Reviews (page 10 of 13)
Appreciate the real instruments, though the songs are old, they feel relevant in today's times. As first time listening through, it was refreshing music. pretty sure I won't listen to again.
2.5/5 - clear moon rising is a banger but the rest of the album is a bit all over the place
Album is fine, nothing bad but not much that's my favourite. Bad Moon Rising is fantastic of course, which gets the album a 3*.
It’s not their fault the local dads started a covers band and play the same six songs every time anyone wants to hang out.
i enjoyed this for what it was! not super wowed by it, but thought it was an overall nice listen.
Seems like something I’d like more than I actually do in practice.
Classic rock, short album, mix of good with OK.
Im giving this a lower score only because this is my dads favorite band/album and Ive heard it way too many times. Its not a dig at the band and the music. I just cant understand why old white dudes enjoy this music so much.
Ok, but just ok.
Not sure this is a necessary Credence album. I would have picked any of the others from the first four years, and Bayou Country as the hidden gem. Green River is a good song, tho!
Stick to the greatest hits.
6/10
This has some fun tunes to listen. I think I'd enjoy this more if this wasn't loved by my uncles and a lot of boomers I know to the point I already listened to more than half of the album indirectly, it just sounds like boomer music to my brain idk
Solid album, but at some point for me the songs really start to all sound the same.
Hard to believe this was the second of three CCR albums released in '69. I think this is the best of that bunch with shorter tracks and Fogerty at a creative peak. Bad Moon Rising was a hit single here in the UK too.
Classic rock classic
The cover photo would suggest that one member was a bigger deal than the rest of the band. Hope that doesn’t create any tension between bandmates at any point moving from this point.
This is a first listen for me, despite being nearly as old as the album! I knew Bad Moon Rising, so was fascinating to hear it in the context of the album (often is). I enjoyed it...it's got a swampy, gritty edge to it. Having said that it feels quite a lot like loads of different versions of Bad Moon Rising at times. Bit samey in one go maybe? 3 - will return to it. Suspect repeated listening may increase the score. Can see why it's on this list.
Oooooooooh, it's that song. They made that?
it never quite clicked for me. some nice melodies but it all blurred into one
Decent but only 1 of the 6 songs I know by them is on this album.
That's alright, some good songs, some very repetitive not all that creative ones. Enjoyed it but wasn't wowed
The very definition of classic bluesy American southern rock. Feels good.
Not my favorite CCR album, but it does have some hits. CCR is one of my loved classic rock bands.
Not bad! But probably wouldn't listen again.
i can see the appeal but it doesnt really speak to me i guess
I expected to like this more than I did. Still pretty cool.
Old american pop. Not bad!
Standouts Storms Sisters of the Moon Tusk
Listening to this album in full reinforces what I'd always felt about CCR. They're a singles band. The rest of the album serves as filler for the two or three great cuts. Shrug...
Catchy, good mix of blusey and country, great songs to write parodies from
doesn't hit the same as their first album which is peak and not on this list for some insane reason
No frills classic rock. Very "American", all around good album by a fairly iconic band.
That's a solid 3 out of 5 if I've ever heard one
It’s ok with a couple of decent tracks but can’t justify higher than a 3.
A bit short and a bit samey … but otherwise perfectly average OK album
Seems like CCR really has a handle on blues rock. Very consistent.
Was ok
Never going to be my favorite band, but this was an enjoyable listen.
Rock solid, love CCR my el sobrante bros. A bit short, sweet and to the point.
Same sound on every song- I like the sound don’t get me wrong. But every do g this band out out was just created to later be used in a montage of the Vietnam war/late 60s. I also kinda was to punch Fogertys all American cockiness.
Very cool. Would listen again.
classic CCR, still as good as today.
I am enjoying the variety of the songs on this album, it doesn't feel as if there is a generic theme to the album, which I am enjoying.
Another creedence… another good album. Maybe deserves 4 but lacks the big hitters other albums of theirs have.
yeah that’s definitely a late 60’s rock 3.5
Light 3,5
3.5/5
Vibigt!
good old fashion southern/folk rock and roll
Gute Musik, fast vier sterne
Enjoyed more than I expected to
Solid if uninspiring just like all CCR.
Nice to listen to
Definitely got some great tracks, but this was the groups third album and they didn’t switch it up at all. Kind of clip-farming in a way, it’s good but short and simple and so i’m lowkey feeling a 3. Ima be basic my favorite tracks were green river and bad moon rising
This was cool, I don't think I need to hear it again, but I enjoyed the experience
Heard these tunes a million times, but damn, most are still pretty good.
fav: - wrote a song for everyone - lodi
Undeniably tight and well-made songs but do not make me feel. I think genre problem for rockabilly. Great voice and instrumentation
Very good
Some decent songs but not my favorite sound
I'd only heard Bad Moon Rising before (which is great). The whole album has that great CCR sound, but nothing really stood out to me apart from Bad Moon Rising. Lodi probably came closest. 👍Bad Moon Rising
I fucking love Creedence. I see "Bad Moon Rising" on here and I’m giving that a big ol’ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. That being said, the rest did not feel like their best, one sounded like kind of a rip of “Bad Moon Rising.” 3 for my kings.
A good album, you can hear the influences - rock, blues, country. It was an interesting listen, but I can't say I'll return to it on my own.
Beste sang: Green River
GUITAR Not majorly my thing but good god, guitar

Starting to come to terms with the fact that most of these bands I grew up listening to on the radio with my parents are best left to their greatest hits. A whole album's worth gets a little dull.
Pretty interesting blend of country, folk, and a dash of motown. I see the vision
When this album was released I had just left school and my mum had got me a temporary job at a carpet manufacturer. I began working with real men and women which was an eye opener to 16 year old me. One of the lads I worked with was called Gary who absolutely loved this album and could always be heard singing amongst the piles of rugs Bad Moon Rising. So this album will always me of him and these enlightening times. Didn’t really like the album too much back then as these times were at the start of peak prog which was my type of music. But listening today was very enjoyable. Lovely production and mix to make the overall sound clear and fresh. 3/5 24/9/25
Some classics on here. After a while I start to get tired of listening though.
I generally like CCR, and this album had a couple hits that I knew well and a bunch of tracks that I didn't. I enjoyed the hits and liked the "new" tracks. CCR's sound can grate on me a bit over time, but this album didn't outstay its welcome. I liked it, but probably wouldn't listen to it again in its entirety. Three stars.
I approached this with a fair degree of dread - CCR murdered 'Heard it through the grapevine' and it's hard to forgive that crime. Pleasantly surprised by this - Bad Moon Rising and Green River are good tunes. Parts are still pretty hokey, and too much twanging guitar. Fogarty has a good voice and suits the songs. 2.5 stars, rounded up.
The title track remains an certified swamp rock banger. One of their best songs. After that, things kinda peter off into generic C.C.R territory, which makes sense for album tracks, but still. Nothing bad, just nothing too outstanding. Bad Moon Rising is on here, which is nice if you're a fan of it, but I am not, so it isn't. Bordering on 4 stars just cause Green River and the album tracks aren't bad, but they also mostly aren't anything to write home about, so we'll settle on a 3.
I knew a couple songs which I think makes me like this better - but it’s cool, chill music.
Another solid southern rock album.
Helicopter
Easily distracted, pleasant sound. 3.
this one makes me feel ooey gooey.
Fun groove, solid listen. Enjoyed it and will listen again but wouldn’t rank in my top albums. Best songs are Bad Moon Rising and Lodi.
I obviously knew "Bad Moon Rising" and enjoy that song, but enjoyed the rest as well. It's always a plus when an album doesn't drag. Easy listening for a smooth 30 mins.
I dont really like CCR that much but I can respect that this album is good if you like this kind of sound. 6/10
Enjoyable and started like an album that would be some people's comfort food. Last few tracks faded a bit for me.
Best CCR album so far, definitely falls in the classic rock category. Strong 3
Solid 3 for me on today’s CCR, after two albums I’m a minor fan I’d say
Bad Moon Rising doing a lot of the heavy lifting here. A perfectly fine album, and while I appreciate John Fogerty as a band leader, I can’t see me returning to this album. Good road trip music.
I am getting to the point now when i get a 70s rock band, I groan loudly. I do give CCR the benefit of the doubt because they do deviate slightly from that cliche 70s sound, but I felt with this record that every song just blended into the other and there was no discernable difference from one to another. there was a decent bit in the middle that deviated away from this with: Wrote a song for everyone, Bad Moon rising and Lodi, which was quite a nice surprise. 3.5 stars
Not Cosmo's factory but still great
it's ccr
Calm blues ig
Good album. I liked it. I like the guys voice. Cool sounding band.
Very good
39 albums in to this project and I'm yet to discover anything that I wasn't already aware of or own that has blown me away. A couple of surprises but nothing that has made me go out and seek to buy a physical copy. After listening to this album, that quest continues..
1969 was an impressive year for these guys. An Ok album here. Short but that’s not a bed thing per se. But if this is the best of 1969 then 1970 (Cosmos Factory) is better.
overall a decent album with only one stand out for me. most of the tracks were pretty generic but inoffensive.
It’s all good, but the thing is… it all sounds the same.
I like the vocals, but it gets a bit boring for me after a few songs. I feel like that genre of music is less about composition, but more about lyrics, melody and their delivery. But I couldn’t connect much with these here. For me it just gives that typical southern/country “feel” and sounds alright, nothing stuck out. Maybe I need some more getting used to..
I love these guys and I feel like they don't get their due but this album was a little bit boring. If I had to choose one CCR album for this list it would have been Cosmo's Factory.
Number two of three CCR albums in this collection. Much like "Cosmo's Factory", this one has a few radio classics on it, and much like that album, it sounds exactly like you expect CCR to sound. Nothing wrong with that, of course, but the lack of variety makes it kind of hard to justify so many CCR albums in the collection, especially given how close-packed they are year-wise. I always hope they'll do something wild and crazy on one of these albums and crank out some sort of heavy rock song or a samba/waltz or something, but I guess that wasn't Fogerty's thing, especially given how much he seemed to stress how "disciplined" they were. (I *do* appreciate, though, how they resisted the infinite-jam sessions of some of their contemporaries.) I love it that the album title was taken from a soda-fountain syrup flavor Fogerty enjoyed as a kid. I'm probably wrong, but I could swear that I had a few cans of "Green River" soda/pop as a kid in Seattle. And that's probably the only connection I might have with the CCR boys.
Another one of those bands who I've never heard a full album from but understand their place in rock history. This was an incredibly solid album. It didnt blow me away by any means but I didn't mind returning to it as my day went on.
Great album
Good crunchy southern bayou rock! My tolerance for it is extremely limited, but CCR makes it worth a listen.
Big fan of ccr but the chronicle greatest hits album kind of invalidates all their albums other than cosmos factory
This was indeed a rock album. Perfectly fine but nothing special
...
Still not a big fan of CCR. But it's a good album
Hey the hits - Bad Moon Rising, Lodi, Green River - are obviously great, and I imagine I will not need to load up the album to have those be in my life as those don't seem to be going anywhere. The rest kind of sound like John Fogerty just riffing. Not ashamed to be a CCR greatest hits guy.
another classic CCR album. not so keen on the live stuff.
I never tire of listening to CCR. Solid lyrics, great instruments, folksy feels. They just feel like home.
A plain, honest blues-rock album. Very straightforward and pleasant to listen. A little too much on the country / bluegrass side for me, I think I prefer CCR when they do straight blues (like in the last two songs, which I really liked). Not my favorite CCR album, but still a good one overall !
Fun bass line in “Cross-Tie Walker” Fun guitar and bass lines in “Sinister Purpose”
A short burst of tight, bluesy, country rock and roll. I said this in my previous review of a CCR album, but John Fogerty is a great vocalist and his style of singing fits perfectly with this style of swampy rock music being played. It's a good album but I personally wouldn't say it's a great album, other than a couple of select highlights. 'Green River' is a foot tapper, 'Sinister Purpose' has a heavier edge to it, and there's a reason 'Bad Moon Rising' is one of their most popular songs. I wouldn't say it was any better or worse than their previous album I had. Maybe if you took the best tracks from the two you'd have a four star album but this is just a three.
Trying to find some consistency in the rankings but this is probably 3.5. Fun quick easy listen but probably in the 2nd or 3rd tier of CCR’s catalog
few good songs, but three albums in a year is diluting the output.
CCR is part of the soundtrack of my childhood, but I don’t really ever want to listen to a whole album of theirs. Every song on this album is very good to great, but I only want to hear one at a time. Is it that their range is too limited, or is it a me problem?
1969 was a prolific year for Creedence, releasing 3 full albums. Green River being the middle of them. Two stood out, Green River and Bad Moon Rising. Otherwise the album was just fine.
Favourites: Green River, Tombstone Shadow, Lodi, Cross-Tie Walker
Love me some CCR. This album was fine, loved Lodi, never heard it before. Bad Moon Rising is incredible and timeless. I feel like if I were in my 20s when this was released I would have made these songs my whole personality.
Nice
Glad to see these pop up again and not disappointed. The same energetic, 60s rock groove. Three albums, and quality albums, in one year, is damn impressive. Warm familiarity for ‘Bad Moon Rising.’ Each song just consistently with heart and soul. Prefer Bayou Country out the two. This is more of a steady, 4/4 trot. A square, rather than a hexagon! And nothing like ‘Broken Spoke Shuffle’ to make that point (3.5)
Good ol' boys at it again.
I love CCR but I think we've included an album too many on this list. Classic tracks like the title song, "Bad Moon Rising", "Wrote A Song For Everyone" & "Lodi" set this album apart and give it credibility, longevity and historical significance. "Commotion" is a glue song, but not a great song. "Night Time Is The Right Time" is a good cover! Love the "Glory Be" instrumental! A few songs missed the mark for me, specifically "Sinister Purpose" and "Commotion". Overall it's solid and stands up well today. 3.5 stars from me.
It's exactly what I imagined it would be. CCR swamp rock, blues sounds. Not bad if I was in the mood for it
The album is a timeless classic. Some of tracks hit home and some missed the mark entirely though.
Same problem i have woth cosmos factory persists here. The deep cuts are good but the hits are overplayed and especially Bad Moon Rising has gotten particularly annoying to me 7/10 Favourite: Green River Least Favourite: Bad Moon Rising
One of the constant themes in this challenge has been trying to like artists despite their “big hits.” And that’s exactly what happened with this record. When “Bad Moon Rising” came on, I remembered how little I liked it—it’s one of those tracks used, reused, and abused, even in ads. But other tracks like “Sinister Purpose” had a bit of a prog vibe that left me wanting more.
Well it's Creedence, man. It's a good album, expect the last track where they manage to make The Nighttime is the Right Time sound like Steely Dan track. Or is this the part where it turns out that Creedence was a major influence on Steely Dan?
Like CCR, but musically, this isn’t my favorite of their albums.
Good album! No song particularly jumped out to me but I liked the overall vibes.
CCR’s mix of southern-tinged rock, blues and country, married to John Fogerty’s crack songwriting, lends them a quintessentially American sound, rooted in the counterculture of their era but accessible enough for the masses. I realize I’ve never listened to any of their albums in full, but this one seems relatively straightforward and less freewheeling than many of the classic CCR songs I know and love. “Sinister Purpose” brings a welcome element of psychedelia, and I enjoy their swampy take on “The Night Time is the Right Time.” Elsewhere, there are a smattering of hits but also a few songs that don’t do much for me.
Fine I guess. Ready for a non Americana selection.
I like their distinctive sound, and the singles on this one were definitely the highlights.
Background musique, alrightish
Pretty good song-writer.
It’s alright
No debate, one of the seminal albums of all time
I'd say this is before they actually hit their stride. This is a great album with great songs. But they've got two better ones coming up
It's such a comforting sound. I'm finding that besides the hits like Bad Moon Rising, and Green River that Wrote A Song For Everyone was my initial favorite. I've just hit the final track and am VERY surprised by this cover. The Night Time Is the Right Time sounds really neat coming from this clunky bluesy gritty band. The in your face backing vocals is a really interesting flavor compared to the Ray Charles version! On my second listen through 'Commotion' is a killer. That driving line downward during the chorus is awesome.
blues
It's a Creedence Clearwater Revival album; I was disappointed. I always expect these albums to be soul-lifting bangers from beginning to end, but this one will have to settle for just "okay". Favorite Track: "Green River".
3.5 , good stuff did not get into it during the first half but the second half was great
John's voice is just spectacular - some iconic songs on there too
What's going to be a four but I kinda got bored
Another album where I'm having trouble getting past the lead vocals. Not for me.
I couldn't finish, is not that is bad but not my type of music.
Some very famous songs and some filler. Like the Byrds, not many bands sound like the 60s like CCR do. Good album.
I feel like my appreciation of CCR only really goes as far as hearing them in film soundtracks. This is maybe the first time I've listened to a full album by them. Overall I enjoyed this - probably not enough to put in the regular rotation - but I can't deny they're really talented and crafted some great songs.
Off the cuff remark: 2 Creedence albums in this "list" not convinced that's warranted. It's all fine and southern but doesn't move me greatly. Standout track: Bad Moon Rising, a great song, helped along by my introduction to it through the wonderful American Werewolf in London Revisit?: happily go back to Bad Moon but the rest I can take or leave.
not bad, not exactly compelling though. right on the edge of 2/3 some would call that 2.5
Nice energy, enjoyable in the background.
Enjoyable classic rock. I liked it. Most of the tracks didn’t stand out to me, but weren’t bad at all. I’ve always liked CCR’s hits, and the hits are here, but nothing else really grabbed my attention. Still enjoy my time here though.
The night time is the right time definitivno vuče ka roku i bluzu u poređenju sa prvom trećinom albuma koja je all about folk. Sviđa mi se lyrics “Baby, I said baby, Baby, come on and drive me crazy, Lord You know I love you; always thinking of you” malo je sexyy i sam deliver nije cheesy. Glory Be je FENOMENALAN demo zbog basa, gitare i bubnjeva.
It’s just CCR
1969 var et ret vildt år for CCR! Lyder fed!
I personally think that, at this point, CCR's output had settled into a style that people either like or don't. However, it doesn't have the same impact as the earlier albums. Therefore, I personally don't think this albums should be on this list. It's fine. I have never been a fan, but I have nothing against the music, and I understand why some people really like it. I'd probably give it a 3.5.
I’m not sure if we are suppose to worship CCR. This was a good album though
The songwriting on this album isn’t anything special (basic blues progressions) and the playing by the band is second rate compared to many of their contemporaries, but they’ve got a classic charming sound
Really love Creedence to a strange degree, given my relationship to rock in general. Don't love this one quite as much as Bayou Country, but it's still amazing.
A strong album, but one that I don’t really resonate with. California boys playing bayou tunes just reeks of stolen valor to me, and their influence is so strong that the record seems derivative in many ways. That’s the Seinfeld effect, I guess. The title track is still the best song ever written about Putah Creek.
Sublime swampy rock marred by a few filler tracks. I loved Lodi and Wrote a Song for Everyone.
this is an interesting album, definitely didn't hate it. some excellent songs, maybe not an album i'll come back to but certainly will come back to some of the songs.
Not bad, couldn’t get the Vietnam out of my head and couldn’t understand like half the words but it sounded good
Solid work. Very familiar with their better known songs, but hadn't listened to a lot of their deeper cuts. This album sounds like classic CCR. One might wish they mixed up tempo a little bit from time to time, but it's pretty enjoyable.
I already like this band for the hits. The other tracks were fine but not memorable.
really american rock and roll. not my style but it was a fun album to start the day with
Green River will be my final CCR album to review. I like quite a few of CCR's songs, but so far, I haven't really loved listening to any of their whole albums. I gave three stars to each of their other two albums, and I expect that I'll probably feel the same about this effort as well. I know a couple of songs on here, but everything else will be new to me. Let's go do down to Green River! As I expected, Green River was a fine album. I like CCR's overall sound on their albums, and this album was no exception to that. CCR's guitar playing is really unique, and creates an atmosphere that's so reminiscent of the gulf coast, that I almost feel humidity on my skin when I listen to them. I'm really fond of John Fogerty's vocals as well, which has held true on all three of their albums that I've reviewed. However, outside of the title track and "Bad Moon Rising", Green River doesn't offer anything else other than a general vibe that I find pleasant and enjoyable. I didn't find the songwriting on this album particularly noteworthy, and outside of the guitars and vocals, the music was pretty ho-hum. But the two tracks I mentioned earlier are absolutely fantastic. "Green River" starts off with an excellent guitar riff, and John Fogerty's opening 'weeeeelllll' sets the tone for this album perfectly. There's just something ominous in Fogerty's vocals that I love. The same goes for "Bad Moon Rising." That guitar riff is instantly recognizable, and Fogerty's vocals are perfect. For a song about impending disaster, it's awfully jaunty and optimistic in its sound, serving as an apt metaphor for the end of the sixties and the start of the Nixon years. I'll always associate "Bad Moon Rising" with An American Werewolf in London, which isn't a bad thing at all, because it was the perfect song for that transformation scene. If I had to pick a favorite CCR album from the ones I've reviewed, I'd give a slight edge to Cosmo's Factory, which has my favorite CCR song on it, "Up Around The Bend." And the fact the appearance of one song would determine my favorite CCR song is appropriate, because for my money, I'd rather listen to their greatest hits than any of their regular albums.
Not really my thing, but I can appreciate it. It gets three stars because of bad moon rising. I guess they got tired of singing with the last two tracks.
Good Cleerence
Fav: Bad Moon Rising Least Fav: Sinister Purpose Should just be called ‘Bad Moon Rising and some other songs that are ok at best’
Classic but only one really good song
Classic rock at it’s most classic - standout tracks: Green River and Bad Moon Rising are impeccable, rest of the album is strong, but even though it’s short it does feel a little repetitive by the end of the record.
was only familiar with couple tracks on this album. flows together well. classic southern rock sound & guitar work is well done. about 30 minutes of vocals is all I can comfortably take so this was great.
Nice blues. Really like the lead singers voice
Pretty good blues rock
Great album
Not bad, but not my favorite CCR album. Bad Moon Rising is probably the main reason this was on the list.
John Fogerty apparently thought CCR could be the next Beatles when those four imploded. And I never had a girlfriend who’s dads name is John. Good music for driving and karaoke.
I ovo zvuči previše američki ali nije strašno nepodnošljivo, pogotovo jer traje manje od pola sata.
Pretty standard southern rock tbh, nothing that really stood out to me just what you would expect from a Creedence album, guitars were good though. Favourites: tombstone shadow and the two instrumentals at the end. I really like the album cover as well. Overall, 5/10.
Proper feel good roots rock music. CCR has got a very unique band sound where everyone plays to their strengths and knows how to contribute to the band sound together. There are loads of bands I really dislike in this roots category, but CCR is definitely from the better end of the spectre.
Keep it simple stupid, that what. this album states. I also think it does it also rather well and also on the way that it was expected. Only song that more or less surprised me was the track Sinister Purpose, hard to say why it caught me off guard but it did.
While I'm quite unsure how actualy rock 'n roll this album is, I do like most of the tracks. A lot is to do with Fogerty's singing and the overall bluesy vibe of the album. Great playing tho. The music is very folkey and country, nearly enough to annoy me, but with a healthy dash of blues to ease the issue.
warm and funky
I think it was good but also I got distracted and took a week to come back, so it can't have been *that* good.
Pretty cool 60s rock.
Helt solid Southern / Swamp Rock album int den bästa ccr plattan
Classic
This kinda music scratches a part of my brain, pretty good but all sounds very similar
This is some pretty classic CCR. I adore this band and this album makes a good soundtrack to a lot of my life. That said, this list is too short to have the same band have more than one album on it unless it is ~exceptional~. And this album is not CCR's exceptional one. Cosmo's Factory was WAY better. It gets 4/5 stars for musicality, and only 3 stars for this list because I'm harder on bands that have >1 album.
In the mountains realm of the American soul. We're crawling through the bush's, pursuing the sound of the river. Blood dimmed leaves and dark deamed faces. I see the moon in the blue noon sky, wrecking fortunes. Great atmosphere and style. Hindered by my personal taste.
98/1089 - Read that they vowed to not do drugs or alcohol... Nice, that's rare in rock music. The music itself dosen't "ramble" like they mention in their interviews but also doesn't go anywhere either. Voice was a little annoying at first but I got used to it.
Classic album nothing top level in song or feel of the album but solid.
The problem with CCR is that all the songs blend into each other so much - it's decent enough blues rock, but it's all the same blues rock. Sure, the singles stand out because you've already heard them 300 times in your life, but apart from that I can't remember one of these songs as an actual song instead of a homogeneous much of down-home good-ole-boy rockin'... I can't give it a bad score, as I enjoyed it, but I can't give it a good score, as it's just the same album as any other CCR one. They were only around for like four years, how much innovation could there have been to warrant three albums on this list?
i see a bad moooon rising
I really like the light on the album cover. It looks very peaceful
Groovy
Typical Creedence
Pretty cliched american, in my view, but very enjoyably so
Good stuff but only 29 min long!
Ashamed to admit I have never sat and listened to a full CCR album start to finish. They would be high on a list of bands that I love what I have heard but have not really explored.
I-IV-V for 40 minutes. I wish I'd given a mid sonic youth album more points. At least something happens there. Obviously this is well done and unchallenging but that makes it hard to love it.
Solid stuff, they have a good collective sound but only one major hit on here so it stays a 3.4/5 Fav song: bad moon rising
Didn't listen completely, but solid songs
I like CCR, but this isn't their best album by far.
it alr ig. i got excited when i saw the swamp rock tag i thought shit was gonna sound like an alligator on jet ski with sick ass sunglasses. idk what that would sound but that's what i envisioned. im disappointed that it didn't live up to that
Not the most graceful album, but a fun hang. The sound is raw and visceral, though at times messy. "Lodi" and "Green River" are highlights. Overall, a solid album with a gritty, driving sound.
Cool stuff. Kinda nice actually.
I feel an earth wind a blowing up a three as I sedate myself w a nice beer
Solid bluesy rock, v short, doesn't outstay it's welcome
Not bad
I like how the genre simply says "Rock". You look at the cover and this is exactly what you get. Some late 60s/early 70s boys playing simple classic Rock songs well.
Solid car album
Not their best I guess so far
That's not my taste in music - But ok
I don't really have any thoughts on this one. It was enjoyable but the songs kind of blended together by the end.
Pretty good
Sometimes the artist surprises me. Can say half way through that isn’t going to happen with CCR. That’s not a bad thing. They’re solid.
Not that inspiring
Have you ever seen the rain.
CCR, straight blues, straight rock. It's not my preferred album, though a song like Sinister Purpose sounds ahead of its time.
I love thiis kind of nice blues songs but some of them such as Bad Moodn Rison, LOdi or Cross tie are too "country music" for me.
the album is so-so, and sometimes there are good rhythm & good vibes, but thanks to "bad moon rising" it reaches the 3rd star
CCR were Leftist Southerners from the US—just for that, they’re exceptional. The band’s music is easy to listen to, surprisingly groovy, socially conscious, and warm like a good wood fire in winter. They didn’t invent anything new and this might also not be their finest work but what they do, they do wel,l it rocks and it is soulful.
Hits like Green River, Commotion, Bad Moon, and Lodi are woven together with a few decent B side cuts and make for some good story telling. Felt like I was transported to the Bayou for a brief half hour with this listen. The Fogarty Brothers put their signature on that early swamp rock sound, and they got plenty of air time throughout the 70s because of it. You’ll be hearing more from them before the 1001 List is done. (3.3*s)
Another decent showing from the Bayou Boys. "Green River" has some classics and is sticks to there unique folkie rock sound. Like the summary, I can't say much more about it...it's their 3rd album and it's a good one...2.95. Thinking we may get too many from CCR on the list though.
Relatively short, straight to the point, southern/bayou rock songs with just enough twang to differentiate them from other acts. CCR quickly figured out a formula that works. Fogerty gets it done again with a pretty solid album. A couple of their best songs appear and the deep cuts are more of the same reliability you expect. Crazy to think they were prolific enough to pump out 3 albums in a single year, each that had a couple of singles/hits. Liked this one a bit more than Bayou Country. 3.13 stars
Nice timbres, and really nice tunes. While it does get old soon, but some songs really stand out and keep the energy.
Historically, I have found Creedence Clearwater Revival annoying and a chore to listen to. This album however is slowly changing my opinion. The first listen went by in a flash. Part of the beauty of this album is its brevity. Kicks out 9 songs in 29 minutes and it's over. The sequencing of tracks is notable as well. I generally dislike "Bad Moon Rising" as a radio hit, but in the context of the album I honestly don't mind it. I was surprised by some of the driving rhythms and hard edges of some of their songs. For once, John Fogerty's voice didn't bother me. All in all, enjoyable album. Maybe there's hope for CCR in my future.
This was good, very nostalgic of Florida and the bars there tha played this kind of music. Not my favorite but it brought up some memories. Could t help but notice how bluesy it is and how appropriation-y that is.
It was fine. Great for certain situations, namely the Vietnam War or cookouts. I liked Night Time Is The Right Time in addition to the hits everyone knows. I can't say it's that strong an album as an art piece. It doesn't feel like a strong narrative or direction. It's a collection of pretty good blues rock songs.
Didn’t really offer anything new to the CCR sphere. Don’t hate to tho. Not something I’d throw on, but if it’s 4th of July weekend, outside, aviators, smoking beers and drinking cigs, CCR starts playing… I’d be vibing
Besides the all-time classic "Bad Moon Rising" and "Lodi" it's just solid, good old (southern) rock for me.
Not a fan of CCR really, nothing really special for me. Classic bluesy rock, which I would normally love, but it’s got a country vibe to it. Sorry, very mid for me. It was listenable, that’s it.
Meh
No surprises on this album. It is a sound I've heard my whole life. It's good, but it doesn't hit that hard for me.
I found this quite boring actually. Sounds generic.
I'm not going to find anything new to say about CCR that hasn't already been said. I'll leave it at that. Highlight(s): Wrote a Song for Everyone/Sinister Purpose Lowlight(s): Night Time is the Right Time
Some groovy songs here! "Bad moon rising", is great of course. 3,7/5
Decent album, a solid vibe throughout but no special songs besides Bad Moon Rising
point6.
Nice for country drive. Good feeling. Felt a bit straightforward.
CCR doing what they do.
Good ol’ late sixties early seventies plodding rock with a bit of the blues. Sounds southern but it’s Northern California. You know it’s Creedence when John starts singing.
It’s a CCR album. They all sound the same. Excellent, but once you’ve heard one you’ve heard them all. Not surprising given the rate of output over a short time period. My bugbear is why so many of them if they sound the same. Get some other artists in the mix instead.
Classic rock album. I do enjoy John Fogerty's voice, and it's hard not to tap your toe along to the music. While not an album I would pick out to play on my own, I'm never sorry to hear their hits played. There's not a whole lot of variation from song to song, but they do have a distinct sound.
It was fine. A lot of songs felt the same. You listen to one CCR song you've listened to them all.
Mostly kinda boring, but Bad Moon Rising is a tune.
Not my favorite sound, but some iconic songs.
I wouldn't say it's banger after banger, but it's a good album. You can definitely see where a lot of other acts took inspiration from CCR and John Fogerty to build their own sound. Got to hear a few of the CCR standbys as well as some other songs that were good. My Rating: 3/5
Okay. Bad moon rising great. Loved it when it made me feel like i was in a country western American bar doing barn dancing.
3.5
I'm somehow always pleasantly surprised by CCR. I don't know why because they always sound exactly like I expect them to, but for whatever reason I never think I'm going to like them. Anyway, this was a solid album. More country sounding than I expected, but enjoyable. It didn't overstay its welcome or start to sound too same-y to me.
green river- 5 or 6 commotion- 6 tombstone shadow- 5 wrote a song for everyone- 5 bad moon rising- 5 lodi- 5 cross tide water- 5 sinister purpose- 6 the night time is the right time- 5
All these years later and I still find them lacking. Can’t put my finger on it.
I liked it. Not a lot, but I liked it.
Enjoyable but a little samey
Enjoyed this but one song was annoying
3.5/5
Bof je trouve pas trop mon style
Standout is of course Bad Moon Rising, but there are some fine tunes on this one.
There are a couple classic songs on the album, but I found it very uneven. I know CCR and this album are highly regarded by many. I just feel that there were a lot of bands in this era and genre that were better (The Band, Allmans, Skynyrd, etc).
The only problem with the sheer likability of CCR, borne out of their distinctive sound (John Fogerty’s voice, hello 😍), is that you will be tricked into thinking that singing Bad Moon Rising at karaoke is a good idea. It was not.
Definitely some rocking songs on this album, but not an album that's going to stay with me. Green River is a standout and an amazing first song to kick off. Overall enjoyed the ride, but won't be returning.
The opening track welcomed me into this album, and once the guitar rang on the second track “Commotion” I was extremely excited and interested. However the remaining of the album is slightly disappointing. The energy was lost slightly.
Solid album, I like CCR. I know the hits but writing this rating a day later I can’t say I actually remember any of the other songs. Maybe that says more about me or the fact that I’ve usually got these on while working. Still a solid 3 stars probably should be a 4.
Didn’t know they had a version of The Night Time is the Right Time.
Just give us the greatest hits. Nearly every single they did was a banger. And this album’s singles are just *chefs kiss*. Nearly every album track is a dirge. So give us the singles and let’s rock out to that.
If you *must* listen to 70s rock, you can absolutely do worse. I kind of like it for what it is. It gets too southern rock at points, and there is a corny song or two, but overall, it’s pretty decent. That said, it’s a 30 minute, 9 song album. There’s no fat to trim, so 1-2 corny songs can easily knock a star off.
Powerful start - love Green River. The rest of the album didn't feel too wild. Bad Moon Rising is a classic.
- Has a smoother cohesion than another CCR record I already reviewed ("Cosmo's Factory"), though I was more impressed by the individual tracks on that one. - The middle third, "Wrote A Song For Everyone," "Bad Moon Rising," and "Lodi," is superb; about as good as it gets. But I was less pulled in by the rest.
Really, if you've heard one CCR album, you've heard 'em all. As I said for my review for Cosmo's Factory, 5 stars for the work ethic, but 1 star for country-rock-blues.
Didn’t blow me away but it’s really good. Love the swampy, blush, garage sound. 3/5
my 2nd CCR album in this project and the 2nd CCR album that failed to do anything for me. it's not bad it's just there
3.5
Very sameish sixties swamp rock. Green River running a little dry on this one. Bad Moon Rising is a classic that you’ve probably heard a million times anyway but everything else basically sounds like the same song all sung by the Rich Texan guy from The Simpsons.
Cultural staple from the 60s - but not really my jam. I find John Fogerty’s voice/affectation to be kind of annoying.
I mean it's fine.
El cerrito Cali rock band! Lodi mentioned! V nice overall to play in the mornings when I'm not processing too much
Fun vibes, evocative of an interesting era
Not bad. The only song I knew from this album was “Bad Moon Rising” which is fire. The rest of the album didn’t live up to that but was fine. Best (new) track: Lodi
Few good songs but started to sound samey after a while
'tis stanky.
nah
3/5 Okay - Favourite song was Broken Spoke Shuffle
ok
Good CCR.
