Pomposity to the fore, rather than songwriting or melody. Only the mighty James Murphy made them sound interesting rather than just another dull as ass American Indie band moaning about something. Cannot understand how high a regard this is held in
I keep on forgetting this band is really good - songs are memorable over decades and they have this lush unique sound to them. This one is a perfectly paced and balance album

Kinda meh, kinda interesting. Heavily influenced by 70s glam rock.
Springsteen and War on Drugs vibes. Thick, plush instrumentation. Catchy singable dark arena rock tunes. Will get more listens in the future. Great combo of arena rock bangers and indie sensibilities. Not as strong of an album as “The Suburbs”, which is definitely more hooky, but I will definitely give this album more spins in the future.
Heavy religious inspired album. Lots of anti-establishment sentiment as well. Fast-paced, a bit stressful to listen to, but not necessarily in a bad way. Makes you feel the frantic nature of living in modern 21st century (early 21st century release). Album closes with big cathedral organ sound, with win butler’s voice echoing over a pulsating drum/guitar thump. Really glad I saw this band live.

As an old dad in his cardigan and slippers I don't need to engage in the social tittle-tattle part of this band and purely concentrate on the music which I enjoy. Overblown and grandiose which is what I like. Inventive and immesive this is a work of art.
A thoroughly enjoyable listen which has many strengths but too safe throughout, lacking that spark that would bring it to the next level

This one takes me back to my teenage years, I remember listening to this album on repeat when I was 17/18. I got sick of hearing "Keep The Car Running" and "Intervention", but never got tired of "No Cars Go". I think I had listened to Funeral before this came out, but Neon Bible was the album that really got me into Arcade Fire. I love the darkness and melancholy throughout it, and especially the intensity of "(Antichrist Television Blues)". "Windowsill" is great too, and "Black Mirror" is a fantastic opener. I thought I'd feel a bit weirder about listening to this after the allegations against Win Butler, but I think I have strong enough memories of this album that I can separate it from him. I feel sorry for the rest of the band, but their new music weirds me out a bit now (it's also just not as good).

5th December 2022 Listened throughout the day while doing zero work. Went to Costco and watched White Lotus in the evening. I love arcade fire and it’s a shame all the stuff about Win has come out. They don’t scale the heights of suburbs here but it’s gothic and moody and still great.
Just be chill in your room, kind of sad music.
Best Song: Keep The Car Running. I like when a song's lyrical themes match well with the feelings imparted by the music itself. Here, both the lyrics and music give a feeling of haste and urgency that works really well. Worst Song: My Body is a Cage. Overly whiny, verging on Smashing Pumpkin's "despite all my rage..." Overall: Extremely well-produced, but still lacks the soul I'm looking for. Everything feels very polished, well-thought out and constructed, but lacks some internal something necessary for me to actually care about it.
As a big arcade fire fan I played this a lot when it first came out, but to be honest since suburbs I have only listened to this a handful of times apart from the main hits (no cars go, my body is a cage). Was really good to listen back to this it really is a great album, but just doesn’t quite match up to Funeral or Suburbs, and I would probably rank reflector above it too. But that’s just my personal opinion, great band great album just not their masterpiece, maybe harsh but a solid 4 star album. Such a shame Win Butler turned out to be a sex pest.
I'd really like a little more time with this album, but I have to move on. I'm familiar with the band, but only form 'Funeral', which I picked up soon after it was released. 'Power Out' from that album was so good the first time I heard it that I picked it up immediately. The album is very good, but didn't make it into my permanent rotation and I think of a narrow slice of time if I hear anything from it. Neon Bible is 100% new to me. It's good, not great. There are some amazing songs throughout. But more that come up short. I can't hear 'Keep the Car Running' without also hearing Eddie and the Cruisers, and it ruins the song for me. The middle of the album, from Black Wave to Windowsill, stall out. But Black Mirror, Intervention, No Cars Go, My Body is a Cage...all fantastic tunes. Love the rich, layered sound, the dynamics, the raw emotion in the lyrics. All very beautiful and worth of coming back to.
Mi pare un'operazione molto pop per arrivare in radio nel 2015. Un po' indie, anzi molto indie. Tipo che anticipa tutti i vari successi degli ultimi anni. Bella "intervention", poco indie. "(Antichrist television blues)" ha qualcosa del Boss. Passate le prime canzoni un po' troppo piatte migliora, non male anche "Windowsill"
Great album...not quite the tour de force that is Funeral, but a worthy follow up. I may have listened to this one more than Funeral back when it was released. 4.5/5

I don't have much to say about this album, but it's pretty alright. I appreciate the calm and softness of the vocals, and of course I'm going to mention the strings. I love hearing strings, mainly violin on any record. Black Mirror was a great song to start the album with. Fave track(s): Intervention, The Well and the Lighthouse
Good vibe
Grandiose and symphonic, this album takes a maximalist approach to its production (self produced of course). The result is an exceptionally lush album replete with strings, synth, guitars, and other various instrumentation. Lyrically, this album explores the idea of America especially from the view from outside.

It's alternately beautiful and gaudy. Grand and excessive. It's too much and just right in turns. At the end of the album, I have to say I enjoyed it. But I don't know that I loved it. I might have to give this one another go at a later date...

Was this before or after Edwin started the rape? I'm too lazy to jump in to the minutiae of the headlines. I mean, if someone yells 'rapist', then they are cancelled. Easy-peasy. I like things simple. I'm a headline guy and just can't be bothered. But, I'm also an optimist so I'm going to assume this was before the assaults, because it's the music that matters, right...?
My BC (before creepiness) rating is 4. I like this band. I like Funeral better but I like this album too. I struggle with these anonymous allegations of assault and/or misconduct - not because I don’t believe them but I also do believe in the “innocent until proven guilty” principle. Oh I forgot—they’re Canadian so I guess that doesn’t matter. In sum, my AD (after [admitted and confirmed] deception) rating is a 3.
I think we listened to "The Suburbs" a week or two before the allegations about Win Butler came out and changed people's impression of Arcade Fire forever. I gushed over "The Suburbs." Then two months later, along comes "Funeral," and I acknowledged the allegations but even with Win's s***iness souring our associations with the music, those scale-breaking albums are still 5's. "Neon Bible" came up in the generator just a month later, all three albums by Arcade Fire within a three month span, the same three month span that saw their legacy forever changed. I didn't review it at the time. But in my "Suburbs" review, I did say: Arcade Fire came close to dispelling the curse of the sophomore slump with "Neon Bible." In fact, in terms of sales and acclaim, there was no dip. But "Funeral" was almost impossible to follow. "Neon Bible" still has an amazing start with "Black Mirror" and "Keep the Car Running," and "No Cars Go" is also terrific, but nothing in between really stands out in the way that "Funeral" was consistently terrific throughout. A couple years later, no longer nearly as big of a fan of the group, I think that opinion holds. "Neon Bible" was removed from the list. Deserved. So was "Suburbs." Not deserved. Though Win does deserve to be cancelled and removed from our idolatry despite the artistry of those first three albums.
In my review of the previous album we had by Arcade Fire, I mistook them for Ok Go. While AF’s videos may be less gimmicky, that album was as forgettable as anything the other group has put out. Thankfully this album has a bit more going for it. There’s much more musicality, deeper lyrics and driving rhythms (although by track 7 or 8 they become detrimentally unrelenting). Oceans of Noise is my fave of the group - head and shoulders above the rest, and may even convince me to look again at the Fire.
Keep The Car Running and My Body Is A Cage are the two songs I like the most. There are a couple others I like too, but the rest I could take or leave. (Antichrist Television Blues) sounds like an attempt to sound like Bruce Springsteen. This is a big drop off from Funeral and I’m fine with it being removed in later editions of the 1001 book.
I was indifferent about this album. A few decent songs (No Cars Go, Ocean of Noise) peppered in with a bunch of otherwise forgettable filler tracks. Didn’t really care for the vocals. I read some other reviews of the album and it sounds like they put on a great live show, and there are apparently several other albums that are very highly touted. Maybe they’ll make me listen to another one, until then….

Before they journeyed down through the suburbs, reflecting on their statuses whilst questioning the pervasive consequences of technology on life, love, society and families, Arcade Fire were looking down the neon bible, plotting one foot in the mainstream and one foot out of the increasingly acknowledged indie world. In an age where earnest, bombastic rock was seen with a sneer and some eye rolling, Neon Bible sees the band unapologetically wear their hearts on their sleeves and make the move to become the most ambitious band of their generation. Could either be the peak of the bands career or the near-peak.
Eh. It is just there. Nothing great about it. I listened to it while grocery shopping so I guess it better than grocery store music. However, if one does not hear the grocery store music, how can one know that this album was better? No need to listen to this again.

I must admit, I started this album expecting a really bad, cringy, Imagine Dragons like band. Although it had some of that Imagine Dragons sound (you could tell Imagine Dragons were influenced by these guys), this album must have been ten to thirty times better than anything Imagine Dragons have ever put out. I especially liked Keep the Car Running, Intervention, Ocean of Noise, and My Body is a Cage. Overall, a surprisingly good album from a genre I've mostly ignored, and band I hadn't heard until now.
Every time I hear an Arcade Fire album it makes me want to sit in my garage and “Keep the Car Running”

Dig it
I'd never heard of Arcade Fire so wasn't sure at all what to expect. Some songs gave me a strong Brian Ferry/Roxy Music vibe which I enjoyed. I will say that some of it sounded a bit samey but a good listening experience overall Honestly not sure I would actively go and listen to the album through and through again but good to step out of the usual. My favourite song: My Body is a Cage

Wow, this was unexpectedly bland. I enjoyed the other two albums I got on here from these folks… this one is a serious sophomore slump if I’ve ever heard it. It felt like they were just going through the motions of writing songs without any good ideas to put in them. It wasn’t entirely terrible to listen to, but I wouldn’t spin it again.
Woof. This one is very far from when I originally listened to it and enjoyed it. A couple of strong tracks, but pretty dreadful as a project.

Arcade Fire fall at the center of a Venn diagram with many overlapping circles: "mediocre," "bland," "arrogant," "wearing their influences on their sleeves," "worshipping other mediocre artists." They really embodied a lot of the worst elements of mid-2000s indie rock scene. They didn't hit the lows of Foster the People or Mumford and Sons, but short of being industry plants like those garbage factories, they were pretty miserable. This is another album that has been scrubbed from my version of the list, so I don't know the authors' justification for including it, but judging from the entry they wrote about Funeral, it wouldn't be the sort of inspirational write-up that would make me reconsider my dismissal of this dreck. Listening to this is a chore.

When I first heard this album when it was released, it was a bit of a let down from their debut, Funeral. It had a similar vibe and I to me, it felt like it could have been outtakes or extra tracks from the previous album. Putting that aside and listening again, it holds up well on it's own and live, many of these tracks are powerful and highlights. Still prefer Funeral and The Suburbs (both 5 stars), but Neon Bible is a pretty good sophomore effort and a lot better than what would come later.

Arcade Fire on paper is exactly who I want to listen to. However, this album sucks. I don't understand why it's in the list. The Suburbs is a thousand times better. The best song on here is My Body Is A Cage, and it wasn't even released as a single.

Definitely interesting and engaging. When it hits, it soars with passion, with Intervention being a big highlight. I also really enjoyed Ocean of Noise and My Body is a Cage, though a lot of the rest of the album is just good... it is a style I enjoy, but not much stands out as being exceptional. Almost a 4.

Great album.
I am not really an indie fan, but this album was fantastic. The Springsteen-esque lyricism and delivery came out strong with the very interesting style of rock, fast in tempo, heavy in synth and guitar effects, with a underlying folk style as well. Production is clearly indie but the album is scaled at something much larger. 5/5!

4.0 + Part of what I think makes "Funeral" successful is that Arcade Fire somehow manages to harness their emotional and sonic intensity letting it spill over only at climactic moments. I love how that album propels you on a journey, leading with urgency, punctuating the trip with colorful bursts of ecstatic emotion (e.g. "Wake Up"). With Neon Bible, AF are mostly able to dial in all that energy but there are moments where the intensity proves more than they can handle, and they end up sounding overblown. First is "Intervention" where Win Butler lets go on the vocals, belching out sincerity over a massive orchestra and it all sounds like Bruce Springsteen at his sweatiest and most insistent (see "Born to Run"). Not my favorite. Second are the screechy vocals paired with synthesized strings on "Black Wave." Finally, I've always disliked "No Cars Go" - it sounds like a parody of 2007 indie rock. As a side note: why did so many indie songs of that era feature that group-shouted "HEY!" trope? (see also "Little Talks" by Of Monsters and Men) With all this said, I still really like this record, notably the three song stretch of "The Well and the Lighthouse", "(Antichrist Television Blues" and "Windowsill."

This LP has a big sound, with the strings, backing vocals and synths providing textures different than most indie rock. The lyrics are dark and the lead singer hasn't got a lotta range so it can get tiring after a while. Between a 3 and a 4 for me but I'll round up for the final 2 tracks, especially "cage".
I will try to be professional here and separate the douchey artist from the art. In the early naughts I remember browsing at the local Sunrise Records in Toronto (yes vinyl!) and they were playing music from a new band with a \"huge sound\" it indie rock but totally distinct from anything I had heard before. I asked the clerk who it was and he showed me Arcade Fire's debut album, Funeral. The guitar intro to Wake Up and the ensuing chorus literally made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. Needless to say I bought the album and devoured it when I got home. Funeral was a very special album, this their second effort isn't quite up there, but it has some strong songs with No Cars and My Body is a Cage. Overall their debut was much stronger and I would give it 4 stars, so this one is slightly lower at 3.

I enjoyed it for the most part, the light synth type actual instrumental sounds we even to keep me interested, if the vocal and lyrics were a bit lacking. Overall not bad.
"Neon Bible" is the second studio album from the Canadian band Arcade Fire. They recorded this album at a church in Quebec and produced it themselves. The band used the song "Black Mirror" and a re-working of an earlier song "No Cars Go" as a starting point. They tried looking at America from an outsiders' view as a thematic perspective with the ocean and TV, particularly Evangelical preachers, also as themes and imagery. And, I would say they do it quite effectively. They incorporated a choir, orchestra and other less common instruments (hurdy-gurdy, mandolin, accordion and pipe organ) into the music. Some of those instruments play major parts. This album contains some of Win Butler's (lead singer) best lyrics. Arcade Fire's strengths have been they are good at building momentum within a song, ending majestically and creating almost anthems. I enjoyed this album a lot more today than when it came out. I think the music matches their theme as good as any of their albums. The album starts with oceans sounds on "Black Mirror" and builds with piano keys and the rhythm section. Kind of a haunting song about the uncensorship of TV's, phones-black mirrors. "Keep the Car Running" is another slow starter with strings and again builds into one of their more anthem-like songs. Great melody. Kind of Springsteen-like. I think he talking of paranoia and fear of pending things like death. The pipe organ plays a major role in "Intervention" giving a church-type feel. Obviously on purpose, since he's talking about political and religious hypocrisy. Again, a song great at building momentum with Win's and Regina Chassagne's vocals, strings and, heck, a xylophone. By the way, I'll always mention a xylophone if I hear it. A highlight of the album second half is "The Well and the Lighthouse" with an urgency in the music (bass, drums, guitar). A song about temptation and greed based on the Fable "The Fox, the Wolf and the Well." Regina's backing vocals are great again. One of the best Arcade Fire songs is "No Cars Go." The orginal version is very sparse. This version is their anthem. Strings, accordion, multiple singers, great lyrics. " Between the click of a light and the start of dream" --- reaching the perfect place. I gained a lot more respect for "Neon Bible." I think one of the reasons is that in their recent albums, they are almost too serious, both with their music and lyrics. They are serious in "Neon Bible" but they reach a great balance where it it isn't entirely overbearing. It's defintely up near their best with "Funeral" and "The Suburbs."
I have this "problem" with Arcade Fire's music: I appreciate them ticking all the boxes, but their music just fails to uplift me. Can't say exactly why, we don't seem to be working on the same wavelength.
Man… why’d Win Butler have to go and be an abusive asshole? The first three Arcade Fire records are perfect.

I'm not really into Win's singing style, and the recent allegations of sexual misconduct made it hard to WANT to listen to this. The album is an absolute favorite, and recently. Their careful blend of music and vocals achieves the kind of balance that makes for a complete experience. To say this is a perfect album would be a bit much, but it does have a sense of delicateness where if you add more of a single element, or take away some of another, this balance quite obviously would be disrupted somehow. The completeness is the real draw here, a supreme satisfaction at the end of a listen.

What a great album! Song after song picks you up, building up from a simple cell, adding layer on layer of sound and rhythmic intensity. Adding this to my own list of favourites!

Songs seemed like those of other bands in many cases. Don’t ask me who. Most were somewhat inaccessible to me but I really liked (Antichrist Television Blues).
First few tracks felt like they were trying too hard - "look at us! We're indy and angry about it!". I liked it by the end - No Cars Go was catchy. Don't know that I'll be adding this to my permanent rotation, but didn't hate it.
Big sounds, really enjoyable, probably a lot more there with more listens. Still, just something kind of missing, but can't put my finger on it. Still, definitely will be revisiting.

Great album even 15 years on. Taking into account when it was written 2006/7 the messaging around the commercialisation and exploitation of Religion makes more sense in that context. The gloomy tone is helped by the usage of organ etc throughout the album. Intervention, no car go, my body is a cage, keep the car running some of my favourites off this album. Doesn’t get as much credit as it should, probably not helped by being the follower to one of the most acclaimed indie debuts ever.
This was a bit of a miss for me, just a bit flat. Which I wasn’t expecting from the Arcade fire. I really liked their earlier album.
The worst of Arcades Fire early run. No Cars Go is fantastic. The rest is quite mixed.

A sad album - Keith Also something about a 30ft hotdog Average day but good talks, feeling a little wobble. Great run.
Overall, alright album. Not something I would go out of my way to listen to, though. I enjoyed Intervention and Bad Vibrations. What I found interesting was that this album is deemed important/influential, but I have never heard of this album and any of its songs until now.
I thought that I’d like this more than I did.
Funeral was always going to be a hard album to follow and with this they do well. Its it is still anthems at times but doesn't fall into U2 type tropes. The production by the band in a church) sounds authentic ( whatever that means!) The new tunes hold their own (tbpugh one is nicked from an earlier e p.) As strong as the debut. 4.
they said among us in one of the songs not really my type. standout so far is keep the car running. will maybe listen to again to get a real feel for it. the well and the lighthouse is also good. overall it was kind of boring. reminded me of the killers but not as good.
Fucking corny
I had heard of this group before but I couldn't name any of their songs. I was excited to check them out and the album got off to a decent start but I quickly lost interest and discovered that their music isn't my thing. I don't think that it is awful, just not my favorite type of music.
Music for basic white men bitches. I don't know, man. It just sounds like every single indie artist of the 2010's with that whiny forlorn, yet aloof "cool artist guy" sound. Meh.

A true spiritual successor to Funeral, just as anthemic and triumphant as ever before, while still experimenting with plenty of new ideas, some of which take some time to get used to. It doesn't have as many iconic classics as Funeral or Suburbs, but it's just as fun and vibrant. Yet it also feels pretty dark, in a gothic dance way, indicated by the opener (which sounds a lot like a track from Funeral), the album cover, and the cathedral orchestral instrumentation used throughout to amplify the dramatic effect. I was a bit disappointed with the direction of the songs, as they felt a bit too repetitive without much variation, which caused a lot of songs to merge together to me (save for the obvious differences in instruments or vocal styles). Still a fantastic album, and I'll still rotate it, but I consider it to be their weakest. Favorites: Intervention, No Cars Go, My Body is a Cage
A really pleasant album for background listening. I very much enjoyed having it on while working. What kept it from being really great though was the lack of standout tracks or moments. The track that came closest was The Well And The Lighthouse.
Good album
This is the third Arcade Fire album I have gotten on this list. They're a good band, but I don't know about three albums out of 1,001. That said, this is another good album.

Good, as I remember from when I first listened to it.
Arcade Fire's first three albums are a holy trinity of indie rock music, and while I couldn't definitively say which is my absolute favourite, "Neon Bible" stands out as the most grandiose. It's bleak but beautiful, orchestral but modern, has something important to say but doesn't drown you in its message - a skill Arcade Fire has unfortunately lost in their more recent releases. There isn't a bad song on this album; in fact, there isn't even a song that is merely 'good'. Every song is either great, or total perfection ("Keep the Car Running", "No Cars Go" and "My Body Is a Cage", to name just a few of the latter). Along with "Funeral" and "The Suburbs", I still listen to this album very often, and I suspect that won't change for as long as I continue to enjoy music. Standout tracks: Every single song on this album is a standout. There's nothing here worth skipping, from start to finish.

Arcade Fire, One of my sons favourite bands, they are OK but don't see what the hype is about really. Pretty standard 2010's rock music here. I find it slightly repetitive and sub Talking Heads standard really. I liked "Keep The Car Running" Not on My List I am afraid
I like this album and I've kind of always liked Arcade Fire even though when I think of them in the abstract, they seem kind of boring. A friend of mine had free tickets to a show of theirs, a big arena show, and invited me along. I went but kind of felt like it was going to be a slow evening. It definitely wasn't. It was a helluva show and they worked their asses off. The songs are all sort of big emotion songs, though I feel like if each one was just a few degrees off from where it actually lands, I wouldn't be able to listen to any of it. But this album in particular is one of their better ones and I've listened to it plenty. And I'll listen again, so - 4 stars.
Didn't get much juice out of this lemon
I liked and still like this album. It's less anthemic than the one that precedes it and feels decidedly more '80s influenced. "Black Wave/Bad Vibrations" is a fave and I simply like the fact that this album shares a title with a John Keenedy Toole novel. But I'm still pissed at this band, whom I saw on tour for this album, and whom I guess had decided that they were too cool to play "Wake Up," which is a bit like Skynrd saying, "Nah, fuck that," to the person in the crowd screaming "Free Bird!" If there was ONE song we all wanted to hear... that was it. I saw U2 play a stadium a solid decade after The Joshua Tree came out and guess what? They fucking played "With or Without You" and it was sublime. Arcade Fire? Just couldn't be bothered that night with sublime. Oh well. I haven't listened to an album of their's since, lol. #holdinggrudges
This is the 3rd album from this band on the list, and no, we didn't need 3 (plus?) Arcade Fire albums. This was better than the other two, though - it's still hipster drivel, all marching band drums and indie rock annoyance, but somehow it didn't make me want to smash my flat like the other two did. I'd even go as far as saying some of the tracks were "pretty good". 3/5.

Coincidence: just the other day, someone mentioned this band to me as one they like so I had made a mental note to give them a listen...and promptly forgot until this album came up in the rotation, so thank you! I like this album. Some nicely catchy songs in here with enough of a different sound that it catches my interest. I particularly like what I hear as a rockabilly-esque 'Antichrist Television Blues'. It's not such a standout that I plan to come back to it, but it's decent stuff.
Great album, enough variation to keep it interesting. Uptempo drumbeat contrasts well with 'bleak' sounding vocals. Organs, strings, horns on various tracks to make up for repeating chorus lyrics bore. Catchy standouts: "Keep the Car Running", No Cars Go".

I think I’ve covered this at least once already. Not a particular fan, I think the lyrics are faux-clever, the music has that excessive loudness of so much modern production but under that and a lot of overclocked effects it isn’t much. Would happily never listen to any of it again.
One of my favorite albums from my college days. Such an amazing album. It was the first time I'd ever listened to them and I couldn't get enough. Hearing these songs takes me back to college and listening on my iPod while walking around campus. Every song is good on this album and I haven't hear an album of theirs that hits as hard as this one. Instant 5 for me.

Initially disappointed with Neon Bible after the enjoying Funeral and the first EP. This recent re-listen shows an accomplished slow burner with Springsteen Americana, New Order-style crescendo climaxes. And it has a slightly re-worked No Cars Go from the first EP. A good powerful brooding accessible Arcade Fire album, but not as many "hits" as Funeral.

I like Arcade Fire, don't love them. Intervention is my favorite song on this album, and I like that the whole album sounds like it should be played in concert in a church or cathedral. They did a great job capturing a certain ambience. Probably a 4.5 but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt here.
Being AF the greatest band of our generation, there is an ongoing discussion about which is their best record. This one, the second of their “holy trinity” has many adepts and you can see why. I read a boomer once, in a review of this record saying he did not get Bowies fascination with the band, for him they were too dramatic and not that gifted when it came to interpreting, I found that quite funny because to me, our beloved Bowie was always more about artistry than virtuosity, to me, the connection he found is quite evident. I love this record and it is a 5/5 even If it only suffices for a third in the rank (which tells you something about the other two) but, who could resists those magnificent transitions, all that palpable emotion? They do know (or at least did back then) how to turn songs around and explode with raw emotion and feels. I think the record starts a bit slow but from the moment Intervention breaks in, it is just one magnificent song after the other, I think I was brought to tears the first time I heard that song, and it happens a lot during the length of the record, that indomitable escalation in the song with those mariachi trumpets in Ocean Of Noise is something I will always get caught up. I’m glad this was part of the soundtrack of my youth, we did know a place were no cars go back then. I think this record was recorded on an abandoned church, I guess that’s how they managed that gigantic sound in My Body is a Cage, I think we will keep finding that song in movies and tv whenever they want to musicalize the climax.

Loud and triumphant, the instrumentals really do a lot of work for what I feel is a mediocre voice and okay lyrics. It just feels like the guy has a generic male singer voice, which is a shame. Everything jumbled together by the second song. Also it just gave off a depressing vibe. Not my cup of tea.

I like a lot of these songs, separately. A little Arcade Fire goes a long way, and an entire album of their work can make you wish it was before the halfway point. The word "overblown" comes to mind.
After Funeral there was no where for Arcade Fire to go but down. Luckily they didn't fall too far. I find Neon Bible a very different sounding album; thicker, darker production that is in stark contrast to Funeral's lighter, childlike feel. Not a bad thing in and of itself. It's the songs where Neon Bible falls short. There are still some very good songs; Keep the Car Running, Ocean of Noise, Windowsill and No Cars Go to name a couple. But the heaviness of the album makes carrying that weight a chore all the way through. That's not aided by the fact that Regine's contributions are lesser in both quantity and quality. Still a good album but one I probably would not have included on this list. 3.5 stars

My favourite. Pompous but with a purpose. I think they really did it right with that one. No dead weight like on the other albums that would follow.
I'm really not a big fan of Arcade Fire's work, but I enjoyed this one. My favorite is The Suburbs and I quite dislike the others I've had the mischance to listen to. Anyway, glad I gave this one a chance.
Probably my fav AF. I used to be a huge fan, now that I discover more music, I'm less impress. But I admire the fact that they merge a lot of genre and compete with pop artist in the last 2 decades and still manage to reach the tops mainstream charts
I don't like this band, nor this album, but apparently it was a very influential work on an unpleasant musical trend of the late 2000s. It's revolutionary and my friends will hate me if I give it the bottom of 3 stars, so here comes 3 stars and I never want to hear about it again.

Now this is interesting, a bad indie rock album. Or maybe it's just me. Apparently their third best, after the debut and "The Suburbs". I already heard the latter and I thought it was decent, just a bit colorless. I described it as a plain rock album dressed up with nostalgic sounds. It's pretty neat. I also learned that Arcade Fire is a pretty popular band. I agree that this album is worse than "The Suburbs", but I don't think it's that great. It doesn't have the melancholic atmosphere of "The Suburbs". So the sound is there, in its pure, plain form. But not without special toppings though. This time, they put so much synth it turned into an '80s pop album. Not my vibe, I'm afraid.

Keep The Car Running is a good tune. My big thing with Arcade Fire is that I am not up for trying to parse their lyrics and dig into what they are trying to say. There is a fair amount of depth in their instrumentation. Honestly, this album seems like some great elaborate attack that completely missed me.
