Reviews (page 12 of 14)

Love their stuff!!

ABBA was a band I always enjoyed, but more for singular songs than entire albums and I think this shows that too. This was a good album, there were some skips but also it had Dancing Queen and Fernando which are two of the biggest classics. Glad to see this album on the list, but it isn't earth shattering or anything. Nice album to end the week on.

There's no denying that this is very well crafted pop music. Quite enjoyable.

I am a fan of over the top upbeat poppy trash but for some reason I've never quite been seduced by ABBA. The hits are undeniably fun but much of the rest is just too ridiculous.

The hits hit but the non hits do not. Most are non hits unfortunately but the album is saved by the hits. Just not the biggest fan of chanting in general, even if ABBA is better than the bunch when it comes to that. Their songs sometimes have very grating and repetitive choruses, and this album has more than average number of them. Overall, however, it was a pretty good listen as I still enjoy pretty much all other aspects of ABBA songs. Favorite track: Dancing Queen

It's mostly lighthearted fun, obviously "Dancing Queen" is an absolute banger. But definitely weird in modern times with the song "When I kissed the teacher"

probably the best of whatever it is

strange to listen to an abba album that is mostly tracks i haven't heard before. my parents always had them playing a lot in my house when i was a kid, and obviously the films elevate a lot of their music into the public eye too. we all know the classics. so i will say that there's a reason a lot of these songs don't get heard very often when compared to the more popular ones. they just aren't as good imo - if they were good i would probably already be familiar with them. maybe that's a bit circular though. i guess im implying that the dividing line between good abba tracks and bad abba tracks is is whether they have achieved sufficient cultural penetration to be familiar to me, someone who has never felt the need to seek out abba himself. after all, why should i seek out abba when abba will inevitably make its own way to me anyway? that's not really fair though. the majority of these tracks haven't penetrated, but that shouldn't mean they're bad. the album was an enjoyable listen anyway i guess. it's fine. favourite track i had never heard before was Tiger, because i have no idea what it is about but it was a lot of fun lmao. love to be a tiger.

Dancing queen is actually a 10/10. Rest of album is good. I like it. Really a 3.49/5

Fairly entertaining but not really my thing. Might listen again for the title track

Föll av hårt i andra halvan men första halvan e så stacked med bangers att de e helt fine, knowing me knowing you är kanske min favorit av dem, måste tänka på saken

Helt oookoo

Parabba the Rabba

It was ABBA. It was fun. I preferred the other ABBA album from this list though.

Decent older pop album. Not something I'd seek out but wasn't bad

Not very interesting

This was okay, some of the songs were good, others were not.

ABBA were, in my opinion, the 70s version of bubblegum pop. Mass-produce, bland and mediocre in its quality of lyrics. Nearly 40 years later, my opinion still hasn’t changed, I’m not a great fan of them or their music but I appreciate that I am in the minority. When I compare it to many other 70s groups who lasted through to the 80s and beyond, I feel that it was nostalgic marketing that kept other on the scene, rather than quality of product. At Best 3/5

Put this off for many months. Didn't exactly like it

4/12, 33%

- Abba's not really my thing but can't deny they have some great tunes - Would rather listen to Abba singles than a full album of them - Some absolute classics that I've heard thousands of times mixed with ones I've never heard before and I can see why - Happy Hawaii is terrible - Fav songs: Knowing Me, Knowing You; Fernando, Dancing Queen

ABBA is a bit of a guilty pleasure for me, probably due to watching Mama Mia with my sisters. There are a handful on this album I like. Dancing Queen, Money (x3), Fernando. The rest just passes like a summer afternoon.

I’ve grown to appreciate ABBA over the years, even if they’re often not my taste. Arrival has some classics on it, but overall I kinda found it less interesting than The Visitors had been

The second coming of abba. A welcome one I won’t lie I mess with the discos and those two just have lovely voices and some awesome chord progressions

Classic

Heard it before?: No but I’ve heard half of the songs on here from compilation albums Enjoy it?: Yes, you know what you’re getting with ABBA and there’s not much deeper to look in and think about, just easy general and enjoyable listening experience Favourite song: Track 2 - Dancing Queen

My parents had this record. While I skipped over a lot of it, Knowing Me, Knowing You is probably my favourite of their songs. It gets three on the basis of that alone.

I heard this album endlessly growing up as my sister was a massive fan...and yet still only recall Knowing Me, Knowing You, Dancing Queen, and one I kinda like Money, Money, Money...so a pretty easy 3 stars right there.

Wow, blast from the past. I've only heard ABBA's greatest hits albums before so it was interesting to hear this album. It wasn't half bad! 3/5

Not bad for a Sunday. Exactly what you'd think.

ABBA was an unusual sound. Great harmony but always sounded forced. Once it was revealed that none of them spoke English it was a bit impressive.

Surprisingly dreamy production and technically impressive. Just not my bag.

I've heard many of the singles, but never experienced "ALBUM ABBA". It's ok, I guess. The teacher song hasn't aged so well. Cringe. Otherwise decent record for this kind of music, which is not my thing.™

Bangers

All the pop. The most pop that pop can be.

Best Song: Dancing Queen. Sure it's a bit much, and it doesn't seem that great when listened to quietly at home through a set of headphones, but that's not what it's meant for. It's meant for the dance floor, a large group, and everyone belting it out together. Worst Song: My Love, My Life. I'm just not here for slow ABBA ballads. Overall: When I fashioned myself an edgy teen, I think I decided that I didn't like ABBA because they were too safe and clean. I'm old enough now to see the error of my ways. It turns out they are safe and clean, but in a good way. It's dance-y, the vocals are harmonious. Honestly, their biggest fault is that they're overplayed, making songs like "Dancing Queen" come off as a bit cliche. Still, it's really just the hits here that still hit, and there is a fair amount of tedium around the middle.

So much pop you'd think it's composed with bubbles. The dancier pop tunes you can't fault, but the ballads... best left alone. There's a reason you know the hits. Best Tracks: Dancing Queen; Knowing Me Knowing You; Money Money Money

A classic disco album. I enjoyed it on my walk yesterday morning. I am curious to listen to to some more Abba!

It's hard for me to take a group like Abba seriously. Since I was a teen, Abba has been on the airways causing me to cringe, whine, complain and quickly turn the radio station. They have been a part of pop culture and life (in so many ways) since the 70's and believe it or not, they're following and dedicated fans are stronger than ever. For me, I have to admit, they have a certain guilty pleasure aspect to them. I don't cringe anymore, instead I secretly smile and smudgy say, "Oh no, not again! I can't stand Abba!", but really it's a harsh reminder of my fading youth and reminds me why there was so much to hate and love from the 70's. No more Abba!

It's good, of course it is, however, ABBA have so many many great hits that anything that isn't one of them is a bit boring.

Not entirely my style to listen to something like this front to back. Obviously Dancing Queen is a classic, and the songs are beautiful and such.

Who doesnt love fernando

Like the overall sound of the album, the vocalist has a great voice too. The album as a whole is a little weak though. It jumps around with tone and doesn't flow well.

Pretty good over all, decent classic sound 3 outta 5 mics

Not really an ABBA fan, but this was decent.

I've never been a fan of Abba. They do have a couple good songs and I most likely wouldn't turn the channel if any of their radio hits came on. They are for sure to bubblegummy for me. But they have nice harmonies. Well written songs. Not much to fault. Just not into the style.

3.5 stars, Catchy fun pop, a little bit of variation between tracks too, "Dancing Queen" "Fernando" standouts

I like some of the absolute bangers on here, but overall this album bores me a bit.

Full of their hits. Fun little album

I mean its pristine Abba but that isn't really saying much

An odd duck, this. The production is so bright and sugary that my teeth itch. The singing can, at times, harrow. The lowlights - tepid instrumental 'Arrival', 'Dum Dum Diddle' and the terrible 'Happy Hawaii' are some of the worst things I've ever heard. People have wound up at the Hague for less. Yet when they hit their marks - and it tends to be on the biggies like 'Money Money Money', 'Dancing Queen' and the peculiarly Hibernian 'Fernando', they really are excellent songsmiths. The saccharine gives way to the dreamy, and they soar. A pity that those moments are so thinly rationed.

Banger classics. Amazing production for the '70s. Fun songs.

In the 90s a band I was in did a really cool rock guitar version of "Knowing Me, Knowing You" - we butchered the vocal harmonies, alas, but I think we crushed it overall. I mean, it is what it is: it's ABBA: the sound of listening to the rear speakers in my parents' crappy station wagon while the family looked for open gas stations in the 70s. It's fluffy very melodic excellent pop - while it's not my favourite genre, it's still enjoyable and nice (in smaller doses) to listen to on occasion. 6/10 3 stars.

Pretty soothing. I jammed to a few tracks or two.

Actually quite a pleasant listen. I obviously knew the singles but there other nice songs as well.

Passe bra siden eg jobbe med svensk søk om dagen

3.8 - I was expecting a big, fat pop record and this record delivered in spades. I love the beefy production with surprisingly funky bass lines underpinning garlands of female vocals and swells of strings.

bangers on bangers

What was good was great, the rest was crap.

Yes. It has some of the classics, but it’s not my kind of jam

I mean it's super sweet cheesy pop music, I don't love it and I don't hate.. The fact they wrote so many of these songs is impressive.

Just an okay album. No bangers

Pop datado.

Pop melódico y armónico. Alguna buena canción (dancing Queen) pero el resto muy parecidas entre si

3 1/2, bra popdängor

Was dreading an hour of Abba, but plonked it on when working and to be honest it was just like listening Radio 2 In short, whatever is the opposite to lifechanging.

alvegok

3/5 quite good

My Mum owned this album when I was little so I’ve been familiar with it for a long time. Still stands up as a strong pop record though probably not my favourite ABBA record. Money x3 is a particular highlight but most of my other favourite songs are on other albums

A good example of a singles band who probably shouldn’t make albums.

My wife had said I am not a big "ABBA" fan. And I will admit, it's not the first thing I reach for when I want something to listen to. Having said that, this album is really well-crafted 70s pop. I liked a lot of the feel of some of the songs. Even hearing the 1977 version, with "Fernando," an inescapable song. And "Dancing Queen"... I mean, how can you NOT like that song? Having said THAT, this album is really well-crafted 70s pop. So some of the songs are very dated. Seeing that the first song is called "When I Kissed The Teacher," yikes. The sense of what is acceptable really is different from 50 years ago. "Tiger" is another one that just teeters on the edge of camp. I'm sure they were like "oh, this is going to be a great one." But now it's just... what were you thinking? It's interesting that the album is just over 30 minutes long. Each song is a crafted 3-minute piece, going for that pop kind of classic. Do they all make it? At the time, yes. It's just now some of them seem so... dated. (To be fair, I'm sure of the stuff I listened to as a kid is really dated as well. But I have been listening to it over and over so I do not notice.) So yeah, I am going to take it a bit more off for it sounding so dated. But I guess that's not their fault. They were going for a specific sound that just didn't age well.

I love the movie The Rock. Funny, great action sequences, a plot that is not completely ridiculous (??), good acting for the material. It is a fun movie. As far as action movies go it's a classic but that doesn't make it a classic piece of art. Ditto for this album. Lots of fun, music mixes well with the vocals, and lyrics are not completely drivel (??). I just can't find in the music or the vocals what makes it particularly impressive or what shows great skill. A classic disco or pop album but not a classic piece of art.

Very very 70s disco. The first track, "When I Kissed the Teacher" is 70s cheese of the highest magnitude. Knowing Me, Knowing You is not bad. Sounds like an early version of an 80s power ballad. I liked Dancing Queen (played a billion times, but good song), Why Did It Have to Be Me (decent rocker), and Arrival. The bonus edition has Fernando on it, which is a good track. I'll call it a solid 3. Not bad, good moments, not really my cup o' Swedish tea.

Meh. Very much the enjoyably forgettable one-night stand of albums: Good while it lasted, but no desire to revisit. I have nothing against ABBA, even if their music is a bit high on 70s cheese. That's what is so enjoyable/delightful about them! But I just can't muster a whole lot of enthusiasm for an album mostly comprised of middle-of-the-road tracks. Fave track is actually the title track, but then I've never been a huge fan of ABBA's vocals so I may be biased here. Even so, the title track fucking slaps. And Dancing Queen is still the perfect soundtrack for dancing like no one's watching. Fun, silly, unabashedly cheesy.

not bad

A fun, groovy album. 6/10

This is like a 2 1/2. I'm putting at a 3 just for Dancing Queen. It was all too much, but in small doses very enjoyable.

Never took ABBA seriously. That was a mistake. All tracks have a lot of inventiveness to entertain the music geek. And a couple to keep for good. Just a couple of throwaways.

Amother flashback to high school! Didn’t realize they were just a 50’s girl group with a disco beat! Now they’ve been ruined by white women drinking too much Chardonnay and dancing to Mamma Mia. There’s a place in my heart for Knowing You, Knowing Me and Fernando. Always liked Money, Money, Money too.

There’s a joyful innocence about ABBA that you don’t hear these days. I enjoyed this album

Good album

If they'd kept the original song titles, this would have been the running order: Rio de Janeiro Boogaloo My Love, My Life Dum Dum Diddle Knowing Me, Knowing You Been And Gone And Done It Coachman's Farm Tiger Fiol The bangers are the bangers, the rest is cacophodisco. Apart from "Coachman's Farm", which apparently only got to live its best life as a single in Japan, and the hair-raising conclusion of the otherwise entirely unmenacing "Tiger".

Dancing Queen I like.

Interesting to listen to the hits in the context of an album, but the singles are what this is really about. Fun, great pop singles, but not a great album.

Ihan hilpeetä rallattelua. Aikoinaan ollut varmasti edelläkviäjä monessakin mielessä joten 2,5 *

Löytyy perushitit, ihan ok

Pure pop with more depth than you'd think. 3

Better than I expected. While I’m not a fan of the band, I understand why so many like it.

Some certified bangers on here, but eventually I zoned out a little. Very pleasant vocals, shimmering instrumentals, nice production that doesn't sound dated at all. Favorite tracks: "Dancing Queen", "Dum Dum Diddle", "Knowing Me, Knowing You"

Thought it would be horrendous...some tracks ok...knowing me..money...Fernando raise to 3 star

Some nice singles, but a whole album of Abba is just too much.

Better than I thought it was gonna be, knew every other song so either amazing album or they just didnt release that many.

"Dancing Queen", "Money, Money, Money". Альбом - квинтэссенция лучшего, за что мы любим ABBA

Didn't enjoy this as much as The Visitors.

this one's another meh-it's-fine album for me. i did rather like when the A*Teens covered the shit out of abba in the late 90s; that felt like a bit of an improvement, to be honest.

Käytännössä lähes jokaisesta biisistä on tullut jonkinlainen klassikko. Juuri tämä onkin itselleni se suurin asia mikä levyssä tökkii - vaikka kappaleet ovat hyviä niin ne ovat myös äärimmäisen puhkisoitettuja. Ehkä itselleni levyn nautinnollisimmat kappaleet olivatkin avausraita When I Kissed The Teacher ja hieman vähemmän kuultu hitti My Love, My Life. Laadukasta musiikkia, mutta pidin enemmän Abban edellisestä levystä listalla.

This is nice. Nothing special, good to know some curiosities on the most famous ABBA album, but nothing more to say.

It's hard not to like Abba. Sure, it's kind of bubblegum music, but they are catchy, well-produced pop songs. Nothing wrong with that. 3 stars.

Classic pop, not my thing

This does feel harsh, but 4 is too much. There's some really good tunes on here, but some of them are just a bit boring to me. Nothing about it stands as an album either, in the sense that it's just a collection of tunes. Good tunes, but not great

Very up and down. There's the songs you know and the songs you don't

I’m not the first to say this, but there’s no reason to listen to this album instead of a “best of ABBA singles” playlist. Dancing Queen, Knowing Me Knowing You, Money Money Money are bops though.

I don’t know it’s ABBA it’s fine.

Went into it ready for a 1 star, as I never really got good vibes off Abba. I still don't, but it has some redeeming features.

Not my genre....obviously; however I was suprised at how much I enjoyed this album. The hits are uniformly very good, though I do wish the arrangements were just a little more edgy but that would be besides the point I suppose. Anyway a solid 3.5 for what it is and the sing-along factor.

Great pop music featuring perhaps the greatest pop song of all time.

Tasty slice of pop pie

Classics interspersed with cheese

A few pop gems, perfect for a Monday

they arrived like disco, all new and fun then left after a day BYE

I really like some songs of the album, but is not my favorite music style.

Favorite: Knowing Me, Knowing You

Pretty good, although Dancing Queen is the obvious standout.

Some jams, but not quite my favorite

Classic.

Just good fun. Way muddier mix than I remembered. This is kind of charming sometimes, but I would have liked to hear the impressive instrumental arrangements a bit better. The stadium guitars that appear every once in a while are pretty funny---but I'm definitely not complaining.

Not my style, but fun. Clearly influential and progressive

Fairly consistent album. Some classic singles and some filler

Relaxing

I mean.. it’s ABBA. Catchy tunes and they sound great even though it’s not my preferred style of music.

Really definitive sound. Vocalization is crazy and quite operatic. Good production quality. Not really my type of music so sounded repetitive after a few songs.

Fucking bops, all around.

Modern pop music would be better if more real drums (and bass and guitar) were involved. This is fun!

Trill lil pop album. Don’t know if I’ll ever listen again though :)

Classic pop album, some enjoyable tracks (more well known ones) though not really my thing.

already know dancing queen, and money money money. dont really like listening to them though

Disco folk music, as it were. Bright, shiny and happy, danceable and nostalgic.

1. when i kissed the teacher: escena inicial de peli de los 80’ con la protagonista corriendo en una tarde de verano vibes / 2. dancing queen: TEMAZO TEMON TEMAIKEN / 3. my love, my life: cute / 4. dum dum diddle: que buena canción loco ojalá la pasaran en el baile / 5. knowing me, knowing you: de mis favs / 6. money, money, money: critica contundente al capitalismo!!!! / 7. thats me: divertida. / 8. why did it had to be me?: me aburrí / 9. tiger: esta está como pa escucharla cada mañana.

5/5 igual, no me importa naaaa. my love my life - casi me duermo, ni lei la letra, 1/5. "dum dum diddle"-parece una canción de xuxa mal hecha, 1/5 (nadie iguala a xuxa) "knowing me, knowing you"- not my cup of tea, ni la terminé. 1/5 "money money money" - abba invented capitalism 5/5. "If I got me a wealthy man I wouldn't have to work at all, I'd fool around and have a ball" no quiero decir que me recuerda a alguien pero.... "thats me"- "But I'm not a man's toy, I'll never be I'm Carrie not-the-kind-of-girl-you'd-marry That's me" la pongo en la proxima marcha 4/5 "why did it have to be me?"

Not my style, but well done for sure.

Erg hoempapa maar wel lit

Schwer zu hören, schwerer nicht mitzusingen

Well, it's ABBA. What else is there to say? Catchy pop tunes, a couple of them extremely well-known. But mostly too unassuming and lacking any depth.

Good mix.

Easy and fun listen, very similar to The Carpenters in that regard. I was a little underwhelmed, especially with some of the more singsong-y tracks like Dum Dum Diddle and Happy Hawaii - obviously nothing is gonna rival Dancing Queen, but nothing else made a great impact on me. This could be a 4 off pure enjoyment alone, but a high 3 feels much better for how I felt about this as an album Already Saved: Dancing Queen Saved After Listening: My Love, My Life

Nao da pra nao gostar de ABBA

Some obvs bangers but not my jam really

A solid album full of hooks by the Swedish goliaths of pop

Perfectly pleasant 70's pop.

This was better than I feared. The singles were okay, dancing queen is good. The rest was not annoying.

I like ABBA, but besides the singles I wasn't impressed

ABBA is great in small doses but the happy-pop vibes get really grating after a while. But the good 1st half balances out the 2nd bad half for me.

Best leuk dat ABBA en jaloersmakend hoe zij liedjes kunnen schrijven. Maar een heel album is toch wel iets too much.

Goede timing, zo net voor het songfestival. ‘Knowing me, knowing you’ is een favoriet van me. Verder vond ik het nogal een zit, een hele plaat ABBA.

A classic album and even tho parts of it are problematic, I still really liked the way it sounded.

Fun and catchy pop songs, but I’m just not the biggest ABBA fan. Glad I listened though!

This was pretty good. Easy to listen to with quite a few tunes.

great voices, nice record, some cool songs and a timeless classic

Don't make me listen to more than two songs of ABBA in a row, thanks :-D (and I give it three stars because I still recognize it's a nice pop album of its time)

Not a great album in terms of structure or when taken as a single work, but a really good collection of songs.

Abba is niet mijn ding

Wel prima album, maar het blijft jammerlijk Abba

It's really all disco. Everything.

nice one. Again, from my childhood.

Its a good album i've heard most of the songs before but this sorta music just isnt for me

Never a bad time for abba

I'm now the dancing queen

Abba, Pop. Pretty Nice.

Mixed. Some classics in there, but not really my taste

Oh well ABBA...reminds me of some good parties and other good memories. But I wouldn‘t listen to this on my own.

A typically good ABBA album

I couldn't help but recall that this album was basically written to win Eurovision.

Listened to about 5 songs.

ABBA is a good bit of fun but it's cheesy shit 7/10 haha

i think i got the ick from abba

Remove Dancing Queen from this album and there isn’t a single song worth listening to. It’s dated, Euro-rock that has no business being on this list of 1001.

I have so many questions. Starting with “I Kissed the Teacher” … whoa, Lady, I’m a mandated reporter. The ‘Dancing Queen’s’ only 17’? Why is she in a club? Is this a school night? There’s a trend of underage inappropriateness showing up. ‘Dum Dum Diddle’? Hmmm …Skipping this one based on the word ‘diddle’ and the emerging theme, just to be safe. Look, people of a certain age have a soft spot for ABBA. I am not one of them. This soft core disco is just not good. Gimme Donna Summer all day.

There are two kinds of people in the world: those who like ABBA, and those who have good taste.

I'm may have heard this when it "Arrived" in 1976, but other than the singles, it did not make any kind of mark. Fifty years on, I can appreciate the music, especially the melody and arrangement of Money, Money, Money, but themany of the lyrics made me cringe, and I could have died happy bypassing this album. "Dancing Queen" is a song of its time and still affects people half a century later, but i'd take "The Day Before You Came" over any of these songs.

The singles are great, I mean it’s ABBA. But it’s not filled out by other catchy earworm pop songs. Album wise not essential.

I know that being into Abba is a bit cooler now than it was say, 30 years ago, but either I haven't caught up, or I just dont get it. There's some okay songs here, but quite a few tacky ones, such as "When I Kissed The Teacher" or "Why Did It Have To Be Me". This is a 2.5 album, and I'm still not sure which way I'm rounding it.

Urge to rewatch Muriel’s Wedding rising! I don’t like ABBA, but their influence is everywhere. Not for me. 2/5

Iconic pop band - reminds me of circles of ladies dancing around handbags at a wedding. ------ I'm drawn to the alternative. This is about as far from my taste as I can think of. It's super clean, white disco. I can respect it but for the most part I don't enjoy any of it. I usually sit down when the DJ puts this kind of music on and watch other people getting something out of it. Maybe I'm just a miserable bastard? [Knowing me, knowing you] I don't mind. A little rockier at least.

Well i do not like ABBA, I'm a disgrace ro my heritage.

Idk. I don‘t really like it. It‘s boring.

What a strange album! I only know ABBA's big hits, so this was very new to me. So weird...

Highlights: Dancing Queen, Knowing Me Knowing You, Fernando. 2.9

Eh, I kinda get tired of ABBA.

Not my cup of tea.

Only listened to half of it- I'm not really into disco and most songs sounded pretty similar. Enjoyed knowing me, knowing you. Dancing Queen and money, money, money are classics.

Don’t like abba

not my cup of tea it's just like some instrumentale not really my cup of tea it is good if you want something to remind you the mountain or Heidi

Today I have learned that ABBA annoys me. I liked Happy Hawaii and Fernando, but that was it honestly. The singles have childhood niceness attached, but... yeah I'm a soulless husk of a human who doesn't enjoy this album and was listening out of obligation... I don't know how to feel about this revelation.

Shrill glam lite

Не подобається такий поп. Занадто прямолінійний, невигадливий, місцями вторичний. Мені не дуже сподобалось. Оцінка: середня-висока 5

I can appreciate the musical talent, but it's just not for me. I kissed the teacher and Fernando is not relatable for me.

Not bad but loses a star because I put it on a few times but kept getting distracted.

You have to admit they can write earworms, and some of them are legitimately fun. I find it repetitive on a whole album, tho, and I find most of their use of synths corny. Ultimately I couldn't get to the end of this.

I’m glad it’s over, if that tells you anything.

When i kissed the teacher - 2 Dancing queen - 4 My love, my life - 2 Dum dum diddle - 2 Knowing me, knowing you - 3 Money, money, money - 3 That's me - 2 Why did it have to be me? - 3 Tiger - 2 Arrival - 2

I can see the appeal of this, but I can't get into it. It's too much like the Henry Mancini Choir Does Disco.

They know how to make a pop song, but goddamn so much of this was annoying. "Money, Money, Money" "Dum Dum Diddle" "That's Me" each grated on my so heavily that I was complaining out loud (to no one in particular) when the chorus rolled around for what felt like the 12th time. "Dancing Queen" is played out, but it makes sense why it's a hit, also true of "Fernando" (which I understand was not originally on the album). I actually thought the instrumental "Arrival" was pretty good, and I somewhat enjoyed "Knowing Me, Knowing You" and "Tiger," even if the latter was so silly I laughed.

ABBA - Arrival Hmmm. Thought I’d like this more. A bit shit apart from Dancing Queen. Music inoffensive enough but the lyrics are pretty buns throughout. I like the idea of abba, the occasional hit single, rather than sitting through an actual album. No hidden gems here. A bit boring. Best track : dancing queen ⭐️⭐️

a couple of very good classics (2/5)

Abba has escaped my scrutiny for 50 years. Despite their monster success in my youth, frequent appearances for decades in several forms and massive 21st century revival, I have given them little thought. Their presence parallels the Star Wars phenomenon that I have similarly overlooked although in a more openly dismissive fashion. Abba never truly entered my radar. I cannot say, “shame on me.” While the catchiness of several songs cannot be missed, I struggled to find other aspects of their music that stood out. There is formulaic blandness to their music that infrequently caught my attention in positive and negative ways. This type of pop contains its own Wall of Sound. Unlike the Phil Spector version, which crammed everything into a mono mix orchestra of heartbreaking drama, Abba’s music sounds like a puree of vegetables with only a niblet of corn occasionally providing something tasty. Pounding drums in “Tiger”, the disco ball sounds of “Dancing Queen” and some attitude present on “Money, Money, Money” from the keyboards, lyrics and strong solo singing. However, this song grabbed me on the same cartoon-like level of Boney M’s “Rasputin.” With the emphasis on vocals, it is imperative that they seize the ears in some fashion. I find Abba’s singing pitch-perfect in a most uninteresting manner. Perhaps the production shaved off most of the humanity, but the offerings failed me even as fun bubblegum. Unlike several recent records, I totally support Abba’s inclusion on the list, but not anyone who argues for their artistic greatness.

Meh. Not horrible, just not a big fan of disco. Obviously have heard Dancing Queen a thousand times and the rest of the album sounds pretty similar.

"When I Kissed the Teacher" - 2.45 "Dancing Queen" - 3.5 "My Love, My Life" - 2.0 "Dum Dum Diddle" - 2.5 "Knowing Me, Knowing You" - 3.5 "Money, Money, Money" -3.0 "That's Me" - 2.5 "Why Did It Have to Be Me?" - 3.1 "Tiger" - 3.5 "Arrival" - 1.5 "Fernando" - 2.78 "Happy Hawaii" - 3.8

Top of the pile of albums that do crazy things to your blood pressure. Sickly sweet pop meets blinding white disco, it's as corny as it is undeniable.

No much of an ABBA person.

They get way too much credit for their sound with that musical. They have okay disco tracks, but it's not as iconic a sound as fans make it out to be. Only like two of these tracks in the entire album are memorable.

I listened to like 4 hrs of ABBA when I was going through the Rolling Stone top 500 albums & they put a compilation album on the list…im tired of these people yelling at me. A B(ba)

A bit like the beach boys, it's super familiar and obviously popular but not something I'd ever listen to again by choice.

FEEL THE BEAT FROM THE TAMBOURINE... then again, it is very much just 70's disco pop. abba's best songs are all from different albums. so i would feel weird rating this 3-4 stars. also meryl streep sang money money money better.

3 bangers but couldn't stomach the rest of the album.

Disappointed with this one. Other than the hits it's an underwhelming listen. Not much more to say. A short album, but not the pop orgazm I was expecting for an album that contains one of the best pop songs ever written (dancing queen of course). My love my life is probably my favorite non-hit here. A nice melodramatic ballad. Other than that, not bad, but not good as well. A 2.5 .middle of the road.

Read the Christgau review. It's a gem. Listening to this in the K-Pop era adds a bit of a wrinkle to looking back at 1970s disco-pop. Will the giant K-Pop hits sound this dated in 40 years or will the extra effort to be cool make them age better? Most of these songs are throwaways but I really like Knowing Me, Knowing You.

I don't think anyone outside sweden can understand how annoyingly everywhere Abba was when we grew up. Now i realise it's perfectly competent m.o.r pop and I still can't stand it.

Four of the 12 songs got airplay but the rest of the album was just so-so for me. An odd mix of styles.

meh-they all seem to blend together. don't understand the appeal-70's disco pop

I learned why disco died a long time ago

meh-really don't get the appeal. all the tracks kinda blur together. 70's disco pop.....

one hit

RATING: 4/10 HIGHLIGHT: Knowing Me Knowing You LOWLIGHT: Dum Dum Diddle

- It's a little precious for me. Some famous hits on here, but I just never could get into Abba. - I try to listen to these albums a couple times, but I really didn't want to when I got home from work - it's just too bubblegum and samey. - The lyrics are pretty nondescript - and the weird when I kissed the teacher thing... - I do like that it's upbeat, there's definitely a time and place for it, but in my living room isn't it, lol.

So highly rated and beloved - Dancing Queen is an all timer - the rest was just the same shit over and over. I couldn't get thru it.

The top review says 'There are 2 types of people in this world: people who like ABBA and boring people '. Call me a boring people because this is 2 passable disco tracks and a whole load of overly saccharine filler crap that I just really do not care for. I would love to give it a 1 out of spite, but that's not fair.

I know I am supposed to like ABBA but as a whole I just don't. The popular tunes are good bops as they say but otherwise I am just not a big fan.

Not my thing.

Bubblegum pop from the 70’s basically. Not my style, pretty receptive. I don’t like some of the synth sounds. A couple of ok songs though.

It was okay

Es un musical

Almost every known hit but imho 20bpm too slow

What a waste of vinyl.

lotta bangers

Maybe I was in a bad mood. Maybe I was expecting too much. Maybe I’m just used to hearing their collections of hits. Maybe it was the weather… but outside of the big singles, I didn’t love this.

Yeah… it’s alright. Some good jams, but ultimately, I didn’t enjoy the album. Could be the genre, coulda been the wine.

I’m kay

Попса попсой, под настроение такое можно послушать, но в настоящий момент мне это не особо интересно. Дэнсин квин и маниманимани хорошие, остальное можно скипнуть спокойно.

What a weird song to open with. Dancing Queen is on here which I can't deny is an all timer. That's the only reason it's has more than one star.

Terribly dated and tacky thing.

1976. Became one of ABBA's most successful albums to date.

It does not evoke any particular feeling in me, not a huge Abba fan, not a hater either, it's just ok

not my fave

I dont like

Decent

Some great songs but a whole album of ABBA is too much for me.

I just find their stuff really on the nose and boring

tiene temas conocidos de ABBA, pero sigue sin ser mi "onda"

Non è il mio genere

Not sure if l was just in a bad mood or what, but ABBA is kind of annoying.

Lots of quintessential ABBA here, which is typically not my taste, but listening to this album in full did help me recognize the strong storytelling in these songs. I had never heard the title track, Arrival, which I thought was pretty in an unusual way. I enjoyed the juxtaposition of upbeat disco with the less than joyful content in Knowing Me, Knowing You. Another personal highlight was Why Did It Have To Be Me since it felt like a different flavor than the other tracks. Overall, this is a fun album but it isn’t one I’d spend more time with.

Not for me

A few popular songs, but I don’t understand why some get so excited with this band.

Nice to hear famous ones in context...

dramatic but like in a musical theater sense instead of something cooler. at times just plain kooky. pleasantly surprised by the kookiness kinda working musically on arrival tho and i quite like the verses on fernando. but then they just get so… abba on the chorus and i don’t like it.

Just not for me

ABBA has a few hits here and there that I can stomachs in small doses. This is too much abba.

there’s something about abba that just doesn’t really click with me. i didn’t really care for the opener. dancing queen is fun though. i used to hate that song but i think it’s grown on me. i think it’s their voices. maybe i just got this one on a bad day. it might just be that first song. i love my love, my life. yea it’s either the most incredible song ive heard or doing nothing for me. why is there a blues song on this. i wanted to like this. my friend’s a big abba fan but yea i wasn’t really feeling this. favorite tracks, dancing queen, money money money, my love my life. the rest was fine.

Dancing Queen.

We've surely all sung along to ABBA tunes on the radio at some point in our lives. They can certainly make a catchy song and I appreciate there's more to the craft here than a lot of pop music since... but frankly, it's just not for me.

I like ABBA but this album wasn’t good. I’d rather listen to their greatest hits. Cringe listen, sorry.

I don't really like Abba

Not my kind of music.

A moment in time. Great album from the Swedish band, which does undoubtedly deserve their inclusion. I would keep 'The Visitors' as the better record. 7/10 [DROP]

2.0 stars. This might be the first album in this project that I genuinely didn’t connect with. I understand why ABBA is beloved - the hooks are undeniable and the production is built for movement, but the overall sound feels very locked into its era, and not in a way that resonates with me. It comes from a specific time and cultural feeling that just feels distant. I can absolutely see how this would light up a dance floor, and “Dancing Queen” is legendary for a reason, but much of the album left me cold. There are flashes of catchy songwriting, but as a full listen it just wasn’t for me. Favorite track: Fernando

too chill

Disco at its discoest. Some well known songs, good if you are in a very specific mood, otherwise awful and dated, despite talented vocalists.

Only abba I know is abacabb

It’s pretty top heavy. The big singles are classics but I can’t get with the rest of the album. It’s a fun album tho

Started off well with the first few tracks and a bit meh from there. I genuinely started off thinking this would be a four-star album and then just lost interest.

Not my fav! I liked the first couple songs but i think i stopped listening htrough the last half of the tracks? not sure, although those songs i know i have listened to before like "money money money", "thats me", etc. what i do like is that i found some good abckground songs like "when i kissed the teacher" and "my love, my life". this album makes me think of dream land and cotton candy and blue and pink and like yeah lol. woukd i say its my taste persay? no. but i do have a good bunch if the tracks on my liked songs, and honestly its hard for me to find good songs to multitask/study with but i did like listening to some of these while doing work in a busy space. not too distracting. not bad abba!!

i think that SNL skit has ruined Abba for me

Perfect pop. Just not for me.

I find this album generally disagreeable

This is 70s pop that I just can't sit through. Not my scene. No.

A few decent songs but not really my kind of thing

some of them are classics but no for me

I have always heard ABBA colloquially and I’ve never minded them. It’s fun music, dancing queen you’ll instantly recognize anywhere. But when I actually sat down and listened to Arrival, my first full ABBA album I just got mad for some reason. It’s not harmonically interesting at all but somehow still annoyingly over the top. Completely missed me here

Disquinho insignificante!

Def not an album I would choose to listen to.

Well, I can see the appeal. A little.

Favorite track(s): Dancing Queen, Money, Money, Money

They're very talented and it's objectively a good example of what it is. But I'm just not really into this type or genre, and I'm trying to reduce the breadth of my three-star category, LOL.

They are so …pastel. LOL Not for me.

Yeah no thank you.

I dislike this band a great deal, but Fernando goes alright.

I didn't get to listen to the full thing

Not really my cup of tea, but it is a classic

Shiny, smooth, and boring. I can see why people like the band. But I don’t.

2 stars because it's Abba, I really don't like this type of music

Dancing Queen is a classic of course, but this just generally isn’t my style. Can see why others like it though.

even the "hits" suck on this album
