Reviews (page 13 of 14)

Made me feel like I was in some American bar!

Not my style, although it is a very good album to have on in the background

Good but you know

van morrison's voice is cool. there's an appeal there. I would throw on this album for fun. But i wouldn't notice it much. and i might be annoyed if like, the song moondance comes on. so, it's fine in the background.

jazzet rock album, god stemning, gladt album

I loved the title track, but the rest of the album was okay for me

Quite nice, nothing really stuck with me. I was expecting something very different, I think I was confusing Van Halen with Van Morrison

Lots of classics on here that, of course, I've already heard because they play on the radio. Overall a "good vibes" album, a little too easy-listening, and I can only take his voice for so long. Not a bad album though. 3.5/5 or 7/10 Highlights: Crazy Love Into the Mystic Glad Tidings

Folk. Rock suave.

Liked the title track, everything else was eh

This is the sort of album where the guy is obviously very talented and I can easily understand why somebody would say "I love Van Morisson, 'Moondance' is one of my favorite albums" but it just doesn't speak to me. Aside from the title track (a wonderfully sung jazzy little number), nothing on this album really captured my imagination.

Some classic tunes. Great bass playing. Mostly the tracks all do something different. But Van Morrison’s vocals don’t live up to the rest of the group for me.

Great album. Easy listening

It was pleasant enough, although I really don’t like the track Moondance

Eh. I am not mad at the album. Wasn't a waste of time but Not really my thing. Might get another listen or two. But I don't see it growing on me anymore than it already could have.

Moondance was an alright album. I like it. I'm not crazy about it but I like it.

Too little variety

Not my favorite ever, but solid.

very pleasant. was considering a 4 until I realized the album ended and it had moved on to playing similar hits from that period.

Not a big Van fan but there is no doubting he had a good run circa Astral Weeks through to St. Dom’s preview. Moon dance falls right in the middle of that period and is perhaps his most accessible album, it’s enjoyable when in the mood.

It’s Van Morrison. Decent, but nothing to write home about

11th June 2021 Listened in the garden while re-sowing the lawn. Sadly had to miss going down to Brighton for Ben's stag cos of jen's covid, but found out I've got the job at the financial Times and it was the opening of the Euros which was amazing! I think I'd really like this album if I listened to it a few times, I like the combination of jazz and soft rock and van Morrison is clearly a troubled legend. 3.5 if I could

Not particularly my thing but not bad per say. Another nice look at the music landscape of the 70s.

3/5 niceish album, but didn't make the click

Ernsthafter Typ aufm Cover, ernsthafte Musik unterm Cover.

Country usa blablabla

“Moondance” is always a classic. The rest of the album not so much.

Good but won't get a run at BH

The song Moondance is one of those songs I’ve heard a million times, but not really appreciated. And come on, It has an exceptional melody. Crazy to think someone wrote that from nothing. Pretty cruisy album all up. Glad Tidings very much like Brown Eyed Girl

Another great classic for which I wouldn't always be in the mood. Perhaps to leave it playing in the background, but this is not the type of music that draws me in to active listening.

GREAT ALBUM

the last song is literally a rip off of brown eyed girl

Quite alright. I might have been a little too harsh on Astral Weeks which I got at the beginning of this journey. Having a little more perspective changes a lot.

Old school 70’s album. Good sounds. Enjoyed it.

For me, this album fits right into the category 'Not offensive but not really interesting'. I know this kind of blues songwriter thing is really deep for some people and it is my failing that I don't know the genre well enough to be moved by it.

Classic record. I’ve heard this one a bunch in my life, it’s kind of jazz/pop.

nice sounds, but kind of boring

Perfectly nice folky, bluesy rock. Great vocals. Really liked Into The Mystic, but overall just a bit boring and unremarkable for my taste.

Okay achtergrondmuziekje

A surprise for me. Listening to this at 5:10am on New Years' day 2021. Real enjoyed this album of foot tapping stuff, in places, with soulful poetry in others. Rating high 3s but will keep as a 3 star out of 5.

Some nice stuff here.

Didn't realize this is where the song "Moondance" is from. Makes sense. Haven't generally listened to much Van Morrison. Good R&B/soft rock sort of Stuff. Definitely worth listening to more.

It's fine. Maybe a little one note, or maybe Van Morrison's voice is so distinct that it feels one note due to that. "Moondance" is still a killer song. Shame VM is a shithead in real life. Favorite tracks: "Moondance", "And It Stoned Me"

Hm. Hmmm??? It was fine, not sure if I'd listen again.

Älskar And It Stoned Me. Första halvan är bra men sen tröttnar man lite.

The title track is fine, but I don't know about the rest of Moondance.

Some songs are great. Most were boring.

I was quite literally falling asleep while listening to this. Maybe I didn’t get enough sleep last night, maybe it’s a very boring album. Who knows?

Inoffensive and boomerific …. Bits of R&B and jazz conveniently separated from all the politics of the era. So dull

Why am I so bored?

smells like white wine fumes

elevator music

its like country and rnb, not a fan either:(

Yet again another album that didn't trigger any memories. It wasn't boring but it never succeded in catching my attention.

Van snoozeson. As dull as dishwater!

A wee bit better than the previous Van Morrison album I had on here (Astral Weeks)

A bit too American / old man music for me but can see why people would like it. Made me sleepy though.

album #109 moondance and crazy love are nice, but this is quite a bland album. very beige. ꩜ average track rating: 2.2/5 ꩜ favourite track(s): moondance, crazy love ꩜ least favourite track(s): come running ꩜ album rating: ★★☆☆☆ ꩜ number of albums left to review: 980 ꩜ number of albums from the list that i agree with being on the list: 51 ꩜ albums from the list that I would consider on my list: 22 ꩜ albums from the list I won't include on my list: 87

Smooth, a bit simple. Not my type of music.

After the commercial failure of Astral Weeks, Van Morrison retreated to a mountaintop in the Catskills with his wife, moved in next door to Bob Dylan, and wrote Moondance in the woods while allegedly finding himself. The album cover was carefully framed by photographer Elliot Landy to hide a large pimple on Morrison's forehead. This is the most relatable thing Van Morrison has ever done and it has been downhill personally ever since. He recorded the entire album without musical charts, working purely from basic song structures in his head and relying on band spontaneity to fill in the rest. Moondance the song was not released as a single until 1977, seven years after the album came out, yet became one of his signature songs through sheer radio saturation alone. Into the Mystic was written in a single burst of inspiration and is genuinely one of the most beautiful things he ever recorded. Caravan is the third classic on an album that runs out of classics approximately halfway through and then repeats the same jazzy blue eyed soul groove with diminishing returns until everyone politely agrees it is over. In 2020, Van Morrison released protest songs calling COVID lockdowns fascist, performed at anti-lockdown rallies, and collaborated with Eric Clapton, our series benchmark for problematic artist behavior, on one of these songs. Two legends, one bad idea, zero self awareness. The Clapton Coefficient applies and it applies firmly. The 24 year old who made this album in a Catskills cabin deserved better than the 75 year old he became. Unfortunately they share a discography and a star rating. 2 out of 5. One star for Moondance and Into the Mystic, which are timeless and blameless. One star for hiding the pimple, which showed rare good judgment. The remaining three stars are on a mountaintop in the Catskills, wondering where it all went wrong.

played this on the saxophone once awful experience

Is that WWE's Shaemus on the cover? The only thing I know about van Morrison is that they are big, yellow and green and carry food and fluids. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) *** Easy listening acoustic folk. I need to get on my horse and ride. Piano melody is lovely. Bendy guitar solo - sick. Wait, he's from Norn Iron? Why so American? 2) ** Bassline - lets go. Hey where did Buble come from? Oh I know this. Wedding music. Love the flute - who let Jethro* in the wedding ;). OBLIGATORY SAX SOLO. 3) * Breathy, soppy attempt at soul singing. Nah. There's infinite original soul artists that made songs like this. 4) **** Now we back in the wilderness. I'm glad the piano is back. I can get behind these more folky arrangements. The yellow Tellytubby must be his favourite. The rest is nice. 5) ** Please go back on the caravan. Meh. Nothing wrong with this. 6) ** More white boy soul. Dig the bongos! 7) ** YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE HAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWW. Sax solo to save the track. I can't shake the feeling he's impersonating/rehashing the artists of his youth. Organ lifts it too. Bloody love an organ. 8. I forgot. 9. Was that a harpsichord? Actual 5* just for inclusion of the most whimsy instrument (bar maybe the hurdy hurdy). 10. * What came first, this or brown eyed girl? It slips into the same guitar lick and has the La's. Verdict: Easy listening, fine in the background. A couple of tracks I liked, several I couldn't care for and a couple I'd avoid. I really don't like his white boy soul tracks. The folky/piano driven numbers have a good energy for the most part and some fun instrumentals including flute, organ and possibly a harpsichord? Probably won't return. ** -------------- * I know Jethro Tull isn't a person. Don't worry.

van morrison is a bit of a joke to me and this albums too repetitive but i admire the effort

It was ok. I like Moondance but everything else was just fine

Look, I’m not huge on Van Morrison, he writes some good music, but I just don’t click with it. You don’t need to love everything, and you might enjoy it more than me. Give it a go if you must, and maybe it’ll click

The same criticism levied at Van Morrison after listening to Astral sweeps stands. His voice does not endear me to the music and tends to bellow each line out which I’m not fond of at all. Moondance is the same but with jazzier additions made to it - only it’s the bad kind of musak that jazz gets a bad rap for.

It was ok I guess

You can have too much Van Morrison in your life. In fact it's quite easy to hit that limit. I'll be fair to say I agree it's an album for the 1001 list, but I just don't like it, and I haven't liked them over the past 30 years where I've tried to see what the fuss is about. I'll leave it for others, thank you.

not really my thing. the tunes are nice but i didn't love the voice

A bit boring for my taste

7/3/26. Probably need to listen again. Solid songs and Morrison has a unique voice, but thought it was predictable and a little boring.

I'm just not a Van Morrison fan--Moondance is too overplayed, I guess--but I did like some of the horn arrangements on this.

This wasn't really doing much for me - quite boring to be honest. Not something I gravitate towards and this hasn't really changed my mind. Feels like the sound track to a film your dad would put on a Sunday.

Last time a Van Morrison album appeared on this list, it was so long I was facilating between despondent and homicidal by the time it finished. This album at a nice, sensible 38 minutes gave me more hope. Moondance is great song that I mostly knew from Barenaked Ladies singing it as an interlude in a version of The King Of Bedside Manor recorded in a bathroom. It's weird how you sometimes end up discovering songs through very non-standard pathways. I really liked Come Running. I really didn't like Everyone (too pan pipey). Glad Tidings kept morphing into Brown Eyed Girl. Ultimately this evens out to "it's fine" for me. So... 2/5

10 songs Some pretty decent Club Penguin pizza parlor or coffee shop songs in here. Other than that, not much

Fine I guess

I had mixed emotions with this album, between songs there are many changes in style, from country folk, through jazz and even rhythms similar to chamame (genre of native Argentine northern music). So I couldn't decipher the artist's style well, I didn't quite buy into any of his different facets throughout the album. it's a 2 for me this time.

It’s obviously not bad but not my thing. I could only listen as background music. Almost too easy to listen to and unfortunately does nothing for me.

he look like how i look/5

Algumas músicas maneiras mas nada me impressionou

I mean, it was okay. I'm just not a huge fan of his, never have been.

Fine, idk what all the hype is about really, 2.5

Caught myself checking the track list multiple times to see when this ends. Honestly did nothing for me. I can't really point to any specifics or songs that spoke to me in anyway. It's all fine, it's all competent, it's not terrible, but this just kind of exists and little else.

I get he's a big deal, but all of this album sounds like the happy music you try to play at funerals.

Heard the first song & thought “maybe this is fine?” Moondance is a bottom of the barrel song.

Van Morrison perfected a signature sound. I don’t want to hear it more than once

Despite never knowingly have heard this album I knew more songs than I expected, which I guess speaks highly to how influential this album is. It also says something about how even though I sort of know this music I’ve never felt particularly compelled to dig any deeper. I know Van Morrison is supposed to be one of these all-time greats and I can appreciate the songwriting and musicianship on here, but also it doesn’t do anything for me. Meh.

Felt pretty uneventful but I do like the title track which I have heard before.

Best Song: Moondance. It is weird to listen to an original song and think, "this song is quite nice, but I bet there are covers that exceed this". Worst Song: Everyone. It just sounds like he's shouting the whole time. Overall: Boy howdy do I not like how Van Morrison sings. He sings like he's also simultaneously trying to stick his tongue out of his mouth during sustained notes. Some of the arrangements are fine, but get a different guy in there.

Fine but outside on 1 song nothing memorable

Here’s my hot take: this album would be better without Van Morrison. I guess he can sing but he grates on my nerves.

To be honest, this is my first time listening to an album like this. This album and the songs on it definitely won't be my favorites, but that's not a bad thing

Quite underwhelming, I just don’t get why it’s on this list. It’s listenable but that’s about it

another boring one. not like awful but i wanted to change it several times..

- it was fine - everyone brought this done a rating for me 🙈 did NOT like that song - not my style of music I don’t think

This just didn't do anything for me at all. I suppose a couple of the tunes are noteworthy but I just can't get into it.

Didn’t do much for me. Very folky, that one song with the vocalised drums was quite interesting but I found it very same-y.

Snoozer

2nd Van Morrison album from the generator. Gotta say, this one is better than the other one I listened to. I actually enjoyed some songs here. It's just a small improvement though 2/5

Thoroughly boring album. Vocals were kinda good and the instrumentation was just okay. Favorite Track: Moondance - I almost gave this album a 3 solely due to the saxophone, especially due to this song.

producer: hey Van, loved the last record, you gonna give us one that's kind of like Madame George or Sweet Thing? Van: no actually, every song on this one is gonna sound like the worst song on that record producer: right Van: there's one where i say that it's a fantabulous night to make romance producer: huh, okay, well.....what about your voice, then. will you be wrapping it round your allusive, narratively rich lyrics with a real sense of dynamics and a strong connection with your band? Van: well, there's one quiet tune. otherwise really just yelling producer: ......yelling? Van: aye. about sex and lines of trucks producer: great. people, inexplicably, are going to love this Van: i don't care about that at all. they put a microchip in the jab, you know? and the jab comes out of your smartphone

Not my cup of tea. Too much folk for my taste. The title track is very good, and the sax in Come Running was very enjoyable. The instrumental arrangements in some of the tracks, such as Everyone, are worthy of highlight. Glad Tidings was a great finisher and a refreshing reminder of the album's message. All in all, however, I found it quite repetitive.

Ok as background music

not good mr. morrison

Not bad, a little boring tho

Want bad but I wouldn't revisit

didn't listen to this one

This album will probably stone me more than the other The first song already looks promising to me, sounds like he cares about the lyrics and also the instrumental(not saying that AC does not) Moondance got because i thouhght it would be a country album especially because the cover looks country and ZOEYS A very lovey album. I thinks i´ve listened to somenthing similar to Crazy Love, but Van voice is just so deep? Idk, but crazy love is a pretty love song Then the fourth song his voice comes back to normal Will all the songs be about love? But caravan is a good song I think i prefer Artic than this type of songs Into the mystic is bom(although i cannot complain about the instrumental) I feel like i´m listening to something from the 50s (these dreams of you) Love the feeling from a brand new day The flute is the charm in everyone Glad tidings made me realise the emotion he puts and, again, the instrumentals i feel bad for not enyoing this one, but the instrumental is very good and he is a very good singer

The man has dreadful views and his music is pretty dull. Nearly fell asleep.

boring

never judge a book by its cover

Rock’n’roll 🤘

boring

Well I groaned when I saw it was Van Morrison as later stuff I’ve heard is dreadful but actually this not too bad. But I won’t listen to it again!

Softest Rock.

Uff. Nothing more to say

This is gonna upset my brother, but whatever... Van Morrison is the single most overrated singer to come out of the 60s. I have tried so many times and it simply doesn't work. Sorry.

Old man music. I didn’t mind the instrumental but I think his voice and lyrics were mid.

Guessed this might not be my cup of tea, and I was right. Not terrible, but washed over me without leaving an impression

didn't faze me

Didn't get get into it, but And It Stoned Me and Brand New Day did connect to me. Deserve another hearing. Fav. Track: And It Stoned Me

booooring.

Aburrido de pelotas

I believe this was my first time listening to Van Morrison. And I didn't particularly liked it.

Brown eyed Girl shalalalaaa. Tämä tulee mieleen

2 not bad, not my cup of tea though, fav song off the album is everyone

musica de viejo gringo republicano

This might be because I'm stupid but I forgot everything about the album immediately after listening to it. Review is impossible

It didnt impress me, it have some nice songs but rest of them sounds like fillers. 5/10

Average

had not previously heard 10 tracks 1: "and it stoned me" listenable but didn't save it, reminds me if bob dylan was talentless 2: "moondance" have heard it before one of the few songs along with brown eyes girl that reached my parents minds, not awful but still something so flat and talentless like this van morrison guy never really went through the struggle, Ha googled it he's northern irish and was against the literal troubles 3. "crazy love" I like the background vocals, still such boring flatness im trying to not have bias perhaps its this 2013 remaster but I can't believe this guy's ever had "crazy love" at least not in the same way anyone else has 4. "Caravan" finally a good intro but leads to somwhat lackluster song "enter sandman syndrome" I like the la la la chorus, again he is writing way out of his element lyrically for a irish new yorker with a record deal, best song so far 5. "into the mystic" god I hate his voice its the same squeal no matter the line and the stupid echo on every song is so annoying, this guy has really good musicians and is squandering it, whatever song its fine 6. "come running" somewhat more upbeat song, same vocal problems, same great band, same song as the other 5 practically 7. "these dreams of you" same same, would have hated to be in the recording booth for these, blaxploitation at its finest on this track, this is the shit YOOOo this is the shit the vampire from sinners woulda been in the booth making 30 years later if he lived 8. "brand new day" nothing new here very on brand 9. "Everyone" god this band fucking rules get this retard out of here 10. "glad tidings" more of the same hate the clapping a lot, I bet it was van's idea, wtf why is this basically brown eyed girl overall: 2/5 terrible terrible start to this challenge hopefully its not completely full of boring garbage like this

70s zzz....zzz....zzz...

Fairly dull. One standout single, and a few similar sounding songs. And the final track is just a copy of brown eyed girl. Nothing of any great note here. Alright in the background.

Nicht mein Ding

It was alright, did not interest me. Just not my genre

got bored pretty quickly, not a fan of his vocals

While I enjoyed the guitar work and somewhat enjoyed the vocals I personally didn't find much else in this album. But I definitely do see some great elements in here that form this beautifully arranged and sort of sentimental album. 4.5/10, Favorite Song: Crazy Love

A lot of this sounded vaguely familiar but not in the way that means I’d heard it before, just it was really generic.

There's something about Van Morrison's voice that grates on me, so I really just don't like this.

I didn't realize Moondance was Van Morrison.

Don't like whatever that was

Good singer, but not my preference for music. I can understand his appeal. I really liked "Everyone". 2.75/5

country boy i love youuuu

It's kind of good, but totally not my genre. I also don't really enjoy his voice. The arrangement in some of the songs is cool, I like that it takes a bit from Jazz. The one I enjoyed most is "Into the Mystic".

Warm, easygoing grooves built from gently swinging rhythms, supple bass lines, brushed drums, light piano touches, and softly glowing horn accents, with vocals delivered in a relaxed, conversational croon, move this folk-jazz album like an evening stroll that never quite leads anywhere—pleasant at first, but so smooth and unchallenging that it quickly settles into boredom.

Moondance and Crazy Love give false hope for a dull album. Could wait for it to finish.

decennnt idk kinda like sadish might revisit cuz highkey did mot finish

I knew the title track before. I like that one, album's kinda dull otherwise

A bit meh bar the odd track, maybe I'll enjoy Astral Weeks more

Good music, Van’s singing style gets a bit repetitive and it’s hard for me to separate the art from the artist in this case.

Love that his voice is kind of thin and reedy. If it weren't for that it'd all slip down a bit too easy. Moondance is a great tune though.

It sounds like chewing paper tastes like

I can't bring myself to find this more than just okay, borderline superfluous even. it's a perfectly serviceable blend of jazz, R&B, pop and folk music from blue-eyed soul singer and future conspiracy theorist Van Morrison. to me, there's nothing new really being brought to the table here. this move towards extreme accessibility seems, to me, like a cowardly retreat from the far more ambitious sound of Astral Weeks. I get that this was the album that launched his career as a mainstream star, but I was pretty bored by it nevertheless. also, what was with white musicians in the seventies constantly alluding to Romani people as some sort of clumsy, racist metaphor for free-spiritedness and spiritual mumbo-jumbo? the constant cringe of Morrison alluding to "g*psies" in one way or another pulls my rating here down a full point. strong 4/10.

If I were to compare it with American Pie it would be slightly worse because there isn't a highlight like the title track, still good album, just unremarkable.

Into the mystics one of my favorite songs ever

Not my thing.

don’t remember much about it tbh but i didn’t have alot of time to listen

From Wiki: "I had to forget about the artistic thing because it didn't make sense on a practical level. One has to live." What a slap against his own work and his „consumers“. Lol. But yes, album is pretty boring.

Not for me 2

I really, really hate Van Morrison. And I cannot abide the title track here. Come Running and These Dreams of You weren't too bad, though.

Boring hippy music from a antivax prot

Hippy dippy dad rock with one or two hits but overall it's just not that cool.

Let's keep in mind that art is subjective. Van Morrison grinds my gears. Collosal douchebag, makes music you hear at Starbucks. The only good thing about this album is that we're not subjected to Brown Eyed Girl for the millionth time.

This is the most boring music to me I'm sorry

Not really for me

Soul and RnB meets soft rock, stolen and rebranded for blander palates. It's workman-like, which is to say it sounds polished but unremarkable. Oof.

Not particularly my cup of tea. Pretty easy listening though, would be ok to have on in the background.

longest 38 minutes of my life

Forgettableeee

2.5 probably? Sometimes his voice is eh. In general it's a good time and not too long. Maybe 3 on a good day?

I need to think about the vocals here. The compositions are good, his cadence works but his voice just kind of falls flat for me. It's like he has tiny lungs or something. Some great songs.

Wait a second... none of these songs are "Brown Eyed Girl".

The doors albums were better

Zzzzzzz Nota: 2.4

Alright

Meh, not a huge fan

I was mildly underwhelmed by this album. It had really pretty production and the sound throughout the album is so refined. I just found it to be alittle too slow for me, as whole I was kinda bored, but Moondance is an all time great song! I just think the album is just ok.

Every dang song was the same

Cool, maybe not really my kind of stuff

I could probably listen to Van Morrison just scatting and find it nourishing. His voice is a sufficient stand-in for a narrative thread to tie everything together. My parents have the Best of Van Morrison and unsurprisingly it's an excellent greatest hits compilation. Sweet Thing, Queen of the Slipstream, and Cleaning Windows are my all-time favorite songs of his, and it turns out they are all on different albums, none of them Moondance. But really—and I know it's not in the spirit of this listening project—go listen to the Best of... There may not be time to listen to all of his albums individually...

yeah fine, it didn’t grip me particularly. Fully expected the last song to go into brown eyed girl lol

#125/1001. An album to chill out in the middle of grunge, metal, industrial and mod/garage rock. Didn't really know to much about Van Morrison beforehand, not a big name in Finland I guess. Will I knew the name and was expecting something like what was delivered. A few fun and surprising songs (the title song for example), somehow I felt his time had been and gone, he had done his share of influencing other artists, and the demand for this music or album is not really needed anymore. I didn't really like the mix either, many songs had instruments just above hearing threshold level, perhaps contributing to the sound, but somehow annoying to try to pick up if is there a piano or hammond there or not.might be worth a revisit, but somehow I feel more like this will be on the list. I prefer my singer-songwriters with a bit less honky tonk, thanks.

This is something Austin Powers would listen to if he were a cowboy.

Fine. That’s about all I have to say. There’s one song that was really groovy but the drummer does some weird backbeat thing, truly baffling and completely ruined the song.

It’s probably unnecessary to dislike this as much as I do, cause it’s meant to be easy listening. But this feels like the band that plays at a minor league baseball game in your hometown from bumfuck, nowhere. Everyone there is settled with a family, and they are together swaying gently, but deep down thinking, “do these guys know how to play in any key other than G major?”

I find the band to be more interesting to listen to than Van himself. The singles I'm aware of vary from "overplayed and kind of tired" to "unsung and deservant of more play." The other tracks are just kind of middling, and again, the band is more compelling to listen to.

Nice 70s piano vibes.

There is definitely some gems behind it but it was just not hitting right for me. To be fair after Aha, Oasis, the white stripes and Tracy Chapman it falls a bit flat. But i will say moon dance is an amazing jazz swing song

Album 4/1001 Can't say my interest in VM has ever extended beyond Brown Eyed Girl but there were a few songs on here I did enjoy. Found it a bit shouty and repetitive after a while, and have a strong dislike of the title track, but really enjoyed Crazy Love - perhaps because it's the least shouty? And I know all British artists were trying to sound American during this era so I don't know if it's because he leans into it too much or something, but for me his sound comes across as inauthentic and derivative. Favourite song: Crazy Love🤪💖 Honourable mention: Brand New Day 🌄 Into the Mystic ➡️🌌 2 ½ / 5

Another meh album from this shitbag. 3/10

This album always reminds me of Fat Freddy's pizzeria back in the early 90s. Someone who worked there played this album on repeat. So, in my head, that's what this is: inoffensive background music. I know I'm in the minority, but I could never appreciate Van Morrison, no matter how much I tried. I can understand that these are decent songs, the musicianship is good, and his voice is what it is, but it all feels very "beige" to me. On the plus side, relistening to this now in my old age, I did very much enjoy "And it stoned me" and the higher energy parts (like the end of the song "Moondance"). But the rest of the album remains as inoffensive background music in a pizzeria to my ears.

Everything sounds like brown eyed girl.

Sounded like beige wallpaper. Not bad, not painful, just aggressively fine.

Not sure that I'm a VM fan really, other than the familiar stuff it's all a bit...rubbish?

There are some really great songs on this record. Also a lot of mildly-decent-at-best. And what with Van Morrison being kind of a twat, I'm not feeling super generous. Two stars. The saxophone was nice until it wasn't. Fave songs: - And It Stoned Me - Moondance - Crazy Love - Into the Mystic

easy listening

It’s okay, wouldn’t listen to it out of free will.

Couldn't really get into it. Monndance is good but not that good and not enough to hold it

I sure did listen to Moondance by Van Morrison for thirty-eight minutes and fifty-four seconds. It was okay

I can tell there's some heartfelt material here, but outside of some nice instrumental passages the record feels very bland overall. Unluckily for Van Morrison, it also happened to show up on this list right after Court and Spark -- where by pure RNG, Joni Mitchell mogs this man with more variety, sharper instrumentals, harder cover art, and infinitely more charisma as a folk/rock singer-songwriter with jazz inflections. I have no clue why Moondance is the one with the higher rating, because this really ain't it. Standout: Crazy Love

I always try to give every artist on these lists a fair shake but I think van Morrison must have some insider info on whoever compiles these because he is so boring.

What's up with the album cover? It's just his face over and over. I guess it's fitting because it's like it's telling you: this album is just a bunch of Van Morrison. You know, the "Brown Eyed Girl" guy. If you like Van Morrison, you'll like this album, if you don't like Van Morrison, you won't like this album. I don't like Van Morrison. It's not the worst album I guess, it's pretty calm and soothing and I can imagine people liking it, but his song writing is just so painfully boring and unadventurous. No interesting sounds or ideas or hooks. The songs all immediately blurred together then left my consciousness the second I stopped listening. Couldn't finish the album at risk of falling asleep.

not for me

I only knew Relax going, fun and weird album. I'll abide the don't be bland in Disneyland directive, but don't think I'll revisit.

So lala

This doesn't do it for me but it's not offensive either. 5/10

VM such a boring git.

2.5. Just meh, not bad. Background music that you don't mind if you completely miss. the title track was probably the best of the bunch imo

Not my usual choice. It's well done musically I just can't get into his voice.

not for me

Van Morrison does not do it for me. Even his good ones, like this one. It’s bad.

I didn't really like it. It wasn't bad, but I'm just bored of old records. Can't tou hire a younger person to add some albums on this list?

Van made a couple good songs - and he keeps making them over, and over, and over.

Irgendwie no überraschend stimmig für es weiters "sitzemer am lagerfüür und bestönd uf eusi freedom will mir alles tax payers sind"- und "MIGRANTS!"-Album. trotzdem wirdi de Van Morrison nüm so schnell antreffe im Lebe. Würd fast sege, dass s Van Life nöd so für mich isch.

Not for me this.

Anti vax twat

I liked "And It Stoned Me."

First song alright but not for me

It was not too bad to listen to.

Ikke min kopp te.

the end of caravan is so awfully whiney. album would be fine but it sounds a bit too americany.

Moondance is the wrong Van album for this type of Albums you need to hear-list. Polished, limp, and smug. A couple okay grooves buried under dinner-party jazz and some truly shitty tracks. One of his most boring “classics.”

Boring

This is an easy listening album… nothing special to remember

give me like 3 of these songs and let me move on, love brown eyed girl but i don’t want to listen to that vibe for 45 min straight

All the hallmarks of great music yet I just don't care for the music of Van Morrison. Maybe it's the voice, cos some of these songs are great. The musicians are excellent. And yet...........

Not for me … but Moondance lifts it to 2 stars.

i will catch you in the moonlight

I can't say that any of the songs stuck out to me. Simply not my style I think, but catchy. A fairly relaxing listening experience, not distracting while on the road. Good for general knowledge I suppose.

Not really my kind of music

Nice, aber nicht so mein Ding.

I do not like that man Van Morrison. I do not like his nasal voice. I do not like his vaccine choice. I do not like his whiny blues. I do not like his social views. I do not wish to hear no more. His music is a total bore.

Starts decent, but at the end I wanted it to end. I'm not a fun of this type of singer songwriter music, so... That's it. The production is kind of good, though.

He wants to be Jim Croce so bad

Nostalgia factor going, with Moondance being a song I know was my lolo’s jam,, but alas, not mine.

Some of this I liked, but I really didn’t like the parts I didn’t.

meh didn't care for the first two songs, then moondance came on.... to me Van Morrison's voice is not a good match for the song, which is a shame because i really like the song otherwise. so now i'm listening to covers instead of continuing the album, finishing the album will take some discipline it seems. eventually finished the album..... meh

This is #day200 of my #1001albumsyoumusthearbeforeyoudie, and... here we are with the second Van Morrison album on this list—and also an album with one of the most ridiculous album covers out there. I wouldn’t mind hearing this one if it came on the radio while driving or in the background while working around the house in the countryside. It gives off that distinct 70’s mood—folky bluesy soul with a hint of jazz sprinkled in. But it's far far away from my wheelhouse. I’d rate it a 2 out of 5. Looking forward to #day201.

Starts very pleasently with some calm blues and jazz. Usually repetition as found here bores me, yet it works to be relaxing at this moment, at least for most of the tracks. While the album focus and progression is quite good, there was no standout track for me. Ironically, B side gave me better vibes then A side. So guess, a pleasent listen, but I don't think, I would listen again.

Not awful but not really my thing

Artiste inconnu. =>2/5

Okay. Moondance the title song is a wonderful, but the rest didn’t excite me.

Bored and didn't finish, a couple moments stand out but I didn't remember them. Sorry mr van

please see my previous review of a Van Morrison album. thank you.

Pretty sure I already listened to this album during my 2024 one album a day challenge. Not interesting.

Never really got the hype around Van Morrison. His jazzy take on the singer-songwriter genre was always the main draw, but it's not really that jazzy? Am I missing something? Either way, it's not bad, it just doesn't live up to the hype. Key tracks: Moondance Caravan

my mom always used to listen to a van morrison greatest hits CD in the car when i was a kid so i was overexposed to him and now his voice just pisses me off so much. as much as i dislike him, i can tolerate his music for the length of exactly one song…but an album is simply too much to bear.

I've never been a fan of Van Morrison. His music is too mellow and just becomes background music. I found it incredibly difficult to keep my attention on the music while listening to this one. There was nothing that grabbed my attention. And Moondance is one of those over-played radio songs that I'm tired of hearing.

Nett, reicht aber nicht für 3.

Not my cup of tea.

To think this guy was already a hacky soft rock, and this was his sellout album. Sheesh, gag me

General impression: I respect it, don’t much enjoy it Detailed review: Is it bad that I didn’t realize he was Irish until I read about the album? I dunno. It’s good for what it is. He has an objectively interesting voice, and a clear understanding of the requirements of making good soulful music. I can imagine when I’m listening to it that it touches several people deeply, but it doesn’t really vibrate with my internals. Deeper thoughts (context): still curious about Astral Weeks though! Score: 2 Number of albums left to review: 936 Number of albums from the list I’d consider “must-listens”: 38 Albums from the list I won't include in mine: 27 (including this one)

1st song- i rate like of 2/10 its not very good 2nd song- i rate like 1/10 its not that good 3rd aong-

Do you like jazz rock/alternative Pop? If so, this album is for you. In my opinion, though, I don't like this album. I like the beat and background music, but not the song lyrics. I recommend that you don't listen to this album. The only song that I like is the song called "And It Stoned Me;" Because I like how it sounds like Country music.

Every. Song. Sounds. The Same. I felt like there was one track that was on repeat.

I can’t for the life of me figure out how this guy had such a successful career beyond his days in Them. His voice is terrible! This is like boomer Dave Matthews. It’s just music old people have sex in tents to.

alright, not for me got bored

Highlights: moondance (did not know it was Morrison's). This was ok, smooth dad rock, 2*

1. ztoned - 1.5 2. moondance - 3 3. crazy love - 1.5 4. caravan - 1 5. myztic - 1.5 6. running - 1 7. dreamz - 1 8. day - 2 9. everyone - 1 10. glad - 1.5

I still can't decide if this album is country or jazz or blues :D It's nice and mellow, soft and emotive. It's again another one for me where I like the soundtrack more than the vocals. I can't stop picturing what this album would be like with a different singer? It's a lower rating for me because of that. Someone with a deeper voice that isn't so focused on doing long shouted sillables would've probably hit better with the mellow melody and the jazzy bits of the song.

Some beautiful songs sang by a complete loon.

liked songs: Moondance (if I have to pick one) I was sort of just waiting for it to be over. I'm not a huge fan of Van Morrison's voice or his style of music. 2

There are some top tier songs like Into the Mystic and Moondance, but overall, the album is pretty meh for me.

I liked Caravan and Come Running. Most of the songs felt a little too long, maybe a little samey. But overall I enjoyed it more than I expected. 2 1/2 stars.

The music's ok, somehow each track is different but also somehow similar. Morrison's singing bothers me. It's somehow similar on each track. Didn't care for the lyrics as they were nothing outstanding. Don't get the hype.

Lots of people seem to be rating this based on now-80yo Morrison's political views, which I find a bit strange. The album itself is .. fine? The recording/production isn't great, but otherwise it's listenable.

Play that one song

Boring, i wanted to skip every song, and I did. Moondance the song is nice, but there is waaay too much flute in my left ear. Nnn
