Reviews (page 12 of 14)

This was a good album. The song Moondance feels oddly placed but this is a Classic mellow rock album for a reason. It was very easy to listen to. So much so that it easily fits in as background music at a family BBQ or a JC Penney's.

not my favorite genre but overall excellent execution. although not particularly memorable, provides very easy listening and a lot to enjoy

I didn’t expect to like this at all, but I actually did! Some of the songs were really great. Fav track: Crazy Love Least fave: Glad Tidings

Slightly concerned he’s singing about showing his bottom.

It's alright. Sounds old. Not sure if I like his voice. Favorite song: Everyone

Title track was pretty great, but didn't like the rest much.

It was alright. Started strong but eventually all the songs sounded the same.

classic, nothing jumped out at me

I´ve never been into Van Morrison, so this kinda helped me. The opening tracks was amazing, but then I feel like if this went downhill. I personally not a folk fan, so this was something different. Until "Into the mystic" were I believe the vocals and music were much better. Althought the last two tracks are much superiors, and really enjoyed them. In general, this album was differente to what I usually listen to, and honestly I dont regret listening this. Enjoyable listen, and also very easy to digest, but I dont look myself returning to some of this tracks very soon. Fav Tracks: Crazy Love, And it stoned me, Into the mystic, Come Running, Glad Tidings

Good, easy folk album to put on during a sunny day. A pleasant listen. I’m rating it a 3 only because if it was in my collection, it wouldn’t get much rotation.

A bit soft for my taste

i enjoyed it! an album i would listen to while taking a walk in the park on some summer afternoon or something.. it's like a restaurant background music but in a good way. -1 star because didn't really like the guy's voice, which kinda takes significant portion of enjoyment out of one person record

Judging by this album cover, Van Morrison is the most Northern Irish looking man ever. Like a slim Jim McDonald. I didn't expect to hear touches of soul and dollops of easy listening, but that's what the album delivered. Pleasingly varied singer songwriter fare, overall. Rating: 3/5 Playlist track: Moondance Date listened: 03/05/23

I wouldn't have sought this one out myself but it's definitely a solid album. It's nice to hear the lesser known tracks. I doubt I'd personally go back to this one often but I appreciate the artistry and skill here.

slightly better than bob dylan. the lyrics seem like the focus, and I don't care about lyrics much. brand new day, moondance

Quite pleasant album, very easy to listen to. I liked Morrison's vocal, and even though it wasn't anything special, it was a nice background music. Interesting experience, but most likely I won't come back to Van Morrison anytime soon.

Classic Van Morrison sound!

Not my style, but still nice

Heard before. Sounds good. But pretty much the same. + Moondance

Lekkere muziek, goeie zanger. ***

The title song sounds very nice, reminds me of something You'd hear in a restaurant. It sounds like a CCR album. Very easy listening

I don’t know it’s alright but for such a short album it really drags. 3/5

Sometimes you forget how many great song writers there are from recordings of the past. You can just hear the truth and pure feeling coming from each of these songs.

Not sure what I think of his voice, at times I Iike it and at others I want it to just bloody stop. Some interesting music here and not all totally one note but still not my bag. Didn't feel like the album or any songs dragged on here so extra credit for the lack of bloat. Meh!

variations on a theme: brown eyed girl. best tracks: moondance, these dreams of you, crazy love

Moondance is a great song, but I've never listened to the rest of the album. Honestly past the first couple of songs, this album didn't really interest me.

Good album, first half is definitely better. I’ll admit I kinda got bored towards the middle to ending. But it definitely had its beautiful moments, but it’s just not my cup of tea exactly. Or maybe I didn’t connect with it now at this moment. Really good lyrics, incredible soulful voice.

good music, not a lotta replay value for me

Average 70s rock

Was feeling pretty anxious today and this was a nice balm. Nothing transcendent for me but very pleasant none the less. Found that his voice isn't my favourite to listen to for an extended period. Fave track: Into the Mystic

Not that memorable but had nice tracks.

So, Moondance is by Van Morrison!? I had no idea. Well, my kids like it.

I've been away but Henry's 5* drew me to this one. Quite liked it, Moondance the stand out track. Feel the album faded towards the end and lost a bit of funk

Forgettable songs

A few good songs.

And It Stoned Me, Crazy Love, Caravan ja Into the Mystic vain yksinkertaisesti toimivat. Jopa Moondancea siedän. B-puoli taas on kokonaisuudessaan heikompi, ja Everyone on jo hirveä - puhdasta syyllisyyttä ilman nautintoa.

Classic Van Morrison. The man cultivated quite a vibe before he slowly became an unbearable asshole

I only really know him for Brown Eyed Girl and I think that song is alright. I'm not super psyched for this album but I hope I like at least one song. He's not a bad singer, I'm just really picky about music.

Alright

I thought this was okay... At first the tone of Morrison's vocals was quite grating on me but I quickly got used to it. Sadly I think this was just a bit boring, and most of the best stuff seemed to be on the first half. There's a few decent songs though. Favourite: Moondance

Didn’t mind this album. It felt like quintessential middle american music even though he’a irish.

This is one of those albums where I actually knew a ton of the songs but have no idea when or where I heard them. Oh to be a small child with a malleable mind and an ear for the oldies. This was clearly a well done album, especially the first five songs, but unfortunately it didn’t hit like I hoped it would. I’d listen again, but not anytime soon. I was going to give this another go around to determine whether this was a 3 or a 4, but then Sam Cooke came on right after and I instantly made my decision.

3.5, I really enjoyed the first half of the album but the second half waned just a bit... maybe I just get bored at work at that point because it seems to be a pattern... Or I'm one of the youth with an attention span less than a goldfish

Moon dance is actually my favorite Van Morrison track, but I’ve never listened to this album. Again though, that means absolutely nothing because I haven’t been exposed to much Van Morrison. Honestly, pretty good. Mans gets in his feels and does it with good music. Really grew on me. There are a few tracks I REALLY liked outside of Moondance. A very strong 3.

Enjoyed this one surprising amount. I'm not really a folk fan, but this definitely had its moments. I even liked the bits with the flute lol. Saved tracks: And It Stoned Me, Moondance, Everyone, Glad Tidings

Good stuff in general but never could really get into Van Morrison a ton. It's great but just kind of background for me.

Good album with some recognisable songs

One more artist ruined in legacy by their revealing themselves as awful people. Good album though, lots of sax and piano.

You'd think that my Atlantic coastal roots and my usually contrarian nature would have me totally out on Van Morrison generally and Into The Mystic specifically, but the song still just does it for me. Surprised and happy that there are a few great songs around it, too. I'm not ashamed to admit that I like Van Morrison. Standouts: And It Stoned Me, Moondance, Into The Mystic, Glad Tidings

It was alright. I was familiar with the title song Moondance. It was a decent album. I don't think I will revisit it, but it was just kind of there.

I listened to this while doing leg day. Was this a good idea, no not really. The songs were a bit too slow and not lively enough for it but nonetheless they were still good songs. My favourite song was moondance as I really liked the jazz tunes in the middle. Not my normal taste in music but it was good to listen to something new.

Average, solid and cozy music, favorite song is Moondance

Moondance is an album that’s a favourite of my partner. I’m only half particular to it. It’s mostly just there.

Pretty interesting song, primarily consists of a jazzy-blues type vibe.

It's not so much different from the "Astral Weeks" album I received on this list some months ago: same good vibe and same rate.

too long

Very nice. Mostly road-trip music

Can't really stand him. There are some good songs on this though

Not very exciting. The title track stands out a mile as being fun and catchy, but most of the others are pleasant enough but dull.

Muy recomendable en especial: "Moondance", "Crazy Love", "Caravan", "Brand New Day" y "Everyone".

I would say this is the originator of the sound that I described for John Martyn. Or, at least, this is what I identify in my experience of music as the originator of that sound. Though I didn’t say the term in those notes, I refer to it as ‘Sundown’ or ‘Sunset’ music, as it seems like something they would play in a sequence of a film when two characters are having a moment on a porch, slow dancing and the feelings are happening and the sun is setting. Sometimes it’s the end of the movie and we are meant to be believe that this world is okay. It’s a bias I have and I am okay with it. To add to artist’s who have this sound I am including Norah Jones as well, as it isn’t the sound of just male singers but it is the male singers who do it that annoy me the most. John Mayer too. Best song by far is ‘Moondance’, from this album anyway. There is a certain amount of cheese to this style I can’t endorse.

Sure Moondance is a classic. I like it okay. But for me, Payin’ Dues, now that’s a Van Morrison album you should listen to before you die. Is it better? No. But it is one of the best concept albums of all time: “I hate my label and I owe them this piece of shit so here it is.” To me, songs about ringworm are much more revealing of the real man Van Morrison, his sense of hard-headedness, and his sense of humor. The album circulated only as a bootleg for ages, originally saw release many years later as the surplus material of a bargain-bin double CD. I would recommend that album for your bucket list.

It's almost a kind of... zydeco/Dr. John sound? I've heard Moondance of course, which I took to be a sort of Jazz standard. I liked "Crazy Love"... but overall, the album all sort of blurs together into that swaggery voice thing... I appreciate the talent, but I am not a fan.

Pretty good

Much better than I expected, pretty good all round album and well worth a listen.

Music exclusively for dads

reminds me of that 70's show joke about Van stock

I feel like this type of music is never truly my style but it was pretty lyrics and music.

I like it, saved some musics, but nothing that memorable

Harmless - couple of lovely tunes, lots of filler that I no doubt would love if I'd lived with this for 50 years

some music i like, some music i like less

Just an average album to me.

bien qsy. 7 / 10

Perfectly pleasant listening experience. Lacks a bit of excitement however.

Sweet love make you righteous, make you whole. And that’s the kind of love people call “crazy”. Returning to this album is like slipping into the world’s most comfortable chair, just a welcoming, warm, relaxing album. I know this gets mentioned a lot about this album, but it’s really lopsided. Side A is so good I just want to punch someone in the face. Side B isn’t bad, but compared to Side A…well, what five songs in a row on an album can compare with that? Very few, I reckon.

More country than I thought that it would be; but good.

Quality mellow feel-good oldies

My roommate in undergrad swore that Van Morrison was the best get-it-on music. I never understood. I still don't. Don't get me wrong, the music is perfectly pleasant. But this album is more likely to put me to sleep than put me in the mood.

I'm not exactly a fan of Van Morrison as a person, so I figured this album wouldn't be up my alley, especially since I kind of despise Brown Eyed Girl, but this album was okay. I recognized far more than I was expecting to, and the standout songs the other reviews are mentioning are as good as they say. It is mostly just "You know that guy who did Brown Eyed Girl? More of that", though.

Van’s voice is amazing and carries this. It’s otherwise a pretty straightforward soul album. It’s a little light for my taste, and the 2nd half isn’t as strong, but an enjoyable listen.

A sweet, folk-rocky vibe for my travels in gloucestershire, but nothing to really write home about - except the first track, I liked that one a lot. Nice and upbeat but also a bit of nothingness?

It's kinda hit or miss. There are good songs on the album, but then there's something so utterly boring, that I almost gave up during one of those songs. But the beginning was good, so 3/5 or 6,5/10 it is

Easy listening but didn’t pull me in

I liked this one more than Astral Weeks. It didn't sound quite like the same song over and over. I don't know if I'd come back to it still. 3.25/5

Morrisons vocals aren't nearly as annoying as on "Astral Weeks". Enjoyed this a fair bit more than that one, but still wouldn't return to it. The swingy title track was cool.

Thoughts on first 2 play throughs - some cool moments, some okay, and some skippable. Not a big fan of the use of saxophone and flute, and some songs stick out as being out of place for me personally (Moondance and …Crazy Love - both good songs, and Everyone). Glad Tidings is a bit too Brown Eyed Girl. Listened to the album a few times, had to turn off on the 3rd or 4th play through somewhere in the 2nd half. I came back for another listen a few hours later and found skipping Moondance made the album a more cohesive and enjoyable experience. This album has grown on me throughout the day and is one I can see myself coming back to. This is my first generated album so I may look back and think otherwise but would rate it 3/5 - 3.5/5 if that was possible

This is a big album - i.e., a milestone for Van Morrison, with a lot of well known songs. The problem is - I don't like Van Morrison at all - I find his voice too grating - his high notes sound like a small baby crying....'whaaaaaaaa' So - as an album - it's good, personal enjoyment zip though.

Mysigt album

not the best album ever, but it’s not bad!

If you like Van Morrison then this album is fantastic - It's all the hits. That said, if you dont then its not like this album is going to make you suddenly change your mind. I'm indifferent to Van Morrrison - 3/5

Better than expected. Still a bit too much “dad music”.

Pleasantly mellow but nothing too memorable

I have never been a huge fan of Van Morrison maybe because some of these tracks were just forced upon me through my surroundings...but Moondance always seems like a parody to me since it gets played so much...but overall the album is still pretty light and easy listening. It's not Van's fault...or maybe it is. Either way, I get it...solid album.

A decent singer-songwriter LP. Well-fleshed, catchy instrumentals and good vox, nothing too memorable but still a good listen.

I like this but I do not feel strongly about it haha. Moondance is great but I have heard better versions of it... Maybe that's unfair. I just feel completely indifferent about this album.

I do enjoy a bit of Van Morrison but I don't think this album covered particular faves for me. I love his voice and style though

The title track is great! The rest was pleasant enough but inoffensive and unremarkable.

This was okay. Moondance was a pretty good song, the rest of the album was pretty forgettable.

It's certainly interesting to read that there was a time when Van Morrison didn't sound like Van Morrison. This sound is so synonyms now. Fave: And It Stoned Me -- everything else kind of just blends together.

I liked this more than I thought. It’s got that old school feeling to it.

Soothing

Would be 4 stars but I can’t separate the man from the music.

Liked it more than Astral Weeks

A "nice" album. Each song on their own is really nice, feel good music, but a whole album of the same type is a bit draining

A decent album

Veedon Fleece was my gateway to Van's catalog, and beside it this seems meh. Easily as good as Elton John, to be fair, and sounds good. The timelessness of the production takes it over the line.

And It Stone Me & Moondance are great tracks, but the rest are nothing special. Plus, like Clapton, he turns out that he's massive prick.

Alright

Quite enjoyed listening to this one from Van M. Jazzy but not too much, retaining melody and structure. No bad He was a kid when he did this, yes?

Way better than my last Van album, on account of fewer annoying vocal tics. Still not my thing

One of the few Van Morrison albums I enjoy. I definitely prefer this over Astral Weeks (which is widely regarded as one of this best). Almost 4 stars, but not quite.

I know this album quite well from my college years. I still like a lot of the tracks, but overall I've drifted away from Van Morrison in my personal listening preferences. I do appreciate his work, though. Heck of a songwriter.

Van Morrison has a great voice (time to admit I thought "Van Morrison" was his last name (like Van Halen). I had no idea it was short for Ivan Morrison. I'm learning much on this 1001 albums journey). But the songs sound like a lot of other songs (including each other). For example, while I enjoyed the opening "And It Stoned Me" I found myself singing The Band's "The Weight" over it (and The Weight was released 2 years earlier, so I don't have causation backwards). Crazy Love is good, but it also starts with the same essential tune as And It Stoned Me (and therefore, the Weight). Glad Tidings is basically Brown Eyed Girl part 2, so he's derivative of himself. Moondance is definitely different from the other tracks - it's a classic and I always enjoy it, but it's pleasant, not amazing. Overall, I give the album a 3 because it's pleasant, but also far too often derivative and repetitive.

I'm only familiar with Van Morrison hits of which two of them open this album. Then I heard the same songs over and over again. This album just doesn't go anywhere. It's the same sound for 10 songs and I got bored midway through. He just doesn't go anywhere new. For such a highly acclaimed album, I was expecting a lot more.

Pretty cheery, short and sweet. Screams early 70s. Some good tracks but overall ok.

Classic

Good restart

Sopi hyvin seesteiseen maanantaihin ja toimii varmasti rauhallisen aamun käynnistyksessä noin yleisesti.

Kyllä toimi. Automatkalle sopi lähtölaukauksena mökkireissuun

Refreshing and sweet. Didn't realize I'd like this as much because of his very popular songs.

Not my bag, but Van Morrison’s voice is quite pleasant. 5/10

Moondance full fire

First time ever hearing this, and man, it is just so good. Great and very beautiful songs.

Mildly enjoyable. Nothing I really liked or really hated. The vocals are both pleasant and unpleasant at the same time; it’s kind of intriguing. 6/10.

A nice album. Just barely misses out on a 4 from me. It’s definitely got some bops, particularly Into the Mystic and Glad Tidings, but it just doesn’t completely click together for me.

Decent enough.

it has some moments, but it is a 3.5/5 at best

The same but different vibe. Starts to wear thin after about the 3rd track. Entertaining enough though.

Decent vibes, nothing too crazy. Wouldnt put it on again myself but wouldnt mind it in the background somewhere. Probably good for a roadtrip but gang we have Simon and Garfunkel for that!

Begint sterker dan ie eindigt

Some good tunes, minus points for Van Morrison being insane

Much better than Astral Weeks. Enjoyable, if not super remarkable, from top to finish. My two take-aways: 1. Van Morrison has more good music than just the song Moondance 2. That part of Moondance where he goes "Bahvvvvaaavvvvaavvaavvaavvaa" really fast is so weird and we need to talk about it more.

Never listened to anything on this other than the title track before. It’s chill, it’s “nice”, would buy on vinyl if I found a cheap copy somewhere. Not my normal style but I dig it.

Some nice jazzy numbers, he does have a cool voice that transports you back in time. I'm judging this on musical merit and not his mad covid conspiracy tendencies

More smooth 'n' soulful that I was expecting. Not entiiiiirely my cup of tea but it's got a kind of classic feel about it. Is Glad Tidings supposed to sound so much like Brown Eyed Girl...?

rock-ish easy listening music. didn't know he was the guy who wrote Moondance! mostly passable old school background music. shame that he is apparently a terrible person- oh well

I appreciated the variety in songs. Moondance is a nice jazz song. The rest of the album is fine, but not something that I would listen to again.

Hard to separate this from the curmudgeonly old bastard Morrison has become recently. The music is good, the man isn't.

Better than I expected

Made me feel like I was in some American bar!

Not my style, although it is a very good album to have on in the background

Good but you know

van morrison's voice is cool. there's an appeal there. I would throw on this album for fun. But i wouldn't notice it much. and i might be annoyed if like, the song moondance comes on. so, it's fine in the background.

jazzet rock album, god stemning, gladt album

I loved the title track, but the rest of the album was okay for me

Quite nice, nothing really stuck with me. I was expecting something very different, I think I was confusing Van Halen with Van Morrison

Lots of classics on here that, of course, I've already heard because they play on the radio. Overall a "good vibes" album, a little too easy-listening, and I can only take his voice for so long. Not a bad album though. 3.5/5 or 7/10 Highlights: Crazy Love Into the Mystic Glad Tidings

Folk. Rock suave.

Liked the title track, everything else was eh

This is the sort of album where the guy is obviously very talented and I can easily understand why somebody would say "I love Van Morisson, 'Moondance' is one of my favorite albums" but it just doesn't speak to me. Aside from the title track (a wonderfully sung jazzy little number), nothing on this album really captured my imagination.

Some classic tunes. Great bass playing. Mostly the tracks all do something different. But Van Morrison’s vocals don’t live up to the rest of the group for me.

Great album. Easy listening

It was pleasant enough, although I really don’t like the track Moondance

Eh. I am not mad at the album. Wasn't a waste of time but Not really my thing. Might get another listen or two. But I don't see it growing on me anymore than it already could have.

Moondance was an alright album. I like it. I'm not crazy about it but I like it.

Too little variety

Not my favorite ever, but solid.

very pleasant. was considering a 4 until I realized the album ended and it had moved on to playing similar hits from that period.

Not a big Van fan but there is no doubting he had a good run circa Astral Weeks through to St. Dom’s preview. Moon dance falls right in the middle of that period and is perhaps his most accessible album, it’s enjoyable when in the mood.

It’s Van Morrison. Decent, but nothing to write home about

11th June 2021 Listened in the garden while re-sowing the lawn. Sadly had to miss going down to Brighton for Ben's stag cos of jen's covid, but found out I've got the job at the financial Times and it was the opening of the Euros which was amazing! I think I'd really like this album if I listened to it a few times, I like the combination of jazz and soft rock and van Morrison is clearly a troubled legend. 3.5 if I could

Not particularly my thing but not bad per say. Another nice look at the music landscape of the 70s.

3/5 niceish album, but didn't make the click

Ernsthafter Typ aufm Cover, ernsthafte Musik unterm Cover.

Country usa blablabla

“Moondance” is always a classic. The rest of the album not so much.

Good but won't get a run at BH

The song Moondance is one of those songs I’ve heard a million times, but not really appreciated. And come on, It has an exceptional melody. Crazy to think someone wrote that from nothing. Pretty cruisy album all up. Glad Tidings very much like Brown Eyed Girl

Another great classic for which I wouldn't always be in the mood. Perhaps to leave it playing in the background, but this is not the type of music that draws me in to active listening.

GREAT ALBUM

the last song is literally a rip off of brown eyed girl

Quite alright. I might have been a little too harsh on Astral Weeks which I got at the beginning of this journey. Having a little more perspective changes a lot.

Old school 70’s album. Good sounds. Enjoyed it.

For me, this album fits right into the category 'Not offensive but not really interesting'. I know this kind of blues songwriter thing is really deep for some people and it is my failing that I don't know the genre well enough to be moved by it.

Classic record. I’ve heard this one a bunch in my life, it’s kind of jazz/pop.

nice sounds, but kind of boring

Perfectly nice folky, bluesy rock. Great vocals. Really liked Into The Mystic, but overall just a bit boring and unremarkable for my taste.

Okay achtergrondmuziekje

A surprise for me. Listening to this at 5:10am on New Years' day 2021. Real enjoyed this album of foot tapping stuff, in places, with soulful poetry in others. Rating high 3s but will keep as a 3 star out of 5.

Some nice stuff here.

It's fine. Maybe a little one note, or maybe Van Morrison's voice is so distinct that it feels one note due to that. "Moondance" is still a killer song. Shame VM is a shithead in real life. Favorite tracks: "Moondance", "And It Stoned Me"

Hm. Hmmm??? It was fine, not sure if I'd listen again.

Älskar And It Stoned Me. Första halvan är bra men sen tröttnar man lite.

I'm just not a Van Morrison fan--Moondance is too overplayed, I guess--but I did like some of the horn arrangements on this.

Last time a Van Morrison album appeared on this list, it was so long I was facilating between despondent and homicidal by the time it finished. This album at a nice, sensible 38 minutes gave me more hope. Moondance is great song that I mostly knew from Barenaked Ladies singing it as an interlude in a version of The King Of Bedside Manor recorded in a bathroom. It's weird how you sometimes end up discovering songs through very non-standard pathways. I really liked Come Running. I really didn't like Everyone (too pan pipey). Glad Tidings kept morphing into Brown Eyed Girl. Ultimately this evens out to "it's fine" for me. So... 2/5

10 songs Some pretty decent Club Penguin pizza parlor or coffee shop songs in here. Other than that, not much

Fine I guess

I had mixed emotions with this album, between songs there are many changes in style, from country folk, through jazz and even rhythms similar to chamame (genre of native Argentine northern music). So I couldn't decipher the artist's style well, I didn't quite buy into any of his different facets throughout the album. it's a 2 for me this time.

It’s obviously not bad but not my thing. I could only listen as background music. Almost too easy to listen to and unfortunately does nothing for me.

he look like how i look/5

Algumas músicas maneiras mas nada me impressionou

I mean, it was okay. I'm just not a huge fan of his, never have been.

Fine, idk what all the hype is about really, 2.5

Caught myself checking the track list multiple times to see when this ends. Honestly did nothing for me. I can't really point to any specifics or songs that spoke to me in anyway. It's all fine, it's all competent, it's not terrible, but this just kind of exists and little else.

I get he's a big deal, but all of this album sounds like the happy music you try to play at funerals.

Heard the first song & thought “maybe this is fine?” Moondance is a bottom of the barrel song.

Van Morrison perfected a signature sound. I don’t want to hear it more than once

Despite never knowingly have heard this album I knew more songs than I expected, which I guess speaks highly to how influential this album is. It also says something about how even though I sort of know this music I’ve never felt particularly compelled to dig any deeper. I know Van Morrison is supposed to be one of these all-time greats and I can appreciate the songwriting and musicianship on here, but also it doesn’t do anything for me. Meh.

Felt pretty uneventful but I do like the title track which I have heard before.

Best Song: Moondance. It is weird to listen to an original song and think, "this song is quite nice, but I bet there are covers that exceed this". Worst Song: Everyone. It just sounds like he's shouting the whole time. Overall: Boy howdy do I not like how Van Morrison sings. He sings like he's also simultaneously trying to stick his tongue out of his mouth during sustained notes. Some of the arrangements are fine, but get a different guy in there.

Fine but outside on 1 song nothing memorable

Here’s my hot take: this album would be better without Van Morrison. I guess he can sing but he grates on my nerves.

To be honest, this is my first time listening to an album like this. This album and the songs on it definitely won't be my favorites, but that's not a bad thing

Quite underwhelming, I just don’t get why it’s on this list. It’s listenable but that’s about it

another boring one. not like awful but i wanted to change it several times..

- it was fine - everyone brought this done a rating for me 🙈 did NOT like that song - not my style of music I don’t think

This just didn't do anything for me at all. I suppose a couple of the tunes are noteworthy but I just can't get into it.

Didn’t do much for me. Very folky, that one song with the vocalised drums was quite interesting but I found it very same-y.

Snoozer

2nd Van Morrison album from the generator. Gotta say, this one is better than the other one I listened to. I actually enjoyed some songs here. It's just a small improvement though 2/5

Thoroughly boring album. Vocals were kinda good and the instrumentation was just okay. Favorite Track: Moondance - I almost gave this album a 3 solely due to the saxophone, especially due to this song.

producer: hey Van, loved the last record, you gonna give us one that's kind of like Madame George or Sweet Thing? Van: no actually, every song on this one is gonna sound like the worst song on that record producer: right Van: there's one where i say that it's a fantabulous night to make romance producer: huh, okay, well.....what about your voice, then. will you be wrapping it round your allusive, narratively rich lyrics with a real sense of dynamics and a strong connection with your band? Van: well, there's one quiet tune. otherwise really just yelling producer: ......yelling? Van: aye. about sex and lines of trucks producer: great. people, inexplicably, are going to love this Van: i don't care about that at all. they put a microchip in the jab, you know? and the jab comes out of your smartphone

Not my cup of tea. Too much folk for my taste. The title track is very good, and the sax in Come Running was very enjoyable. The instrumental arrangements in some of the tracks, such as Everyone, are worthy of highlight. Glad Tidings was a great finisher and a refreshing reminder of the album's message. All in all, however, I found it quite repetitive.

Ok as background music

not good mr. morrison

Not bad, a little boring tho

Want bad but I wouldn't revisit

didn't listen to this one

This album will probably stone me more than the other The first song already looks promising to me, sounds like he cares about the lyrics and also the instrumental(not saying that AC does not) Moondance got because i thouhght it would be a country album especially because the cover looks country and ZOEYS A very lovey album. I thinks i´ve listened to somenthing similar to Crazy Love, but Van voice is just so deep? Idk, but crazy love is a pretty love song Then the fourth song his voice comes back to normal Will all the songs be about love? But caravan is a good song I think i prefer Artic than this type of songs Into the mystic is bom(although i cannot complain about the instrumental) I feel like i´m listening to something from the 50s (these dreams of you) Love the feeling from a brand new day The flute is the charm in everyone Glad tidings made me realise the emotion he puts and, again, the instrumentals i feel bad for not enyoing this one, but the instrumental is very good and he is a very good singer

The man has dreadful views and his music is pretty dull. Nearly fell asleep.

Full Album Thoughts: Album Rating: 1.85 (B-) Absolutely a Wedding Jams Classic, but not really my goto. A couple standouts, a very smooth easy listen, but nothing that really jazzes me up (which is funny for the bits of jazz in here). Not one I am likely to go back to for a full listen ever, that B side is rough. Track Thoughts: "And It Stoned Me" Well composed mellow jam B Jarring initial reaction to the lofi mic leading this in, its a strange vocal presentation in comparison to the clean instrumentation, but the grove is slow and bringing in some brass horns always help give it a grove. Feels a bit like a lost credence jam. "Moondance" A fantabulous smooth grove A- I like the vocals better here, hope this style keeps up. Enjoying these smooth groves. I feel like this what every Generic Lounge Jazz I've heard has been aping, so its kinda weird to see a proto-example of it. I need a vocal sample of that weird trill he does with his voice at the very end of the song! "Crazy Love" Generic Soft Rock Song C Every vocal performance is just going to be vastly different I guess! You aint been soft rocked until youve been soft rocked by me? First sorta miss for me. Dont know if I needed 2 love songs back to back. I guess the last one was Wanting More and this is celebrating Getting Lots. I'm starting to suspect that this album is a Wedding Jams Staple. "Caravan" Solid grove but still generic, and with too much vocal wail C- We keep up the strange vocal delivery choices of being a bit more by adding in an edge... a fry to the voice and some wailing tendencies. I think this is another miss for me. Really solid groves and riffs still, but idk, it feels a bit generic? (Again, this is unfair considering its probably what has influenced all the things I am actually familiar with) The ending descending riff with the layered La La Las feel like finding the roseta stone for 2010s folkpop. "Into the Mystic" Belter, Evocative Theming compliments Instrumentation A+ "'Ere the bonnie boat was won as we sailed into the mystic" is what should tip you off this guy is Irish. Love me a good nautical pining song. Also its just an excellent turn of phrase. The guitar has drive to this, the horns evoke ships horns, this is like, the perfectly constructed song on the album. This is a belter. Wish it didn't have a slur in it... "Come Running" Too Repetitive D Trash B side opener. Woah huge miss. Way too repetitive. This is where I first felt like... stepping off of the album. I took a quick break. "These Dreams of You" Way to hard of a sell lyrically C+ Nothing hits quite like describing a dream you had someone else... idk why this is a genre of song. Not sure I was expecting it to be a simple blues structure. Is this the first instance of organ on the album, its the one I am picking out more prominently I guess. Playful Sax Solo, but a bit too Out There for what is otherwise a very by the numbers vibe. I am completely lost at trying to comprehend the lyrics right at the end. "Brand New Day" Too slow, too long D Way too slow of a slow jam for my taste. Wow I had nothing to latch on to for this one "Everyone" Super strange instrumentation (positive) B- Oh we go fun wacky instrumentation on this one! I think this is the bright shining point of the B-side! The Lyrics leave a bit to be desired. Maybe its just the flute, but I am getting Jethro Tull vibes. "Glad Tidings" I'd rather listen to Brown Eyed Girl C+ OH SHIT I DO KNOW VAN MORRISON! Because I was like "this sounds like that one song that goes "sha-la-la" at the end... oh heck what is it called... some kind of Eyed Girl? and like wow is this ever just a re-do of that! Cuz he wrote Brown Eyed Girls! Like it even has the same riffs! WTF! You can just re-do your hit song like that?!? Too bad, upon a re-listen of Brown Eyed Girl there is a reason it is the standout, and this here is very much an afterthought.

never judge a book by its cover

Rock’n’roll 🤘

boring

Well I groaned when I saw it was Van Morrison as later stuff I’ve heard is dreadful but actually this not too bad. But I won’t listen to it again!

Softest Rock.

Uff. Nothing more to say

This is gonna upset my brother, but whatever... Van Morrison is the single most overrated singer to come out of the 60s. I have tried so many times and it simply doesn't work. Sorry.

Old man music. I didn’t mind the instrumental but I think his voice and lyrics were mid.

Guessed this might not be my cup of tea, and I was right. Not terrible, but washed over me without leaving an impression

didn't faze me

Didn't get get into it, but And It Stoned Me and Brand New Day did connect to me. Deserve another hearing. Fav. Track: And It Stoned Me

booooring.

Aburrido de pelotas

I believe this was my first time listening to Van Morrison. And I didn't particularly liked it.

Brown eyed Girl shalalalaaa. Tämä tulee mieleen

2 not bad, not my cup of tea though, fav song off the album is everyone

musica de viejo gringo republicano

This might be because I'm stupid but I forgot everything about the album immediately after listening to it. Review is impossible

It didnt impress me, it have some nice songs but rest of them sounds like fillers. 5/10

Average

had not previously heard 10 tracks 1: "and it stoned me" listenable but didn't save it, reminds me if bob dylan was talentless 2: "moondance" have heard it before one of the few songs along with brown eyes girl that reached my parents minds, not awful but still something so flat and talentless like this van morrison guy never really went through the struggle, Ha googled it he's northern irish and was against the literal troubles 3. "crazy love" I like the background vocals, still such boring flatness im trying to not have bias perhaps its this 2013 remaster but I can't believe this guy's ever had "crazy love" at least not in the same way anyone else has 4. "Caravan" finally a good intro but leads to somwhat lackluster song "enter sandman syndrome" I like the la la la chorus, again he is writing way out of his element lyrically for a irish new yorker with a record deal, best song so far 5. "into the mystic" god I hate his voice its the same squeal no matter the line and the stupid echo on every song is so annoying, this guy has really good musicians and is squandering it, whatever song its fine 6. "come running" somewhat more upbeat song, same vocal problems, same great band, same song as the other 5 practically 7. "these dreams of you" same same, would have hated to be in the recording booth for these, blaxploitation at its finest on this track, this is the shit YOOOo this is the shit the vampire from sinners woulda been in the booth making 30 years later if he lived 8. "brand new day" nothing new here very on brand 9. "Everyone" god this band fucking rules get this retard out of here 10. "glad tidings" more of the same hate the clapping a lot, I bet it was van's idea, wtf why is this basically brown eyed girl overall: 2/5 terrible terrible start to this challenge hopefully its not completely full of boring garbage like this

70s zzz....zzz....zzz...

Fairly dull. One standout single, and a few similar sounding songs. And the final track is just a copy of brown eyed girl. Nothing of any great note here. Alright in the background.

Nicht mein Ding

It was alright, did not interest me. Just not my genre

got bored pretty quickly, not a fan of his vocals

While I enjoyed the guitar work and somewhat enjoyed the vocals I personally didn't find much else in this album. But I definitely do see some great elements in here that form this beautifully arranged and sort of sentimental album. 4.5/10, Favorite Song: Crazy Love

A lot of this sounded vaguely familiar but not in the way that means I’d heard it before, just it was really generic.

There's something about Van Morrison's voice that grates on me, so I really just don't like this.

I didn't realize Moondance was Van Morrison.

Don't like whatever that was

Good singer, but not my preference for music. I can understand his appeal. I really liked "Everyone". 2.75/5

country boy i love youuuu

It's kind of good, but totally not my genre. I also don't really enjoy his voice. The arrangement in some of the songs is cool, I like that it takes a bit from Jazz. The one I enjoyed most is "Into the Mystic".

Warm, easygoing grooves built from gently swinging rhythms, supple bass lines, brushed drums, light piano touches, and softly glowing horn accents, with vocals delivered in a relaxed, conversational croon, move this folk-jazz album like an evening stroll that never quite leads anywhere—pleasant at first, but so smooth and unchallenging that it quickly settles into boredom.

Moondance and Crazy Love give false hope for a dull album. Could wait for it to finish.

decennnt idk kinda like sadish might revisit cuz highkey did mot finish

I knew the title track before. I like that one, album's kinda dull otherwise

A bit meh bar the odd track, maybe I'll enjoy Astral Weeks more

Good music, Van’s singing style gets a bit repetitive and it’s hard for me to separate the art from the artist in this case.

Love that his voice is kind of thin and reedy. If it weren't for that it'd all slip down a bit too easy. Moondance is a great tune though.

It sounds like chewing paper tastes like

I can't bring myself to find this more than just okay, borderline superfluous even. it's a perfectly serviceable blend of jazz, R&B, pop and folk music from blue-eyed soul singer and future conspiracy theorist Van Morrison. to me, there's nothing new really being brought to the table here. this move towards extreme accessibility seems, to me, like a cowardly retreat from the far more ambitious sound of Astral Weeks. I get that this was the album that launched his career as a mainstream star, but I was pretty bored by it nevertheless. also, what was with white musicians in the seventies constantly alluding to Romani people as some sort of clumsy, racist metaphor for free-spiritedness and spiritual mumbo-jumbo? the constant cringe of Morrison alluding to "g*psies" in one way or another pulls my rating here down a full point. strong 4/10.

If I were to compare it with American Pie it would be slightly worse because there isn't a highlight like the title track, still good album, just unremarkable.

Into the mystics one of my favorite songs ever

Not my thing.

don’t remember much about it tbh but i didn’t have alot of time to listen

From Wiki: "I had to forget about the artistic thing because it didn't make sense on a practical level. One has to live." What a slap against his own work and his „consumers“. Lol. But yes, album is pretty boring.

Not for me 2
