Reviews (page 12 of 13)
It's alright. It's mostly 'talk' singing, but I like the background instrumentals to the songs a lot more than the actual song altogether (singing and instrumental together). My favorite song is probably "Cities", or "Life During Wartime".
Well, they'd found a new sound. I understand that you have to be willing to create something unlistenable in order to make an omelette, but all I hear is some cool ideas completely ruined by trying to be purposefully punk. Maybe the cool part here is Brian Eno
Kinda sucks.
Not my style, but interesting. Very 80s.
Chaotic, full of cacophony. But it also lots of positive energy. 5/10
Noteworthy songs - 808080808 Magical Dream - Kinda catchy synth, but the rest is bland. Ancodia - Good background noise. Cobra Bora - Actually kind of cool, reminds me of Bomberman Hero. Pacific 202 - N64 vibes, but melody isn't great. Donkey Doctor - Nothing too special, weird ending. 808080808 - Really cool beginning. A little slow in the middle but stays interesting enough. Sunrise - Nothing remarkable. The Fat Shadow - Eerie. Very short.
Didn’t really care for this, got super repetitive at the ends of lots of songs, which made it sound over produced.
these guys are so weird. overall a fun album, but not much that i expect to revisit.
I don't get it. I like plenty of stuff that the Talking Heads perform, but after 30 years of listening to this album, I don't get it. The style is a bit unique, and the songs aren't bad, yet I don't consider it anything special. In fact, I find it so middle of the road, I'd give it 5 out of 10, and I'm going to round down to 2 stars.
After 3 albums, I’ve come to the conclusion that this band just isn’t for me. They’re talented for sure but it’s just too weird for me. I did like this album more than the other though.
I'll say what I said in my previous Talking Heads review: TH are so often touted as one of the "classics" - to be revered, reviewed, and NOT reviled. Everyone loves TH, right? Not this guy. The music is just difficult to latch onto, largely because of the very weak and questionable vocal delivery. Byrne's voice is just not good in any context, but particularly for this funky instrument lineup, the music works best when there's no singing. It actually sounds pretty darn great during instrumental breaks like the intro of Drugs, and parts of I Zimbra, Paper, and Cities (among others). But when Byrne's vocal comes in... ugh. It's incredibly off-putting, marginally out-of-tune, slightly ahead of or behind the beat at times, and there's little in the way of articulation or emotion within each track. I like the compositions on this album, particularly Memories Can't Wait, Air, Paper, and Cities. Life During Wartime is also worth a shoutout – I think I recognised it from somewhere. If the right band had been playing these tunes, this album could've easily scored a 3 or even higher. As another reviewer commented, "Every track is completely original and arrestingly immediate. They would move onto more ambitious work immediately afterwards, but 'Fear of Music' shows the band absolutely mastering three-minute songcraft." I guess the only task now is to hire the right frontman for the job. 2/5 Key tracks: Cities, Drugs, Paper
not bad but not good either
I didn’t like any of the songs except Heaven
Was okay?
I don't get it. This album sounds pretty average to me. The drum loops are monotonous and repetitive, with barely any variation throughout the songs. On top of that, there's a boring guitar or synth, occasionally accompanied by vocals shouting a phrase. That's it. It's reminiscent of those radio songs that aren't bad, but also aren't good. You just wait for them to be over so you can listen to something actually worthwhile. 2.5
Memories Can't Wait+ Sinon globalement pas convaincu, j'ai trouvé Remain in Light plus original. => 2/5
I like Talking Heads. Didn’t necessarily like this.
Nich so meins Favs: /
Parhaat: Heaven
I really don't like the 80s.
Second Talking Heads album so just checked back to see what I wrote the first time. Horror of Horrors that was the day Leeds United lost at Wembley. This album now only serves to remind me of that sad day. Like the day I do not want to experience this album again. Seriously, I’ve tried numerous times to like Talking Heads but I don’t get them at all. Brian Eno features a lot on this album so for that alone is worth another star. But still a lowly score - shame really as yesterday my average rating just clicked above 2.5 for first time in ages. 2/5 27/6/24
Next level weird stuff. Drugs recommended
How many Talking Heads albums are on this list?? So far, at least four too many
The last track on the album is titled "Drugs" - it kind of sums up the entire album. They had to be on drugs to record it, and you'd have to be on drugs to enjoy listening to it.
Air is a banger
It’s a fun album, but honestly not the most standout in my opinion. I think it lacks a real banger. The singles are fine, but we aren’t approaching a Psycho Killer or Once in a Lifetime here.
Not very listenable, interesting or catchy post punk. Rating: 2/5 Playlist track: Air Date listened: 15/06/24
nothing to exciting
Meh
I think it's interesting, I think Talking Heads was important and groundbreaking for the history of music, etc etc but at the end of the day I just didn't enjoy listening to this that much.
Eh.
2/5
solala
i dig the erratic schizo vocals but instrumentally most of this album didn't really interest me. drugs was pretty solid though, wish the album had been more of that
Ok
There are some classic songs here, and the band create some wonderful musical weirdness, but by God, do I hate David Byrne. Yes, the lyrics may be clever and he quirky but he just annoys me as a singer/artist/etc (Sorry, David. I’m sure you’re a lovely person if I met you)
Not a fan in particular
So I was going to give this a 3 star rating, as it's pretty dull stuff, but I'm bumping it up to 4 stars due to Robert Fripp. Unfortunately, I can't stand David Byrne's vocal delivery, so I'm pushing it back down to 3 stars, which was where I came in. Then the second half was so very drab that I'm going down to 2 stars. Some of it sounds a bit like David Bowie, which I guess is the Brian Eno influence. Hated the funky-disco vibe this gave off, but it makes me feel better about not going out of my way to listen to Talking Heads; they suck as much as I figured they would do. I love the fact that I've discovered so much interesting music with this project, but I suppose there has to be the odd journey into garbage along the way.
Fear Of Music was an album that really wasn't great. It mostly suffered from the issue of having music and vocals that didn't really compliment each other and just felt like they were walking on each other. While the music was fine for the most part, the vocals absolutely were not due to sounding way too monotone and being hard to hear due to what i mentioned earlier. This is also an album that just got worse as it went on with it starting out decent at the beginning but falling off hard towards the end. I certainly do have a fear of this music (pun intended). Best Song: I Zimbra Worst Song: Drugs
A glimpse of better things to come, but not their best work.
Genuinely did not like this one at all Not my kinda music. Everything just blended together, and dude's voice is grating Nothing memorable, couldn't recommend a particular song to anyone
I really enjoyed it. But compared to their other work, this does not come close.
Ok. Not the best by them
Seems I’m not really a fan of talking heads
Good parts but not my jam.
Not much memorable on this one. A few tracks try and break the mold but simply aren’t compelling enough the justify nearly entirely eschewing melody. Instrumentals are well produced but don’t arouse much emotion in me, although the bass guitar performance deserves to be singled out for praise. Vocals are flat and uninspired. But a Pittsburgh shoutout?? Love to see it! Listened to: walking along Joe’s Pond. Favorite track: Drugs
Nice
Favourites: I zimbra, life during wartime. I don't hate it but I don't like it. It was fine to have on in the background but it was too long. 2/5
It was okay
I know Byrne has better music than this...
This is probably the album that I'm the least familiar with. "Life During Wartime" is the only song I really know. It a great record overall but not my favorite. "Memories Can't Wait" and "Heaven" are two other songs that really standout for me.
The newest installation of I don’t like new wave. Has its moments tho
First there was mumble alt-rock, then mumble rap. Big ass meh.
Das ist echt anstrengend
Hear one song hear them all... not bad, annoying voice. 2.5 if I could, round down
There are better Talking Heads albums.
Meh
Fine, sounds like a retro futurism kinda vibe to me cool
Just like the last Talking Heads album, interesting music with horrible distracting vocals over the top
Not my thing. I kind of like "Cities" but I couldn't get into the rest of the album. I get that it's experimental and it is a unique sound, but it just didn't hook me.
Memories can't wait - kinda liked it, but still not my cup of tea other is.. meh, except for the last track (Drugs) Animals: 5/4 -> 7/4
Meh
Music that would be playing uncontrollably in my mind while I'm in a drug induced coma. One part interesting and enjoyable, four parts confusing and anxiety inducing. Probably would not listen again. Too scary. But I don't deny there's something here..
Although I really like the song ‘life during wartime’ I never knew it had that title. Yet again a Talking Heads album where I love one song and couldn’t give a toss about the rest. How many more ‘definitive’ David Byrne projects do I have to listen to? Yes, TH have a few great songs and are distinct and influential. But surely that’s enough now?
Weird album. A lot of different things going on with each song. A good decent songs - heaven and memories can’t wait. Outside of those two, not sure what was going on. Not my cup of tea
Technically impressive with lots of musically interesting aspects. Musical composition and mixing is reminiscent of rock and funk, with driving guitar lines underlaying toe-tapping grooves. Unfortunately, not much evolution happens in each song, and the vocal style and lyrics were not to my personal liking.
It's alright. Probably the peak of post-punk, and not necessarily in a good way. Each track sounds like any other Talking Heads track, very little variety. The Gary Numan's Chameleon bass feels very out of place.
I want to like it more than I do. I quite like the classic Talking Heads songs but a whole album doesn't really do anything for me.
drone
Non mi ha preso sinceramente
This was another just noise album. I have learned I don’t like the talking heads.
I didn't mind the music, but the vocals were hard to listen to for me. There were moments I felt like I was getting into it and then something about his voice would take me right back out. 2/5
Feels like spoken word with a beat, and that isn't really my vibe.
Thanks to this 1001 albums project, I've come to learn that I really don't like 'Post Punk', so at least I could come into this album preparing for the worst. And yes, it still holds! I just think it's way too weird, and it does absolutely nothing for me for the most part. I don't like his singing style at all. He's either singing with some kind of mania, or just mumbling and farting about. I thought I would hate this more though. There's a few upbeat tracks that work well, but that's about it.
pretty boring but catchy I guess
some of it sounds interesting but then he starts to sing and it sounds so dated and all I can see is his stupid big shouldered suit and lame-ass broadway musical
Not a great album. Feels like a drug fever in salmon coloured dockers.
Jeah
gets boring very quickly
“Cities” was fine. Most of the rest was similar-sounding babble.
Proof there's music for out there for everybody. This just isn't for me. 2/5
So full disclosure I could not get through the entire album. For me this is 2* at best. What's weird to me is I can definitely hear the influences on music I love, which usually rates higher for me but the fact I couldn't finish it says a lot.
I was underwhelmed by this album and was perhaps expecting too much since I've liked some other pieces from Talking Heads. It wasn't bad, but it really doesn't do much for me, and I don't think I'll return to it.
Love talking heads. Not this album
Meh
A bit too art school new wave strange rhythms for me palette.
Not my cup of tea but I can recognise the talent of Talking Heads.
still too bizarre for my tastes
It was ok. Wouldn't listen to again
Know Talking Heads well and love many of their songs. This one, I was not aware of and it threw me for a loop. Felt like I was on the Disney Haunted Mansion ride for the majority of the album.
I liked this more than I thought I would. I've never been a fan of this vocal styling, but I like the song structure and the music, especially the bass.
Nicht zu Emde gehört. Am Anfang interessant, wird aber zunehmend nerviger. Anstrengende Vocals. Stellenweise gute Texte 2,5
If I didn't know anything about this album going in I would've been able to tell you it was a late 70's or early 80's record by the vocals. The singing is painfully stuck in that time period. The production was good, but more so in a I want to see if any rap producers sampled these instead of a wanting to listen to this record way.
Not a huge fan, too repetitive and "experimental" for my tastes. Frenetic is another word I would use to describe this album.
boring
Geschrummel
Very strange but at least entertaining, could get a bit repetitive but the lyrics kept me on my toes.
Air is my favourite but overall would not listen to again, second talking heads in a row, don't think I really like them
wobbly, like a spooked ostrich in a house of mirrors. the stereotype is true, no talking heads fan has ever had sex nor has any band member
i feel like im listening to the meme beats of horns and clown sounds
Wierd
I thought this was really interminable, but I actually just accidentally listened to it twice. I still thought it was just Okay.
The percussion was so tedious
Either was fast talk singing and plinky plonk guitars or a song that sounded like a David Bowie off it.
Just ok
Somehow I was present at the Hollywood Bowl to see David Byrne preform. The only thing that I can remember from the performance is his ensemblé that included a bunch of teenage boys wearing tight silver lemme shorts dancing in formation. It was at that point when I realized that I really wasn't interested in digging into David Byrne beyond what I knew from the Talking Heads. And what I knew about the Talking Heads is that they're on a whole 'nother level that just isn't appealing to me. Regardless, I did listen to this album and came to the same conclusion. Nope. Not for me.
Life during wartime and Heaven are great tracks, the rest of the album was hard to listen to.
No like jazz
The last few tracks were really painful
Maybe one day I will like Talking Heads, but today is not that day.
Can't do it. Look, people love this band, and I get it, sort of. The staccato delivery of both the music and the lyrics is just too grating for me. Probably the only song I can deal with is burning down the house, because the music is kind of moody in that.
Fear of Music? yeah I'm afraid I'm not a fan. Ahahaha hahaha haha ha. But honestly the songs just blended into each other and didn't really go anywhere to me. Nothing sounded awful but just really couldn't get into it.
oh my god. Same as it ever was. Same as it ever was. I Zimbra - the intro is that part of Fireball by Pitbull. i don't know what language this is but i want to assume based on what i kind of know of Talking Heads, it might be an African language? (3/5 good intro) Mine - the Talking Heads i know. the weird bullshit is here :> (4/5 funny wavy sound) Paper - i feel so bad cause i really can't get behind the Cake thing of just not singing mixed with like Jethro Tull. (5/5 cause it was giving Psycho Killer) Cities - all i heard was "look over there" (3/5) Life During Wartime - the military industrial complex targets poor and uneducated communities to do their bidding. what good are notebooks during wartime? (4/5) Memories Can't Wait - as much as i hate the talk songs, i do like the way that Talking Heads presents the music as a whole. (3/5) Air - fun Halloween spooky sound (3/5) Heaven - chill vibes but nothing too out of place here i guess (2/5) Animals - why the fukc am i being yelled at (1/5) Electric Guitar - what (3/5 scooby-doo ass) Drugs - that was Homer Simperson getting bonked on the head. (3/5 i'm getting lost on this album ngl) Dancing for Money - i also don't know the words to this song (2/5 it did the split ear thing a minute in and i was a little thrown) Life During Wartime - part 2!! i'm gonna be honest, i don't know the difference (1/5 for making me feel like I'm wasting my time. i might not "finish" this album cause the last three songs are alternate versions of shit) i have to give this a 2/5. standing by my "i don't like cake" i don't like this. i really only like Pyscho Killer and Once in a Lifetime.
Vokal ligger
Ok
Another album where I enjoy the music but just can't get over the singer. Maybe it's me. Either way, too much vibrato and purposeful voice cracks
Repetitive and annoying
diferente, no sé en qué idioma cantan en la primera (animada) la segunda nada, 2 estrellas, aburrida y voz fatal cities bien, es muy franz ferdinand not my cup of tea heaven mucho mejor a las demás no me ha gustado
Talking Head was at their peak when I was young and I never understood their music. Now, that I'm older, I realize that it wasn't that I didn't understand it, it was that I didn't and don't like it. I didn't like any of the songs on this album. Now, I did like parts of a few songs. Which is the only reason it's not a one out of five stars.
Okay, just never connected fully with me
Wanted to love it but I was bored. Best ish songs: I Zimbra and Life During Wartime Is this really the same band that came out with the absolute BOP of Psycho Killer??? Doesn't seem like it but, alas.
Struggling to get through each song.
Fangede ikke efter de første par sange
Da e bedre enn dei seinare albumene, men like fortsatt ikkje Talking Heads

Heard it before?: No Enjoy it?: No, not for me Favourite song: didn’t have one
I’m not a fan of Talking Heads. For my media technology course the lecturer used ‘once in a lifetime’ to show different audio effects. I listened to that song about 100 times in 3 hours that day. I’ve never cared for their production, or guitar tone. It’s all too angular and scratchy and this album has a lot of it. I like David Byrne generally and the bass is funky in all these songs. Cities is the best song on it. Franz Ferdinand Loved this album. I didn’t.
Kind of like an album of B sides. Nothing really spectacular, but also nothing absolutely terrible.
It's not terrible, but it's not for me.
mildly interesting to me but I liked some parts
Eh not my style.
I dunno, it’s hard for me to listen to Talking Heads and not hear almost a novelty band like the b52s. I know they’re not, but David Byrne’s voice is just so crazy that it’s hard for me to get past that to connect with the music. This didn’t do much for me.
Da e bedre enn dei seinare albumene, men like fortsatt ikkje Talking Heads
Kind of forgettable album not my thing, got annoying listening to it towards the end despite some alright songs in the first half of the album.
My expectations were kind of high for this one so I may have messed myself up here because it did not meet the mark. At all. I guess Air is alright but. Bleh.
It was OK.
Not great. Most of it sounds like Roxy Music. A guy with a bleaty voice, trying to croon.
Bit boring
Well it's gotta be good right, it was born the same year as I was! Well it was alright. I mean he definitely has a unique voice. Hard to confuse that with anyone else. Satirical lyrics.
funky, but very samey...
Personal Enjoyability (out of 40): 10 Consistency of Quality (out of 25): 12 Keeps Interest (out of 25): 4 Album Flow (out of 10): 7 Overall 33/100 ★★ Quick Review: I just don't get this. Listening to the album was like being the only person in the room who isn't stoned. Only highlight was the second half of Animals.
Sitting on the couch stoned....then this is pretty good. Otherwise....
Really just not my thing. Didn't find it particularly musical on any level.
Not crazy about this one, just not really my vibe.
dont get me wrong - people really really like this album - its one of their biggest records. but after a string of mediocrities and nothings i must express sympathy for the normal not album obsessed person who has heard all about how wonderful the talking heads are and gets this. there are moments throughout that feel like if family guy had to do a talking heads cutaway they would play this, just tedious and boring remain in light is the one we want
Doesn’t move the needle for me.
some good points, some bad points. mildly annoying. repetitive, meaning I didn't like what they were repeating. cities.
Interesting but a bit too different to my tastes for me to come back to.
not for me.. too loud. hurt my ears.
Meh. Not really my thing. Fortunately it kinda faded into the background, so it wasn't unbearable.
David Byrne’s vocals have always been best in small doses for me. Maybe they’ll click later in life, but unfortunately not today. Maybe it would be cool over some fast songs, but I find the yelpiness and over the top style aggravating over the mid-slow temple instrumentals. It’s a shame because the instrumentals themselves are really cool and I know people love Talking Heads, but this wasn’t for me today. Cover Art: 5/10 this is just a worse version of their self titled cover art and loses points for the pattern over the black
I thought I liked talking heads but this album has suggested otherwise
Sorry David, not a great listen.
I didn't love this one. Had that "Talking Heads Sound" that's never really vibed with me.
This one is legendary, but for the exception of singles, nothing on this lp is relistenable
I Zimbra stood out to me, and made me reflect on things like cultural appropriation, musical inspirations, collaboration across genres, synthesis of something new from old parts... Other than prompting that interesting internal discussion, the rest of the music was pretty bland for me. Hopefully I Zimbra was made tastefully and not just taken wholesale.
Genre-bending to the point of inconsistent. Singer seems either bored or trying to sound like Jim Morrison.
This gives me heavily discounted Sparks (the band) vibes. Besides a few tracks, it's a pretty mediocre album. If you enjoy repetition and scratchy monotonous music this is for you.
This band, and this album are overrated. Full stop.
Not a fan.
Not bad but not anything special in my opinion. A lot of the tracks were just.. boring. I did however really enjoy "Life during wartime" aswell as "Paper". The last track just feels unnecessary?
Meh
Talking Heads é uma das minhas bandas favoritas da vida (Stop Making Sense é incrível), mas curiosamente nunca tinha ouvido falar desse além de Life During Wartime.
I've dabbled with Taking Heads in the past. I'm not a huge fan overall, but they are always invited to my party. I've heard several songs of theirs across as many albums that I think are absolutely essential listening. I don't think I've ever played Fear of Music before though. 🤔 Alright, I am familiar with several songs on this album, but it my ears it's just not a great Talking Heads effort overall. Either I'm gonna get another 5 Taking Heads albums generated in the future, or I'm completely missing something here.
I've always had my preconceived notions about Talking Heads and their music, but never really delved into it much past their hit singles. At the onset of this album, I didn't really know what to expect since the first song, I Zimbra, is just nonsensical language, but after this song, it returned to the Talking Heads I had heard before. Oddly nervous lyric delivery, and experimental, spacey music. The lyric delivery always did, and continues to drive me crazy, and they make no sense most times. One song, they sing about how the air is trying to kill you, and another song they sing about how animals are morons. Overall, not my cup of tea, but I do get that Talking Heads are very influential to bands that came later, I just don't get the appeal myself. Maybe I'm just not intelligent enough for nerd rock. Favourite songs: Life During Wartime, Animals, Heaven, I Zimbra Least favourite songs: Drugs, Electric Guitar, Mind, Paper, Memories Can't Wait 2/5
Thought some songs were okay but didn't really enjoy it.
Listened to another talking heads album in the past and wasn't a fan. This hasn't changed my mind. Maybe I don't get it but their sound does nothing for me.
Fear of Music is average at best, quirky and horribly of its era, not bad, just something I don't like and that doesn't feel like it has a high quality bar. 2.
I really like the idea of Talking Heads, and want to like their music, but just can't get properly into it. Suspect it is one that requires more listening than I'm able to put in at the moment given how far I am behind! Nothing really stood out for me in terms of individual tracks, the sound is not unpleasant (although David Byrne's voice is a bit jarring), but there's nothing that I'm particularly excited about going back to. 2/5.
p431. 1979. 2 stars The problems here are David Byrne's voice - he can't sing - and no standout songs. It's instantly forgettable, other than the "singing". The best thing about this is Brian Eno's production. Not sure this is essential listening.
I remember why I started listening to jazz about this time.
Ok, didn't love it.
Meh
1 - I zimbra: an odd song has a retro pop feel to it. Not sure if it’s my type of music. ———————————— 2 - Mind: cool intro riff. Lyrics? Sounds like drunk Bowie. About something dull not working and looking for something better. ———————————— 3 - Paper: This band confuses me. Not enjoying album so far. ———————————— 4 - Cities: one of the better songs it pulls itself together at the end. ———————————— 5 - Life During Wartime: The best song on the album going if of the number of listens. Reminds me of earthbound. Song is mid. ———————————— 6 - Memories Can’t Wait: Bro what the fuck am I listening to rn. Very psychedelic. Favorite song so far. It’s coherent. ———————————— 7 - Air: Funky ghostly opening. Mellow sounding. I like it. ———————————— 8 - Heaven: Classic rock sounding riff. Reminds me of in the lap of the gods. New favorite song. Another drunk bowie song. ———————————— 9 - Animals: It’s alright I guess. One of the better ones in my opinion. Very creative song ———————————— 10 - Electric Guitar: The thing I hat most about this album is that the singer just wails you the title of the track and rhymes it with other words. The song is whimsical as well doesn’t make much sense. But it’s also kind of good...? Nvm. ———————————— 11 - Drugs: This one better be good. Maybe it will be talking about the inspiration for this whole album considering how weird it sounds. Into features moaning sounds. I like the airy sound as-well. Don’t like vocals. This song sounds eccentric. It’s good. ———————————— 12 - Dancing for money unfinished outtake: My expectations are low. Sounds like this dude got some awkward kid to sing backup vocals. Overall it’s a good thing it’s an outtake, not that is would help the album at all. ———————————— Overall: Didn’t really like this album at all. Other than a flex exceptions. This was my first time actually listening to the talking heads and it disappointed me. My rating out of ten for this album is a 4/10
Mwah
Ok rock. Some decent songs, but some songs were tough to get through.
09/01/2022 I just….don’t like the talking heads. They’re the whitest band ever to me. The album was fine, I was able to get through all of it, but I didn’t enjoy any of it tbh. Definitely won’t be listening again, but it wasn’t something so horrible that I couldn’t get through the album. It’s all just personal preference. — Today was way better than yesterday. Did a lot of work and finished a lot of stuff early so I could just relax this weekend. Heading to San Antonio for a few days, hope to relax and recharge.
The most I’ve listened to the Talking Heads. For sure a great band and I can see why. I don’t think I’d return to this album though. Other than a few songs, a little to erratic for me.
Most of the songs aren't terrible, there are a few i really don't enjoy, and they kind of ruin the album for me. There are a few okay songs on here, but I wouldn't listen to it again.
I just don’t get it. Maybe my ability to listen to music isn’t very refined, but I couldn’t get into this album. I made an honest effort. I appreciate how truly unique they have always been; very committed to their own brand of sound.
I never liked psycho killer on the radio. I like this even less.
Psycho killer isn’t on this album :(
Top Song: Memories Can't Wait
Top songs: Paper, Cities, Life During Wartime 3/5
Talking heads 😳😳😳😱😱😩😱😳😳😩😱 1 Heaven, 2 Ok wtf "Drugs" bangs. At the times when it's not fucking horrible.
Just coming out of the coma I suffer from the album. Nothing too impressive
Wanted to like it more
Theres better albums from deez guys
i don't like his voice, guitar cool
This whole album feels like an inside joke that I've heard once that I was never really a part of. Talking Heads is supposed to be good, right? It's the second one from there that I've been really meh on. All I get is 'different', and not in a particularly good way.
Life During Wartime gets the toe tappin’ and booty shakin’. 2.67.
I don't like Talking Heads that much
Man, that's just an utter mess of a record. It's a bunch of half-baked melodies over half-formed song ideas. The end result isn't even half-assed, it's a quarter-assed at best. What an annoying waste of time.
Very Talking Heads but not that many hooks.
Not their best album, but ok
More Talking Heads. This one was much more what I had expected from the band, an extra star for that "paper" song, but I'm not sure why this one's on the list.
Temmelig weird musik. Dog var "War during lifetime" rimelig fed. 2,5
Nameless new wave. 2/5.
Maybe I'm the only person in the world that doesn't like the Talking Heads. This is awful. One and a half star awful, but I feel generous today.
Remember the talking head from art attack? He’s not on this album which is a crying shame
Talking Heads third album - Fear of Music - containing new-wave, post-punk music was released in 1979, and was certified gold six years later. There are many different musical genres sprinkled in to the various songs, and every songs' lyrics are well done. My personal opinion of the album is that - while having good rhythm & lyrics, and a dark & gritty theme - there wasn't any wow factor that would make me listen again.
Talkin' a lot, but not sayin' anything
interesting, experimenting, but not my style. Only got through about half and it couldn't keep my interest. 2.5
Ja.
Didn’t really loke
Not good. Disjointed sound that was discordant and somewhat whiny?
I just about developed a fear of music after sitting through this bullshit. Best track: Heaven
More Talking Heads! definitely a little weirder than the last album i listened to of theirs. Had some recognizable tracks, and some really kind of dark stuff. All in all relatively enjoyable, but not their best. Tough call, want to give it a 2.5.
Kind of weird. Freaky deakey. Not one of their best. Hope there's more on the list
I thought memories can't wait, electric guitar, & drugs were decent, but the rest was extremely boring.
false
Bit boring
Of all the Talking Heads albums they could have picked...
Not a fan of these, in particular the vocals, music was ok though
Hmmm. Is okay.
OK, but all the songs seem to sound the same.
Patchy
David Byrne is a musical genius, sometimes going a bit too far beyond genius, as in the song Drugs. But he also has a tendency to repeat the same words too many times, like in Cities. Living during wartime is the commercial success, but doesn't carry the whole album.
Just gimme the classics
I really wanted to like this. But... no, I didn't. I really tried because I like other Talking Heads stuff, but this just wasn't good. A few bright spots, but the rest was just a bunch of weird stuff that didn't sound good.
I wasn't put off by this album or anything, but it was just *there*, with the vocals droning on and on as I waited for it to be over. None of the songs stood out to me or captured my interest in the slightest.
Nope
Disappointing
Not my genre
it was ok but wont be back
classic talking heads sounds. I didn't recognize any of the songs on this album. May even be able to dance some of these tunes.
It's okay, I liked the first song, but something about the singers voice kind of turned me off. I didn't like how sleepy the album was and how boring the project was to me. Probably good for the time but listening to it now didn't do much for me. 4/8, favorite song I Zimbra.
Bit too all over the shop for me.
Eksperimenterende, 70’er rock, art-School punks, intellektuelt
not really my cup of tea.
A band easy to admire but hard to love. Like Bowie once you get past the non singing affection is there really that much there. This is an early irritating offering. One for the musos and the chin scratchers
one of the most confusing bands to me. They suck so much but get so much universal praise
This shit is boring asf
Boring
Nope, boring and weird
This whole album was a bunch of nothingness. Incredibly bland and repetitive instrumentals with horrible vocals that sounded like a drunk Elvis impersonator. Even though this album only had 11 songs, it was 40 minutes long. Which is way longer than it needed to be for the substance that it provided: nothing. Worst album I've listened to on this list so far.
The lead singer's voice is unique and fun for one or two songs, but a whole album is a lot. DNF
I promised myself I would listen to all the songs in all the daily albums from start to finish, but I failed here. I scrubbed through the last four songs: enough was enough by that point. The vocals are truly unbearable. The pretentious affectation he carries throughout the entirety of the album makes the whole project an earsore. The fear of music is truly the soundtrack of pseudo-intellectuals who get off on smelling their own farts.
was NOT a fan at all. not my jam, didn't like the music really. So uh, 1 star :)
ماش
These heads need to shut the fuck up
Didnt like it
Notable Songzeile: Electric guitar is copied Copy sounds better Call this law of justice, call this freedom and liberty Joseph Beuys Voice: Ja Ja Ja Ne Ne Ne (1968) - uff, das ist mir echt zu gewollt nervig.
Not for me
not for me at all
Talking Heads really put the fear of music in me after this one. Oof talk about a one-hit wonder band.
I didn’t like this
what an odd album not something I would listen to but if you like the late 70s vibe this is it. It giving rocky horror picture but what the characters would listen to
Vocais insuportáveis. Não dá.
not a fan
Juste non ??
Page is a nonce
Started pissing me off around Paper. It’s albums like this that make me really question this list.
T1 that was an experience, some cool key changes T2 T3 T4 starting to see this is a concept album for sure. This song has that same chord progression used throughout most of Pink Floyd’s animals. Also hear dogs barking now, is that Seamus? T5 beginning of this sounds like Morrison singing and the beat itself sounds like the doors. Yeah this for sure sounds like something straight from L.A Woman T6 ‘Take a walk through peaceful meadows.. try not to look so disappointed’ is straight out of the doors by the doors, specifically the song ‘the end’. Got a bunch of different sounds going on in this one, think I might actually kinda like it. Didn’t love the intro but all these weird sounds are kinda coming together. T7 alr let’s get weird. At 2:55, that show the good place on Netflix stole this riff completely. Also I was wondering what the deal was with those weird cool echo sounds and I looked it up and it’s Brian eno, legend. Surprised to learn he produced this record and 2 other talking head albums (remain in light, and more building about buildings and food). Very cool. T8 feels like a reprise of Mind or Paper? Not sure, sounds better though. Relistening now @10am: Following day, think this is a 2.5/3 outta 10
No thank you
I have noticed that so many albums from the 70's and 80's just dont stand the test of time Listening to the Talking Heads now in 2025, things are hitting very differently from how it did back in the day Never a huge TH fan, but hearing this again is a little underwhelming
I sadly did not enjoy this album. I was very interested in Talking Heads too.
My god. Can they not do better? I'm being told these are key albums but they are fucking awful.
The first 2 songs were terrible. Overall, it’s hard to listen to David Byrne strain and whine. He’s an interesting song writer, completely unique really. But that doesn’t mean I like it.
2 - TERRIBLE
Checke einfach nicht, was an denen besonders sein soll. Finde es langweilig.
Another band that I view as the musical equivalent of 'The Emperor's New Clothes'. There were 2 or 3 tracks that didn't jar with me, the rest was utter shite. I had to turn it off during 'Animals'.
The neurotic whining, the constant mocking of society. The tone reminds me of the boys who bullied me at school. It lacks any optimism, any "let's make this world better". I hate every bit of this. The instruments are ok I guess, but as soon as the singer opens the mouth it's like torturing in hell.
still Nothing for me. why is he so bored
Melophobia.
Ooookkkk it's a mash up of some sort of animal placed between instruments,an ape or maybe a small grouping of Raccoons wandering around and over them mixed with people that want be able to sing.
Not my flask of Calpol.
Psycho Killer is a masterpiece. But that particular album is meh...
May have been groundbreaking in 1979 but nothing stands out as innovative. Disappointing.
This is the most overrated band in the world.
1,3/5
I like Talking Heads but incredibly unsure on this one. Ngl this was shit from a butt
Don’t get it. They’re annoying.
"I zimbra", is a loop and D Byrne shouting. "Mind" is a loop and D Byrne singing on top. He sounds as if he really doesn't care. "Paper" is something like "ticket to Ride", the intro. Then bloody D Byrne comes all over.. with the same approach as befor ? "Cities", another funky loop with Byrne annoying with his horrible voice. "Life during wartime", guess what.. yes ! a loop with the same guy preaching about his stuff. and so on.. I loved Talking Heads "77" and "More songs about buildings... ", even "little Creatures".. but this album is insufferable. David Byrne was ok on those albums, on this ones, I can't really finish it. The bass tone is good. But overall, caca
Talking Heads is hit or miss for me, usually a miss. David Byrnes’ voice is high pitched, whiny, and he strains sometimes. I don’t mind that in a few of their songs. But this album wasn’t the case. I give it a single star. I had to skip thru songs less than half way through because his voice was pissing me off.
