Reviews (page 3 of 14)

5 stars cuz it’s The Beatles

Still got it!

This is the good shit

The Beatles origin

I mean, duhhh. Its The Beatles

You're not going to lose with any Beatle record on this list. I know there are going to be some haters here, but not much to be done about that. Each album belongs on here.

Love Love Love

As a life long Beatles nut I know every beat, note and word. In the early 60’s when still at school and dependant on parents to finance record purchases you were lucky to have access to more than 4 or 5 LP’s a year. So the records you had were played endlessly and so became part of who you were. Unlike today where you have access to just about every record ever made, which is good but the downside is that you never get so emotionally connected as you did back in the day. So I began listening today knowing full well that I would award it 5 stars. So no need to listen critically but an opportunity to listen again from start to finish and try to capture again those memories of times as a young lad singing along in his bedroom adorned with posters of the Fab Four. At the risk of annoying younger people those times were really golden and I feel so privileged that I lived through that time. This album is a great example of how good music was then. What I didn’t know was that this was just the start. This to Sgt Peppers in 4 years!! 5/5 31/5/25

Many are much too cool for them, but I think it's really interesting and enjoyable to hear where they started from and appreciate how far they travelled musically over the next half-decade.

Brilliant album. Brilliant group. The best rock and roll music ever. I love everything they did. In my mind, no one can top them.

Classic. Very “light” luridly and quite simple musically. But doesn’t everyone like popcorn now and again?

Iconic album cover. As a Beatles fan, I listen to a few of the later albums regularly, but always enjoy coming back to their earlier stuff to see how much they evolved over the decade or so they were making music. An album full of great pop hits.

Beatles really did come onto the scene ripping off black artists

One f the very first bands I remember listening to as a youth. My uncle and Aunty played the RED albums all the time. First records I ever bought with my own money were Beatles. So will always have a special place in my heart.

Hard to say anything bad about this LP. Many classics! And to believe they wrote all of these tunes!? Just incredible.

Most of the tracks were new to me, but I knew a couple. Enjoyed it a lot, will listen again.

Pretty great, had already heard most of these songs before of course. Amaya cool to stumble across new ones

Exploring a band's rise before they become meteoric monoliths is always a fascinating and exciting exercise. For The Beatles, that is four times so. With The Beatles documents the soon-to-be Fab Four iron out kinks and refine techniques all the while continuing to introduce new ideas that would come to rip the rulebook that characterized pop songwriting at that time. From John and Paul's chemistry increasingly bearing fruit to George's first stab at making his voice heard and Ringo being ever reliable on the kit and the occasional song sung by him, With The Beatles is not only the sounds of the pot overboiling but the sounds of a tide turning for good.

I always loved the beatles. They're legendary. With their soft songs, they directly touch the spirit. This album isn't their best. You have to listen Yellow Submarine and Eleanor Rigby or maybe the Taxman.

Bangers! Bangers! Bangers! Love the originals and covers.

Up until Sgt. Pepper’s UK Beatle albums would have 14 tracks, US versions only 12. Then a couple of times the US market would squeeze out another album to make money off of which caught things up (Yesterday and Today, Beatles IV). The US version of this (Meet the Beatles) had the 9 songs written by the group, plus three other hits released in the UK on a single (She Loves You, I Saw Her Standing There, and This Boy — 3 great tracks). The 5 cover versions on this UK release ended up on the US album The Beatles’ Second Album. So arguably Meet the Beatles is a better album than With the Beatles. Still, I love the covers here (especially Roll Over Beethoven), so it’s still a 5.

A landmark album which contains several of their much-loved songs & had a massive societal impact when it was released. And you removed it from The List whilst retaining 4 albums of risible shit from the Beastie Boys & literally dozens of vile rap & hip hop drivel & the same number of identical, formulaic rooooaaaar & 'American rock' garbage. SHAME ON YOU

Yippee

This album was actually not that bad. I’m glad I decided to give them a try.

The Good: We know who we are with… The Bad: What happens if we suffer from entomophobia? The Ugly: Being left without the Beatles… I was NOT looking forward to listening to this album… not because of who they are, but more because the album cover warned me that this could be a little too campy… Boy was I wrong! Again these four freaks from Liverpool prove they are the GOAT, and I really do my best to not like them. There weren’t too many songs on list that looked familiar to me, so you spin the album (stream… sorry) and you realize that you’ve heard almost all of them before… Whether or not it is in movies, or tv shows, or just on the radio… And the tunes are wonderfully short, so even if you aren’t enjoying a tune too much, it is over before you can say “what the fuck am I listening to?”!!! FUCKERS 5*

Dare I say this is my favourite early Beatles record? Beautiful cover of Please Mr. Postman. So many forgotten gems on this one. George’s voice sounds great!

# 431 - 07/03/2025 - It's The Beatles! - Not their best work, but it's pretty damn fine.

Amazing. Another 5 stars, another example of my Beatles-bias.

Fantastic!!!

Easiest 5 star yet

Excellent.

Classic

WELLLL WELL WELL

I was torn between a 4 and a 5 but don't want to incur Mick's wrath! I didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would. Prefer original Beatles tracks to the covers but if you place yourself back in the time, it would have been 5 stars without fail. My favourite early Beatles tracks are in a minor key - love A taste of Honey (a cover not on this album) and Don't Bother Me.

Early Beatles is something unique.

Tonight, tonight is still a fantastic song.

classic. GOATs. iconic

¡¡Me ha puesto muy contenta y tierna!!

I don’t care if it makes me basic or how cheesy any of it might be - this is always welcome on my ears!

имба.

A real treat after the recent string of bad luck in album selection. Every track is a keeper. Although they got better with age it’s still great.

I don't know how they did it. I wasn't even in the mood for a Beatles album. Within 3 seconds of pressing play, I was experiencing the joy of youth and the hope of possibility. It's just so innocent and brilliantly played and performed. Magic. Great cover art.

Zo vrolijk, simpel, en goed. Veel goede nummers, weinig matige, en lekker compact.

classic recording

30 mins of punchy pop fun bliss. Might not have much sophistication for the fans of "real music", just pure enjoyment

Few good songs but the money track was okay. Surprised by the devil in your heart track

This album marks a an interesting moment for The Beatles, but I honestly think it lacks a lot of the trademark that A Hard Days Night has and beyond. It does surprise me that its included, but maybe every Beatles album is I didnt realize Til There Was You isnt a Lennon/McCartney original. Every time I play that song, its a clear standout - lots of interesting choices for chords. I Wanna Be Your Man is a great tune. I know that the All Starr Band has this as a set staple

I started working my way through the Beatles catalogue again separate from the project, a couple of weeks ago. This album is in my bottom of Beatles albums - I prefer Revolver and beyond - but it’s still one from the boys. After listening to almost 150 complete albums over the last few months, slogging through albums by the Beau Brummels, the Verve, Robbie Williams, it’s clear I had totally taken them for granted. They were just always there growing up, kind of synonymous with music, at it’s most atomic level. All of my tastes could be traced in some way back to the Beatles, but it’s always been hard for me to zoom out and see objectively what they did in terms of creating a ton of great albums and developing so much musically in the span of a few years. This album is a bit corny annd cover-heavy and would mean almost nothing to me without the later albums, but it’s delightful as an origin story, and still belongs in my canon for that. Sheriff/Chad probably knows the most Beatles history of anyone I know - looking forward to his take on this

You can just picture The Boys in a smoky pub playing these tunes to a crowd that has no idea what they’re witnessing

An enjoyable listen to a Beatles album of listen unfamiliar tracks except for of course a cover of Smokey Robinson’s “You Really Got a Hold On Me.”

I’ve heard most Beatles albums but I’ve never heard this one. One of my favorites is please please me and to know that this was made right afterwards amazing.

Great album! This album is very much like "Meet The Beatles", the second album released in the US. My earliest memories of listening to music was "Meet The Beatles" spinning on the record player (a piece of furniture really - a massive wooden console with builtin speakers and radio) watching the Capitol rainbow ring on the label spin round and round. The differences between the two releases are few (12 vs 14 songs respectively). I do miss Meet The Beatles' "I Want to Hold Your Hand", "I Saw Her Standing There", and "This Boy" but enjoyed the covers on With The Beatles' "Please Mr. Postman", "Roll Over Beethoven", "You Really Got a Hold on Me", "Devil In Her Heart", and "Money (That's What I Want)".

far from their best.. but any beatles is 5/5

Anything by the Beatles is good by me! ;)

My favourite early Beatles album! So much fun! Yes the 2009 remasters are appealing - we need these redone stat! We know you can do it MAL!

they look creepy as hell in this album cover, but i’m a huge beatles fan. it was nice to revisit

I could listen to this album in any mood. Over and over easy listening.

🌟🩷🩷🩷 I think this is the cutest album that has ever been written. The lyrics, the music! Simple and beautiful 🩷🩷🩷🌟

Amazing album! 1st Beatles album and you know every song!

love em

A stone cold classic sophomore album that avoids the slump and sets the stage of the biggest band of all time.

A masterpiece as always.

This is such satisfying musical comfort food for me. It’s one of those albums I put on when I don’t want to overthink the choice and just want music that makes me happy. It’s joyful, fast-paced and energetic. Of course the world went nuts for The Beatles. They play rock ‘n’ roll with such a light spirit, drawing heavy inspiration from blues and soul but putting their own twist on it (and writing some great songs too). This is a perfect soundtrack for everyday living — laundry, driving, building IKEA furniture, you name it — and you could put it on for a BBQ or a Friday night living room hangout and no one would be mad about it. There’s something magic in this one.

These early 3 Beatles albums are a really strong set of releases over such a short period of time. This one I feel like teases some of their later more developed and more complex sounds, like "Till There Was You" is a wonderful jazzy bossa nova-ish song that is rife with dissonance tensions and releases, and then you have their usual Beatles bops that are impressively catchy and fun. So many of these songs are tied to great memories for me. "All My Loving" is a song that I've sat down with a guitar and sang with my wife hundreds and hundreds of times and it might be our most played song together in all of our years of being together. "Till There Was You" brings me back to college and sitting around with some friends and some drinks and trying to figure out the guitar part by ear. Another solid 5/5. There's standout tracks here, but the whole thing is enjoyable from the first minute to the last.

It’s maybe not their best work but they were so young back then. And the album still has a lot of good songs. Another classic that should be loved by everyone.

I admit that I prefer the covers on this except for All My Loving but this is still great pop.

All bops

Awesome

It Won’t Be Long for you to listen to this album.

damn this is pure joy, and something else…. I felt like i knew all the songs (i probably heard them all before because its the beatles) and that all the songs were my favorite, but its my first time listening to the album. i had to hear it twice, i love short albums :))))))

I will be with The Beatles until I die.

Old school Beatles, including All My Loving and other similar classics. Not my #1 favorite album but really solid and enjoyable.

This is way funkier than the punky Lisence to Ill, and it's amazing. Q-Tip and the Beastie Boys? C'mon, man. Seveal songs on here are great and I like them more than Sabatoge to be honest, like Get It Together, The Update, Do It, and Ricky's Theme. This album shows me how talented this trio was beyond their funny gag-rap that was prevelant all throughout their debut.

It's the Beatles.

Pure gold. The early Beatles before fame and their turning inward, writing songs for themselves instead of for the masses. This is beautiful harmony and simple melodies and pure joy in its simplest form.

Album 601 of 1001 Beatles -With The Beatles (1963) Rating : 5 / 5 Always nice to see a Beatle's offering pop up. 8 originals and 6 covers crammed into 33 minutes. Maybe not my favorite Beatle's album but easily gets the rating. Some say it it elementary in its technicality but that is part of its appeal.

Covers and originals, this is a great album of the early Beatles. I love every song. I don’t think there’s any Beatle album I don’t love even though some are better than others.

Love the early beatles stuff

Timeless classic

soooo underrated. this was better than Rubber soul tbh

Абсолютная классика. Вспоминаю мою любимую цитату: если вам не нравится "With The Beatles", то скорее всего вам не нравятся The Beatles, а уж если вам не нравятся The Beatles, то и говорить с вами не о чем. Лучшая песня: Not A Second Time

How fucking good are the Beatles

So crazy to me that these guys were making absolute boppers in the 60s

was gonna give it a four but god damn it the beatles were the shit from the get

The Beatles second release after a whirlwind first year. This is a major album and one that set the band up for it's meteoric rise. Great Album! Great covers!

Love the Beatles. Their music helped shape me. This album… not their best imo, but still goes 5 stars.

Excellent album.

It Won't Be Long , All I've Got To Do, Till There Was You.

Banger

Some absolute classics on this album, very much enjoyed

Great album

Awwe the Beatles were one of my mom's favorites. They sure were incredible musicians, and dominated the music scene for decades!! Kind of magic honestly. I've probably heard a lot of these songs. The whole album is only 33 min. 14 tracks. I really like the album art/photo. I like the spanish sounding guitar in Til There Was You. You Really Got A Hold On Me...love it! This album is 5 Stars hands down.

I'm sorry but I like it

a piece of musical history

It’s a testament to the Beatles’ genius that even a “lesser” album like this is still this good. A lot of the mop top stuff sounds dated and of an era, but the Beatles were easily the best to ever do it.

An underrated entry in the Beatles catalog. Amazing vocals, catchy guitar riffs, and a clean sound. Maybe not as "deep" as Sgt. Pepper or the White Album, but just as enjoyable.

The Beatles

Finally!!! Did they make anything that wasn’t great?

IMO the most underrated Beatles album. Of course, since its their second album it lacks the sophistication and experimentation of their post-Rubber Soul discography, but it does have a sheer pop gleefulness that I haven't found in any other records by other artists. This is a perfect 60s pop album with a ton of catchy earworms, joyful vocals, and some amazing instrumental breaks where each Beatles shines a bit. One of my favorite Beatles records ever.

I really wasn't familiar with this specific album by name, but damn it's full of their hits. I always knew in HS that the British Invasion bands were my favorites, but I'm seeing now decades later that I just really like them a lot. I find myself feeling 5 star vibes from every album by these guys.

Cmon it’s a 5

Beatlemania kicking off. This second album is just joyful. The first penned George song! Love this like I love all of ‘em!

Seminal!

The Beatles are an American institution. 'Nuff said .

Top album!

1963. Every young Beatles song is great on this, plus a lovely cover of Til There was You.

Beatles are good.

Amazing LP by the Fab Four

10/10. I feel like they fully find themselves in their second album here. The first album was good but this seemed like the start of their run of masterpieces.

Pop Perfection.

I think this one gets overlooked a lot. It's not their first and it's not as start-to-finish pop perfection as A Hard Day's Night, but it's really solid and a perfect follow up to Please Please Me. Their second best early album.

A very early Beatles classic that shows how distinct and new they were at the time.

The first 8 seconds of Please Mister Postman is such a little dopamine hit for me, like 🥁🗣️ wait❗️👬👬 how cute :-)

My least favorite Beatles album :/

First Beatles album drop. Awesome start

STANDOUTS: It Won't Be Long All My Loving Till There Was You Please Mister Postman Roll Over Beethoven Hold Me Tight OVERALL: 4.5/5; FINALLY an album I could see myself returning to.

Easy 5.

What can I say?

Early Beatles is best Beatles.

Always a fun listen. The Beatles hadn't quite developed their compositional chops, but these older songs still have all the joy and energy of that time in their career arc.

Still sounds a fresh and new as my first listen 58 years ago. Even the covers are new and alive.

5 stars obviously. Most of the covers they do are on here.

It's the Beatles. 5 stars

Perfectly delightful musically and lyrically. Changed my life. Changed the world

Fantastic album from a much more innocent time. There isn’t a song on this album that I would skip. The covers are a treat and the originals are gems.

I was thinking this was not going to be a 5 for me but it ended up really fascinating to hear. Yes there are covers that are maybe not the best version of the song but the playing is on a level that goes beyond a pop band. Some of the rhythm guitar parts are marvelous and will be something I did back into to try to learn from. George’s song is in a place of maturity the rest of the band had not reached. They play with such abandon and skill, the singing is unvarnished yet beautiful. Already setting themselves apart from others.

I don’t just give Beatles albums an auto 5 stars, but everyone I listen to I’m like “yeah that’s a 5 star album” they’re the goats for a reason.

5/5 of course

I remember being around 10 and staying with my Aunt and Uncle. They had a bunch of Beatles albums. I remember playing them and thinking the vocals were outstanding. I think there is a defining line with the Beatles. They directly influenced every band that came after them. Brit pop at it's finest. 5 stars all day every day.

I love the innocence the songs and the youthful exuberance from the lads. The seeds of the Lennon/McCartney songwriting chemistry are apparently

Changed the world as we know it. Always great listening, too. I wonder if they knew when they were making this music profoundly influential they were being.

This was great, several classics on here including “All My Loving,” “Please Mister Postman,” and “I Wanna Be Your Man” among others. I could keep this on repeat.

I wish the rating system had more resolution because, while this isn’t the best Beatles album, it’s still a five because, come on, it’s The Beatles! And plenty of all-time classics here to warrant a five. I listened to the stereo version, which was quite odd since I’ve heard the mono version so much at this point. But it was interesting to hear some of the parts a little more clearly to get kind of a different perspective on the record. It shows what a fantastic band they were and how exciting they were able to make every single tune. Just a classic.

Super stereo left right

Bro, when Don’t Bother Me hits … George changes the game.

Undoubtedly, the greatest band of all time. Their music is timeless, and always in style. The range of different music on this album is incredible.

Perfect album. Showcases their early versatility

A classic

Great Album, easy listening.

It's very interesting to dive this far back into the Beatles catalogue as you can truly see the things that make them special were always there from the start. Just as solid as their later more popular albums, just more in line with the "standards" of the time. Standout Tracks: It Won't Be Long, All My Loving, Till There Was You

The ultimate tunesmiths!

<3. Es un clásico, los Beatles son un clásico por canciones como estás, han pasado a ser parte de la historia y ser leyendas de la música.

I got yelled at multiple times by Angelina for tapping my foot too much, 5!!!

Absolutely brilliant. Such an iconic band. They are beyond legends. Love their early stuff, love their later stuff. Just love them. ❤️

Not their best but still the Beatles.

It took me just over 100 albums to get my first Beatles album. Great early showing by the greatest of all bands still finding their way. A good mix of originals and covers was a smart production move to firmly establish them in the hearts of new fans. Not my favourite Beatles album, but still better than more than half of this list. 5 stars

Classic Beatles

I mean you can just tell how much of a joy they would have been to listen to when they first came out in the 60s and that being so apparent all these years later speaks for itself

Great album

Da gibt es keine Diskussionen. Beginn einer unvergleichlichen Geschichte. Hier spielen sich Liverpooler Jungs für ihre Meisterwerke warm! 5/5

I fully understand the Beatles hype, this album was so good.

Maybe not the best Beatles album but sti find it better than everything else from the period

Un album muy entretenido y con un clima soleado. Hasta con un estilo folk, si bien cierra más rockero. Muy lindo.

Even though it's not their first album, I tried to listen to this as though they haven't been ubiquitous my whole life. Pretty much impossible but it's cool their unmistakable sound was there from the beginning! Really enjoyed it. Did not know until now that Money (That's What I Want) is not an original Beatles song!

Brilliant. Every track a gem.

Listened to this several dozen times now and I absolutely love it.

By far best choice , I loved it with all my heart

With the beatles.

An amazing album from top to bottom, one of my favorites

My 4th least favorite Beatles album is still an EZ 10/10.

This is before peak greatness beatles but still fantastic for its time. Don't bother me and little child are somewhat duds for me, but overall I have to give a 5 to the greatest band of all time.

If Meet The Beatles didn't convince you, their second album did, no?

If we accept that all Beatles albums are 5s (they are), this would probably be a 5.1 on a scale to 5.9. Nonetheless, several great originals (All My Loving), and while it seems insane that the Beatles would release an album with 40% covers, the covers are very solid. Could listen to on loop

Just a fantastic album.

The Beatles are the most influential band in modern, popular music, and it's impossible to overstate their impact. They had an unmatched streak of hit songs, they combined a range of styles in their catchy, memorable songs, they were the first global rock stars, and they showed that a band could be far more than the sum of their very talented individual parts. With the Beatles is the band's second studio album, which includes a few of the early hit songs written by Lennon and McCarthy, like "All My Loving" and "I Wanna Be Your Man." These songs are typical of early Beatles' songs with catchy melodies, and endearing lyrics delivered with polished harmonies. The album also includes covers of rock classics, like "Roll over Beethoven" and "Money (That's all I Want)," showing that early rock and roll were among the influences the Beatles incorporated into their music. This album shows the range and depth of the Beatles' music. Through their career, they evolved considerably from the sound presented in this album. Nonetheless, With the Beatles' demonstrates all of the elements that made them global stars that would inspire decades of musicians.

Classic - balanced really cool w headphones, voices in one ear and music in the other

Was going to rate this a 4 because it’s far from my favorite Beatles album, but then I sang along to every song so I feel like that puts it back up to a 5. Lots of good stuff on here

Favourite song - It won't be long

* So far so good on this album. Surprising to me since I've never been a HUGE Beatles fan. Not to say I don't like some songs but... I guess I just never got the hype for them. They're just alright. That said, four songs in and only the first one was kinda meh to me as of now. * The inspiration from Johnny B. Goode is super obvious in Roll Over Beethoven. Upon some Google-fu, I'm just now learning that Roll Over Beethoven is another song by Chuck Berry. Huh. * I Wanna Be Your Man managed to knock It Won't Be Long from the bottom spot, which I was starting to doubt would happen. Repeating the damn near same lyric for almost 2 minutes is not a winning move in my book. * Devil in Her Heart definitely gave me The Monkees and/or Davy Jones vibes. Very similar tone of voice. I also can't hear "she'll never hurt me, she won't desert me" without instantly thinking of Rick Astley's Never Gonna Give You Up * For the same reason as I Wanna Be Your Man, I'm not placing Money (That's What I want) in the bottom spot. Didn't vibe with the sound, which I at least partially did with the former song, even if the repetitive nature of it became bothersome. * Think these might be the first artist/artists I've judged a little harshly. I'm sure there will be others as I progress on this journey. Granted, I didn't go outta my way to listen to a whole lot of The Beatles before, though I do like some of the stuff I've heard over the years. This album ended up being much more enjoyable than I ever imagined it would be going in, so it'll be joining the currently pretty rare 5 star club. -- Album Rankings -- 1. All My Loving 2. Please Mister Postman 3. All I've Got to Do 4. Roll Over Beethoven 5. Don't Bother Me 6. Hold Me Tight 7. Little Child 8. Till There Was You 9. Not a Second Time 10. Devil in Her Heart 11. You Really Got a Hold on Me 12. It Won't Be Long 13. I Wanna Be Your Man 14. Money (That's What I Want)

Awesome band and music

Мерси Бит, хайп, веселые песенки

A Beatles record is the definition of a gem. Songs like never before or after.

Beatles are always good

Raw sound was awesome

Such an easy and enjoyable album to listen to. I feel I could just play it anytime and lift up my day.

Has some of my favorite early Beatles stuff - It Won't Be Long, All My Loving, and cover of You've Really Got a Hold On Me. Their cover of Roll Over Beethoven is just okay - would rather hear Chuck Berry's any day. But lots of great hits here and some of their best early work.

While American bands like The Kingsmen, The Ventures and The Beach Boys were building heavier and groovier rock, The Beatles opted for a smoother and more pop-inspired sound. For comparison, check out the version of Money on this album versus the version on The Kingsmen album from the same year. 1963 when The Beatles dropped their first two albums was the start of the British Invasion. The Rolling Stones released their first couple singles this year as well. Interestingly, their second single in 1963 was actually a Lennon-McCartney-written song that the Stones managed to record and release before The Beatles did. By 1964, the British scene was ablaze with the heavy hitters we still know and love today, 60 years later -- in addition to The Beatles and The Rollings Stones, The Who, The Kinks and The Animals and The Yardbirds all released recordings in 1964.

What can I say? It’s the Beatles.

Fabulous as a landmark recording. Not the best of the early Beatles but still refreshing for its pure Poppery and execution of the format that it mastered and generated, if not invented.

Listening to this brought me back to my childhood. And damned if I couldn't remember about 90% of the lyrics! You can never go wrong with the Beatles.

No words needed

It’s the Beatles! So one of the best. Great tunes on here, great covers.

Love this album. Definitely a cult classic

Ты под кайфом в первый раз слушал, что ли?

5 stars, but mostly out of respect and knowledge of what would come later as a result of this album becoming the phenomenon that it did

Holy moly

Very good

Fabulous

Good good thing(ps)

The second album released by the Beatles (in the UK). The rockabilly, skiffle, and doo-wop influence is apparent, but what's really surprising is just how much better the early Beatles were compared to their contemporaries. The album is explosive and energy remains high throughout. The melodies are generation defining, and the musicianship is apparent even this early. In particular, George Harrison's lead lines are crisp and though they aren't flashy, they complement the song perfectly. The Beatles have always chords that work as transitions between the more dominant chords which provide a sense of movement and allow for more tonal variety. This musicality (though they were not trained) sets them apart even further than their incredible songwriting did.

Marvellous. A combination of the early signs of utter genius, and some rip roaring covers. God I love them.

I love The Beatles' albums, especially this one. Have emotional connection with Across The Universe the movie. The songs are timeless, lyrics are genius and melodies are just so fun.

classic

I mean... c'mon.

Maybe I am a little basic, but I love this album. It's just so fun to listen to, and you want to sing along to every song. This is the band that defined the music of the next half century. No skips. 5 stars. Favorite song is please mister postman.

Classic old school beatles

Siempre buena excusa para volver a escuchar esto.

Till There Was You <3

I don’t review Beatles albums. They’re The Beatles, what else can be said?

Great album!

Really enjoyed this one. Roll over Beethoven was a surprise. More grit than I was expecting.

Man, these dude could write pop tunes like nobody's business. This era of the beatles the perfect example of the genius of simplicity. the tunes are straight ahead, well written, catchy, and have aged beautifully. I also think we need to revisit the days of pop stars covering contemporary artists. That's just a delight.

this is a foundational album for me. although i love all the beatles' music like my children, i am going to get a little real here. the draw of the beatles is their songwriting and their innovative production - so from that standpoint, this album is one of the lesser beatles albums. it is before they hit their creative stride, and almost half of the album being covers does not really help. the covers are not even bad covers, they're just covers and i don't think anyone really listens to the beatles FOR the covers. but this album is really of it's time, that's just how it was done. that all said, i do still really love this album

My first Beatles album on the list. Not their best but a so-so Beatles album is better than most band's best.

Album #126 and finally a Beatles album! I love the Beatles, but in my opinion this is one that didn't really need to be on the list. All My Loving is the only important song. There are six covers of other artists' songs. However, the album cover itself is pretty iconic. If I was comparing it to other Beatles albums, it would rate lower, but overall it's still a 5/5 for me. I've heard it many times before. Like most Beatles albums, all four members get a chance to sing lead. In fact, my favorite track may be Ringo's only song, I Wanna Be Your Man. I don't dislike any song here, but "It Won't Be Long" and "Not a Second Time" are not favorites. The covers are all good, even when Paul sings "I never sar them winging."

It Won't Be Long , All I've Got To Do, Till There Was You.

Quite nice, light pop. John starts to get the rock out on Money (that's what I want) previewing twist and shout energy. I liked it, it breezed by.

It Won't Be Long , All I've Got To Do, Till There Was You

I’m a massive Beatles fan, not their best album but still 5/5

A classic

I wasn't sure what I was going to think about this one. The project has given us several later albums, and to go back to this fairly simple setup of four guys, guitars, drums, and old rock 'n' roll songs is a bit of a shock. And just two years before Rubber Soul! Turns out I loved this lots. This is what got people to fall in love with the Beatles, and all that admiration is what allowed all their explosive creativity in the next few years. So much fun to listen to, so fun to hear their takes on other rock and Motown standards, all in all this was great. At some point I'm going to have to just listen to their albums in order and marvel at how much happened in eight or so years.

So, I wasn't so sure that I would dig this album from such young Beatles. But I was wrong to even question. I very much did dig it.

I'm familiar with most of these songs individually, but I don't have a lot of listening experience with this as an album. Interesting to hear how close in sound they were to the 1950s, with Revolver and Rubber Soul just a few short years away.

The covers are great, the original tunes catchy and it sounds like the band is having a lot of fun. I think these kids are going places!

The Beatles are the best. This record is great. There isn't much to say about it that hasn't been said a million times.

I've never been the biggest fan of the early Beatles I'm more of a late Beatles gal, but these really are bangers.

I mean. It's the Beatles. Rick Rubin recently said in an interview with Barry Weiss that the Beatles are proof that god exists. I think he might be right.

El primer gran álbum de The Beatles. Una colección de performances impresionantes, buenos covers, y algunas de las canciones originales más icónicas de la historia como "All My Loving", "All I've Got to Do" y "Won't be long". Un indispensable en la alacena de cualquier melómano, compositor o artista.

It pains me a little not to give 5 stars to a Beatles album. As someone who listens to these albums all the time and loves all their songs, it almost feels like a form of self harm. But it's okay to admit that the earlier Beatles albums were more of a work in progress. Graded on the curve of their own catalog, With the Beatles falls somewhere around a low 4. Graded on the curve of other albums that came out in 1963, it's an easy 5. Look it up. You could make a case for The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan, but the only pop album from '63 even in the ballpark of this one is another Beatles album. Not quite half the songs on this album are covers by other artists. They're generally excellent, if not entirely show stopping. But the band pretty well owns their version of "Money," which is a solidly entertaining rocker. Even their cover of "You Really Got a Hold on Me," which is no match for the Miracles, is a dreamy delight to hear. As for the original Beatle songs, they are full of exuberance, charm and flashes of brilliance. And every one of the songs on the album is deeply catchy and fun to listen to, with an innate sense of pop songcraft that few artists possess. I find myself enjoying this more on each subsequent listen. Okay, I didn't think I was heading this way when I started this review but I've convinced myself LOL - low 5, without a doubt. Fave Songs (All songs, from most least favorite): All My Loving, Not a Second Time, Don't Bother Me, All I've Got to Do, Money (That's What I Want), You Really Got a Hold on Me, Till There Was You, Devil in Her Heart, I Wanna Be Your Man, It Won't Be Long, Hold Me Tight, Please Mr. Postman, Roll Over Beethoven, Little Child

Great early Beatles album. Good ol classic Brit pop.

It's the Beatles. What else can be said?

It’s the Beatles. This one for sure has some more sleeper hits and is still firmly in their more early rock and roll phase. But it’s still good.

One of the best cover albums

I love The Beatles and it's amazing how even their early straightforward albums were still so good. This album includes some of their early songwriting breakthroughs, like "All My Loving" and "All I've Got to Do", and even George Harrison's first original contribution "Don't Bother Me". It's a fantastic album, but the current version available is a terrible headphone listen. The "stereo" mixing on these albums was literally just "its push the vocals to the right channel, and the instruments to the left". I did find that use the "Spatialize Stereo" feature with my AirPods made it much more listenable. I really hope they do a proper full remix of this album like they've done with Abbey Road, Sgt. Pepper's, and Revolver. I would recommend listening to this on speakers, or find the mono version if possible.

Can we just give all of the proper Beatles releases five stars and call it a day? Yes, the earlier ones had some filler. No, it doesn't matter. The greatest rock band of all time is still underrated.

Great early effort. Much simpler musically than albums to come in a few years that is heavily reliant on covers. Fun to listen to and sing along with.

I need to declare a conflict of interest here. Yes, the listing of EC's Armed Forces being immediately followed up with a Fabs record is the result of my paying thousands in bribes to Dimery and his minions. I thought I was good to go with $100,000 but then he pushed me into a corner threatening a run of Stills/Metallica/Iron Maiden/Pet Shop Boys and Napalm Death if I didn't double the tariff. Ok, so I've compromised my children's future, but it was worth it. 1963 and all that. I recently read a book titled The Beatles 1963 A Year in the life, where the author Daffyd Rees covers what they did every single day of that year. Forgetting for a moment all the unbelievable social phenomena that was occurring, what they achieved musically is jaw dropping. The year starts with playing in front of 20 people in Scotland and ends with the mania verging on going global. They record four ridiculously brilliant singles in Please Please Me, From Me to You, She Loves You and I Want to Hold Your Hand, phew. Even if you are not a fan you have to marvel at their ability to tour literally everyday and somehow find the time to write and record those singles and two albums. With the Beatles comes out in November and it reeks of the year that has just occurred. A strange mishmash of songs they love and played live, a must have McCartney show tune (by way of follow up to A Taste of Honey) and what originals they could construct on the road that had not appeared on the 45's. The covers are hit and miss, Till There Was You a curio, Devil in Her Heart, meh, and then the quite brilliant in Roll Over Beethoven, You've Really Got, Mr Postman and Money. Some of those covers are now definitive versions. Strangely Paul is quiet, only two Macca originals and three lead vocals. But hey, when you drop All My Loving as an album track, you've really got something to write home about. Conversely, George is all over it, his first original composition and two covers for three lead vocal tracks, something he doesn't equal until Revolver. Lennon meanwhile drops four great tracks including the stunning All I've Got To Do, something they never played live sadly, though since it's been covered to death. There are a lot of reasons to listen to this if you've not done so and that track is an absolute standout. Looking around the tail end of 1963 everything in pop music, and so much of the psycho-social place that is British culture has been stood on its head and the Fabs are at the epicentre of the cultural revolution. So yes, Dimery is right, if you've not listened to it, you should take in the magnificence of With the Beatles before you die.

In January 1964 I bought I Want To Hold Your Hand and life was never the same again. By June I had a plastic Beatle wig, a growing collection of their singles and Fabulous magazines with poster-sized pages. On June 6th, I got up at 6.00 a.m., and settled in front of the tv to watch The Beatles arrive at Sydney Airport at 6.30. My memory is that there initially were no studio announcers, just images of the rain pissing down, with this album playing over the top. Why was I hearing Little Child and It Won’t Be Long for the first time? Even though this album was released over 6 months before, on November 22nd - the day Kennedy was shot. Because, at that time, radio ruled, and singles were the thing. Shit. I didn’t even know this record existed. They wrote 8 songs, 6 were covers. Nobody covered Motown better : the trifecta of You Really Got A Hold On Me, Please Mr Postman & Money is outstanding. Look, this is not my favourite Beatles album by any stretch. I’m more likely to play Help! or Rubber Soul these days. But this was the third and last album I’d buy at Chester Hill, where I grew up. Everything about playing it in my room was so exciting. By next Christmas I owned a tape recorder and just taped all my music from radio & tv. It was way cheaper for a budding addict. I would not actually buy another album for 4 years. But I wore this one out.

Andra plattan 1963. Låter väldigt självklart alltihop, till och med låtarna jag inte gillar. Imponerande.

For even a "lesser" Beatles album it is still incredible. 99% of bands would be satisfied to ever write a song as good as Till There Was You, and that isn't even one of the top hits on the album (though it's my personal favourite).

So good!

Never heard of these guys before. This album is great for going thrifting. Would be into listening to more Beatles records on this list (That’s What I Want). Not sure what needs to be said, so this Won’t Be Long. The Beatles just crush out elite songs, which is no surprise to anyone here. But a nice little surprise/reminder was I Wanna Be Your Man, my favourite on the record. Banger. Alright, here’s my thing. If the music makes me feel something, then I give it a good rating. This version of the Beatles isn’t super musically complex, but that Don’t Bother Me bc the songs are just good. All I’ve Got To Do now is give it 5 stars.

Gotta love early Beatles when it sounds like they are just having fun.

The Beatles.

Are you kidding me?

vraie fangirl n'accepte pas que le groupe ait sorti un album 4/5

This has always been a favorite Beatles album for me, and I feel like it gets overshadowed by PPM and AHDN. The performances are excellent throughout, the songwriting is catchy, clever, fun, and inventive; the cover choices are top-notch and varied, the harmonies are thrilling, the arrangements are wonderful, and the recording is pristine. But above all of that, there is just so much energy and joy emanating from this album it's infectious. You simply can't be in a bad mood listening to this. No wonder they captured the hearts of millions around the world. Plus, I think this may have their best opening three tracks.

Finally! Some Beatles. Let's start with this dreamy album cover. Those piercing handsome looks just grab you. And if I'm recalling correctly, the LP was high-gloss. I held that album so close to my face to adore those gazes, I feel like I can still smell it. Magical Mystery Tour was my indoctrination to The Beatles and then I worked back. When I got to early Beatles music I was so goddamned hooked. A real junkie for ANYTHING Beatles related, which was hard to come by in the early 80s in rural South Jersey. The dichotomy between late and early Beatles thrilled teenage me. More to explore, more to learn, more to listen, and so much more to love. When I hear folks say they don't dig early Beatles, it simply does not compute. How does John's voice on All I've Got to Do not move you? All My Loving is a window into Paul's personality, especially that gorgeous 20-year-old version of himself. Longing. I felt my first iteration of "longing" from this song. Longing for what? I didn't know. With age I started to hear beyond the voices and learned to understand things like "oh that super cool jangly guitar"..that's George. That distinctive Rickenbacker...that's John. Those perfect beats...Ringo! On first listen I thought I could skip Till There Was You but no way. How can you bypass that sincere voice? And the bongos (?) congas (?)...I don't know what magic Ringo was making on this song. I adore how they backup each other. When Ringo takes the lead on I Wanna Be Your Man, John and Paul are just perfect in how they take turns backing him up. Every Beatles album should be heard before you die. I'm excited to get all the others served up!

Rating: 9/10

Straight fire.

While the Beatles were still finding their footing with lots of covers, every song is masterfully done and I never get tired of hearing any song on this record. So excited to get a Beatles record.

muito bom, das antiga já

I never considered myself a Beatles fan, and in fact grew up thinking they were vastly overrated. However, upon listening to this album, I realize now that they were way ahead of their time and played an incredible part in shaping modern music. I was shocked when I "remembered" at least half of the songs on this album, despite having never listened to a Beatles album front-to-back. While My Guitar Gently Weeps is my favorite track, but it's impossible to choose which song is the best. I thoroughly enjoyed the guitars, and I think there is something for everyone on this album.

One of my favorites ever

By itself its a good album. Looking at the progression from this to Abbey Road or Sgt Pepper, its even more amazing. It's crazy how much a band could influence and change in just 7 years.

This was the one Beatles album on the list I wasn't positive would get 5 stars at first. Then I listened to it again. And it's an EASY 5 star. Sure they song structure and lyrics are simplistic, especially compared to their other, later, works, but it's early 60s rock distilled into an album. And I need to listen to older Beatles more.

Love me some Beatles. Fave songs off this one: All My Loving Till There Was You Money (That’s What I Want)

no justification necessary. FIVE STARS

So good.

Strictly speaking it's a 4½ but I rounded up.

Ikke det beste av dem. Men synes det er et veldig sjarmerende og søtt album. Litt svak for covre i utgangspunktet så det gjør meg ikke så mye. «Till there was you» er fin, spesielt instrumentene

Two Beatles albums in a row, what are the odds? Another easy five stars since I own and listen to this already.

👏👏👏👏 excelente

I mean, it's the Beatles, it slaps. Such nice progressions and interesting layered vocals over top. I recognize All My Loving, but all the songs are approximately equally good.

Really like the opening. It's not just a random collection of singles & filler. Everything works well together and has a lot of energy.

all my loving to this album

Classic, still works.

Besta plata ársins 1963, ég hallast að því. Gleður mig alltaf, og meira en Please please me, sem er þó líka frábær. Það eru bara I wanna be your man (fínt, en betra með Stones) og Money sem draga hana pínkulítið niður.

Where it all either started or exploded, or was that the previous album? I prefer "Please Please Me" to this one overall, and this one can feel and sound rushed to get more material out immediately after their debut. With The Beatles is mainly remembered now for the iconic album cover, and the cover songs, especially Lennon's lead on "Please Mr. Postman". But it's also like the 7th or 8th best Beatles album. This is just quibbling. We should stand impressed that they were able to put out a follow up album so fast with a great mix of original and cover songs. Plus, it's where the Lennon/McCartney songwriting partnership began. They'd certainly get a lot more interesting on future albums, but they proved here that no one could craft perfect pop songs better than they could. And they could seemingly do so in their sleep. Maybe that's why the boys are half-lit on the album photo.

One of the best albums by one of the greatest bands in pop history

Early Beatles songs are swift and straight to the heart. Another great example of their greatness, if one were to hear Beatles from start to finish “it won’t be long” is an excellent start (and “her majesty” a magnificent finish). It could be 4 starts but god damn is “all my loving” one of the greatest songs ever. I don’t get to hear this album that often because I hate the stereo version that is everywhere on streaming, but I’m a proud owner of a “Beatles in Mono” vinyl box set so this was an excellent excuse to take it out for a spin.

Wonderful

With The Beatles Beatles 5 3.73 Global reviews Back in 1964 when I first heard this album I was only 8 years old but I could feel the excitement of how fresh and different it was from the other stuff on the radio at the time The songs I like the most on this album are It Won't Be Long, All I've Got To Do, All My Loving, Don't Bother Me (by Harrison), Hold Me Tight, and Not A Second Time. I Want to be Your Man and Little Child are OK originals

This is a great album. Defiantly in my top 4 albums by them.

The covers pale in comparison to the originals, but wow, the originals are solid: growth from the previous record and a glimpse at the band's true potential. Hard to give this a 5 star rating as I feel there are too many covers and it's not nearly as good as records to come. But this record is better than many other 5 star records on the 1001 list, so...

the beatles 👍 no particular song jumped out as amazing but the whole album was just fun to listen to

Everything from the Beatles is good…

Classic. Tunes that never get old!

Had already listened many times. Fantastic album

Belter

FUCK this is good. No wonder they took the world by storm. It's just one banger after the next. Of course, their later stuff is more sophisticated but this has a lightness, energy, and magic that doesn't come around every day.

Nicer than I remember. Love the the instrumental details. Can understand why they were so great.

far from the best Beatles album and its pop sound wasn’t anything new for 1963 but still I’m a huge sucker for this goofy, snazzy music overall, I think a 9/10 would be fair considering just how gosh darn enjoyable it is tho obviously everything pre-revolver is pretty much just generic pop music

All due respect to Paul McCartney's recent comment that The Rolling Stones are basically a blues cover band, this sophomore album from the Fab Four that has nearly half of its fourteen tracks as covers is great. While not a fan of their earlier works, The Beatles tapped into a vein that changed the direction of pop music and this disc is evidence.

Good album. Kinda old time, but pretty good stuff. Particularly the covers.

Not the best Beatles album, but how am I not gonna give a Beatles album a 5?? Lots of versatility on this record, from sweet, intimate tracks like Till There Was You to big upbeat rockabilly tunes like Roll Over Beethoven FAV TRACKS: All My Loving, Till There Was You, Please Mr. Postman, Roll Over Beethoven, You Really Got A Hold On Me LEAST FAV TRACKS: Little Child, Money (That’s What I Want)

Nice little album, definitely not as good as Rubber Soul and onwards but still a fun listen

I'm not really a fan of the beatles but because of my dad that loves to listen to "the beatles" i started to listen to their songs when i was young and it's so cool but sadly after that i haven't listen to their songs again because of the other artists that actually have a good music too and now when im listening to this album again ugh the nostalgiaaaaa

In their second album, we can see the gears turning and the ‘pop’ easing up!

I love the Beatles so much. This is by far the most forgettable album of their career, it has the most duds by far and way too many covers, but the band is so unbelievably talented that it still stands out as some of the best music created in the early 60's. All My Loving is the obvious highlight here, but honorable mention to one of my favorite Ringo vocals in I Wanna Be Your Man. Great start, but the best is yet to come.

need to re listen. i liked it.
