Enjoyable but idk… people really talk this album up a lot. I should probably listen again some other time Album Cover - the purple? The hounds?? The hair?! 5/5

Aggressively 80's and REALLY fucking weird toward the end.

Obviously I know the famous tracks from this which sort of skews things a bit as the others didn't stand out as much. I would like to listen to this again at some point as the ones I know are amazing.

# Kate Bush, Hounds of Love, 1985 3* Kate's work has totally fallen off my radar since the 80s. This album came out when I was 8 and I didn't care about this style of music at the time. But I do have a fondness for 80s music, and Running up that Hill was a key part of Stranger Things and made me come back and love this song. I really liked the album and I can see why Bush has been so influential on pop music and the artists that followed her. I think Cyndi Lauper owes a lot of her style to Bush. ## "Running Up That Hill (A Deal with God)" 5:03 4* Classic, that I didn't appreciate at the time--but Stranger Things has made me love this song. The driving beats, the synth backgrounds, great vocals, and the great harmonies make this a classic. The song is about the yearning for a man and woman to try to understand each other without knowing each other's experiences. The deal with God is to ask for the chance to skip experiences. Running up a hill (road, building) is a way of saying "walk a mile in the others's shoes". ## "Hounds of Love" 3:02 3* I've nver heard this song before, but I can notice some trademark Kate Bush touches. Driving drum beats, synths, some classic influences with the string instruments accompanying. The song's optimism and curiosity is fun. ## "The Big Sky" 4:41 * Kate has some driving beats behind her, piano. Great vocals. Good guitars. The production is good, great levels on everything. It sounds like it was ahead of its time. ## "Mother Stands for Comfort" 3:07 2* Not my style. Too experimental. The vocals are haunting, the synth sounds like a bad sci-fi movie to me. With the random vocal screams. Lots of fun layers in the song though. ## "Cloudbusting" 5:10 4* This is a great song. I like the strings, beat, the melody. This sounds a lot like Running up that Hill to me with Kate starting to belt out the chorus and the backing instruments coming in a little later to match her vocal intensity. I love that conflict between the vocals and music. ## "And Dream of Sheep" 2:45 3* Too soft and slow for my taste. The music and production are great. Kate was sampling some radio/TV clips in the song which I don't think was that popular yet in 1985. ## "Under Ice" 2:21 4* Love the opening, I think all the strings are synthesized. The song is about a skater, on ice, all alone. She notices something under the ice, it ends up being the singer--who starts to drown. More sound samples in here that are not overdone. ## "Waking the Witch" 4:18 3* Not my cup of tea. I can hear the artistry, but it's a bit too schizophrenic and abstract for me. ## "Watching You Without Me" 4:06 3* A ghost returns to see live lived without her. Those backward vocals are cool. Interesting synth sounds. I liked this better than most of the other songs I rated as a 3*, so this might even be a low 4*. ## "Jig of Life" 4:04 4* A woman encourages her younger self to fight. I love the fiddles and the driving beat. Great vocals and levels. Fun rhymes and melody. ## "Hello Earth" 6:13 3* Soft, slow, pensive. Not bad, but not my favorite. Great vocals and strings. ## "The Morning Fog" 2:34 3* A good ending to the album, and by now I'm able to see the common thread throughout Kate Bush's songs (at least on this album). Her vocals are great, the production is on point. The drums are usually a big part of the song. I think Cindy Lauper borrowed a lot of style from Bush.

Lots of wild synth sounds accompanied by a full orchestra. The singles are good, but I didn't enjoy it overall.

What the fuck was that?

Wild and weird - Some of it I hated, most of it I liked, some of I loved.

I kind of liked this. I'm just as surprised as you are.

It’s alright. Definitely seemed progressive for its time.

overrated

Definitely headlined by Running Up That Hill but the poppy sounds and added effects help to round out of the rest of the album. A before it’s time album that laid groundwork for genres and styles after it to do it better.

I liked jig of life. Great voice. But not a huge fan of this kind of music or of Kate bushs sound

Constantly wavering between symphony and cacophony. Interesting for the most part but didn't have me moved

Honestly, I don't like running up that hill. I preferred most of the rest of the album over it. I didn't like it years before, I didn't like it when it got overplayed from stranger things, I don't like it now. Not my thing.

Very mediocre

some radio hits, but fairly boring for the most part

I wish I had got this album before all the kids got ahold of Running Up that Hill via Stranger Things and all the adults tried to be cool by playing it incessantly. Now I feel jaded and like I have to knock that song or this album down a peg or two to show I'm not getting swept up in the once-again fad. Still, that song was a massive hit in the 80's and likely one of the few remembered songs of Kate Bush before all this nonsense from a couple years ago. It is a solid tune but I think Cloudbusting is the superior single. The Big Sky wasn't too bad either. Side one is so typically 80's with the musical accompaniment (i.e., fake music as my sister calls it). But it's solid. Side two gets weirder. Dream of Sheep is a beautiful, simple piece that focus mostly on Kate's voice and piano. But then the synth comes back as well as backup singers with intentionally weird or haunting voices (Under Ice, Waking the Witch, even Watching You Without Me). I get that side two is more of a concept album telling a connected story. But it's a bit like Thriller gone wrong for that three song sequence. Jig of Life has a cool Celtic sound and The Morning Fog had some good energy, despite slipping back into a predictable 80's formula. Feels like a 3.5 but I'm rounding down.

Pretty good.

Artisti käytti kolme vuotta puskemaan tämän ulos The Dreamingin jälkeen - onko B-puolen "taide" todella perusteltua?

Lazy Sunday afternoon essential

It was unique. Good. Not great.

Fiona Apple precursor. Enjoyed the unique vocals effects and percussion choices. The close attention to the environments created in each song reminded me of Lana. The album could stand beside other art-pop/experimental-pop like FKA twigs, Melane Martinez, Fiona & Lana, etc. Cohesive across most of the tracks but switches it up enough to be worth playing through. 6.5/10

God it had to be this one!

nothing to catch the ear

Not bad. Knew most of it

Love songs over cheesy synths Bush >>> murdering millions of innocent people in the Middle East Bush

Really good, creative pop music. Some is very experimental but she has such a solid, unique voice.

Some good songs, but nothing memorable - at least not to me. Also, I kinda hate that "Running Up That Hill" has 1 billion plays on Spotify simply because of that dumb show stranger things. Awful awful stuff. There are better songs, like Cloudbusting or Under Ice . Just my opinion. Overall an album that I listen to, I don't dislike, but nothing that I would add to my list of favorites. That spot is for Wuthering Heights.

Lots of sounds. Barking, seagulls, breaking glass, and Kate blending in there somewhere. I liked it. I felt like I was playing a really old JRPG.

Hairspray bjork. Pretty good considering I don’t usually like 80s. 3.5.

Not a genre that I like but I enjoyed half of it

Both the album cover and actual music feels old. It was an interesting listen with many unorthodox songs, but it's hard to say whether I liked it or not. 'Quirky' is probably a good way to describe this album, and a bit all over the place. Not something I'll return to for sure.

I remember first hearing "Running up that Hill" in an interview for Pitchfork where "Big Boi" was talking about it, was immediately impressed with the song. So going into this album I had high hopes. I thought it was ok but nothing quite reached the same height of "Running up that Hill" although i thought "Hound's of love" was good too. I was also today years old when i saw that there were two dogs on the cover so TIL.

Some really nice songs but a bit too artsy white girl vibes for my liking

Decent. A bit weird...i think that's par for the course when it comes to kate bush?

somewhat boring b-side for me, i do understand the people that find that kind of thing very pretty and everything but i do not care for it myself. meanwhile, the a-side has running up that hill and the big sky, so it's not all bad. somehow "hello earth" reminded me of the spirit of eden by talk talk in that it does almost nothing for most of its runtime

Has some bangers but drops off toward the end

Was looking forward to this when I saw who it was, but am left a bit disappointed, I'm sure that's all on me. Still an ok album but I just expected Shakeshack but got Mcdonalds.

Good one. Running up that Hill is the obvious standout. The other tracks are not ones I felt I needed to hear again. Three stars.

Not my style but she’s pretty talented.

I know Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God) got a lot of attention in recent years due to Stranger Things, but I actually somehow avoided it until this moment. I'm glad it found me, because this is a goddamned jam. The synth work and composition have all the markings of 80s pop, but I love the experimental feel of it all. Bush's vocals sound almost ghostly on top of the driving, yet sparse instrumental. The title track continues with the same vocal effect. Honestly I'm really into it. Really makes me want to put on my matching aerobics set. The Big Sky jams. After this point, I let the album drift to the background. I find it interesting, but not captivating. I'll try another listen tomorrow to see if I can sink in a bit more. Mother Stands For Comfort is an interesting one that feels like an experimental electronic song centered around a slithery electronic bassline with all sorts of crashing in the background. After another listen, I find myself feeling similar to the first go round -- basically I find this to be an interesting listen with some standout songs, but on the whole I wasn't really sucked in. I appreciate the experimental nature of the instrumentals and composition as a whole, but there wasn't enough for me to really want to come back for repeated listens. 3 / 5.

Not my cup of tea

Liked it a lot more than I expected. Very different tracks but come together really well.

Some of this doesn't age gracefully - but it has some seriously great songs.

I might listen to the album again

Heard it before?: Yes Enjoy it?: Yes, I’d really like this one, strong start and finish present here! Favourite song: Track 1 - Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)

There are some good songs here but too much of a good thing for me.

Can see how some would like this. Think that I’m being swayed a little too much by stranger things.

Quite an interesting album. Firstly, the vibes are immaculate all the way through. The music is ghostly and otherworldly, yet dazzling at the same time. However, though the album has many high points, it's lows are just as prominent. Some of the strangest songs I've ever heard, to be honest. Every other song feels like it was composed by an alien who's music theory is vastly different from ours. I don't want to say it was bad, but it was so different that it was jarring. Overall, I enjoyed listening to this album, there are some songs I'll come back to, but I'm not sure id recommend to anyone I know to listen to the full thing.

Running Up That Hill-🔥(10) Hounds of Love- Its aight(7) The Big Sky- Generic (6) Mother Stands For Comfort- MOTHER🎤(8.5) Cloudbusting- Pretty Fire, Beat Slaps)9) And Dreams Of Sheep- Its good (7.5) Under Ice- Underrated, best on album(10) Jig of Life- Fire ass Beat (9) Waking the Witch- wth (4.5) Watching You Without Me- A weird ring to it, almost not mid but still(6.5) Jig of Life- Fire ass Beat (9) Hello Earth- Alright(7.5) The Morning Fog- Groovy End(8) Summary: A New Genre For me, I liked the sound and idea. Most songs were good, some misses, but overall a good listen

outside of "running up that hill(a deal with god)" which is a TikTok famous song, everything else was ok!

a very nice art pop record and although the first side has my favourite Kate Bush song (y'all know wich one it is) I liked the second side more mainly because it is very experimental and "artsy". Good record 3/5

Nothing special. The songs were okay. 3/5

Some really good songs on here. A lot of it is a bit too wispy and whimsical for me to give it another full listen, but I enjoy quite a lot of this album.

The album starts with the Kate Bush classic: Running Up that Hill (A Deal with God). It's all downhill from there! LOL. Joking! Kate Bush does not go down easy for me. She has an odd sound and it takes some time to get used to and start to enjoy. Standouts: Running Up that Hill, Hounds of Love, Cloudbursting, The Big Sky. Songs like Mother Stands for Comfort are not as exciting as some of her other songs, but this is the kind of stuff that I like the most. Same goes for And Dream of Sheep. Hello Earth is another wonderful song and a great way to end a very good album. But, then it followed with The Morning Fog... That one should have been put somewhere else in the album. Overall 3.5/5

I can recognize that things are going on here, but it doesn't make much of an impression on me. I didn't really like the first half. Back half got weird, sometimes in a good way.

Track 1 ================================================ Aight, we're in the 80s Track 2 ================================================ Classic 80s snare Track 4 ================================================ This one's funky. Dig the weird bass Track 6 ================================================ I like this one Track 7 ================================================ This one too Track 8 ================================================ Alright this album's growing on me. This shit's weird Track 9 ================================================ Some of these songs sound like they could be background music in a video game Track 10 ================================================ Almost thought some of these songs gave me Enya-ish/Irish Folky vibes, this one just goes all in on the idea Track 11 ================================================ I was pretty skeptical about this album at first, and almost abandoned the whole project after being disappointed with yesterday's album, but I'm glad I gave Kate Bush a chance

Running Up that Hill is probably the most recognizable song on this album, but it's easy to see how Kat Bush walking allowed artists like Tori Amos, Sarah McLaughlan, and others to run.

Is creative She absolutely influenced a new age of pop and electric blend. I love the Celtic tones. The music is a like spacey and sometimes loses the concept. Overall I enjoyed it but did not love. One more hit and I would give it a 4.

Tasteful eighties synth production. Great vocal performance and solid songs.

Running up that hill a classic

Melodramatic 3/5

Bon depart, milieu meh, bonne fin

This sounds like two different albums. I would recommend the first half of the album but the second half seems to steer into the parts of Kate Bush's discography that I don't enjoy as much. The first 4-5 albums are great, but the latter half is tougher. Almost great and I would put it on the list just to show what Kate Bush could sound like.

Started off decent slowed down and some song got weird 3.25

Has the same sound as "The Dreaming", but with much less silly charm.

This album probably saw a huge global ratings bump after stranger things came out—and that definitely is the best song on the album—but overall I was slightly underwhelmed. I don’t know how to describe it because the songs both sound ahead of their time and really 80s in a weird bad way. I think I generally liked it but feel victim to high expectations because of how huge running up that hill is. Definitely a high 3

I like Kate Bush. I'd like to love Kate Bush. Her music is bold and adventurous and experimental but it always remains in that 'respect and admire' zone for me. I really enjoyed the first five songs on this album. The second half, which is apparently a mini concept album, not so much. I couldn't get into it. Maybe I should seek out a greatest hits compilation because even her singles are nothing like what I would consider mainstream pop. "Running Up That Hill" is stunning and the songs that follow it here are almost equally bold.

Being a human being in 2022 I was of course inundated with "Running Up That Hill" because it was on the TV show Stranger Things that year. That being said I thought that the song was just OK and I'm a bit jaded or burned out with it because it was played a little too much. It's a nice song, it's catchy, it's cool. I don't know if it's really groundbreaking or anything but I have heard a lot of people say that they like Kate Bush and maybe this is one of her better records? The rest of the album was alright and consistently did it's thing. Her sound isn't my favorite but I think it wouldn't take much to get me to like her, I just haven't taken that step yet.

This really wasn't my favourite, but it was weirdly cool, and I'm glad she made it.

I liked Running Up That Hill and Cloudbusting. Some of the others were fairly insufferable though.

Decent stuff. Funny that Runnin up that Hill became such a cultural phenomena. 3/5

Solid 3, like the experimental touch

I listened to this album over the summer expecting to love it because 'Running Up That Hill' is one of my favorite songs of all time. But oh goodness. Her voice is kind of cringy, the songs almost have too much character, and it's just so...80s. It's all over the place and weird. "Jig of Life" was so uncalled for. I relistened to it and I'm at the same conclusion. Settling in the middle because it's not that bad and 'Running Up That Hill' is a 6 star track, but this would be a two otherwise. Also now I have to prepare for a slew of shit albums since we got like 3 hits in a row. What a sh*t show.

This album was like that drunken night out. You know the one I’m talking about. It starts off so strong, you’re pregaming with all the girlies and getting sloshed off tequila shots and seltzers. You head out to the club and dance to some fantastic EDM hits for a bit. A creepy guy finds his way over to you and tries to dance with you for a while (represented in the album by Mother Stands for Comfort). The night starts to get back on track, your friends are all starting to find cute men that seem cute through the flashing lights and blurred vision. You yourself find a cute boy who asks to dance. You’re moving your hips in all the ways you should but the alcohol is really starting to kick in now. Everything’s alright though, the night goes on, it’s just not quite at the same level as the start of the night. Slowly your friends start to disappear into Ubers with their newfound men. You can choose to either go home alone, again, or make the same questionable choices that they are - go home with a stranger. You decide to say fuck it, let’s have a night to remember. This could be the Jig of [your] Life. You get back to his apartment. It gets hot and steamy, he throws you down on the bed. Oh my, it’s happening! And just as it’s all about to go down… oh, oh no. Whiskey dick. *sigh* You grab your shoes and slink home in The Morning Fog just as your mystery man passes out facedown on the bed. Another night of hope ending in disappointment.

Not bad. I wasn't very focused listening to it.

give me the futureheads over this any day.

Can't believe she covered The Futureheads. Thats so cool

Don’t get me wrong, Running Up That Hill is great and catchy, but I think the existence of Jig of Life is what justifies the whole album for me. Good 80’s pop with some weird tangents that I think are so neat to see.

Good one.

Dange stranger things. Finds net überragend aber OK, sehr spezieller Gesang

Not bad, but it got a bit boring for me after the first few songs. I thought it was going to be like it with maybe a couple more highlights if I'm lucky. But then "The Ninth Wave" part was really interesting. I enjoyed that half of the album a lot, even if not all the songs ended up on my playlist and it also got a little boring towards the end. I think the songs were all twice as long as they should have been because really none of them were bad. Songs I Already Knew: Running Up That Hill (A Deal with God) Songs I Really Liked: Running Up That Hill (A Deal with God), Hounds of Love, The Big Sky, And Dream of Sheep, Under Ice, Watching You Without Me, The Morning Fog

All of a sudden Kate Bush is being discovered and heralded as a great female vocalist thanks to Stranger Things. She's always been in that hmmm, I don't know if I like it or if this is out of my league. Hounds of Love spans a range of styles, some fun and some straying into Fine Arts major justifying 'their creativity'. 3.5/5.

This is a really bold album. The tracks are so strange in places, with tons of variation is music and tone. It's not a typical singer-songwriter approach at all. Overall I found it interesting.

Opened with a track that’s super popular right now, a few meaningless but fun songs after that which had me thinking I might not mind this album Then it got weird, did not enjoy: And dream of sheep, waking witch, jig of life I suppose that might be a metaphor for life, and in the end, the album ends 3/5

Enjoyable.

I mean yea its high quality but doesn't really do it for my taste

This is alright. A single vocalist with backing music, it's very chill. I love that Stranger Things created a resurgence for Kate Bush.

Zoals Watching You Without Me en Waking the Witch.

Some great songs and some weird songs very interesting album worth a listen at least once.

Cool but a lil dramatic to listen to often.

Interesting, eclectic, but definitely dated. Running Up That Hill is the only song that really grabs me and that has a lot of nostalgic elements. Jig Of Life is another track I could spend time with. I don't think this album aged so well, but it's existence does hold some merit.

Actually, better than I thought it would be, though a couple of them got a bit too experimental for my tastes.

Not really my style but love the nostalgia and the stranger things reboot tie here.

Starts off with a song everyone knows. And re-knows. I cant really get into the rest as much.

It really starts strong and it is solid, interesting, ethereal at times and pretty inventive. But it takes a crazy turn at Waking the Witch and then doesn't seem to get back on track.

Heart sank when this was my next recommendation. In the year Running up the hill has been played to death thanks to stranger things. But I was surprised how much I enjoyed it. Some great songs and a pleasant atmospheric listen

I'll give her this - her sound is very unique. The first half of the CD are more radio-friendly songs like "Running Up That Hill," which are okay. The back half becomes a concept album with the songs pretty much the same.

Pop progresivo. Ni fu ni fa.

First half is beautiful, running up that hill is the song of all time, then it dives into more experimental and weird pop songs. Queen.

Cloudbusting slapped lot of flops though

Alright, Kate Bush. Let's try this again. Running Up That Hill is pretty great. And that Gen X music snob inside me really wants to not like it because it got popular again through a nostalgia porn show. But it's good! Still, I feel the same way I do about this one as I did the last one - there's something that's too much about it. It's like fingernails on a chalkboard. I can't do it.

Enjoyed this one much more than the last Bush (unlike the Presidents Bush), but I've got some work to do before I'd call myself a fan. The first track is a no-brainer, and I am on board with the 80s synth pop moments here. But in other areas it's just all a bit too theatrical for me and my persnickety druthers. I see signs that I could warm up to it eventually, so just be patient bros.

Great palette of sounds that feel like they were way ahead of their time. Combined with Kate Bush's unique vocals and irresistible charisma; This makes for a great listen.

Pretty cool offbeat pop, didn't fall into that "1 big single + crap" basket, so that's nice. Couldn't say I'd regularly listen to it but I respect it. 3/5.

I liked it a bit, was kind weird tho

so cheesy the song she's known for is the first one not as bad as I kinda expected though 3.5

The entire album sounds exactly the same

I've listened to this album a lot recently, as my daughter discovered it via Stranger Things. I don't recall being interested in it back when it came out, but I enjoy it now!

Everyone knows Running Up That Hill, and if they didn't they did during the Stranger Things resurgence. I don't know what I expected but overall, a solid album overall but nothing stands out quite like that first track.

I’ve heard this one a few times. It does get better each time I hear it, but most of the time, I feel like it is the first time hearing it… none of the songs, besides Running Up that Hill, stick with me - at first. 3.5/5

glad she got her due. 3? 4? Ranking a 3 although I like her stuff, because she's clearly an icon.

Feels like Kate Bush is putting me to sleep - but that's not a bad thing. This is not so much an album but an experience, and there's nothing quite like it. It sings you a lullaby, it wakes you up and takes you to a dream world, it evokes some religious imagery, it sounds like witchcraft, it all just sounds extremely unique. That said I don't think I would go back to this album very often, but I do appreciate how it sounds, and I have to give props to some of the standout tracks like Running up that Hill, The Big Sky, & And Dream of Sheep.

Gillar nog Cloudbusting bättre än Running up that hill.

3.5 I don’t even watch Stranger Things and I know Running Up that hill because of it. Listening to it here I wonder about it’s context in the show. Nevertheless this was pretty okay. I liked a lot of the music but her voice was a little off at times. I could see her unusual style growing on me over time but for now it’s my biggest detractor. Moody and pretty catchy, I’ll probably be listening again. Favorites: Running Up That Hill, Mother Stands for Comfort, Cloudbusting, Jig of Life, The Morning Fog

Interesting album. One big hit.

Like the voice. Some songs were good.

I want to like this. I might like it better after more careful listening, but I did not enjoy the first time thoroughly. Some of the songs do not appeal to me at all.

Creative, but not really my sort of thing.

Kinda cool, but still not my cup of tea.

Liked some of the songs, not something I’ll likely listen to again.

Some great genrebending ghosty music blended with a couple of low points. While Bush’s experimental sound has produced a wide breadth of music, the tracks that works are a pleasure. 3,7 ish

Good album, I heard of her from Jermaine Clement

decent

good!! but it feels like i should relisten to it to fully “get it”

Three for basically one song.

Reminded me of childhood times on my Casio keyboard. The electric drums kicking the rhythm.

Decent album. Good songs and a lot of creativity, but I am not in love with it.

Didn’t expect to enjoy this but I did. Cloudbusting especially

75% nice. Couple songs I can do without.

Couple of good songs.

The beginning starts off with 2 good songs and then nothing.

It was ok

I was not familiar with Kate Bush until Running Up That Hill was played during Stranger Things. Everyone then proceeded to cream their jeans over that song and Kate Bush. Running Up That Hill is featured on this album. The album is definitely an 80s album with a hint of Irish music. I didn't skip any songs. Not sure I would listen to the entire album again.

shes got a good voice

Got kind of strange towards the end of the album, but otherwise, it was an enjoyable listen.

not a huge fan of the ballads

This is just so quintessentially 80s for me I cannot listen to it with an unbiased ear. Great to see an old album getting attention from a younger audience with Stranger Things. I really did enjoy Big Sky which was a tune I was not aware of. Good enough but probably won't listen again!

This is perfect timing because Hounds Of Love by Kate Bush sits at or near the top of the charts 37 years after it's original release. Thanks to the TV series, Stranger Things, which takes place in the 80's, the song, "Running Up That Hill"'s appearance on the show has somehow revived the interest in the song, album and Kate Bush. Remember Kate Bush? I do, she was very popular in the 80's, maybe more so in the UK, but I know a lot of people that are big fans of her music. Me, not so much. I never got into her music then and after re-listening to Hounds Of Love, it still doesn't do much for me. Maybe it's her vocal delivery or maybe it's just the songs are not interesting to me. I found myself wanting to listen to something else about halfway through this album, but I stuck it out. The power of nostalgia in soundtracks and songs in TV/movies is real, as the Clash's, Should I Stay...played a prominent role in the first couple seasons of Stranger Things and I'm hoping Jonathan introduces more cool music to Will...The Replacements, Husker Du, R.E.M...perhaps?

An 80s album that has surprisingly stood the test of time - whether the choice to put Bush's enamoring, demanding vocals forward in the mix or to eschew the dated synth sounds of the time, this LP still holds up today. Not every track is a winner, with the slower pieces coming closest to evoking the dreaded stereotypes of the decade, but when the tempo keeps pace the album charges forward triumphantly.

First song is a classic, this is the type of 80s I enjoy.

I was recently introduced to Running Up That Hill and was immediately drawn to that powerful 80s track. However, I think this album may have hit its high point on the opening song. Waking the Witch caught my attention, but still doesn't live up to the epic proportions of the initial track. I enjoy the vocal production throughout the album, but I find the instrumentation to be repetitive (until the Jig of Life comes out of nowhere). Overall a cool, spooky listen, but not an album I will be coming back to often. I will be listening to Running Up That Hill a bunch though. Fave tracks: Running Up That Hill, Running Up That Hill, Running Up That Hill

Liked this much better than The Dreaming but I still don’t like her vocals. 5/10

First couple of songs were instant hits. Couldn’t keep the pace up by the end. Great synth sounds.

Lækker vokal, god sangskrivning, melankolsk

Running Up That Hill is an absolute gem. I was quite familiar with that one before today. The rest...well I think no need time with it. I like it more than The Dreaming but I wasn't really wowed by it. I feel like this one has serious grower potential. A 3 for now

Not my cup of tea

Meh, excellent music writer but it doesn't translate to listenable music. In my opinion.

Only really known the singles so wasn't sure what to expect. Definitely a little odd but pleasantly surprised.

13th April 2022 Listened in the morning and finished the morning after. Chilled at guys in the day, went to buy Flynn some boxing gloves and Costco trip. Elemental, ethereal, totally unique. She is an artist in every sense of the word in the same way as Bowie.

Listened Before? N Well, I see where Tori Amos got her sound now. Pretty much a straight rip of this sound. Here’s the thing though, I’ll always like Tori better because I grew up with her. Her topics are edgier too, which I like. That being said, this is decent. It’s a little bit repetitive in some songs but overall good. I love this version of running up that hill! Added to Library? N Songs added to Playlist: Running Up That Hill

A hit-packed side 1 followed by a suitably Kate Bush-y experimental side 2.

Early Kate Bush has become a secret love of mine. She's very unique and this album has her best hit, in my opinion. Running Up That Hill is massive. The rest is not as profound, but still good 80s music.

Never been a Kate Bush fan, though I don't think I ever listen to entire album. Well still not a fan, just not style of music but I can appreciate the music.

Enjoyed this more than I expected

I groaned when I saw I got yet another Kate Bush album. But it turned out this one wasn't as bad as the other two. I wasn't crazy about it, and maybe it's because I've had a string of bad albums, but I thought it was okay. 2.5/5

To me, Kate Bush is a lot like soccer (or football as some of you may call it). Please allow me to explain. I have several friends, whose opinions I respect, who tell me that soccer is the best sport. It's intricate, nuanced, and beautiful to watch. I believe them, really I do, and because of that I've tried several times over the years to watch and appreciate soccer. Occasionally there are matches or moments in a match when I sort of get it, but 90% of the time I'm like eh, kinda bored to be honest. It's very similar to my experience with Kate Bush. 3 stars.

Great sound and production but I felt like the songs lacked direction. The avant garde approach to pop wasn’t that entertaining to me, and the generally slow tempo of the songs never really got me into them.

Definitely need more time with this album and perhaps an understanding of the context in which it was created. At this point, I definitely am appreciating the album but maybe am not enjoying it.

This album has songs with a ton of plays but I just think this is boring. Not particularly great singing and forgettable songs. 6/10.

Assez surprenant!

A very good record by an influential artist... that doesn't move me too much.

This was definitely artistic, I don't think it was that good, however.

Like Tori Amos buy more 80s than 90s

Pop. Folk. Melódico. Aburridito

Definitely not your average 80's pop star. I always liked her voice, and now that I listen to music differently than I did decades ago (something we all go through, I'm sure), I hear her music with more appreciation than I did when I was an 80s teen. What a wonderful sense of melody. Musically, it's the mid-80s so there is no shortage of programmed drums and synths, which is fine, but after listening all the way through I was ready not to hear programmed drums for a while. Overall, though, good stuff here. (Fun to see Donald Sutherland in her video for 'Cloudbusting', too!)

A real mix. When the tunes hit, they really hit but sometimes it's a bit to whispy and twee. Best Tracks: Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God); Hounds of Love; Cloudbursting

opening songs are bangers, album fades away as it goes along but an album I could always drift out of in the background.

A real mixed bag, very top heavy. Running Up That Hill is a gem, Cloudbusting, The Big Sky, and Hounds of Love also good (but better when done by the Futureheads). Then it gets worse from there. Just sneaks into the 3/5 range.

I would probably have loved it if I was an angsty teenager in the late 80s

I enjoyed this although it seemed very long.

Was looking forward to this but a little bit disappointed. Quite a lot of filler in amongst the good ones.

Upbeat, Cindy Lauper vibes

Saved Prior: Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God) Off Rip: Hounds of Love Cutting Edge: The Big Sky Overall Notes: There's cool pop in here but the second half is not what the doctor ordered. 2.5 rounded up because at the end of it I felt like I had listened to something, which may or make not make sense?

Enjoyed this album….

Not a fan of the synth pop on the first side, I feel like this style of music has not aged well at all. I get it was novel at the time but a lot of music seems to have suffered to simplistic boring overuse of synth. However, the second side is an extremely creative concept album with all kinds of different sounds and songs, regardless of my opinion, it’s an undeniable work of art. So 3 stars for being half weak and half awesome.

Not my personal favorite, but not bad.

hmmm i appreciate the atmospheric sound but it's not for me

Haunting if a little repetitive.

Jig of life très bon Le reste un peut lent, voix onirique Asmr avant même son invention

I don't think I've listened to a full album by Kate Bush before. "Running Up That Hill" was the only song that was familiar to me from this album. Bush has a good voice, and there are songs that I like from her. I don't feel a desire to come back for the full album again.

The first few tracks were quite nice. A lot better than her other album. The final few tracks were a bit too folky or weird for me.

Listened to this a week or so ago. Why? So I could articulate why Kate and Tori are different blends of tea.

Was so excited to listen to this - I love Kate Bush. But never given a whole album the time of day. I liked a few of these well enough, especially the first track, but most of it I found a bit...meh. I think I prefer 1979 Kate Bush

Only a few good tracks

dystopian pop, reminds me of that apple commercial where she throws the hammer though the screen.

3+ All over the place but interesting.

Fun 80s new wave album. Cool to hear early electronic tracks like these.

Dated, but also simultaneously way ahead of it's time. It's neat, experimental, and feels like my head is stuck in the clouds, while also having a solid narrative. I liked it. Frozen lakes man. Fuck that.

Some crackers but got a bit samey near the end.

Love the 80s but not too 80s vibe of this album. The first song is absolutely amazing... unfortunately it kind of goes downhill from there. Songs are a little unremarkable and end up getting stranger throughout. Cool use of effects at their disposal. Might end up giving it another listen but maybe not.

Not typically my type of music. I enjoyed the first track a lot, it’s one I knew. The rest of the album ranged from weird and not great to pretty good. I won’t revisit this but can see it as a step towards stronger female singers

I can certainly appreciate this album as “art”, it picked a direction and really went with it. Maybe it’s an acquired taste, as I started listening I found it pretentious, grating, and almost unlistenable, but I warmed up to it by the time I reached the end. I thought there were some things that were really interesting production-wise and the lyrics are evocative and well-crafted.

Interesting pop album. First song was ok but everything else was meh and skippable. The jig song was even more questionable. 2.2/10 Edit: I received this album far too early in my list selection. I admit that I rated this far too low and this album deserves respect. Running Up that Hill is phenomenal. The whole album is deserving of recognition. 7.0/10

Not bad. Love running up the hill. Rest not much beat to it.

Great 80’s vibes. Dig the use of percussion. Fun styles sprinkled throughout the album.

I had a pretty hard time connecting to Kate Bush's art pop album from the mid 80s. The 80s production works well, and Bush displays a lot of talent in concept, lyrical work and performance. But I just couldn't connect to the album in general, everything came off quite distant to me for whatever reason. Maybe it's an album that needs more listens to find those connections but it may take a while for me to be inspired to try it again.

Cloudbusting stood

It was ok. Experimental 80’s pop?

Melhores: Mother Stands For Comfort, Jig Of Life e Cloudbusting

Not my cup of tea. Some great songs but personally I feel like its overrated

3 stars alone for the opening two tracks. There’s some genius stuff here but its just a bit weird for me to score any higher.

Mother Stands For Comfort is probably my favorite from the album because of the weird instrument sounds. However I wasn't a fan of Waking the Witch and the songs after that.

That was a strange journey. There is some beautiful experimentation that seems to combine the familiar and foreign. I definitely feel there is a dip in quality after running up that hill but it picks back up once you hit "Jig" on the album. It's weird and sometimes weird for the sake of weird. I don't feel she is a good singer, barking and hissing out her words, but I feel she would make a great producer (or at least an interesting one).

I quite like Running Up That Hill. The rest of the album was sort of mixed bag, but in the end just not really spectacular enough to really grab my attention.

good but fairly unlistenable if that makes sense

Very strong first couple of tracks, with the first being the most successful single on the album and probably my favorite. The album gets progressively more experimental-sounding and "out there" towards the end, which is admirable but falls flat on a few tracks. I'd probably stop halfway through on future listens.

It's Kate Bush, it's alright. She has a distinctive vocal style which I like, and some creative instrumentals

I quite liked this one, especially side 1. Running up that hill  .. . is a damn good hit and remains easy to listen to decades later. Her vocals were also very strong.

good stuff, hadnt listened to her before.

Some very good songs. The rest were decent if not mind blowing.

Some stellar tracks but as an album it’s not that consistent.

Starts off strong. Really enjoyed the Jig, but the Witches one was a bit odd.

Not bad

Unique but not my cup of tea, a lot of fillers between the thrillers.

First song was great and then it slowly went downhill.

it's good.

Pretty good

Pretty good album. Thank god she wrote the running up that hill song!

Strong opening which gave way to some self indulgent tracks but Kate is so charismatic she carries it off

I appreciate the unique sound and experimental pop, though I don't particularly enjoy most of it. If I heard this without context and had to guess when this music was from I would have probably guessed much later than 1985, a testament to its progressive sounds and the influence it has had on other musicians.

definitely different

great pulse, donna summer-esque, but too repetitive

I like the concept/ideas Kate Bush does more than the execution, unfortunately. I really wanna like her, but it doesn't get there all the way for me. She's kind of a mix between Tori Amos and Bjork for me. "Running up that Hill" is a classic though, perfect 80s electronica-darkness. Definitely more of a Bjork fan here. 3.5 down to 3.

Jaa men bra iaf!

Very good

Running up that hill is a great song

Production quality not as good as O expected from her , album got weird during second half and it got a weird pacing but overall a good album

it was OK, but not my thing

Lots on this album that was new to me, not all to my taste

Classic 80s!

Favorites: Hounds of Love, Mother Stands for Love Running up that Hill: interesting synths - 0.75 Hounds of Love: Very fast-paced - 1 The Big Sky: meh - 0.5 Mother Stands for Comfort: i love everything here, from the beat to the synths, to the vocals - 1 Cloudbusting: Violins coupled with vocals makes me feel like I could be flying through the clouds - 1 And Dream of Sheep: meh - 0.5 Under Ice: interesting dark vibe, but still meh - 0.5 Waking the Witch: hearing clips of incessant British voices is very annoying - 0 Watching you Without Me: Very soft and beautiful song - 0.75 Jig of Life: I like the use of the Irish jig for a pop song, but it’s still an Irish jig - 0.5 Hello Earth: Novel and too long - 0.25 The Morning Fog: love the acoustic guitar picking in this song - 0.75 Total: 7.512

Stimme okay. Musik 80s okay.

Lovely 80‘pop...enjoyed it more than I expected. Also, didn‘t know that „running up that hill“ was originally by her...but I also lik the Placebo cover of the song.

Cool concept album, I particularly like the B-side with the orchestra and choir, especially the Irish song.

1985. Key Songs: Running Up That Hill, Cloudbusting

I only really liked the first song, the rest were nothing special.

not really my style 6/10 couldnt finish it

Not an album I’d heard previously and I liked it, two stars. Tom.

Banger of a first song but then the rest didn’t ever reach those heights again, also got a bit weird in the second half with some of the noises

Besides the massive hit, I struggled with this one. Very ethereal, which is usually my jam but something about this sat wrong with me. 2/5

Not really for me.

Lots of "Yay Yo" vocal fills on these songs. Once it caught my ear I was done.

bow wow wow i find something about this incredibly grating

Of course the first thing that comes to my mind is stranger things series. Sounds too much like the 80s, combining also classic instruments between the synths and drums. I dont like so much Kate’s voice though.

Obviously she's brilliant, just not what I enjoy listening to regularly

Other the first song which is a classic, others are forgettable. A concept album is one which I didn't understand

I appreciate her for trying to have her own style away from her contemporaries, but I’m just not a fan. I find her way of singing a little cringey and I can’t really explain why

Wasn't sure where the album could go after that beginning. Really liked Big Sky but it could have done without a layer or three of random sounds. The rest of side one doesn't do much for me. And Dream of Sheep was nice and then I'm napping again. Jig of Life vacillates between beer commercial and Hornswoggle entrance music and neither do it for me. It's a 25% hit rate which is not great even if the good songs are pretty-to-really good.

Waking the Witch suuuuuuuucked. So did Watching You Without Me. Dumb glitchy crap. The weird spoken word stuff in "Hello Earth"? Awful! I like the dogs on the cover. The first half of the album was fine, then it really lost me.

Running up that hill is an unquestionably great song. The rest of the album didn’t really move the needle for me though

Not bad other than waking the witch, but not something i’ll come back to. It was nice that the viral song (running up that hill) wasn’t a standout, but again, i never got that bandwagon so 2 stars for me

I feel like these records all kind of sound the same but there are some standouts that I really like

metallic sound, not so many good songs

Wasn’t really a fan of any of the tracks, but could see why some people love this album.

Not a fan i dont really like her voice icl

This was an incredibly interesting sound, with a number of songs that feel like they could've been released during the 2000's. It's a shame then that I didn't really care for most of the songs? Maybe I just don't like art pop, but most of the songs didn't really vibe with me.

2.4 3x seems some weird scottish interlude, but overall it's not bad

Obviously this album has become well know in recent years because of the use of "Running up that Hill" in Stranger Things. Having never heard any of the other songs from this album, I feel like this was an excellent choice in general for Strange Things because of its prog rock concept album sort of vibe. Waking the Witch particularly felt like a good choice for a show about kids obsessed with D&D and it kind of freaked me out to be honest.

What Kate Bush and this album in particular deserves respect for is the arrangements. The sound of some of the songs is truly remarkable, and to produce an album yourself, record it in the studio you built yourself, is truly impressive. But everything else... I think Hounds of Love appears on various "best of" lists more often than any other album. Can anyone explain why? It's certainly not because of the first side, which is almost entirely danceable new wave. So all the credit goes to the incredibly drawn-out, pseudo-philosophical second side, where ballads mingle with Irish motifs, and piano passages morph into industrial drum machine sounds? No, let the Pitchfork journalists listen to that. I was thinking of adding a third star for "Running Up That Hill," but even that one was better with Placebo.

Didn´t like it. Just a few songs.

Se siente pop más oscuro, íntimo. Más personal que comercial.

I feel a little conflicted I don’t know what I supposed to take from this album and the latter half of this album felt a bit all over the place but I did enjoy some of the songs Kept having this weird thing happen were the song would start and I would hate it but then as it went along I found myself like the track more

It s sounds very romantic to me. I didnt enjoy this álbum, i dont feel that i found gold.

sounds like from the 80s, and kind of every song like it's the same, at least the first few. "Waking the Witch" has a bit stronger vibe - not necessarily something I'd listen to, but it caught my attention. Is she Irish?

The Ninth Wave (mini concept-album, the second side of Hounds of Love) is surreal and atmospheric, especially Under Ice and Jig of Life. It's about a woman drowning in the aftermath of a shipwreck. The rest of the album is either generic, or just not my style at all.

Me reee aburrió

It wasn't my style, i only liked one song because i had heard it on a serie

2 Kate Bushs in a week ahhhhh i'm going insane Massive single, rest of the album is meh Fave track: Running Up That Hill
