Reviews (page 7 of 12)
Pretty alright. Bordering stomp clap and that 2010's sound which is not great
muy zzz por ahora, no es mi tipo de musica, espero mejore. no gusto
I like some Arcade Fire but this one didn't really grab me. "Intervention" "Windowsill" and "No Cars Go" were good but the rest just mostly missed me.
Funeral, their debut album is far superior IMHO but this is alright.
Never gave Arcade Fire a fair listen during my youth because it always seemed like pretentious hipster stuff. Now that I am older with an open mind I can say yes it is very hipster, but not in an entirely bad way. It sounds very much like the indie music of the mid 2000's with lots of claps and chants. The stand out tracks to me would be "Black Mirror", "No Car Go", and "My Body is a Cage", the latter encapsulating exactly how I felt as an isolated queer teen afraid of this world. Decent album thats worth the listen .
Very nice offering from Arcade Fire. The album flows nicely and is quite mellow overall. 7/10 Stand out tracks: Ocean of Noise, Anti-christ Television Blues, No Cars Go
It's okay, it has some brilliant songs like No cars go but the majority of it is filler. Nowhere near as good as their debut.
To be honest, I might have heard some of this at the time and it still would have passed me by. It feels like the sort of stuff that has probably been used as snippets in adverts for mid-range family cars or package holidays. Nothing wrong with it, good production values, but essentially Teflon for me.
Highlights: Keep The Car Running, Black Wave / Bad Vibrations, No Cars Go and My Body Is A Cage. 3.8
I love "No Cars Go," but can't say I'm a huge fan of the rest of the album. Definitely a unique sound, but most of the songs just aren't doing it for me.
This one is tough for me. Arcade Fire was played a lot when I was younger. But why does Win Butler have to suck so bad? 3.5
Droning
I think I’ve only heard Arctic Monkeys mixed in with pop radio. For whatever reason I associated them with a brighter, happier tone. This is sadder album that maintains its momentum through sheer force of will, and some driving beats. The composition is solid and it left me wanting to know more about the band. I’ll have to give this one a few relistens. Keep The Car Running Intervention No Cars Go
There were some good tracks and a few that were not as good. Solid, middle of the road, 3 stars
Fine, but not exciting. I was disappointed by the lyrics.
7/10
Second Arcade Fire album already! Prefer this one to the first, great first 5 songs (best is Intervention, like a good organ) but it drops off a bit at Ocean of Noise. Not as good after that U C, that song was much too obvious. Still solid though
Arcade Fire’s music is exciting, but melodramatic to the point that every song sounds like it’s the album’s finale. I enjoy it in small doses, but I don’t need 11 finales.
Not my style
This was a fine album. I wasn't captivated by it in 2007 and I'm not captivated by it now. I know it's very well-reviewed, but its just average in my opinion.
Its fine, a bit dull
Cool
I'm familiar with Arcade Fire and I already have 13 songs "liked" by them on Spotify. But 8 of the liked songs are from their first album called Funeral and only 1 from this one ("No Cars Go"). I remember being excited to get this album when it came out because I liked the first one so much - but I was underwhelmed with this at the time. So I will see if it grabs me this time. "Black Mirror" is better than I remember. "Keep the Car Running" somehow reminds me of Eddie and the Cruisers "On the Dark Side". I still don't like this one. "Intervention" sounds almost too much like going to an old church. I'm glad I relistened to this one because of this project - since I ended up liking 5 more songs -> "Black Mirror", "Ocean of Noise", "(Antichrist Television Blues)", "Windowsill", "My Body Is a Cage". I can't help thinking that this is still a drop off from their first album - it's ok but not as good overall. Liked songs on Spotify: 6/11 Rating: 3/5
Cool vibe
Nix besonderes aber schön anzuhören. Für das Erscheinungsjahr auf jeden Fall angenehmer als befürchtet.
Didn't surprise me much. It's not bad, but kinda boring for my taste. This record is a strong indie alternative music example, I can easily imagine it everywhere from 2010th teen movie soundtrack to car radio. It feels nostalgic and hopeful, but that's it.
Really enjoyed this one, not heard a lot of it previously apart from No Cars Go. First half of the album is really strong, middle isn't as strong but picks back up after a few songs. Black Mirror, Keep the Car Running, Intervention and My Body Is a Cage are all really good. A strong 3.5/5
(unfiltered thoughts post-1re écoute) en écoutant ça je me sentais comme Brittany Broski qui essayait du kombucha pour la première fois, i.e. je savais vraiment pas quoi en penser. immédiatement j’ai pensé à Pornography de The Cure (la chanson, pas l’album) so j’étais genre okAYYYY SLAY. sauf que j’ai pas vraiment aimé les deuxième et troisième tounes. and then the organ started on the fourth and you know my goth ass cannot resist a lil organ action. then i loved the 2nd part of 'Black Wave / Bad Vibrations' but didn’t really gaf about much of the other songs. basically it’s a mixed bag for me et je suis pas sûre de réécouter dans le futur. 'My Body is a Cage' fait partie de ma rotation depuis plus d’une décennie tho so shoutout to that one. (post-2e écoute) j’aime la voix de Butler The Abuser mais pas tant celle de Chassagne, 2nd part of ‘Black Wave / Bad Vibrations' is truly awesome stuff (si seulement je pouvais l'ajouter à ma librairie sans la première partie), ‘Ocean of Noise’ et ‘Windowsill’ grew on me, ‘My Body is a Cage’ reste ma préférée, pis overall i'm not gonna lie the instrumentation (j'ai dû googler pour savoir si c'était un vrai mot) est souvent sublime. mais j’arrive quand même pas à embarquer. j’ai pas le vocabulaire musical pour élaborer mais ça sonne très « rock des années 2010 » à mes oreilles. le fait que deux de mes David préférés (Bowie et Byrne) creamed their pants listening to this band fait juste renforcer mon feeling que le rock avait pas grand-chose d’intéressant à proposer – to me, at least – dans ce temps-là. ça ou bien my musical palette est vraiment pas assez raffinée which is probably more the case, mais bon whatever [fart noise]. #certifiedyapper #sorrythisissofuckingterriblywritten #j'abuseaveclefranglais #pisleshashtags
It was alright, the AF albums I've heard are enjoyable in the moment but don't give me a major lasting impression
still pretty good, but so many of the songs have been so overplayed, it is hard to hear them with fresh ears and not fatigue
The pinnacle of the hipster mountain.
I'm a Canadian Who doesn't care for Arcade Fire. I am just not that pretentious. Neon Bible was okay, but I don't get the hype. This is pretty standard indie rock. In fact, it's a tad boring.
I won’t be relistening because i fucking hate win butler but man i used to fucking love this band
Durchschnitt. Immerhin mal wieder etwas, was nicht sofort abgebrochen wird.
I had certain expectations from this album, specifically because of the title, but those expectations were pushed aside after I heard the first few songs. Neon Bible is a great indie rock album filled with unique songs and an amazing closing track. 3.9/5
Not too familiar with Arcade Fire, this album was ok. 2.5 star
One of the tags for this is "baroque rock" which I love, and it being recorded in a church adds to the initial draw. I think it opens very strongly, but falters in the back half where it veers into stomp-clap-hey territory (second half is loaded with listen-onces, personally). Use of organs, strings, and other untraditional rock instruments complements the vision. 2.5

Springsteen wannabes.
This was pretty good. I liked the sense of anxiety that runs through this album, almost like realisation that the world isn’t what they thought. The church organs mixed into the instrumentals at points were my favourite as they gave the tracks a certain gravity that they needed. My Body Is A Cage is an absolute standout with its big grand emotional finish. I would be lying if I said the theme or the lyrics engaged me the full time, but I had a nice time.
geen zin in bijbel eig
I loved Funeral and was disappointed after the release of Neon Bible. Haven't listened to this in years and the sexual misconduct allegations make it even worse than I remembered.
now is not the best age for me to listen to them
Some nice sounds, but gets repetitive and boring quickly.
Pretty good
Não me puxou muito, apesar de ter 2 ou 3 músicas bastante boas.
No cars go is what you're here for. The rest is iterations of the same concept. It's the only one where that extended swelling outro actually hits you with everything.
Enjoyed this much more than the other effort of theirs I had way back at the start (The Suburbs). This was a bit more upbeat and didn’t make me want to skip to the end to escape a pit of depression.
I didn't like Funeral and I really didn't like The Suburbs, but this one is actually not bad. Go figure. I think they buried the vocal a bit, which works just fine for me.
I'm not a fan of the indie genre in any way, so this is just a thanks for participating 3
a little too indie for my taste... jay might like it more... i do like some songs but like, it doesnt connect with me much, i think.
Ottoemmezzo
It’s hard to imagine a band more intensely millennial than Arcade Fire. They may not have been a “stomp-clap-hey” band themselves, but they are the intellectual godfathers of that sound. In stark contrast to the dark, grungy, cynical rock bands of the 90s, they made it cool to be big, bright, theatrical, and hopelessly sincere. You listen to these people and you just know they love to talk about their heckin’ doggos and how they just can’t even. But of course, most of this highly-online mumbo jumbo is irrelevant, and it was completely irrelevant in 2007. Back then these guys were legitimately new and fresh, an innovative band with sharp songwriting and a big indie rock sound that didn’t rely on the guitar. Do I go for it? Not really, but I can see why a lot of people did. Arcade Fire exemplifies an era of youthful optimism and artistry that now feels incredibly naive. But at their best, they make you believe in it.
I know I'm supposed to like Arcade Fire, because that would mean that I am cool. I do not think I am cool. My Body is a Cage is particularly grating. I did like Keep the Car Running.... Average thoughts for an average album.
Like a very modern hipster Springsteen. Emphasis on the modern. I thought I hated it...then I thought I really liked it...then it dragged on for too long and I didnt like it again.
I’m wishing for a half star voting system. While I don’t think this album deserves a full three I do not think it deserves a full two either. It was actually an interesting if overproduced album that along with Modest Mouse’s similar timeframe album did bring a lot of focus to the genre utilizing social media and clever internet marketing.
Interesting and partly quite good. But as a whole one of the so many average albums here on the list.
This is the second Arcade Fire album I have ever listened to and it was miles better than the other one. They know how to make a good tune but the more downbeat ones are a little too theatrical for me
I was surprised to see this album on this list. "The Well and the Lighthouse" has been on my playlist for many years, so I was excited to see what the rest of the album held in store for me. The answer was, sadly, not much.
I remember listening to this album before, and having been a huge fan of 'Funeral' it doesn't quite hit the same highs. Nevertheless, it is a solid offering, although the mix felt a bit flat in places.
I'm very surprised this is here. Funeral was a genuine eye-opener, a technicolour expanse at a time of minimal simplistic guitar bands. But this? This is...fine, I guess? The only part that actually felt memorable just reminded me of Sufjan Stevens. Very much not a 'bad' record, but not even my favourite Arcade Fire LP, so very surprised to see it here. A low 3 / high 2. Gets a 3 because it wasnt offensive, but just.
Not revelatory but decent.
It’s amazing how a couple of decades can make a protest record against the “establishment” seem like a bunch of callow and insincere millionaires whinging. Maybe it’s the promise this music held to a young man that someone was out there fighting the man and saying the inflammatory things that drove our fantasies of a better tomorrow. A promise that feel more fraudulent as you age because you discover that everything is “the man” and you are a part of the establishment by proxy no matter what you think or hate. There are hits here, Keep The Car Running, Ocean of Noise, that stand the test of time, but others fall short. Having been rent from the naive energy that drives them they seem overwrought and ultimately silly at times. Also one has to consider the band’s own opus when gauging this album and though better than some of the later outings, this is no Funeral and we’re the poorer for it.
On first listen, I noticed an inherent darkness in the lyricism, which explores some interesting territory and remains abstract without becoming preachy, while juggling themes such as existential dread, paranoia and guilt. It is scarily relevant years after its release, now even more so than ever before. Unfortunately, I didn’t find the delivery particularly convincing across much of the album, and I often felt sonically lost between its different concepts. I struggled to tell many of the songs apart. The two standouts for me were “Ocean of Noise” and “My Body Is a Cage.”
Pretty good, added 2 or 3 songs, the rest decent as background
Perfectly fine and average
My Body is a Cage is awesome. Known it since release from my parents and it's a banger all the way. The power and tone the organ brings speaks directly to your soul. Turn on the speakers and crank it the hell UP Antichrist Television Blues goes hard. Lyrics are great. Not too big a fan of Black Mirror. A bit too monotonic for my taste but the lyrics are great. I've heard Keep the Car Running before, but I couldn't tell you where. I like the acoustic guitar and the bass layering here. Neon Bible is weird. It feels like metal Jack White recorded a Kenny Rogers song. Doesn't fit well with me. Intervention and Black Wave are similarly odd. I feel mixed about Ocean of Noise. I like the detached tone but it still has a similar monotonic feeling to Black Mirror. I can see why people would like it though. The Well and the Lighthouse along with Windowsill are in the same box. I know No Cars Go already. I like it. Ultimately, I just prefer the more active side of Arcade Fire that they show in tracks like this and My Body is a Cage. Overall, good album but I'm giving it a 3/5. There's so much potential I feel that they missed out on going in the direction of My Body is a Cage. For a moment though, we witnessed utter cinema.
Kind of meh. Some fun bops but overall don't see myself revisiting.
Wish I could rate higher for all of the popular songs that are bangers, but everything else is just so meh that I cannot reasonably give it a 4
3/5
começo bom, final morno
not their best - some good songs, others much less good
Better than coldplay
I’ve never really listened to Arcade Fire before, and I’m not entirely positive this record is going to be a catalyst for me to start. Musically it’s.. good? I have no strongly negative observations to report, but I just found it sort of.. unengaging? Is that even a word? Sonically it feels really vast, almost too big for its own good if that makes sense. Vocally and lyrically I think it’s like if Bruce Springsteen had started an indie rock band. I don’t hate it, but I definitely don’t love it. This would get a 2 but they get a bonus point for being Canadian.
Nearly 20 years later this album and Arcade Fire in generic feels like the most quintessential and kind of boring late 2000s-early 2010s indie music imaginable. I'm not sure if that's because their music was always that way or they're something of a victim of their own success and their sound was so successful and oft-replicated that it now sounds this way. Either way I've never been a huge fan. The singles from this album, "Keep the Car Running", "No Cars Go", and "My Body is a Cage" are pretty good. I also liked "Ocean of Noise". I see the appeal this has for people but it doesn't evoke strong feelings either way for me.
3.0 - Ok
slightly better than mid
Enjoyable alternative from the 2000s. Reminds me a lot of one of my favorite bands, The War on Drugs.
I think the concept is pretty interesting but the music didn't interest me enough to think about relistening
Ok
This album probably deserves a higher score but I enjoyed it three stars worth. I think I found this album to be at it's best when it felt like the second coming of Bruce Springsteen. That that for all it's worth.
I always felt on casual listening that arcade fire was simply a Springsteen adjacent work with less effort. That's in there but also a pretty great set of lyrics. I can't say I enthusiastically listened but it got my attention despite my initial bias.
Hmm, a weird one to review. This isn’t anywhere near as good as I remember it being. It starts to come together in the second half but the whole thing seems a bit full of itself. Adding in the weird vibe from the accusations surrounding Win Butler and I can’t imagine I’ll come back to this again. Luckily I’ve discovered violator by Depeche Mode which is just better than this album anyway. So I don’t need to feel conflicted.
Listened Before? N I didn't hate this as much as some of the other reviewers... but I found it pretty unremarkable. It just sort of doesn't have much that stands out. I listen to it and I go "yep, that's 2000s indie rock'. Someone said it was like U2 without the meaningful lyrics, and I think I agree. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: No Cars Go
Didn't know this one as well as Funeral or The Suburbs, but much like with Funeral, I mostly prefer the singles to the deep tracks. The Suburbs is an absolute masterpiece and for my money their crowning achievement.
The third best Arcade Fire Album.
This felt like one of those “you won’t get it unless you listen to the lyrics” or like a “you just don’t get it like I do” that bitches be listening to in 2015. Pierce the veil type shit mixed with a little bit of Radiohead and the smiths?
Dacht dat dit harder was. Oke The Well and The Lighthouse ga ik goed op. Al met al prima plaat, maar minder dan verwacht
Not bad, not great either. The hit off this is "Keep The Car Running" and it's definitely the best song on the album. The rest sounds kind of like that song but not as good.
This album is more condensed and concise than The Suburbs but the songs aren’t as strong. This was a good listen though. But less memorable. I feel AF learned from this album and made a lot of hits but didn’t know when to stop with a the Suburbs. But this review is about Neon Bible. But that’s all I have to say. I’m interest in this band. But I haven’t really heard anything at all, any news, and note worthy releases since The Suburbs. I hope there are some surprises coming my way. 3 Neons out of 5 Bibles
Good but not my fave by them, first time I heard it all the way through in ages. Bit too grandiose for its own good, funeral is better
feel like this probably inspired Sam Fender (keep the car running could totally be a Fender song if it was sung with a Geordie accent) and Wet Leg (less the singing/lyrics, but i felt like the guitar on a couple of the tracks (The Well and the Lighthouse) reminded me of moisturizer). all well made but i kinda feel like this is nothing really that special, none of the songs are drawing me in a lot and making me want to come back to this album, but i wouldnt complain if someone put it on. 3
Yeah. I knew about Arcade Fire but never listened to Arcade Fire. Not too much missed, and I think it was included because it was a good album when it released, but it never really reached any kind of legacy/staying power outside of fans of the band.
I’ve never really listened to anything by Arcade Fire. It was good, but it’s not really for me.
un peu ennuyeux </3 y’a pas grand chose qui se passe ♡: Keep the Car Running (celle-là je l’aime vraiment par contre)
7.5/10
this was a fun album, and arcade fire’s first album was pretty awesome, but i’m not sure this was better, just more polished
Utterly forgettable. I know I was listening to the album as I ran errands today. I swear I wasn't ignoring it. Nothing really stands out. How do I rate an album that when I literally just listened to it, I can't remember much about it? Wait... They waited until the end of the album to have back to back bangers?
Pretty boring. Some good moments that built to something but a lot of the times the climaxes did not do it for me.
Loses some sparkle as it ages
again, pretty unremarkable, but this had a slight tint of artistic merit that makes it sound more bearable.
Always pretended to hate arcade fire. Not a bad album. Some good vibes, but actually not a huge fan. Just sounded a bit bland at points. Some good messages though!
A strange but enjoyable listen for me. I don’t typically like this type of music, but I found myself intrigued by a lot of the songs, with the highlight for me being Intervention
Eh
Musically interesting, but more one note than I'd like. Both too preachery and shallow, as well as with some interesting music to go with.
Amazing how much I used to love this album. I think if you replaced Win Butler in this you would be on for a 5. And that now holds true for most, but definitely not all, Arcade Fire albums.
jo
Was not over impressed with this album , very formulaic rock music with noth8ng else to offer apart from th slightly annoying vocals
This was a decent album, but fell off pretty hard after some early bangers and overall didn't end up feeling all that memorable for me.
It was kinda dull but I quite liked it.
Good for the genre, definitley not my go-to though. The song neon bible and my body is a cage are best-- would be open to listening to more albums by them
It was enjoyable, bur nothing too special
I liked a lot of the base elements, but combining them just didn't work for me. Not a fan of the folk-kinda psychadelic combination. Was a bit too edgy for me.
Bored me when i was young and i Feel similar now. Well produced. Motivated to relisten on my nice earbuds. Great background music to do chores to. His voice and often the lyrics and the music too, are too melancholy to me. Although there’s a variety of sounds and speeds throughout most tracks develop in an expected way and thrive off repeated rhythms. I like the time capsule that is the lyrics. But i don’t connect with many.
Really fun and different indie rock album, lot of cool instrumentals and vibe.
I don't think I've ever listened to this album. I didn't love Funeral like everyone else did, so I didn't feel the need to check any more of their stuff out. I'm curious to see if I recognize any of these songs though, because these guys were everywhere for a while. Sounds pretty similar to Funeral. I kind of liked "Intervention." I'd give this 2.5, rounding up because I'm feeling generous. I just don't love these guys like a lot of my friends do. Not sure why.
Irgendwie hatte ich Arcade Fire anders in Erinnerung
Great moments, wonder what happened to the band post Reflektor to make such a deep dive into mediocrity
I didn’t dislike it but was a bit inoffensive; milquetoast generic.
Solid, creative outing if at times it fails to reach the heights that the production imagines for it
I already had these guys and wasn't impressed that much. But this ones is better so far after 1 listen. Might go for 3 stars. Honestly this might be first modern indie album I might even want to REVISIT!? "Intervention" stuck out to me and maybe couple of other tracks
Sounds like they just stole Bruce Springsteins music
5/10. This was fine. Clear Springsteen influences. It was fine.
This was this was interesting. It was OK. Some people say it’s boring which I’m not sure I fully agree with, but I do experience some sort of secondhand embarrassment listening to this type of music, but I feel that there’s a lot of good ideas and good moments on this album, even though it did feel start very similar throughout the runtime there’s definitely songs that were standouts and that made me cringe bit and not sure if I would come back to it. I’d probably listen to other Arcade Fire albums before listening to this again, but I didn’t hate it.
7/10 ima dobrih pesama, al ne rade me Neon Bible je top
Muzikální-ahh, jako nekomu se to adi libi 🙄
A couple songs make this more of a 4 - call it a 3.5. But I still just can’t quite get into arcade fire - there’s something about them I find pretentious/boring. Maybe I just require another listen. Til then!
It was lowkey a little generic, i didnt think it was that cool. It felt like a lot of music ive heard before. Kind of like coldplay. They were talented but i didnt think it was anything special. 3.1/5
Best Track - "My Body Is A Cage"
My third Arcade Fire album from the generator. I think this is the album of theirs that I was most familiar with going into this project. As with the Suburbs and Funeral, this is perfectly enjoyable indie rock that I’m just not too fussed about. It’s weird because I really feel like I’m supposed to like Arcade Fire because I’m generally a fan of indie rock and I don’t dislike it, but I don’t exactly like it either.
Yeah. It was ok. 🤷♀️
I love these hipster bastards, but I like their other albums better. 3.5
6 Feel nothing listening to this
It’s really such a mixed bag
I preferred the more upbeat songs. The main male vocalist was kinda whiney sometimes.
I liked it better than I thought I would at first listen. I've listened to it a second time. Still have to decide what my favourite song is tho. nice album for a road trip? (not cause of all the car songs) if I had to shout out my favourite songs, those would be: - Intervention - My Body is a Cage
I honestly remembered liking Arcade Fire better in the other album we listened to. It was fine, but not my favorite.
This album is a bit of a Quality Street situation for me. It’s all relatively decent and oh aren’t we glad to be tucking into yet another nice chocolate, but nothing in the box is going to rock my world. But there’s a good amount of variety in there and I wouldn’t be against coming back for more another time.
Kinda generic to me? Feels like they haven't found a distinct voice yet. I think later stuff I enjoy more.
Mid.
Really bummed. I like most of their stuff but this doesn't totally work for me. Best Song: No Car Go Rating: 5.5/10 Stars: 3
not for me
3.5
Enjoyable enough on a nothing really stood out kind of way
Not bad for a mainstream indie album. I can only take so much of this type of music at a time though
Solid album album, so really good songs and a quite a bit of filler.
good album couple of slow songs but the ones that I liked, I LOVED
Ah yeah noughties folk indie pop revival. I like it at its more upbeat - no cars go and keep the car running.
What if Bruce Springsteen lived long enough to use an iPhone?
I'm not connecting to this. But it seems intentionally remote.
nice
I'm so sorry I'm a bit out of focus to give this one a real review. But I'll try my best. I kinda like the production here, it's nice and not to dense like their debut. I like. Their first and famous album is one I liked at first listen but didn't come back to much. It didn't stick with me. At least not till today. Though the bangers there are undisputed. I feel like this one is a bit more balanced. What can I say, the energy of this band is very specific, I like it here. And I feel like the songs are good as well. Again, I'm not in my best form today. But this is how it works. It's quite nice. Windowsill for example, great explosive song. Guitars all through and chorus at the end are great. As it goes I like it even more. No Cars Go have such amazing textures. The lost song is good and powerful too, but I feel like the mix is buring the instruments a bit here. It's a bit of a shame. I think I liked it quit a bit .especially songs 9 and 10 which are very very special. Unfortunately I'm not focused enough but it's still a decent and deserving 3.
Good album love the layering of instruments on arcade fire albums.
It’s was good album. Not the best, but good.
This was OK. I have never been into any Indie bands, and Arcade Fire is no exception. I liked a few songs, which is many more than I can say for that Fleet Foxes album a couple months ago. 3/5
inoffensive, but also unimpressive
Basically an editors album
Like Intervention, the rest is so so.
Plainly pompous
Solid but kinda by-the-numbers sounding for this style and era. Favs: Black Mirror Ocean of Noise The Well and the Lighthouse Least Favs: Keep the Car Running- I’m so sick of this chord progression, feels like every single one of these bands does it.
Hadn't heard of them before, after hearing this I'm not so surprised. It was ok, but nothing to write home about.
I don’t have an opinion either way.
Intriguing. If these guys had come along at the right time for, I think I might have connected with them.
Drugie Arcade Fire w krótkim czasie. Albo mam zmęczenie materiału albo jest to słabsza płyta. Bardziej wtórna. Ostatnia piosenka to jest sztos, ale cała reszta przeciekła mi przez palce. 6/10.
Neon Bible feels like Arcade Fire staring at the world’s chaos and trying to find some light in it. It’s big and stormy, full of church organs, choirs, and that classic sense of drama they love, but it still hits some really human nerves. Songs like “Intervention” and “The Well and the Lighthouse” sound massive, yet weirdly intimate - like shouting into the dark. It’s not as raw as Funeral, but it’s deep, moody, and kinda beautiful in its gloom.
Very arcade fire
I am very on the fence about Arcade Fire. Some of their stuff I really like, and I've listened to some songs where I just don't get it. I think this is my first full album listen through of theirs. To me, a lot of this sounds very over-produced. It lands some of the time. Others it just seems all a bit much. I wish the vocals came through a little clearer. I haven't really moved from my spot on top of the fence. There are some cool sounds here, but also some really kind of dull tracks that just don't do much for me. Standouts were "Black Mirror" and "(Antichrist Television Blues)" I think I'll stay a casual observer and pick and chose the tracks I like. Overall the album was pretty decent. Nothing super captivating for me. 3 stars.
meh
Nice alternative, indie pop album. Sound a little bit like Talking Heads.
There were times I kinda liked it, but for the most part I'm not really a fan.
It may or may not be the best time to listen to Arcade Fire seeing how much this band has gone through in the last 5 years, but since I got recommended Neon Bible, I thought I'd give it a shot and see what the hype is all about. I wasn't very huge on Funeral, and every time I hear that project it grows off me more and more at a rapid rate, so going into Neon Bible I was a bit hesitant. Thankfully I can say that Neon Bible is a far better project in my eyes, but I still don't see the full hype behind this band just yet. The overarching sound of this project as well as the songwriting and production feels so much more consistent and handled much better than with Funeral's very messing and all over the place sound. While it may not have the same level of highs, it does have a consistency that is felt across every track here that keeps it all tight. I really enjoyed the three track run of Ocean of Noise to (Antichrist Television Blues) as that stretch showed how much more work Arcade Fire had put in as a band and boomed with confidence. I can totally see this project continuing to grow for myself as I really enjoyed the thoughtful compositions of this project. While sometimes it can be a bit much more than one can chew, I respect the hell out of Neon Bible for continuing to show growth and maturity from the band as they continue to expand on their explosive mix of Indie Rock and Chamber Pop. Nuff said!
- arcade fire tuttu entuudestaan, tältä levyltä pari biisiä - arcade fire ollut itelle aina bändi jolla yksittäisiä ihan sikke kovia biisejä, mutta levykokonaisuuden verran ei sytytä ihan täysin - sama tämän albumin kohdalla, vaikkei huono ole tosiaan - no cars go yksi kaikkien aikojen kovimmistä biiseistä silti imo
Neon Bible I never really caught the Arcade Fire hype train back when this came out, and have never really given them a proper listen. Although I’m not totally enthused by it, I think I’ve missed out a little, as I definitely liked it. It is definitely of an ilk with that late 00s US indie sound I’m not keen on, but it certainly has more melodic and instrumental flair than a lot of that music, although there is still a distinct tang of the self importance and self seriousness that informs a lot of that music. I like Black Mirror as a melodramatic opener, the piano riff strings are great. A few songs reminded me of Echo and the Bunnymen, Keep the Car Running and The Well and the Lighthouse in particular. There’s definite echoes of Bowie here and there too. And I very much liked the Springsteen feel to Intervention and (Antichrist Television Blues), and I enjoyed Ocean of Noise and No Cars Go with its little video game synth. Ultimately I think this is a solid 3, there’s a fair bit that drags and feels a bit pedestrian, but there’s also just about enough intriguing stuff happening to make me want to come back further down the line and re-evaluate. 📕📕📕 Playlist submission: (Antichrist Television Blues)
Ok 2.5
Interesting.
ça ne m'a pas marqué pour être honnête
Pas très intéressant, rien de remarquable qui les différencient d'un autre groupe. Laura n'a pas aimé
Most of these albums, I didn't listen to close to the time that they came out. This one however, I did! And I didn't like it then! And I don't like it now! It's just not for me. It's slow moody music and the singing is not my cup of tea. However the organ? Exquisite. I love the music, just not the singing. That brings it up to a 3 for me but literally no more because the voice actually grates on my ears.
Arcade Fire has better albums than this one. Maybe this list would make more sense if they put actual "top of the top" records on it instead of filling it with decent but mediocre stuff. 3 stars
Not as good as other Arcade Fire albums.
later
Eh. If this was from like the 80’s or something I might give this a bit of a pass for being boring and bringing nothing new or interesting to the table, but these guys have 3 entire albums on here and this album specifically released in 2007, so it gets no passes for being unoriginal from me. This is the first of them I have heard and the most popular on the site as well. It’s just kind of boring and generic indie electronica rock. It’s melodic and orchestral, but never really that good or exciting for the entire length of the album, until you get to the last song on the album, which I LOVED, “My Body Is a Cage”. Around 2 minutes into that song, there’s an absolutely killer tone shift that is unlike anything on the rest of the album. I really wish anything was even remotely comparable to how much I enjoyed that riff. This is a band I feel like I heard mentioned a ton around the 2010’s, never heard any of their music, knew nothing about, and then they were quickly excised from public conscience a few years later. Don’t know why we need 3 of these here, but who knows, maybe the other 2 show me something new. Somehow, I doubt it. This was a bit pretentious, I wouldn’t really return to it, and didn’t really connect with all that much of it, but I still never actively disliked any of it, so it’s still getting a 3 from me.
Not much to say about this one. It's not bad, doesn't really break out of the norm and started to get a little mundane at the end. "My Body Is A Cage" brought me back in a little.
I like this in theory, but it doesn’t work in execution.
As with Funeral, I like Neon Bible well enough, I just still don't know that I fully understand the magnitude of praise that Arcade Fire receives. Don't get me wrong, this is an album of well-produced, well-written, slick indie songs, and there is a consistent level of quality here, I just don't think Arcade Fire are really the most interesting or enjoyable indie band out there. It may just be a matter of preference, I usually prefer my more energetic indie to have some more teeth than Arcade Fire can usually show. That being said, there are moments here that achieve a more baroque, densely arranged sound that I think Arcade Fire wears well. And I do have some highlights: Intervention, Black Wave/Bad Vibrations, The Well and The Lighthouse, and No Cars Go. In particular, I think the build at the end of Black Wave/Bad Vibrations may be the finest moment on the entire album. On the other end, (Antichrist Television Blues) and Windowsill didn't do a ton for me. Overall, the consistency across this album is really what saves it. A lot of these songs have something going for them. And the front to back listen is pretty enjoyable too.
There are too many Arcade Fire albums on this list. Funeral I get. I’ll repeat basically what I said last time: Fine I guess. I listened to Funeral a fair amount back in the day, but for some reason Arcade Fire did not age well for me. Why do I like them less now? Overplayed? Leapfrogged by others? Realizing they were a surrogate for wanting more Neutral Milk Hotel? Allegations towards the main guy regarding sexual assault? All of the above?
Far from as good as Funeral and The Suburbs. 4 or 5 good songs but 4 or 5 songs I didn't care about.
Every time I thought it would lose me it pulled me back, only to lose me again shortly after. There aren't a lot of bad songs, it's just that they either have the same progression or no progression
They really put together some great sound. Not always what I’m looking for, but can’t deny it’s all well put together.
Different. Not bad not good.
Kind of banging millenial rock type ish.
This was a solid listen with some memorable moments, particularly the Springsteen-like urgency that creeps into a few tracks and the organ textures that add real depth. But overall, it leans a little too self-indulgent for my taste. While I can respect the ambition and understand why the album has its admirers, it doesn’t quite reach the level of connection that earns a replay spot for me. A good record, but ultimately more of an appreciation than a love.
It’s fine
Hmmmmmm 00s Indie seems to need a nostalgia factor for me to enjoy it and arcade fire passed me by so........ unless I recognise something from the inbetweeners this could go badly. Intervention is very big i like it. Not really enjoyed anything else so far its a bit mumbly honestly but I can see the appeal. Ooh a girl. I like this one too Feel like this is what the killers wanted to sound like on day and age. Objectively this is probably more interesting but that aforementioned nostalgia factor idk. Lmao of course theyre mormon. Ocean of Noise could be Massive but its kinda annoying me. Am I just a bit stressed and tired bc i feel like i should be enjoying this more. Think its maybe a Headphones Walk album it wants to feel like a soundtrack to something more interesting than sitting on the bed in my pants. Oh i saw bruce's name in the review keywords and wasnt hearing the comparison until antichrist television blues. Jeez born to run much. (I like it) Hmmm I dunno ive got bored. I like the big sound in theory, can see why you'd be a megafan but something just isn't doing it for me its very of its time in a way that might age better in another 10 years but for now its just kind of annoying and corny. If I had bought this cd in 2009 it would have been 5 stars probably.
This isn’t a bad album per se. It’s just not great. I feel like if I went back and listened to this a few more times, I might be able to get into it, I just don’t feel the need to go back and listen to it. They have some potential, it just feels like they haven’t reached it yet. Some good songs, some bad songs, kind of the very definition of an average album.
Pretty good
Elske alternativ rock! Vokalisten minne om grouplove, eller grouplove minne gjerna om arcade fire? Digge eksperimentaliteten. Blanding av litt sånn 80talls sound og tidlig 2000 alternativ rock + fionlin og orgel? kult e d jaffal. Savne litt bedre tekster. Beste sang: (Antichrist television blues)
Overblown but decent
It's perfectly listenable, but I don't know if I'd choose to listen to it again.
Well made, unique sounding all the way through. Respect the album, enjoyed some bits, but not my jam
Shame Win and his “problematic” behavior tainted this album. It’s good but…
This has a lot of unique sounds, but it didn't "hit" me. The vocals are banal and kind of boring.
Good band. Decent album but not their best work.
This was alright. When all the parts are so minimal the songwriting or vocals need to be better. The other album with Wake Up on it was better. Such an early 200’s indie rock sound. Fav song was Keep the Car Running.
Okay... kinda dramatic for my tastes.
I'm not a huge Arcade Fire fan
<3 and i don’t mean I love it. A couple of OK songs that I could happily live without
Ight
I can tell that this is good but it's also boring as fuck, I'm sorry, I just can't. The pipe organ is the most exciting instrument to me and they managed to make it dull. How?
Great indie rock. My body is a cage is an ear worm I can't get rid of
3.5
Piano rock? I can see the appeal but it gets a tad boring at times, definitely sounds very 2000’sy. I did quite like a few songs though
Got nothing really to say about this. It's fine. Funeral is better. Neon Bible doesn't really do much for me (but honestly that's Arcade Fire in general).
I had no idea this band was so into religion. It was alright. Don’t love or hate it. It just is.
Fine for what it is
Pretty solid album. I enjoyed listening, although nothing really stood out as excellent.
My first Arcade Fire album. It was good, expected a lot more but it doesn't seem to be one of their best according to others
I liked it But not as much as the suburbs
Arcade Fire is a bit of an acquired taste. They've got some good songs, but can also lose your interest.
Boring
Poppy new wave
I enjoy the sound of the album, but not a lot really stands out to me.
Fine. Arcade Fire not really for me I guess.
I tried but this is just not for me. The back half of the album is much better than the first and starting at No Cars Go, it’s quite good. That song and Suburban War really save it for me
Not as good as suburbs
he noch kid rock iscch das gad balsam. aber es isch scho seeehr "jo mit sind emfall indie" wiso goht mir das oft in falsche hals? so es isch sehr gross orchestriert, d songs sind eigentli easy. the well and the lighthouse super schön eigentli. okay bi no cars go isch etz definitiv de HEY indie achoo.
ahhh, arcade "I guess sie sind voll ok" fire au öppe so töneds ufem 2. album, schonooo cool aber jo neon bible isch na speziell, recht ruhig und easy churz ORGLE??? actually no es cools lied! black wave / bad vibration het na en coole switch gha aber de rest chli kacka ok insane abgschalte, kei ahnig passiert isch the well and the lighthouse isch cool! okay ja d orgle findi jz eig na spannend wie sie sie ihsetzet ja es isch halt würkli eifach ok
Meh. It's fine, these guys aren't my jam.
It’s alright but nothing special. Not exactly my style
Visai nieko, gal per daug country panašu
I don't know how to feel about this sound. I found the lyrics to be interesting though. Black Mirror is probably the stand-out song on the album for me.
I am supposed to like Arcade Fire but I don't like them very much.
The only song that I know by this band is what The Dan Patrick Show would end their show with on every Friday. I still couldn’t tell you the name of it. Decent album but wasn’t blown away.
Not bad! Some great tracks, some ok songs. Probably wouldn't sit through the whole album again
As a whole it feels very middling... the very essence of what indie rock was shaping into during the late aughts/early 2010s. But it certainly has its standout moments, where the sum of its parts all surge together to create a beautiful cacophony of sound.
Such a vibe. I loved this album and funeral so much back when they came out. I then spent years tired of the band and their signature sound. Maybe I got too hipster for the most hipstery band ever... Everything Now brought me right back and is still my favourite album.
Some great songs and some very passable songs
It’s just not ‘funeral’ is it? To be hyper-critical, some of the songs sound like filler and meander without going anywhere special. I do really like ‘no cars go’ though, and it’s pleasant enough for the majority.
I want to love Arcade Fire - all the elements are there, but it only gels for me in fits and spurts. I’m in “like” with them. I can be aware that this is a great album, but it fails to move beyond that sense of appreciation to something more. 3.5 stars rounded down for friend zoning me
What in the hipster coffee shop was this? Wasn't exactly great but I will hardly miss it. 5/10
Idk if it started out as just the two of us. It seems like the day was longer and various people throughout my life was ther but Jason Morris and I were at a grateful dead concert. It was inside a mountain where the seating flowed through peaks and valleys. We were on top to the side of the stage would run across various members of the band. Before the show started we found a guy we knew. A face I remember from the distant past but name long forgotten. He had some guitars a Goat and a turtle. We started playing the song black Peter and the mics picked it up and though it was early and mostly just technicians and a few band members were milling around setting up the band started playing until we messed up. Elaine came by to take the turtle to a shelter and security moved us along but gave us passes to sit anywhere. We crawled over seats that seemed to be growing while Jerry complained about us being where we were until we found what we thought were the best seats. In front of us sat two people that looked part Cuban part Italian and talked with Brooklyn accents. He was loud but she was loud and obnoxious and seemed like a bully that was slightly drunk bragging about how good there weed was. She shoved basically a roach in my face and said I bet you've never tried Water-75. I politely refused and she made some mean comment. It was dark by then and the band was playing a song i forgot. but then it was more dusk when again someone I may have known years ago found us. She was pixieish with a slight weight and skin problem. Blonde hair and in a silk dress. She apologized for not finding us earlier and took us to the front of the stage where the band members were all lined up to give us fives. I missed Jerry's hand.
Je trouve cet album un peu décevant par rapport à Funeral. Je donnerais 3,5.
A great follow-up to funeral. Lost me a bit in the middle but ended very strong
it alright for what it trying to be. very white people/james gunn core. highlights: “black mirror,” “neon bible”
Klingt sehr gut, aber manchmal ein bisschen übertrieben dramatisch. 3,7 Sterne.
3 1/2 stars: Makes me feel like I'm back in Colorado in the early 2000s at the dawn of the hipster revolution sipping craft beer at Red Rocks. Not every song works but they'll all sound EPIC. It's their signature I guess.
No está mal, no está increíble. Nunca había escuchado a Arcade Fire y probablemente siga siendo así.
Soft rock. Tiene temas interesantes, por lo demás un disco normalito. 5/10
Tried a few times and a few albums. Some good tunes but not an entire album worth on Neon Bible. Get lost at times and it just doesn’t grab me. For all their athletes I just can’t seem to get it.
I enjoyed listening to them. ★★★
Meget godt
Compelling sound, at risk of becoming repetitive. Some memorable lyrics. Well synced range of instruments. No Cars Go favourite track. 3.
Good quality but boring
This is a solid Arcade Fire album, and it stands up as one of the better releases of that year. However: Funeral and Suburbs are so much better than Neon Bible.
french hon hon
Nice, I liked the vocals, might be worth a future revisit
Good, not totally my vibe though
There was a hot moment for a few weeks when I thought Reflektor was amazing. I got over it. I don’t get why this band has so many albums on this list. This album isn’t terrible, but I’m kind of sick of this overblown hipster sound. It feels so slick as to have no feeling, despite being quite whiny. How many more of their albums are on this list? Really like a 2.5, but I guess I’d only be mildly annoyed if someone put this in on a car ride or something.
Много слышал хорошего, пробовал слушать, но не нравится звук, не могу уловить в чем его фишка. Но буду пробовать слушать ещё, наверное.
Like this album, but not their best
I have heard them, but never paid attention. The lyrics are intriguing, but the vocals are sort of buried in the mix. I find the music constant, lacking in dynamics, wall of sound closing in. Most of my favorite songs/ bands grow on me. I will continue to listen.
Nice
Better than i was expecting - not sure if it’s good enough to be on this list, but it was a pleasant listen
a bit bowiesk i would say. it was quite ok.
Not my Perfect Type
Good stuff, big cinematic feeling and use of larger ensemble. Dislike the singer's voice a lot.
3/5
no esta mal pero seguramente si la hubiera escuchado en 2022 me hubiera obsesionado
a classic! I used to love this growing up.
I got tired of his whiny voice immediately
Not bad, not remarkable. No complaints.
It was all-right.
Pleasant enough.
A few classics on here — keep the car running, no cars go, my body is a cage. but the middle kind of drags. Their next album The Suburbs is better, made me just want to listen to that one
3.5
As always for some reason i never can fully get into this band. I don't think they're bad they are quite good, but I don't think they sound any much different than most of the other Millennial Indie bands. They do kind of sound like a band I should get into more than I do I just don't. I did raise this one up just a tad from when I first heard it first a few years ago, but i think this listen I can boost it to a low 3½
Meh. S'okay. Lyrics have perhaps decayed with age, but it is still a good listen.
Un autre album de Noël juste à temps pour celui des campeurs. Des bons bouttes. Des bouttes pénibles. 3.25 étoiles
Like that they sort of shift genres between songs. Not really my jam though.
It’s great, but always feels off to me. The first album is perfect and this one tries its very best but it never hit the same way with me.
Beautiful build-up of bombastic songs
pretty middle of the road art rock album - has it's place esp for being a post 2004 album so yea
Arcade Fire doesn't really appeal to me in any way but I thought this was a good album.
i can't help but compare this to Funeral, and it doesn't come close. I had to look up Win Butler after so many reviewers here mentioned (typically) that they like the music but don't like him. I'm not sure he's guilty of anything, and if he is I don't care. This album would get 3 stars regardless.
No Cars Go was pretty solid
not bad, kind of a weird mix of arctic monkeys and mumford and sons
nije loše
Pre-listening thoughts: oh brother not this stupid band again 🍅 listen I liked the suburbs but like I think this is maybe the most overrated band oat. There is no reason for them to have three albums on this list. Post/during listening thoughts: man some parts of this were really good and some were just… not. Every time this album slowed down it was actually unbearable. But some of the more upbeat and layered songs really grabbed my attention back. This to me is the worst parts of Funeral mixed with the best parts of The Suburbs. Listen at your own risk. 5.5/10 DID I NEED TO HEAR THIS BEFORE I DIE: no Fav tracks: The Well and the Lighthouse, No Cars Go Least fav tracks: Neon Bible, Ocean of Noise
I'm going to skip this one.
Okay, not their best in my opinion
Its alright
Alright
Like the band but really only cared for one song
The first song of this album is such a weird way to kick it off. The tone is completely different than the rest of the album
Really appreciated the grandiosity of the production--the epic organ on Intervention stands out. Seeing some apt Springsteen comparisons and I endorse all of them, good and bad. Not sure I'll ever listen to this again so by definition it can't earn more than a three, which I grant it.
hier zaten verbazend genoeg een paar goeie nummers tussen...
Demasiado intensos pero muy buenos.
