Reviews (page 10 of 14)

One of the most influential albums in rock. Great example of the talent that this band possesses. Not something that sticks with me personally but not something to downplay either.

goes hard as expected

Led Zeppelin starts you do the road of what would later become heavy metal

Sadly I was pretty distracted while listening and it didn't leave as strong as impression as a result. But I think I liked it?

With how many people praise Led Zeppelin and because I really like Metal and Hard Rock, I was expecting to be blown away by this album. I was not. It was good, but I did not enjoy a single song enough to listen to it again or even it to one of my playlists. If I had been around when the album first came out, I could have seen myself becoming a huge fan of the band, but today it barely makes 4 stars.

I mean, it's literally what you think of when you think of classic rock, late 60 blues born from traditional folk songs, not as good as the discography that would follow it, but a solid foundation with some serious grooves.

ja lekker

This was a pleasant reprieve from the new. It was a comfortable familiarity that was most welcome after ABBA. I did notice how much more interesting this music was, how much more there was to listen to. I loved the conversational aspect of the multiple voices.

excellent

Good Times Bad times felt like it could have gone longer. Dazed and Confused is great when it all kicks off. I'd never listened to this album before, having really only heard the Zep "hits" and I enjoyed it quite a bit more than I expected to.

Its basic zeppelin

One that I definitely thought I was already tired of going into it but I found even more to love about it. As overplayed as the hits are on this one the context of the whole album makes them sound so much better. Still a few too many and too long blues covers to be a full 5 stars but a classic for sure.

great album, extremely easy listen

solid album. led zepp twice in the first week is a testament to how committed and talented they were

This is less of an album and more of a mission statement in album form. A lot of these songs are covers and extended jams where Zeppelin is testing out what they can do in the studio and what works for them. It's a really good album, but I do feel the following albums are better. I think if I told someone to listen to Zeppelin then I would have them start with Zoso or with Zeppelin III. Zeppelin I is a test to show they play their brand of blues and omits a lot of what makes the band great, even on Zeppelin II. These are not derivative blues but the band had not found their voice yet.

I can see the phenomenon

Classic debut by England's groundbreaking blues-rock band. Not their best album, but other bands can only dream of opening with this banger.

classic

Ignoring the controversy with “Dazed and Confused”, this album is excellent (especially considering they spent a total of 30 hours in the studio recording it).

You can't go wrong with Led Zeppelin although I am ashamed to admit I have not sought out their complete albums. This was a great listen and I'm glad the 1001 had us listen to it.

This was good. I don't necessarily like the screechy vocals, but this is good music and a major advancement in technical guitar playing for the genre of rock. Favorite tracks are: Your Time is Gonna Come, and I Can't Quit You Baby.

Led Zeppelin is the first band I can remember thinking of as cool. When I was too young to have any input on what to listen to, some of the classic Zeppelin jams were my favorites when they came on the radio, and either 97.5 or 98.5 had a weekly "Get the Led Out" hour where they would play nothing but. That said, this specific set of songs is probably a 3.5 for me, but I'll round up to a 4 for both nostalgia and what I assume was an original sound in '69. Also rounding up since it was released in '69.

I thought I didnt like Led Zeppelin but it tourns out they have some amazing albums who wouldve thought

Good Times Bad Times - 8/10 Babe, I'm Gonna Leave You - 8/10 You Shook Me - 8/10 Dazed and Confused - 9/10 Your Time Is Gonna Come - 8/10 Black Mountain Side - 7.5/10 Communication Breakdown - 8.5/10 I Can't Quit You Baby - 8/10 How Many More Times - 8/10 TOTAL - 73/90

Decenttttt considering it was from the 1960-70s.

Fav: How Many More Times

Really enjoyed this one actually, classic from growing up and still love the guitars and ole Plant

Such a classic. Does it get better than this?

Banger album. Plant’s voice is ok but Pages guitar makes up for it

Probably like a lot of people, this album was not how I discovered Led Zeppelin. The first album of theirs I ever heard was Led Zeppelin 2. I only heard this album later. To be honest, I haven't listened to it for years, but hearing it again was great. There were all sorts of subtleties that I had either forgotten about or only discovered now. A great, bluesy Led Zeppelin album.

Not a fan of classic rock but this was better than expected. More unique than the Zeppelin I've heard on the radio.

4 nicht schlecht nicht ganz meines

Está weno, me gusta y los he escuchado en Guardianes de la galaxia y en Supernatural

Really enjoyed a couple songs and the whole album as a whole was rocking

ah, led zeppelin I, where it all began. the hard rock titans started their career as basically a heavy blues band, which is what their debut essentially is. but what a debut it was. highlights: “good times bad times”, “babe i’m gonna leave you”, “dazed and confused”, “communication breakdown”.

Very welcome listen after the previous album. Not sure there's much left I can say about Zeppelin I haven't already mentioned, but the appreciation for these guys have grown as I've gotten older. This entire album, well not the biggest fan of the instrumental, was solid from beginning. Got some rockers, got some bluesy rock and got some deep cuts. I can't say this has my favorite songs, but again, all were solid. Forgotten song that quickly became my favorite off this album, How Many More Times. Something about the music and riffs I really enjoyed. Classis, very good stuff. 4

I'm not proud to admit this but when I first heard this in 9th grade I cried. Then I found out it was largely ripped off and I never felt again. Today though I still really enjoy this one. Controversies aside this is a really cool album and when you put it in context of the time it came out, you can totally see how this was one of the albums to create entire genres of hard rock music. A little played out these days which is why it's not higher on my favorites by the band. 4

4.5 This site is really on a Zeppelin kick lately. Fortunately, this happens to be one of their best - for a debut, holy cow did these guys come in swinging. Yeah, just about everything here is lifted from Jimmy Page’s days with the Yardbirds, but dammit if it wasn’t ripped off to the best possible degree. It’s not quite the level of stuff that would put them at godlike status in the decade ahead, but all the traces are here. The interpretation of blues is fantastic, production is ingenious, the sound varied, the flow seamless, it opens and closes on an epic note - I don’t have anything negative to say about this album. So, I really had to think about my rating with this one - I went in planning to give a 4 and walked away thinking this could be a 5. This is one of those albums that I always seem to forget just how great it is. Of course it has classics like Good Times Bad Times, Communication Breakdown, and Dazed and Confused, but Your Time is Gonna Come, How Many More Times, You Shook Me, Babe I’m Gonna Leave You, and hell, even the instrumental track Black Mountain Side? All bangers - there’s not a bad track to be found anywhere. So, you could probably argue that that warrants a 5, but I do think it’s juuust outside the category of perfection for me, so I’m going to go in the middle and say 4.5. Like their fourth self-titled effort though, I wouldn’t argue against a 5 rating here - bands have entire career runs without ever having an album as great as the one Led Zeppelin started with.

Shameless pilfering aside, just a classic debut! That sort of energy of a band wanting to prove their mettle makes for some truly memorable performances, most notably from Bonham and Page. Perhaps a bit frontloaded on side 1 compared to side 2, but the record is still great all around!

Alt rock is my jam. Probably won't listen again but I liked the radio that followed the album.

Robert plants voice is excellent but cold. Nevertheless, this is a classic, extraordinarily conceived, massively influential and satisfying.

4/5 a few weak songs but mostly bangers.

Phone, office, first time, not single sitting, FT: Dazed and Confused

Best songs:your time is gonna come, communication breakdown, dazed and confused Music for being a boomer. Music for air guitaring and running fast

Good Times Bad Times; Great song, Guitar from 1:30 sounds amazing, perfect placement in the album as well. Babe I'm Gonna Leave You; Was my favourite song at one point, carried by Robert Plant's vocals but great drums and guitar as well, I've kinda overplayed in now but still amazing You Shook Me; I fucking hate this song, the only good part is when Robert Plant shuts the fuck up from 2:05-4:55, but even that is ruined by random autistic screeching by Plant. Might be the only song I've ever heard that would've been better without vocals. Also the Outro from 5:35 is shit, why tf is he trying to mimic an electric guitar, just stfu. Dazed and Confused; One of the best bass lines I've ever heard in a song. Amazing Guitar Solo. Another song that's best when Robert Plant isn't doing anything, but only because the instrumental parts are so good. Your Time Is Gonna Come; Relatively chill song for the album, kinda weird how much of the outro goes so far into Black Mountain Side, it makes the song end kinda suddenly when listening to it as a single, but it makes the transition between the two songs great when listening to the whole album. Black Mountain Side; Great instrumental song Communication Breakdown; Great song with the best guitar solo on the album imo, lyrics are kinda repetitive but not in a bad way I Can't Quit You Baby; Great song, but the soundcheck version of Coda is a lot better when they let Jimmy Page go crazy on guitar. Still has a great guitar solo, really good drums and a solid bass line. How Many More Times; Great riff and guitar, but the rest of the song is pretty mid imo Best Songs: Good Times Bad Times, Babe I'm Gonna Leave You, Dazed and Confused, Your Time Is Gonna Come, Communication Breakdown, I Can't Quit You Baby Worst Song: You Shook Me

A true classic. I was eleven years old when this album came out. What a jolt! Such great music came out in this period, a new path from the Beatles dominated 60’s

I liked it, but it was def on the weirder side. I think if the guitar was toned down a little and the songs were cut a little shorter I would enjoy it much more.

Such a good album, especially considering it’s their debut album.

Favourite songs: Communication Breakdown, Dazed and Confused, Good Times Bad Times, Least favourite songs: You Shook Me 4/5

Good Times, Comm brkdwn, DnC

Liked good times and bad, communication breakdown

Some very fun, big, nimble riffs. And obviously the drumming is sick af. Some of the bluesy stuff feels a bit rote.

Once again Led Zeppelin delivers a high quality album. There are definitely songs here that wouldn't be considered Zeppelin's top ones, but the overall bar is still very high. Songs like 'Good Times Bad Times' and 'Communication Breakdown' are probably my favorite ones on the album.

Hits right in the high school heart

What can you say? It's Led Zeppelin. For pure listening pleasure it's average for me and my own personal tastes, but gets an automatic extra star because, you know, Zeppelin.

Boys knew what they were doing

Great debut album, not really bad tunes in there. Maybe Plant and Page are not my style, specially Page doesn't get me, but I can't say nothing really bad about this album, for being a debut album there is my 4*

Super strong blues rock influenced monster song oeuvre which I used to dislike by not understanding its segue between old timers and young guns. Pretty amazing and pure shit! 4.4

Ok, am I finally getting Zeppelin? On their first album? Opening really grabbed me, then went off the boil a bit with You Shook Me (no ACDC is it). Back on with Your Time Is Gonna Come. No to the solo track. Yes to Communication Breakdown. Ah more blues, apparently I don't like the bluesy ones. Ugh and that the last track wangs on. It's getting 4 only because it's better than the other Zeppelins.

Really good album from start to finish. Great guitar tones throughout

4.3 a great album overall, some songs are a bit samey tho. fave songs: good times bad times, your time is gonna come

I liked this more than Led Zep II, which I had earlier - I think I'm starting to 'get' them. It sounds better when you listen to it outside, I think late summer was a good time to get this album. BT - Babe I'm Gonna Leave You - Dazed and Confused - Your Time is Gonna Come - Black Mountain Side - Communication Breakdown

They reinvented the blues and made them even cooler. The one-two punch of "Good Times Bad Times" and "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" that kicks this album off had to feel like a major paradigm shift in the rock world. But I still don't think this is a perfect album. A few forgettable ones here. And has anyone noticed how much they rip off Greta Van Fleet's sound?

Classic

This is a tough one to rate. On one hand, I'm really not a fan of the overall sound and the influence of 12-bar blues. On the other hand, there are so many elements that make it such a solid album that it's hard not to respect. This album utilizes the best organ (both in sound quality and technique) that I've heard so far. I also love the instrumental track and the vibe there. And Babe I'm Gonna Leave You is masterful enough to elevate the album on its own. While I may not be as quick to listen to this again as other albums I put on this tier, the quality is undeniable. And if nothing else, we'll bump it up to a 4 because of the cover art.

The hardest rock had ever rocked at the time. I’ve heard this album before and I wouldn’t say I love it, I can’t put my finger on why, but I still like it a lot. Bonham’s drumming is crazy. Best song: Dazed and Confused

Classic

We have to thank Led Zeppelin for taking hard rock and giving it a much-needed edge. While it's still very blue-rock in it's nature, the distorted guitar tone, hard-hitting drums, and impactful dynamism in their songwriting had elevated the genre to make it so much better. Good Times Bad Times, Dazed and Confused, and Communication Breakdown all emphasizes these elements to a great degree, and all on the band's debut album! In between the heaviest moments on the album are quieter interludes which are a nice bit of pacing, either as seperate songs or within the song itself. Page and the boys had a great handle on what made the genre rock and how to maks it rock even more. That's quality.

Solid instrumentals and vocals. I get why people give it a 5/5, but this music isn't my cup of tea. Went in with an open mind and this is what came out.

This was a very pleasant listen, old school rock and blues vibes coming through with some really good riffs throughout.

First time i properly listened to LZ, but this was really good.

One of the best debut albums in music history. A badass blend of blues and hard rock. Standout tracks: Good Times Bad Times, Dazed and Confused, Your Time Is Gonna Come, Black Mountain Side, and Communication Breakdown.

Very good album! Some of the song go on for too long with the same structure but overall very good

I almost feel like reviewing this album is a moot point. Every song is in the public conscious. What's impressive is the fact it is the debut. Such a realised sound. I'm not the biggest fan of the Zep sound in general, but you can't deny the power of the album.

Great album with hit after hit. I always think about how I don't listen to Led Zeppelin enough (since I don't listen to their albums often), but every time I go to listen to an album I recognize nearly every song. Great vocals, guitar, drums, and bass. I love the inclusion of organ and some other instruments in there as well. Minus 1 star for having a lot of rip offs on this album. NOT Cool Led Zeppelin!

The Led Zep that started it all. This is an amazing first album. I think if you listened to this first and knew they would make better albums you wouldn’t be able to believe it because this is a very solid album. Super late 60s and they’re jamming hard rock to what some say is early metal. Whatever you call it l, it’s awesome and it rocks. This isn’t their best album though so in the grand scheme of things it does get dropped a little bit. Probably ranked right there with physical graffiti but for vastly different reasons. This album was hard rock and to the point. 8.2/10

Great debut album. Controversial view reinforced here, that the remarkable musicians in the band were not Page and Plant, but Bonham and Jones. The drumming from the very start is just remarkable. There's a (mercifully brief) sitarish track so could never be five stars, but definitely 4.4.

4/5 Best: Good Times Bad Times Worst: You Shook Me

Led Zeppelin's self-titled debut album is a monumental work that laid the foundation for their legendary career. Released in 1969, it introduced the world to their groundbreaking sound, blending blues, rock, and folk influences. Tracks like "Dazed and Confused" and "Good Times Bad Times" showcase the band's virtuosity and raw power. The album's production is raw yet captivating, allowing each instrument to shine. While some tracks may lack the same level of innovation as their later releases, Led Zeppelin's self-titled record is a potent statement of their immense talent and set the stage for their future musical conquests. A must-listen for rock music enthusiasts.

It didn’t have too many memorable songs, but they all sounded pretty good. Yeah they stole a lot, but their music is still great. Looking forward to the rest of the albums.

Fantastic. You can't go wrong with Zeppelin.

Not my favourite Zeppelin album by any means, but it's still Zeppelin.

Album #2 What an amazing start to a legendary band. Still think they have better albums (Led Zeppelin IV) but when this came out in 1969 few were as heavy and hard rocking as this. Although there is great material on here, I wish some songs were cut a couple minutes, songs such as "You Shook Me" and "How Many More Times" meander a bit too much and don't deserve their song length. Other than that, I don't really have any complaints. Everyone's performance on this project is amazing but Jimmy Pages bluesy riffs and John Bonhams frantic yet disciplined drumming are the big standouts. Favorite Track: Dazed and Confused

Some pretty epic hits on here. Prefer this one way more the Zep 3

It’s early Led Zep, what’s not to love ? It has certainly aged well. It doesn’t sound as though it was recorded in the 60s. An easy 4*

Almost by default.

Não é meu rock favorito, mas é bem bom

A great collection of bangers. Some of their greats, with interesting fluff around it.

Need to listen still. Assuming the rating from what I’ve already heard before.

yayyyy

Pretty damn great.

A good album without being great, signs of whats to come from the band. Good Times Bad Times and Dazed and Confused are mega hits and deservedly so.

I think this is the last Led Zeppelin album I’m going to get on this list and it’s honestly a sad one to end on because instead of it feeling like a young band that’s rough around the edges it’s just more of the same after hearing far better work. Like yeah this is all well and good hard blues rock but I’ve already listened to Led Zeppelin 2 and stairway to heaven. I know the list should be random but for albums like this I wish I could’ve gotten them in order.

A classic, but more chaotic than a lot of their later stuff so it loses a point. Also it’s hard to separate the music from what we’ve since learned about the band

Not quite as sharp as future Zeppelin work but dang! What an incredible debut album! Fantastic music and good variety

When a debut album is better than any album other bands release you know the band is good. This was about as good as you can get for a debut album.

This is an amazing debut record that Zeppelin was able to build upon for success after success in their repertoire. It sets the foundation for their future and probably deserves more credit than it gets. As a personal preference it has a few songs that fall a bit under the “outstanding” level, but a great album nonetheless.

Banger love me some zeppelin

Contains two of my favourite LZ songs (2 and 4), overall solid bluesy rock and nice singing by Plant. Nevertheless, just like the other albums just doesn´t feel like a 5 start album.

Truly enjoyable debut album.

Outstanding but they refine further

etourdie et confuse

An amazing rock album and a monster of a debut. A good start to a great carreer.

veel rifs gehoord van anderen bands dus duidelijk influencial

Nog n classic, grondleggers wel.

beetje blues rock.

I love Led Zeppelin I love Led Zeppelin I freaking love them. There is at least one song on every album that never fails to scratch an itch in my earballs just right ('Babe I'm Gonna Leave You'). I can't in good conscious give this a 5 while informed that Led Zeppelin IV exists and still requires my validation. But this is a very high four, no doubt I will be second guessing myself.

Ok let's be straight up, every album of Led Zeppelin's on this list is a 4 or 5. It's a shame they only lasted 12 years. Personally I'm not a self proclaimed fan of theirs, but their music is still amazing. Every member of the band is spectacularly skilled and it shows on this album. They grab your attention from the first note and never let go of it, even with 5+ minute long songs. However, this album to me is missing the sort of pizzazz I'm looking for in a 5 star. Very very close though. I'm pretty sure my 5 star ratings will go to II and IV, but stay tuned for any surprises.

One of the first albums I ever bought on vinyl. "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" used to be my favorite Led Zeppelin song. The last time I listened to this top to bottom was on vinyl years ago. This time, "Your Time is Gonna Come" really stuck out to me.

Once again… who hasn’t heard this one. 8/10

Bluesy rock

Not my favourite Led Zeppelin album (I’m particularly partial to Led Zeppelin III), but all Led Zeppelin tends to be good Led Zeppelin, even their debut. Fav tracks: Babe I’m Gonna Leave You, You Shook Me, I Can’t Quit You Baby Least fav tracks: Good Times Bad Times, How Many More Times

Very bluesy, lots of high energy

The album that started it all. Not as cohesive as later efforts, but it has some great moments that foreshadow the monumental albums of the Seventies.

Yep, apart from two full blues stodges, this album rocks brilliantly. Communication Breakdown is one of the greatest rock songs of all time. And Dazed and Confused is great in the complete opposite way. Almost pompously bloated but it works a treat. If it weren't for the two dull bluesy jams, this would be one of the greatest albums ever. With them, we have to wait for Zep II

call and response part between page and plant is cringey but other than that it’s good

The front of this is great. The back falls off slightly which for me drags it just down from a 5.

Klasyk

Great album, shame about the noncing

Listened to on 2/28/23 4/5 Favorite song: how many more times I love Led Zepplin and this album did not disappoint but isn’t as good as IV

As are all Led Zeppelin albums, this was a good one. Communication Breakdown is my favorite on this one. It’s just tough to compete with II and IV.

There is some classic Zeppelin here, legendary riffs and vocals and strong hard rock and metal blueprints. But not quite as epic as their later work, as it is still reliant in the blues standards and basics that seems quite “done”, though Page’s diversity is on full display.

Good album however the last real wow factor is missing for me here, especially when it comes from a big name like Led Zeppelin

why is this sparbossa energy,.,.,. babe x6 sickest guitar solo ull ever hear

Rock suave. Un 4.

Solid influential debut by overrated ratty-haired wannabe bluesmen.

Finally had a chance to listen to it.

Je commence à reprendre goût à Led Zeppelin avec les albums que j'ai eu. Très bon album, beaucoup de classiques incontournables du band.

Babe I’m Gonna Leave You

A marriage of rock and blues by people who can actually play instruments Iford a rich sound and vibe. Really enjoyed this, their first, album.

pretty lit, dadddddd rock. 7/10

I sometimes forget how great a band's debut can be. Especially considering the rest of Led Zeppelin's catalogue. Really powerful sound. Every song has a moment that made me stop and listen closely. Songs like Communication Breakdown help me understand why some punk artists and bands were big fans of Led Zeppelin and cite them as an influence. The little drum fills were instantly recognizable, but foreign as I hear them most in punk elsewhere. Playing with speed. Punk Zeppelin.

A classic. I’m prejudiced against led zepplin as a whole but still loved the songs on this album. Ill come back to a few of them for sure.

An undeniably powerful and heavy debut.

Haven't heard a lot of these tracks, but defnitely a very strong debut. I kind of enjoy the production with the bleeding of vocals into other tracks with a few rough edges left in, definitely has more "oomph" for me this way.

It’s Led fucking Zeppelin. Top to bottom the musicianship and songwriting are great. Everything sounds incredible because the production while not top notch is mixed excellently. An album that stands out in a year full of stand outs.

Quite enjoyed this. Often Led Zep stresses me out - loud, shouty, headache inducing. Sure, the odd fat lick but also often boring and kind of directionless. Did mind this one though, still not a fan but not unpleasant.

Loved it. Already in my rotation.

Almost impossible to believe this came from 1969...

Rip Bonzo

Not their best but certainly a solid entry in their catalogue. I think they were still finding their footing here but you can already see the makings of a classic band.

Love this album. The recent remastered edition is even better, and not just because it credits the actual songwriters!

Was very late to the Led Zeppelin train (think that’s called super off peak in train terms), only giving them a proper listen in my mid twenties. Boss sound that’s very recognisable. Enjoyed this one

This album was my first Led Zepplin album and I am very upset I have gone 32 years without getting on them. This album was a belter.

For my first time listening to Led Zeppelin I was pleasantly surprised, even after all the praise I’ve heard, still I underestimated this band. I could see myself calling this a 5-star album in the future, I just need to sit with it a while longer for that to happen. Nevertheless, this album is amazing. Everything is done so brilliantly. From song structure, to instrumentation, to vocals, all of it is being done at the highest level and that makes for one hell of a debut. There is so much nuance to these songs. For example, the band knows when to be patient, when to speed it up, when to turn left, or right etc. The sheer number of ideas on this album make me very excited to hear more from Led Zeppelin.

Obviously great. I wish I could give it 4.5 starts.

The first in a long line of incredible music that shaped a generation, and forged new paths in rock and roll. Hard to beat.

I know this is an all-time great album, but I didn't absolutely love it.

A very good start but not quite a great album for me. Led Zeppelin seem to be overrepresented in the 1001, this is one I would have dropped. But 4 stars nevertheless.

4.75/5 Some absolutely filthy classic rock. -.25 for the slower bluesy jams that don’t work as well as future attempts do

What more can you say that hasn't already been said... The album that launched a thousand riffs. All four of them showing that they were masters of their craft. Turn it up to 11 (even on the school run)

Leave it to Led Zeppelin to already sound like veterans on their debut album, They got their sound down really early on, and everything comes together to form something really special - from the catchy, bluesy guitars, to Bonham's insane drumming, and Robert Plant's unmistakable voice. Lots of standouts here, but I particularly loved You Shook Me, Communication Breakdown, and How Many More Times. The only reason this isn't a five-star album is because I know that their latter work gets even better. But for a first record, it's already oh, so close!

8/10 a lot of great hymns

There is plenty of filler, it's derivative and the lyrics leave some to be desired; but with LZ, Zep started something that would come to open the gates for so many genres and bands. For that, it's timeless

Closing track bumped it from 3 to 4. They all clearly know how to play their shit. lyrically lacks big time

amazing debut, great mixing

Today's Led Zep is predictably top stuff. Maybe not a 5 because it's short of something that elevates it into superior air though Your Time Is Gonna Come gets damn close.

This is consistently very very good, but not quite great - lacking really memorable standout tracks. But, blimey, what a debut! Not a bad song on there, although it does suffer from the same issue as every Led Zeppelin album imo, it's almost all a little bit too long and drawn out, could be a bit tighter. Otherwise, it's great, like the bluesy style, feels very much like a British CCR. 4/5.

Classic

My favorite led zeppelin album to listen front to back.

Classic riffs, guitar solos, drum fills. Babe I’m Gonna Leave you is awesome, fun to play on guitar. They were still figuring out what their band could do, clearing blues songs from their back catalogue, and they hadn’t yet discovered their mystical side or funky side.

i didn't hate it i enjoyed it nice Highlights: - Good times Bad times - Babe i'm gonna leave you - Dazed and Confused

A phenomenal album that still only scratched the surface of what was to come from one of the bands that defined Heavy Metal/Hard Rock. I've often heard that every band in these genres can trace their roots to wither Led Zeppelin or Black Sabbath. Discovered this album when I was about 15 and 30+ years later it still comes out regularly.

I've always loved the Zep and they were a huge influence on my guitar playing growing up. Bluesy, stompy, noodly guitars, that's good. The noodling gets self indulgent - which was great for learning bluesy scales as a kid but less great to listen to outside of that.

Enjoyed this much more than I was expecting.

Pas fan du style de chant et un peu trop blues pour moi, dans l'ensemble les morceaux sont trop longs du coup je m'ennuie un peu. Mais chanson 4 est plutôt bien :D

How on earth do you release this as your debut album in 1969?? It's completely insane to think about. Side one is out of this world - 'Good Times Bad Times', 'Babe I'm Gonna Leave You', and 'Dazed and Confused' are sublime. Side two doesn't quite keep the ball rolling with 'Communication Breakdown' being a highlight. I love this album, but somehow it doesn't quite feel like a 5/5.

Absolutely insane that this is a debut album. And released in 1969? I mean... Side one is non-stop perfection with an absolute highlight in "Dazed and Confused" (inspired by Jake Holmes). Side two is not quite as strong but still contains incredible tracks such as "Communication Breakdown" and "How Many More Times". Even when the record gets almost too close to just being blues Plant's voice comes roaring in and saves the day. This is not on the verge of being handed a 5/5 but it's definitely not a 3/5 either.

I love "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" more than anything. But then "You Shook Me" comes and bores me to absolute death. "Black Mountain Side" was cool and special. Over all quite a boring, but in the same way interesting album. 4

It's aight. The others are better. Shame that I own it on Vinyl, this delayed me discovering Zeppelin cuz it was lame to me because I knew the astronomical praise Zeppelin gets and it set my expectations too high. 4/5

I keep being surprised at how the early heavier rock songs/albums are so clearly influenced, by blues music, and Led Zeppelin is no exception. However, their difference is they don't overly rely on the Blues sound (personally, I think early Elvis and The Rolling Stones). Also didn't realise that they were English - totally though they were an American band. Best: Good Times Bad Times Worst: You Shook Me 3.5 Stars

Really top tier album. Started off thinking this was 100% worthy of the praise it received: Immersive, poetic, virtuosic and most importantly; entertaining. However as the album progresses it loses some of this magic and becomes a bit self-indulgent.

A classic record that was an excellent debut for Zep. Underneath, the songs that got commercial attention and radio play, most of the record is a collection of blues songs performed by a dynamic white British hard rock-blues band. Sure, there are some slow moments and some filler, but for the most part this rocks hard and upholds the reputation of Zeppelin! One of their best!

Not how I expected but good

Quintessential

Really enjoyed it. Haven’t listened to a lot of Led Zeppelin.

Damn. This must've been insane to listen to back in 1969 but even now it's clear where the sound of the '70s got it's start. Stand-out tracks for me: Good Times Bad Times, Your Time Is Gonna Come, Communication Breakdown, and How Many More Times. Great listen!

Some poddling bluesy tracks mixed with some really good rock tracks.

Led Zep is the best cover band that has ever existed. Is this a good album? I would say yes, but the fact that a lot of it is liberally taken from other artists with no credit leaves a bad taste in my ears.

Banger, but not their best

Not my favorite Zeppelin album, but some good tracks on this one

Amazing album, brilliant opening tracks, just not quite a 5 starts

Saw this and thought, I'm not in the mood for this album. How wrong was I. Loved the drumming. Hearing the emergence of the trademark Zep sound mingled with some blues was great.

I have a feeling that if I listened to this for the first time today I wouldn't be a big fan, but as it is my teenage self refuses to let me give this anything less than a 4.

A classic. More bluesy than I remembered but not a bad thing. I love Robert Plant’s voice. Organ on your time is gonna come…why so much organ in the late 60s/early 70s? It’s ok though. This album definitely has its moments.

A classic. First exploration of the genre by the band - I liked the experimental hook of some of the songs. Highlight: Dazed and Confused

git, najlepsze: "dazed and confused" oraz "Good times bad times"

8/10. Good stuff

I've had the discussion with friends on what is the best / most dramatic debut song by an artist in history. "Good Times, Bad Times" was on everyone's short list. But also...over the years I had kind of forgotten about this album - I'm very hit and miss on Zeppelin; so much overplay on radio from the 90s on turned me off to even their best for years, and I also don't care for some of their longer/more self-indulgent cuts (e.g. Kashmir no thanks; same with Dazed & Confused here). Zeppelin II->Houses has always been my sweet spot if and when I go back to them, but it started here and this debut is pretty damn great all things considered. ...even if you consider that half the tracks are literally ripped off from older blues artists. But still... Quite a few highlights aside from the kick-ass opening track: "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" just sounds really good with the contrast between acoustics and electric bombast, super heavy reverb... that grandiose and gorgeously huge organ intro to "Your Time Is Gonna Come" and the pure simple power of "Communication Breakdown" - both classics. Negatives: This will seem like too many negatives but the band was just finding themselves on this album - once they started writing more of their own material their diversity really shined. On the debut even when *sounding* great, it still drags in parts. "You Shook Me" is a plodding and dull ill-advised cover; "I Can't Quit You Baby" is similar, too often sloppy/ugly (i'm no fan of Jimmy Page solos - love his chord voicings/progressions but the blues solos are a hard pass from me); "Dazed And Confused" (despite being one of their more famous cuts) just drags too often (and ffs if you agree with that avoid their execrable live version which goes on for 3 weeks...). Hell, it is a very bluesy album which does occasionally sound repetitive by the end. Still though that's really nitpicking - this is a worthy and amazing debut overall and one which they'd refine to perfection just months (?!?!?) later on their near-perfect second album. 7/10 4 stars.

So far II and Physicaly Graffiti have gotten a 4 from me and I still have II and III to catch up on. Fave: Dazed and Confused

Splendid!

One of Led Zep’s great albums, with some outstanding classic tunes.

Very raw sounding, almost has a live quality to it. Production quality is low, but not in a bad way. You Shook Me has a lot of blues influences to it, clearly. More organ that I was expecting.

Did people straight up die when this came out?! The drums are so loud, the bass is on some other shit, and the guitar sounds like how lightning looks!

Good shit.

Quality

Great stuff

I know a bunch of Led Zeppelin popular songs, but hadn't listened to the albums. Enjoyed this one, really dig the classic rock vibe.

Great debut. Some songs drag on a little but generally really cool blues rock sound. 8-9/10 1. Babe I'm Gonna Leave You 2. Communication Breakdown 3. Dazed and Confused

A classic, but I'm going to round it down to 4 stars. Excellent considering it's their first album and there are some familiar hits. However, the songs that weren't released as singles don't particularly stand out to me and it's more bluesy that their later albums with a lot of "oooh baby baby baby".

yes nice

Zep is still refining its sound and covering songs here. However, an album that includes a song like “Baby I’m Gonna Leave You” could not be considered as bad. “Good Times, Bad Times” is one of the most rocking songs in history.

Greatness!

A good album not perfect some good songs but enough great songs for it to be 5 stars for me

Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath are 2 big exceptions to my "fuck off late 60s" vibe on this project. This album doesn't fly as high as their later stuff, they hadn't really let the cat fully out of the bag yet, but they don't have a bad album anyway. Everything is at least "pretty damn good". 4/5.

Loved this album….classic Led Z

I bought Led Zeppelin IV first (of course) because I was already sort of familiar with several songs, especially the big one. Then I bought Led Zeppelin II and I remember being surprised at how much I liked the whole thing. It seemed unlikely at the time that I would like two albums, front to back, of the same band. Then I remember buying this one and thinking 'No one ever talks about this one, I don't know any of the songs. This is probably going to be terrible.' And then 'Good Times, Bad Times' started up and I loved it again. I figured the blues-hippie-Tolkien -ock thing would burn off at some point, right? But it seems like these guys just had endless riffs and melodies to mine. I still think this is a great album.

These guys certainly knew how to filch from the best, I'll give them that!

Well, it ain't my favorite Zeppelin album but it was honestly a little refreshing to listen to the band and NOT hear a song off of Zep IV, so there's something to be said for that. And while not every song here shakes the foundations... Jesus Christ, boys: I cannot for the life of me imagine what hearing "Dazed and Confused" in 1969 must have been like. For real, can you imagine hearing that on the radio when a mere decade earlier something like that song was just completely unthinkable? Bobby Darin was in the top 5 in 1959. *Bobby Darin*... I can't do nothin' but 4 stars, and that's only because I know they best it later.

Pretty good

Pretty awesome record. Pretty much every song on here is beautiful in some way, and Plant’s vocals have a lot of passion which makes it all even batter. 7/10

this is what i imagined this whole project would be: not much songwriting, lots of guitar. unfortunately, it's also pretty good.

An undisputed classic. Nostalgia for me, but it still holds up after all these years.

Great album, but just doesn’t reach the highs of led zeppelin II and IV.

Ukratko. Album me dosta iznenadio jer inače nisam neki fan Led Zeppelina, međutim ovaj album je stvarno dobar. Prvi puta kad sam ga preslušao mi je sjeo na glavu, drugi puta na volej!

Some bands on this list get the added benefit of nostalgia but some get a handicap. I loved Led Zeppelin as a kid, long after their heyday, I was listening to them in the late 90s. I idolized them and thought they were geniuses for the music they created. Years later you hear the stories, you hear the similarities in their music to older blues songs and things, then all of a sudden you hear the music a little differently. Each member was an all-star at their instrument and they were at the right place at the right time, but they were walking the line between flattery and stealing very closely. That line is ambiguous at best, one guitar player can play a lick and it sounds like they're paying homage to the players that came before them, then another can play the same riff and it seems fraudulent, I can't really explain it but I guess it has to do with their intention and I don't know how you can know what that is for sure. On another note, It's not advised to judge the past by today's standards, but some of the debauchery involving underage girls they were known for is gross to me now too. I know it was the 70s or whatever but still hard to look away from that. If you want to live in blissful ignorance, don't meet your idols and don't read their Wikipedias.

Damn! Zeppelin was always fire uh?!

I do really like some Led Zeppelin. This one isn't my favourite album of theirs but it still has a lot of classic tracks on it, strong 4

So this is where it started then? Fabulous, unique. However, I still have a preference for the bluesy slide of tracks like 'I can't quit you baby' - but judging by the Spotify Plays - i'm in a minority!

Re-listening for the generator: good stuff here. May have overrated Zep’s beginning in the past or it may be my headphones, but it’s still a 4/5 for the purposes of the 1001 ratings. Good times, good times. 8/10

All Zep had to do was fucking give credit where credit was fucking due! Some folk singer named Anne Bredon whom no one has ever heard of getting partial songwriting credit for the second track wouldn't have detracted from Page's arrangement, his playing, or Plant's wailing. Must've been an ego thing, which doesn't make sense, considering how excellent the band is. Adaptation is its own form of artistry, ya cunts!

The start of something very special.

I don't know if I've ever heard an album that's all bangers and no hits before this one. I loved every track but none of them were legit hits. The album was soaked in that sick vibe that you know and love from Zepp but not a single track had any of the monster hooks that you associate with the band. Still a super enjoyable listen, though.

Loved it! Another banger from Led Zep. So many fun and epic tunes. Features my favourite LZ some "Babe I Gonna Leave you"

I've never really gotten into Led Zeppelin although I do appreciate their fusion of blues, hard rock and psychedelia. They made a sound that was not so much of their own but far better than their contemporaries. There are some epic songs on here which far out weighs the selections on here that are purely masturbatory

heavy, blusey, psychedelic, with a pinch of kitsch. a darker, more interesting Cream.

Let’s go track by track: 5-4-3-4-5-4-4-3-5 4.111 Bonham for MVP on ‘Good Times Bad Times’

More bluesy than I thought, pretty good.

Pretty good

Loved this

Excellent album, a few songs that I love, a couple not as much.

241021 11:50 3.5

They are a band that i ddint think i would enjoy, but this was a well balanced album that i imagine was a bit ahead of its time.

This shit rocks!

zep was kinda overplayed by the time i came to hear them on my own. by the time i was working in kitchens, i was getting tired of them...and by the time i was done working in kitchens, i was pretty much done with them. (and aerosmith, for that matter, but that's another review.) that said...man, as a debut - as your first time hearing of these new kids from engerland, the opening seconds of the opening track of their first album (which was also their first single) really set the stage. there's that hard attack of page's guitar, jones' intertwining bassline, plant's vocals, whose style really never wavered, and of course bonham's stumbling over the kick drum's pedals that make you think you must've heard wrong...only you haven't, and that's really how he can play those things, and who IS this guy? i'm sure i've mentioned elsewhere i don't love them - overplayed, as i say, and the fan club by the late 80s was made up of...well, let's just say we were mutually exclusive. but this album, while i still don't love it, really says a lot about where they were going later on. plus, you know, bonham. jeezus, that guy.

Don't love the voice. Drums and bass are amazing though.

Blues rock

Some absolute classics, but also some songs that I didn't overly care for. Still a great album, though.

Not much for me to say about this album that hasn't already been said honestly. It's Zepplin man. Good times bad times is a fantastic opener into an album that really does cover situations that show that in action. From I can't quit you baby to babe I'm on gonna leave you. It's a good album and one I think is absolutely working taking the time out of your day to listen to.

glassic

Not my favourite Zep, but possibly second - a classic debut

Very conflicted on this. Thought I would enjoy it more than I did, gets a 4 mostly for being more musically/technically impressive than a lot of albums.

4.6/5 great music

Tycker redan om Led Zeppelin och det är ett väldigt bra album. Blir alltid överraskad över hur tidigt det släpptes.

Outstanding vocals and guitar. Love the bluesy jams. A couple less memorable cuts on the latter half.

Lots of classic songs on this album. It is a very solid first album from Led Zeppelin. I am not sure I had heard this full album from start to finish previously, but it is a great album.

Zep's first album is kind of an oddity in their discography - it's a blues album with rock elements, rather than the other way around. "Good Times Bad Times" and "Communication Breakdown" are classics, but the pacing is kinda off - the first side drags a bit with lengthy downtempo songs, especially when "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" really feels its length. It's refreshing when "Dazed and Confused" finally picks up the pace, and the second side in general is more consistent. Still a crazy good debut, but they have a half-dozen better LPs.

Solid album. Transported right to the era.

An absolute classic

An exciting blend of Rock, Blues, and Folk Music. Each song stands alone as a solitary work of art on it's own but each contributes to the overall emotion and flow of the album. Still not my go to for music but won't deny it's place and influential nature and I very much appreciate and respect Led Zeppelin.

Enjoyed listening. Not sure if it's right for work though.

The original Led Zepplin album. Can't say I ever consciously listened to it, so this might be interesting. First song immediately has that very 60s "texture" you often hear in the Beatles as well. I can't quite put my finger on what it is. Lots of widdly widdly.

heard before listened again

v good

The classic sound of Led Zeppelin starts to rear its head during the short run time of their debut. Guitar work that was later perfected just the same year.

classic album, other than a few songs being unoriginal or stolen from other artists

A stellar debut for a band that helped redefine the genre. With several iconic singles and showing the glimpses at future mastery makes this album stand out.

Loved this, beautiful, melodic and blues-drenched. Still prefer Physical Graffiti, but this is a great album.

Heavy.

4.5 woo baby! Prety good album

4/5, fun album, but not quite as awesome as I remebered. Maybe its their influence on the genre, but it felt like so many other blues/rock bands that Ive heard before. Still, every song is solid and theres a lot of fun parts (dueling vocals and guitars etc). Obviously classics like Dazed and Confused

4/5 very good album, <3

A Classic and amazing debut album from these legends. Blues rock

Bloody good actually. Enjoyed more than I thought. Def influenced White Stripes

Reminds me of buying up all the LZ albums from the CD store by the theater near Pembroke at the beginning of high school. I'm also now realizing my dad tried to connect with me on music, but dang, we just have different tastes. Not much else to say about this though; I suspect this will be one of the more previously listened to albums on this generator.

Not an album or a band I would listen to on the regs but clearly hugely influential on a lot of the music I do listen to. They are the Beatles of harder rock music genres. Jimmy Page's production techniques also highly innovative. 8.5/10

Rock n roll baby, on top form here, not a bad song on it, what a band.

A great album by a great band. Would've been great to see them live, despite Sabba's tale!

Bands like this are a main reason for doing this. One of the most influential bands ever but I’ve barely listened to them. First time I listened to it I wasn’t sure, but over the weekend I got stuck more into it.

This is the first band I ever fell in live with. I remember being on family vacation, listening to it on a disc-man, laying in the grass, eyes closed, mind blown. I didn’t know about sex or Robert Johnson yet, but as time went by my appreciation for this album matured. It has a place in my still adolescent heart.

Not their best, but can’t argue with this for a debut album.

It’s Led Zeppelin

classic rock

Classic classic rock

Rock suave.

Thoroughly enjoyed the album, perfect genre choice, etc.

Listened to while masquerading as Jordan

Zeppelin is always good.

Really solid, quite enjoyed this classic.

Muy rock, del rock clásico que casi no escucho, pero me llega a maravillar a ratos. Voy a decir luego de acabar con este ejercicio que Led Zeppelin sí me gusta, aunque no lo ponga con frecuencia. Mis favoritas acá: "You Shook Me" y "Dazed and Confused". 8.5/10
