As a big fan of many of her contemporaries and successors, I’ve always wanted to like Fiona Apple but have never really been able to get into her music. Listening to this all in one go I see the appeal and artistry but it still just doesn’t do anything for me, like, on a personal level.

My parents played a LOT of Nanci Griffith during my childhood (and Allison Krauss, Iris DeMent, etc) so I have a huge soft spot for that whole scene. Really enjoyed this though as far as NG albums go I prefer Other Voices, Other Rooms.

I didn’t hate this but the vibe for me was very “CD my parents bought on sale at barnes & noble in the mid-90s but never played and is still collecting dust in a corner of the cabinet.” 2.5 rounded down.
