying to be CCR in the years afterwards. Best avoid the longer tracks though as they do drag a little.

I listened to this album a lot as a child. It's good - classic. Not something I gravitate towards these days.

Quite middle of the road. Could listen to it for a bit but gets samey after a while.

Oli hyvä levy. 3,25/5.

Run Through The Jungle är odödlig men albumet lite trist i längden

It was good

What the… a second album by CCR this week! Again, not so random, maybe more luck… I can’t believe this is their fifth album in 2 years! It’s got a nice, warm sound capturing some great performances. Along with the numerous covers, they really seem to be paying homage to their roots and influences on this album although maybe that’s their sound, and if it is, it does sound very refined at this point in their career. Although the long ones here might be a tad long (but that’s how I felt when I heard the other album this week) it was a good listen.

-I have officially made it to tambourine city! -Very psychedelic (y) adjacent -Ramble Tamble : love snare hits on the 2 and 4 -Travelin' Band: Such a fucking bop. Do the 'crusin' for a bruisin' choreo to this (so satisfying) -Lookin' Out My Backdoor: This one's for the roadtrip (heavy on the banjo) the meter change is also very satisfying -I'm getting 'Let it Be' vibes from track 'Long As I Can See The Light' -There was nothing particularly special about this album, but I liked it. Solid!

I loved the rhythm. It's nice

Good for it’s day
