Reviews (page 11 of 14)
Not a fan of ABBA
Pretty decent album. Dancing Queen is the standout track, and the rest is catchy pop with some nice singing.
Hits and void
Удивительно, что заглавный Arrival стоит в конце альбома, хотя мог бы быть, по звучанию и названию, отличным интро. Начинать потенциально популярный альбом песней When I Kissed A Teacher - куда более экспериментальное (скорее странное) решение. Хай хайз, лоу лоуз. Несмотря на ностальгию, мне все еще не понятен статус Money x3. Лучшая песня - Knowing Me, Knowing You.
Pretty good album, some classic songs and some ones I was not familiar with
It sure is Abba.
Went from the weirdest album on the list with Duck Stab by the Residents to the most syrupy pop album on the list. Neither is my cup of tea.
It's ABBA. Never dislike it, never love it. Knowing Me, Knowing You was one I hadn't heard before that I enjoyed
There is now greater appreciation of ABBA as a great pop group and crafters of memorable dancefloor fillers than was the case in the 1970s. This album contains some of their greatest hits and there is no doubt how good songs like Knowing Me, Knowing You are. That said, I was never much of an ABBA fan and I really do not need to hear (or dance to) Dancing Queen again. Fine for ABBA fans but not something I will be rushing out to buy
Enjoyable! I had fun listening to this! Dancing Queen is a bop for sure! I just don't see it being something that enters my regular rotation, but I respect the hell out of it.
The first half was rough, but I dug the second.
iconic, but samey
money x3 and dq r fire, rest were ok. not sure if id relisten
Pretty good. Although the only bangers were the ones I already knew
I love mama Mia!
I’m intimately aware of ABBA having grown up in the 70s while my parents rocked to this. These songs tho many of them are new to me. So great new intro to their discography.
Abba is that kind of one dimensional feel-good music that everybody tolerates but nobody seems to really favor unless they really do. If you listen too closely to the lyrics it starts to get a little uncomfortable.
A few really great tunes, but overall not my favorite album.
Fernando!
* Kissing the teacher??? * Dancing Queen still sounds fantastic * My Love, My Life is a great love song
This album is interesting for sure. I definitely don't think this is one I would've listened to beginning to end on my own. I can't say I'm the BIGGEST ABBA fan, but their music is so soothing and easy to listen to. There is no denying the insane harmonies they're capable of. I am definitely intrigued by the songs that could never fly today, such as the opener "When I Kissed the Teacher." Also, I don't believe I have ever heard an ABBA song with the male singers as the lead, and that was a fun little surprise.
Not as "disco" as I might have thought. Not very strongly to my personal preference, though.
Cheery and lush
"Я думал, будет хорошо, а вышло не очень"(с) Как-то плосковато показалось
Very interesting album, I am from a few decades after this came out so I am only familiar with a few ABBA songs before this. The album gives off the feelings of confidence and happiness even just off the first listen. The highlights for me were the instrumentals throughout, but specifically on Dum Dum Diddle, Arrival, and Fernando. I am not sure why the title track wasn’t the first song on the album but I assume there is a reason eventhough it would be a great intro. I could be the only one who thinks this but the instrumentals on the title track sound similar to a bagpipe which I think sound amazing. Dancing queen will forever and always be a classic. Overall I just don’t think this album is my cup of tea but I do understand the nostalgia and love for this album. 5/10 (first album review :))
Fernando and money, money, money were standouts to me. Sometimes Abba feels repetitive to me but enjoyed the album for the most part.
Not my vibe
ABBA halt, was soll man da sagen?
Not every song on this album was great, but there are some solid tracks. I wasn’t a fan of the ballads but the dancier numbers were a lot of fun. Some real ear worms that I’m not mad about. The bass is a real stand out.
Good fun, I thought I would like it more than I did though.
Syrupy sweet and a bit hokey, but easy to listen to.
fun disco pop, some songs i know incredibly well and some i’ve never heard before. i think this helped my hangover in terms of a morale boost whilst laying on the sofa. favourite song i’d heard before was fernando, best new song i hadn’t heard was tiger.
Some bops, some nots. Not bad, not my typical thing but a couple solid jams.
Decent
This is exactly what I'd expect from an ABBA album, delightful, catchy, twinkly, world famous pop singles supported by a cast of twee, less delightful, less catchy twinkly pop songs. Ratio of hits to fluff is pretty good, probably would've got a four had it not started with When I Kissed The Teacher. 3/5.
I gave up a while ago. Abba is pretty good.
OOOOO time for the slicked up stylings of some Scandos. Honestly, Dancing Queen isn't the single that it should be, and a lot of these songs are overly polished. Tiger has some teeth. Fernando is also good. But honestly, the singles are stronger than the sum of this one's parts.
Cheerful, nice
some classic singles for sure. ABBA is great at making fun, catchy pop songs, but the sequencing and album all together didn't hit for me.
2.5/5
3,5
Definitely enjoyed some of these, some not so much
Classic excellence. But I do very much hate listening to abba alone, it is a very flat experience. Also, very sorry to the world but 3 stars feels adequate
It’s got Dancing Queen, so there’s that. I don’t doubt the influence of this album but I didn’t get too into this. It’s just so corny! But it’s not bad. High 3.
I'm not much of an ABBA fan but I can't deny they wrote some of the catchiest pop songs ever made, including several on this record. While the songs themselves are a little "sugary", the vocals and production quality on this album are great. Somehow, I think Dancing Queen will live on forever.
The hits were great, the rest was not. I really don't think the vocals are very good for what is supposed to be a vocally focused group.
# 123 : This album was good, sounds like its full of show tunes, but it has a couple of bangers that are all that foot tapping ABBA music that ABBA is famous for. Favourite Track : Knowing Me, Knowing You Listened : 04/12/2023
Dancing queen is a timeless bop so 3 stars just off of that
They had me dancing but what now?!
Dancing Queen is a fantastic song. There are other decent ones here, but overall it's not my favourite sound.
It’s ABBA. Catchy bubblegum pop. 3 stars
Dancing Queen is a classic. The album is very good, but it didn't do much for me. 3/5.
3/5. Not a bad album by any stretch of the imagination, but not that high up there for me. I give kudos to Dancing Queen and My Love, My Life.
Hela soundet. #1 lite sådär. Varken bra eller dålig. #2 detta är ju en hit, rättmätigt. Den är mycket bra. Texten är lite märklig, "you are a teaser, you turn them on...only seventeen". Bra plan! Eller ragga upp en rik snubbe. Jaja, desperat kanske. Pop ska inte vara så seriös. Men lite får man döma. #7 nej tack #8 nja #9 i am behind you? Ok.
Some killer, some filler. Overall enjoyable but find myself waiting through the lows for the hits
Classic album. I must say I prefer some of their other songs, because of Mamma Mia the movie/musical and just general popularity a lot of these are overplayed to my ears. But for good reason!!
Great
I certainly would have hated this if I was a youth in 1976 but it sounds great today !
Lots of classics that are fun to dance to if drunk, and kinda impressive all from one album, but am not really an abba girly
It's not my cup of tea, but it's not terrible. I wouldn't listen to the whole album again, but if a song from this album appeared on a playlist and my phone was on the other side of the room, I likely wouldn't get it to skip a it.
When I Kissed The Teacher - this song is making me realize that i have never sat and listened to ABBA ever in my life. (1/5 it's giving statutory) dANCING QUEEN - 5/5 i can listen to this song ONCE in a blue moon. feel the beat from the tangerine!!!!! My Love, My Life - they are so Swedish. (3/5 just a slow love song) Dum Dum Diddle - you know what, i appreciate the goofy onomatopoeia. dum dum diddle, ya know? (4/5) Knowing Me, Knowing You - i'm vibing but tbh i'm not really listening. i think this is another band that is just kind of easy listening. (3/5 i'm just not blown away. 2:50 Sims 3 intro?) Money, Money, Money - the prequel to "Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!". i was joking?? i'm low-key impressed with how dark this sounds with this minor key. (4/5 i have not been sold on this song, but i get it) That's Me - still just vibing. enjoying the vibes though (3/5) Why Did It Have To Be Me? - hm. i don't feel this. (2/5 i am not a fan of the like Jukebox Rock sound this kinda has) Tiger - i think i am being threatened (4/5 girlboss of you) Arrival - i really wanted to make a "omg they said the title" joke. 1/5 for ruining my fun actually. Fernando - beach vibes with my boy Fernando (3/5 back to vibing) Happy Hawai'i - hhhhhhh the ASMR type shit going on i'm going to rip my skin off. 1/5 i might not be able to finish this song. jk the waves got quieter. anyway 2/5 for that i kinda feel bad giving this a 3/5. it really wasn't a bad album at all. i had some personal issues with some of the songs but for the most part it was positive vibes so i feel like this should get a pass. it just really isn't my thing. my favorite song by them is Gimme! so i thought i might get some songs like that but i didn't.
Perfectly listenable
Couple of fun songs but I don't typically seek out Abba anymore
70 年代真是朝气蓬勃啊,对生活和爱的热情和希望藏都藏不住。 热闹的编曲和合成器、深情到略显俗气的人声 - "Knowing me knowing you, there's nothing we can do." But it's good to be reminded that a period like this existed in history
Middle of the album better than the start and finish. Progresses okay. Arrival (song) is trippy, but not my kind of instrumental.
It's a classic
Such catchy songs. Wish they weren’t lodged in my brain! Lush production, love the piano, fun disco beats
Some iconic songs
It’s Abba, so you’ll be bouncing in your seat listening to it. Title track and a few others are good. Not something I’d listen to again, appreciate it but not something I’d put into rotation.
Not for me.
Strange contrast between famous ABBA bangers and pretty mid songs. Opposite of how I usually feel about singles in older albums which is interesting.
Hmmmmm...pretty good pop album with some verrrrry strong songs 'Knowing me, knowing you' and 'Money, money, money' but a couple of definite fillers in Dum Dum Diddle or whatever I was called and the Hawaii song. I was 11 when this was released and didn't understand the fuss the and am not sure about it now.
I'm not particularly into ABBA but I've always enjoyed their songs. Listening to this reminded me of being at Uni in a Reflex or PopWorld singing my drunken heart out. It's just catchy pop but high quality pop. I wouldn't listen to it again but I throughly enjoyed it. Highlights: Dancing Queen Knowing Me, Knowing You Money, Money, Money Tiger
I enjoyed listening to this one for the most part though every track feels pretty similar - Arrival was an interesting departure from the rest of the tracks Least fave track: Happy Hawaii
Catchy, danceable, obviously very effective production, but the lyrics don't bear any attention. The fantasies are too insipid to be thought about, and that's a hard constraint to have put on my listening. If a song is playing there's always the risk that I might think about it! But in the right mood at the right time, there's a jingly pop children's-book cheer to these that I'm not immune to.
noh se on abba... olemassa ei ole popimpaa bändiä. jokainen biisi kuulostaa samalta, eli ihan kivalta. kyseenalaustavia lyriikoita riputeltu sinne tänne. ruohtalaisten ylpeys...onneksi olkoon... radiotoistoon luotu...hohhoijjakkaa fernando
Dancing Queen, and Fernando were huge hits off this album. Typical 70s Disco pop music, that was very popular at the time. It seems Money Money Money has also been revied recently due to tik tok. Overall it wasn't a bad album, just not my type of music
7/10 ABBA es música feliz, transmite mucha alegría.
ABBA, geht fast immer…
Paar bängerit ofc, aga uuesti seda albumit kuulata ei jaksaks. Pole minu stiil. Mõni laul oli täiesti uus, mida polnud varem kuulnud. Mõned ikoonilised klaveripartiid ja vägagi tantsitav biit ja tõesti meeldejäävad meloodiad. Mõni laul üllatas! Nt "Tiger" oli kuidagi tabava sõnumiga, üllatavalt eluline. Lemmikud: Dum Dum Diddle, Money Money Money
It's ok
There's a pretty even balance of Abba classics and clunkers that aren't remembered for a reason, but even with its flaws it's a pretty fun album. 3.5/5
Every time I go into a records store, I sh!t you not, I never fail to see a duo of wealthy suburban girls--usually 8th or 9th graders--walking out with an ABBA album in hand. And the best part is that they spend a maximum of five minutes in that store without picking up any other records. I hope they're feeling really good about themselves.
B When I Kissed the Teacher 4 Dancing Queen 5 My Love, My Life 4 Dum Dum Diddle 3 Knowing Me, Knowing You 3 Money, Money, Money 4 That's Me 3 Why Did It Have to Be Me? 2 Tiger 4 Arrival 2 The expectations were sky-high with this one, and I was hoping it could snatch a 4, maybe even a 5. In the end, it didn't quite meet expectations but it introduced me to some more great ABBA.
Naja. Schwache Lyrics In die Jahre gekommenes Mastering Musikalisch interessant Vocals sehr gut gemacht Enge Soundstage
You can’t deny the quality of their hit singles and this has a few of them PLAY YA YA DING DONG!!!
The hits are great, the rest is fine.
Sounds just what you would imagine and ABBA album would sound like.
Best Songs: Dancing Queen, Money,Money,Money, Fernando
Heh niikuin yhtyeen kappale.. ahh..ahh ahh...ahh.... staying objective...staying objective..
Not for me
Solid
Ever since I can first recall hearing “adult music”, there has always been ABBA—and even though I didn't know any of the artists' names at the time, they were right there along side Linda Ronstadt, Donovan, Gordon Lightfoot, Bread, Roger Whittaker, and Vangelis. But that experience has always been through individual tracks on a mix tape, on the radio, or through the compilation of a best-of album or, ahem, a certain movie. This album is upbeat, carefree, and not quite disco. There are a couple tracks I'd never heard before, and I really enjoyed the titular track, Arrival—its regal, Gaelic influence stands apart from the rest of the album as brief intermission or something. There are some 4 and 5 star tracks on here that are also some of their biggest hits. While reflecting on why this album may have been included on this list of 1001 albums, let me go back to that earlier description, "not quite disco." It makes me think, "What genre is this?" It's nothing like the folk music of the era. It's not rock and roll like Elvis or the Beetles in the generations before. It's not heavy metal like Black Sabbath, nor is it like the progressive/experimental rock that King Crimson and Genesis were making at the time. It's dance-able, but certainly not Soul, Jazz, Blues, or Country—and it's not funky enough to be Disco. The closest thing I can conclude is that, this is pop music. It's perhaps some of the earliest of the genre that would later assume that name. It's fun to listen to, easy to sing along with and dance to, has regular electronic/synthesizer accompaniment—it's catchy, and it sticks in your head. Overall I don't see myself revisiting this complete album very much—not because there's anything wrong with it though. The issue with an album like this is perhaps how the music around it has matured. It is like that quality, comfortable, old paperback still sitting on your bookshelf: you hang on to it just in case the itch arises to revisit it, but you just never really need to because there are so many more contemporary options available that continue to satisfy.
It's ABBA. Insanely catchy, but not my thing.
nice
Need to document myself on disco music for the musical I'm making so it came right on time. Some tracks are bops and the overall vibe is good but it starts becoming repetitive at some point. 6/10
I don't believe I've ever listened to an album by ABBA before. This sure had some hits.
These guys certainly know how to make a pop song. So many well known songs it was hard to listen to this objectively. I'm going to say Fernando is my fave track as it's been stuck in my head the most.
Oof - a lot of the tracks on this album were massive hits, which is fair enough - they're immaculate pop - but that resulted in them being played to absolute DEATH. 💀 My first play through that didn't bother me too much and I was probably on track to give this a 4, but a second listen and they really started to grate - I've just heard them far too many times against my will to be happy hearing them again. Probably shoulda removed them from the second playthrough and just listened to the ones I was unfamiliar with - ah well, too late now. Fave track - "Tiger", let's say.
alright, only liked a few songs
Dancing Queen is a pop gem that for me holds a special memory, so I'm already predisposed to like this album. Perhaps I'm spoiled by listening to Abba's greatest hits "Gold" album, but my overall reaction to "Arrival" is that it's OK. There are a few solid hits on this album, and I appreciated that the version I listened to had "Fernando" on it, but much just felt like pop filler. And "I Kissed the Teacher" (or whatever it was called) is a bit cringey given current sensibilities. At the end of the day, though, it's ABBA, so it's at least an enjoyable listen, even if I won't be revisiting this album often.
Ok ig
Disco isn't for everyone and this album certainly has its dull moments. But the songs that work well have a good mix of standard disco beats and some euro flair. 3/5 Would listen to the hits.
Pleasant. Never listened to anything from them other than the big hits, but was about as expected.
The hits were outstanding, with Dancing Queen towering above all. The rest was perfectly fine, but nothing that made you move or him.
Not bad, but wont listen again, maybe a few specific songs. "I kissed the teacher" would not pass today because of sexual assulting.
algums hits
Tämä on levy, jota ABBAlta voi suositella. Tasainen ja näyttää kaikki puolet, eli sen mahtavan mukaansatempaavuuden että ihan karsean ärsyttävät rallatukset. Kuulostaa ruotsalaisen musiikin avainteokselta.
ABBA is a band that I feel like you can only really be a fan of if you grew up with their music. Without the nostalgia glasses on, their stuff is super corny and very much of its time. As someone born in the '90s, I for one would never say something like "Hey, I think I'm going to voluntarily listen to an ABBA record today." But then again, if one of their hits came up on shuffle or started playing during a night out, you bet your ass I'd be having a ball. That type of appeal certainly counts for something! Standout tracks are Dancing Queen and Why Did It Have to be Me?.
Some good hits on here, but I'm still amazed people got laid to this.
The money sing is fire!
Hard to meet the Album bar.
Similar to an album like Thriller, where the legendary singles just seem to overshadow the rest of the album. That's not to say that the other songs aren't a decent listen, they're fun and catchy, but after the album is done I spent the next few hours singing Dancing Queen and Knowing Me Knowing You over and over to myself. A greatest hits comp is definitely the best thing for ABBA, but it can't be too bad of an album when a third of the songs are straight up pop classics. Just not something I see myself really going back to.
Abba is one of those bands where I am ideally satisfied with a greatest hits album. When they're great, they're phenomenal, but they're great like 2 or 3 times per album. Put those 2-3 together with a bunch of other top 2 tracks from other records and you have non-stop bangers. Put them together with 10 mediocre tracks and I just wonder why I'm not listening to Abba Gold instead.
Definitely not my wheelhouse. Let's see... I listened to this one in the background while working. I couldn't name you a track outside of Dancing Queen, but I found myself bobbing along quite a bit. Like bluegrass, disco is certainly not my thing, but I can see why people enjoy it and respect it accordingly. Would I go out of my way to listen to this album again? Absolutely not. Would I be miserable if I was roadtripping with someone and their car had a broken radio antenna and this one one of three albums to cycle through repeatedly? No. On account of that, I give this a 3 (leaning towards 4) / 5.
Dancing Queen might be the definition of a bop. Happy Hawaii was a very fun song to end the album. The middle was all good but pretty forgetful
3.4/5 pop
3 for nostalgia alone
Classic dreamy pop from the Swedish 4-piece. Some of the major hits are here, including Dancing Queen, Money Money Money and Fernando. It's fine as background music but didn't excite me much
Top 3 Songs: 1 - Dancing Queen (2) 2 - Money, Money, Money (6) 3 - Fernando (11)
Good
alright album, knew quite a few songs
dancing queen is obviously a monster hit…the rest of the album pales in comparison. some ok songs but it doesn’t even feel cohesive. there’s an even a blues number with that classic generic blues chug hahaha. wow.
I enjoyed this album a lot more than I expected. The production quality is great, the melodies are wonderful, and there are (obviously) some very catchy songs here. It's not my genre, really, but I had more fun with it than I thought I would.
So many big hits on this album, and the rest of the songs are very fun
Que alegría me da siempre ABBA(PSP)
Some hits on here. Overall alright, but definitely fun.
It’s very much 70s pop music, it’s enjoyable, energetic, and fun. Nothing earth shattering, but a fun listen for every once in a while.
Catchy, yet a little forgettable. The dudes in abba should sing more.
Bubbly disco pop. Not something I'd generally listen to, but I see why so many folks love ABBA.
A couple of well known songs. Dancing Queen was the best song on the album. It was alright. I wouldn't listen to the entire thing again though.
The ABBA album with dancing queen on it
I don’t know it was fun overall but I agree, teacher song is weird
Dancing queen and Fernando could earn a 5/5 on their own in my opinion but sadly they were dragged down 2 stars by I Kissed The Teacher 3/5
2 of my favorite songs are on this album but the rest of the bunch didn’t do much for me.
Abban hitit on törkeän hyviä ja ihan jänniä musajuttuja aina mukana myös. Kuitenkin niin umpipoppia, ettei ihan levyinä parhaimmillaan.
most of these songs are emblematic of the 70s disco era, and if some of them hadn't been played to death on the radio, they could all have some form of success.
Catchy earworms, can't deny production value and talent, but I'd prefer to not listen to this.
I wonder how I'd feel about this if I had never heard them before. And also if my workplace didn't play a disco-heavy 70s station all the time. Were they groundbreaking? No idea. Are they fun? Sure. Will I ever choose to listen to them again? Nope.
ABBA was unbelievable in the late 1970s - worldwide. This album features Dancing Queen, Money, Money, Money, Knowing Me, Knowing You. Which are all great songs. The rest of the album is catchy and was probably pretty amazing back when it came out. 3.5/5
solid and fun 3.5 dancing queen, knowing me knowing you, arrival, fernando
Memories of my parents and their friends playing cards at the kitchen table. The music of ABBA got a lot of play.
The lyrics to that first song had me cracking up
Abba is fun, and I didn’t realize I was familiar with so many of their songs. However, not my favorite. It all just felt a bit generic. Sue me.
- sounds like ABBA - decent vibes but not really my thing - enjoyable enough to jam to - 2.5 but rounding up cuz it's ABBA
Poppy, unsurprisingly. "Arrival" song was cool, had a bit more of a cinematic feel to it
Not a huge ABBA fan, but some real classic songs on this album
A couple good songs, but overall pretty cheesy and doesn’t flow very well
More ABBA?! I guess they think if I listen to enough ABBA, that infectious Swede pop will infiltrate my brain. It might be working...
So last night my wife was randomly listening to the Mamma Mia sound track, so we both found it hilarious I randomly got ABBA’s album today. Anyways this album is a total guilty pleasure really enjoyable danceable pop, really deserves its place on the list with so many absolutely classic songs, just not my personal taste that I’d listen to it frequently or be requesting it at parties. So a soild 3 stars.
A good album, mostly standalone songs. Ones I know very well and others not so much.
I think I'm more of an ABBA's Greatest Hits ABBA fan and this album has a few of their biggest. Dancing Queen will always bring a smile to my face, how can it not? People who hate ABBA, have you ever experienced joy? Is this high art? Of course not, I doubt it ever aspired to be. Is it candy-coated, bubblegum pop (with some all time hits sprinkled in) that you'd have to be the world's biggest sad sack grump to be annoyed by? That's exactly what it is. Lighten up Francis.
Fav tracks: Dancing Queen, Dum Dum Diddle, Tiger
My first Abba album beyond ABBA Gold. Abba really are a singles band so Gold is the perfect way to enjoy them. This is fine at worst and contains 2 or 3 of the greatest pop songs at best Nothing wrong with this but when I want to listen to ABBA it won’t be an album I reach for - it will be Gold
Poppy and upbeat, hopefully what I can have.
Jag tycker inte att det är så bra, men det är ju bra.
Classics like Dancing Queen, Money, Money, Money, and Fernando. I really enjoyed My Love, My Life as the new listen from the album.
It has high highs and low lows. Some of the all time hits on this album.
2.5 out of 5. Knowing Me, Knowing you, Tiger, That’s Me, and Why Did it Have to be Me are solid tracks but I find the rest to just be bland or cheesy.
Good album, easy to listen to.
Better than I thought and chock full of hits. Unexpected 3 stars.
You know this entire album, even if you've never heard it.
Some classic bangers on here
Pretty great pop music. Definitely a very satisfying listen. Exactly what I expect from the swedes. Tempted to give this a 4 on the back of Dancing Queen alone, but I'm not sure it's there for me. Standouts: When I Kissed The Teacher, Dancing Queen, That's Me, Tiger, Fernando
Love their stuff!!
ABBA was a band I always enjoyed, but more for singular songs than entire albums and I think this shows that too. This was a good album, there were some skips but also it had Dancing Queen and Fernando which are two of the biggest classics. Glad to see this album on the list, but it isn't earth shattering or anything. Nice album to end the week on.
There's no denying that this is very well crafted pop music. Quite enjoyable.
I am a fan of over the top upbeat poppy trash but for some reason I've never quite been seduced by ABBA. The hits are undeniably fun but much of the rest is just too ridiculous.
Great
The hits hit but the non hits do not. Most are non hits unfortunately but the album is saved by the hits. Just not the biggest fan of chanting in general, even if ABBA is better than the bunch when it comes to that. Their songs sometimes have very grating and repetitive choruses, and this album has more than average number of them. Overall, however, it was a pretty good listen as I still enjoy pretty much all other aspects of ABBA songs. Favorite track: Dancing Queen
fun
It's mostly lighthearted fun, obviously "Dancing Queen" is an absolute banger. But definitely weird in modern times with the song "When I kissed the teacher"
probably the best of whatever it is
strange to listen to an abba album that is mostly tracks i haven't heard before. my parents always had them playing a lot in my house when i was a kid, and obviously the films elevate a lot of their music into the public eye too. we all know the classics. so i will say that there's a reason a lot of these songs don't get heard very often when compared to the more popular ones. they just aren't as good imo - if they were good i would probably already be familiar with them. maybe that's a bit circular though. i guess im implying that the dividing line between good abba tracks and bad abba tracks is is whether they have achieved sufficient cultural penetration to be familiar to me, someone who has never felt the need to seek out abba himself. after all, why should i seek out abba when abba will inevitably make its own way to me anyway? that's not really fair though. the majority of these tracks haven't penetrated, but that shouldn't mean they're bad. the album was an enjoyable listen anyway i guess. it's fine. favourite track i had never heard before was Tiger, because i have no idea what it is about but it was a lot of fun lmao. love to be a tiger.
Dancing queen is actually a 10/10. Rest of album is good. I like it. Really a 3.49/5
Fairly entertaining but not really my thing. Might listen again for the title track
Föll av hårt i andra halvan men första halvan e så stacked med bangers att de e helt fine, knowing me knowing you är kanske min favorit av dem, måste tänka på saken

Parabba the Rabba
It was ABBA. It was fun. I preferred the other ABBA album from this list though.
Decent older pop album. Not something I'd seek out but wasn't bad
Not very interesting
This was okay, some of the songs were good, others were not.
ABBA were, in my opinion, the 70s version of bubblegum pop. Mass-produce, bland and mediocre in its quality of lyrics. Nearly 40 years later, my opinion still hasn’t changed, I’m not a great fan of them or their music but I appreciate that I am in the minority. When I compare it to many other 70s groups who lasted through to the 80s and beyond, I feel that it was nostalgic marketing that kept other on the scene, rather than quality of product. At Best 3/5

Put this off for many months. Didn't exactly like it

- Abba's not really my thing but can't deny they have some great tunes - Would rather listen to Abba singles than a full album of them - Some absolute classics that I've heard thousands of times mixed with ones I've never heard before and I can see why - Happy Hawaii is terrible - Fav songs: Knowing Me, Knowing You; Fernando, Dancing Queen
ABBA is a bit of a guilty pleasure for me, probably due to watching Mama Mia with my sisters. There are a handful on this album I like. Dancing Queen, Money (x3), Fernando. The rest just passes like a summer afternoon.
I’ve grown to appreciate ABBA over the years, even if they’re often not my taste. Arrival has some classics on it, but overall I kinda found it less interesting than The Visitors had been
The second coming of abba. A welcome one I won’t lie I mess with the discos and those two just have lovely voices and some awesome chord progressions
Classic
Heard it before?: No but I’ve heard half of the songs on here from compilation albums Enjoy it?: Yes, you know what you’re getting with ABBA and there’s not much deeper to look in and think about, just easy general and enjoyable listening experience Favourite song: Track 2 - Dancing Queen
My parents had this record. While I skipped over a lot of it, Knowing Me, Knowing You is probably my favourite of their songs. It gets three on the basis of that alone.
I heard this album endlessly growing up as my sister was a massive fan...and yet still only recall Knowing Me, Knowing You, Dancing Queen, and one I kinda like Money, Money, Money...so a pretty easy 3 stars right there.
Wow, blast from the past. I've only heard ABBA's greatest hits albums before so it was interesting to hear this album. It wasn't half bad! 3/5
Not bad for a Sunday. Exactly what you'd think.
ABBA was an unusual sound. Great harmony but always sounded forced. Once it was revealed that none of them spoke English it was a bit impressive.
Surprisingly dreamy production and technically impressive. Just not my bag.
I've heard many of the singles, but never experienced "ALBUM ABBA". It's ok, I guess. The teacher song hasn't aged so well. Cringe. Otherwise decent record for this kind of music, which is not my thing.™
Bangers
All the pop. The most pop that pop can be.
Best Song: Dancing Queen. Sure it's a bit much, and it doesn't seem that great when listened to quietly at home through a set of headphones, but that's not what it's meant for. It's meant for the dance floor, a large group, and everyone belting it out together. Worst Song: My Love, My Life. I'm just not here for slow ABBA ballads. Overall: When I fashioned myself an edgy teen, I think I decided that I didn't like ABBA because they were too safe and clean. I'm old enough now to see the error of my ways. It turns out they are safe and clean, but in a good way. It's dance-y, the vocals are harmonious. Honestly, their biggest fault is that they're overplayed, making songs like "Dancing Queen" come off as a bit cliche. Still, it's really just the hits here that still hit, and there is a fair amount of tedium around the middle.
So much pop you'd think it's composed with bubbles. The dancier pop tunes you can't fault, but the ballads... best left alone. There's a reason you know the hits. Best Tracks: Dancing Queen; Knowing Me Knowing You; Money Money Money
3.5
A classic disco album. I enjoyed it on my walk yesterday morning. I am curious to listen to to some more Abba!
It's hard for me to take a group like Abba seriously. Since I was a teen, Abba has been on the airways causing me to cringe, whine, complain and quickly turn the radio station. They have been a part of pop culture and life (in so many ways) since the 70's and believe it or not, they're following and dedicated fans are stronger than ever. For me, I have to admit, they have a certain guilty pleasure aspect to them. I don't cringe anymore, instead I secretly smile and smudgy say, "Oh no, not again! I can't stand Abba!", but really it's a harsh reminder of my fading youth and reminds me why there was so much to hate and love from the 70's. No more Abba!
It's good, of course it is, however, ABBA have so many many great hits that anything that isn't one of them is a bit boring.
Not entirely my style to listen to something like this front to back. Obviously Dancing Queen is a classic, and the songs are beautiful and such.
Who doesnt love fernando
Like the overall sound of the album, the vocalist has a great voice too. The album as a whole is a little weak though. It jumps around with tone and doesn't flow well.
Pretty good over all, decent classic sound 3 outta 5 mics
Not really an ABBA fan, but this was decent.
I've never been a fan of Abba. They do have a couple good songs and I most likely wouldn't turn the channel if any of their radio hits came on. They are for sure to bubblegummy for me. But they have nice harmonies. Well written songs. Not much to fault. Just not into the style.
3.5 stars, Catchy fun pop, a little bit of variation between tracks too, "Dancing Queen" "Fernando" standouts
I like some of the absolute bangers on here, but overall this album bores me a bit.
Full of their hits. Fun little album
I mean its pristine Abba but that isn't really saying much
An odd duck, this. The production is so bright and sugary that my teeth itch. The singing can, at times, harrow. The lowlights - tepid instrumental 'Arrival', 'Dum Dum Diddle' and the terrible 'Happy Hawaii' are some of the worst things I've ever heard. People have wound up at the Hague for less. Yet when they hit their marks - and it tends to be on the biggies like 'Money Money Money', 'Dancing Queen' and the peculiarly Hibernian 'Fernando', they really are excellent songsmiths. The saccharine gives way to the dreamy, and they soar. A pity that those moments are so thinly rationed.
Banger classics. Amazing production for the '70s. Fun songs.
In the 90s a band I was in did a really cool rock guitar version of "Knowing Me, Knowing You" - we butchered the vocal harmonies, alas, but I think we crushed it overall. I mean, it is what it is: it's ABBA: the sound of listening to the rear speakers in my parents' crappy station wagon while the family looked for open gas stations in the 70s. It's fluffy very melodic excellent pop - while it's not my favourite genre, it's still enjoyable and nice (in smaller doses) to listen to on occasion. 6/10 3 stars.
Pretty soothing. I jammed to a few tracks or two.
Actually quite a pleasant listen. I obviously knew the singles but there other nice songs as well.
Passe bra siden eg jobbe med svensk søk om dagen
3.8 - I was expecting a big, fat pop record and this record delivered in spades. I love the beefy production with surprisingly funky bass lines underpinning garlands of female vocals and swells of strings.
bangers on bangers
What was good was great, the rest was crap.
Yes. It has some of the classics, but it’s not my kind of jam
I mean it's super sweet cheesy pop music, I don't love it and I don't hate.. The fact they wrote so many of these songs is impressive.
Just an okay album. No bangers
Pop datado.
Abba
Pop melódico y armónico. Alguna buena canción (dancing Queen) pero el resto muy parecidas entre si
3 1/2, bra popdängor
Was dreading an hour of Abba, but plonked it on when working and to be honest it was just like listening Radio 2 In short, whatever is the opposite to lifechanging.
alvegok
3/5 quite good
My Mum owned this album when I was little so I’ve been familiar with it for a long time. Still stands up as a strong pop record though probably not my favourite ABBA record. Money x3 is a particular highlight but most of my other favourite songs are on other albums
A good example of a singles band who probably shouldn’t make albums.
My wife had said I am not a big "ABBA" fan. And I will admit, it's not the first thing I reach for when I want something to listen to. Having said that, this album is really well-crafted 70s pop. I liked a lot of the feel of some of the songs. Even hearing the 1977 version, with "Fernando," an inescapable song. And "Dancing Queen"... I mean, how can you NOT like that song? Having said THAT, this album is really well-crafted 70s pop. So some of the songs are very dated. Seeing that the first song is called "When I Kissed The Teacher," yikes. The sense of what is acceptable really is different from 50 years ago. "Tiger" is another one that just teeters on the edge of camp. I'm sure they were like "oh, this is going to be a great one." But now it's just... what were you thinking? It's interesting that the album is just over 30 minutes long. Each song is a crafted 3-minute piece, going for that pop kind of classic. Do they all make it? At the time, yes. It's just now some of them seem so... dated. (To be fair, I'm sure of the stuff I listened to as a kid is really dated as well. But I have been listening to it over and over so I do not notice.) So yeah, I am going to take it a bit more off for it sounding so dated. But I guess that's not their fault. They were going for a specific sound that just didn't age well.
I love the movie The Rock. Funny, great action sequences, a plot that is not completely ridiculous (??), good acting for the material. It is a fun movie. As far as action movies go it's a classic but that doesn't make it a classic piece of art. Ditto for this album. Lots of fun, music mixes well with the vocals, and lyrics are not completely drivel (??). I just can't find in the music or the vocals what makes it particularly impressive or what shows great skill. A classic disco or pop album but not a classic piece of art.
Very very 70s disco. The first track, "When I Kissed the Teacher" is 70s cheese of the highest magnitude. Knowing Me, Knowing You is not bad. Sounds like an early version of an 80s power ballad. I liked Dancing Queen (played a billion times, but good song), Why Did It Have to Be Me (decent rocker), and Arrival. The bonus edition has Fernando on it, which is a good track. I'll call it a solid 3. Not bad, good moments, not really my cup o' Swedish tea.
Meh. Very much the enjoyably forgettable one-night stand of albums: Good while it lasted, but no desire to revisit. I have nothing against ABBA, even if their music is a bit high on 70s cheese. That's what is so enjoyable/delightful about them! But I just can't muster a whole lot of enthusiasm for an album mostly comprised of middle-of-the-road tracks. Fave track is actually the title track, but then I've never been a huge fan of ABBA's vocals so I may be biased here. Even so, the title track fucking slaps. And Dancing Queen is still the perfect soundtrack for dancing like no one's watching. Fun, silly, unabashedly cheesy.
not bad
A fun, groovy album. 6/10
This is like a 2 1/2. I'm putting at a 3 just for Dancing Queen. It was all too much, but in small doses very enjoyable.
Never took ABBA seriously. That was a mistake. All tracks have a lot of inventiveness to entertain the music geek. And a couple to keep for good. Just a couple of throwaways.
Noice
Amother flashback to high school! Didn’t realize they were just a 50’s girl group with a disco beat! Now they’ve been ruined by white women drinking too much Chardonnay and dancing to Mamma Mia. There’s a place in my heart for Knowing You, Knowing Me and Fernando. Always liked Money, Money, Money too.
There’s a joyful innocence about ABBA that you don’t hear these days. I enjoyed this album
Good album
If they'd kept the original song titles, this would have been the running order: Rio de Janeiro Boogaloo My Love, My Life Dum Dum Diddle Knowing Me, Knowing You Been And Gone And Done It Coachman's Farm Tiger Fiol The bangers are the bangers, the rest is cacophodisco. Apart from "Coachman's Farm", which apparently only got to live its best life as a single in Japan, and the hair-raising conclusion of the otherwise entirely unmenacing "Tiger".
Dancing Queen I like.
Interesting to listen to the hits in the context of an album, but the singles are what this is really about. Fun, great pop singles, but not a great album.
Ihan hilpeetä rallattelua. Aikoinaan ollut varmasti edelläkviäjä monessakin mielessä joten 2,5 *
Löytyy perushitit, ihan ok
Pure pop with more depth than you'd think. 3
Better than I expected. While I’m not a fan of the band, I understand why so many like it.
Some certified bangers on here, but eventually I zoned out a little. Very pleasant vocals, shimmering instrumentals, nice production that doesn't sound dated at all. Favorite tracks: "Dancing Queen", "Dum Dum Diddle", "Knowing Me, Knowing You"
Thought it would be horrendous...some tracks ok...knowing me..money...Fernando raise to 3 star
Some nice singles, but a whole album of Abba is just too much.
Better than I thought it was gonna be, knew every other song so either amazing album or they just didnt release that many.
"Dancing Queen", "Money, Money, Money". Альбом - квинтэссенция лучшего, за что мы любим ABBA
Didn't enjoy this as much as The Visitors.
this one's another meh-it's-fine album for me. i did rather like when the A*Teens covered the shit out of abba in the late 90s; that felt like a bit of an improvement, to be honest.
meh
Käytännössä lähes jokaisesta biisistä on tullut jonkinlainen klassikko. Juuri tämä onkin itselleni se suurin asia mikä levyssä tökkii - vaikka kappaleet ovat hyviä niin ne ovat myös äärimmäisen puhkisoitettuja. Ehkä itselleni levyn nautinnollisimmat kappaleet olivatkin avausraita When I Kissed The Teacher ja hieman vähemmän kuultu hitti My Love, My Life. Laadukasta musiikkia, mutta pidin enemmän Abban edellisestä levystä listalla.
This is nice. Nothing special, good to know some curiosities on the most famous ABBA album, but nothing more to say.
It's hard not to like Abba. Sure, it's kind of bubblegum music, but they are catchy, well-produced pop songs. Nothing wrong with that. 3 stars.
Classic pop, not my thing
This does feel harsh, but 4 is too much. There's some really good tunes on here, but some of them are just a bit boring to me. Nothing about it stands as an album either, in the sense that it's just a collection of tunes. Good tunes, but not great
Very up and down. There's the songs you know and the songs you don't
I’m not the first to say this, but there’s no reason to listen to this album instead of a “best of ABBA singles” playlist. Dancing Queen, Knowing Me Knowing You, Money Money Money are bops though.
I don’t know it’s ABBA it’s fine.
Went into it ready for a 1 star, as I never really got good vibes off Abba. I still don't, but it has some redeeming features.
Not my genre....obviously; however I was suprised at how much I enjoyed this album. The hits are uniformly very good, though I do wish the arrangements were just a little more edgy but that would be besides the point I suppose. Anyway a solid 3.5 for what it is and the sing-along factor.
Great pop music featuring perhaps the greatest pop song of all time.
Tasty slice of pop pie
Classics interspersed with cheese
A few pop gems, perfect for a Monday
they arrived like disco, all new and fun then left after a day BYE
I really like some songs of the album, but is not my favorite music style.
Favorite: Knowing Me, Knowing You
Pretty good, although Dancing Queen is the obvious standout.
Some jams, but not quite my favorite
Classic.
Just good fun. Way muddier mix than I remembered. This is kind of charming sometimes, but I would have liked to hear the impressive instrumental arrangements a bit better. The stadium guitars that appear every once in a while are pretty funny---but I'm definitely not complaining.
Not my style, but fun. Clearly influential and progressive
Fairly consistent album. Some classic singles and some filler
Relaxing
I mean.. it’s ABBA. Catchy tunes and they sound great even though it’s not my preferred style of music.
Really definitive sound. Vocalization is crazy and quite operatic. Good production quality. Not really my type of music so sounded repetitive after a few songs.
Fucking bops, all around.
Modern pop music would be better if more real drums (and bass and guitar) were involved. This is fun!
Trill lil pop album. Don’t know if I’ll ever listen again though :)
Classic pop album, some enjoyable tracks (more well known ones) though not really my thing.
