First lady! Queen of Jazz jne. Kyseinen EsG songbook taas on osa taas kahdeksanosaista "The Complete Ella Fitzgerald Song Books" -sarjaa jota tehtiin putkeen joku vähän alle kymmenen vuotta.

Was unclear what to actual listen to, as the title, wikipedia and cover are all different.

11/19/2021 Today's Album: "The Gershwin Songbook" by Ella Fitzgerald - This album must have been revolutionary at the time, given the bright brass band instrumentation in the background and that it was released before even the 1960s. However, this album ends up sounding really dated to me. There really isn't anything in here that you wouldn't find in some broadway musical and the more I listen, the more it sounds like this album inspired so much of musical music today. It literally sounds like the most boring musical I've ever heard because of that reason and although that is by no fault of the album, the fact that this sound has been polished and perfected to the point it has on Broadway, it makes it very hard to listen to this and not have my ears glaze over. The best moments on this album are the parts that sound most like that Ray Charles album we heard earlier. This album has merit, but it absolutely is not my thing. Score: 4/10 sounds nice but not my thing Highlights: But Not For Me, 'S Wonderful

honestly i was falling asleep while listening to this. it was just really calming but boring. i understand she is very influential but just not my style!

Vandaag een "greatest hits" album. Heel goede jazz zangeres. Doet me denken aan films uit de jaren '60 of zo. Helaas is de muziek veel te langdradig en slaapverwekkend. Ik kan hier op een vrijdagochtend echt niet naar luisteren. **

Nice pads and vocal, but i do not like this type of music. It's cool listen something different but I don't play it again

too long bro

compilation smh

Good listen, lens into another era.

Easy listening, background music. Inoffensive

just not my type of music but obviously a great voice

-Very aged Jazz, Mellow -Horns and groovy mellow hihats -Old Timey Theatrical, Slow -Nothing memorable for me

Bij dit album precies constant het gevoel dat ik naar een disneyfilm uit de jaren 40 aan het kijken ben. Jammer genoeg is er geen beeld en sorry maar twaalf keer na elkaar bambi bekijken is ook niet meer tof.

Don’t mind a bit of Ella. Usually around Christmas time when I’m feeling nostalgic for a time I never actually knew (like some sort of festive Brexiteer). Don’t love Gershwin so much though so this only gets two stars from me.

Snooze fest

Cheesy

Nice background music, but won’t be featuring in my regular rotation

Amazing discography. This woman recorded sun up to sun down for a long time.

Ella Fitzgerald has an amazing voice. I think I would have enjoyed another album of hers more as I didnt enjoy the Gerschwin songs.

I love her voice. I don't love the songs. They all sound very old timey/broadway type showtunes. Ella is much better than this album ever lets her be.

“The First Lady of Song”, vild vokal, 40’-50’er vibe, jazz

Das ist kein Album sondern Fitzgeralds halbe Diskografie.. von allen Künstlern kriegt sie eine 3 Stunden compilation?

i just couldn’t get through this…….. 3 hours???? i spent two days trying to get through this and it felt like i didn’t even make a dent regardless of how beautiful her voice is

Ella Fitzgerald Sings the George and Ira Gershwin Songbook... immediately starts out with two instrumental tracks. I was never going to like this. Don't like this style of music at all. Will not deny the talent, but there was no way I was going to make it through this whole thing. Also, I gather that compilations like this were generally not put into this project, otherwise we'd probably be listening to nothing but greatest hits albums. So why was this one allowed in? 1 star review less for the talent, and more for the fact that it probably shouldn't be in here in the first place.

Disc 1 Track 2 & Track 4. Enough said

3+ hours is simply unlistenable for a challenge like this. this isn't a cohesive album; it’s a massive box set and a luxury museum piece that completely destroys the concept of a regular record. on top of that, I couldn't care less about the Roaring '20s and early American pop culture

I listened to the abridged "best of" album. Ella's voice is beautiful, no doubt about that. The band can play smooth, simple, big band style jazz. For me the music is not dynamic enough, with a similar tone that runs through each song. There is no challenge, no hidden layers in these tunes. Ponderous.

Not listenin' to allat

jazz ew pls no. album cover is beautiful tho

Don't like jazz singing

Uansett hvilken tilnærming man velger, taper samlingen.

Look.... Ella sings beautifully... But this compilation album is totally cheating in regards to a 1001 list you "must" listen to. Down rating simply out of the sheer length of what this is.

Not my cup of tea, but at least it's several hours long... Fortunately, I was able to get the "expanded" edition, which has a whole additional volume featuring sliiiightly different variations of the same f'n song back-to-back-to-back. It's great... But I listened, so who's really the fool?

Listened to probably the first 3 songs and then started skipping through them. It's quite impressive that, despite all the songs that hadn't been written yet in the 50s, these guys managed to make the same one 59 times.

not doing a 3 hour album FFS

Long and very repetitive, it’s not like it was inherently terrible, but it was just boring

I'm sorry. I don't have the time to listen to an over 3-hour album.

59 song is insane

Not for me.

2/10 Of course I get the longest album of the entire project on an insanely busy day. Listen, Ella Fitzgerald is an amazing singer and the songs are, generally speaking, mediocre to good. But I think similarly about this album as I do about all the live albums on this list - especially the earliest ones: this should not be on this list. This album is simply not comparable to the vast majority of the albums on this list. This is a compilation. It is not an album. Being over 3 hours long is another big ding against it - no album needs to be this long (and it is because, of course, it is not an album). The songs get incredibly repetitive and dull after a while, and as a result I started to treat it like background music. There's definitely a good album somewhere in there, but you need to omit a good 90% of the songs to get there. Objectively speaking, this album deserves a 2; but I'm writing this as I'm finishing up Disc 5 (of 6), about 3 hours in, and I can't be objective anymore. This is PAINFUL. Sorry, Ella, but I just can't give you a 2. Or higher.

Wayyy too long, and not even good music

I love Ella Fitzgerald, I do...but this is very tedious, samey, long ass compilation, and I feel it doesn't even have the best versions of songs I like from her.

Nah, I hated it, I'm sorry, I know Ella is a legend but the first tracks where she doesn't sing put me to sleep, then she picks up and it's cool but idk, the music didn't make it for me.

This album wasn’t for me. I don’t find myself gravitating toward this genre (jazz/vocal jazz). I tend to enjoy more catchy and memorable instrumentals or meaningful lyrics that I can relate to. While listening, I found myself feeling bored and even skipping some tracks, which is unusual for me since I’m pretty open-minded when it comes to discovering new music. However, I did enjoy the song “Things Are Looking Good for Me.” Overall, I’d rate the album a 3.5/10.

i aint listening to this shit

- Multiple names connected to George and Ira Estates signed that pro-Zionism letter from Hollywood (and explicitly put their connections to G&I on the letter) . I'm going to extrapolate that George and Ira were also Zios. No thank you. - These songs are so fakely sickly sweet, and listening to hours of musical music without the musical is not pleasant to me. - The only thing I enjoyed is Ella's voice, but it's still too much of it. - It mostly made me feel bad that she had to learn all these boring, patriarchal songs. I just got to the part where she compares being in love to Columbus finding a new world (cough, colonizers). Gross. - Didn't finish.

Sorry this is too much for me

Not my jams

Too long

yeah I ain't listening to allat

grandma slop

First listen

This is cheating, there's four albums in this one. I like what I've heard **so far**, but DNF due to time. Edit: The more I think about it, the more this listing feels like bullshit. 1 star.

Oddio ti prego, ascoltarlo tutto la morte

?/10 - скип, т.к. какие нахуй 3ч?

In the context of music history this album fascinates me but I can’t make it through 3.5 hours of jazz tunes. The gap between this and Wish You Were Here less than 20 years later is bonkers.

158/1001 Ella Fitzgerald - The Gershwin Songbook Heard before? ❎ Revisit? ❎ I managed the first disc and I'm pretty sure there's not going to be much deviation on the rest of the other discs. It was fine, just not my thing at all. Obviously minus a lot of stars for the audacity of a 3 and a half hour long album.

I love Ella Fitzgerald but this simply is not an album.

Ooof...that was a chore. Took me 6 drives to work to get thru this one. Ella got a nice, classic singing voice. Sounds like she could come out of any early Disney movie. I honestly thought she was a white woman though. She doesn't have the pipes like some of her black counterparts. Maybe it's just the genre, she could probably belt out some soul. Thinking this was selected from her works purely for the shear mass. 6 in one is overkill but you are getting a lot. 1.12 stars for Fitz.

I wasn't looking forward to running through 60 songs over 3 hours of outdated vocal jazz for good reason. I figured the best way to approach this was to throw this on during a daytime stroll through the park with the daughters. This was probably the best setting possible as it was a gorgeous sunny day with a light breeze with one cutie pie riding her bike and the other in the stroller observing the pedestrian and dog passerbys. For the first half hour or so it was a pretty pleasant experience. There were a couple of tunes that I recognized from random pop culture references (notably Let's Call The Whole Thing Off). The old-school whimsical show tunes actually made it feel like a slice of an outdated classic movie scene at times. Despite this, the effect could only last so long. Ella's singing is fine and the musical accompaniment isn't bad, but the whole collection is excessive for a list like this. You quickly understand what the Gershwin songbook has to offer and unfortunately have to suffer through another couple hours. For every good song there are 10 more that sound just like it. It's not that the music is bad, it just really only works in a certain place and it more than overstays its welcome. Even after an extended nearly 2-hour walk I still had quite a bit left to get through. I opted to finish it up during some morning busy work at the office which I guess wasn't the worst. The music isn't overly distracting and is light enough to keep the mood positive while churning out emails or whatever. This entry was a bit of a struggle to get through, mostly due to the playtime as opposed to the content. I understand that the Gershwin songbook is a heralded collection of jazz showtunes so I appreciate that it gave me a reason to intake a piece of musical history. The fact that any of these songs are relevant nearly 100 years later is an accomplishment in itself so I understand why it deserves recognition and how Ella's recordings fit into that. However, I really hope additional entries from Ella Fitzgerald's Great American Songbook aren't included in this. I got enough Ella in this 3+ hour collection that I plan to file her away for good. If you could slice this into a smaller format it would garner a couple more stars but due to the excessive length I have to give it low marks. .84 stars

The Wall Extra large blind Ah, so this is the 1001 albums they were talking about! Didn't think I would have to listen to them all at once, but here we are Whenever I tried to focus on what's playing I got so immensely bored I couldn't continue listening. In the end I just had it playing in the background while I played Against the Storm. I'm really sorry for all the people in 1959, as they didn't have this option

I tapped out slightly past disc 1 of 6. I can't with that in mind give it anymore than a single star. This album was definitely a choice for this kind of list.

First of all, it should be illegal to create a 3 hour album with 6 discs. It should then be more illegal to include this type of album on this list to force everyone to listen to it. Quite literally the definition of “Throw enough wet paper balls see what sticks”. Everyone should QA their songs and just weed out the ones that don’t fit in a collection of songs or just aren’t as well put together. Live update, currently about to finish Disc 3 which is only HALF WAY THROUGH. I don’t know if I’m going to make it… the urge to listen to something else is very strong. All these songs are foot tappers, but they’re all not necessary for 1 album. Half way through Disc 4 and I gotta tap out. I need to listen to something else. Kudos to anyone who made it all the way through. But because I couldn’t, it gets a 1.

Grating experience, not just because it’s long. It’s seriously really uneven and some songs are good but some are straight up dogshit, it doesn’t matter how good a singer she is. The slow songs are generally stronger. ‘I’ve Got A Crush On You’ is one of my fav Gershwin compositions. I stopped listening early, and I’m going to stop complaining even though I have more to say, because unlike this album I value your time.

I want to give you my perspective of this album. Imagine a food that you like. Not your favorite food or even your second favorite food, but like something you think is just okay. Now imagine having to eat it every day for a month. Imagine going through the motions of experiencing the same thing over and over again, wondering how far you are from the end. Imagine the sensation of that food getting stale really fast until it just feels the same way everyday. That’s the Gershwin songbook. I’m not gonna sugarcoat this. I don’t give a fuck how iconic this is or was. I don’t care what you think about Ella Fitzgerald’s singing (I think she’s fine, but like I’m not going crazy about her). I don’t even give that much of a fuck about the Gershwins. You don’t put a fucking box set on here. That’s ludicrous and a little pretentious. Like what do you want me to say? Every song sounds the fucking same. It’s just big band and ballad hell. And believe it or not, I got lucky because I got this on a Friday. Since I don’t do weekend albums, I had three days to do this. And I still had to squeeze it because I just couldn’t give a fuck about this. I don’t know if this is blasphemy. I don’t know if this it going to put me in music hell or something. But if I sit through a three hour box set and get nothing from it, then I can’t justify giving this any good score. Favorite track: I Got Rhythm (I know there’s a joke somewhere that I like this because it’s the last song, but it’s actually the only one I knew prior) Other hits: You think I’m combing this shit again for songs that I’m never gonna listen to again?

Not for me

I can appreciate Ella Fitzgerald but I can’t appreciate jazz especially when it spans across multiple disks. Got 5 songs in and peaced out

Pas fou

Honestly not my thing

Nice voice but don’t have the interest to listen to the WHOLE thing.

I’m sorry Ella I know ur a legend but 3 hours and a 4 disc album is insane. I wish they would’ve chosen a more reasonable length and something a bit more curated

I kinda got it after the first 12 songs

I listened to this while doing extremely mundane work and essentially never noticed it. I’m giving it one star because it’s crazy that you had 6 discs to make me notice something I really liked and never did. I’m giving it a second star because it had 6 discs and never annoyed me enough to notice it either. I’m taking the second star away again because putting a 6 disc set on a list of albums to experience is fucking preposterous.

Thoughts, as I spilt up this album into 2 days (disc 1 on the 1st day and disc 2-3 on the 2nd day, I couldn't care less about the outtakes of disc 4) Day 1 -Those first instrumental songs on the first disc are awful, remind me of the cheesiness of the Moody Blues Orchestration at the start of "Days of Future Passed" - By song 11, this is growing pretty old, glad that I stopped after disc 1 Day 2 - To start It's nice and bright for the holiday weekend - This copy and repeat lyrical style and classic disney orchestration is starting to get annoying by song 15 of disc 2 - On side 3 "Isn't It a Pity" is George Harrison's classic of the same title influenced from this song, also the instrumental section of "Love Walked In" sounds to me like the same George Harrison song Finished although it's listenable (if you have it in the background), the fact that someone thought a 4 hour album full of the same cheesy lyrics and chippy disney like orchestration should be on this list, means 1 star -

I did not use a private spotify session for this one, I should have. I only made it through disc two, there was a lot of anger from me when I had to listen to "Rhumba" get rhymed with "Number", "Slumber" and "Dumber". FU GERSHWINS!

Wow, that was a slog. The only reason this is getting a point is because you can’t fault Ella’s voice.

I tried. I got half-way through - but if I finish I'm going to hate Ella Fitzgerald AND Gershwin. Including this album is probably the biggest disservice in the whole of these albums, because this isn't really a complete work - it's just a massive marketing ploy and a marathon of songs that cannot be possibly enjoyed as a whole. Which defeats the purpose of an album - a good one is a thematic book that keeps you interest and doesn't tire you. It shouldn't be a chore to listen to and it should be digestable enough to listen to in one sitting without zoning out. This is not that - I seriously doubt ANYONE has sat through this without gritting their teeth and gave it an complete ACTIVE listen. Putting in the background while working or doing chores doesn't count if you're zoning in and out. No, as the entire set of songs, over 4-6 discs - it's the most indulgent of records on this list and as much as the parties involved are musical gods in their own right, and Ella Fitzgerald deserves all the credit of her whole career - this is simply a jazz version of yacht rock for the privileged and culturally-poor.

she's got a great voice but i found it boring and wayyyy to long

Personally not for me, great voice though

I'm incapable of appreciating this kind of music. Ella has a decent enough voice but the combination of her voice and how much Gershwin's compositions remind me of classic Disney movies takes me out of the listening experience 100% of the time. The whiplash of the track order also was difficult to get through. One song she's the luckiest girl in the world because she's in love, the very next song she's singing about her woe's. I got through 9 tracks before I had to stop it. I couldn't even have it on as background music while house cleaning it was so distracting in an unpleasant way.

Didn’t enjoy this. Very samey and boring. 6 volumes

I don't wanna hear it. Slow jazz. 1/5

3 hours?!?!

Boringest album ever why is it 3 hours. It took me 4 months to complete this and that’s 3 hours I’m never getting back. If it was 30min to an hour it would be an actually decent project but it’s just the same song repeated 50 times. I don’t rly know what to say other then it’s the same song for 3 hours. 3.6/10 1.6/5

A three hour compilation does not belong on this list. Love a bit of Ella Fitzgerald but this takes the micky

honestly there were a lot of good songs here and the singing is great but this is THREE HOURS LONG

"How can I be civil when hearing such drivel?", wrote Gershwin. How apt. How awful most of this is. "Let's Call the Whole Thing Off" is at least 4 minutes too long. It is mildly entertaining with the first "gag". It gets less funny with every - more laboured - repetition. If it hadn't ended in a nice rag (which would have been improved by omission of the vocal), I'd give this zero if I could. What a waste of a great voice.

So long.

It’s Ella, it’s Gershwin, it’s terrible!

Mood music

Ella Fitzgerald is an amazing performer and one of the best interperators of song George and Ira Gershwin are amazing writers and one of the best pop song writers ever. But Three. Fucking. Hours. Reviewing this in an album format, marks this an inexcusably bloated mess, more akin to torture than enterntainment. Obviously, this is meant to just throw a disc on here and there, not listen to in 1 sitting. But I gotta review this as the latter because that's what I did. It's torture. There's no variety, it's all vocal jazz pop. It starts to wear on you by the 45 minute to an hour mark. Then you remember you have over TWO HOURS left. You go insane. You try gaslighting yourself into thinking this really isn't that long. That the spotify link just goes to a super deluxe edition. But no, it's really that long. It's literally the entire Gershwin songbook. I can't take it for that long. I don't care how well it's made and how good Ella is, I never want to sit through this entire thing again. It's far too much Just for god's sake just have a best of and make it 45 minutes to an hour TOPS, because there are some gems on discs 4 and 5 like "Slap That Bass" and "Fascinating Rhythm". Sorry to give this a 1, but there's no other choice. It's too fucking long

Listened about 20 minutes, not listening to the rest of the 3 hours

Couldn’t listen to it

1 - Its not even that bad, I'm just annoyed I had to listen to 3 hours of it...

More than three hours of Ella Fitzgerald singing Gershwin! Frankly this isn't an album that I need to listen to, it's far too long. She's a great singer, but I I don't care hugely for these songs or the musical style. And did I mention this album is well over three hours long? This isn't really an album so much as a whole pile of Gershwin songs.

I listened to the first song off this and really couldn't be fucked to listen to 3 and a bit hours of it. I’m sure it’s very nice and had a sort of festive vibe to it, but no album has any right to be that long. Unless it’s prog metal, then it’s fine.

Please, don't!

Ella Fitzgerald is amazing, Gershwin is one of my top composers. This is not an album, it’s a songbook box set, I’m not listening to all of this.

I like Ella Fitzgerald, but for most of her songs, I would rather it be Billie holiday singing. That said, if you took the 8 best songs off of this and made that into an album, I would have ranked it higher. Whether it’s because of the sheer length or consistency, I don’t feel as if there are any standout songs. I don’t find her as cringeworthy as the Frank Sinatra album in terms of lyrics, but they were comparable. I liked it to begin with, but it was a chore to finish. With how I have been grading the list, I can’t give it more than a star - it shouldn’t be on the list. Pick an album that isn’t 3 hours with better songs and get a good taste of Ella.

Could not go further than a few seconds for a few songs

Not into it unfortunately

not really my thing tbh, nice voice tho

I know there are people who really enjoy this music, but I am certainly not one of them. 1 star or F for me.

First listen Saved 8/59 Top track: I Got Rhythm

The fifties is already a decade I don’t enjoy very much, making a three hour long album of it did not make me like it more

Not for me

Couldn't take it. Korny old tunes

Who ever thought that we needed to listen to a 6 part box set of Gershwin numbers? No thanks.

Love me some Ella but just not a fan of the Gershins.

Not created to be an album Unlistenable in digital, must be incredible in live at a pub

6 albums! Nope. It is not in the spirit of this exercise. I refuse to listen. 3 hours and 15 minutes = 1.

Sorry, but I don't want to spend 3hrs 15mins listening to show tunes, even if they are sung by Ella. Moving on with my life.

You got me fucked up if you think im gonna listen to 3.5 hours of ella fitzgerald. Great voice but shittt this sounds too old and dry for me.

grande pra caralho, n vou ouvir n

Jeez the 3+ hours was tough. This won't be revisited by me again.

Gershwin songs have always been too gentle and catchy - just not to offend anyone. And by 2024 at the latest, they will have fallen out of time!

Not my cuppa tea. Ella has a lovely voice though.

Too long

I think this was meant to go along with a play or some type of screenwrite? I dunno I found it really really hard to get through this album. It ground my gears, just didn’t seem like something anyone would listen to outside of its original intent

With all due respect Ms. Fitzgerald, I'm not listening to 3 hours of your music. I'll take the 12 track best of. Very glad I didn't go for the full cut because I was bored with the short one. This is not album music, and more than 1 or 2 tracks of this stuff wears on me quick. I imagine most albums pre-65 will have me feeling this way.

Not my style 2/10

I can appreciate the songwriting and quality of voice but the album turns my stomach, reminding me of old, dead people dark rooms and horrible wallpaper.

rubbish not my thing at all

Long. Could be very corny.

I ain't reading all that. I'm happy for u tho. Or sorry that happened. I don't care how good Ella's voice is, this kind of music is like spending eternity in a purgatory modeled as an infinite department store.

I’m sorry, but my attention span no longer lasts 3h59

Singing is fine, but I've never been one to groove to some 50's swing. Also way too long.

Not for me

Disc 1 liked it. Wonderful Voice! slow Jams to dance and to listen during Winter Sundays. Would be a 4/5 Disc 2 Love the slower Songs more than the more energetic ones. Good Songs and lesser liked Songs so a 3/5 Disc 3 Got some certain Songs that feels more like Movie Scores. Its enjoyable but i mean it dont feel much new or different. would give it also an 3/5 Disc 4 Started with some bit noisey trumpets but we still goin in. Maybe i recognize it now more but i think i hear more instruments than before (more present than before) Disc 5 Now again more slower. Glad that im almost through it. Its still wonderful. 3.5/5 Disc 6 (Nelson Riddle) only instruments. Its wonderful played but after 3 hours its just draining... 2/5 Overall (3 Stars) Gonna give 1 cuz of Length and not really being an Album! Ellas Voice is timeless and its a good comp to just play during xmas or the winter. While cooking or danncing w/my significant other but as an Album its too long and not really an album to me. As a music listener i dont really like Compilationsbecause mostly they dont have any structure!

OK, the songs are classics, and the singer is legendary, but fuck my hat is this album boring. The nature of this beast (and beast it is - three-plus hours for the full recording) is that there is very little brand new, and for me this just dragged. And dragged. And dragged. And dragged - and I only listened to the best of version of this.

don’t like it

Gershwin bores me (big band/orchestra). 1/5

dooooooon't be a naughty baby. The moment I loaded this album up, I knew I was gonna put it off to the last minute, and I did (for good reason). I did "the very best of..." version of this album on spotify, and I think if I were to do the full 3hr track, I might become braindead. I really didn't think it was actually all that bad, it was very calming, and I found myself smiling at the first track and relating to the lyrics in a strange, yet direct way. That being said, I enjoyed a very little portion of the album, and I'm so bored that I decided to write this review to express my feelings about this track. Whatever, it was better than the Billie Holiday record I just had.

All in all, I'm gonna leave this one to the Broadway folks. Real snoozfest of a genre.

if you need to put a 3 hour ella fitzgerald compilation into your book, maybe it should have just been 1000 albums to hear before you die. I'm not fucking listening to this

Walt Disney music, innit.

🧟‍♂️🧟‍♂️🧟‍♂️🧟‍♂️🧟‍♂️🧟‍♂️🧟‍♂️🧟‍♂️🧟‍♂️🧟‍♂️🧟‍♂️🧟‍♂️🧟‍♂️🧟‍♂️🧟‍♂️🧟‍♂️🧟‍♂️🧟‍♂️🧟‍♂️🧟‍♂️🧟‍♂️🧟‍♂️🧟‍♂️🧟‍♂️🧟‍♂️

Dårlig med coveralbum

it's just 59 songs by Ella Fitzgerald. not an album/5

Bored after a bit

I ain’t listening to a 3+ hour long album

Lmao shout out musical from sophomore year of high school 1 Gershwin is already not one of my favorite musical composers. I don’t think much of his stuff has aged particularly well. I do, however, like everything I’ve heard from Ella Fitzgerald (which is pretty much just from Fallout 3). I love Ella’s voice and backing orchestra but this is still so damn boring. I’m happy I didn’t listen to the 3.5 hour long version holy shit. I personally think that’s on Gershwin, though. All the outdated talk of “waiting around for the man I love” and shit like that was a lot at times. I wish the music saved it more here but sadly there were only very brief moments that I found interesting. I know there’s stuff I like out there so I’m not going to give up Ella so soon, but this one is not for me. Favorites: I Got Rhythm

not exactly my cup of tea.

bad, made me angry, lame.

no jazz

Compilation albums should not be included in the list I think ..but I guess it is a bit of a grey area (thinking of for example "Singles Going Steady" or "Substance"). I can see that this is quality music but it all just sounds very boring to me.

Nice. But not really my thing..

not for me

great chill music but not for me
