Favorites: - Under ice - Watching you without me - Jig of life ja, k weet niet. Ik voel hier niet zo veel voor. T is niet echt slecht ofzo, maarja. Oke laatste 3/4 nummers zijn wel banger
Er waren leuke nummer aan het begin, iets minder in het midden
While I'm not really a Kate Bush fan, I do think it's cool that Stranger Things has given her a bit of a comeback. This just isn't really a genre I care for, but it seems like it would be a good album if I did like it.
Трудно определяемый жанр. Драматургия похожа на слушанный недавно альбом So Габриэля - первая половина поп, вторая более серьезная и занудная.
Never really liked Kate Bush based on the couple of singles I had heard but felt this album was okay.
Decent pop songs and some of them are still relevant now but definitely not my style.
Despite being a Stranger Things fan, I actually don't really like "Running up that Hill." So, I went into this album with great trepidation: '80s albums are usually misses for me, and I already didn't think I liked the singer. Kate bush, at least on this album, balance is delicately on this line between being too bizarre for me to enjoy and stunningly beautiful. And because of that, I felt like the album was a little bit hit or miss depending on the song. She definitely reminded me of bjork in places, and not in a good way, and another place is it was just this completely original melodic, atmospheric, just gorgeous pop compositions. I definitely liked the first half better than the second, but even the second half had some of those gems that I truly fell in love with. This won't be an album that I come back to over and over again; however, there are some tracks that have already been added to my favorites, and I will continue to listen to hereafter.
a cinematic piece for the get-go, with plenty of surreal moments in between
Nice
Interesting listen, a few good songs.
Favs : Cloudbusting, Hounds of Love Intéressants : Under Ice, Waking The Witch, Jig Of Life
I’ve heard the first song before, but never really gotten into it. Everything else was new. I don’t know. I didn’t really think anything about it. Nothing really stood out to me, good or bad. But I liked it more than I disliked it, I guess, so…3/5?
Running up that hill saves the 3 status
Meh. It wasn't terrible but wasn't great etiher. If Stranger Things had never used her music would we even know who she is or would she appear in this list? My bet is no.
Often sings in a similar manner to a kid making up songs from the text in a cereal box.
Not a Kate Bush fan. I tried, but it’s not fantastic. There’s a lot of emotion in some songs, but I don't think much of her voice. I was going to go with 2, but “Running Up That Hill” saves it, for the only reason that it allowed Placebo to cover it.
Stranger things song is best song on album
Nice
There is no doubt that Kate Bush consists of influence and variety. Every song was very interesting and I was wondering where it would take me next. given this, I think it felt like something was still missing. I would have loved to see just a little more.
Kind of cool dark pop. Hard for others to stand out alongside running up that hill, but a few do
Calm sound
Track 1 is classic. Side note: Placebo covers it quite well especially live. The Big Sky” had a groove, and I liked “Jig of Life”.
Doesn’t quite rate as high as The Sensual World, but definitely proves that her album The Dreaming did not need to be on this list. Continued props for such high production and songcrafting at such a young age (27). The back 7 plays more like the soundtrack to a stage production, which makes sense given the Irish arrangements were done by future Riverdance composer Bill Whelan. I think I’ve had my fill of Kate Bush for awhile.
I gave this 3* when I listened to Apple Music’s best 100 albums of all time. And I remember being surprised it was included on the list. I do enjoy Running Up That Hill and it’s cool it gained renewed popularity after being used in an ep of Stranger Things. Nothing much to say beyond that. 3.25/5
I have tried and tried and tried so many times to listen to what are considered Kate Bush’s masterworks, and for the life of me I just can’t get it to click. There’s something about her operatic singing style that doesn’t ring true with me, mixed with post-punk / new wavey synths that are one of my least favorite genres of the past century. I can absolutely objectively hear why so many people view this as the pinnacle of 80s pop, but subjectively I just can’t get it it to sink into my primate brain. 3.4/5
#497. This album nose dives hard in the second half. Waking the Witch is terrible, and it just gets weird after that. It's too bad really, because the first half was pretty good. I guess that's the way it goes sometimes, what are you gonna do? 3/5: just listen to side a and then find something better to do with your time.
Another Kate bush album. Damn. I feel like I’m running up a hill.
10/02/2025 It was an okay album. Nothing more, nothing less.
Didn't get to this on Friday. I'll check it out now. Dude jig of life is awesome! it was pretty good, but only 3 stars from me
This sounded like a female Bowie album. I'm not exactly sure what the hell Waking the Witch was about. It didn't really sound like it fits the album. I liked the slow jam, Watching You Without Me. Other than that, it was an ok listen. Pleasant, but nothing stands out. 3 here.
The word for Kate I think is unconventional or maybe non traditional. I don't think that there is very much out there that sounds like her. Her voice is operatic and dramatic. Backing tracks are pretty original sounding too. I can hear maybe some influence on Tori Amos throughout the album. The highlight for me was Jig Of Life.
3.5
I really like this one! Phenomenal synthesizer throughout and just a fun ambum
A bit too experimental for me, especially with some of the vocalizations, but they were at least listenable bc of how great of a voice Kate bush has. I really liked the use of different drums throughout the album; coupled with her unique vocalizations it gave the album an almost tribal feel to it, which I haven’t really heard in pop music before so that’s was cool. I’m also starting something with this where I make a playlist consisting of my favorite songs from each album. Todays best song pick: The Big Sky
It was alright! I wouldn’t go out of my way to listen to it, but I don’t hate it either. Vibes were there
It was ok.
Not bad. Cool to see the running up that hill resurgance over the last few years thanks to Stranger Things.
It was fine, A song I unexpectedly enjoyed was Jig of Life
Good-weird.
I didn't like this as much as The Sensual World, which was definitely a 5 for me. Really was expecting to like this because I love Running Up That Hill, but this album feels super inconsistent and feels more like an experiment and someone just noodling around than trying to make a solid album? Like, glad I heard it, but I don't know. Overrated. Don't know why it's considered the best Kate Bush record.
its peak
love
Probably a 3. It is good but it’s also not.
Running up that hill is decent! Rest is OK-ish.
I feel the same way about Kate Bush's vocal stylings as I do about extended electric guitar solos. I'm sure she's very talented, but I don't enjoy listening to her.
First two tracks are best. 3/5.
Did not use a private session for Spotify. Albums fully grounded in the 80s, has the 80's classic "Running Up That Hill" which was given new life from "Stranger Things". Won't be listening to it again, though.
Good pop album, doesn't really change my generally-neutral feelings towards pop. "Running Up That Hill" is excellent. Good background music.
Amazing voice
Understand it's icon 80s, just not my jam. Quality is good, I just don't vine as much with 80s pop
I've listened to this before and never thought too much of it outside of Running Up That Hill, which is just a phenomenal song. On a closer listen this is a really impressive album with some interesting, if often very dated, production. And I love Kate's power through all of it. Still, I don't love most of the songs as much as I find them academically interesting, so I think I will always come back to that one song and I can live without the rest unless I'm really in the mood.
Not my favorite, but fun to listen to more from the “running up that hill” album
Ethereal listening to the front side of the album. Voice is incredible.
всё это не так ужасно как в детстве но осадок остался и проникнуться не могу
I just really don’t have much of an attachment to this 80s style synth pop rock. Has a banger of a first track that will boost it up to a three and then other than that pretty forgettable and would otherwise be a two.
I actually think she was fairly consistent and good to listen to. Surprisingly good to me to be honest. I like some Kate Bush!
Amazing voice, very unique. Not my go to genre normally, was aware of the “hits” before listening. These I like a lot, other tracks didn’t really catch me barring maybe 1 other. Feels like the type of music I could well listen to alone, definitely deserves another few listens
Nice and creative 80s album
Drops off towards the end
i'm really hesitant to give her that 3-star rating. what happened to me? it's just that... it's actually good!
Great album….
Didn’t hate it but only Running up that Hill stood out to me. Waking the Witch is sort of terrifying to hear if you are falling asleep which is what this album made me do.
Much better than the other Kate Bush we listened to on this project. The vocal hooks pull you in like they should, and the drum machine-based production feels more fleshed out.
some good songs, some good ideas. running up that hill is a masterpiece really
Running up that hill is a banger. The rest is interesting art pop that's hard to find anywhere else. Björk is the closest artist I can think of but I do think Kate Bush got something more than Björk as she's got a magical storyteller vibe.
Was alright. Kate has a fine voice even if I don't really resonate with her music.
1. Song ist halt stark der Rest klingt wie der in schlechter
Not really my style but still decent.
Meh.
She’s so real for this
Running up that hill has been a song I have loved for many years and the spike in popularity last year was well deserved. Other than that I don't know if I have listened to Kate Bush at all so this was something I looked forward to as I saw todays album. It was a mixed bag for me though. Some songs were slow or had strange rhythms that I didn't enjoy at all. Others were really atmospheric and I liked them a lot. So not something I would listen to every day but certainly some songs that I really enjoy.
***an ok, easy listening album.
Starts really good, then loses its way a bit as the album goes on
Enjoyable
good all round listen, starts very strongly
Some of these songs are great, but what's with all the corny sound effects? No wonder the Duffer Brothers wanted "Running Up That Hill" for "Stranger Things" ... they probably listened to a lot of "Waking the Witch" while writing the show.
Sound from gone times but worth listening.
She’s cool but the production on this is SO dated.
ok
The album felt like one big mood and it is very enjoyable, but didn’t feel further creative for what it expresses.
a bit overrated. the big tracks rock, lotsa filler tracks though
There were parts of it I liked, I will need to listen to it a bit more.
I had listened to Kate Bush before, but I didn't really connect with her until, like many others, I heard "Running Up That Hill (A Deal with God) as a recurring feature in Stranger Things Season 4. The strength of the A-side is incredible. Bush is a tour de force. The B-side is still great, but the sudden shift into a musical theater involving an Ice Witch can cause a bit of whiplash. Not to say those songs aren't interesting or good in their own right, but I'd personally like to hear them in a work of their own, rather than tacked on to the end of this album. "Watching You Without Me" and "The Morning Fog" do help stylistically ground this second half in the world of the first, but it's this inconsistency that keeps me from giving it a higher rating.
sure. I think Running Up That Hill is overrated but there were tracks on the album i liked more, which was nice. 2.5
Meh - not really my thing at all. And the more I hear Kate Bush’s voice the more I find it kinda annoying to be honest. 2.8/3
Starts off with a great song and gets weird from there. 3 stars because running up the hill is a jam
Good
3 Stars (8/15)
Too much drama and angst for my taste!
Interesting album. Some parts are straight 80's pop. Some parts towards the end are world-sound: Watching You Without Met sounds like Peter Gabriel, "Jig of Life" is full Celtic, "Hello Earth" has a classic choir.
Way more listenable than you'd expect for an album whose B-side is a "conceptual suite." Borders on 4-stars, but really only a few songs (including the cult classic turned Stranger Things hit) really rise to those levels.
Not truly a style of music that I gravitate toward, but it was certainly interesting none the less. Lyrics feel more like a story, and at times the music felt muddled and overwhelmed my brain. Mother stands for Comfort honestly made me long for the end, but Under Ice and Waking the witch certainly drew me in, feeling more like a production. Probably not something I would reach for repeatedly, but certainly something I would indulge in again. 3/5
First two songs are amazing, the rest a bit ordinary.
Yeh pretty good 7/10
Some really good songs, but also some fillers of the album in my opinion.
this was, after some internal debate...pretty good. unique. ballsy.
Pretty front loaded album, Running Up That Hill has been thoroughly ruined by becoming a huge trend online, but is still a great song nonetheless. The production is good and Kate Bush is a great songwriter but this album didn't particularly gel with me, a lot of the songs feel like they are a minute or so longer than they should be and the album itself feels quite long-winded (this feeling definitely peaked for me in Jig of Life). Overall, I did enjoy the album but it's not something I see myself returning to as a whole despite enjoying the major hits from the album. Highlights: Running Up That Hill, Cloudbusting, The Morning Fog
decent
Meh, 80s theatre kid music
Very 80s and very fun soothing pop songs fairly good lyrics too.
Mainly great
Honestly pretty good excluding the overused tik tok song.
Dreamy, experimental pop. The overall feeling of the album is very strong as it is cohesive and things work together. It is the opposite of grounded and that feels good
Thank you, Kate Bush - very cool!
I really like the first half of this records. Brilliant popsongs, with an otherworldly quality. The second half is too artsy for me, even if her voice still keeps me interested.
I'm not sure if I'm into this kind of eccentric pop. I enjoyed listening, but I probably won't come back to it, save for a couple of tracks that I saved. There was just too much weirdness at times; maybe I'm not enough of a music nerd to get it (the witch song in particular was unbearable to listen to!). I guess I just like my pop to be... poppy. However, I do give her credit for being different and more innovative than other pop artists from her era. 3 stars
Sounds like our current pop, altough a bit more creative and fun. If I was sure it played a part in the current pop landscape I would rate it a hell of a lot lower.
Enh, it's okay.
Much, much better than the last Kate Bush album on here.
Always like THE song on this album, RUNNING UP THAT HILL, but there's a lot of other, interesting and original sounds on here, too. A good listen.
Okay, I expected more
One really good song and a lot of ones I didn’t vibe with
weird
Running up that hill is so so good and hounds of love follows up strong but then the rest is just ok
I have always adored Kate Bush’s unique vocal style, distinctive phrasing, and impressive range. As such, I really wanted to love this album. The first half, Hounds of Love, is packed with pop hooks and unforgettable melodies. It has all the big hits, and what sets these tracks apart is how Bush infuses enough quirkiness and inventive touches to keep them fresh, even after all these years. The second half, The Ninth Wave, is more of a mixed experience for me. This conceptual suite follows a character lost at sea, drifting between life and death. I admire the ambition and experimentation—some of the recording techniques were groundbreaking at the time, especially given that Bush recorded it all in her home studio with no label interference. However, the use of vocal effects and a few odd genre turns left me wishing for more of her raw, unadorned vocals. It feels almost sacrilegious to obscure such a beautiful voice. Despite that, the creativity and boldness displayed on the album as a whole showcase Bush’s genius and why her voice was so synonymous with the 80s. Did/Do I own this release? No Does this release belong on the list? Yes Would this release make my personal list? No Will I be listening to it again? "Hounds of Love" and "Running Up That Hill" are eternal classics I'd be glad to hear any day, any time.
I genuinely do not understand why all the top commenters are stroking their dicks to this album. It’s fine. It is certainly experimental and progressive for 80s pop, but it doesn’t have enough structure for me to find it interesting. And I don’t personally love Bush’s voice all that much.
I thought her music was unique.
I thought it was good. I like her individuality.
Fine. Wouldn't mind listening to it if it came on, wouldn't seek it out. Did have some famous songs I recognized, which is always cool
Overall a much better album than I expected. Pop isn't really my thing but this album had some standout tracks like Hounds of Love, Waking the Witch, and Jig of Life. I give it a 6.5/10
First two tracks (Running Up That Hill, and Hounds Of Love) are the best. The rest of the album is intriguing enough, but not enough to make me a Bush fan [snigger]
Not a bad album, but I felt it was too repetitive for my liking, and I could only listen to a few tracks before I wanted to stop. Would listen again, but not for a while.
Interesting fact: I read that due to the popularity that Stranger Things brought to “Running Up That Hill” that Kate Bush was pulling in $400k in royalties on a regular basis now (daily, weekly, monthly? Can’t remember). Good for her! This album is meh. I listened to this and it was okay but outside of “Running Up That Hill” none of the other songs or the album really grabbed me. This is a 2-star album with one 5-star track. I guess that equals 3-stars in my system.
Some fine songs but a steady 3 for me.
was about to give it a 2 then a damn medieval solo IN A POP ALBUM appeared, bumping it to a 3 not really my thing but, but the second half (except the first track obviously) was better and i must give it to her for the artistry. read a review mentioning this influencing bjork, and man idk how this kind of music is so popular, but to each his own!
Running up hills? No thanks but this album isn't as terrible as forced exercise
I recall trying this on in 1995 or 1996 maybe following a girlfriend telling me how much she loved Kate Bush. I never thought about it much until Stranger Things hit and brought R.U.T.H. roaring back. I like Kate Bush personally. I think she has a cool personality and is a woman of substance. Her music too is a serious effort. I didn't think much of the rest of the album back then, but Under the Ice hit for me a bit this time. It's pretty good. I love how it flows so beautifully into the piano transition of Waking the Witch, a song that takes a surprising turn with its manic second half. Hello Earth is also an excellent effort and I really like it. Overall, I see this as maybe a weirder Tori Amos album. Listenable and enjoyable even if it isn't a top favorite.
It's clear she was a big influence on Tori Amos but some of the avant garde arrangements (the stretch of Under Ice through Watching You Without Me are intolerable) keep this from being accessible for me. Better than the other two KB albums on this list but only because of Running Up That Hill (still prefer the Meg Myers version).
I used to think Kate Bush wasn't for me, it was music for grown ups. I must be a real grown up now because I rather enjoyed this. Bush's voice still hits some tones that really put me on edge, so I could never be considered a fan, but I love the music throughout this album. It's all really quite beautiful.
Liked the first three tracks, the rest was not my jam
Kate Bush paved the way to be a 15 year old musical genius. I had really only heard Running Up That Hill when it was on Stranger Things but listening to this whole album was a cooler experience than I had initially thought
First half is phenomenal and then takes a weird turn....
Running up the hill är ju snorbra. Men ingen annan låt när den nivån. En del experimenterande som är meh. Ändå rätt skönt sound.
Side 1: Standouts: 1. the big sky 2. mother stands for comfort Insgesamt /5: 4- Side 2: Standouts: 3. hello earth Insgesamt /5: 3- ALBUM GESAMT /5: 3,5-
It's a good record, but it doesn't stick with me outside of the singles. Running up that Hill is an amazing track while Cloudbusting and Hounds of Love are also solid they don't quite reach the same heights. The rest of the album just disappears on me after listening. 2.5 stars rounding up.
Meh
Never understood why people love her. She's OK.
more like kate awesome
It is good, but not something I would listen to normally. This just kind of became background noise after a bit, but I enjoyed it enough. The second half does fall off though. above average 3
Still enjoyable
It’s aight
Stranger Things already had me burnt out by her 1 song. Then all the Stranger Things fans made me actually kinda hate it. Ended up keeping this album on repeat & it only got better with each listen. Lol so instead of not liking it, I only kinda dig it.
Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God) - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Hounds of Love - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The Big Sky - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Mother Stands for Comfort - ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Cloud Busting - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ And Dream of Sheep - ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Under Ice - ⭐️⭐️ Waking the Witch - ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Watching You Without Me - ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Jig of Life - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Hello Earth - ⭐️⭐️⭐️ The Morning Fog - ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Total - 41/60 Percentage - 68% Rating - 3.4
Not exactly my thing and I dont have that much to say about it, but whatever. She's got a nice voice tho.
I actually wasn't expecting to like this as much as I did. It doesn't completely escape the stink of the 80s, as few things from that decade do, but it makes a valiant attempt. Running Up has been a guilty pleasure of mine since it came out.
Very grating 80's sound which I'm not too fond of. Sounds like everything is squished through a narrow tube, which helps to accentuate the vocals which are impressive, as are the lyrics. It's just far enough from pop to be listenable. The 2018 remaster ups the quality and dynamic range. Highlights: Running Up That Hill, Mother Stands For Comfort, And Dream of Sheep, Hello Earth.
This isn't funny. Two Kate Bush albums in three days. This is a lot more enjoyable than The Dreaming. I love the fretless bass on Mother Stands For Comfort and The Morning Fog. 3.5 for this one. Since I gave The Dreaming a 3-star rating and it's really a 2.5, this one averages out at 3 stars!
Running up that hill is one of the best songs ever. Never had heard the rest of the album but honestly was a little bit disappointed just due to high hopes. I'd say it's a very cool album, lots of unique sounds and very futuristic. Jig of life and Hello Earth are other standouts. Solid album, maybe not fully my type of music but definitely some great songs.
Nice 80‘s Wave, Pop art Album with her greatest hits… 6/10
Running Up that Hill is tremendous obviously, that song alone is worth three stars, but nothing else really for me beyond that. Nothing hits the same. It almost starts too high as a track 1 and everything after is just immensely disappointing by comparison.
Top songs: Running up that hill (A Deal with God) Hello Earth Jig of Life
I just don't get as fanatical about KB as a lot of other people. There are some really great songs on here, no doubt. But others don't quite resonate.
I like the direction and kinda prog pop style (if that’s a thing) but man her voice never gets easier to listen to
The parts I liked would be a solid 4 but some parts veered into hard in the ears territory so had to average it out to a 3. Too gritty at points.
Insanely 80s
Kinda the same as my previous Kate Bush albums, not too intrigued, this one seemed better than the other ones though. Will I listen to again: 10%
2nd Kate Bush album in 4 days - it's okay. I don't think I'd choose to listen to it again, but wouldn't skip it.
Going back and forth between a 3 and 4. Some songs were great, some were nontraditional but worked (gave me Taylor Swiftish nontraditional song vibes). Then some were just straight up weird performance piece/modern dance songs.
Running Up That Hill has become an iconic song, and I liked a couple of the other earlier tracks too, but this got weirder and weirder as the album went on.
First 5 or 6 songs were pretty good but the others were so meaningless
Very much darker than anticipated. Still think Running up That Hill is the best song.
Day179 - i can’t wrap my ears around kate bush. i’ve read she was ahead of her time and maybe she still is
80s girl pop, synths and glassy vocals. The hugely popular opening track is indeed a banger. Loved the faint barking vocals in the song Hounds of Love. Along the middle it becomes a bit atmospheric and sounds as if something from a disney princess adventure. Jig Of Life with it's bagpipe like instrumentation is fun. Last two tracks forgettable.
Avant Garde 80’s pop. Not really my jam but much better than most 80’s pop.
Ég var frekar spenntur fyrir þessari plötu þegar ég sá hana á listanum og hún var mjög skemmtileg en fór stundum yfir í aðeins of mikla tilraunamennsku til að ég væri nægilega ánægður með hana. Minni tilraunamennska og hún hefði farið einni stjörnu ofar. Myndi vera í 3.5 en dreg hana niður fyrir leiðinlegu tilraunamennskuna.
Running up that hill is a real banger. Some other good songs - some not as good. Quite experimental
Side A: Nogle episke bangers i særligt Running Up That Hill og Cloudbusting.
Agreed : on top song and fine vibes of the 80s
How frustrating for Kate to have to wait 37 years for a song on this album to hit #1. She has one of those very identifiable voices that you recognize instantly as hers. I like most of the first side and some parts of the second, which is otherwise too spooky and witchy for me. I’d like the whole album more if it weren’t so earnestly dramatic. All in all, though, pretty cool and original. 3.2
I never listened to Kate Bush but have heard of her. I never saw Stranger Things, but knew it blew up "Running Up That Hill". I was curious to listen to this, but it didn't really strike me as a great album. It sounded like Tori Amos to me. So much so that I'm starting to think Tori Amos was doing a Kate Bush impression. Overall, the album is okay. It was probably inventive and bold for the time, but there's not a lot in the way of radio friendliness. Maybe it was more of a UK thing. Cute puppers on the cover though. 3.3
Ok. Not a huge Kate Bush fan
It was aight
Parts are good, parts are ok, parts are weird.
witchy
It’s an odd album. I thought it would be big standard 80s pop but it’s not. There’s a darkness to it that sort of seems like a precursor to emo. I liked it, for what it is.
First half really good. Second half bad.
Really good forward, progressive album, I think it is just the right mix of experimental and pop, and combined with her vocals it creates a pretty good album
Hey it's the song from stranger things
Favourite song - Running up that hill
Running up the Hill is a classic.... almost didn't recognize it immediately. Other pieces didn't recognize or enjoy as much other than the Jig of Life.
An album that every other sound was pretty good. The vocals, just like the last Kate Bish that I heard were all the same range and I just kinda got bored with this album quickly.
Enjoyed that more than I thought I would. Don’t know why, but I’ve spent my life avoiding listening to Ms Bush but now forced to listen to this album I gave in and can admit it was decent. I can’t stand ‘Hounds of Love’ which might explain my prior Bush-based intolerance. I’ve added half a dozen or so tracks to my library which will pop up from time to time and it will remind me how much I’m growing as a person 🤣.
It's the first time I've listened to a Kate Bush album in its entirety. I've had worse experiences, a bit weird and whacky in places as I expected. I was going to give it a 4, she is a fantastic songwriter and has a woderful voice, but the inclusion of 'The Jig of Life' knocks it down to a 3, as it just smelt of faux Irish bollocks like Ed Sheerhole's 'Galway Girl'. Songs like that should never exist, and if they do, then be treated with the derision they deserve.
never heard a song of hers before stranger things (and i don’t even watch stranger things). very cool post-prog project
Always love the ethereal vibes from Kate bush <3
Pretty wild, musically, but I liked it.
I feel like I'm not being let in on a big secret, why do large parts of the population absolutely rave about Kate Bush. The comments alone on youtube are bordering on fanatical. The album wasn't terrible, I made it all the way through and even enjoyed parts of it, but it's not one I'd actively pursue listening to again.
Sounds like magic music very fairy vibes Bit weird
Running up that hill is pop perfection, but the rest of the album never measures up to that feeling. Cloud busting is my next favorite.
I’ve never been a fan of Running Up That Hill, so I was afraid this would all be more of the same. It was and it wasn’t. Not bad. Songs added to Spotify: 1
I enjoyed it, I think I might give it a better rating if it wasn’t a part of this challenge and I had more time to relisten. The standout is definitely in the lyrics and the emotions they convey, my personal favorite was under ice.
3.5 cool experimental songs felt fantastical
I actually like Kate Bush when she sings like a normal human being
Best wel chill
Really classic album, i never even thought to listen to . Waking the witch has to be my favourite track on the album it really fought my attention :)
80s classic, some interesting stuff mixed in the middle of the album tho.
Banger to start the album. the rest was pretty good but nothing special
- all blended togethed
1st listen: the variety and horror elements of this witchy pop album are super cool. 🌟 the drum machine with the synth is vibes. i thought that waking the witch was going to take it to the next level with some proper metal but ig thats wishful thinking faves: mother stands for comfort, waking the witch i was sad when the album was finished second listen: using my computer speakers instead of my phone… honestly it wasnt as cool as i imagined as i listened on phone but still cool vocals also started to mildly annoy me but thats ok
Liked it. Didn't love it. Some good songs. Running Up That Hill, The Big Sky and Waking The Witch stood out. Kate Bush is immensely talented there's no denying that. Just not everything works. Still, it's decent and I'd be willing to give it another listen. This one might grow on me.
I love Kate Bush. But the Pet Shop Boy rap stuff in the deeper cuts was distracting. Running Up That Hill gets regular play.
Not my taste but not terrible. I remember when this album came out. Running up that hill was on rotation on KROQ.
More British bias. This album was #1 in Britain but barely cracked the top 40 in the US. I recall when this came out, it was "alternative" (in that it didn't really get airplay in the US because it wasn't the current sound). I didn't really like much of what was on the radio, and I knew a friend who was listening to this, so I was interested. After listening, I thought, "It's good, but not great", and that's still what I think. 3 stars.
Eh not a fan
Ahh wooop Ahh wooop Pixie voice
Few bangers on this album, but a lot of flickle
Honestly other than running up that hill- it’s just ok
Really interesting listen, and cool that this album has had a resurgence in the last couple years. Atmospheric, great vocals, and cool layering of sounds. Fits a certain mood very well. In my rating system a 3 is an album that I enjoyed listening to but won’t find myself coming back to much. This fits that, although it’s among the better 3’s I’ve given.
Dit was a weird journey
80’s synth vibes.
I liked every other song on this album. Felt like this wasn’t on this list then Stranger Things happened so they put it on this list. 6/10
Decent
Another member of the Bush family getting fame. What’s next for America? Jill Biden making a mixtape?
I only got a few songs in. It is good but not the sort of thing I want to listen to for an hour. I can see why other people love it.
Some good some a little meh
Good voice and good use of synth. This album kind of slides as it goes on.
Pretty unique i guess. Guess from poppy to like a weird monetary chant style something. And some Irish jig in there too. The end felt like being in a cave city from a fantasy book.
Running up that hill great song
I’m not the hugest Kate Bush fan but I give her props for the unique music she was making. I really wish I enjoyed her music more, because I really respect what she’s created, but it doesn’t always vibe with me. The first side of this album is all awesome art pop songs, and the second side is a weird concept about a lost woman. The concept album thing is definitely something Bush would delve deeper into on later albums like Aerial. Hounds of Love is definitely her magnum opus, although it’s not my favorite of her albums.
Some iconic tracks, but not my fav
Great.
This was a good album. Definitely 80s feeling and sounding. It’s a little cliche now but can totally see how innovative it was at the time since so many copied after her.
Interesting percussion! Lots of that “slappa da bass” running through the woods up that hill kind of sound. A more palatable weird girl sound- not as fucking weird as Nina Hagen but with some Brian Eno smoothness. The kind of record I’d put on to lull me to sleep after a 10 mg edible. Precursor to that garbage new age crap that every 8th grade art teacher would put on during class to inspire creativity. All in all not my cup of tea but the reverb heavy recording style screams itself to sleep by the very end.
Half the songs were interesting light pop music, the other half I didn't enjoy, so I'll give a 3. Stand-out: Running Up That Hill (A Deal with God)
This one to me is better in theory than execution - in other words, important but a little boring.
I have never listened to a Kate Bush album before, but I am a Bush fan. Seeing Running Up That Hill as the first track and my all time favourite Kate Bush song on this album got me really excited, and I am sad to say that this album was only fine. A third great and a third forgettable, sadly this album doesn't get a recommendation from me and I really hope Kate can win me back next time. Favourite track: Cloudbusting
Some good songs but also a few sounded very similar
Excellent start but lots of the songs were quite samey towards the end
I really liked the beginning of the album, however, it felt a little generic and a tad bit bland towards the back half. Overall it was a solid album with its ups and downs.
I have so much respect for this artist; her unique sound and smart business sense. She is a great role model and influence for many female musicians who have followed her. Problem is, he music pushes the same buttons for me as Tori Amos and Björk. With the exception of Running Up That Hill, wouldn't listen again.
Fine. Obviously running up that hill hits. But others left something to be desired. Irish undertones/melodies and influence were interesting and I liked that part
Album 325 of 1001 Kate Bush - Hounds Of Love Rating : 3 / 5 I wanted to like this more than I do. There is some earlier Kate Bush I like a lot but this just doesn't hit the same spot. Decent album but that is about it, for me.
It’s ok. Not my style but ok
7.5
A couple great tracks but it gets really weird and experimental. Not necessarily a bad thing tho. Tough to digest
Had a roommate who used to play the shit out of this to the point I was sick of it. But, good memories.
Good energy, fast and punk
This album was a mess. The first half seemed like she recorded the vocals first and then they made music around it, then we go into weird dream scapes? And then guess what all we wound up in Ireland and now we’re listening to Irish folk music, cool
While "Running Up That Hill" featuring in Stranger Things made Kate Bush a household name (and millionaire), "Hounds of Love" is easily the standout song on this album. In fairness, it's the only song I really knew of her's before this career revival. Plus, it inspired a pretty awesome cover by The Futureheads. After listening to this, Kate Bush has to be one of the most interesting artists of the 80s. I don't know how to explain it, but she feels the opposite of cheesy - even if some of her more experimental tracks don't quite work. "Cloudbusting" is a cool song (even if it could have been shortened to a much punchier tune). And "Watching You Without Me" is the definition of chill. However, there are a few clangers too. "Waking the Witch" sounds like an audio recording of amateur musical theatre. It sucks so bad that I considered giving this album a 1 Star Rating based purely on its inclusion. Artsy fartsy bullshit. Also, "Jig of Life" is the most embarrassing attempt at an Irish tune I've heard from a popstar since Ed Sheeran barfed up "Galway Girl". As a Newfie, this shit makes my skin crawl. Overall, this record is alright. I've got a soft spot for Kate Bush because I think she's cool.....and fit. 👍👍
I liked it a lot!
The first song is pretty good. The rest are a bit overwrought.
Never been a fan.
Música ochentera para disfrutar la nochentera! Los toques folk ya son maravilla pura
3.5 stars. Enjoyed this more than the other two Kate Bush albums that have come up so far. Starts off so strong with "Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)" and tails off a bit but is still pretty good overall. Didn't care for really weird "Waking The Witch". The ethereal "Cloudbusting" and up-tempo Irish "Jig Of Life" were the other standouts.
I've liked Kate Bush for a long time, but never loved her music. This album has her distinctive vocal sound (which I can't describe well). Highlights included "Running Up That Hill", "And Dream of Sheep" and "Jig of Life". Meanwhile, I found "Walking the Witch" and "Watching You Without Me" a little too weird for my tastes.
I had no expectations coming in to this (not even a genre). It was definitely less pop than I expected. I really enjoyed some of the tracks and others were not really to my taste. It seemed like there were some very bold choices and I learned what Uilleann pipes are. Tracks: 1 - A Bop. I'm not sure if I'm seeking it out to put it on any general playlists but I bet a lot of people are. 2 - I kept waiting for this build up to break into something else and it never did. 3 - This song was really good! 4 - Another fine track 5 - Oh This is interesting. That rhythm seems like it is building to something. 6 - So gentile and peaceful. Wasn't expecting a lullaby. 7 - Did this inspire the first track on the Frozen soundtrack? (that's a joke) This was an interesting listen but not something I'd revisit much. 8 - Started out nice and now I'm frightened. 9 - Kind of strange but still quite listenable. 10 - The groove on this one is great. Foot tapping commenced. I cannot break down the instrumentation very well but I'm loving it. 11 - Interesting 12 - Really enjoyed it!
listenable and interesting, favourite was cloudbusting
Really can't tell if I love or hate this album. All the songs feel like they have great parts and bad parts, very torn. Top tracks: Running Up That Hill, Cloudbusting
Me gusta más su primer disco, pero resulta original y distinto a los demás discos de la época.
3,4
One really good song. THe others are alright and make a good album altogether but I won't be listening to them on the regular.
It's a two, but, I'll give it a three for the banging opener. It's just a bit too 'artistic' for me. I get why it is adored though, perhaps more for folks of its time.
Excellent first side. Good the rest of the way through.
Some fun songs
Really disliked this album when I was younger. Not so bad now.
Unconventional and interesting, but probably not in the regular rotation. Happy to know it, though. She’s awesome.
Hey Stranger Things
running up that hill is def the standout single but enjoyed most the album and saved a few tracks
Kate Bush has some great instrumentals and very catchy songwriting, however I feel her lyrics are a little too repetitive. I enjoyed the album a lot but sometimes I was listening to the same words over and over and over again. Not bad, but not perfect. Standouts were Hounds of Love and Jig of Life.
Had never heard this album (or Kate Bush) before. On first listen, I didn't really like it (1-2 out of 5). Too all over the place: very 80s (synth etc.), very theatrical, very experimental. But on second listen, I started to get into it more (3/5), and after reading that Bush made the whole album by herself (supported by David Gilmour), I definitely respect it. I can imagine liking it more and more over repeated listens, once I get to know the individual songs more.
There are a couple of cool tracks, but I didn’t really like it
Not bad
Weird and better than I expected.
It was ok. I made it about half way through. Not really my kind of thing
The range in her voice, wow!
. Buena producción pero no me entusiasma Kate Bush
The album is decently experimental and it's impressive that it managed to become so acclaimed by the general public while pushing the boundaries of the genre – credit where credit is due. However, its experimentation was not the kind that I wanted to hear at this moment in time, maybe it was just a wrong moment for it and I'll have to revisit it in the future as often can the case with more "out there" and more conceptual art. All in all: around half of it was not an enjoyable listening experience for me, however, still very solid work.
Some shit songs and some great. Running Up That Hill is very overrated. Points for being unique though.
This probably was the weirdest shit in the 80s. Jig of Life really caught me off guard. Overall, not my cup of tea, but you really have to appreciate the artistic effort that this album radiates. 3.5/5
Clearly ahead of her time.
Given the objective to expand people's listening experience, I'm guessing it's not uncommon that we sometimes find albums "not my cup of tea".
not my music
Also quite outdated, but definetly Bush‘ best album. In the 80s I listened to it a lot.
hit and miss - some really creative and haunting melodies, but overall not my favorite.
Sounds like the 80's
„Running Up That Hill“ ist natürlich ein richtiger Hit. Vielleicht finde ich ja noch einen. Ach klar, „Cloudbusting“. Streckenweise für meinen Geschmack etwas zu viel und zu experimentell. Manchmal etwas leierig. Aber insgesamt gefällt es mir so gut, dass ich es sicher noch mal anmachen werde.
Kate is a hell of a poet, but there is a bit of a disconnect between her music and her lyrics. This is easily the best Kate Bush record of the 3 I've listened to thus far on this generator. I'm learning to understand this era of pop a bit more the more I proceed through this generator. I still don't care for it much, but I get it. If I had been the right age when this stuff was getting a lot of radio play, I probably would have been more receptive to it. Like when Running Up That Hill gained traction in the charts again because of Stranger Things.... That song is an ear worm. I found myself humming it for days! Jig of Life is a fucking banger! Completely unlike anything else on the record. It went from 80's pop to a Celtic jig in a jiffy! Favourite songs: Jig of Life, Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God), The Big Sky, Cloudbusting Least favourite songs: Mother Stands For Comfort, Under Ice, Waking the Witch 3/5
too bad HBO ruined this album. That somethings gonna happen song is dope.
Tager lige lidt tid at vænne sig til hendes noget specielle stemme, mende fleste sange er fine. Dog er Jig Of Life lidt weird....
Ich mag das Album... Ich weiß nicht ob ich es in meinen persönlichen 1001 Alben aufnehmen würde. Wenn ja könnte ich mir vorstellen dass es zu den Ersten Streichkandidaten gehören würde.
Really strange, but better than the other album
Naja, war mal gut, wirkt ein bisserl angestrengt
Listened to this before, starts off really strong but midway through becomes a weird Bjork tribute album and kind of loses its way
Before her time.
Quite nice actually
Gute, erste Lied ausm Album ist sehr bekannt, rest eher auch ein bisschen strange. Stehe neutral gegenüber.
Classic 80s ballad album Decent hits
Art pop, progressive pop, art rock, progressive rock, new wave. I didn't enjoy album much until the last bit (starting with Waking the Witch)
some of eveergreen melodies...
É kate bush, num tem muita coisa de especial
Running up that hill !! :D Otherwise I didn't really liked it
Magnifique voix mais je n'ai pas trop accroché aux chansons un peu expérimentales. L'ambiance générale m'a fait penser à Mylène Farmer et en cherchant, j'ai découvert que Kate Bush est son inspiration principale 😎
Cool stuff
Bonus star for dogs on the cover. Waking the Witch and Watching You Without Me are really strange songs. Running Up That Hill is a classic.
The Stranger Things song is great. The rest is ok
Mixed bag. It had highs but too much dated 80s pop for me.

Better than the last album of hers we reviewed
