Another 3* for Talking Heads
Classic Heads. Cool sound for a single listen but not sure I’d go back to this album.
Great sound!
Rock indie. Suave. No está mal
While I like various TH _songs_, I have never been crazy about the albums.
Regular
One track in and it's already better than our previous Talking Heads album. As a whole, I'm still not really into their style, they strike me as a new-wave prototype without enough excitement or energy to sound truly great. But I liked a handful of songs on here, including the weird Al Green cover. At this point, we've heard their first and second albums in order, which is a perfect way to learn about this band, but I'm still waiting for something big to justify their presence on here and in the hearts of so many people. Favorite tracks: Thank You for Sending Me an Angel, The Big Country, The Good Thing. Album art: Creative I guess, better than just a plain band photo, but it doesn't do much for me. Also they look like complete dorks. 3.5/5
Never really was a fan. Have it a try and I'm still not.
Funky
First impressions are that this is leading up to "Fear of Music", which we reviewed already. Same themes/ideas but not as fleshed out to my taste. Some of the same lyrics even! Fear of music is definitely better.
Yeah it was pretty good
Unique vocal sound. Kinda funky 70s rock.
Has some good songs, but definitely not the best that Talking Heads has to offer.
Weird vibes. Fun.
Decent.
Talking heads!
Meh
A middling album from a great band.
It’s the Talking Heads, of course it is going to be fantastic. It was! Why though? Instrumentation, is why. This is a band, not a pop group, so there is more to listen to than just lyrics and basic rhythms
I do like Talking Heads, though this isn't my favourite album of theirs. Some good songs , and love Tina Weymouth's bass playing, but I feel like they perfected their chops on later records. Still very much worth a listen.
Gewoon chill
Started strong but ultimately too long and too similar of songs
Ganska blekt ändå tyvärrrrrr
Spotify. Fave song Warning Sign
Eno's producer sound doesn't really click for me, even after hearing his solo output. Solid songs, the second half especially, but not nearly as strong as those on the first album. The emphasis on the rhythm section is neat, but everything on top of it is a bit sparse.
If you’re not paying attention, this album is just Take Me to the River with a dozen B sides. Sadly, Al Green’s song is the only track on here with a melody. There’s a reason this band didn’t break through until Stop Making Sense.
Please stop making me listen to David Byrne? This is a great artist who I can like -- even love! -- in small doses...just not at album-length. This is "excellent," "good," "artful" rock and roll that I just don't personally enjoy/prefer. It's good, ok?!? It just gets on my nerves after awhile musically. I'm not a math-rock/art-rock enough guy for Talking Heads, I'm sorry! Please let me continue to appreciate them from afar and occasionally on the radio, 1001 Album Project!!!
Not my type of music
Sem graça
Didn't care for this, I think I had confused them with Talk Talk, which I prefer
This sucks
There’s nothing wrong with the album, but it’s just not my vibe.

Notable Textzeile: Pretty soon now, I will be bitter Pretty soon now, will be a quitter Pretty soon now, I will be bitter You can't see it 'til it's finished I don't have to prove that I am creative Nach dem letzten Album von denen, das ich wirklich echt furchtbar fand, hatte ich keine Erwartungen.
Take me to the river gillade jag i alla fall.
Great musicians ruined by a vocalist constantly doing a bit, the tedious quirky wab.
I do not feel like i missed anything from missing this album for so long. Its not bad but it's nothing to get overly excited about. "Take me to the River" is a fun cover
Disappointing- I really like Talking heads, but this album is not at their highest standard
There are too many Talking Heads albums on this list, this is my third one so far, and the returns are diminishing. The first two had some hits and some interesting stuff going on, but this record is nothing but deep cuts that were mostly boring. Some tracks were just straight up annoying at how similar they were to the track before it. Third straight day with an unenjoyable album, this list is making me weary. 2/5
Ehhhhhhhhhhhhh it's okay I found it quite boring
Some catchy songs in there. Good album to hear when being productive.
This album is somewhat upstaged in Talking Heads' discography, mostly by what came after it (Fear of Music and Remain in Light.) This is certainly a step up from the debut, but Byrne's performance is definitely not for everyone, and I find his sing-shouting in his high register grating after a while. The band's interplay is fantastic though, especially for it being only their sophomore album; it's really the main thing that makes this album bearable for me. I also found the album cohesive to a fault, which, in this instance, means songs get very samey about 5 tracks in. Really, the opener, "Thank You for Sending Me an Angel" and the singles "Take Me to the River" and "The Big Country" were the only memorable tracks on this thing because everything else just blends together. They really did improve leaps and bounds over this on the very next album(!)
Maybe they should do less talking and more singing
Honestly, very skippable didn’t like the sound very much but the last two songs on the album saved it from being a one Along with a funny perspective, found a job, but yeah, probably never returning to this album ever again
Closer to torture than enjoyment.
It’s okay. I just don’t really like Talking Heads. It’s just not for me.
Mehhh, no full listen
I *want* to like the Talking Heads. Some of the arrangements are good enough, but I guess I can't get past Byrne's singing on most of this. That strange, hybrid talky-jerky-sing-song that only he can do is fine in small doses. I've always enjoyed their hits and a few songs on here, it works, but a whole album of it? I don't know. Notably the biggest hit and maybe the best song on this one -- "Take Me to the River" -- is the one with the least amount of this shtick. The songwriting is good, they've got something to say, and there's a certain late-70s, early-80s sound (we'll call it the "Eno-sound"...) that the Heads do well, but it just doesn't jive with me all that much. I struggle with this. Devo had a similar vibe and sound (IMHO) that always clicked with me better, maybe because they leaned into their weird side more? I'm searching and grasping at straws, but can't bring myself to do more than (2/5), in the hopes that some more exposure will soften me to the Heads. We've got three (!?) more on the list, so I'm sure I'll have some time.. I guess..
This is a new listen for me. Not really familiar with these guys. Another act that I have missed completely over the years, I guess. Yeah, I’m just not feeling this. There are parts that caught my attention. The galloping opening to the album. The band would return to this type of progression a number of times throughout. It made for some spirited music. Sometimes they would threaten a jangling guitar part only to go off in a wild direction. The vocals were a mess to me as well. Most of the early tracks seemed low and far away. Talking Heads seem like an acquired taste and at our first introduction here, I’ve not had enough time to develop that taste.
Another Talking Heads album that starts fine and then gets kind of irritating. I understand some people really like the style of the band but I'm just not feeling it as much as them. Kind of cheesy and almost unserious which is fine but gets old after a while.
I really wanted to like this more than I did. It definitely does not stand up to Remain in Light and Take Me To The River isn't a big enough banger to save this album.
I am not a fan of talking heads, the music always sounds as if the vocals were recorded separately with the vocalist having to remember how the song went. This album isn't that different from that.
It's a shame, but not a fan. The individual components are there but it just doesn't work for me. The singing is, frankly, annoying. At times it reminds me a bit of Steely Dan but it's too festive to be taken serious.
I really don't understand this band. When they get it right, they get it so right. But those ones are few and far between. The rest of it, well, its crap really. I think the only way for them to get better than a 2 would be a best of album. And that would probably get a 5.
favs: with our love the good thing found a job take me to the river rating 1.7/5
The album wax ok, but nothing special and I really like a lot of their music
Kinda just boring
It was alright. Maybe this just came to me at the wrong time? Idk still like talking heads though. Something about this was just repetitive
2/5
I could have sworn that I liked Talking Heads before I put this on I listened twice and can't remember any of it. Nothing stuck out at all
A bit boring...
Much of the same
Sophie - Talking Heads have never really been my thing. I know the big hits but haven’t ever delved into a full album, so I was kinda hoping this would change my opinion on them and give me something new to be into. Sadly it did not. The sort of frantic shouting vocal style just sort of stresses me out. The instrumentals can be pretty funky though. But overall, it won’t have me rushing to listen to them any more than I would’ve (or wouldn’t have) before. 2/5
Wasn't keen on this.
Fine, nothing that pops out. A decent pop album.
Take Me to the River was the first song that I recognized from the album. It's not a bad album, but it's not as good as some of their other work, IMO.
Didn't really catch my attention, but at some points it was interesting.
Not bad, but not a huge fan
Ah well for some time I believe I liked the Talking Heads, but for some reason, it took me this long to realize I have been lying to myself. I dislike the Talking Heads. Mostly just the lead singers voice. I think it works in certain instances, such as listening to one slightly fucked up song, but a whole album????? no ma'am thats too much. Thank god they added a lot of instrumentals. Cause those sound very nice indeed, but that voice i do not fuck with it.
Didn’t like. Just vaguely melodic noise. Lorde covered Take Me To The River
Me resultó un poco monótono. Destaco I'm not in love
Ya you know
This is something smooth, nothing really jumped out at me
Ngl it was pretty mid
Ehmmm Nota: 2.5
Not for me
0/11 bekannt 4,5/10 Beste Songs: found a Job, take me to the River, the good thing
Please no more talking heads 🙏🏻
Annoying vocals and lame instrumentals.
Not bad, wouldn't go back and listen to anything on it though.
Eh its okayy
One of those albums where the vocals aren't appealing. A very quirky voice indeed. With the lyrics not making any sense either. To be honest, if you remove the vocals and turn all the songs into instrumentals, I'd probably enjoy it a lot more. I'm not familiar with the New Wave, Art Punk, Post-Punk, whatever genre it's classed as. Though it is certainly an interesting sound. Was very close to giving this a 1 but the funky guitar rhythms is its saving grace. Okay album, but definitely not revisiting.
man this was just not for me kinda dug a few songs though 2/5 i barely made it to the back half
When 'Stop Making Sense' came out, I was an instant fan but after 'Little Creatures', I haven't really bothered with their other albums, which have few stand out tracks. David Byrne's output has had its moments but apart from the two albums mentioned, I find Talking Heads a bit too bland and trying too hard to be quirky.
Not my thing. Found it a little annoying.
I'm of two minds about this. On one hand, I want music and artists like this to exist. I want weirdness in the world. I realize David Byrne is a thoughtful guy and a true artist (check out his book "How Music Works" if you haven't, its great). I just...don't want to listen to this. The best song by far is "Take me to the River" and that's a cover. I liked "Remain in Light" a bit better so I think maybe Talking Heads were just a bit undercooked at this point in their career.
It's alright
All very pleasant but nothing standout, except Stay Hungry, which has a great riff going on throughout, as well as a cool Bond theme thing going on at the start and end (and a cute key change climb in the first half. The Big Country is cute too.
Couple of decent songs. Not their best.
Fine.
There wasn't a single song that I liked on this album. The beats and backtrack are catchy, but overall this is nothing that I want to revisit.
I like Little Creatures. This is awful.
Nope. 2
It's fine. Their other stuff is better. Rating is probably like a 2.45
Couple songs weren't that bad, but I didn't like this one.
Yeah, I am not a big Talking Heads fan. This album is just coming up short on a lot of things for me. Is it really bad? No not really, but it just is slightly annoying, slightly nothing really. 2/5
Not my style unfortunately
Meh
This is the third Talking Heads album serves up to me. I find myself increasingly aggravated by them. Is this like a fine cheese that ages and becomes sublime with the passage of time, or is it just kind of funky smelling and off-putting? I’m leaning towards the latter, the more old Talking Heads I hear the less I like them.
Kult navn, hørtes ut som Talking Heads
How much I enjoy this kind of band really depends on my mood. I don’t have any emotional connection to them, and their sound feels pretty generic, not in a bad way, just neutral. This album is lighter and more upbeat than the next one, and that makes it easier to listen to. Still, the sound, the guitars, and the voice feel a bit cold and repetitive, and end up wearing me out. I finish the album without being excited, but not annoyed either. I don’t know what else to say. Not much excitement.
More entertained than I thought I would’ve given that I don’t really like TTH
Especially like Found a job & I'm not in love. Not too much into funk, but this was alright. Felt the vocals were over the top at times. 2,5/5
It was OK, I really only knew the Talking Heads from Psycho Killer before this.
Was not crazy about this album sorry bro
Not my type of music
Favorite tracks: The Good Thing, Take Me to the River
They don't have this many good albums no idea why y'all keep recommending
I thought I was done with these fuckers. At least this is slightly better I guess still 2 stars
The songs were fun but the lyrics were forgettable. Couldn’t get into it. Fav song: Found a Job
I just don’t get it
eh, nothing special 2
Not on this album
didn't really listen to enough of it but the american annoyingness of the lead singer is a bit much
Hard to describe but it’s almost annoying? I enjoy the songs but theyre too long and very similar to me. I think I saved one or two but it’s more of for in-the-background.
V pohodě, ale asi ne moc můj šálek kávy… crazy album, ale poslechu nelituju.
The first few tracks were solid but as we got into songs like warning sign and the girls want to be with the girls, it got a little hard to listen to. honestly just not a huge fan of his voice. not sure if will be giving it a second listen. it did get a little better at the end when we got to take me to the river. 2.7
Very interesting and experimental album. Laughed several times at wtf I was hearing Most of the songs had at at least 2 part that sounded good, but the rest didnt to me so Im not adding any of them 4/10
This is either 2 stars or 4 stars no in between
best song: with our love worst song: - surprise song: -
mid, underwhelming
Favourite Track: Take me to the River
Not a huge fan of Talking Heads (the band) tbh
I like Talking Heads. This is not my favourite of their records. I can undoubtedly hear the influence this record has had on modern pop and indie music, but there’s no songs that really jump out. Musically it’s very ornate and deliberately put together, but I found myself forgetting melodies before a song was even over.
Agree with a lot of others that there's a lot of talking heads on this list. Some ok tracks, but they should have really narrowed down on records to pick.
Not my fav talking head
Just a weird experience. It's a little unsettling for me, so no thanks. Not a 1, but not a full 3 either.
I just don't get Talking Heads. I try because they're one of those bands you're supposed to like, and I just can't do it.
Look... I'm just not a fan of post punk or nu wave music. I'm tired of listening too it. Once this project is over, it will be by pure accident that I listen to these genres again.
2.2 / 5 "This whole album sounds very quirky" was the first thing that came to my mind. That in itself isn't bad, and neither is the band. But the singer... he sounds like he's completely wasted everytime he touched the mic for this recording. You can barely even understand him at times which is very counterintuitive and gets more and more annoying the longer I listen to it. The wiki says that Brian Eno made the Talking Heads sound more dancable and I'd vouch for that, but only if you'd put the instrumental versions on. If you're listening to the normal stuff instead, you could rather call these songs the "mental version" instead. I guess T.H. has been pretty popular and successful though, so there's definitely people out there who listen to the latter one. All in all it's both an album that I'd never ever listen to again, but also can't shake the feeling that I would if the singer wouldn't try to impersonate Iggy Pop all the time.
It wasn't as good as I expected. I didn't really enjoy it that much. It wasn't the worst thing but I wouldn't listen to this again.
It was fine.
I really want to like Talking Heads... I just can't crack it
Eh, looks like I’m more of a Talking Heads hits guy.
Pretty meh, couple of songs that sounded ok but not a fan of the singers voice or style of singing. Opening track is the best of the bunch for me.
2.5 - not bad, nothing amazing.
???
I listed a favorite song, but it is the only one I remember listening to in any capacity. Boring, repitive, and unremarkable. Favorite Song: Take Me to the River
This would be fine if it were just a song not an entire album, not the worst but not close to mid either, as bland as my opinion on it. No songs about buildings OR food. This is false advertising, I feel betrayed, mislead, toyed with, I want my money back.
Danke für "Take me to the Water" aber das wars dann auch
I didn’t know any of the songs. I like the Talking Heads though. Kind of boring.
Nice melodies, iritating voice. Fav: take Me to the river
Too simple, too 70/80's
Eh I found this boring
Very disappointing album
This is my third Talking Heads album on this list. It’s also the third time I decide I don’t like Talking Heads. Sigh. At least there’s only one left by now.
The Talking Heads are nowhere near as important as the editor seems to think. Like, not even close, and that says way more about the editor's opinion than the Talking Heads. Influence (this album) 2. Hits 2. Quality 2. Just under a "meh" from me, dawg 2.
Good for background music. Nothing that made me stand at attention.
boooring
I may be more of a “best of talking heads” guy,,,, nice to learn something about myself
Most boring Talking Heads album so far.
A little funky for my tastes. I prefer some of their other albums. Only liked last two songs.
Starting to get cynical here
It's not really my favourite sound - both funky and punky should appeal but I find it sounds very rehearsed and the energy that should be there is focused in David Byrne's vocal performance rather than the instrumentals. Have heard some of their later stuff where Byrne either reigns it in a bit or the instrumentals get a bit crazier and I think either of those work better than here where Byrne sounds like a drunk offbeat wedding singer and not in a cool Tom Waits way but in an uncomfortable way
Oh look, I finally have an excuse to check out Talking Heads! My strongest memory related to this band is that David Byrne’s "Like Humans Do" came pre-loaded onto my family’s PC and we listened to it a bunch (probably a dozen times, at least) so we could look at the cool visualizer on Windows Media Player. Simpler times… I wish I could say I loved More Songs About Buildings and Food – the album being the first Talking Heads project produced by Brian Eno and being described as marking a shift toward a more “danceable” style definitely got my hopes up, but it was quickly apparent that it just wasn’t my cup of tea. At this point, I should probably just expect that I’m not going to enjoy an album if its Wikipedia page lists post-punk or new wave (or both, in this case) as its genre. The vocals come across as unpleasant and annoyingly countercultural in pretty much every instance of those two genres that I can think of, though I’m sure some album in that space will come along and blow my socks off eventually. Fortunately for MSABAF, some solid instrumentation, cheeky lyrics and occasionally catchy hooks elevated a few of the tracks for me, which decidedly puts a one star rating out of the question. I really want to like Talking Heads, so hopefully one of their other albums will do more for me! Highlights: The Good Thing, The Girl Wants to Be with the Girls, I’m Not in Love, The Big Country
This entire album felt like the scene in 22 Jump Street where Jonah Hill is doing Slam Poetry off the cuff. The album would be so much better without David Byrne's vocals Best Song: Take Me to the River Rating: 4/10 Stars: 2
I just really don’t get this band
I enjoy Talking Heads later stuff, but I got tired of this album quickly. Felt samey across the whole album. The standout was Take Me to the River.
its not terrible, but it is repetitive.
Beetje saai
I have a lots of respect for the band, but I couldn't get myself to like this album. OKish most of the time, annoying at moments. 5/10
Meh… nothing majorly grabbed me tbh
Vas-y le post-punk des années 70-80 de merde là.
I don't get it
More songs that aren't any good. Other than the Hit Songs, this album isn't worth listening to. Favorite Track: "Take Me To The River".
I really should like talking heads but I just can’t get into them.
Absolutely not vibing with this one, no connection.
Much like their debut I still feel like Talking Heads are wayyy milder and less weird compared to their contemporaries. If I wanted an actually weird band of the same ilk I could listen to Devo, or The Contortions, hell No Wave was a better source of that
david byrn’s singing is the culprit for low rating here
Not my style. It's chaotic and disruptive, which I normally don't really mind but here it's just too jumpy. Combined with a singing style that I really do not like, shrill and pitchy, this is just not my thing. This album just didn't stand the test of time, would not listen again
The music is nice but the choppy singing is really bad. Nothing I will listen to again.
ei antanut
Bro… this not even a good talking heads album. I like Take me to the River and I’m not in love.
it was ok just not for me 2.5
Not their best album
I liked the first track, but I kept thinking it sounded like Roy Orbison’s I Drove All Night. For me, that’s no bad thing. It descends into weird musical theatre after the first two tracks, which is not what I expect from post punk bands. This is the direct line to Franz Ferdinand, and I prefer their sound because David Byrne’s vocal style is very annoying. As influential as Talking Heads are, I would have preferred to the hear more songs BY building and food.
Eh
Some nice moments and instrumentals, but I couldn’t get into this one. Vocals weren’t super engaging. May get a better rating on a second listen in the future.
I mean, this is fine. It's fine. None of the songs caused any reaction from me, though, they might as well have been white noise. I have heard enough Talking Heads from this list and the singhh-errrss!! Ooopp!! -- thensuddenlyveryquiet yelping vocals are starting to grate.
Boring
I want to like Talking Heads. I feel like people with my music usually likes Talking Heads a lot, but it just doesn't click for me.
Just not my thing, but this rating feels disrespectful.
It was alright, didn't really vibe with any of it.
5/10 album. Nothing extra-ordinary, nothing awful.
It was good, but not good enough to encourage me to dive into any more..
After listening to a few whole Talking Heads albums I've come to the conclusion that I THINK I like them more than I actually DO. Stop Making Sense is all I really need. And it has a better version of Burning Down the House on it.
sorry Mr. Byrne.
It's an ok album, the cover version is the highlight though. You can see which direction they were heading.
“Hear my voice, hear my voice.” Okay but what if I don’t want to? Definitely prefer the instrumentals and production to the sub-par vocals.
3 Talking Heads on this list (so far), 1 is pushing it, clearly the author was a big fan.
And... another Talking Heads album. This is the 4th time that I have had to go through these and they genuinely always just don't do anything for me other than occupy the time it takes to finish their album while not offending too much. The first appearance with "Fear of Music" was the highest rated with a 2.5, with the rest all hitting a 2. This trend will continue to a degree with this album receiving a 2.5/5 but still being bumped to a 2 as it doesn't do enough to warrant an above average rating. Here's hoping that we have finished this quadrilogy...
Nothing stood out
Wow, that was pretty annoying. I'll give it to them that it is far from generic, but it definitely wasn't enjoyable either. Favorite song: Take Me to the River
David Byrne’s vocals really dont sit well with me for a full album. One or two songs is fine but over the length of this album they started to jar by the time i got to ‘The Girls Want To Be…’ I quite like the music though, although again it gets a bit too samey over the course of the album. Given this ‘take me to the river’ is a welcome gem toward the end of the album, as it forces something a bit different on both fronts. Big country is also a strong song, just a shame these are stuck at the arse end of the album
It was ok
It was okayyyy, not my fav genre unfortunately
It has grown on me. Quite interesting
Some of the production isn't too bad, I might like the songs with a different singer and/or lyrics. For example, I vastly prefer the Lorde cover of Take Me to the River. I just can't do it with Byrne's voice and phrasing.
So so
It's good
Never a big fan. Something about his voice.
Hard to understand why this album, or band it self, is so highly rated. For me, it's just bad singing and mediocre songs. Later album have interesting arrangements, though, but not this one. No for me.
Certainly not good, but also I clocked several hours as a child singing "Take Me To The River" along with a mounted fake bass. That song is a banger.
2 star
ehhhh 2/5
Not really into this era of music
Yes Stop Making Sense is one of my favourite documentaries. No I don't really like Talking Heads. I contain multitudes.
funky that got a little more tolerable as it went on
Yessss
Like a wave, starts strongly, dips, comes back up, then ends back in the dip. Some tracks are too much, over played and a little onanistic.
Feels weird to drop 2 stars on one of my most favorite bands, but really never could get into this album.
You've heard one song off this album.
Boring album
Nah. Pales in comparison to their other albums. It’s just a bit…anodyne?
not a huge fan
I liked the latter half of the album more. I didn't really like the vocals. I feel like the instrumental performances were decent at best. I can't say I'm a fan of this sound. Favourite Track(s): I'm Not in Love Least Favourite Track(s): Warning Sign
The trouble with hearing groundbreaking albums decades later, is that the groundbreaking effect has long evaporated...
Best bass lines i’ve ever heard.
Talking Heads! Yet another artist that I have a history with. When I was starting out with listening to music I remember having a transfixed, neuroatypical hatred of 80s music. I don't actually recall why, as I have listened to a grand total of fourteen 80s albums of my own accord. I'm pretty sure it was because me mammy put me onto a bunch of 80s new wave bands when I first came out as a musicel, which was probably a little too much for me to take in at the time. In any case, I listened to Remain In Light and did not like it for reasons that are probably pedantic and overblown. Fortunately, me and The Stone Roses' debut album have since become buddy buddy and I am much more open-minded about 80s music, so I'm open to the prospect of giving these guys a fair shake. Sometimes it comes together, though this was really not the album for the job. I think "With Our Love" is the best showing on the instrumental front and is a good indicator of where the band would go. "Take Me to the River" is another solid enough tune, if only for it being a break from David Byrne's screeching harpy act. I'm not really sure what emotions Talking Heads are meant to evoke. The jittery instrumentals and strained vocals make me feel frustrated and restless, which aren't emotions that I imagine people ever want to feel while listening to music. I'd normally say that this is a me problem, though I think the ownace is on the album this time. Sozzo, it just sucks. Gonna check the 1001 albums book on this entry because I need some clarity. Collaboration between Byrne and Brian Eno, which I can definitely see as I just got off the back of listening to Eno's first album. Another lyrics album, which is an aspect I actively avoided because of the vocals. A "classical minimalism" album (I have no idea what they're on about at this point). The Eno-produced Heads albums rival the Eno-produced Bowie albums. Uhh, yeah. This thing is beyond my comprehension. Hope I roll Remain in Light when the next Talking Heads album rolls around.
Não entendi, bizarro ...
I believe it's decent music but it's not my thing
One of the most overrated and boring bands ever conceived.
Unremarkable, forgettable, and just plain not my cup of tea
One good song only
Telling that my favorite song on this album is a cover tune. Talking Heads just aren’t my thing.
This album isn't for me. I enjoy Talking Heads live albums very much, but their studio albums tend to be a little sterile sounding to me. The earliest records, including this one, fall flattest for me. So, this album isn't for me, but Talking Heads is still an amazing group, and Stop Making Sense is an all time great album
This is my third time listening to this album and it is really not my thing. It has also stopped me from listening to anything else from Talking Heads, so maybe I should just move on from this album and give something else on their discography a chance. I can appreciate what they are doing lyrically and satirically, but musically it's not for me. Favs: - The Good Thing - I'm Not in Love - Take Me to the River 5/10
<Sigh> Three of these things? Really?
2/5 eh not much interesting. Good rythum guitar
I liked Water Man but the rest was not my jam
Not for me. Just can’t get behind Byrne’s songwriting or vocal stylings. Instrumentals don’t carry things enough.
I like the layering and general complexity, but not my kind of sound
I remain a hits andy for Talking Heads.
This album confirms my previous statement about the Talking Heads. Their music just isn't for me. I have heard at least 10-20 albums like "MSABaF" There are a few decent songs here and there. I hope for a better week this time. 2 stars for "MSABaF". :
I didn’t need a tenth Talking Heads album without any good singles
You could convince me this was a 3 probably but to me it’s just a high 2
This genre is not for me. 2 stars
Talking heads have many great songs, its just a shame none of them are on this album. All the songs blend together in a way that seems very monotonous. The only stand out being the cover of Take me to the River, which I appreciate for its different vibe, but I think I still prefer the original.
4/10 I feel like I should like this more than I do. This was more of a passive listen, maybe I should try it again but I can’t see myself remembering to
No
This album was admittedly a total blindspot for me outside of 'Take Me to the River'. Why does 'The Big Country' sound so familiar? Other than those two tracks, regrettably, I must say the rest were forgettable. It's just not a sound that I really connect with.
Ok
Uug. 2.5/5
Yet to find a New Wave/Post Punk album I've enjoyed. Not that I dislike them, they're just not for me I'd usually rate this a 3 but for some reason this just comes off as, I don't know, pretentious? I'm not sure how to put it but it just annoyed me for some reason so fuck you
Okay, good background music not my style though.
I do not mind Talking Heads in small doses. This album is upbeat, quirky, and fun, but it suffers from a lack of variety in its sound with many tracks blending together. While the rhythm section was a clear highlight, there were too many songs I wanted to skip.
Kind of weird. Definitely 70s
Meh
Gay
Intrigued by Talking Heads and enjoy their more successful songs. Maybe deserves to listen to before you die…a few good songs but overall as an album not my favourite.
Kind of wack.
Wasn't really feeling it.
I don’t get it.
Aside from "take me to the river", I didn't recognize a single track on this album. However, I would have instantly known it was them... Defo the mark of a good band. And since I resonate most with guitars, I'ma call this album "jangly"
I really wanna rate it higher but it’s hard to justify. I wanna rate it 3/5 but would probably need more listens first... I like certain other Talking Heads stuff a lot, just not this album. Take Me to the River is cool though it gets a pass
Quite annoying.
Ben Stop Making Sense'i çok seviyorum.
tense, compressed, agitated - Lower East Side 1978 captured perfectly. an itchy listen.
OVERALL: I dislike the first song, and I find the most of the vocals to be pretty annoying. With that being said, the production on this album is pretty good, and definitely elevates most if not all of the songs. The vocals later on in the album are much better, and aren't nearly as annoying as Thank You for Sending Me an Angel. Despite this, I cannot physically rate this anything higher than a 3 due to the abhorrent singing. It is mostly good, sometimes great, but the singing makes me hate this even though there are some really good songs. This is just to justify the high song avg compared to the low personal rating. SONG AVG: 8/10 PERSONAL RATING: 5/10 Thank You for Sending Me an Angel: The voice sounds very annoying, I despise almost everything about it. The production is pretty repetitive, but isn't that bad. The production singlehandedly saves this from being a 2. 3.75/10 With Our Love: The voice still sounds annoying, but is a little better. Much better production, sounds very aggressive and great overall. Would've been much better if I didn't find the vocals to be absolute dogshit. 6.5/10 The Good Thing: I actually kinda like the vocals on this one, especially the choir. Great production, I have no complaints about it. 9.25/10 Warning Sign: Pretty good vocals, except for when they do the weird mosquito noises. The production is pretty solid, and the key jingling noises(?) are pretty interesting and unique. 7.75/10 The Girl Wants to Be with the Girls: Really good ending. Other than that, everything is decent to above average, nothing incredibly interesting. 6.75/10 Found a Job: Pretty good production, and the ending is very good. I slightly dislike the vocals here, but I guess the lyrics are pretty above average. Pretty good bassline. 8.5/10 Artists Only: The vocals are a lot quieter than they should be, but that's probably a good thing. The second "I don't have to prove that I am creative" is very jarring. This is mostly instrumental, and it certainly sounds great. Fantastic production. 9.25/10 I'm Not in Love: Pretty good outro, and is pretty similar to Artists Only in the sense that it's mostly instrumental and the vocals are surprisingly quiet. 8.75/10 Stay Hungry: Incredible instrumentals, and the vocals aren't that bad either. It does use a fade out outro though. 9/10 Take Me to the River: Overall pretty good. The vocals sound probably the best so far, and the instrumentals, while being a bit basic, are very good. 9/10 The Big Country: Just a really good song. Works as a great outro. I guess it's kinda weird that this is a country-ish song, but I don't mind it that much. I will say that goo goo ga ga ga is weird as hell, but it works pretty well. 9.5/10
5,5/10 Highlights: Thank You For Sending Me an Angel Take Me to the River The Big Country
As with other Talking Heads albums, this has left me cold and I do not get what others see in them.
Ok songs all very samey
I want to like the Talking Heads more, but I find it hard to listen to a lot of their music, like a lot of this album. The cover of Al Green's Take Me to the River was OK. A big old Meh of an album.
Nothing jumping out, aside from “Take Me To The River”. Was a fairly quick listen and mostly mediocre. I appreciate the concept and some of the production but not much else.
I could see where their future greatness came from, but this album was bland by comparison.
You’d think some weird postmodern art rock would be something I’d be at least moderately into. I really want to like Talking Heads. I’ve tried to like Talking Heads. But I just…don’t? There are some great lines/lyrics, but I can’t get past the vocals. Don’t love it. Don’t hate it. The quintessence of meh.
2 sterne
I don't care for this very much. It's probably one of those things you had to experience in the right moment in time. Still, I was willing to give it some grace because I figured I was hearing the sound which would come to fruition with Psycho Killer... until I realized this album came AFTER that one. So the band got worse. Will most definitely not spin this one again.
Weird in a good way at first, then just weird
Meh
2 forgettable
Some of these songs are unlistenable, some are ok Uncool ununique I really had to force myself to finish it
first thing I listen to after recovering from an illness. bad experience
I want less songs about buildings and food
If it weren't for the lead singer this would just be an ok band. His vocals are what defines the band.
Favorittsang: artists only
maybe i should listen it later....
Instrumentals are good but this singer's vocal stye does not work well.
