The hits are still bangers, but all-in-all more subdued than I remember. It did strike up nostalgia. I remember seeing them at Lollapalooza 2010 with my girlfriend (now wife). Great memories. Glad to revisit for those memories.

This was my first favorite Beatles album. It comes out of the gate with a bang - SPLHCB is such a shot to the veins. Great album top to bottom. Love it.

There were some great moments — the intro and following track most notably. Some felt a bit too theatrical for my taste, but a good album overall. 3 stars.

Great album. I prefer the live versions on Stop Making Sense and The Name of This Band…, but this is stacked with hits.

As I have aged, this one hasn’t aged quite as well with me. I would’ve 5-starred it in my late teens/early 20s. 3 now.

Forgot how good Lynyrd Skynyrd is. This album kicks ass.

This album is so forgettable. The best song is Heaven and that owes all the credit to David Byrne and The TH because it’s a banger no matter who sings it. I listened to this less than 24 hrs ago and all but that song is wiped from my memory MIB style. Could’ve saved 45 min of my life by never hearing this one.

Really surprised by this one. I heard some Destroyer and Hamilton Leithauser in it, so wonder if they were influenced by them. Very pleasantly surprised as I had never heard of the band before. 4 to 4 1/2.

A few standouts - Somebody to Love, Embryonic Journey, White Rabbit. The rest was good but not too memorable. 3 1/2 rounded up for how good of a song White Rabbit is.

This one reminded me of early college days watching The O.C. Turns out that the band was on an episode playing 3 songs. It really conjured up some nostalgia.

Dinosaur Jr fucking ripped then and still fucking rips today. Would take this a thousand times over most of the other BS that shows up on this list.

Wasn’t super excited when I saw it pop up, but I enjoyed it more than anticipated. Joni can write and this album was an easier listen than some others of hers I have listened to.

I fucking loved this. It’s so 80’s and so Leonard Cohen. It’s dark, jazzy, and just a cool ass album. Obviously well- written, the production is slick as hell and sets a tone that scratches the right itch.

Still rips. I remember seeing the Even Flow video on MTV buzzbin and buying the album as a kid.

Aged like a fine wine.

I did not enjoy this. Not an offensive listen, but not my bag. None of it hit for me and it felt like it was an 8 hour album. 1 star.

Was expecting to not like this one going in, but what a pleasant surprise. The vibe was right. It probably didn’t hurt that I had just suffered through a 1 star the day before.

Don’t hate it; don’t love it. Probably won’t ever listen to it again. 2 stars.

I love Can. This was more subdued than the other material I have heard. I prefer the louder stuff where they are just flat out rocking.

Damn Chris Cornell has the juice. Rocking 90s grunge. I will say the album is a bit bloated at 70 minutes, but 4 stars nonetheless.

Such a fun, rocking, soulful album. Guitar work is incredible, as to be expected. Rhythm section on point. Vocals amped up when needed and delicate at appropriate times. Listened to it twice and will be back to revisit. Jimi was the man. 5 stars.

Honestly, Sonic Youth has always been a blind spot for me. A band that I feel as though I should be into, but I’ve never been able to get there. Fast forward to today and this album hit for me more than others I have tried. Not sure how to explain it. Not sure but 3.5 stars rounded up because Teen Age Riot is a banger.

I get the importance of Joni Mitchell in music history - I know she’s an important singer/songwriter. However, she just doesn’t line up with my tastes. Her voice is not my thing. Her harmony is not my thing. Her instrumentation is not my thing. Her phrasing is not my thing. It kinda pains me to say it out loud, but it’s true. 2 stars for her impact on the medium.

So, obviously a great album but I thought I’d share a personal story of Van Morrison. In 2008, I worked at a hotel in Austin. Van was scheduled to check in and stay for a few nights to play 2 shows. I’m working the front desk and a TALL woman with an Adams Apple bigger than a bullfrog comes to check into his room. Not saying she was trans but not saying she wasn’t. One thing is for sure — she wasn’t on the reservation so I let her know that I could not check her into the room. She proceeded to call Van on her cell phone and handed the phone over to me. He proceeded to curse me up and down, but I stood my ground stating that she was not on the reservation and I was unable to confirm that he indeed was the guest on the reservation. She waited for someone to check in with the authority to do so and everyone went about their merry way. Fast forward a night or 2, the hotel had an employee appreciation party. We had let guests know, but Van was pissed at the noise. He proceeded to call to complain until he was able to speak to the general manager. The GM basically told him to go to another hotel if he wanted but the party wasn’t stopping until the scheduled end time. Van then played a show at the Austin Music Hall. I had heard that he was an asshole to the audience due to some cell phones. Van Morrison was married at the time to the former Miss Scotland or something. So, moral of the story is Van pretty much sucks as a human being, but has put out some absolute classics. 5 stars regardless of how horrible he is to the regular folk.

I listen to this and Live Drugs often. Great studio band. Great live band. Excited for their new one. Will continue to come back to this one. 4 1/2.

It feels like the mantra for this one was “All Gas No Breaks.” I’ve been enjoying the jazz entries of the list though this one didn’t hit quite like the others have.

This is the first album that I have listened to 3 times in one day and I am already looking forward to running it back again. I think I found my Zappa album because this one blew my mind. I mean, Willie the Pimp — are you kidding me?? This album kicks ass — all killer no filler. They were cooking in the studio on this one. Easy 5 stars from me. I’ll be spinning Hot Rats often.
