Reviews (page 8 of 14)
I thought that this was my favorite Led Zeppelin album but now I'm not sure. There isn't really one that stands out to me as being better than the rest. I think I have to relisten to Zeppelin 4 and Physical Graffiti again. Anyways this is an obvious classic with obviously classic songs. 8/10. Favorite track: Babe I'm Gonna Leave You
Mästerverk.
Goated
8/10
4.5. Not as good as LZ IV
Crazy how this album isn’t even in LZ’s top 3
The voice, the guitar, the bass, the drums. Zeppelin fuckin rules. Not a bad song on this album imo. I slept on the song Your Time is Gonna Come, now it’s one of my faves. I can only imagine how many brains melted the first time this shit hit the airwaves
Prettyyyyy pretty good. Lots of standards, but some skips if I’m not in the right mood.
Had a small Led Zeppelin phase and now coming back to these songs... they are even better than i remember
A fantastic debut to a fantastic band. A level of sound and energy, alongside a beautiful musical arrangement that captivates you one minute into the album. Great work. ⭐⭐⭐⭐1/2
love this one!
The big tracks are great, I hoped the 1st album might not have as much of the the indulgent slow stuff but it is still there
My ratings thus far have shown Led Zeppelin IV is the best. Pretty awesome for a debut, tho. 4/5
hell yeah LD1, that cover is punk as fuck. Communication Breakdown has always been my fave song by them. from start to finish, the beats of this record are timeless. its been forever etched into the HUMAN zeitgeist, way beyond just music. since i first heard it, I've had a fascination for Babe I'm Gonna to Leave You. its such a clean buildup - no pretention, no gimmicks, no dead space - just a solid song that no one had seen before that. I don't love every song, and i don't really like this band, but this is the best thing they have ever done imo. Good Times is an okay opener. i don't love all these songs, but in order, everything is here. Black Mountain Side shows that this isn't fad music but has some experience to justify all these choices. i like the meandering ending. its 4/5 but pushing it so close to 5. i like the gospel choir feel of Your Time Is Gonna Come.
Probably underrated in Zep's discography. I think this is top 3.
Gutes Album, sehr stimmig alles und auch noch echt kurzweilig. Ging schneller zu Ende, als ich es erwartet habe. - "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You", "Dazed and Confused" sind mir sehr aufgefallen / hängen geblieben 4/5 4 – Hat mir gut gefallen 👍 Ich hatte Spaß beim Hören, einige Songs bleiben hängen. Könnte ich mir gut nochmal anhören.

Great album. Heavy, bluesy. Sounds a couple of years later than 1969. Would have been 5 stars but some of the songs are overlong.
Such a great raw and great rock sound. For a debut, this gotta be one of the best, no wonder they got so big.
Really good all-around rock album. Not LZ's top one, in my opinion, but still a great listen with some awesome songs. It's worth some added consideration since it's their first ever album as a group. I've already talked about LZ and my affinity for guitar-heavy, blues-based rock quite a bit in prior reviews, so not a lot new for me to say here. That makes up the majority of the album, so I was happy. I'll note the added instrumental track, Black Mountain Side, was an interesting change up from the rest of the album. Being more critical, I have to again note the number of covers/re-arrangements take away from my ranking. As happens often with LZ, there is some dispute about how much of their work is truly original compositions. Even so, they still do it incredibly well. For me, it's pretty simple- just listen to it and rock out. It's a really good record for that. Just a few minor qualms keep it out of 5-range for me, especially comparing it to some of their other albums. Overall: 4.25/5
This album has been reviewed to death and there's nothing I can add that hasn't already been said by someone more eloquent than me. However, as a biased Zeppelin fan, there are a few songs on this album I don't love, which stops it from being a full 5/5.
Great album, bangers start to finish. I really thought about giving it five stars, but landed on four because I gave five stars to Led Zeppelin IV, and although this album is great, I do think that IV is better! 4 stars
It sounds like the essence of rock and roll.
Raw, bluesy and energetic. Loved this although it wasn't as versatile as Physical Graffiti.
These guys love the blues. It can feel a little more bare bones at times compared to where they would get to. An interesting debut album. Dazed and Confused is the best track here. This isn't as strong for me when they are just doing the more basic blues songs. There are moments with Led Zeppelin where it's like Greensleves English traditional folk music meets the blues. Which I also find interesting. I'm giving this a 4 just comparing it to future albums, but still great.
Just a really good rock album. It's not Led Zep 2 though.
Great classic album. Lots of hits that I have heard a million times. It's great but I hear these songs often enough in my daily life that I would never think to put this album on. It's one of the best albums that I will never listen to again.
Only made it about halfway through but definitely enjoyed it and will finish at some point
From the opening stabs of “Good Times Bad Times”, you know this album is going to rock. Led Zeppelin strolled seductively across the stage so that heavy metal bands could run. There would not be an Iron Maiden feature Bruce Dickinson and his eternal and youthful energy without Led Zeppelin’s greasy, heavy blues rock. Other standouts include “Babe I’m Gonna Leave You”, the simultaneously sexy and trippy “Dazed and Confused”, and “Communication Breakdown”.
Powerful stuff, it almost feels/sounds like that with this album Zepp brought an end to the 60s and ushered in the 70s a year early.
Great musicianship, solid tunes, as usual though, I’m never over excited by Zepp and fail to get the hype. They are good, they albums never strike me as great.
Led Zeppelin, being one of my favorite bands, any ratings are going to be biased. This is a solid introductory album and has some incredible songs, but it’s not their crown jewel. Hovering between 4 & 5 here; will change later if I need.
I like when they sound like Greta Van Fleet
I understand why they are as big as they are
Well damn, for a debut album this one goes hard. I honestly went back and forth on the review for this because there were aspects of the album that I didn’t like and got tired of but then the very next part of a song was so good. High 4. I guess I like Led Zeppelin now.
No huge hits on this one but a handful of decent songs. Not my favorite Zeppelin but still better than a lot of the other stuff on here. 7/10
Deep Bluesy
Oooo I’m looking forward to this one. Pretty low key opener for a band like LZ…until the guitar solo comes! And ‘Babe I’m Gonna Leave You’ just so much heart and soul. We have arrived. And ‘You Shook Me’ for the blues substance. Each song just a complete journey. Drops of a bit for ‘Your Time Is Gonna Come’ and ‘Black Mountain Side’ but nice to mix it up. Some bangers on here and a great album as a whole. Welcome LZ!
Ok
For a 1969 debut, it's quite fully formed. It has strong songs with quite a bit of layering to them, no filler, and very strong instrumentals. It's a confident record. That being said, I find blues extremely boring as a rule. The Willie Dixon songs (You Shook Me and I Can't Quit You Baby) grind the record to a halt. From an objective standpoint, they're strong showings; from my subjective one, they threaten to bring this record down to 3 stars. I'm feeling generous though. Your Time is Gonna Come is the other song I'm not quite sold on. The remaining tracks would be great songs at any point of any band's career. There's quite a progressive feeling to some of these, like in Dazed and Confused. This is best seen in the magnificent How Many More Times, easily the album's best song. I appreciate that Page wasn't afraid to write longer songs that showed off the band's playing, where every other band tried to make a bunch of singles. I never realised before what a standout drummer Bonham is. I think the production also really lets his (and the others') playing sing. Great record. I enjoyed this more today than I did the first time listening to it. I may even be warming to Plant's voice. 4 stars.
This was really interesting! Love that it was their debut as a group. The genre blending of the album really worked and I loved how all the rhythms just sort of rolled and worked together. I’m less into the yell-singing but I understand that’s kind of a vibe of its own. Overall a very solid album!
Not the strongest Zeppelin album, but still full of solid hits
Amazing album...I just wish they'd given credit to the original writers such as Willie Dixon
I’ve lost count of how many times I’m listening to a song and think, “damn this song is rocks, who is this? Oh I hear it, it’s Zeppelin, of course.” I get into the songs that dive towards blues and find myself tapping and bobbing often, maybe some air guitar. I can feel why my dad loved zeppelin so much, picture him cruising around in his van
Good
Classic.
Great music from a great era.
Love love love this album!! I think my fave led zep to be honest (at risk of being controversial)
7 / 10 - Good time bad times is one of the greatest drum trades ever written, and half of this album slaps, the rest is just a spead up blues album. Not the greatest thing they’ve done but still a good album regardless
In my memories this was full of meandering middle 8 that's drift off into nothing like a doors album might, but on this listening I just enjoyed it all. The first 4 tracks are all killer, there is a bit of a drop off before communication breakdown, but all in all it's enjoyable, not there best, but good. Although as always with zeppelin I wonder how many of these songs they ripped off other people. Probably most of them.
One of the important rock albums ever and it bangs
Great psychedelic blues rock. Some classics on this album, really fun time.
Apart from a perverse evening with In Through the Out Door, I've never properly listened to a Led Zeppelin album. The debut is a great place to join them in starting their journey. And, hopefully, the generator will continue sharing the band in order. Right from the off, Led Zeppelin I hits with the certainty of people who’ve already been in a hundred bands, played a thousand pubs, and found the one combination that finally works. It is a strong, impressive opener, especially Bonham's assured introduction to Good Times, Bad Times. They sound like they’ve been doing this forever, which, given their session backgrounds, is more or less true. That job is to sound like the people in the room have always been a unit. Thus the playing is tight to the point of claustrophobia at times. Brilliant claustrophobia. But then, brilliance without brakes has its limits. The polish, the power, the sheer talent do start to overtake everything else. There's no question they can do extraordinary things with just four players, perhaps the apex of what a four-piece can do with few overdubs. Still, in the way that ELP and The Nice might end up burlesqueing a classical piece, this music feels like prog rock by people raised on blues records. There's real force and intelligence here, but it often serves performance more than purpose. There is a fair carp about how Zeppelin stole blues riffs and full songs without giving credit or passing them off as arr. LZ. I excused or glossed over similar behaviour in the previous New Order review, so won't litigate it again. However, the burlesque does become a little ugly in Robert Plant's lyrics: he is wronged again. And again. And again. Women are always cheating on him and treating him bad. She "made me mistreat my only child," just a fancy version of "She turned the weeuns agin me." If this were coming from some battered Mississippi bluesman in 1931, you'd nod and feel the ache. The guy's probably no saint, but times are hard. However it’s Robert Plant: ethereal, shirtless, already mythologising himself by album one. At a certain point, if all your relationships are failing, you might consider the common denominator – it's either you or the jeans. But he’s not trying to confess anything. These aren't diary entries. They're postures, costumes, performance. He sings these things not because he's revealing himself, but because he and his band are playing music they love, and playing it better than almost anyone else ever has. And that’s its own kind of truth, even if it’s not confessional. I don't mean to slight anybody by saying Plant's medieval use of the word rambling makes his persona minstrelsy in two senses. He’s the troubadour as fantasy figure, wandering and wounded, peacockery and pageantry. So, yes, it's brilliant. But it’s also a bit ridiculous. And occasionally that ridiculousness curdles. Still, the power is there. Something enormous is starting to move. It is all artfully done, but, until - hopefully on some later record - it is done in the service of some artistic ideal, I can only enjoy it so far. Ramble on Led Zeppelin II. 3.5 How neat that our first of the six(?) Led Zeppelin albums on this project is the debut. Dazed and Confused was one of the first Led Zeppelin records I really loved but my first introduction to it was Remasters rather than this album. In fact this may have been one of the last Led Zeppelin albums, along with the late, terrible ones, that I listened to. It is certainly one of the best. It is questionable whether this album actually has (any) ‘good songs’ on it - lyrically it’s all of a (distasteful) piece; poor Robert Plant being misused by ‘little girls’ and ‘sweet babies’. Some of it is blues procedural. Dazed and Confused was plagiarised. Your Time is Gonna Come is just rotten. But then there’s the band… These four musicians at their best, as they are here, could spin poop into gold. The frequency of delightful details in these tracks might justly be compared with the Beatles approach to hit-making; assume the audience will be falling asleep after 30 seconds - give them a musical nudge. The differences are that Led Zepp do it sometimes across 6 or 7 minutes and do it mostly off the cuff. The brilliant thumb-hits on the guitar before the second verse of Your Time…; the flurry of double-kicks 3 minutes into I Can’t Quit You Baby; the comically expressive harmonica solo (or any of the other solos) in You Shook Me; the mesmerising bowed guitar on How Many More Times or Bonham’s introduction of a new, delicious drum pattern 6 minutes into the same track; everything John Paul Jones does. They are just wonderful and although the sublime economy of Good Times, Bad Times and Communication Breakdown makes a strong argument against the excess of most of the other tracks here I wouldn’t like to edit much of it. 4/5
Look, I have my issues with Led Zeppelin. They are personal, aesthetic, political, and more. But for this one, driving for hours in the BC mountains, I just let this sort of happen (and did not focus on the lyrics--never focus on Led Zeppelin lyrics), and holy motherfucking fuck. This is their *first* record? Some of these songs are really pretty awesome.
The lyrics get more and more embarrassing every year, and the stink of middle school hangs over a lot of this, but there is so much of this that is amazing instrumentally and recording-wise. Drum sounds are legitimately incredible. A big part of my world. Also the playing. Insane and profound grooves. All very organic and alive.
I don’t own the album but know most of these songs—it really is packed with classics. Robert Plant’s voice is insanely good. One star off for the mean anti-woman stuff.
I cannot believe this is Led Zeppelin's debut. I'm hard pressed to find another, more iconic artist that knew their sound in the beginning and came out of the gate swinging. Several of these songs are often on the radio, and I wouldn't have guessed they were on their debut. But it's not like Led Zeppelin peaked on their first album like a lot of other artists. They just kept getting better and better with each subsequent album! At times I can't tell this was their debut album. Other times I can and I'm fascinated. They've got that hard rock down pat, but they also played with the blues and progressive, too. All artists have to find their way, and Led Zeppelin is no different. Still, what they touch is always gold because they still make blues and progressive music stellar.
Looking at this album incredibly objectively, it's evident that Led Zeppelin got better as they went on -- this is not their best work. That said, it is STILL an outstanding, trailblazing album and debut. "Good Times Bad Times" is an epic album opener, and a peak Led Zeppelin song in general. Looking at it all retrospectively, this song set the stage to let people know exactly who Led Zeppelin was and exactly the quality of music they would come to know from the band. "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" and "Dazed and Confused" are both nearly 7 minute long epics that, in my opinion, are the other crown jewels of this album. Led Zeppelin also immediately lets people know with these songs that they are unafraid to let their songs be uninhibited jam sessions, but without letting the song grow stale. On the other end of the spectrum, you have fast and short "Communication Breakdown", another favorite of mine on this album; it is almost unhinged, and it's perfect. The album does slump a bit in parts between these mentioned songs, but their slumps are still good. There's something poetic about this album specifically popping up for me now; I'm nearing the end of my 1001 journey, and this is my final Led Zeppelin album on the project, so it all kind of feels a bit full circle. Even though I point out this album as being Led Zeppelin not at the top of their game and talk about it slightly critically, that's only because they just set the bar so high in their career. But compared to other artists, they're an upper echelon band, period. And among debut albums, "Led Zeppelin I" is definitely legendary, and is undoubtedly home to some legendary songs; it is a greater achievement than many bands would ever know in their careers. Even Led Zeppelin's "upper-mid" work is far and away some of the best music to ever be created.
Not my favorite LZ, but a classic and the one that started it all.
It’s pretty good it’s kinda like the first sabbath album but bluesier and less fun lol 7/10
You Shook Me has been my favourite blues-adjacent number for years now, an easy 4*
Did not blow me away, which I kind of expected it would. The first 2 tracks are incredible, what an opening. But I got bored by the slow bluesy "You shook me". And it goes on like that: 1 or 2 great songs, then a boring one. Even so, I will listen to it again. 4/5
Viel bluesiger als die späteren Led Zeppelin Alben. Großartiges Debut!
dazed and confused solo still goes hard they nailed their sound immediately and that great acoustic work, black mountain side is fun hard not to fuck with
bangers
If only there was a little more sexy guitar and a little less Robert Plant moaning
A part in Dazed and Confused reminded me of the intro to Paranoid A very solid album
I've been zeppd
My 3rd fav Zep albums - blues tinge makes it great.
A little overly self-indulgent at times with the oohhhs and aahhhhs but excellent debut from Led Zeppelin. Amazing how Jimmy Page’s guitar complements Robert Plant’s vocals and they almost mimic one another.
I already have a few songs from this album on playlists I listen to often so its not something new to me. Its a good album from a great band.
Very solid debut. No real bad song on here, Although i will say that they get a lot better later on.
Really awesome mesh of blues and rock. The riff in dazed and confused is iconic. Jimmy page loves a chromatic walkdown. Lots of fun sequences that keep some of the longer performances entertaining
Rawk.
Got the led out
Dødsfet. En haug med kule låter, ikonisk tromming, og god variasjon. Litt for mye vokalonani til tider bare. Beste låt: Dazed and Confused
Led Zeppelin came roaring out the gates. On paper, it doesn’t sound like the band should work. A veteran guitarist looking to continue the legacy of his previous band, a well-known session bassist looking to break out, a 20 something runaway, and a self taught drummer who was recommended by the 20 something runaway. But by god did it work. It’s hard to rate this album knowing just the heights the band would reach later in their career, but it’s still an incredible rock album.
Probably the weakest of the Led Zeppelin albums I’ve gotten so far on this challenge. It’s still a really solid album, but definitely not as good as the other ones I’ve had selected to this point. 3.5 / 5
Iconic
Possibly the first heavy rock blues record or certainly the one that spawned a whole genre. Having said that it is all a bit samey with the odd stand out track. Again great musicianship and hoping too see more of them in the future list.
Not as good as some of the others but still really solid. love the last song too
Ok I’m on board with this Led Zeppelin album. It still isn’t my favorite type of rock but can’t deny the greatness
Solid album. But I haven’t forgiven them for being time travelling thieves and ripping off Alfred Yankovic’s masterpiece Trapped in The Drive-Thru. 4/5 stars
realmente muy guapo, no habia escuchado led zeppelin pero m sorprendio
I listen to a lot of rock so this I graded this one toughly, a lot of the music sounds really samey and I feel like they forced guitar solos in multiple sections the first four tracks were extremely notable of this. The album undeniably made a huge impact on the rock genre so I have to give it points for that. The album was very boring to listen to from tracks 2-4 and I often felt like they lasted too long, I feel like this album is good to put on while working, and the rest of their songs are good. 8/10
Classic hard rock
Good riffs
Ekte kul plate. Holder seg veldig godt og fullstappet av bangers. Må definitivt høre med på Zeppelin ja.
Excellent album, a classic
Solid debut album with some amazing tracks. Page and Bonham.are great on the guitar and drums. Copied songs and Plant's cacophony brings it down for me. Rounding up to 4
Really good but not their best album.
Solid Zep. 3.5/5
not as good as zeppelin 4, but still great
What a fabulous album. people must’ve gone crazy for this. I’m not a huge Led Zeppelin fan, but they really do have a fantastic sound. I am nerdy enough that my first real introduction to Robert Plant’s voice was sea of love in 1986 or so. Really great to hear him in a Real rock ‘n’ roll setting. And yes yes, I know the cultural appropriation implications of Led Zeppelin singing the blues, but damn they did a good job.
Pretty solid. The first track actually didn’t hook me, but I really liked the second one, and it kept up from then on. From what I’ve heard of this list, I think Led Zeppelin’s albums are more consistently enjoyable than some of their contemporaries. Favorite: Babe I’m Gonna Leave You
Classic
A classic. Great debut album.
Led Zeppelin tends to be hit or miss for me. This one was more hits.
Helluva debut and a classic for sure...just feel like it doesn't have the replay-ability of their following albums. Still 4.5 stars.
Great album. Fantastic debut. But I think they’ve got a couple better albums. Similar to the recent stones album, I think they’ve got better, so it’s not perfect for me.
This was a good album today, enjoyed listening to it a few times while I worked. Never had a problem with Led Zeppelin songs, and this album stand strong still. I dig it.
4 stars A classic, but flawed album. You can see elements of why they became one of the most influential bands of all time, but they were still working through some filler. Huge and inventive, this is an amazing debut. Perhaps if they did not rise to the level that they did this would be seen as more of a perfect album, but compared to their later releases the filler stands out much more.
good but blends in with lots of rock from this time🫣
It was pretty interesting, and really cool. The songs were quite interesting
I really like Zep. Plants voice may grate some people but its rock n roll. jimmy Page is arguebly the best guitarist in the world with his licks which this album is full of. he manages to play lead and rytham effortlessly and the drums are so tight by Bonam arguebley the best drummer in the world at that moment in time.
Yeh, fine
Dad loved this album. What a debut. More bluesy than I expected. Your Time is Gonna Come is my highlight so far. 9 songs, everywhere from 2:27 - 8:28 in length.
++*: Good Times Bad Times, How Many More Times ++: You Shook Me, Dazed and Confused, Black Mountain Side, Communication Breakdown, I Can't Quit You Baby +: Babe I'm Gonna Leave You, Your Time Has Gonna Come 9,5/10
Trying to imagine how this sounded back in 1969 is wild. The use of acoustic guitars is great on Babe I’m Going to Leave You. On heavier tracks like Dazed and Confused Zepplin bridge the gap between late 60s greats like Hendrix/Doors/The Who … and the Rock n Roll of the 70s. An absolute explosion of sound. 4/5
Doesn’t quite reach the heights of IV for me but it’s damn good rock
This is definitely a very unique album for its time. I don’t think there was anyone else back then mixing blues with hard rock the way Led Zeppelin did. The rawness of the music, driven by that blues influence, has always been one of my favorite elements of their sound.
sure
It’s tough to imagine rock music today with them. First steps of a band who changed a genre
Sure, about half of these songs are covers, but they're making those songs their own, so I'm not too mad about it. "Good Times Bad Times" and "Communication Breakdown" remain great and show their talent right out of the gate. We can argue over who gets credit for "Dazed and Confused", but the fact is nobody cared until Zeppelin took it and made it Amazing. The only thing holding me back from rating it higher is that they went on to make better albums, like II and IV. It's a strong debut though, and the influence and impact on music is undeniable.
Nice to Rock out
classic and smooth
Dazed and Confused is fire, cool album, put me to sleep woke up still listening
4/5
Very good
Det hørtes akkurat ut som æ forventa, så det va helt ok å høre på, men æ har allerede glemt alt.
Really great. enjoyed it more than LZII
Another BANGER! Zeppelin you've done it again!! (except this was the first one)
Nice
I really like the rock and blues mix. The vocals are really good and I like the guitar. Rating - 8.5
great album, love all the bluesy stuff. wasn’t aware of their plagiarism until today but i genuinely give zero fucks
Outside Plant’s vocals there’s not much here that is distinctively Zeppelin. It’s still pretty good, but this seems closer to the Stones or Hendrix than the Led Zeppelin of “Kashmir,” “Immigrant Son, or “When the Levee Breaks.“
I adore their music and this is such an amazing debut. The keys and guitar solos shine.
It’s a great first album by an iconic band. I have always listened to other albums by them more, so going back and listening to this one I was surprised at how more bluesy it was than rock and roll. Still a classic album though.
Great guitar solos! That voice…love it-
Hört tusen gånger. Deras två första av de "fyra" var väldigt blues-iga, vilket kan vara dåligt. Men i detta fall rätt bra. Ikoniskt. Utdaterat men tidslöst på samma gång.
klasyk
Awesome
I'm not a fan of Jimmy Page, less so the more I read about him, the bullying, the wholesale theft of other artists' work and the struggle to admit to it, the faux-witchcraft, the under age girlfriends. Compared to Jeff Beck, Ritchie Blackmore even Eric Clapton, he is a sloppy guitarist, on electric at least. But what is he is is an excellent producer, with an ear for sound and instrument placement. LZ I displays the beginnings of this. The album sounds good although maybe lacking in the bottom end that later albums have. "Good Times Bad Times" and "Communication Breakdown" display early metal blueprint, the former having a nice rounded bass tone and excellent bass drum work, both of which would benefit from a low end boost. "Babe, I'm Gonna Leave You", "Dazed and Confused" and "How Many More Times" are fine examples of the dynamics between the quartet and in the breadth of material. They are also the first examples of Page's tactic of claiming authorship of music because he arranged it slightly differently. It took over 20 years for Anne Bredon to gain a credit and back royalties. "You Shook Me" is a more obvious robbery as Page's Yardbirds colleague and friend, Jeff Beck had just released his version and was reportedly livid. At least Willie Dixon is given his due as composer and I have to admit that, while I prefer Rod Stewart's vocal and Beck's guitar, the arrangement and, especially, the mixing lifts the Zeppelin version above the Jeff Beck Group one. "I Can't Quit You Baby" is an excellent version of another Dixon song and (another stolen song) "Black Mountain Side" is a demonstration of Page's acoustic playing which would come to the fore on LZ III. My favourite track is "Your Time Is Gonna Come" which opens side 2. It offers the lighter and harder sides of Zeppelin in the same song, with the acoustic guitar to the fore on both and fine playing from Bonham and Jones, whose drone pedal tones on the organ anchor the chorus, a breather before the next section takes off. A really good album with better to come.
Haven’t listened to this album in years. I really enjoyed it, although it’s not my favorite of theirs. I didn’t notice when it ended Spotify started playing other songs of theirs, and I was liking those songs more.
Having now listened to the zeppelin quadrilogy, this one sits at the same height to me as II. There is flashy guitar play, dirty blues, belts that pierce all, and exceplent drums. The tandem of good times bad times and Babe I'm gonna leave you is the highlight for me for its sheer epicness.
Cutting edge record. A hard listen back in the day but it is classic now.
the Led Zep consistency continues
For e debut album, this is great.... Too many songs are "influenced" by other artists... but it's still a good album.
def need a relisten
Album was fire, little jammy, but obviously still great. Songs are incredible and true Rock n' Roll. 8.1/10
I wasn't really feeling in the mood for Led Zep but as I reached the third song, I was still hella into the album and really enjoying the groove. I think that says a lot.
Led Zeppelin I kicks the door in with a sound that felt massive for 1969—heavy, bluesy, and dripping with attitude. From the thunder of Good Times Bad Times to the sprawling Dazed and Confused, the album wastes no time showing off the band’s raw power and musicianship. Jimmy Page’s guitar work is inventive and biting, John Bonham’s drumming is seismic, and Robert Plant’s vocals are already soaring into rock legend territory. That said, while the highs are undeniable, not every track hits with the same force. A couple of the blues covers meander a little, and the album can feel like a band still finding their exact identity. But as debut statements go, it’s loud, confident, and laid the groundwork for what was to come. A strong start to one of rock’s most iconic runs
Pretty good
took until like the middle for me to get used to it but solid 🤘
ich hatte es nicht so gut in erinnerung! ich bin eigentlich kein großer classic rock fan, aber das ist cool.
I enjoy this. I like the raw feeling and the riffs and drum lines deliberately meant to compliment the in your face vocals of Robert Plant. Led Zeppelin is one of the few '70's hard rock groups that I can listen to whenever.
its alright rock, not to eye catching to me
Everything to come was in full flower on this stellar debut album. Plant's wailing, Pages's guitar explosions, and the John's booming rhythm section. All of it coalesced into hard blues rock nirvana.
music to be stoned in your room to
Good stuff, but not their best.
4 Sterne, gerne wieder
Amazing album, not as good as some of their others, but still a great listen!
"No stairway, Denied!"
I love heaps of tracks on this album, particularly 'Babe I'm going to leave you' which has personal significance for little 16 year old me as I was pining after the 'love-of-my-life' who had moved away, I cried to this song for weeks! The whole album has strong nostalgia vibes for my late highschool years. Reading through some of the reviews and doing some digging, it seems like a fair few of the tracks are covers, plagiarised or at a minimum very heavily influence by other songs/musicians - I listened to a bunch of the original songs these tracks are based on and musically the Zepplelin ones are far superior. I guess the issue is more that they were flogged as originals and musicians not credited - tricky with the blues, but the band still could have done better on giving credit where credit is due. That plus being creeps to women and underage girls gives this album minus one star. Love the music though.
Very enjoyable, love the instrumentals. Doesn't really have any bangers (other than good times bad times with that drumming) so doesn't quite reach the 5/5.
Love Zeppelin, love this album.
I grew up listening to Led Zeppelin, and they used to be my favorite band of all time. This is the second Led Zeppelin album I've came across during this generator, and I'm just going to go ahead, and say it: Led Zeppelin is a glorified cover band. Every song on this track is talented, from the sick guitar riffs from Jimmy Page, to the array of instruments from John Paul Jones, to one of the greatest Rock Songs of all time-so great, it got its own movie title("Dazed And Confused"). While there are some duds which will prevent me from giving this a five-star rating, I can't anyway because it surpasses the 25% rule. It's as simple as this-if 25%, or more of the songs on an album are cover songs from other artists, I won't give it a five-star rating no matter what. I have to deduct a star. This really isn't an issue with 99% of artists I come across, but obviously Led Zeppelin is a different story. For anyone coming at me with their pitchforks, I applied this same rule to the self-titled album by "The Rolling Stones"(which was also their debut album). This album is great from the perspective of sound, and production, but unfortunately, 33.3% of the songs were written from other artists, so it loses a star. The biggest knock against this legendary band is their originality(or lack of for that matter). Favorite Track: "Dazed And Confused".
Great album. I don't like the "roadhouse" songs as much, and Jimmy Page is a piece of shit. "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" is my favorite song on the album because the guitar is fucking fantastic.
I can appreciate the talent and skill here, but it isn't for me
Led Zeppelin. Classic. Good tunes, Great album.
Once again, I’m learning I like led zeppelin
All the classics we listened to.
Great blend, nice to have as driving or background work music
Aged like fine wine
Same as previously reviewed: "Prefer LZ IV, but this is still a great album! So many great tracks. 4 for this one."
Pretty good!
A solid and groovy rock album! I love me some Led Zeppelin so I very much enjoyed this listen and would listen to it again. I would highly recommend this to others!
Good but probably wouldn't listen again. 4/5
Liked it. 4/5
Pretty solid throughout, could listen to multiple times without wanting to skip anything necessarily unlike Gorillaz.
Very good. Dont think it's the best LZ album. Favourite song is a cover/rearrangement (Babe I'm Gonna Leave You). 4/5.
Is what it is... great rock.
Love even flow
Not bad at all for a debut - Plant’s vocals are just brilliant. A couple of weaker songs leaves this on 4.5 stars but ultimately it’s a brilliant album.
Pretty good. Very soulful.
Pretty solid for a debut album, but you can tell they were still a little raw. If you've heard blues breakdowns before there is nothing new there, its a short listen and really. their best was yet to come. How Many More Times was probably my favorite on this album.
Lots of classic songs on this one… and some shitty blues. Pretty standard Zeppelin album all in all Dread Zeppelins version of “Your Time Is Going to Come” is better
Definitely baby Led Zeppelin, first song awesome. everything else was good by not as captivating as later albums 3.5
Pretty good debut. They really locked it in over the next few albums. Don't love Plant's voice, but Bonham's drumming more than makes up for it.
Tykkiä kamaa. Ei niinkään zeppeliinin isoimpia hittejä, mutta tasaisen vahvaa suorittamista koko levy. Hyvä kuunneltava, muttei kuitenkaan se zeppelinin paras. Parhaat: Let The Good Times Roll, Dazed and Confused, Babe I'm Gonna Leave You
1001 Albums Generator 1 In the days of my youth, I was told what it means to be a man Does it get more iconic than this? Play the opening of Dazed and Confused for an uncontacted civilization and they will immediately understand the appeal of advanced society. The first two chord stabs that open the album? Good Times Bad Times, for my money, has to be one of the most unforgettable opening tracks to an album ever. Meanwhile, the guitar solo for Communication Breakdown sounds like what AI would generate if asked to write a hard rock guitar solo. It's that paramount. You don't need me to convince you of the greatness of the hits on this album. The parts of this album that I have really come to appreciate are the slower moments. The folksy cover of Babe I'm Gonna Leave You. The open tuning and almost American Primitivism sound of Black Mountain Side. The way that John Bonham's drums and JPJ's organ in the chorus of Your Time Is Gonna Come hit like a ton of bricks, while Jimmy Page keeps a soft, acoustic sound throughout. These little details, while done even better in their subsequent albums, show what separates LZ from the pack. Led Zeppelin is not a band accused of high levels of originality, but I think that the derivativeness of their work does get overstated, while the creativity of their work goes relatively unsaid. This inventiveness is seen in moments such as the middle of the solo in I Can't Quit You Baby, where the band transitions from a relatively normal 12-bar blues to a strange start/stop instrumental interplay, before going right back to something more standard. Similarly, You Shook Me is a largely normal affair before Jimmy Page and Robert Plant enter into one of the strangest call-and-response sections that I have ever heard. Plant moans into the mic while Page responds in kind with a backwards echo sort of effect. The closing track, while not my favorite, has its share of creative production choices strewn throughout it as well. There are some moments I don't love. The aforementioned You Shook Me is a bit too slow for my tastes and does seem to overstay its welcome. In general, although this album was short enough to fit on a single LP, it does feel a bit overlong at times, especially considering 3 of the songs are over 6 minutes. This band had not reached their creative or songwriting peak yet, so these longer songs (with the exception of Dazed and Confused) don't justify their length the way their long jams on later albums would. Overall, this album is a great start to an even better discography. Hard rock forever. Favs: Good Times, Bad Times Dazed and Confused Your Time Is Gonna Come Least Fav: You Shook Me
4.5
Actually p good
I forgot how good this is.
Never quite clicked with Zeppelin. Stills 4 Star album just not beloved.
First listen to full led zeppelin album. Liked it very much even though it's not the genre I usually like. Iconic sound and voice. RAW sound
Classic sound! Dazed & Confused should be on every playlist. A little slower tempo throughout the album than I prefer but fantastic use of non-rock instruments scattered about to fill the spaces. Songs are long too with numerous instrumental interludes.
It's not my style, but it was interesting to listen to how the band was experimenting with blues and hard rock. It sounded more like a jam-time. Was a great experience.
This is a fantastic debut album. It isn't their best (Led Zeppelin IV and Physical Graffiti definitely beat it out), however, most groups wish they could put out an album this good. There are so many classics here and "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" is one of my favorite acoustic pieces in all of rock. It has some "fine" tracks, but this is a great listen. Liked Songs: "Good Times Bad Times" , "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" , "Dazed and Confused" , "Your Time is Gonna Come" , "Communication Breakdown"
Having already had both Led Zeppelin II and Led Zeppelin III, it’s about time I got their debut album! This was really solid, wasn’t quite as good LZII but I liked it more than LZIII. Led Zeppelin are a great band and so far none of thee albums they have on this list have been bad
What I can really add to what's been said about this band and this album? Led Zeppelin is the best hard rock band of all time. Not sure anyone comes close. They have multiple 5 star albums. This one is excellent as well, but musically, I would only give it 4.5 stars -- as good as it is, I am knocking it a little because of the lack of "singles" (and I'm a prog rock guy who doesn't need singles, but a few of these songs ramble too much for me).
babe im gonna leave you is my favorite song on here
מממממ יאמי
Good but not yet at the level they would ascend.
Well it's Led Zeppelin doing their thing. Bluesy grooves, less driving than the Zeppelin I really love, but this album is the core of the band and you can't really fault it
Actually really fantastic. I loved the sound and feel of this album so much. The guitar and drum work was amazing and each song was dynamic and interesting. Particularly loved Babe I'm Gonna Leave You, You Shook Me, and Dazed and Confused. 4.5/5 stars.
too normal rock
This was a good rock album. Not something I would play again but still good
The birth of one of the greats, some of these songs sound like they had years of work put into them when they're really just the quick scraps of "the New Yardbirds." I love how prevalent covers were on older albums and debuts both to garner attention and provide depth when there was not nearly as much in the field as there is today. What a start
7.5/10 Fave track: Dazed and confused
Thought this was a very good album with plenty of big hits. I supposed I did want to love it more than I did, especially outside of the big, known songs. 8/10
led zeppelin
Prefer LZ IV, but this is still a great album! So many great tracks. 4 for this one.
It's the best led Zeppelin album out there but a solid one nonetheless.
Great album, the only thing I didn’t like was the last song
This album motivated me to do the fattest line of imaginary cocaine off my work-issued laptop and proceed to be productive as fuck. Once I sobered up, I realized I had just been creating a zine in Canva Pro.
Google Times Bad Times, Babe I'm Gonna Leave You, and Dazed and Confused, maybe even Communication Breakdown, are huge jams that I've bopped to when I was younger and they sound almost as good nowadays. Overall, great album, has a few huge hits but definitely not as popular as the fourth Led Zeppelin album.
it was a very good i think . i liked
Zeppelin makes rock and roll sound obscene, like it should be.
It is almost a 5 from me. Maybe lot of man does not know but there is a few covers on the album. And the second half of the album is a bit weaker.
Really enjoyed this I only discovered them after the second album
Being a Zeppelin fan, I’ve listened to this album many a time but listening to this as a part of this daily album challenge out into perspective just how freaking good their work is. Back to back weeks of Zeppelin spoiled me, but maybe that’s what I needed. Their first and second albums are arguably their best and masterpieces in their own right. I really can’t believe this is their debut album, it’s just so brilliant. B-side drifts off a little bit but you can understand that being their debut… nonetheless it’s music I’ll revisit over and over again. Good times bad times! 4.5
Listened to this a few times yesterday. Very little fat, straightforward blues influenced rock. A solid album.
Iconic and ahead of its time despite some alleged plagiarism from Jimmy Paige.
Great variety of songs, rather than just constant noise. An album from the 70’s that would be a hit in the 2020’s. 8.4/10.
Rawk and Roll! I have nostalgic memories of me and my buddies jamming on "How Many More Times?" It is not a five because it isn't my favorite Led Zeppelin record, but it is up there!
Don't know how this one isn't in my collection yet. Would love to have seen the impact / effect this one had when it was released
classic
En av alla tiders bästa debut album. Första sidan är alldeles felfri. Andra halvan blir lite mera "loose" och når inte helt samma nivå. Stark 4
Good
I was really impressed with this for a debit album. But then Joel told me a fact I didn't know before: they were all in other bands before LZ. Makes sense because this doesn't seem like works of novices, like they knew what they wanted to do and did it. Very bluesy.
A hell of debut. All musicians sound great, particularly for it being a first album. You can hear the foundation of where things were going to go. Stand outs for me are Good Times Bad Times and How Many More Times.
Turbo klasyk, to nie moze sie zestarzec
Great Album !!! Heavy blues sound.
Zep’s never done it for me.
Nice.
the birth of a blues rock legend
loving Zepplin more as I get older. You can really hear the blues influences in this one. Love it
Pretty damn good at parts. Some tracks drag it out though. Ultimately I like it but some are skips for me and I think better albums came before and after by both Led Zeppelin themselves and other artists. Despite that I do give credit where credit counts and I do enjoy this record.
Some stone cold classics, but not the overall power house of some of their other albums.
Hell yes! Hard to believe this was their first album and they weren’t even signed yet. They had it all: the swagger, the musicianship, those vocals, Robert Plant in puffy shirts. The only reason this isn’t a full five is that their later albums are even better. 4.5⭐️
I Like em, i should Love em but i dont
Led Zeppelin
A bit raw. A bit contrived. But still Zepplin and was a sign of even more greatness to come for them.
"Good Times Bad Times" is a wonderful opener which sets the tone for the album, all the way through up to "Black Mountain Side" is some really good stuff. The only reason I don't like that track is because it is purely instrumental, but it's not even that good, so there is no merit to it in my opinion. Then to the end we're back to the original feel of the album. Very solid debut from a band that will prove themselves time and time again in coming records. 8.6/10
first two songs are absolutely positively insane, i did get a bit bored during some other songs but overall holy shit eh
Like tempo of Good Times Bad Times and Babe I'm Gonna Leave You, especially like how latter starts off slow and moody and then becomes a jam with guitars and drums. You Shook Me is slower but still structured. Also he parrots the guitar which is both impressive and annoying. Dazed and Confused also starts slow but picks up. Your Time is Gonna Come, foreboding organ relaxes into acoustic guitar and drum groove, layered vocals in chorus. Black Side Mountain, acoustic guitar creates structured melodic chord outline, interlude. Communication Breakdown, 8th note guitar underneath poppier drums and guitars on off beat. I Can't Quit You Baby, waltz tempo, bass and drums interspersed with vocals and echo-y electric guitar. How Many More Times starts with groovy syncopated bass, guitar picks up riff, a bop.
A fantastic album! Nuff said!
1. Dazed and confused 2. Baby i'm gonna leave you 3. Good times bad times
I really wish I'd heard this in 1969, instead of on a dull January day, thirteen months into the 1001 project, during which time I've heard a LOT of noisy albums by hairy blokes with guitars, including two other Led Zep albums. I'm feeling a tad jaded. And that's a shame, because this is a brilliant debut. Gorgeous guitar, of both the acoustic folk and face-melting blues-rock varieties. I love Robert Plant's voice (if not what he's singing about some of the time). I love that they recorded this pretty much made up on the spot, without a record deal. It's clearly the birth of a fantastic rock band. I wasn't really in the mood, but I bet it sounded wondrous in 1969, so I've tried to mark it objectively.
Enjoyed this way more than a) I expected and b) the other 427 Led Zeppelin albums we’ve been forced to listen to
Holy drums right off the bat. Then guitar. Vocals last with bass. But they’re all so good! Acoustic guitar use in Babe is amazing. The rhythm from it is almost classical to me. AN ORGAN?!?! A HARMONICA?!?! Holy shit. Bluesy. Enjoyed this way more than I thought I would! Definitely a blind spot in my music knowledge because this kind of rock and roll was satan worship music lol. 3.61/5
I preferred the first one, still ok with great songs. 7-8/10. With a relisten it will get higher for sure
Dieses Album zeigt, was Ende der 60er musikalisch möglich war. No excuse Beatles zu hören.
Lots of classic songs
Like the other Led Zeppelin albums i listened to, Led Zeppelin was a legitimately great album. For a pretty early album in the metal genre, This album still managed to do so many interesting things to the point where it didn't sound all too basic like a lot of early albums of their respective genres do. Most of the songs here were pretty long but still managed keep me hooked throughout their whole runtime by doing enough to add to the typical blues-hard rock sound that this band is known for. While this album doesn't seem to have a lot of Led Zeppelin's most popular songs, I still really liked this album. Best Song: Babe I'm Gonna Leave You Worst Song: Good Times Bad Times
Best Zeppelin yet!
Required listening for Rock, Metal and Blues fans.
Getting the Led feels pretty good
Every rock band ever ripped this off
Led Zeppelin surely is a terrific band, however, they did steal a lot of their music. So for that I docked him a point. Should have docked them too, but they're hella good musicians.
turns out I like Led Zeppelin more than Pink Floyd.
Rart album. Meget behageligt, stille og roligt
This album has a number of stand out songs and a great sound. A lot of the tracks are definitely classic staples of the Rock/metal genres. Some tracks like You Shook Me and I can't quit you baby lean into the blues aspect of rock which I usually don't personally love a whole lot, but was able to really enjoy listening to this album. Even country aspects make their way into songs like Your Time Is Gonna Come. The last song of the album How many More Times opened with a jazzy, soft drumline that really surprised me. The second half of the song really leans heavily into a more "psychedelic" sound which I rather enjoyed as well. Stand out songs include How Many More Times, Good Times Bad Times, Dazed and Confused, and the aforementioned You Shook Me. I did really appreciate the more up tempo songs like the end of Dazed and confused. Plenty of great guitar solos in this album. Lots of spaces where there is no lyrics and just wailing guitar that build into great swelling moments. Also enjoyed Robert Plant sounding like he was about to bust a fat nut all the time. I do think Robert Plants lyrics really are fantastic too. One things for sure, I can definitely imagine listening to this and taking some heat from Charlie while hanging out the side of a ratty Huey in 1969
8/10 Fav tracks - Babe I'm gonna leave you, You Shook Me, Dazed and Confused, How Many Morw Times
So uh, what are you trying to tell me here little man? You don't like Zepp?
Love the hollow room analog sound and some of the songs so laid back like they’re being sung in a big cave. It’s so interesting hearing true analog and live recordings in the digital era where everything is recorded in quiet rooms or pre-programmed.
Not yet peak Zeppelin but, pretty darn close. While I feel plenty of nostalgia for this record, it really grows into itself with finest full band song being How Many More Times
An appropriate first review, as this album came out the year I was born. I was a latecomer in my appreciation for Zeppelin, but this record brings it all home. I can hear the deep blues influences, but also revel in the band forging a new path into hard rock. I also hear the DNA strands of the bands that they clearly influenced over the decades--all the way from arena rock, to southern rock, to grunge, to modern rock.
Classic...
Respect the classics, man.
Fantastic album, it absolutely rocks. The bests tracks are top tier rock songs and the worse ones are still very enjoyable. An album with a lot of passion and energy
It feels crazy to me that this music existed in the 1960's, like it just feels so ahead of its time? And unexpected. "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" "You Shook Me" "Your Time Is Gonna Come"
Good Times Bad Times Babe I'm Gonna Leave You Dazed and Confused Communication Breakdown How Many More Times
Your time is gonna come..hörte und fühlte ich auch.
heard songs off of this album a ton, nothing crazy anymore, or at least in a modern-day context. Just Dad Rock.
74/100. An enjoyable listen and undeniably iconic within its genre.
Baby I'm Gonna Leave You is one of my favorite Zeppelin songs. I enjoyed the album, its got some bangers. I'm not sure how I feel this band gets overplayed more than the Beatles but to me its true. Maybe the songs don't stand up to as much replay for me. Solid, classic album though.
Shit goes hard.
Classic and iconic.
Bombazza divina con solo canzoni cult ma non il loro best porcodio
It is a classic but it's also a tad overrated. The issue for me is these songs were "liberally borrowed" from artists (mostly black blues artists) without their permission or consent. Granted, the bluesmen didn't have a rhythm section like John Paul Jones or especially John Bonham that dramatically changed the sound and feel of these tracks. It gets a high grade for the strong bass and drums but not perfect because it's not totally original.
Led Zeppelin fall squarely out of the period of rock I really care about, but for some reason this record stands out to me as a towering achievement in the genre (I say that as if it isn't Led Zeppelin). Babe I'm Gonna Leave You, Dazed and Confused, Communication Breakdown, How Many Times, all these songs effectively butchered and ripped classic blues and put a bunch of overdrive on it; in the process, this burgeoned an explosive mix that would come to define the next decade or three of popular music. I love this album despite all the reasons I shouldn't. Yes, Jimmy page is a riff-stealing asshat. Yes, LZ have become synonymous with the exact type of rock supremacy and elitism that's been ruining music discussions since I was in the cradle. But Led Zeppelin's best albums are a force of nature, this one being no different. Just close your eyes for a second and imagine bearing witness to this album releasing in 1969...
Dazed and confused
Pretty good, has some classics.
The classical youthful sound of Led Zeppelin is truly unmatchable, but I honestly think it's not as good as everyone says. For being their first record, it seems like it lacks some of the classic sound of rebellion and absolute chaos. It feels a little too organized, nevertheless, it still is a good album with some few shocking songs that are quite good.
3.5.
I love the blues roots here. Personal enjoyment: 4/5 Relevance to this list: 5/5
I usually just say yes to these albums. But in account of the fact that they have better ones, or more cosmic ones IMO, I can’t just give this a 10
Ive never become a zepp fan but this is the closest i think ill get. This is obviously very good. Ive always been on the fence with regard to his voice but it makes sense here. The guitars are really very good and the songs are very catchy. Its still a bit Jeremy Clarkson for me but this is obviously great.
It’s obvious to my ears that Ozzy and Geezer were taking notes when this album dropped. It’s also interesting to hear the primordial versions of some Led Zeppelin legendary songs in this first album. That said, this is so straight-up blues-soaked rock - it’s hard to consider this heavy metal but it’s really interesting to understand that the blues is the foundation to heavy metal. This album proves it. It’s an important album.
It's very good, nice to learn some rock history
Fuckin’ right on! Can’t say anything more about this album than has already been said!
Nice
Made me feel like Dean Winchester
Iconic sound all around. The music was so distinct for the time, and even still today. The musicianship and vocals were something else and still resonate powerfully in present times. What a great journey this introduction to Led Zeppelin is.
Solid debut album, crazy to think that this was released 55 years ago
loop zoop
Babe I’m Gonna Leave You and Dazed and Confused are great songs. The rest - eh. I give it 3.5/5 but for its iconic-ness and influence it gets a 4.
Having so many classic on one album is an impressive feat, especially for their first album. But because of that, I have high standard for every song on a Led Zeppelin album, and there are two that don't hold up to the rest, stopping it from being a perfect album
This might be my favourite Led Zeppelin album because I like how much it sonically remains rooted in the 60s in the choruses to Good Times, Bad Times and Your Time Is Gonna Come, something they lost as 70 rock behemoths. Also I wish Jimmy Page had done more Bert Jansch/Davey Graham rip offs.
Nice album, great songs variety, cross different genre, like the songs arrangement
get the led out!
An unbelievable debut album, LZ1’s drums guitar , the progressive rock and the beautiful guitar sound keeps you engaged the entire time Closing in on a perfect album, LZ1 lacks slightly in polish and suffers from having only a few replayable single songs … a classic , LZ1 is a high level 4
