Reviews (page 8 of 8)

It's inevitable that the Kinks would get compared to the Beatles because they both had a very similar Baroque pop sound in the mid 60s. However, when the Beatles were putting out Revolver in 1966, the Kinks released Face to Face. Apart from Sunny Afternoon and the pretty album cover nothing on this album really sticks out or catches my attention though.

Rainy Day in June Holiday in Waikiki

Un tanto monocorde. Mismo ritmo en casi todas las canciones. Fácil de escuchar, pero un poco facilón

I'm sure I would've listened to these guys if I was alive in 1966, but today I simply get nothing from this album. A few decent tracks and a lot of below average ones. It's all just a little too dated for my liking.

Hey Siri what does foppish mean?

Alright sound but too generic 60s for me

This is something of a timepiece. I'm not sure that I could give it repeat listens. It sounds like a work in progress and an indicator for what was to come. Sunny Afternoon stands out, but the rest wasn't the high standard of a Kinks Greatest Hits. At least I now know where The Coral lifted most of their ideas from.

Think the person who put this list together has just done something like 'oh The Kinks, put their entire back catalogue on the list', because Face to Face is obviously the work of a skilled band and enjoyable in places, but not outstanding anywhere.

For those who wish Wes Anderson directed every movie. I'm a huge fan of The Kinks, but this is not their finest hour. I have to think "Sunny Afternoon" is the only reason it made the list. Sunny Afternoon aside, it's something of a snooze.

Sunday afternoon is a solid tune, but come on Kinks, you’re better than this.

Two Kinks albums in like a week? Felt like the other album was better. This doesn't do much for me.

I do not understand why this album is on the list. The Kinks (especially in the 60s) were a great singles band, but those best songs were usually not included on albums. And this album is a prime example of not containing singles; Sunny Afternoon is a bit of a classic, and A House in the Country got a bit of love during Britpop, but otherwise, these are not A-list songs from the Kinks. I have been reading pop music history for 40 years, and I don't think I have ever heard mention of this album. I rate the Kinks singles, but this album? Why the hell is this on the must-hear list? Someone has a fondness for 60s Kinks, and felt the need to include something, so they put this down. I honestly feel like it was a waste of time listening to this album. Not much to recommend. Get a Kinks singles compilation instead.

Sounds very dated, not much magic hidden here.

2/5 naaah

Rebuscado

Disappointing. There were a couple of songs I enjoyed.

Almost unlistenable.

Didn’t really enjoy it but glad for the listen.

Not the beatles

we'll see... ug. 2?

Was ok few good songs

All right I suppose.

Känner mig rätt likgiltig inför detta album, har verkligen ingen åsikt, varken bra eller dålig kritik att dela ut...

pretty pringle but doesn't really bingle my tingle

There's better Kinks albums than this one

liked this, but nothing spectacular

Meh, Sunny Afternoon has always been enjoyable to me but otherwise nothing really stands out here for me 🤷🏼‍♂️

Nothing stood out as exceptional or noteworthy. Decent album but it didn’t leave much of an impression on me

Nah. ⭐️⭐️

Viiiiele Tracks. Wenig für die Ewigkeit.

Overall enjoyable but needs more variation - blends into an indiscernible amalgam of Beatle-esque jangle pop after a while.

Just a bit rubbish

It was okay.

Questo disco non riesce ad arrivarmi, suona troppo distante nel tempo e monotono. Ho fatto molta fatica a finirlo.

Wasn’t very impressed by this album.

Not one of my top 100 bands

Didn't enjoy

couple of good tracks but quite samey and didn't really connect with the 'concept album' thing. 2.

Pretty fun baroque pop album, but not for me. (aaaaa too many mixes)

Didnt get much of a chance to listen but also dont want to go back and listen, so maybe a 3

This felt unremarkable.

gave up after a couple of songs. seemed fine. beatles esque

Decent, but would rather be listening to the beatles.

A few decent tracks, but generally not really my bag. Stand out tracks: Rainy Day in June Fancy Sunny Afternoon

Older beatles ? Dunno

Didn’t like this one as much as the other Kinks album. Idk

Äh decent

Ugh one hit in the whole album.

Everything sounds bad. Bad recordings of stupid songs. Too much harpsichord. Annoying

I hate the sound of everything

The sixties....please let me out....please............

I am sick to death of 60s era British rock albums. Once you heard one you truly have heard them all. I don’t care if this is considered one of Rock music’s first concept albums it isn’t good.

sounds bland

Ugh... third day in a row of 60's British rock... Look, the algorithm can't be held accountable for what's on this questionable list, but it certainly can be blamed for the order it queues this shit up. Do better. Of these last three albums, this is easily the worst - so, I can confidently toss this dross a 1.

What a waste of an entry. Just give me another Beatles album that I can rate moderately high. That would cover this genre finely enough, and won’t be so offensive.

I actively dislike this. Satire with no poetry. The instrumentation is mechanical and the vocals are uninteresting. Too many vocal melodies sound the same. Bad record, desperately wanted it to be over by song nine. Village Green is *so* much better.

It had some nice vocal lines but it's not enough. It's just Beatles reloaded. The blessing for Beatles is the curse for most 60s same sounding bands, because they did it first. Also they did it a bit better.

Highly parochial and backwards looking sixties stuff. Nice enough melodies but nothing interesting.

Just really boring.

Zuviel 60s

Nightmare.

Not my cup of tea

Jako loše. Veselim se nekom dobrom albumu for a change. 1/5, 1/10

The Kinks? I thought this was the Beatles. Or the Monkees. Or any one of half a dozen crap British pop bands from the era. This does not belong on the list.

60's England, clearly, did not put out a lot of quality rock bands. I haven't forgotten about the Rolling Stones or the Who, but with competition like The Kinks, I completely understand why people latched onto The Beatles. Boring as shit. There are some decent vocal performances, but I can't stand The Kinks. "House in the Country" sounds like a Stones ripoff

taxes too high and shit music, they were ahead of their time

Mum: We have The Beatles at home

beatles parempi..

Brain fryer

I think I enjoyed one song. Not my cup of tea (get it? They're English...)

This sounds like value brand Beatles… Seeing how I don’t really enjoy the original flavor I’m surprisingly not into this either. I was going to say 2 stars since it didn’t actively annoy me but after 11 songs I had to move on so I’m dropping this one down to 1 star. I did go and listen to Face to Face the band afterwards so there is that.

I really wanted this to be less like the Beatles and more like their self-titled item (a little more garage rock). I did not like this album and I knew I wasn't gonna like it based on the album cover ----

Kinda shit, too old of music I couldn’t even really finish it. 1/5

I didn't think it was that incredible. The Kinks can write and record a good song but their albums are always lackluster.

Dated banal lyrics trying to be the beatles (no caps).

Not for me.

A bit like The Beatles. A bit like The Grateful Dead. Chill vibes. All that being said, this one just wasn’t my cup of tea.

Nothing to write home about

0.5/5 unlistenable

Pretty forgettable, tbh.

Album you hear 1001 milliseconds before you die. This shit is so bad it makes me want to commit sudoku. Genuinely the worst entry on this list by far (so far), I have absolutely no fucking clue why this is on the list.

I don’t think this has aged well. Not my thing.

This album is meh, didn't really like any of the songs, but I didn't hate them either. It was just kinda like noise going into my ear. Favorite song: Little queen of darkness Worst song: Session man

Glaube war nicht meins, eingeschlafen. Eher so school-indie/Pop punk

Ducking atrocious

(1.8) I like a few songs from The Kinks, unfortunately they are not on this album.

Not a fan. Seems vapid, at best

Didn't like it

The unsurprising boring, bland, generic sound of the 60's.

Typical 60's British invasion rock. I enjoy it sometimes but 20 tracks? Couldn't finish every song.

Well, looks like I still don't like 60's music. I'm sure this is great, but it's not my bag.

I'm really just not a fan of the British Invasion, with the exception of The Who

More fun than I was expecting, I thought that this would be more punk but it's more like the Beatles.

Vibezinha yellow submatine massa. Curti!!
