Reviews (page 11 of 13)

Overplayed on the radio and never got moved or impressed by their sound. Enjoyed Fogertys solo career later though. A lot of my favorite artists have a very identifiable sound, but CCR always sounded the same in every song to me. I've always liked Lodi though. For years I never knew what they were saying. Got to drive through there a few years ago and finally got it! Lucky to get a 3 here just because I'm in the Christmas spirit. 🎅🏻😂☃️🌲

это какой-то кантри рок, меня такое не увлекает(

Oh yeah buddy. I’m about to parachute into ‘Nam. Other than the spectre of sending poor kids to die in the name of fighting *checks notes* communism. Are we sure Vietnam didn’t have any oil? Anyway. Pretty stoked to check out CCR and the fellas. YES. This song rules. It’s in my regular rotation. It’s cool, and not over the top. Jeez I hope this song isn’t about the green river killer though. Sort of makes my celebration during it seem a bit morbid. Another one that is in my “liked” songs. A big ol Commotion. I mean I can’t criticize this, but this was just fine. The country fried ballad. This one sounds like the ending to an Adam Sandler movie somehow. Not for me. ALERT 🚨 CLASSIC inbound. I mean this song is great. What can you say?? I mean that is my job technically. Uhhh more like “good song rising.” Good god. More slow, ballad type beats. Uhh man these are starting to melt together. This review is truly awful today. I suppose the album isn’t gripping me the way I thought it might. A pretty run of the mill song. I guess I could say that about many of these so far. Sinister purpose is pretty decent. The wailing guitars throughout are good. They break up some of the monotony of this one. The white guy blues is usually a big X thrown up, family feud style, but this is rad as hell. Almost psychedelic in spots. Never thought I’d enjoy a white guy blues song. This is a calling/beach song that is played silently from a jeep while you swat away mosquitos. NOT my style. Glory Be? My like Glorified Outro. This thing has some fantastic songs spurred on by an extremely powerful vocalist; however, there is a lot more roll than rock here. Laid back to a fault, CCR produced moments of brilliance on “Green River,” only to be mired in the jungle-esque muck of some mediocre songs. There were diamonds, but there was certainly some rough. This schizophrenic combo of fantastic tracks and throwaway jam tunes make this one a listenable experience that doesn’t reach the heights I had hoped for. 2.5-3 HIGHLIGHTS: Green River, Commotion, Bad Moon Rising, The Night Time is the Right Time

algunos temas muy buenos, ritmos pegadizos

Finally something I haven't listened to yet! Don't really have much to about this one. To me CCR kinda just does one thing but they do it damn well. Hard to dislike this band. Favorite track: Bad Moon Rising (obviously) 3.5/5

This is another really fun album of theirs - I think somehow this sounds more dated than the others we've had, but it's still buzzing with energy and a great listen. Bad Moon Rising is obviously the standout, but none of it's bad really. A very solid 3/5, not miles off a 4.

Nothing touches have you ever seen the rain

Like the other CCR albums, I enjoyed it. I think that might be because I have heard a few of the songs on the Mafia 3 video game soundtrack.

I liked it, short and sweet but it didn't blow me away.

This was fine, but not their best work. Not bad by any means, just not exceptional. 3.1

Excellent album that I have heard many times. Some of the best classic rock in my opinion. Very good lyrics and music. A little bit of twang to put some flavor on it. Definitely a unique band.

I already know the hits from this album, great tunes, never really listened to deep cuts though. Surprised how tinny and unpleasant a lot of the guitar tones are, I guess that's kinda to be expected for 1969. Fogerty's voice was so awesome though. A lot of the songs are pretty damn basic blues tunes, again though, kind of need to put your head in that era to appreciate it. The hits are the hits, other than them, overall not my favorite album, not bad by any means though.

3- Stars (7/15)

Decent - not memorable, but not bad

I like Green River (first track). Bad Moon Rising is probably my second fav but I didn't add. I mean it's alright like-

I don't seem to fully get the experience I expect from CCR. They are playing immensly good music, but somehow I want more from them. It's not bad. But it's a 3rd CCR album from the list and I think I just like the previous ones more. 3.5/5.

Not bad

Of all of the 60s hippy Americana, these guys - with their southern influences and tendency towards raw emotion over stoner-chill - are my favorite. That said, it's still 60s hippy Americana.

Reminds me of the Beatles

Decent/fine/whatever-lukewarmly-positive-adjective-you-wanna-use.

A sweet, quick little album from a band I always enjoy. Nothing in here particularly stood out to me, but it's a fun rock album that I'll certainly revisit. 3/5

Okay. It’s got a banger.

Better than Cosmo's Factory. I'm always surprised that Bad Moon Rising isn't about werewolves.

It started out like whatever white boy blues, then it got fun, then it got whatever again. I may not be in the right mindset for it. It’s short enough that I’ll give it another go right now. I took a nap and it was indeed better. Still can’t separate it from the cliche it has become, but it’s good

I enjoyed most of it, but I'm not really listening to the lyrics. They could be signing about anything. 3.4.

Classic American rock and roll. Very easy listening. Nice twangy guitars. Would I listen again - maybe Would I buy - probably not

They’re a talented group but I can’t buy the New Orleans hillbilly act.

Solid CCR record. Makes me think of eating ribs at a BBQ joint when I hear them.

Great album with bangers and I like their sound.

classical album, but didnt like it much

3 - two great songs but they honestly need the liveliness on bad moon rising for a whole album— or at least for more of it

++: Green River, Commotion, Tombstone Shadow, The Night Time Is the Right Time +: Bad Moon Rising, Lodi, Cross-Tie Walker, Sinister Purpose +-: Wrote a Song for Everyone 7,6/10

So lala

In general, I rather like CCR's sound, and this album does not change that opinion.

solid albeit unenergetic vietnam war music

Swap rock, rockabilly vibes

I thought the album was good, just not quite my thing. I knew Bad Moon Rising, and it’s still great. I didn’t know these guys wrote Suzie Q either. Standouts: Wrote A Song For Everyone, Bad Moon Rising, Sinister Purpose, and Glory Be.

3/5. Short and sweet, very much to the point with every song. Got some great songs on here and there isn't necessarily a bad one here but not all of them are perfect. To be fair, when listening to this, I just kind of have rather been listening to another CCR album, not that these were bad but it's hard not to compare when you've listened to other ones. Still a good album but not something I'm going out of my way to listen to. Best Song: Bad Moon Rising, Green River, Lodi

Some classics

It was fine. They’re not my favorite.

Good not great.

First album. Just learnt the term "swamp blues" which I like the sound of. Pretty chill easy listening. I enjoy the final instrumental track. Reflecting on how ubiquitous American music is, as I consume so much American media despite not being from America. I like the country, folk rock vibe

Solid. Have listened many times over the years. I gave the vinyl to my daughter

Some listenable songs, but quite boring rock to me.

decent

An odd one in that any single track is enjoyable on its own, especially the singles, but taken together as a half hour listening experience they become too samey to distinguish.

Like a bit weedy

3.5 some filler but some of the greatest singles. Lodi will be in my head for a minute

Yep that’s CCR. Prom music for Mississippi in the 70s (2.5/5)

My dad likes it

Decent, but nothing too outstanding to warrant a higher rating. 'Wrote a Song For Everyone' was my personal favourite.

Never been a fan of CCR.

Mér finnst eins og aðrar plötur sem ég hef heyrt með þeim séu betri, lögin hér eru síður eftirminnileg. Þetta er annars það sem það er, flott Americana-rokk. Ekki mitt uppáhald en það má alveg spila það nálægt mér.

I already have a slight issue with multiple albums by the same artist appearing on this list. I don't care if it's The Beatles or whoever. I certainly don't need three CCR records. This band might just be the pinnacle of, "Yeah, I get it."

Everything you've come to expect from the Berkeley bayou boys, nothing more, nothing less.

bad moon rising and lodi were highlights. Pleasant but not the most memorable.

I get that this was really popular and all but it sounds old and a little boring now. Still sounds good but didn't do anything else for me.

Rootsy, swampy, bluesy, soulful, rock album at a lean 33 min. A couple of classic songs in Born on the Bayou and Proud Mary. Forgerty seems to drive the ship and really elevates the band. A loose jammy feel to the music. But other than a handful of moments, nothing really pops here. It’s all fine, but doesn’t seem particularly special. This band has better efforts.

perfect road trip vibes

Overall good folksy rockish album.

I liked it

Third album I've got by these guys, and I just don't get it. Nothing more than super standard rock music of its time. I really don't understand why all their stuff has such high ratings.

"Bad Moon Rising" clearly the standout track here, the rest was all fine folky rock, very American.

Making up for Loretta Lynn and The Flying Butt-Eat-O Brothers, a country influenced album I quite enjoyed. CCR are quite a cliche in themselves since their music appears all the time in everything as a shorthand for regular American folk. But somehow they do maintain a solid originality. They are the older brother from your farm family who went to college but came back angry. They manage to be down-at-home and traditional but also driving and outspoken. I've got a bit of time for them and this is a solid bunch of songs with a few all time classics.

Pretty good. Very CCR.

So much better than I expected it to be. It doesn’t all sound like That One CCR Song like so much of the other album we’ve had did. And nothing boined or toined.

This was better than the other CCR album we had, but it was still kind of a slog. I'm not a fan of the lead vocalist's voice, and I feel like a lot of the songs dragged, but there was no point at which I necessarily really wanted the album to end.

Nice instrumentals, some of those guitar riffs are pretty great.

#306. Not the best Creedence album for sure, but it's not bad. 3/5: decent

A perfectly cromulent record, like most CCR records, although the white boy patois can start to grate. Thankfully it’s also very short.

surprised i didn't love this since i do enjoy most of their like, big hits. might revisit a few songs off of it

Starts out a little week. Has some strong hits (bad moon rising of course) and Jon Fogerty has a powerful voice. Really picks up steam near the end and I can see this being a good album to smoke weed and fuck too (maybe perfrct considering its 29 minute run time). Overall, a decent rock album

The ultimate greatest hits band. Like all of their other albums, there are some magical tracks here alongside good but not great ones.

Maybe my least favorite from the first 5 CCR albums, but always a pleasant listen nonetheless. Only them can pull out major hits out of swamp rock.

It has the CCR growl/voice. It's ok, but all songs sound very similar. 3* because it's enjoyable. Enjoyed: bad moon rising

WHITE PEOPLE!!! YOUR TASTE HAS IMPRESSED ME!!! The first three songs gave me such high hopes and then...track 4 happened. I fear that there is not a lot to say about this album, it was kind of bland, generic, EXTREMELY repetitive (i guess this can be excused as a stylistic feature), but...I liked it? I have instrument bias and the tone of this guitar is absolutely bonkers. The guitar and bass carried this entire album for me. I will admit there were some truly awful tracks that are messy and unenjoyable (@ WROTE A SONG FOR EVERYONE!!!! AND THE NIGHT TIME IS THE RIGHT TIME!!!!) but the highlights for me were Commotion, Lodi and maaayyybe Sinister Purpose (Bad Moon Rising is NOT included, more like MID Moon Rising) The voices are telling me 4/5 but that feels way too high for this so it's either a 3/5 or a 3.5/5 if i'm feeling exceptionally kind

Another CCR record, another great album on the list. I will say that there are some songs that sound very similar. A couple times I caught myself thinking the song coming on was something different. Either way, great tunes and great vibes. Such a unique voice that hits my ears oh so nicely. Really have developed a fondness for CCR after starting this project.

Every CCR album sounds the same. Here is my review of Bayou Country: "Songs about the Deep South and the Bayou written by a guy born and raised in California. Starting your career out with the first 6 albums going platinum in the US. Easy peasy, keep on Chooglin' John."

It’s not quite Bayou Country, but it’s still half an hour of John Fogerty’s iconic vocals.

Never really listened to this band before, other than their hit "Have You Ever Seen the Rain" (and I didn't know this before starting the album). This was super easy listening. Favourite song was "Tombstone Shadow." Will need to listen to some more from them! 3/5

First track is Green River, the title track. It's not a major start, just some simple rock, with even simpler lyrics. Hasn't pulled me in yet, we'll see where this project leads. Following that, we have Commotion. This song is a little more upbeat, gets me grooving, and I'm enjoying these lyrics a little more, it plays very well to me, and a much better start. Next, we have Tombstone Shadow. It's just a cold cut blues record. This plays into some deeper meanings, the lyrics depicting a looming greed, or possibly death, mixing the two. I think it is very well done, and once again, fits the sequence. After this, we get Wrote A Song For Everyone. It's a slower tragic piece, a simple unification track. I think it's a right, a little slow though, but not bad. Then, we get to Bad Moon Rising. It's a good song about omens. I'm liking the record so far, shows a lot of humility on it. Continuing, we get Lodi. It plays well, the country rock vibes I've been enjoying so far, and lyrics wise haven't improved, and that's just fine by me. Then, we get Cross-Tie Walker. This track really gets its bumpkin vibe going. However, I felt the pacing was off, it switches too vastly between fast and slow, couldn't enjoy it as much as I've been wanting to. Second to last, we get Sinister Purpose. I'm not too big on the lyrics here, but damn, this record has such an amazing sound, loved that track. good wrap up, but it's not over yet. Our final track is The Night Time Is The Right Time. It's a killer blues finale. The vocals, lyrics, and production really go in at this part. Loved this finale. I think this record has some good things going for it. Different perspectives of a simple man, living in a simple small part of the world, and I absolutely loved the concepts and sounds from it. There were definitely some misses in certain production choices, lyrics as well, but hey, they can't all be gems, this one shines better than most anyways. I definitely enjoyed.

WHAT ARE YOU DOING IN MY SWAMP?!?!

I wanted to love this and merely liked it. It's a collection of pretty good rock and roll songs with a couple outstanding ones in it. I generally enjoy Fogerty's more understated vocal performances, but the holler he has on "Bad Moon Rising" is great. Highlights: Bad Moon Rising, Lodi, The Night Time Is The Right Time

Some good swamp rock but also some of the most generic sounding Classic Rock of all time. Not really sure there’s much special about this album

Classic

It's alright but nothing to throw jazz hands about you know??

The Dude : Do you find them much, these, stolen cars? Younger Cop : Sometimes. Wouldn't hold out much hope for the tape deck though. Older Cop : Or the Creedence.

It's fine. Better than I expected, but not really something I'll remember tomorrow.

I do like CCR, though in smaller doses. Lots of really good music on this.

This is an easy and fun listen. Guitars are rockin and the band is just jammin man. For me, it was less 9 songs and more a continuous head bop vibe. Pretty cool

Bad Moon Rising is a bop. There's probably better CCR but this is solid.

Nice groovin 60s rock

Really good and succinct

Great album 3.5/5

Typical Rock/Blues Rock of this time…5/10

1001 Albums Day 1. Bit of an interesting inclusion in the list, seeing as it only has one CCR classic on it and a couple of deep cuts. That being said it is a fun time, with good vibes, bleeding americana, if you're into that. Bad Moon Rising is a classic and for good reason, it's brilliant, Wrote A Song For Everyone really drags, Sinister Purpose, Lodi and The Night Time Is The Right Time are really good deep cuts. All together, not exactly chock-full of music I'm likely to return to, moreso a nice vibe-setter for a dive bar or the like. The vibes are good, but the music (save for a couple) is rather unexceptional. Favourites: Bad Moon Rising, Lodi, Sinister Purpose Least Favourite: Wrote A Song For Everyone, Cross-Tie Walking

One of the best at this kind of rock. Not the best kind of rock, though.

70/100 Very yank but also a lot of fun.

It was aight. Not my album but i do love a lot of ccr songs so im not a hater

I know the name, and this is as I thought it might be. It sounds like the music in the background of some sixties road trip movie. There is a genre of sixties American white beardy groups that I don't care about. It's not that I think they are bad, but they just don't do it for me and this is very much that. It's absolutely fine. I quite like "Bad Moon Rising" which is their classic song, I guess. And I'm sure I could delve about in their back catalogue and get something out of it, but I don't feel obliged too. It's hard to describe why I feel this way. It's like it doesn't have the depth or soul or grit or something that I am looking for. Anyway, it's FINE.

Pretty solid but not sure I’d revisit.

The album didn't contain their biggest songs.

Not their best album but a solid entry

It was OK to listen to

Not my cup of tea but DAMN DO THOSE INSTRUMENTALS BANG

It's good, but very samey. Green River, Wrote a Song for Everyone, and Bad Moon Rising were awesome but everything else could've been left off this record.

Loved the A side. B side was pretty weak

I like Bad Moon Rising. Other faves were Cross-Tie Walker and Night Time is the Right Time.

3.5 really good

Some great songs and some filler

This record is too up and down for me. I don't hate any of it, but not a lot rises to great for me. It's between a soft 4 and a strong 3 for me. Going with a 3 because I know I'm not going back to most of this much at all.

Not the catchiest CCR has ever been, but it's short and doesn't overstay it's welcome. Some fun songs I haven't heard before.

Album length was great. Sounded good, but country rock isn’t my thing so I wasn’t too engaged. Guitar parts were good, and instrumental tracks were nice

6/10 - I feel like most of the songs are decent. A lot of the guitar riffs sound very derivative like I have heard them before. I am not sure if these are based on other people's music or they are based on this tho. Bad Moon Rising is a good song and I enjoyed Lodi. Other than those it was fine with most songs blending together.

Listened in car. Wasn’t paying much attention, but I think it was solid

Bad moon rising is an all time great, the rest is good head nodding "good ol boy" stuff

Meh. Blues to excess

I liked it. It was my first time listening to CCR outside their most popular songs and it was good. There's some sort of nostalgia listening to their music and the vocals are great.

Loved this. I've always listened to Credence, but never fully dove into their discography, so it was nice to listen to this from start to finish. The suggested songs that came after this album were top tier too.

Det var en kort sag. Meget rent der ud af, kan godt anerkende deres indflydelse på rigtig meget musik, men gider ikke rigtig at høre det her album igen. 😅 Det er lidt kedeligt...

Dem boys are alright

Excellent album, agonised over whether to give it 3 or 4.

ccr goat 3.5/5

This is classic, textbook Creedence. I like Creedence, but I do feel like they sort of blend into classic rock radio and don’t stand out. Lots to like here, but also doesn’t stand out to me.

this album is good, but just not their best.

I don’t dislike CCR. It’s just find them to be OK. I’m down to listen to their most popular songs. But for an entire album it just washes over me and then I forget about it. I’m never eager to listen even when I recognize their musicianship and cool vocals. It’s simply fine. 3.5/5

First listen Saved 4/9 Top track: Green River

Always a big CCR respecter, not as crazy about this album. Good songs as usual but nothing that truly jumps out. I’d say this is their 3rd best album of 1969

It was tolerable but the algoryhtm beat it by a long way.

Not a huge fan of his voice, but the music is great.

Unoffensive, some nice guitar throughout

This seems like a “get moving” album. The songs flow together well without them sounding like one long song. The well known hits on this album do separate themselves from the rest of the songs but the “unknowns” hold up fairly well. This isn’t a jaw dropping album but it also hasn’t made me skip a song, even on the expanded edition. Choice Cut: Wrote a Song for Everyone

Its ok

It was very much of it's time. Easy to listen to. Harmless and undemanding. Bit repetitive but classic in its own way. Worthy of 3 stars.

I'd say more than one Credence album here is an extravagance, I enjoyed the last one, this seems more inessential, aside from the obvious. Though I was dealing with an ant infestation in our dishwasher so I was a mite distracted. However I'm off to Old Trafford to see us get slaughtered by Liverpool, and later going to see Sky Ferreira, so heading Bad Moon Rising and Night Time is the Right Time both feel especially appropriate.

Just alright. Your dad probably likes this, especially "Bad Moon Rising." The rest of the songs sound pretty much the same and sorta blur together.

Typischer Creedenece Clearwater Sound. Mit dem bekannten "Bad Moon Rising". Ganz angenehm.

American music, sounds like cowboy and country but with a nice beat.

Rock, Blues, Folk, 1969 -> 3

Classic but got really repetitive honestly

Decent 60's rock and roll - easy background music Green River - 6.5/10 Commotion - 7/10 Tombstone Shadow - 7/10 Wrote A Song For Everyone - 3/10 Bad Moon Rising - 5/10 Lodi - 6/10 Cross-Tie Walker - 7/10 Sinister Purpose - 8/10 The Night Time Is The Right Time - 6/10

It's CCR, you cant fault them really but I've heard them far too many times over the years.

Listened 3/20/24. Decent album. It is a bit overplayed for me to fully enjoy it though.

it was fine enough, just not really my kind of music I spose

Not bad, but there are definitely better Creedence albums

Ok. Gets a little repetitive but nice and short

Yeehaw! I need to hear this lead singer talk in his normal talking voice.

Gear: DCA ÆON 2 Noire Mix: warm und gemütlich Musik: gute, ehrliche Stromgitarrenmusik Wertung: 🌻🌻🌻/5

Green River funky and country twang to it. Pretty good but some vocal inflections not really my thing, sound unnatural and a style choice. Bad Moon Rising is an obvious hit, jangly and more simple rhyming singing, plus nostalgia hearing it in TV and movies over the years. As the album gets towards the end I do get a bit sick of the guitar. Starts to feel like worse versions of the songs I already heard, not too much different musically. I won't be considering it one of my favorite albums but definitely admire the big singles/hits from this band.

Good but meh

Great album.

Great. Not their best

Songs a bit on the short side. Also none seemed to end, just faded out... fine when it's one or two but learn to finish a song plz

3/5. Love bad moon rising.

oh okay so it really is just That One Song cool cool cool

Sinister Purpose and Green River very similar melody. Don't like their version of night time is the right time. Percussion is good. Vocals are meh. Wrote a Song for Everyone = standout track

Good classics, with some very good, underrated less-known songs. Little too slow at times.

Been said several times that it's hard to believe they weren't from the South but like all artists - you find what you like and form your style around it. The Beatles didn't live in the South and hang around the sould/R&B artists of the late 50's early 60's. Get a grip! CCR did it well. Too bad they didn't get along and stay together...

I liked this album more than I expected. I guess the cliches for CCR are spread out amongst their albums. Some good bass riffs, too.

1st listen: sure! This is fine. Kind of forgot that I was listening to it. 2nd listen notes: Green River - this is fine Commotion - I zoned out Tombstone Shadow - Wrote A Song for Everyone - I like this one Bad Moon Rising - this is good. Lodi - Cross-Tie Talker - Sinister Purpose - a little boring but I can dig it. The Night Time Is the Right Time - Okay, I think this is a great "feel" for an album. Gives a vibe. Just not very interesting.

Best CCR album so far but just not really my thing, a tad too swamp rocky, although I knew one or 2 songs

Im sure id bump up the rating to a solid four if I was more familiar with this album. A lot of good stuff here though.

Just ok for them

I can see how is could objectively be a good album, but to be honest, I found it a bit boring and formulaic. Maybe it would grow on me in a different mood or with a more attentive listen. I’d give it between a 3 and a 4 (probably like 6.5/10).

Classic album, some great tracks. 1/2 not up to scratch in comparison to the rest of the album. High 3.

Love credence, this album was good, classic

This is the 4th album from 1969, seems to like this year or something. Comparing to the stones album from the same year, I'd say it's more consistent but the highs aren't as high.

I like CCR, so was looking forward to this. It's alright, not a standout album, and to be honest it was on repeat and I didn't realise until the singles played again that the album had played through, the songs are quite similar sounding! Guitar solos are quite repetitive and seem to focus around one note or bend and that was a little challenging to listen to! Probably a 3.4, so rounding down to 3!

Cool album cover

East Bay represents!

Era defining band, vietnamese war music personified 3.5 / 5

Enjoyable listen. They have an original sound. 3/5

Classic, 3.5

Very pleasant

Pretty cool album, but not sure I'll get back to it.

More of a bluesy CCR, but without most of the catchy songs I'm used to. Mostly forgettable

Favourite Song: Lodi

Another classic band that needs no introduction. I'd not listened to an album by them before, but was happy to sing along to the hits. The rest of the album was fine but my ambivalence is more due to this not really being my thing than any failings on their part. A solid 3.

Creedence Clearwater Revival's 1969 album, "Green River," solidifies the band's reputation for crafting straightforward, rootsy rock that resonates with an enduring authenticity. Opening with the title track, the album immediately immerses listeners in CCR's signature swamp rock sound, complete with John Fogerty's distinctive vocals and the band's tight, rhythmic interplay. The record strikes a balance between the bluesy, down-home feel of tracks like "Bad Moon Rising" and the soulful, reflective tones of "Lodi," showcasing the band's musical versatility. "Commotion" and "Tombstone Shadow" maintain the album's energetic pace, driven by Fogerty's gritty guitar work and Doug Clifford's steady drumming. The straightforward production enhances the raw, live feel of the recordings, contributing to the timeless appeal of "Green River." With each track, CCR effortlessly captures the spirit of Americana, exploring themes of nature, travel, and everyday life. The album also features the socially conscious "Fortunate Son," a poignant commentary on class disparities and the Vietnam War, displaying a rare political edge within the band's discography. "Green River" is a concise and focused effort, embodying the band's ability to distill roots rock into a potent, accessible form. Creedence Clearwater Revival's third studio album cements their status as one of the quintessential acts of the late '60s, channeling the essence of American rock with an authenticity that continues to resonate across generations.

It’s a classic and the songs are all very similar but since its duration is short, provides a very enjoyable listening experience. [0128/1001]

It’s not my style

You pretty much know what you're going to get listening to any Creedence album. Hell, hearing the voice alone, you know who it's Creedence/Fogerty. This album pretty straight forward with some solid hits. The remake of The Night Time is the Right Time was a surprise and OK, but he really should have left this one for Ray. Personal favorites were Wrote A Song for Everyone and Bad Moon Rising. Greatest NFL nickname given by Chris Berman was for a stud Spartan wide receiver Andre Rison. Andre "Bad Moon" Rison. Lisa Lopez of TLC burned that dude's mansion down. Bitches be crazy. And speaking of Spartans, funny to see those cheaters at michigan give up their morals and ethics. They're the Auburn of the North. Win a championship but have it forever linked to cheating is something most of their scumbag fans embrace. Pretty pathetic for a fanbase that loves to tell you they're better than everyone else when it turns out their frauds. Back to the album, can't say this is their best stuff, but I enjoyed all the same. Some times a little Creedence hits the spot, but didn't really feel this one. 2.5 for me, but will round up to 3 2.5

3 I referred to these guys as hit or miss in my last review, but after this album, I think what that means for me is that they’re just an overall average group. They have highs and lows for sure (Fortunate Son being a personal favorite, Down on the Corner not so much), but for the most part, their catalog just seems to net out to a level of acceptably decent for me. Like, is this album doing anything drastically different from Cosmo’s Factory? Or is it even really better or worse for that matter? No, not really. Same kind of bayou-rock sound with one good song (Green River), an annoyingly overplayed one (Bad Moon Rising), and seven tracks of material that are fine enough. As I’ve stated before, I’ve always dug John Fogerty’s voice, but outside of that, I don’t really get what makes these guys stand apart from a lot of other classic rock bands. There are definitely worse things to be listening to, but I don’t think they’re quite deserving enough to get anything higher than a 3 from me - though they’re at least consistent enough to probably avoid going below that score as well.

This was pretty middle of the road for me. Most of the songs sounded the same. I don't think the style is my vibe. A couple of bops, and more exposure could potentially change my mind - for example, I know I've heard Bad Moon Rising on a bunch of soundtracks, and it felt like one of the more enjoyable moments, but could just be because I'm familiar with it. Otherwise probably not going to revisit much.

I didn’t realize how much I like 60s music and I liked this album. It features Bad Moon Rising (twice, once a studio cut and the other a live version), a classic single. It also has some bluesy tracks. I give this 3.5 stars.

Rock sung by country singers. Some great songs.

I know this is some people’s favorite album. It’s catchy and definitely defined that 70s Southern rock sound that later influenced some of my favorite bands like Alice in Chains. That said, this album doesn’t wow me. It’s a decent listen, but it is not something I will be obsessively listening to again.

The first two tracks on this album were real good, then it hit kind of a lull until Bad Moon Rising and Lodi. Last few tracks weren't anything special to my ears either. Overall not my favorite CCR album, but not bad either.

3 stars

It’s ok. Bad Moon Rising is a classic, the others are a bit samey.

Need to revisit but 3 stars for my first listen

Maybe it's because I was listening to it in the middle of winter, or maybe it's because I found out that the members of CCR actually grew up in California, but this album of classic bayou rock just didn't resonate with me.

A few very recognizable songs (Bad Moon Rising, Green River) and not really any bad songs on the record. They certainly found their sound and stuck with it a little too much in some cases, but it's a great sound, so it's hard to fault them.

Decent blues/country rock.

Ok look, I get it. They were unique in 1969. This guitar tone and production has been bled dry. TLDR: Listen to one CCR album before you die

This was definitly not for me, like the songwriting, instrumentals and production are very good, but this didn’t hit for me, I really wanted to enjoy it.

Eh ben mon vieux c'était très chouette, très sympa pour ma promenade au bord de mer. Malheureusement le ciel s'est voilé yavait plus de soleil, ça a un peu ruiné la Vibe. J'ai bien aimé moon rising something

M'encanta bad moon rising. Crec que és l'única raó per la qual aquest àlbum està aquí. Expected Lorenzo rating: 3

Pretty decent actually. Some some not so good tracks but short and sweet. Great for the 60s

Very boring and mid,do not understand the love for ccr, even their good songs are just fine.

Not something I'd seek out probably but I found it more enjoyable than I anticipated. Lots of great guitar licks in particular.

A classic. Enjoyed this Creedence collection, especially the tracks you don't hear so much on FM Radio, like The Night Time Is The Right Time.

nice bit of twangy geetar

CCR eru alltaf góðir. Gott rokk.

I rolled my eyes to see another much-discussed late seventies American rock outfit on this list, but I see why they deserve a place. I like the blues energy of this album. Personally, I wouldn't choose to listen to this though. I'm 3 songs in and it still has work to do to earn a 4th star.

I kept meaning to listen to Creedence since they're referenced throughout The Big Lebowski. I enjoyed this, mostly in that I could imagine The Dude kicking back and have a good time.

This album is fine, but it didn't really stand out to me like some of the other late 60s early 70s rock I've gotten from this so far. Plenty listenable, no ear worms. I'd probably say Commotion was my favorite here.

Country Rockia. Green River paras kappale. Bad Moon Rising suosituin ja vähän ehkä tuttu mutta ei niin hyvä musta. Sopii paremmin ehkä taas kesäsempään hetkeen

Of course familiar with Green River and Bad Moon Rising. Who doesn't like CCR? It's just fun. It is kinda repetitive, though. At least the songs are short. I enjoy it, but it's not something I ever seek out, really. Still, good stuff.

Feels like floating down a river, bad moon is a track

Some classic CCR songs on this album. My favorite, and maybe favorite CCR song ever is "Lodi". The album tends to not differentiate much from song to song, but is still pretty good. 3.5/5 Would listen again

It was fine. Nothing remarkable

Classic!

Decent bluesy country rock. Favorite Track: Bad Moon Rising

At the beginning, yeehaw? At the end it was nice

Почему-то пропустил этот альбом. Как бы назвать жанр. Определённо, какой-то рок, 1969 Слушается легко, не тяжеляк, не жестяк. Приятно. Понедельник начался приятно. В принципе троечка уверенная.

The Night Time Is The Right Time for this album. It was alright. Don’t know if I’d cause a ton of Commotion around this one though.

Thought I'd hate but it's alright, bit samey

Not bad. Radio hits unlike other tracks on record. 3.6

Creedence tape

Sympa. Du rock qui se base sur du blues 12 mesures, avec des fondus enchaînés. J'ai l'impression que ça fait un peu vieillot.

⭐⭐⭐✨✨ not my taste but not bad. have you ever seen the rain-simple lyrics, band had rising tension. fortunate son-1:17 guitar goes hard, vibes from 'no hay nadie como tu' commentary from difference of classes, working hard. Bad moon rising- I like this one, not the voice but the lyrics are good. proud mary- again a commentary on classes, 'poor people are good at heart' kind of thinking, working hard. up around the bend- 'being in the city will drive you crazy' haha.

Theyare very ok

Decent by CCR, but they're all decent

Pretty good, but I think CCR has better albums than this one. Will I listen to again: 15%

More CCR already? I guess that means we're getting it out of the way early. Much more enjoyable than Cosmo's Factory, though still not super into it. The hits are more my style and the instrumentals don't drag on forever, which is great. "Bad Moon Rising" was definitely stuck in my head all day. Aside: a week in and I need a new personal rating scale or I'll never use numbers below 3. Aiming for roughly "I would refuse to listen to this again" to "I need to listen again / it's a favorite album". By this standard most of my first week's ratings would drop by one.

jaaa wel nice maar zou t niet opnieuw luisteren

I feel like I already heard the best don't on the album "Bad Moon Rising", which is great, but nothing else really reached that height.

Good album. I’m a CCR fan and love their catalog, this isn’t my favorite but it’s good.

Not sure. Seems to lack some punch

Bad moon rising is a cool track everything else sounds like attempts to make Bad moon rising

has a couple of bangers

This album has some great classics like bad moon rising and one I forgot about, green river, which is great. Overall the album is a little slow for my taste but I can see why they were so popular back in the day.

Pretty good sound, typical CCR

is fine. obv bad moon rising is a classic.

Not for me

Some great songs but a bit too similar for me. Lots of very standard swampy stuff.

Green River and Commotion are a great one-two punch, but the rest of the album left some to be desired. Average for me.

Okay album, carried by a few great songs.

Not really a genre I enjoy, but even so a nice atmosphering feel-good experience. The background instumentals are a bit generic (although they may not have been back in the day), and I enjoy the jams at the end of the songs. I likely won’t listen again but it was nice to hear.

Heard it before?: Yes Enjoy it?: Yeah, it’s kinda meh to me though, ok but not groundbreaking Favourite song: Track 5 - Bad Moon Rising

I never was much a fan of Creedence Clearwater Revival, I appreciate their influence on roots/southern rock but this isn't really something that I would listen to frequently. It's weird to think that when this was released that side two would have all their best songs on it. Standouts: Bad Moon Rising, Lodi, Sinister Purpose

Plenty of good tunes on this album, Green River is my favorite.

CCR is a solid band who put out solid albums. This is not their best album but it's still pretty good.

It's alright. Some of the songs are a little too predictable. The singing is full on all the time. Would have been better with more dynamics. Favorite song: Green River.

Lo escuché pero nada especial. Buenos ritmos y mejor q el primero así q se lleva un 6/10. No le preste mucha atención

Sympa sans plus

Didn’t like it as quite much as I thought I would but still good. Already knew Bad Moon Rising and liked the other similarly mildly spooky songs. Favourite Sinister Purpose.

I've now heard three different albums in full by this group, which I imagine is more than most people who consider themselves CCR "fans". This one is better than Bayou Country, or least feels like it. There's a tad more variation, and you fan kind of see the direction the band continues to go in, but I still don't see what makes this so special. It's just swamp rock, right? I'm not missing something special, right? Because I really feel like I'm missing something with these. I hope Cosmo's Factory opens my eyes in some way.

Fint album

Some simple yet enjoyable country rock

Very straightforward blues rock classics, some are great, some are cheesy. I enjoy CCR in small doses but get bored of their LPs.

Southern rock achtig album?

Really generic but damned if I did find myself taping my toe to those blues riffs.

Can't quite believe I'm on my THIRD CCR album in this list. Response is similar to the first I heard. It's alright. Bit Musty. Only half an hour, which is a bit of a shame, bit listening to it it doesn't FEEL that short. Bad Moon Rising is a corker though.

Nice CCR album

It's a good album getting back to early rock n roll roots. It's apparent that this is early roots-rock/country-rock. Some good songs on this classic album, but there wasn't a lot of variation; after a while, the songs sounded too similar to keep my attention.

No classics

3.5. Has some really nice songs and vibes, but also a simple at times

If you like CCR, you'll like this album.

Strong CCR offering. Lots of stuff from the hit list of the time

Vahvaa taas. En pitänyt tästä niin paljon, tuntui että huippukohta puuttui (vaikka oli oivallisia biisejä kyllä). Liian tasainen siis, vaikka tasaisuus toki on CCR:n ydin.

Favourites: • Green River • Tombstone Shadow • Bad Moon Rising

När man står i ett träsk och inte vill spotta ut tuggtobaken.

CCR were essentially small manufacturers of consumer products, pounding out a series of totally predictable, perfectly competent and decently tuneful, but faux-swampy and utterly paint-by-the-numbers pop. “Lodi” is their most affecting song, which may have something to do with the fact that it’s about a town in California where they’re actually from, and not Louisiana, for and to the culture of which the group seemed to pine and aspire. Maybe they should have made just one or two albums in these few years, rather than six and then they would seem better (presuming they toss the dodgy choices [e.g., “Night Time is the Right Time”]). One suspects they just wanted to be liked and chose an inoffensive, if slightly countrified, middle-of-the-road-ism. That they sold more records than the Beatles of the time is only more evidence – as if such were needed – of the inescapable dodginess of the taste of the American musical consumer.

Green River- 3.5/5 Commotion- 3.8/5 Tombstone Shadow- 3.6/5 Wrote a Song for Everyone- 2.6/5 Bad Moon Rising- 4.8/5 Lodi- 3.8/5 Cross-Tie Walker- 3.2/5 Sinister Purpose- 4.1/5 The Night Time Is the Right Time- 4/5 Total - 3.7/5

Not a big CCR fan, but it was a fun listen.

Likes: warm and welcoming sound, stomp-clap kind of fun, straightforward and honest, joyful riffs, accessible af, each track its own vignette, even the spooky growly aspects feel wholesome Dislikes: vocals are generally fantastic but can be grating for me at times, at times a little bored with how generally familiar the sound is Favorite tracks: Commotion (great attitude and momentum), Cross-Tie Walker (fun bass), Sinister Purpose (devil's gonna getcha), Broken Spoke Shuffle (sunny melodies and chord changes) Favorite lyrics: "wrote a song for everyone when I couldn't even talk to you", "burn away the goodness, you and I remain" 3.5/5

Pleasant album. Easy listening.

Very chill I knew one song (bad moon rising) thanks dad

Yes. CCR. Can't go wrong.

guitars!!! fun vibe but not a re-listen.

Tried listening to this a dozen times and wasn't feeling it. Finally, I started from the beginning and listened (mostly) straight through. I thought it was pretty good with some hits I didn't realize was CCR. But the best ones were more unexpected, like Wrote a Song for Everyone. Overall though it felt like the same song over and over. Sometimes I like that. In this case I did not. Still, that one song is okay...

Very classic rock album.

I didn't like it as much as bayou country. bad moon rising

I want to like this band more than I do. Vocals are often great, guitars are sometimes great. Just don't care for their country rock esque style. 3.5/5 FS: Tombstone, Bad Moon, Sinister, Night Time

I only know them from Here Comes The Rain. This is the first album from them that I fully listened because of this challenge. Their music is usually not my cup of tea but I appreciate this. I just felt the middle tracks really bored me. Only from 'Sinister Purpose' and beyond it got interesting again.

This is a solid representation of CCR's work and CCR is worthy of the list. So, cool.

never been much of a CCR fan. they are ok

This has as big hits as the other two records released that year, but somehow this feels like the slightest CCR LP. Sophomore slump, anyone?

Some classic

Solid album, nothing I can really fault, but I got bored towards the end. Tracks maybe a bit samey, maybe I just wasn't in the mood for this sorta music. Probs harsh but a strong 2.5 for me.

Snilt.

- First band I've hit a second album with. The earlier album (Bayou Country) I really couldn't stand. It felt fake and boring. This one, recorded the same year, is an entirely different affair and I'm not really clear on why. I'm trying to reach back into my memories of the other album - maybe I should revisit it. My review just said it's not my kind of thing and it was really boring. And that's it. I remember it was boring. This isn't at all. It's still traditional - It's certainly not pushing any sonic envelopes - but it's just a great feel to it. It's enough better that I'm still not sure if it should be 3 or 4.

I was digging it at first but then all the songs just started to sound the same. I've never really paid too much attention to this dudes voice but it's a lot froggier than I remember. It's defnitely chill and something you can move along to and I liked it while it was on. I never knew that song was called green river Score: 70 Art: 70

Love this redneck rock - CCR have so many classic hits, and this record was no exception. Cool and quick listen, but it can start to sound redundant.

A solid three: blues-rock guitar, that rolling rhythm and the gruff vocals all very much present and correct. Listening this time around I noticed how with some extra harmonies here, studio polish there and some slide guitar on top the chords and melodies in several songs could just slide into The Eagles sound very easily. Not a complement.
