Go back to Stars Hollow, nerd

Each song reminded me of another, better song. Lots of derivative moments. Shining hour sounds pulled straight from The Waterboys Opening chord of Jupiter and Teardrop unashamedly borrowed from Moonage Daydream. And so on.
Eh
This is extremely 90s alternative in a way that I just don’t care too much about after 1018 albums
Okay............Who owed somebody a big enough favor to get this included on the list? Definitely not my jam.
Pretty meh of an album at least on first listen. Found the first song or two good enough to bop my head to but fell off it quickly. Not the worst mind.
50/100
Not terrible, but also not compelling. Suffers in places from some of the early 90s production stalwarts (a nigh-suffocating amount of studio reverb, instruments mixed into the background beyond the point of notice). In general, it's pretty rare to get ear-catching tone choices from instruments in this era of music production; guitars sound anemic, the bass disappears and the drums are just ok). The best sound is late in the record on Dixie Drug Store and Grace, where the producer relents just a little on the overbearing reverb. All the same, the whole thing lacks texture. Grant Lee Phillips himself sounds like he's taken influences from Bob Dylan and Eddie Vedder -- two talents to be sure, but idiosyncratic in their vocal delivery to say the least. Lyrically, the effect is a bit indistinct at times and less emotive for it. The overall feel is more of the darkness and angst of Alice in Chains than Dylan or Pearl Jam. He's got talent (Phillips's range comes through a bit better with the closer, You Just Have to Be Crazy, but it's too late by that point). In all, nice to hear some truly alternative voices from the early 90s, but I'd rather listen to Sloan or Thrush Hermit. There's talent here, but not enough drive to compel further listens. With that said, I'll remain curious to hear more from this group, even if I'm not returning to Fuzzy for a full listen.
I didn’t hate this but the vibe for me was very “CD my parents bought on sale at barnes & noble in the mid-90s but never played and is still collecting dust in a corner of the cabinet.” 2.5 rounded down.
Hmm not sure what to say about this one. A good sound, almost like a calm 70s southern rock vibe, but coated in early 90s sounds? Nice, but not too captivating
Wordy, sometimes whiny, mostly acoustic alternative.
Mehh roleg ekkert spes
Va kje heilt for meg detta
This just made me kinda sleepy tbh
eh, nothing special.
Troubadour! Chillin' with some Gilmore Girls! They plucked him from complete obscurity and gave him a humble space in Stars Hollow to occupy with his musical noodling and musings. It feels like a value bin CD from Walmart that I might have been able to get into in the 90's. But I'm too old now for this formulaic and manufactured "poignancy" to strike the desired chord with.
Þetta er ekkert sérstakt. Ekki alsæmt þó.
Totally bland. Why is it on this list?
mmm, not moving
I really don't see how this album is considered a must listen. Nor do I see how R.E.M's Michael Stipe called this the album of the year in 1993. Was music just bad in '93? Don't get me wrong, this isn't bad, but it's probably among the most generic sounding thing I've heard so far in this list of albums. I don't get it. I don't like it. Dixie Drug Store was interesting, at least. The rest had me like America, snoring.
A solid ‘meh’
I wavered constantly being hating this and kinda not minding it. It was a tormenting listen. None of the songs particularly interested me.
shame he couldnt decide on a genre it was alright but could have been better
The name GRANT LEE BUFFALO screams country, but the cover photo says it's not gonna be that cool. Ok no, it's not that cool. 90s alternative of some kind. And it's garbage. Nothing worth my time here. 2/5.
Doesn't appear to be as good as any of his obvious influences. Mediocre.
Didn’t know this artist before listening, can’t remember this artist after listening. Sorry buddy.
Kind of annoying to be honest
Tome was not my friend so I only half listened to this. What I heard wasn't working for me
According to the WIKIpedia article, 'R.E.M.'s Michael Stipe praised Fuzzy as "the best album of the year hands down".' It would appear Michael Stipe and I have wildly differed musical tastes. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2003_in_music -- Decide for yourself.

This was ok
cranboneeeee
This was alright, nothing wow but not bad
Apparently Grant Lee Buffalo is a band, rather than a man or indeed a buffalo (as per Peter Rabbit, Rupert Bear or Phileas D. Hedgehog). From this, they seem to have a penchant for 90s soft rock music that washes over you. It is a not unpleasant experience, but also not one that you are likely to recall 10 mins later. Rating: 2.5/5 Playlist track: Jupiter And Teardrop Date listened: 14/02/23
Meh
Kinda folksy and boring. Not for me.
First song sucks, not a great start - skip. Second song "Jupiter and Teardrop" is completely different and I like it. Fuzzy is next and it's really nice as well. Lots of nothing in the middle. America is Snoring, and so am I... Sounds like he's trying his best impression of Bono, and failing. Poor vocals, instrumentals and production. The worst part for me is the lyrics, no depth or emotion.
I know I listened to this but I barely remember doing so. Blah.
Beyond this list, this felt like a middle of the road album by a knock off of other better albums. I couldn’t place it but it just felt like I’d heard songs like this before and it made me wish for those. No way does this album need to be on here.
The fact that Stars Hollow had a town troubadour was just one of the many fun quirks of "Gilmore Girls," but the troubadour and his songs were ultimately quite forgettable. And just as forgettable as town troubadour Grant Lee Phillips was, his previous incarnation as 90s rocker Grant Lee Buffalo was just as forgettable.
Fine, nothing more, nothing less. Perfectly serviceable 90s rock, but nothing stands out to me on this, won't listen again, and it drags towards the end. 2/5, not unpleasant but nothing worth recommending.
Mildly pretentious, though as much as I found the protest song a little full of itself, I still think it had a catchy melody. The vocals alternated between annoying me and genuinely enjoying them. Very 90s. Don't think I'll be revisiting it. Favorite tracks: "You Just Have to Be Crazy", "The Shining Hour"
Another one that didn't make my earholes bleed, but it was not interesting nor was it inspiring for me. It just became a drone in the background. My ears did perk to Dixie Drug Store, but not enough to save this album for me.
Okee dokee. I listened to that. What's next?
Never heard of this artist before. The first song had some pretty interesting lyrics and I kind of liked the music. Throughout the album I didn’t always get all the myriad of references and wasn’t always sure I knew what the lyrics were about… at other times they seemed way too spot on tied quite specifically to the early 90s. Speaking of the early 90s, I think I might have liked this album better then. Today it sounded muddled and didn’t really compel me to want to listen again.
Nothing too exciting.
Saturday, porch fest? Book pizza, stuffed pepp, weird thoughts about friends and choice and time and partners, home, drinky, bikey, monumenty, a good talk good vibes
Some moments I enjoyed but overall dragged
No thanks.
Dull. Not a sound worth galvanising.
Very boring - fine voice but nothing stood out
It sounded like it was muzak.
nada de mais
There are bright moments of interesting composition and guitar work on this LP (most notably the genre-androgynous title track), but most of the album just felt too pedestrian to be overly memorable
Como música de fondo
Honestly, didn't care for it. I like that they tried, but I can see why it didn't work
Not a fan
There were moments when I liked the music and his voice, but overall I thought it a weird and inconsistent album, and a band that didn't understand their sound or what style they were aiming for.
Kinda like a pop rock opiate dream. Not sure what I was supposed to take from it. {Prior rating}
What's special about this album? Is it the lyrics that don't seem to get anywhere interesting or introspective? Is it the instrumentals that feel bland after the first song? Is it the vocals, which sound like every other generic folk, or country, or Americana, or whatever the hell this is, singer? It's nothing special and it doesn't break the mold, which is a real shame.
Listened to it in the morning and it had no impact on me. Worked much better in the evening with the lights down low I thought. Still though...
Meh. Has all the right elements but somehow doesn't add up to much. His Mum should be proud of him but no-one else needs be. 2.5/5.
Dated early 90s rock. Reminded me of that No Alternative album.
Not digging this one. Has a college rock feel. Not very memorable. Lyrics and vocal line feel made up on the fly. America snoring is a highlight. Apparently front man grant compares himself to Neil Young. There's a very thick line between inspiration and imitation, and he's on the wrong side of it.
Didn't hate it. Didn't love it. Don't remember a single song. Was I asleep?
Mä en saa otetta tähän. Ei oikeen lähe. Vaatis ehkä jonku toisen mielentilan tai valiumii tai jotain... 2/5
boring
Kinda like a pop rock opiate dream. Not sure what I was supposed to take from it.
seems disjointed, couldn't get into it despite nice chords
boring
Some of the songs were good. Most of them were fine. I didn't particularly like it.
I listened all day and can't remember a song... 2/5
The moment I saw the album cover, name of the band and album cover, I knew I was going to hate this. After the first 30 seconds I wrote, “fuuuuck, I knew it.” But then after a while I realize even though I wanted to hate it, I didn’t really hate it. I heard I think all of the bands from the early 90s in their sound, Pixies, Morrissey, Jane’s Addiction, REM, Four Non-Blonds, Jeff Buckley, etc. mid way through there were a couple 4s in my rankings, surprised the breached 3. But then the lyrics started to stand out and I realized they were awful, Dixie Frug Store maybe the worst offender. And the quality dropped. Thank god I didn’t like it. 2.
His voice sounds very much like the waterboys on the first track, I swore he was irish and then saw it was an american rock group. It is not my favourite rock sound, like a mellow, laid back style of rock which doesn't resonate with me. It is pleasant enough though, I am happy to listen through. Not liking their choice of chords, they always seem so melancholy. It is making me feel a bit sad. America Snoring was better though.
The first song and the guy's voice are good. The rest of the album is not even worth mentioning.
I sorta like the sound, but not enough to listen to nearly an hour of it. It's indie folk with Americana influences. The tracks are nice to listen to individually, and there are many redeemable qualities that folk musicians can learn from, but the flaws get increasingly annoying as the album goes on, becoming almost monotonous by the 2nd half. Songwriting not particularly provoking or clear either.
I couldn't tell what this was, country? Rock? Country rock? Anyway it was shit
Forgettable
Feels like it is missing something, a little too country.
Inoffensive but uninspiring
Not bad, like a less interesting Frank Black
Is this album racist? It felt a little racist
Felt like clean grunge if that makes any sense. Back to back with Nirvana was an unfair comparison. It was ok.
Meh
Did not like. Just seems like a mishmash of Bowie, Neil Young, or Pixies tribute songs.
Meh
Pretty middle of the road for this genre wasn't bad but equally not interesting.
Ok. Like a weaker Jeff Buckley
Dull and long
can't stand the Gilmore girl town troubadour
Meh
It was alright, not necessarily my taste.
Average americana
The Shining Hour is such a good opening track, but the rest of the album never really lives up to that greatness in my opinion.
Music was there, just not my taste
it's aight.
This is the most generic shit I have ever heard. Reading some of the user reviews makes me wonder if we're listening to the same album. WTF are you all on about? While I have actively HATED albums and artists on this list, this is the least deserving of a spot. I find this less offensive to listen to than those others, but they were SOMETHING. This is like listening to AI generated Music Brand™ music. Michael Stipe, who's judgement I now question, said this was hands down the best album of 1993? Pearl Jam's vs came out that year, as did In Utero and Janet Jackson's janet. Achtung Baby and Eric Clapton's unplugged albums too. Sorry, but no. Trash. ⭐
No. I mustn't. Your list is going through a rough patch.
boring
Not great for the interval run I was doing. Was going to give 2 but then that last song really drove it down
Early 90s dude alt rock is really not my genre of choice. I found this so boring
aimless soft rock.
Old boy thought he was Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen combined. Turns out he’s just a Chris Gaines. Awful awful awful
I don’t get it, why are we here?
i found it boring
Droning and boring 1 star
Yawn.
Not sure what the deal is with the out-of-tune singing. Acoustic guitar offers a classic 90s atmosphere. Ultimately DNF.
Meh. This album was nothing special. Full on 90's alternative rock sound but I probably wouldn't recognize this guy if I heard him again...
Snoozefest
This list is comically, detrimentally 90s
govno
Would've loved for this to go anywhere or do anything, but it instead settles for loads of 90's acoustic rock pastiche. Karaoke-level singing allowed by the onset of Pearl Jam a few years earlier really rears it's ugly head on this album. "The Hook" almost had me hopeful for something of substance, but "Soft Wolf Tread" dragged things right back down. It's all a bit sad, I could see country and 90's alt rock going well together, but not this way. This album isnt gritty and visceral, it's poorly-performed and sometimes hard to get through. Surely most people that like Fuzzy were of an impressionable age in 1993. I'd love to get behind the messaging of "America Snoring" if I could get over how on the nose it is, or the shrill, harsh singing. The closing "You Just Have To Be Crazy" is a suggestion for the mental state you need to attain to thoroughly enjoy this one. Unfortunate 1/5 we go next
Woof
By the time you read this, the album might have finally finished but its certain type of blandness will continue to haunt me for a much longer time. I'd heard the name of this band back in the day - I think it was one of those bands that the cool people had heard and if you hadn't, you weren't as cool as them - I am happy that I wasn't one of the cool people. In a different vein, I have a friend I told the 1001 albums project about. They said that they wouldn't be able to handle the indie rock sort of music that they would inevitably have to hear. This album is the sum of every single one of their fears - it ticks all the boxes and as a result it is flavorless. It is no surprise that this band remained only for the cool kids. Update: it still hasn't finished. Now a profound acoustic intro and some moaning and big rock chords. It's not the Doors, or Echo & the Bunnymen or World Party but sounds like what a crap AI would produce if you lazily prompted it to come up with a mash up of those great bands' most bland moments. This is the second album (out of 74) that I couldn't handle finishing.
An entire album's worth of Wonderwall. Absolute horseshit.
Not enough of anything
Dreary
I’m like 30+ albums behind, but I keep revealing albums every day. This isn’t making me want to chip away at that number. Take Soul Asylum but make it even worse somehow! Honestly this sounds like if you took every 90s folk rock act and blended them together into one bland soft rock smoothie.
A ono, opet dosta dosadno, Fuzzy stvar u jednom dijelu mi je dobra. 1/5, 2/10
Awful. Dull. Boring. Unengaging. Snoozefest. Blah.
I personally don’t like minorities
This one was rough. I was open to it at first, but it just got worse and worse until it hit me with Dixie Drug Store, maybe one of the worst songs I've ever heard. I will say that it makes total sense that Michael Stipe loved this album in 1994.
Fuzzy
I couldn't find anything interesting or engaging about this. Obvious, slightly indie-tinged college radio rock.
Oh come on! I’m ready for some really good music.
Wow what a turd of an album. I hated the singers voice, hated the song structures and started wondering how many more songs were on this album somewhere around song #4. Maybe it made more of an impact when it was first released but I’ll be happy if I never have to listen to it again!
If the dad from Gossip Girl was in a real band, I'm pretty sure it would be Grant Lee Buffalo. Maybe two songs I grooved with, but overall really flat. Please take these lyrics far, far away from because they remind me of being held hostage on a date by a mediocre white guy playing a guitar at me. Also, -1000 points for an absolutely trash band name.
Nope
I’m so glad we buried this part of the ‘90s so deep that nobody can really find it. I suppose this was seen as some sort of honest antidote to Nirvana and stuff, but it’s tuneless, joyless, and utterly inauthentic in its faux-authenticness. Plus, his voice is terrible. The rocky parts don’t really rock, and the quiet parts have no soul.
I guess one of the minor fun things about this exercise is when you hear an album and go “why is this guy doing a weird shitty David Bowie impression with his voice the whole time” and then you go read about the artist and he says that’s his main uhhhhh “influence” yeah that tracks Grant
This is the most stereotypical background music. It's just forgettable lite rock
perus jauhannan
boring for me. saw on their wiki they described themselves as “uneasy listening”. yea.
Nope
One of the worst albums I've heard in this project. There's nothing interesting happening lyrically or musically. Whiny and airy vocals and generic folksy songs that are so inoffensive they're almost offensive to the idea that this is an album you should hear before you die (as the project stipulates). Completely skippable and uninteresting
Not for me. Mostly just meh.....
This shit is so plodding and boring. Every song is so fucking slow and whiny. Awful.
Nope.
Michael Stipe would love this album..
Favorite tradk: Wish You Well
I bet moms listening to light rock radio in the 90s loved this. Almost every genre had better examples of this tepid generic crap in '93. How is this on the list? Also any story about someone hanging out with a mysterious person who disappears and it turns out to be a ghost is stupid. It's lazy writing for children.
No. No, thank you. Not for me. Nope.
Overall I was not very impressed. That said while I was listening it got to a really great track and I thought it was picking up. Then I realized that Tidal started a post-album random playlist, that great track was by The Lemonheads. I laughed.
So far this has been the worst record I’ve listened to. Sure - there have been ones I haven’t finished - but on paper this guy should check a lot of my boxes. But holy shit was this awful. Bad music, horrid lyrics, fronted by a dude who sings terribly with an uninteresting voice. I hate listened to this so hard. 0 stars.
Never heard before, no need to hear again
Interesting, but bad. 1/5
Uninteresting alternative country that is okay for background music. Overall: 1/10
I'll pass.
Started generic, became unbearable
Sleepy America dad rock that Bruce did better
Boring Americana
I really didn’t like this album. It was boring, uninspired, and I don’t understand how anyone could like, listening to this man’s voice.
Nope.
I was excited to listen to this album up until the singer start singing
Grim
1.5
Pretty bland. I like Americana but this style of 90s alt-rock just isn't appealing, or at least Buffalo's implementation of it feels entirely hollow. Everything tries to have an edge but it is marred by pristine production and showy instrumentation. Nothing on this album stuck with me other than the grating guitar tone.
Not for me. I stopped after 5 songs.
bad
Never heard of this band/album before and nothing about it feels memorable or distinctive
nah
I guess this was alt-country, but it was plodding both emotionally and in tempo. Glad I missed it back then.
Fuzzy is the debut album from the rock band Grant Lee Buffalo. The songs are mostly Americana rock, which makes it surprising that this album only charted in the UK. I believe this album is forgettable and I'm not sure why it's on this list of "greatest 1001" albums.
Awful
I don't get why this is here
Noooooope
Not a fan
Just boring
