Previously listened to: Cosmo's Factory (5/5) ************************ This album is what I'd call comfort music. It's familiar, relaxing, goes down easy. Not as good as Cosmo's Factory. There are no extended jam sessions as they have an other albums. Every track is under five minutes. Still, I could put this on any time and enjoy it. Best track: Bad Moon Rising
Great intro with songs I knew. Touched on Vietnam and disenfranchised. CCR rocks
Bad Moon Rising all time great song. Concise 29 minutes. Classic time piece of culture. CCR!
better than I was expecting. Bad Moon on the Rise is awesome.
Nice classic jamming, great to vibe to even if it is a little samey.
awesome!
I liked this. I wonder how much of that is some sort of historical cultural tourism where I associate this sound with cool 60s/70s movies. I dunno, but I liked it. Standout track: Green River
Good blend of folk, blues, and rock. Leans very heavily on the rock though. I really enjoy a lot of this band's stuff. A low 4/5
Mountain driving
This album brings back some great memories for me. I feel like this is a good example of a great southern rock album.
Classic album with some great hits. Sinister Purpose is a really underrated gem
Strong intro note. Basslines set the songs vibe. Lots of ummm pa back and forths. Slow songs followed by peppy.
Groovy baby. Some great guitars. Love foggertys voice.
these guys always bring the vibes
Pretty good, and what a way to start this effort. 9/24/23 start date.
4/5 all bangers felt like movie “old music” big fan would come back.
The hits are hits for a reason, but the album cuts didn't impress much.
1.Sounds like classic chord progressions for country-ish rocky driven songs, not my go to genres but definitely a good listen and good songs 2. Great bass line and riff and drum beat great example of double time beat. thoughts: interesting choice of album cause it doesn't have any of the main hits by CCR so i discovered a lot of new songs. good songs overall but not the most exciting, quite a common and very heard sound nowadays. 4. Slower swung song, i liked this one a lot, very sweet intro as well. very countryish, feels less bluesey. It constantly feels with the drum fill before the chorus like they're gonna pick it up and either modulate or at least go double time, but hasn't happened yet. 5. More classic but the joyful train beat there with the guitar line makes it much more rockabilly like. Sinister purpose: strong Hendrix vibe in there both with the changes and more itnense drum fills and effects on the voice, strong reminder the album is from 1969. Love this one. Night time is the right time: Pure blues here with awesome BVs love that one. Thoughts: the album is pretty short so it's a great pick to hit instantly that vibe and have a perfect playlist of these songs, i can hear Kurt Cobain's voice and accent in there slightly which changed my way of hearing it. Because the album is short though i'm left wanting to hear the second album already, but i guess i'll hear more CCR to stay in today's theme. As a drummer this album seems like a go to to learn train beats along with some appropriate fills. I think it's good for what it tries to do but very unsurprising still and not something i'd keep playing again and again
Loved
13th September 2023 Listened in the day while driving to and from Stroud for peek a boo. Dad came to fix radiator. Love a bit of Creedance, very underrated band.
I like CCR, and this album certainly had a lot of good songs on it. Wasn't blown away by it but an enjoyable listen.
HL: title track, "Wrote a Song...", "Lodi", "Bad Moon Rising", "Night Time..." If there's one bad thing I can say about CCR, it's that the songs on the albums (7 in 4 years, that's insane >:o) are sometimes interchangeable. Would any of these songs sound out of place on Willie & the Poor Boys, or Cosmo's Factory? Probably not Then again, the songs are so consistently enjoyable that I don't care that much. A big ole chicken pot pie of a record September 8, 2023
Solid. Rating: 4.5
It was a chill album and I enjoyed listening to it
Another nostalgia album. Listened to it a lot growing up and still do Probably my favorite of the "nostalgia" albums so far
Classic. I enjoyed it
great album to listen to.
There were some forgettable songs on there but a lot of gems!
Dang! That twang! Some of the lesser known tracks I liked were commotion and tombstone shadow.
Great album
Nice album!
They keep it simple but they make it work
Classic CCR! What an amazing record!
Good tunes!
Enjoyed listening. Favorite song was Lodi. Never appreciated CCR until recently.
Another great blues rock album from CCR. Includes their hits "Green River" and the timeless classic "Bad Moon Rising".
Nice 60's rock. Exactly what I expect out of CCR. No true standout gems.
In 1981 the iconic American Werewolf in London film was released with revolutionary award winning gory makeup.... and also a pretty decent soundtrack which hailed back to the late 60s when John Landis originally wrote the script for the film. Anyway, why do I open with this? It's because the comedic horror film soundtrack was my first introduction to Creedence Clearwater Revival through the awesome track Bad Moon Rising, just as the lead character David was about to turn into a werewolf for the first time. It's wee gem experiences/memories like this that introduce us to previous eras of music that you may otherwise have missed out on. This album is packed with many great bluesy rock tracks, which I enjoyed and would happily listen to over again... I'm also quite partial to playing Bad Moon Rising on acoustic guitar, quite an easy track to play.
the greatness of CCR, swamp rock in all its delicious glory. john fogerty and the boys really bring it with this one. this album also contains an excellent cover of blues standard “the night time is the right time”. highlights: “green river”, “bad moon rising”, “lodi”, “the night time is the right time”.
This is an album of straight hits. Fully solid.
CCR is so darn great. No complaints here.
Outstanding Album
Favourite song: Lodi
I get it, if you want some sunday porch music that could practically bring the river to your backyard....put this on!
Jaa heerlijk! Dit is echt fijne muziek. Had al drie van de nummers in de favorieten staan, dus dat ging lekker
Good stuff. The cover of "The Night Time Is the Right Time" was a surprising and enjoyable way to wrap up the album.
This is the Creedence album I've heard before but I actually liked Cosmo's Factory more than this one. It's still a good album and a great example of classic American rock.
Mi aspettavo di più sinceramente. Con 'Lodi' migliora di brutto
A short but very effective, effortless and an overall enjoyable roots rock album. I loved it!
Another strong set of songs from CCR.
green river follows bayou country, which i've also listened to as part of this project. CCR honed in on that swamp rock sound, huh? it's a remarkably easy (swampy?) album to lose yourself in. "bad moon rising" has to be one of my favorite classic rock songs. it's got such a good hook, and i can't resist singing incorrect lyrics. like most albums with huge hits, "bad moon rising" does overshadow the other songs. sometimes the other songs can be forgettable and not noteworthy, but that's not the case here. fact is, "bad moon rising" is just that good! the rest of the album can hold its own. some songs like "cross-tie walker" or "commotion" are unusually peppy for CCR, but they still contain that usual twang of swamp rock that connects the whole album. "sinister purpose" has a different tone but it's delightfully disquieting. green river is definitely an album that contains distinct songs yet it flows quite well. 3.5
It really is amazing that Creedence Clearwater Revival tapped into such a winning formula and then released three subsequent albums around it, with "Green River" being the second among them. Seeing as it was recorded and released not long after the outstanding "Bayou Country", "Green River" certainly feels like its spiritual successor. This album contains more of the same kind of outstanding swamp rock that made this band so unique and great. They just continue to utilize and perfect their signature sound here. I don't have much more to say that I didn't already say in my "Bayou Country" review. Again, just more of the same great stuff, maybe even slightly better!
I really enjoy albums from this run by CCR. Just solid music all around. 3.5/5
Cool sound
Highlights: Bad Moon Rising, Green River Leave Em's: Wrote a Song For Everyone, Cross-Tie Walker Overall Thoughts: Just classic rock music out of this album. Their country orientation throughout made the album more appealing then some other soft rock explicit records from the time. My one negative comment is that the songs start to sound a little too similar towards the back end of listening, however as someone who enjoys the sound and content that they are delivering I am okay with that shortcoming. My leave em's for this album were really just the songs that I liked the least of the nine. Maybe they could have cut it down to seven or so essential tracks, but I think Wrote a Song For Everyone does deliver a needed break from the fast paced album. I could use this album as background music for a car show or anytime I would like to be transported to 1969. Score Breakdown: 3.911 & 4 -> 3.956
Another classic. This is just a great band and I love how their albums have no fluff.
Great album from start to finish.
Great record. Very unique voice and fun songs all around to listen to.
Top 3 Songs: 1 - Green River (1) 2 - Bad Moon Rising (5) 3 - Lodi (6)
Creedence er bra og holder seg godt, selv i 2023. Kunne vært foruten de tre ekstrasangene på Spotify, men det er ikke del av originalalbumet, så trekker ikke noe for det.
Such a good album with so many great songs. My dad had this album.
Mucha reverb, no se entiende la letraaa kdicee
buenísimo pero en un momento me aburrí
Te lleva a otro tiempo y local.
Yeah, alright.
There's a couple of stand out tracks on this. I'd love to say that the album gripped me with its brilliance, but it didn't.
Awesome early folk-rock
Three albums in a year? Amazing. Not a lost jam in this one.
Good rock and roll music
Good Band - Good Album!
Not every track hits here, but this is a strong rock album from CCR.
Fogerty and CCR certainly forged and cemented their own sound coming out of the late 60s - whether that's to your taste or not probably changes from one person to the next. I do enjoy it though. Fogerty's simple songwriting, raw and soulful vocals, and catchy melodic rock stylings on this record are maybe only bested here by 'Cosmo's Factory', another album I hope they've put on this list. It's maybe on the daggier end of things and a few tracks a bit samey, but it’s still solid. Fave track: Lodi
Folk and rock blended together. Surprisingly good combo (esp as I’m not big into folk) Saved tracks: Green River, Lodi, Sinister Purpose, Green River/Suzie Q
Not so bad. Need to come back later one more time.
Instant classic. You can't not enjoy it*** My favorite tracks were Tombstone Shadow, Sinister Purpose, and Broken Spoke Shuffle. ***Unless you hate fun ;)

Good old CCR
man I got this the day before "Hotel California" and did not like that but I would file a crime report for some stolen Credence, The Dude is DOUBLE RIGHT
Ist halt absolute Soundtrack Musik
A year or so ago, I listened to “Cosmo’s Factory” by Creedence Clearwater Revival for the first time, and absolutely loved it. So expectations were astronomically high coming to “Green River”, which the band released the year before (one of their THREE 1969 albums!) After expecting it to be as good or better than what I’d already heard, I was a little disappointed on first listen. The songs were good and the performances were strong, but there was nothing to jump out and grip me beyond a solid execution of standard-sounding blues rock. But, once I realised it was unfair to rate the whole album according to how much more I liked something else by the same band, I settled into the “Green River” rhythm a lot more. The middle section of the album was my favourite: “Wrote a Song for Everyone” and “Lodi” are both excellent balances of melancholia and crisp, shining melodies, so familiar it feels as though I’ve known them all my life. “Bad Moon Rising” is the obvious hit here, surrendering to gleeful desolation. Later, even though it’s a cover, the closing rendition of “The Night Time is the Right Time” is stacked with so much raw power that it’s impossible not to be won over. Perhaps my favourite version of this song I’ve heard. Ultimately, this is a 4 rounded up from a 7 as “Cosmo’s” was a 4 rounded down from a 9. The more I’ve listened, the more I’m realising “run of the mill” is just as much a reason to praise “Green River” as it is to deride it. Even though it’s a little basic, “Cross-Tie Walker” is effortlessly evocative and passionate. “Tombstone Shadow” might just be a 12-bar blues, but it’s still tough and muscular: dig that chewy lead guitar part. It’s useless to deny the fact that during this time, John Fogerty was a songwriting tap that just couldn’t be turned off, and here his music flows down the Green River into the ocean of great American songs.
I don't know if I've directly heard a lot of these songs, but they have such a classic nostalgic feel to them, probably because of the friend I had back in the day who loved CCR. It's not quite the kind of music I typically like, but "Sinister Purpose" is actually quite nice! I'd totally jam to that in the future. 4/5
Nice album
Lodi and Bad Moon Rising are ethereal. Everything else is damn good.
The second CCR album I've had already. And the second one I've really enjoyed. There's lots to like in this bluesy rocky earthy sort of stuff and this is going to be something I'll listen to again - and I'll have to work my way through the catalogue of other stuff because not all of it is on this list.
Loved it. I've liked credence for a long time though, so no surprise I already knew most of the album.
Is good
Another classic CCR
Great classic rock album
Ahh, Creedence. Maybe not quite as many bangers here as on Cosmo's Factory, but Lodi is one of my favorites. Not to mention Bad Moon Rising. Very close to a 5, but I'm gonna lean harsh. 🤷
Entraînant, riffs et mélodies réussis
A tight 29 minutes of rock and roll CCR style
Chyba kolejny ich krazek na liscie, jesli istnieje swampowa trylogia w dyskografii ccr, to bedzie wlasnie srodek tej trylogii, ktory wydaje mi sie jakos mniej sluchany niz dwie pozostale plyty, ale ktory jednak zawiera bad moon rising, czyli klasyczny kawalek, ktory jakos zawsze kojarzy mi sie z wojennymi klimatami
Nice classic rock band sound
Great classic rock and roll album. Creedence Clearwater Revival has such a recognizable sound. There is not a bad track on this album. My only complaint and what is keeping it from a perfect score is it’s runtime, it is too short.
Bien amigable para escuchar trabajando
Like a lot
You really can’t go wrong with CCR in their prime. I prefer their follow up, but that album ran after this one walked. Just a perfect 30 minutes of music, all killer no filler. Music for blue collar people by blue collar people, something that seems to be dying with every passing year.
This is so quintessentially southern. It's incredible these guys arent from the south like at all. Wrote a Song For Everyone is so profoundly sad to me. To dive into work and insist on communicating these big ideas to the world because you cant bear to discuss your failing marriage with your wife. That's tough. Such a soul bearing tune. This album has so many bops. Goddamn i love ccr. And also 9 songs at a tight 30 minutes. These boys were professionals. The disparity between the cheeriness of the music and the doom in the lyrics of Bad Moon to me sort of speak to the anxiety of surely impending doom when things are going well. The lyrics are all predictions of things to come, not sure things. It feels like the paranoia one can feel when everything's going right. Sidenote, Commotion is not that interesting of a social commentary song. Lots of stuff going on but nothing means much (both a description of the song and its thesis statement). A fine song, but nowhere near Fortunate Son (which would come out in their next album literally 3 months later, which is an insane pace).
Swamp rock straight from the swamps of (checks notes… California?). Regardless, 1969 is much earlier than I would have expected CCR to have begun, but Green River is such a fantastic album with chock full of Fogerty originals and an original cover of James Brown's The Night Time is the Right Time to round out a solid performance. 4/5.
pretty good
solid A tier, essential classick rock album
Great blues riffs, good singing. Great album
Epitome of classic rock to me
I have heard most of these songs before but what is most interesting to me are the instrumentals on this album. I really like the instrumental songs. The hits are here too but the other songs I could do without.
Bad Moon Rising is a banger that I am emotionally attached too. I'm not honestly a big fan of this band's vocal styles though. They're hit and miss, for me personally
now in the time life collection with 60 CDs
There are 2-3 songs on this basically everyone know because they are just straight up 🔥. But honestly the whole album is strong, it‘s pretty great.
This is a solid album but lacks some extra pizzazz that would bump it up to five for me. I bet if you’re a CCR fan this is gold, but I’m a little too ambivalent to go above a 4
some really good ccr! it’s one of their better albums, but nothing blew my mind
A solid 4. Quality country/blues, doesn’t get repetitions but is a bit simple at times. Listened multiple times over a weekend without getting bored, a couple of tracks started to stick in my mind.
CCR is always an easy listen. At under half an hour, nine songs, almost half of them stone-cold classics, this is no exception. Even the lesser-known songs here have that familiar CCR sound that grant them an air of familiarity. An album like a hug.
Well good, makes me wanna smoke some bobby and travel back to the 60s baby
CCR is great, and can begin to feel redundant. This was a good album, almost worth of a 5, but more of a high 4.
Listens: 3 Enjoyed: Yeah Fantastic album with great storytelling and I'm a sucker for sad songs made to feel uplifting So close to a 5
The essense of Country Rock. Right here!
Solid, a couple of great classics
Tight simple songs that hit. Lots of classics on this one. CCR once again showing why they have staying power. Four stars
Unique style to play guitar, unique voice, easy to recognize amongst many and very good songs; CCR is worthwhile to revisit from time to time.
Tight little album by CCR with most of the best hits and a few solid tracks you didn't grow up to on the radio. CCR always brings the big Southern rock sound that they pioneered and did so much better than Lynyrd Skynyrd (who suck in the plainest of terms).
Our third from CCR delivers more of that signature southern swamp rock by way of California, just with fewer hits. I don’t think I knew any of these. “Green River” brings more of the same quality, as it was apparently part of an unprecedented two year blitz of stunning musical productivity. Maybe not quite as catchy, and unfortunately John Fogerty’s exaggerated southern accent is still too much at times, but otherwise very solid.
After three albums of CCR, I’m a fan. More than the greatest hits fan that I used to be. Their run of four albums in such a short time (1.5 years) from Bayou Country to Cosmo’s Factory is very good. Their 7 album career would be a 20+ year career for some bands these days. They put out 7 album in less than 4 years. I like the gritty, country, blues guitars with the vocals to match. It’s too bad they couldn’t squash their personal differences.
xd
lurv the vibes- nothing bad to say bout it
This is a great band and a great album. I think this gets forgotten nowadays with the strive for new sounds. If you can rise above any negative connotations and listen to it's confident, fresh and entirely original vibe then it's a treat.
Love it’s sound. Stays in the library. 4 stars out of five….and that’s unheard of.
Never really been interested in ccr but this was a decent album.
best song- bad moon rising
CCR always pleasant to hear, as classic as Stones or Beatles or Doors. This album I prefer over Cosmo's Factory, 4 stars
Great all around, with some peak CCR songs. Still like Cosmos better, but amazing what they put out in such a short amount of time.
It’s 29 minutes of CCR, and has Bad Moon Rising. You know exactly what you’re getting, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
Classic Americana/blues rock. Probably their best record. Side note: CCR released 3 records in 1969! No wonder they outsoles the Beatles that year. Lots of quality cuts were being pushed out in quick succession. Very solid record.
Nice 60’s American folk style. A little past the due date, but still nice to listen to.
Some great songs, short enough that it stays interesting, will definitely come back to this.
I have one of their compilation CDs in the (old) car, so I'm quite partial to this stuff. They pioneered a certain classic rock sound. This is one of the better albums, which, according to Google, they were churning out at an incredible rate. Green River, Bad Moon Rising, and Tombstone Shadow are my favourites.
Had not really heard these guys before but I really liked the bluesy rock style. Definitely will be listening to their other releases. The album flies by in 30mins and I really enjoyed it.
Never listened to a creedence album before but liked the tracks I have heard. This sounded pretty much like I expected it to and I enjoyed it! Green River, Tombstone shadow, bad moon rising and sinister purpose were the highlights
Its hard to rate these CCR alcums. Theres some greatest hits on here. Some tunes that could be on the greatest hits. It feels like a greatest hits - its architecture is so simple
Gran sonido de Creedence aunque ninguna canción me brincó o se me hizo super memorable. 4 suena a mucho, 3 suena a poco. En general es muy buen disco pero algo plano. 3.5 que sube a 4.
I enjoyed it. Not perfect but still great
Love this! Bad moon rising is a banger. Never listened to any of their other stuff and wishing I had. Didn't get the chance to give this my full attention and will listen again. I like the album art a lot, I'd like to go there wherever that is! I love this combination of country rock blues folk etc which isn't too much of any one thing. I will listen more!
Ah it's just so good isn't it. I love CCR. My brother introduced them to me and they remind me of driving together. They're another one which makes me nostalgic for a time I haven't lived in, vintage and not necessarily that polished. Feel good
Twas good, twas fun, I do like CCR
4.5/5 One of the best, most unique, rock bands of the late 60s. Love it.
Love 😍
Great, classic rock album. CCR filled the niche that other California bands from that era left open. Pretty sure I wore out my copy of Chronicle back in the day.
4.5/5
LP
Who doesnt enjoy a spot of CCR?!
Great listen. Nice upbeat music that makes you happy
I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea but I love these guys.
Enjoyed this, thought it’d have had a few of their bigger hits on it but had only heard one track before today
Clássico listen, almoçar ALL songa até great
Great album with some classic songs like 'Green River' and 'Bad Moon Rising'. CCR at its best.
CCR is without a doubt one of the best rock and roll bands of all-time, and you can hear that with this album. I feel it's hard to achieve a better sound than them in the genre, and I feel bad for other rock and roll groups who didn't have a John Fogerty.
Very good album, very easy to listen to
CCR is feel good music. It seems like something you would put on after your last day at a job you hate. You walk out the door, get in your car, put on CCR, and drive out into the countryside on a deserted road on a sunny day and just cruise.
"Bad Moon Rising" was the most popular song on the album. Great vocals and very Americana sounding album. I will say, though, I can't stand the electric guitar a few of the songs. Just kind of ear piercing and almost amateur sounding? 7/10.
this is a classic band that has fans the world over. but apart from bad moon rising i had no frame of reference for understanding what was so unique abt their sound or them as a group. so this was the perfect album for me to give a listen to with ears as fresh as fresh can be. loved listening to this almost as much as i loved looking into CCR and stumbling across the term 'swamp and bayou rock'.
For max
Classic rock is classic. CCR must’ve seemed a juggernaut in 1969. What would’ve come of a decade of them?
If you had asked me before today, I would have placed CCR as more of a 70s band - for some reason they always struck me as a little "crunchy", and as we all know, the 70s have several distinct different musical faces (disco, classic rock, crunchy and whatever the hell Muskrat Love is). But a little digging and listening to this album made me realize that the "crunchy" music I associated with the 70s (that would see a revival in the early nineties) was ACTUALLY mostly a 60s phenom. I mean, who is crunchier than a bunch of muddy hippies using a field in NY as a slip-n'-slide? I say this to preface that this album didn't turn out like I expected it would - I was expecting boot stomping, largely acoustic jams (based again on my erroneous view of the genre and their stereotypical boot-stomping, flannel-wearing, moonshine-swilling appearance). But, it turns out, late 60s hillbillies can ROCK. Several of these songs would have been right at home at Woodstock along side Jimmy Hendrix (and actually, that was the case - it turns out I'm not the only one with a skewed view of the boys from CCR - see here: https://www.chicagotribune.com/entertainment/music/greg-kot/ct-ent-woodstock-creedence-clearwater-revival-0818-20190814-f7fgswmckbhstfm23gvcym6xxi-story.html ); all in all I liked this - I was sad that Fortunate Son wasn't included - it was from another 1969 album - because nothing evokes Forrest and Bubba flying low over the rice fields of Vietnam (rhymes with ham) than some CCR. But respect, CCR - you're more than just a bunch of dirty hippies!
Initial thoughts: very “nostalgic” sound. Use of reverb is strange for this style of music but it works surprisingly well to fill in the gaps. Final thoughts: all of the above still applies, the songs feel a little “samey” and repetitive, however the album was paced well. If it was too much longer it would’ve become an issue. Best song: Commotion, Lodi Worst song: Tombstone Shadow
Calm relaxing album. Pleasant ambient background music. Enjoyed overall but lacks a killer earworm for the first listen. However, no 'bad' songs and I'd happily listen to it again. Would be interested in listening to more by CCR though.
some of their best songs and a few clunkers
John Fogerty, man. What a treasure that dude's song catalogue is. Hard to believe he smashed out so many killer tracks on do many killer albums in just a few years. Real straight down the line songs, but with wicked hooks and that inimitable lion's growl/howl of a voice. One of the great rockers, for sure. This album is tops.
Just so good
CCR gets played so much that my rating has probably only decreased over time. I think the first time I heard them in college I thought they kicked ass. They still do, but less so. Still good.
John Fogerty could sing anything and I’d love it. CCR has a unique sounding vocalist but I also love their bluesy rock n roll sound. Lodi is one of my all time favorite CCR songs!
CCR classic, good stuff
Such a great album. Bluesy with incredible vocals.
Love me some ccr!
A short but sweet collection of river side tracks. Favorites: "Green River", "Wrote A Song For Everyone", "Bad Moon Rising"
The title track is immediately symbolic of the entire record: extremely simplistic, with a different chord only at the end of the third line, continuously repeated riffs, a minimalistic guitar solo, a rustic text full of country town pleasures, an accompaniment that has no frills – but it works. The melodies immediately stick in your head, bobbing along, the voice of Fogerty is honest and superb, the band swings and the overall sound is somewhere between rock and rockabilly, with a little less blues and a bit more country than on earlier albums.
Listened Before? N CCR was truly great as far as southern rock and blues fusion goes. John Fogerty had the perfect voice, and his voice added power and life to songs that otherwise wouldn't have been very exciting. This is a great record. Added to Library? N Songs added to Playlist: Lodi, Tombstone Shadow
Fogerty is always good for an album. A few of the songs do start to sound similar, at least in the intros. "Lodi" is probably one of my favorite of their songs, although I guess I did know it wasn't about the town in New Jersey, I secretly wanted to believe it was. Other random thoughts: I never really liked the big hit "Bad Moon Rising," it sounds too simple in comparison to the other songs. "The Night Time Is The Right Time"... Ray Charles does it a heck of a lot better. "Sinister Purpose" man, that is a damn good one. Should have caught on. So there's some good, and some "eh" songs. Still, I enjoy CCR so I can imagine putting this on every now and then, although skipping "Night Time".
A real solid album. I'm starting to learn more about CCR as they continue to show up on this list. Their music was always on in my house growing up but I didn't pay as close attention as now. I couldn't argue if all 5 albums from their 1969 and 1970 stretch made this list (well maybe not the last one). I love the more sombre tunes - Lodi, Wrote a Song for Everyone (might be my favorite). But you also gotta love the more up-tempo tunes - Green River, Commotion (nice bit of angry), Bad Moon Rising, Cross-Tie Walker. And I think they always do a good job of reverence on their remakes - The Night Time is the Right Time. Not quite over the top amazing, but few holes and a solid listen front to back.
I’ve always enjoyed Credence’s ‘raw’ sound. They are a quintessential rock band, and this album is a great example of their swamp-rock sound. It’s easy to just point out the famous tracks (“Green “River” and “Bad Moon Rising”) but take a good listen to the opening guitar on “Commotion” followed by that riff that drives the song. That riff takes you the whole way through. Credit to the rhythm section as well for being able to support both Fogerty brothers on each of the tracks. The Ray Charles cover that closes the album gets that Creedence treatment and although not as raw and raunchy as the original still pulls off a great rendition of it. The whole album is a fun 40-minute romp through the swamp, and I’ll glad that I took the trip.
6/12/2022 - ALBUM #136 Today's Album: "Green River" by Creedence Clearwater Revival - This album was somehow a huge surprise while meeting my expectations pretty perfectly. I had heard about this group through a lot of their big hits like Have You Ever Seen The Rain and Bad Moon Rising and I knew that they were capable of a really great sound, but whenever they got suggested to me I was always hesitant due to the very bluegrass/country aesthetic of their rock music. However, I knew that they were a very talented group deep down and that record pretty much confirmed all of those conflicting view at once. I think that although that hicky sort of aesthetic is present throughout much of the record, it is done in such an appealing way. I think it has a lot to do with the very raw lead vocal performances that edge the line between sounding very country, but having a strong blues-rock edge to it that makes it more exciting to me overall. The production overall has a very raw production to it that helps everything keep a sort of light tanginess that separates them from much of the other bands around at the time. Considering this album came out the same year as Led Zeppelin 1, it does make this album a pretty inferior alternative to the powerhouse of blues-rock Zeppelin's debut album in terms of much of the songwriting, but I think that where Zeppelin exceeds in pure songwriting and performance might, this album thrives much more on having a large range to it, traveling back and forth from really chilled out vibes to more exciting tracks. The guitarwork, specifically in the solos, on this album really stand out as being really well performed and I just admire the improvisational ability as a whole. Overall, this is a really great rock album for it's time and although I don't love all off the instrumental aesthetics, I appreciate the talent that went into such a unique sound, which is really well executed. Give this one a listen if you like any of CCR's hits or just want to dive into their music. Highlights: Green River, Commotion, Tombstone Shadow, Wrote A Song For Everyone, Bad Moon Rising, Lodi, Sinister Purpose, The Night Time Is The Right Time, Broken Spoke Shuffle, Glory Be Score: 8/10 THE bluegrass-rock album
Solid outing by CCR
Very enjoyable to listen to. I think that this is my first time to listen to Swamp Rock.
Solid rock, enjoyed listening to it. "Bad Moon Rising" and "The Night Time is the Right Time"y favourite tracks.
tight as fuck
Much more enjoyable than the earlier one for me. Sometimes mainstream just ticks the boxes 👍
Rating: 7/10 Best songs: Wrote a song for everyone, Bad moon rising, Sinister purpose
Seeing its cover I don’t think I’ve ever heard it in full but I know all of the songs lol My father is a great fan of this band, it brings good memories
4.1 - Solid rock. A few absolute classics. No real fat anywhere on the album - really good listen.
Another great relisten
Music from down at the Bayou: to disagree with Die Hard 4.0, this is classic rock. Lots of good cuts with Bad Moon Rising rising above the rest.
not gonna lie, was kinda scared to listen to this after hearing about the zach curse but it still slapped so worth the potential doom.
Classic songwriting and arrangement. It’s audio comfort food!
Imagine being able to release three albums in one year, and on one album you have Bad Moon Rising and Green River and you still had hit singles on the other 2 albums...hard to wrap your head around in todays music world. CCR is something you can just listen to... there's something about them that seems to hit the right mood somehow every time, happy, sad, angry, the songs seem to work regardless.
Enjoyed more than o thought I would.
Is John Fogerty the father of Alt County? Is it me? You could call this “CCR’s Greatest Hits” and not be wrong. This set is all Killer No Filler. I was totally sold even before “Bathroom On The Right” started playing. Tom, Doug and Stu may have been lousy writers but they sure could play...these tracks all SLAP and the live cuts on this edition ain’t chopped liver either.
I like CCR, and this is a very CCR album. The downside is, the songs all kind of sound a little the same. Green River, Tombstone Shadow, Bad Moon Rising, Lodi all kick ass -- others are more unmemorable, but still decent.
Gutes Album. Klassiker. Vietnam calling.
Love this album
There is just something about Creedence that feels special and pure and unique
They do this stuff well.
Listened to on 3/14/22 4.5/5 Favorite song: bad moon rising, Lodi Genuinely so good - the songs were all great with a few standouts. Turns out rock without drugs may be even better
3/14/22 I really enjoyed this more than I thought it would since it is kinda folksy. As Ben put it “Bad Moon Rising” is a bop. I want to give it a 4.5, but I am going to round down to a 4 because I didn’t add many songs into my playlists. Favorite Song: Bad Moon Rising
I can’t access the hype for them yet, but I got there with springsteen and I know these guys come up again on the list, so got high hopes.
Solid album. Would listen anytime.
I love CCR. This album is easy to listen to in the background while doing other things or something to just listen to by itself while hanging out on the patio.
p163. 1969. 4 stars Classic late 60s 'merican blues-tinged rock. The sound is dated, but you can't argue with the song writing, one of THE great rock voices, the energy, or the simplicity of great music stripped down to bare metal. 4 bangers on the album: Green River, Bad Moon Rising, Lodi, Commotion. 1 star deducted for dated production and filler (Broken Spoke Shuffle, Glory Be). This album is a lesson for all the prog rockers: if you can't say it in a 4 minute song, don't bother saying anything.
Did these guys ever make a bad song??? Despite all odds of my being a CCR fan… 3.5
Love CCR, just a fun album all around
It always slightly surprises me how much I like CCR
It's hard to review a classic. This album is filled with hits that reflect that unique Creedence sound. CCR was both prolific and original. The music holds up very well after 50 some odd years.
Great voice and I loved the big songs like Bad Moon Rising!
looking back - a cali rock band that tries to sound like their from Louisiana is really really bad. it feels like an imposter band. like a weak cover band. the music isn't bad per se, just sounds fake. from wiki: Belying their origins in the East Bay subregion of the San Francisco Bay Area, the band often played in a Southern rock style, with lyrics about bayous, catfish, the Mississippi River and other elements of Southern United States iconography. as a southerner this is what I hate about them
Great stuff - there's always been something special about John Fogerty. He makes unforgettable music that get inside your head and stick.
1969 was an amazing year for John Fogerty. He wrote hit after hit after hit. No exception here. A collection of great songs that is pure rock and roll.
The second CCR album I've been presented, and it was another pleasant surprise. Not sure I'm becoming a big fan or anything, but it's decent stuff for sure. Particularly liked the instrumental tracks near the end.
Awww, CCR. I have to admit I have a bias in favor of this album because my dad likes it and he played it a lot when I was a kid. BUT. I maintain that there are some jams on here that hold up, bias or not. Songwriting is good and for whatever reason this is one of my comfort albums. Fave track: Lodi
Feel good Americana
Nice, old thing
CCR is always good, catchy and simple songs that are always enjoyable. This album however did miss the last bit to propell it to a 5
Southern rock always feels like a misnomer, because the country elements are still on display, but the energy and vocals are very rock & roll. Perhaps, the high profile of Elvis, a truly Southern person, is what made murky the waters of country and rock. In a way, could have a few fingers put on it, whether it be country, country rock, or the ubiquitous designation of Southern Rock. "Bad Moon Rising" the most recognizable on Green River, is certainly catchy with discernible intention. It is a rock song, with country music. Further showing the diversity of CCR between the two genres, we get to "Cross-tie Walker" and it is the song one would expect to hear from a local band performing country at a Southern bingo tournament. Either way, if the mood is country or classic rock Green River by Creedence Clearwater Revival will scratch both itches, and scratch them well.
Lovely album that evokes a time and place that I have never experienced but undoubtedly yearn for.
I wouldn't hold out much hope for the tape deck. Or the Creedence.
CCR on ruvennu tippuu yhä kovempaa iän karttuessa. Ukkoudun.
A mixture of blues and gospel elements accelerated according to the same practice of Proud Mary, Bad Moon Rising, more and more immersed in sinister voodoo nightmares. (7/10) FT: Bad Moon Rising
Very groovy. Some werent a good, but I liked this a lot.
Good tunes, songs start to sound a bit similar.
Another album to cement CCR as the gold standard for swamp rock.
alot of vietnam
Fun to listen during in the background. Good mood music
I don't listen to CCR these days like I did when I was young, but hearing this album again reminds me why I liked them in the first place. Super-catchy riffs and melodies, good steady rhythms, and evokes long stretches of highway in that road-tripping American imagery (might be just me, but that's how I've always heard their music). Other than listening to their music and knowing John Fogerty's name from his later work, I knew very little about the band, so I'm glad I clicked on the Wikipedia entry. This tidbit it particularly interesting to me: ***The band's single-mindedness and work ethic drew the ire of some other San Francisco-based bands, with drummer Doug Clifford recalling to Jeb Wright of Goldmine in 2013, "We went to see the local bands and they were so stoned they weren’t even in tune and they were really terrible...We made a pact on the floor of the Fillmore, right then, where we would do no drugs or alcohol. We decided to get high on the music, or get out of the business." Going against the grain at the times, Creedence eschewed the acid-inspired free-form jams favored by many rock bands, for tightly-structured roots music with an unmistakable rockabilly edge. "I didn't like the idea of those acid-rock, 45-minute guitar solos," Fogerty explained to Uncut's David Cavanagh in 2012. "I thought music should get to the point a little more quickly than that." *** Much as I personally make no judgment on bands who decided to go deep into the very route these guys veered away from, I like the band's contrarian ethos. I imagine it was particularly bold for a Bay Area band in the late 60s/early 70s to make that choice -- even amongst peace-loving hippies, there is still peer pressure (speaking from experience here). Really solid album here. Very tight, well-written, well-performed, catchy, and enjoyable.
Hi: Green River, Wrote a Song for Everyone, Lo: None, really The twangy dive-bar staple swamp rockers CCR were at the peak of their heyday in 1969, and Green River is wall-to-wall greatness, with a well-rounded variety of honky-tonk, blues, ballad, and not a single song about rain. The record opens with the raucous eponymous track, takes a breather around Wrote A Song for Everyone, then picks back up for Bad Moon Rising and finishes the album on a call-and-response high note with The Night Time is the Right Time. It's a well-crafted album that's a might bit too short, which can be forgiven in that CCR dropped 6 albums of better-than-average quality in the span of 2 years.
Really enjoyable listen throughout.
7/10
60's Country Blues/Rock at it's best. CCR were frontrunners in this style of Southern Blues music later championed by so many others, real pioneers. Love "Bad Moon Rising" of course as it is a classic but also the Lennonesque vocals on "The Night Time Is the Right Time" and the Lowell George Influencing slide guitar on "Broken Spoke Shuffle" all round a very very positive addition to anyone's vinyl collection.
CCR rule, dude. As long as it's not called "Mardi Gras," you can be assured an album of theirs will be at least "Really Good." Like this one!
Excellent classic rock album. CCR churned out great music and this album was a prime example. This may be the most complete of their albums having some of their best hits. 8.3/10
I think they have a great sound, still sounds good 50+ years later. I appreciate their political content. Catchy and poignant tunes.
Heel nice, wil ik nog eens beluisteren
More fine swamp rock from these talented musicians. Sign me up. Fantastic sounds, exciting vocals, bluesy, folky, gritty, catchy. Thoroughly enjoyable.
this album had amazing tracks, but some tracks were dull
muy buen álbum, algunas canciones me parecieron mejores que otras pero nada que me dedagradara exactamente. 3.5/5⭐
I always appreciate it when an album is short and isnt full of filler for expanding its runtime. This one is a great example of this. Great songs, a lot more `straight to the point` than Bayou Country. Good album, but its my least favorite of the 3 CCR albums on this list (they all got 4s though)
Classic
Immediately recognizable classic rock tracks all around on this one.
guitarisk rock/country
CCR. Such a specific tentpole band in the classic rock pantheon. Nobody else sounds quite like this, and I think it's the voice. This is a solid album, only one big hit but the rest of it is pretty strong too. Even a blues cover to close things out. Nothing really groundbreaking, but I can imagine hearing "Bad Moon Rising" in 1969 would've been a game-changing moment. Very solid album. Favorite tracks: Bad Moon Rising, Tombstone Shadow, Sinister Purpose, Commotion. Album art: Band photo, but the nature and natural look gives this a nice touch. Pretty much impossible to read the red text on top of the picture though. 4/5
Another amazing CCR album part of their short but incredible stretch over just a little more than two years. Absolutely love the roots rock blend of rockabilly, blues, and country that really did give CCR a distinctive swampy sound. Hifi production with cohesive track listing consisting of easily identifiable vocals and murky imaginative descriptions that sharply contrast with the busy energetic instruments. Perfect opener sums up the Bayou Country / Green Album albums. Not a single bad song. Whereas other artists like Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin were taking a hard rock approach to blues, CCR went for a form that was more true to its original form. That and the atmospheric swamp imagery make CCR stand out. You can let this album play on repeat without tiring of it.
Lots of the iconic songs and some nice ones I wasn't too familiar with. Brilliant
Solid effort from CCR. Lodi is the best song here but the whole album sounds clean and solid.
Klasse!
Super evergreens
Great classic rock with a country flavour. The non-famous tracks held up really well to the classics.
Classic swamp rock. Almost comforting at times. Lodi is super underrated. 7/10 if I could.
3
Songs I liked: "Green River," "Commotion," "Wrote A Song For Everyone," "Bad Moon Rising" "Lodi," "Cross-Tie Walker," and "Sinister Purpose" -"Commotion" is solid. Great intro riff anmd good groove throughout. -"Cross-Tie Walker" and "Sinister Purpose" have solid basslines. The bass is slowly growing on me as I listen more -I added "Broken Spoke Shuffle" and "Glory Be" to my instrumental study playlist -"Bad Moon Rising" and "Commotion" stand out as strong tracks -Overall very nice, just a little slow and lower energy than I prefer. Comparing to "Fortunate Son," which I had heard previously, these don't quite get to the same level
The only thing that keeps this from a 5 is “Wrote A Song For Everyone” which I found absolutely unlistenable especially after how good the first few tracks are. Love the rest of the album though!
Always down for CCR
I like Creedence and always have. Probably because they were featured at the beginning of Twilight Zone The Movie. Regardless, three of their best songs are o here - Green River, Lodi, and Bad Moon Rising. The other ones are good, too, so what can you do?
Some fantastic swamp rock. 8.5/10 Best Tracks: "Green River" "Bad Moon Rising"
Just a really solid slice of Creedence. Some of the tracks are a little samey but there are some stone cold classics on here.
Foot tappingly good
4/5
You know half the songs already. Country rock at its finest. Solid.
Bayou Country, Green River, Willie and the Poor Boys - 1969, Cosmo's Factory, Pendulum - 1970 - Fogerty was a prolific songwriter and recording artist. Next to the Beatles CCR was my favorite band for those two years, with their swampy groove they were completely different from anything I had heard. Suzie Q, Proud Mary, Born on the Bayou and then this album hit. The first time I heard the opening guitar riff of Green River I was hooked! Commotion ( B sIde to Green River), Bad Moon Rising and Lodi (the B side to Commotion)it was crazy. It seemed like a new single hit the radio every few months that year (Proud Mary, Born on the Bayou was release in January with the two singles from this album hit in April and July). Every Album released by CCR was Fogerty upping his game! Down on the Corner w/b side Fortunate Son came out in October 69. Beginning with the release of this album we spent a good chunk of our spare time sitting in my friend Charlie's basement - black light posters all lit up - listening to the 3 albums released that year by CCR. Green River lead right into the prime of CCR's output with Willie and the Poor Boys and Cosmo's Factory. Favorite Songs: Green River, Commotion, Lodi, Bad Moon Rising - 4 out of 5.
A classic album.
CCR produced a lot of masculine/bayou rock in their day, pumping out a lot of albums in a short period of time, but they always felt more like a singles band to me. Their performances are always muscular and filled with emotional intensity, but there are always a few tracks that tend to stand above the rest. For me, Lodi, Sinister Purpose and Bad Moon Rising have always been the trio of songs that have stuck with me. Great record overall. Fav Tracks: Lodi, Sinister Purpose and Bad Moon Rising
This record feel likes the definitive representation of CCR's Louisiana-inspired bayou rock and roll. The performances and production are outstanding and the feel is unassailable. At the same time, I can't help but feel that, for all of its stone-cold classics, this album has a few weak tracks as well that make me reluctant to give it a five. I find myself more drawn to Cosmos' Factory and Willie and the Poor Boys for that reason. Favourite tracks: "Green River", "Commotion", "Lodi", "Bad Moon Rising", "The Night Time is the Right Time"
Enjoy the second part of the album best so far
It's good music, I enjoy listening to CCR. But most of the songs drag out a bit too long without much to keep them interesting. Therefore, not quite good enough for a 5.
the dude abides. good album, teeter totters near the full whack for me, if it had a couple more of the big uns on it'd be up there.
Opgewekte muziek, typisch geluid. Fijn om naar te luisteren.
Already loved this album
Een half uurtje aangename roadtrip muziek.
sounds a lot like john fogerty. somebody should sue
Pure distilled Southern Swamp Rock. Best Tracks: Green River, Wrote a Song for Everyone, Bad Moon Rising,
A lot of hits on this one. The band knows how to play and are very tight.
Amazing guitar rift and lyrics. Captures the 60s very well.
Sounds like a greatest hits album, but it was just a great album from 1969!
8/10 Not really my style but I like it as an album
Good tunes!
.
Enjoyable light weight background music
My sort of roots based county, blues rock n roll music. Can listen to this sort of thing forever. Probably the first album we've had that i didn't already know (other than Bad moon rising) which i love. Highlights: Wrote a song for everyone, Lodi 4/5
Fuck I kinda forgot about this website for a couple days but this album is sexy
4.0 - CCR all day, everyday! (Except their cover of “Heard it Through the Grapevine”)
Another solid album from these guys. John Fogerty was quite prolific. Love the rootsy bayou sound and it's funny that they're from San Fran.
Muy buen disco de rock clásico, con grandes influencias y con un estilo y voz muy fácilmente identificables. Pioneros de un estilo propio. Le ha faltado algo para llegar a ser un disco excelente en todos los sentidos
So good. On the surface the music is fairly meat 'n' potatoes, but there's a real groove and intensity to much of what CCR does that it's infectious. John Fogerty has an amazing voice, of course. And the song 'Green River' is the quintessential swamp rock track. Takes this particular Limey back to the bayou, mentally, at least!
