Reviews (page 12 of 14)

Sounded like all of the other Led Zeppelin albums I’ve had to listen to. I only knew Whole Lotta Love.

Really glad I listened with earbuds. +10 points for the LOTR reference. Listened before? N Saved to library? N Favorite track(s): What Is and What Should Never Be, The Lemon Song, Heartbreaker, Ramble On ⭐⭐⭐: Liked it. Saved some tracks.

Another one I've heard a few times before. My hot Zeppelin take is that even though I-IV get most of the acclaim, Houses of the Holy and Physical Graffiti are both better than any of them. That's not to say that I-IV are bad albums by any means, just not my favourites However, of the four "numbered" albums, II is the one that I've probably heard the least, and therefore enjoy the least, so let's see if a relisten will raise it in my estimation. My faves: Whole Lotta Love What is and What Should Never Be Thank You Heartbreaker Ramble On Bring It On Home Also good but not quite my speed: The Lemon Song Not for me: Living Loving Maid Moby Dick (controversial I know but it's essentially a glorified drum solo, and works way better in a live setting) I enjoyed this relisten more than I expected, and actually ended up adding a couple of additional songs to my playlist. I'd have to give this a solid 3/5.

Filler takes up the album but there's still some highlights. 3/5

3/5 First album from this genre, it sounded good but there were moments where I was just waiting for the song to continue. I will probably have to listen again when I have more experience with hard rock albums

Bãozin

It’s Led Zeppelin alright. Having listened to their later albums only (IV and beyond), hearing their older stuff actually makes me appreciate the new. Old Zepp still goes hard, but there’s a lack of refinement in it that’s not there in albums like IV or Physical Graffiti. You can still hear they’re a young band here but even still, they manage to hit hard. Favorite songs- Whole Lotta Love, Ramble On

This was like the other 3 Led Zeppelin albums I've heard on this list. There was the odd song where I thought "This is pretty good", but for the most part it was all very middle of the road. This album is probably the weakest of the 4. Partially because Whole Lotta Love, the main song, is such a thinly covered reference to Robert Plant's penis that it might as well be bareback. It's still just about a 3 though. Like the rest of them.

It's Zeppelin. I think anyone who likes rock music knows exactly what they're getting when they put on a Zeppelin album. My opinion - very good, but overplayed.

Listen, it’s undoubtedly really fucking good rock n roll. It’s just that I don’t really love rock n roll.

Not as good as IV.

1969 Ramble on, it certainly does... Always thought of LZ as a Greatest Hits band, this doesn't change my opinion. Heard before ❌️ Listened this time ✅️ Revisit ❌️ Cock rock ★★★☆☆ (6/10)

There will be occasional sparks of genius (such as the gnarly sliding guitar on Whole Lotta Love) which put me in the mind of the majority of people who adore Led Zep. There’s some very clever flourishes, bits of surprising songwriting. But at their core they make music which doesn’t appeal to my sensibilities. It’s a me thing.

this is a beast of a band i don't really care for. but for '69 it is undeniable how ahead of the times they were. even if you don't know this by name, you've heard it - radio, media, EVERYTHING. Whole Lotta Love is not theirs, Heartbreaker is theirs, so i would say this proves the era of pulling ahead of covers into the 70's and having only their own material to stand on. my dad loves this shit and i must have heard this start to finish ten times. it doesn't hit like other shit does for me, and i have tried. there is a lot goin on now that i listen to it again, and to be there would have something to do with it, being so fresh and gigantic. it is arena rock blasting blues, that's all, but that shit was an experience in 1970 and forward. they've always felt too big to care about, and you're gunna hear these songs whether you buy them or not. the takeaway of how coming-all-together-at-the-right-time-ness this has is insane. i like the first record better, and they all kinda mid out after this album, but this is my second fave of theirs and its unmistakably their absolute peak. idgaf about Stairway to Heaven, i really don't. 3/5 because i would never turn this on before LZ1.

this album feels more consistent than their other albums, not all songs are a hit for me there is a lot of miss but you can’t deny the good songs are good

This is obviously a classic, and “Whole Lotta Love” undoubtedly deserves its place in the rock canon. I wish I could hear the album as I might’ve in 1969. Fifty-plus years later, I sometimes hear excess. Does that extended guitar solo on “The Lemon Song” need to be there? What about all that dang drumming on “Moby Dick?” How many times can Robert Plant sing the word “baby?” Hmm. Anyway, thank heavens for Robert Plant’s vocals! They’re what keep me engaged. At the end of the day, I’m just more interested in what came in the wake of Led Zeppelin than in the band’s own sound. That’s my own failing, I’m sure.

You'd need a Revolver to make me listen to it again. Perhaps influential and revolutionary at the time but this ain't it fr

High bar going in. IV was a 5 in my book, we'll see where this goes. It's all going to come down to the b-sides for me, and some of the stuff I haven't heard a ton. So having listened to two zeppelin albums on this journey, the one thing that I keep coming back to is that it's all very long-winded. Both lyrically and musically. For every Living Loving Maid (2:39) there's a The Lemon Song (6:19). This isn't bad, just an observation. That said, I don't think this album is bad at all just...kinda boring? It also just makes me want to listen to the Zep songs that I like more than anything on this album (Levee, Immigrant Song, Kashmir, etc.) All around Meh for me.

It's good but I wouldnt return

Funkier than I thought it would be. Not bad. Quite catchy and cool.

I like parts of this album, like the drum solo is moby dick, but most of the time the songs are too long for their own good and Robert plant is definitely not my favorite vocalist

I’ve always been ambivalent on them

Regarded as the quintessential hard rock and heavy metal album. That’s enough to have put me off listening to it all these years, until now. I just can’t get any enjoyment from the rock screechings of Robert Plant.

some of the songs are bangers but when they start singing about lord of the rings sorry i just kinda tune out

I liked the rhythm section a lot (namely those basslines), and although I wasn’t as keen on the vocals, I had a pleasant time with this one. I can’t say I’m a massive fan of this sort of bluesy hard rock, but I also can’t say that this is bad or underwhelming music in any way. A good album but not one I plan on regularly revisiting.

another album opener i didn’t know i’d know, it’s a classic tbf not feeling this one as much as III the style of guitar doesn’t do a lot for me, it was pleasant background music and had some nice moments but i don’t care much for it either way the plucky guitar in thank you is pretty good 3 stars or 66/100 faves Thank You and Bring it on home least faves idk maybe Living Loving Maid but i don’t dislike any songs, just unenthused

All four of the numbered albums are top class, but this is third best. Well worth your time though.

Songs are nostalgic for sure, but don’t think I had ever listened to this whole album in a sitting. There were some good grooves and some great singles but the wailing vocals could be a bit much. Overall, meh.

The first half is so good (4 stars), the second half is too experimental for me

Pretty good, just not really my thing

Some classics but not as good as I was expecting

I have no notes

It rocks. I rolled my eyes and sighed at the beginning of some tracks because if their ubiquity or obvious blues-rock formula but quickly found myself tapping my toes. Done just right. Not my fave LZ album though.

They were in the right place at the right time. Definitely some good playing from all members here but these songs haven’t aged well, they’re just ok.

My initial take after finishing this was "Wow a lot of these sounded the same..." but saw I had added half of them to a playlist on only one listen. If it ain't broke don't fix it? I think I preferred this to LZ1

Zeppelin II, a pretty good album from Led Zeppelin. Some iconic riffs on this thing, like on "Heartbreaker" which I completely forgot existed. Huge drawback though: the lyrics. Goddamn I cannot stand hearing Robert Plant "baby baby baby" his way through some of these songs. Does any woman treat this guy right?? Incredible voice, but at this point in Zepp's career he was definitely not flexing his pen game.

I would personally rate the second album lower than the first. While there wasn't any songs which were duds, it did appear like some songs got filler added in of repeated noises, etc. that kind of took you out of the song. "Whole Lotta Love" from the start was an example of this with the "breathing"ish noises in the middle of the song. I would give this a 3.5.

A few bangers on the album but I was never really a big fan of their vocals. The instrumentals and arrangements are good throughout. Standouts: Whole Lotta Love & Heartbreaker.

Joar ganz ok. ging irgendwie schnell vorbei. - "squeeze me, baby, till the juice runs down my leg" - "... alrighty"

Classic

Not a personal fave but I see what it did for rock

Probably my least fav Led Zeppelin album, I just dont like the structure of most songs here. The musicianship is top as always.

None of these songs hit for me except one, though this is due to personal taste. Its not really my style of music

Damn I loved the first Led Zeppelin but the sequel left a lot to be desired. I think if they had spent a year working on it, it would be a lot better.

glaub no easy gsi oder? nöd vill hange bliebe – aber glaub no easy gsi oder? jaja glaub no easy gsi

alright rock album. Would sound much better on vinyl, the spotify fidelity was not enjoyably.

Verwachtingspatroon was meteen weg. Beste: What Is and What Should Never Be / Bring It On Home / Thank You Minste: Moby Dick Albumhoes: Mooi? Niet perse. Conceptueel wel cool. 3/5

3/5 geile zanger rambled on terwijl gedrogeerde band lekker hun ding doet

Robert Plant: I’m gonna give you every inch of my love Way down inside woman you need love Squeeze me, baby, til the juice runs down my leg Also Robert Plant: 'Twas in the darkest depths of Mordor I met a girl so fair But Gollum and the evil one Crept up and slipped away with her Do I like this album, or have I heard these famous songs a lot? I never went through a Zeppelin phase so I don’t have the nostalgic attachment or appreciation that others have. To me this is a collection of undeniable classic hits with some filler.

When this album came up, I was excited. It's Zeppelin... I love Zeppelin... I know this album... I like this album... right? I've now listened to it 3 times and i feel pretty neutral on it. I don't hate it. But maybe i've outgrown it? 16 year old me really did enjoy this album. Maybe not as much as Led Zeppelin 4... but i do remember liking this one. And now I feel a general shrug. The guitar work is impressive... the riffs are iconic. There's a good amount of variety in the track list... it's rarely boring. The drum work is amazing (of course). The bass is coool. The lyrics are.... something. I always forget how dirty Whole Lotta Love is (it's jarring when you listen too close). I find the less I think about he lyrics on this album, the better. I really don't have many bad things to say about this album. And I have said some good things... but i'm almost numb to them? Maybe i've just been overexposed to Zeppelin over the years and they no longer feel special to me. Some of these songs have been on the radio my entire life and in movies and media, plus i had a Zeppelin phase in high school where I listened a lot. I just don't feel excited by them anymore... at least not this album. The only exception being the ending rave up bit on Lemon Song and Ramble On. Those 2 parts still rock. I'm now realizing that whenever I listen to Zeppelin these days it's normally late career stuff like Over the Hills and far away OR D'yer Mak'er or fool in the rain (my fav zeppelin song). Maybe the early stuff is just not for me anymore. Anyways, this album feels like a 2.5... but for nostalgia, i'll go 3.

not bad, some good songs

Starts experimental and chaotic. Late 60s UK rock. Greeat guitar riffs. Spacious rock songs. Some random rambling tracks, long solos.

My favorite so far from them. Opens well with 'Whole lotta love' and 'Ramble on' is a great track later on. Lots of energy from Jimmy throughout.

All the Led Zeppelin albums we've had to date have been a pleasant surprise - but for this one, which felt like the worst of all the things they get a bad rep for: histrionic blues-aping (Lemon Song), navel gazing self-seriousness (Thank You) combined with guitar & drum solo wankery (Moby Dick, Heartbreaker.) I still liked a few songs better than I expected (What Is & What Should Never Be, and Ramble On) but don't know I'd re-visit any of this but for those.

Another solid effort - every Led Zep album I've heard so far contains multiple great tracks. I was gonna say this proves (if I ever truly doubted it) that they weren't just a singles band, but then I read that they never released any singles in the UK anyway, so I guess *that* would be what proves they weren't just a singles bed.... Anyway, despite all that, what I'd consider to be the 'hits' on this album aren't among my favourites (as iconic as Whole Lotta Love is), and the deep cuts seem more 'filler-y' than usual here. 3.5 (3 for enjoyment, plus a bonus half star for importance).

mér fannst þetta reyndar bara býsna gott. er lítið fyrir zeppelin almennt. en ætla að gefa þessu annan séns. 3,5.

Musically grown up against Rockism. Not my cup of tea

Could have been a great album if they had trimmed songs lenght. Some go on far to long

Nothing special

defeny

they had more vocal parts than the newest songs. love it.

Lyrics are a bit of a hard listen, can see why it was influential musically

Wasn't memorable for me

Stark 7/10

I’ll probably like it more on a re listen but this is first impressions. Future Erin will like this more.

Listened to this on the way to work this morning after the sun had come up but wasn’t fully risen. This album is a hammer! I will definitely admit I had kinda turned my nose to rock because I had only been listening to newer stuff that didn't hit the same way as when I was a kid. That's not to say I listened to Led Zeppelin as a kid. I really didn't. My sister had one album, maybe, but thinking back I'm almost certain it was an album by The Who. I don't think I'll go track-by-track like I was planning with the first album I got, because I am not that invested. I definitely recognized the Ramble On song, but what I noticed this time around is the very explicit Lord of the Rings reference. Very topical to me right now since Lina and I are watching the movies, and I'm re-reading the books. It's not as good work music for me since it's very active and I like listening to the lyrics and everything, but still a nice album to have on. What stood out to me was the bass guitar in the tracks. Low, rhythmic, and still very groovy. It's the type of music where I think "If I practice I can play this," which only made me want to be in a band again. I would play the bass guitar and I would jam with friends and it would be free and fun! Bring It on Home also starts with a nice bit of harmonica. Can't get enough of that bluesy little thang. I had several harmonicas growing up. I most likely got them from White Fence Farm which is a now defunct restaurant/experience. It was a multi-acre farm-themed restaurant that served very traditional American comfort food. Fried chicken, pickled beets, hush puppies, corn fritter, green beans, the works. We went there semi-often when I was a kid. I remember it being a place we would take my paternal grandparents. There was a small little history museum, a nice gift shop which had a slide from a second floor arcade/play area leading to it. The part I always loved was the playground. Immersive in a way that your kid brain says "even a grown up would think this is cool." And while I might have a confirmation bias this grownup does think it's cool. I would have loved to take my daughter there so she could play on the playground--but not before she finishes the dinner she probably doesn't like all that much. And we'll bicker at the table 'cause I want her to eat healthy, but also give off an impression to my parents that says "I do respect my dad and he doesn't always give me junk food." I don't give her junk food all the time, but I still want my parents to think I'm doing a good job parenting. Oh and back to what I was saying: I got a golden harmonica from there one time and then took it apart years later and let it sit in a baggie on my bathroom counter for probably 2-3 months, at least. Anyway pretty good album. This one is a bit shorter so it'll probably get about 4-5 plays today.

The car sounds in Whole Lotta Love are very funny. Not a bad album though. 3.5/5

Very good one, but suffers from Led Zeppelin-ism: Few great songs, and a bit of filler inside. Glad I found it for 2 bucks on vinyl tho. ⭐⭐⭐1/2

Pretty nice. high 3/5

A little underwhelming

Thoroughly enjoyable although not their best, gets a little lost towards the end.

Whole Lotta Love is a banging opening and, while an enjoyable listen, ultimately this record didn't grab my attention fully.

Great opening but lost interest after that

it was fine

Led Zeppelin have an obvious quality as musicians and Robert Plant has a fantastic voice. Yet somehow they have never really resonated with me and the slower blues rock tracks are overlong and a bit of a bore. I sold my vinyl copy a few years back and lets just say I have no regrets.

Lots of sounds but his voice is a bit annoying for a whole album.

The guitar solo in Whole Lotta Love always makes me smile. On the other hand, Robert Plant's 10 minute orgasm is just icky. And Ramble On is just fantastic, until the hobbits show up.

The highs are high, the lows are middling.

So wonderfully self indulgent. It would be 2 stars except that they had the hubris to ship a track that's mostly a drum solo, but named after Moby Dick

Felt very much like your standard affair from Led Zeppelin. It didn't blow MY mind, but I know others who's mind it would blow. You can also very much hear how this music influenced Greta Van Fleet and their sound.

As I have aged, this one hasn’t aged quite as well with me. I would’ve 5-starred it in my late teens/early 20s. 3 now.

Gives me exactly what I expect from a Led Zeppelin album. No real standouts for me on this. Would put it below the debut and Physical Graffiti of those i've listened to during this.

Rock, 1969 -> 3

I liked it but wasn't something I would go back to. It was old school rock but not too heavy, I liked the electric guitar throughout and they had some drum sessions which I thought where cool. The long bongos one that turns in to the heavy rock song I liked.

ich cha mer vorstelle, dasses eig no gueti musig isch, aber si gfallt mer nöd.

Im going to say it: Led Zepplin are over rated. I respect the quality of the guitar playing and the signature 70's rock sound and some excellent songs, but this isnt ground breaking. Its derivative of better blues and is pompous as fuck.

I’ve tried. Can’t get into Led Zeppelin. Nothing that interesting to me

I'm never really going to seek out Zeppelin. It's fine.

I don't listen to Led Zep much these days. But as a teenager in the early 70s I loved them, and I expect a lot of people still do. Led Zeppelin 2 was never my favourite though - I preferred the four albums that followed it.

A good album, though certainly not Led Zeppelin's best. Some great hits and progression, and then you have bad tracks like The 🍋 Song and Living Loving Maid. Still an all around positive experience. 3/5

alright not my vibe

Good band, bad singer.

Generic classic rock.

Some great drumming on this album. Some of the songs and lyrics are a little repetitive and basic (we get it, you’re gonna give love) but overall a good one to rock out to.

Really nice drum solos in tracks and the bass in some songs slapped. This coming out in 1969 would have blown some minds. "Whole lotta love" that break down with the rides were cool. These riffs are so dated in 2025 but can understand the significance for the time. Loved when they were getting in touch with more experimental side of things but all the riffs were sounding the same to me. The blues were cool. Would rather here a black guy singing those melodies in those tracks. "Moby Dick" was my favourite track with the transition into "Bringing it Home". Would be into Hendrix more if I lived in 1969 or maybe The Doors. There are better Zeppelin albums IMO. 6/10

I don’t know that there’s more to say about this band that hasn’t already been said.

The album was pretty fun to listen to. Maybe not the genre that I would go out of my way to listen to but the guitar heavy sound was really cool. I wouldn't put any of the songs in my playlist but I wouldn't skip it if it started playing

It's classic and chunky. Happy I listened to it, but I probably won't do so again.

whole lotta noise... but some of it rocks

Overall not bad. I liked it more at the beginning but I feel like it seemed very repetitive after that. No songs really stood out. I was going to give it a 3/5 but I have to reduce it to 2.5/5 because there was a point where I was like “oh, I like this song” and I realized that the album was over and it was just auto playing

I didn't really like the album besides Whole Lotta Love and Heartbreaker. I would have loved it in the past but my musical taste changed so much that it ends up being too simplistic or boring even. I know it's sacrilege to say that about Zeppelin but it's how it made me feel.

Not my thing but not bad to listen to. Some songs on here I already knew which was a nice bonus

It was alright

6/10 some good, some very bad (whole lotta love) but that just evens out a bit. 01-07-2025

Enjoyed it but not massively my style.

Led Zeppelin II - Led Zeppelin (1969) That's it? That's your critically acclaimed, 16th highest rated album on this website? That was just the vocalizations of sex provided by Robert Plant over some otherwise ok rock instrumentals. I can somewhat appreciate the fact that this is neat as a product of the late 60's. But I just don't understand why some people look at this band with an almost mystical whimsy. Wow you made songs about nerdy shit, big whoop. We have an entire generation of autistic youth who grew up on Minecraft music videos but I don't think they are being lauded as the best thing since sliced bread. Oh and it doesn't justify the pedophilia either

Pretty solid Led Zeppelin, but not quite their best. Whole Lotta Love is great but the rest kind of blends together. 7/10

I like Led Zeppelin, but didn’t like II as well as III or IV…

Absolutely love certian Led Zep tracks, the opener (Whole Lotta Love), obviously it one of the all time best , and most theatrical, of rock performances. , but I'm not such a Led Zep album listener, and this is a bit of a rambling indulgeance, but worth a listen.

Fab, reminds me of some seminal moments in my life

Gimme III. Kind of wish I liked blues/hard rock. It's a deep vein. Maybe in my 40's.

Do I need to have seen the first Led Zeppelin to understand the plot of this one?

These guys are all solid musicians, and there are some great riffs throughout (and a superb drum solo on "Moby Dick"). That said, Zeppelin for me only scratches a very particular itch, and otherwise leaves me wanting. I know "Whole Lotta Love" is an iconic track, but it doesn't do much for me anymore. It's kind of boring. I did like them more when I was younger, but over the years, Plant's vocal hystrionics have honestly come to grate on me a bit. And so much of the lyrics are "ooooOOOOOoohh W-W-W-woman pleeeEEEEAAaase". Okay. And the whole "squeeze my lemon until juice drips down my leg" isn't clever, or funny, or daring, it's just immensely cringe. That said, they bring a confidence here that's kind of infectious, and while this album isn't a favourite of mine, it still does more right than it does wrong. Fav tracks: What Is and What Should Never Be, Thank You, Living Loving Maid (She's Just a Woman), Moby Dick

This hit a lot less for me than Physical Graffiti, but Page is so good on these tracks. Plant is still the weak link for me as he seems to ramble and stumble into phrases, almost improv as recording. It dawned on me this time that he had a Janis type of vibe, so his voice is growing on me.

Iconic but annoying. Maybe classic rock is not my thing. Drum solos are dumb. Overly long drum solos are idiotic.

A lively experience! *Favorite tracks: Whole Lotta Love What Is and What Should Never Be Heartbreaker

The weakest of the "Self Titled" quadrilogy. None of the songs had any significant impact on me. I think this album could've done without "Moby Dick". "II" is a good album but not compared to other classics. Tomorrow starts another week of reviewing. I'll give "Self Titled II" 3 stars.

I had no idea this was from the 60s, I genuinely thought it was early 80s for some reason. Really ahead of its time. That makes it even better. Some strange lyrics but it's mostly about the instrumentation for this. Highlights: Whole Lotta Love Thank You

I respect Led Zeppelin for their work, but I'm too ignorant to discriminate between them and other Rockbands of their time and afterwards (!)... I'm sorry fellow rockers, I hope you can forgive me

Unlike its predecessor, this album is sloppy and unfocused. There are the usual Zeppelin ripoffs of blues artists. The album is redeemed by the ballad "Thank You," and the bass and keyboard work of John Paul Jones, the band's most valuable player throughout its run.

Solid LZ album though not overly memorable. Very bluesy, classic rock n roll feel. Probably a 3.5/5

It was fun, but I wasn't blown away by this album like I was with Led Zeppelin III.

Classic rock is classic rock.

3.5 stars, not quite worthy of a four. Love Led Zeppelin, and there are some interesting songs on this album, but overall it may be my least favourite of their albums. Music seems quasi-directionless at times. Decent listen nonetheless!

Why didn't they make this a live album. It appears to be how it has been structured. The solo performances are excellent but seem out of place. This is a great band but they demonstrate it rarely here. When it works it really does.

Led Zeppelin in their most boring iteration to me - white boy blues

Led Zeppelin maintains their steady 3 star rating by deepening the contrast between rhythmic rockers (cool, half plagiarized) and the dumbest overwrought oohh baby vocals you've ever heard. Opening the album with the worst of that is a very Zeppelin choice to make. The Heartbreaker guitar soloing is silly, except that the end going back into the rhythm part (and only for a few seconds before soloing takes off again) is one of the coolest things Zeppelin ever did. Heartbreaker and Ramble On are highlights of Shuffle Zeppelin, the correct way to listen to this band. You can drive down the coast of California or through Idaho and Shuffle Zeppelin has got the rocker part of your playlist covered. music: ...appreciated. (⌐-_-)

This is the fourth (I think) Led Zep I’ve encountered on here, and I think I’ve said it all in a general sense. For this one I will add: Ramble On is a great song, and it’s so funny that it sounds like a lyrically normal dumb rock song for about 3 minutes and then all the sudden Plant starts singing about Mordor and Gollum and you realize that’s what it was about the whole time.

I think I enjoyed this more than the last LZ album I had on this list, which I think was IV? Can’t remember what I rated that one but this one felt more like classic what I’d expect from Led Zeppelin.

Whole lotta (some) love for this album, it was decent

Good album

classic rock classic rockin'

Didn’t really enjoy this album.

Enjoyable guitar stuff, but they were too up for experimental stuff which made some of the tracks a bit odd.

It was okay.

Better than the debut for sure, maybe not as good as 3 or 4. I do really like Zeppelin but I’m indifferent to their albums. As much as I like them, if I was making a list of essential albums they probably wouldn’t make it.

Hey, you know what, list? My opinion of this band is changing with the inexplicable volume of their albums you make me listen to. They all sound the same. What is this? 1001 artist whose complete discography you need to hear before you die?

Four nonces dry hump their instruments for 40 minutes. Some good guitar solos.

Kind of underwhelming

6/10 - it was alright. I didn’t love it but some of the songs I had heard before and were decent. Ramble on is pretty good and whole lotta love is alright but the middle was strange.

It’s fine but I expected a lot more from one of the highest rated albums on the site

I really like Led Zeppelin and the thing is that although pretty much all of their songs are nice, the majority are pretty meh, especially compared to the really great several hits that they have. There is one song that is really good in this album, and also 2-3 ones that are half good, and because I am rating this whole album, I have to give it a mid rating, unlike this one Led Zeppeling album that I rated, which had a few really good songs.

I've heard that this album was heavily influential, and several of the songs hold up well 50+ years later. As an entire album, I don't find it very cohesive. The remaster makes me wish it was recorded better. One particularly bright point was "Bring it on Home" at the end; a track I hadn't heard before but loved.

Liked it but didn’t really listen properly as Russ was here and we were chatting. I have times when I love them and times when I can’t be bothered with them

*puts album on* ... "hmm, I'm beginning to think he's not actually talking about love" *gets to 'lemon song'* ... "😐" I liked it more than Physical Graffiti but less than Led Zeppelin IV

This was more boring than I was expecting based on the tracklist. I like "Ramble On", but other than that, nothing really stood out.

i mean, i'm never gonna argue with the RNG giving us led zeppelin. even mid led zeppelin is neutral listening for me.

Horny white British nerds pretending to be black American blues musicians. As a white nerd I'm not completely turned off of led Zeppelin generally, but this album kinda rubs me the wrong way. I think it's just too much led Zeppelin.

A few goodies, a few boring moments. Nothing that really blew me away.

Not as iconic as other Led Zeppelin albums, but still one or two bangers

Led Zeppelin II: A Solid but Uneven Effort Led Zeppelin II is a cornerstone of classic rock, but this album showcases a band still finding its footing. Tracks like "Whole Lotta Love" and "Heartbreaker" are undeniable anthems, raw and powerful. However, the album's consistency falters, with some tracks feeling filler-like. While it’s a must-listen for any rock fan, Zeppelin's later work would surpass this album in terms of overall cohesion and brilliance.

Well made album, just for whatever reason not really my thing. Feels like too much chanting instead of actual music

It's definitely Led Zeppelin but not my favorite Led Zeppelin.

enjoyed but sometimes forgot i was listening

Potentiale men vil gerne høre ddt igen

Too bluesy. They stole too much. Whole Lotta Love is damn catchy though.

I enjoyed the melodic vocal fry of Robert Plant and the instrumental rather than lyric emphasis. I can very much appreciate the place at the beginnings of heavy metal that this album claims. Also was nice to hear the obligatory all drums track somewhere in the middle of the album. Reminded me a lot of BS's Rat Salad. Overall I won't listen to this again but won't rate it too low because i dislike it for reasons relating particularly to personal taste.

Everybody was clearly high AF in the 60’s.

Obra prima do rock

This is probably a 3.5. 4’s and5’s LZ albums coming soon.

Musically good and legendary although not quite to my taste

This band is really all you need from this era of rock

I went into this wanting to give it at least a 4/5 purely for Led Zep’s influence & reputation, but by the end I wasn't feeling it, it's been downgraded to a 3. Yes, Whole Lotta Love is one of the all-time greatest rock songs, and there are a few other bangers like Heartbreaker and Ramble On, but as a collection it didn't draw me in as much as I thought it would.

this cover art sucks and this cheese makes me queasy

I actually liked this one more than I thought I would, but it's still 3 stars.

this more enjoyable than the other led zep I've listened to from this list, but still nothing stellar. just more overrated, dusty, dry dad rock made by cultural appropriators with a penchant for underage girls. i knew whole lotta love going into this, but none of the other tracks. found a few other decent ones, especially the lord of the rings-inspired ramble on. the rest ranged from mid (thank you) to masturbatory (moby dick) to downright unsavory (the lemon song). i really don't need to hear ol' bobby plant demanding a woman squeeze his lemon until the juice runs down his leg. favorites: whole lotta love, heartbreaker, living loving maid, ramble on

Whole Lotta Love+++ Heartbreaker++ Ramble On+ The lemon song+ Je trouve les autres morceaux moins intéressants.

just kind of bland classic rock

I listened on CD as I own this album, and... well. The only song I'll put it on for again is Ramble On. Blues Metal Cock Rock wankery, that one. Oh god, so much wankery. Oh, and fucking. The fucking.

It's pretty good. I found it easy to get distracted while listening to it. I'd take IV over it.

Much bluesier than my impression of Led Zeppelin. Enjoyed this, but didn't have any of their classic all-time singles.

While this isn't my cup of tea, I can see how it was revolutionary. What a mix of all genres. I sometimes felt like I was at a church revival. The big guitar riffs and drums are spot-on, coupled with the repeated "hey" and "baby" lyrics of "The Lemon Song" for example. Reading their sexiest history, yikes!

Pretty standard classic rock album. I enjoyed the guitar riffs, however the mix however was a bit rough on the ears at some parts. It kinda felt like I was listening to the same song over and over again without any real standouts so the album did get a little tiring after a while. Loved that weird ass drum solo near the end of Moby Dick though 5/10

Listening to this again, it’s pretty clear that Spinal Tap really wasn’t all that much of a parody. When the opening track bangs on about being a ‘back door man’ giving every inch of his love there isn’t really any doubt about what he’s singing about. We also get a folky song about Gollum making off with the hero’s girlfriend in Mordor which I don’t remember from the books. Oh, and let’s not talk about the drum solo. The remastered version sounds good though

Great album, but to my ears it's become over played. I honestly prefer Zeppelin I or III.

Not bad for a record I totally underestimated.

Liked but didnt love

I know friends are going to hate me for this, but...meh.

These guys keep surprising me with a much softer aesthetic than I expect from their hits. All pretty good.

Some of the rough cuts were preferable to the album cuts. I can't get past some of the lyrics and noodling, but the bass is ten stars.

A mixed bag. Some great stuff (WLL), and some some well executed but otherwise run of the mill blues (Lemon Song)

On one hand Led Zeppelin is a competent blues rock band singing about sex with crunchy guitar riffs. On the other hand, they're myth and fantasy lyrics with English folk. When the latter is mixed with the former the band has originality, without it they are quite overrated. This album is Led Zeppelin still firmly entrenched in their blues side. For the white audience of the time, and probably much of the audience now, such a competent rendition of the former probably blew away many. As someone who loves the blues, I find the band good but a little too smug and lacking heart. If you want deeper expression the likes of Robert Johnson, Charlie Patton, Mississippi Fred McDowell, Bukka White, and many other classic blues artists are better choices. This band follows in the footsteps of Muddy Waters and Howlin' Wolf, where a masculine posturing and attitude is front and center, throwing other emotions away in the process. Their music is higher production than Wolf, but when he goes long and indulgent he is genuine. For an example listen to Wolf's Tell Me What I've Done live at Cambridge Ma. 1966. It's on YouTube at the time of this post. What separates Zeppelin from the blues classics is their rough rock sound that crunches along thickly and the band's flashiness mixed with their solidly structured music. It is sure to attract people more attuned to rock due to the 'heavy' sound of its time, but it isn't as mind-blowing to blues lovers because while musically competent, it lacks a certain emotional oomph next to the greats of the genre they take from. The small peeks into their fantasy side in the track Ramble On is therefore the highlight for me.

it's not too bad, not my favourite zeppelin album. aside from whole lotta love and heartbreaker it feels a bit ehh

Their weakest effort, excepting Coda. It was put together hurriedly, while touring, and it sounds it. There are high points ("Whole Lotta Love," "The Lemon Song"), and part of the problem is that it suffers by comparison with their rip-roaring debut. But on its own merits it's just not all there.

Like this, but don't love this. This is gonna sound sacrilege - I feel like the guitar is "too much" on this album. Instead of adding to the music or complimenting the vocals, at times it's competing at the same time. A little too "noodle-y" for me. There are a couple songs that have these goofy solo parts that just take me out of it completely.

favorite: heartbreaker least favorite: moby dick

Nostalgia pull was there for this one. After hearing it again, I don't know if I'd ever return to it in full. "Heartbreaker" remains the repository of sloppy Jimmy Page guitar playing. But man, what a rhythm section.

Whole lotta love slaps of course and the whole album is nice. But…. No other track wowed me.

Unobjectionable!

The guitars on this album are so good I'm literally obsessed with them, the vocals alone knock it down to a 3 though

I’ve had a few Led Zeppelin albums generated now. So far, I’ve generally enjoyed them but haven’t really been blown away by them. Perhaps they’re a band where you had to be there at the time to really appreciate them, although I once thought that about The Beatles and I love them now… Songs I already knew: Whole Lotta Love Favourites: Whole Lotta Love This felt pretty much in line with the other albums I’ve heard. I enjoyed it, but I don’t think it will stick with me. I can’t really see myself seeking out this album again. The guitars are catchy and the vocals unique, but it just didn’t really catch me for whatever reason.

2.5 - I'd say this one is more consistently good than the first album, but there was nothing that grabbed me like the best tracks on Led Zeppelin I. Even those good songs are a bit long... I don't think Led Zeppelin will ever fully click for me, but I like some of their songs. While a couple songs on this album were better than the rest of the track list, I still don't really care about them, thus the rating.

The magna carta of hard blues rock for classic rock programmers.

Some good stuff

More like the last album, sublime blues rock that moves between soft and hard. B

Underwhelming

having a hard time with this one cause i was really into zep in college, and ii has so many classics on it. and it's easy to see how they were so influential with this coming out in 1969...but idk, as a finished front to back project it makes me feel gross. i hate the lyricism, and while a song like a heartbreaker or whole lotta love is fine on its own, these songs form a nasty package all together. deep cuts aren't too good either. 2.5/5

SEX, sex, sex....and some serious rock and roll. Guitar work is energetic, wonderful and fun, but lyrics are lacking. The style is certainly appropriate for the time and while fun to listen to, I found it still a little one noted. I should say that is one of my favorite times in US rock though, and maybe why I critically rate this one a little low.

Some great moments

Good to listen to again. Can’t help chuckling about Duran Duran’s cover of Thank You (and the whole of that covers album tbh) whenever I hear that track though

Of all the big hard rock bands that came out in the 60s and 70s, Led Zeppelin is one that I've been mildly on the fence about. While I love their 4th installment in the self-titled series, and admittedly I do love many of Page's riffs here, many of the songs on this album end up falling flat for me. This album is at its best during the punchier moments when the drums, bass, and riffs are driving these thunderous and relentless grooves. The muddiness, grit, loudness in the mix, and sheer stickiness of the riffs have always been what made LZ so iconic to me. The perfect example of this is the entire song "Heartbreaker", which especially during its final minutes, goes disgustingly hard with these noisy layers of guitar crashing against one another in the mix. It's such a great moment. I just wish the rest of the album was this thunderous and powerful. Rather, it's dominated by slower moments that are redundant, and uninteresting. I never understood the purpose nor placement of the percussion-driven interlude on "Whole Lotta Love" for example, it just bogs the song down. I'd say the worst part about the slower moments is that Plant's powerful vocals tend to shine better when he's being complimented by equally powerful instrumentation. This album meanders a lot and I think Plant's vocals, at least here, run a bit dry when he's just waffling. An example of this is in the quieter interlude of "The Lemon Song". I generally don't enjoy LZ's music for Plant's vocals; I even find them quite grating at times like on "Ramble On". Funnily enough, I sort of like "Moby Dick" a lot because it doesn't feature Plant's vocals, even the strange percussion interlude I find moderately charming. My thoughts on this album aren't all negative. Again when the riffs DO hit (usually at the beginning of most of these tracks), they sound great, rough, and dirty. I think that's what I generally like about these guys' albums. I also like the organ-backed love ballad "Thank You". I generally enjoy it when LZ switches up their songs with lighter acoustic instrumentation in the middle of their harsher albums. I enjoy the serenity of the synth-driven closing minute of this song, both lyrically and instrumentally. Overall, there are still many great *moments* here, but when looking for songs that I can say I enjoyed from front to back as just songs, I find they're few and far between.

Pretty good. What else to say? I expected to enjoy Led Zeppelin a bit more, but it was just a pretty solid album. 7/10 Top 3: 1. Living Loving Maid (She’s Just a Woman) 2. Thank You 3. Moby Dick

standouts: whole lotta love, living loving maid some single songs were good but i probably wouldnt listen to the whole album again

It is very clear where Greta Van Fleet's sound came from. Overall I liked the album, not heavy rock, some nice instrumentals.

probably closer to a 3.75 could i write poetry to this? y

Similar to Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin was a band I loved (and still dig their music!) but the shine has come off of them because of decades of poor imitators.

Never been a big fan of Led Zep and this did nothing to change my mind. Not bad but nothing that made me perk up. High 3.

Nothing on this album resonated with me very much. I listened to the Deluxe Edition with some bonus recordings and backing tracks, and they definitely didn't improve the experience.

Enjoyed it less than I thought I might but this is in the context of 2/3 of my first 20 albums being from the 60s and 70s - if I was a boomer it would be a dream come true to be hearing what I would truly believe was the best music ever made. I’m sure when you were a teen or twenty something in the era it would have absolutely felt that way and you’d be tutting at the terrible noise the kids these days listen to. Does this list have anything from the naughties (0/20 so far)? Only snippets from the 90s? I’m finding it hard to appreciate these albums on their individual merits while being ground down with a boomers eye view of music.

Horny rock should be a genre all of its own! I adore Led Zeppelin - this isn’t my favourite album, but it’s still fantastic. Unfortunately I can’t seperate the art from the artist, so this one is getting a star taken away for preying on underage girls. I spent so much of my teen years listening to Led Zeppelin with friends - they remain an important part of my music taste profile and nostalgia for that time in my life and the people I hung out with Fave track: every inch of Whole lotta love

Yet more boomer blues rock

It is a classic, but not exactly my kind of classic. The band sounds great, but I believe the first album captures better the blues and rawness of the group, and that they would achieve greater musical moments later in their career. But indeed, a fan album nonetheless.

Zeppelin is cool, especially the old stuff

The songs were almost always full with ups and downs moments, but overall nice album

Enjoyed but wasn’t amazing. A bit long winded.

Definitely a classic of hard rock with a strong blues influence. "Whole Lotta Love" and "Ramble On" are notable,

Led Zeppelin are good but never really grabbed me. Maybe I am missing something

I enjoyed hearing this. Though I never liked Led Zeppelin enough to buy any albums, discs, or downloads, I do enjoy hearing them. Driving rhythms, searing blues and family friendly lyrics. Squeeze my lemon until the juice runs down my leg.

I was never the biggest Led Zepplin fan. Their classics are indeed classics and I have many in my master mix and will crank them way up when needed, but I also felt there was a lot of self-indulgent stuff in there which I can skip over with little remorse. That's just me. Give it a listen. It's a classic.

Nice album! I don’t have much to say, but Jimmy Page absolutely rips. I kinda hate how 1/3 of the album was just covers, but it’s okay because they do those covers justice. 3.7/5 Fav: Heartbreaker Least Fav: Moby Dick

Highs: Ramble On and Thank You Lows: Robert Plant’s porn impression on Whole Lotta Love If these guys keep it up, they could be the next Greta Van Fleet!

Later led better

Pretty chill Zepp album. never listened to the whole thing. knew a couple of the popular ones, but didn’t hate the other songs. ez 3

Unfortunately I didn't love this as much as LZIV, I might give it another chance in the future but some choices were a bit too weird for me.

I'll be honest, when Led Zeppelin writes a hit, it's an all time best song. But when they miss, the solos are becoming boring, the rest of the instruments anonymous, and worst of all, the vocal becomes unbearable. This album mixes those two in their most extremes. Whole Lotta Love is a masterpiece, 55 years later its being used in every other movie, I feel like. But the rest of the album, with slightly exceptions, is a mediocre slog. I felt really bad trying to sit through it all. Very disappointing and quite surprising. I used to be a big fan of Led Zeppelin, but somehow I closed my eyes (or ears) for many of those songs. Being more conscious about it now, all I can give is 5 for The hits, and 3 for the rest, which equals to 4. Still pretty high, but I don't have a heart to give it an average note.

Drum solos are a terrible waste of time. Fave tracks: Thank You, Ramble On 3.1/5

okay, i don’t like led zep. and in the past i would have thought this would be a 2. but … didnt feel terrible today. a mid 3.

Finally completed the quad

The beat and mix sounds great.

p176. 1969. 3 stars. Adequate Brit blues/folk/rock blend, a couple of standout tracks and a lot of overly long filler. Bonus point for 'fessing up to losing his girl to Gollum.

I liked it a lot more than I thought I was going to! Ramble on and Living Loving Maid were my favorites!

ya it’s good. the lyrics are what you would hear in any blues song. they work for the music i guess but they don’t do much for me. ofc you listen to this album for the shredding arrangements. it’s classic rock. but it doesn’t do a lot for me.

zeppelin stole a lot of music

Surprising blend of classic rock and R&B. One of the most musically varied Led Zepplin albums I've heard. Seems to be very exploratory, the songs don't entirely fit a cohesive album style or theme. It's a patchwork, but mostly enjoyable as a whole.

Not my favorite music but I gave it a brief listen.

Appreciate the guitar playing and history of classic rock. But not my everyday listen playlist. Be a good gym workout album.

I do appreciate Led Zep and some of their songs are absolute classics, the band themselves are supremely talented. I can just never really get into them, I think it bores me, maybe I really need to be in the mood, who knows.

I understand why these are classics. Nothing really jumped out at me on this listen.

Weder Fleisch noch Fisch dieser Blues Rock.

earlier Led Zeppelin>over popularized later Zeppelin

Greatest performing band in rock and roll history - by far. Greatest because their technical abilities were considerable, but didn't overshadow the music that they made together; because they listened to one another and played like a band made up of people who's only goal was to sound great together. You can pick apart their individual talents all you like and find individuals better at the component instruments. But show me any four people in the world of rock and roll who could create a more mind-blowing sonic experience together. That said, they were just beginning to realize their own sound with this album. It's like the cocoon is starting to split open but the butterfly is only starting to emerge. True brilliance was still two albums away.

Music was so much longer in the 60s.

good not great lmao

Decent, but not spectacular all the way through

Legendary but kinda drags

Objectively brilliant but I didn’t want to listen much. I grew up with this as a bit of a backdrop and always knew it was important music but it never entertained me.

Track 2 good Track 3 sucks Ramble on - good Thank You - Good Heartbreaker- okay Moby dick - bongos for a long time. Waste of everyone's time

It’s good but I’m not that big on this kind of rock

Some pretty iconic tunes but not my favorite Led Zeppelin.

It's nice, but I really don't see anything special in this band

Damn I only had Led Zep IV a couple days and now I get another one. Also heard this before but not enough to remember anything except obviously 'Whole Lotta Love', which is a banger. I actually like this quite a bit more than IV, there's a lot more raw energy here and they also get a little weird with it which I enjoy (i'm thinking the bridge on 'Whole Lotta Love' and all the drums on 'Moby Dick'). That stuff works here whereas on IV it felt like the weirder stuff really dragged it down. Still not blowing my mind like Led Zep does for a lot of people, but I did enjoy this one.

Moby Dick was erg vreemd.

Whole Lotta Love/Living Loving Maid/Ramble On are the standouts and tied for my favorite. Guitar solo on Heartbreaker was incredible. Amazing instrumentals and singing throughout.

This is one of Led Zeppelin’s best releases but it just goes to show how overrated they are in the best band conversation

Never really been a fan of Zeppelin, but this was listenable.

Still sounds good. Too bad they stole so much from other bands.

Bland by todays standards. Kinda the same.song over and over. I know why it's s classic but I was bored.

It’s good, and musically proficient but for me not all that memorable in any of the individual songs.

I know the riff to Whole Lotta Love, obviously, but I can’t say I’ve ever heard the whole song. I was fearing the worst when it came to that self indulgent midsection of the song but the rest of the album was pretty good…

A bit overhyped but you can see why the singer is doing what he does now.

I think it's good music, I just don't like it that much.

The Lemon Song is fun. Thank You is lovely. I think the Moby Dick drum solo is too long.

Good album, would listen again passively in the background. Definitely before its time.

It's a good 70's rock album. Very representative of the times. Needs to be listened to loud in good company. Would be a good record, not a great office listen, ha. Would be 4 stars with an iconic hit.

Classic but not incredible

Thought it wound be better. Clearly iconic in its day though

Well I liked and enjoyed that more than I thought I would. Look we have all heard Led Zeppelin thousands of times forever. I'm not saying I never need to hear them again, but I'm not not saying that either. I know they rock. Clearly they rock. I just get so tired of them. But for whatever reason this hit right today and I really enjoyed it.

LZ I, LZ IV and Physical Graffiti were sooo good. especially IV and PhG but this album is kinda boring? It has standout tracks but... it's still not that great...
