Reviews (page 5 of 13)

Many people have this as the best Stones album, but to me, it feels incomplete somehow. I think that in 1971, they were trying to answer the question, "Are the Stones more than the sum of their parts?" I'm not sure we need the answer to this question today as much as we did 50 years ago. This may be their most well-rounded album, but I'm not sure it's their best. Best track: Moonlight Mile

Didn’t care much for Brown Sugar, but really enjoyed everything else, especially the country cuts off the album.

A decade may have come and gone and a new one had just dawned (albeit in incriminating fashion) but The Rolling Stones were as powerful as ever regardless of how sticky their extremities were. The third of four album run that many of rock's purists still uphold as being the best period in the band's history (and any band's history for that matter), the Andy Warhol zipper assisted record once again showcased the Stones approaching a seemingly never-ending peak as they blended the sounds of country, rock, funk, and blues into a concoction that indicated that they've gone past the limited mindset that people still had of rock and roll. In fact, they'd gone beyond rock and had simply become another thing entirely and it's a thing that's still rolling to this day.

Classic

Estuvo brian john aqui?

I mean it’s good. Rock / country / dj sean it’s pre good!

"Brown Sugar" is an unreal opener, about as perfect as it gets for setting the tone of this album. With the exception of "Slow Horses" and the closer "Moonlight Mile," the slower songs didn't stick to me the way the looser jams or boogies do. This might be a reviewer cliché, but "Can't You Feel Me Knocking" feels like the sun this album orbits around. Those Latin drums are incredible. "Moonlight Mile" does seem to presage the 1990s/2000s Britpop explosion, so it's kind of fitting to bring this sonic collage of an album to a close with it. Don't you hear Oasis?

surprisingly chill , i thought it would be hard rock and roll

Some of my favorite Stones songs are on Sticky Fingers. Also, I love the Warhol album cover. Favorite songs: Moonlight Mile, Wild Horses, Dead Flowers

Second time for this one. Gave it a 4 before. Let’s see what it is today. I was surprised by Let it Bleed. Thought that was a WAY better album than it actually was. Really that album has two mega, mega hits and a bunch of trash. I realize with the Stones I can go in initially with nostalgia, knee jerk voting. So… Oh yeah, this is definitely a 4. I’m realizing this might be their best album as album. It’s pretty f*ing consistent. Wild Horses, the extended play on Can’t You Hear, Dead Flowers (always thought this was dark humor at its best), and then ending with Moonlight Mile. Yeah, it’s almost a 5, it just leans too heavily on blues tropes to pull it through for me to go all the way to 5. I know that’s not a fault for many, but… I think they’re lazy about it. Like other artists of this generation, Bob Dylan for one, I feel that at times they think because they have a handful of blues figures in their pocket that makes up for actually composing a song. Anyway, still a really good album. 4 Boolean: TRUE

Sticky Fingers is an album I hoped would absolutely blow me away and show me what The Stones are all about, but honestly it felt like a nice slow burn rather than an explosive and eye-catching project I thought it would be. I personally don't mind a slow burn album especially when it has stellar writing all across the board like with Moonlight Mile, Sway, and of course Wild Horses. This album is a lot calmer and more cool than I had initially expected but I soon came to enjoy that style as it was very easy coming and accessible rather than being full of "pump me up" tracks that feel suited for specific moments. I guess I never realized just how Blues The Rolling Stones were because all I was familiar with was their greatest hits and a lot of the more heavy and Hard Rock tracks like Start Me Up and even Rocks Off. I found Mick Jagger to be very emotional across this entire project and really move myself with his words and just how he expressed each note to perfectly fit the vibe of what this whole project was going for. I feel I should also mention the iconic album cover which is yet another favorite of mine thanks in part to Andy Warhol's very talented and foreward thinking visions. I feel like even with the cover Sticky Fingers looks like it would sound like a much more hard and simplistic project, but beneath the zipper and deep into the grooves of this project shows something much more vulnerable and far more noteworthy than any run of the mile Rock sound could ever accomplish. Sticky Fingers has already grown on me signifcantly in the time since I first listened and I expect it to continue to age like fine wine in my personal tastes as I slowly become more infatuated with what The Rolling Stones have to offer as a band. Nuff said!

Not the biggest Stones fan, but the sounds and tones on this are undeniable. Heck yeah

I liked it seems like it paced the road for future rock albums. Favorite Songs Moonlight Mile Wild horses Can’t you hear me knocking

Pretty good. Maybe their best.

Probably not my favorite of theirs so far, but a good one.

Good shit

4/5 - would listen to again

I mean it’s the Stones

Oh Stones... FAVO: Brown Sugar, Cant you hear me knocking, SIster Morphine

3.5. I liked this more than the other Stones album.

Wild Horses is one of my favorite Stones songs. A side of this is great, but B Side leaves something to be desired

Pretty classic Stones here. Love Wild Horses and Dead Flowers in particular. Some great riffs from Keith, and keyboards abound. Not quite "Exile" level for me but up there.

Brown Sugar / Wild Horses / Can't You Hear Me Knocking / I Got The Blues One of the better albums of Rolling Stones.

Bluesy, Rocky, nicely produced, great to listen to. Yep solid

Huh. All this time I had no idea Dead Flowers was a cover. I think I might still prefer the Townes Van Sandt version.

refreshing & rocking. probably was a breath of fresh air with all the art rock head assery happening around the time.

Probably my fav Rolling Stones album. Some proper tunes on there

No. 220 Bluesy, Rocky, nicely produced, great to listen to.

It's at the good end of the Stones' wildly unpredictable output. The two big singles on it are, by turn an all-time great bop in Brown Sugar, and Jagger managing to be wholly vulnerable but not overwrought on Wild Horses. In places, it's a little too countrified for my tastes, and it tails off a touch, but it's still a really strong showing from Mick and Keith and Co.

When I was younger, I preferred The Beatles and Led Zeppelin to the Stones. Recently I have changed my mind. Great shit.

Very good album probably one of their best very blues not pop yet nothing mindblowing.

I'm not typically a huge fan of the stones, but I liked this album!

Good album really shoots its shot in the first half then tapers out

Great album with great songs and a ton of nostalgia. I used to fall asleep to classic stones as a kid and this brought back those memories

Muthrfkr. Seems like forever I’ve been told these boys are number 2. Like over *everyone.* I never really heard it. It was alright, but really? Sooo great?? Bit overhyped imo. Don’t know how or why, but it was clear as a bell this time. What a great fukkn album.

los rolling no decepcionan

Mick Taylor stones is best stones, convince me otherwise. He brings a bit of energy to this lovely stew of blues, country and rock. The band have always been more than the sum of their parts but Taylor brings a real musicality. For me this is the height of their powers

I’d give this a solid 4/5, it misses out on 5 stars because it feels like there’s something missing that stops this from being really memorable, Keith Richards guitar work is phenomenal though

It was a good listen. They were never brilliant but theyre do what they do well

Obviously, it's good. I just don't find it *that* good. With maybe the exception of Can't You Hear Me Knocking - I love that one. The sax player is my favourite member.

"Can't You Hear Me Knocking" je dolg in hud? Presenetljivo fajn? (K velikrat, tbh, se mi Stones komadi blendajo into one, ker majo značilen zvok.)

Some of the lyrics are dodgy, but I really enjoyed the music. There’s a nice country/bluesy feel to the songs. I love a good saxophone and I enjoyed the string arrangements that show up. The first song really puts me off, but then the rest of the album was a good listen. Fav song: Wild Horses Least fav: Brown Sugar

Not quite as good as exile on Main Street though it’s hard to beat that. Do not like this cover. Enjoyable songs throughout but some questionable lyrics. Wild horses is just one of my fav songs though and I can’t deny that. Specific rating - 4.3 Fav song - Wild Horses Least fav- brown sugar

Okay. My memory of listening to this album has to be sometime after the 1990 something CD remaster. I was living with a few guys and one of them was telling me about Rolling Stones. At that time, the Stones were a different beast. A little too schlocky and cocky for me. A lot of cock rock. He encouraged me to listen to Sticky Fingers. He put it one on his CD system in his room by the kitchen. We listened, drank some of his scotch, and talked about famous album covers. Sticky Fingers with the zipper and Alice Cooper and the paper underwear. I heard the blues and roots influence on the Stones and didn't hear every cut. Luke, his Maine Coon cat found a corner in the backroom and yowled to get our attention. It was a memorable night. I gained a little appreciation for what the Stones were before they became that larger than life and semi-parodic band. This was the first time in a long while hearing this all the way through. Yeah, I get it. Roots, country and rock mixed together with sometimes boredom and sometimes soul. It makes for a good listen. Sister Morphine - great cut. I really enjoy so many of these songs. While it isn't something I would keep coming back to, I can appreciate what it is. 4 stars.

Has never been my favorite Stones record, but like the Stones in general I’ve come around on it over the years. I think we (or at least I) take these guys for granted, they are deeply subversive and fun musicians and songwriters. I mean, just look at Led Zeppelin (their contemporaries) or the future cock rock bands of the ‘70s and ‘80s and it’s a world of difference. Fantastic record, but their legendary run wasn’t over yet…

First ever Stones album listen unlocked. My frame of reference is Denis Leary's bit about his dream bar that played nothing but the Stones, and "Weird Al's" Hot Rocks Polka lol. More musically diverse than I was expecting, and all good. Great guitar work and riffs, notably Wild Horses. Keith Richards earned his status.

I really like this band. Not super fan of the singer's voice. But they definitely have an original sound. Would definitely listen to this again

I love the Stones—specifically *Sticky Fingers*. It was the first Stones album I ever listened to in its entirety, and I’m absolutely blown away—if only by those killer guitar riffs

what a relief having this normal album after The Residents yesterday

This list has taught me that the rolling stones were pretty good hey. I don't think it's quite for me, but it's hard to say they didn't have some great albums. Perhaps deserving of all those t shirts you see around!

really cool to listen to this album and feel the roots of so many other musical styles

313/1001 The Rolling Stones - Sticky Fingers Heard before? ✅ Revisit? ✅ It's been 313 days to finally get a Rolling Stones album and it's such a great album. Brown Sugar and Wild Horses are phenomenal tracks and I like tge bluesiness of the album. Yes, it's a little top heavy and some tracks don't quite work. Still great stuff.

A lot better than I expected

There is an old corny expression that a high school friend of mine liked to quote “the blues and country had a child and named it rock and roll.” This is the sound the Stones were going for. I like this record quite a bit. Brown Sugar has always felt lyrically problematic, but it’s a great song. Wild Horses is a great song, Bitch is a great song and really hits that particular Stones vibe. Dead Flowers is very country and very good.

Mick with the extra twang in his voice is fine but a lot better in smaller doses. As such, it took me a minute to get into Moonlight Mile. Other than that and the ever-furrowed brow over Brown Sugar (even though without the lyrical content it’s a super solid song) this is a pretty nice one.

The Rolling Stones are hit or miss me, but I really enjoyed this album. I’ve always thought of them as a very straightforward rock ‘n’ roll band, and what I liked about this album was how different some of these songs were. Brown Sugar is a great track that everyone knows, but I like Wild Horses and Can’t Touch Hear Me Knocking better. This album showcases them at their bluesy best. Lots of great playing on this record. Loved it. 4 stars.

Good album but not their best

oh yeah. licking the sticky right of my fingers

Daria 3,5... Mas vai pro 4. É melhor que muito 3.

Favorite track(s): Wild Horses, Can't You Hear Me Knocking, Bitch, Sister Morphine, Moonlight Mile Heard before Previous rating: 9/10

I love the Rolling Stones so I knew I’d enjoy this but there were a few album tracks I hadn’t heard that I actually really loved. Plus ‘Can’t you hear me knocking’ just makes me super nostalgic for playing guitar hero, all nice memories.

Really good, an honest to god classic! Bluesy, fun, and sentimental all at the same time.

Some songs I'd never heard before, and the ones I had are absolute classics. A particular favourite track I hadn't heard before was 'Bitch'.

Some good classics

Mick jagger est excellent, black sugar est excellente. Wild horses évidemment ! Ça donne une impression de force tranquille. Bitch est cool. Sister morphine !

Several songs here are woven into the fabric of American life, at least if you were a child of the 80s and 90s. Not sure I'll ever be truly passionate about their music, but it's easy to understand how people got there. That said, it's interesting seeing their footprint on American culture fade a bit over time. Can't remember the last time I saw a sincere Stones vs. Beatles argument, and I don't see their songs pop up in media the way they used to (save for just about every Scorsese movie). Stones vs. Beatles was always kind of a false binary anyway, but I was brought up to believe this was one of the two Most Important Bands Ever™, and that sentiment seems to be completely dried up at this point. There's a series of Beatles biopics coming in a couple of years, one a week for four weeks, each focused on a different Beatle. It's hard to imagine the market having an appetite for a single Stones movie, let alone one about Jagger and one about Richards. To some extent, that's happening to all of the classic rock stalwarts in the absence of monoculture (Bowie, Reed, Pink Floyd, and Zeppelin are all probably due for a biopic moment like Queen, Dylan, and Springsteen had recently), but it's still wild to experience since it was just unimaginable 20-30 years ago. Maybe that's just a shifting of who gets to create the canon now that magazines like Rolling Stone and Spin have less relevance than Pitchfork, and Pitchfork has less relevance than Anthony Fantano and a hundred young influencers on Instagram. Only speaking for myself, I don't feel the energy or passion to get my kids excited about their songs when they come up on shuffle, and they don't trigger my own nostalgia buttons, even though they soundtracked their fair share of it. It's probably a shame that I don't make much time for them anymore since the four-album run of Beggar's Banquet → Let It Bleed → Sticky Fingers → Exile on Main Street is hard to beat in all of music history. The songs are punchy, plaintive, fully formed; they're still aping the black artists who came before them, but they do so with complete command of the material. "Wild Horses" still captivates me, "Brown Sugar" still makes me want to move, and there is genuine experimentation on songs like "Moonlight Mile", and best-in-genre craftsmanship in "Can't You Hear Me Knocking" (especially towards the end when they really get cooking). I don't know where this album or this band lives for me, but I was glad to revisit it. While I doubt I'll reach for it again without something like this project prompting it, I look forward to inevitably running into these songs again down the road.

Very enjoyable album with some of their best tracks

A really good classic album. I really considered giving this 5 stars but the end of the album brings it down a bit for me.

Not the best pacing. Starts strong then the vibes change near the end. I enjoyed the country but not in the middle of a rock album. No flow still brilliant individually.

Góð lög á þessari plötu. Einhvern veginn finnst mér skrýtið að gefa henni fjórar stjörnur en samt finnst mér ekki annað meika sens 🤔

WIIIIILLLLLLDDDDD HORSES!!!!

The music was really good but the lyrics were wild

Wild wild horses, couldn’t drag me away (from this album)

if you see me giving a 60s/70s english rock album below 3 stars, that's not me occassionally blindingly gorgeous - the organs in i got the blues, moonlight mile's strings, the entirety of wild horses

Easy 4. Contains perhaps my fave Stones’ song in “Wild Horses”. Iconic tunes and iconic cover.

I already loved “wild horses”, in this listen I also loved “you gotta move”, the whole album is very much a movie soundtrack, "moonlight mile" is a very good song to end an album, feels like an ending. liked this very much. the songs did not need those long solos, but that's just my short content brain speaking

7.5/10

Very good album!

good classic Stones. Enjoyed the lesser played songs.

Amazing combination of blues and folk/country. Lots of fun

Great tunes ranging from upbeat ones to meaningful ballads. Songs that stood out to me were brown sugar, wild horses and sister morphine. Interesting range of topics discussing darker sides of living in America

rock n roll. blues. catchy. classic.

The run of albums the Stones produced from Beggar's Banquet to Exile on Main Street forms their Imperial Phase - when their claim to be "The Greatest Rock and Roll Band in the World" was not just indisputable, it was self-evident. Slap bang in the middle of it comes Sticky Fingers. The riffs are ear worms, waiting to attack. The playing is razor sharp. The cover art is appropriately sleazy. The guitar solos - particularly Mick Taylor's on Can't You Hear Me Knocking - are masterful. The songs are all brilliant. Well, almost all the songs. I fear we need to talk about the racist, misogynistic, sadistic celebration of slavery that is "Brown Sugar". Musically it's a glorious thing. But if ever the lyrics WERE appropriate (and that's doubtful) time has not been kind. Even the Stones have decided to stop performing it. So this would have been 5 stars, but pro slavery, misogyny means it loses a star. And that's being generous.

Minhas favoritas foram: “Wild Horses”, “Can’t You Hear Me Knocking” e “Bitch”.

Classic rock, very influential, so many bands sound like this today

Me gustó mucho.

604/1001 2026.04.30 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑

Decent listen

Great, classic Stones album. Love "I Got the Blues" and "Moonlight Mile" on B side.

Nice album

Probably the best all around stones album I’ve heard from this list

Not bad

The Rolling Stones are obviously a massively influential band, and one of the most famous in the world, but this album is actually the first I’ve listened to from them. Wild horses blew me away, what a great song, and I’d never heard it before! The production helps keep the mood as well with each song like “Can’t You Hear Knocking”, the song is loud and quick as someone who needs a fix badly. Overall it has a pretty consistent sound, with some variance in structure, mood, writing, vocal style, and it really allows for an engaging and interesting listen.

----Favs: Wild horses, Bitch, I got the blues, Dead flowers----

I don't really know much about the rolling stones but they're pretty good here. Sound kinda like Geese in some ways with the guitar and such. I am liking the slower songs and the guy's voice is very expressive. wondering which one mick jagger is note: mick jagger is the guy whose voice i was praising earlier. awesome! fav tracks: Brown Sugar Sister Morphine Wild Horses

Three great songs (though Can You Hear Me Knocking should have been just half as long as it is…) but the rest are just okay. Favourites: Brown Sigar, Wild Horses and Can You Hear Me Knocking

The guitar….in this album…is insane. Good atmosphere - summery to me. Wild horses (ofc), I Got The Blues, and Sister Morphine are standouts here!!

Strong album by them! Not one I’d heard before but it sounded great.

Classic Rolling Stones record! Love this record, especially Side A with Wild Horses, Can't You Hear Me Knocking and Brown Sugar.

4/5 - A couple songs I knew and a lot that surprised me coming from the Rolling Stones

Cant you hear me knocking is one of my favorite songs ever

So this album makes me feel dirty. I mean it all starts with the album cover - yeesh. But I can’t help being a Stones fan. It’s like a dirty secret. So…

Never really listened to the rolling Stones. But is was very enjoyable, nice album. Very smooth, also really liked the sax/trompet sections

I loved wild horses and brown sugar

Another great classic!

Great album loved itt the beats omg the instrumental music amazing best heartbreak and karaoke kinda music I loved it

Dig this record

I’m not the biggest Stones fan, but I do like this one.

Awesome album.

I really like this album. 'Can't you hear me knockin'' is an absolute banger. I was a bit disappointed that, 'I got the blues' just missed for me.

Has taken me quite a while to decide on a rating for this one - I listened to it almost a week ago. Ultimately I was trying to decide on whether or not to drop it a star for "Brown Sugar", but I think I'm going to ignore that track on the basis that it was >50 years ago and the band have stated that they regret it. I have never previously given The Rolling Stones any attention, and I was expecting fairly generic dad-rock here, but I was pleasantly surprised. This album was actually quite interesting and genuinely enjoyable. Low 4.

I LOVE WILD HORSES

very good!

For a person who does not like the rolling stones , this album is really good. 4.5/5

1. Brown Sugar: Sonido super rolling. Buen tema. 8/10 2. Sway: Normalita, ni me gusta ni me disgusta. 6/10 3. Wild Horses: GRAN BALADA, super tranka y supero rollinga. 9/10 4. Can´t You Hear Me Knocking: Buen tema, normal. 7/10 5. You Gotta Move: Onda old west, me suena de tiktok. Me gusta. 7/10 6. Bitch: Se me hace medio onda Beatles tambien, no tanto, pero si encuentro cositas. 7/10 7. I Got The Blues: Baladita super tranka. 7/10 8. Sister Morphine: De vuelta medio old west, me gusta un poco más. 7,5/10 9. Dead Flowers: Super country la siento. me gusta. 7/10 10. Moonlight Mile: Canción de trankas, baladita chill. 7/10 Nota General: Me gusta, banda histórica.

Best of the Rolling Stones albums on the list so far

It's good! A refreshing amount of variety on the album and some good ol' fashioned rock classics. Fav tracks: Wild Horses, You Gotta Move, I Got The Blues, Sister Morphine

Classic rock “old school”. Good recording 44.1 / 24.

7 / 10 - klassischer blues rock - durchgehend sehr solide Favs: - Wild Horses - Bitch

It's rockin', and a lot of blues boppin'. I think this album displays the musical depth of the band and how diverse their influences are. Some all time greats and some others that don't quite live up to the reputation. It's still a good album that I can see myself coming back to.

Really enjoyable. Best one yet. Mick Jagger with some excellent vocals and some really well put together songs.

Top quality Stones album. Jagger does the blues very well in this album. The highlight of the album is definitely Wild Horses, but the rest (apart from You Gotta Move) is pretty great. One of their best.

Love it. Listened to it while gardening. More like Green Fingers am I right?

Another classic Stones album. Love this one, but it doesn’t hit the same highs for me as Let it Bleed or Exile. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Brown Sugar- 8/10 (idk why but the lyrics Make me feel super uncomfortable) Sway- 7/10 (3rd) Wild Horses- 8/10 (Fave) Can't You Hear Me Knocking- 8.5/10 (Fave) You Gotta Move- 8/10 (1st) B*tch- 9/10 (2nd) I Got the Blues- 9/10 (Fave) Sister Morphine- 9.5/10 Dead Flowers- 9/10 Moonlight Mile- 9/10 overall 8.5/10

I don't like the Rolling Stones much, but I do like a bunch of these songs. Sway and Dead Flowers are as good as they ever got.

Buenardo, bastante country para los rolling stones

Solid album, easy listening.

I have never listened carefully to a Rolling Stones album. I just knew the most popular songs and boy I gotta say this album was a very pleasant surprise. It was a journey through classic Rolling stone rock and Pink Floyd's progressive style. I loved this album, would recommend. Favorite song: Sway.

Wow, this is popular for a reason! Some amazing tunes here with some great instrumentation!

Loved it. Really good album

A strong rhythm and blues album. Great melodic.sounds. A classic.

Stones nästa bästa skiva. De har alltid starka öppningslåtar. Brown sugar tillhör absoluta toppskiktet i stenkatalogen. Dead flowers, Wild horses, Bitch, I got the blues måste också nämnas.

Wild Horses, Sweet Virginias inte riktigt lika snygga storasyster, Can’t you here me knocking, ett blues groove a la CCRs keep on chooglin, I got the blues soulballad i staxtappning. Det finns gott om guldkorn.

Very bluesy. Some fantastic songs and a few clunkers. 3.5/5

I’ve probably only listened a handful of times so I’m still getting to know this album, it has some great hits on here and *Can’t You Hear Me Knocking?* is a particular highlight, and this album leans firmly into blues which is always good in my book. Maybe this could be a 5 star over time but I enjoyed the first half more than the second on this listen.

It's good

It took some doing but yes this is the Rolling Stones album I could listen to more than once. Well done.

Good bluesy album. Mick is a great blues singer.

Some good blusey stuff. Timeless quality.

For some reason I didn’t think this would be good but I liked a lot of the songs on here, especially the last one

brown sugar should slap can't get over the lyrics didn't realize the stones were so damn solid sway kinda slams wild horses is a great ballad can't hear me knocking too long bitch rocks B-side is nice and mellow could grow very attached to it with more listens

Klassiekerrr, goed van te genieten

I’m starting to feel like once you listened to one Stones album, you’ve listened to them all. Good thing for them they’re all consistently good. “Wild Horses” is obviously really well known, but the final track “Moonlight Mile” really stood out to me. Still, I’ve yet to find an album of theirs that transcends really good to great. 4/5

Love the blues rock, love the filthy sax playing, a couple of the songs in the middle of the record are a bit lack lustre, but overall great listen.

Pretty good, above average Rolling Stones. Falls short of a 5 IMO.

Amazing

2 of my favourite songs ever are on this album. Except not the Stones versions. 2 of the best covers that ever were. But I guess they wouldn't exist without the originals so credit where it's due. This was really good and enjoyable and I'd totally throw this on any time. Stones are some of the best to do it.

Better than the previous stones albums I had.

Never was a huge fan of the Rolling Stones even though they dominated the air waves when I was young. So I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed this album!

Brilliant album - some bangers, some classics and some filler.

One of their best.

Well, I'm not a huge fan of the The Rolling Stones, this was enjoyable. ★★★★

Pretty decent enjoyed. Only really knew Brown Sugar and Wild Horses and whilst they were the standouts it was generally strong

There's an undeniable beauty in this album: The guitar pushing, the drums slowing it down. So much I'm constantly afraid the songs would fall apart. The stones not caring for studio perfection. The jam session in "can't you hear me knocking". Them getting tired of drugs. The album cover and the fights who's crotch it is. But still - would I listen to this again? Dunno. I can’t stand The Stones enough to keep this in heavy rotation.

Love it so far

Good album all-around, with exceptional guitar work by Keith Richards and great drumming by Charlie Watts. I like the Rolling Stones, but this was not my favorite overall showing of their prowess, as I felt the songs were a little bit repetitive (especially Mick Jagger), but it was an enjoyable listen. I would give this album a 4.5/5, but, since I would only give two of the songs a 5/5 (Brown Sugar and Wild Horses), I'll give this a 4/5.

This had some really solid tracks on it, I feel like The Stones are about as good as 60s rock gets. I know Zeppelin and Pink Floyd were starting up around this time, but I think that it took them until the 70s to really find the footing, whereas these guys have been solid from the jump. Also just looked it up and this came out in 71, which kinda dampens this section of the review, but just pretend that's not true. Favorites: Brown Sugar, Wild Horses, Sister Morphine

Pure Stones class

Impressive to be able to even play an instrument whilst ripped to the proverbials on that much gear, let alone produce such a solid rock album. Very tempted to give it full marks for Wild Horses, Brown Sugar and Can't you Hear me Knocking (what a standout turn from Mick Taylor) but maybe the drugs don't fully work on some other songs. A very fullsome 4*

The Stones are one of those bands that just flat out rock. The sound is always on point whether it’s with guitars, drums, horns, or tympani. I also believe the Stones are the South Park folks of the music industry that can get away with saying anything. Don’t believe me?? Read the lyrics to Brown Sugar and then remember it was written in the 70’s. Overall great listen and it reinforces my opinion that the Rolling Stones are a fantastic group that has withstood the test of time.

I don't think I've ever given the Stones a fair listen. Of course I know their hits, and I like them fine enough, but not a preference. My expectation of this album was "meh". Yet here I sit, a new fan. Enjoyed this far more than expected. Great groove, solid back beat rhythms, and nice bit of blues in the mix. Nicely composed album on the whole. Mick Jagger is the biggest surprise. I think of him as a caricature, but he was absolutely legit in his prime. I'm actually looking forward to more Stones.

C’mon, peak Stones. ‘Nuff said. And I’m not even that big a fan really.

Moonlight Mile <3

Classic Stones, bit of a golden period for them

I know very little about the stones other than by osmosis but Okay they can be pretty good

Album bien cool

Can’t You Hear Me Knocking remains one of the coolest songs ever written. The rest of the album was pretty good.

Eh kinda old, but easy to understand why it was so popular

Very good album but tbh you could shave like 30 seconds to a minute off every song

My rating 4.2. Great must if blues, rock, and country. Loved the horns and Hammond organ.

Classic Stones album, but I find their albums have excellent songs/singles supported by lots of filler. Liked Songs Added: Brown Sugar Wild Horses Bitch Dead Flowers

Maybe I said this when “Exile on Main Street” popped for me, but the “Beatles or Elvis” question always bugged me cause they both sorta suck and Rolling Stones is a better option than those two. I’m a Stones guy, and I say that without being a truly massive Stones fan. This record isn’t quite as good as Exile, but it’s not far off. But it’s still a good example of why that question presents a false dichotomy. Good music is good, and I’m not hating on the Beatles or Elvis (I don’t love either though), but there were always better options. The Rolling Stones were contemporaries, and were at least one of those better options. Sticky Fingers is a good example of why. 8.0/10

groovy

The band really stretch their wings trying a variety of styles and genres with quite a bit of success- jugband blues on "You Gotta Move," jazz fusion on "Can't You Hear Me Knocking," country pop on "Dead Flowers," and singer-songwriter on "Moonlight Mile." Only problem is the horrid "Brown Sugar" to open- the most racist classic rock song ever written?

Come on... one of the greatest! Though on this listen, I noticed I was a little bored by a couple of the tunes. I think Let It Bleed might be taking the lead for me for best Stones album.

Not my favorite Stones album, but close. Brown Sugar, Wild Horses and Bitch are classics, but the rest all bring something to the table as well. A very polished album.

dang dude 4/5

Great album. Excellent guitar tone. Surprised by the instrumental middle.

My favorite Stones record. Incredible start with 4 all-time classic tracks. The B-side doesn't quite live up to the same standard, while still being solid. 8/10

It feels weird to rate such an iconic album at less than a 5, especially when this was one of my dad's favourite albums. Some of the songs are brilliant, unbeatable, and then the sleazy blues arrive to beat you over the head and you realise that this isnt truly a great album, just a very good one.

This was my first full listen and I quite enjoyed the vibe of the album especially with that awesome saxophone. Definitely would listen to again and want to own a vinyl record of it in the future. Favorite Track: Can't You Hear Me Knocking Least Favorite Track: You Gotta Move ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

One of the four “ sweet spot “ albums of The Rolling Stones. Not the best but a solid 4 stars

Brown Sugar - 4/5 Sway - 4/5 Wild Horses - 4.5/5 Can't You Hear Me Knocking - 4/5 You Gotta Move - 3.5/5 Bitch - 5/5 I Got The Blues - 4.5/5 Sister Morphine - 4/5 Dead Flowers - 4.5/5 Moonlight Mile - 4/5

iconic for a reason highlights: Wild Horses, I Got the Blues, Dead Flowers

i didn't listen to all of this bc i fell asleep but i like it

I will reiterate my assertion that the Stones are at their best when they're not playing blues songs. Unfortunately, that's about half of the tracks on their albums of this period. I was going to give this one three stars, but oh man the last three tracks (Sister Morphine / Dead Flowers / Moonlight Mile) are absolutely fucking brilliant. I'm going to have to learn these on the ole guitar.

Good album. My expectations were high the album just missed them. Listening to wild horses before the album made me expect all of the songs to be at that caliber but they weren’t. Still good listen. 3.5/5

“Dead flowers” is my fav

8/10 My mother has been a Rolling Stones fan since the 70s, so I would forever shame her if I didn't like this album. Luckily I do. It's among the strongest of the 70s rock albums I've heard; every song is distinct, with rising action and appropriate climaxes; and nowhere do they fall prey to hubris by focusing too much on guitar solos or the music over vocals or what-have-you. It even flows nicely, working well as an album. My only complaint is that I don't think there's really a stand-out track - everything is on the same (strong) level, but there isn't anything I particularly want to relisten to. I'm curious about whether other albums by this band are any better (by my standards). Luckily this list likely has 57 albums by the band, so I'm sure I'll find out in a few hundred albums...

I don’t get it, some really great stuff and some incredibly generic stuff.

Horns! Fav track: Can’t You Hear Me Knocking

Always a banger. One of the best Stones albums

Great album second half was a bit weaker than the first but still had some good tracks

Very fun and bluesy record. It's not as out there as other albums, but it is very enjoyable, the songs flow very nicely and it has a couple of softer songs that blend well with the flow of the record. It's by the end of the 70s so the sound shifts a little. Very recommended!

this is a great album

Love it

A very strong album, rock and roll!!

Not the biggest Stones fan, but always appreciated that they bought a little grime to their lyrics vs. the relatively safe lyrics of the Beatles. And this is a great album. “Wild Horses” is one of my favorite songs of all time (The Sundays version is arguably better, but I like Mick’s heartfelt vocal performance here). Good mix of harder rock songs and solid ballads, a couple of which have a country feel.

Classic Rolling Stones. Great to understand where Wild Horses comes from

fav songs: sway wild horses can't you hear me knocking i got the blues dead flowers effortless, swaggy, jagger 80/100

this was such a fun album, really enjoyed listening to it!!

Prefer this version of the Stones compared to the other albums I've heard so far

Great album.

Feels like a heartbreaking record. Leaned into use of horns much more than earlier stuff. Creates their own genre of blues. Highlights: Sway, Wild Horses, Cant You Hear Me Knocking, Moonlight Mile

Still not the biggest Rolling Stones guy, but this is definitely their best album. Wild Horses, Can't You Hear Me Knocking, Bitch and Sister Morphine are all really solid. Still never really enjoyed Brown Sugar (the song).

every song was nice to listen to. Really liked the signature rock sound

Very good album, first side is better than second and still get annoyed by the sound of Jagger but solid 4

Wow - I'd never really heard a full Stones record from this time and I was immediately blown away by the music on the first three tracks (although not sure how I feel about lyrics on Brown Sugar) - the record doesn't stay at the same high but it is pretty exceptional, going with 4 *s

I listened to this three times over the weekend, so it must be decent. The standout tracks are superb: I already knew Brown Sugar and Wild Horses, but Sister Morphine and Dead Flowers are awesome too. But there is some real filler. You Gotta Move, Bitch... blah. I decided I would let the closing track decide my final rating for the album, and Moonlight Mile is great.

It's not my favourite Stones record, but I think its the record that most defines the band.

There's enough great stuff here to rate 4 stars (and enough blues rock to tempt me to rate it lower). Wild Horses is the highlight.

ja top eh

I do love this album, particularly wild horses, it's just a wonderful song and one of my favourites. The blues influences of RS are so clear, I love the snarly vocals of Mick and the sax, especially on Cant you Hear. It strikes a good balance between punchy songs and slow ballads like Wild Horses. Although I love Dead Flowers MJ goes a bit over with the honky tonk vocals IMO. And of course, Brown Sugar sounds amazing but the lyrics are repulsive :/

“Wild Horses” alone is almost enough for me to rate this 5/5. For me, opening up with brown sugar is good to get the most cringe song out of the way early. This album is incredible (except BS) so many great and underrated classics, the Mick Taylor era of Stones is my favourite and has the best run of albums. The genre and instrument blending on this is great and sounds so cohesive, but the core of the album is very American roots with gritty blues and country-rock, you can hear the pedal steel influence on tracks like dead flowers and Taylor’s impressive slide in “you gotta move”. I think that without the inclusion of Brown sugar this album would be perfect.

Absolute classic, many needle drops from film and tv, love the beggining and end

This is my third Stones album of the project. It also has the highest global rating of all six Stones albums. It's dirty and sleazy in a way that the Stones' older albums weren't, abandoning the 60s style of beat-driven blues for 70s barroom sleaze. The songwriting is good, with excellent riffs despite some lyrics being questionable if not downright gross("Brown Sugar"). The ballads are usually better than the rockers lyrically, but the rockers are more enjoyable to listen to for me. All told, a great album weighed down by some poorly aged tracks.

this is a great place to go for rock n roll and guitar and riffs and bluesy bits. classic and enjoyable but for me, not exceptional

letsgooooooo

I never know quite what to say about the Stones. I'm absolutely biased in favor of the Fab Four. Nonetheless, Sticky Fingers is a great sounding album packed with fantastically raunchy guitar playing and SOME wonderful songwriting. I can't quite get into some of their slow acoustic blues numbers. It doesn't give me anything in terms of emotion, and Mick can sound ridiculous - even hilarious - when he overdoes that blues affectation (e. g. "BRAAAAAING YU DAOWN").

Listening to this album and Brown Sugar plays. I remember the controversy around the lyrics as a kid. I heard them and I just shook my head. It’s just a cringy song. The music is okay but it’s whatever. Sure I have listened to many suspect things in my life but I have also gone back and realized it was terrible. Wild Horses is good. The album is really good. The album just rocks. There’s no denying that.

Good not great. There are some questionable lyrics on this album, but it’s from 1971 so what can you expect?

I actually had to relisten to this because I'm still so enthralled with Exile on Main Street that it has been hard for me to hear Sticky Fingers or Let It Bleed. I don't know much about the Stones, but these three albums seem to be such a natural progression with EoMS being the final product in this "era", similar to Time Out of Mind -> Love and Theft -> Modern Times ending on a high note too. Ultimately, this lands at 4 because it doesn't pack the groovy punch of EoMS, but has some really nice slow jams and bluesy-rock. Unrelated note - Spotify has these short reels that play in the desktop app for certain songs, and every time I looked at the short clips during this album, it was striking to me how uncool the Stones looked lol i only find that shocking bc they're known to be this incredibly cool band, but I only hear it - can't see it

I'm aware of Brown Sugar as a track that ages really poorly (was bad at the time too), but which is unfortunately also a banger. Otherwise, don't really know anything about this album, which it feels like I should. So should be fun. Listening notes: Review: I'm not crazy about the famous songs on this album. Thought it was cruising for a 3.5 or even 3 in the first bit. But the album tracks are really sometihng. Loved Sister Morphine and Dead Flowers (hate to concede that brits landed a pretty solid country song). I think that solidly got the stones to a better place.

Brown Sugar 4 Sway 3.8 Wild Horses 4.2 Can't You Hear Me Knocking 4 You Gotta Move 3.6 Bitch 3.7 I Got the Blues 3.5 Sister Morphine 3.6 Dead Flowers 3.4 Moonlight Mile 3.4 Score: 3.72

I feel like I will never succeed

Album already listened before; I'll give it another try to rate it. 4/5, I'm still more of a Beatles listener.

A classic

Had this album on cassette and used to listen to it all the time in my car. One of the Stones’ 70s best. NN Always grew up thinking the stones weren’t all that, but I’ve grown to see I was naive. They always sound like they’re having a blast and that makes for a giddy, nostalgic listen. (PS I was introduced to wild horses via the sundays so it’s always nice to return to the og) -Ruby

Great album which I may put on once a year or so. I only listen to 3 or 4 Stones albums and Exile is their 5 star album for me. Wild Horses while different from the bluesy them is one of their best.

In the running for the most iconic opening notes to an album ever. Don't have much to say this time except that I very much enjoyed this album. Not quite a 5, but definitely an album I will come back to.

great classic rock album

Classic bunch of songs. The Stones at their finest. Still prefer 'Exile on Main St' as an album. 9/10 [KEEP]

I liked this better than I thought I would. 4/5

So varied, just in the first four tracks. A joyous album, effortless switching between genres, yet cohesive throughout. There's attitude, but with quiet, soulful moments too.

Sadly I listened to this after seeing a photo of jagger in the Epstein files. Then he started the album singing about "young girls". Hmmm. If I try to get past that I really enjoyed the first half of this, a few hits I knew and the rest had some interesting rocky/grooving guitar work, fun times. The second half seemed largely forgettable. I could half done without it. If it was an ep of the first half I think I'd love it.

White horse <33333

It’s okay. A lot of filler for this short of an album

Meio cowboy sla.

Pretty feckin good. Not what I'd listen to normally, but I can respect it for being a very good version of what it is. First half does clear for me, maybe because by the end my patience for it was running thinner, which is more of a me-problem than an album problem. Pretty fecking good!

Wild Horses - always a banger Sister Morphine - new favorite

Am I too old for this? Dead Flowers is an outstanding song. The rest is fun to listen to.

favorite - wild horses 7/10

Third Stones album on this journey. My favorite so far. Love Brown Sugar, Wild Horses, and Knockin’. The rest are solid too.

I really loved this album! Wild horses has to be in my top 50 songs I listened to of all time! I’m only rating it a 4/5 because what are you talking about horse meat pie?! I thought we were saving the horses?! Now we are eating them?! Also to start off the song with brown sugar talking about a woman of color is wild. Other then that I enjoyed it!!

Very good

Fantastic

Yeah, obvs a great album but I swear I'm getting Rolling Stones fatigue now. There is more to life than blues. If I was writing this list I would enforce a strict 2 per artist cap. 7 / 10 Best track/s: Bitch, Dead Flowers, Wild Horses

Really cool, better than I was expecting. Such good grooves, even with the drums pretty low in the mix which was surprising. Two filler tracks I didn't really rate, sister morphine and you've gotta move, but can't you hear me knocking is a stone cold bop. Awesome guitar work and you can really hear big influences on Wilco and beck in tunes like midnight mile, will definitely give it more listens in the future

Peak stones. Hard to believe this is 55 years old.

Very good

A classic

My mom had this album where you could unzip the zipper to see tighty whitey’s. Little kid me thought it was so weird and gross. Flash forward to the Black Crowes Americana album with the pubic hair. Grown me liked that. And Ween’s album with the underboobs. I really don’t understand why I haven’t given these guys a real chance. Any album I’ve heard has been quite impressive. I think it’s because the Stones I was really introduced were the cheesy late 80’s type of stones that really got played on the lite rock stations. I need to make a note to bust through this catalog. This is just catchy. The only reason why I want to skip a song is because I’ve heard it numerous times and not by choice. Interesting tidbits for you. The first time I heard Dead Flowers was when Guns n Roses covered it. Same with Sympathy for the Devil. I heard GnR do it first. This album tapers off near the end. Dead Flowers saves it. Choice cut: Dead Flowers

Will take Susan Boyle's cover of Wild Horses any day. Such a dirge. Lots to like in the rest of this album though. Not too heavy on tedious blues riffs.

Despite Brown Sugar lyrics being very very questionable there is no disputing the quality of the track, Wild Horses a great tune. I do find myself questioning the general lyrics nowadays and think that it just wouldn't hold up in modern times now both in quality (e.g. I salivate like a Pavlov dog, Yeah when you lay me out, My heart is lounder than big bass drum, alright!!!) and in a pc world. (re Brown Sugar) but still it’s the Stones man!

Actually a really good album. I liked the jammy sessions and I also enjoyed the hits.

I had never listened to an album from the Rolling Stones before today, believe it or not! The closest thing I had to a genuine experience with the band in the past was that I watched the 12-12-12 Concert (in which the Stones performed "You Got Me Rocking" and "Jumpin' Jack Flash") on TV and bought the live album version on CD. I'm sure I heard "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" at some point as well, but I couldn't tell you exactly when or if it had even a modicum of impact on my music taste. Now I've written about the weight of expectations before, but that wasn't as much of a problem with Sticky Fingers for some reason – probably because modern critics and fans don't seem to worship the Rolling Stones to the same degree as Prince or Bowie. Either way, it seems like this was a good place to officially start my journey with the band (seeing as Sticky Fingers is their highest-rated album by the 1001 Albums Generator community)! I don't get to say this very often, but I got to listen to a near-perfect album today. Much like my first five (Joni Mitchell's Blue), Sticky Fingers isn't some mind-blowing conceptual work of art – it's just one great song after the next. There were a couple tunes I didn't immensely care for and the music generally didn't strike me as one-of-a-kind in the same way a lot of my favorites do, but this is pretty much as good as rock and roll gets for me. Definitely looking forward to more Rolling Stones in the future! Highlights: Brown Sugar, Sway, Wild Horses, Can't You Hear Me Knocking, B**ch, I Got the Blues, Sister Morphine, Dead Flowers

Very solid rock with big variations. Tough rocking tunes to mellow, sweeping sounds.

Pretty good album!

Good stuff

Late 60's/early 70's were the Golden era for the Stones. They had finally found their style and wrote most of their best guitar riffs and songs during that late Brian Jones and Mick Taylor period. Sticky fingers documents band at their peak and is top3 Rolling stones album for me.

I liked it. Definitely grew on me and I could see myself being in the mood to listen to this

Wild Horses is SO good!

Strong. Probably my second favorite Stones album

Another one about which reams have already been written. I'll say that one of the things that most surprises me whenever I listen to The Stones is how thin the sound is. Bill Wyman's bass has an enormous amount of room to breathe and both Jagger's vocals (somewhat nasal anyway) and the guitars of Jones and Richards all sound almost tinny and gutless. But, then, I came of age around the millennium, when a great number of guitar players favoured a thick, mid-heavy sound. Plus, Charlie Watts's kit has always been a pretty small jazz affair. Anyway, rest in peace, Bill -- they really leaned on you. Mostly just cool, bluesy rock with a couple good ballads. A standout for me is 'Can't You Hear Me Knocking: this showcases Richards's ability to write interesting, infectious, novel riffs, particularly when he's experimenting with open tunings (G, here). The jam at the end (genuinely spontaneous -- the he band thought recording had stopped) goes from sounding a bit like Santana to sounding like a major-key Luke's Wall, which is pretty cool. Shout out to the under-sung Billy Preston who really fleshes it out. Anyway, it's peak Stones. Most of their records aren't much more dense with classic singles and the deep cuts are just about as worthy as the ones that chart. Not too many songs come close to that intro and riff for 'Can't You Hear Me Knocking', though. 4/5

A good listen

Goooood 👌

I was never a big fan of the Rolling Stones, but this was their album I liked the most. It's just great rock 'n' roll, blues-rock, played and produced so well. None of the songs were really familiar but it holds well together as an album, the album itself doesn't overstay its welcome either. I like the druggy/psychedelic atmosphere to it too. The original album cover with the zip is creative. No perfect five stars as I didn't enjoy it as much as other 5-star albums but it must be listened to it once as it's a great and influential album.

loved the country-western B-side. Top tracks: Brown Sugar, Wild Horses, Can't You Hear Me Knockin, Bitch, Sister Morphine

I go back and forth on the Stones. Right now I'm in a Stones are Chill mode. Their 60s-70s transition albums are such a good mix of moods. You've got their blues rock bedrock laid underneath near every track but the longer they spent in California, the more countrified their music got. Some of their late 60s work I run hot or cold on but I find Sticky Fingers and Exile on Main Street to be remarkably consistent. Lots of ironic miserable aching on this one, everything tempered with dope blues arrangements and country twang. Favorite Tracks: Wild Horses, Bitch, I Got the Blues, Dead Flowers, Moonlight Mile

Great way to kick off Christmas week! AT YO DOOOOOOHWOAHWOAH

Fosho je dois réécouter pour rlly make my mind up.

Very good album

Good album. Classic Stones album and sounds. Notable tracks include Brown Sugar, Wild Horses, Can’t You Hear Me Knocking, Bitch, I Got The Blues, Moonlight Mile.

It's the Stones. That is all. One of my favorite collections. Listening with 2025 sensibility changes the ick factor of some of the lyrics that once didn't ick hard (Im talking to you Brown Sugar).: I still love it, separating my 80's self from '25. Guitar is unparalled and the sax and keyboard work keeps up. Listened before? Y Saved some tracks? Y Favorite tracks? Wild Horses, Bitch, I Got the Blues, ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Liked it a lot: saved a bunch of tracks

I should give it 5 for Dead Flowers alone but… not quite.

Second half of the album isn’t as good as the first half. Fav song is ‘Wild Horses’.

What an incredible album. Opening with a banger in Brown Sugar and then it just gets better. I've missed out by knowing just one song from this album!

Wild Horses

I love this era of the Stones. And between Wild Horses, and Can't You Hear Me Knocking... this album may be THE album? Love it.
