Reviews (page 8 of 8)

It’s kind of just noise.

Some solid tracks, not very memorable, nothing stands out much. 5/10

Listened Before? N As an American, I'm not familiar with these guys at all. I think some of the "must hear" aspect for this album is nostalgia. It's honestly kind of uninspired and boring. Not sure the appeal here. I couldn't wait for it to be over. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: That's Entertainment

Ja weer niets speciaals

You get exactly what it says on the tin with the Jam. Paul Weller's slightly shouty vocals over a seventies backing track with drums and guitars. I like music that breaks a mold. This doesn't.

I write usually write this bit the next day and I can honestly not even remember the album. This hasn't happened before. Completely forgettable.

new wave, punk, britannia. eipä ollut yksi niistä harvoista kerroista kun nuo sanat tulee positiivisella mielellä ulos. ei yhtään mitään tässä, hämmästyttää kuinka tykätty. hyviä TUUTULAULUJA... meinasin nukahtaa..heh... no basso on hyvö..pari kiva biisiä man in the corner shop

Pretty ambivalent on this band, and pretty puzzled as to why it has two (at least to this point) inclusions on this list, along with a Paul Weller solo record. The maker's of this list are really showing their biases. Pretty inconsequential listen.

Dit beklijfde totaal niet.

Has some catchy elements.

That's Entertainment is a pretty good song from the era but the rest of the album is just kind of a blur. Not sure if there was anything worthwhile, nothing caught my ear

Interesting transitional album between classic rock, punk, and new wave, but there’s a reason no one remembers this one

Okay! Back at it, after an unusual 1-week absence. Time for a prototype British punk record whose influence apparently knows no bounds, who seem like they must share DNA with the Kinks… who I had trouble getting into. I liked the eclecticism, I like the tongue-in-cheek feeling of the music, but nothing really stuck with me. It might have been the fact that I listened on the plane while half asleep. I gave it another chance while more awake, and there still wasn’t anything for me to grasp onto that I actually loved. 2/5

Too ordinary

was fine. Nothing stood out for me

This one didn't really even register with me.

A Paul McCartney inspired punk. Sounds fancy, yes? In reality, it's just mediocre punk with good bass.

Meh, not my jam....

Not feeling this album at all and even though I just listened to it, I can hardly remember a song.

Fine but utterly forgettable

This album exists. There isn't much else to say about it.

The storytelling in the songs added a plus to the experience, music was simple with well thought accents throughout the album

Fine. Non-memorable.

Won't listen to it again tbh...

Not a fan

Best Song: But I'm Different Now. I have a soft spot for songs that come and go in a flash but are able to leave an impression in that time. Worst Song: Music For The Last Couple. Clearly experimental with that bizarre intro, but that pseudo-reggae vibe wasn't for me. Overall: Bouncy 80s rock album. Had never heard any of it before. In the end it was better than my low expectations, but it also wasn't something that I feel excited to return to.

Meh, that's what this album felt like. It's an ok sounding album overall, but nothing that makes it truly special. To me their sound feels quite generic, perhaps its their heavy influence from other post punk groups such as Joy Division, even going so far as to copy the baseline from The Beatles Taxman and borrowing elements from Michael Jackson's Off the Wall album. Best: Monday Worst: That's Entertainment

I thought it was pretty okay, but after having listened to it about a week ago I can't remember a single thing off of here that was memorable. 2.5/5

I wasn't a fan of this.

Have never even heard of this band before. First impressions of songs 1. Learned that "Pretty Green" that I knew by Mark Ronson and Santigold is a cover - who knew?! 2. "Monday" - kind of reminds me of Fountains of Wayne lol 3. "But I'm Different Now" - like the intro, but I'm thinking I just don't like this guys voice that much but good song 4. "Set the House Ablaze" - the guitar riff intro sounds linkin park-y; i don't like the talking as much it's hard to understand 5. "Start!" - the horns I like. this sounds very british to me 6. "That's Entertainment" - meh feels fake deep but it's fine 7. "Dream Time" - also fine 8. "Man in the Corner Shop" - these are really sounding kind of all the same to me 9. "Music for the Last Couple" - looong intro, I don't get this song at all 10. "Boy About Town" - this is a little more upbeat and catchy 11. "Scrape Away" - a nice cap for the album Thinking about how many albums on this list are going to be white men that kind of sound the same to me? Shocked to learn this band had 18 consecutive top 40 singles in the UK with "that's entertainment" being one of the best-selling import singles of all time in the UK as of 2007 New album of the day - Ari Lennox "age/sex/location"

Nothing special. Sounds like XTC. Why did we need to hear this before we die? Saved one tho so I'll give it like a 1.5

Tgohja, alweer saaie britpop.

was an okay Album, not really for me

Not for me

They should have quit after In the City - one great album followed by bunches of pablum.

Can't remember a single song from my listen

I didn't make notes on it last week and now I don't recall. Must not be memorable.

Didn’t do much for me. Most of the songs just weren’t that memorable in terms of instrumental or lyricism. 4/10

It was an okay album. Felt like it was stuck in the middle between older brit rock and Green Day. The felt like a band that was more important during their time than lasting over the years. I didn’t think it was bad just not something I would revisit. 5.3/10

nah ehe

Forgettable British music.

Not my taste, but it was an energetic album from start to finish.

annoyingly similar to the one preceding

Didn’t like!!

Damn, three in a row of albums I could do without. Another middle-of-the-pack '80s alt-rock type of album, which make up such an outsized portion of this list. Again, can't say this is bad music at all, it just doesn't stand out for me, especially amid so many similar albums we've heard. I will say though that the album title is very clever: sound does affect, even though this collection of sounds won't affect me much. I liked a coupe tracks, but one of those was just because "Start" sounds almost exactly like "Taxman" from the Beatles. I'll move on from this quickly. Favorite tracks: Start, Man in the Corner Shop. Album art: Somewhat interesting collage of images, though the commitment to such a drab color palette is a bit frustrating. 2.5/5

Not really my style. A bit boring. Only song I could see myself listening to again is Boy About Town

Not me cup o' tea, but sounds quality enough. Can't decipher a single lyric though

pretty dull 80s stuff, whiny vocals and boring songs.

First listen: That's Entertainment probably saves this from being a one. Maybe just unlucky with successive 80's UK punk/post-punk/mod rock/whatever but I've not really been enjoying these. 2/5

It was ok.

I like it, good noise.

Didn't grab me

It seems like the first rock band ever, except most rock bands do everything they tried to do better lol. They had good ideas but the execution was pretty poor to be honest. Only 2 songs were decent imo, the rest were a chore to listen to. I respect the attempt though

Boring sounding and generic. I don't think it's necessarily bad, I just don't think it's great. Like I said, boring and generic, it kind of all sounds the same.

Boring lol

Anstrengend

Very British.

Me esperaba... Post punk, new wave...

Didn’t really like. Kind of a punk sound sound, not my music style.

Wasn’t too bad, but nothing memorable.

It's fine... and while I wouldn't listen again, I can get why people would like it

Meh. Does nothing for me

I found this album pretty average, to be honest. 2/5 stars.

It was fine.

2.5 but like their rock sound more than their pop sound

Hele vroege britpop. Mwah…

Vocalist reminds me of Bowie. Sounds exactly like late 70's early 80's England. Favorite Tracks: Music for the Last Couple That's Entertainment But I'm Different Now

Nothing stood out in this one.

Okay, but just okay.

It's not my type of music, but it is catchy. Wouldn't really listen to this again.

Another band with poor SEO! Shame. Didn't really like the music but the cover is great, 10/10 design

Nothing much to say. Completely uninteresting and sometimes bordering on annoying. At least it was pretty short.

Fine. The guitar riff in 'Set the House Ablaze' sounds a lot like Helicopter from Bloc party so that song was p neat

not bad, 4/10

Just fine, nothing stand out.

didnt finish

Not bad. Probably won't listen again, but wouldn't be against it.

giving me very much rah rah rah energy yk. 2.5

The Jam did not have much hits in the Netherlands. A town called Malice was the most famous one in the Netherlands. Nice to have heard this album. The song Start! was the sound of this band I remember.

nije mi baš neš

Couldn't really get into this one. It was ok but we've had some others in this genre I liked a lot more.

A bit too mundane

It was good but nothing life changing

I think my parents would enjoy this...

A perfectly fine rock record with my only question being, "Why is this here?" It's alright, but I don't see any reason this should be on here. It's Stones-esque, Who-esque at certain points, but it's just pretty boring, if competent. Favorite tracks: "But I'm Different Now", "Set the House Ablaze"

I don't understand what people like so much about this. It feels so uninteresting, sparse, and entirely not memorable. I don't know what the hell changed between All Mod Cons and this one, but man The Jam sounds pretty lousy. Not a single catchy lick or moment of vocal prowess. Fave track: - That's Entertainment

Good stuff, but not for me.

Not really interested in this sound

um i cant listen to this im nauseous today

Not that good

I don't care for british pop bands and this list will not convince me

honestly................. this sucked so bad

boring. plain.

God I fucking hate the British

This album is alright. Good for background music, or a movie montage, maybe. Not for me, though, aside from 2 tracks.

It's a no for me.

Didn’t care for it.

Not my jam.

1. green - 1 2. monday - 1.5 3. different - 1 4. houze - 2 5. ztart - 1 6. entertainment - 0 7. dream - 0 8. man - 1 9. muzic - 0 10. touun - 0 11. zcrape - 1.5

Bland brit rock. Not interested.

If I had to describe this album with one word it would be 'horrendous'. The best part about that word is that it reaches its 'end' faster than the album did

Could only listen to a couple songs. Just irritating

So tired of this garbage British new wave. So boring

some real mediocre shit brit-pop puke NNN

English rock band of many out of the 70’s. Tried their hand in all forms of music from mod to punk. Couple hits, but not the success of other English bands.

Meh. Too 80sey

Too british, funky

Meh. I appreciate the early British ska/punk roots but don’t enjoy actually listening to it. I prefer Joy Division or their peers. Just sounded too much like chaotic noise at times and I found myself zoning out each song. I’d give it two stars for nostalgia but one for actually enjoying it.

Not good

When I think of records that are on a list with the bold title of "listen to before you die" this is just not one I would've regretted not listening to. There was nothing there. Nothing that seemed innovative for its time, nothing that sparked any kind of emotion. Snoozefest.

Did not like. Thought it was lackluster and didn't even finish.

Lol start! is a blatant rip off of Taxman. Yikes album

35 Minuten einfallslose, uninspirierte Langeweile. Zum Fremdschämen.

Escutei todas as faixas e já ignoro tudo completamente.

Redundant

I don't have many opinions about this album. It sounded like generic rock to me, I didn't hate it, but I didn't particularly enjoy any of the songs. It felt like an album Jason would listen to while driving or something. Favorite song: N/A Worst song: N/A

Non 2/10

Like the concept. But not for me.

Nope I didnt like it

not a fan

English punk rock. Ugh
