Boring 2

Didn’t get through it it was ok

Snoozefest. Bring back 70s ABBA

Not gonna lie, I didn’t even make it all the way through this one

There’s something quite appalling that happens if you listen long enough. You start finding yourself tapping along occasionally, despite it being unconscionable drivel. It is at least a polished turd, in that it’s well produced and it’s catchy, of a kind. But it’s so bad. The idea of someone seeking this out to listen to is baffling. Also understand abba making it on because of their position in the musical zeitgeist, but why this album? Anyway, it’s done now - I never need to listen again and that’s a happy thought indeed.

This is so dull.  The mature "advanced" ABBA with limited over the top gloss.   Good news, you would think.  NO just means you don't even get the involuntary foot tapping they usually conjure.  Absolute dross. Is there actually any melody to the vocals too it's like a boring musical.  The production is cold, sparse and just tedious to add to it (lots of crap synth).   My bar was so low I was willing to accept that its possible that in a peak of their career something inspiring might have occurred.  Turns out I don't like whatever this melancholy flog fest is either!  I will continue my endeavor to avoid ABBA at all costs!

2/10 horrible

As usual I just don’t get why people like ABBA. It’s so overly theatrical, to the point of pageantry

When listening to these albums I try to read up a bit on the artist, to get context to their work. I find it hilarious that Spotify has paragraphs and paragraphs of introduction and history for some one-albumed artist, and yet for ABBA there's barely anything. On a musical note, this was pants. Did not enjoy it in the slightest.

The opening of Visitors filled me with Dread, as an ABBA sceptic it sounded like an even more eighties version to the more popular ABBA sound. Once passed the initial intro i was quite surprised to find an unexpected enjoyable track with more depth than i’d associate with ABBA . Unfortunately this was not continued and the next couple of tracks just feeling like the band’s normal yhrow away pop. Let the music speak sounds like it was written more for a musical than this album and doesn’t work for me. I had thought i didn’t know any of the tracks on this album, but i did recognise One of Us, which was enjoyable enough even if you can already hear the beginnings of I Knew Him So Well. The remaining songs are frankly dull

Possible to really like Abba...no

First DNF Boring, plain, lazy. Sounds like they copy-pasted the same song 13 times with small variations. It is difficult to justify labeling this as an album, let alone its inclusion in 1001 albums.

I have never really liked ABBA. So an album minus the hits is not going to be for me

Is there a minus star rating available? Why any Abba album would be anywhere near this list blows my mind. I thought this was about GOOD music?

In a nutshell: the inferior double divorce album. It’s rough to compare The Visitors to Rumours, but it’s hard not to. The music composition and lyrics definitely reflect the mood of the band at the time. I can feel in-studio awkwardness and tension. Overall: 2/10

Gibt besseres von ABBA

Not for me.

I never got ABBA and I still don’t

Not my vibe. I like some abba but this ain’t it. I’m torn between a 1 and 2, I don’t really wanna hear any of this again

Not good . Really corny

I've only heard the uber popular Abba songs but never listened to any other music of theirs let alone a whole album. Let me tell you, after listening to this album I can tell you I'm not an Abba fan.

Not interested

I didn’t expect to enjoy an ABBA album very much, but this was even worse than I imagined. Even my ABBA-tolerant wife was disappointed.

Ikke noget for mig

i do not respect abba.

Okay, I am not going to listen to this fully. Some of their hits are wonderful (and I can sing the words to all these songs, well, because I am of a certain age and I listened to the radio in the smallish Oregon town from whence I came): Dancing Queen, Take A Chance..., Mamma Mia, SOS, Fernando, Waterloo.... But that next level? I hope I never hear those songs ever again. And this album is full of next level "ABBA hits," which aren't hits at all (at least in my opinion). I listened to a sampling of that album and I wasn't impressed. Swedish (European) pop is puerile and I don't care who I insult. This album, even in a short/truncated version, was banal. No way this album should be included in a best of/1001 albums to hear before you die. When I pass, I will not (repeat, NOT) regret ever hearing the full album of this shite! Please...this is an insult to about 5 Beatles albums that didn't make this list, several Rolling Stones albums not to mention some albums that will never make these lists by artists such as Mark Lanegan, Cat Power, Mount Eerie, Felt, Andrew Bird, Bad Brains, Engine Kid, Kyuss, Mimi/Richard Fariña, etc., etc.... Yikes, this was just horrid. -11 stars.

Very Broadway sounding. Just OK

You know all those great ABBA songs you like? This album has none of them. This is a wish.com version of ABBA. Hey ChatGPT make me an ABBA album but make it 65% less interesting so they don’t think we ripped them off.

No es de mi gusto.

I'm skipping this one because I really can't stand ABBA lol

Fryktelig

Disappointing. I like ABBA but not this album. The songs are listless and lack any groove or energy.

Abba is a one hit wonder as far as I am concerned

Weird. Sucks. 80's pop is trash, this is like a shitty 80's pop musical.

It’s like the entirety of the history of Swedish musical theatre was condensed into one poppy little ball of insufferable sunshine. I have to admit that there’s a few abba songs I don’t entirely despise, but this album doesn’t feature any of them, thus, no redeeming qualities are anywhere to be found. 1*

Definitely falls into the category of I'd be happy to never hear this again. Just grating and moist of the time sounds like a musical soundtrack.

Couldn't finish it

I don't like this song because it's too sad and the start is not good I don't like this song because it is my type of song

def not for me

Not for me. 1/5

Not for me.

- fuck you -

I saw one reviewer divided the world into those who love ABBA and those who pretend not to love them. Well, I don't fit into either category. Yes, they've released some all time pop favourites and yes, they're iconic but that doesn't mean I want to listen to them. I took in a few soundbites of three songs and they all sounded like any other ABbA song. Pass.

Not really my thing. Not as Disco-y as other ABBA projects, but still.

Oh my god noooooooo

Man, I tried. I really tried.

I had only heard the charting singles from this when I was a youngster. Listening to it now, I don't feel I missed out on anything. Not their best work.

Meh, boring pop. Not ABBA's best, and ABBA aren't the best.

Flowery, light, airy music that sounds more like something from a stage production than an actual album of music. Without any hooks and hits, this is Abba stripped down to their basics. I hated it.

I just can't

Grrr I have never liked this band. I still don't like this band, even though this album is not as bad as Arrival

Aaaaaand Nope I tried, but apparently I just don’t like this kind of music. Zero stars. Utter garbage. Couldn’t even find a redeeming thing to say. Hate it. A lot.

Forgot to check if the deluxe edition had more tracks until I was halfway through the extra stuff. Though to be fair by doing so I heard I am the city which was the best track, even if it heavily ripped off does your mother know. Never heard of any of these tracks, and after listening to them theres a good reason for that. It's pretty much devoid of hooks but I wouldn't say it's more complex or deep than their hits, it's just more dull. Guess they'd ran out of ideas. Don't think this album should be on here, I hope this doesn't mean we have to listen to another half a dozen abba albums.

A pop album with no tracks popular enough for me to know. No surprises in how it sounded, all pretty dull really. Not for me

Couldn't finish it. Beyond garbage.

There’s definitely better abba than this that this list is going to make me listen to.

Another ABBA album, another 1 star.

This is not my jam. It just seems wrong to listen to this while reading about Steve Albini's untimely death. He would have hated this.

Abba is not for me

48/1001 🌕🌑🌑🌑🌑

Not my thing

Disco band trying to remain relevant in 1981? 1/5

Sappy 80’s pop, by a Sappy group. Always got to much hype as a group. Music is all the same . Boring.

Disappointing. No big catchy riffs here

Not my style c

Em sorprèn que un grup s'hagi pogut fer tan famós quan només tenen 1 cançó i cada àlbum és 14 la cançó 14 vegades seguides

Really not into this disco stuff. The words are boring and cliché to me as well. The videos are awful, they make me think that the whole point of feminism for the women of Abba was in order to me able to go shopping and buy kooky outfits.

What is ABBA without the hits? I once went to a zoo and saw a giraffe without a neck, a leopard without spots, a cheetah who sniffed at so much as a jog. At first, I marvelled at the novelty and felt sorry for the poor creatures. But then I saw the owl with a stiff neck, the kangaroo without bounce, the penguin who had forgotten where they'd left their tuxedo again, and I started to feel cheated. What was the point?

Abba's hits make me a die a little inside. So a full album of abba non-hits makes me die a lot inside. One of the worst things to ever happen to music.

Melancholy Abba is not my bag

Refused to listen.

slipping through my fingers is a lovely song the rest of it was wank

Flat packed crap

We all know ABBA sucks, but they had potential to be great. That’s what annoys me. They just continually committed to the cheese. Take the first track as an example. Sounds cool until the chorus.

I regret being a visitor to this album.

I don’t even like ABBA’s popular songs

I get it. People who like to possibly like radio pop would totally dig this. Good for them. But this is hollow pop crap. And the hit count on this one is lower than their other efforts, meaning it's hollow pop crap that doesn't have the hooks. So it's just crap.

I hate ABBA. I hated this slightly less.

I would say didn’t listen in a way because although it was on, it’s so forgettable I didn’t really listen. It’s no offensive at all, just dull.

1.5 Look listmakers I warned you - If I was forced to listen to any more ABBA, bad things were going to happen. However, after browsing the tracklist and not recognizing any of the songs, I went in with my violent urges at bay, and fortunately, the opening title track was immediately enough of an interesting and new wave-esque evolution of their sound that I was fully talked off that ledge. Unfortunately, it devolves back into a lot of the classic ABBA bullshit immediately after, but as a whole I can concede there is a sense of maturation and progression from their prior sound. The Visitors is a good tune. Would probably never listen to anything else off this ever again by choice, but if I had to, I guess it’s better than anything else of theirs I’ve heard. That being said, consider this your final warning, 1001 Albums.

Terrible

There's apparently no such thing as a good Abba album. It's all just trash. "The Visitors" is a solid hour of trash. Thanks for that.

i cannot be arsed with ABBAs space disco music. i understand what they did for the world of pop music, i understand they are massive and unique, but i don't understand how this list could give us an ABBA album with zero songs i've ever heard before. and what it's purpose is. utter tripe.

Absolute Bloody Big Awfulness

Said the blonde lady off of Abba regarding this album, "It really was a fucking nightmare because I got into drugs, alcohol, redheaded women and Burger King, and that combination, man, it’s the path to destitution. And that’s exactly where it took me. Life was killing me. I tried to mask the pain by drowning myself in cocaine and alcohol until I thought I was the Pope. I used to walk the streets in Soviet and Nazi uniforms. I put a sign outside my house encouraging burglars and left my front door open. I would lie under the bed wearing night vision goggles waiting for people to come in – and they never did. The intruders never came, the fucking cocksuckers. I was a complete mess." Or maybe it was someone else that said that about something else, something more interesting. It was probably someone else and definitely something more interesting. Carry on. Nothing to see here. Oh, the album? It's awful, it would have benefitted from some drugs, alcohol, redheaded women and Burger King.

I don't get ABBA's appeal and I'd be glad if I never heard it again, it bores me out of my mind. I'll give this album half a star for not being the 5 hits that you always hear and a second half because I am probably underappreciating something here.

This may well be some maturing directional shift for ABBA, but to my ears it's oompah music on synths. One of Us is still a great single, the rest is for my granny. I never saw ABBA as an albums band - they produced fantastic pop singles but I can't imagine finding depths over the course of a long player. This confirms my breezy prejudice.

Miksi TÄMÄ on se levy, joka näiltä pitäisi kuulla? Parin B-luokan hitin takia? Olen pahoillani, mutta suuri osa kappaleista on aivan sietämätöntä skeidaa, ja päädyin skippaamaan niitä, koska muuten olisin ärtymyksessäni jättänyt koko levyn kesken. Ovatkohan muut näiden lp:istä parempia?

It is very well that people who like ABBA can do so and be happy. It is also very well that people who hate ABBA can do so and be happy. This review is the latter. The dislike for ABBA does not leave much room for objectivity but this will try. The available recording on streaming is fine, a listener can hear the grating sound of their torturous wails quite well. The instrumentation wasted as a vehicle for existential angst, as the awareness of ABBA is one of pain and discomfort. ABBA has their fans and that is fine, but this was supposed to be about albums one should hear before death and this is just a pure waste of time.

Too much Abba in my life already

just awful

Knew none of these songs. Not much to say about it so it gets a 1 ⭐️

Terrible. 0 stars

why are you forcing me to listen to abba

Only listened to Side 1. Not my style, too poppy and disco. But the dark lyrical content of The Visitors was interesting.

Niet vol te houden...

Ik krijg echt jeuk van ABBA. Vervelend veel jeuk. Ofwel A-BAH.

Not for me.

ABBA are a miss and hit band to me. This is a miss. No outstanding songs or hits and the production is much to smooth.

In what world does an avowed Abba hater get 2 albums in the first five on this project? Didn't listen, couldn't do it to myself, even Partridge ironically

A little underwhelmed I was excited to hear something other than their heads and it's not very exciting

really not a fan. Not typically into the europop sound and this one was even blander than usual. wouldn't listen again (and kind of upset it will be in my spotify algo now). 1/5

Want to know how ABBA sounded before it was good? Well listen to this and find out, turns out they sounded like shit.

I started not hating this and maybe thinking I should rethink my ABBA prejudices. But it was a grower in the wrong way. Relentlessly being smacked with boring pop, endless over sentimental ballads about what I have no idea. By the last few songs I wanted the noise to stop I wanted me and the whole world to stop. A small peice of me died today.

Merely serves to remind me how much I dislike ABBA

'Abba are a huge band with loads of great songs, I have to put one of their albums on this list. And it can't just be a greatest hits' So you get this, which I'm guessing is the least mediocre Abba album, and it's pretty meh, feeling more like the soundtrack to a bad musical than an album.

Not my thing at all.

Totally get how fun they are as nostalgia -- such great representatives of their time and genre -- and it's a hoot at times to enjoy the slightly (or more than slightly at times) Eurovision cheesiness, but overall I find their music rather dull, and all those synths and soaring voices grate on me. No, thank you.

tortura

Abbanee, he

I was a little worried when the album started. I actually liked the first song and didn't mind the second. I was thinking "Oh lord,  don't tell me I'm going to give Abba a good review. What will the neighbours think?" Fortunately by the third track they returned to where I expected them.

¿Lo escuché?

MAN FUCK ABBA

All the calculated melodies, contrived hooks, banal lyrics, and cringe inducing pitch jumps you would expect from ABBA. I forced myself to listen to the whole album, waiting for it to get better, it didn't. The last track was so bad I didn't think I would make it, then I realized to my horror that was only the 11th of 13. One star for good engineering, you can hear all the layers clearly, this is a well produced and mixed album, the content itself is just very lame.

Not my bag.
