Reviews (page 12 of 13)
It sounds like something I could like, but I don’t. None of the songs make me want to listen to them again, and I’ve tried to listen to it thrice. Not for me
Didn’t make me as nervous and jumpy as the last Talking Heads album I got, but was still somewhat unpleasant. And I say that as someone who really thought they liked Talking Heads! This band is so confusing!!!
Wasn’t too bad, didn’t leave with much I’d like to go back to but overall, better than I’d hoped for.
I got tired and boring with this album and with David Byrne in general
Yeah I’m really not too sure this needed to be on here, outside of Take Me To The River there are no iconic or unique moments worthwhile. Love Talking Heads but this one isn’t it
This band stopped being interesting 3 entries ago.
No
I really don't understand why this album is on this list. It really seems to be The Talking Heads looking for their style. There are very few interesting songs, and David's vocals don't even shine on this album. Other than a handful of groovy moments, disappointing and should not be on this list. 1.7/5 ->2/5.
I’ve never listened to an entire Talking Heads album up to now. The music was more intriguing than I expected, but David Byrne sounds like Max Headroom after a few too many rum and Cokes for most of the album. I think I’ll never listen to another entire Talking Heads album again.
I can't listen to David Byrne's vocals without getting a splitting headache. Something about the way that guy sings makes me feel like the walls are closing in on me. Like a genuine anxiety attack. I've now heard every pre-'85 studio album of theirs. I think it's time to throw in the towel and admit that I wasn't built for this band.
Thoroughly underwhelming and very disappointing. Meandered its way to nothing special. Literal road to nowhere.
Not sure why but I couldn’t really get into this. The sound just didn’t do it for me. Lengthy instrumentals without much happening. Highlights: With Our Love
Someone told me their favorite band was talking heads once. This album got me no closer to knowing why.
Album peaks with the 2nd and 3rd to last songs, until then there just wasn’t really a melody that had me wanting to really focus on the music. The singer was disappointing, and a bit unfocused for much of the album.
One word grating With the exemption of the last 4? jam type song, I found the music very messy and unresolved. Also he sings like someone's squeezing his nuts and tickling his gooch.
Not my cup of tea; fairly boring rock music. Lyrically decent.
It was alright, i liked the instrumentals better than the vocals. my favorite songs on this project currently are: I’m Not in Love, The Good Thing, and Found a Job. however the end part of The Big Country was fun.
I’m not crazy about this album. The overall sound wasn’t really my thing and I feel like there was a lot of things that felt like they were missing. I probably won’t go back to this much. 5/10
Have always heard of these guys, but never took the time. Kind of weird, don't know if I would re-listen...I feel like I'm supposed to like this, but just can't muster it.
Take Me To The River is good but it is the only song worth more than one listen so 2 stars or D- for the album.
That's not my taste in musik. Bring.
Eh, it’s fine. Nothing stood out and grabbed my attention.
...?
Talking Heads, rock, nichts besonderes
Yeah sorry I'm in the "Don't get it" camp when it comes to Talking Heads, they have some great singles and they do mostly sound like themselves, not anyone else. Just find it generic of itself. Don't think they are as revolutionary as people say expecially given all the grat stuff that was happening in the late 70s and early 80s despite the singer's "oh so quirky" delivery and the energetic rthyms it's all a bit samey for me, and bland.
More spazz-rock I could have done without. I really struggle to understand what would lead someone to make an album of these songs? A hate of music? Over-intellectualizing music? Autism? Whatever it was, it's not worth agonizing over. I listen and I move on.
I'm more fan of Remain In Light. Songs here are catchy too, but I can only remember the sound of Take Me Too The River. The rest is really blurry.
I appreciate Talking Heads but less of what has made them cool to me was present here than I expected.. maybe more of this comes in later albums?
This was really obnoxious. I tried but his voice on this album is just peak irritating.
Pari kappaletta pitää kuunnella uudelleen, mutta ei ole omaan makuun tämä.
I’m actually okay with fewer songs about buildings and food thanks
Actively annoying.
The songs suck but the cover is superb 😙👌
David Byrne's voice it's unmistakable. 2.3/5
This album made me feel schizophrenic Favorite song: The Good Thing Rating: 2.0/5
I was not impressed with this album. One of my “things” is having songs change tempo and change from nearly track to track. This is one level to me. Sort of what it would be like if someone told these guys to play and sing when they are very tired and feeling sad. Choice cut: The Big Country
Take me to the river ?? Nan dsl c une chanson de lorde Mtn
Eh, it was ok. Not anything aoecial
Ugh. How many Talking Heads albums are on the list? This is my 2nd and it's two too many IMO. At least these songs have more than 1 chord (unlike Remain in Light). Their version of Take Me To The River is a classic. Liked songs added: - Take Me To The River
“The Good Thing” is a really solid song but outside of that the album feels choppy with odd and unfinished production. The album wasn’t my cup of tea.
What a blast. So weird and fun. I love how the bass lines kind of drives the music forward. The guitar riffs are unorthodox and almost funk, but never fully committing to the bit. Which I think is imperative for their sound. They synths keep it all around interesting. Not sure if this is my favorite Talking Heads record. Despite being such a unique record, there aren't too many songs that stand out to me. I kind of like them all equally, which is probably why this album deserves more listens. I'm certain there is something I'm missing. Something that is undeniable, is how tight this record is. Everything is really well produced and immaculately put together. Its like they were harnessing their silliness into a serious art form with this record. I had a blast with this one. I'm hoping we get some more Talking Heads down the road!
Just altogether meh
Not bad. I do love Take Me To The River.
They're so overrated. They're just another one of those '70s-'80s British bands with annoying half-moaning-half-singing lead vocals. They have rock-ish instrumentation but it barely made them listenable.
Kind of a mess of an album, with random almost riffs with no building. Except take me to the river which I liked. Plus i don't like his voice
What is the fuss about this band? Smother me with that gigantic jacket please
Yeah, it's not their best album
Not a big fan of Talking Heads. I like one song from this album
Talking Heads are so often touted as one of the "classics" - to be revered, reviewed, and NOT reviled. Everyone loves the Talking Heads, right? Not this guy. David Byrne's vocal is rightly criticised by many listeners, because it just sounds plain bad. Almost to the point that it sounds like he's trying to sabotage the other instruments' sound (which is otherwise pretty solid). It's often atonal, arrhythmic, slurred, and bored-yet-strained. That's just about the only criticism I have, but Byrne places himself so front-and-centre in the music that it very nearly destroys the entire album. Everything else is good, if a little samey in places. The opening track, Thank You for Sending Me an Angel, uses a simple yet satisfying chord progression and powerful guitar for a great start to the album. (Seriously. By the end of this track, I was thinking, "at this rate the album's getting 4 stars".) The next two tracks featured more varied guitar lines/licks, with some energetic drumming and bass playing. Unfortunately, the vocal gets more and more unappealing as the album progresses, and it's difficult to really groove as much as the other reviewers seem to be doing. I'm jealous. 2/5 Key tracks: Thank You for Sending Me an Angel, The Good Thing, Take Me to the River
Talking Head sounds like a stiffer Roxy Music here. I gave remain in light a four as that was a more dynamic and exciting experience. But this album doesn’t speak to me. There are no real memorable tracks here. Just a steady, stiff attempt at a groove.
Boring
The music itself is good, but I absolutely can't stand the vocals on this album. I have heard "Remain in Light" before and that album is overall so much better, than this one.
Википедия нашептала, что в этом списке 4 альбома данной группы - штож, очень интересно конечно...
I have never been a big Talking Heads fan, but it could have been worse.
they do a mean cover of the Big Mouth Billy Bass "take me to the river" song. :)
Absolutely mediocre at best. Odd lead singing voice does not appeal to me. Enough of this band...ugh.
Liked “Take Me to the River” but man David Byrne‘s voice is so annoying on some of these songs.
I really wanted to like this album. Unfortunately, the only song I actually enjoyed was a cover. Two stars because I was able to finish the whole album.
I never could get into Talking Heads. For me, it's just New Wave Meets David Byrne's Manic Vocals. This album is just a case in point. 2/5
p410. 1978. 2 stars. There are some half decent tracks here, and Brian Eno's production is fantastic - but I can't be doing with David Byrne's voice, he sounds like a dog with its leg caught in barbed wire.
Gave it a second listen just to see if I was suffering from the grrrr mondays. Still don’t think this is too great of an album, band is chaotic and fun but I still don’t vibe with the lead singers voice on anything but psycho killer.
The band was really good, but i didn't connect with the main vocalist. The main singer feels one-dimensional. I feel a lot of there songs could've benefitted from back up vocals to add a bit of shape and flavour. The band was really amazing, feel like the songwriting and vocalist let them down and limited the band. For example, warning sign had this amazing build up and beat but the vocals did not live up to the vibe. Vocals felt very primitive and shallow.
Enjoyed the music more than the vocals, as per usual. 2/5
Instrumental work could be worth a 3, but the singing really dragged this down
Wasn't a huge fan of this one tbh
Thought I was going to like this, but I didn't.
i listened to this right before bed and now i’m angsty
Nej, nej. Mest lite jobbigt. Aldrig asdåligt. Men soundet och meh. Sången bitvis störig. Rätt tråkigt överlag.
Talking heads be so frustrating. I want to like them but they put so many repetitive boring songs on all their albums. Like they only have 2-3 songs worth a damn on every album
It's decent, but the songs are practically completely similar. The vibes felt nice on the first few songs, but as it progressed, the similarity made me feel a little bored. Minus points for the vocalist's horrible voice.
Song I Like Take Me to the River
Meh....
Tried to enjoy this. There was some great riffs and melodies but the singing was just too much. It's ok in short doses but not a whole album.
Arthouse that never really gets out of second gear
Investigate more
Very similar to the other Talking Heads album on this list that I've already listened to and reviewed. It's ok, not something I found myself raving about or even nodding along to, but listenable.
So and so. Not melodic enough
No me gustó mucho.
the band is doing a great job while the lead singer is near unlistenable. most of the songs sound the same, which is to say the album was tough to pay attention to
Was having a much better time with this talking heads album until warning sign. And the song after that. And the one after that. And then I was like ah fuck yep this is a talking heads joint. Then it recovered a bit! I would listen to some of these songs again, but never in album form.
This is an album where I feel like you’re enjoyment is heavily dependent on your appreciation of the vocalist. And I think he’s awful. The music is cool though, especially in the second half. I don’t get the appeal at all tbh
Interesting music. Awful vocals.
Not for me. Feels erratic. I’m Not In Love is ok. Almost all the rest of the songs sound the same.
Talking Heads are claimed as one of the best band sin the world and I just don't get it. Upon listening, it's kind of cool. But nothing stands out. There isn't a wow factor for me. I forgot David Byrne was in this band (shows how much I pay attention to this band/him) but I don't really care for Byrne. Probably contributes to me not caring about this band that much, aside from this band not doing much for me. Nor does New Wave music. The best part of this band is the percussion. The rest, I don't really care for.
Too random
it didn't reach me, don't know why, thought it was a little clumsy
A very average album. Not much exciting as a whole. Some of the songs musically were enjoyable but were ruined by the vocals
A bit too quirky for my taste. Just didn't sit too well with me, wasn't necessarily bad just not something I feel I want to listen to again. Was certain it was going to be a 2 star but the last 2 songs pushed it to a very strong 2, if only the rest of the album had more the type of groove as "Take Me To The River".
1,5 ster.
Blech, ugh. Too experimental/rogue like a jazz performance without the soul.
Never liked Talking Heads, mainly the vocals, I just don't like David Byrne's voice. Never heard this album before and figured it might change my mind; it didn't.
Ok, would not really listen to on my own
Talking Heads 77 was better - I'm disappointed by this, seems directionless. Like the genre, just don't think this album in particular is anything special - positive sound, very forgettable.
Not another Talking Heads albums on this list! Just like the others I liked a couple of tracks but most had that annoying New Wave sound that I heavily dislike. Highlights: Thank You for Sending Me an Angel Take Me to the River
Just not my thing.
mmmm la primera cancion esta buena pero nose pinta q no me va a gustar mucho neee me canse al segundo tema asiq nose estoy escuchando el tema mas conocido y lo dejo creo, no es mi estilo.
Decent but only ok
meh
alright but nothing crazy
songs 1-2 The guitar and bass is sometimes super catchy, the lyrics and singer is however annoying. songs 3-4: Catchy drums and guitar. Does not stick tho Only good song imo is Take me the river
I've tried listening to the Talking Heads several times and never enjoyed their stuff. I thought this album might be different... it was not. I just cannot get past David Byrne's jerky vocals. It's grating to me. Respect to all those who do love the Talking Heads though.
Based on the title I thought I would enjoy this more. I liked the drums the best. The singer’s voice and the genre maybe made the songs seem samesy.
Fav song: stay hungry
Mūzika ok, bet viņa balss mani sit laukā no sliedēm. :(
Mwa
I should have expected David Byrne would not shut up given that the band is names Talking Heads. Jokes aside, I disliked his vocals through the whole record. In fact, my favorite song was "Artist Only", where his presence is an anecdote. The band and the tracks themselves are not objectively bad. I can see the quality behind them and why they could be liked by other people.
L'he hagut de deixar a mitges perquè m'estava saturant. No crec que sigui un mal àlbum i potser un altre dia m'hagués vingut més de gust i l'hagués gaudit més. Jutjant-lo de manera neutra, potser li posaria 2.5 estrelles, però avui m'ha entrat fatal.
Maybe it's an important album when considering the trajectory of the band's career and sound. But I don't think I needed to hear it before I died.
Not really for me.
I mean I guess I could listen to this. It was interesting but I was ready to be done with it after the second song. None of them really did it for me
It did not click for me
If the point of this pick of an album was to point out the curator here really, but really, likes Talking Heads, then they really went to extremes, because I got that point already many of their albums ago.
Okay but not my style.
Super fun and fresh, just not my thing on the specific day I listened to it.
12. It's exactly what you'd expect from a Talking Heads album. 1 or 2 good songs accompanied by a lot of weird. 2/5: meh
Wasn’t a fan, but could casually hear in the background if I had to
Not my thing at all. The “hit” from this album is the Big Mouth Billy Bass song!? Lmao
This album wasn’t the best. There were some cool moments, and a lot of the songs were musically interesting. But it also felt a bit monotonous; a lot of the same good thing gets a little boring. The guitar, bass, and drums were all great but felt very similar from song to song. There were some interesting song structures, too. I’m really not a fan of the lyrics or delivery of the vocals, however. I’d say the album has its moments with I’m Not in Love and Artists Only. Those have great guitar parts! I kind of wish the album was an instrumental. That would eliminate the slightly annoying vocals, uninspired lyrics, and would force the songs to experiment more structurally.
Great funky tracks, pretty credible on the guitar and the drums and also pretty eventful songs although quite repetitive, really couldn’t get into the voice of the singer though. Heard about other records from them from friends of mine that I liked much more so I guess this one is just really not for me and probably not their best work either
Not for me.
I do not like his voice. I do not particularly care for the music.
Talking heads have a distinct sound and I am not here for it.
Not really my type of music.
Heel appart weer dit
Seichtes Rockalbum.
Best Song: Thank You For Sending Me an Angel. It is the best because it is the shortest. Less is more here. Worst Song: The Girl Wants to Be with the Girls. That little doorbell ringing is like water torture. Overall: One continuous, bouncy string of songs. It all blurs together pretty quickly, until all that you're left with is the ever-presence of this staccato rhythm that flicks you on the brain in steady 4:4 time. Music to (rhythmically) beat your head against the wall to.
It was okay. Not too much for me
BEST SONGS: -The Girl Wants to Be with the Girls
I just don't like Talking Heads
After a while, the singers voice becomes really annoying. Also not very memorable
It was alright. I like Talking Heads, and it sounded like Talking Heads.
While I would never argue that the Talking Heads should not be included in the list of 1001 albums you must hear before you die, I will 100% argue that THIS album is completely unnecessary to have on the list. It's more of the same, but probably lesser than other Talking Heads albums that have already been included. Even the title of the album shrugs that it's unnecessary. So then, what are we doing here?
Its an interesting album but hard to connect with
Fairly fun rock, but drags on a bit
Not for me.
This was an ok album. Not sure if I’ll return for more but I may comeback and give it another shot.
Kind of boring and doesn't do anything for me.
Was a bit too alternative, not really my style. too much mumbling, to little singing
Still figuring out who they are; Burn's vocals are more confident now, the rhythm section is tighter, more forward and expressive, but the song writing is still hit and miss, and it's telling that the high point on the album is a cover.
I need to listen through a few more times. With my first listen, I didn't really enjoy it so I'm hoping I can change my mind in the future. The album itself is, as expected, much more outside the bounds of what you'd find in more mainstream spaces, and that's a good thing. We need more abstract and experimental sounds, and we need more influences beyond Americana. It just didn't have the right shape in my brain initially to mesh well together.
meh
lacking in psycho killer
Oh, look. That one hit wonder has another one hit wonder album and here are all of those other not hit songs.
Not as memorable hooks as their later catalog. I understand the importance of this record, but it doesn't do it for me.
I find their music all sounds the same. And while I enjoy the vocalist’s voice, I just don’t like their music enough to enjoy a full album of it.
Not a genre I'd listen to normally. Didn't find the music particularly interesting.
They have so many good songs, none of which were on this album seemingly. Wasn’t awful and didn’t hate it, but pretty run of the mill. Wouldn’t hurry back to this one.
2.5
The fourth Talking Heads album we've had and my lowest rated. No idea if this album was considered cutting edge at its time, but in my book, being eclectic and unpleasant in the late 70's is by itself not enough to remain relevant 45 years later.
Hmm. I guess without this album there'd be no Little Creatures, which I absolutely love. But I found this one quite disappointing.
More like a 2.5, not my favorite of theirs.
The least of the Brian Eno Talking Heads albums. Take Me to the River unfolds at such a leaden pace that it’s my least favourite of their hits. They pick up speed after this.
Meh
Talking heads can also shove it
Vähän tasapaksua, ja siksi laulajan valittava ääni alkaa ärsyttää. En saanut mitään irti, muttei tätä vihatakaan voi. Haaleaa.
Kun ihmiset puhuvat "vaihtoehtorockista", he eivät tarkoita tällaista, mutta heidän pitäisi. Kohokohta: Take Me To the River - vaihtoehtoista CCR:ää.
Clever and interesting but just lacks good tunes. The last three tracks are really good (Stay Hungry, Take Me to the River and The Big Country) because they have actual melodies. Too much filler in the rest though.
Solid sounds, not particularly my style but enjoyable background at work music. Nothing stuck out much. But I appreciate their artistry
I actually enjoy the music a good amount, but the singing is too much all over the place for my taste, unfortunately. Had to stop half way.
2 Talking Heads are an artist multiple people have recommended I dig into, but I have just never been able to get. Supposedly they invented new wave, a genre I'm normally a big fan of, but I just don't really hear it. What I hear instead is annoying vocals and guitar jangles accompanying what sounds like an attempt at funk. This band has its moments, but none of the particularly notable ones are here. After listening to this album a couple times, I’ll admit Thank You For Sending Me an Angel grew on me a bit, and Take Me to the River is fine enough, so I’ll round up to a 2 from my initial rating of 1.5. Every other song is a pass from me though.
Not really a fan of this, but it was definitely better than the last few, so that gives it an extra star.
Meh couldn’t finish the album
Minimal dancy art rock from 1978. Probably quite far ahead of its time. Rating: 2.5/5 Playlist track: Thank You for Sending Me an Angel Date listened: 07/11/22
wEiRd. I like how zaney it is, songwriting is pretty good, but not a lot stuck out to me
Pop ochentero bastante parecidas las canciones entre sí. No destaca especialmente, aparte de que la voz del cantante tampoco ayuda mucho
Favorite Songs: Thank You for Sending Me an Angel, Artists Only, Take Me to the River The album was quite average to me, the lyrics weren't very special and I didn't enjoy the lead singers vocals - they felt like they needed to mature. The Big Country literally has lyrics, "Goo goo, ga-ga-ga". I enjoy some of their other hits when the singers voice has matured.
I liked some of the songs, but most of them were repetitive and jarring
Usually I like weird, experimental and proggy... but so far this isn't clicking
The problem with the Talking Heads is that I am not sure whether I like their music or whether I find it intensely irritating. If I think about it then it appears that I like to be irritated, which is weird. In general I do not choose to listen to them, but if a track of theirs appears I don't skip it or change the station (depending on whether it is streaming or radio), I don't own any of their material (from back in the day). This album is typical Talking Heads - lots of strong rhythms, slightly of key vocals with the voice used more as a percussion instrument than for melodic purposes. I found, listening to this that I can take about five tracks before having to take a break - which is not good. It may have worked in the days of vinyl - listen to one side of the album at a time, but today with streaming it is too much
not for me.
I don't like Talking Heads, and More Songs About Buildings And Food is really not that good. It's not my style of music at all and they always get thrown into 'rock band' categories. They're not. 2/5, nothing worth remembering here.
Oh no, Sounds like a a funk fever dream, James Brown in uncanny valley. With Our Love might be one of the worst tracks I've ever heard from a band I actually like. This has convinced me that Brian Eno as a producer is just not for me. Reading all the positive reviews and I'm convinced that anyone who calls this danceable has never actually tried. To be fair, it picks up a little towards the middle of the album but nothing sticks out through the badly appropriated staccato guitar playing until I'm Not In Love, which is more like what I was hoping for going into this. I actually like David Byrne's vocal delivery on the Talking Heads songs I love but when the tracks are just mediocre the grating elements really come into sharp focus. Bleh - 2/5
Not my cup of tea
fav song - warning sign - cool warped echo on the drums and vocals - super interesting guitar parts - spooky and groovy least fav - the girl wants to be with the girls - annoying synth & guitar lead, strange mixing choices
I don't know about this one. not sure why.
I guess I expected the Talking Heads to sound more synth-y (a la Burning down the House). The music was more rock than I expected but I guess this album was part of their transition. Too bad the only good song isn't even their song.
Not for me
I don’t really like David Byrne’s voice. I can take it in small doses. There is one good song here and a bunch that are meh.
I really don't have much to say about this one other than I still haven't fallen in love with the Talking Heads. Nothing terrible here, but nothing that made me want to listen to it again. Those jangly clean guitars funking away… I don’t know. Not my thing. I like the cover art? That'll have to do. Oh, also I still remember that so-so John Travolta movie from the 90s called A Civil Action, which was about a lawyer taking on a company which had polluted the water in a small town and people got cancer from drinking it. The movie ended, the credits rolled, and up comes the Talking Heads singing “Take Me to the River.” Haha. What a terribly lazy choice.
2.3⭐️
It was okay, didn’t blow my mind
Good opener
Was kinda zoned out the whole time but didn't rlly find it interesting
How much arse quantifies as Arse? Do you divide boring by not interested or times shit with bollox. To summarise man sings in uninteresting way whilst music is played boringly, the highlight was a cover which they made Arse which is a shame as I really like the original, which they have tarnished.
malgré un titre prometteur, je n’ai pas été convaincue je dirais même que j’en ai ras la casquette des groupes mediocres aux ambiances 80s oui cest ca
This guy sounds like he’s got a broken noise and is being constantly punched in the diaphragm in cut time. I’d say the guitar solos were repetitive and too long lived, but at least they give you respite from his verbal hiccups.
The Talking Heads only seem interesting for about three and a half minutes.
05/13/2022 Hate the voice, lol. Not at all what I want to listen to.
i really don’t like his voice at all. it was dragging along and i don’t hate this band but this album was something different. it was just not good to listen to.
Not as good as I expected it to be, nothing stood out
I REALLY want to like Talking Heads, and love both Tom Tom Club and some of Byrne’s other work, such as Bush of Ghosts. But I just feel like they are trying too hard to be ‘quirky'. None of the tunes grabbed me here, particularly. Was pleasant throughout, without really grabbing my attention at any point.
I don't know. It's really weird. Not my jam, I'd say.
Boring
Just not my vibe
This album did very little for me. I can't even really remember much about it and I've only just finished it!
David Byrne is a terrible singer. The only redeeming quality I found here is that each song has a clear theme to it, but musically and lyrically. It's a clever sound.
I went back just then to listen to take me to the river because I wanted to make sure of my opinion. Bear with. Okay, I relistened to their most played. Not my cup of tea. I recognise its historical significance. Just not something that's actually pleasing to listen to.
Decent but not my style. Unlikely to listen to it again.
Some good tunes but tiring after a while, specially due that weirdly emphatic singing style
Ritmo interessante, mas sem empolgar.
Ik weet hoe bepalend zij muzikaal zijn geweest, maar ik kom er maar niet doorheen. Vooral die zang ergert me regelmatig.
meh
That voice does nothing for me.
I didn't super enjoy it honestly. Something about it sorta gets on my nerves. I feel like I need to give this another listen at a different point in my life. It felt pretty meh overall. Not for me.
Meh.
“The head” from art attack was the best talking head
Ne volim ih jebiga
meh
As weird as the title suggests.
I kind of like the sound but overall quite forgettable and won’t encourage me to explore them beyond the few “greatest” hits
Fine. annoying at work
Herrje. Nee, find ich nichts wirklich dran. Hat auch schon so einen "wir sind ganz dolle intelligente underground typen"-anstrich.
I was not a fan of this album, even it having what I'm assuming is the original Take Me to the River. I liked both covers I have heard better. I'm not sure why, as I was a fan of their other album but this one felt very strange, wasn't a fan of the vocals nor the music.
Meh
Olvidable completamente
2
Meh.
2/3
Not my cup of tea. Skipped through because I'm not feeling the vocalist or the instrumentals. Swing and a miss.
Every song sounds the same. Not for me.
Almost didn't finish it. Not a fan
eh not for me
Never loved this band. Sorry.
Meh don't really like the Talking Heads
meer ouwelullen rock
Saai
Didn't really like it.
Tyhjänpäivästä renkutusta
Ihme sekameteliä koko levy, ei enää.
Kinda humdrum
Such a Meh band.
Nyt ei lähe. Ei sitten millään. Vaikeuksia teki saada tää kahlittua ees läpi 😅 Jotenkin ei vaan aukene tän hienous mulle.
Not my thing at all unique =/= good
garbage, not even music
His voice is so annoying, now I have a headache. This actually pissed me off The only semi-passable song is "Take Me to the River", but even that is ruined by weird vocals and is not enough to save this album from a 1 star. 1/5 stars
Very boring album, looked like the beatles to mee and didnt bring anything special or different.
Etter å ha hørt alt for mye på dette i denne lista er konklusjonen klar: Gubberock fra 60/70-tallet holder seg veldig dårlig. Dette var tidvis både kjedelig og slitsomt.
Didn't care for them back in the day and still don't care for them.
Not my jam Take me to river was pretty nice tho
Opinión: More Songs About Buildings And Food es un álbum raro, no me gustó escucharlo, me costó escucharlo, capaz tendría que darle una segunda chance en otro momento pero creo que este post-punk no me va, temas tan incómodos con voces raras, son como letras irónicas, nada literal, siento que serían mucho mejores si contasen historias y los sonidos los siento monótonos. Nota: 1/5⭐️
абсолютно мимо......................
This album is not that good, but I'll say that I kinda like "The Good Thing" which automatically makes it the best Talking Heads album.
Right off the bat: The vocals are badly mixed. It feels like someone played back the vocals from a tape while the band was recording. It's heavily masked by the instruments and barely intelligible. Musically it feels like an exploration of the intersection between rock and punk aesthetic, landing somewhere that may have been novel at the time but has no lasting appeal. It is a product of its time for its time, and that time has passed. My instant dislike for the mix and the style only deepened throughout the listen. Even the "best" song on the album (Take me to the river) is a repetitive slog. Happy to put this one in my past.

As far as I can hear and see there are no songs at all on this album about buildings and food. Seems a breach of the Trades Description Act to me in very much the same way Talking Heads breach it in relation to music. Just checked my history and seen that when I was served up Talking Head albums previously something bad happened. One befell Leeds United at Wembley. Today my beloved Whites are away at Aston Villa so I now know how that ends. My history also indicates that this is the last book album on the list (hurrah!) although some fool has nominated another one as their user album so still another one to endure. 1/5 21/2/26
Absolutely dross. I can't see how anyone gets any enjoyment out of this.
not for me
no i didnt like tris one one so sorry
there's something i don't like ab it, it sounds cool and everything but not my style
Maybe I just wasn’t on enough drugs on a Monday afternoon to fully appreciate this album… but I found the majority of it to be really, really annoying.
Meh
32. not good
1,3/5
Really repetitive and boring 1/5
Every piece of art should be allowed to exist. I found it hard to accept this statement while listening to this album. The flimsy vocals were tediously off-key, the melodies repetitive and boring, the mastering had a strong focus on the ear-piercing high mids and the whole listening experience was kind of unnerving. From song 2 or 3 on I was waiting for the record to be over.
A love the name and album cover. Didn't quite like the album; not made for me. I'm not the person to enjoy the 80s movement and with the voice, the simple repeating chords and instruments, it just wasn't what i need right now :(
One of the bands I had never even heard about before. And I am kind of glad about it. This attempt at goofy/funky music really landed flat on its face. None of the songs stand out and they sound really repetitive.
Supongo que tras una década muy intensa, el mundo necesitaba música que no dijera nada y así surgió este grupo. Vaya estupidez de música y vaya cantante más anodino.
Täyttä Talking Heads -laatua, eli aivan paska. Sääli kun ei voi antaa nollaa tähteä, siis oikeasti 0/5
Nicht meins…
I liked "The Big Country" but besides that it was a slog to get through. As soon as I think I'm enjoying the song it becomes funk/jazzy and gets significantly worse.
Serious question: what's up with guys in music with the timbre of a garbage disposal who can't hold a fucking tune deciding to front a band? Secondary question: what's up with the fanbases who somehow encourage and actively support this shit? Tertiary question: how the fuck does their work end up on a list of awesome-tactic albums you should waste your time listening to before the merciful release of death? Fuck you David Byrne. Fave songs: - - -
David Byrne doesn't sing. He barks all the verses. Instrumentals were obnoxious. Almost comedic. If you tell me "More Songs About Buildings And Food" was a parody album, I will believe you.
Just dont like talking heads very much
This album annoys me for some reason
tbh could not get through the album it just wasn't my cup of tea, so i opted for listening to the most streamed songs and dipped, "the big country" was alright but even that i couldn't get through fully
weird. interesting. ambivalent. Fav songs: The Good Thing Im Not In Love
Didn’t like his voice and didn’t really have any standouts
None of the songs mentioned buildings, or food.
This is the second Talking Heads album I've has so far, thats 2 too many. His singing is so weird, herky jerky is the best way I can describe it. Apparently Talking heads were inspired by Fela Kuti.... I dont see it.
No.
Mehhh
great instrumentation vocals ruined it.
Not my thing. Hardly remember the album and I just listened to it
это хоррор для ушей. идеально для пыток
I didn’t enjoy it. The music was mid and the singing was shit.

Not for me. 1/5
No
I am yet to find a good new wave album, I just can't listen to anymore, please strike me down God before this list gives me another new wave album
Good? Maybe you just had to be there. I was 5 years old when this album arrived. I was more Team Devo. I was not really exposed to this at all. Would that have changed things? Maybe. I am happy to listen to quirky, arty, post punk, but aside from some hits (that are good but wearing thin honestly) I don't have time for Talking Heads. Only listened to the whole album for completeness. Couldn't wait for it to end. If I wasn't taking notes I would have turned it off. I'm glad it's over now.
The album featured the band's first top-thirty single, a cover of Al Green's "Take Me to the River".
This album was annoying, just like all their other albums. The music isn't bad, it's the goddamn singer. Lazy shouting isn't singing. Devo did it better.
Didn't enjoy this album.
I couldn't wait for this to be over.
Nossa eu achei tão chato e repetitivo
#3 White people playing funky rock while a David Byrne sings over the top. Same as it ever was. Same as it ever was. Some nice tones and tight rhythms but if I never heard any of these songs again I wouldn't be heartbroken. Not for me.
Mince
Not listened too :-(
Punchy & beat driven
Too much of the same thing, fast and furious.
I will quote izzy who listened to this album with me in the car today " he sounds like brian ferry if Bryan ferry couldn't sing. How long is this album? Please crash the car." Road to nowhere aside talking heads passed me by in my youth and nothing here caused me to lament that.
Dun geluid, irritante takkeritmetjes, alles op dezelfde lijzige toon gezongen. Of naja, gezongen, het klinkt eerder als een soort janken. O en raad eens wat, Brian Eno heeft zich er ook mee bemoeid.
Apart from Psycho Killer I haven’t listened to much Talking heads - this album did not inspire me to change that. I did feel a bit like Patrick Bateman listening to them - I too would be inspired to murder people if I had to listen to more talking heads Fave track: hard call, The girl wants to be with the girls?
An abomination to my ears.
An awful waste of time
Enjoyed only 2 songs, Thank You for Sending Me an Angel and Take Me to the River. The rest of the album was forgettable.
damn album sucks.....
