Reviews (page 11 of 14)
I honestly think van morrison is one of the weirdest guys ever and like why does he make like blue eyed soul... hes a lad from northern ireland i wanna hear some pro IRA folk rock not some corny ass rnb from his plumber ass... anyways i do have a sweet spot for anyone who was in The Last Waltz but yea idk ive never been particularly impressed with this guy.
Kind of cool. Kind of boring.
not my type of music, but fine to play in the background wouldn't listen again
I remember hearing Moondance years ago and thinking what a cool song it was. But then I was disappointed when I heard other Van Morrison tracks and didn't find that same jazzy sound. At this point I like that folky sound too, but still the album as a whole is so-so. I like "And It Stoned Me", and I kind of like Caravan. I'm surprised "Into The Mystic" is the top played track.
Is this what they call blue eyed soul - even if his eyes are brown per the album cover? While I like the first song, and ‘Everyone’ (I blame Wes Anderson), this mostly felt like music for people who think Otis Redding sounds too aggressive.
Nice stuff. Always liked Van, just doesn't strike me in any way in particular
Van Morrison is another one of those artists I always feel I should like more than I ever actually do - I like him better in single songs than album length. A high 3 but still a 3, I think.
The title track is a good song, but otherwise it's fine for what it is. After a while all the songs blurred together without much to distinguish between them. It's listenable, but forgettable. Nothing challenging here, just average songs that roll on past without an impact. Definitely nothing I'd insist anyone needed to hear.
I was going to write a real review but someone said "A passable album does not a cunt redeem." and I think that's much funnier than anything I could say
3 because I’m a van Morrison fan - this isn’t his best but interesting enough to prompt a second listen
This one borders a bit on being background music, but there’s a nice energy to it that makes it listenable. Some of the songs elicit a comfortable vibe to them, which stops it from feeling boring. However, not much of this really stuck past that. There really wasn’t anything memorable for me here. It’s good, but not much past that. Good to hear more of Van Morrison past Brown-Eyed Girl, though. Favorite track: Into the Mystic Other hits: And It Stoned Me, Brand New Day, Caravan, These Dreams of You
Cute easy listening
Do you like jass music? If you do then this album is for you. This album aint bad It just its not my type of music. Its lyrics is pretty good. The beat is decent, and the album is also decent. I would recommend this album its good .
have you ever heard an album that was okay, well that's what I think of the album moon dance I think that the lyrics of the album are okay i think that because it just sounds kinda lame it does kinda sound good but I think it could have been better. The singer was also kinda bad but I think he did good. I think this album moon dance was okay but I don't recommend listening to that album.
I liked this. Moonfance fave song
i like moondance and all the other songs on here. not mind blowing tho. 7/10
Stabiles Album.
Decent, very folky with a lot of brass Not really my style but would listen to again if I was in the mood
Don't really know what I expected from Van the man, but it wasn't this. Now I don't mean that in a bad way, it just wasn't what I thought it would be. Quite enjoyed it really. Definitely better than the last two offerings but not worth a 4. Think you can see where this is heading. 3
It's always good to have a happy sounding album appear on this 1001 thing when people have made you feel sad. You learn a new thing every day, and this one being discovering 'Crazy Love' was originally one of his songs. My preconceptions of him was that he was just a B-Tech Irish version of that old tramp Bob Dylan, but no, he's better than that. So just for bringing a bit of joy to a shit day, Mr. VM, you are going to get a better score than I'd normally give.
Three stars
also not really for me, well made though
Honestly didn't notice I was listening to it until it was over
Nice folky rock fabulous lyrics and saxophone goodness. Loses a star because a man in a record store in a random Norwegian town told me he wasn't a nice bloke when he met him
3.5★. Very enjoyable (though a bit same-y) and nothing more.
I know many of these songs from bootleg Counting Crows live tracks! The deluxe version of this is overstuffed. I really enjoyed the studio feel of it - another thing the CC took away from VM. The reprises confused me; it felt like the album went on a long time or I'd accidentally set it to shuffle and repeat.
Not bad. Enjoyable in the first half.
It's good, deserve to be here but not as interesting personally
Eh, it’s nice as background music; Moondancer is a cool song. 38 minutes
Moondance is a great song, the rest is pretty good. 3.5 stars.
Everyone's favourite Grumpy Old Bastard, heard here as a younger, more fresh-faced, curmudgeon. This is a very pleasant and listenable album, filled with jaunty and upbeat tunes about love and not having love and all that sort of malarkey. The title track is my standout. That used to be my and my ex's song... sigh... I'm over it, I'm over it, I'm fine
some classics, not bad.
A great showcase of smooth piano work and great vocals
It's fun but I don't get a whole lot out of it. While I don't think there are any bad songs here, I also don't think there are any fantastic 10/10 songs here. Favorites were were Moondance, Into the Mystic, and These Dreams of You
This is a nice album and I have to say that the production is fantastic. That said the songs themselves didn't really do much for me. It's the sort of music that you use as background noise at a dinner party.
Sleek, soulful and sometimes even snazzy like on the snazz-jazz title track which is a shoe-in for top 10 songs that use the word ‘fantabulous’. Caravan is great. Come Running is great. Into The Mystic a bit overrated. Album gets more rag tag towards the end. Everyone a bit repetitious and out of place stab at baroque pop. 3.5 stars.
Time to rock….Gary, grab your flute! I don’t know if their flautist is named Gary but that sounds like the name of someone who plays the flute. All flutes aside, there is some mighty fine song writing on this album along with nice musicianship. 3.5 but rounding down because my wife asked if this “is the grocery store shopping mix” whilst listening to this in the car.
Ok
Most of the mark I gave this is for the title track, which has long been a favourite of mine and which I think is among a very small number of perfect songs. This is a pleasant album to listen to, it feels full of light and makes for smiles. And now I will go back and put the song Moondance on repeat and sing my lungs out for a while.
3.5-4
My mom's all-time favorite album and her favorite song. It's a chill record that retains just enough flair to avoid the Billy Joel cheese territory.
Not my fave Van, but important.
sympa la vibe
You know I don't love Van Morrison but it's tough to deny that he has good songs with great melodies that are pretty pleasant. This record was a fine drizzly Friday morning listen.
whatever
Nice listen
3/5
It sounds good Will I listen to again: 25%
Classics album not listen to it before but know a lot of songs
The spectre of brown eyed girl hung heavy over this. The last song was very much a rip off if it but the whole album had that general feeling. Not Van Morrisons fault I suppose, that's what he sounds like. The perks of having one massive hit that clouds the rest of your work. I don't mind the sound I suppose if I try really hard to forget brown eyed girl but it's not particularly exciting. Sounds authentic but could do with a bit more variation. 2.5.
Van Morrison is obviously a bit of a crank weirdo but he can make some good tunes
Expected a mix between Van Halen and Morrissey. Was disappointed.
For me it all kind of blended together into just a 38min long track. It's not bad, but not much stood out to me Standouts Moondance 3/5
nice
Felt like I was in an epsiode of the Wonder Years
I enjoyed this album! Nothing bad in it. Nothing amazing but a well crafted album all atound
Knew a lot of the songs without knowing I knew them. Songs are sweet but somewhat boring. I like Crazy Love and Caravan. Last 3-4 songs all sound like one never-ending song that is just Brown Eyed Girl with slightly different words.
Hardly A Van Morrison fan, but I enoyed much more than expected.
Somewhere at the center of r&b, folk, soul, jazz, pop, and soft rock is Van Morrison’s Moondance. Interesting sound here, as it’s a pretty sparse and mellow band that also features horns and occasional winds. Poetic love songs sung by a guy with an excellent voice and unique sound. Plenty of little ear worm hooks that get lodged in the brain. Pretty good record that certainly has classic status but won’t crack my regular rotation because it just never really gets me where I’m going. Easy to listen to but doesn’t grab me.
I can’t stress enough how ok this was.
Ambient songs!
Y'know, I've actually heard this album. Yeah, I know this kind of album isn't exactly in my normal wheelhouse, it's true. I heard it one time, years and years ago—I'd wager at least six or seven of the buggers. I believe I was tryna start listening to the entire 2012 Rolling Stone 500 list, and this was the only album I heard before I got distracted and forgot, but it's been so long, and with a memory like mine, I can't really say for sure. I'll say this much: I remember exactly as much about it from hearing it six or seven years ago as I do from hearing it an hour ago. Like, I'unno. Maybe I was just in the wrong headspace when I put it on, but it kinda just washed over me. Perfectly pleasant, except for some, like... Dips into jazz, I think? They were out of place and I didn't like them, whatever they were. But other than that, I remember better the fact that this guy made a shitty anti-COVID restrictions song with Eric Clapton than a single second from this, his most acclaimed album. Honestly, I just can't bring myself to care. Still, I'm willing to be generous and give this thing a 3, because even how forgettable it was, I don't think I disliked enough about it to go full-on with a 2. It's teetering, though, believe me. Sorry, Van. Y'jus' ain't "the man" to me.
Titular song is absolute fire, easy 5/5 song. The rest is just alright, nothing worse than like a 3. It's a 3/5 album, but damn if every song was as good as moondance this would be top 5.
A good listen.
Best songs : Into the mystic, Come running, Moondance Started off okay, then picked up a little in the middle, and then dipped really low by the end. Wanted to give it 3.5 stars when I heard Into the mystic and Come running, but there's not one good song after those two, and I skipped a couple halfway through. 3 stars because it's an easy going album that you can play in the background. Its very chill, and some songs have a nice, smooth, good feel to them. A mix of jazz, blues and country. Not bad. But not that great as well. Nothing I'd play again and listen to in full length on purpose. So maybe a 2.5? Not decided the rating yet. Will decide when I reach the rating page. I don't think there's an option to give half a star, so 3 it is.
Some of the songs really nice. Moondance the tune has worked its way into the jazz world and I've sung it myself as a "standard," so that gets some credit. Crazy Love and Mystic kinda stand out. But each song makes me think, hmmm I'd enjoy this so much more if someone else was singing. I wonder what this stuff would have sounded like if someone else had produced it. Also, just noting that this is the 16th album for me on this listening project and, aside from background singers and Carol Kaye on bass, there has been zero female representation.
Country rock ish with some blues and soul elements to it as well. A bit hard to place. Good album, but not for me. Pretty similar tracks throughout the album.
listen to again sweet. nice. favs are: crazy love? ig? glad tidings.
some easy listening
Aika tasapaksua. Kevyttä rokkia, vähän bluesmaista. Meni taas taustalla, mutta muuten vähän tylsähköä. Parhaat: Into the Mystic, Brand New Day
Much more folksy than I thought it would be
This album was... okay? I didn't love it. But I also didn't hate it. This is one of those LP's where it feels like the artist/band were having a few music sessions and just rolled with that for the release. Which can really go either way. It's either going to be a pretty fun listen, or it's not going to click overall with a wide audience other than the artist/band performing it; or just the hardcore fans. Maybe I'm in the minority seeing as 'Moondance' was a commercial success. That, or Van Morrison does just happen to have a huge hardcore fanbase. Once you have listened to the opener 'And It Stoned Me' - You can rest assured that this is pretty much the entire tracklist. If you like that 70's rhythm and blues sound, sprinkled with some jazzy rock 'n' roll, this will probably be right up your alley. Theoretically, this should be up my alley. But there's just not enough of a punch or variety to bring it up a level a level for me. Lyrically everything is fine. Morrison really goes in on spirituality and contextualises his observations and commentary through that spirituality. It feels inspired, hopeful, and his lyrics do flow nicely. For me, personally, I just can't find much to relate with. It's a decent album; and I think even if you're not a fan you can find something to appreciate here. Would I consider it a "must listen", though? Not really. But I also wouldn't tell you to ignore it completely.
Not as bad as I thought it was going to be, but I didn't have high expectations. Mostly it's fine, but And Then It Stoned Me is the only song I'd want to hear again and the album does tail of towards the end with a couple of real duffers.
A few great songs but the rest seems to be all the same. And It Stoned Me - Somewhat awkward beginning, soft, but delivers some good instrumentation. What is Jelly Roll? Moondance - Familiar song. Sounds like some old lounge songs. Good. Crazy Love - Too soft for me Caravan - Sounds like just another Van Morrison song Into the Mystic - Familiar classic. Good. Come Running - Starting to tire of this style These Dreams of You - Another similar sounding song to my ears with some solos Brand New Day - More of the same. I need some more energy Everyone - Forgettable Glad Tidings - Seems a little more upbeat but not enough
minha nota de vdd é 3½ ok ? PELO DIREITO ÀS MEIAS ESTRELAS ✊
Not particularly offensive, but not my thing
Good album.
3.5 pretty good
Extraordinary dad music, up there with Springsteen. Gravelly singer-songwriter schtik with a bit of additional jazz sophistication. He has a sort of sepia songwriting style that seems to mean nothing and everything. Lends itself cosily to film soundtracks, Belfast a great example, but occasionally evocative of a sort of weepy in-the-old-days sentimentality you may get watching that hovis advert from the 70s. With this album, Morrison switches his more experimental circumlocutory meanderings for more tightly composed, mature pop music. The unfortunate side effect is the album is both occasionally dull and appears in every middle aged man's car CD collection, which doesn't help matters. Moondance, as a track, has a swing affectation I personally despise but I can appreciate the weary cosy groove present in pockets over the rest of the album
While listening to this I feel like he looks on the album cover. This music is simply not nearly enough to trigger any meaningful emotional response from me, but it's perfectly pleasant to listen to.
So glad Van abandoned the styles of Astral Works and made this beauty. Much more upbeat and diverse. Title track is of course great (shout out to openmidz) but I say "Caravan" is my top track. "Into the Mystic" is also a lesser known great one. Woth 6 of 10 tracks hitting the mark...3.3.
Despite this album having a huge presence in our household I don't think I've ever listened to it in unison somehow. Not sure how I missed out for so long as Moondance has some quality tunes. Side A is fantastic and while Side B is weaker it is still good. I'm not huge on VM overall but Moondance deserves any praise it gets. I have to imagine this is Van at his best as many of his other work I've heard is relatively mellow and skippable. I suspect any remaining Van Morrison on the list will pale in comparison. I would be in favor of removing Astral Weeks as a start. 3.09 stars
Very calming record. It would be good to throw on during a relaxing evening.
Have Van Morrison and Dave Matthew’s ever been seen together? Just got a similar vibe between the two, not really the same musically I don’t know. It thought this was ok.
i was very sleepy but this was nice
It’s Van Morrison. You know what you’re getting and what you’re getting is fine for a couple songs. Title track is a great song, followed by schlock that would befit 2010s era singer songwriters in Crazy Love. The rest of the album is fine, but I cannot stand Crazy Love.
Very good
I love the song Moondance, but I found the album as a whole a little annoying. I can't quite put my finger on why. I think this one needs a relisten at some point.
6/10. It was pleasant, but not too groundbreaking or intriguing. :)
Having only heard of Van Morrison from the uber-popular "Brown-Eyed Girl", I was interested in this pull. I would put points against this album because even though it only had a 38 minute runtime, I ended up checking out mentally at parts, particularly in the back half. That being said, the initial 2 tracks were outstanding, and there were multiple songs on the record that wowed me. "Moondance" is a song I've heard for years and assumed it was a standard from the 50s or earlier, so I was pleasantly surprised to hear it on this album. For my money, that song should be his overplayed song over "Brown-Eyed Girl". In summation, there are times where Van's voice doesn't really thrill me and some of the songs were bland, but what I did like I really liked, and there's much more range to this artist than I anticipated. Notable Tracks: - And It Stoned Me - Moondance - did not know this was a Van Morrison original! - Brand New Day - Everyone - harpsichord integrated surprisingly well with the rest of the straight forward pop instrumentation 6/10
Pretty standard 70’s rock-folk with clear singing and good instrumentals. A lot of the songs blended together for me, but that’s his dedication to a style and nobody does it quite like him. The title track is famous enough that I’ve heard it in multiple places as an instrumental, including what I swear was broadcasts of an old Italian news program my parents would have on back in my youth. It’s an ear worm for sure. For someone in to the soft rock or pop jazz genres this is probably a masterpiece. For me it’s kinda pleasant background music.
All rather pleasant. Even ‘er indoors who normally doesn’t cope with music said so.
3 stars. decent but not exactly my thing
FAVO: Brand New Day, Everyone
I enjoyed listening to this album, he is such a crooner and whatever he sings sounds sexy! I too hope that @boopidoo's friend Claire got laid to Moondance, it is a pretty special track.
A friend in highschool wanted to lose her virginity to Moondance - I hope you got laid to the sweet dulcet tones of Van Morrison Claire.
Yeah this is a good album, great mix of folk and jazz, deserves its place on the list.
Bluesy, me likey
i thought this whole thing was going to be the usual singer songwriter folk album but moondance surprised me. besides moondance and into the mystic, i cant really get behind the rest of the tracks. nothing wrong with them since theyre all pretty easy to listen to, but just not for me. i enjoyed side a more than side b though. 3 personal favs: into the mystic
Enjoyable, easy to listen, nothing to write home about.
It was alright
An alright album. The first two songs were really strong but it kinda petered out after that. I do enjoy Moondance a lot though and never realized it was Van Morrison! Good voice and a fine album.
Very beige. Didn't hate it, but it flowed over me in a background, pleasant enough, but dull as ditchwater way. 3 stars.
decent
Somewhat different from the whole ordinary country tricks. Which I don't like. This one I respect for a different approach. 3.5/5.
Eh 3
3/5
Pretty good but really only came and left with the hits
Típico género canción. Mezclas de blues, folk... Buen cantante, es un meh.
The title track was great, rest just ok
Good
It's ok, but nothing really special on here. Moondance is probably the best song on here
If this were an instrumental album, I'd like it a lot more. Van Morrison has a voice like a cheap door alarm.
Better than brown eyed girl but still in the middle for me (2.5/5)
Correcto.
Crazy Love was the song I liked best. I didn’t mind listening to this but I wasn’t overly moved by it.
Je comprends pourquoi mais moyen mon genre.
Reminds me of Mom. So many great songs. I prefer Eric Burton for this style of singer. A bit more raw maybe.
Yeah it's alright
Highlights: Into The Mystic, Moondance. In a nutshell: a step up from Astral Weeks Van adopts producer duties Moondance, giving him maximum opportunity to fine-tune his trademark sound. This time, trying a soul and R&B focused approach than folk centric. It's good, just not mind-blowing. Props to Jack Schroer on alto sax and Colin Tilton on tenor sax. Top notch work by you two kind sirs. Overall: 6/10
I’ve heard of Van Morrison before but I wouldn’t have been able to name any of his songs. It was nice to recognise a few on this album so now I know he’s the ‘Moondance’ guy! Pretty short album, probably not one I’ll listen to again though.
Leichtes Album was sich gut hören lässt.
Great road trip music. Hippie vibes.
Kinda fell of after moondance, but I did like those first two songs. And flute
first listen
Van Morrison is kind of like David Bowie for me in that I don’t hate his music, but I don’t love it. It’s good….but not great. And, like Bowie, I find his voice a little awkward at times. For example, “Moondance”. Excellent song, annoying vocals. His phrasing is awkward and his voice a tad strident. If he lowered the key a few steps it’d help. Other songs were good (ie; Crazy Love), but they will never be favorites of mine. Solid album though.
Not something I would seek out, but damn, I wasn't mad at it!
could i write poetry to this? n
It's fine but *shrugs shoulders*
This album doesn’t really have much of an impact on me, but I feel like it might grow on me in the future. For now I’ll give it three stars.
Surprisingly pleasant. Was bored at first, but soon grew on me.
It's okay, little sqwawky, but songwriting is very good
Chill.
Finally, one I've heard already. First 6/10 tracks are no skip, then it gets kinda plain. Astral Weeks still better
Van Morrison is the kind of artist that I wouldn't choose to listen to on my own, but that I won't mind if it plays on the radio or whatever. First song was great.
Generic blues folk. Nothing bad, but nothing to make me stare at the ceiling in awe.
To me, this album was a little disappointing, being released after the incredible Astral Weeks. It sounds more like a "normie" Van Morrison. Still, it's enjoyable and worth a listen.
Some great songs, just not my style!
This album ain't bad, Van Morrison has a very distinct voice. There are some strong tracks here and some weak tracks, sort of evens itself out to be pretty average
Generally not my speed, but this was pretty good! I did not expect to enjoy a chill album from 1970 this much. 3.5.
It was just a phase.
The title track has a piano bar kind of vibe with the bass underpinning everything. All of the songs are pleasant and would be great background music. Which means it's stuck in the realm of *** albums for me.
Was never my favourite, continues not to be.
Not my normal taste but I appreciate it is very well made and was a nice refreshing change.
started at 6/10 then went up to like 7/10 for a big middle bit then i dont really remember the rest so like 3/5
The first couple of tracks were decently entertaining while not being super ambitious. I then really enjoyed crazy love- thought it was just quite sweet. Overall pretty Good
Pretty fun and enjoya6ble
The jazzy songs were fun but the album as whole was ok Favorite: Moondance Least: These Dreams of You
Yeah
liked it!
Tough to rate. Some good stuff, especially into the mystic. But overall not very memorable
I was expecting a bit more as this one feels like it should be a classic but found it a bit bland. Some nice moments but nothing really grabbed me and doubt I’ll rush to return to it.
It's a marvelous night for mediocrity. Look, I respect Van as much as the next guy, but I've never been a big fan of his whole thing. He's good, this album is...good? It's a heaping helping of soft rock that'll keep your dad happy till the cows come home.
Easy album to listen to. Not something I would have picked up myself but enjoyed it overall. Would consider it an easy album to put on and let play in the background of an overcast day.
Ok. 3/5.
yeah this is okay.
Nothing upset me with this album, but I sort of tolerated it.
3.5 really
this is like the fifth mediocre snooze fest in a row. like its not bad but its not good either. can this generator give me something that fucks.
This album is a lot of the same and it’s almost guaranteed that if you love one song you will love the entire album. Some really good songs, “Crazy Love” and “Into the Mystic.” Overall this album is far better than his 1973 album which seemed to be based on “Glad Tidings,” fucking hate that nonsensical lalalala noise and yelling.
A nice listen, I dont think I have anything to say sorry
Middle of the road and inoffensive.
I mean, yeah it's probably one you should listen to. I've heard it a lot over the years, so I'm good.
Meh.
A pleasant listen, but it didn't Rock My World.
Muligvis derfor. 🤷
It was a Brand New Day when I heard this one that gave me Glad Tidings. Wouldn’t say that I Crazy Love this album but it would make some Come Running.
Love the jazz incorporated into this.
I’ve no strong opinions on this. As inoffensive as music gets. 3/5
Good but dated lyricism, not really my thing. Highlates: And it stoned me, Brand new day
This is a quaint, rustic R&B album that I don't have any specific complaints about. With the good beats and bass lines acting as good foundations for many of these songs, they're pretty well-made, but I wish there was a little bit more vocal melody in some of these songs-especially the verses.
Album was average but probably saved by its last track, just made it audible.
Unique voice. Same song over and over again.
Easy listening.
A very pleasant album. Van Morrison has a very uplifting voice and he knows how to write songs for it. I sometimes found myself tuning out, but tuning back in was easy and I never disliked what I heard. I'll definitely be returning to this one.
I've decided to put aside my repulsion for Van Morrison's politics - none of it has anything to do with the music he published in 1970. This album features several classic songs that still hold up.
Some good songs, but I realize that Van Morrison only has the effective vocal range of about 3 or 4 notes.
3.2/5 Best Track: Caravan
Ok, but I didn’t get super into it
3.5 stars
Nice laid back album from one of the better performers of the era. Good stuff.
ok nis posebno
a okej nis posebno
Im not sure Ive ever listened to Van Morrison before, so this was a cool journey. Overall enjoyed the music and will be on the lookout for more down the road!
Entrainant, bonne voix.
I was born the year this album was released. I love Morrison’s young yet weathered voice. As I heard all these songs on the radio, mixtapes and at parties my whole life, I’m not sure I’ve listened to the whole album intact front to back. It is an odd collection of styles and moods, with Van Morrison’s voice trumpeting across each song to keep the thread throughout. Moondance is a series of frozen moments from teenage dreams 15-18 or so. I’m right back there as soon as I hear the intro. While Into The Mystic is maybe the best written song, And It Stoned Me is still the most indelible Van Morrison song. It seems like he really wrote his soul for it even if I don’t understand it. Some of the B side feels light, the A side is definitely stacked with the best compositions. But if I were seeing a band live in the sunshine in a park somewhere it would all wash over me real easy.
Chill at the side of the hill.
Didn’t give this my full attention when it played but it felt very reminiscent of the early 70’s, kinda a nice blend between R and B and rock. Didn’t feel compelled to add it but certainly a good record
I can’t bring myself to give this a higher rating. Fuck this guy.
It's a nice album if you can put aside Van Morrison's stupid conspiracy shit
Van Morrison’s earlier folk / soul albums are much preferred to his more recent Covid denying conspiracy nonsense
Gött att ha på i bakgrunden!
Like the album, great artist
Decent enough
Overall: Love the multi-genre influence that you hear throughout the tracks, but admittedly the horns did take me out of the vibes just a little bit. Which is odd, because I normally love horn sections. I'm not sure what it was about this album where it seemed just slightly distracting to me. Could hear the album again and be cool with it, but probably wouldn't seek it out. Favorite tracks: And It Stoned Me, Everyone, Glad Tidings Moondance brought me back to junior year HS jazz ensemble. Into the Mystic is a solid track, but the entire time couldn't help but think about some dude talking about, "but girrrrrrrrrrrrrl, I just wanna rock your gypsy soul" in the absolute greasiest way possible.
Repetitive. Easy listening.
Was torn between a three and four on this one. Really enjoyed most of the instrumentals, wasn’t the biggest fan of Mr. Morrison’s voice but it was mostly okay. And It Stoned Me, Moondance, and Crazy Love was such a strong opening run that I think the rest of the album suffers by comparison, wish more of the songs had been that good.
Nice pop rock instrumentals but I'm not a big fan of Van Morrison's voice.
Moondance is such a god damn bop. First half of the album was pretty strong. didn’t love the back couple tracks
eh. boring, but in a kinda relaxing way? nothing i'd listen to but not the worst of its kind
kinda groovy
Although I do like Morrison’s vocals, there isn’t a lot that stands out on this LP compared to a lot of other projects during the same era/in the same genre. Pretty alright overall though.
some bangers, some stinkers
Montane is a great track, rest of the album is ok, nothing can top brown eyed girl
Worth a revisit
Not bad. Easy to listen to, kind of background music. Won’t go out of my way to play it again but wouldn’t be mad if it came on.
Fun and stylish, but less captivating every year.
Piano / keys were nice. Otherwise kinda bland
another oldie soul pop album, sounds pleasant, but requires a certain mood. I feel that half of the list here is going to be albums like this one, albums that only matter to you if you grew up in the west
Strong opener with 'And It Stoned Me' that grabs your attention right away. Next up is Moondance which takes a completely different direction from the opener, not my usual choice of listening but a good song nonetheless. Overall enjoyable album.
Decent album
Ihan jees
Relaxed singer songwriter album, nothing crazy but not bad either
Man I was confident that Moondance was a Sinatra song. Ya learn something new every day. This was a good calm bluesy rocky kinda album.
Mysiga vibes.
I like this a lot. Of course I know Brown Eyed Girl (not on this record) and Moondance, which I didn't know was Van Morrison. I like the horns. I like the piano. I like the gospel, soul, R&B vibe. I just like it a lot. It's chill too. Will definitely explore his catalog deeper.
to mellow for my taste
Let’s just lay it out here that all the albums on this list are objectively good regardless of my rating. Van Morrison is a good singer, the musicians are also good. That said, I would never listen to this, it’s way too lounge-y. Listens: 2 Fave Track: Moondance Rating: 3
Not bad. Many songs were similar...
What a crooner! Great singing, enjoyable songs. If it were my style of music, I would absolutely add to my library.
Songs all sound similar and it was hard to judge when one ended and the other began. I know Moondance and still love it a lot. I'd only heard a cover of Crazy Love previously. Really like that song as well.
Van Morrison would have been something to see live!
Average wedding music
Really good except for the song Moondance. It doesn’t fit and really blows.
Not typically something I'd be into but I didn't mind it
It's good, but not mine
A bit torn on this one. I love the introspective stuff but can't be bothered with the uptempo songs.
That old miserable bloke VM sounds sprightly here with plenty of the ol Celtic soul. Nice, though not as good as the more looser Astral Weeks. Imo
I like this album. I do NOT, however, like the title track.
I get why it’s classic, it’s just not my era and doesn’t carry emotional weight with me
Solid, but not my thing
don’t like the dude but very pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the soft rock/jazzy instrumental choices. Including the flute! I also am recently engaged and feeling more romantic than usual
First two tracks are obvious classics. The instrumental palette is extremely nice across the album. The vocals on Crazy Love are way softer than I knew he could get. Everyone is very cute sounding, and I love the harpsichord.
Short and sweet
Moondance is definitely my favorite song by him. He’s one of those artists that is incredibly unique, like no one else, but I really can’t decide if it’s pleasant to the ear.
i find this album to be a departure from my usual musical tastes, as i have yet to fully connect with this genre; however, i can't help but appreciate its undeniable strengths; its tranquil and joyful disposition is truly appealing; while it may not be a personal favorite of mine, it undeniably boasts several commendable qualities !
Ok album, not a fan of the voice. Not sure why it's so popular
Van Morrison's soulful album is excellent. Simple, beautiful elegance. An easy listening record that serves as great music when lounging or working. A masterclass in soul, it is probably the album I'll go back to when referencing soul and looking for a record to play. However, I rarely look for an album in this genre. I've hardly heard of Morrison before listening to this record. Of course I knew of brown eyed girl but I just don't care that much about soul. Great album nonetheless and deserves its 3 star rating from someone not interested in soul.
Allt í lagi hlustun. Frekar einhæft.
Good, not great. Feels like a nice Rod trip album.
Route 66 travelling music
Legendary song moondance, a few good others, not bad.
Nice and short (sub 40 min) album. Moondance is a pretty (and classic) jam. Smooth jazzy instrumental featuring some piano, brass, and yazz flute backed by some toned down drum work and steady bass progression. Nothing revolutionary, but it is well done. Never heard Into the Mystic before, but it stands out against the rest of the album. Bass-driven melody that you can sink your teeth into with some more forceful vocal delivery. There's a certain aura to Van Morrison's work that I really enjoy. I think his raw vocal delivery has a vulnerable feel to it that makes the work feel personal. By comparison to Astral Weeks, which came up on here a few weeks ago, this album is much more structured, upbeat and full of sound. Between the two, I prefer the former as it has a more wistful and heartfelt atmosphere about it. This one feels more like standard classic rock fit (mostly) for closing down dancefloors. While I enjoy this just fine, I found the songs to be harder to separate and did not find many particularly interesting in their composition. Solid 3 / 5 entry for me.
Decent, not my style
this album sure was fine. pleasant enough but all the songs kinda just blended together. also i guess van morrison is an antisemitic anti-vaxxer now SO THAT'S GREAT favorites: moondance, into the mystic (i know it was the 70s but cool g-slur bro)
This is too much Van Morrison for me in one sitting. I did like "Into the Mystic" though.
3.5 if I could
It's nice, but feels pretty middle of the road.
Wait he has more songs than brown eyed girl
Ok
Overall, I have pretty lukewarm feelings on Moondance. The music is nothing to write home about, the lyrics are kinda average and the vocals were okay at best. On its own, this album merits nothing more than a 2 star rating but with a bunch of good little things about it, i will bump it up to a three star rating Best Song: Into the Mystic Worst Song: Everyone
Really good album, just not my kind of music
Only a few tracks are available on tube so... ah well. Average.
it's a good record! too bad Van Morrison turned into an anti-science shitbag
Decent album by van Morrison standards
Better than expected honestly
1. And It Stoned Me (3.5) - pretty funk/blues feel, reminds me of Ray LaMontagne 2. Moon dance (4?) - I mean, an iconic song but it's not one of my favorites 3. Crazy Love (3.5) a really Motown feel, a Marvin Gaye cover would have been cool 4. Caravan (4) - I'm giving this one a 4 just because of the great la-la-la-la section - very bluesy, this is the one Amy Gardner was singing with Josh ("Radio! Radio!") … best one on the album so far 5. Into The Mystic - (4) this is really one I could see Ray LaMontagne writing and performing. Very folky. 6. Come Running (3.5) - piano blues with a bass shuffle behind, good blues singing 7. These Dreams Of You (3) - good twelve bar blues with harmonica - ugh, a terrible sax solo 8. Brand New Day (3.5) - 9. Everyone (1) - ugh, this sounds like something written for hippies to skip to, it sounds like either a flute or penny whistle with a glockenspiel in the background. It was a 2 until the end which seemed like it was written specifically to piss me off, so it gets a 1. 10. Glad Tidings (3.5) trying not to have a hangover from the previous song.
A bit too folky for me
Nice!
Nice sweet songs
3/5 by my rating scale.
Nice album with good vibes. Not my favourite genre in the world, but still alright. 3/5
„Brand new Day“ ist nix. Dafür Caravan und Moondance super. Wegen wirklich lahmer Nummern nur 3/5
a little disappointing. but still pleasant and inoffensive
The title track is familiar. Overall OK, interesting vocals. Not bad but not something I'll seek out.
Why is he singing like he just had a tooth extraction and half of his mouth is anesthetized. It's fine. Can't say I'm a fan of his voice, but I enjoyed some songs.
wonderful album. Shame he's an anti-science wanker tho.
It was great album. I didn’t really listen to it. I skipped through it, but the songs are really catchy. I’ll make sure to listen to it throughout.
Does anyone remember that old blog-turned-book called Stuff White People Like? I should dig out my copy to see if Van Morrison is in it, because he should be.
mid. 3
This is a pretty alright blues and jazz inspired album a strong 3/5
Meh
Good music for a beautiful Bay Area morning 3/5
2.5
I think he would enjoy this so therefore a 3/5
Moondance is a banger. Decent. 3 / 5 stars.
Listened Before? N I have heard a few songs off this album and until today I couldn't have told you who they were by. Now I know. This is a solid album and his sound is great. Really enjoyable. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: Into the Mystic
Fairly fun listen.
Well its van morrison
An okay album, doesn’t really stand out. Only two songs I really enjoyed was Glad Tidings and Into the Mystic
My dad prefers this album over Astral Weeks, I’m the other way. Definitely some great tracks on this one though
Inoffensive but dull. Well crafted.
