This made me quite cross at times.
Bjork’s voice is pretty amazing, so vulnerable yet so powerful. That aside she’s about as marmite an artist as you can get, and generally I sit in the dislike category. The backing production was really harsh and minimal, and not really providing a respite from her constant lyrical stylings. She is a uniquely challenging artist, and this is a very challenging album. I was not up for this challenge.

Please feel free to trust the critics and not me on this one. They all seem to love this. I couldn’t get past three tracks. I’m told the lyrics to this breakup album are “devastating” but I’m met with lyrics like this: “Show me emotional respect, oh respect, oh respect / And I have emotional needs, oh needs, oh ooh / I wish to synchronize our feelings, our feelings, oh ooh” Not so subtle… not so artful. Neither is “I remember every single f*ck” (track three). And I don’t like the sound at all. So there’s a lot I apparently don’t get, and I usually don’t rate an album if I didn’t hear all (or at least most) of it. But this was a non-starter. Needle off, record back in its sleeve, and ready to move on.
You know what, I've had it. 1 Björk album is already too much, and 3 is pushing it. I hear creativity, sure, because no other artist would make such weird, unapproachable music. I like strings and I enjoy ANOHNI, which were the only high points. Singing with a high, wispy voice and creating random noises does not make art! There better not be a 4th or 5th Björk album on this list.
Not for me. Too much dissonance, and ethereal noise for the sake of it. Decent songwriting though. Oscillating between a 1 and a 2. I'd not listen again, and the songs were too long.
Stonemilker - 5/10 didnt like it at first but got used to it Lionsong - 3/10 my ears do not like this i dont wanna keep listening to thissss History Of Touches - 3,1/10 who actually listens to this 😭 Black Lake - 2/10 it started pretty nice but i gave up and will not be listening to this since my ears hurt

Ett typ coolt album och en cool artist som verkligen får till känsla i musiken. Jag gillade dock inte en enda låt och hade inte lyssnat igen. Verkligen inte min stil av musik.

I had an unfair preconceptions of bjork that she made pretentious nonsense music. Now that I've listened to this album, I'm happy to to confirm that bjork makes pretentious nonsense music
do you like bjork? she seems cool and i want to like her but i find her music quite boring. so many interesting people claim to like her. but when i listen every song blends into one long vowel noise that never seems to resolve. i shall not be forcing bjork. 1/5, sorry

Bjork makes absolutely no sense as an artist. Quite frankly, I've never heard something by her that was listenable. If you want arhythmic spoken word "sung" over a drum track with synth thrown in randomly, this is where to get it.
Stop already with the Bjork. This is like the fifth album from her that's popped up on this list. I can't handle her non melodic songs and annoying voice any longer. She's not that good.

I liked the first song and was rethinking my aversion to Bjork. Then came the rest of the album…
Having listened to and surprisingly enjoyed 2 Bjork albums on this 1,001 albums journey already, I was looking forward to listening to this when it popped up this morning. But what I got was that weird / jerky/ experimental Bjork that I thought I’d get on the other 2 albums. This did nothing for me. Her voice was so front and centre of all of it, I could hardly hear any of the clever musical arrangements and the variety of instruments underneath. And her vocal arrangement felt like it was deliberately quirky and angry to the point of making it unenjoyable and almost unlistenable. It was a break up album I believe. And when she’s in this mood I’d run as fast as I could in case she wanted to get back together.
The machine gun drums are just too annoying over not a lot else 1
Is this what they listen to in Iceland?

Odd album, Not one I would listen to again and not one of Bjorks finest. I find Bjorks voice a tough listen. The lyrics are just odd, there is very little story telling. The Indie Mariah Carey - vocal gymastics for the sake of it. The songs are hard to hear as I find the voice so overpowering. And not in a good way.
This would have been great without the vocals. Such a bloody drone.

I didn’t last long, thought I was halfway through and looked to see that was the end of track 2.
I feel like Bjork is a practical joke that I'm not in on. I truly don't get her. This album was typical of times I've tried before. Strained lyrics over orchestral/electronic/both that only sometimes sound like they were recorded for the same track. There must be something to it but it's lost on me.
I normally like Bjork, this was fairly unlistenable.
Well...never listened to a Bjork song or album before and now I know why. I have no idea what the hell I just listened to. I'm about 45 albums into this challenge and this is the only one that I literally could not wait to be over. There is absolutely nothing that connects with me on this album. Totally and absolutely bizarre (at best). Just a weird and chaotic mix of an orchestra, a voice, and technological production sounds that make no sense. I can't even pick a favorite track, but if forced to...I'll go with Quicksand because it's the only track that sounds like a semblance of a song...and it (thankfully) ends the album.

I liked the instrumentals, but stopped liking the song once vocals came on. Just do not enjoy this style of singing.
Like other Björk albums, mute Björk and you have a decent album. I feel that Björk's whole appeal is the "Experimental" tag that comes with it. her voice is flat, boring and over dramatic. It's that friend/colleague who insist that they can sing and you can't really disagree because she went to art school and you don't wanna sound like someone who don't "get it". -2/5 Production wise 3/5 .it has cool electronic touches and beautiful orchestrations. The part in 'Atom Dance' where she don't sing has some cool beats and most of the orchestrations are lush and beautifully composed.

I've often wondered if Bjork was deaf. Apparently not. She just makes me wish I was. It's not all bad. The composition and musicianship are outstanding. Her voice and lyrics though... just no thank you.
I'm sorry... I hate Bjök, her singing just hurts my ears. I liked it in combination with the music of the Sugarcubes, but her Solo stuff is unbearable for me.

I didn't really enjoy this at all.
Another Björk album? This is 4 in total. Her previous solo albums were bad. Her group album was barely tolerable. So why not add another? Turns out she still releases awful music in 2015
Electronica, ambient, indie, female, polyphonic, mid, strings, dark, drama, very limited beats/song structures, long songs, very much focused on her voice. As much as I "respect" her as an artist (what a stupid phrase), not enough for me, no additional spin.

I don't get it. At all. Read any other of my reviews for Bjork. She's terrible, shouldn't have a single album on the list, let alone 4+?!?!?
The most overrated artist in the history of pop music
Benieuwd! haar debuut heb ik volgens mij met een welgemeende 4 sterren beoordeeld, dus hoge verwachtingen van dit album! Het is veeeeeeel experimenteler dan het debuut album. Waar dat een lekker elektronisch pop album was is dit veel duidelijker experimenteel en lopen de nummers niet meer zo goed door. Ik ben absoluut minder fan van dit album dan van het vorige album. Het is veel experimenteler, het is muzikaal minder en het is gewoon algeheel minder leuk dan het vorige. Vind leuk domme kritiek, maar het klopt wel echt bij dit album. Black Lake intrigeert me heel erg, ook omdat daar best wel veel gebeurt. Had dit nummer echter 10 minuten lang moeten zijn? Dat weet ik niet zo goed. Ik was met 5 minuten ook wel echt gelukkig geweest. Family daarna is echt een wakkerword momentje hoor. WTF. Ok, ik heb het echt geprobeerd, maar ik vind dit album echt helemaal niets. Het is mij te experimenteel en ik vind hier gewoon echt heel weinig aan. FAVO:

I heard of Bjork, but never listened to her music. After this I don't think I ever will again. Music was cool and I was vibe-ing it, but as soon as her voice came in it wasn't for me.

Even before attempting to listen to this I knew it was getting 1 star. 10 seconds in and that's enough of this shit for me.
I can't believe this is the 5th god damn Bjork or Bjork collaboration album (The Sugarcubes) I've gotten on this journey. Twice, MAYBE thrice at most but 5 times!? Bjork!? Over other infinitely more talented artists that somehow didn't make this 1001 list!?!? Album sucks as usual. 58 minutes of yelling into the wind off the coast of Iceland. 2/10

If Björk had been born 40 years later, she would be a TikTok livestreamer. She's the first quirky girl and her biggest sin is not realizing how ungodly boring she is. "What if I put FL Studio glitch sound effects into my songs?" Wow. Never been done before. Björk is truly an experimental visionary. She's been doing the same thing since "Homogenic" in 1997 and music critics have been eating it up, because they have a special dictionary where the word "Experimentation" is defined as: "noun - the act of mumbling over video game pause music". I don't even think she cares about music anymore. Her albums are just an excuse for her to dress up in wacky costumes for the cover.
