Reviews (page 11 of 13)
Dancy and weird. Good combo.
o o oooo
Pretty good
They're pretty weird, even for my taste
Heard it multiple times. I can't say any particular song struck with me
3.5. Rolling guitar and upbeat drums with haunting vocals.
Yelly rock, sorta reminds me of Modest Mouse actually but quite not as good. It started getting samey toward the end.
Svengaavaa laivamusaa
I Zimbra whips, whole album reminds me of the other Talking Heads album I like but more jammy / maybe less innovative, still a great album
Catchy tracks
This was unfortunately more mediocre than I expected. However, I still liked listening to it on the second half. First half was lacking.
Much like the other Talking Heads album I've listened to I did not enjoy this one. It's fine as background music I guess but I just do not vibe with this band.
Very disappointing first taste of the Talking Heads. I've heard a lot about the iconic band and have been recommended them before, but I found myself really grasping for anything palatable passed the singles. I Zimbra, Life During Wartime, and Drugs were the only songs on here that held my attention. I don't find myself drawn to David Byrne's vocals, and I don't think the musical performance brings much to the table. I'll try them again at a later date.
I really struggled listening to this.
I’ve heard of the talking heads but never listened to an album. Love the slow open on I zimbra. Goes right into a really fast fun song. Awesome production, love the horns. Cool production, bullshit lyrics and vocals on mind. Aside from the chorus, u don’t mind it. Paper is interesting. Again good production, 0 substance to the lyrics. Another really cool slow build up to cities. What he’s saying is all true, but again there’s no substance to this song. Like is this album made for kids? Production is really cool tho. Really cool keys and guitar again on wartime. This one is much better songwriting. Memories can’t wait is fine, good not great. Better writing again in this one. Good guitar and keys on air, more of the same w the vocals. Just not much going on. He’s an is a lot better. Very normal song which was needed. Really nice piano. Don’t like animals. Interesting guitar and bass but don’t really like them to be honest. Elementary lyrics again. At least the album sticks to a theme, even if it’s kind of a shitty theme. Don’t mind electric guitar. Simple lyrics again but it’s actually pretty catchy. And the guitar is really good. Drugs is very interesting. I think the production is really cool. Just a little too slow with the vocals. Interesting feels about this k um. It has the elements of JAA but it has some really impressive elements production wise. Good production, lack luster vocals and lyrics. Comes out average. 2.4/5 stars.
Wierd
very experimental
Pretty dissapointed in this one to be honest. Was excited to listen, having heard (and enjoyed) several random Talking Heads songs in the past, but this album was a little bit of a tough listen for me. The singing is deliberately abrasive at the best of times, but it can work well - most of this album was just annoying. I enjoyed "Heaven" and "Drugs", but that's about it.
Although I appreciate its originality and contribution to music, I cannot say I enjoyed listening to this album.
its aight, too calm too old, smn youd listen to while driving or while having a convo, not my vibe
definitely not my style i zimbra - 2/5 mind - 3/5 paper - 3/5 cities - 3/5 life during wartime - 3/5 memories can't wait - 2/5 air - 4/5 heaven - 2/5 animals - 2/5 electric guitar - 2/5 drugs - 1/5 dancing for money - 1/5 life during wartime (alt) - 2/5 cities (alt) - 2/5 mind (alt) - 2/5 34/75 = /5
Pee po nachina, po koito jack sparrow bqga
La verdad, fue una escucha sin pena ni gloria. Casi ni me di cuenta cuando terminó. Le doy 3 puntos (2 estrellas) sólo porque no es que no me gustó, pero tampoco me gustó.
I get that Talking Heads were important, but I really dislike his voice
Some songs were ok, some songs were mega off.
Sorry harsh critic
Like... I see what they're TRYING to do. And I know what they CAN do in the future. But are they doing any of that here? Not really. I can give credit to the production. Nice and tight. Maybe the band will do better on later albums (subtle foreshadowing)
Weird mood
I was a bit disappointed with this one. I liked Talking Heads: 77 so I was looking forward to this, but everything after the first track was a bit over the top for me and I didn’t enjoy it. 2/5
Recognisable but ultimately quite disappointing.
Annoying with its tippy tippy tip snare.
Rating:★★ Kinda forgettable. Liked Life During Wartime but otherwise a bit strange.
so far not a lot of songs on this album have caught my attention but i really haven't heard much talking heads up until i listened to this album. paper is a pretty decent song and so is life during war time. memories cant wait is also another good one but I've noticed that a lot of these songs have riffs that go on for way too long and don't really do anything except the occasional solo. also not a big fan of David Byrne's vocals. maybe its just the album but he does not really try anything new with his vocals throughout the whole album. another thing i noticed is that his vocals are super hidden behind all the instruments but that's probably just the mix of whatever version i chose to listen to. I'm sure there are better mixes of this album out there.
Can really hear the bass line throughout the whole thing - nice bass. Overall the album feels creepy and weird. Not good morning vibes for when I played it. Read on Spotify you can put “fear of” before each of the song titles.. made it a bit more interesting but still weird. Wouldn’t voluntarily turn this on.
Me.
Bof
To be honest, I'm going into this biased. I'm not a fan of the few songs I do know. Not that they're bad, it's just too weird for me I think. Reading the description in Apple Music, & I think it helps paint a picture why I'm not really a fan. It's "funny." I really can't stand funny music. Musically, it's fun. I find myself tapping my foot. I'm just ignoring the singing subconsciously.
Not a bad album but I remember liking Talking Heads a lot more than this...
An easy listen, but felt pretty boring to me. If I gave it another listen, I'd probably like it more.
This album just kind of came and went. Sounds like talking heads, but not a notable album of theirs imo. 2*
Не мое, скучный обычный рок
First few songs were alright, rest were weird as hell
Entretenido pero un poco repetitivo
I understand that talking heads acted as the precursor to 80s and 90s grungy rock, but honestly I never understood the hype behind them, and it continues with this album. As this album doesn't include much of their known hits like psycho killer or once in a lifetime, it feels like a mish mash of average tracks. Hope some of their other music is on this list so I can better understand the hype
I mean I've heard the Talking Heads before, and I've liked their music, but there was nothing in this album that grabbed me. It was really boring, actually.
My fourth (and last) talking heads album. I feel the same way I did listening to the first album. I really don’t enjoy it.
Good album.
strained vocals.
este disco suena a cualquier otra rola de inicio de los 80’s, no se nota tanto el estilo de la banda idk life during war time es la que más me gustó
I respect this album for what it does. I do not care for most of the tracks on it. Life During Wartime is easily the best song on the album. It's experimental but at the same time, true to the Talking Heads.
cities alt - drums i zimbra - drums intro everything else is boriiing
Pretty solid not too into the funkiness, talking heads is something I will definitely explore more when I’m open to it because it was solid despite not liking that kind of sound
eh
You know how some bands do a Greatest Hits release? If the Talking Heads did, none of these tracks would be on it. And again, ugh Brian Eno. He's a talentless hack that snuck his way into a producer's role.
I was a bit afraid of this album.
lowk bored
I'll die and forget I ever listened
Throw everything at the wall and see what sticks. Leider nichts, zumindest kein einziger Song in meinem Kopf, nachdem ich das durchgehört hatte. Es bleibt eine Stimmung. Kleinteilig, gleichzeitig floaty, verkopft, unfertig, teilweise rafiniert. Eine Stimme die ich nicht brauche. Bleibe ratlos zurück mit dem Gefühl, dass das schon irgendwo nen guten Vibe hat, aber alles andere als hitverdächtig ist.
I came expecting the catchy hooks of speaking the tongues, the warmth of little creatures. The dance funk of remain in light so I hear fear of music and I feel it's claustrophobic repetitive and just over all less rewarding. It's not my vibe
None of their best songs are on this album
Besides Heaven, this record didn't do it for me, it's a bit too noisy
I enjoyed my time, but I cannot recommend this album. You're not listening to this in the context and music scene it released in. You're listening digitally in 21st century, and unless you're already in, this one's out.
this group creates several great tunes, however majority of this album was mediocre.
Best Song: Life During Wartime. The bongos stole the show. Worst Song: Animals. That group staccato vocal section was not for me. Overall: I just find this genre of music tedious. What's worse is the Talking Heads spawned so many copycats that this feels like listening to the origin of so much music that I hate. I'm sure means something to somebody but it speaks absolutely nothing to my body.
No es mi estilo, aunque percibo ciertos matices de doors David bowie, etc.
I would not call this forgettable since I could not even remember it in the first place.
Interesting listen. I really liked a couple of songs, but the other songs were very odd. I like some of the talking heads songs, but his voice wears on me for a whole album. 5.5/10 Top song I Zimbra
Not one I've heard before
Ordinary
Man i am too new gen for this
I'm glad I didn't develop a fear of music after listening to this. It was enjoyable, but would need the right situation to listen to it again.
Not my favourite
Talking heads hit this one really specific niche all the time and it’s just not for me. Also I haven’t forgiven David Byrne for my life in the bush of ghosts. Specific rating - 2.4 Fav song - I zimbra Least fav- drugs
Most of the songs are forgettable and similar. Just ok
A few good songs, but didn't love this. Favorite songs: Life During Wartime, I Zimbra
i liked the first song on the album but a lot of the other songs were unpleasant to listen to.. just annoying repetition that makes you want to change the song.
Zimbra was such a promising opening but I found the rest of the album difficult to listen to. It became somewhat monotonous.
ok
Always liked their singles, but sadly a bit underwhelmed by this album. Some good tracks, such as Life During Wartime and Heaven, but it didn’t engage me as much as I hoped it would. It is rhythmically interesting and has great bass playing.
I was expecting better, I must admit. I found it a little boring.
I wasn't impressed at all. It was just ok.
This made me fear music
move bitch!
glad they exist but
This album is okay, just perhaps not my era. I initially rated it a 3-star, as I will definitely listen to it again with Tim (it’s his era), but not one I will choose to listen to myself. Talking Heads have better albums.
I never thought of the name of the group being related to this, and maybe it is, but I feel like I'm in the head of an undiagnosed/non-compliant with medications ADHD patient.
Durchzogenes Album, ich finde die Stimme komisch
70s rock Album, meh. Nothing stood out to me.
I gotta be in the right vibe for talking heads
Like I said, on another Talking Heads reviews. I have realized that I like the radio hits more than the entire albums.
David Byrne is too 'yippy' for me. I don't mind the music, I do mind him.
The schizo rant about animals was pretty funny. The rest, pretty forgettable. Not a fan of Byrne’s singing.
Что-то странное. Memories Can't Wait и Animals всё же интересные.
It’s like they’re intentionally singing really badly from a different room than the mic
Just as dreary as the weather!
Arkada çalarken güzel aktı ama hiçbir şarkı daöyle dikkatimi çekmedi valla
Not the worst, but didin’t enjoy it
Twas ok
3/10
Was revolutionary, now passe
This is my 3rd and hopefully final Talking Heads album. Genuinely don't get the hype and acclaim with this band.
Man I usually love the talking heads but this one was too frantic and disjointed for me. I need the grooves not the Ritalin.
Sorry but didn’t care for tgis
It’s a rock album.
Dull, except for Tina's playing
not my vibe
The beginning was OK, but I really did not care for the vast majority of this.
I know Talking Heads are legendary but everytime I listen to one of their albums I just don't care about it. Definitely a band I only really love a few songs from. It's just so......meh
Some good moments in this, Cities and Life During Wartime in particular, but also it does just ramble on a bit, and I don't rate David Byrne as a singer.
Hadn’t heard any of this album before although I’m very familiar with a couple of their more commercially popular albums. Maybe it was the lack of a familiar tune or two but the whole thing didnt really do much for me. I could tell it was Talking Heads but I was wishing for a song I knew.
I appreciate this is experimental but I struggled to enjoy it.
початок не поганий ех ну мелодія ж та класна!!!! аое от виконання текстуууу аааааа
Meh
At the moment, nothing really stands out. Maybe if I would listen to it more often one or two songs make it to the playlist. But I think, for now, I would not really listen to it again.
I don't understand how this got on the list. It doesn't belong here. This is album 1083 for me. The 4th Talking Heads album. That's too many. Two would have been very generous. Most albums on the list are better. There are lots of better albums that didn't even make the list. This is the worst one of their four entries. Like their other albums, it's very monotonous. It doesn't have any of their signature songs. What a waste of time. Not bad enough for 1 star though.
Everyone loves Talking Heads. When someone tells me they love Talking to me Heads, I give them the ol' Side Eye and Wide Berth combo. Before starting this journey I only really knew 2 songs by them, hated both. And the silly dancing and clothes, which I hate more than Mussolini. I have since heard one of their albums, can't remember which one it was, and I think I gave it three stars. I've already forgotten everything about it, beyond not hating it. Perhaps I... Have a... FEAR OF MUSIC. I don't though, that would be ridiculous. I just don't like shit music. This isn't bad in and of itself. Make no mistake - it isn't great - it's more that you can smell all the artists and music this influenced, and almost none of that was good. The world would surely be a better place today if this did not exist, such is the tripe which came in the aftermath of this album and this band. Too jangly, too dance-oriented, too confidently up itself without warrant. The opening song...no need for it to be over a minute long. The second track, looping and irritating, great production except for the fact that the vocals are too low in the mix. But then you remember the vocals are bad, so maybe this flaw benefits the listener. Track three - guitars and drums are good in isolation, shame they're part of such a junk song. Talky-singy is a big no no for me. Four - the minor chord moments are nice, otherwise this is more jangly dance clown music. Fifth would be okay without the silly vocals. Drums getting repetitive now. Sixth song is pretty cool. Seventh is almost funny with its Carny 'come this way if you fancy a handjob ' spooky vibes, but once more the vocals are an atrocity. The eighth song is genuinely good, ruined of course by the vocals and tainted by those same familiar drum loops (buh-tih, buh-tih, buh-tih, tiddleliddle-tih - EVERY SONG). The one after is the sort of discordant nonsense that New York Art types lap up with their monocled teets. Next one sounds like the Bully videogame soundtrack and the last one is, appropriately, repetitive experimental wank. Look, I like weird shit. I have no problem with it. But the vocals are bad. Nothing to do with how zany they are, how many grunts and pronunciation quirks there may be... It's that they are flat, tuneless, ultimately lifeless. The music is largely dull but you can tell the band is talented. Same with the production - wrapping a dog turd in chocolate still doesn't make it edible. It is not for me, and while I accept I'm in the minority, I don't accept that as many people who claim to love this actually do.
Bass player needs a raise I see why people would like this but I don’t it’s to weird for me Life during wartime is good
ummmm not terrible but not great like not my vibe
While I recognized the Talking Heads credit to some of their hits, I’m sorry to say that this is the second album I’ve gotten of theirs and I become less impressed with the band the more I listen to them. Seems their sound is one I’d prefer to consume in much smaller quantities.
Somehow, every song sounds the same.
A one note album. Felt like 40 minutes of the same song.
It's okay ish 2
Heard it before. I like Talking Heads but god, there are too many albums from them on the list. And most of the albums here are bad choices. This is one of them, maybe just 3 good songs on the entire thing 2/5
It insists on itself.
Talking Heads are a lot like Peter Gabriel or Devo for me. They’ve got a couple nice, accessible songs, and then the rest is just artsy, boring, annoying stuff that’s just all over the place. This album had a lot of the latter.
I can see how it's influential, but I also find it annoying. I think I'd like it more if they didn't do the 80's YELLING THING
Not a fan
I couldn't get into the unique rhythm, but not painful to listen to.
Talking Heads are very hit-or-miss for me; the opening two tracks were musically interesting and were things I was happy to listen to. But then we got into what I consider the “usual” sound of the Talking Heads: David Byrne drone-talk-singing over music that does just enough to drown out any attempt to understand what he’s actually saying. And that just doesn’t work for me. This almost inches to 3 stars just for the first two tracks and the final track…but the middle is just too Talking Heads for my tastes.
Since I really like David Byrne, I've dedicated many hours to understanding talking head's hype. I just don't get it man. Most song sound the same, and none of them are my type at all
ok, few good songs
Not my favourite talking heads
Don’t think it’ll be on high rotation for me but it’s ok
Just an album that's not for me.
As quirky and zany as you'd expect from Talking Heads but they don't leave you with much to sink your teeth into here. Felt like they said "guys our songs are TOO catchy, let's ditch that this time" Also the end of the album with Heaven -> Animals -> Electric Guitar -> Drugs felt like a schizophrenic break
No so much
This album captures the vibe of a high school nerd strutting into school on Monday morning, having just lost his virginity the weekend before. He is gonna flex on his friends as chess club so fucking hard at lunch.
I saw talking heads and thought “oh yeah this’ll be a good album - I know a few of their hits” and this just kinda disappointed me cause theres just nothing of substance to this album - maybe I’m just looking into it wrong tho.
want to like this band more than I do. David Byrne seems like a nice gent, but I'll let others enjoy his music without me.
This is a mixed bag of taste kind of band. I like some of their tracks but others are just annoying. Overall, an OK album.
Taliking Heads twice in one week a bit much. Maybe unfair as a result.
Never vibed with Talking Heads when younger and I get why now. Favourite song was 'I Zimbra' which sets a tone but then it slowly falls flat.
A couple of good songs but the album is not as strong as their others.
Talking Heads are an important and influential band I’ve listened to and tried to get into in the past. Still, their mix of moods and influences, from dark and gloomy to quirky and humorous, all tied together by that cold post-punk sound, kind of leaves me puzzled. It works really well on some tracks, but often I’m not fully convinced, especially when they bring in Afrobeat vibes that make them unique but, to me, not all that appealing. I don’t dislike them, but I’m not exactly a fan either. I think that I might enjoy more their first albums but I didn’t dig that much into them this weekend.
Songs I liked - 4 Songs I didn't like - 7 4÷11≈0.36 0.36=36% I feel like an utter gimp doing maths to give my rating but I'm ill and I can't be arsed writing anything out.
Really enjoyed some of the melodic tracks - like Heaven. Some too quirky for me - though imagine if watching live would enjoy, adding the visual aspect to this band!
5/10
Schon recht zäh, da gefiel mir „Remain In Light“ von ihnen besser.
Irgendwie werde ich nicht warm mit den Talking Heads...
Or serving talking heads album and still not really for me
Not my favourite of theirs
I can see why you’d fear this music. Maybe try being Singing Heads next time!
Minne litt om B-52's:) Va heilt greit, happy go lucky musikk:) Beste sang: Cities - Alternate version
Not a fan. Can't lie
Fear of good music? Favorite Track: "Mind".
Not my genre
Definitely talking heads. Good for five minutes but I don’t want a whole album of it.
I really don't care for much of this
Rating: 1.5 I can’t understand this band. Everything they make sounds like background music from an educational VHS tape in 1985 yet I’m supposed to hail them as the most innovative thing ever. Not happening buddy.
decent not their best
yeah, this didn't do it for me.
Not bad but It's not something i'd just whack on in my day to day. The vocals can get a bit crazy throughout. I like well known talking heads songs but this didn't have any I recognised.
Ok not my style of music
Eh. 3/7
Surely not their best
Aika monipuolinen. Kivoja rytmejä, mutta välillä biisien, kuten Memories Can't Wait, tunnelma oli tosi blah. Monta hutia, pari ihan hyvää.
I am not sure what the Talking Heads’ schtick is supposed to be, but nothing on this album really grabbed me. The songs are quirky and offbeat, but they never hit that point where I felt hooked or wanted to come back for another listen. Maybe it is a me problem, because I have never been much of a fan of that 80s new wave sound they pioneered. The mix of odd rhythms, twitchy vocals, and angular guitars just does not click with me. I get that the Talking Heads were influential, and I can respect their place in music history, but Fear of Music was more of a chore than an enjoyable listen.
Vocals are weird. Sounds like Bob Dylan but higher energy (not a compliment)
„Mind“ and „Cities“ are cool i guess
Auch diese TH-Platte packt mich nicht. Sicher perfekt produziert, aber trotzdem keine eingängigen im Ohr bleibenden Melodien. „Heaven“ ist der einzige Song, der halbwegs hängenbleibt.
I want to like Talking Heads but they just aren't consistent enough for me. David Byrne has a distinct voice that is mostly interesting but there aren't enough highs to outweigh the lows.
I find the talking heads to be boring.
This has some of the same rhytmics as a recent african salsa/cha cha album had. Not a surprise really, since to me it feels like Talking Heads has always thrown in a good measure of world music into their concoction of pop music. Sounds quite a lot like the stuff I've previously heard, none of which tickles my fancy.
2,5
i love talking heads but meh
Não gostei disto :(
This feels very much 'of its time'. I wasn't around when this first came out, and I don't like it now. It would probably be a good album to get drunk to if I were 18 and out with friends.
Would'nt relisten
I could not finish this album. It is very experimental and puts you in the backrooms with every punk-ish track. A incoherent mess of sounds and symphonies, it makes you wonder who this album is actually for. The talking heads definitely do fear music with this noisy mash up of everything you don’t want to hear. I’m sure I’d give this a better rating if I was high AF but listening to this sober left me confused more than anything.
Ask me about other Talking Heads albums
I’ve always admired Talking Heads more than I’ve enjoyed listening to them and this was not my favorite album of theirs.
Fear of Music – Talking Heads (1979) | Post-Punk / Art Rock | Avg: 4.95 | Favorite Song: “I Zimbra”* Fear of Music is the sound of a band pushing boundaries, but this one didn’t fully connect. “I Zimbra” leads the charge with its manic polyrhythms and hypnotic energy—by far the most engaging moment here. Beyond that, the album seems to struggle with tonal consistency. With most tracks sitting in the 4 to 5 range, it feels like the experimental edge often comes at the expense of memorable songwriting. There’s ambition, for sure, but it doesn’t always land in a satisfying way. That said, you can still hear the groundwork being laid for the band’s stronger future material. There’s a rawness to songs like “Mind” and “Air” that could be appreciated on a conceptual level, even if they don’t have the replay value of later classics. Fear of Music may be respected for its artistic risks, but based on your scores, it sounds like it ends up more frustrating than rewarding. Fear of Music is an album caught between innovation and accessibility that never quite finds the sweet spot.
Very groovy baselines and a couple catchy verses but not something I would replay.
Despite paying attention while listening everything sorta blended together and maybe that’s just a me problem but I didn’t see this one
Life During Wartime is the only thing that made this tolerable
Please leave the poor animals out of it!
I found the lyrics nonsensical and the rhythms and tempos to be generic ans repetitive nothing stood out, not my bowl of coco pops
2.5
Too eccentric for its own good
Better than the last talking heads album but not saying it is good
Quirky new wave.
Eeeeee creo que de tanto escuchar (obligado por Youtube ) Psycho killer lo escuché algo escéptico De fondo sonó bien
Art Rock, which in parts is funky, weird and uplifting. Mostly though the album falls apart. A lot of the melodies seem to be all over the place. It screams for more structure to reign in the fun and crazy rhythms.
I do not get the Talking Heads obsession people have
Puh...
Wife hates the Talking Heads, I have a negative inclination toward them. Nothing against them, we just have ti support each other!
A couple of good tracks but mostly very samey
Dude be rambling
Not into this. I haven't read anything about it and probably don't understand the context. As a listening experience there is nothing I particularly enjoy about it.
Mumble rock
slightly unsettling
OKayish only for m,e
This is the sleepiest Brian Eno has ever made me.
Ah yes, Talking Heads. They definitely exude that "80's band" feel. I think this is one of their earlier albums, so a lot less "Pop-y" than I was expecting. Honestly, nothing really stood out to me here. I don't have any negatives nor do I have many positives. Even though I've never listened to 90% of the tracks here, everything feels incredibly familiar. Somewhat mediocre, not something I'm super into. Favorite Track: Heaven
Overall, pretty meh album, even though it has missions of listens on each song on Spotify, but it is also quite an old album, so I guess it has a fanbase. I would say that this isn't too great nowadays but I can see it being quite exciting back in the day. The two songs that have the most listens are the least-worst sounding ones, but the singing is just very distant, not really too melodic and overall meh.
not my bag
Not my style
The vocalist seems off his head and would love to have heard something like this live. This is my first experiance of this band and for me its steeped in 80's but in a way that locks it there which is a shame for me. It has massive energy about it. I just imagine a load people flopping about on a dance floor with badly fitting suits when I hear this. I consider this more disco for some reason. While not classic pop it has some similar vibes about it. Close but no cigar for me. I just find the vocalist voice slightly annoying which is a hard hurdle for me to get over (it frustrates me as I think he is excellent other than to my ear). This is good though so I need to listen to it some more as I think it would grow on me. I suspect I will regret this rating but its what I feel right now.
Upbeat music with some spirited vocals but I was struggling to keep interested by halfway through the album. I prefer a heavier rock music and this is just too poppy for me. 'Memories Can't Wait' was a fairly decent track in the middle of the album and I momentarily hoped the second half might improve. Instead I thought it felt a bit jumbled and formless towards the end. There may well be some hidden depth to the lyrics but I will never uncover them because the music won't inspire a repeat listen.
Really love Talking Heads but this one didn’t do it for me :( a fun listen for sure but a little outside of my personal range in terms of style and songwriting. Fav Track: Life During Wartime
Albumi on kyllä outo. Rytmikäs funk-soundi, joka kuulostaa ajoittain jopa oudon apaattiselta. Omaan makuun hitusen liian outo albumi, kaikenlaista kikkailua melkein liian paljon.
Not for me.
Kinda gave Bowie for a second and one of the song sounded halloweenie, but they’re very British so :P
Thought I’d like the uppity nature of the album but became brainless background music in the end.
Didn’t hit me hard tbh
As expected of a late 70’s album
Some of the songs were kind of whiny. I liked Life During Wartime.
не для мене
Not bad, I enjoyed one track on the album more than others.
The Talking Heads are a real anomaly for me. They have some really catchy, fantastic songs here and there, and then a lot of songs that give the impression that they were tripping on some interesting substances while writing them. Today’s album is much of the latter. Perhaps in a different setting I’d have enjoyed this more, but listening while driving around wasn’t the scenario for this to click for me. Maybe one day I’ll come back to this and try again, but I can’t say I enjoyed this one.
Don't care for it. Like lots of other 70's music
Treffer meg ikke.
I just really don’t like the talking heads. I liked this more than the other album that came up, but it’s just not my thing
Hmja, musikalisch ok. Stimmlich und vom Rhythmus hat es mich nicht überzeugt. 2/5
I'm a hits guy. Maybe I'll love one of their other records, but I just don't get the appeal of this album
Nothing special
Rather boring. Nothing exciting about this.
Fine. Not a huge fan of Talking Heads.
There was one popular song (which isn't bad) and a whole bunch that sounded like they were trying to annoy the listener with weird sounds. I wouldn't buy this album, and I would not voluntarily listen to it ever again.
2.5
Unfortunately I think the Talking Heads just aren't for me. Songs had some funky beats but that had a hard time standing out against the rambling vocals I couldn't ever get myself to like
Kul
With the exception of Life During Wartime, the entire record was an exercise in finding -something- to like about it.
Did not resonate with me
Was ok. I didn't hate it, but I didn't like it either.
Bland and uninteresting, coming from someone who doesn’t know their cultural significance. Type of music that I wouldn’t mind playing in the background, nothing I would give my attention to.
Hard to get into the groove just listening on Spotify. This music needs to be experienced within the context that it was intended - a sweaty, smoky dance hall with a massive Disco ball
I’m sure this is someone’s jam, but it’s definitely not mine. It’s not terrible, but I do find it to be repetitive, a little disjointed and mostly annoying. 2 stars
I just think I don't really care for David Byrne. The music was fine, but he just kind of drives me nuts. I couldn't objectively listen to him and the music. I'm not saying he's as bad as the snare drum on Metallica's "St. Anger" album, but he's not fun to listen to, for me.
That was a really bizarre listen. Not a big fan, even thought I do like some TH music from other records.
Not my cup of tea. There is some cool playing and I don't mind the vocals, but they don't fit with the music. I really liked Air, though, which I haven't seen anyone mention as a standout track. Heaven is just plain boring
What can I say? This is an interesting eclectic band- that is all brains and no heart. Bowie did things like this in the 70s- and much better. I think there's something here, but other than the one big one, "Once in a Lifetime", I'm just not into this music. I personally find David Byrne annoying and the songwriting underbaked- it just does nothing for me.
Too new wave for me. Literally
#543 It's exactly what you'd expect from a Talking Heads album. 1 or 2 good songs accompanied by a lot of weird. 2/5: meh
I zimbra I really liked at the first listen and it’s def my favourite out of the album. The second half of air is really amazing. But next time I will need to be high to listen to this again
Honestly, not my favourite talking heads album. Nothing struck me as particularly exciting or engaging. It is a unique sound and all the songs differ from each other vastly, but nothing grabbed me in a way where I felt compelled to save it.
2 sterne
I like a few of the talking heads songs but this doesn't have any of those on it
Not much on here appeals to me at all 2 stars or D.
Not really my speed but I can understand why others may enjoy. The talk singy is weird like in the song paper and they seem to incorporate different genres. The first track sounds very African inspired while others sound punk rock, funky, etc.
An appropriately titled album- most of the songs wee musically unimpressive. I like later TH much better.
Sometimes weird sometimes just mediocre. Nothing stands out.
It was alright. Sometimes I was thinking “this is weird - not a fan” and other times I was thinking “this is weird - awesome”, and never really landed anywhere definite. Not quite enough for a 3-star for me.
Not really memorable. Just seems kinda bland to me.
A better album overall than their debut album, but without any big hits it isn’t very memorable. Run-time isn’t too long, has that Talking Heads charm, and lyrics that are just strange enough that you question what you’re listening to. Rounding down from a two and a half.
I don't get the Talking Heads hype. This album was really underwhelming. They definitely have a distinct sound, but not much else.
Not a bad album but I didn’t enjoy it even after listening through twice to give it another chance.
nothing sandwich aah album :/
Don't like his voice, like 2 good songs as background music maybe
Made me feel like I was playing spy vs spy but nothing jumped out at me
Just underwhelming and boring. 2 stars
I'm not a huge Talking Heads after getting 2 of the albums already so I wasn't excited for this one. I was surprised to hear the first song was really good and it raised my expectations for the rest of the album. Too bad the rest of the album features the terrible lead vocalist. I said that in my last review, "If you remove the main singer, it's actually pretty good" which was proven to be true for this album as well. The album's second half is also much weaker which didn't add to my enjoyment. Guess I shouldn't be surprised that it sucked.
least favourite talking heads album
pretty mid honestly
Meh. It was a little bit out there, but never really caught my attention. Definitely felt more art focused, which can be great, but not one that I'll likely be returning to.
Hade nog lite större förhoppningar.
Every song sounds the same
2.36. I must say I'm warming up to Talking Heads.
A bit one paced. I do like Talking Heads but this one not one of my favourites, he sounds more demonically possessed than normal.
No había escuchado este disco de Talking Heads, y menos mal, porque lo mismo habría sido el último. No me ha interesado nada. No es malo, así que 2 estrellas y listo.
en tykänny
Also kinda dull, maybe I don’t get it
Good stuff
3 songs held up for me. Although I know this is a ground-breaking band, it was a little too out there for me. I wish I could give it one more half-star. Cities, Life During Wartime
How are there two of their albums on this list?
Fear of Music? More like fear of getting another talking heads album... Neida! Men joda, har enda ikke skjønt meg på Talking Heads. Denne var kanskje litt bedre enn More Songs about Buildings and Food (eller hva den het) men føler fortsatt at de fleste sangene bare vegeterer i et område uten å gå noe sted.
Because David Byrne, and Talking Heads are often cited as an influence for many artists, I feel a little awkward saying that I don't like this album. I also struggle to articulate exactly why. I did read this review by : https://1001albumsgenerator.com/shares/600b2b41df8aed0e2460fa9c who summed the album up as: A spooked ostrich in a house of mirrors. I couldn't agree more.
I was surprised by how much I disliked this album - I feel like Talking Heads has lots of ingredients I should love, but it's the most irritating wank to actually listen to and I guess I'm just missing something here - clearly they are well loved by many, but I just don't get it! I Zimbra was tolerable, I'd be happy to never have to listen to Talking Heads again.
Why is 80s music so fucking tinny?
liked songs: Paper, Life During Wartime This album is... fine. I like Talking Heads in general, but I don't think most of this album is really their best work. 2.5
Prima muziek, maar ik had iets heel anders verwacht van de Talking Heads. Ik vind dit album zelfs een beetje saai. **
a little jazzy, very 80s. not really my cup of tea
Certainly was Talking Heads. Not bad, just not really my type of stuff.
Slowly realizing Talking Heads might just be a hits band for me.
Most of talking heads' songs sound way too similar
Listened through this one twice and didn't really click with most of it. "Animals" maybe.
The songs were funny but not really my thing. The singers voice is annoying too
It was alright in places, not likely to be I’ll revisit though.
On the upside it’s better than their first album (1*). But I still don’t get on with their sound, Byrne’s vocals can be grating, and I’m just not into the quick angular guitar style (sadly also in vogue with more contemporary indie bands). It all sounds so flat to me. ‘Cities’ and ‘Memories can’t wait’ were OK though.
find eif de gsangsstil nöd guet und mir gfalled zwenig vode harmonie. es fehlt öppis wo mich hooked
2.5 stars. It was good but nothing that made me want to listen more
Timbremässig monochromatisch - heavily psychedelic - probably didnt pay enough attention to lyrics - "heaven" het n coole harmonische moment
I’ve enjoyed other music from him. This is a disappointment.
I have wanted to like Talking Heads my whole life. I have tried and tried and tried. But I guess I’m not destined to. I think David Byrne is a Genius…just not one I understand. Is this how people who don’t get Radiohead feel? Cause I really don’t get it. Like truly.
Same as the previous album, not my jam.
This was pretty meh. 'Drugs' was the only one I cared about but the rest was not clicking for me.
Too difficult I'm afraid. Not for me
