Reviews (page 10 of 14)
Don't have time for a full review of this, but it would be extremely biased anyway; I've probably listened to this album 100 times or more. Suffice to say, not perfect and not even their best, but "II" kicks ass.
NA
Fühlte mich wie mein eigener Vater
Gute Stereoeffekte und rockt gut 🫵🏻
Zeppelin can take fairly straightforward riffs and make them sound anthemic and insane. The meat on the guitar/bass tone just tears. I don't know how much of the production quality is original, but it's really well spread out. They do make some odd structural choices though, simpler is better in this case. Solid.
We had IV recently, this is good but not as good as that so gets a 4.
Classic.
Rock solid
Definitely had a lot of Zeppelin exposure by this lost and the rolling stone 500. Grown on me a lot over that time.
Ya lo escuche. Me gusta bastante Whole Lotta Love, Ramble On.
honestly suprising. a cusp 5. hard and funky. piercing
There are some good songs, but I'm not really impressed tbh
Didn't think this was my thing at first but started to get into at by the end of the first song. I can see why they are regarded as highly as they are in this genre.
Already one of my favorites. Hard to imagine what it would have been like to hear this in 1969. Highlights for me are What Is and What Should Never Be and Ramble On.
Contains some of their best riffs and most explosive popular songs.
Excellent
Good Their songs all sound the same.
mmhmm that's good shit
Good listening. Ironic that I listened to the band when I was in college and my children listened to it 20 years later. Led Zeppelin is timeless.
I could not have picked out a Led Zeppelin song before listening to this. I am now a fan. This was good.
I forgot how horny Led Zeppelin is. Great guitars though!
Incredible album, and this was the first time I listened to it in album format. I know a lot of people that would give it a five, but I'm giving it a solid, safe 4; possibly the most solid four so far.
Plays well as background music. Could listen to all day. None of the songs were stand out favorite songs for me but a very solid album!
4.1 - Very iconic, great songs, great voice. Some songs get a little messy
Pretty damn good
I put this on par with their debut with a little more blues and attitude in the mix. Overall solid, a couple great stands outs (first two tracks, Ramble on as one of my fav zeppelin tracks). A couple great deep cuts (Bring it on home is a great closer, moby dick is cool). Just more of zeppelin growing and becoming the classic band we now know today.
7.5/10
I have to give this 4 stars just because I know almost every Zeppelin album will be on this list. 4 stars because as great as it is it's pretty low on my normal rotation.10/10 album. 8/10 Zeppelin album
Obviously an important and influential album. My favorite here is Heartbreaker for sure. On a full album listen through, however, can't help but feel like it all blends together. Same general lyrics in all the songs, but ultimately not my favorite in a full listen.
Whole lotta jawnnn
Not a ton to say. Led Zeppelin II is a classic. With only 9 tracks there isn't a lot of filler (outside of "Moby Dick"). You can definitely feel more of the blues influence on this album than some of their others. Badass guitar riffs permeate throughout the album, complimented by Robert Plant's vocals. The only real weak aspect of the album for me would be the lyrics. Standout tracks, "The Lemon Song", "Thank You", "What Is and What Should Never Be".
It had been years since I had listened to the album and I forgot how good a blues band they were.
Great Riffs, eh Vocals. Overall pretty good. Maybe 3.5 as an album
An undeniable classic. I haven’t listened to the full album in years so it was nice to be reminded of songs that get less airtime on streaming services.
Great albeit over played hard rock. Could do without the drum solo tho.
Some absolutely stand out tracks, including Ramble On, one of my favourite Led Zeppelin tracks. Some tracks can drag and become forgetful however.
Highlights: Heartbreaker, Whole Lotta Love, Ramble On Leave Em's: What Is and What Should Never Be, Moby Dick Overall Thoughts: This album suffers from the competition it faces amongst the rest of Led Zeppelin's discography. They sound like they are still coming into the iconic sound that they master in their following albums. Some of that experimentation is executed really well in songs like Heartbreaker where in songs like Whole Lotta Love, I think they could have come up with something even more special. I think in my mind the hits on this album don't stack up with some of their others. It is still a very good album and I will listen again but I don't feel like I can justify the five star rating. Score Breakdown: 3.778 & 4 -> 3.889
Fede sange. Meget mærkelige opbygninger på sange; men skal lige være forberedt på en godt solo ud af det blå
Something I often forget, but is amplified when running thru albums on this 1001 list is: These Zep albums are fucking OLD. I've reviewed albums from the 60s and definitely go a hell of a lot easier on them within the context of like "Yeah, this was from the 60s - it was probably crazy back then even if it isn't now". However this LZ from 69' - like what!? Absolutely rips now and sure as shit must have been a trip back then. Whole Lotta Love starts the whole thing with insane dive bombing riffs and Plant cumming. What an intro. The album continues with some well paced songs. Bonhams drumming is so tasteful. It's also so forward in the mix on these songs, everyone must have known we just gotta get this guy to the forefront. Even in the more acoustic driven songs Bonhams drums come crashing through. I love it. The transition from Thank You to Heartbreaker is nuts. Just a thoughtful quiet ending on Thank You runs headfirst into this massive now legendary riff on Heartbreaker. Awesome. Ramble On rips. The fact that the LotR movies came out much later and became such a huge cultural hit long after this song was released posthumously makes this song even more of a banger. How cool. Moby Dick is wild. 31 million listens on Spotify of people listening basically to a drum solo. What a legend. My only gripe with this album is do I give it a 4 or a 5. It's not my favourite LZ album. But it's so much better than most of what I've heard from this decade, it's hard not to give it a 5. It's a true 4.5. I think I'm going to give it a 4 this go around. I expect to have LZ in my top list though. So - see you again soon boys!
The hits HIT. This thing’s incredible for any fan of classic rock. I’m not a huge fan of the spacier tracks, but you can’t deny this thing has some all-timers.
A couple tracks were a bit odd but otherwise awesome listening.
An absolute classic. I don't think this is peak zeppelin but a great listen.
Brilliance
Familiar with a few songs on it. Sounded as expected, good ol classic rock
Great of course but I’m more of an I and V guy than an II and III.
Have listened, did listen, and will again listen.
Led Zeppelin seem to have been one of the few rock bands of the era that built off the Blues without stooping to affectation. Some of their best tracks are on here, but there are still too many yawn-inducers.
Feels like a great 4.5/5 album. The music is great, drums, guitar, bass are all good. Singing is good/fine. But the singing is a little annoying and there's some weird shit happening here and there, which is fine and good, but keeps it that one step below the 5/5 type album. I just have a few too many objections to a few too many things.
Like most people when seeing this list, I was shocked this was here instead of Led Zeppelin IV but this is still a classic album. I have heard this so many times, but obviously gave this a fresh listen for this review. I have so many albums I really need to review, so many classics, it's hard to find the balance between new and old albums. I love the production quality of this album, there is so many little elements that you need to pay attention to. There is so much I love about this album, and so much that will make me want to come back to it, but then I think about all the other music I would prefer to listen to instead. Nothing wrong with this album, just won't be high in my playing priorities. Standouts: Whole Lotta Love, The Lemon Song, Heartbreaker, Ramble On
Experimental sounds. Very intriguing. Hardly any skips. Classic. Smooth transition between songs. Great intro perfect outro
Prachtig album, paar dikke knallers zoals Whole Lotta Love en Ramble On. Moby Dick is wel een koortsdroom hahaha. Heartbreaker is btw ook een knaller.
Ik moet het toch 4 sterren geven. Het is té origineel
i could give this a 5 but i sometimes it's just like. No. i shan't. anyway my favorite off this one is ramble on. i am into shit like that
Elite bass lines throughout, especially on the lemon song and ramble on Drums are amazing as well Thank you, moby dick, ramble on, and whole lotta love are highlights
Wish I could have seen them live.
Niet af kunnen luisteren, ik snap wel dat die gast een legend is.
eerste nummer start de maandag lekker!!
Glaring omission in my classic rock upbringing (parents were more hair metal/glam rock than blues) that I am thoroughly enjoying experiencing now. Love the heavy rhythm section, vocals, and extended instrumental sections. Production is kinda messy, even on remastered, but still lively and fun.
I really like this band, I do. I LOVE John Bonham's drumming. Everything drips with alchemy.
Classic rock. A Whole Lotta Love is of course the stand out track, but the rest of the album stacks up pretty well in support
solid album. it is fun to listen straight through it and see how it flows. Lots of different styles, but they all sort of molded together.
That zeppelin's not made of led, it's made of rock n' roll!
Haven't heard The Lemon Song before and it really stands out. Blues influences are very strong. Not much else to say since most songs I've heard before. All songs are pretty good, though. Favorite Song: Ramble On. Headphones/Stereo speakers are a MUST
led zepplin twoooooooo even more led then the first one
Good
How heavy can you get before actually being heavy metal? It's easy to see why Led Zeppelin are so celebrated and influential. The music really does stand out among many of their contemporaries. My possibly controversial take is that this isn't their best album. But that's by no means an insult. I've got four more albums by this band to explore in this challenge, including some I don't know very well. I'm definitely looking forward to them.
Great Album.
Excellent album. Overly indulgent in solos and fuckery, and some songs go round a good few times more than they should, but it's approached with such earnest and genuineness that it comes off as quite charming. Just a jam in a 12" sleeve 8.0/10
7.9
I have a whole lotta love for this album, classic rock mixed with some great experimentation. one of those late 60s albums that ushered in the 70s. Its a shame about the band's questionable history with children, and possibly fish? A really solid album regardless, could be their best if IV didn't feature stairway to heaven. Why they decided they were Elvis for the last 10 seconds of this album I may never understand
Classic zeppelin album. Loved it
4.5
Loved it as a youth. Still love it. Still find Moby Dick a bit tiresome. Generally rifftastic. 4
Classic, not much more to say
A little bit less than their debut, but still a great record. I'm definitely more fond of the bluesier Zeppelin than their later work.
Riffs, riffs and more riffs. I really enjoyed the variety of moods and styles on this album, but it did occasionally veer into the self indulgent. The vocals as a companion piece to the instrumentation is great until it’s not - some songs I feel I would have preferred as instrumental.
needs two moby dicks
I really like the instrumental parts
Starts off with songs containing a combination of weirdness with some good tunes, then the final songs are absolute bangers. Unusual that the album gets better towards the end rather than the opposite. Only realise it’s actually very decent a listen after listening.
Good continuation of the evolution of their expansion of rock.
Just an amazing classic rock album, Whole Lotta Love and Ramble On are some of the best rock songs you will ever here. Amazing instrumentals throughout the entire experience including on Heartbreaker and Thank You. I could listen to the 3 minute drum solo over and over. Some songs are a little forgettable so that's why it's a 8/10.
Just a great rock album.
Shake for me, girl I wanna be your backdoor man
Bangeeer sådan 4,5 tho
Love Led Zeppelin and had never listed to this entire album before. Lots of great songs I already knew Favorite songs: What Is and What Never Should Be, Thank You, Heartbreaker, Living Loving Maid, Ramble On
It's Led Zeppelin II - it's a classic. The guitar is consistently impressive. Plant's voice is iconic. It fucking rocks.
Still rips. a couple snoozers, but a lot of heavy hitters.
It’s Led Zeppelin, so it's great. Probably their second or third best album.
Stand out songs: - Whole Lotta Love: Yeah yeah, I'm of the age where this was the Top of the Pops theme, whatever
Uh. C’est un classique.
Stone cold classic! This was my first time listening to the album in a nice pair of headphones. What an experience!
Nothing that stood out in a good way in this album.
Thank you is so good and you always forget it. Don't forget it when you rate.
Classic Rock Blues Rock
John Paul Jones bass playing is exceptional throughout and Jimmy Page’s guitar tone is one of a kind. I’d forgotten how good the middle portion of Bring It on Home is. That said to me this doesn’t reach the level of songwriting of III, IV or Houses of the Holy
Have listened the record many times. Always a solid option.
Fuckin’ Zeppelin, d’you know what I mean?
great
That drum solo sucked. 3.5/5
Gots it on vinyl. One of their better albums
This one rocks. But we all knew that. Pretty much hits across the board, always been a huge fan of this album. Don't know that it's my favourite from Zeppelin, but it's up there, maybe in my top 3.
Really good album. Of course I've heard it before, but it was nice to revisit. 4/5
Some days, I could easily swing to call this the best hard rock album ever. Maybe not today, but damn, the solo in “Heartbreaker” still hits. A-
If you can set aside what we know about the band members now this is a very good album, but not quite up there with Houses of the Holy or IV
25.08.23 - great album, listened to it on the way to work. Such good whisky drinking rock n roll. Love ramble on.
Glemte litt å følga med, men da skal få pluss for theremin
I'm over 100 albums in and I've discovered a lot of great music during this challenge for which I'm grateful. So when I got a Led Zeppelin album I was excited to get something I know quite well and love since I've been a teenager. So you can imagine my shock when after my first listen I found myself not actually liking this album that much. I think it might be related to my overall dislike for all the things rock and roll (I absolutely hated Aerosmith or Jerry Lee Lewis recently). Maybe it's the overexposure to that genre? I mean I've recently discovered so much fascinating genres that this sounds just very basic and uninteresting. There are other factors that get on my nerves here, such as the theft of black music without bothering to credit the authors, the sexual innuendos that go really bad with all the allegations regarding Page (the orgasm part on Whole Lotta Love is just.. tiring). It's still a banger, I love the riffs and the solos, and the rhythm section rocks (ironically, I think Plant is the weakest link here, his screaming gets tiring after a while). I found some new things I didn't pay attention to before (What is and what should never be) and Ramble On is my new favorite. And you have to appreciate the overall influence this thing made on rock music. Oh, one last thing - Moby Dick fucking sucks. And say it as a drummer. It just feels like showing off completely out of the context of the rest of the music, which is already bad. But then the solo just sucks you know? Like, is that really the best you can do? 3.5/5, rounded up to 4 due to all the influence.
high 3 / low 4.
Some good tunes on this. Very rocky, forgot how good they were
This is one of my least favorite Zeppelin albums but it's still quite good.
It's not metal, but certainly at the root of it. Not a fan of the solos eg Moby Dick drumming. Seems to have led to the beginning of the 1970s -80's over indulgence by the big rock gods. But I'll forgive them as they probably started it. However being one of the cornerstones of modern rock music it is groundbreaking stuff. Whole Lotta Love, The Lemon Song and Ramble On being the highlights. A low 4
I think that this album slaps hard. Tons of hits and honestly I never noticed the blues influence on Led Zeppelin until I listened to this album this time around. But it’s not my favorite project of theirs so I am going to give it a 4. I just feel like other albums deserve to be ranked higher. Standout track: Heartbreaker
Classic album with classic tunes. Led Zeppelin have some of the best hard rocking riffs with Whole Lotta Love and Heartbreaker (Heartbreaker is the song that introduced me to Led Zeppelin). They even experiment with mixing blues rock with noise absurdity with Whole Lotta Love and What Is and What Should Never be. I don't think as a whole that Led Zeppelin 1 is a better album with better song structures, but this album probably has more catchy riffs scattered throughout the album. Favorite song: Heartbreaker Least favorite: The Lemon Song
Classic
Yeah... This one goes hard... It's not fully hardcore, but that's what I like about it. It's balanced, precised and even a bit toned down.
Really wasn’t expecting to like this as much as I did. I’m officially a Led Zeppelin fan
John Bonham took the limitless pill before the recording of Moby Dick. Absolutely absurd.
Getting today's album had me thinking that I never really listened to Led Zeppelin II that much and was curious what I've missed out on. Honestly, I was a bit disappointed. Sure "Ramble on", "Heartbreaker" and "Whole Lotta love" are great but the rest was just not as good. Maybe it's after reading about Plant's creepiness that something just doesn't sit right with me. Still, drumming is not something that I usually pay attention to but here it's amazing how Bonham's drumming follows Page's guitar. The guitar and Drums meld beautifully together and play off one another. Don't get me wrong, it is a very good album but it doesn't achieve the greatness of I and IV that I was hoping for.
I should have given the first a five star, but this one wasn’t as good as the first - I’d say right on the border. Maybe I will regret this one too?
This album wins me over every time. I get an urge to drive fast and break things. I think it’s brilliant. Amazing guitar songs. 4/5
Great classic rock album! Holds up very very well. A wonderful way to end a week on the generator.
Partly heard before Saved 6/9 Top track: Whole Lotta Love
It's Zeppelin, the live performance is the big deal, the music isn't bad but isn't revolutionary.
This was pretty Dad rocky, and at first I thought it was repetitive, but the instrumentals and musicianship are insane! (And it's crazy they got away with these lyrics in the late 60s). The best track is The Lemon Song, but What is and What Never Should Be, Thank You, and Ramble On were all also pretty good.
I can’t believe this was recorded in the sixties. It has stood the test of time. Whole Lotta Love is a gem. 4.2/5
4.0
Like an elderly aunt who smells slightly of stale wee and has bristly whiskers, I have avoided listening to Led Zeppelin in large doses. I tolerate small quantities. Although I know some of their tunes are amazing. Anyone who grew up watching Top of the Pops will have Whole Lotta Love forever ingrained in their musical psyche. I really wasn’t sure if I’d tolerate a whole album. But I surprised myself and found myself actively engaged. There seem to be a whole lotta instrumental solos but that was okay; the vocals are my least favourite elements of this. I appreciated the melodies even if some seemed overly earnest and just a whole lotta overkill. Happy to revisit this elderly aunt with a peg on my nose and some tweezers.
Hot damn 41 minutes and 25 seconds of pure delight.
Hver gang jeg hører Led Zeppelin digger jeg det. Denne plata hadde noen heftige, bla whole lotta love, men også noen halvtørre låter
Крутой и дерзкий альбом. Достаточно тяжелый. Ни одного скипа, все песни зашли, но лучшие - «What is and what should never be”, “Whole lotta love”, “Thank you”. В целом, альбом заслуживает оценки 9-10, понравилось.
Me gusta
Used to be my favourite album but I do now realize the blues-iness doesent appeal to me as much anymore. But that doesent hold it back from still being a great album with amazing riffs and a palpable energy.
Typisch, goed Led Zeppelin album. leukste nummer: Whole Lotta Love Het nummer "Ramble On" werd geïnspireerd door Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings. De lyrics verwijzen letterlijk naar Mordor, Gollum en de Evil One.
It's kind of amazing just how much the tracks vary from each other. Listening straight through the album start to finish is probably not the best way to consume this, each track could easily stand on its own.
Feels like they just discovered how to pan tracks.
This was a strong album, albeit shorter than I would have liked. Whole Lotta Love holds up for sure, and I knew nothing about Ramble On or Moby Dick, but really ended up enjoying them a lot. Much more enjoyable vocals than I expected too, and the bass lines laid down are groovy as hell. Enjoyed this.
By far the weakest of their first six album imo, which is still pretty decent, more showing the strength of the other albums in potentially one of the best golden ages of any band. Ramble On and Thank You drag this album just about into 4* territory
whole lotta love
I had only heard a few led zeppelin tracks before I went into this album. From what I’d heard, I was very impressed so I went in with good expectations, this project exceeded those expectations taking me through instrumental excellence. John paul Jones’ performance on bass stood out to me in particular. Of course everyone played their part amazingly, topped off with plants incredible vocals to create a great project, I will definitely be revisiting this album
Önnur gömul uppáhaldsplata, en heilt á litið ekki eins góð og IV og I. Moby Dick er ekki málið, og Living loving maid er ekkert spes. Bring it on home er líka mun slappari endir en When the levee breaks. Flott og skemmtilegt samt.
Este sí estuvo bueno, eh.
Again I think Page is the star of the show. Bonham is a great drummer, but I find his solos get a tad tedious. Yes, Plant has a great voice but there are only so many baby baby baby’s I can listen to. Great rock blues record though.
Good in the way that all Led Zeppelin albums are good.
It’s hard to rate something like this as have heard most of these songs for decades. I like it but not totally convinced.
Tiene dos canciones que me gustan mucho (Inmigrant Song, Tangerine), pero otras no.
Riff-driven hard rock with strong blues influence. Somewhere between 3 and 4, but 3 is just too low.
HL: "Whole Lotta Love", "Thank You", "Heartbreaker/Living Loving Maid" (because I have a hard time separating them), "Bring It On Home" It was bold and brash to put the moaning breakdown of "Whole Lotta Love" so early into the record; at least III had the decency to save the avant-garde elements for the *2nd* track "Thank You" has been one of my favourite Zep songs for a while; in theory I love "Ramble On" but I've heard it so goddamn much (that and "D'yer Maker") that I'm kinda numb to it. "BUT GOLLUM- AND THE EVIL ONE- CREPT UP AND SLIPPED AWAY WITH HER, HER, HER" might be best Zep lyric tho April 14, 2023
nice zeppelin
Didn't like it so much on first listen but after a second it really grew on me
They’re best album
Cuh-lassics I appreciate
Some amazing parts with sprinkled in meh
Have given every single led zep album 4 and this one continues.. seriously consistent and always enjoyable tunes.
Yep... Its led zeppelin alright, and a pretty good one too.
The best thing about Led Zeppelin's music is that it's always melodic (and singable) despite its heaviness. That means the tracks are also varied; they have peaks and valleys and never feel one-note. Plus, there great rock songs so what else is there to say? Standouts are Whole Lotta Love, The Lemon Song, and Heartbreaker.
Very good. Imagine hearing this when it first came out. Especially Whole Lotta Love. Not a big fan of Moby Dick but 8 out of 9 songs are amazing.
This is a 5-star record until the last two tracks, and I realize I need to be pickier with my 5’s. The highs on this record are the best in LZ’s whole discography, namely the guitar work on Whole Lotta Love, Plant’s vocals on What is and What Should Never Be, and Ramble On (the best bass line written by someone not named Paul McCartney).
They kind of sound like they’re imitating Greta Van Fleet. That being said, Jimmy Page is in a class all his own, especially on Heartbreaker. Wasn’t a huge fan of some of the slower songs. Standouts were Whole Lotta Love, Heartbreaker and Ramble On.
Shredded
Very good
3.5
i liked this one a lot more than 4 tbh. the drum solo in moby dick is of course one of the most iconic drum parts ever. overall, very impressive and catchy album
Listened to on 2/16/23 4/5 Favorite song: Thank You Whole lotta love was chaos with the random noises but I really enjoyed the rest of the album
Impresionante "Whole Lotta Love" y "Ramble On" en un tono más acústico. Y para terminar por todo lo alto "Bring it on home". Impresionante estar haciendo esta música ya en 1969.
listened to again it's just so good
Just another casual banger of an album from Led Zeppelin. I’d rank it at fourth of the four albums I’ve had from them so far but it’s still so good. The guitar riffs just stick with you and it’s a bit more experimental than the others it seems. 8/10
I’m not into classic rock really, so grand guitar riffs and solos don’t make my heart go faster. But this album is an absolute classic and I love almost every track.
I’m not big on the style of singing that was popular with rock bands of this era, but the music on this album is undeniably excellent. Really enjoyed my listen!
Vraiment pas mauvais, plusieurs gros hits dessus. Les chansons que je ne connaissais pas s'écoutaient quand même bien. Probablement le meilleur après IV que j'ai entendu à date.
4/5 Pretty good, not a huge fan of classic rock. Good with mushrooms.
Never listened to this album in its entirety, but heard most of the songs of it for sure. Aside from the big hitters that we know and love, the only one I liked was Bring It On Home. Also dang when you actually listen to the lyrics it’s uhh.. something else eh? Not the best Led Zeppelin album by far
A great album which I knew before, but did not appreciate some of the more deep cut songs, like Bring It On Home
Overall killer but got some songs/sections I really don't like like.
Listened Before? Y This is an all-time classic. It's actually not my favorite but I still appreciate it. It's literally back-to-back bangers and hits. One of the most famous rock and roll albums of all time. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: Ramble On
Since I usually give five stars to any album on the top albums from global statistics of the site, this one surprised me. Not because it's a bad album, of course, it is excellent, but I liked much more of the "Physical Graffiti" I received almost a year ago on the site. So this one SHOULD be better, and it's not. Reading the Wikipedia page, it's clear its historical role in the rock industry and even being part of the metal "creation," but in the end, my expectations when I received it were too high, maybe impossibly high.
Clarity of purpose and pure audio quality. Layering. Back-masking. Modulating stereo. Hammer of The Gods, indeed. Psychedelia without being annoying. Timeless: this album does not betray the time in history when it was recorded (1969). But overly misogynistic in hindsight. "Shake for me girl; I want to be your backdoor man..."
oui
Pretty great rock album.
This was the first album I ever bought on CD. This was during a time when I was buying things to find out what they sounded like. I knew the larger Zeppelin IV hits, but I knew nothing about this one. And I loved it. Played it constantly. Always tuned out during The Lemon Song and Moby Dick (maybe there's a connection there?). Anyway, it's Zeppelin. The songs are good. What are you gonna do?
Shit just works for me. I’ve never owned this album and never needed to; is there a song here that hasn’t been played on classic rock radio? Regardless, to actually sit down and listen to this all at once was just a treat. Classic for a reason.
It’s not bad at all. My only main gripe with this album is that some of the songs feel kinda long even when they aren’t. They have a unique sound that differentiates them from other rock albums, and it’s difficult to not headbang along with the music, though this might just be mainly due to the rock genre. The guitars are just so sick to listen to, and that’s what really makes the whole album excellent. Everything just flows really well and creates a sick mood and vibe. Favorite track: Heartbreaker
Of the four Led Zeppelins, I think this one may be the weakest. To me, there are a lot of songs that are pretty good, but are not the pinnacle of what Led Zeppelin had going on. Obviously, the radio classics are certified classics and amazing songs, but I think this may be the weakest of the anthology. Highlights: 1, 5, 6, and 7.
Maybe the 4th or 5th best Zeppelin album but still better than some of the nonsense on this list
Tää on sarjassamme ”natiaisena opittuja”. 4/5
Good hard rock album that ultimately though falls short of a 5 star rating and to living up to it's hype due to there being too little stand-out songs that drive the album and the lack of personal connection the songs, especially the guitar solos, were able to generate
3.5/5
Complicated relationship with this one. Well, not that complicated, it's just not my favourite of theirs and I struggle slightly with the concept that this is an all time flawless album. This is kind of more, the Led Zep "that's an impressive fret-wank (or equivalent) album". I appreciate Whole Lotta Love rather than love it, fun effects and stuff but too stop start ultimately. It's not high on my favourite led zep songs. Same goes for the Lemon Song. That said, there really isn't a song here that's less than very good. Ramble on and Heartbreaker are fantastic, they just don't fuck around (well, Ok, they do a little bit). Sounds like I only want straight ahead rockers from Led Zep which is not true at all, since I've been loving you on 3, the song remains the same, love all that shit. I also love their folksy shit, which again is more evident from 3 onwards. I love Led Zep 3 so much more, I like Houses of the Holy more, and Led Zep 4 is better than this. Based on gut feeling and memory, we'll see how I feel when they all come up, as I'm sure they will.
i loooov it
Pretty great
Good
This is a classic but has never been my favorite Zep album.
A great listen to start the day ! Loved it so 4*
Forceful, but not belligerent hard rock with a few sweet tunes to boot. At times grating due to Robert Plant ad libbing too damn much but, thankfully, everyone else is there to help ignore him when he does. Jimmy is at his sloppy, fantastic best (before heroin made it worse), Bonham could knock over buildings with the weight of his groove, and John Paul Jones is the one keeping everything together and nailing it every time. Basic parts put together well, and played effectively. It would have been something to experience when it first came out, as opposed to living in the world after it exists and too many people rehashing and treading on its desiccated remains. Favorite track is “What is and What Should Never Be”. Gotta love a track about LotR that isn’t being obvious about it.
I think it says a lot that I’ve heard all these songs more times than I can count, even though I don’t think I’ve ever listened to this record from front to back before now. The whole record gets radio play. A fairly radical white british take on black american blues, undeniably fundamental rock record. With this played-out classic, I gotta ask: is it really necessary to hear before you die? Every rock band for half a century has emulated it. Will it even resonate as innovative theft at all if you are just now hearing it for the first time? The Lemon Song is still ridiculous to me. What part of Lord of The Rings is this? Livin, lovin… its just a walrus. Ruined by car commercial. Moby Dick and Bring It On Home might be my favs at this time, still jam. The drums are fantastic throughout the record. Some of the vocals on the record are my least fav part. Obviously a 5 star record in rock circles, highly influential, but some of the thrill is lost on me from overexposure I guess.
Really liked this one.
I've got a whole lotta love for the Zep, but I think my fave from this album is Heartbreaker.
Yep, solid stuff. I don't like it as much as I and IV, but more, I think, than III. Actually I maybe need to re-listen to III, as I only gave it 3 stars, but that was right back at the start of this project when I was only listening to things once on average - I might have just been in a mood that day? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Fave track - well, "Whole Lotta Love" is embedded pretty firmly in my childhood due to Top of the Pops, and then anyone that wanted to spoof TotP. "Thank You" is pretty darn awesome too...
Can’t knock a classic
Hard rock, lidt psyk, flere bangers, bare bundsolidt
T3B 1. Whole Lotta Love 2. Ramble On 3. Heartbreaker I mean, it’s Led. It’s a 4 or 5. Nothing else. Led II is a solid 4.
Great album, nuff said.
Ace.
I always love myself some early Led Zeppelin Whole Lotta Love, Moby Duck, and Ramble on are top tier in my opinion
i love led zeppelin. they're a really talented group of individuals, and come together as a unit very well. a good portion of these songs could and should be considered classics. BUT!!!! for everyone ounce of grief we give elvis for stealing rock and roll from Black people, we need to give led zeppelin the same grief. behind its guitar solos and slightly unsettling moans, whole lotta love is just willie dixon's "you need love," adapted from a muddy waters recording. now, due credit is given in the year 2022, but this album came out in 1969. do you think white people cared that they stole this track? absolutely not. so, as a result, they became idyllic rock gods because of their tasty licks and shredding voices and pounding drums (also john paul jones was there too) here's a list of songs on this album that were either ripped off from Black artists entirely or "inspired by" Black songwriters who were given a paltry writer's credit: whole lotta love the lemon song moby dick bring it on home that's 4 out of 9 songs. i dunno. this is an album that was truly legendary to me as a kid. my dad got the led out all the time, and i was always happy to hear it. these songs are great, they're just not theirs, and there's a hurtful history behind the music on a lot of these tracks, and the tracks that make led zeppelin the iconoclasts that they are. when they write their own music, they write about hobbits and shit, because they're actually nerds. if i were to look at it from a general talent lens, this album is insane. we all know that. led zeppelin is a group full of crazy talents, and they popularized the concept of blues rock for a white audience of dudes with really shitty haircuts, like my dad and his friends in akron, ohio. i owe a lot to bands like led zeppelin, because it made my dad who he is and in turn shaped me and my taste. there's a bittersweetness to this record, but you can't deny that it's damn good. also it's pretty funny that robert plant sings from a cuck's perspective on heartbreaker
LP
Lots of great songs by a great band.
86/100: First Led Zeppelin album of the project! Yay! Looks like the album generator is easing me into their works, thankfully. I’d hate to start with their best work, but none of their stuff is bad. Each and every Led Zeppelin album is an album that can be listened to over and over again, ad nauseam (but you’ll never get sick of it, so not really nauseam per se). This makes rating their albums exceedingly difficult, though. “Led Zeppelin IV,” for example, is a much better album than “Led Zeppelin II,” but when you’re discussing albums this good on a 1-100 scale, they’re both near the top of that scale, so it’s hard to really display the difference. Perhaps I should employ a logarithmic scale. Either way, this album is incredible. Like teaching a baby to swim by dropping them into a pool, this album mercilessly swings for the fences from the get go. “Whole Lotta Love” kicks things off by kicking you in the ass. This is followed by a much more laid back song, “What Is and What Should Never Be,” or so it seems. This song showcases one of my favorite aspects of Led Zeppelin. A “New Yorker” music critic once described Led Zeppelin’s sound as clash of velvet and energy. “What Is and What Should Never Be” is a velvet-y smooth song intermittently punched through by high octane energy. Or is it a high octane song intermittently pulling into velvet? I suppose both. It’s through this lens that I appreciate this album as a whole. The album itself proves the velvet/high-energy balance found within their songs to be a microcosm of the album as a whole. You have songs that are entirely velvet, like “Thank You,” songs that are an uncontrolled fire hydrant of diesel, like “Heartbreaker,” and then some songs that are both, like “What Is and What Should Never Be.” I feel like a whole section ought to be devoted to “Moby Dick.” John Bonham is the greatest drummer to ever live, and he absolutely kills this song, as he does every song on this and all their albums; however, this is one of those rare songs that is only good live. In fact, it stretches the definition of a “song” in that each live version was completely different than the last, and completely different than the studio version on this album. I love this song, but not because of how it sounds on this album. I love it for all of the versions that exist—for its fluidity, the spotlight it shines on the world’s greatest drummer, for its elusive freedom. Fantastic album, but not Led Zepellin’s best.
Vet hor!
Zeppelin stelt nooit teleur.
Pretty good
classic!
Awesome sound.
Blues and rock
Another good album from Led Zeppelin. A lot of songs that I have heard before. This is not as bluesy as Led Zeppelin III. The drum solo on Moby Dick did not need to be that long.
Great album. Love Zep
Musically amazing, but I can't stand Plants shrieky vocals. He sounds like he's in physical pain. I have to assume it's the pain of trying to keep up with amazing musicians.
Totally a good Album, a little to experimental in the end
One of their absolute best.
The longest I’ve sat on a record was for this right here. I wanted it to be the perfect album from one of the greatest bands of all time, but it’s not. The album varies in quality. Not every song is up to the standards set by the rest of the songs but to have an album that consistent would be nearly unattainable. This doesn’t mean the lows are low, it just means the highs are so high like holy fuuuuckkkkk😩😩😩. Every member of this band is so fucking good going back to listen to each individual member is such a rewarding task. Crazy melodic shredding with heavy blues influence and psychedelic overtones, Bonhams ridiculous drumming with his own solo track in the vein of rat salad, bass you can actually hear and have take the lead at times(going back some of the tracks it sounds like he’s soloing the entire time.) I can’t help but duck ride the musicianship in this band they’re so good. A gold standard for dad rock. Although imperfect this is a must listen no matter what because these guys have so many fun ideas and manage to all take the lead while working off each other perfect. Not listening to this would be a disservice, like you don’t already know a bunch of this shit lmaooo
I keep wanting to compare it to IV, which isn't fair because IV (or ZOSO or untitled or whatever we're officially calling it) is perfect from start to finish. This one opens with maybe Zep's greatest song ever, but then it meanders a bit. Do we really need that long drum solo on Moby Dick? We get it, Bonzo was an amazing drummer.
Ramble On & Bring It Home = Top Tier
fun, classic that is rock n roll. except for that middle earth shit, its bangin
Not the greatest Led Zeppelin but certainly not the worst. Pretty, pretty, pretty good.
Good but there wasn't anything that really stood out.
This is a quintessential Zepplin, full-throated and full of rage, sex and passion.
Such a classic
Classic
darkish bluesy psychedelic rock with some legendary tracks. somehow felt like the artists were messing with me during this one
Not quite as good as 1 or 4 but it's still a great one
Cool album. Guitar is really sick. Didn't really pay attention to lyrics, but sonically the album is dope. Fav songs are Whole Lotta Love, The Lemon Song, Heartbreaker (fav one), and Living Loving Maid.
Classic, I think I like III and IV more though.
The band has less of their incisive power on II than they do at their best, but the capital-S Sound on display is an instant attractor. There's musical breadth if not the amount of depth I was looking for based on IV. Lyrics take a backseat for the most part but everything about the mix suggests that is intentional.
Lots of great classics with a few duds.
great
An album years ahead of its time. What I particularly like about this album is that as a second release, LZ have yet to believe their own hype and descend into self indulgent track lengths. Probably my favourite LZ release and possibly the best entry point for the uninitiated
Some prime LZ here, Rob is in fine voice and there's a nice mix of styles and moods.
4.5 stars. Some massive tracks and a handful of less memorable ones.
great but not their best, imho
The Brown Bomber! I love Wikipedia's description of the three blues classics knockoffs here as "reinterpretations", which is both diplomatic and charitable... Sounds remarkably coherent considering its somewhat complicated making; what actually grabbed me on this revisit for some reason was Jones' bass, I listened to the 2014 remaster and the bass just jumped out in a way I don't recall it doing before. Fantastic stuff.
Chill Zeppelin
Do I have to have a Backdoor Man? If I could opt out of that, that would be preferable for me. Killer riffs but I generally find Led Zep a bit stressful.
It is a nice album for sure
Great fun - Bonham grooves and great songs - was a nice trip down memory lane.
Great album. Songs about Gollum
As much as Led Zeppelin gets on my nerves, it is impossible to deny the sheer power of these songs.
Another great led zeppelin album. Starting to become a fan! Love the guitars and the way they build up their songs. Favourite songs: - Whole lotta love - Ramble on
rock n roll!
Man that’s a good rhythm section.
Best Tracks: Whole Lotta Love Heartbreaker Ramble On Moby Dick
15th February 2022 Listened in the late morning while pottering about the flat. Lazy day, watched PSG Real in the evening. Laying down their bluesy, folksy and little glam rocky roots.
Many of my most-liked Zep songs are on this album. I wonder what it was like to get another fantastic album right after the first, which was also groundbreaking.
I'm ashamed for a few reasons: 1) I have never listened to this album in full, 2) I never realized I knew so many of these songs, 3) I want to live in the moment between "Heartbreaker" and "Living Loving Maid" forever, and finally, 4) I am now a fan of Led Zeppelin. Surprised to hear so much progressive rock in here!
Another album that I was already pretty familiar with, though it had been a while since I had heard it front to back! Led Zeppelin II has has some of my all-time favorite Led Zep tracks, while others on the album are "sometimes foods". That said, this is an album that I do enjoy listening to as one whole piece. This album is truly a pioneer among a few other late 60s trailblazers, building a foundation for a musical sound that would define an entire genre.
I now can safely say I enjoy Led Zeppelin and I think this album was solid. I think I still prefer 3 to this, but I respect this album quite a bit.
It's LZ II. If you haven't heard this yet you're either deaf or living somewhere with no music. It's a classic for a reason BUT it's not their best. I think it's lauded so much on the strength of a couple of songs. You know what they are. Best Tracks: Whole Lotta Love; Heartbreaker; Ramble On
Massive massive massive album. Had to put I, III and IV on straight after. Still iconic after all this time
These guys totally ripped off Greta Van Fleet!!!!!!
Gigantic
I've never listened to a led zeppelin album all the way through before and this is a good place to start. It's a lot more energetic than songs on led zeppelin 4 and it sounded like an ancestor to the black keys in a lot of ways. Fav: whole lotta love
Great rock album, contains some hits like "Whole Lotta Love" and "Heartbreaker" but some songs are forgettable.
big textured rock
It really rips. Minimal psychedelic jam band nonsense.
Saved Prior: Whole Lotta Love, Thank You Off Rip: Living Loving Maid (She's Just A Woman), Ramble On Cutting Edge: None Overall Notes: Still a little more blues for my buck than I typically ask for, but it's still pretty good and an improvement on I. III remains my favorite, but II slots into IInd of the III Led Zeppelin records I've listened to thus far. On to IV. Hail Caesar.
4/5 oooh nice :)
Very good band. This album is nice, songs like "Whole lotta love" or "Ramble on" are the best.
fye
Ahhh what can I say? Led Zep just rules. 4/5.
It's no IV, but then again, what is?
Revolutionary
Good album, I forgot what I was gonna write but I liked it Favorite Track: probably What Is And What Should Never Be
Classic
bluesiger als gedacht
Great drums
A strong classic rock and blues album. I've always felt that moby dick could have been one of their best songs if they just developed it a bit more rather than a big drum solo.
I can't relate this to anything really. Some tunes just hit (I think I am calling the 'tunes' incorrectly here).
Þessi negla! Elska þetta.
All in all a very good, very nice album.
Would be even better if Moby Dick lasted more than 20 mins
Quite very good, but just misses out on excellent
Quality although think I preferred III
Another 4.5 stars, better than LZIII
Yes
Incredible opener and although album doesn't live up to it, still an absolute classic.
So many good tracks, great vocals.
Every song slaps
egendary riffs (Whole Lotta Love ) and drum solos (Moby Dick). Simple and good. I love his voice and its sound. (7/10) Favourite Tracks: Whole Lotta Love, Ramble On
Great rock album that just slightly missed the 5* mark. Definitely revisit though🤘
Very strong album and lots to savour
Classic.
Very decent, echt van genoten
An all time classic rock album. Not necessarily Zeps best album but this one rocks hard and the solos show their talent. Not much wrong with this one. 8.6/10
8/10. Led Zeppelin all kind of blends together for me, but in a pretty positive way.
4 stars. Some aspects are a little overindulgent but still.....a rock and roll education
Fuck yeah. Eh overall it was good but didn't blow me away. 4 stars instead of 5.
Classic.
Amazing. Ofcourse.
