Reviews (page 12 of 13)
Pretty boring - kind of gloomy, not melodic enough to suit my tastes, and the singer has quite a whiny voice. But not actively bad
Really not my taste
..
I finished it but would not return
Groupe inconnu. =>2/5
Not a big fan.
Christians have a hard time getting people to read the Holy Bible because it's deemed as "boring", but the Neon Bible isn't much more exciting. Arcade Fire's "Funeral" album has a little magic to it, and was much more exciting; this one deflates that. Maybe that was their Funeral. Favorite Song: "Keep The Car Running"
This is a band I really didn’t care for when they first came out. Trying to keep an open mind here. The first track is kinda cool. Second one not so much. From there it’s very meh. Like a pretentious Bruce Springsteen. The last track is closer to Neil Young and is probably the best tune.
my favourite of theirs, quite varied.
I can understand why Arcade Fire's Funeral is on this list. Neon Bible however the band's play on their faith and struggles with it falls flat and doesn't help convince a listener that this is a must-listen album. 2.5/5.
It was okay.
Drony whiny indie garbage
I just cannot get into Arcade Fire. I'm not sure why. I listened to this album three times and didn't save one song. It's a bummer, I want to like them!
Over. Rated.
The first Arcade Fire album on this list was pretty good and entertaining... This wasn't... 2/5
Bleh
It's fine. It's okay. I keep thinking it sounds like a bunch of older stuff, but I can't quite put my finger on who it is they're trying to sound like. Maybe it's everyone, they want to be all previous popular bands so are throwing everything at it in the hope something sticks. I get why some would really like this, but it sounds like a cheap copy of a copy of a copy.
Pas ma cam
I know the name, I am familiar with a few of their songs, but I've never understood the hype around them, so I welcomed the opportunity to listen to an entire album that's considered essential. I like the opening track, "Black Mirror", "Keep The Car Running" feels familiar and sounds like a Springsteen penned song, didn't care for "Intervention" at all. It wasn't long before I was bored. His voice does nothing for me (he wouldn't last long on the cruise ship) it doesn't make me want to keep listening and I'm at a loss for why they're popular. They feel like that band everyone tells you you need to love, but they can't explain why. Not Top 1001 for me, I don't feel it's that solid, it has no anchor songs & I can't imagine it's influential cause all I hear are other bands in their songs (Springsteen, Talking Heads, The Killers, Chris Isaak). Not worthy, but thanks for confirming what I already thought.
some of it is good, it's just like. Some of it gives fl and it feels like i was listening to the x ambassadors at times. guy has a really nice voice, but I don't think I'll ever wanna listen again. title track good
I don’t think it’s possible to make an album more forgettable than this. Music For Airports was more attention grabbing. Listening to this at times felt like listening to a bad Bruce Springsteen tribute act who for some reason refused to play any of the hits. The sound quality on this was also awful for an album recorded in the 2000s. Perhaps there’s a reason albums are generally recorded in studios and not churches. Honestly, literally nothing about this was interesting; It’s not even bad enough to merit a 1.
Nothing really stood out for me. I do like the album cover though
Exceptionally mid. Chris hit the nail on the head saying it was too boring to be worthy of a 1.
It's my sort of music, but I never liked Arcade Fire. And this hasn't changed my opinion. Not sure why I don't like it.
Eh, I don’t get it. Samey music that just sounds sad or bored.
honestly not too bad, was okay. Higher 2 I’d say.
Neon Bible, like all Arcade Fire, just ain't for me. Not a sound I appreciate or enjoy, I get a sense of the atmosphere and performance they're trying to get across, but it bores the shit out of me. A 2 based on that, they've never ever been my thing.
Aika lame, 2007 vuoden levy enkä oikeen ymmärtäny mitä uutta/erikoista toi musaskeneen
Gave it a shot but arcade fire just isn't for me. Just seemed very monotonous. Low 2.
Another pretentious indie folk rock album
Some songs were decent, some dragged out a bit long. A mixed bag but not many I'd listen to again. I didn't mind listening to it though. Highlights: Keep the Car Running The Well and the Lighthouse
3 - Some tracks hit: Cemetry Gates, I know It's Over, second half of There Is a Light That Never Goes Out. Despite this, many are very forgettable or just mid. The harsh transitions between tracks can be jarring. I was mostly impressed that the album kept me mostly engaged throughout the run. It definitely benefits from being a short listen.
Maybe it's because of how ubiquitous it was , maybe it's the lead vocals, or maybe it's the sound mixing, but something didn't chime with me. Feels like a parody of everything people are known not to like about 2000s indie.
Felt very meh, almost like background music designed not to be noticed
Don’t remember much. Seemed ordinary.
Couldn't get into it. Just didn't care about any of it
They could have done with sneaking a few bottles of wine into the studio. Interesting, but too sombre for me. I could hear some good influences, from singer-songwriter right through to New Order, but they all came out badly in the mix. The Killers did it better; this is too intense and misses the fun.
Arcade Fire - another of those bands people rave about but I don't get and couldn’t even name a track. Still don’t get.
Overrated
Was not excited to listen to this in the slightest. I gave it a shot and it lived up to my expectations. All around a boring listen. Sure it is well produced and uses a lot of organ, but it's so whiny and boring in its compositions.
Hipster nonsense. It has a few decent spots but I'll never get the hype around this band.
No idea. Seems very bland to me. Yes it has an original dramatic quality to it but never seems to pick up any real pace. It's not as epic as it thinks it is. Also, like the similarly incomprehensibly successful The Killers he sings like a third rate Meatloaf, and I don't like Meatloaf either. I think you had to be there or something.
Not bad, per se, but a total snooze.
Definitely went into this fairly Arcade Fire neutral, but even then was surprised by how unmoved I was by this. Wish it did more for me! Oh well!
Liked it more than i remembered but i do not really enjoy these guys and their weirdo concept
Saved a few tunes
Ok, not my personal taste.
Not really my thing..
Boring and generic.
3/10
Every song sounds exactly the same except for whether it's a man or woman singing. There's having a cohesive sound on an album and there's being repetitive. If you like once Arcade Fire song, you probably like them all.
Boring, weak vocals so drained our by the music.
These guys like Springsteen, hm? A tad pretentious, and thinks it's much more interesting it actually is. I'd give 'em a 2.5 if I could but I'll round down because Win Butler is such an ass.
Ganska tråkigt. Hann bara lyssna en gång. Kanske hade varit bättre annars.
Another one that doesn’t do it for me. I appreciate the person who put together this website but I question who originally put together the thousand and one best albums to listen to. I sure would like a different list. I’m disappointed for more often not, and I have such a wide appreciation for music. 2
Aggressively mediocre. All the non-singles sound the same.
Meh
Did not enjoy
This sounds like something that most people like because it was what they listened to when they were younger, like 17 or 22, not because it’s terribly good. And even then I have a hunch they mainly listened to it because it was “indie,” so it made them cool to be included in that scene. Now I assume the appeal here is nostalgia, because try as I might I can’t find anything of interest here.
All sounds the same
booo
- felt like it had potential but it was never realized
I couldn't get into this at all. Sounded like a bunch of moody teenagers. Made it all the way through though, so it gets 2 stars.
Not a favorite.
mid downloaded one song
Not for me
If this is the birth of Indie Rock, I am glad it didn’t end here.
Such a boring band but I have this theory that if I was 13 years old when I first heard them I would have loved them. But yes, boring. Apart from No Cars Go, which is a really good song.
Fine. Just fine. Nothing that blew my hair back. My Body Is A Cage is a favorite, there's really nothing else from this album I enjoyed.
Such a step down from Funeral.
something about Arcade Fire really bothers me. Bores me even. I find it hard to be objective in this rating.
mind numbing did nothing for me.
Not good, not bad...
Early 2000s people would hate me. I don’t like Arcade Fire.
Reminded me a bit of The Killers, the vocals are a bit annoying, production quality was mixed. + for the use of a pipe organ, but - for the excessive use of it in Intervention. No Cars Go was the only thing that stood out for me.
Singers voice is miserable
all of the songs sounded the same
i never understood the appeal of arcade fire
Meh.
I remember being hyped into buying an Arcade Fire CD way back when. For some reason I didn't think they were great then, and it hasn't aged well for me. Ho-hum pretentious rock.
to be honest, i was kind of bored with this one.
This band just doesn’t go anywhere musically for me. I just wait for it to hit second gear and it rarely does. The lead singer guy is apparently a fucking creep, too.
boring
I didn't like this. I kind of zoned out through most of it to be honest, and now its done I can't remember a single track.
The crybaby bitch award goes to Neon Bible. I just can't dig the 80's hipster sound.
Altough they came from my town of Montréal i never listen to them and in indie rock in general to be honnest
could not get into it. its just okay. desperately need to relisten
1-Black Mirror I really love the sound of the occasional piano chords in the background in this song. The change to female vocals and then back to male vocals in the song is really well done, keeps the song fresh and not repetitive. 2-Keep The Car Running This song screams “walk of shame” to me, I can imagine coming home from the club and listening to this song, good song for the right circumstances. 3-Neon Bible Not my favourite so far in this album but is also a nice song for melancholy moods. 7- The Well and The Lighthouse This song feels like what a daydream is 8-(Antichrist Television Blues) This song really suits the lead’s voice, the guitar and drums really brings out the rock genre that suits the lead vocals. Not a huge fan of the subject matter/lyrics but has definitely trumped tracks 4,5,6 in this album. 10- No Cars Go The instrumental with the bass guitar at around ~2:10 and ~3:00 is a nice listen and really redeems the song for me, definitely one of my favourites from this album. 11-My Body Is A Cage Really grandiose instrumentals on this song, very theological. This is like if Radiohead were Christian, and it works super well. ——————————————————————— 4-Intervention Really didn’t like the heavy church elements in this song (orphan, bells) When the song picked up to chorus I started to like this song, but then I didn’t- it’s too “Whiney” for me, this is possibly due to the monotonous nature of the vocals in this track and how it feels like there is no “build up” or variety in the melody(?) 5- Black Wave/Bad Vibrations Song started off good, reminded me of the B-52s, but then it got too “Whiney” for me again 6-Ocean of Noise I would love this if I actually liked the lead singer’s voice. I like the background music but not his voice (I think his voice lacks personality and distinction.) 9- Windowsill Had to skip this song, I don’t like the first 2 minutes of it, after that when it picks up it does get better but I can’t add this song to my playlist if I can’t stand to hear the first two minutes. I don’t like the repetitive nature of the lyrics (“I don’t” x50) not my style. My Top 3: My Body is A Cage Black Mirror No Cars Go
--------------- Black Mirror Keep the Car Running Neon Bible Intervention Black Wave / Bad Vibrations Ocean of Noise The Well and the Lighthouse (Antichrist Television Blues) Windowsill No Cars Go My Body Is a Cage they r all not good. not horrible enough for 1 tho
Meh
Not my thing. But, can hear that they have good lyrics and a lot of musical talent. Felt like a grand project.
Not really my style, but I love My Body is a Cage.
#134. More hipster folk. Hurray... 2/5: boo
I wouldn't go as far as to say this outright sucks, but it's definitely not as good as I remember. The late 2000's indie sound is just not my favorite any more, it all sounds so radio ready and fabricated. Disingenuous is the word that comes to mind. That all being said, I dig the organ and strings on this album.
For me, I can't get past the vocalist. His sound is just not for me. I wanted to give them a chance and I remember waiting up to watch them on SNL. So I've tried!!
Got bored 5 songs in
It was better than I expected but I'm not a fan of this band
naja
Frans canadees...
I much prefer Funeral, their previous album. Overall I'd say around 25% of the album I thought was enjoyable, while the rest I thought was a little boring.
Still can't do indie stuff
Rich sound, overproduced and just felt noisier than it needed to be. Nothing too catchy either unfortunately. I wanted to like it, just didn't :(
indifference manifested
Meh.
Mehh
Blank, unemotional and a bit boring for me
Only listened to a few songs. It was not to my taste.
Couldn't finish it, not my cup of tea. Bland indie rock.
Lavish indie rock curtains obscuring an empty room
I know this is a huge album for a lot of people, but it does nothing for me.
It's ok nothing special
-Goth vibes. -Anyone of these songs could have been in the show Wednesday for the Dance episode. -Instruments drown out vocals on quite a bit of the songs. -Would not try to listen to this again. -Don’t hate it, just not my type of music.
not great
It was ok, not my favorite
Good album
rock/pop, 2007 -> 2
Esta guay pero no es mi estilo 💀
i like how one of the songs is used in saltburn (great movie). most of the songs were good for their time but not for me
Don’t like his voice. Not then, not now
I’d say I’m a fan of Indie rock so I was excited to get an indie rock album but I gotta say there was nothing memorable about this one. The first half of the album just dragged, and the way they used the organ as a continuous drone in at least half of the tracks really killed even the songs that otherwise wouldn’t have been so bad. Disappointing album.
I was all for this one after the perfectly-executed opening track, but the whole LP gradually became more and more gratuitous as it went on. Arcade Fire has always tended towards the bombastic, and it's clear they hadn't yet learned the tasteful moderation that would see 'The Suburbs' succeed. Way too much choir/organ-infused balladry in the middle that makes the whole album feel a bit bloated - cut the fat and this would be an excellent debut.
It's not that the music isn't good or listenable. It's that it all sounds the exact same. The singer knows exactly three notes and one tone. They use the same bass line and keyboard sound on every track. And the mix is the same on every single song. It's monotonous as hell.
1.81 average per track.
I really liked the Suburbs but this is mostly a miss. Annoying vocals but could be worse for 2007; Inoffensive.
Anyways, here’s wonder wall on a ukulele
i was lukewarm on this release
Not bad, a little try hard
Not really for me. Big Springsteen vibes if you're into that
Da e kje heilt for meg
Completely Unimpressionable
Was okay. Not super impressed by the music. 2.5/5 Probably wont listen again
I had Funeral on heavy rotation when it came out. I was so excited when they released Neon Bible. But it never grabbed me. It felt like a classic sophomore effort - the same sound, but the songs just weren't nearly as crafted as those on the debut. I hadn't listened to it for 20 years. And my opinion holds. Intervention is a great pop song. The rest of it sounds like angsty jam sessions.
sounds very ... 1970s? like, if i were busy smoking up in my girlfriend's parents' backyard while hawking my spraycan art on the street once or twice a month and never showering, i'd probably really dig it, man
It's alright? I'm not really into Arcade Fire
Not my typa shindig.
This album is for somebody, but this ain't for me.
Not really my jam. Somehow indie arena rock is just not a thing for me.
Couple of songs were g8 but overall not really my cup of tea
Very mid
Eh. Not my style honestly
didnt really interest me
in the mid 2000s america stopped producing good bands and gave us two bob phantom of the opera tribute acts. at best it sounds like a haunted hipster carnival/circus
It’s a different animal to ‘Funeral’, but this album walked so ‘The Suburbs’ could run…
It was alright, very over the top sounding. It wasn't very memorable, I've heard a few Arcade Fire songs prior to listening to this album, they were better than this. Maybe they got better over time?
Fun, energetic Album. Morning drive or commute worthy tunes.
Not a fan
Didn't suck, but was immediately forgettable.
Meh
it sounds too repetitive to me
here lies, l a u r a r i n t o u l born: folsom prison live died: elephant white stripes slain in action, valiantly battling terrible albums rest in peace i lay down my wreath and say a prayer. what point now is there in carrying on? the goofy bit that i like the sound of my own voice isnt so funny to me now that no one is actually listening. now im just a sad little boy listening to frank black on the bus all alone! an album that i only know through laura! who will forget such classic album reviews as: Elephant The White Stripes sososososso goddam boring 1 i could not have said it better myself! laura will be forever remembered as someone who used this platform for good - what it was actually made for; reviewing albums. i used it for recording manic episodes and finding revolutionary new ways to not have sex. shes in heaven now, making music that probably sounds like having ones head slammed into a concrete floor repeatedly, but in a cathartic and beautiful kind of way. god bless her and all who sail in her. amen
Bad
Sounds too much like the other albums. Hard to judge on our own merit.
Didn’t like this album-the sound of it isn’t for me, I think. The sound mix is muddy, leading to some songs having an odd dynamic between vocals and instrumental. Lyrically it’s pedestrian whining about life in a way that I find grating. These are personal reactions, musically the bad is quite competent and I can see why others would like it, which is why it is two stars not one.
Parit hitit sieltä tunnisti, ekaa kertaa varmaan kuuntelin albumin. Koitin kahesti kuunnella, mut ei kyl lähteny. 2/5.
It was like listening to nothing.
Can leave this more than I can take it.
After a brilliant debut album, this sophomore effort was a complete letdown. I've seen Arcade Fire 4 times and not once have they played a single song fro this album. Pretty much says all you need to know about it.
This was okay. A little on the slow side for me but there a tracks I can see myself playing again on occasion. 2
2/5 Best: No Cars Go Worst: Intervention
2.5
Very hot or miss, but mostly miss
so boring ngl not bad, but i’ll never listen to it again actually it was kinda bad
Love the music, hate the lyrics. Super hipster stuff. I enjoyed Intervention though.
Pretty good actually
Meh
I know this band is huge but I’ve never understood the appeal. This album felt like a boring soundtrack to a boring indie movie.
This has made next to no impression on me. Cannot get remotely excited about this
I don’t think I really care for arcade fire . I thought I would but it’s not really for me
Da e kje heilt for meg
Eh
Ehhh If you like pretentious, pompous, bland, boring, unimaginative, uncreative mediocre indie rock then you'll love it.
Very indie/punk. Not something I find on my own. Im not disliking it, but I haven’t heard a song that I want to listen to again.
Album 3 from Arcade Fire... and I think I kind of get it. Early on in this record, I mentally drew a comparison to U2's grandiosity. It's aiming for the cheap seats in the arena, and much like U2, I think it's all pomp and no circumstance, to turn a phrase. It's fine, and I appreciate the varied instrumentation on this record, but it's all just so... pretentious. Favorite tracks: "Black Wave / Bad Vibrations", "No Cars Go"
Had a really hard time caring about this one. As I listened, I kept wishing I was listening to other albums, including the first Arcade Fire joint, which is much better, IMO. More interesting. Better produced. So, this one: a whole lotta meh.
Bland indie band that sounded like nothing but also like mid 2000s bland indie bands. Sylvia and I gave this a go in a car ride while our conversation was engaging so maybe my focus was lacking? But we would come back to the music and chat about it during the listen and he looked forward to spinning Beyoncé after we powered through.
Some decent moments but overall not my thing
it's been a while since i've heard some of these overplayed singles. never really a fan of arcade fires schtick anyway so by the 3rd album i'm particularly bored of it.
Very boring and basic
Pretentious music
I have tried for years with this album and this band - I wish I could figure out or better-explain why it is I don't like this, or them. I tried again this morning and I wanted to dig something specific out but I just can't - I think there's a lot around the rotten and muddy mix* where I can't really hear the individual instruments very well, perhaps a great dose of the overly-faux-eager but not very good vocals that irritate me, or just that I don't connect with any of the songs whatsoever. I could see how one could make the case of this being this grandiose album but I hear it as utterly overblown and overwrought pablum. * (this mix feels like it's by design - a soundscape to perhaps give an effect or mood rather than focus on any particular part; frankly it sounds like there's a pillow over every microphone giving a "soft" feel to it all. If so, ok that's art of course - but to me it's terribly distracting and puts a dull cloud over it all. Not sure if I'd like it more with a clear distinct sound but it wouldn't hurt.) It's not ... horrible; I've heard a lot that I like considerably less, but it is a chore to get through. Flat-out I think this experiment can end without any grand proclamation, other than I just don't enjoy or like Arcade Fire. 3/10 2 stars.
Pomposity to the fore, rather than songwriting or melody. Only the mighty James Murphy made them sound interesting rather than just another dull as ass American Indie band moaning about something. Cannot understand how high a regard this is held in
cheesy americans
pass
I would go like 2.4. so if this arcade fire album is on here, how many others will there be?
Was not a fan
I was indifferent about this album. A few decent songs (No Cars Go, Ocean of Noise) peppered in with a bunch of otherwise forgettable filler tracks. Didn’t really care for the vocals. I read some other reviews of the album and it sounds like they put on a great live show, and there are apparently several other albums that are very highly touted. Maybe they’ll make me listen to another one, until then….
Eh. It is just there. Nothing great about it. I listened to it while grocery shopping so I guess it better than grocery store music. However, if one does not hear the grocery store music, how can one know that this album was better? No need to listen to this again.
Every time I hear an Arcade Fire album it makes me want to sit in my garage and “Keep the Car Running”
Wow, this was unexpectedly bland. I enjoyed the other two albums I got on here from these folks… this one is a serious sophomore slump if I’ve ever heard it. It felt like they were just going through the motions of writing songs without any good ideas to put in them. It wasn’t entirely terrible to listen to, but I wouldn’t spin it again.
Woof. This one is very far from when I originally listened to it and enjoyed it. A couple of strong tracks, but pretty dreadful as a project.
This album sucks!
Arcade Fire fall at the center of a Venn diagram with many overlapping circles: "mediocre," "bland," "arrogant," "wearing their influences on their sleeves," "worshipping other mediocre artists." They really embodied a lot of the worst elements of mid-2000s indie rock scene. They didn't hit the lows of Foster the People or Mumford and Sons, but short of being industry plants like those garbage factories, they were pretty miserable. This is another album that has been scrubbed from my version of the list, so I don't know the authors' justification for including it, but judging from the entry they wrote about Funeral, it wouldn't be the sort of inspirational write-up that would make me reconsider my dismissal of this dreck. Listening to this is a chore.
Arcade Fire on paper is exactly who I want to listen to. However, this album sucks. I don't understand why it's in the list. The Suburbs is a thousand times better. The best song on here is My Body Is A Cage, and it wasn't even released as a single.
Found the whole album to be pretty bland and repetitive. It makes good background music. All in all, pretty forgettable. 2/5
Meh
Not a lot I am Viborg with but a few tracks are a solid v8be, somewhere in the range 9f how i felt about Talking Heads and PaulcCartney and Wings.
Never really understood the hype
Zeer monotoon, beetje war on drugs saaiheid.
Beetje lauwtjes allemaal.
Not really for me. Have tried them before and it hasn't clicked
Sapal.
This was a bit of a miss for me, just a bit flat. Which I wasn’t expecting from the Arcade fire. I really liked their earlier album.
they said among us in one of the songs not really my type. standout so far is keep the car running. will maybe listen to again to get a real feel for it. the well and the lighthouse is also good. overall it was kind of boring. reminded me of the killers but not as good.
I had heard of this group before but I couldn't name any of their songs. I was excited to check them out and the album got off to a decent start but I quickly lost interest and discovered that their music isn't my thing. I don't think that it is awful, just not my favorite type of music.
Music for basic white men bitches. I don't know, man. It just sounds like every single indie artist of the 2010's with that whiny forlorn, yet aloof "cool artist guy" sound. Meh.
Arcade Fire, One of my sons favourite bands, they are OK but don't see what the hype is about really. Pretty standard 2010's rock music here. I find it slightly repetitive and sub Talking Heads standard really. I liked "Keep The Car Running" Not on My List I am afraid
Didn't get much juice out of this lemon
Another winner for Arcade Fire. 2.5/5 first listen.
Vähä jotenki munaton vaikka moni mun kaveri bändiä diggaileekin
Notwist but a bit boring
I like a lot of these songs, separately. A little Arcade Fire goes a long way, and an entire album of their work can make you wish it was before the halfway point. The word "overblown" comes to mind.
Ogillade lyriken å musiken va boring
Känns själlöst, speciellt jämfört med deras första.
Meh. Overly dramatic and too much voice synth
meh, a lot of filler songs
I recognize a few of these songs, but I can't bring myself to care.
This is the worst era of indie rock
I had heard from friends that this band is good and after sitting through this album, I can confidently disagree.
Man, I just do not like arcade fire. There’s so much good in rock in the world, but this is not it. I could see an argument for including their first album “Funeral” but yikes. Not a fan.
pop demais, me lembrou imagine dragons. meio ruim mesmo.
I did not like this.
Pish! How do these albums keep making the list?!?!
I don't get it, i don't like this, it's very boring. And thanks to another reviewer the lead singer is trash.
Not for me
Not my type
J’ai pas accroché
I thought I would dislike the music. It doesn't bother me. Sounds like some standard ole pop rock flair. The vocals, again - my issue with "indy" music is it -to me- feels like its terrible vocals, but they want to make music, so they lean into the terrible quality of the vocals. Then a bunch of people like those terrible sounding vocals to be "unique" or "artistic" or "different" than everyone else who likes music. This isn't nearly as bad as some other indy stuff, and produced well. But this type of music with this kind of vocals is just not something I am into nor enjoy.
no es mi estilo…
These guys again?
Did not enjoy this at all.
Hot garbanzo garbage
Not my cup of tea at all, intently, wannabe artsy, fuck off arcade fire. Giving this one star is way too much.
why is this app shoving arcade fire up my throat???
Didn’t like this at all. God knows why I’m having to endure a second Arcade Fire album. I wanted to give this a two, and point out that everything is done competently but the longer it went on the more it infuriated me. For me, it’s insulting that this is placed on the list next to some records that are in different leagues. I’m sure that can be said about a lot of albums here too. Maybe I’m just not receptive to it today, but I’ve got to be honest with myself and in approaching this list.
Bad, very bad. Just not good at all.
Not really into this, pretty watered down Christain rock it feels like.
Alright, for the quantity of times I see them in festivals here in Brazil, I knew it would be either very ok or very pretentious. It's the second option. This is a big what if Florence + the Machine wasn't a good vocalist and lyric genius with identity. Seriously, it's good baroque pop, but with a weak singer and bland lyrics, and the vibe is a bit weird for some reason. Apparently it's supposed to be inspired by some big names according to Wikipedia... Is Dylan, Elvis or Springsteen with us in this work? I can't see. Win Butler said he "watched a lot of TV preachers, get-rich-quick schemes on YouTube." Like buddy, believe me, you could explore this serious problem of greedy exploitation of faith in better terms. This is not as good as it could be. I wish a better songwriter would challenge themselves with this theme. I give it a 1 for imagining Florence doing this theme.
I do not like this. At all. Why is this even on the list? At least The Black Album rocks.
Time to close the arcade.
I don't mind the actual music! For 'my body is a cage' the sound is actually very enticing. But jesus christ I hate the singer's voice and the lyrics is so repetitive and grumpy.
really couldn't vibe with this. the organ, the vocals. this indy 2000s stuff just isnt for me. it's atmospheric and melancholic but i need some energy or i guess something more interesting for me personally. i could see and know ppl into this but i can't get past some of the fundamental elements of this soundscape 1/5
Uninteresting and monotonous.
I didn’t hate all of it
Hated.Boring and annoying.
Nope. Creep.
Ridiculously boring.
nah. I understand a lot of people like these guys. I am not one of them. Their LP, "Funeral" was ok. I simply find nothing redeeming in their work.
You can clearly tell the band would end up where they have recently, musically speaking. In hindsight, it's mostly indie-pop slop with a lot of pseudo-intellectualism and sometimes overbearing noise and sonic elements that make the production value very weird to me. To address the big (pink) elephant in the room, it's impossible not to feel that it is disingenuous the way the band portrays its sound and themes, knowing what we know today about its lead singer. Oh, and by the way, I'm gonna die before I listen to any more of Win Butler singing.
1.9
pre one direction o david bowie chafa
The instrumentals on this album are mainly used to fill in the sound instead of driving the songs forward. This combined with the weak vocals make the album an absolute slog to get through.
Out of the 3 Arcade Fire albums I’ve listen to so far this one is the worst, and it actually makes me mad. I know that with 1001 albums on this list sone of them will be bad, but it seems like filler like this makes up half the list.
i didnt really hear anything special
Tremendamente malo.
previously only listened to my body is a cage on this album - so far do not like the first song "black mirror"- It is a bit too alternative for me. - this album is sooo boring I actually cannot. - its giving men with man buns and beards that open a burger shop.
Zzzzz
kom knappt igenom första låten, så otroligt tråkig
millenial core
I understand why people compare this band to U2. They both have no soul.
Horrible
Did not understand the arcade fire hype then and do not understand it now.
what kind of sick joke is it to listen to two arcade fire joints in one week? cmon dude
Nah not for me. Woke indie shit 0/10
Muddy and to self serious
This was crap
Boring as sin
Not in my wheelhouse.
This sht is ahh. A lot of the good reviews on this seem to be blinded by nostalgia. This sounds like the imagine dragons of whatever genre this is supposed to be.
sounds like a band that would have a dorky dress code on their tour
A real stinker. Self-serious dumb guy poetry to the highest degree. Chamber pop adjacent sound (already a hard sell) without any sense of humour or playfulness. Awful stuff, get outta here.
Not a fan
Meh Heard this one before seen them in concert Underwhelming before all the allegations against the singer, didn’t bother listening to again
Not for me
Fer fex sake, this is going to be awful and it was.
TS was mid
0/5. Mehhh!
worthless
Listened several times to this album. I wanted to hear something redeeming. But it just never clicked. There were some good riffs, but nothing great. It's a pass for me.
They have better songs. But the lead singer is cancelled now, right?
garbage
uhhhhh ok wakaflocka.gif
Not A Fan...Not my style of Music
Definitely my vibe, but something seems off about it. Like an amateur who has had no training in lyric writing and draws "inspiration" by copy/pasting from other songs and smashing them together. The music and vocals don't take their time. Every song feels rushed and improved.
"Neon Bible" is a confusing choice for one of the 1001 essential albums. Arcade Fire may have been early to the scene for indie rock, but when I think of indie rock classics, Arcade Fire does not even cross my mind. The songs feel the same, the instruments are distant, and overall I was waiting for this album to end.
Neon Bible is what I call "approximately". It is approximately pop, it is approximately rock, it is approximately indie. I can approximately understand what they're saying. It approximately sounds okay. I didn't know what to expect from Arcade Fire and they delivered nothing. The Well and the Lighthouse was nails on a chalkboard.
Don't get it.
