Reviews (page 6 of 14)
Undeniably containing classics, but I would pick their debut album over this. I'm sure it'll grow with me over time - and maybe after a listen to it on my CD - but it just seems a bit pop-y or something. That being said, the title track, Try and Love Again and The Last Resort are great. Try and Love Again is my favourite! 3.5* rounded up (where I gave their debut album 4* outright!)
Great album.
Iconic. Title song a bit overplayed but still a classic. 7/10 fav songs : Victim of Love & Hotel California
Multiple classics...but a few weak ones too.
pretty good. 7.5/10
Decent listen
Ok
Really nice album, the album follows the vibe of hotel California and keeps giving. Made for an enjoyable drive! 8/10.
Surprisingly a lot of big time hits on here. I’ve hear all of them before but never realized they all came off of the same album. Solid lineup can’t go wrong playing them around anyone
Some timeless hits that make it an undeniable classic, there are some indulgent moments that push it to be a bloated orgy
As overplayed as Eagles are, there was plenty on this album I hadn’t heard before that were a nice surprise. My favorite being “Try and love again.” 90% of this album is great for any occasion. Album is a solid 8/10
7/10
I suppose a lot of people would list this on their top 100 albums let alone 1000. Peak Eagles, the album is commercial yet has some biting lyrics and uncomfortable themes. The title track is of course so well known it became a meme before memes were a thing. Life in the Fast lane is a good rocky song. The last Resort comes across as a country song in places, but heavily orchestrated in others. This is one of those albums where the styles can change quite radically from song to song. I like that.
It's good music, it just didn't resonate with me personally so I can't give it 5. But still really good.
10/10
There is two fantastic songs on here Thats it Still 4-star
Hotel California has one of the most famous guitar solos ever and I never get bored listening to it. Life in the Fast Lane is a fun groovy one to listen to as well.
Beautiful album!
Why is every song 5 minutes
My dad used to put this on during roadtrips so everything about it is familiar and it is a good album
I get the criticism of it being a bit bland, but it is a classic for a reason. The culmination of the "California Sound"
Classic
5 in another life
Pre-listening thoughts: generator… stop giving us all these good albums all at once… we are going to be left with slop by album 300 please… Post/during listening thoughts: I actually went roller skating to this album. It was the perfect length and wonderful spring/sunny day atmosphere. Some people say Eagles aren't yacht rock but I would disagree. I think they're almost textbook definition of it. I'm also not really sure why everyone HATES them cause I enjoyed this overall but some of the songs weren't like super memorable. 7.5/10 DID I NEED TO HEAR THIS BEFORE I DIE: nah Fav tracks: Hotel California, New Kid in Town, Life in the Fast Lane, Try and Love Again Least fav tracks: n/a
Not familiar with first track but might be popular some day.
Like the music, but maybe the eagles are bad people idk
Great album, great band. Though it's overplayed. I don't listen very much. I can usually hear the songs on the radio frequently.
Tapera down after the title hit Still nice though 4/5
Great listen, got into my playlist
Can’t go wrong with this classic
Simply based on the historic nature of the album and the staying power of the songs, this album still holds water.
Some of the guitars kick ass, the slow ballads are not my jam. Really 3.5 but the familiarity bias is real.
The Dude fuckin’ hates the Eagles man and I disagree. Hotel California (song) is a classic for good reason. And I think Life In The Fast Lane is my favorite Eagles with its energy straight from the open. Side 1: 5 stars Victim Of Love is the highlight of side 2 while the rest of it wilts in comparison to side 1. Side 2: 3 stars
Exceptional album, a collection of solid rock songs. I will say, I feel like there weren’t too many standouts aside from the title track, but I still feel that the songs are all great.
The title track on here is of course as iconic as they come, for good reason. And there's a couple other very very good songs on here- I debated between 4 and 5 stars on this for a while, and went with 4 because while it has a couple incredible songs the album as a whole doesn't quite carry the same weight.
This is just a great, classic album.
Spending more time with this one will easily bump it up to a 5.
overplayed for a reason
Didn’t listen to this as carefully as I would have liked but cool nonetheless. Hotel California is a good song but I could go without hearing it for a year or two
Another overplayed 80's icon. Still a great record though. "Pretty Maids...." Is one of Dylan's favorite songs. I enjoy some of the mellower songs as much as the hits tbh
4,5/5 ⭐ atemporal demais, eagles não erra nunca, músicas viciantes e gostosas de ouvir
I'll never understand how people can hate on the Eagles. Are they perfect? No. But they're sure close to it. Hotel California just shoots out of the gate with straight heat. Sure we all know the song, yes you've probably heard it too many times. But that doesn't make it a bad track of music. Quite the contrary IMO. Going right into New Kid in Town which I think is so underrated,. Then to life in the fast lane. Like c'mon man. They might a song out of a warm up riff that Joe Walsh used to play. The record definitely drops off a bit after that. But i think the first 3-4 definitely give this record a solid 4. They were cranking out a ton of music at this time and this was the tail end before there was a 3 year break until The long Run(also a little underrated). Will forever love the Eagles and tell everybody to watch the Eagles Doc. It's killer
I hate the title track
It’s a classic. Very nostalgic
really solid album, guess I like the eagles
Some good stuff here! The first half of this album could have been 5 star, loved it. 2nd half was good but seemed to slow down too much for my liking I knew a lot of these songs already - a very enjoyable album 4 ⭐️
yeah this is fire. obviously the first 3 tracks are bangers but I never listen to the rest -- also pretty good. i really liked Victim of Love, haven't heard it as often.
Some of the best
3.5/5 Hotel California (the song) is an absolute masterpiece. The rest of the album doesn’t matter anymore. Even after hearing it so many times it still stays top class. The rest of the album is just solid. Favourite songs: - Hotel California - The last resort
4+
Hotel California is an incredible song. Loved every single bit of it. The rest of the album surprised me. I've never gotten around to the Eagles before so I thought it would sound similar to that song. But It was way more american and pop and rock n roll, and was giving me main-character-energy doing my high paced walk. Very driving music. The band sounds so good. His an amazing singer, and the guitarist is having the time of his life. The whole production reminded me of Fleetwood Macs "Rumours". Maybe it's the same studio? It's a very dry and saturated sound, almost cliché sounding. Loved the second and third track as well. From there it got a bit bland, but I liked the string and orchestra interludes, they were epic. Got a bit bored by the ending, except for the final son. I don't remember the name, but it got me in my feels.
8/10. The music in this album is very splendid.
Yeah I I like it
Not the eagles man... The Eagles’ *Hotel California* stands as a timeless masterpiece of 1970s rock, blending lush harmonies, intricate storytelling, and virtuosic musicianship. Released in 1976, the album captures the decadence and disillusionment of its era, anchored by the haunting title track. “Hotel California” remains iconic, its cryptic lyrics and dual guitar solos symbolizing the seductive trap of excess and the elusive American Dream. Tracks like “New Kid in Town” and “Life in the Fast Lane” showcase the band’s versatility, weaving country-rock roots with sharper, edgier tones. Don Henley’s weathered vocals and the band’s meticulous arrangements—layered with Joe Walsh and Don Felder’s searing guitar work—elevate the album’s introspective themes. The closing epic, “The Last Resort,” reflects on environmental and societal decay, underscoring the Eagles’ knack for blending personal narratives with broader cultural critiques. While some may find its polish almost too pristine, *Hotel California* endures as a profound exploration of ambition and emptiness. A landmark in classic rock, it’s a album that invites both sing-alongs and deep reflection—a testament to the Eagles’ legacy.
<3
Title track is legendary. Thought the rest was a little uneven
i really enjoyed this album. there where a few times it sounded a bit too country for me, but even then it’s not like country music is horrible, just a bit annoying sounding to me (blame my dad for having a country music phase in 2016). i’ll almost certainly buy this album on CD if i see it at vinnies, Hotel California is an obvious hit but i also really enjoyed Pretty Maids All In a Row and Wasted Time (reprise). i’m struggling to pick between a 4 and a 5 but im just not super drawn to listen to this album again for a little bit, i might reserve my 5’s for albums that i get hooked on, and this one, while it has all the ingredients of an album i’d love, just didn’t hook me.
Album is very dad rock. Favourite Songs: Hotel California, New Kid In Town, The Last Resort. Least Favourite Songs: Wasted Time (Reprise), Pretty Maids All In a Row.
The Eagles "Hotel California" Country Rock. That's not a seal of approval for me. Anything to do with 'country' is a red flag for me. But I have to say the three singles are real gems. I like "A New Kids in Town" more than the title track "Hotel California" - the singing is just beautiful. OK, the rest of the album doesn't quite convince me, but overall it's a good album.
Kelly would be proud.
It's kind of funny how the title track to this album is a departure from the rest of the album. It doesn't really set the tone or theme of the record. Which is fine. The album is really good. Hotel California (the song) is probably one of the most important rock and roll songs, and one of the most iconic and recognizable songs ever written Don Henley has a great voice. And everyone is playing amazing. I suggest that everyone watch the two part Eagles Documentary. It really shows how disfunctional they were at times and how their egos almost destroyed them. But it also showed how talented and how much of Perfectionist they each are.
3.7/5
Pretty good. Weakest song is Pretty Maids all in a row.
Classic album
A clear masterpiece. Though not my fav...
Well of course these are great, well written songs with great voices and musicians. My only critical comment is it feels overly polished and the drums are a bit robotic
I fucking hate the eagles man
Algunos bangers pero le falta consistencia
4.5/5
"Dave, can't we just put a 'The' in our name, as that's what everyone will be doing anyway?" "No." "Seriously, why n..." "We are Legion. We are Eagle."
Outstanding
Die Lieder würde ich nicht einfach so hören, aber sie sind sehr schön und bringen nostalgische Atmosphäre. Vielleicht höre ich das Album bald nochmal
I was excited for the excuse to spin this on my turntable today. Not surprisingly, I first stumbled upon this album as a kid while going through my dad’s CD collection. It was my first ‘no-skip’ album so it occupied the space as my favorite for a short time. I still look upon it fondly today. Best song is Wasted Time.
Thought it would be bad after hotel California, but it was actually a solid album from start to finish!
Pretty dang cool there buddy
Classic album - very good, title track is so good.
Pretty good album in general the title track is an all time great.
yeah was pre good, only really bopped to 2-3 songs though
Each track is 5 minutes long and for what. Ok to be fair they are good songs, they're just as inoffensive as they come and very repetitive. Makes perfect sense why they're so popular in the US. 7/10 Fave track: Life in the fast lane
4/5 sorry dad
The title track is probably one of the greatest songs ever written but the remaining album fall a little flat
* Liked this more when it was first released when I listened to it a lot. Still okay, but not a favourite. Maybe a few too many songs about how tough it is to be in the music business and/or living in California. That said, best tracks for me are Hotel California and New Kid in Town.
Turns out to be like a greatest hits. 50 years... wow. Makes me feel old.. recall listening to this n my 8-track. Good, classic Calif Rock
Do folks not realize this is grandpa rock now? Dad rock is like from the 90s. Either way, it's a 4. The first 3 songs are the best, the rest is just okay. 4/5
I thought I hated this album but I guess I've reached peak middle age cause I was feeling it now.
Yep fye
Yeah, still holds up in the ranks of MOTR easy listening rock albums. Bit like Rumours, the classics are still classics and the rest are pretty good too. Nice background stuff.
The highs hit really high, but the rest is just sort of fine - soft rock with occasional bangers. Hotel California, obviously, and Life in the Fast Lane deserve the high rating, but the other tracks did start to feel like filler after a while.
Very pleasant music.
Essential Dadcore
Classic but not quite 5
I made enough bald dad jokes during the stream. Thankfully I only made it halfway through before getting pulled away. It's hard to appreciate something that's been overplayed since before you were born, and the country influence doesn't make it any easier. I'd give it a 2 or 3 if Joe Walsh wasn't such an incredible guitarist.
Can't really find fault with it, what was Lebowski talking about? Closer to an 8 than a 6.
It’s the Eagles so it was a classic. Really good music
Another classic
Well, well, well—it’s the greatest rock song countdown stalwart, Hotel California! On the Jersey/Philly radio stations, it always seems to rank #4 all-time behind Stairway to Heaven, Freebird, and … something much less memorable, evidently. The commentary is resonant, the metaphors incisive. Then the guitar solo! Hotel California earns its berth. Wasted Time sounded a bit like Elton John—nice. Try and Love Again was my other favorite; these guys really make the most out of harmony.
What a fascinating album. Arguably each song is worse than the one before it (depending how you rate Wasted Time and Victim of Love), which is unusual—usually a band tries to spread out the best songs, but this is super front-loaded. Which is not to say it's a bad album! More on that later. I was also struck by how much the ballads seem to foreshadow a lot of what was to come with 80s hair metal, musically speaking. 1. Hotel California — On the Mt. Rushmore of classic-rock epics, up there with Stairway to Heaven and Don't Fear the Reaper. It doesn't hit the same on the thousandth listen, but that's not the Eagles' fault. If you claim not to like this song you're a pretentious dweeb who took the wrong lessons from The Big Lebowski. (I do think that movie single-handedly tanked the Eagles' reputation among college-educated Millennial men.) 2. New Kid In Town — Not the most amazing composition ever, but it's a nice little melody and Glenn Frey sings like an absolute angel. 3. Life In the Fast Lane — A little cheesy, but that guitar hook absolutely rocks. 4. Wasted Time — Here's where things start to descend into dreary non-powerful power ballads. This is the best of the bunch. The lyrics are actually decent. 5. Reprise — okay fine 6. Victim of Love — You could argue this is better than Wasted Time. It rocks decently hard. But the title is so fucking cheesy, it taints it. 7. Pretty Maids All In a Row — Boring proto-power ballad 8. Try and Love Again — On repeat listen, this might actually be kind of good? There's one part at the end of each verse that really hits, musically. Where he sings "day by day" the first time through. 9. The Last Resort — Another shitty ballad, but I give it a little bump because it turns out they're writing about American consumerist decadence and the spoliation of the West ... points for getting political.
Can’t believe it buuut…I liked this album a lot. I’ve always been a hater of the title track. Always. Was prepared w a Big Lebowski joke etc etc. But with good headphones on a plane with my eyes closed, the production sounds so dense and chill and inventive……I like the Eagles?
i like this
Rock, Pop, 1976 -> 4
The A side is seriously good - Hotel California has one of the great guitar solos and Life in the Fast Lane has one of my favourite riffs. They feel like a middle class version of Lynyrd Skynyrd, not quite got the bite I’d want but still enjoyable. B side gets a bit tedious but gets 4 because of the first few songs 3.75/5
Baffling to see the hate for this. Wasted time was such a great interlude. Probably wouldn’t rush back to this but lovely listen
Great! Of course heard the song hotel California but not the whole album! Want to listen to more eagles
Good stuff
Good lord it's full of hits.
Such a lovely place, such a lovely face Why are all entries with 'California' in it sad? Hotel California delivers a lot of solid songs, not all of them on the same level, but I was quite aware of some singles from here. The lows aren't as low as I've expected of Eagles, The highs are pretty high, as this one includes their most popular work. The instrumentation is nice, although I wish it was just a tiny bit more cohesive song-to-song. Overall, I'd hesitate to give it a 5/5, but it definitely deserves at least a 4/5 out of me.
Banging title song, rest of the album seems pretty good
overall a really good album. majority of the songs didn't hit as hard as wasting time and hotel california, i thought this was a definite great listen.
Hard to beat the first three songs out of the gate. Earlier releases were more about harmonization and collective sound; this album gives the individuals a little more room to show their talents. The bass line in "Hotel California"; the lead guitar in "Life in the Fast Lane"; the drums in "Victim of Love" -- these guys were in their prime.
The Eagles at their best, so many great lines from this album
4?
I'm really in two minds about this album. I find some of it, like Life in the Fast Lane or Victim of Love, gets too lost up its soft rock fundament and actually sounds very 80's ZZ Top-rock. Elsewhere they seem to be actively chasing the anthem - such as Wasted Time reprise which is Disney levels of trying to be meaningful. Aside from that it is consistently excellent. Title track, the country style licks harking back to previous albums, such as New Kid or Try and Love Again.
Enjoyed this more than I expected to. I enjoyed it all, in addition to the hits I was already familiar with.
- Very good Notable tracks: - Title track - Life in the Fast Lane - Wasted Time - Victim of Love - Try and Love Again - The Last Resort
Favorite Track: Life In The Fast Lane
Not really the biggest fan of Eagles by any sense. But I can't really deny that this is a good album.
I like the tone of this one, it’s not spectacular except for the first few songs but Hotel California is too nostalgic for me to not bump the rating up.
OFCCCC
A lot of classics on this album. Solid Eagles all the way down.
I know the Eagles aren’t exactly the coolest band in the world, but I really dig this record.
Good, but not as great as they'd become.
A good album by the Eagles, loved the classic song Hotel California. I also liked New Kid In Town, Try and Love Again and The Last Resort.
Heard a lot of Eagles growing up from my dad. Of course they're some great songs on here but I'm giving this album a little bump due to nostalgia.
Die Lieder würde ich nicht einfach so hören, aber sie sind sehr schön und bringen nostalgische Atmosphäre. Vielleicht höre ich das Album bald nochmal
There are a few great songs on this and a few very good ones. I remember seeing the Eagles warming up for Procol Harem - we left after the eagles.
Parts of the album are not great, but it's a great sound overall.
Eagles are timeless. Hard not to get exposed to them when your parent's coming of age years were in the late 70's. For this album specifically, a lot of the talk can be on the ubiquitous title track, but I think focusing on the unit as a whole is a good start. The majority songwriters here, Henley and Frey use their home state of California as a representative of the USA and the realities of the "American Dream". Their soft vocals make the listener feel comfy, yet attentive. Backed by Meisner, Felder, and Walsh on harmonies and bass/guitar, tracks such as "Life in the Fast Lane" and "Victim of Love" give us more of the straightforward rock n' roll sound that many are used to hearing from the Eagles. A majority of the album does follow in the path of the title track, more tender and cinematic as it nears its end, maybe losing its momentum a bit in my eyes but nothing to nitpick too much about. Still a strong and concise album from one of the dream teams in rock at the time.
Own this. There are a few tracks I regularly listen to (Hotel California, The Last Resort) but I don't listen to the whole album very often. Listening to it now reminded me that the rest of the album is also very good. Not good enough for 5 stars but it is very close.
Out of the usual comfort zone. A chill Saturday morning album to listen through.
норм, подойдет для роудтрипа или можно включить как фон на вечеринке
+ d eskalation vo hotel california isch für immer legendär + immer guet wenn mir öpper es gschichtli verzellt + guets verhältnis vo upbeat/chill + mir gfallt s zemespiel vode instrument
Gute 4. Schöne Einzelstücke und auch als Album durchwegs stimmig.
very good 4/5
Timeless, of course not everyone’s cup of tea due to its length. But you can feel passion, you can feel love, you can feel gratitude and rebellion. It’s spirit, it’s the embodiment of freedom up until now.
Not The Eagles, man! But this was actually OK: it turns out the title song has been overplayed, but the rest has been underplayed.
The album matches the Hotel California vibe but is pretty much eclipsed by such a great song. Though Life in the Fast Lane was a nice discovery. Great songwriting as always from these guys
classic
I believe in 70s supremacy
I mean, do people really hate the f*cking Eagles? This is an iconic album that sold like a zillion copies and sneaks in a few slick riffs in between the soft rock. You can't hate that.
Somewhat too much balladry for me. But excellent music overall.
DIE IGEL ja hotel kalifornien isch halt en riese banger. es isch gsanglich so simpel aber d gitarre mmmh hahahah ok ab jz kenni glaub keis lied meh new kid in town isch megaa schön wenn au chli uf de schnulzige siite ahh life in the fast line kenntmer ja au hahahaha es isch chli ruhigers aerosmith? also s riff vo fast lane erinneret mich mega ah walk this way hahahaha wasted time findi mega e typischi schnulze für die ziit hahahaha git besseri aber han schochli en soft spot für so züg s reprise isch cute I guess victim of love arsch I'm sorry he chönnt da wiedermal öppis mot chli dampf underem füdli cho oh gott try an live again gitmer als titel nöd so d hoffnig CUT MY LIFE INTO PIECES ah nöd de last resort ja noaml nomal schnulze hey ich bin da mit echli höchere erwartige ihstige als schlussendlich gliferet worde isch, ich bin ja eig offizielle schnulze-enjoyer™️ aber das sind jz gfühlt 70% vom album gsi. hotel california isch en riiiese banger und d musig an und für sich isch sehr schön aber eifach nacheme ¼ gfühlt isches nurno seicht? mal luege wieni mi mirn fühl aber bin zwüscheme 3 und 4, sorry lugr
Very well put together record. Unfortunately falls into a category/ age relative to when I was I a teen that put it in a lame old person’s music category. For that reason I will likely never fall in love with the record. But listening to it I can hear why it is one of the all time best selling albums. Played it properly through my full stereo and was a great sounding record. Might have been a five if I didn’t have the history with it that I do. But as it is I’ll put it as a four.
Pure quality
Classic!
What a bop.
Love some of these songs, but now realise that it's only the 1st half of the album. Not so fussed about the 2nd half. But the 4 stars anyway because the good tracks are awesome :D
Classic.
Good mix of country and rock and roll, fun time
Front-loaded to a comical degree. I don't think I am going to ruffle anyones feathers saying that the first few songs were probably my favourite. It's also not to say that the latter half of this is bad. In fact songs like The Last Resort and Pretty Maids are still really good. Just a bit more standard. Especially when compared to how much the first half of the tracks here blew up in popularity. It's more comparable to hitting consecutive home runs back to back, then spending the rest of the time taking walks. Instead of striking out after a few initial successes. idk man, I had a rough night, and I still feel mostly indifferent towards the Eagles. Great album at the end of the day
Better than their titular album and front loaded as a nursing Khazar mother. This is music you listen to while drunk and probably also indulging in a borrowed cigarette.
Förvånad över hur mycket jag diggade det här
Do not particularly like the title song. Love "New Kid in Town." Feels like the album jumps around with energy level, which isn't bad. Just feels like different vibes.
they were inspired
Fine music as always
I enjoyed the album. Easy-country-light rock. I look forward to more Eagles albums.
Mixed bag here. Hotel California and Life in the Fast Lane are 5 stars. The rest is fairly mediocre. I can't give it less than 4, though.
****great album, good variety
It was only two days ago that I was served up the American Pie album and I suggested that the title track was one of the most famous songs ever. Then today I get Hotel California and it could be argued that this albums title track is equally popular. There can’t be many who don’t know this song. My own personal view of the album is that I never liked it enough to go out and buy on release but as time as passed by I have begun to appreciate its worth and I have since purchased it. No self respecting record collection should be without this album given its now iconic standing and the fact it is one of the best selling ever. Having said that it’s not an album I ever reach for in its own right but happy to hear tracks randomly on shuffle. When I hear the title track, which is often, I now always relate it to the UK’s Brexit problem. “You can check out anytime but you can never leave” I also think that those immortal lyrics can be applied to a lot of other life situations but unlike American Pie those are the only lyrics I immediately recall so on that basis alone when considering the battle of the Dons it is McLean who beats Henley. 4/5 25/10/24
I'm an Eagles fanboy so no surprises here. Life In The Fast Lane is one of my favorite tracks ever
**Hotel California** by Eagles is a landmark album in rock history, released in December 1976. As their fifth studio album, it marked a turning point for the band, blending rock with country and folk influences. Here’s an in-depth review, focusing on the lyrics, music, production, themes, and influence of the album, along with a balanced look at its strengths and weaknesses. ### Lyrics The lyrics of *Hotel California* delve into themes of excess, disillusionment, and the search for meaning. The title track, "Hotel California," serves as a metaphor for the hedonism and moral decay associated with the Californian lifestyle of the 1970s. Phrases like "You can check out anytime you like, but you can never leave" suggest an inescapable trap, with the hotel acting as a symbol for fame, addiction, or a dangerous allure. Other songs continue this exploration of darker themes. "Life in the Fast Lane" narrates the tale of a couple living recklessly, portraying a life fueled by drugs and materialism. In contrast, "New Kid in Town" reflects on the fleeting nature of success and fame, warning about how quickly people can be replaced and forgotten. Although some tracks, such as "Wasted Time," take a more introspective approach, exploring personal loss and regret, the album predominantly addresses the costs of the rock-and-roll lifestyle. The lyrical content is often poetic, layered with symbolic meaning, yet retains accessibility. Occasionally, however, the lyrics risk coming off as overly preachy, especially when moralizing about the pitfalls of excess, potentially limiting their appeal to some listeners. ### Music Musically, *Hotel California* is a mix of rock, country, and folk elements, showcasing Eagles' versatility. The band's signature harmonies and guitar work shine throughout. The title track is a masterclass in musical arrangement, starting with an iconic 12-string acoustic guitar riff that builds into a dynamic, multi-section composition. The guitar solo, performed by Don Felder and Joe Walsh, remains one of rock music's most celebrated moments due to its melodic quality and technical skill. "Life in the Fast Lane" leans more towards hard rock, driven by a heavy guitar riff and tight rhythm section, providing a gritty contrast to the more relaxed sound of earlier Eagles albums. Meanwhile, "New Kid in Town" features a smoother, more melodic approach, highlighting Glenn Frey's lead vocals and harmonizing with soothing backing. Other tracks, like "Wasted Time" and "The Last Resort," show the band's ability to integrate orchestral arrangements, which add depth to the compositions. However, the album’s tendency towards mid-tempo tracks can sometimes feel repetitive, with a few songs blurring together due to similar pacing and arrangements. ### Production Bill Szymczyk's production on *Hotel California* is a significant factor in its success. The album is immaculately produced, with each instrument occupying a distinct space in the mix, allowing the intricate harmonies and guitar parts to shine without overwhelming each other. The engineering ensures clarity and depth, enhancing the overall listening experience. The layering of guitars is especially notable; for instance, in the title track, multiple guitar parts interact seamlessly, creating a rich sonic tapestry. The production quality brings out the subtleties in the music, from the twang of the guitars to the nuances in the vocal harmonies. Despite its strengths, the album’s production could be critiqued for being too polished at times, lacking the raw edge that some rock fans might prefer. While the clean production fits the sophisticated sound Eagles aimed for, it may seem too controlled, detracting from the gritty spontaneity that characterizes other rock albums of the same era. ### Themes Thematically, *Hotel California* delves into the darker aspects of the American Dream, particularly as it relates to California's culture in the 1970s. The album questions the pursuit of fame and fortune, often suggesting that such ambitions can lead to hollow and unfulfilling lives. The title track embodies this critique, portraying a luxurious setting that ultimately becomes a prison for those who are seduced by its allure. This theme recurs throughout the album, with "Life in the Fast Lane" depicting the dangers of living recklessly, and "Wasted Time" addressing the emotional toll of broken relationships. In "The Last Resort," the closing track, the band broadens its scope to critique the environmental destruction and spiritual bankruptcy brought about by Western expansion. It is a powerful condemnation of materialism, lamenting the loss of innocence and natural beauty in the face of progress. The song encapsulates the album’s themes, suggesting that the pursuit of the American Dream can lead to the destruction of what made it desirable in the first place. However, while the themes are poignant, some may argue that the band's critiques are occasionally heavy-handed or moralistic. The focus on disillusionment and critique of fame might seem overly pessimistic, lacking the nuance or diversity of subject matter found in albums that explore a broader range of experiences. ### Influence *Hotel California* has left an indelible mark on rock music, influencing countless artists with its blend of rock, country, and folk. The album's sophisticated guitar work, vocal harmonies, and production standards have been emulated by musicians across genres. The title track, in particular, has become an enduring classic, frequently cited as one of the greatest rock songs of all time, both for its musical composition and lyrical depth. The album's success also solidified Eagles' place as one of the premier rock bands of the 1970s, setting a benchmark for subsequent bands. Its exploration of themes such as disillusionment and excess influenced the lyrical direction of other rock albums in the late '70s and '80s, resonating with listeners who were skeptical of the glamorous image often associated with rock stardom. However, the album's polished production and thematic focus on excess can also be seen as a precursor to some of the excesses in the rock music industry that would emerge in the following decades. The album has been critiqued for contributing to the corporate rock trend, where music became more about production quality and less about raw, unfiltered expression. ### Pros 1. **Iconic Songwriting:** The title track, "Hotel California," is one of the most memorable songs in rock history. Its lyrics, arrangement, and iconic guitar solo contribute to its timeless appeal. 2. **High-Quality Production:** The immaculate production ensures that every musical element is clear and well-balanced, with meticulous attention to detail. 3. **Musical Versatility:** The album demonstrates Eagles' ability to blend rock, country, and folk, creating a diverse yet cohesive sound. 4. **Thematic Depth:** The exploration of fame, excess, and the American Dream adds layers of meaning to the songs, giving the album a conceptual unity that many albums lack. 5. **Influence on Subsequent Music:** The album set a high standard for production and songwriting in rock music, influencing many artists. ### Cons 1. **Overly Polished Sound:** Some may find the production too clean, lacking the raw energy associated with rock music. 2. **Repetitive Tempo:** The mid-tempo pacing of most tracks can make the album feel monotonous in places, as there is little variation in the energy levels. 3. **Heavy-Handed Themes:** The critique of fame and excess can sometimes come across as moralistic or lacking in subtlety. 4. **Predictable Song Structure:** While the songwriting is strong, several tracks follow a formulaic structure, which might diminish the sense of spontaneity. 5. **Limited Exploration Beyond Themes:** The album's narrow thematic focus on disillusionment and excess might leave some listeners wanting a broader range of subject matter. ### Conclusion *Hotel California* remains a landmark album that captures the spirit and contradictions of the 1970s California rock scene. With its blend of rock, country, and folk, it showcases Eagles' strengths as musicians and songwriters, particularly in the title track, which has become one of the definitive songs in rock history. The high-quality production, layered guitar work, and rich harmonies elevate the music, even if the polished sound may detract from the raw energy that some listeners seek. The album's thematic exploration of fame, excess, and the American Dream adds a sense of conceptual unity, though the moralistic tone and repetitive pacing may not appeal to everyone. Despite these criticisms, the album's influence on rock music is undeniable, setting a benchmark for both production quality and thematic ambition. Ultimately, *Hotel California* is an album that encapsulates the triumphs and pitfalls of the rock-and-roll lifestyle, resonating with audiences for its profound messages and enduring musical appeal. While it may not be perfect, its strengths far outweigh its weaknesses, making it a classic that continues to resonate decades after its release.
AMAZING ALBUM!! Better then I expected
I dug this a surprising (to me) amount - certainly a lot more than their self titled. I'd go 4.5 on this one, if it were an option! The first three tracks are a great run. Even though I've heard the title track probably too many times, it's still a great tune, and the next two carry that on. "Wasted Time" felt like the steam being let out of things, but "Wasted Time: Reprise" redeemed it somewhat. I can certainly see myself revisiting this! Fave tracks - "Life in the Fast Lane", "Victim of Love" and "Pretty Maids All In A Row"
Great parts to it
Beyond the well-known songs it’s a mixed bag. Still enough great stuff to get it to a light 4.
There are a few key track that keep this from being way up in my 4½ zone. But I also think overexposure and time has not been kind to this album. But it's still a good one 8.7 ★★★★
4.5. Great slice of 70s California coke rock.
Incredibly front-loaded with the ultimate best song and all the other hits right at the start. Becomes a less alluring stay the longer it goes on with Pretty Maids All In A Row offering terrible room service. A four star hotel because of the excellent first half and Victim Of Love and Last Resort are pretty good as well.
Classic album. Some great songs, some ok.
My wife is prepared to sing this entire album, in order. Yeah, heard it often, and payed way too much to see their live act. Even spent a night in Winslow Arizona, and stood on the corner like a dumbass tourist. Such is the life of a husband married to a white chick of the 70’s.
Songs: Desperado/The Last Resort
Hating on the eagles is overrated. Relax and stop being annoying.
Good, but not quite as good as I remembered. Driven really by a couple of key songs
Very nice, not all bangers.
Not the greatest record ever, but some classics. Not sure why some people hate this so much
Very good
Familiar sound. Old classics. Nice, easy listening rock. Good album.
*Block party! *bland rock
Now, THAT's what I'm talking about. Great music. I could hear every words and no grinding music. Pure Rock & Roll.
Classic! Not my every day listen, but great album
4/5 probably even before listening.
REALLY REALLY REALLY STRONG 70's rock really enjoyable 88/100
Pretty good dad-rock kind of stuff. Wouldn't listen to it on repeat and there are maybe a couple too many slow ballads, but I like the guitar solos
True classic
Really good album for it's time.
The Eagles can be a very divisive subject. Mostly because people like to reference The Dude from "Big Lebowski" and his disdain for the band. I think "Hotel California" is great. The addition of Joe Walsh to the lineup for this album gives them a Rock edge that they has been missing before then. "The Last Resort" is a fantastic closer to the epic recording.
Really good
Loved it! Nostalgic. I was 16 years old when this album came out. Damn! 4
What a great album. Just love it.
I'm definitely an Eagles fan. There's something special about "Hotel California," but everybody knows how great that song is. What grabbed me on this Eagles album were the lesser known songs! The ballads, the endearing songs. The first "Wasted Time" had evocative lyrics, and the following "Wasted Time" orchestral instrumental was beautiful. The lesser known songs didn't have the hook of "Hotel California" or the loudness of "Life in the Fast Lane," but what the Eagles created in them is the essence of the Eagles! Soft rock at its finest. This album was so mellow and pleasant. You might even say the Eagles created a peaceful, easy feeling (shh, I know that song isn't on this album). And finally, I was struck by how great Don Henley's vocals are--and how they're superior to the rest of the group.
Sometimes I question this project's choices of albums, but I do feel like the Eagles were an appropriate inclusion, and I also feel like "Hotel California", along with the other Eagles album on this project, their self-titled, make up the best Eagles inclusions. This album represents the Eagles in their prime, for sure. Look, I think this entire album is good. But even if it wasn't, "Hotel California", the song, is almost worth the album's inclusion just by itself. It's an iconic, super well-known song, representing stellar songwriting and amazing music work. This song is somehow synonymous with the American bar scene -- it's the kind of song you hear at the peak of the night when everyone is feeling good and everyone sings along. Even in Italy, when I passed by a self proclaimed American-themed bar, the locals were inside blaring and singing a karaoke rendition of "Hotel California". Furthermore, opening the album with "Hotel California" seems so simple, but in the context of the entire album, it feels like such an eerie opener, and I love it. But seriously, the Eagles had the niche at the time on that kind of mostly-rock-but-a-touch-of-country genre, and this album is them at their peak in that space. Every song on this album hits and just makes such a cohesive, interesting work.
I never owned this album but remember it being really popular back in the day. Though I am very familiar with several of the songs, this is actually the first time I ever sat down and listened to this album from front to back. Side 1 bangs and side 2 is just OK/OK+ which pretty much sums up how I feel about the Eagles.
4 Just for the California one. The rest were also ok
The eagles are soaring high! A bit confused by waste of time, I genuinely had to check Spotify to see why I suddenly got into Disney soundtracks
Man, kicking off an album with Hotel California, just to follow it with New Kid in Town and Life in the Fast Lane really sets the stage. This whole album just sounds incredible. From start to finish, I was into every song and even let it play through a second time. I think the back half of the album drags a bit, which is why this isn’t a 5 star album but honestly will be listening to it again.
I hate that the eagles have become synonymous with “dad rock”, which is clearly meant to have a negative connotation. What the fuck is wrong with having an actual melody, tight harmonies, and just an easy listening vibe?? Glenn Freys vocals are so good and their instrumentation is just so pleasant to listen to. Also, I splooge every time a band does a 1-2 minute orchestra version of a song. You hear that every now and then in rap albums and it’s always such a nice surprise. And speaking of splooging, I just love eagles background harmonies. They’re so distinctive and really just make for a nice sound. Side B of this album is pretty surprisingly bad and was borderline going to take this down to a 3 but side A is so strong it had to be a 4.
I specifically saved this album for a late road trip home on a Sunday and I’m so glad I did. Even with slower songs this one really gets the blood pumping and it just rocks overall. Great variety, incredible guitar riffs, and the harmonies provide that perfect ear tickle. The only thing that drops this to a four for me is that the front half is loaded with hits and the back half doesn’t quite hold up. Can’t wait for more Eagles albums.
How can a band release their greatest hits album and then 9 months later dropped one of the most iconic records of all time? "Hotel California" and "Life in the Fast Lane" are all timers, but the rest of the album left me a little wanting. This feels like a 3.5 album for me, but those two songs alone bring it up to a 4.
Solid 70s jams
Always a classic.
The second album in a row with strong start and finish. The rest is pleasant but not the same league.
Good stuff overall.
classic
Classic!
Some amazing tracks. Great album showcasing late 70s rock.
We need more classic instruments in rock
7/10
I'm young enough not to have heard the title track played to death on the radio. Sure I've heard it a bunch of times but never properly listened. It's such an iconic song and the whole album really holds up well. I can easily see myself listening to this again.
This CD starts off absolutely crushing, with the inimitable title track and two solid hits. And it's quite good overall - like The Dude, I enjoy hating on The Eagles as much as anyone, but they really were very good. But after the hits, it kind of loses steam. The 2nd half is pleasant enough, but it's kind of light and has nothing near the dramatic turns of the title track. Overall though, lush backing vocals, crystal-clear production value and some really pretty badass guitar makes for a good listen.
Great album, honest. But the first song is nothing like the rest, one of a kind, really. 7.9/10. It’s good but not quite there.
I'm not as familiar with the Eagles' discography as I probably should be, but I'd be surprised if this wasn't their best album, possibly by a long shot (and what a shame it had to compete with "Rumours" for album of the year). Their radio hits are *still* fun to listen to all these many years later, and while the title track is immortal (and spawned more than a few great covers), "Life in the fast lane" and "Victim of love" are also solid songs in their own right. Overall, I've never gravitated towards the Eagles, I'll admit, but I didn't mind listening to this at all, even the less-memorable stuff. Not exactly the highest praise, I know, but hey, they get 4 stars from me on the strength of the title track and "Life in the fast lane" alone. :)
Hadn't heard this in years and really enjoyed it. When they're on, they're on. The first three songs more than make up for The Last Resort which hasn't aged well.
I get it. For a LOT of people, especially if they’re from the era and have heard this album SO many times, it’s become polarizing. Played out, heard too many times on rock radio, etc. But after seeing them twice live now in just the last couple of years, once where they played this album start to finish in its entirety… call me a fan. I’ve noticed that live music has a power that in some instances has turned a band I didn’t really know (or even didn’t really like) into one that I’m interested in diving into more of their music after the concert experience. Eagles became like that for me and Lisa. Hopefully we’ll get to see them one last time before they wrap up their touring life. I’m sad that we didn’t get to seen them before Glen Fry died, but DAMN if Vince Gill didn’t step in and kill it as a temporary Eagle. Back to this album: it’s a deserved classic for a reason, as it captures the Southern Californian easy going vibe with some country-tinged flavoring, and it nails it. I actually wonder if modern country radio stations would claim Eagles or not 🤔🤔🤔. Not sure it’s a given. But the only slight knock on this album is that it loses just a bit of steam toward the end of side two. Hard to hold up to the first half’s songs though: it’s a murderer’s row of classics that still sound amazing to this day. So, while I do get that some Boomers may be burnt out on Eagles, but count this Gen-Xer as a still dedicated fan 😎.
Great. Enjoyed it a ton
Mostly great album, starts strong, peters out later on.
Excellent album. There are a couple of stand-out tracks (you know which) and the others ... not exactly filler, but fairly unmemorable.
actually really did like this project. Ended up adding 6 of these songs to my playlist so there’s that. Highest one I’ll have rated on this website this far
I read the piece left on another's review of the album about The Eagles history and the music 50 years later. I think the reviews are why I like this project so much. The article used the word ubiquitous a lot, which is accurate of The Eagles music, it is everywhere, so easy to listen to and their harmonies are off the hook and if you listen too long it becomes pedantic and monotonous. The Dude agrees.
140/1001 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑
auch neben den bekannten songs hörbare musik.
Definitely a classic. Lots of hits.
Hotel California New Kid in Town Life in the Fast Lane
icon
I grew up listening to Hell Freezes Over and had never listened to any other original Eagles albums. Looking it up 5 of the 8 tracks (why did they separate Wasted Time into two?) are on that album so I was very familiar with all the songs. It was interesting to hear the originals and I think I prefer the live versions more. Still fun stuff. Nice and easy listening.
Fun album overall. Really like Try and Love Again.
Some classic songs
Nice listening. Elaborate arrangements and superb efforts from the musicians.
another classic. at times annoying for being over played. others good classic rock
Great album from back when I was alive. Great memories
It's all about being at the right place at the right time and the Eagles were in such a position by 1976. Arguably one of the last rock albums, in the purest sense, before the landscape was shaken and fragmented entirely, Hotel California represents the band at its most majestic and ambitious. One glance at the album cover tells you everything that's needed to be known about it before the needle even drops. An iconic 70s rock record, what more is needed to be said that hasn't been? Favorites: Hotel California, New Kid in Town, Life in the Fast Lane, Pretty Maids All in a Row, Try and Love Again.
This was so much better then their self titled, I enjoyed this album a lot even though it faltered off near the end
It did not age that well and sounds like a rock album for boomers nowadays. But the classics (New Kid, Fast Lane, Hotel) are there and the other songs are not that bad either. Like the dad joke that makes you laugh anyway. Like the simple pasta dish that outranks the complicated five star dinner. You like it, you just don’t want to admit it.
Second album by Eagles on this project (still no albums by the Stones). I’m wondering why people have such an antipathy towards this band. Good listen.
Heard it a lot
It’s ok Dad Rock, it has its moments. Life In The Fast Lane is better than the title track though.
Great start, lovely jazz. 4*
Great album with lots of classics. These guitar tones are a guitarist dream. 4 stars
Welcome to the Hotel California! Just a classic. what else needs to be said.
Eagles at their best
Classic eagles
I’ve never listened to a full Eagles album. I really enjoyed this
- wonderful album - good mix of bangers and softer stuff - Hotel California is obviously a classic - 4.5
Classic album
I was pleasantly surprised when relistening to an album that I had always thought of as pretty mid-tier classic rock turned out to be pretty entertaining throughout. Yeah I don’t think the harder rocking songs were as interesting or distinctive, but many of the slower cuts had a vibe to them that I just found very inviting. All around, this is a really good album and I’m glad I got a chance to give it another shot.
Hotel California might be one of the most overplayed radio songs, but I am loathe to admit that it is a good song. Overall this is a solid album and I can see how it influenced music. Life in the fast lane is a great song and the ones I hadn't heard before were all good songs. I know I will hear many of these songs in the future even if I don't listen to the album by itself.
Falls off a bit but really solid
Two iconic songs that still play constantly on classic rock radio (Hotel California and Life in the Fast Lane), two more that still get occasional play (New Kid in Town and Victim of Love), and then some other stuff that didn't do much for me. I think I heard Joe Walsh of some of that other stuff. Hotel California is probably the best song here. It's just that I've heard it a thousand times, so I'll go with New Kid in Town as my favorite track. I'll listen to this album again and see if the lesser known tracks grab me.
Great record
This is an absolutely classic piece of rock and roll. A couple of hits, a couple or tracks I haven't heard before, all good.
PRETTY DMAN GOOD
I hope I made my parents proud
Opening pair of tracks are fantastic and the rest of the album ranges from OK-to-good. Is the last song supposed to be like an apology for manifest destiny?? Some weirdness aside it’s definitely worth a listen or two. Best song: Hotel California
I appreciate the Eagles although I do not love them.
Try and live again, new kid in town. Hotel california. This is the superior Eagles album
One of the best songs in the history of rock music plus the most average album in the history of the average albums. Listening to this lp was a pretty boring experience in general, but I just don't feel it's fair to give a bad rating to one of the greatest guitar solos ever. So here we are.
Pretty cool, didnt find full album
I learned two things. It's "Eagles" not THE Eagles. And I had no idea that I was in love with the song "Victim of Love" but it happened and I swear I am totally innocent.
I’m not the biggest Eagles fan, but I’ve spent time with this album in the past and it is a solid work.
The Eagles are not a band I seek out, but this album is such a staple of classic rock that giving it less than a 4 feels wrong. And I also enjoyed it!
One of the best ever
Приятное старческое музло, без тошноты и уныния, все как надо душе под вискарик
Day121 - if i reviewed this 30 years ago it would be five stars but as good as it is if i never have to hear the eagles again i’ll be happy
All time classic, probably my favorite eagles record
I can tell why it’s a classic. Some of it is just excellent.
A classic for a reason. Also very nostalgic to me with my father being a big fan.
Impossible not to like this album. Peak Eagles. Slightly darker/more melancholic than I recall.
listened before. you still cant mess with a classic.
Enjoyed the lead duel between Joe Walsh and Don Felder more. Now appreciate where the band was when this was released. Enjoyed Wasted Time…
Majority of the album is missing from YouTube music.
Grew up with the Eagles. They played often at the concert venue in my home town. 4/5
01) Hotel California - 10,0 02) New Kid In Town - 10,0 03) Life In The Fast Lane - 8,0 04) Wasted Time - 8,5 05) Wasted Time (Reprise) - 6,0 06) Victim of Love - 8,5 07) Pretty Maids All in a Row - 8,0 08) Try and Love Again - 8,0 09) The Last Resort - 8,0 TOTAL: 8,33 (83/100) It's a 3,5-star album that will get 4 mostly because of the two exceptional songs at the beginning of the album. The rest is not so remarkable. 3.6 Roentgen, not great, not terrible...
I was pleasantly surprised by this album as for some reason I expected not to like it. I was familiar with the singles but not the album itself. I thought it was a solid and well-polished production and enjoyed listening to it. Who knew?? Listens: 1 Fave Track: Hotel California Rating: 4
Wasted time ja muut kpl pitävät ihan hyvin seuraa huippukappaleelle.. Toimii varsinkin kun rauhallisesti kuuntelee ja ei odota mitään ja loppuun nokoset.. Huoh.. perfect scenario for album.. and her rating.. Enjoy.. I cannot lie.. see other reviews.. Strict objectia..
Well written, well performed, and very well produced, but is missing a certain something to make it unique and interesting amongst a sea of generic dad rock.
The Eagles are another band that I will always listen to. This album is great but there are a few skips.
Pretty damn good
Hotel California – 5 New Kid in Town – 5 Life in the Fast Lane – 5 Wasted Time (1) – 4 Wasted time (2) – 3 Victim of Love – 4 Pretty Maids All in a Row – 4 Try and Love Again – 4 The Last Resort – 4.5 Average – 4.27 The American Beatles 👍
I was not expecting much from this. I have only really known the title track over the years, and even that I have always thought was just OK rather than amazing. So I came into the full album with fairly low expectations. It surprised me. There is a real polish and confidence to this record. The songwriting is tighter than I expected, and the production has that warm mid 70s California sheen without feeling overblown. New Kid in Town is excellent, smooth and melodic with a great vocal, and Life in the Fast Lane has real bite and energy. Across the whole album there is a strong sense of craft. The musicianship is superb and the songs feel carefully constructed rather than thrown together. It flows well and never drags, which I did not anticipate. I will definitely listen again, which is not something I thought I would be saying beforehand. Favourite song: Life in the Fast Lane Least favourite song: None. All strong tracks Album artwork: Great cover. Instantly recognisable and perfectly suited to the mood of the music
classical eternal banger (hotel california)
Décent album
Hotel California – 5 New Kid in Town – 5 Life in the Fast Lane – 5 Wasted Time (1) – 4 Wasted time (2) – 3 Victim of Love – 4 Pretty Maids All in a Row – 4 Try and Love Again – 4 The Last Resort – 4.5 Average – 4.27 The American Beatles 👍
3.9/5 Best Track: Hotel California
Ok, honnêtement c’est quand même bon. C’est pas le meilleur rock, mais ça s’écoute très bien d’une oreille
Although I’m a little tired of how overplayed this band has been over the years, I will admit that I owned this album back in the day and their harmonies are beautiful to listen to.
I don't like the Eagles but I have to give props to this album and it's actually mostly not the Eagles sound that I don't like.
Personally, I dance to forget. It would seem I've been away from Classic Rock radio stations long enough to appreciate this. Probably the first time I've ever listened on headphones, too. The Eagles catch a lot of flack, but this is a solid album. Particularly enjoy the Joe Walsh guitar.
I know its coolness vacillates but I love the song “Hotel California” and The Eagles Live is one of my favorite albums! Probably the reason why I stuck with Americana music and love harmonies.
A few classics, particularly the title track, and a fair bit of filler, such as the reprise of a song on the following track. The good songs are so good, and the filler just good enough, that this has to score well. I just wish they had put more effort into making more even albums, or just fewer albums, so their great songs weren't spread so thinly.
This is proper good. Loved it 🤩
This is why I love this project. I’ve always openly talked shit on the Eagles, but giving this a sincere and honest listen was a nice experience. It resonated with me in a real way. They’re like a calmer ELO.
I'll always love the Eagles man. They have such a unique "California Rock" style to their music. Equal parts Rock, Soul, Funk, and Blues with a dash of country twang. Don and Glenn are legends and deserve all the praise they get. Plus, 5 hit albums in 5 years is insane. Each album from their self-titled in 1972 to this one in 1976 is filled with hits. These guys rule.
Enjoyable
This band has great harmonies. I listened to this one driving to St. Louis, and I realized it makes a really good road trip album. Each song is just a little bit different enough to keep me interested, and they're all hits. I don't think I heard "New Kid on the Block" before, but I really liked it. I tried humming what I thought the melody would be before it came in, and it had some prettier chords than what I had in mind. I also like the "Wasted Time" interlude. I always wonder who writes those. Is it the same songwriters who do the orchestrations? Very pretty. "Last Resort" was an interesting song. I had to go back and read the lyrics for it.
I didn't have that many opinions on this album (other than that I like hotel California) but I did listen to it basically all day so I guess I liked it subconsciously?
Overall this is an OK album. Sound production is not great but that might come from the "remastered" version I listened to on Spotify. Of course, there are some classics but the second side lacks the spark.
The americanest USAest music. Country rocanrolleo, crec que son rollo Estopa, muy famosos allí pero nadie los conoce fuera, excepto por el hit que se hizo famoso.
Solid album , I ended up listening to it twice over and enjoyed it.
The Eagles are legends and Hotel California is one of my all time favorite songs! Having said that, this isnt one of my favored albums from this band; the first track is incredible but the rest are sorta meh.
