Reviews (page 11 of 13)
Another album that stads as a time capsule of that period. A classic psychedelic rock album that held my attention from beginning to the end. I was familiar with 'Sunshine Of Your Love' going into the album but no other tracks were familiar. Aside from that track nothingbreallybstood out to me. Maybe that is just my narrow way of listening to these albums, assuming the more tracks I know are what elevate it.
Typical 60s bluesy pop.
On the one hand you have Strange Brew, Sunshine Of Your Love and the best song of the album: Tales Of Brave Ulysses. On the other hand you have Blue Condition and Take It Back which both really shouldn't be on the album. Mother's Lament I can take as a funny, if somewhat discordant ending. And every music lover knows the Bruce, Baker and Clapton story of Cream. But this, to me, is an ok blues-inspired psychedelic rock-album. With hits and misses.
Solid mid-sixties blues rock. Not my thing, but very listenable.
Enjoyed this until the Cockney knees up at the end!
Some great tracks and some that dont up to time.
ehhh pretty decent, old stuff, all songs are a bit similar, but could find something interesting
i liked a few of the songs
fav track: World of Pain
Its good and i like the big hits - but the sound isnt dense enough for me.
The British impulse to include a nursery rhyme or drinking song in every guitar-driven album.
Strong A side - meh B side.
3, enjoyed this
Genre: Psychedelic Rock 3/5 As endemic as Clapton was to the late 60s and early 70s, and as talented as he might be with a guitar, his music has never reached my ears as strongly as his music has hit some others. Cream, his most successful musical venture amongst a group of short-lived projects he was a part of, released a few classic singles and some decent albums in their tenure. Disraeli Gears, their 2nd album as a trio, is decent, but it's pretty god damn boring considering the god-like status Clapton has attained. Sunshine of Your Love, a massive rock single that still receives airplay to this day, is the song which overshadows the rest of the stale blues ripoffs in the tracklist here, but even in this instance Clapton's attempts at singing are not good or bluesy. Just dull and boring. The arrangements aren't too interesting, and the production is fairly muddled, but overall this album isn't offensive or grating to the ears. Just a bit bland. Anything with Clapton's name on it is bound to receive praise, but it's seemingly blinded some listeners into believing that what they're hearing is beyond reproach. To those people: listen to Bo Diddley or Fats Domino, the actual men who made blues rock what it is today. Clapton, like Dylan, is a phony. He can play guitar pretty good, though.
Shame Clapton is such a massive wanker, but the album is pretty good.
Tracks are short and some are pretty catchy. Although all members are technically proficient at their respective instruments, the music never devolves into self-indulgent show-offy stuff. -Favorites: Sunshine of Your Love, Strange Brew, Tales of Brave Ulysses, Dance The Night Away -Okayish filler - Tracks 5, 7 - 9 -Bad filler: Tracks 10, 11 Overall good album, but not really mindblowing.
Solid and I really like the hits but wasn't a fan of all of it. Still an iconic group and Sunshine of your love is obviously a banger
In their two years together, Cream attained legendary status and secured a legacy as one of the greatest supergroups in popular music. “Disraeli Gears” is one of their potent blends of psychedelia, hard rock and blues which would influence so many bands of the 70s and beyond (“Sunshine of Your Love”, in turn inspired by Hendrix, was one of the first songs I learnt on guitar about 40 years after its release). There's so much to say about the band and their songs, but one of the key elements here is the production. From the rumbling thunder of Baker’s toms to the fuzz tone of Clapton’s guitar, everything is centred on the low-end for a cloudy, hazy feel. Bruce’s vocals- surprisingly wispy and delicate- cut through the mix well, employing an ethereal falsetto in tracks like “World of Pain”. It's a startling atmosphere, but for such a legendary band with such a short tenure and so few albums, there’s a surprising amount of mediocre (or at least filler) material here. “Blue Condition”, “Outside Woman Blues” and “Take It Back” both have the feel of average blues tracks without much bite or vision. The musicianship is great, but it’s only in service of (by any other standard) average songs. To cap things off, “Mother’s Lament” is a strange diversion into music hall for the album’s finale: it is jarringly out of place, but credit to them for trying something different. The forays into psychedelia (like “Sunshine of Your Love” and “Tales of Brave Ulysses”) are my favourites here, and when “Strange Brew” combines a standard blues progression with an instantly hooky melody and intangible lyrics, it's a real winner. So it's patchy and uneven, sure... but what a trio Cream were. Ginger Baker’s rippling, elaborate drum parts betraying a lifelong interest in jazz, Bruce's basslines forming the anchor, and Clapton’s guitar playing in its bluesy prime. They paved the way for a new wave of hard rock bands reaching beyond the blues, and that can't be understated.
Three or four stand out tracks and a couple of other decent ones. Want to give it 3 1/2 stars really.
more like 3.5 then 3
I was honestly going to give this a chance even though I fucking hate Eric Clapton. It starts out pretty good with Strange Brew and Sunshine of your love, but nothing else on the album really pops.
Beware of Mr Baker!
3/5
It's hard to get past all the current Eric Clapton baggage. Or the baggage of every ex-hippie/hippie wannabe talking to me incessantly about this band for the last 20 years. The best i can say at this point, this is a pretty standard rock album. The songs you recognize are as good as you remember them being.
A lot more enjoyable than much of the pop rock from the same era. A bit bluesier, grittier, heavier.
I think it was pretty good, but it kinda fell out of my memory after I listened? Maybe one to come back to but it didn't have the sticking power I expected.
Something in the back of my mind thought there was something familiar with the band Cream, but couldn't put my finger on it. Then I heard the second track off the album and the bell went off. Overall Disraeli Gears is an wonderful and eclectic mix of pulling away from blues rock and diving headfirst into psychedelic rock. A lot of the tracks don't really make much sense lyrically and fit exactly in the psych era. Best: Sunshine of Your Love Worst: Blue Condition 3.5 Stars
Starts with a couple classics then fades into the background and stays there.
26 January 2022 Listened on my phone in the early afternoon of the 27th as I totally forgot about this on the 26th. Poker at dans in the evening after Sav’s birthday last night at flight club. Love the bluesy elements of this and obviously ginger baker’s drumming. Psychedelia, whimsy and rocking blues. 3.5 if I could.
The issue here is Eric Clapton being a lunatic. It does make you hear ‘Sunshine of your love’ and wonder what the hell happened to him during the intervening years. This is- musically- a brilliant album but my enjoyment of it was hampered by Eric’s views that the planet has been hypnotised into getting vaccinated.
First two songs off this album are classic hits played by our local radio station, KSHE95, so know them well. Rest of the album was pretty good, but nothing stood out to me.
Meh. Songs I knew sounded about like I recalled. "Tales of Brave Ulysses" remains the best. Songs I didn't know were okay, a few piquing interest.
The reason punk was needed. Ok, harmless, but does nothing for me.
Perfectly acceptable listening! Fav new track: Mother's Lament - my mum used to sing this to me in the bath, had no idea it was a real song!!
Álbum que contiene una de las mayores piezas del rock/blues de todos los tiempos. Lejos de eso, cae un poco en lo repetitivo de sus canciones. Para mi gusto es un 3/5
Ok
Some heavy hitters and them some heavy snoozers
3.5, it had potential but ended up on 'sunshine' glory
6/10
Legendary group with iconic guitar playing. But the songs themselves don’t really offer much over 50 years later. The great riffs and licks and amazing musicianship are the selling point overall.
Wanted to like this better with except for great guitar work it's a pretty unremarkable album
Solid album until the final track, which sent it off with a whimper, not a bang.
Really enjoyed that.
Liked it. Super hippy 60's vibe. Wouldn't listen to it much, but wouldn't change most of it if it came on.
A simmering proto-psychedelic LP that blends more than a few genres into a rocking, cohesive whole. Has a surprisingly modern feel to it - some tracks reminded me of bluesier QotSA songs even.
This was alright, nothing amazing nothing terrible.
First two tracks, wow! This album is a solid childhood memory, my parents had thw record.
Very 60s psychedelic which obviously look at the album art. I am vibing with this one for sure. Sunshine of your love makes me feel cool when I listen to it
Dobar album 60ih, valjalo bi se još koji puta vratiti na album.
Solidan, očekivo sam više.
This album brings up the age old question of how many great songs does it take to claim the entire album is great? This has at least 3 with SWLABR being the best despite Sunshine being the most famous. Clapton is naturally on point here.
Some stand out songs e.g. Outside woman blues, take it back, but overall didn't gel with it - bit too straight sometimes, wanted a bit more groove, also dorky English vibes a bit off putting.
Didn't really do much for me. "Strange Brew" and "Sunshine Of Your Love" and "Tales of Brave Ulysses" are worth listening to but the rest of the album doesn't have much appeal. It's an attempt at psychedelic rock that might have been ground-breaking at some point but I don't think it has held up well.
Solid
Eh.
Not their best album. I really like the live stuff and Ginger Baker is a man on a mission!
NICE 60´S, FAMOUS ONE
Cute but not especially memorable
6/10. Not especially memorable, though Strange Brew at least fits the Halloween season
After the first two songs of this album, I started to get the feeling that this was another album with like two good songs then 80% filler. While this wasn’t completely true, I still didn’t get much out of this album other than some pretty cool guitars. Fav songs: strange brew, sunshine of your love
A couple of classics but not amazing overall
i didn't cream my pants listening to it >:(
Not bad but also somewhat boring. Wouldn't mind on the background though.
This album contains some bangers (strange brew, sunshine of your love), some good songs (tales of brave Ulysses, SWLABR), some ok songs (outside woman blues, take it back), and some meh songs (the rest). All in all it adds up to about a 3-3.5. Will round down because Clapton's a dick.
Brings back memories, but I think has dated a bit
3.5/5 Good music, pretty groovy, but not something I'd be in the mood for all of the time
obviously i loved sunshine of my love and the Ulysses song, but other than that nothing was memorable. one of the songs sounds like literally micky mouse. i didn’t hate it, i liked the beats overall and the music but other than those two songs nothing stuck
A little boring. But sunshine of your love is sooo iconic. Shit I fell asleep. Mothers Lament is so great though, it woke me right back up. 3.5/5
Not bad. Some classic Cream songs on here.
Lot of similar sounding songs, but I knew the one hit!
Fine. More filler than I remembered and the good songs are definitely overplayed.
Good. It sounds like a lot of other psych-rock from that time, which is not a bad thing. However, songs between the highlights become forgettable.
Expected better from some of the greatest rock musicians ever assembled.
A very easy listen.
Good album with a few poor songs
The albums good. But you have to separate it from Clapton as a person - since he’s a huge terrible racist.
Only ever heard 2 songs before. Some great playing but not much else stood out on the album
More classic rock aka dad rock. Psychedelic Rock & Blues. Sunshine of your Love is classic and actually I quite like it, like the blues influence. Many a teenager with their first electric guitar learned this riff. Always thought it was Hendrix. Has a Beatles sound (World of Pain, Blue Condition), and lots of psychedelic rock (dance the night away, Ulysses) Don't like the raw/dry 60s drum production sound. This challenge has had me listen more actively to all the classic rock I would instantly dismiss and not be able to distinguish. So yeah maybe now I can hear the difference between Clapton and Hendrix, but I still don't like it. Gave it a bump to 3 just cos of Sunshine of your Love, but otherwise would firmly be a 2.
Rather enjoyed this. Hadn't heard them before.
So it definitely has the late 60s psychedelic and drug influenced vibe. Kinda meh overall. One really well know song.
Not bad, probably very good at the time.
Top 3 1. (2) Sunshine Of Your Love 2. (10) Take It Back 3. (7) SWLABR
Rock! Psykadelia! Distade gitarrer! Allt är right up my alley. Genomgående bra, men tappar lite i de mer bluesiga låtarna. När det psykadeliska får ta över låter det bäst! Bästa låt: Så klart svårt att bortse från Sunshine Of Your Love. Men We're Going Wrong får mig att sväva iväg. Även Tales Of Brave Ulysses bör nämnas
this was weird i anticipated an album of songs similar to the rock blues of sunshine. bit of a let down
Good but not to my liking
It's a classic, and I respect that about it. However, it's not super my speed. But that doesn't mean it's bad. I would recommend to anyone who likes Rock n Roll.
interesting british blues
Good but probably better back in the day.
Mothers lament was weird haha. Mostly good stuff though.
Listened 5/5/2021
First time listening: 8/11 songs liked lolllll that last song, so random compared to the rest. Well, it's a solid blues album, you see the beginnings of Eric Clapton becoming to himself through these songs. The blues aren't too much of my taste, but it gets the job done. One song saved
Not too bad, not great either though. Passable background album at best, certainly not one I’ll rush back to.
Sounds as dated as the cover art looks, but Sunshine still cuts it
Psychedelic and heavy.
6/10
Favourite Songs: Sunshine of Your Love & Tales of Brave Ulysses
Listened a few times and it gets better and better. Will continue to revisit
3-3.5/5 nice guitar
Probably worth a second listen
Cool psych. Less bluesy than the one before it, but still very bluesy, thanks to good ol Eric. All songs are very short. No jams. Lots of fade outs. Very English. Very 1967, Great record. Confession: I've never really been a Clapton fan. I don't understand why the English tagged walls with "Clapton is God" back in the heyday. Maybe it was satirical proto-Banksy move. I've never heard much character or personality in his guitar playing, or seen much character in him as a person. He's like the shy, reclusive guy that doesn't take too many risks or put himself out there, but somehow is a magnet for attractive women because it plays to some fundamental desire to "cure" him. (This is a tangent that's been a hangup for me since puberty, probably because it contradicts the effort=reward maxim I was taught at an early age. It's unfair for me to project this onto Eric, and all that Eric has contributed to the genre of rock from it's 50s roots to it's end circa 2009). I think the best thing Eric's ever done is that acoustic album from the 90s with Tears In Heaven and that coffee-shop version of Layla. B
Got a decent boner for Cream. Great psych jams. Lots of fadeouts though that I know will drive Matt up the fuckin wall. 4 stars? 3 stars? I think 3.
I had high hopes but was let down by this LP. Perhaps the 1001 algorithm sent us a little too much Psychedelic music lately. The first two tunes, which were the singles, are enjoyable as are the blues tunes Outside Woman Blues and Take it Back. The six song Psychedelic midsection didn't really work for me. Mother's Lament is a fun way to end the LP. It sounds like a good dose of British humour mixed with a few too many pints. As young Englishmen, they must have had fun making their accents sound like their grandparents did when they got home from the Pub on a Friday night. It sure sounds like Iron Butterfly "borrowed" the opening riff from Sunshine of Your Love and plopped it in In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida. Is it just me?
Very cool immersive psychedelic rock, not sure if it's my headphones but would prefer a remastered one as the production could do with more clarity. Importantly, something about the way this music is written feels quite intimate, like it's in a bar. I think it's just quite an exposed style of music, that doesn't throw too much at you at once. Favourite was Tales of Brave Ulysses.
Fair blues rock, that last song sucks and ruins what had been going on. they must've been whacked out of their minds at the time. Sunshine of Your Love was the only real highlight though
looks and smells like the album cover. goes from gritty psychedelic rock to folksy towards the end
Strange Brew and Sunshine are huge at the start. Both are great tracks, most of the rest of the songs were good to fine. Probably a 3.5 that I am rounding down
Great opening track: "Strange Brew"
Cool album with a great stand out track
Buenos ritmos. No destaca especialmente
I've probably heard "the Tale of Brave Ulysses" a million times. Never actually knew that was the name of the song.
I didn't realize that Cream was regarded as the World's first Super group given its all-star line up: Eric Clapton, Ginger Baker and Jack Bruce. That much talent and ego usually means that they self-destruct and true to form Cream didn't last too long. There are some real classics on this album so it gets a solid 7/10
Never heard an entire cream album, just radio singles. I can see how this would have opened a lot of eyes. Drums are HEAVY! I get some proto-metal vibes.
Turned out to be much better than I was expecting
G
Good rock. Plain and simple
Very interesting old blues record - shows the evolution clearly of British rockers taking blues and making it something else. Several very good songs, the rest was solid, but forgettable. Fun facts about them being the first supergroup though! Wild
3
Decent album. Too old for my taste but has its gems.
Favorite Songs: Sunshine of Your Love, Tales of Brave Ulysses, Outside Woman Blues, Mother's Lament
Had je bij moeten zijn denk ik
De bons titres d'autres sans plus.
It's Cream!
Not my style much. Start was good then fell off
eh okay
There are some undeniable songs and a great rhythm section but I believe Cream are one of the more overrated “great” bands. #TeamGinger
Creamy!
Meh. Apart from the two most memorable songs, again a pretty generic rock album.
Enjoyed it, makes me want to listen to more cream. Sunshine of Your Love is a classic and my dad would always try to play the opening riff on guitar and this was the first time in a while I actually heard the song. Didn't think it was stellar, but I enjoyed the mixing, otherwise thought it was pretty standard, probably won't revisit but enjoyed my time with it, 5/8.
Interesting album to listen to.
This album has some really great moments, but they tend to be interspersed with a lot of mundane psychedelic music. It could be that this album sounded a lot different when it first came out, but a lot of it sounds a bit dull. The vocals tend to be the least interesting part on a lot of these songs, and I think the album could have been improved with some instrumental tracks, or at least longer instrumental sections. 3/5
Good early metal album the diction is clear some of the songs a bit meh but a few great ones.
Ihan jeekkis levy
Klassikkokamaa, mut ei sieltä parhaimmasta päästä kuitenkaan.
1967. Key Songs: Sunshine Of Your Love, World Of Pain
Never heard this but it's one of those bands I "should have heard already". All I really know is that it's Eric Clapton. So far seems pretty cool, nice and bluesy but with that kinda 60s psychedelic touch. I didn't know sunshine of your love was these guys. Mad hippie shit hey. I dunno, this is another one that is just too tied to a specific time - almost 20 years before I was born - for me to really judge it. It's not awful, to be fair. 3/5. Would go well on weed I guess? haha.
Good, but not amazing. Love the famous woman tone on the SG and generally the musicianship is top notch. Minus one star for the final track.
lakas makadowners neto
Overrated
meh. it's alright
Even this era of psych blues rock, disraeli gears is one mediocre overpraised album. Many of the songs feel written and tracked in a drunken manner. Clapton’s playing is only memorable by the repetitive wah usage. 2.5 stars
2,5/5 Estoy confusa con la nota...... Me ha gustado pero tampoco me encanta, y comparándolo con Wheels of fire, me ha gustado mucho más el otro, así que redondeo hacia abajo esta vez. Muy guays Tales of brave Ulysses y Take it back, pero el resto simplemente correctas.
Even Bruce and Baker can’t save Clapton for me.
I wasn’t very inspired by this. only just finished but I couldn’t really tell you anything about it
Maybe I was born too late or I’m too sober, but this album does nothing for me. Add Cream to the unfortunate list of people who are better musicians than they are songwriters.
I like this period, but I found this album fairly boring. There's basically nothing here that distinguishes Cream from other psych/blues outfits. Their best song ("White Room") shows the kind of sinister, delirious potential they have -- but it's not on this record. Just average white guy blues.
So, on this one in general, I am getting mixed feelings. I like psychedelic rock, I like blues rock, I like the intent here. I appreciate Clapton's guitar and vocal chops, especially considering the contemporaries of the time. However, I don't like Clapton personally. That's not a part of this, though. Someone else stated exactly how I felt about this record. It is a cut of 11 songs at 33 minutes, which is relatively short. However, this one feels a lot longer. I don't know if every song just sounds the same, and I get lost where one ends, and another begins, or if it's like "Hey, it's Sunshine Of Your Love," and the rest is just kind of there.
I guess I'm jaded. English guys doing the blues is a bore. There were some cool elements, but I find it trying, to find enjoyment
its worth one listen but i wont listen again
Normalito. No se si lo volvería a escuchar
Mixing blues with the psychedelica that was taking the world by storm, Cream's sophomore record feels like a product of its time. Cream's brand of blues is a prime example of white artists taking a black artform and sucking the life out of it. Vocalist Jack Bruce sounds so uninspired and bored. Thankfully Eric Clapton is a more serviceable frontman when he takes the lead on "Strange Brew" and helps out on other songs. Clapton's guitar playing isn't as impressive as his reputation would lead me to believe. I don't hear many people talk about this band as much as other classic rock bands of this era and I think there's a reason for that. I can see why this hit the way it did in 1967, but it doesn't feel like an essential listen nowadays. This style of hard rock became redundant as soon as Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin hit the scene.
Sunshine of your love
Algún destello pop interesante, pero ya volcados sobre ese rock/blues malhumorado que empieza a imponerse.
In 1967 Cream dared to ask the question: “what if the Beatles were just okay?” Luckily they also gave us the answer so we don’t have to wonder about it anymore.
Boring. And fuck Eric Clapton.
Hey look, the album is fine. Sunshine of Your Love is here and everyone loves it, sure great great great. World of Pain sounds pretty cool in the chorus. Outside Woman Blues was set up by this circumstance to be limp, but actually turned out alright. I like this album well enough, honestly. But I AM getting kinda really sick of so much of the 60s classic rock soundscape. It's cool, p important in the history of music all over the globe and all. At least the western world. I get why a lot of it is here. But gee, can we have a little bit less? If I had known that ~half this list would be that same 10 years of mystic dude rock and roll, I probably would have skipped it. Maybe 1001 is too many overall. edit: forgot Clapton is in this band. Hmm. I'm hesitant to knock one off cuz I gave it a 3 before remembering that... but I guess I gave Skynyrd a 1 cuz fuck Skynyrd. And fuck Clapton. So I guess I'm doin it.
Does the Bluesy Dad Rock thing of having two great songs amidst a sea of self indulgent noodling. Not as bad as Creedence though.
Sunshine of Your Love is it's only real saving grace, personally (Thank you Guitar Hero)
More shite blues rock. This is no better than anything else in that genre so far. In particular ‘blue condition’ was a masterpiece in drudgery - plodding drums, crap lyrics, sung poorly, and guitars and bass that does zero to augment it with any excitement.
Not heard this since the 70's And I didnt like it much back then Feels like a bit of a museum piece at this point Sure, put it up there with Henrdrix and the Beatles, and it's coming in last place for me Strange Brew and Sunshine make it a 2/5
I was excited about it going in but was disappointed in the end. And Eric Clapton is an asshole.
When its good its great, but lots of stuff I didn't find super interesting
Неплохой рок, но и только. Также понятно, откуда "Аукцыоны" взяли своё звучание
Influential I suppose, but not my style.
I only knew Sunshine Of Your Love which is an iconic song, and a really good one. The rest of the album isn't all that exciting. I like Eric Clapton, but I can't say I'm really invested in everything he's done. Anyway, this record is ok just because of that iconic song.
The moment blues-rock turned into heavy psychedelia
It was ok to my ears,
The album was fine. Most of the songs were around 3 minutes long which is the best time for me. It keeps the song from getting too repetitious and therefore boring. There was no song that really grabbed me though, so it wouldn't be an album that I would add to my collection. The most surprising song was, "Mother's Lament" as it didn't seem to be like the others as it was kind of folksy.
So that's what a Cream album sounds like. It's perfectly OK, but automatically loses a point for the gratuitous novelty song at the end.
Sunshine Of Your Love is a great tune, as evidenced by almost everyone who covered it. The original, here, just feels lacklustre. The album as a whole generally quite a boring listen. Best tune is the throwaway "Mother's Lament" at the end. Also, Clapton & Baker are total pricks.
Pffffft, just not a big electric blues guy. Liked the more psychedelic elements. And Sunshine of your Love is a tune
4/10
I've never been much into Cream. "Sunshine Of Your Love" is a great and classic song that almost everyone knows. Outside of that, I wasn't familiar with anything on this album. I thought there were some decent songs, but there were also some songs that I thought were really bad. The singing on a couple of songs was seriously awful. I give full credit to these guys and their talent on their respective instruments, but overall this wouldn't end up on a list of great albums for me just because I thought a couple songs were just really not good.
mm no
this album really grinds my gears, ykwis?
Some hits, a few misses for me 3.2
Glad I listened to this album through and agree it’s a pretty fair interpretation of why Cream were so renowned for reinterpreting traditional delta blues with a funkier and more rockier electric heart. That heavy up- tempo apparently mostly courtesy of Eric’s Gibson plus a sprinkling of some nice psychedelic rock sounds throughout. I really like that main single sunshine of your love so good to hear that again, but beyond that not much that would encourage me into a return listen.
This one wasn’t for me. Thought I’d wandered into the set for Spinal Tap.
Assustador. 8 de 10 Gostei de ver um alerta para anti-traição. 7.9 de 10 Uma intro muito interessante em Take it Back. A letra é meio ???. Nada de especial, bem anos 50. 5 de 10 Um lamento de uma mãe é bem inovador para a época. 7 de 10
no tanto mi estilo. no se si lo escucharía de nuevo
Boring
Еле дослушал. Приблюзованный рок времён хиппи. Не фанат Клэптона как такового, а тут вообще тяжко и скучно было.
1 or 2 standouts but overall didn't sound spectacular. Maybe a fad of the times?
llegó a una canción y solo quería dejar de escucharlo
It’s ok. I don’t understand the love that it gets. I’ve heard 1000 albums better than this. For the guy whose review said this was better than Jimi Hendrix and The Beatles…you’re wrong. Also fuck Eric Clapton. He’s always sucked and been overrated.
world on fire wasn’t bad but the lyrics were so wierd imo
Heard the first two tracks everyone knows and then checked out. The music just wasn't that impressive....
Cream is expired
i like "dance the night away."
Liked the sound when it started. But this was so forgettable overall, I had hardly realised it had ended when it did.
Once upon a time, I would've really loved this album. 60s Clapton is better than 2020s Clapton, no argument there. But honestly, I'm bored with psych blues at this point. I'm a huge blues fan too, but I got tired of listening to Brits regurgitate the blues at us a while ago- and as much as this is way blusier than, say, the Beatles, it's still far, far too British.
It was interesting to learn this was the album with "Sunshine of Your Love" on it.
Too hippy, flowery and structureless for my liking.
Undoubtedly very innovative at the time. Now I had to listen twice before I could form a clear picture.
nid mis
I think I actually would have enjoyed this more without the lyrics
This sounded just like I'd expect an album named "Cream" from 1967 to sound. Unfortunately those expectations don't align with my taste.
Sunshine of your love is good. Sorry but the rest is just psychedelic noise :///
Album oubliable mais reste sympa en musique de fond. Note : 2 À réécouter : Non
A few good tracks and lots of aged british white boy rock 'n' roll. Tales of Brave Ulysses was fun!
I know ginger isn't noted for playing simple rhythms and beats, but it does get a bit wearing when its all through a lot of the songs. A few classic songs but the rest forgettable, was expecting to like this a lot more than I did. Classic Clapton guitar work, but it doesn't save the weak songs. I can hear the basis of other classic later Cream tracks in some of the songs.
Getting a bit bored of 60s psychedelic rock. I know there is the great Eric Clapton and his musical genius but that's it for me!!
nao gostei
"White room" a bunch of times over at its best. At its worst, "Mother's Lament". Unfortunately a lot more bad than good here
2.5 - Didn't hate it!
Mid
Mostly basically OK I suppose, although deathly dull in the main. The first two songs are decent, and there's one in the middle (SWLABR) that's great fun. It loses about sixty million points for the absolutely painful, appalling, terrible final track, one of the worst examples of that weird thing where mostly southern bands do music hall pastiches for no-one's benefit but their own. No.
It was really hard for me to pay attention during this one
For as influential as the band is, and how stacked it is with incredible musicians, there's far too much filler on such a short album. The highs are high, but how can a 30 minute album have so many forgettable tracks? Especially when considering how incredible each musician is in their own right.
Cool guitar jams for the time, that's about it. 60s psych rock isn't my thing! Standouts: Sunshine For Your Love • Blue Condition
I never really liked Cream. Out of all the CDs I plundered from my dad's collection, they were the most disappointing. Even their best of collection awakened nothing in me. This album is boring as shit. The production also sounds terrible. I can barely hear anything and a few highlights do not do enough to keep my attention.
Najbardziej podobała mi się piosenka "Mother's Lament", bo miała konkretny tekst. Inne nie przykuły mojej uwagi. 2,5/5
Boring as fuck. riff by riff, but why?
// en av de jeg ikke forstår er 1001-essensiell. en god opplevelse men ikke særlig minneverdig.
I want to give credit where credit's due. The psychadelic bluesy influence is definitely good, and really shows itself on side B with the song "Tales of Brave Ulysses." However, this album is largely uninspired songwriting with a mediocre to often outright bad vocal performance. I was unsurprised by the Wikipedia page remarking on the brief recording sessions. I respect Cream and Eric Clapton for their work, but I can't pretend to have enjoyed this.
Pari biisiä oli mielenkiintoista, joissa oli hyvä meininki. Mutten aikalailla luotaantyöntävää ulinaa. Blues toimii yleensä taustamusana jossain hämyisessä pubissa, kun on hyvä kalje edessä. Töissä kuunneltuna ei vain toimi. Vai toimisiko töissä, jos ois hyvä kalje edessä. En tiedä.
It is an album from 1960s so i had low expectations and it just reached them, no more
This was fine. Not sure I can understand why people like them so much though. Less huge guitar solos than I thought there would be so that's a bonus!
1 nummer er ikke nok til at trække pladen nogen steder hen
Meh
Riff, rhythm, and ripping. Cream was early and influential. "Disraeli Gears" is easy evidence of a primordial rock soup that would lead to "heaviness" bands to follow: A tight band brings energy and whole universes are borne on the scraps of a simple dumb riff. Solos never end. There's also a sort of common-denominator lowering stupidity present in the album that shows up in the form of the bands' inside jokes. I was super curious about the title "Disraeli Gears". I thought it be some cryptic wordplay about Israel and geopolitical machinations. Turns out it's just the band naming their whole album after something dumb their roadie said. The album carries other moments that display the band clearly having a lot of fun, and not needing to be very intelligent or coherent to do so. The entire existence of the last song "Mother's Lament" is particularly head scratching in this way. "Tales of Brave Ulysses" is a total ripper. I first heard it on Buffy the Vampire Sayer (Giles was listening to it) and was shocked to hear the clear origins of what Monster Magnet (super underrated) would take on to make "Negasonic Teenage Warhead". I get the importance of this record. It's a little scattershot, and kind of dumb overall, but with a few brilliant and redeeming moments. It would be a solid 3 for me, but I'm docking a star because, fuck Eric Clapton.
Rating: 5/10 Meh.
--Strange Brew...a little slow for my taste but the guitar is nice --Sunshine of Your Love...again, decent tune, but I wish Ginger Baker would push the tempo a little more --World of Pain...60s faux-hippy slop --Dance the Night Away...methinks they were under the influence when recording this --Blue Condition...Ginger probably shouldn't sing --Tales of Brave Ulysses...a kind of proto-prog-metal, or something. it's fine --SWLABR...okay, Ginger's kicking here. lyrics are dumb --We're Going Wrong...plodding --Outside Woman Blues...oh, Eric Clapton, you racist stealer of music, you --Take It Back...fun blues number --Mother's Lament...sigh
I've probably listened to this at some point, but beyond "Sunshine of Your Love" nothing is familiar. And it's....not very good beyond that? A couple other decent songs, but nothing I really care to listen to again.

2.0 - Fuck Eric Clapton. Bonus point for Ginger Baker.
The drums sound like they were recorded in another room filled with blankets. Muffled into oblivion. Cream are known for the guitar riffs and they deliver here. Sunshine Of Your Love slaps. The rest can stay in the 60s. Vocals are so thin. Agreed wholeheartedly with the I hate Eric Clapton sentiments expressed others. I would be more understanding if Mothers Lament was a Monty Python skit. 2/5 for Sunshine and Tales of Brave Ulysses .
Incredibly boring. Tired of Sunshine of Your Love. SWLBAR is cool.
Got a good chuckle out of Mothers Lament, but the rest of the songs blurred together. I actually listened to the album twice because I forgot where I left off and didn’t realize I was two songs from the end.
Inget som stack ut för mig utöver Sunshine of Your Love.
Yikes, this certainly aged like 60 year old cream
Another rock album that sounds like a rock album :)))
This album just didn't click despite me really wanting it to based on what I knew of the band. First time I've ever listened to a full album of Eric Clapton's guitar playing and his slow hand blues shit is not for me, which I have decided to attribute to him being a huge racist (at the time? He says he's not anymore, but he's also British so...) They are great musician's individual it just doesn't really come together for me and the tracks where Clapton or Ginger Baker sing just drag. It should have been a breezy half hour listen, but it felt way longer and the dorky lyrics didn't help. Sunshine of Your Love and SWLABR were standouts that I very much enjoyed
not totally for me
considered to be the greatest thing Clapton ever had a hand in and booooooy does that reflect poorly on him. fitting though. deserves to be one of the 1001? probably yes, unfortunately
meh
I thought I would like this more. Obviously sunshine of your love is great but the reset didn’t really do anything for me
It couldn't be more 60's if it tried. The music is competent but the falsetto drives me nuts. No longer important.
i mean, it's fine, but also i don't care much - it's a 33-minute album, yet feels longer, "Sunshine Of Your Love" is cool, though
I was expecting better from this band.
Very cliché, very dull and somehow one of the shortest albums felt the longest
Not my kind of thing
Didn't like it as much as I thought I would.
Didn't like it one bit. Probably because it's in a style that I find boring. The lyrics also didn't add anything to my life. Seems like an album to listen to while you drive just to have something in the background without paying much attention to it. I won't listen to it again.
Boring boomer blues rock
Naw not for me
It's ok but a bit boring and Clapton's a racist.
Wasn't terrible. A high 2.
Flashbacks to Guitar Hero 3 where Sunshine Of Your Love was my least favourite track. Okay album though, a bit flat by today's standards. What the fuck was that last song haha
Strange Brew and Sunshine of Your Love were good. Not captivated by the rest.
This may be the longest 33 minute album of all time
After listening this album I still feel that Cream and Eric Clapton are way over rated
Proof that incredible musicianship does not always lead to an incredible album. Clapton's guitar work is great, swirling around unpredictably. Jack Bruce's drums are even better, providing the main draw on songs like "We're Going Wrong." It all feels very disorienting, in a good way. The big problem is that none of these songs are long or interesting enough to make full use of that feeling; they're all fairly short and mostly pretty standard from a songwriting perspective, without long jams or unexpected elements. This often makes the psychedelic elements feel like more like something that's preventing the song from really getting into a groove. The vocals are also fairly weak, and the final track, while not ruining that album, certainly sounds terrible. The playing almost pushes this to a 3, but the songwriting barely keeps it at a 2.
Some interesting bits but otherwise I thought this was pretty damn boring.
Don't care. Its alright, not for me
Dette høres ut som tre folk som helst vil lage blues, men på grunn av tiden måtte lage psychadelica. Funker ikke helt bare billig ut. Skuffende!
Musically really really good, but also really really boring. Felt like it went for an hour too long.
One good song in a sea of mediocrity. The ending made it worse. 2/5.
Meh
Bit dull tbh. Sunshine Of Your love alright for a bit but that also wears thin. And Clapton is a ponce. The sound, although being straight up blues, is quite unique. For that reason it branches into 2/5. 2.0/5.0 Best Song: Sunshine Of Your Love
It stinks, but not as bad as i thought it would. Its the sort of psychedelic music that i don't like and as much as i try i can't separate the art from the artist with Clapton, he's an absolute bell and i can fell it in his dad rock. It's just cheesy riffs to me.
I had only heard the three hits. I liked the rest of it okay until that Music Hall song tacked on to the end. Ruined the whole vibe.
I considered giving this one star, but it's not worse than 50 Center, which in retrospect should have gotten one star. Side One: Strange Brew - feels like pre-schoolers trying to make rock. Has the right parts, but kinda vapid. And Clapton can't sing. Sunshine of Your Love - A classic guitar riff sure, but the rest of kind meh. Ginger's drums are hurt by the shoddy recording that was the norm of the time. The song is better sampled that listened too. World of Pain - Not bad. Dance the Night Away - I like the vibe at the start, but then like most every song on this album, it goes nowhere interesting. Blue Condition - what is this droney BS. Sounds like they took too many quaaludes. Side Two: Tales of Brave Ulysses - Perhaps my fav song on the album. SWLABR - Not the worst song on the album We're Going Wrong - No. Outside Woman Blues - Also no Take It Back - Feels like parts of 3 different songs played at the same time. Mother's Lament - bunch of wankers
Lower league boomer rock. Kinda cringe. What happens when you record a bunch of session musicians cosplaying at being hip.
Eh, this whole album wasn't too spectacular. Sunshine of your Love is just kinda overshadowing everything else just because of how iconic it is. I wish the other songs would've gone deeper and more intense. There was some lame greek references in songs UGH. Alright. this was alright.
It's just not my thing. It's not bad, but it definitely is not for me.
Maar 1 bekend nummer en dat snap ik want de rest is minder goed
Sunshine of Your Love will always be one of the first twenty songs anyone ever learns when they first pick up a guitar, and Strange Brew is pretty incredible, but the rest of this is interminable noodling. At least it’s short.
Obligatory fuck Eric Clapton message.
*1967. *Some good stuff here, but it got boring and repetitive pretty quickly for me. RATING - 5/10
Most of the songs didn't feel memorable but some good ones here and there. It doesn't feel unique
Прикольний альом десь 3-4 з 5,проблема тільки, що всі пісні на одну схожі,а так нормально
First two tracks - can do without World of Pain - an actual fun track with some interesting arrangements, kinda catchy. Dance the Night Away - trippy, creepy, great guitar tone and some interesting riffs, is there a 12 string guitar in this track?? Blue Condition - kinda of a boring track, great bass riff and tempo just does nothing for me. Tales of Brave Ulysses - the most interesting track of the album so far, great guitar work, might be the first song with a wah-wah pedal. Like the down tempo changes in the song. Great story telling and atmosphere SWLABR - just doing their thing, kinda a typical cream song, guess it breaks some of the weirdness up at this point. Good vocal work, bass arrangement, solid drumming. The drumming shines in this track We're Going Wrong - some of the best vocals in the album Outside Women Blues - maybe the best riffs on the album, good storytelling, catchy, groovy, psychedelic, some good rock here on this track, but it's a cover by Blind Joe Reynolds, just listen to the original. Take it Back - very blues oriented, decent track, sticks out on the album, not my favorite however appreciate what they are doing here. Would have loved some Silver Apples simeon sound on this track Mother Lament - by far the funniest track on this album(is it about a baby going down the drain??)it's goofy, fun piano going on. Glad they ended the album on this note. Just wish the track was maybe a minute and thirty seconds longer with some wild piano. Why hasn't ween covered this?? Overall, it's much better than the debut album, however CREAM doesn't do it for me. There's no OOMPH in this album, that would make me return to it. The classic tracks like Sunshine of your love, does nothing for me even though it's part of pop culture. Don't really like their take on psychedelic, the album is just okay. There are some stand out moments however overall, doesn't do it for me. Best tracks, Dance the Night Away, Tales of Brave Ulysses, Mother Lament
4/10 - it's alright, all the songs end up blending into one same sound
kind of just boring psych rock
I listened to this a bit but it didn’t really stick with me. Don’t think I’ll listen again.
Not for me. The two singles at the top are some solid rock singles, they're not my favourite but I can appreciate that they're basically good. The rest of the record falls off fast for me. Maybe it doesn't help that I don't really like the horrible racist's guitar playing style so much (trying to keep that separate from his politics.) I have reviewed a bunch of 90s hip hop where I'm confident that there is a good 40 minute album in there, but hey have inexplicably added half an hour of skits and filler that just annoy me. Here they have added skits and filler to get two tracks up to barely more than half an hour.
beatles fast sämre :|
Det är helt stört hur Sunshine of your love är så mycket bättre än resten av hela albumet, även om det finns några andra trevliga deep cuts (sista låten är definitionen av brittisk)
At first, I wasn't excited for another British album from the 1960s. I'm not a huge fan of the Beatles, and I just listened to Arthur from the Kinks, so I was happy to hear that Cream's Disraeli Gears wasn't just a carbon copy of those bands. I enjoyed the hard rock elements of this album. World of Pain is a highlight. I recognized the riff of Sunshine of Your Love instantly, and I'm adding that song to my regular rotation. After a while, the album feels a little stale, and it's running time feels long for 33 minutes. I understand the influence of albums like this, and there are a couple good tracks, but I'm don't think I'd listen to this album in full again. Also, it's too bad Eric Clapton is an anti-vax racist. 2.5 out of 5.
Did not stand the test of time. Oh, and f*ck Eric Clapton.
It's fine, I guess, but by today's standards this is pretty unremarkable.
Just wasn’t in the mood, this era of rock really blends into itself for me.
OK boomer.
I’m familiar with some of cream songs. There was one on this album that I recognized. I must say I don’t think this would’ve been my favorite album of theirs.
Besides Sunshine of Your Love, this album didn't do much for me. It's the genre, nothing specific to this band. I can see how they have influenced others.
Creating arguably the best psychedelic blues album is great and all but it's akin to being the best penny-farthing cyclist on the planet. I'm sure this album sounded neat in 1967 but in a few years you look as ridiculous as someone riding a high-wheeler in the Tour de France. Groovy cover.
The Cream is supposed to rise to the top, but not on this occasion!
Thought I would enjoy this more than I did. Sunshine of Your Love is an obvious classic but otherwise this felt pretty tiresome. Some of the double albums I've had on here have felt shorter than this 33-min album.
Songs were not as long as I assumed from this band of old jammers. Drums good.
4/10
I'm not sure if it is the sleepy singing or maybe the production is muted, but I'm surprised how boring I found this.
Strange Brew and Sunshine of your love are standout tracks, the rest of the album isn't much to write home about
Some amazing guitarwork but overall this album is a 30 minute slog
Bland but I like the song about ulysses
Pretty listenable. Second last track is really jarring.
It’s alright, I really don’t like psych rock like this
65/100 didn't really get the appeal to this, pretty boring and every song other than the opening and closer tracks sound exactly the same lmaoo
