Reviews (page 4 of 13)

“Ladies and gentlemen - Foo FIGHTERS!!” One of the best American bands of the 21st century IMO (yes i know they formed in the mid 90’s). This self-titled album was the beginning of their success and while it isn’t their best work, it laid the down the template for the sort of music they would be building on for decades to come. Dave Grohl’s voice and music ability is unreal and you catch glimpses of it on this creation. I was very excited to see this album pop up as today’s listen and it did not disappoint.

Taken right back to being 17!

Great album

this album was definitely my speed. i love grunge music, so i was quite excited to get ready to this album. my top three songs were: - big me - alone + easy target - x-static

Been a while since I listened to grunge, pretty okay

Foo Fighters are like a really good plain cheeseburger. A good ol American rock staple… there’s better, there’s worse, but they’re always good and always right there if you need something to eat and don’t care that much.

never really listened to Foo Fighters much except a few tracks, certainly not a whole album of theirs This Is a Call - 4/5 I'll Stick Around - 4/5 Big Me - 3/5 Alone + Easy Target - 4/5 Good Grief - 4/5 Floaty - 5/5 Weenie Beenie - 2/5 Oh, George - 3/5 For All the Cows - 4/5 X-Static - 4/5 Wattershed - 3/5 Exhausted - 4/5 Average score: 3.7/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

90s rock canon. Great songs. Almost gets a 5 for 'Big Me'

Raw. Liked it very much.

My high school self was delighted by this selection :)

JADORE pile mon delire oui

It’s annoyingly decidedly lo-fi, but now that I’m over it (and many of the albums after Wasting Light have been a Waste of Time), this album is quite good in retrospect. I wasn’t impressed at the time, but this album holds up very well and even improves in retrospect.

Opener is pretty nice, but basic and weird. Singing seems a bit forced at times, drums are mixed almost like they're separate to the song, it's a bit repetitive, and the "heavy" parts seem kind of disjointed, and due to the mixing really don't hit that hard. Catchy though, nice guitar playing. Nice closing overdriven guitar riff, really reminiscent of their later stuff. 6/10 Next track is immediately much better. Starts with a pretty simple drum intro, but when the guitar comes in is elevated a lot. Overall much nicer singing, nicer instrumentation, and the mixing isn't much different but fits the tone of the song MUCH better. The soft parts kind of take me out of it as a whole, but it could be worse overall. The use of riffing more than basic chord progressions is definitely the main reason this song is much better than the opener. 8/10 Big me is pretty much just everything that made the first song bad, with none of what made it good. Drums sound fake, guitar is INSUFFERABLY basic, singing sounds forced, repetitive etc. 3/10 Next song opens like a mix between 70's rock and roll, and Nirvana's In Utero, which is what makes the song sound so much more authentic than the others. After it comes out of the intro, it sounds even more like In Utero, even incorporating some bleach elements. The mixing on this song is definitely the best so far, as is the singing. The only problem is that, while each part sounds good individually, the drums fail to act as a blend between each element, so it ends up sounding kind of like a cheap replica. It's still enjoyable to listen to, but had so much wasted potential. The "harsh" vocals used on track 2 really could've done wonders on this song. It is refreshing after the train wreck that is the last song, and is another 8/10 (could be 7, but then again with better drumming could be a 9 so being generous). This next track opens exactly how I'd want it to. Finally a decent drum part, followed by fast, distorted guitar under an actually fitting clean singing section. Song order could be called into question really, but the "hey there" section followed by that guitar lead (or solo, whatever you want to call it) is very nice. Only complaint really is it doesn't sound like it fits in this album, at least not in this place, as alluded to earlier. Also a bit basic, but the mixing for the heavier parts really hits well like nowhere else in the album, and the drummer finally wakes up. To really make the mixing ideal, tightening the snare, hitting the kit harder, adding gain and compression and then simply lowering the output level would've fit well. The drums sound cleaner than the guitar, which is kind of annoying, and again, takes you out of it, but it is the best track so far. 9/10. Floaty opens with acoustic guitar, and initially sounds like it'll be a "Big Me" repeat but actually features some very interesting twists, the only big drawback really being the effects on the vocals being taken a step too far. The drums are on a consistent upturn throughout the album, and it's a bit repetitive but not bad. The song definitely meshes the soft and heavy parts better than any other song so far, but they don't have enough quality or originality to make the song better than songs like good grief or I'll stick around. 7/10, close to 8/10. The next track tries to open like good grief, but the riff is weak and the drums don't fit. The harsh vocals in use here are nice to hear, but would've been better in a million other places on the album. It's much too repetitive for my tastes. There's a cool riff about a minute before the end of the song, but it goes nowhere again. This is definitely a filler track, but the last minute isn't terrible I guess. 6/10 (closer to 5 than 7 though) Next track uses some interesting melodies, very refreshing after whatever the last track was. Drums, again, aren't really right for the song. Singing is much improved over the last track, and although it's much calmer, it sounds much more emotional and real than the last one. A bit repetitive, but not in a bad way. Nice guitar solo, the last minute and a half is definitely the better half, not that the first part is bad either. 7/10 Next track brings some originality back to the album. The drums here sound like they were actually written and played by a human, finally. The swing and the sudden stop after the swung note while the singing continues meshes really nicely, and then the heavy part actually sounds good, nothing sounds forced. This is the first song where the heavy and light parts not only sound good, but mesh together perfectly, despite being so different. Not as good as good grief, but still definitely the second best so far. 8/10 but very close to 9. Next track is decent, but just somewhat boring. Not particularly much to say about it. Drums are again mixed a bit weirdly but the playing itself is improved from a few others on the album. Also a bit repetitive but not numbingly so. 6/10 The intro on the next track is VERY exciting and energetic. The transition from clean to overdriven version of that riff with everything coming in sounds SO nice. Drums help supply the intensity perfectly, the "harsher" vocals really fit the vibe. This track is definitely the one of the best at being heavy on this album, but it does get a bit repetitive. Nice chord progression choices, but it felt like when they found something that worked they just ran with it and didn't bother to build on it much. I still like the track, but with that intro, it could've gone so much better and even been the first 10. Alas, 8/10. Exhausted opens with a slow, fuzzy guitar riff which definitely fits the name of the song. Drums do fit pretty well here, as do vocals. Not as exciting as the last track but it does its job just fine. It's a good closer, and it makes sense that this comes after the last song, the most abrasive one. (Not counting weeenie beenie because that one just isn't great). It feels somewhat like the closer of In Utero with respect to the rest of the album, which I'm just now realising as I wrote this is likely because of Dave Grohl. Overall 7/10 track. Album rating 7.1/10 (average rating excluding best and worst tracks)

4 stars bc Dave Grohl cheated on his wife. Otherwise I like the album, I think it'll continue to grow on me.

Me pareció un buen álbum. Entiendo que es el debut así que me sorprendió aún más. Me gustó mucho el sonido de la banda y creo que inaugurar una banda con este disco es increíble. 9/10

This is so unappealing, uninteresting, long, boring and energy draining. Through almost the entire album I had the feeling that I was listening to the same ideas over and over again. The same rock/country bases, same irritating vocal melodies, same garbage and passionless solos and same rhythms. The songs are obviously not the exact same, but they feel like they were all produced under the same awful blueprint. And to make matters worse, there are 4 songs that surpass the 7 minutes mark. There are a couple of exceptions. 'Farmer John' and 'Mother Earth' are the only songs that do something different. First one has a more alternative rock sound and the last one is basically a choir singing over a guitar. I honestly think these are the best tracks due to them breaking a bit the monotony, but still uninteresting. This was a pain to get through the two times I listened to it.

Takes me right back to my college radio days. How can I not be nostalgic for this Foo debut?! The lyrics are absolute nonsense, but the guitar crunch is solid. Hard to believe the Foo Fighters of today flourished out of this hobby project from Dave Grohl.

Un álbum demasiado genérico, pero no le quita que sea bueno, muy bueno, ninguna canción es un skip y todas son disfrutables. Exhausted, temazo.

I enjoyed it

Not Foo Fighters' best album, but a special one, as their debut it has a raw, punk, grunge sound and a searching for something.

Possibly underrated rebirth by Grohl here. Never really been a FF fan, but i think i was turned off by the more emo tunes like Everlong or Hero. This album is awesome (very Queens OTSA) and I don't think i've heard any of these songs. Yet another, wtf is wrong with me for not seeking this out. I have a theory about George Harrison and All Things Must Pass being the being solo album of anyone post Beatles because he had been banking songs John and Paul wouldn't let him record. Same thing applies to stand up comics killing with first special then fading. Can't say Grohl faded, but he was probably writing these songs for many years and unloaded the clip (no pun intended) when Kurt passed. Dave Grohl rocks.

Although it sounds a little consistent/one-note sometimes, I am appreciative that this is on the list. I think Foo Fighters definitely stands out in my mind as one of the best pop rock groups of the last 30 years. Super cool to listen to Dave’s interview on the 25th anniversary. Great tunes: x-static, this is a call, big me Imo, the album’s humble roots are almost the perfect set for a film/bio-pic.

These guys have been carrying the torch of straight up rock music arguably more than any other band (Pearl Jam a bit more grunge, Chili Peppers a bit more... whatever the hell that is). Jack White might be in the most direct competition for that role. I don't love everything they do - but every album has a few great songs. On this one, felt like at least a few songs on here were [Boring As Hell Verse + Pretty Fun Chorus]. Kind of wanted them to turn it up a bit more - Weenie Beenie delivers. Saw these guys play at Wrigley Field many years ago. Grohl has broken his leg and was playing from a wheel chair that was eventually shot into the air on some sort of hydraulic lift. That's pretty damn rock & roll.

It took two listens but I did really enjoy it! The songs sound a lot more unique on the second listen. So far my favorites have been Oh, George and For All the Cows.

Big Me = best

Foo Fighters debut is a solid bit of 90's Alternative. Very reminiscent of Bob Mould's Sugar.

Du bon rock « straight to the point »! Mais je pense plus aimer le back story, ce genre d’album solo « secret », composé et enregistré par Dave pour exorciser ses demons suite à la mort de Kurt. Il a (presque) tout enregistré sur l’album! Très cool.

good debut, but a bit one-note. The mid section of this record gets stale quick. But there's a few favourites that I came away with and that's all the really matters in the end.

Positivt overrasket! Foo Fighters er tidvis litt kjedelig, men nok energi og variasjon her til å rate høyere 👻

I’d forgotten just how good this record is, all the more so when you think he did everything himself so soon after Nirvana came to such sudden, tragic end. Over the years, they’ve morphed into a fairly generic stadium rock band, but this one’s quite a belter.

Foo Fighters debut takes me back to high school, primarily to a core memory of hanging out in a friend’s parents garage swapping out and tightening up some trucks on a skateboard as “This Is A Call” came on the radio. This album isn’t the best material they ever came out with, but one I believe should be checked out. 3.75 / 5

The breakdown for this on Apple Music made me appreciate it better. I've got to read those more frequently. Helps me better get what I'm listening to. Some music isn't just an arrangement of pretty sounds. It should sound nice, but sometimes it's more than that, like when you just lost your best friend.

It helps that my favourite Foo track is track 1 on this album! Have always been a fan of the band.

Well. I always thought of the Foo Fighters as generic rock music. Not bad, but nothing special either. This didn't change with this album, but to be fair, it sounds more fresh than what I imagined.

I like this a lot. The story behind it was interesting too. Dave is a talented mofo, what a life. I really wanted to love the album but wouldn't quite go that far.

It’s good

I quite liked this is a call, this seems a lot like the type of music I am into right now, and foo fighters are goated. But music taste is biased right now to this kind of music so i could relisten in a couple months and not like, first bit of listen was quite exquisite. I really enjoyed it and quality was very well spread through the album.

This album ended up being a sleeper hit for me. I loved Nirvana as a teenager, and initially I had zero interest in anything labeled “post-Nirvana.” Dave Grohl playing drums with Tom Petty on SNL felt like a strange pivot, and I knew classmates who were obsessed with Grohl in a way that almost repelled me—"OMG we painted our nails black! We're going to *throw nail polish on-stage for him*, full-on fixation. It was enough to keep me at arm’s length from Foo Fighters for a while. It wasn’t until The Colour and the Shape landed that something clicked. That album pulled me in, and in doing so, sent me back to this debut with fresh ears. Revisiting it later was the revelation. Dave Grohl in total control, delivering a passionate album to "do his own thing" and not be locked into "the drummer from Nirvana." Now? This record contains some of my all-time favorite Foo Fighters tracks. “X-Static,” “I’ll Stick Around,” “Alone + Easy Target,” “For All the Cows”—these songs still have a hit that feels uniquely of their moment. You can hear Grohl figuring it out in real time: melody first, muscle memory from punk and hardcore underneath, vulnerability sneaking through the distortion. I don’t think Foo Fighters are the greatest band ever—and I don’t think they’re trying to be. But they’ve written some genuinely great songs, across decades, without disappearing up their own mythology. As long as they keep writing, I’ll keep listening

I continue to be in awe that Grohl wrote and recorded all instruments on this album on a week's time. I don't think anyone could have guess how insanely talented the drummer for Nirvana was. It's not their best album, but what a helluva debut.

The best bridge out of grunge to a post grunge type sound and further foo areas. Forgot how raw this album feels with all of Dave Grohl’s emotions distorted on tape.

Great album.

A bit of filler but pretty good. A bit more edgy than most of their stuff

Pretty good rifts - each song feels like its own thing. Didn't listen to much Foo Fighters until now. Can definitely see the Nirvana influence, I mean - Dave Grohl had just left Nirvana. "Left" being used ironically here. "Big Me", "I'll stick around" and "Floaty" are my top tracks. Good start to this chalellenge!

Класний альбом, який має оцю магію DIY релізу, а також показує яке чудове відчуття мелодії вже тоді мав Дейв Грол. Можливо не прям найкращий альбом в їхній дискографії, але точно один з найбільш душевних.

Classic Foo Fighters sound. I may not be the biggest Foo Fighters fan, but the fact that this was written in 6 days is just impressive. It's a good rock album, from the first post-grunge act that hit it big.

After a few listens, I like it. Always been more into Nirvana than Foo Fighters, but do love Dave Grohl. I really like "I'll stick around". I'll add this album to my playlist!!

Good album. Especially as the genesis of what was to come. The vinyl was surprisingly a little flat. The singles are very catchy. This isn’t my go to Foo though.

i liked it! def a classic

There aren't many great drummers who became great singer/songwriters, but Dave Grohl is one. This transition from the back of the stage with Nirvana to front stage with Foo Fighters is an impressive album. Some powerful songs.

I generally don't like Foo Fighters stuff, but I had never listened to this. I enjoyed it quite a bit

TIL I might actually be a Foo Fighters fan. The more you know...

I like the music but not a stand out compared to their other stuff

Some great songs and good overall vibe album

I can't believe this album came out in 1995. I remember hearing that the drummer from Nirvana had a new band and I was only 13 but I don't think I expected much. This album holds up!

Their best album, fuzzy shoegaze harmonies coupled with some driving rock.

Great album but not their best.

Me and my best buddy have an long-ongoing, languorously-laborious argument over whether or not Weezer is a good band. I'm very much of the unshakable opinion that Weezer sucks (and not in the 'Primus Sucks' kind of running-joke way). Weezer's compositions, their performances, Rivers Cuomo's lyricism ("god damn you half-Japaneeese gurRrlsz"): it's all this kind of unpolished, unabashed dorkiness. There's really only one sound they can do on each album. And despite this, I LOVE Weezer. I've seen Weezer live (a quasi-religious experience) and would do again. Because despite that, the music has this fun, almost cheeky scrappiness about it. Their Blue album is a desert-island record for me - it's refreshingly shitty. Foo Fighters isn't as shitty a band - I think Grohl has enough polish and talent in everything he's ever thrown himself into, and this album is almost 100% Dave - but it embodies that same alt-rock sensibility as Weezer. For one, 'Foo Fighters' is an inherently dumb name, even without Christopher Walken's hilarious delivery. Something like self-titled Foo Fighters isn't going to impress the nose-upturned snobs at the gallery, but it's supreme alt-rock that knows what it wants to be an executes perfectly on that vision. It's music to skate to and smoke weed in distressed jeans and flannel shirts, and it's honestly hard to believe it was put together almost entirely by one guy + his mixer. It's shitty (endearing), like your favourite, most sentimental old band shirt from your first big gig. The album is pretty much the same sound from the front to the back - hardly a unique criticism for a post-Nirvana 90's alt-rock album - but I appreciate that it continually executes on that premise. These grungy fried guitar distortion effects, those beat-the-shit-out-of-them drums, those blown-out Grohl-ly vocal deliveries. Everybody was holding their breath to see where the legendary Nirvana alumni would go, and I think it's safe to say the legacy has been carried well by the Foo Fighters. It's all good. Only thing this one is missing is the real stand-out singles you'd get in their later discography. This probably wouldn't be the FF album I'd pick for this list in a world where (this album's follow-up) The Colour and the Shape exists, but I'm optimistically chalking it up to some weird anachronism about how and when the list was written. fav tracks: I'll Stick Around, Oh George, X-Static, Wattershed

Tycker det är tajt och bra rock. Aldrig varit en stort fan av Foo fighters. Lite konstigt val av album dock. De får en skiva på denna lista och det är inte det för blå albumet med My Hero och everlong, vilket är otroligt konstigt.

I haven't kept up with the Foo Fighters over the decades, but I used to play this album all of the time in HS. Dave Grohl definitely has a knack for writing catchy pop rock guitar riffs. As polished as their later records are, something about this one always made it sound like it was recorded in someone's garage, so I remember thinking it wasn't too unlike listening to a demo of a friend's band. I still enjoy this record today, at least occasionally. 4/5

Great debut album, I ignored it at the time as I was still in mourning for Nirvana... I should have listened to it at the time!

Fav song: Big Me Honestly, it's probably my favourite Foo Fighters album. I love how all the influence for every later album is here - and how a few songs (Exhausted in particular) even sound like Sparklehorse. Really enjoyed this one.

4 out of 5. Really good album for what it is. This and Todd Rundgren's Something/Anything? are self-produced albums done right.

Very energetic to be a solo album! He had something to express. I liked it!

So glad that to hear the first album from the foo fighters. It proves that they always kept there own style of music which makes them very recognizable up until this day.

I already have and enjoy this album.

Foo fighters- Foo fighters Off rip upbeat love the style 7/10 heavy drumming guitar is peak vocals sound so clean can hear the bass that’s always a good sign of balance in a band. The lyrics have good meaning genre is alt rock It flows well from song to song I like that we have a lighter song early in the track Big Me is very good Debut album Released in 1995 on July 4th Foo fighters has an interesting backstory Like many bands they’ve hand switches in members Founded by Dave Grohl in 1994 after he left Nirvana Wish it was longer bc it’s such a good album But at the same time it’s the perfect time

I know I've heard stuff from this band, but I don't know that I could pick anything out without help. This Is A Call - 8/10. Really good musicianship. I'll Stick Around - 8/10. Excellent grunge rock. Big Me - 10/10. I didn't know this was the title of this song. Almost perfect grunge tune. No notes. Alone + Easy Target - 8/10. Excellent. Good Grief - 8/10. Also really well done. Floaty - 8/10. Again, just a great song. Weenie Beenie - 6/10. I don't like this one quite as much as the tracks that have come before it. Oh, George - 7/10. Solid. For All The Cows - 8/10. Slick groove, solid musicianship, great tune. X-Static - 7/10. This is really solid grunge rock. Wattershed - 7/10. Harder grunge. Not the strongest tune on the album, but not the weakest, either. Exhausted - 6/10. The mix seems a little off on this track, which is mildly unpleasant. Overall Rating - 3.79/5 (7.58/10). I feel stupid. I didn't realize (or maybe just didn't remember) that this is Dave Grohl's project to get over Kurt Cobain's suicide. Outstanding musicianship, only a couple of places where I didn't care for something in the songs.

I liked it! I wouldn’t say I loved it, but def worth listening to and glad I did!

nice to bob my head along as i continue my job search

Great Rock Album - don't think it's the best Foo Fighters but a solid sound!

This album is exactly what you'd expect from the Foos; poppy alternative rock that usually doesn't require you to think too hard about it. Musically, it sounds like every radio rock band of the era. Lyrically, it's ok, but by no means excellent. It's fairly standard radio rock, but that's not always a problem; I enjoy this kind of rock.

It’s funny, up until now I was only familiar with the Foo Fighters’ greatest hits…none of which are on this album. My dad is a fan of Foo Fighters, but hates Nirvana, which has to be the funniest combo I’ve ever seen. That aside, this album surprised me! It’s not half bad—I was a little worried it would be mediocre. You can sort of see the leap from Nirvana grunge to rock here on the first few tracks. It’s drum-heavy, but that makes perfect sense because it’s Dave Grohl.

Great album I really like this one. One of my favorite foo fighter albums

When you watch the videos, you can't help but marvel at how young they all were. But, man, that sound is so polished and amazing. Foo Fighters are the one truly great thing to come from the tragedy of Kurt Cobain's suicide.

Really good album 👍

This is a great album and I remember fondly the time the singles were on the radio and they were a breath of fresh air for that time. I don't have anything novel or interesting to say about this album and I think it's trite to constantly call things underrated but 'Alone + Easy Target' and 'Good Grief' are incredible songs that weren't on the radio at the time. 'Alone + Easy Target' could almost be a Nirvana song and I don't mean that in a negative way, it would have been awesome to have a separate Albini/In Utero version of it kind of like how New Order had an Ian Curtis/Joy Division 'Ceremony'. Not that it could have happened but I can hear how great it would sound in my head. Good Grief also just defied the era it was coming out in and it did it in the best way. It's just a driving track and I love that kind of stuff.

First foo fighters album, transforming nirvana's front man to a frontman in the band. Nearly all songs in this album are performed and recorded by Dave Grohl. picks: this is a call, big me, i'll stick around, easy target, floaty

Very good use of the sound of the room. Songwriting was intense but thoughtful and the overall tone of the album was very introspective. I know it was written in the wake of Kurt Cobain’s death. So it is special.

Always a good listen. Very lo-fi compared to subsequent releases, and full of some raw energy. Grohl is a great songsmith.

I’m insanely impressed that this is essentially a Dave Grohl solo project. I knew he was talented, but not this talented. The album sounds like a bridge between Nirvana and what becomes the actual Foo Fighters band. I liked everything about this album: the musicianship is great, the lyrics are introspective and interesting, and I’ve always found Dave Grohl’s voice to be soothing. The drums are my favorite part of the album, as I’m percussion-obsessed and have always wanted to be a drummer. I will definitely revisit this album in the future.

Solid 4, pretty damn good

Genre: Alternative Rock Sort of like Dave Grohl’s “McCartney”, except with a lot more trauma (bandmate of his had recently committed suicide), and honestly a bit more impressive. Grohl plays all instruments across 12 tracks that have little sonic connection to the heavy grunge sounds of Nirvana, but contain the same energy and passion as his former project. Some really great songs on here, and some decent licks and riffs. Will revisit for sure. 4/5

Good hard rockin', but I'm baffled as to why none of their later albums are on here. Oh well. I'm not a critic.

The first music festival I ever got to go to at 17 was specifically to see the Foo Fighters. I didn't get to enjoy their show that night as that would become known as the pukkelpop disaster. I nearly died. A year later the Foo Fighters would come back. It was a great show, something of legend in my country. But something had happened by then: I learned that most of the lyrics were actually nonsense. And somehow knowing that made those great rock songs lose their punch. And so we arrive at a "fun but not transcendant" assessment, which in my book translates to this score.

I tend to prefer the early Foo Fighters albums they’re raw, scrappy, and grungy, with less of that commercial sound even though I enjoy their later commercial sound too. I already knew a few tracks from this album but hearing it all together opened my eyes to how solid their debut album was. Grohl here really shows how impactful he was to the ‘90s grunge and rock movement. He was the drummer of one of the most iconic bands in the genre, but this album also shows he’s a complete musician and a class act songwriter for Foo Fighters too. The whole album overall feels like a burst of emotion being let loose, a mainly a response to the wreckage of Nirvana and the loss of Kurt. Some of my favourites are I’ll Stick Around, Weenie Beenie, Oh George, For All the Cows, and Wattershed.

started strong, fizzled out towards the end

Good. Im familiar with this genre, but had never heard this before. You can really hear Nirvanas influence on Dave Grohl in the song compositions. Solid album

I didn't expect it to be so good, I liked I think it's gonna be one of my favourites

Always thought of Foos as kind of like a band that lands 70% for me. Love some of their stuff. This EP is solid.

Really good rock-ish music, not much to say other than I like it.

Came out hot right out of the gate... Probably my favorite Foo Figh

Formative. Dubbed it off my high school heartthrob in grade 10.

Imagine if Foo Fighters stuck with this Dinosaur Jr adjacent sound. Would have been awesome.

Man this one takes me back to the good ole days. Not a care in the world except impressing girls and playing music and this album was one of the soundtracks to that time for me.

Love this one, for sentimental reasons. He did this by himself!

electrifying

It is a great album, although imo not the best of Foo Fighters, it starts off too weak and ends with some absolute bangers

I like the kind of rough cut sound of these, I like that it's short, and I like that so many of them have a pretty catchy hook.

I used to absolutely love Foo Fighters when I was younger, and I still think their first 3 records are their 3 best, this one obviously included. They obviously dont have the same impact today as they did when I was into them. 14 year old me wouldve given this an easy 5, but as much as I still have that nostalgic feeling for this, a chunk of their songs occasionally float by. And I dont know why, it’s just a very Foo Fighter thing for me. That said, this does at times sound like a natural move from the poppier Nirvana songs while still being different enough to put his own stamp on things. Definitely more straightforward rock, but still sounds like theyre enjoying it. No rock ego about it, and I like that. It’s quite raw at times too, unlike their more polished sound of today. I think my Foo Fighters days are well behind me so I probably wont return, but this is still very good.

Knew the singles but definitely haven't heard the album before. Can tell they are finding their feet and I like the slightly more authentic garage rock sound but the songs aren't as strong as colour/shape, except cows maybe. Even here you can hear them bridging the gap between classic rock to something more modern though. Very enjoyable but not flawless.

An all time great. Rising from the aftermath of the untimely end to Nirvana, Dave gives the world this masterpiece.

What a great album! Nearly every song is fantastic.

Nowhere near their best but hints of what the Foo Fighters would become in a few years time. For the reviewers slagging off Dave's vocals on this, he was very much still growing as a singer and a songwriter after stepping out from behind his drum kit. He also played all the instruments himself as he didn't have a band yet.

Classic

This album is like a warm hug from the 90s. Didn't appreciate the harder songs with the screaming though.

Most of this album sounds like Nirvana which sort of surprised me. However the promise of greatness to come is there in tracks like Floaty and Exhausted. Well worth listening for these 2 alone.

I was somewhat surprised by how good this album was on release, I guess I had very low expectations. It's not quite great, but it's certainly very good.

Hats off to Dave Grohl for this album. This was a one man project and it only ups my respect for Dave. Great songwriting, singing and as far as all instruments go, great playing. It's not perfect, but still a magnificent debut. 4/5

good listen

high 4, might edit later to a 5

Återigen ett konstigt val. Debuten är ojämn och trevande, kommande plattor mycket mer helgjutna. Men det är bra! Tungt, ibland hårt, välspelat och mycket (för mycket) varierat. En fyra.

They get better, but a solid debut otherwise. 3.5/5

I already liked this album but weirdly wasn't in the mood for it today. Maybe it was the listen straight through?

Made me want Wendy’s in yellow packaging real bad

good album nice melodys

A strong derivative of Nirvana, but less unhinged and more hinged. strong but not stellar like its predecessor. 3.8

Been a while, still a banger after 30 years. For all the cows is still my fave.

Very good. 4.25

Distinctly Grohl. I’m surprised I didn’t recognise any songs, I must have got into them later.

I love Dave Grohl but I never loved this band. I always thought they were too poppy. Maybe I just didn’t like the singles. After listening again I like Alone+Easy Target, Floaty, Weenie Beenie, Oh George, X-Static and Exhausted. Oh shit! I just realized I misjudged this album and now I have to give it 4 stars. Well done Dave!

I had a big Foo Fighters phase in high school, but haven't listen to them much in the ten~ years since. If I had to pick an album that was my favorite, it might be this one. I love the simplicity of it and it has some really catchy songs. I like This is a Call, Big Me, Good Grief, and I think Floaty is one of the most underrated Foo Fighter songs, that chorus gets stuck in my head all the time. High 4.

*Solid 90s rock album, especially for its time *Tempos were a little bit slow for my taste, but its a great group of songs

Definitely hear the Nirvana in this one. Good album, but not their best yet.

Some really great songs on here. Not quite all the way to a 5, but super close

Better than I remembered. Could probably be happy with it on repeat for awhile

Good energy, good quality. Clearly some of the songs were written with Kurt's death still affecting Dave.

There's only one Foos album on the list and it is their debut? What Grohl did in making this album largely solo is a marvel. But to not have The Colour and The Shape on the list is a big misstep. This album set them on the way and was still excellent but not the 5 that their follow up was.

9/10. love the energetic music feels, definitely something you would hear at the movies when the character starts getting busy doing something.

Really enjoyed this album. It's a bit raw in a good way.

I feel like if I was born in the 80s I’d love this. Some I loved, some too harsh. More please.Grohl…amazing

Kovaa kamaa. Ei silti parasta Foo Fightersia.

Their best album

Even though the Foo Fighters are not one of my generational bands the sound which they created started with this LP. A very good debut LP. I can see why they became so popular with their generation.

Never have been a foo fighter fan. My brothers say I should listen to them with an open mind,so I did. The talent is definitely there. And it was much better then I expected.

Respect to the recording process.

Nostalgic of my childhood. Mentos! Great pretty much all the way through.

classic foo fighter!

Crazy showing from Dave Grohl. Writing and recording all instruments while being a pivotal member of Nirvana.

What a debut!! Dave single handedly created the new post-Nirvana sound and it is amazing. One of the best.

Impressive that it’s just Dave writing and performing everything. He made some hit songs on here. It’s a good rock album, not great. It’s a spark of things to come.

Very enjoyable, nothing stood out but it was a nice mix of rock music

Tufft och hårt, jag är lite av en sucker för aggressiv musik om den har melodier.

Good album

Amazing debut album, especially since Dave Grohl said this was supposed to be a one off experiment, nothing permanent. Well, they stayed around and here we are. 3.63 / 5 stars = 4

Grunge, mas ao mesmo tempo rock de pai divorciado

Classic du rock post grunge, assez varié dans les rythmes et les moods Chanson préférée : Big Me Mentions honorables : For all the cows, Exhausted

It was pretty good, i like foo fighters, but i feel like some of their other albums have more in them

Pretty nice alt rock. low 4/5.

Crazy to think that this was only a year after Kurt's death. He has obviously been developing his ideas and thoughts on the sound for a long time. So many bangers and so confident, fresh out of the gate. Great album.

My brother was visiting from out of town when this one came up. I remember being 14, really into music, and trying to get him, not just into music, but into a band I was lukewarm on. I wanted us to have distinct taste and not just have his taste be a copy of mine. I bought him One By One as a Christmas gift. Decades later, we're listening to the Foo Fighters s/t album, discussing our favorite albums and songs (I'm a casual fan now). Highlights: Most of the album actually. It's very impressive that Dave Grohl did this all on his own. Lowlights: occasionally, songs don't really go anywhere and feel like filler. "For All the Cows" "All Alone + Easy Target" are among these. I'm already fairly familiar with the Foo Fighters discography up to In Your Honor, but this listen has convinced me to revisit FF.

A great debut album by the Foos! Not my favourite of theirs though, but you can’t deny Dave’s talent to be able to record all the instruments, even if he is a cheating little liar 🤷🏻‍♂️

Gorgeous music, vocals on pointz huge grunge influence. Just a work of art. Weird ass lyrics tho, not a perfect album by any means but definitely great.

Considering this was one of the firsts tastes of 00s rock, it should be firmly on this list. Really strong debut from a band entering with extremely talented musicians. The hits are strong, production value is ehhh, and the alt rock is flowing. It drags on a bit near the end, but what doesn’t?

very strong debut

Honestly, I wasn’t a big Foo Fighters fan until I caught them live like 10 years ago. Holy shit, were they great. The energy was insane. Been a fan ever since. Solid album.

30 years later and it all still holds up. 4.5

This is the call

Bunch of good crunchy songs with pop sensability. Not overpowering but smart and fun.

Sounds like the Foo Fighters. Fav tracks were ‘Big Me’ and ‘For All The Cows’. An aggressive sound, but still a lot of warmth in it. Thought this would be a three at first, maybe rating this higher for nostalgia and context, and because I like Dave Grohl. Great band name, great album cover.

The Foo Fighters are exactly what I picture when I think of "rock music." Not necessarily the best at it, not the worst, but a straightforward, paint-by-numbers version of what rock music is. This album still sounds very Foo Fighters-y to me, but with a Nirvana-y hardness that I didn't expect. It's a 3/3.5 for the music, bumped up to a 4 with the context of it serving as a therapy album for Grohl.

Solid. No complaints.

Listened whilst running!

Excellent debut album

First half is perfection, the rest is pretty meh.

Never really listened to them on my own (surprise surprise) but I could get into this, makes me think of driving around in the car with bella

My favorite album is the color in the shape but this is objectively a better album

Dave Grohl why is there Star Wars knock off blaster on the cover? (I didnt know what to say about the album)

Maybe it’s the Seattle in me, but Foo Fighters have always been a guilty pleasure of mine. Yes, they are generic, but they reinvented the word generic. The fact that Dave Grohl played and recorded every instrument on this album makes it that much more special. Although, I probably would have picked a different Foo Fighters album myself. Weenie Beanie is still one of my favorite tracks.

Real 90s nostalgia. Glad to be re-introduced to this one. Docked a star (and a half, tbh) for some of the songs in the middle of the album that did not vibe.

I didn’t expect to rate this so highly, but it was better than I remembered. It's not distinctive or original, but it's a series of tight, well-played, exciting songs.

Idk man it’s got some fun moments. I like how raw it sounds compared to other Foo Fighters records, so that’s a plus. Big me has a fun music video as well so there’s that I guess. I think if I was being critical I’d give it a 3 but I’m biased to the ‘90s.

Favorite: Good Grief I either hate 90s grunge (Alice in chains, soundgarden), or love it (Foo Fighters, Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins). Very enjoyable rock album. 3.5 Stars

Fresh off In Utero and the tragedy of Cobain's death, Grohl serves us a substantial helping of the heavy, meaty alt rock sounds he helped develop in a slightly brighter key. There's fun, there's melancholy, and it's refreshingly trim for a 90s record.

I have never been a Foo Fighters fan but this record shows me that I may have been wrong. It’s nice and noisy like I like it. So it was a nice surprise.

Very solid 1st album. I enjoyed most of the cuts even though some of them seemed sonically similar to Nirvana tunes. But is that a bad thing?

This was a nice little project. Good energy. Kind of interesting to hear some similarities in Grohl's vocals to Cobain's.

Not sure if it’s a criticism or compliment, but for an album I’d never heard, I felt like I recognized a lot of the songs.

Rating: 3.8 I had the greatest hits CD when I was younger so I had only heard Big Me and This is A Call before today. I was pleasantly surprised by how clear-cut and cohesive this album was. Foo Fighters came out of the womb a fully-formed band.

This Is a Call to give this album a listen. I’ll Stick Around if you want to listen again, but I’m Exhausted so don’t take too long to make up your mind. Good Grief.

This is such a strong debut, especially the opening tracks.

I forgot how raw and DIY early Foo Fighters was. It makes sense given when it was made and where Dave Grohl came from. Enjoyable album - the hits are still classics.

Not an album/band I have listened to but enjoyed my listen

Good rocky album.

No es el álbum de foo fighters que más me gusta pero está muy bien. I'll stick around y Weenie Beenie para mi las más destacables

Dave Grohls solo album. The best foo album and closest to punk/grunge while being able to understand the lyrics. Forgot how good it was.

Great songs.

Solid self made album. Catch melodies. Proved himself a major talent right off the bat. So impressed by this. Will need to check out more foo fighters.

I like the weenie beenie harder direction alongside the indie/ballad-y sounding stuff, nice breadth. Never got real into foo fighters, might come back for some of these

I'm a notorious Foo Fighters hater. I was surprised by how much I liked this album. I guess I dislike the pop-rock radio version of this band.

Music for sophisticated white men with latin tattoos or something like that. It's like Coldplay but not on ritalin, very wicked.

Straight money

Im not sure if this is the best to offer for an album but its still pretty solid. 3.5 goin up to a 4 for fan boost.

• 4/5 • No monster single, but several playlist worthy and every track is good • A testament to Cobain’s talent that Grohl was overshadowed in Nirvana, and a testament to Grohl’s talent that he was able to credibly define a post-grunge sound of his ownp

4.5 al grunge mas beatlero

A really good album that I already own, so didn't really need to listen to. There are better FF albums, in my opinion, but that shouldn't take away from what a strong debut this was.

Overall: 8/10 The most impressive thing about this album to me is that it was all written and performed by one guy. Dave Grohl has become a slightly controversial figure lately, and I totally get it, but he truly is an incredibly talented musician. Foo Fighters were actually one of the first bands I remember being my FAVOURITE band so I have a very soft spot for them despite not enjoying their music as much as I used to. They're still fun to me and this album is especially nostalgiac. The second half isn't amazing compared to the first half though. Fav Song: Alone + Easy Target Least Fav Song: Wattershed

83/100. A strong and well-produced introduction to Dave Grohl’s post-Nirvana career. The album carries a raw, gritty energy with dark grunge undertones and punchy alternative rock riffs. It’s impressive how much Grohl achieved solo on this project, handling nearly all instruments and vocals himself. While it may not be as polished as later Foo Fighters releases, its rough charm and strong songwriting make it a compelling and memorable debut.

4/5 great album!! would recommend to anyone who likes rock. favourite song: floaty

Pretty good, with the listening!

Probably their second best album!

This album was a bit too heavy for me but I still dug it. I really liked Dave Grohl’s vocals throughout. Strong album.

Pretty solid album. Seems like hard work was put into each song. Consistent feel throughout but not boring.

One guy, one week and thus begins the second big band of Dave Grohl’s career. Solid pop rock.

Pretty good. Typical 90s alt-rock that makes for good background music.

Some bangers, not as good as their later stuff tho

Great album. 3-4 massive hits. I'm not really into the non hits as much because they tend to get a little metal adjacent, but it's still great. Somehow very heavy, but also not dark.

Sounded a lot more raw and unpolished than their other albums, gave it a gritty feel that I appreciated. There weren't a ton of songs that stood out as amazing but also none that were weak, overall very solid rock album. 8/10

Still sounds great

Amazing & nostalgic! I love how rough around the edges it is.

Hey, it's that band from that movie Studio 666. I liked their 2nd album more. Go have another kid outta wedlock Dave, that'll save your career. For real, I've kept politics out of this except maybe a few jabs. This was a solid debut. Not the best, but got the band where it needed to go. Some catchy hooks and grooves and riffs. Good album overall. I just wish the band could have a much better later discography cause it's not like these early albums.

לדעתי האלבום הכי טוב שלהם שיר מועדף - Oh, George

Smacked with a nostalgia wave. I bought this when it came out from Our Price in Carlisle and it took me right back to being 15 again. The first tracks were burned into my memory and i grinned like an idiot. Ill be honest and say towards the end it did drag and i think it may not be a classic, but it was a lot of fun

Great album that started it all for the Foos. Say what you want about Dave Grohl, but I submit that he’s very talented. He may not be a musical genius, but he knows how to write a catchy song.

Not familiar with old Foo Fighters. Considering Dave Grohl did the whole album on his own is extremely impressive. Easy listening with a few heavier tracks. Will definitely listen to this regularly moving forward. Listened to with my headphones whilst cleaning the kitchen.

Overall, good album. I started it thinking I was going to hear hit after hit, because the first 3 songs were all nearly instantly recognized. It did tail off a bit after that, but I enjoyed all the songs I heard. The most interesting track for me was Alone + Easy Target, simply because that *felt* like a Nirvana song minus Kurt. From the singing style to the instrumentation, it had all the hallmarks of being a Nirvana song that might have been left on the cutting room floor before Kurt's untimely passing.

A great debut from these guys. I say 'guys' but it's really just Dave. Still tinged bit with a bit of the Nirvana sound, before they went to soft (although it does have Big Me on it). Starts strong with tracks like 'This is a call' and 'I'll stick around' still one of their top albums.

Punk rock feel Definitely 90s +3 Weenie Beenie +1 for naming Ps. I'm called a cow

primera vez que escucho foo fighters. tendría que haberlos escuchado antes. sólido

You can really hear that Grohl is coming fresh out of Nirvana here. There are more mellow moments that don’t have the raw power that Something in the way has, but convey a bittersweet feeling. The loud and grungy sounds are really nice on here as well.

Wonder why I never listened to this before..

I’d never listened to an album of theirs in its entirety. This one was a treat from start to finish 👍

Definitely a Food Fighters album. I liked this more than I thought I would. They certainly have a sound. There are some bangers on here, some good ones, and some that I'm not a fan of. Overall a much stronger album than I anticipated. Besides the obvious hits, Weenie Beenie is a fun one for me. I also really like Exhausted. Good 4

I didn't want to hear this, I feel that I've had enough second hand foo fighters for a lifetime and the opener did not help at all with casting off post-nirvana cash grab accusations. I was pleasantly surprised by most of it though. There's a world where Grohl played way more Big Me and For All the Cows type songs and I really wish we got to see that before the descent into xl102.1 arena rock mega-hits. It was Pavement-y and I liked that jangly geetar. Also felt some kyuss/early QOTSA on a song or two in here, another high note. I see now how this side-project turned into his main gig, it's a solid record that's as unfocused and rushed as it probably should be - he didn't know this was gonna blow up like it did, but the songs don't overstay and are pretty catchy. 4/5 that's as high as I can go for any foo fighters record, but this just might be my 2nd favorite one now (behind wasting light, shout out steve)

i have always loved this album and sometimes wish the foos still sounded this raw. can be hard for me to distinguish nostalgia from how good this really is admittedly. 4.5 stars

Great album

Wow, this brought back a lot of memories. I've never loved the Foo Fighters, but I've always liked them - just fun to listen to, solid music.

Crazy this was all Dave Grohl, definitely had some nirvana influences and it really felt like there was a lot of emotion to the songs. Favourites: this is a call, I’ll stick around, good grief, floaty, weenie Beenie and oh George. Overall 7/10.

Solid album, there's not a song I don't like. I do think One By One is a better album all around though and more worthy of inclusion than this one.

The album cover is a gun. That's pretty cool

Excellent debut, self-titled album. It was always going to be tough for Dave Grohl to follow up on his Nirvana success but he didn't seem to have a problem doing so and Foo Fighters is still a household name and selling out stadiums to this day, 30 years later. Solid album from a solid band, led by a great guy.

A fun debate is “which is the greater band: Foo Fighters or Nirvana?” It’s not an overly important debate and you could argue that it’s not necessary and better to just enjoy them both. That said, it’s hard to think of another situation where a member or members of a famous band had such incredible success after the first band ended. New Order comes to mind but I don’t think they have near the popularity of the Foos, certainly not in the States. Anyway, the Foos debut isn’t a perfect record, but it’s definitely a fun one. This Is A Call is a fantastic opener, and Big Me may be my favorite song of Dave’s. Dave may never escape Nirvana’s shadow, but he doesn’t have to.

Enjoyable listen.

Those Foos better watch their backs

Rock on

for my surprise its good

very good debut but lowkey all the songs sound very familiar and found it kinda repetitive at some point but I really enjoyed the rawness of the voice and guitar recordings

First Foot Fighter's album in this list.

For background: I have a complex relationship with the Seattle music scene of the 90s. Grunge remains one of my favourite genres overall, and as the motherland, Seattle and its music scene provided me with a wealth of listening material, inspiration for my own music career, and a relatable atmosphere. Having said that, and as a drummer myself, Dave Grohl doesn't occupy any sort of pedestal on my so-called music shrine. A vagabond, he found himself in Seattle after doing hard time touring the globe with East-coast punk band Scream, and to my ear, this background features prominently in his approach to music. With respect to my own propensities at the kit, I don't rank him amongst the most influential drummers of 90s Seattle. Heck, I don't really like Nirvana, and I don't enjoy Foo Fighters all that much. Onto the album review: On its face, this album broadcasts Dave's slant towards punk. My enjoyment of punk faces a natural limitation because that's the purpose of the genre itself, but deeper inside this material, I can sense the impact that Dave's time with Nirvana manifested in his own creativity. It pops out in different ways track-to-track, whether it's the songs with a more overall acoustic approach, or the punk-flavoured tracks with uncharacteristically-extended riffs. For me, there's enough lurking beneath the surface to make an active listen worthwhile. Based on the background I wrote above, I didn't expect to find any value in listening to this, and I can admit now that this album surprised me. In a vacuum: This is an interesting and somewhat diverse garage-rock album, and it's worth a listen to anyone with an interest in that style. For Grohl fans: This is an interesting and somewhat diverse slice-of-life at a pivotal point in Dave's life and career, and it's worth a listen to anyone with an interest in his transition from Nirvana to what comes next. 3.5/5 -> 4/5, I think it's a must-hear *if* you have historical context for what makes this album important.

Some nirvana influences but generally much happier and hopeful music

Yeah good stuff

Top notch rock, the whole album. 4.5/5

Great album.

I really like this. Catchy songs. Drums are brilliant, obviously. Guitars turned up to 11. Might've been nice to have a little more variety, but sometimes you just want to rock.

Decent general rock music. 8.0/10

Really like the driving sound and the fact that he recorded the album himself. Handmade and authentic and still touring thirty years later.

Took me to a good place. 4/5

As a big Nirvana fan, I’ve tried to get into the Foo Fighters. Obviously they both make different types of rock music but I like Dave Grohl. Something about the Foo Fighters has just never clicked with me so I was surprised to find myself enjoying this album. Although this album is mostly Grohl, it has a raw almost grunginess to it that I find a lot of later Foo Fighters albums lack and that made this a lot more enjoyable!

Not a HUGE Foo Fighters fan, but respect the hell out of them, and just genuinely love Dave Grohl's story. I really enjoyed this and thought it was maybe even almost kinda great. 4.5

I like the foos

A solid rock album that threads the needle between grunge, punk, and metal. It felt like a Dave Grohl solo album, but a fantastic start to what was to come.

hell yeah, its like baby foo fighters, you can hear where "the sound" cam from but it hasnt been polsished yet

Listening to this now just makes me depressed thinking of how far the Foo have drifted from this. I had to listen to Color and the Shape after this just to see, and yeah its good, but it loses some of the fuzz and grunginess that's in this album and you can start to hear hints of the arena rock future of the band. Maybe a new Foo album that is just Dave could sound like this one again? Or perhaps everything he felt at the time and put into this album is gone, so its magic can never be recreated?

I’ve underrated this album. Always loved the shape and the colour, but haven’t listened much to this one previously. No big hits but some really nice riffs and an emotional undercurrent I appreciate. New fave: floaty

I would give it 3-1/2 stars if I could. It's better than most of the other stuff around but yet not as good as most other Foo Fighters records. Regardless, it's an mportant lo-fi predecessor to what was to come from Dave Grohl

Very formidable album, definitely going to listen to this one again. Better than I expected. I also didn't know the Foo Fighters backstory, so that was cool.

Very nice. knew some songs but don't know enough of their catalogue.

A solid mid 90s american rock album with a lot of bangers and beauty. David Grohl's musicianship has to be commended(he wrote and recorded the whole album by himself, played the guitars and drums all by himself). It's said to have started the post grunge era , which is basically grunge but less abrasive and more melodious. This Is A Call, I'll Stick Around, Alone + Easy Target, Good Grief were all great rocking bangers. The tracks Floaty, Oh George and X- Static(ah those descending haunting chords) had a shoegazy vibe. The emotional intensity of these songs becomes even more powerful when heard in the context of David Grohl's depressive phase after Cobain's suicide and making this album was a cathartic therapy for him. Although lyrically, I have no idea what any of it actually means I love the songs that end by fading towards the end. Exhausted was a perfect closer for a near perfect album.

The production was goofy but thay added to the charm imo

Very listenable.

Great debut album

Solid album that is exactly what it needs to be and does it extremely well.

I loved this - I faintly remember some of these songs from when I was a child but I am glad to have listened to the album in its entirety. Standout tracks: - This Is a Call (4/5) - Weenie Beenie (4/5) - For All the Cows (4/5) - Exhausted (4/5)

Foo Fighters have a special place in my heart, even though this might be the album I’ve listened to the least. Still, there’s something about Grohl’s singing voice and drumming that really hits my tastebuds in a good way. The fact that he did it all by himself doesn’t diminish the significance of the album.

Totally get why this record is on this list and it 100 percent belongs given the history of nirvana and on the heels of Cobains suicide. This is raw, and I always thought it was so cool that Groel played every instrument. The guy gets music, he loves metal and writes really catchy songs. Using my best Borat impersonation, “I like!”

Completely bonkers that he just did this himself. I wonder if he would have gotten up the courage to start sharing these songs with Kurt if he had not died. They kind of sound like Nirvana songs, but don't 'feel' like Nirvana songs. It's hard to get past the first 4 brilliant tracks and hear the rest of the album as inferior because they are just that good. The rest of the album doesn't quite meet those tracks, but is still a fun listen. I think shaving a couple of tracks off might have helped--there are a couple that sound similar to other songs on the album.

Good vibes, Solid 8/10, not my taste for repeated listening tho

Good grief, Good Grief is amazing Oh, George = banger

Wow, they really haven’t changed even remotely since their first album. While I still like Dave better as a drummer overall, his iconic voice is always a delight to listen to. 2 songs in and I’m starting to realize this is one of those albums where I’ve heard a lot of these songs before but can’t name any of them off the top of my head. "I’ll Stick Around" and "Alone + Easy Target" are an absolute bop. Peculiar that this is the album they chose for the Foo Fighters, but I’m not complaining. This is a STRONG first album to get. Absolutely screams 90’s. Get used to seeing a lot of Grunge adjacent albums at the top of my list.

pretty cool, so many bangers

Gelungenes Debüt Album, in der Zeit nach Cobain. Rockig, fresch und fetzig. Tolle Songs in diesen Grunge Ableger sind "This is a call“, "I'll stick around“ & "Big Me". Gutes Rockwerk.

Transitional album with lots of Nirvana influences.

This is #day220 of my #1001albumsyoumusthearbeforeyoudie challenge, and... Foo Fighters will always be Dave Grohl's band. This album makes sense as a way of dealing with grief, and it holds significance as one that helped shape the post-grunge era. The Colour and the Shape, huh? But still... Foo Fighters will always be Dave Grohl's band. "Big Me" is a standout, of course. I have a favorite record in the band's back catalog, though—arguably their best one: Wasting Light (released April 12th, 2011), featuring the incredible "I Should Have Known" with Krist Novoselic on bass. But that’s a story for another day. Wait, this appears to be the only Foo record on the list, so… end of the story. Alright, the moment "Exhausted" started playing, I got goosebumps. I've known this song for a while, like 10-15 years, I guess, but I always thought it was a B-side. Placing it as the album closer? Chef’s kiss. It’s one of Foo’s greatest songs and my all-time favorite. I was initially going to rate this a 3, but hearing "Exhausted" floored me. This is a 4 out of 5. Looking forward to #day221.

Average album that deserves a 3 in a vacuum, but Grohl did the entire thing by himself in 6 days so I'm adding a star for that.

Amazing guitar and drums on this get this album up to a 4 star for me. Enjoyed the softer rock songs like "I'll Stick Around" and "Big Me." Did not like the more scremo songs like "Weenie Beenie." Overall, enjoyed it but not one I will seek out again probably. Would be 3.5 stars if that was an option.

I forgot what I wanted to say so I give this an A

guter alter grungerock. ich wusste nicht, das alles als one-man-show begann.

War mir nicht bewusst, dass Foo Fighters ein Einmannbetrieb war und von Nirvana stammt. Aber man hört es gut und gefällt.

Good album. I’ve always liked the Foo Fighters.
