Reviews (page 5 of 13)

Dave Grohl started Fighting Foo like a boss on this album all by himself

Great one

Hell of a debut. 4.5 stars

starke 3 bis schwache 4

A mix of grunge, alternative, hard rock. Good album, i'll give a four, but its a 3.5 closer

Really liked it more than expected. A little like Shoegaze?

Cooles Album, ein bisschen wie Nirvana manchmal

This album rocked.

Great alternative rock album. Might be Grohl’s best.

I had never heard this the whole way through. Pretty rocking. Obviously sounds like Nirvana at parts but still its own thing.

Big nostalgia trip. I was 14 when this came out and it sounds EXACTLY like 1995 to me. I don't think I ever owned this album, and I lost track of the Foo Fighters after The Color and the Shape, but I knew most of these songs. I have not heard them in 25 years and I probably won't hear them again for another 25, but this album just rips. It's great. Great job guys.

just a great rock album. has more variety to the moods and lyrics than later foo releases

Great album, I came to be a fan of them many years after they hit it big so I'm glad I've got a discography of there so that I still need to get through

Banger

this album bridges what was left of the grunge movement after the death of nirvana guitarist/vocalist kurt cobain and the modern rock movement of today. while i have never really been a dave grohl fan (i think he is a massive attention whore), it’s hard to ignore how important this album was at the time. highlights: “this is a call” “big me” “for all the cows”

Patrick loves it

Great album!

Justice for half stars!

Never heard this before and pleased that I liked it so much, it’s cool that Dave Grohl did this all himself. The exuberance behind it is very Dewey Finn but I’m not mad at it.

I can see this album probably only makes this list on the fact it's the drummer from Nirvana and ended up being the debut of one of the biggest rock bands out today, but that shouldn't take away from the fact that it's actually a great rock record performed entirely by Grohl with the lone exception of some extra guitars on X-Static. A lot of people probably talking ill of this record are too young to remember a time before the Foos were just some generic arena rock band, but there was a time when they were putting out music that was exciting and it's probably this to One By One (man, was that a killer 4 album run). I'd give this album a full 5 stars, but it only gets 4 because the follow up is probably one of the greatest alternative rock albums of all time.

What a great album to pull on a friday. This was fun rocking out to before the weekend!

I've never been a huge fan of Foo Fighters outside of their hits that I saw the music videos for on Much Music. Considering the recent Dave Grohl events I don't see myself becoming a fan or supporting them. This album is good though, especially when you consider Grohl did it almost completely on his own...kinda wild.

I don’t get the people who say this is generic, like if you’re gonna levy that against some of Foo Fighter’s biggest songs, yeah I get that 100% but this album is interesting! The songs sound different from one another, there’s one where Grohl is screaming, the opening track has a power pop-y chorus. it feels like it takes in a bunch of different genres and puts it into one emotional and excellent package.

A true banger, such a great early alternative metal classic

never actually listened to this one, but it rips tbh. the first couple songs i was a little indifferent to but once it hits good grief it settled in for me.

Very good debut from what was to become a great band. Didn't realize that Dave Grohl did this entirely by himself, writing everything and playing all instruments. That makes it even more impressive. Generally follow the FFs formula of songs that start softly before taking off and rocking hard. Big Me is the standout. You can tell he loved the Beatles and other 60s music.

That rocked, the drums were up front.

I think the most notable thing about this album is that it's 100% Dave Grohl. It really shows what a great musician he is - regardless of what you feel about the music, there weren't a lot of rock stars at that time that could have written and produced an entire album on top of playing all the instruments and singing. I remember when this album came out, or shortly after anyway since I was still pretty little, hearing the songs on the radio and having no clue that this was the drummer for Nirvana. I don't think that was really a secret but at least the kids my age never put two and two together. I think the music still holds up pretty well. One of the criticisms of Foo Fighters in general is that they are a little 'generic alternative' sounding. I think that's fair, but it doesn't make it bad. I like this music. I saw the Foo Fighters live a few years ago during the Dave Grohl-broken-foot-guitar-throne era, and it was one of the most fun shows I've been too. I was very happy to have seen Taylor Hawkins perform before he died. And they were fantastic performers, Grohl especially. Personally, I really enjoy this album and I think the fact that it was literally a solo project that evolved into one of the most popular bands of the era goes to show what a great musician Dave Grohl really is. 4/5

Pleasantly surprised. A bit more too it than just pub rock. Reminded me of Sebadoh in places.

Surprisingly charming in parts, maybe reflecting the one man nature of this album, and the circumstances in which he made it.

love it

A good listen. Before they became the big deal they are today. A fun listen.

4 out 5, I didn’t remember the foo fighters like this, a great album with ups and downs

Learning about the origin and history of music is so important to contextualizing the sounds. I did not know that Foo Fighters was Dave Grohl—Nirvana drummer—creating music for catharsis after Kurt Cobain had ended his life. I didn't know Nirvana only had a 13-year run. That framing gives the alt-rock sound a bittersweet and personable undertone. Gritty sound that is honestly hard to dislike.

Older stuff is more raw than their biggest hits, which I think is a bit more interesting to me

The comparison with Nirvana is obvious. Liked it a lot.

Classic 90s grunge rock sound. Most popular songs up first, with a few hidden gems etc. as the album goes on.

The best Foo Fighters

Very nice. Thanks for reminder.

Very good

This sounds like a Nirvana album. It’s a Grohl album. Dave on vocals, sounding a lot like Kurt. Dave on bass, sounding a lot like Krist. Dave on drums, sounding just like Dave. These are good songs. Great production. This is a Nirvana album made by a single member of Nirvana. And it stands up alongside Bleach, Nevermind, & In Utero. It’s post-grunge pop-punk, and it’s a pristine example at that. You can hear The Beatles in here, as well. (Could hear it with Kurt as well, but it bears mentioning.) Apparently, Grohl wrote and recorded demos for all of these songs while or before a member of Nirvana. It’s obviously why it fits in that canon so seamlessly. Anyway, I dig it. It accesses and triggers regions of my brain connected to a critical period circa high school.

Foo Fighters - Self Titled I’m a HUGE Foos fan and have been since I bought an album of theirs when I was 13. I think I remember this album a little better than it actually is but that being said, it’s still a really solid one.

It’s fun listening to their first album and how much Dave Grohl already has that Foo Fighters signature sound the first time around. You can definitely hear Kurt’s influence on this

Dave Grohl solo really, and it's a pretty impressive effort to play all the parts. Lots of quality songs, really strong opening tracks.

Strong album. Clearly hear the foo fighters signature that goes through later work. Mix of songs between harder rock and grunge style to more slow like all the cows.

Some great songs (I'll Stick Around) and some annoying ones (Good Grief), but overall a 90s pop grunge guilty pleasure

First FF album, you can feel the raw energy and composition but it's still good. The guitar sound is very garage/distorted

I've listened to this album before. Great album with some classics. Has the classic Foo Fighters sound that just hits. But I imagine everyone else mentions this, why put this album on the list and not The Colour and the Shape? Everlong alone puts that album above any other Foos album. Really feels like a "We know Foo Fighters belongs on the list, but don't know them well enough to pick an album, so we'll pick the debut" pick. Which is insane to me because Foo Fighters seems like an inescapable band.

Foo Fighters debut album. Wasn't sure if I knew these songs from the titles but right into "This Is a Call" which I always liked. Then "I'll Stick Around" another good one. Fun to hear the very mid 90s influence in this early stuff. "Big Me", Ok I didn't realize I knew all these tracks hah. Then several I didn't know. Getting a little metal/punk with "Weenie Beenie" - not my fave. Couple other heavy ones, some more melodic. Really enjoyed this. Crazy to think it came out only a year after Kurt died. Calling it 3.8/5

First of all the fact that this album is all written and recorded by Dave makes this that much better. Not many people can make this good of an album by themselves. There’s not a ton I really want to say about it, I like Dave’s voice and the power he sings with. Instrumentally, the album is solid through and through. It’s the start of the Foo Fighters sound that they’ve continuously delivered on for decades now. I’m giving this album a 4, it is rock solid from start to finish, a very enjoyable listen, and cool to see the start of foo fighters, knowing how they’ve evolved from here through the years. Dave is kind of a piece of shit for constantly cheating on his wife for years but damn he is so talented.

Foo Fighters first album is a classic

I remember hearing this in 1995 and it didn't grab me at first but their second and third efforts became favourites. And eventually I came back to the debut and enjoyed it more. It's quite rough around the edges, where the Foos quickly became a lot more polished, but that's not entirely a bad thing. The layers of polish have reached such exorbitant levels by this point in time that I've taken no enjoyment from anything they've made in about 20 years now. There are some absolutely brilliant moments here but too many forgettable ones to really consider it for anything higher than a 4.

It’s the Foo Fighters, for the most part. You know if you’ll like it or not. Some thrasher cuts on here are pretty dope too though.

Very pleasantly surprised by this album. Coming into it, I expected a very heavy alternative experience, but the shoegaze-y elements along side with some of those driving heavy alt songs made for a pretty good album. Even though some songs fell short, still give it a 4 star

In the context of this list I'm a little tempted to give this one 3 stars because the songwriting isn't amazing beyond a few songs. But with the context - coming out a year after Kurt died/In Utero, Dave doing everything on it, and a lot of the sound working to define the next decade of alternative music, makes it a landmark release. And the sound and feel of everything is so so good.

Killer tunes, raw production. Fave track - Exhausted

I LOVE THE FOOFIGHTERS!!!!!!! But seriously this is a good album :3 Exhausted was my favourite song !!!!!

Type shit

I like this

I guess that long review I wrote a while back was actually all bullshit. This album isn’t groundbreaking or genre defining, but I liked the songs

Great album - I remember buying it when it came out this album was Dave ‘s therapy after Kurt’s suicide - Dave now playing guitar and singing ❤️ This is a call greaaat opener

They really did fight those foos

Enjoyable

Classic and amazing release after losing Cobain.

The debut from Foo fighters was great

Nostalgia bomb off this one. Haven't much time for them at all any more, but there are some bangers off this and their second outing.

I've never listened to early Foo Fighters and I didn't realize how much some of their stuff sounds like Nirvana. Some songs literally sound like Nirvana songs. This makes sense but I always thought after Nirvana, Dave Grohl changed the sound quite a bit. I really enjoyed this and I think I enjoy it more than the Foo Fighters songs that I know and grew up listening to on the radio. I'm a fan of the 1 guy does it all DIY rawness to this album.

This was fun. Interesting that this was on the list. Its definitely a solid record, but the sophomore record is no doubt one of the best albums of all time. I guess this one is really foundational for alt-rock. Or is just foundational for the Foo Fighters? I guess Dave Grohl literally recorded all the instruments for this record, so is it even a band? IDK. It was good. I enjoyed it. And if you were born in the 90s, you have to enjoy or at the very least tolerate the Foo Fighters until the day you day. Because they're great. Musically, I had a lot of fun with this one. Its fun hearing the foundations of grunge, and alt rock but also fun to hear how hardcore heavily influenced Dave. Those were probably my favorite tracks. A lot of songs are pretty similar but I still enjoyed it. Solid 4.

An old favourite. Top tracks - alone + easy target, exhausted, good grief.

Dave is just the talentedest

Wel leuk, ik vind de laatste muziek wel beter geloof ik, 7.5/10

It's very sweet and earnest. I've heard a few other Foo records and this is certainly of the quality I would expect of them, though I do wish the production was a bit more airy and less squished down to shit. Nonetheless, deeply enjoyable stuff. Rating: 3.5 (closer to 4 stars)

Great album. One of the greatest debut albums of all time. Loved every track. Even the duds were good. Great work Dave Grohl

I've never heard this album before despite some Foo Fighters songs being some of my favourites. I think I'd only heard "Big Me" from this one. Really love hearing all the Nirvana DNA in these songs.

Pretty cool album. I didn’t realize the foo fighters originally sounded like this. It makes me curious about the rest of their discography, although I doubt most of those albums will be anywhere near as good as this. Favorite song: Exhausted Least Favorite Song: For All the Cows

Good grief, Foo Fighters is a kick butt debut from Foo Fighters. Always thought Kurt was the songwriter and mastermind of Nirvana, not so sure anymore. Dave put together an epic album here! Great driving beats, guitar, and variety, all songs are good except Weenie Beenie (an annoying skipper) with Big Me at the top of the list. Will listen to this one again (4.3*s)

Waow such 90s

Yay! A great start to an even better run of work.

Amazing that Dave was able to pick up the pieces and record this gem all by himself. Excellent.

One year later. New job. New city. New kitten. Same me. Like Dave I've had to reinvent myself a little recently. Maybe I too will get cancelled in my 50s. Who knows. This album is the reason I came back, and I'd do it again. Better than I remember. Rougher, heavier, chunkier than new Foos. Solid album. Cheers lads.

A solid album that just about manages to find a way out of Nirvana’s shadow. 3.75/5

I’d kind of forgotten that I like the Foo Fighters. This was a lovely reminder.

Banger

Funsies

had a good time with this. this album is quite rough, but i can cut it some slack given its very short production time (5 days, with allegedly 45 minutes being spent on each track) and the fact that dave grohl did most of it entirely by himself. it's rough, a bit samey and formulaic, but it's no less electric for that, and it means a lot that at the time it was considered so good that it got picked up by labelheads despite it not even being intended as a commercial release, sold like hot pancakes and ended up influencing much of the genre that it represented.

A pretty solid rock album. Some absolute bangers on this

I enjoy the Foo’s. This has a bit different sound - more raw than their later work and not very imaginative for the time. But considering that this was strictly Dave playing all the instruments at the age of 26 - it is really pretty damn impressive.

Proto post grunge jams.

There are some good songs on here and it's impressive that Dave Grohl essentially did this entire album by itself. That being said, the album The Colour and the Shape is superior in every way, so I would choose that one before this. But this is good for what it is.

Grohl playing the drums on this really gives it a life I don't hear on their other stuff. I like Foo Fighters songs, I think this one has some of the most consistent writing on it. He just went and did his thing and it really shows.

Really strong opening album from the Foo Fighters. A good variety of sounds and a few good bangers.

I'm not much of a foo fighters fan... find them to be too formulaic. However, their earlier stuff is significantly better. Every song on this album has an individual sound to it, and it was a great listen.

Fantastic riffs, sweaty and smelly. Chef's kiss. Best Song: Good Grief Worst song: X-Static

Classic alternative. First 4 songs are fantastic. There are a few songs that are just ok, but considering this was Dave Grohl just beginning to stretch his wings, a pretty good effort.

Great album, not my favorite album by them but solid nonetheless.

Ladies and gentlemen… foo FIGHTERS

Solid 4. Could be a 5 by removing the last two songs and a middle one. Impressive what one drummer can do without any band mates.

I love this album front to back but will check my bias.

I like Dave Grohl. It's really impressive he does every instrument here. He's got some great well written tunes here, "Big Me" is super catchy though I have no clue what he's talking about. Or talking about talking about. Some other standout tracks too I really enjoy. Just misses on the 5 star mark for me but I had a good time listening

Great album. A classic 4 stars

enjoyable 90s rockar, pleased to listen

I forgot how fun this album was! I remember when Foo Fighters first came out and how fresh it felt, especially discovering it on MTV back in the day. The album really did feel like a breath of fresh air at the time. Listening to it again, you can definitely hear echoes of Nirvana’s sound, almost like a natural continuation of where they left off. It’s also interesting to compare this album to their newer stuff, you can see just how far Foo Fighters have come. And let’s not forget the slightly sobering realization that the band has been around for nearly 30 years now… which, honestly, makes me feel kind of old!

Kickoff for the Foo. With hindsight you can hear how this album lead to all the other Foo albums. Reminders of Nirvana with a sound headed to the future. Dave definitely living the rock & roll life.

This is the first time I've ever listened to the Foo Fighters though I've known of them. I could get on board with this, I enjoyed it. I'm probably closer to a 3.5 but I'll round up to 4.

I love fighting Foo and this album is the start. It's raw simple and yet unique. It starts with some hits and moves into some lesser known songs that still rock like Floaty and Weenie Beenie.

The album starts off strong with hits: This is a Call, I'll stick Around, Big Me. And after one listen the rest of the album was just kind of okay. But this album is totally worth a second and even a third listen. Also reading the lyrics to the songs really helped me appreciate the poetry. If you are expecting catchy rock songs, this isn't their best album but some gems for me were: Good Grief (yes!), Floaty (the lyrics are like zen poetry), For All the Cows (dig the swingy vibe), Wattershed (this song just fucking rawks!). I love that I was reading the lyrics to Wattershed on genius.com. They try to break the songs down into chorus and verse but this song is so fucking whack that it's got a verse, chorus, "hook", AND a "pre-chorus". lol. Exhausted. If I had a song called Exhausted, I would probably put it last. I mean, where else would you? Pretty cool song. Drums are awesome too on this whole album. And wikipedia says Dave Grohl recorded the whole thing by himself. damn. Sometimes you just have to grab your career by the Weenie Beenie and do it your damn self. Good job Dave!

Love me some Dave Grohl and the Foo Fiighters. Just a cool, grungy rock and roll album with some great hits on it. Fave song I didn’t know well was Floaty.

A classic

I remember what a surprise and a big deal this was at the time. I mean it's difficult to understate how much Nirvana changed music - 'alternative' music, rock music, music in general. And then Kurt Cobain committed suicide and then the drummer made a solo record???!! But musically it makes a lot of sense: it's got the same energy and pop sensibility as Nirvana on Nevermind but a bit more commercial and powerpoppy and without any of Cobain's contrariness (and some funny video's instead. That was this one, right? With the Mentos parody?). No wonder it was a big success. And still sounds pretty good these days. Have no interest in current Foo Fighters but this was nice to hear again. Oh and more people should know about the band's weird Aids denialism advocacy in the late nineties. They like to pretend that never happend but that was some awkward shit and they never really apologized.

Unidentified Flying Bangers

Nice to get something I'm already familiar with. I knew several of the songs already, by virtue of being a millennial who watched a lot of MuchMusic growing up. Foo Fighters aren't my favourite from this era, but the singles are great.

I always thought of Foo Fighters as Nirvana-Lite, but I now realize they're their own version of Lite beer.

So, being a huge Nirvana fan, I bought this debut when it was released, liked it a lot at the time, then I lost the CD when I didn't care that much for Dave Grohl's band anymore (except for "Everlong", one of the ten best songs *of all time*, found on sophomore album *The Colour And The Shape*). Then, some time later, I bought a Foo Fighters "Greatest Hits" compilation, and I never felt the urge to buy the band's debut again. There's certainly something endearing to the latter's partially lo-fi sound, probably stemming from the fact that Grohl recorded all the instruments himself. But like all the later (and cleaner-sounding) LPs, that first album is mostly worth its singles, i. e. the first three tracks opening the proceedings (plus "Alone And Easy Target", along with the mesmerizing, shoegazy closer "Exhausted"). Apart from that, "essential", really? The answer to that question is still as hard to find as a box containing alien DNA in an area 51 warehouse... It's a good album, don't get me wrong. But there's nothing in it that hasn't been done at least equally well by quite a few bands of a similar style. And you can't cram them all, can you? 3.5/5 for the purposes of this list of essential albums, rounded up to 4. 8.5/10 for more general purposes (5 + 3.5) Number of albums left to review: 52 Number of albums from the list I find relevant enough to be mandatory listens: 408 Albums from the list I *might* include in mine later on: 238 (including this one) Albums from the list I won't include in mine: 303

Грязный, мощный панк-рок. Пришлось прослушать 5 раз, чтобы полюбить. Даже после распада Нирваны ее музыканты дают крутую музыку

Love this album, David Grohl is a beast doing this himself, carrying Rock and Roll into the next century

Great album that I'm very familiar with. It came out the year I graduated 8th grade.

Not the best of their albums

Considering Nirvana is one of my all time faves I've never been a Foo Fighters fan. Even though Dave Grohl always seemed like the soundest guy in rock, it seems these days that's all an image that he projects and with the latest adultery and secret child, it seems apparent that all isn't as it seems. Anyway, back to the music. I've considered foo fighters to be dad rock for a while. However, I enjoyed this album more than I did in 95 when I first heard it. It sounds fresher and naive like a lot of good 90s music. There is some influences from other bands of the time. It doesn't sound as formulaic as more recent hits. 7/10

Lots of decent stuff, can tell they are trying to find their feet as a band! Nothing horrible, happily 4 stars, maybe 3.75 really.

It was hard to divorce what I know of the Foos from my listening experience. It’s not as good as what came later, but on its own isn’t a bad album.

Second half of the album got better. Kinda cool you can tell this is early, raw Foo Fighters

rough, a bit repetitive, but pretty cool

The Foo Fighters, or more specifically Dave Grohl, have been in the news quite a bit over the last few days. Maybe not for the right reasons though. I will not let the marital affairs of the band leader affect how I review this album though. I have respect for this band. To the dismay of many. I think what Dave has managed to do is impressive in and of itself. But when put in context with what was going on personally for him, it makes it even more interesting. This debut record, which was actually recorded entirely by Dave himself, was a bounce back in many ways. Loss is never easy, and to spend years recording and touring with someone only to lose them to mental health is devastating. He doesn’t spend the entire length of this record speaking about Kurt. As far as I know, none of these songs were written about him. But there is definitely an energy present here. I feel like we were witnessing a man secretly vent out all of his frustrations and built up emotions. And doing so in the only way he knew how. Now I personally believe Dave to be a genuinely talented songwriter. I had no doubts that the drumming would be amazing, because this is Dave Grohl we are talking about. So many amazing fills all over this that just make me giddy. But everything else going on is still worthwhile. It comes in hard, and from front to back, is dominated by double tracked guitars that are distorted and blown out to shit. It’s easily the most raw and aggressive record the band has ever released, even delving into shoegaze territory at some points. I think this group often gets a bad wrap. And to a degree, I think it’s justifiable. By nature, they make music that falls more on the basic side. It isn’t meant to challenge anyone or alter the way someone looks at music. But it fulfills a very specific desire for a sound that many people have. It’s why the band remains so popular. And I’ll admit that I too have a soft spot for something like this. Now of course, I’ve heard much more sophisticated albums that completely blow this out of the water. But that doesn’t mean I can’t appreciate what’s here. Rating: 7/10

78 Big love, great debut, solid 8/10

It's a powerhouse of raw energy and infectious riffs. It's like a sonic punch to the gut that leaves you wanting more. Dave Grohl's drumming is a force of nature, and his vocals are full of passion and grit. The whole band is firing on all cylinders, delivering tracks that are both heavy and melodic.

Starts off strong and while the middle sounds same-y there’s no bad songs. Finishes well too

Good debut album with some good variety. The album didn’t pick up for me until the middle, not a boy fan of This Is a Call. Couldn’t really dig into the album like I expected to. Standouts: Alone + Easy Target, Good Grief, Floaty, For All the Cows, and Exhausted.

Melhores Músicas: Alone + Easy Target, Good Grief, Floaty, Weenie Beenie, Wattershed. Piores Músicas: N/A 4/5

It's a really solid debut album with a sprinkling of really great tunes in there. The opening trio of This is a Call, I'll Stick Around and Big Me is just great. There's proper riffs and melodies in here, and good variation. I quite like the grungy, raw production, as it adds to the overall vibe. It's pretty accomplished overall.

Pretty cool he wrote and recorded pretty much every part of that album

Before I get started into this album, I'll admit up front that I do not like the Foo Fighters. It's not that I specifically _dislike_ them, I just don't understand the broader appeal that they have garnered for what I find to be pretty bland music. That said, Dave Grohl seems like a genuinely great guy and I'm happy for his success. This album is their first and doesn't contain any songs that stand out immediately to me -- this could be a good thing. Also, this is a true solo project, which is always impressive. First thing I notice is the tinniness of the mix. Feels like a garage recording with the amount of compression. Despite the production quality, This Is a Call is a fine opener. Good energy and well written song. Tbh I didn't know I'll Stick Around was a Foo Fighters song -- I really like it. Some solid grunge-pop (if that's a thing). Reminds me a bit of The Vines album that we listened to on here. Good Grief is a jam too more in line with the grunge tradition. Weenie Beenie is surprisingly angsty and stands apart from the rest. Incoherent vocals fed through layers of distortion and a guitar riff to match. I was less focused in the back half, but enjoyed what I was hearing. This definitely is not the same Foo Fighters from which my earlier opinions were derived. While I'm not a fan of the overly compressed production on some of the songs, I understand the grunge appeal and it does work in a lot of places to give this a campy atmosphere. I enjoyed the range at work here -- alt rock to be sure, but with grunge over(and under)tones. Some songs lean into the punky aggression and others giving a glimpse at the alt-pop-rock mega-group that the Foo Fighters came to define themselves as on their follow-up album. More to like here than not -- this is a solid 4 imo.

Ah the debut Foo. This Is a Call is such a jam. Great opener. Also love that Grohl plays every instrument on this entire album. Big Me is also a jam. They played Weenie Beenie at 9:30 Club a few years ago and it was scary. This album has great heavy and soft moments. For All The Cows fux. Oof in classic rockstar fashion just read Dave Grohl cheated on his wife and is having a baby with another woman. I'm not angry I'm just disappointed :(

Excellent, especially considering its Dave's 1st album and he played all the instruments on it (except on one song). 3 Hits and I found one I never heard before "Weenie Beenie" which i though was quit good.

Great album, super tempo

This was a great intro album for a band, and considering it only consisted of 1 person doing everything it's pretty damned amazing.

4/5. The OG Foo Fighters album all written and recorded by Dave Grohl. As a successor to Nirvana, this first Foo Fighters album achieves just that. There are grunge elements, there are definitely Nirvana riffs, lyrical patterns, and song structures incorporated into this album. Overall, a fun listen.

Softer

I’m a Dave Grohl fan, but not really a foo fighters fan. I love what he does for music. This album is better than the hits and worth the listen.

Not bad.

Who would have thought that the drummer from Nirvana had this in him?

80% Fav: This Is a Call, I'll Stick Around, Big Me, Alone+Easy Target Must-Hear? Sure

Was thinking I would rate this lower but re-listening for the first time in a long time gives me some good vibes. In retrospect, might be the most enjoyable complete Foo Fighter's album for me. Maybe because the non hits are just straight forward fuzzed out rock vs some of the filler songs that don't do it for me on their later albums.

Y'know, I'm mostly just curious why **this** is the only Foo Fighters album on this list. Like, let me clear: this isn't a bad album. It still rocks, and hat's all I expect from them, ever. Long as they have the tunes, I can hardly complain. And of course, they are here, and the fact that Dave played it all by himself is impressive. I can tell why this was big. Me, though—I'unno. I just figure it's not the best of Foo. Like I know System Of A Down's debut shouldn't've been their only album on the list. Good grief, I'm not even the biggest fan of either band, or even that up in arms about it, but just knowing about their discographies all my life... But here we are, so... I'unno. It's just curious to me, that's all. Still, for their breakout, I can't give it less than a 4. In times like these, I don't figure it's anything **that** special, but honestly, it doesn't owe me anything. For what it gives, yeah, I'll stick around.

While not being the groups' finest record, this is still some pretty decent 90s rock. 3.5 bumped to 4.

Lidt mindre poleret lg lidt studie jam vibe

4.5 stars really. The generator loves me.

I really like the Foo Fighters. They aren't necessarily original or breaking any new ground. But they write catchy songs and hooks that reel you in. It's pretty formulaic, but they do it masterfully.

I can remember growing up in the 90s and wondering, which of my bands were going to stand the test of time and who we would be talking about later years. Nirvana and Radiohead are no surprise to me, but I’ve always been a little curious as to how the Foo Fighters stuck around. Listening to this album helped remind me this was a good band out of the gate and I think they deserve the acclaim. Not quite sure I understand why they take on the ridicule that they do as well, but as far as rock ‘n’ roll goes, it’s hard to beat.

Mola mucho

4.3/5 listened 4x while building office TV furniture and the next day as well + a few live concerts from 1995 on YouTube

Rarely do you get to witness someone else's cathartic journey in such a public way. Impressive and rocking in equal parts, setting the tone for everything that he has put out after.

"Floaty" makes me think of DIO's guitar work. Cool. I did NOT expect Weenie Beenie. This is the first time I'm hearing FFs self-titled album and I don't know why it's taken me this long.

Liked it quite a bit

For what is basically a throw away or just unserious record at first ,, it really does keep up on its own . Very high quality throughout and some may say it sounds like some basic rock or post grunge but it does this very well. Though i am confused why this is the foo fighters record on this list . Maybe more are to come but this was a very welcome listen.

I've been listening to the Foo Fighters since I was young, so I found that this album being selected was appropriate for the project. It has a lo-fi, punk quality with fast and loud distorted guitar riffing interpolated with soft yet still energetic sections. Nirvana's influence is clear. Overall, this a strong first release from the Foo Fighters. Favorite song: I'll Stick Around

Favourite Song: For All the Cows

Post-Grunge era hard rock done garage band style. It’s either for you or it’s not. For me it’s a good listen for contrast to their later stuff which is better IMO. I would not call it Beatle-esque as one reviewer described it.

cool album. Has a range of song types

Perfectly nice grunge pop.

Not my favourite album by Foo Fighters but it was great.

4 stars, pretty cool

I will never complain about a Foo Fighters album being on this list. I will complain this is the album that gets put on the list. Foo Fighters self-titled record is basically Dave Grohl playing around and creating an album of demos he did. It's not a "band" album and it is not the Foo Fighters best album. I recognize this book leans towards putting the first album by an artist recognition as a "must hear," yet Foo Fighters were not reinventing the wheel and they deserve recognition, but this is not the album that best represents why they should be recognized. That's a lot of words to say, love them, but this isn't the album for this book. It's hard to beat the first 5 songs on this album though. It's a great start to the album and it does fall off a bit on the second half of the album, though X-Static and For the Cows are great songs. I would recommend someone listen to this album but would probably recommend the Colour and the Shape or Wasting Light first. Dave Grohl is not the greatest lyricist but he has a strong sense of melody and his performance has always set him apart.

I’m a huge Foo Fighters fan, so loved this album. It isn’t their best, but is a lovely throwback to their earlier years

Very Fine Foo album, there’s some Nirvana Sound over some of the Tracks , and in my opinion Dave G’s vokal seems stronger and better at their recent albums compared to this one, and this is not the best album from Foo, but all in all still a great album

Love Dave Grohl. Good guy, good first album.

I'm not a big fan of the newer Foo Fighters but this older album was actually pretty decent

Hard rocking. Driving drums and guitar. Distinct & fun Foo Fighters sound. I’ve always loved “Big Me”. The music video is one of the funniest I’ve seen. Low 4

this actually goes hard. still think foo fighters is a cringe band, but this is a good album

Yes Dave Grohl. Foo Fighters have a great sound. 1995 guitar drums vocals. It works so well.

Excellent. These songs rock hard but there’s a major emphasis on hooks and melodies. Great range of tones and styles too. There’s some hard rock, some grunge, some songs that tip into metal and some softer songs. All around great playing and strong songwriting.

Around 600 albums in and this is the first Foo Fighters on the list. I'm certain there will be more. I love these early records by the band. There is such a fun energy in them- driven by Dave Grohl writing and performing every single thing heard on this album (I think except for the guitar part on "X-Static"). He captured this rough and loose sort of quasi garage band sound somehow. How, actually? I don't really know even though I'm a big nerd for music production. It's a super cool blend of professional level rock but and also this rawness element, like a young singer in front of a mic saying "I'm not so confident, can you add some effects to my voice?" (which really happened!). This has been called the start of the end of grunge. I can see that based on the timeline of the big grunge bands: 1994: Nirvana stops releasing music at the death of Kurt Cobain. 1995 (July): this album is released 1995 (November): Alice in Chains release their self titled (not debut) album, and don't release another album with Layne Staley. 1996 (May): Soundgarden release "Down on the Upside", and break up the following year 1996 and beyond: STP continue to release bangers, including "Tiny Music...", "No. 4", "Shangri-La Dee Da", but at this point their sound has become less grungey and they have become a more straightforward alternative rock band. Foo still plays some of these songs live which is great. I've heard "I'll Stick Around" and "Big Me" a handful of times. Solid album. Raw Foo Fighters is fun Foo Fighters, and it's very easy for me to listen to this album and hear the beginnings of a band/sound that are going to become something really big. It's a 4.4 for me. Not quite high enough to round up to a 5 but that's because of the existence of "The Colour And The Shape".

Stronger than a 3, not completely certain it's a 4, but I'll bump it up considering Dave Grohl recorded the entire album himself

Just a classic start to finish

Dave Grohl's debut album after Nirvana.

Favourite song - Weenie beenie

Probably the second best Foo Fighters record.

This is by far not the best Foos album. It's just Grohl having a good time on his own. But it definetly feels like a one man band.

Call myself a fan? I'd actually never heard this before. And didn't know Dave had done this first Foos album all on his own. It's all there already, isn't it? Those characteristic chord progressions and harmonies. I own a few of the later albums, and imo these songs would fit right in. I read about it first - apparently, a cathartic, hastily-recorded effort after Kurt's death, and I was prepared for it to be pretty bad (I thought it might all be like Weenie Beenie, which wasn't my thing.) But no. Most of it's great! I love Dave. He's a creative, rocking force of nature, and apparently a really nice guy. One of those that makes you think - what else could he possibly be doing? He was put on earth to do rock music. Foos songs are never boring, even when I don't especially like them. I really, really liked most of these.

Not my favorite Foo Fighters record, but still damn fine.

It was all right

I'm not a huge Foo Fighters fan. I do like the first two albums though. And I think the fact that this was just Dave alone adds something to it. This album loses steam some in the second half, but remains solid and never craters. It's probably not great enough for a five, but it's a really easy 4.

Great debut. Solid.

Dave Grohl's solo bolo. I knew half of these songs already, the singles hold up and I enjoyed the melodic stadium punk that makes up the back half of the album.

Still had hits on the debut album. Granted our boy Dave rode some of the success he found in Nirvana but his solo contributions to music should not go unnoticed.

I enjoyed this album a bit growing up, but there's just no way I'd pick this over Colour and the Shape. The production is undercooked, the vocals aren't great (granted, they're still moments on CatS where they are patchy but they're better produced). I'm not a huge Foos fan but I don't buy into the idea that they're this generic commercial product of music, I think they just found a sound that lands in enough areas to be commercially succesful.

i liked that the vocals were quiet and the guitar really led

I'm due to see the Foo Fighters in about ... 48 hours? You know, I hadn't appreciated that Dave did all of this album himself. He managed to get himself from there to here in the most Grohl way possible. By just being a totally boss dude. I've seen some of the other reviews "meh meh, they're so vanilla, boring rock blah blah blah". I kind of get it ... but get on board and have some fun, yeah? This was rawer than I remember, I think it's great.

I never really got into FF over its run, but not out of a lack of respect. Having been an 80's alt/indie kid, by the time Nirvana was done, I was retreating back into the underground, and FF just kind of got left behind. Listening to this, I hear soooooo much of it all - Husker Du to Nirvana to even power pop Big Star, and even some midwest-emo (much of which was still to come). It was very fun to listen to this again and hear everything that David Grohl loves being skillfully and respectfully turned into truly David Grohl music. This one will be revisited with a certain amount of regularity going forward.

This is a Call 4 I'll Stick Around 3.8 Big Me 4.2 Alone + Easy Target 3.7 Good Grief 3.5 Floaty 3.5 Weenie Beenie 3.3 Oh, George 3.6 For All the Cows 3.8 X-Static 3.4 Wattershed 3.5 Exhausted 3.6 Score: 3.658333333

Great album that transitioned the grunge into post grunt alternative rock sound. Proto foo fighters, so you can hear the bare bones of their sound that would become one of the biggest acts of all time.

Never listened to this Foo Fighters album before and really enjoyed it. Highlights for me were 'Big Me' and 'For All the Cows'.

I remember I saw them at a festival about a month after this came out. Nobody heard it yet. All we knew was, it was that guy from Nirvana's new band. Some songs even sound like Nirvana, but not as depressed. Other songs sound heavier or more like the Beatles. I think Dave Grohl is a better songwriter than Kurt Cobain, but his voice doesn't have the same emotional depth. Favorite song: Weenie Beenie

Bussin bussin frfr

There are no bad songs on this album and so really, by my own rules, I should give it 5 stars. But I'm deducting a star because it makes me feel so middle of the road for liking it.

Probably not their best album, but a really great start by Grohl back into the music scene. Some great songs on this first album.

Look I love the Foo’s but I don’t understand why this is the album they chose to put on this list. It’s really solid (especially compared to a lot of the terrible tunes we’ve had to listen to) but they’ve got some other better, more complete and mature albums out there. Overall though it’s still a very solid album. The guitar riffs are great, the drums fill out the songs and drive them nicely, and the lyrics sound very cathartic. Cool to see where a band that became as big as the Foo’s started out at.

out of all the Foo albums available, why do they only have 1 on this list & why is it their weakest album??? doesn't make sense. it does give you a glimpse of what their sound will develop into & is still a solid album. 4.5 stars

Maybe this project is making me a convert to the 90's, because this is one of several 90's albums recently that I've really enjoyed. The songs were fun and felt relatable.

Overall enjoyed it! The Foo Fighters definitely has better albums, but at least I wasn't bored or didn't want to skip any of the songs. Dave Grohl did quite well on this.

I’ve never been a big fan of Foo Fighters but big respect to Dave for doing this just a year after his band mate killed himself. A solid 4 stars. I never knew that this first album was a solo thing and the band came after. BUT This list is fucking ridiculous at times, how is the second album not on here? As I say, not a huge fan but colour/shape has much better songs on it than this album. 3 Pet Shop Boys albums, 1 Foo Fighers… I think this list might be a big biased.

Favourite tracks: this is a call; I'll stick around; big me; x static; alone and easy target

This reminds me of that time I met Dave Grohl. It was around 1996. I was probably 17, going to my first concert in Seattle. White Zombie with Tad opening. My buddy and I were in the crowd when we heard someone saying "that's Dave Grohl over there." We went to check it out and there was Dave, surrounded by fans. We stepped up. I sort of reached forward to shake his hand, second guessed myself and pulled my hand back, making it look like I was doing an awkward T-Rex impression with one hand. Already flustered I say "Dave Grohl! You're such a..." mind blanks, what do I say? "... stallion." Fuck, why did I just call him that? Instant regret. Especially when he gives me the biggest What The Fuck Did You Just Say? look and says, "I'm a .... stallion?" and in a funny voice with his hands now held up like a T-Rex, he says, "I'm a stallion." Growing up in the Seattle area in the early 90s, Nirvana were Gods. I had just been mocked by a God. I can't think of many times I've been more mortified. Anyway, love the album. Dave's a stallion for making it!

Some good, some bad, but on balance pretty decent and easy enough to listen to.

I remember buying and being surprised by how good the whole album is. I literally only knew Big Me. Incredible debut and even more incredible knowing that Dave Grohl played everything. Kinda reminds me of early Soul Asylum.

Not the best of their albums

this was really yummy. Some of the songs kinda ran together but the beautiful ones were beautiful. you can definitely hear dave bringing nirvana into this album

it was enjoyable. 4 stars out of 5

Solid. Good instrumentation and to the point.

I think Dave Grohl is one of the most fascinating musicians alive today. I'm a big fan of his, and of the Foos. Considering he wrote and recorded this whole album by himself at the tender age of 25 after having already been in one of the biggest bands in the world is beyond impressive. The fact that this album was also good is amazing. I do think the Foos have better material, but this album is a snapshot of a pivotal point in music history, and even if you're ignorant of why that's the case it's a great listen

I listened to a lot of grunge when I was younger and that led me to heavier music like thrash and death metal. I don't often listen to alt rock any more, it all comes across as being palatable to the most amount of people it can (capitalism baby). I think what I like about the Foo Fighters is that this music sits right in the middle of my and my father's music taste. We don't agree on a lot, but when I visit him some sort of Foo Fighters radio playlist is what we're listening to. He genuinely loves it and I am not bored to tears by it. I suppose I'm rambling at this point, but this generic-ass rock band did bring a father and son closer together, and I appreciate that. Seldom though they are, there are enough hardcore punk influences on this album that it's a good listen.

Good but not as good as other foo albums, they are still finding their stride here

I didn't know Dave wrote this whole album alone, I did know it had something to do with Dave processing the grief from Kurt's unfortunate early departure. Weenie beanie, love this one.

I was never a Nirvana fan - always felt they were a bit derivative and cliched to my old ears. As a consequence I never really listened to Foo Fighters. While this is essentially a solo Dave Grohl record, it comes across pretty well - I think the drums are really driving the songs forward. So after the first play, I'll be playing it a couple more times - but so far it's pretty good. May investigate other Foo Fighters albums. After a couple more plays, I prefer this to Nirvana.

foo FIGHTERS

foo FIGHTERS

Fun listen and lays the foundation for what they would release down the line.

4 really enjoyable, definitely my favourite album from the foo fighters (and maybe the last i'd really call grunge) faves: x-static, floaty, this is a call

Listened to this a few times now. Really enjoyed it, Dave Grohl is very good at what he does. Didn’t blow my mind but will happily keep listening to this

first album by Dave Grohl after Kurt Cobain's death. Super impressed he played all the instruments and sang all the songs that he personally wrote.

Hard to click with most foo fighters stuff but this had a lot of surprisingly good tunes on jr

Honnêtement, pour un gars tout seul, ça déchire grave

4 - I don't love some of the Foo Fighters hits I've heard, and Everlong was never good enough that I felt I needed to seek out more of their stuff. But there's a Nirvana song called Marigold that I really, really like. I was surprised to find out later that that song is only Grohl. And this album is only him. And I was like, "Oh, maybe I'll actually like this Foo Fighters album". And, of course, I do! The string of hits at the beginning isn't my favourite, but I quite liked the deeper cuts here. Exhausted is a great closer. I'm not sure if I should even listen to another album from Foo Fighters, because I fear it won't be much like this. If nothing else, I'm just glad this one exists.

Een vette jonge experimentele fok fighters. Favo songs Big Me en Floaty

Fingernails are pretty Fingernails are good It seems all they ever needed was a marking I've always wondered what the heck this song was written about. Some folks say it's about absolutely nothing. Profound or meaningless ...the mark of a true Lyricist and musician is shaping it into something that fits within a song. Amazing to think one man made this record and performed each instrument. Not the best Foo album...but significant he did it all himself for the most part. Still has songs I don't get tired of listening to, and an edgy sound that only the best drummer on the planet can shape.

There’s a sense of urgency to this album, like Dave was frantic to get out the lyrics and music trapped inside of him. The passion is palpable. Revisiting this album was worth every rough around the edges second. Impressive one man debut. Dave Grohl reminded everyone that you can be a badass rocker while being a most excellent human.

decent

I probably have heard this album before, or at least most of the songs at one time or another, but never really sat down with the intention of actually listening to it. Good album that's probably worth listening to some more. A little bit too much distortion on that last track.

You know, I always listened to this band when I was little - really little, before I was in kindergarten. I went to one of their shows in 2021, too. They were really the band that got me into music. And I think that might be largely due to just how fun it is. It’s not the most unique, but it’s fast and memorable. That being said, this isn’t as good as some of their other work, so it’s a 4.

Great Foo Fighters album

Vrij matig eigenlijk. 4/5. Paar goeie nummers

I am an enormous Foo Fighters fan, and was very excited to finally be served up this debut album during my 1,001 Albums experience. While I don't consider this the best FF album to date, it's a brilliant album that triggered a new era of "post-grunge pop" and Dave Grohl wrote and recorded this entire thing by himself. All instruments. Brilliance. The varied musical styles throughout the self-titled range from loud and brash to quiet and melodic. A nice preview to what the full band version of the Foos would evolve into. Foo Fighters the album absolutely deserves a spot in the upper-level pantheon of my album ratings here. Interesting Factoids from Wikipedia: *Former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl wrote the entire album. He recorded it himself in six days with the assistance of producer Barrett Jones at Robert Lang Studios in Seattle, Washington, in 1994. Grohl said that he recorded the album just for fun, describing it as a cathartic experience to recover from the suicide of Nirvana bandmate Kurt Cobain. The album is considered to have started the post-grunge genre. * Although Grohl played all the instruments on the album, he intended to release it under a name that would make people believe it to be the work of a full band, similar to Stewart Copeland's 1980 EP "Klark Kent". *In an attempt to keep his anonymity, Grohl planned to release the songs under the name Foo Fighters, a name he took from a ufo-logy book he was reading at the time, Above Top Secret, that in a chapter described the "foo fighter" phenomena. *During the sessions, Grohl was invited by Tom Petty to perform with The Heartbreakers on Saturday Night Live one month later. The performance was followed by an invitation to be a full-time member of the Heartbreakers, but once Petty heard about the Foo Fighters, he instead encouraged Grohl to move on with this solo project. *Nine of the songs in the album were composed before or during Grohl's tenure with Nirvana, and existed in demos created by Grohl on his home 8-track tape recorder. The only compositions done after Cobain's death were "This Is a Call", "I'll Stick Around", "X-Static" and "Wattershed". *Most of the lyrics on Foo Fighters are nonsensical lines written by Grohl in the 20 minutes before recording began. As Grohl later explained, "I had seven days to record fifteen songs. I was just concentrating on everything being as together as possible, having everything be tight and in sync. There wasn't too much time spent sitting in a chair thinking." Grohl would add that the gibberish was deliberate, given that "there was too much to say" following Cobain's death and "a lot of emphasis [was] placed on the meaning of the first Foo Fighters album." *...The album cover done by Grohl's then-wife, photographer Jennifer Youngblood, featuring a Buck Rogers XZ-38 Disintegrator Pistol. Some reviewers considered the gun on the cover as insensitive, given Kurt Cobain died by shooting himself, but Grohl dutifully disregarded it as just a coincidence. (Original live Foo Fighters drummer William) Goldsmith later explained, "It was all pretty much based on the whole Foo Fighters thing—Roswell, the space stuff, an antique Buck Rogers raygun. It's really a completely separate thing. Dave wasn't even conscious of that." *(On the song 'Alone + Easy Target'): Dave Grohl wrote and recorded the song in its original form in 1991. Grohl played the demo of the song for Nirvana band-mate Kurt Cobain in a break between touring for the album Nevermind. According to Grohl, "I'd told him I was recording and he said, 'Oh, I wanna hear it, bring it by.' He was sitting in the bathtub with a Walkman on, listening to the song, and when the tape ended, he took the headphones off and kissed me and said, 'Oh, finally, now I don't have to be the only songwriter in the band!' I said, 'No, no, no, I think we're doing just fine with your songs.'" Nirvana would jam the song on soundchecks during the Europe 1991 tour. *"The first Foo Fighters record was not meant to be an album, it was an experiment and for fun. I was just fucking around. Some of the lyrics weren't even real words." —Dave Grohl in 2011 Standout Tracks: This Is a Call, I'll Stick Around, Big Me, Alone + Easy Target, Good Grief, Floaty, For All the Cows

Good album. Liked the first 3 songs the most.

Never a dull moment, but certainly some skips. Some of it was a lot better than other parts and this definitely isn't their best album

Still crazy to me that Dave Grohl played all the instruments on here. I prefer The Colour And The Shape, but this is a good album. Favorite songs are This Is A Call, Big Me, Floaty, and Weenie Beenie.

te amo dave

So very good. 4 stars.

Nice to hear the older stuff. Love the history of this band too.

Not my favorite Foo Fighters album, but it still rocks. The energy is infectious. This is an album that sat in my cd player in my car for a long time, but when I took it out I never intentionally put it in over other albums again. Solid though. 3.6

A really good and fun album all the way through. It's hard to choose a personal fave, it's probably I'll Stick Around but I could pick about 4 other songs too. Wild to think that Dave Grohl recorded this all by himself. I'm feeling a strong 4 for this project.

better than i was expecting, very low 7/10

7/10 not terrible but not great

fire thank you so much foo fighters however i still prefer the colour and the shape solely because of the bonus title track that was just straight screaming. but i loved this still

excellent album.

Excellent album and great jumping off point for the band. Amazing that Dave Grohl basically played all of the instruments.

Foo Fighters rock

A rock-solid debut album from grunge/alternative giant Foo Fighters. In many ways, it’s easy to trace the Nirvana pedigree with frontman Dave Grohl’s style and songwriting, but the Foo Fighters are any but derivative in their instrumentation, genre-sweeping style, and musicality. Lyrics and melodies are easy to comprehend and stick in the brain, without compromising on the heavy-hitting distortion so prominent throughout the record. I was pleasantly surprised too at the variation of guitar work, from expected-but-awesome overdriven tones to clean, melodic jingles and acoustic intros. Dave Grohl makes it clear that he was born from Nirvana, but is growing into his own, arguably better force. Stand out tracks include “This Is A Call”, “Big Me”, “Good Grief”, “Floaty”, “For All The Cows”, “X-Static”, and “Exhausted”.

The album shows Dave's roots growing up in the punk scene. It's raw. Favorite Track: Floaty

Ashamed I didn't know the origins of FF. Grohl is obviuosly very talented to self produce in 6 days but a few songs are too grungey for me, a few good rock/riffs in there. 4

Haven’t heard some of these songs since the album came out. Still good.

Good album 👁️👄👁️ 👉👈

Great album. Not my favourite Foos album but its great. It is amazing considering Dave recorded it in a couple of days and played all instruments.

The album that kicked it all off. Some great stuff here, but Color and the Shape is Dave masterpiece.

Solid album with some great tracks. Seems to have been largely forgotten in their catalog with Color and the Shape dominating the conversation around early Foo Fighters. There’s a lot to enjoy with Grohl reaching out to pop, grunge, and his punk roots on the record.

i really like the songs

So cool that this was the first post-Nirvana album that he wrote/reordered entirely alone. First 3 songs are bangers....never heard most if not all of the rest of the album. Solid

I forgot how great this album is. I know a lot about this album, being a Dave Grohl, and also Nirvana fan. This album is a strong debut album from "the least expected member from Nirvana." I'm happy that Grohl harnessed his talent and took a leap to make this record. It was a risk to even disassociate his name from the project. At the time, no one knew this was Dave Grohl. A self titled album called the Foo Fighters. And needless to say, it left its mark and trajected Dave Grohl and the Foo Fighter to what it is today. This album is written entirely by Dave, and every instrument is played by him as well. I remember when the song White Limo came out front Foo Fighters' album Wasting Light, and a lot of people didn't like it because it was too heavy. I specifically remember people saying "this isn't Foo Fighters" - well obviously those people have not heard the song Weenie Beenie on this album. Because it's definitely in the same vain as White Limo. And it's just as great. There is maybe 1 or 2 songs that reminded me of Nirvana but for the most part, despite it still sounding like a 90s record, it is a strong departure from Nirvana. This record foreshadow just how great Dave and the Foo Fighters will become. I recommend this to any grunge/post grunge rock lover out there. 4 Foos out of 5 fighters.

Состарилось не очень хорошо, не понимаю, почему добавили в список его. Но за динамичность четыре звезды.

already listened too, very good

Great stuff. Not amazing but great

Great album! I do prefer music with stronger vocals but this was decent

Hard not to love them

Very pleasantly surprised by this. I know Foo Fighters a little bit, and had written them off as semi-decent arena rock. Maybe subsequent records have that sound, but this was like great 90s alt rock, it honestly gave me Sugar vibes, Copper Blue in particular. I also gave FF crap because I think Dave Grohl is one of the greatest drummers of all time, but to be fair, he’s a terrific frontman also. So be nicer, me!

- David Eric Grohl found his spark again after the tragedy that took his friend and his band out from under him in the blink of an eye. Beginning with four of the best songs he’s written to this day, Foo Fighters is the sound of that spark. One which would blossom into a decades-long fireworks display. The self titled Foo Fighters tape is interesting in that it’s completely unique given the circumstances but simultaneously lays the ground work for Grohl and (his future) company to accomplish almost everything they eventually would. From the walls of percussive guitar to the stadium ready hooks, it’s remarkable to think this isn’t the full lineup of musicians Dave would soon fill the project out with. With a more DIY sound and production, some tracks almost take on a shade of shoegaze, if they aren’t just sort of messy. His riff and melody writing, too, would soon take an overall step up. However, much of this album is Dave’s songs already at their best and charged up with power pop charm and punk rock energy. 7.5/10

Pedazo de disco y pedazo de banda.

Not bad at all! I’ve never been a Foo Fighters fan, but this is a solid album for sure.

Il y a quelque chose de frais et de juste assumé dans la joie du rock qui m'a bien plu.

I remember the anticipation of this album well. After Kurt Cobain died, the fact that Dave Grohl put together this album by himself in relatively short order seemed like such a blessing. It ended up being a much more light-hearted album than I was imagining as a Nirvana fan. However, the album was great then, and it remains great today. Each song is good in it's own way, and there's a lot of variation in the album 4/5

Dave Grohl. Now there's a talented chap. All his own work don't you know.

Who knew that it would take just a short 30 years to get over the fact that this album didn't sound like Nirvana.

Not my favorite of theirs, but still a big fan.

This band really were better when it was just solo Grohl-o

Great album. Still holds up today.

Foo fighters- Good rock album. Didn’t know any of the songs other than I’ll Stick Around and Big Me. Big me is great. Good Grief and Floaty were cool. Cool sense of melody and songwriting and I like his voice 3.5 rounded up for grungey rock nostalgia

I think it’s cool. No song pops out though. Don’t need to listen again.

It’s not my favorite Foo Fighters album, but I still enjoy listening to a lot of the songs and Grohl makes a solid one man band. The ghost of Cobain looms large here. As far as lyrics, Grohl has admitted a lot of his are nonsense and it really feels that way on this record especially. Also it kinda trails off in the second half. I’d probably like it less if it weren’t for nostalgia.

Classic. Love the Foos

Probably the best Foo Fighters album. Good Grief and Floaty are the sleeper hits, but the back half is better than the front half of the album.

Very good First Album from the Foo Fighters

Foo fighters were foo fighting

this is a call i'll stick around big me good grief floaty for all the cows exhausted

Very nice 3.6

Bangers I never heard before!

An absolute powerhouse of a debut album by the Foo Fighters, that has now become a classic. Who knew that Dave Grohl could do more than just drumming? And by the sounds of it, there needed to be something else he did after the death of friend and fellow bandmate Kurt Cobain. The Foo Fighters have gone and become a mainstay of that melodic rock/post grunge sound that has stood the test of time for an album that was mostly written in about 20 minutes before recording. Best: This Is a Call Worst: Oh George
