Reviews (page 5 of 14)

Strong album. My dad would always sing You Can't Always Get What You Want, so it gets a plus one for nostalgia.

This is my second Stones record in a fortnight and my fourth overall. This album was released just weeks before Altermont and it does start with the dark energy of Gimme Shelter which I don't think they felt quite so confident channeling afterwards. This is toe for toe with Sticky Fingers for my favourite Stones album but I'd probably give that one the edge as it's just a bit more consistant. Interesting side not not only did Delia Smith bake the cake on the front cover, she also played autoharp on a couple of tracks [citation required].

Crazy seeing reviews that there are "only" 2 good songs on here. Incredibly to write this many absolute bangers and incredible to get two of them on a single album!

Musta tää oli tosi hyvä – jopa uus lemppari Rollareilta! Oon kuunnellu paljon Rollareita teininä mut tästä tiesin vaan hitit.

hyvväää papparokkia!! himotikissä ovat olleet, tosin en osaa sanoa miten erityinen tää levy on itsessään. kaks vikaa biisiä lempparit, monkey man nauratti ihan sikkenä

Old Bar/Beach Vibe. Very Vibey. Calm Album - Would Listen Again Leah - 6/7 Leprechauns Austin - 5/7 Leprechauns

This album is pretty good, it’s a classic, with different guitar, saxophone and sometimes even banjo. However, the Rolling Stones stole a lot of their sound from Black people so for that reason, I can’t fully love this album, but it is really good.

Great album

Probably one of the better Rolling Stones albums on this list. “Gimme Shelter” is easily one of their best songs, and I’ve always loved “You Can’t Always Get What You Want.” Overall, it’s just a really good, fun listen.

It’s the Rolling Stones at there finest

Perfect album to put on when you just want to rock out, felt constantly throughout. My Stones knowledge is not as well-versed as I wish it to be, but Let It Bleed fells like one of their most rocking albums, mainly with a lack of ballads, the most "serenading" song is "You Got The Silver" where the guitar slightly irks me and "You Can't Always Get What You Want" which has one of the best song openings that can not be done again by anyone else no matter how hard some may try. I think I prefer it to "Gimme Shelter" but perhaps that's based on mood. It's definitely one of the best closers and is especially fitting as a closer for this album, which is soaked in what some may call "drugged out affair full of violence, sex, rape, more drugs, and more violence" (thank you Reddit user for putting that into words for me." It is an album closely linked to the time it was made, but I don't find that it's stuck within that time. It is without a doubt the album that wraps up the 60s, where the hope has been drained and replaced with "the sense of palpable dread that hung over its era." (Thanks to Steven Davis and Wikipedia for that one). In many ways, it feels like the last season of Mad Men to me, even the last episode, where all that has transpired ends in California on a retreat with a phone call from Don Draper to Peggy that leaves her certain that he is going to kill himself, only for Don to return to his inhumane fashion as an (m)ad man. The length is generally perfect for me, in that 40ish minute mark, but "Midnight Rambler" runs a tad too long for me. I don't know how I feel with "Gimme Shelter" as the opener because it's so powerful, why bother with the rest, but I don't know where else I would place it. "Live With Me" is a new favorite. "Let It Bleed" hits a perfect 5-minute mile run. "You Got Silver" is eh, but only 2 minutes so who cares. "Monkey Man" oh, monkey man, oh.

Fun throw back. At times a little too country-facing, but overall good listen.

I’ve always wondered about the Beatles vs stones debate, I think the truth lies somewhere closer to the Messi vs Ronaldo debate, where the correct answer is they’re both elite and we should just be stoked for witnessing both of them. Anyway, good outing from the boys on this album, gimme shelter and You can’t always get what you want are obvious standouts. Giving 4 stars because I’m guessing Sticky Fingers and/or beggars banquet is also on this list and I need room to move

What an incredible start, I can only imagine how it felt to listen to that for the first time. Definitely did fizzle off a bit IMO. 3.5/5

Gorgeous, flowing, innovative

C'est très sympa à écouter

Never heard country honk, only honky tonk woman - like the reimagining, bass on live with me is awesome, love the guitar tone on Monkey Man and throughout rest of album

Nothing screams “movie made by a white boomer” like Gimme Shelter. This album covers a lot of ground in a short amount of time. Mick Jagger is not a favourite singer, but these songs still sound pretty damn good

I still remember when I found out The Rolling Stones were British. What do you mean?! I cried. They make American music! They make the most American music possible! I cried again. It was horrible. It was like finding out about Andre Agassi’s wig all over again.

That album is so fantastically bookended with Gimme Shelter and You Can't Always Get What You Want. Fantastic rock album.

Another album I didn't recognize the song names, but did when I heard them.

8.5/10

Pretty nice; Gimme Shelter and Can't Always Get What You Want are great opening and ending tracks, legendary; the rest isn't bad, a little standard wrt the 60s rebel energy. 4/5.

it was decent. might have to listen again. Midnight Rambler was pretty good. 4/5

Great rock album full of big hits but the lesser known songs also shine. Only thing I’m not really keen on is Mick’s vocals but still a cracking album

An absolute banger of an album by the Stones. Their particular honky tonk southern rock style is so unique for a British rock group. The best songs from this record you’ve heard a million times. For good reason. The tracks outside of those are kinda hit or miss. All in all, it’s a great album with some of the most iconic rock songs you’ve ever heard.

Not their best of their finest era, and probably the lowest, but the Stones were on an absolute tear from about '66 to '72 and this still hits damn well. Bookended by two massive hits, this was more the stones trying to expand what they'd done on Beggars Banquet into where they'd go in the 70s. There's a little lack of energy as they try to comb through things but the high points are really high, giving what's to come.

Two legendary tracks bookending mediocre blues mush

True rock and roll. Great album cover.

I always found them derivative, oooh country rock!, but some great songs and jams

4 out of 5. For the Rolling Stones this is a solid album.

I wasn't expecting as much of a folk vibe from this album given what I've heard from The Rolling Stones, but I'm here for it.

Pretty amazing how far this group came in just a handful of years (but eight albums in that same time period!).

Going into this one, I think I only know the song "Gimme Shelter" which is an absolute classic. Past that, I am just not a huge fan of Mick Jagger's vocals, the songs that rely on his singing too heavily generally fall flat for me. The songs that rely heavier on instrumentation however are much better, fun, upbeat, enjoyable. Overall, a classic album for a reason, great representation of the Stones, probably will be in the rotation in the future.

this is exactly what i expected the rolling stones to sound like and also not at all

Highlights: Gimme Shelter, Live With Me, Let It Bleed, Midnight Rambler, Monkey Man and You Can’t Always Get What You Want. 4.7

Joo, ehdottomasti paremman puoleinen rollarikokemus.

Made me feel like I was in a montage in a really cool movie. More piano than I expected. Fun, perfect length, no filler. I enjoyed

Monkey Man, Bob Dylan, Harmonica, Zeppelin

Leadoff and nine hole definitely carry the lineup. Still, the stones make rock and roll. Kind of wild how Brit’s can sound country like that. Not their best, but gimme shelter and you can’t always get what you want are heavy enough to make it a classic album.

While this is so clearly inspired by the old rhythm and blues from the American south, it never sounds like a copy. The music composition and production quality are truly stellar. Insanely influential. Very impressive.

Midnight Rambler though… album felt like required reading for music lovers

Not my favorite Stones album, but a good one. 3.5 rounded up

apenas en esta escucha me enteré que charlie watts no toca la batería en you can't always get what you want y ahí entendí el verdadero significado de la canción

Very good

A new horizon for me, it’s an interesting sound that i havent interacted with before, some songs are not for me, but some songs i will go back to, a little slow for my liking, but brilliant nonetheless

Sehr interessant Rock eher aber nicht ganz mein Geschmack

This album is a bit of a mess, half country influenced songs, a blues jam, and a couple of rockers bookended by two absolute classics. This highs are extremely high but lacks cohesion. 3.5🎂, rounding up for the hits.

Incredible bookends on an album!!

there are some weak tracks, but the stones are legit

I'm usually pretty psyched when Rolling Stones pop up here. Prior to 1001, I'd heard plenty of Stones stuff, but never really sat down to work through an album front to back. This is one of the bands that I'm happy to be involved in this project for. 8/10

Good album overall, punchy beats with good lyrics to sing along to, strongly reccomend

Not a big Stones fan but this album does have some of my favourite tracks of theirs on it - kicking straight off with Gimme Shelter which is one of them (although my intro to it was originally through The Sisters and Mercy and The Mission cover versions). Overall a good listen, but not enough to convert me. Pretty much what I would expect from the Stones.

Really good! Not listened to it before. Half the tracks are really well known of course but thoroughly enjoyed the rest of it too.

I don't think I'm ever going to be a massive fan of the Stones but I can understand what people see in them.

This album is bookended by two monster hits in Gimme Shelter and You Can't Always Get What You Want. In between are a combo of blues and folk, with a remake of Honky Tonk Women in Country Tonk. Helps establish the legacy of the Stones as the bad boys of British rock, and features legendary riffs from Keith Richards.

i liked you can't alwaays get what you want

01) Gimme Shelter - 10,0 02) Love in Vain - 9,0 03) Country Honk - 10,0 04) Live with Me - 8,0 05) Let It Bleed - 8,0 06) Midnight Rambler - 7,5 07) You Got the Silver - 8,0 08) Monkey Man - 9,5 09) You Can't Always Get What You Want - 10,0 TOTAL: 8,89 (89/100)

Good album.

Very good album. Many classic songs on there, and some I either didn't know or hadn't heard in a very long time. Sustained my attention until almost the end. Stones are a classic!

looks like gateau, tastes like pancakes

Rock and roll

Enjoyed but not my faves. Liked Monkey Man and the ones I knew.

Great vibes

At some point, the Stones became too polished for me. That's why I once bought a compilation with the early songs. Wonderful, even though this is perfectly fine.

Liked it a looooot❤️

visai fun albukas. im a monkey baby.

This is a tough one. Gimme Shelter kicks in, and you're ready to ride a helicopter over Vietnam. It hits so hard. The middle, however, is rough. The Stones deep cuts are nowhere near the level of their contemporaries: Bealtes, Pink Floyd, Zeppelin. We pick up a little steam with the title track of Let It Bleed. We lose the steam right away on the next two tracks. But you get to the end. Monkey Man kicks in. It's solid. Then, you get to the last track Can't Always Get What You Want, and it almost wipes the hard drive. It's so good that you forget the duds in the middle. Realistically, this is a 3. But I cannot give an album with two tracks that are realistically top 100 all time a 3. So, 4/5.

peak stones

3.5/5. Raising to 4.

Gimme Shelter is an all time great. Country Honk is not a great cover of Honky Tonk Woman. You Can't Always Ge What You Want - I understand the iconic status of the song, but can't say it's a favorite.

"Gimme Shelter" is the best Stones song, so it's impossible for the rest of the album to match that. That does indeed to prove to be the case, but there's still enough good stuff here to carry the album, notably the closing track. I think this may be my favourite Stones album, which is surprising, because I'd always had Beggar's Banquet higher up, but I guess not.

Boasting one of the best pairings of album opener and closer in music history, this one is practically guaranteed a high rating. Unfortunately, there’s just too much country tonk inbetween

Excelente álbum, una joyita. De lo mejor de los rolling stones.

Album bueno, con mezclas de distintos generos 8/10

Only because the hits otherwise eh

Good stones album

There's a point in the bridge of "Gimmie Shelter" where Merry Clayton is absolutely cooking and her voice cracks and you hear Mick let out a "whoo" in the background like you know he's just locked in to the intensity. One of the great moments in rock history... Seriously, listen to it isolated (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ChONufP0FEs). The rest is still high quality, but doesnt meet that absolute high, and I say this with the timeless "You Can't Always Get What You Want" being on this album too.

what an opening; 4 stars

Very nice towards the end. Not really a fan of the beginning. Personally, im into harder music.

Some of it feels improvised, but they are enjoying it and so am I.

Great album some favs ..and it’s the stones. Stones all the way

Groovy, dude. To say this album is a two-hit wonder is a little harsh. Listen to those riffs and piano. Solid record!

I’ve always liked this album, but the Stones are all about rocking. What I mean is they’re not really about songwriting, musicianship, interesting harmonies, challenging structures or any number of other elements. It either rocks or doesn’t. I thought this was my favourite, but it doesn’t rock all the way through. It doesn’t bother me that English guys are trying to play country, they play blues after all, but I don’t think it’s a genre they do very well. Keith Richards was trying to emulate Gram Parsons, who was himself a poser. The Stones are best when they sustain a slightly menacing rock vibe for the entire song. This album mostly does that, but not completely.

Haven’t been a big stones fan but maybe they come together on this one. While this was the end of the hippie movement it is a great record. Keeps me interested and doesn’t meander into boring blues like prior records did for me.

Starting with Gimme Shelter isn't too shabby. Love In Vain seems a nice departure from the usual Stones fare, with some lovely mandolin, and then I was totally surprised by Country Honk. Never heard this version before, it's got a nice Flying Burrito Bros vibe to it. The title track is a bit icky, but think they just about keep it in the right place. Midnight Rambler has been played to death by cover bands, but the original remains a bit weird and sinister, in a good way. Monkey Man is quite an odd one, but pretty interesting. Finishing with You Can't Always Get What You Want means it leaves on a great high. Slightly flawed, but highly enjoyable.

The highs are very high. And the lows are pretty good too. I added “Love in Vain” to my Generator playlist.

Blues influences that I like

Blues rock volado y excelente. 7/10

In the past I would have said this is my least favorite of their classic 68-72 run but now I don't know! This is the most I've ever enjoyed it to the point where I'm confused as to what my hangups were.

Not surprisingly good, had better expectations for such an album. Still an incredible mix of sounds and completely unique and different for the time it was published. 8.9/10

Fav songs: Gimme Shelter and You Can’t Always Get What You Want

Favorite Track: You Can’t Always Get What You Want

Definitely, for sure, completely authentic British music.

Good bluesy album. Biggest complaint is that it starts to sag a bit in the middle, as everyone correctly points out. But a worthy addition to the list and a good listen.

Not my genre, but super enjoyable.

First rating ever. Going in the first listen through the album. Already had th intro song "Gimme Shelter" added to my playlist, but havent had a firm listen and opinion on it. The fact that this album was written in 1969 is astonishing. Another time when I am shocked by the fact how astonishing the British music scene is, truly the best. Some of the songs remind me of country music (musical-wise, instrumentals), on of the songs is literally called "Country Honk". And each song sounds like a total classic, but not all the songs stick with me. Personal favourites: Monkey Man, You Can't Always Get What You Want, Gimme Shelter.

6/10 Enjoyable. Can imagine listening while driving in a VW caravan near the Grand Canyon or smth

I love this album. The mix of rock, blues, and country is great, and I think “Monkey Man” is one of their most fun songs. There are a few songs that are underwhelming that keep it from being a 5 for me.

some great songs

Funny story, the Rolling Stones were my mom's favourite band and when they were trying to think of music for their wedding my mom originally wanted to walk down the aisle to the opening choral section to You Can't Always Get What You Want because it sounded like nice church music. My dad clearly veto'd that idea and they're still happily married today. Anyways, I'm surprised to already be reaching my final Rolling Stones album on day 364. I started this journey having barely listened to the Stones in the past decade, but after listening to the six albums from the generator, I've clearly formed an opinion of the band because I feel like I'm just parroting all my other Stones reviews. I think Let It Bleed might be my favourite Rolling Stones album from the generator. It has probably the strongest opening song in Gimme Shelter and the greatest closer in You Can't Always Get What You Want. Let it Bleed, Midnight Rambler, and Monkey Man are also excellent tracks, but other than the hits, I just don't really care all that much for the rest of the album. Not that the rest of the album is bad, it just doesn't quite reach the same heights.

Mezcla excelsa

Mucho mejor de lo que esperaba. Me guardo «Gimme Shelter» y «You Can't Always Get What You Want», pero en general es un disco muy interesante. Año 69, vaya época.

HERMOSO BAJO EN LIVE WITH ME ME ENGOME Increíble. Sin palabras. Gimme shelter y You cant always get what you want mis favoritas.

Me gustó y tiene buenos sencillos pero hay algunas canciones con las que no terminé de conectar. Le daría un sólido 8.

You cant always get what you want is top song

muuuuy buen álbum, la mezcla del blues y el rock and roll increíble, es un blues más pesado y oscuro. le doy un 8

Notables: - Gimme Shelter - You Can’t Always Get What You Want

- Great opening with 'Gimme Shelter', great closing with 'You Can't Always Get What You Want' - The rest of the album is an interesting mix of blues and rock - Catchy, not always memorable - Great album overall

I'm a cold Italian pizza I could use a lemon squeezer.

Kort. God. Shelter er best.

Gimme Shelter is their best song in their entire discography

Smooth as butter Best Song: You Can't Always Get What You Want Rating: 8.5/10 Stars: 4

you cant always get what u want

- Surprisingly quite a lot of country-style music - Mostly forgettable, apart from the first and last song which are classics and elevate the album

By 1969, the Stones had developed more of their own voice. Still them, but not quite the straight blues rock band they had been earlier. It's some great music, as should be expected.

Ok 4th Rolling Stone record already so kinda over it at this point but this was just as consistently good as the rest of them I think

Standouts Gimme Shelter Live With Me Let It Bleed Monkey Man You Can't Always Get What You Want

Classic album with great songs. 2-3 recognizable hits. The rest of the album is strong but not as impressive as the hits.

I copped some hate recently for suggesting that Beggars Banquet (the album immediately preceding this one) was not all that it’s cracked up to be. Listening to this today, I stand by that assessment - Let It Bleed is just a whole lot better for mine. Similar formula to a degree - 2 big, classic hit singles (Gimme Shelter and You Can’t Always Get What You Want), but the big difference is in the quality of the rest of the album. Here, you get Live With Me (possibly my fave Stones track ever), a quirky country version of Honky Tonk Women, Love In Vain, even Monkey Man stands up tall. Midnight Rambler, well, rambles on for a bit long, but it all seems a bit better thought out and better executed than the mess of the album tracks on BB.

Rollarit toimii. Ei paras levy, mutta iisi 4/5.

Finally a good Rolling Stones album 👅

Any record that starts off with "Gimme Shelter" is an instant classic. There are a number of great songs on this one: the title track, "Midnight Rambler," "Monkey Man," "You Can't Always Get What You Want." There are some skips, though.

Decent, bluesy - Gimme Shelter and Midnight Rambler classics and a country version of honky tonk woman

As a huge music lover, The Rolling Stones are a band I’ve never delved into. But this record is great from start to finish and right up my street. Gimme Shelter is a great opener! I hear how they influenced so many other bands and artists. Love the country rock feel to this album! Live with me is a great track, the sax in it is brilliant! Stand out tracks are Country Honk, Let it Bleed and You Can’t Always Get What You Want! A feel good upbeat album that has you foot tapping the whole way through with some amazing guitar playing.

Three days straight of local references for me: The Darkness from Lowestoft; Pablo Fanque's mention on Sgt Pepper's; and not this, and the cake by Delia. This is the best Stones album I've listened to on here by a long way. Really solid and consistent with that Blues rock feel that I enjoy anyway. Listened three or four times on a day that was full of travel. It didn't get old. A strong 4.

A couple of iconic stones songs, but overall not their best album.

Great to listen to the Rolling Stones. Definitely a great collection of songs here! Favorites: Love In Vain, Live With Me, Midnight Rambler, Monkey Man

I'm sorry, Marty, I don't know if I ever need to hear Gimme Shelter again, as good as it is. Maybe it'll sound fresh if I take like a ten year break. Not my favorite Stones record of this hot run of theirs in the late 60s/early 70s. Just not as deep, but very enjoyable all the same.

This Album was a for sure classic agreat start and end to the album and some good music in between. The Stones are legend.

How did I reach my mid-sixties without ever listening to this album? The shame. It's not QUITE consistently up there with the other Stones albums from that period for me, but admittedly that's a very high bar. Gimme Shelter to open and You Can’t Always Get What You Want to close though. Goosebumps.

One of my first Stones albums, and one of my favorites.

So far, my favorite Rolling Stones album. So many solid tracks here compared to the other albums that have popped up.

The album starts off with one of the most epic intro somgs, Gimme Shelter. It can’t follow up the opening, but it’s still a good record. It was interesting to hear the country version of Honky Tonk Women: Country Honk. But it’s a reason why the version that’s not on this album is the famous one. I enjoyed listening to the album, but it’s not quite a 5 star for me. Favourite songs: Gimme Shelter, You Can’t Always Get What You Want, Midnight Rambler, Country Honk.

im such a sucker for the classics. starts and ends super strong. the album blends rock with country/folk influences so well. yummy guitar riffs throughout and a heavy blues influence (8/10)

Actually pretty cool, I get why boomer glaze the shit out of these guys.

Wonderful opening track

Very bluesy album. Great opener and closer songs. Those in between are less stellar although some are worth a listen.

Great listen. Album doesn't have much flow, but the music is so good you don't even notice. I have to say the title track "Let It Bleed" will always be a favorite here.

A very solid album with super hits on it.

The first track is on my very short list of favorite Stones songs. The last song is great, though tarnished by my association of it with Trump. I know they don’t sanction his use but it still sucks that I can picture him “dancing” when I hear it. I don’t like Midnight Rambler at all. The rest all have things going for them. In between a 4 & 5 for me.

First of all, beautiful, stunning album visual. Second Gimme Shelter fucks. Love In Vain is a good surprise. I should be more in love with Country Honk. I adore Live With Me.

The rolling stones are cool

Two absolute classics, but basically nothing else in-between. Third best song is Live With Me. A very barely 4/5.

The Rolling Stones – Let It Bleed ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Album #21 The second album in The Rolling Stones’ purple patch where they could do no wrong (except for Altamont and tax evasion.) This is a much stranger and more lo-fi record than I remembered. I hadn’t heard it in a while. It’s bookended by two of their most bombastic songs, both fantastic and absolute classics. Everything in between, though, feels more stripped back than I expected, and a lot more country. Not a complaint, just an observation. I don’t love this record as much as some of their others, but it has too many great songs not to give it a four. That said, there are a couple of tracks here that I think have better versions elsewhere. “Country Honk” isn’t as good as “Honky Tonk Women,” which is essentially the same song. And I much prefer the live version of “Love in Vain” from Get Yer Ya-Ya’s Out!. Also, and I know it’s a fan favourite, “Midnight Rambler” is a bit goofy. It never really did much for me! On the other hand, it’s probably got one of Keith Richards’ best vocal performances on “You Got the Silver.” I absolutely love that song. I’ll probably reserve my five stars for Sticky Fingers and Exile on Main Street. I don’t think this quite reaches that level, even though it’s an absolute classic. Great record all the same.

It’s the Rolling Stones so not much to say

This felt less cohesive than other albums of theirs that I’ve heard. Something just wasn’t clicking for me though the songs were enjoyable on their own.

This was a pretty good Rolling Stones album, the best one I've heard here so far. Ok: Country Honk? What the hell?! How did I never know this existed? What an interesting take - apparently the way Honky Tonk Women was supposed to sound. I also really enjoyed Let It Bleed too. It's not a song I was familiar with and it was probably the standout from the album.

This was pretty solidly good. Very bluesy/americana sounding for a British band

classic album by the stones, bookended by two of their most recognizable songs: “gimme shelter” and “you can’t always get what you want”. quality.

Слушал с удовольствием, раза три.

This is one of the best Stones albums, it's right in the pocket of when they could do no wrong. That whole era for many bands (66-74) was a perfect time musically. Anyway, this album is a treat from front to back. Biggest Hit - Gimme Shelter Biggest Miss (if I had to choose) - You Got The Silver Biggest Hit Honorable Mention - You Can't Always Get What You Want

Solid singles, overall pretty solid album.

The Rolling Chads 4.5

It's just a shot away."; "A guerra, crianças, yeah (...)

didn't know rolling stone sound like this

i always knew that I'm target audience for the rolling stones.

Nothing more solid than the Rolling Stones

4/5 https://rateyourmusic.com/release/album/rolling-stones/let-it-bleed-1/ Undeniably a good album, but it also just verifies I don't really care much for Rolling Stones. It might be a matter of listening to them more, but first album listens have not convinced me yet. This is one of the better ones I've heard by them, gotta admit that.

Good album, would have been a fan if I was born in 1950

unexpectedly peak??

Good stuff. Classic. Listened to it twice through.

Dad rock tendencies in the best way. Quite a later sound here I’d say, though that’s just to speak of The Rolling Stones’ timeless quality and their place as a fundamental band. The overpowering guitar and loud vocals were surprisingly not too much for me. I felt like this level of self-indulgence was truly earned. Ending with the glorious track, You Can’t Always Get What You Want, is a great example of what I mean. It’s a track that builds off itself and takes time to grow. It becomes a glorious spectacle and ends the album with a point of finality. I had to reflect and appreciate the power from the sincerity across the entire record. A classic for a reason that still holds up today. Faves: You Can’t Always Get What You Want, Gimme Shelter, Midnight Rambler, Live With Me, Monkey Man, Let It Bleed

Just an overall great album. Tons of great songs, really shows why the Stones are one of the pioneers of rock. 6/9 added to Ear Candy.

Gritty and broody. Great mix as well

I thought I would like this album more than I did. It really starts off strong with "Gimme Shelter" but then nothing else really spoke to me after. Still a good listen. 7/10

flashes of brilliance but overall not quite as good as the other rolling stones one

More blues than expected and recognized less than I expected. But a good listen, different vibes

Really good, with some all-timer songs, but definitely not their best album overall. Probably somewhere between a 3 and a 4, but I’ll round up on the strength of Gimme Shelter.

Gear: Hifiman HE6se v2 SE Artwork: 🎂⚫🍽️ Production (Remastered 2019): 🎧😘🤌 Music: 🧨😐🧨 Rating: 🧛🧛🧛🧛(🧛)/5

Perhaps my favorite Stones album. Many great songs - opening and closing tracks being my favorite.

A couple weaker tracks in the middle, but for the most part very good with a couple classics.

Very solid stuff

I still feel like it's a few tracks removed from greatness

pretty decent id say

Two all time classic songs but between them, it's a hit and miss

Ik had best een wel iets tegen The Rolling Stones, weet niet helemaal waarom. Vond dit echt leuk eigenlijk

You Cant Always Get What You Want is veilig een top 3 Stones nummer. Verder meer dan prima rockplaatje.

The first and last songs in this album are rock solid, but the middle was a little lacking for me

Prettyyyy solid album. They’re not my fav artist but this was a pleasant listen

I am way more of a Beatles guy than a Rolling Stones guy. In fact, really, I'm a Kinks fan through and through. I know all the Stones hits, but I don't think I've ever listened to a full album in any depth. Thoroughly enjoyed this. The so-called filler songs are really good bar band songs, and there ain't nothing wrong with that. And the first and last song, the hits, are dynamite.

The middle 7/9 tracks are country/blues inspired rock tracks that are fine but not particularly noteworthy. But the first song is Gimme Shelter and the last song is You Can't Always Get What You Want, which are easily good enough to carry this album to a 4.

gimme shelter - 8/10 love in vain - 9/10 country honk - 7/10 live with me - 8/10 let it bleed - 9/10 midnight rambler - 9/10 you got the silver - 9/10 monkey man - 7/10 you can always get what you want - 8/1”

I like it. The music is very good and very heartfelt. I have a hard time with lyrics (in general) but it's good even not understanding a bit. More than 4 less than 5

Pre Muscle Shoals but you can tell they are on their way to southern Alabama...

Honestly I fuck with this heavily like 8/10 minimal Like very 60s and ooooo how I love that This is honestly so gas I lowkey love this

One of the greatest moments in back up singer history occurred because Mick and Keith decided that they needed a woman to sing the chorus at midnight.

Stones emerging as the tour de force of bluesy rock and roll, with classic opening and closing tracks

I like the Stones, but somehow I expected a little bit more from this album. Gimme Shelter and You Can't Always Get What You Want are amazing tracks, but the others don't really stand out to me THAT much. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the album. 7.5 / 10

Great stuff but there’s better stones material

distorted rough mix mandolin? harmonica “live with me” slaps groovy guitar lines flute great drums great vocals on “midnight rambler” great reverb awesome crescendo killer piano interesting bells on “monkey man” interesting horns on final track great choir on final track 4/5

Solid album

The hits are great, but some low end filler too.

While not the best of the classic heavy blues rock run, still a solid album driven by solid singles

I liked this a lot more than I thought I would. It’s fun rock, and there are a few very folksy songs. Overall a great bop. Mom will be very happy

A contender with Beggars Banquet for the best Stones album. Still hard to love as sandwiched between arguably their best song (Gimme Shelter) and one of their most gloriously over the top (You Can't Always Get... is a random assortment (AGAIN) of songs ripping off everything American. Still, most of it was pretty good.

A good album bookended with two great tracks in "Gimme Shelter" and "You Can't Always Get What You Want." "Country Honk" is also a fun version of a very good Stones song. I don't know why, but I'm always surprised by how bluesy and honky-tonk their music is, but it's a pleasant surprise each time. 4/5

Not my favorite Stones album but still pretty great. I like the dabble into country and the fact that it's a bit gritty.

First time ever listening to the album, enjoyable.

Oh so the Rolling Stonws are actually good. Who knew? I dig the strong blues influences, the guitar riffs are sick, and Midnight Rambler is a killer track

This album has my favorite RS song ("Can't Always Get...") and arguably their best song ("Gimme Shelter") which includes one of the most incredible vocal performances of all time with the middle-of-the-night vocals from Merry Clayton. That song kinda creeps me out though.

enjoyed this much more than I expected tbh. 4!

Um bom álbum.

Groovy, heavy sax, favorite is midnight rambler, 7.2/10

After going through all the Stones albums on this list I have realised that for me the Rolling Stones is more of a singles band than an albums band. Gimme Shelter is by far my favourite song of theirs. Country Tonk is a worse version than Honky Tonk Woman. You Can’t Always Get What You Want is also excellent. The rest on this album are ok. In saying that this is the Stones album I’ve enjoyed the most on the list other than Exile. I’ll be sticking to their 40 Licks compilation for regular rotation.

Lil bluesy bluesy, I enjoyed a couple songs

Goats.

i liked the first track ”Gimme Shelter” quite a lot because of the intro with the humming/woo and the guitar part. Overall, I had a great time listening to the whole album. It was a surprise that some of the songs i already has in my playlist were in this album!

Sometimes a band or an album can really surprise you. The opening track is so potent. Many of the rest of the tracks seem to indicate that the stones were most definitely playing black mans music, sometimes quite well. I'd always kinda dismissed the stones, but sometimes you get reminded of what you've missed out on! while some of the tracks are really not up my street, the fact that they're real musicians and it's guitar+bass+drums+vocals combination that I tend to fall back to has made me listen to most of this all the way through

Favorite Tracks: Love in Vain / Country Honk / Let It Bleed / Monkey Man / You Can't Always Get What You Want Rating: 3.9 Listened to the (50th Anniversary Edition/Remastered 2019) version. The Stones take on a bunch of different rock/blues genres, and more or less succeed. An enjoyable listen, although the opener and closer are really stand out tracks.

great stuff

i heard this in full a looooong time ago, but my memory is foggy. i'll listen again for rating purposes Gimmie Shelter - 5/5 Love in Vain - 4/5 Country Honk - 3/5 Live With Me - 4/5 Let It Bleed - 4/5 Midnight Rambler - 3/5 You Got the Silver - 4/5 Monkey Man - 5/5 You Can't Always Get What You Want - 5/5 Average score: 4.1/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

put it on shuffle; live with me: 7/10 You Got The Silver: 8/10 midnight rambler: 6/10 let it bleed: 8/10 love in vain: 9/10 you can't always get what you want: 9/10 monkey man: 6/10 gimme shelter: 7/10 country honk: 8/10

Finally, a Stones album that isn’t about how terrible women are!

Solid listen. Sounds like a lot of good 60s rock but with some twang

Previous review: really good album! love monkey man, and gimme shelter. Makes me want to watch Vietnam footage I like this album better than sticky fingers or beggars banquet.

Same as everyone else, two stone cold classics and then a lot of competent honky tonk and blues that deserve points for being in a clear coherent theme, and all very listenable, but not enough to make the album as a whole of 5

Jeazus it opens with Gimme Shelter? Fucking hell. I was thinking about how this must have blown away stones fans when this came out, but it appears that Beggars Banquet (with Sympathy for the Devil) came out the year before, so this would sound like a continuation. But still, what a choon. And ends with You Can't Always Get What You Want, which still sounds freaking great. Both amazing. But, too many of the in-between tracks are too much like white brits discovering blues, which ain't my bag. Still, I was amazingly surprized by Country Honk, which is a country(ish) version of Honkey Tonk Woman, which apparently was released separately as a single. Paused the album to listen to the single and ya know what? The country version is better to my ears. Dig the fiddle work. Look ma, I'm learning things. Also Monkey Man, which Nick Cave could have written years later. Similar sounding chord progressions with some poetic raving over top. I'm thinking that I prefer the rock tracks on this album. Like. Also in listening to this it's cool to hear how the bands I grew up on borrowed heavily on this concoction. I'm thinking mostly Primal Scream's more rockin tracks, and even a bit of Spiritualized (cuz white brits doing blues). I think I'll eventually get this on vinyl, given that it'll sound great on the Belles.

Great album! Has one of my favorite songs by the stones in gimme shelter!

Awesome

Goodi vibes

Let it A, Let it B, Let it C

Listened to a million times.. great .. overplayed for me.

Great bluesy sound. Maybe their best?

Fun. Country tonk honking good time.

*1969. *Starts with Gimme Shelter and ends with Can't Always Get What You Want.... hard to argue with that. *Enjoyed this one. RATING - 7.5/10

Got a handful of stone cold classics, hits the bluesy-country vibes it's going for (but sometimes seems like it's making a little fun, as in the title track)

Maybe this was amazing at the time but feels routine now. Very good but nothing special.

A great album of mostly vibey blues music, bookended with two of the greatest Stones songs ever recorded. It would be hard for me to give an album that knocks things out of the park with Gimme Shelter so completely less than 4, but I kinda feel like I needed more than vibes in the middle to give this a full 5. It's a 4.5/5 for sure.

Album #2 so far from the Rolling Stones (we already heard Sticky Fingers)…how many more will there be? Well, this is one of their best. This one includes “You Can’t Always Get What You Want”, “Gimme Shelter”, “Honky Tonk Woman’’s precursor, and the title track. This is the first time I’ve heard the entire record, and I’m realizing that there’s a lot of blues and country influence on this album. 4.5 out of 5.

Fascinating & a bop. Can’t stay still while listening to it, and I really love the vocals!!!!!

GIMME SHELTER chunky guitar tone - so yum! really cool vocal harmonies in the chorus, - sounds like octaves but not sure, its really powerful solid bass, keeps it all chugging along guitar solo - i cant tell if its lead + rhythm playing together at the start, but sick solo, i love the repetition of musical ideas really interesting lyricism and concept LOVE IN VAIN omg the slides and arpeggiated acoustic make me want to cry so emotional love the 6/8 omg hard hitting drum beats with the country-esque guitar bends is SICKK is it a banjo solo? cant tell, the tone sounds very banjo but it could just be high up on the frets nice bass - i love the way its constantly leading into the next lyrics or musical idea COUNTRY HONK raw sound with the fiddle and distant vocals it literally sounds like its been recorded from a bar i love it im getting really massive country influences from this album - should have guessed from the dong titles omg sounds like theyre using acoustic (possibly upright) bass! yipeeeee i love some fun fiddle - really cool solo, but theres like stretched out notes - maybe theres more than 1 LIVE WITH ME holy shit that bass tone is sexy guitar is leaving nice space, but still cool lyricism is obvious but still nuanced i love the keys in the background - reaalllyyy bluesy i hear some horns as well love the growls omg oh yes sax solo eats - soooooo chunky quite a raw sound aswell but in saying that it doesnt become any less tight LET IT BLEED hello woah ok tremolo this feels really classic stones but almost more bluesy and jazzy im lowkey giving up on details and im just going to give an overall review - 7.5/10

I liked it!

Pretty good: but not a classic.

But boy, could he play guitar.... Keith's prowess shines on this album. A few skips, but some amazing songs like Gimme Shelter, You Can't Always Get What You Want, Midnight Rambler and one that I hadn't paid much attention to before: Monkey Man.

This one has some real standouts. On the other end, I can't figure out if Country Honk is serious or satire, but I'm leaning towards the latter.

Down & dirty rock & roll. Edgy & a little raunchy. Some all time great tunes here. Midnight Rambler, Gimme Shelter, You Can’t Always Get What You Want. The band is firing on all cylinders, the rhythm section in particular.

A quilt. Every square is unique to itself held together by thin, yet strong thread. Together, warm and comforting.

released 1969. 8th album blending rock, blues and country music, statement for the end of a turbulent decade songs i already knew: none songs i liked: midnight rambler fun facts: album in the 2005 grammy hall of fame. mick jagger one of the founding members whilst recording the album lead singer Brian Jones was replaced with Mick Taylor due to being unreliable and his heavy drug use, and died a month after being fired. my mum saw them in the 90s!

Great record, and unfortunately Brian Jones' last wirh the group, but a good one to go out on.

Country Honk was a fun song between muddled songs in the middle. Gimme Shelter and You Can’t Always Get What You Want alone make this a worthwhile listen.

yeah strong opener. the middle songs kind of blend together but i like let it bleed through the end of the album.

A classic, always a joy and still sounds funky and raw today

Very Listenable- good mix of speed and sound throughout the album. 8/10

68-74 is a pocket of time when The Stones only made great albums. I love Let It Bleed but it’s not close to my favourite of that era. Nevertheless it’s always a treat to take down from the shelf. Some great album tracks as well as the famous classics. What I noticed on this listen was how grimy and burnt out they already sound. Not burnt out as if they aren’t performing as well as they could (far from it, even the loosest sounding songs benefit greatly from their mastery of looseness!) rather they sound like they’ve already got the weight of their imminent woes on their shoulders.

It is yet another embarrassing thing to admit but I have never heard a Rolling Stones album in full until this very point. I have heard many of their songs before and would consider myself a fan of some extent but once again I didn't know what to expect when going through 40+ minutes of their music. Thankfully I feel Let It Bleed was probably the best place I could have started when it came to their music. Let It Bleed is easily one of the most feel-good albums of all time and it feels so fitting to hear this at the very beginning of the new year. It may not be this big loud Rock album a lot of people would expect from the stones, but it is a more calm and welcoming Blues Rock album that shows some of the finer details of the band's chemistry as well as their writing skills in a much brighter way than usual. The Rolling Stones know how to have a good time with themselves and their sound and I feel this album is the perfect kickback album to drink a beer with a bunch of friends to. How could you not have a great time to Gimme Shelter, Country Honk, or You Can't Always Get What You Want, they are timeless classics in my eyes?!

i read the reviews and this was rated so high, but honestly imo this was just an ok album ok tbf this album not rlly the kind of music i listen to either so i cant be unfair but it was an ok album, just that i wouldnt really listen to it and nth really stood out to me anw in conclusion, 7/10

Classic.

Not their best album

Really solid classic rock album, I’m a big fan of the rolling stones and I knew a few songs off this album already. Great vocals and incredible guitar work. Standout Songs: Gimme Shelter Country Honk Live With Me Let It Bleed Monkey Man You Can’t Always Get What You Want

1.gimme shelter 2.live with me 3.monkey man 4.you got the silver 5.love in vain

12/21/25 Great album for a car trip day! Breadth of musical talent. 8/10

You can't always get what you want

Good album, quite diverse with two great songs, but just not enough to make five stars

Gooood album bro

Genius marketing to put your two good songs on either end of the album. I've always preferred the Beatles, if we're making that comparison, but the Stones are fine. Mick Jagger's kinda so-so though.

I kinda wanted to be a curmudgeon about this one, but no, it’s a fantastic album. I listened to it twice!

A nice mellow rock album, really nice background music that's upbeat and funky. Would like the record.

Listens: 4 Standout Tracks: Gimme Shelter, Monkey Man, You Can't Always Get What You Want I think I need to go back and revise the ratings on some of the other Rolling Stones albums I've heard so far. Let It Bleed is far and away better than their 1964 self-titled album. It's better than Beggars Banquet. It's better than Exile On Main Street (which I need to listen to again now that I've listened to Liz Phair's Exile In Guyville). All that's left for me now is Sticky Fingers and Aftermath. Gimme Shelter alone is worth rating this album a 4. I guess I've drastically misunderstood the Rolling Stones. I had always been under the impression (based on their popular singles) that they were a classic rock band like Aerosmith or The Eagles or Journey or Pink Floyd, but they clearly have way more of a blues streak that absolutely does not come out in their hit songs. This is still weird to me that an English band does the Blues genre so well. The blues genre just seems so American to me.

Fav track: Midnight Rambler I like this album! Ofc it has the iconic singles, “Gimme Shelter” and “You Can’t Always Get What You Want”, but I actually appreciated the majority of the tracks! I heard a more American “southern rock” style flair that I wasn’t expecting. Particularly on “Midnight Rambler” and “You Got That Silver.” I’m curious if that style of playing was popular in 1969 specifically. Overall great album!

Not too much to say about this that hasn't already been said. The 2nd of what is considered to be the classic 4 album Stones run and with reason. The Stones at their bluesy best and contains my personal favourite song of theirs in _Gimme Shelter_ which is just the epitome of cool!

This album has two of the Stones' top ten songs of all time sandwiched between seven of the most forgettable Stones songs of all time. Now, they are also the blues kind of Stones songs that I love, so I'm hear for it, but they are objectively not the Stones' best work. Influence 4. Quality 5. Intangibles 4. Hits 3. I'm not a Stones guy, but this is the type of Stones guy I would be if I was 4.

Joda, det va ikke så verst det heller, og man sikre sæ jo ganske greit, i ettertidas lys, når man avslutte med You Can’t Always Get What You Want, dem skal ha den.

They could have changed their band name to Rocking Stones for this album and people would have been all like "yeah, they sure are."

Right on

Iconic songs but some lame stuff too.

Liked it

Hey that’s pretty good

Interesting. I didn't realize the Stone had such a twangy country sort of sound to them; I had always thought of them as being pretty straightforwardly rock. Per Wikipedia: " Released during the band's 1969 American Tour, it is the follow-up to Beggars Banquet (1968), and, like that album, is a return to the group's more blues-oriented approach that was prominent in the pre-Aftermath (1966) period of their career. Additional sounds on the album draw influence from gospel, country blues and country rock." I heard the country more than the blues on a cold listen, but once it's pointed out, the blues is very clear too. Wikipedia article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Let_It_Bleed

meaningful lyrics, heart, and lovely sax.

This album is like when a bar in your hometown throws a high profile exclusive party once every year. It is something pretentious like an 'all-white' party, where everyone can only wear plain white clothes. Aside from the thinly-veiled racist undertones, it is absolutely the place to be. It gets high profile guests in the form of national sporting heroes, tv stars, comedians, and all the hottest social media influencers which are sadly high profile celebrities in this day and age. One year, you finally manage to score an invite from your workmate whose wife's old flatmate works in event management. You are so hyped for this day. You don your finest Wimbledon-worthy attire, and head on in. Initially, it is the greatest event you have ever been to. Someone hands you a negroni as you walk in the door. The music is loud, and a famous Swedish DJ is firing up a track, telling the crowd to let go of all their inhibitions. That Swedish DJ couldn't possibly fathom just how loose the grip on your inhibitions is gonna be tonight. You manage to strike up a conversation with a stupidly attractive heiress to a software empire. Things couldn't get better than this right? After three drinks you foolishly tell her how you got a ticket to this party, and she walks off. Doesn't even say goodbye. And then it all comes crashing down. You look around and notice that nobody is actually having much fun, they are just taking selfies for their instagram feed. That guy just ordered a club soda, what the fuck? There is amazing food on offer, but nobody is eating anything. You're not letting this get you down though. You order a pint of Guinness and down it in four seconds. Some dribbles on your shirt but you don't care. Everyone here is pretentious and you don't care to make friends. You get hopped up on fancy beers, don't talk to anyone, and make use of the free taxi home that the event provides. That first half hour of the party was amazing though. You'll post some pics to your instagram so that your friends think you are high society.

Starts strong with a great tunes. Couple flat ones there after but then picks up again. Overall a quality listen.

Gimmee Shelter is one of my favorite songs of all time and it's inclusion almost carried it to 4 by itself. The rest of the album was very good too though.

Pretty great album.

I usually dont like the Rolling Stones but WOW this blew me away. I like THESE stones! Im a picky stoner!

Very enjoyable and consistent, but it's really striking to me just how larger than life Gimme Shelter and YCAGWYW are. It's a bunch of pretty down to earth (but also catchy and energetic) blues rock cuts sandwiched between these absolute titans of the genre. And they hit a lot different when you choose to hear them rather than hearing them on the radio for the billionth time!

2nd Stones album in this experience and this one is significantly better than the first one I got. Those big hits are hitting and the other songs in-between don't take away too much from the album. I'd probably give it a 3.5/5 if I could but I have no problem rounding it up to a 4/5.
