Reviews (page 11 of 14)

It has a few dings I've heard before and didn't know it was ABBA. Has more of that sound, and it's interesting to hear it in different configurations. Some songs don't get as dramatic as I'd like.

er abba-maður. skemmtilegt og grípandi popp. 3,5.

When I Kissed the Teacher 3.5 Dancing Queen 4 My Love, My Life 3 Dum Dum Diddle 3.2 Knowing Me, Knowing You 3.4 Money, Money, Money 3.4 That's Me 3.3 Why Did It Have to Be Me? 3.4 Tiger 3.7 Arrival 3.6 Score: 3.45

Fun album. Not my fav type of music, but I can get down to it if needed.

Are they all great songs, no, but the album is fun and would love to have been at the disco listening to this in its prime

I’m torn. There’s good stuff here. There’s bad stuff here. There’s ridiculous series stuff here. It’s almost like disco ELO at times and then other songs are shitty pop from a musical. The lyrics are consistently terrible though. That I’m sure of. Money money money and dancing queen carry the album. Nothing else touches these tunes and dancing queen is timeless

I didn't love it and I didn't hate it. It's interesting to hear the hits in context of the album but in this case that didn't make them better or worse and they were the only stand-outs.

This album was fine. It's an ABBA album. It's not exactly the pinnacle of disco, but at the same time they wrote some great songs 3/4

I mean, I get it!

The hits slap, but I can see why I've never heard some of these tracks.

A legitimately fun album despite my misgivings. Like some other albums on this list, it suffers from overexposure - having heard most, if not all of the songs repeatedly (and pretty much never in situations when I’ve intentionally sought them out), it was hard to approach it with fresh ears and an open mind. It’s a very well-crafted pop album, though, and it’s easy to see why its popularity has endured. Maybe a score of 3 is a little unfair, but I just don’t see myself jumping to listen to this in full again. Favorite tracks: Fernando; Money, Money, Money

[…..and takes deep breath, grits teeth] Abba are really quite good aren’t they. There, I’ve said it. As pop goes it’s ridiculously catchy when they get it right and the singles are bangin. Some filler though and the first track needs a bit of a rethink!

Would have been awesome 40 years ago. It’s fun and lots of bounce to it but it’s just really dated for my taste. Not really my jam

Mamma Mia

Overall, it was just kind of boring. I think I just don’t get ABBA.

73% Best: Dancing Queen, Knowing Me Knowing You Must-Hear? Nah (DQ yes)

Besides the hits, these are some willy wonka ass songs.

I thought I’d hate it. But there are a few bangers on here and even some heady sophisti-pop vibes. There are a few moments that are hard to take and are so polished and manicured they sound like Disney animatronics singing these songs. It’s a sweet vibe and from a songwriting perspective it’s almost scientifically good:)

I know a small handful of ABBA songs, but this will be my first time listening to one of their albums. I don't really have any strong opinions about ABBA, other than that I think the Erasure version of "Take a Chance On Me" is far better than ABBA's version. People seem to be pretty high on this album, so I'm excited to immerse myself in some Scandinavian pop. Musically, this album is pure pop bliss. The arrangements are bright, wonderfully layered, and full of kick-ass harmonies. Theses songs were a blast to listen to, and they're really easy to bop along too. No two songs sounded the same, and each song was fresh and felt really original. The only song that was a total clunker to me was "My Love, My Life," which just wrecked the pace of the album in my opinion. Thankfully it was early enough in the album to where I wasn't able to enjoy the rest of it. As much as I enjoyed this album musically, the lyrics were... not my favorite. No offense to ABBA, but I don't think they're exactly known for great songwriting, and that's pretty evident from this album. The lyrics were pretty nonsensical ("Dum Dum Diddle") and on one occasion, really weird and cringe-worthy ("When I Kissed The Teacher"). Structurally, these songs were pretty bland as well. As much as fun as the music was, these songs never really developed much. I know that might be a bit nitpicky, but I know pop music can be deep and experimental, and this album is very much stuck in its time. Again, this isn't a bad album, but I found it to be just fine overall.

Hmm, some was good but not really for me

Una gran colección de hits

Classic architecture meets pop art

It's ABBA. What is there that anyone can add to the discussion of ABBA and this late date. Back when they were big, I was always pretty indifferent to them, but "Fernando" (from this album) has always been my favorite song of theirs.

ha vergesse dass abba jo immer bitz slappt. when i kissed the teacher isch en weeeirde song vom text her aber s tönt afoch suuper. dancing queen tanzt de grot vo super guete song zu nervig catchy. je noch dem nervter mi oder ich finden suuuper. my love my life isch seeeehr cheesy aber no schön. dum dum diddle isch chli arsch findi. knowing me knowing you het en seeehr coole bass. booooah und de refrain slaaaaappt. jooooo money money money aaaaah banger die lustig synthis jaaa und d giti vergesse gha. riese banger. de song hani scho öfter selber vor mich her gsunge als glost. lohnt sich. that's me hani nonie ghört glaub? isch cool halt sehr abba ich lieb die übermässige chords da chönds. why did it have to be me au nöd e offebarig tiger besser als eye of the tiger aber au nöd sooo geil etz. arrival isch sochli schottisch style type beat? no schöni melodie fernando baut huuuere uuf mit de flötibötis und so. happy hawaii au chli ass. immerno boppig ufgnoh bass isch geil aber jäääh. ah ghört au nöd zum album und fernando au nöd. egal. isch nöch amne vieri aber isch e 3.

Arrival finds ABBA at the height of their melodic powers, crafting polished pop with an almost mechanical precision. The album is filled with shimmering harmonies, lush arrangements, and that unmistakable Swedish pop shine. For all of its craft, though, it can sometimes feel a little too clean: beautiful, but a bit emotionally distant. “Dancing Queen” is the undeniable crown jewel, a perfect slice of pop euphoria that is both regal and irresistibly fun. It is the track that justifies the album’s legendary status. The rest of the songs are solid but don’t always reach the same heights. A few fade into the background, impressive in production but lighter in emotional pull. This album shows ABBA’s brilliance while also highlighting their limitations. It is pristine and expertly made, but that polish can come at the cost of connection. Still, when ABBA hits their stride here, they sound untouchable. Favorite Song: “Dancing Queen”

Vacation style of music. Something you feel like you caught a second of as you’re walking down the street. Love Dancing Queen, but the rest of the album was just alright. Standouts: Dancing Queen, My Love, My Life, and Tiger.

Arrival was a fairly good album. This is mostly the one with a lot of ABBA's biggest songs including stuff like Dancing Queen, Knowing Me, Knowing You and Money, Money, Money and all of those tracks are pretty good. The regular album tracks were a bit more of a mixed bag with high points like Tiger and low points like Dum Dum Diddle. The album did move at just the right length for an album like this. This one is certainly a solid one. Best Song: Money, Money, Money Worst Song: Dum Dum Diddle

Half the songs were good half of them were dog ass

It’s a theatrical cheese fest. This album may have a few undeniable hits, but tracks like, “When I Kissed the Teacher”, “Dum Dum Diddle”, “That’s Me”, “Why Did It Have to Be Me”, and especially “Tiger” send me into a spiral of annoyance, restlessness, and boredom. I enjoy ABBA, or thought I did, but this album seems like a collection of songs pumped out and thrown together as filler for 70s teeny boppers and middle aged squares to tap a foot and sing along to.

Receiving an ABBA album as my first to review was a pleasant surprise. 𝑨𝑹𝑹𝑰𝑽𝑨𝑳 is a bit of a fever dream. I will always have a bit of bias when it comes to ABBA. They hold a special spot in my heart, as they were my Grandfather's favorite band. The overall mood of the album is generally happy. When I listen to songs like "Dancing Queen" or "Fernando" it makes me feel as if I am frolicking in an open grass field with a variety of cute forest creatures such as deer, foxes, squirrels, and docile raccoons. Hair flowing in the summer breeze, and not a car in the world. It's genuinely uplifting. My personal favorite on the album, "Money, Money, Money", stands out as a song that gives me more of a mischevious vibe. I could envision myself robbing a bank to this song, in the most innocent way possible. Dressed in a black and white striped long-sleeved shirt, black stocking cap, black pants, a bandit mask, and carrying an old knapsack over my shoulder that is marked with a large dollar sign, I imagine myself crawling through vents, lowering into the vault via cable and harness, stuffing my sack with righteous dollar bills, then tiptoeing out of the front entrance, leaving a money trail behind me that nobody seems to notice. One song I had never really gave the time of a day to that I became fond of was "Happy Hawaii". The piano and bass riff go very well together. Overall, I'd give this album a 3.1 out of 5 stars. The album cover, which I personally adore, edges this out of the high 2's for me. I can always count on my mood being improved a little after I listen to 𝑨𝑹𝑹𝑰𝑽𝑨𝑳.

Like the first song nothing else.

+: When I Kissed the Teacher, Dancing Queen, My Love, My Life, Money, Money, Money, That's Me, Tiger +-: Why Did It Have to Be Me?, Arrival -: Knowing Me, Knowing You --: Dum Dum Diddle 6,0/10

Fun upbeat songs but wow some of the lyrics are wild.

Better than the first ABBA dabba doo album we had. Dancing Queen and Fernando were really good. I saw poor Fernando didn't make the original cut. What a travesty! I can see how this was big in the 70s ..but in that fateful evening of July 12 1979...disco died a fiery death.

Pretty fun. But - I can’t dock Eminem a star for making me uncomfortable with “Stan,” and then ignore a song called “When I Kissed the Teacher”. This was common enough to be a pop song trope?! What was wrong with everyone?!

Got some good classics, but not my thing.

When I Kissed The Teacher should be retroactively renamed Entrapment: Making a Pedophile.

Some songs are fun but overall it's a 3.4 for me

I'd give it 3.5 if it were an option.

this is pretty fun. I mean, it's disco. But guilty pleasure I guess.

A few good songs, but definitely some filler.

Some definite classics and some other good songs, but a few head scratchers. Overall good

I am not that much into the slowy thing. I guess it is alright. Kind of enjoyed and bored at the same time.

If you've heard ABBA, it's off this album. Upbeat and catchy, just not really my thing.

Good album featuring some great songs like "knowing me, knowing you" and "money, money , money". Especially when you look at it from a musical perspective. The basslines are just perfect. On the other hand, "happy hawaii" and "Dum dum diddle" ruin it for me

When it comes to Abba, I am of the belief that all you really need is, Abba Gold-Greatest Hits. Even that could be trimmed down, they do have some bangers, absolutely they do, they do dance pop really well. Arrival bizarrely starts off with, When I Kissed the Teacher so that’s a weird note to kick off on. Money, Money, Money and Happy Hawaii are a couple fun tracks I hadn’t previously heard. This is a mix of bangers and trash. 2.5 stars

Very fun album that has some staying power due to wedding and events like that. But nothing felt to impactful or groundbreaking.

I totally get why people like ABBA. I’m also not really one of those people.

My wife gives it 4 stars since it’s in her wheelhouse. I would give it 2 so we’ll split the difference. Actually very catchy and poppy album.

Has so many hits.

Can't argue that it's done right. Amazing that this came out after their first greatest hits. Smells like a slightly cloying perfume and the hot vinyl seats in a late 70s family car.

Yep. That's Abba alright.

I didn't enjoy this as much as I thought I would, but it's still a solid album from a classic group. It does feel like a few hits surrounded by some filler, but the filler isn't bad enough to make me zone out. But the bangers bang. Except I don't like Money money money which surprised me, I thought I liked that song? Apparently not. Fav songs: - Dancing Queen - Fernando - Knowing Me, Knowing You

Good, but a bit cheesy. It's ABBA and didn't expect anything else, but man this album had a lot of hits.

Sneeringly dismissed by me when it came out, this has 5 well-known singles and the rest are decent pop songs

Reminded me of my childhood

Hmmm, very much on the fence with this one. Abba are obviously brilliant at their best but I didn't much want to sit through many of the more formulaic, cabaret-style tunes. Maybe just me, for today it's a 3

Best song: Fernando. I’ve heard ABBA enough tho.

Some bangers but also some shit ones soooooo meow

3.5 Steady away

not as good as I thought it would be. The songs that arent the greatest hits are not played for a reason. What is up with kiss the teacher, ick.

Catchy, well crafted songs, not ly go to, but I can see why they are so loved.

Schreckliche Erinnerungen kommen hoch. Aber wie sagt man? Irgendwie ganz ok? Handwerklich gut gemacht? 3 Punkte.

Well construed pop songs but probably could have left a couple of songs off for a tighter album. Not necessarily repetitive but all the songs are similar - you know it’s Abba somehow. I wonder if anyone in the country realm has covered “Why Did It Have To Be Me” - seems like a no brained hit single for someone. And we’ve come a long way from the mid 70s with a song like “When I Kissed The Teacher.” Surprisingly Arrival isn’t the first song on the album, kind of weird somehow.

Decent, fun. Sort of like Tabey said for an earlier album, it feels like I’m at a wedding reception. Fernando.

Maybe a controversial opinion, but I do enjoy ABBA. Solid 70s pop, with of course a disco vibe. I do think a little goes a long way, and sometimes I wish they’d switch up the sound a bit. It’s fun to think of what ABBA could sound like if produced by Brian Eno or Daniel Lanois.

It's fine, if a little boring, but with rare exception, very much not my style.

Viele Hits, die jeder kennt. Aber mieser Sound.

Great opener, energy carries. Not a fan of "Money."

barely a 3. Aside from the popular songs this isn't a great album. 2.5

Fernando almost but didn’t get this to a4

They have some classics for sure, and I know many people are crazy about them, but they aren’t really my preferred flavor of pop.

Part of me wants to appreciate ABBA more. I can see that they're talented, that they bring in a wide range of styles, and they certainly made something unique and far reaching. I get why they're popular but I can also see why some people hate them. It's campy in a serious way, which itself seems a bit ridiculous. It has a very important place in themed parties and wedding receptions. Not so much in my regular rotation I'm afraid.

The hits power the album. The harmonies are on high over top of piano and synths, with touches of electric guitar. The production is great and would have been a gen in true mid-70s.

Do all of their albums sound like soundtracks for a musical?

when i kissed the teacher

Enjoyable mid 80s with dancing queen

This album is pretty much what I thought it would be. I was already familiar with Dancing Queen and Fernando, and the rest of the album is very much the same. It has top notch production, and overall is very nice and makes for a pleasant listen. There is a reason that ABBA tops so many sales and favorites lists. However, it's a little too syrupy sweet for me and not something I see myself coming back to very often.

I've always been partial to a bit of ABBA, they were huge when I was growing up in the 70's. Like most people I know their biggest hits, and let's be fair they have a long list of hits, so I was expecting to find this album full of hits and strong lesser-known songs. I was a little disappointed, there were a handful of well known hits, but the rest of it was pretty boring.

Sænska bomban. Þarna eru slagarar og minna þekkt lög. Ég fílaði þetta alveg þótt ég muni seint kallast ABBA aðdáandi. Kannski þarf ég að vera í sérstöku stuði til að hlusta á ABBA svo það skori hærra en ég er alveg líklegur til að setja þessa plötu á fóninn ef andinn grípur mig.

Guilty pleasure as they say. 4 massive hits on here. Some of the others are a bit wet.

I mean, come on, it's fucking ABBA. the over-the-top, larger-than-life, with the chorus-like vocals, soaring synths, the odd xylophone here and there; it's all great. although I will say, I was worried about trying to get through a full album, but was pleasantly surprised to find a wide range of variety while also keeping a sense of cohesiveness. each song runs between 3 and 4 minutes, averaging at a comfortable 3m30s each, each song takes just enough time to play with its ideas and themes a bit before moving onto the next one. it's pop music, perfected.

Not guite bubblegum, but definitely pop disco.

There are some huge hits on this (Dancing Queen), but it is difficult for me to separate this piece of work from Mamma Mia.

ABBA is really good at making catchy pop melodies, but really not else beyond that. This album more or less embodies that, not that there is anything wrong with that because there is some very fun tracks. "When I Kissed The Teacher" has not aged well at all though lol

The hits are catchy songs for sure, and I think ABBA is pretty well respected even if they are often parodies, right? I honestly thought the production would be better. It's so cheesy and washed out, I don't even know if I like it ironically like I thought I did. Still probably a 3/5 for me. A 4+/5 is something I would put on for my own enjoyment. This isn’t that. Best part is the "ahaaaAH" after the "knowing me, knowing you" line. And the album cover is solid. I just wish I actually liked this. It’s disco but with no soul or funk to it.

Love disco but eating lower cause some of the lyrics are weird

Partly heard before Saved 5/10 Top track: Dancing Queen

Not bad not great, about how I would describe ABBA in general. Some of the songs are a bit boring and dated, while others are all time classics that still hold up today. It's a weird mixed bag because at a surface level all the songs are quite similar.

Really great album , really love the first song ( When I kissed the teacher ) bit im Soo sick and tired of Dancing Queen. Loll

Pretty good, nothing amazing though.

A great moment in time. The music seems so innocent now. And the hooks are memorable.

Pop, 1976 -> 3

fernando valenzuela used to enter baseball games to fernando, 3 stars for that song alone

Their bangers are bangers. Their other stuff, meh.

What an odd choice to open the album with the song I Kissed The Teacher, when there were 2 bonafide hits on it. ABBA's sound is worse and more contrived than I remembered. They were always the musical equivalent of empty carbs, but they were tolerable when I was young. Kinda like eating JuJuBees as an adult, like "what was I thinking?" All that said, the song Knowing Me Knowing You is a great song. My guilty pleasure I guess. I gave it a 3 because, even though it's musically equivalent to JuJuBees, they are just so adorable.

In the words of David St. Hubbins, "it's such a fine line between clever and stupid." Such vapid lyrics and silly pop sounds, but it's nice and it makes me smile and dance in the kitchen. The exact opposite of what I listened to at the time, so I'm happy to listen with fresher ears. Agnetha's voice is beautiful. So operatic.

I mean, it's Abba. The soundtrack of my family roadtrips growing up when my mom had control of the radio.

For me their best stuff is always the sad stuff: winner takes it all, and here, knowing me, knowing you. Not a big fan apart from that (and find dancing queen unlistenable), but there's some obviously great pop here (that doesn't do much for me), and some average filler. A ha.

ugh i couldn’t get Money, Money, Mon-ay out of my head after it came on yesterday. driving to work: “…Money, Money, Mon-ay.” teaching 3rd period: “…Money, Money, Mon-ay.” grading papers before going to sleep: “…Money, Money, Mon-ay.”

There are ABBA bangers, and weird ABBA. This has both.

A classic, but most of it isn’t really my taste.

Some absolute bangers for sure, but the filler slides ABBA into big standard euro pop range.

Really early form of pop, it certainly isn’t rock but I’m amazed to call it pop. It was really good but the middle tracks got a little dry it’s like their singing the same thing over and over Favorite track: dancing queen, Fernando Least favorite: knowing me knowing you 3.6/5

So so disco

3 just bc Dancing Queen is one of the greatest pop songs

This was better than I expected, but I expected it to be a 2.

Un clásico, con canciones que nos sabemos la mayoría aunque no viviésemos la época. Pero no es mi música ahora mismo.

Crazy that all the ABBA songs that I know are on one album currently

I have to admit, I am an Abba fan so this music is not foreign to me. I have heard about half of the songs before. I like this album even though my favorite Abba song, S.O.S., is not on this album

Dancing Queen!

It's not my jam but I can't say it's not great. High 3/low 4.

Legendary.

Yes, now I listened to it one time too often. Thanks.

There are songs here I absolutely love. Joyous, beautifully produced pop music. Timeless! But the other tracks I could have skipped all the way through.

Dancing Queen is an incredible song. The album is decent, but that song is so joyous and freeing. ABBA has had better albums, though.

I mean, it's ABBA

Not a fan of high production m7sic.

5.5/10

ABBA is a decent band, one that encapsulates the disco era of the 1970s. So for as much as I enjoy some of their music, unfortunately their sound never progressed enough to warrant them as one of the greats imo. This album just wasn’t the one to do that. 🥇Fernando 🥈Dancing Queen 🥉 Why did it have to be me? HM: Knowing Me, Knowing you

Classic disco.

Not bad

A good album that is unfortunately let down by not having heard it before you have listened to the famous songs hundreds of times They are timeless classics and the other songs on the album while good aren't. So through no fault of the artist the album doesn't sound as good as it probably is nearly 40 years later

I grew up listening to my parents copy of Abba's greatest hits record so I love the hits from this album (Dancing queen, knowing me, knowing you, and money, money, money) the rest aren't really for me. I am a big fan of the bagpipes in Arrival, though.

Classy 70s pop. They really knew what they were doing. Shame some of this has been borrowed by Partridge as a joke. A couple of fillers - real Saturday Seaside Specials. When I kissed the teacher would be more than a bit suspect these days. But very good for what it is

The first time I ever heard (or remember hearing, at any rate) an ABBA song I was living in Russia. I was driving with someone in a rickety car when Money Money Money came on. I distinctly remember thinking this is the dumbest song I have ever heard, I can't believe someone wrote this, this would never be popular in the US. Obviously I was very wrong on that score, it was just that I had just missed ABBA by a couple of decades (and preceded it by another decade). I came back to the US and my real ABBA education began. I somehow acquired Erasure's ABBA-esque album, which I loved - but didn't yet recognize the connection between it and Money Money Money (or even that ABBA-esque was a cover album). Not long after that the movie Muriel's Wedding came out and it seemed that everyone in the college audience could sing along to the ABBA songs in the soundtrack while I was in the dark. A couple of listens to a best of album soon meant that I could sing along too. I stand by my original opinion about Money Money Money being one of the dumbest songs ever. But overall ABBA is pretty catchy.

Tjah, ABBA.

Clasicos

A cheery affair.

This is 70s Pop at its finest. I always thought of ABBA‘s music as lightweight and kind of annoying, but I have to admit there’s some real catchiness and musical value here. The songs are lightweight and fun for the most part, with dancing Queen, the best of them all by longshot. Had a lot of fun with this album and was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. I’ll have to work on getting rid of the stigma. I have around this in so many other genres, because a lot of times music actually really great! 3 1/half stars for this.

Well it’s abba….

Everybody knows who ABBA is by now, 70's Euro-disco from Sweden. It's cotton candy -- kind of fun and sweet but without much substance to it. As long as you don't expect it to be more than it is, the simple (some might say insipid) upbeat energy is enjoyable for a while (not too long, lest you slip into a diabetic coma). Dancing Queen's fame notwithstanding, I think Fernando is the best song on this record.

Not a fan of ABBA

Pretty decent album. Dancing Queen is the standout track, and the rest is catchy pop with some nice singing.

Hits and void

Удивительно, что заглавный Arrival стоит в конце альбома, хотя мог бы быть, по звучанию и названию, отличным интро. Начинать потенциально популярный альбом песней When I Kissed A Teacher - куда более экспериментальное (скорее странное) решение. Хай хайз, лоу лоуз. Несмотря на ностальгию, мне все еще не понятен статус Money x3. Лучшая песня - Knowing Me, Knowing You.

Pretty good album, some classic songs and some ones I was not familiar with

It sure is Abba.

Went from the weirdest album on the list with Duck Stab by the Residents to the most syrupy pop album on the list. Neither is my cup of tea.

It's ABBA. Never dislike it, never love it. Knowing Me, Knowing You was one I hadn't heard before that I enjoyed

There is now greater appreciation of ABBA as a great pop group and crafters of memorable dancefloor fillers than was the case in the 1970s. This album contains some of their greatest hits and there is no doubt how good songs like Knowing Me, Knowing You are. That said, I was never much of an ABBA fan and I really do not need to hear (or dance to) Dancing Queen again. Fine for ABBA fans but not something I will be rushing out to buy

Enjoyable! I had fun listening to this! Dancing Queen is a bop for sure! I just don't see it being something that enters my regular rotation, but I respect the hell out of it.

The first half was rough, but I dug the second.

iconic, but samey

money x3 and dq r fire, rest were ok. not sure if id relisten

Pretty good. Although the only bangers were the ones I already knew

I love mama Mia!

I’m intimately aware of ABBA having grown up in the 70s while my parents rocked to this. These songs tho many of them are new to me. So great new intro to their discography.

Abba is that kind of one dimensional feel-good music that everybody tolerates but nobody seems to really favor unless they really do. If you listen too closely to the lyrics it starts to get a little uncomfortable.

A few really great tunes, but overall not my favorite album.

Fernando!

* Kissing the teacher??? * Dancing Queen still sounds fantastic * My Love, My Life is a great love song

This album is interesting for sure. I definitely don't think this is one I would've listened to beginning to end on my own. I can't say I'm the BIGGEST ABBA fan, but their music is so soothing and easy to listen to. There is no denying the insane harmonies they're capable of. I am definitely intrigued by the songs that could never fly today, such as the opener "When I Kissed the Teacher." Also, I don't believe I have ever heard an ABBA song with the male singers as the lead, and that was a fun little surprise.

Not as "disco" as I might have thought. Not very strongly to my personal preference, though.

Cheery and lush

"Я думал, будет хорошо, а вышло не очень"(с) Как-то плосковато показалось

Very interesting album, I am from a few decades after this came out so I am only familiar with a few ABBA songs before this. The album gives off the feelings of confidence and happiness even just off the first listen. The highlights for me were the instrumentals throughout, but specifically on Dum Dum Diddle, Arrival, and Fernando. I am not sure why the title track wasn’t the first song on the album but I assume there is a reason eventhough it would be a great intro. I could be the only one who thinks this but the instrumentals on the title track sound similar to a bagpipe which I think sound amazing. Dancing queen will forever and always be a classic. Overall I just don’t think this album is my cup of tea but I do understand the nostalgia and love for this album. 5/10 (first album review :))

Fernando and money, money, money were standouts to me. Sometimes Abba feels repetitive to me but enjoyed the album for the most part.

Not my vibe

ABBA halt, was soll man da sagen?

Not every song on this album was great, but there are some solid tracks. I wasn’t a fan of the ballads but the dancier numbers were a lot of fun. Some real ear worms that I’m not mad about. The bass is a real stand out.

Good fun, I thought I would like it more than I did though.

Syrupy sweet and a bit hokey, but easy to listen to.

fun disco pop, some songs i know incredibly well and some i’ve never heard before. i think this helped my hangover in terms of a morale boost whilst laying on the sofa. favourite song i’d heard before was fernando, best new song i hadn’t heard was tiger.

Some bops, some nots. Not bad, not my typical thing but a couple solid jams.

Decent

This is exactly what I'd expect from an ABBA album, delightful, catchy, twinkly, world famous pop singles supported by a cast of twee, less delightful, less catchy twinkly pop songs. Ratio of hits to fluff is pretty good, probably would've got a four had it not started with When I Kissed The Teacher. 3/5.

I gave up a while ago. Abba is pretty good.

OOOOO time for the slicked up stylings of some Scandos. Honestly, Dancing Queen isn't the single that it should be, and a lot of these songs are overly polished. Tiger has some teeth. Fernando is also good. But honestly, the singles are stronger than the sum of this one's parts.

Cheerful, nice

some classic singles for sure. ABBA is great at making fun, catchy pop songs, but the sequencing and album all together didn't hit for me.

Definitely enjoyed some of these, some not so much

Classic excellence. But I do very much hate listening to abba alone, it is a very flat experience. Also, very sorry to the world but 3 stars feels adequate

It’s got Dancing Queen, so there’s that. I don’t doubt the influence of this album but I didn’t get too into this. It’s just so corny! But it’s not bad. High 3.

I'm not much of an ABBA fan but I can't deny they wrote some of the catchiest pop songs ever made, including several on this record. While the songs themselves are a little "sugary", the vocals and production quality on this album are great. Somehow, I think Dancing Queen will live on forever.

The hits were great, the rest was not. I really don't think the vocals are very good for what is supposed to be a vocally focused group.

# 123 : This album was good, sounds like its full of show tunes, but it has a couple of bangers that are all that foot tapping ABBA music that ABBA is famous for. Favourite Track : Knowing Me, Knowing You Listened : 04/12/2023

Dancing queen is a timeless bop so 3 stars just off of that

They had me dancing but what now?!

Dancing Queen is a fantastic song. There are other decent ones here, but overall it's not my favourite sound.

It’s ABBA. Catchy bubblegum pop. 3 stars

Dancing Queen is a classic. The album is very good, but it didn't do much for me. 3/5.

3/5. Not a bad album by any stretch of the imagination, but not that high up there for me. I give kudos to Dancing Queen and My Love, My Life.

Hela soundet. #1 lite sådär. Varken bra eller dålig. #2 detta är ju en hit, rättmätigt. Den är mycket bra. Texten är lite märklig, "you are a teaser, you turn them on...only seventeen". Bra plan! Eller ragga upp en rik snubbe. Jaja, desperat kanske. Pop ska inte vara så seriös. Men lite får man döma. #7 nej tack #8 nja #9 i am behind you? Ok.

Some killer, some filler. Overall enjoyable but find myself waiting through the lows for the hits

Classic album. I must say I prefer some of their other songs, because of Mamma Mia the movie/musical and just general popularity a lot of these are overplayed to my ears. But for good reason!!

I certainly would have hated this if I was a youth in 1976 but it sounds great today !

Lots of classics that are fun to dance to if drunk, and kinda impressive all from one album, but am not really an abba girly

It's not my cup of tea, but it's not terrible. I wouldn't listen to the whole album again, but if a song from this album appeared on a playlist and my phone was on the other side of the room, I likely wouldn't get it to skip a it.

When I Kissed The Teacher - this song is making me realize that i have never sat and listened to ABBA ever in my life. (1/5 it's giving statutory) dANCING QUEEN - 5/5 i can listen to this song ONCE in a blue moon. feel the beat from the tangerine!!!!! My Love, My Life - they are so Swedish. (3/5 just a slow love song) Dum Dum Diddle - you know what, i appreciate the goofy onomatopoeia. dum dum diddle, ya know? (4/5) Knowing Me, Knowing You - i'm vibing but tbh i'm not really listening. i think this is another band that is just kind of easy listening. (3/5 i'm just not blown away. 2:50 Sims 3 intro?) Money, Money, Money - the prequel to "Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!". i was joking?? i'm low-key impressed with how dark this sounds with this minor key. (4/5 i have not been sold on this song, but i get it) That's Me - still just vibing. enjoying the vibes though (3/5) Why Did It Have To Be Me? - hm. i don't feel this. (2/5 i am not a fan of the like Jukebox Rock sound this kinda has) Tiger - i think i am being threatened (4/5 girlboss of you) Arrival - i really wanted to make a "omg they said the title" joke. 1/5 for ruining my fun actually. Fernando - beach vibes with my boy Fernando (3/5 back to vibing) Happy Hawai'i - hhhhhhh the ASMR type shit going on i'm going to rip my skin off. 1/5 i might not be able to finish this song. jk the waves got quieter. anyway 2/5 for that i kinda feel bad giving this a 3/5. it really wasn't a bad album at all. i had some personal issues with some of the songs but for the most part it was positive vibes so i feel like this should get a pass. it just really isn't my thing. my favorite song by them is Gimme! so i thought i might get some songs like that but i didn't.

Perfectly listenable

Couple of fun songs but I don't typically seek out Abba anymore

70 年代真是朝气蓬勃啊,对生活和爱的热情和希望藏都藏不住。 热闹的编曲和合成器、深情到略显俗气的人声 - "Knowing me knowing you, there's nothing we can do." But it's good to be reminded that a period like this existed in history

Middle of the album better than the start and finish. Progresses okay. Arrival (song) is trippy, but not my kind of instrumental.

It's a classic

Such catchy songs. Wish they weren’t lodged in my brain! Lush production, love the piano, fun disco beats

Some iconic songs

It’s Abba, so you’ll be bouncing in your seat listening to it. Title track and a few others are good. Not something I’d listen to again, appreciate it but not something I’d put into rotation.

Not for me.

Strange contrast between famous ABBA bangers and pretty mid songs. Opposite of how I usually feel about singles in older albums which is interesting.

Hmmmmm...pretty good pop album with some verrrrry strong songs 'Knowing me, knowing you' and 'Money, money, money' but a couple of definite fillers in Dum Dum Diddle or whatever I was called and the Hawaii song. I was 11 when this was released and didn't understand the fuss the and am not sure about it now.

I'm not particularly into ABBA but I've always enjoyed their songs. Listening to this reminded me of being at Uni in a Reflex or PopWorld singing my drunken heart out. It's just catchy pop but high quality pop. I wouldn't listen to it again but I throughly enjoyed it. Highlights: Dancing Queen Knowing Me, Knowing You Money, Money, Money Tiger

I enjoyed listening to this one for the most part though every track feels pretty similar - Arrival was an interesting departure from the rest of the tracks Least fave track: Happy Hawaii

Catchy, danceable, obviously very effective production, but the lyrics don't bear any attention. The fantasies are too insipid to be thought about, and that's a hard constraint to have put on my listening. If a song is playing there's always the risk that I might think about it! But in the right mood at the right time, there's a jingly pop children's-book cheer to these that I'm not immune to.

noh se on abba... olemassa ei ole popimpaa bändiä. jokainen biisi kuulostaa samalta, eli ihan kivalta. kyseenalaustavia lyriikoita riputeltu sinne tänne. ruohtalaisten ylpeys...onneksi olkoon... radiotoistoon luotu...hohhoijjakkaa fernando

Dancing Queen, and Fernando were huge hits off this album. Typical 70s Disco pop music, that was very popular at the time. It seems Money Money Money has also been revied recently due to tik tok. Overall it wasn't a bad album, just not my type of music

7/10 ABBA es música feliz, transmite mucha alegría.

ABBA, geht fast immer…

Paar bängerit ofc, aga uuesti seda albumit kuulata ei jaksaks. Pole minu stiil. Mõni laul oli täiesti uus, mida polnud varem kuulnud. Mõned ikoonilised klaveripartiid ja vägagi tantsitav biit ja tõesti meeldejäävad meloodiad. Mõni laul üllatas! Nt "Tiger" oli kuidagi tabava sõnumiga, üllatavalt eluline. Lemmikud: Dum Dum Diddle, Money Money Money

It's ok

There's a pretty even balance of Abba classics and clunkers that aren't remembered for a reason, but even with its flaws it's a pretty fun album. 3.5/5

Every time I go into a records store, I sh!t you not, I never fail to see a duo of wealthy suburban girls--usually 8th or 9th graders--walking out with an ABBA album in hand. And the best part is that they spend a maximum of five minutes in that store without picking up any other records. I hope they're feeling really good about themselves.

B When I Kissed the Teacher 4 Dancing Queen 5 My Love, My Life 4 Dum Dum Diddle 3 Knowing Me, Knowing You 3 Money, Money, Money 4 That's Me 3 Why Did It Have to Be Me? 2 Tiger 4 Arrival 2 The expectations were sky-high with this one, and I was hoping it could snatch a 4, maybe even a 5. In the end, it didn't quite meet expectations but it introduced me to some more great ABBA.

Naja. Schwache Lyrics In die Jahre gekommenes Mastering Musikalisch interessant Vocals sehr gut gemacht Enge Soundstage

You can’t deny the quality of their hit singles and this has a few of them PLAY YA YA DING DONG!!!

The hits are great, the rest is fine.

Sounds just what you would imagine and ABBA album would sound like.

Best Songs: Dancing Queen, Money,Money,Money, Fernando

Heh niikuin yhtyeen kappale.. ahh..ahh ahh...ahh.... staying objective...staying objective..

Not for me

Ever since I can first recall hearing “adult music”, there has always been ABBA—and even though I didn't know any of the artists' names at the time, they were right there along side Linda Ronstadt, Donovan, Gordon Lightfoot, Bread, Roger Whittaker, and Vangelis. But that experience has always been through individual tracks on a mix tape, on the radio, or through the compilation of a best-of album or, ahem, a certain movie. This album is upbeat, carefree, and not quite disco. There are a couple tracks I'd never heard before, and I really enjoyed the titular track, Arrival—its regal, Gaelic influence stands apart from the rest of the album as brief intermission or something. There are some 4 and 5 star tracks on here that are also some of their biggest hits. While reflecting on why this album may have been included on this list of 1001 albums, let me go back to that earlier description, "not quite disco." It makes me think, "What genre is this?" It's nothing like the folk music of the era. It's not rock and roll like Elvis or the Beetles in the generations before. It's not heavy metal like Black Sabbath, nor is it like the progressive/experimental rock that King Crimson and Genesis were making at the time. It's dance-able, but certainly not Soul, Jazz, Blues, or Country—and it's not funky enough to be Disco. The closest thing I can conclude is that, this is pop music. It's perhaps some of the earliest of the genre that would later assume that name. It's fun to listen to, easy to sing along with and dance to, has regular electronic/synthesizer accompaniment—it's catchy, and it sticks in your head. Overall I don't see myself revisiting this complete album very much—not because there's anything wrong with it though. The issue with an album like this is perhaps how the music around it has matured. It is like that quality, comfortable, old paperback still sitting on your bookshelf: you hang on to it just in case the itch arises to revisit it, but you just never really need to because there are so many more contemporary options available that continue to satisfy.

It's ABBA. Insanely catchy, but not my thing.

Need to document myself on disco music for the musical I'm making so it came right on time. Some tracks are bops and the overall vibe is good but it starts becoming repetitive at some point. 6/10

I don't believe I've ever listened to an album by ABBA before. This sure had some hits.

These guys certainly know how to make a pop song. So many well known songs it was hard to listen to this objectively. I'm going to say Fernando is my fave track as it's been stuck in my head the most.

Oof - a lot of the tracks on this album were massive hits, which is fair enough - they're immaculate pop - but that resulted in them being played to absolute DEATH. 💀 My first play through that didn't bother me too much and I was probably on track to give this a 4, but a second listen and they really started to grate - I've just heard them far too many times against my will to be happy hearing them again. Probably shoulda removed them from the second playthrough and just listened to the ones I was unfamiliar with - ah well, too late now. Fave track - "Tiger", let's say.

alright, only liked a few songs

Dancing Queen is a pop gem that for me holds a special memory, so I'm already predisposed to like this album. Perhaps I'm spoiled by listening to Abba's greatest hits "Gold" album, but my overall reaction to "Arrival" is that it's OK. There are a few solid hits on this album, and I appreciated that the version I listened to had "Fernando" on it, but much just felt like pop filler. And "I Kissed the Teacher" (or whatever it was called) is a bit cringey given current sensibilities. At the end of the day, though, it's ABBA, so it's at least an enjoyable listen, even if I won't be revisiting this album often.

Disco isn't for everyone and this album certainly has its dull moments. But the songs that work well have a good mix of standard disco beats and some euro flair. 3/5 Would listen to the hits.

Pleasant. Never listened to anything from them other than the big hits, but was about as expected.

The hits were outstanding, with Dancing Queen towering above all. The rest was perfectly fine, but nothing that made you move or him.

Not bad, but wont listen again, maybe a few specific songs. "I kissed the teacher" would not pass today because of sexual assulting.

algums hits

Tämä on levy, jota ABBAlta voi suositella. Tasainen ja näyttää kaikki puolet, eli sen mahtavan mukaansatempaavuuden että ihan karsean ärsyttävät rallatukset. Kuulostaa ruotsalaisen musiikin avainteokselta.

ABBA is a band that I feel like you can only really be a fan of if you grew up with their music. Without the nostalgia glasses on, their stuff is super corny and very much of its time. As someone born in the '90s, I for one would never say something like "Hey, I think I'm going to voluntarily listen to an ABBA record today." But then again, if one of their hits came up on shuffle or started playing during a night out, you bet your ass I'd be having a ball. That type of appeal certainly counts for something! Standout tracks are Dancing Queen and Why Did It Have to be Me?.

Some good hits on here, but I'm still amazed people got laid to this.

The money sing is fire!

Hard to meet the Album bar.

Similar to an album like Thriller, where the legendary singles just seem to overshadow the rest of the album. That's not to say that the other songs aren't a decent listen, they're fun and catchy, but after the album is done I spent the next few hours singing Dancing Queen and Knowing Me Knowing You over and over to myself. A greatest hits comp is definitely the best thing for ABBA, but it can't be too bad of an album when a third of the songs are straight up pop classics. Just not something I see myself really going back to.

Abba is one of those bands where I am ideally satisfied with a greatest hits album. When they're great, they're phenomenal, but they're great like 2 or 3 times per album. Put those 2-3 together with a bunch of other top 2 tracks from other records and you have non-stop bangers. Put them together with 10 mediocre tracks and I just wonder why I'm not listening to Abba Gold instead.

Definitely not my wheelhouse. Let's see... I listened to this one in the background while working. I couldn't name you a track outside of Dancing Queen, but I found myself bobbing along quite a bit. Like bluegrass, disco is certainly not my thing, but I can see why people enjoy it and respect it accordingly. Would I go out of my way to listen to this album again? Absolutely not. Would I be miserable if I was roadtripping with someone and their car had a broken radio antenna and this one one of three albums to cycle through repeatedly? No. On account of that, I give this a 3 (leaning towards 4) / 5.

Dancing Queen might be the definition of a bop. Happy Hawaii was a very fun song to end the album. The middle was all good but pretty forgetful

3.4/5 pop

3 for nostalgia alone

Classic dreamy pop from the Swedish 4-piece. Some of the major hits are here, including Dancing Queen, Money Money Money and Fernando. It's fine as background music but didn't excite me much

Top 3 Songs: 1 - Dancing Queen (2) 2 - Money, Money, Money (6) 3 - Fernando (11)

alright album, knew quite a few songs

dancing queen is obviously a monster hit…the rest of the album pales in comparison. some ok songs but it doesn’t even feel cohesive. there’s an even a blues number with that classic generic blues chug hahaha. wow.

I enjoyed this album a lot more than I expected. The production quality is great, the melodies are wonderful, and there are (obviously) some very catchy songs here. It's not my genre, really, but I had more fun with it than I thought I would.

So many big hits on this album, and the rest of the songs are very fun

Que alegría me da siempre ABBA(PSP)

Some hits on here. Overall alright, but definitely fun.

It’s very much 70s pop music, it’s enjoyable, energetic, and fun. Nothing earth shattering, but a fun listen for every once in a while.

Catchy, yet a little forgettable. The dudes in abba should sing more.

Bubbly disco pop. Not something I'd generally listen to, but I see why so many folks love ABBA.

A couple of well known songs. Dancing Queen was the best song on the album. It was alright. I wouldn't listen to the entire thing again though.

The ABBA album with dancing queen on it

I don’t know it was fun overall but I agree, teacher song is weird

Dancing queen and Fernando could earn a 5/5 on their own in my opinion but sadly they were dragged down 2 stars by I Kissed The Teacher 3/5

2 of my favorite songs are on this album but the rest of the bunch didn’t do much for me.

Abban hitit on törkeän hyviä ja ihan jänniä musajuttuja aina mukana myös. Kuitenkin niin umpipoppia, ettei ihan levyinä parhaimmillaan.

most of these songs are emblematic of the 70s disco era, and if some of them hadn't been played to death on the radio, they could all have some form of success.

Catchy earworms, can't deny production value and talent, but I'd prefer to not listen to this.

I wonder how I'd feel about this if I had never heard them before. And also if my workplace didn't play a disco-heavy 70s station all the time. Were they groundbreaking? No idea. Are they fun? Sure. Will I ever choose to listen to them again? Nope.

ABBA was unbelievable in the late 1970s - worldwide. This album features Dancing Queen, Money, Money, Money, Knowing Me, Knowing You. Which are all great songs. The rest of the album is catchy and was probably pretty amazing back when it came out. 3.5/5

solid and fun 3.5 dancing queen, knowing me knowing you, arrival, fernando

Memories of my parents and their friends playing cards at the kitchen table. The music of ABBA got a lot of play.

The lyrics to that first song had me cracking up

Abba is fun, and I didn’t realize I was familiar with so many of their songs. However, not my favorite. It all just felt a bit generic. Sue me.

- sounds like ABBA - decent vibes but not really my thing - enjoyable enough to jam to - 2.5 but rounding up cuz it's ABBA

Poppy, unsurprisingly. "Arrival" song was cool, had a bit more of a cinematic feel to it

Not a huge ABBA fan, but some real classic songs on this album

A couple good songs, but overall pretty cheesy and doesn’t flow very well

More ABBA?! I guess they think if I listen to enough ABBA, that infectious Swede pop will infiltrate my brain. It might be working...

So last night my wife was randomly listening to the Mamma Mia sound track, so we both found it hilarious I randomly got ABBA’s album today. Anyways this album is a total guilty pleasure really enjoyable danceable pop, really deserves its place on the list with so many absolutely classic songs, just not my personal taste that I’d listen to it frequently or be requesting it at parties. So a soild 3 stars.

A good album, mostly standalone songs. Ones I know very well and others not so much.

I think I'm more of an ABBA's Greatest Hits ABBA fan and this album has a few of their biggest. Dancing Queen will always bring a smile to my face, how can it not? People who hate ABBA, have you ever experienced joy? Is this high art? Of course not, I doubt it ever aspired to be. Is it candy-coated, bubblegum pop (with some all time hits sprinkled in) that you'd have to be the world's biggest sad sack grump to be annoyed by? That's exactly what it is. Lighten up Francis.

Fav tracks: Dancing Queen, Dum Dum Diddle, Tiger

My first Abba album beyond ABBA Gold. Abba really are a singles band so Gold is the perfect way to enjoy them. This is fine at worst and contains 2 or 3 of the greatest pop songs at best Nothing wrong with this but when I want to listen to ABBA it won’t be an album I reach for - it will be Gold

Poppy and upbeat, hopefully what I can have.

Jag tycker inte att det är så bra, men det är ju bra.

Classics like Dancing Queen, Money, Money, Money, and Fernando. I really enjoyed My Love, My Life as the new listen from the album.

It has high highs and low lows. Some of the all time hits on this album.

2.5 out of 5. Knowing Me, Knowing you, Tiger, That’s Me, and Why Did it Have to be Me are solid tracks but I find the rest to just be bland or cheesy.

Good album, easy to listen to.

Better than I thought and chock full of hits. Unexpected 3 stars.

You know this entire album, even if you've never heard it.

Some classic bangers on here

Pretty great pop music. Definitely a very satisfying listen. Exactly what I expect from the swedes. Tempted to give this a 4 on the back of Dancing Queen alone, but I'm not sure it's there for me. Standouts: When I Kissed The Teacher, Dancing Queen, That's Me, Tiger, Fernando
